Abstract
The oral cavity may play a role as a reservoir and in the transmission and colonization of Helicobacter pylori. The route of transmission for H. pylori is not fully understood. The prevalence of this pathogen varies globally, affecting half of the world's population, predominantly in developing countries. Here, we review the prevalence of H. pylori in the oral cavity, the characteristics that facilitate its colonization and dynamics in the oral microbiome, the heterogeneity and diversity of virulence of among strains, and noninvasive techniques for H. pylori detection in oral samples. The prevalence of H. pylori in the oral cavity varies greatly, being influenced by the characteristics of the population, regions where samples are collected in the oral cavity, and variations in detection methods. Although there is no direct association between the presence of H. pylori in oral samples and stomach infection, positive cases for gastric H. pylori frequently exhibit a higher prevalence of the bacterium in the oral cavity, suggesting that the stomach may not be the sole reservoir of H. pylori. In the oral cavity, H. pylori can cause microbiome imbalance and remodeling of the oral ecosystem. Detection of H. pylori in the oral cavity by a noninvasive method may provide a more accessible diagnostic tool as well as help prevent transmission and gastric re-colonization. Further research into this bacterium in the oral cavity will offer insights into the treatment of H. pylori infection, potentially developing new clinical approaches.

Abstract
Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a congenital disorder of the enamel tissue, characterized by a quantitative deficiency. In childhood, infections such as EBV, HSV-1, HCMV, or H. pylori may occur and cause various diseases. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of HPV, EBV, HSV-1, HCMV, and H. pylori infections in two groups of children: children with molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) and a control group, using molecular methods. The study group included 47 children aged between 6-13 years who had been diagnosed with MIH. The control group consisted of 42 children. The study found that, in the MIH group, the prevalence of HPV-16 was 6.38%, HPV-18 was 4.26%, EBV was 31.91%, HSV-1 was 4.26%, HCMV was 4.26%, and H. pylori was 12.77%. There were no significant differences in the prevalence of any of tested pathogens between the study and the control group (p > 0.05). However, the study found a higher prevalence of EBV infection in children who had smallpox/pneumonia by the age of 3 years. Ten children were found to have at least two pathogens present. Moreover, both groups had a high prevalence and activity of EBV. These findings provide new insights into the carriage of pathogens among children with MIH, providing new information for parents, scientists, and healthcare professionals.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a highly contagious pathogenic bacterium that can cause gastrointestinal ulcers and may gradually lead to gastric cancer. H. pylori expresses the outer membrane HopQ protein at the earliest stages of infection. Therefore, HopQ is a highly reliable candidate as a biomarker for H. pylori detection in saliva samples. In this work, an H. pylori immunosensor is based on detecting HopQ as an H. pylori biomarker in saliva. The immunosensor was developed by surface modification of screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) with MWCNT-COOH decorated with gold nanoparticles (AuNP) followed by HopQ capture antibody grafting on SPCE/MWCNT/AuNP surface using EDC/S-NHS chemistry. The sensor performance was investigated utilizing various methods, such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). H. pylori detection performance in spiked saliva samples was evaluated by square wave voltammetry (SWV). The sensor is suitable for HopQ detection with excellent sensitivity and linearity in the 10 pg/mL-100 ng/mL range, with a 2.0 pg/mL limit of detection (LOD) and an 8.6 pg/mL limit of quantification (LOQ). The sensor was tested in saliva at 10 ng/mL, and recovery of 107.6% was obtained by SWV. From Hill's model, the dissociation constant Kd for HopQ/HopQ antibody interaction is estimated to be 4.60 × 10-10 mg/mL. The fabricated platform shows high selectivity, good stability, reproducibility, and cost-effectiveness for H. pylori early detection due to the proper choice of biomarker, the nanocomposite material utilization to boost the SPCE electrical performance, and the intrinsic selectivity of the antibody-antigen approach. Additionally, we provide insight into possible future aspects that researchers are recommended to focus on.

Abstract
The oral cavity is the second most colonized site of Helicobacter pylori after the stomach. This study aimed to compare the genetic relatedness between gastric and oral H. pylori in Japanese patients with early gastric cancer through multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analysis using eight housekeeping genes. Gastric biopsy specimens and oral samples were collected from 21 patients with a fecal antigen test positive for H. pylori. The number of H. pylori allelic profiles ranged from zero to eight since the yield of DNA was small even when the nested PCR was performed. MLST analysis revealed that only one patient had a matching oral and gastric H. pylori genotype, suggesting that different genotypes of H. pylori inhabit the oral cavity and gastric mucosa. The phylogenetic analysis showed that oral H. pylori in six patients was similar to gastric H. pylori, implying that the two strains are related but not of the same origin, and those strains may be infected on separate occasions. It is necessary to establish a culture method for oral H. pylori to elucidate whether the oral cavity acts as the source of gastric infection, as our analysis was based on a limited number of allele sequences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori is one of the most common bacterial infections and is widespread globally. It causes a variety of gastrointestinal disorders, though a great proportion of infections are asymptomatic. A total of 143 fresh stool samples were collected from apparently healthy farm and pet animals (43 cattle, 50 buffaloes, 50 sheep, 50 dogs, and 50 cats), in addition to 768 human stool samples. The samples were examined using stool antigen and rapid antibody tests, and further confirmation of glmM "human antigen-positive samples and animal milk samples" was conducted by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). RESULTS The prevalence rates of H. pylori infection in animals were 22.2% and 16% in antibody and stool antigen tests, respectively. The detection rates were 28%, 24%, 12%, 10%, and 4.7% in cats, dogs, buffaloes, sheep, and cattle, respectively. On the other hand, the prevalence rate of H. pylori infection in human stool samples was 74.8%, and a statistically significant association was observed between prevalence and several factors, such as sex, age, and locality. PCR was performed to detect the glmM gene of H. pylori, and this gene was found in 21 of 27 human antigen-positive samples and 5 of 13 animal milk samples. CONCLUSIONS H. pylori was detected in both human and animal samples. Furthermore, glmM was found in milk and human samples. Our findings suggest that pet and farm animals could transmit H. pylori infection to humans.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Findings on the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the oral cavity are conflicting. This bacterium can occur either transiently in the oral cavity or, in some situations, pose a threat to oral/gastric tissues. AIM We investigated the presence of H. pylori in deep carious lesions of children and assessed its association with dental status and caries severity. DESIGN This cross-sectional study involved 20 children aged 3-6 years attending the paediatric outpatient clinic. Demographic and oral hygiene-related data were obtained from parents/caregivers. Caries status and severity were assessed using the DMFT and ICDAS II indices respectively. Dentine samples were collected and stored in phosphate-buffered saline solution. These samples were assessed for H. pylori using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. DMFT and ICDAS II scores were compared between children with and without H. pylori. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION H. pylori was detected in 70% of children with severe carious lesions (95% confidence interval: 46%-88%). The mean DMFT score was significantly higher in the group with H. pylori than in the group without (p = .001). The prevalence of H. pylori was greater in those with ICDAS II code 6 than in those with ICDAS II code 5 caries. Cavitated carious lesions can serve as a reservoir for H. pylori. Its presence was associated with higher caries status and caries severity (ICDAS II code 6). The presence of H. pylori in such cavities may tip the balance of plaque ecosystem in favour of Streptococcus mutans, the main bacterial source in dental caries.

Abstract
Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a widespread condition that affects millions of people each year, with an incidence rate of 0.1%-1.5%, and has a significant impact on human health. A range of stimuli, such as Helicobacter pylori, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, hyperacidity, stress, alcohol, smoking, and idiopathic disease states, can produce a sore in the gastrointestinal mucosal layer. For individuals infected with H. pylori, 2%-3% remain asymptomatic throughout their life. Although PUD treatments are available, genetic variations occurring in individuals because of geographical dissimilarity and antibiotic resistance pose limitations. Specifically, inflammatory cytokine gene polymorphisms have received immense attention in recent years because they appear to affect the severity and duration of stomach inflammation, which is induced by H. pylori infection, contributing to the initiation of PUD. In such a context, in-depth knowledge of interleukins may aid in the discovery of new targets and provide precautionary approaches for the treatment of PUD. This review aims to give insights into the importance of several interleukins that cognate with PUD and contribute to ulcer progression or healing by activating or dampening the host immunity. Furthermore, the available targets with clinical evidence have been explored in this review.

Abstract
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune disease characterized by isolated cryptogenic thrombocytopenia due to a transient or persistent reduction in platelet count. Many patients with ITP have shown improved platelet count after Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. However, there have been no studies regarding H. pylori in the oral cavity of patients with ITP. Here, we describe a patient with ITP whose oral samples exhibited H. pylori. A 64-year-old woman with ITP came to our hospital with chief complaints that required oral surgery, including tooth extraction and cystectomy. Bacterial DNA from H. pylori was confirmed on the extracted tooth, but was not detected in the saliva taken at the time. Bacterial DNA from H. pylori was detected on the suture around the extraction socket, which was removed at 10 days post-operation. However, H. pylori DNA was not detected in other oral samples at 10 or 30 days post-operation. A urea breath test was carried out in the gastrointestinal clinic at 60 days post-operation, which revealed no presence of H. pylori in the gastrointestinal tract. These results suggest that teeth with severe bacterial infections may be a potential reservoir of H. pylori for patients with ITP.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori infection has been suggested to be associated with lung cancer risk. However, information is lacking on whether the association differs by H. pylori antigen. We conducted a nested case-control study within the Southern Community Cohort Study, including 295 incident lung cancer cases and 295 controls. Helicobacter pylori multiplex serology assay was performed to detect antibodies to 15 H. pylori proteins. Conditional logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and confidence intervals (95% CIs) after adjustment for covariates. Overall H. pylori+ was associated with a non-statistically significant increased risk of lung cancer (OR: 1.29; 95% CI: 0.85-1.95). Significant associations, however, were observed for H. pylori+ VacA+ (OR: 1.64; 95% CI: 1.02-2.62) and H. pylori+ Catalase+ (OR: 1.75; 95% CI: 1.11-2.77). The positive association of H. pylori+ Catalase+ with lung cancer risk was predominantly seen among African Americans (OR: 2.09; 95% CI: 1.11-3.95) but not European Americans (OR: 1.20; 95% CI: 0.56-2.54). Among participants who smoked ≥ 30 pack-years, overall H. pylori+ (OR: 1.85; 95% CI: 1.02-3.35), H. pylori+ CagA+ (OR: 2.77; 95% CI: 1.35-5.70), H. pylori+ VacA+ (OR: 2.53; 95% CI: 1.25-5.13) and H. pylori+ HP1564+ (OR: 2.01; 95% CI: 1.07-3.77) were associated with increased risk of lung cancer. Our study provides novel evidence that associations of H. pylori infection with lung cancer risk differ by H. pylori biomarker, may be more evident among African Americans and may be modified by smoking habits. Furthermore, studies are warranted to confirm our findings.

Abstract
Metronidazole has the potential to produce local stomach specific action in order to treat Helicobacter pylori induced peptic ulcer disease. The current project executes the development of osmotically controlled bioadhesive metronidazole loaded effervescent floating tablets with optimized floating and swelling behavior. Direct compression technique was used to prepare the tablets. The designed formulations exhibited physico-chemical properties within acceptable optimum limits as per pharmacopeial requirements. The results of tablet floating studies revealed that all formulations, except F1 and F5, had good buoyancy characteristics (TFT > 12 h except F2 and F8 with TFT of 6 h). Formulation F2 containing guar gum in higher concentration with carbopol and formulation F8 containing guar gum in 50% decreased concentration in combination with HPMC and carbopol had enhanced FLT appreciably, with least TFT as compared to formulations F3, F4, and F6 (ANOVA; p ≤ 0.05). Formulation batches of F3, F4, and F6 exhibited appreciable FLT as well as TFT and were optimized formulations. Out of the above mentioned optimized batches, F4 and F6 formulations showed low FLT (4 and 5 s respectively). The results of the swelling study indicated a proportionate increase in the swelling index with increase in time. A significantly higher swelling ratio was found with formulation F6 and F4 compared with that of F7 and F8 (ANOVA; p ≤ 0.05). Additionally, the impact of pH change, agitational intensity, as well as increasing concentration of NaCl was investigated on drug release. It was observed that agitational intensity had no effect on drug release rate while increasing concentration of NaCl produced an increased drug release from the dosage form as compared to the drug release exhibited by the formulations in the absence of NaCl. Overall, this project could have valuable contribution in the fabrication of metronidazole loaded effervescent floating tablets. Gastro-retentive systems are expected to enhance local stomach specific action of anti H. pylori agents based on their buoyancy and swelling behavior.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To establish a multiplex PCR-based method for detecting Helicobacter pylori (Hp) 16S rRNA gene and cagA gene in saliva samples for investigating the prevalence of Hp in the oral cavity of Hp-infected patients with digestive tract diseases. METHODS Bioinformatics technique was used to design specific primers for Hp 16S rRNA and cagA genes for Hp detection using multiplex PCR, with recombinant cloning plasmids serving as the standard positive control. Oral saliva samples were collected from 156 patients with digestive tract diseases, and Hp 16S rRNA and cagA genes were detected using the established multiplex PCR system. RESULTS The established multiplex PCR system showed a strong specificity and a high sensitivity for detecting Hp 16S rRNA gene and cagA gene, with the lowest detection limit of 103 copies/μL. The recombinant plasmids pGMT-16s and pGMT-cagA could be used as standard positive controls for the identification of Hp. Among the 156 saliva samples, 87.2% were positive for Hp 16S rRNA gene and 23.1% for Hp cagA gene. CONCLUSION Hp is highly prevalent in saliva specimens of Hp-infected patients with digestive tract diseases. The presence of Hp in the oral cavity may importantly contribute to Hp infection in the digestive tract and recurrence after treatment.

Genome of Helicobacter pylori and Serotype of HPV Detected in Oropharyngeal and Laryngeal Cancer and Chronic Inflammation Patients. Abstract
Objective: Oropharyngeal/laryngeal carcinoma are common cancers of the upper aerodigestive system. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is described as the most frequent in the cancer of unknown primary. The presence of Helicobacter pylori (HP) in the oral cavity is discussed in some papers. The aim of study: To analyze the incidence of HPV and HP in oropharyngeal/laryngeal cancer persons versus persons with chronic tonsillar inflammation and healthy persons. Methods: The samples were taken in three groups: (1) tissue of oropharynx/larynx cancer (103 specimens); (2) tissue of palatine tonsils (85 specimens); and (3) healthy control group (50 specimens). We analyzed the presence of HP (PCR) and HPV genomic DNA (Sacace HPV High-Risk Screen Real-TM Quant) in the samples. Results: HP was detected in 86 samples (83.5%) and high-risk HPV in 62 samples (60.2%). We found a very high incidence of HP. In the cancer group, HP was detected in 82.5% cases and HPV positivity in 57.8%. In total, 7.2% of the cancer patients were negative for HP and HPV together. In turn, 53.6% of the cancer patients were positive for HP and HPV together. Four cases (4.2%) were positive for HPV only. VacA positivity was detected in 82 (79.6%) of the cancer cases and VacA negativity in 21 (20.4%) if the cancer cases. The incidence of HP in chronic inflammation (n = 85) was 65 cases (76.5%) and the incidence of HPV was 38 cases (44.7%). VacA positivity was detected in 59 (69.4%) of the chronic inflammation cases and VacA negativity was found in 26 (30.6%) of the chronic inflammation cases. Regarding the control group, we found HP positivity in 5 cases (11.1%) and HPV positivity in 19 cases (42.2%). There was VacA positivity in 6 cases (50.0%) of the control group. Statistically significantly lower prevalence of HP (p < 0.001) and HPV (p = 0.006) was found in the control group. Conclusions: We suggest that the palatine tonsils are colonized by HP. In our study, HP was present in oropharyngeal cancer in more cases in comparison with HPV infection. The presence of VacA from HP can have an influence on the human epithelial and immune cells’ regulation ways. Our results do not support idea that the CagA-positive HP is a primary carcinogen in oropharyngeal area.

Abstract
BACKGROUND
Helicobacter pylori transmission routes are not entirely elucidated. Since yeasts are postulated to transmit this pathogen, this study aimed to detect and genotype intracellular H. pylori harbored within vaginal yeast cells. METHODS A questionnaire was used to determine risk factors of H. pylori infection. Samples were seeded on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and horse blood-supplemented Columbia agar. Isolated yeasts were identified using and observed by optical microscopy searching for intra-yeast H. pylori. Total yeast DNA, from one random sample, was extracted to search for H. pylori virulence genes by PCR and bacterial identification by sequencing. RESULTS 43% of samples contained yeasts, mainly Candida albicans (91%). Microscopy detected bacteria such as bodies and anti-H. pylori antibodies binding particles in 50% of the isolated yeasts. Total DNA extracted showed that 50% of the isolated yeasts were positive for H. pylori 16S rDNA and the sequence showed 99.8% similarity with H. pylori. In total, 32% of H. pylori DNA positive samples were cagA+ vacAs1a vacAm1 dupA-. No relationship was observed between possible H. pylori infection risk factors and vaginal yeasts harboring this bacterium. CONCLUSION
H. pylori having virulent genotypes were detected within vaginal yeasts constituting a risk for vertical transmission of this pathogen.

Abstract
Osteoporosis (OP) and osteoporotic fractures (OFs) are common multifactorial and heterogenic disorders of increasing incidence. Helicobacter pylori (H.p.) colonizes the stomach approximately in half of the world's population, causes gastroduodenal diseases and is prevalent in numerous extra-digestive diseases known to be associated with OP/OF. The studies regarding relationship between H.p. infection (HPI) and OP/OFs are inconsistent. The current review summarizes the relevant literature on the potential role of HPI in OP, falls and OFs and highlights the reasons for controversies in the publications. In the first section, after a brief overview of HPI biological features, we analyze the studies evaluating the association of HPI and bone status. The second part includes data on the prevalence of OP/OFs in HPI-induced gastroduodenal diseases (peptic ulcer, chronic/atrophic gastritis and cancer) and the effects of acid-suppressive drugs. In the next section, we discuss the possible contribution of HPI-associated extra-digestive diseases and medications to OP/OF, focusing on conditions affecting both bone homeostasis and predisposing to falls. In the last section, we describe clinical implications of accumulated data on HPI as a co-factor of OP/OF and present a feasible five-step algorithm for OP/OF risk assessment and management in regard to HPI, emphasizing the importance of an integrative (but differentiated) holistic approach. Increased awareness about the consequences of HPI linked to OP/OF can aid early detection and management. Further research on the HPI-OP/OF relationship is needed to close current knowledge gaps and improve clinical management of both OP/OF and HPI-related disorders.

Abstract
Objective:
The present study aimed at the evaluation of the association between H. pylori and periodontal diseases by systematic review and meta-analysis study.
Materials and Methods:
We searched databases, including PubMed, SID, Magiran, Google Scholar, and Iranmedex using the following keywords in English: H. pylori, tooth decay, oral infection, dental infection, gingival infection and periodontal diseases. Data was analyzed using a meta-analysis and random effect model. Heterogeneity of studies was assessed using the I2 index, and data was finally analyzed with STATA (Version 11.2).
Results:
Among 10 articles reviewed that included 56,334 samples, results showed that association between H. pylori and periodontal diseases was significant with OR (odds ratio) = 1.13 (95% CI: 1.04 to 1.24).
Conclusion:
The results reveal that H. pylori can be one of the main causes of periodontal diseases. Thus, a novel way should be employed for the complete management of H. pylori infections.

Abstract
Oral cavity has been taken as one of the major reservoirs for Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria responsible for gastric infection and cancers. Dentists are frequently exposed to saliva; thus, theoretically, they are at a higher risk for oral H. pylori infection. In the present study, to test this hypothesis and to find out the potential factors associated with the increased risk, a cross-sectional study was carried out on a large scale of dentists (N = 90) and nondentist controls (N = 110). By using nested polymerase chain reaction to amplify a specific DNA fragment of H. pylori, we found 7.27% of saliva samples from the nondentist group and 16.67% of saliva samples from the dentist group were oral H. pylori positive, and the difference between groups was statistically significant (χ2 = 4.292, p = 0.038). Importantly, however, after stratifying enrolled subjects with factors which might interfere with the comparison of H. pylori detection rate between groups, we still observed a higher H. pylori frequency in the dentists than that in the controls in subgroups, including those with good individual hygiene, healthy lifestyle, and physical condition, as well as those living with families to be gastric disease free and not sharing meals with H. pylori-positive persons, respectively. Moreover, the frequency of clinical practice per week of the investigated dentists was closely associated with an oral H. pylori infection risk. Our data indicates that dentists are at a higher risk for H. pylori infection, and intensive attention needs to be paid on this issue.

Abstract
Background/Aim: to examine the connection of H. Pylori in saliva and biopsy material with oral lesions. Material and Methods: Sixty patients with dyspeptic complaints were followed up at the Clinic for Gastroenterology at University Medical Clinical Centre in Skopje, divided into two groups: first group consisted of 30 patients without presence of H. pylori, and the second group with 30 subjects and presence of H. pylori. The presence or absence of H. pylori has been ascertained after endoscopic examination-gastroscopy, and implemented urease test (CLO-test). All patients were clinically followed in order to determinate mouth burning, recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS), acid taste and lingual papillary hyperplasia according to Cohen and Proctor. The presence of H. pylori in saliva has been ascertained before endoscopic examination, after chewing Orbit gum without sugar for 1 min using by Pronto dry test. Determination of H. pylori in biopsy material has been ascertained by rapid urease test (RUT). Results: At 30 patients with dyspeptic complaints and presence of Helicobacter pylori, 16 patients (53,33%) had lingual papillary hyperplasia, acid taste, burning mouth and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). At 4 patients (13,33%) was confirmed acid taste, and also at 4 patients (13,33%) burning mouth. At 2 patients (6,67%) was confirmed lingual papillary hyperplasia, burning mouth, and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). At the same time, at 2 patients (6,67%) was confirmed burning mouth, and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS), until at 1 patient (3,33%) lingual papillary hyperplasia, as at 1 patient (3,33%) lingual papillary hyperplasia and acid taste. At patients without presence of Helicobacter pylori but with dyspeptic complaints, was confirmed burning mouth in 14 patients (46,67%), lingual papillary hyperplasia, burning mouth, and acid taste in 7 patients (23,33%); in 3 patients (10,00) lingual papillary hyperplasia, burning mouth, and in 2 patients (6,67%) was confirmed recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). Acid taste was registered in 2 patients (6,67%), and also lingual papillary hyperplasia in 2 patients (6,67%). There was a significant differences in clinical aspect between the patients with and without presence of H. pylori, for p< 0,01(p= 0,002); Pearson Chi-square= 20,10 i and p<0,05(p= 0,01). Conclusions: H. pylori in saliva and biopsy material detected with CLO test are reason for oral lesions at patients with dyspeptic complaints who have the presence of H. pylori.

Abstract
Periodontal disease is a common oral disease that can cause irreversible damage of periodontal support tissue. Studies on the relationship between periodontal disease and malignancies have also increased. In this review, the relationship between periodontal disease and gastrointestinal malignancies (e.g., stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreatic cancer), lung cancer, and breast cancer are discussed. The related mechanisms are summarized in terms of four aspects, namely, immu-nity, inflammation, gene, and microbiota and its products, to provide novel methods for the prevention and early diagnosis of malignancies.

Abstract
The detection of urease activity in the oral cavity is considered to be an efficient way to prevent dental caries and also to screen for helicobacter pylori infection. Herein, a rapid surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) method is proposed to determine the activity of urease by using inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) stabilized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs@IP6) as an efficient SERS-active substrate. The determination was achieved by monitoring the SERS peak intensity of urea at 1003 cm-1. With urease increase, the response of urea at 1003 cm-1 decreases gradually, indicating the two has good correlation. A linear relationship between the absolute value of signal drop and urease concentration is observed in a range from 2.35 to 37.5 μg/mL. In addition, the rapid SERS method was used to evaluate the activity of urease in real sample of saliva without any pretreatment, exhibiting a promising potential for biomedical application.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the causative agent of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer diseases and is an important risk factor for the development functional dyspepsia, peptic ulceration, gastric adenocarcinoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. H. pylori has very high rates of infection in human populations, and it is estimated that over 50% of the world population is infected. Recently, certain extra-gastric manifestations, linked to H. pylori infection, have been widely investigated. Noteworthy, a growing body of evidences supports an association between H. pylori infection with lung cancer. The present review intend to highlight not only the most recent evidences supporting this association, but also some missed points, which must be considered to validate this emerging association.

Abstract
AIM The present study was conducted to detect and identify Helicobacter pylori within local cow breeds in the central region of Algeria. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two hundred (n=200) cows from three provinces of the central region of Algeria were studied, between January 2016 and September 2017. Each cow was subject to stool, milk, and blood sampling. Milk and fecal samples were used to detect and identify H. pylori using bacteriology culture method. Blood and milk samples were used to detect H. pylori immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Polymerase chain reaction was used to confirm the abundance of H. pylori in milk by detecting glmM gene. RESULTS Out of 200 sera and 200 milk samples, 12% (24) and 4% (8/200) were positive for the H. pylori IgG antibody. glmM gene was detected in the milk of 13% of cows and was confirmed in all cows presenting IgG in milk. CONCLUSION From the present study, we concluded that the glmM gene is an important marker for detecting H. pylori in milk. Moreover, Algerian local-breed cows are a source of H. pylori and could be responsible for serious zoonosis.

Abstract
Poor oral health may be involved in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer, however, some aspects have not been explored. Further, for previously studied aspects, for example, tooth-loss, the findings are inconsistent. We conducted a prospective cohort study of 19,831 participants from Uppsala, Sweden, cancer-free at baseline in 1973-1974 and followed until 2012 through linkage to national registers. We found that individuals with fewest teeth at baseline had an increased risk of gastric cancer relative to subjects with all examined teeth present (p = 1.75e-2). Presence of denture-associated lesions was also associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer (p = 1.00e-4). However, these excess risks significantly varied with attained age; estimated hazard ratio (HR) at attained age 50 for tooth loss was 4.24 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.83-9.80] and 5.91 (95% CI 2.76-12.63) for denture-associated lesions, decreasing at an estimated 4% and 6% per year respectively, resulting in HR of 1.54 (95% CI 0.90-2.64) for tooth loss and HR 1.29 (95% CI 0.90-1.85) for denture-associated lesions at attained age 75. No increased risk of gastric cancer was found for individuals with higher levels of dental plaque, or with Candida-related or tongue lesions. In conclusion, tooth-loss and denture-associated lesions are associated with increased risks of gastric cancer. Previous conflicting findings of tooth-loss and gastric cancer risk may partly be explained by the age-varying relative risk of gastric cancer.

Abstract
Previous studies have suggested that peptic ulcer disease (PUD) including stomach and duodenal ulcers might be associated with periodontitis (PD); however, no clear conclusions have been reached thus far. In this retrospective case-control study, we aimed to investigate the association between PUD and PD by using a large population-based dataset in Taiwan. A population-based retrospective case control study was conducted using the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2010 (LHID2010) derived from the National Health Insurance Research database (NHIRD) in Taiwan from 2000 to 2013. The case and control group were matched with gender, age, urbanization level, socioeconomic status, and Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) by using the propensity score method at a 1:1 ratio. A total of 177,240 cases and 177,240 control patients were included in this study, with an average age of 46.96 ± 11.76 years. The risk of PUD for patients diagnosed with PD was 1.15-fold when compared with those without PD (OR, 1.15; 95% CI, 1.12–1.18). This population-based case control study demonstrated a significantly positive association between PUD and PD in Taiwan.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori has changed radically gastroenterologic world, offering a new concept in patients' management. Over time, more medical data gave rise to diverse distant, extragastric manifestations and interactions of the "new" discovered bacterium. Special interest appeared within the field of neurodegenerative diseases and particularly Alzheimer's disease, as the latter and Helicobacter pylori infection are associated with a large public health burden and Alzheimer's disease ranks as the leading cause of disability. However, the relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and Alzheimer's disease remains uncertain. METHODS We performed a narrative review regarding a possible connection between Helicobacter pylori and Alzheimer's disease. All accessible relevant (pre)clinical studies written in English were included. Both affected pathologies were briefly analyzed, and relevant studies are discussed, trying to focus on the possible pathogenetic role of this bacterium in Alzheimer's disease. RESULTS Data stemming from both epidemiologic studies and animal experiments seem to be rather encouraging, tending to confirm the hypothesis that Helicobacter pylori infection might influence the course of Alzheimer's disease pleiotropically. Possible main mechanisms may include the bacterium's access to the brain via the oral-nasal-olfactory pathway or by circulating monocytes (infected with Helicobacter pylori due to defective autophagy) through disrupted blood-brain barrier, thereby possibly triggering neurodegeneration. CONCLUSIONS Current data suggest that Helicobacter pylori infection might influence the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease. However, further large-scale randomized controlled trials are mandatory to clarify a possible favorable effect of Helicobacter pylori eradication on Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology, before the recommendation of short-term and cost-effective therapeutic regimens against Helicobacter pylori-related Alzheimer's disease.

The variability in Helicobacter pylori vacA and cagA genes has been related to the progression of the gastrointestinal disease; also the presence of H. pylori in the oral cavity has been associated with periodontal disease in adults, but, in children without dyspeptic symptoms, little is known about this. We evaluated the prevalence of H. pylori and the presence of vacA/cagA genotypes in the oral cavity of Mexican children without dyspeptic symptoms. The gingival status was measured, and dental plaque samples (n = 100) were taken. 38% of children were positive for H. pylori 16S rRNA gene by qPCR. A significant association between H. pylori oral infection and gingival status was observed (P < 0.001). In 34.6% (9/26) of mild gingivitis cases, s1m2 genotype was found, while s1m1 was typed in 50% (3/6) of moderate gingivitis. The cagA prevalence among H. pylori-positive children was 80.8% (21/26), 83.3% (5/6), and 16.7% (1/6) of cases of mild gingivitis, moderate gingivitis, and nongingivitis, respectively (P < 0.001). The s1m1/cagA+ combinational genotype was the most detected in children with gingivitis. Our results suggest that the prevalence of H. pylori and detection of vacA/cagA genotypes-associated gastrointestinal disease in the oral cavity could be related to the progression of gingivitis in asymptomatic children.

Abstract
Tongue diagnosis is one of the most important diagnostic tools in traditional Chinese medicine and has been verified for thousands of years. However, its subjectivity and repeatability has been disputed continuously. The tongue coating as the primary coverage of tongue diagnosis provides more objectivity and reproducibility due to its relatively clear molecular basis; it also has a close relationship with many system diseases and may be used as a potentially valuable disease diagnostic tool. This article describes the material basis of the tongue coating, including its biology (epithelial cells, blood cells, vascular endothelial cells, and bacteria) and its metabolites; moreover, we summarize the diseases that are most correlated with the tongue coating. This will be valuable not only for fundamental research of tongue diagnosis but also for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of disease. We suppose that the tongue coating could serve as a valuable auxiliary diagnosis tool in many diseases, and more research should focus on how to colligate the various information about the tongue and provide useful information for disease diagnosis.

Abstract
The study of Helicobacter pylori genetic variability brought us interesting data on the history of mankind. Based on multilocus sequence typing and more recently on whole-genome sequencing, paleomicrobiology still attracts the attention of global researchers in relation to its ancestor roots and coexistence with humans. Three studies determining the prevalence of virulence factors illustrates the controversial results obtained since 30 years by studies trying to associate prevalence of different virulence markers and clinical outcomes of H. pylori infection. Three articles analyzed the prevalence and risk of multiple (genetically distinct isolates) and mixed (susceptible and resistant isolates) infections. A number of studies confirm that H. pylori prevalence is falling worldwide especially in the developed world and in children but that the level of infection is higher in certain ethnic minorities and in Migrants. There is little new in identifying the mode of H. pylori transmission though intrafamilial spread appears to be important. There have, however, been some interesting papers on the presence of the organism in food, water, and the oral cavity.

Abstract
The relationship between miR-21 and miR-182 gene expression in peripheral blood and gastric cancer tissue was investigated, exploring the relationship between the levels of miR-21 and miR-182 and prognosis of gastric cancer patients, and determining the effects of these two genes on the growth and migration of gastric cancer cells. Fifty gastric cancer patients who were treated in the 254th Hospital of PLA, from July 2012 to July 2014 were selected. Peripheral blood samples were drawn from patients, and 50 healthy subjects were studied as controls. The levels of the miR-21 and miR-182 genes were detected by semi-quantitative PCR, and the correlation between miR-21 and miR-182 expression and clinicopathological features was explored. Moreover, the effects of miR-21 and miR-182 expression on the survival time and prognosis of patients were investigated. siRNA was used to downregulate miR-21 and miR-182 gene expression in MGC-803 gastric cancer cells, and MTT and Transwell assays were conducted. As a result, the relative expression levels of miR-21 and miR-182 in peripheral blood of gastric cancer patients were significantly higher than in healthy subjects (p<0.01) and the relative expression of miR-182 was closely related to the clinicopathological features of gastric cancer patients (p<0.05); high expression of miR-21 and miR-182 was associated with reduced survival time of patients (p<0.05); MGC-803 cells with low expression of miR-21 and miR-182 were analyzed, showing that miR-182 promoted cell proliferation and migration (p<0.01). In conclusion, the relative levels of miR-21 and miR-182 in peripheral blood of patients with gastric cancer are significantly increased; low expression of miR-182 can significantly reduce the proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells. Moreover, miR-182 expression, which is closely related to the clinicopathological features of gastric cancer, can serve as a target for the clinical treatment of gastric cancer.
