Abstract
INTRODUCTION Participation in occupations is considered essential for individuals' health and wellbeing. Participation is a multidimensional construct that encompasses objective and subjective dimensions that transform over the course of life. Nonetheless, there is a lack of comprehensive measures that examine young adults' participation in age-appropriate activities. Therefore, we developed the Young Adults' Daily Participation Scale (YADAPS) and aimed to explore its psychometric properties. METHODS In Study 1, the content validity of the YADAPS was established based on nine experts. Its internal consistency, criterion, convergent, and construct validity were explored among 115 typical young adults (21-35 years). Using a different sample, Study 2 examined YADAPS discriminant validity among 33 young adults with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) and 52 typical peers. CONSUMER AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT No consumer and community involvement was included in these studies. RESULTS The relevance of YADAPS items was sufficient. Internal consistency was acceptable to excellent in most scales (.74 ≤ α ≤ .89). Criterion validity was supported by correlations between the subjective participation scales and a wellbeing measure. Convergent validity was found for all scales. No gender effect was observed (p ≥ .05). However, significant differences (p ≤ .05) were found between individuals with and without DCD. CONCLUSIONS The YADAPS appears to be a promising measure of objective and subjective dimensions of participation in young adults. The results support the importance of examining various participation dimensions, including occupational experience. Thus, it may be used for clinical purposes among young adults as well as for occupational science research, to broaden our understanding on the interplay between participation dimensions in various life situations in young adulthood. However, further research is needed on psychometric properties, the most suited scoring method, and to consolidate their robustness among diverse populations of young adults. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY Participation, or how one engages in daily life activities, greatly affects wellbeing. The activities in one's routine change over the lifespan, in accordance with one's developmental phase. Existing assessments of participation have limitations, like not considering young adults' concerns or only focussing on certain aspects of participation. By focussing on both the objective-observable and subjective-experiential aspects of participation, the Young Adults' Daily Participation Scale (YADAPS) strives to be a comprehensive assessment tool designed specifically for reflecting activities relevant in young adulthood. This manuscript provides preliminary validity and reliability for the YADAPS, a new questionnaire that assesses objective and subjective aspects of participation in activities relevant for individuals in young adulthood. Furthermore, the questionnaire is able to distinguish between young adults with and without participation difficulties; therefore, it is suitable for research and clinical use.

Abstract
The utilization of assisted reproductive technologies (ART), including in vitro fertilization (IVF), has doubled in the past decade. The occupational balance of women undergoing infertility and its treatments is unknown. A qualitative study to investigate the occupational balance of women undergoing IVF for infertility was completed. Ten women currently undergoing or having undergone IVF were interviewed. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the effect of IVF on occupational balance. Three themes emerged, tunnel vision, it's all on me, and I'm not enough, highlighting the challenges faced by women during the IVF journey that affect their occupational balance. Participants reported a lack of occupational balance due to the intense focus on IVF, overwhelming responsibilities, inadequate support, anxiety, depression, and self-doubt. Comprehensive, holistic support and intervention are necessary to address the occupational well-being of women undergoing IVF and can be provided by OTPs.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF THE ARTICLE This article describes a conceptual and methodological approach to integrating functional information into an ontology to categorize mental functioning, which to date is an under-developed area of classification, and supports our work with the United States (U.S.) Social Security Administration (SSA). DESIGN AND METHODOLOGICAL PROCEDURES Conceptualizing and defining mental functioning was paramount to develop natural language processing (NLP) tools to support our use case. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) was the framework used to conceptualize mental functioning at the activities and participation level in clinical records. To address challenges that arose when applying the ICF as to what should or should not be classified as mental functioning, a mental functioning domain ontology was developed that rearranged, reclassified and incorporated all ICF key components, concepts, classifications, and their definitions. CONCLUSIONS Challenges emerged in the extent to which we could directly align components in the ICF into an applied ontology of mental functioning. These conceptual challenges required rearrangement of ICF components to adequately support our use case within the social security disability determination process. Findings also have implications to support future NLP efforts for behavioral health outcomes and policy research.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Occupational therapists have vital roles in inpatient rehabilitation to focus on independence in activities of daily living. Occupational therapy interventions are uniquely designed to address goals of service users and can be delivered individually or in group formats. Group interventions promote service users' mutual support and enable therapists to increase frequency and intensity of service provision. Student-led programs have become an attractive model, benefiting students while providing positive treatment outcomes for service users. There is an emerging body of literature that explores service users' and students' satisfaction with student-led group models of practice within inpatient rehabilitation and occupational performance outcomes of service users participating in student-led programs. This study aimed to explore the satisfaction of service users and students in addition to the self-reported occupational performance outcomes of a student-led activities of daily living group program in inpatient rehabilitation. METHODS Data from 33 service users and seven students were collected retrospectively. The intervention involved a student-led activities of daily living group program, consisting of three groups: breakfast, morning tea, and home readiness group. All service users and students completed unique satisfaction surveys at the conclusion of their participation in the student-led program. Service users completed a self-reported activities of daily living performance measure pre- and post-program. Findings were reported in descriptive statistics, and pre- and post-program data were compared with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. RESULTS All students were satisfied with the student-led program. Majority of service users were satisfied with all components of the student-led program. Median scores for self-reported performance increased significantly following the student-led program (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION This study highlighted that service users and students were satisfied with the service delivery of a student-led activities of daily living group program. The program was effective in addressing self-reported performance for service users in inpatient rehabilitation. The findings from this study have potential to inform clinical practice on the implementation of student-led programs in occupational therapy settings.

Abstract
Intergenerational programs in residential aged care may improve well-being and combat loneliness and social isolation in older people with cognitive impairment. This pilot study investigated the effects of a semi-structured intergenerational group, including children from a co-located early learning centre and people living in residential aged care with cognitive impairment. This 9-week study used a mixed methods pre- and post-program design. Sessions were designed and delivered once per week by Occupational Therapists and took into account residents' interests and children's developmental needs and interests, identified in pre-program interviews. Nine older people with cognitive impairment and 13 children participated. The program was well attended despite disruptions and complications caused by COVID-19 and weather conditions. Older people valued the opportunity to engage with the children. Children were observed to gain confidence in communicating and forming friendships with older people with different levels of ability. There did not appear to be any change in loneliness or neuropsychiatric symptoms. The intergenerational program benefited participants and received strong support from family members and staff of the early learning centre and aged care home.

Abstract
Identity Development Evolution and Sharing (IDEAS) reduces provider stigma, but few have been trained to implement IDEAS, highlighting a need for implementation strategies that facilitate uptake. We evaluated whether external facilitation successfully supported IDEAS implementation and whether IDEAS reduced provider stigma within and across sites irrespective of implementation barriers and facilitators. Key informants from 10 sites completed interviews and surveys of appropriateness, acceptability, and feasibility. Interviews were analyzed using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research guidelines. Intervention effectiveness was measured via paired t tests of pre-/post-quantitative data on provider stigma completed by practitioners who attended the training. Ten sites successfully implemented IDEAS via external facilitation; 58 practitioners from nine sites completed pre- and post-surveys. Data showed significant decreases in stigma after the intervention. IDEAS, supported by external facilitation, is a feasible, acceptable, and appropriate means of reducing stigma among occupational therapy practitioners.

Abstract
The purpose of this program evaluation was to examine preliminary outcomes associated with a novel stepdown program for clients of early intervention in psychosis services ("Step Up") that featured occupational therapy (OT) as a critical treatment component. Clients participated in Step Up for at least 6 months and were administered pre-post assessments of clinician-rated performance of daily living activities and self-perceived performance and satisfaction with daily occupational functioning. Paired samples Wilcoxon tests were used to compare outcomes across the two time points. Data from 23 participants of Step Up were analyzed. Clinician-rated performance of daily living (especially in the areas of money and time management and leisure engagement) and client-rated performance and satisfaction with daily occupational functioning improved significantly over time. Results demonstrate the promise of programs such as Step Up that capitalize on OT and promote functional outcomes during the transition from early intervention.

Abstract
Occupational therapists need to comprehensively assess the participation of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in daily activities and evaluate the effectiveness of relevant interventions. Several participation measurement tools have been developed for children with ASD, but these tools require expert involvement, which is a barrier to large-scale surveys. To address these concerns, a caregiver-administered questionnaire-the Participation Questionnaire for Preschoolers (PQP)-was developed. However, this tool could be improved due to its narrow age range of 48-72 months and because the item development process does not reflect the perspectives of children and caregivers. Therefore, we expanded the PQP's target age range to 36-83 months and developed new items that reflect the perspectives of professionals and caregivers. Interviews were conducted with eight experts in supporting children with ASD and 11 caregivers of children with ASD. The interviews were transcribed, and a content analysis was performed. The number of questions was reduced from 51 to 36, and the order of items was changed for clarity. Two of the eight subdomains were removed to clarify the conceptual difference between activity and participation. The updated version of the PQP has two unique features: (1) it can be administered without expert involvement, and (2) it includes items specific to the challenges faced by children with ASD. Future development of the scale and validation of its measurement properties are needed.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the demand for home rehabilitation services, leading to the development and rising demand for cognitive rehabilitation apps. However, a comprehensive analysis of the content and effectiveness of these apps is needed. This study systematically reviewed and analyzed the literature on mobile apps for cognitive rehabilitation. One researcher and an external expert conducted the study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment following the PRISMA Checklist 2020 guidelines. Our review of 18 studies identified 8 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (44.44%) of high quality and 10 non-RCT studies (55.56%) of moderate quality. Overall, 16 of the 18 studies (88.88%) demonstrated positive clinical implications for cognitive function after using cognitive rehabilitation apps. Eight studies showed a correlation between app use and improved cognitive function, and four highlighted the potential for cognitive function evaluation through apps. All studies employed various occupational therapy (OT) intervention approaches, with prevention being the most common (100%), followed by establishment and restoration (83.33%), maintenance (77.77%), and creation and promotion (38.88%). This study clinically validates the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation mobile applications from an occupational therapy perspective.

Abstract
AIM This scoping review synthesizes literature about occupational therapy parent-mediated interventions (PMIs) that target occupation-based outcomes for children with developmental disabilities (DD). METHODS A search of PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL from 2010 through 2023 was performed resulting in 471 publications. Studies were included if they involved PMIs for participants with DD aged 3-12 years and were published in English. Studies were excluded if the outcomes were not occupation-based. A thematic analysis was conducted following an iterative review of charted data. RESULTS Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria reflecting four themes across occupational therapy PMIs, including variation in terminologies, types of PMIs, key components of PMIs, and the overall impact. While the effects of PMIs are difficult to define due to the variability in the samples, interventions, and outcomes, this review suggests general positive impacts of PMIs. CONCLUSION The emerging body of evidence supporting PMIs within the field of occupational therapy suggests they are feasible and have the potential to improve child and parent outcomes when delivered to children with DD. Further research is needed to clarify PMIs' components, unify the identification terminology, and test the efficacy of different types of PMIs for specific populations.

Abstract
Occupational therapists address physical environments, which can improve outcomes for youth with asthma, a prevalent chronic childhood illness. This study examines pediatric occupational therapists' perceptions of their role supporting youth with asthma, perceived usability of an occupational therapy asthma home assessment, and the impact of asthma on participation. A cross-sectional exploratory survey of 171 participants found that despite lack of tools for asthma trigger reduction assessment and intervention, therapists believe it is within their scope of practice and that they would benefit from an occupational therapy-based asthma tool. Occupational therapists should be members of multidisciplinary asthma teams, and assess and address environmental triggers.

Abstract
PURPOSE Long COVID presents global challenges for healthcare professionals. Occupational therapists responded by seeking effective treatment strategies. The approaches of occupational therapists supporting long-haulers in German-speaking countries remain under-explored. The purpose of this study is to explore how occupational therapists in Germany, Austria and Switzerland navigate and apply profession-specific strategies in the new clinical landscape of Long COVID care. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study used qualitative-descriptive design and content analysis to extract insights from seven semi-structured interviews with occupational therapists in inpatient and outpatient settings from three countries. RESULTS Four overarching themes emerged: how Long COVID was encountered within the scope of occupational therapy, the multifaceted repertoire experts used to support long haulers, triumphs and challenges that emerged in Long COVID treatment, and recommendations and opportunities for occupational therapy practice. The results underscore the complex support needed for long-haulers, achieved through a multifaceted occupational therapy repertoire, incorporating client-centred, occupation-focused, and context-referencing strategies with shared decision-making and collaborative therapy planning. CONCLUSIONS Occupational therapy concepts, with their focus on human occupation, may offer new treatment options and strategies for managing emerging conditions such as Long COVID.

Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative constructivist grounded theory study was to develop a model to explain potential mechanisms of change in the nature-based pediatric occupational therapy process, based on analysis of the perspectives of occupational therapy practitioners currently engaging in nature-based practice with children. Using 27 photos and interview data from 22 participants the Ecology of Change in Outdoor Therapy (ECO-Therapy) Model was developed. The model suggests mechanisms of change in nature-based pediatric occupational therapy may involve six iterative phases: Longing for Freedom, Embarking on Adventure, Dancing with Nature, Claiming Self-Agency, Braving Real-Life Challenges, and Growing Adaptive Capacity. The practitioner and child experiencing these phases throughout the nature-based occupational therapy process may lead to improved participation and performance in the child's daily life.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of custom seating and mobility services provided via an international service learning (ISL) model on the occupational performance of individuals with disabilities in Guatemala. A one-group prospective pretest-posttest design was implemented using the standardized Wheelchair Outcome Measure (WhOM - Spanish) administered on the day of wheelchair fitting, and at 3- and 6-month intervals after receiving seating and mobility services. A two-tailed t-test demonstrated a statistically significant (p < 0.001) improvement in satisfaction for in-home and out-of-home occupations for all participants (n = 71) at 3-months with a huge effect size (d > 2) and this improvement was maintained at the 6-month interval. The results were consistent for various areas of occupational performance (e.g. activities of daily living). The provision of customized seating and mobility services by occupational therapists through an ISL model demonstrated effectiveness at improving satisfaction with occupational performance for individuals with disabilities in Guatemala. Cultural humility, customization of equipment based on personal and environmental factors, inclusion of education and training, and collaboration with in-country partners were identified as contributors to positive outcomes.

Abstract
Adults with multiple chronic conditions (MCCs) often face difficulties with medication management, affecting their experiences of well-being and illness. The objective of this study was to identify and describe the occupational experiences of medication management and their impact on well-being and illness in adults living with MCCs. We used document analysis methods to analyze 134 illness narrative blog posts authored by 52 adults aged 18 and older with MCCs. Content and thematic analysis of their textual content was based on the Pan Occupational Paradigm. Medication management is enacted through the dimensions of doing, belonging, becoming, being, and knowing, in an interconnected, nonlinear manner, with a more notable impact on illness than well-being due to the complexities associated with medication management for MCCs. Occupational therapy practices for medication management should consider all occupational dimensions and their impact on health rather than focusing primarily on the performance of medication tasks and routines.

Abstract
Stroke survivors face participation restrictions, yet little is known regarding how social support affects the association between an individual's abilities and participation. Through a Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance (PEOP) model lens, social support was examined as a potential mediator between ability and participation in cognitively and mobility-demanding activities for stroke survivors with aphasia (persons with aphasia [PWA]) and without aphasia (persons without aphasia [PWOA]). A cross-sectional design, including PWA (n = 50) and PWOA (n = 59) examined associations among person factors (physical impairment, cognition), an environmental factor (social support), and occupational participation through cognitively- and mobility-demanding activity subscales of the Activity Card Sort. Cognition was associated with participation in cognitively demanding activities for both groups, though social support was a mediator only for PWA. Physical impairment was associated with participation in mobility-demanding activities for PWOA, though social support did not mediate that relationship. Social support is key to PWA participating in cognitively demanding activities post-stroke.

Abstract
The purpose of the pilot survey was to understand current practice patterns and responses to the Patient-Driven Groupings Model and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in home health occupational therapy care. Fifty home health occupational therapy practitioners from 27 states in the United States completed the survey. Descriptive analysis was used to organize and summarize survey responses. The survey items on practice patterns included assessment tools, treatment approaches, and care coordination with physical therapy colleagues. The most reported assessment of occupational performance was the Barthel Index. The common treatment approaches included activities of daily living retraining, energy conservation, and functional mobility and transfer. The majority of respondents (n = 44) communicated with their physical therapy colleagues at least once a week. The communications were often related to scheduling and changes in a patient's condition. Seventy percent of practitioners experienced a reduction in home visits during the recent Medicare payment reform and the pandemic. These practitioners perceived that some patients might have been discharged from home health care prematurely. Additional studies to investigate the impact of policy changes and the pandemic on therapy intensity and patients' functional outcomes are warranted.

Abstract
Black married working mothers encounter forms of racism, on the job and in society. However, little attention is given to how these experiences affect their work and family lives. Qualitative thematic analysis was used to examine the narratives of 91 Black women, aged 20 to 55 years, to explore the effects of racism on their key occupational roles of wife, employee, and mother. Four major themes emerged for being a Black employee. Two themes were linked to Black mothering. Five themes were identified for being a Black wife. Also, two new culturally derived occupational roles emerged: advocate and pioneer. Findings suggest that Black married working mothers have unique transformative experiences in their occupational roles solely due to their minoritized status, which impacts their wellbeing. Occupation-based research should focus on racism's impact on the wellbeing of minoritized groups as they engage in desired and meaningful occupational roles.

Abstract
Historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups are underrepresented in autism research broadly; however, patterns of inclusion in occupational therapy research are unknown.In this secondary data analysis, we examined race and ethnicity reporting across articles included in a systematic review of evidence related to occupational therapy practice with autistic individuals <18 years (2013-2021).Two team members reached >90% interrater coding agreement in race and ethnicity reporting across articles in ADLs/IADLs, education/work, play, sleep, and social participation in clinics, homes/communities, and schools.Intervention outcomes of ADL/IADLs (66.7%) and play (66.7%) had low rates of reporting, while social participation in schools (100%) and education/work (100%) had higher rates of reporting. Sample diversity was greatest among research in schools and most limited in clinic-based settings.Systemic racism that limits individuals' participation in occupational therapy research perpetuates racial and ethnic health inequities among autistic children and adolescents.

Abstract
Interoception supports the ability to notice, interpret, and react to internal sensations and impacts emotional regulation and participation in meaningful activities. This study aimed to expand evidence regarding the efficacy of a 7-week intervention based on The Interoception Curriculum: A Guide to Developing Mindful Self-Regulation in improving interoception and emotional regulation. We purposefully sampled middle-school participants (N = 9) with several diagnoses from a special education classroom. Self-report and teacher-report measures on interoceptive awareness and emotional regulation were collected before and after implementation of the interoception intervention. Statistically significant correlations were seen between the interoceptive awareness and emotional regulation and improvements in interoceptive awareness and emotional regulation were found following the intervention. In a small one group pretest/post-test design, a seven-week intervention based on the interoception curriculum demonstrated feasibility of this approach for children in a special education classroom and outcomes showed that interoceptive awareness and emotional regulation could improve after participation in this intervention.

Abstract
The Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance (PEOP) Model is one of several occupation-based models in occupational therapy. The model describes the transactional nature of person, environment, and occupation factors that support performance (doing), participation (engagement), and well-being (health and quality of life). The purpose of this study was to explore the extent and nature of evidence on the PEOP Model. We used a scoping review to identify and analyze journal articles that used the PEOP Model as a framework for study. The PRISMA extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) criteria were used to develop the research methods. We found 109 articles that adopted the PEOP Model as an organizing framework. The studies reviewed represent the breadth of occupational therapy practice and the transactional nature of person, environment, occupation, and performance in the PEOP Model. The PEOP Model is a useful international framework for research and practice across populations, conditions, life circumstances, settings, and areas of practice.

Abstract
RATIONALE Stigma permeates disability experiences and compounds disability-related challenges. OBJECTIVE Identify individual and environmental factors of stigmatizing experiences of college students with learning disabilities (LDs) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). METHODOLOGY A qualitative descriptive design was used with a thematic analysis of 30 transcripts from group discussions among four cohorts of undergraduates with LD/ADHD (N = 52). The Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance Model was used in interpreting the stigmatizing experiences. FINDINGS The themes Perceived Misconceptions and Stigmatizing Actions describe key social-environmental factors. The theme Overcoming Stigmatizing Experiences elucidates key skills and processes for developing stigma resilience. These skills and processes were anchored in self-awareness and personally contextualized understanding of disability-related challenges and strengths, which were fostered during positive interactions with supportive others, such as instructors and mentors. IMPLICATIONS Findings illustrate the biopsychosocial nature of stigma and highlight the role of individual and social-environmental factors in building stigma resilience among young adults with LD/ADHD.

Abstract
Employment intervention is essential for supporting people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD), who leave the workforce on average 5 years earlier than those without Parkinson's disease (PD). We developed a framework for occupational therapists (OTs) to address employment for PwPD. Our qualitative analysis employed data source triangulation of environmental scan of resources and publications, electronic medical records data, and focus groups with clinicians and PwPD. The framework underwent expert panel review by OTs and researchers who are knowledgeable of current evidence-based practices for PD. The framework is based on the Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance (PEOP) Model and PEOP Occupational Therapy Process and comprised of four parts: PEOP features of PD relevant to employment, performance changes experienced by PwPD, a process to evaluate and address employment, and intervention ideas. This framework serves as an impetus to explore evidence-based, scalable, proactive intervention approaches to address employment in PwPD.

Abstract
The disruption in daily activity performance during COVID-19 lockdowns is widely understood to have impacted health, but a better understanding of how restricted performance of specific activities are associated with health is needed. This cross-sectional study answers the following question: How were changes in the performance of 16 daily activities associated with health during COVID-19 lockdowns? A total of 116 participants completed an online survey rating their health before and during COVID-19 lockdowns and comparing their recollection of the performance of 16 activities before COVID-19 with their performance during lockdowns. Multiple stepwise linear regression analysis was used to estimate the relationship between self-reported changes in activities during lockdowns and concurrent (during-lockdown) health status, while controlling for pre-COVID-19 health status. Only changes in activities that were uniquely and significantly associated with lockdown health status were retained in the final model. Health before COVID-19 accounted for 3.7% (P = 0.039) of the variance in health during COVID-19 lockdowns. After controlling for health before COVID-19, five types of activity were significantly and uniquely predictive of health during lockdowns, together accounting for 48.3% of the variance. These activities and the variances they accounted for were rest and sleep (29.5%, P < 0.001), play and recreational activities (8%, P < 0.001), work (4.8%, P = 0.002), personal hygiene (3.2%, P = 0.01), and healthy eating (2.8%, P = 0.013). The study suggests that these five types of activity should be prioritized in policy or interventions when participation in activity is constrained by lockdowns or comparable factors.

The evaluation of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) has become a critical issue in neuropsychology, but existing instruments for evaluating ADL have some limitations. This work aims to propose a new instrument to evaluate ADL, the ADL Inventory (ADLI), for which we present preliminary data. The ADLI was developed based on a comprehensive model of the stages of test development and following a combined framework of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health and the American Occupational Therapy Association models. Besides sociodemographic information, ADLI includes 144 items, organized into four sections: (a) basic ADL; (b) IADL; (c) advanced ADL; and (d) factors influencing functionality. The main characteristics of ADLI are: having self- and informant-report forms; including items focused on different sensory and neurocognitive functions; individualizing the progression along items considering the person's functionality; considering the impact of several factors on functionality; and using a large response scale. Preliminary data of predictive and convergent validity for ADLI are presented. The preliminary study comprised 15 older adults. The Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination - III, the Barthel Index, and the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) Scale were applied to determine the predictive and convergent validity of ADLI.

Abstract
As the occupational therapy profession is rooted in Western ideals, it may encounter complexities in culturally traditional settings like Palestine, especially for adults. This study reveals the challenges faced by occupational therapists in Palestine. A phenomenological qualitative approach was used, interviewing six experienced female therapists using semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling ensured a diverse participant selection. Thematic analysis revealed several key themes, such as the continuous adaptation to Western practices to fit the Palestinian context, the value of interdependence, and the unique life balance. Results show that cultural and gender norms significantly shape occupational therapy practices in Palestine. The discussion emphasizes the theoretical necessity for cultural sensitivity in occupational therapy, advocating alignment with local values and addressing resource limitations for effective service delivery.

Abstract
Over half of women in the United States report urinary incontinence (UI). This condition can be treated conservatively, but many people do not seek treatment. The current correlational study assessed women's knowledge of UI. Specifically, we investigated the relationships between knowledge level about UI and quality of life (QoL), and between severity level of UI and QoL. A convenience cross-sectional sample of 39 older women was obtained from two YMCA locations. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient. A significant relationship was found between severity of UI and QoL, rs = -.73, p < .001; no relationship was found between knowledge level of UI and QoL, rs = .24, p = .13. Results suggested women's knowledge about the causes of UI and conservative therapy is limited. Occupational therapists need to address UI with their patients and educate them about treatment options and availability.

Abstract
Background Occupational therapists can play a key role in early identification of delay at the population health level by providing education to public health employees on how to implement developmental monitoring with caregivers of children birth to age 5. Methods A pretest posttest design was utilized to assess the online education and training that was provided to Department of Public Health employees (N = 339), including Head Start, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, Home Visiting, and Early Intervention. Results Analysis of pretest-posttest survey data showed significant results for all 12 key learning outcomes. Six out of 12 outcomes were found to have a large effect size (d > 0.8), 4 outcomes indicated a medium effect size (d > 0.5), and 2 outcomes had a small effect size (d > 0.2). Participants gained knowledge of the "Learn the Signs. Act Early." (LTSAE) developmental monitoring program, the difference between developmental monitoring and screening, the state's referral system and age-appropriate parental engagement activities through knowledge of child development. Conclusions Occupational therapists are child development specialists who can provide education on developmental monitoring and activities for parental engagement. The online course proved to be an effective platform to promote LTSAE within state agencies.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examined how the use of occupational therapy services affected the likelihood of hospital readmission within 30 days for patients with cancer diagnoses. METHODOLOGY This was a retrospective observational study. Patient medical records were analyzed from a National Cancer Institute Hospital over a 5-year period with a sample size of 6614 patients included for analysis in an unadjusted logistic regression model and 1920 patients analyzed in an adjusted logistic regression model. Various factors, including the use of occupational therapy services as well as individual factors such as pain levels, cancer stage, and living environment, were considered in relation to readmission status. Logistic regression analyses were used to assess the provision of occupational therapy service's association with 30-day hospital readmissions. RESULTS Patients who received occupational therapy services had a statistically significant decrease in their risk of a 30-day hospital readmission compared to patients with cancer who did not receive occupational therapy services. In an unadjusted analysis, patients with cancer who had occupational therapy services were 33.5% (OR = 0.665) less likely to be readmitted within 30 days compared to a patient who did not have occupational therapy services (p < 0.001). In an analysis after adjusting for patient health-related factors, patients with cancer who had occupational therapy services were 22.2% (OR = 0.778) less likely to readmit to a hospital compared to a patient who did not have occupational therapy services (p < 0.046). CONCLUSION The results of the study are intended to contribute to the body of knowledge on the benefits of occupational therapy services on an individual as well as a health systems-based level for patients with cancer diagnoses while hospitalized. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS The knowledge of the utility of occupational therapy services for patients with cancer diagnoses while in the hospital can assist providers, patients, and hospital leadership in understanding some of the potential benefits for patient care and healthcare systems at large while seeking to avoid the deleterious effects from a hospital readmission.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The high unemployment rate among people with disabilities (PWDs) can be attributed to barriers found in the work environment and demands of the job itself. Given the lack of comprehensive tools to identify these barriers, we developed the Employment Barriers Questionnaire (EBQ). OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to develop and examine the EBQ's reliability and validity for detecting employment barriers and possible modifications to overcome them. METHODS Two stages were conducted: stage I was a cross-sectional design. Stage II included a cross-sectional and prospective design. Thirty-nine people with physical disabilities (mean age 47.21±10.78 years) were recruited, 51% of which were employed during data collection. During stage I, we developed a first version of the EBQ (EBQ.I) and evaluated its internal reliability. The EBQ.I was filled twice, one week apart to assess test-re-test reliability. Predictive validity was tested using a regression model to predict the employment status of stage II based on EBQ.I's results from stage I. In stage II, we generated a second version (EBQ.II) and tested its internal-reliability and known-groups validity, by comparing the EBQ.II's results between employed and unemployed subjects. RESULTS The results showed that the EBQ.II has a high internal-reliability (α= 0.79-0.97) and a medium-large known-groups validity (-3.95≤Z≤-2.26, p < 0.05). Additionally, the EBQ.I has a high test re-test reliability (ICC = 0.85-0.94, p < 0.001) and predictive validity (β= 0.861, p = 0.033). CONCLUSION This study has illustrated that the EBQ.II is a unique, reliable and valid tool for identifying employment barriers and modifications to address them, expected to improve vocational rehabilitation efforts.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Distal radius fracture (DRF) is one of the most common upper extremity fractures treated by hand therapists and can lead to chronic physical impairment and reduced occupational performance. This scoping review aimed to reveal what is currently known about occupational performance following DRF and to explore if and how occupational performance is defined and considered in the research. METHODS This review was guided by the PRISMA-Scoping review and the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines. Relevant databases were searched, and studies that addressed occupation performance in adult participants following DRF were included. The findings were summarised according to the components of occupational performance (person, occupation, and environment), and quality was measured using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. RESULTS Forty-three articles met the eligibility criteria for inclusion. All of the studies discussed at least two components of occupational performance, while 25 recognised all three. The consideration of occupational performance was dominated by biomechanical issues associated with the person component (i.e. range of motion, strength). There was some acknowledgement of the psychosocial aspects of the person and, to a lesser extent, the environment, as well as the impact of both on return to occupational performance. CONCLUSION Despite occupational performance being at the core of occupational therapy theory, its consideration within the context of research on DRF appears to be focussed on the person component of occupational performance and on biomechanical issues. Further research is recommended to determine how much this reflects current clinical practice and if a more comprehensive consideration of occupational performance will improve rates of recovery following DRF. CONSUMER AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT As part of the protocol development for this review, consumers and stakeholders were consulted. They provided feedback on clarity and importance of the research questions. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY A distal radius fracture happens when you break the bone on the thumb side of your wrist. This type of injury often occurs when you fall and land on an outstretched hand. It is one of the more common injuries that hand therapists see in their practice. For some people, recovering from this fracture can take a long time and come with a lot of pain, difficulty moving, and emotional stress. These problems can make it hard to do everyday things like driving, cooking, or getting dressed. It can also affect both paid and unpaid work as well as leisure and social activities, making life more difficult for everyone involved. The findings from this review suggest that the current research usually focuses on how the body physically heals from this type of injury, but it does not pay as much attention to the emotional and social impact on healing. Also, it does not always discuss the activities that are important to the person, or the environment where they live, work, and socialise. This may show a gap in the research regarding our full comprehension of recovery from distal radius fractures. Taking a broader view and approach to recovery, considering a person's emotions, social life, environment, and daily activities, could help people recover fully and get back to their previous life routines and roles after this type of injury.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sleep deprivation is rampant within the military population, and insufficient sleep can lead to physical and mental health problems impacting soldier's readiness and deployability. Past research has shown the importance of leadership's role in subordinates' sleep health. Understanding the values, beliefs, and quality of military leader sleep is essential to the development of effective interventions to optimize occupational performance and overall sleep health. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the military leaders' values, beliefs, and sleep quality and the impact on occupational performance. The authors aimed to (1) identify military leaders' sleep quality and beliefs; (2) explore the relationship between military leaders' sleep quality, beliefs and attitudes about sleep, and impact on occupational performance; and (3) examine the value leaders place on sleep for themselves and subordinates in relation to occupational performance. MATERIALS AND METHODS This observational, mixed-methods study design recruited a convenience sample of 109 Army active duty medical service members currently serving in a leadership role. Participants completed an electronic survey to include general demographic information and three self-report measures: the Pittsburgh Quality of Sleep Index, the Dysfunctional Beliefs about Sleep, and the Functional Outcomes of Sleep Questionnaire. Eleven participants completed the semi-structured qualitative interview focusing on sleep values and the impacts on performance. Univariate and multivariate regressions were performed for statistical analysis of the quantitative survey data, whereas thematic analysis was used to analyze the qualitative interview data. This study was approved by the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence Institutional Review Board. RESULTS Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated small-to-medium effect sizes (R2 = 0.355-0.559) for relationships between sleep quality, sleep beliefs, functional performance, and demographic variables. More specifically, military grade, position, use of alcohol, time in service, and gender were all found to contribute significantly to scores on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Dysfunctional Beliefs About Sleep Scale-16, and the Functional Outcomes of Sleep Questionnaire-10 (P < .05). Qualitative data resulted in three primary themes: (1) Poor sleep degrades performance, (2) sleep is a top priority, and (3) leaders have a responsibility for subordinates' sleep health. CONCLUSIONS This sample of military leaders was found to perceive themselves as poor-quality sleepers despite demonstrating more functional attitudes and beliefs about sleep and reporting normal-to-mild impairments in daily functioning as a result of daytime sleepiness. Furthermore, findings suggest that leaders' sleep quality and beliefs stand to be further improved, whereas their sleep values need to be consistently demonstrated to subordinates. With a clearer understanding of military leaders' values, beliefs, and sleep quality, future research could focus on implementing and developing holistically based and individualized sleep interventions intended to optimize performance and sleep health.

Abstract
The study aim was to identify the most problematic self--reported activities of daily living (ADLs). In a retrospective study, 1935 problematic ADLs were reported by 538 clients with 95% experiencing two or more problematic ADLs. Problematic ADLs were assessed by occupational therapists using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure with walking (67%), household activities (41%), and climbing the stairs (41%) identified as the most prevalent problematic ADLs. Significant but weak associations were found between clinical determinants (e.g. physical, psychosocial) and problematic ADLs. The wide variety of problematic ADLs and the absence of a strong association with clinical determinants emphasizes the need for using individualized interview-based performance measures in clients with asthma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim is to examine whether the addition of Virtual Reality (VR) meditation training to a standard 8-week Mindfulness-Based Health Care Program (MBHC-VR) results in a significantly increased improvement in occupational, mental health, and psychological functioning versus MBHC-only in university students. MATERIALS AND METHODS A randomized controlled clinical trial with three arms (MBHC, MBHC-VR, Control Group), four assessment time points (pre-intervention, inter-session, post-intervention, and 3-month follow-up), and mixed methodology will be proposed. University students (undergraduate, master, or doctoral) interested in participating and who meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria will be included over two years. Data will be collected from different ad hoc questionnaires, several standardized tests, and an Ecological Momentary Assessment. We will use R software to carry out descriptive analyses (univariate and bivariate), multilevel modeling, and structural equation models to respond to the proposed objective. The qualitative analysis will be carried out using the MAXQDA program and the technique of focus groups. DISCUSSION It is expected that with the proposed intervention university students will learn to relate in a healthier way with their mental processes, so as to improve their occupational balance (OB) and their psychological well-being. Abstract
Although occupational therapists engage as part of interprofessional healthcare teams, explicit investigation into their experiences of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) has not been explored. This study evaluated occupational therapists in the United States experiences of IPCP with additional inquiry into which healthcare professionals occupational therapy practitioners interact with and how they engage in collaboration, during IPCP. An exploratory cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey; 142 occupational therapy practitioners responded. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and bivariate analyses; open-ended responses underwent consensual qualitative analysis. Participants reported most often engaging in IPCP with physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, physicians, and case managers, although variations in the top five professions were evident between practice settings. In addition, 82% of the respondents reported either feeling prepared or very prepared for IPCP after completing their pre-licensed educational programs. Two qualitative themes have emerged to describe key education-oriented and practice-oriented interprofessional experiences. To further enhance engagement in and preparedness for IPCP, occupational therapy professionals, and students may benefit from interprofessional training that involves the professions most often encountered during clinical practice. This type of learning could foster an understanding of communication and teamwork, thus enhancing readiness to participate in the IPCP team upon transition to practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Occupation-based interventions use engagement in a person's daily activities to achieve change. There is growing research into the use of occupation-based group interventions in the inpatient rehabilitation setting. It remains unclear whether occupation-based groups offer comparable outcomes to occupation-based interventions delivered individually; this research will precede a clinical trial aimed at comparing these two approaches for improving occupational performance outcomes. This study details the process of co-designing the intervention. Partnering with clinicians and patients in the design of healthcare interventions can promote patient-centred care, enhance uptake, and improve applicability and sustainability of the intervention to that setting. METHODS A modified nominal group technique (NGT) design was applied to facilitate two meetings and an electronic survey with an expert panel of clinicians and patients. Twelve participants (n = 4 occupational therapists, n = 1 registered nurse, n = 1 physiotherapist, n = 1 occupational therapy assistant, n = 1 occupational therapy manager, and n = 4 patients) were purposively recruited. A modified approach to the technique's four stages was used: silent generation, round robin, clarification, and voting. Consensus was set at >50%. Qualitative data from group discussions were analysed thematically. FINDINGS All participants agreed the intervention should include patient-centred, goal-directed, practice of daily activities, including breakfast and lunch preparation, domestic tasks, and laundry. Other components that were agreed included where the groups could run, group size, eligibility criteria, and frequency. Key themes from clinicians included needing a goal-directed intervention, focused on progressing towards hospital discharge; time and resource requirements were also discussed. Patients emphasised the importance of building social connections, opportunity to engage in meaningful activity, and the importance of linking participation to patient goals. CONCLUSION Through collaboration with clinicians and patients, an occupation-based group intervention considering the available evidence, alongside clinical, experiential, and contextual sources of knowledge was developed; this resulted in an evidence-based, patient-centred, and contextually relevant intervention.

Abstract
The increase in older adults with dementia presents challenges in promoting research to improve the quality of life of this population. The objective of this study was to assess the scientific evidence on the effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions in improving the quality of life of older adults over 65 years old with dementia living in nursing homes. The databases used were PubMed, Web of Science, OTSeeker, clinicaltrials.gov, Dialnet, Scopus, Cochrane, and SciELO between 2013 and 2023. The studies were selected and evaluated according to the Cochrane guidelines. The review was carried out following the PRISMA 2020 Statement. Sixteen articles met the inclusion criteria and were categorized into four groups according to the focus of the intervention: "meaningful activities/occupations", "physical, cognitive and sensory functioning", "performance areas", and "physical and social environment and staff training". The strength of evidence was moderate, and the risk of bias was low. The findings revealed that occupational therapy interventions based on participation in recreational activities, reminiscence, performance-based activities and the physical and social environment, and specialized staff training, could improve the perceived quality of life of older adults with dementia living in nursing homes.

Abstract
There is a lack of peer-reviewed research on occupational therapy using Zones of Regulation™ concepts for autistic youth. The purpose of this article is to describe the feasibility of a newly-developed occupational therapy intervention using Zones of Regulation™ concepts (OT-ZOR) for autistic youth. Specifically, we aimed to evaluate: (a) participant recruitment, retention, and attendance; (b) intervention fidelity, safety, and assessment completion; (c) intervention acceptability; and (d) preliminary participant outcomes. A single-arm feasibility study was completed with outcome measures before and after 10 weeks of OT-ZOR. Fourteen autistic youth ages 6 to 13 completed the study. Youth attended 94% of OT-ZOR sessions. Providers achieved 97% fidelity to the intervention. Occupational therapists and caregivers expressed overall satisfaction with the OT-ZOR intervention. Youth demonstrated significant decreases in irritability, hyperactivity, emotional reactivity, and dysphoria. OT-ZOR is feasible to implement, acceptable to providers and caregivers, and may improve self-regulation in autistic youth.

Abstract
Objectives The prevalence of e-cigarettes is significantly increasing among adults as an alternative method to tobacco smoking. However, the chemical products of e-cigarettes have an influence on human general health. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the association between e-cigarette use and psychological distress as well as participation in daily activities among adults in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It also evaluates the demographic profile and usage patterns of e-cigarette users. Methods This cross-sectional study involved 396 e-cigarette smokers in Riyadh city. An online survey was administered, including questions about smoking patterns and the perceived effects of e-cigarettes on activities of daily living. Additionally, mental health were assessed using the Kessler 6 scale. Results Most of the participants were educated young males (61.4%). About 29.5% of the participants reported using e-cigarettes primarily to quit tobacco cigarettes. In addition, e-cigarette usage was significantly associated with lower participation in activities of daily living and higher psychological distress. Conclusion This study found that many e-cigarette users are well-educated young individuals who use e-cigarettes as a substitute for traditional cigarettes. However, the study also revealed that using e-cigarettes is associated with negative effects on smokers' daily activities and mental health.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Successful return to pre-injury occupational performance following distal radius fracture (DRF) may be influenced by person and environment factors such as pain, age, social support, and socioeconomic status. The primary aim of this study was to explore Australian hand therapists' current clinical practice and determine whether they consider these factors during the management of DRF. METHODS A mixed methods online survey was distributed to members of the Australian Hand Therapy Association. Descriptive statistics were used to examine the quantitative data, and the qualitative data were analysed by content analysis. RESULTS Of the 120 members who completed the survey, 68% were occupational therapists and 32% were physiotherapists with 74% in the private and 26% in the public health-care setting. Most factors perceived to influence recovery were consistent with person factors and a biomechanical approach. Other factors related to occupational performance, such as social and leisure skills, environment and culture were reported less often. When asked about defining occupational performance, the key categories identified through qualitative open responses were 'performing meaningful activities/occupations', 'performing work/employment', and 'completing activities/function'. CONCLUSION The data suggest that hand therapists in Australia primarily identify person factors as key to recovery after DRF. Context and environmental factors that influence occupational performance did not appear to be considered as often during treatment or when defining occupational performance. Further research is needed to explore the contextual and environmental factors that influence hand therapy intervention and determine whether they play a role in the successful return to pre-injury occupational performance following DRF. CONSUMER AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT The survey was conceptualised by the research team, which included two experienced hand therapists and piloted with 10 consumers. Hand therapists (consumers) of various years of experience and discipline (i.e., occupational therapy and physiotherapy) provided feedback to improve the survey in terms of content, comprehensibility, and length. No clients/patients of hand therapists were involved in the development of the survey or the study, and the consumers of the study were considered hand therapists.

Abstract
In order to gain a better understanding of post-stroke dietary behaviors (e.g., selecting, accessing, and preparing healthy foods) among chronic, community-dwelling stroke survivors, we conducted a mixed-methods study consisting of a quantitative online survey (n = 63) and follow-up focus groups with a subset of participants (n = 7). Perceived performance, assistance required, adaptive equipment and compensatory strategies used, and sources of education and training were examined. Results demonstrated (1) diminished post-stroke performance for most dietary behaviors (e.g., grocery shopping, meal preparation), (2) an increased desire to eat healthily to prevent recurrent stroke, (3) variable use of adaptive equipment and compensatory strategies, and (4) limited healthcare-based dietary behavior education and training. These results suggest that stroke survivors could benefit from increased dietary behavior intervention to improve dietary behavior performance. Findings can be used to guide clinical intervention and design future research studies.

Abstract
Research related to human-animal engagement often fails to address the complexity and nuance present in occupations and occupational therapy services that incorporate animals. The goal of this research was to develop a basic understanding of multispecies occupations (MSO) involving humans and equines, focusing on the action-oriented processes and transactions during socialization in outdoor, non-therapeutic contexts. We employed a multi-modal qualitative design with interviews and videography with n = 6 horse-human dyads, creating opportunities to understand and represent engagement beyond anthropocentric norms. Findings included a variety of dyad-specific features of occupation, including processes of embodied communication, the presence of behavioral synchrony, and perceptions of attunement arising from these processes. Examining MSO via a multi-modal inquiry offers new perspectives about the nature and experience of such occupations and supports a deeper understanding of potential mechanisms of change when animals are incorporated in occupational therapy interventions and practice.

Abstract
The purpose of this secondary qualitative analysis was to explore the play interactions of children with autism (n = 10) and their pets in the home environment. Researchers coded 115 minutes of video of children playing with their pets at home and transcripts from eight caregiver interviews. Thematic analysis revealed six codes which represented three themes, including children with ASD play with pets in a variety of ways, playing with pets supports child development, and playing with pets yields benefits for children with ASD. Findings suggest playing with pets may be beneficial for developing responsibility and social skills of children with ASD, particularly in how they interact with animals. Future research should examine perspectives of families who do not own or who have relinquished pets and perspectives of adults with ASD to better understand positive and negative aspects of pet play.

Abstract
This scoping review was designed to determine which adults receive preventative health interventions, the types of interventions for modifiable risk factors, the health professionals, including occupational therapy practitioners providing these interventions, and where they are delivered to adults in the community. The databases searched were PubMed, Ageline, and CINAHL and included research meeting the inclusion criteria and published between 2016-2021. All included studies addressed health prevention. 5,399 articles were screened with 83 of these included in the final review. Older adults, White and Black individuals, and females were the most prevalent individuals and groups to receive health prevention interventions and occupational therapy professionals were involved in 5% of the reviewed studies. As there is a need for preventative health interventions to help reduce negative health outcomes and occupational therapy professionals have important skills in health prevention this study illustrates the types of health prevention provided to adults receiving intervention in the community and points to areas of opportunity for occupational therapy professionals.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of upper extremity orthoses on improving performance skills and performance of occupations after stroke. Databases searched included CINAHL, PubMed, and OT Seeker. Articles were included if published between 2012 to 2022, English, peer-reviewed, level of evidence IB, IIB, or IIIB, and included upper extremity orthoses, adults after a stroke, and performance skill and performance of occupation outcome measures; six studies meet inclusion criteria. Moderate strength of evidence supports the usage of dynamic upper extremity orthoses to improve performance skills, although they do not improve performance of occupations for adults after stroke. Evidence suggests practitioners should utilize dynamic orthoses concurrently with tasks that promote performance skills such as gripping, pinching, grasping, and reaching during interventions to promote upper extremity use after stroke. Additional research is needed to further justify the use of upper extremity orthoses for performance of occupations after stroke.

Abstract
Occupational therapy practitioners are uniquely positioned to address the needs of cancer survivors. This study aimed to understand the complex needs of survivors using The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure and in-depth interviewing. A convergent, mixed methods approach was utilized with a purposive sample of 30 cancer survivors. The results indicate that while the COPM can be a practical tool to address basic occupational performance problems, the in-depth interviews exposed these challenges are intricately connected to identity, relationships, and roles. Implications for occupational therapy practitioners include a critical approach to evaluation and interventions to capture the complex needs of survivors.

Abstract
Following a lecture on sexual health and function, occupational therapy students were surveyed regarding their past sex education and their comfort level with the topic of sex. Students indicated a lack of sexual education received from parents/guardians and a prevalence of fear-based education from formal or informal sources. Results reflected a significant increase in students' perceived comfort level with the topic following the lecture from a provider trained and certified in sexual health. As sexuality falls within the domain of occupational therapy, these results suggest a need for comprehensive sex education taught to students by qualified instructors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Older adults living with dementia in residential aged care homes receive physical care but may have limited access to meaningful engagement. Due to its multimodal and versatile nature, virtual reality (VR) is speculated to be an effective means of meaningfully engaging residents individually and/or in groups. However, there is little evidence regarding its efficacy as a means of meaningfully engaging older adults living with dementia. The objective of this scoping review is to identify and synthesise published research investigating the use of VR technology in promoting the meaningful engagement of older adults living with dementia in residential aged care facilities. METHODS A scoping review following Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) established process was conducted and included identifying and selecting relevant studies from seven databases (i.e., AgeLine, CINAHL, Medline, Cochrane, Embase, PsycINFO and Scopus), data charting, and collating, summarising and reporting findings. Two independent reviewers used Covidence and Excel to support data extraction and analysis. RESULTS The 20 eligible studies revealed discrepancies in the classification of VR and strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated with its implementation. Findings indicate that the most influential factor in eliciting meaningful engagement is when VR use facilitates interpersonal interactions and opportunities for human connection. CONCLUSION Although VR seems to be a promising medium in engaging older adults living with dementia, the efficacy of implementing VR technology within care facilities should be considered alongside potential environmental enablers and barriers. The apparent strength of implementing VR as a means of encouraging restoration, pleasure and productivity in older adults living with dementia lies in the fact that it creates opportunities for meaningful engagement on social and occupational levels.

Abstract
The aim of this scoping review was to review and assess recent studies on the efficacy of home-based occupational therapy interventions for adults post-stroke. The number of efficacy studies is limited. The few studies available suggest that occupational therapy delivered in home settings may improve outcomes for stroke patients. There is also limited use of occupation-based assessments, interventions, and outcome measures in studies addressing home-based occupational therapy. Methodologies should be improved to include contexts, caregiver training, and self-efficacy. Further high-quality studies are needed on the efficacy home-based occupational therapy services.
