Abstract
AIMS This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of two phages [VB_VaC_TDDLMA (phage TDD) and VB_VaC_SRILMA (phage SRI)] alone and in a cocktail to control Vibrio alginolyticus in brine shrimp before their administration in larviculture. METHODS AND RESULTS Phages were isolated from seawater samples and characterized by host spectrum, growth parameters, adsorption rate, genomic analysis and inactivation efficiency. Both phages belong to the Caudoviricetes class and lack known virulence or antibiotic-resistance genes. They exhibit specificity, infecting only their host, V. alginolyticus CECT 521. Preliminary experiments in a culture medium showed that phage TDD (reduction of 5.8 log CFUml-1 after 10 h) outperformed phage SRI (reduction of 4.6 log CFUml-1 after 6 h) and the cocktail TDD/SRI (reduction of 5.2 log CFUml-1 after 8 h). In artificial marine water experiments with Artemia franciscana, both single phage suspensions and the phage cocktail, effectively inactivated V. alginolyticus in culture water (reduction of 4.3, 2.1 and 1.9 log CFUml-1 for phages TDD, SRI and the phage cocktail, respectively, after 12 h) and in A. franciscana (reduction of 51.6, 87.3 and 85.3% for phages TDD, SRI and the phage cocktail, respectively, after 24 h). The two phages and the phage cocktail did not affect A. franciscana natural microbiota or other Vibrio species in the brine shrimp. CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that phages can safely and effectively control V. alginolyticus in A. franciscana prior to its administration in larviculture.

Abstract
The baobab tree (Adansonia digitata) can be found in sub-Saharan Africa, and its fruit presents high nutritional value. However, baobab seeds are often discarded and their potential remains underutilized. This study aimed to investigate the effect of roasting time (30/55/80/105 min at 200 °C) on the physical-chemical properties of baobab seeds and the bioactive compounds in a coffee-like beverage. The results showed a decrease in moisture, Aw (water activity), and hardness of baobab seeds with increasing roasting time. These changes resulted from moisture loss, caramelization, and Maillard reactions, which also affected appearance when compared with unroasted baobab seeds. The pH of the beverage decreased to a value of around 6.01 after 105 min of roasting. The total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the beverage increased with roasting time, reaching 851.2 mg GAE/100 g (after 80 min) and 18.9 mmol Fe2+/100 g (after 55 min), respectively. The caffeine content remained stable around 16 mg/100 g from 55 to 105 min, lower than that of unroasted coffee beans and decaffeinated coffee. These findings suggest the potential for valorizing baobab seeds in the development of a new coffee-like beverage with lower caffeine content.

Abstract
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae can lead to severe clinical complications and even death. An alternative treatment option for infected patients is using bacteriophages. In the present study, we isolated phage VB_KPM_KP1LMA (KP1LMA) from sewage water using a K. pneumoniae strain as a host. Whole-genome analysis indicated that the genome was a double-stranded linear 176,096-bp long DNA molecule with 41.8% GC content and did not contain virulence or antibiotic resistance genes. The inactivation potential of phage KP1LMA was assessed in broth at an MOI of 1 and 10, and a maximum inactivation of 4.9 and 5.4 log CFU/mL, respectively, was observed after 9 h. The efficacy at an MOI of 10 was also assessed in urine to evaluate the phage's performance in an acidic environment. A maximum inactivation of 3.8 log CFU/mL was observed after 9 h. The results suggest that phage KP1LMA could potentially control a UTI caused by this strain of K. pneumoniae, indicating that the same procedure can be used to control UTIs caused by other strains if new specific phages are isolated. Although phage KP1LMA has a narrow host range, in the future, efforts can be made to expand its spectrum of activity and also to combine this phage with others, potentially enabling its use against other K. pneumoniae strains involved in UTIs.

Abstract
The bacterial adhesion to food processing surfaces is a threat to human health, as these surfaces can serve as reservoirs of pathogenic bacteria. Escherichia coli is an easily biofilm-forming bacterium involved in surface contamination that can lead to the cross-contamination of food. Despite the application of disinfection protocols, contamination through food processing surfaces continues to occur. Hence, new, effective, and sustainable alternative approaches are needed. Bacteriophages (or simply phages), viruses that only infect bacteria, have proven to be effective in reducing biofilms. Here, phage phT4A was applied to prevent and reduce E. coli biofilm on plastic and stainless steel surfaces at 25 °C. The biofilm formation capacity of phage-resistant and sensitive bacteria, after treatment, was also evaluated. The inactivation effectiveness of phage phT4A was surface-dependent, showing higher inactivation on plastic surfaces. Maximum reductions in E. coli biofilm of 5.5 and 4.0 log colony-forming units (CFU)/cm2 after 6 h of incubation on plastic and stainless steel, respectively, were observed. In the prevention assays, phage prevented biofilm formation in 3.2 log CFU/cm2 after 12 h. Although the emergence of phage-resistant bacteria has been observed during phage treatment, phage-resistant bacteria had a lower biofilm formation capacity compared to phage-sensitive bacteria. Overall, the results suggest that phages may have applicability as surface disinfectants against pathogenic bacteria, but further studies are needed to validate these findings using phT4A under different environmental conditions and on different materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The FLASH effect has been validated in different preclinical experiments with electrons (eFLASH) and protons (pFLASH) operating at an average dose rate above 40 Gy/s. However, no systematic intercomparison of the FLASH effect produced by eFLASHvs. pFLASH has yet been performed and constitutes the aim of the present study. MATERIALS AND METHODS The electron eRT6/Oriatron/CHUV/5.5 MeV and proton Gantry1/PSI/170 MeV were used to deliver conventional (0.1 Gy/s eCONV and pCONV) and FLASH (≥110 Gy/s eFLASH and pFLASH) dose rates. Protons were delivered in transmission. Dosimetric and biologic intercomparisons were performed using previously validated dosimetric approaches and experimental murine models. RESULTS The difference between the average absorbed dose measured at Gantry 1 with PSI reference dosimeters and with CHUV/IRA dosimeters was -1.9 % (0.1 Gy/s) and + 2.5 % (110 Gy/s). The neurocognitive capacity of eFLASH and pFLASH irradiated mice was indistinguishable from the control, while both eCONV and pCONV irradiated cohorts showed cognitive decrements. Complete tumor response was obtained after an ablative dose of 20 Gy delivered with the two beams at CONV and FLASH dose rates. Tumor rejection upon rechallenge indicates that anti-tumor immunity was activated independently of the beam-type and the dose-rate. CONCLUSION Despite major differences in the temporal microstructure of proton and electron beams, this study shows that dosimetric standards can be established. Normal brain protection and tumor control were produced by the two beams. More specifically, normal brain protection was achieved when a single dose of 10 Gy was delivered in 90 ms or less, suggesting that the most important physical parameter driving the FLASH sparing effect might be the mean dose rate. In addition, a systemic anti-tumor immunological memory response was observed in mice exposed to high ablative dose of electron and proton delivered at CONV and FLASH dose rate.

Abstract
Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a critical global health issue and the development of alternatives to conventional antibiotics is of the upmost relevance. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is considered a promising and innovative approach for the photoinactivation of microorganisms, particularly in cases where traditional antibiotics may be less effective due to resistance or other limitations. In this study, two β-modified monocharged porphyrin-imidazolium derivatives were efficiently incorporated into polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) formulations and supported into graphitic carbon nitride materials. Both porphyrin-imidazolium derivatives displayed remarkable photostability and the ability to generate cytotoxic singlet oxygen. These properties, which have an important impact on achieving an efficient photodynamic effect, were not compromised after incorporation/immobilization. The prepared PVP-porphyrin formulations and the graphitic carbon nitride-based materials displayed excellent performance as photosensitizers to photoinactivate methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (99.9999% of bacteria) throughout the antimicrobial photodynamic therapy. In each matrix, the most rapid action against S. aureus was observed when using PS 2. The PVP-2 formulation needed 10 min of exposure to white light at 5.0 µm, while the graphitic carbon nitride hybrid GCNM-2 required 20 min at 25.0 µm to achieve a similar level of response. These findings suggest the potential of graphitic carbon nitride-porphyrinic hybrids to be used in the environmental or clinical fields, avoiding the use of organic solvents, and might allow for their recovery after treatment, improving their applicability for bacteria photoinactivation.

Abstract
Rapid, effective, and specific identification of clinical and environmental bacterial pathogens is of major importance for their control. Traditionally, bacteria have been identified by phenotypic methods based on morphological, biochemical, and metabolic properties. While these methods are very useful in clinical practice, they have limitations including a poor ability to differentiate within and between species and time-consuming workflows. Newly developed molecular methods can greatly improve the accuracy of taxonomic characterization, identifying specific strains of medical or environmental importance. However, due to high costs and the need for trained professionals, these methods are not yet routine in diagnostic laboratories. Thus, disseminating knowledge on advances in molecular identification techniques is pivotal to make these methodologies accessible. The objective of this work was to review and discuss current molecular techniques for bacteria identification aiming to track and monitor microbial agents in clinical and environmental samples.

Abstract
Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is a potent tool to surpass the global rise of antimicrobial resistance; still, the effective topical administration of photosensitizers remains a challenge. Biopolymer-based adhesive films can safely extend the residence time of photosensitizers. However, their wide application is narrowed by their limited water absorption capacity and gel strength. In this study, pullulan-based films with a switchable character (from a solid film to an adhesive hydrogel) were developed. This was accomplished by the incorporation of a betaine-based deep eutectic solvent (DES) containing curcumin (4.4 μg.cm-2) into the pullulan films, which tuned the films' skin moisture absorption ability, and therefore they switch into an adhesive hydrogel capable of delivering the photosensitizer. The obtained transparent films presented higher extensibility (elongation at break up to 338.2%) than the pullulan counterparts (6.08%), when stored at 54% of relative humidity, and the corresponding hydrogels a 4-fold higher adhesiveness than commercial hydrogels. These non-cytotoxic adhesives allowed the inactivation (∼5 log reduction), down to the detection limit of the method, of multiresistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus in ex vivo skin samples. Overall, these materials are promising for aPDT in the treatment of resistant skin infections, while being easily removed from the skin.

Abstract
Burns in the elderly are a public health concern. This study aimed to analyze etiology, clinical characteristics, and independent risk factors for outcomes of burns in elderly patients. This retrospective study included elderly patients (65 years and over) admitted to a major burn unit between 2006 and 2016. Demographic data, clinical characteristics and outcomes were analyzed. One hundred and thirty patients were included. Most were female (56.2%) and the highest incidence was among those aged 75-84 years. The median burn area was 10.5%. The incidence in winter (50%) was higher (p<0.001) and flame burns predominated (p<0.001). The mortality rate was 32.3%. Independent risk factors for death were older age, larger extent burns, need for escharotomy, and cardiac disease as comorbidity. Amongst the survivors, the median length of stay was 36 days. Development of pressure sores, need for skin grafts, larger extent burns, presence of full-thickness burns, and cardiac disease were shown to be significantly associated with increased length of stay amongst survivors. Preventive measures should target women aged between 75-84 years. Flame burns occurred more frequently in winter. Prognosis is related to age, extent of burns, need for escharotomy at admission, and cardiac disease.

Abstract
Starch is a biodegradable and biocompatible carbohydrate that, when combined with bioactive molecules, can be processed as biomimetic platforms with enhanced performance, allowing its use as active wound dressing materials. Porphyrinoid photosensitizers can tune the physicochemical/functional profile of biomacromolecules, allowing their use in anti-infective strategies. In this work, the feasibility of using the cationic 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(1-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphyrin tetraiodide (TMPyP) to enhance the physicochemical, mechanical, antimicrobial performance, and wound healing ability of casted starch-based films was studied. TMPyP conferred a reddish coloration to the films, maintaining their pristine transparency. It increased by 87 % the films hydrophobicity and, depending on the TMPyP used, conferred mobility to the starch polymeric chains. Starch/TMPyP-based films effectively photoinactivated Escherichia coli (>99.99 %) and favored the wound healing process, even in the absence of light. Therefore, the incorporation of TMPyP into starch-based formulations revealed to be a promising strategy to tune the films compaction degree while giving rise to water tolerant and photosensitive biomaterials that can act as multitarget antimicrobial medical dressings and glycocarriers of active compounds relevant for effective skin wound healing.

Abstract
The circularity of wastewater treatment subproducts is on the worldwide agenda. In this way, this work aims to evaluate alternatives for the reuse of sludge from slaughterhouse wastewater treatment. Wetted sludges produced in the immediate one-step lime precipitation process were applied directly or first calcined, as a coagulant or coagulant aid, in the absence or presence of Ca(OH)2, to slaughterhouse wastewaters with different characteristics. For the best sludge reuse, successive reuses of the sludge were carried out and the characteristics of treated slaughterhouse wastewater were evaluated after each reuse. Results showed a great similarity between slaughterhouse and treated slaughterhouse wastewaters using wetted and calcined sludges as a coagulant for highly contaminated slaughterhouse wastewater. In addition, a great similarity was also observed between the calcined and the wetted sludges, both as a coagulant aid, for all the slaughterhouse wastewaters tested. However, the latter consumed more hydrated lime, more volume of sludge sedimented, and higher concentrations phosphorus and organic matter in the treated wastewater. Calcined sludge as a coagulant aid guaranteed the best slaughterhouse wastewater quality for almost of the tested paramenters (≥94% for absorbances at 254 nm and 410 nm, E. coli, turbidity, and phosphorus, chemical oxygen demand between 3 and 91%, and total Kjeldahl nitrogen between 3 and 62%) independently of the wastewater characteristics. Calcined sludge as a coagulant aid can be three times reused for the tested parameters and slaughterhouse wastewater characteristics without significantly decreasing the quality. The successive sludge reused saves the hydrated lime dose applied (up to 28.4%) and the sedimented sludge volume (up to 24.7%), and can be a solution to stabilize sludge due to the pH increase (sludge pH = 12).

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Tobacco companies have introduced heated tobacco product (HTP) in many countries and marketed it on the grounds that it is a less harmful alternative to health. However, tobacco companies have been widely criticized for taking advantage of a loophole that allows electronic devices to circumvent regulations limiting tobacco advertising. This work aims to determine whether HTPs respected the rules that regulate tobacco advertising when it was introduced in Spain. STUDY DESIGN This is an observational epidemiological study. METHODS Using monthly time series data from September 2016 to June 2020, we analyzed whether the adoption of HTPs has followed the same behavior patterns as other brands that were introduced under the same conditions of use. The Bass model is used to analyze the diffusion of HTPs, and 30 other traditional cigarette brands introduced under the same conditions as this HTPs. RESULTS The adoption of HTPs in Spain has been like that of brands of slim cigarettes that are mistakenly considered to be healthier than traditional cigarettes. The results indicate that the use of HTPs has spread in the same way as additive-free and ultra-slim cigarette brands. CONCLUSIONS Policymakers should keep in mind that laws should restrict any marketing of tobacco products that promotes positive connotations between tobacco use and being healthy. If manufacturers are allowed to classify a category and/or brand of tobacco products as less harmful to health, the imitation effect is very high, leading to the proliferation of smoking.

Abstract
Background and purpose The FLASH effect has been validated in different preclinical experiments with electrons (eFLASH) and protons (pFLASH) operating at a mean dose rate above 40 Gy/s. However, no systematic intercomparison of the FLASH effect produced by e vs. pFLASH has yet been performed and constitutes the aim of the present study. Materials and methods The electron eRT6/Oriatron/CHUV/5.5 MeV and proton Gantry1/PSI/170 MeV were used to deliver conventional (0.1 Gy/s eCONV and pCONV) and FLASH (≥100 Gy/s eFLASH and pFLASH) irradiation. Protons were delivered in transmission. Dosimetric and biologic intercomparisons were performed with previously validated models. Results Doses measured at Gantry1 were in agreement (± 2.5%) with reference dosimeters calibrated at CHUV/IRA. The neurocognitive capacity of e and pFLASH irradiated mice was indistinguishable from the control while both e and pCONV irradiated cohorts showed cognitive decrements. Complete tumor response was obtained with the two beams and was similar between e and pFLASH vs. e and pCONV. Tumor rejection was similar indicating that T-cell memory response is beam-type and dose-rate independent. Conclusion Despite major differences in the temporal microstructure, this study shows that dosimetric standards can be established. The sparing of brain function and tumor control produced by the two beams were similar, suggesting that the most important physical parameter driving the FLASH effect is the overall time of exposure which should be in the range of hundreds of milliseconds for WBI in mice. In addition, we observed that immunological memory response is similar between electron and proton beams and is independent off the dose rate.

Abstract
Sulfonamides are a conventional class of antibiotics that are well-suited to combat infections. However, their overuse leads to antimicrobial resistance. Porphyrins and analogs have demonstrated excellent photosensitizing properties and have been used as antimicrobial agents to photoinactivate microorganisms, including multiresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. It is well recognized that the combination of different therapeutic agents might improve the biological outcome. In this present work, a novel meso-arylporphyrin and its Zn(II) complex functionalized with sulfonamide groups were synthesized and characterized and the antibacterial activity towards MRSA with and without the presence of the adjuvant KI was evaluated. For comparison, the studies were also extended to the corresponding sulfonated porphyrin TPP(SO3H)4. Photodynamic studies revealed that all porphyrin derivatives were effective in photoinactivating MRSA (>99.9% of reduction) at a concentration of 5.0 μM upon white light radiation with an irradiance of 25 mW cm-2 and a total light dose of 15 J cm-2. The combination of the porphyrin photosensitizers with the co-adjuvant KI during the photodynamic treatment proved to be very promising allowing a significant reduction in the treatment time and photosensitizer concentration by six times and at least five times, respectively. The combined effect observed for TPP(SO2NHEt)4 and ZnTPP(SO2NHEt)4 with KI seems to be due to the formation of reactive iodine radicals. In the photodynamic studies with TPP(SO3H)4 plus KI, the cooperative action was mainly due to the formation of free iodine (I2).

Abstract
Wastewater (WW) insufficiently treated for the disinfection of microorganisms, including pathogenic ones, is a source of concern and a possible generator of public health problems. Traditional disinfection methods to reduce pathogens concentration (e.g., chlorination, ozonation, UV) are expensive, unsafe, and/or sometimes ineffective, highlighting the need for new disinfection technologies. The promising results of photodynamic inactivation (PDI) treatment to eradicate microorganisms suggest the efficacy of this treatment to improve WW quality. This work aimed to assess if PDI can be successfully extended to real contexts for the microbial inactivation in WW. For the first time, PDI experiments with 9 different water matrices compositions were performed to inquire about the influence of some of their physicochemical parameters on the effectiveness of microbial inactivation. Bacterial photoinactivation was tested in freshwater, aquaculture water, and seawater samples, as well as in influents and effluents samples from domestic, industrial, and a mixture of industrial and domestic WW receiving wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Additionally, PDI assays were performed in phosphate-buffered saline isotonic solution (PBS), used as an aqueous comparative matrix. To relate the PDI disinfection efficiency with the physicochemical compositions of the different used water matrices, a series of statistical analysis were performed, in order to support our main conclusions. Overall, the results showed that PDI is an effective and promising alternative to traditionally used WW disinfection methods, with a bacterial reduction of >3.0 log CFU/mL in all the water matrices within the first hour of PDI treatment, but also that the physicochemical composition of the aqueous matrices to be PDI-disinfected must be taken into account since they seem to influence the PDI efficacy, namely the pH, with acidic pH conditions seeming to be associated to a better PDI performance in general.

Abstract
Cellulose is the most abundant natural biopolymer and owing to its compatibility with biological tissues, it is considered a versatile starting material for developing new and sustainable materials from renewable resources. With the advent of drug-resistance among pathogenic microorganisms, recent strategies have focused on the development of novel treatment options and alternative antimicrobial therapies, such as antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). This approach encompasses the combination of photoactive dyes and harmless visible light, in the presence of dioxygen, to produce reactive oxygen species that can selectively kill microorganisms. Photosensitizers for aPDT can be adsorbed, entrapped, or linked to cellulose-like supports, providing an increase in the surface area, with improved mechanical strength, barrier, and antimicrobial properties, paving the way to new applications, such as wound disinfection, sterilization of medical materials and surfaces in different contexts (industrial, household and hospital), or prevention of microbial contamination in packaged food. This review will report the development of porphyrinic photosensitizers supported on cellulose/cellulose derivative materials to achieve effective photoinactivation. A brief overview of the efficiency of cellulose based photoactive dyes for cancer, using photodynamic therapy (PDT), will be also discussed. Particular attention will be devoted to the synthetic routes behind the preparation of the photosensitizer-cellulose functional materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease with complex disease etiology and pathological processes. These include formation of plaques and tangles, aberrant lipid processing, neuroinflammation, cerebrovascular dysregulation, ion channel and mitochondrial dysfunction, and oxidative stress. Disease-modifying therapies focusing on all these different facets are needed. TW001 is an oral formulation with the radical scavenger edaravone as its active ingredient, targeting oxidative stress. OBJECTIVES This manuscript describes the trial design for Phase IIA Alzheimer Study Using oRal Edaravone (ASURE). METHODS ASURE is a randomized, placebo-controlled, proof-of-concept study aiming to evaluate safety and target engagement following administration of TW001 in early AD patients. Patients should have a biomarker confirmed diagnosis to be included in the trial and will be treated for 90 days. The primary endpoints include safety and effect of TW001 on oxidative stress biomarkers. Exploratory endpoints focus on a panel of AD(-related) fluid-based biomarkers and EEG. In addition, a recently developed cognitive functional composite (CFC) score will measure early signs of cognitive and functional effects of TW001. RESULTS This article outlines the design of the clinical study, no results are included. CONCLUSIONS The ASURE trial design is discussed, with a particular focus on fluid biomarkers, EEG, and CFC as endpoints. By testing multiple measures related to pathology, pharmacodynamics, EEG as proxy for cognition, and cognitive functional scores, it is expected that small changes will be detectable in trials of shorter duration. Moreover, the wide range of endpoints allows to make well-informed decisions for designing pivotal studies later.

Abstract
The high pollutant load of sanitary landfill leachates poses a huge challenge in the search for efficient and environment friendly solutions for their treatment. The objective of this work was to study an integrated solution of environmentally friendly technologies - immediate one-step lime precipitation (IOSLP), carbonation (CB), and phytoremediation (Phyt) - to treat a sanitary landfill leachate. In the leachate sample treatment by IOSLP, the influence of CaO concentration (18.2-33.3 gCaO L-1) and stirring time (2-60 min) on the sludge sedimentability and pollutant removal was studied. Organic load and ammonia nitrogen (AN) removal increases with CaO added, as well as sludge volume. Stirring time has a small influence on organic load and AN removal, presenting a minimum for sludge volume. Thus, the best operational conditions were chosen as 27.6 gCaO L-1, and 40-min stirring time, with 64% chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal. Sludge humidity was 2.1%, making dewatering needless. IOSLP supernatant was submitted to CB by atmospheric CO2, and 100% removals in AN and hardness were attained. Effluents from IOSLP and IOSLP + CB were utilized in Phyt tests, with Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty). The best COD removal (37%) during Phyt was attained for the samples treated by IOSLP + CB.

Abstract
Background
Despite recent advances, surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) remains the gold standard for most of the patients with aortic valve stenosis. The ageing population, with increased comorbidities and the rising of minimally invasive techniques, led to the development of new prosthetic devices of easier and faster implantation.
Purpose
This study aimed to analyse short and long-term outcomes of SAVR with rapid-deployment (RD) aortic bioprosthesis for isolated aortic valve stenosis
Method
Singe center, retrospective longitudinal cohort study of patients with isolated aortic valve stenosis who underwent elective aortic valve replacement using RD devices between 2014 and December 2021.
Continuous variables are presented with median (IQR) and were analyzed using Mann-Whitney test. Categorical variables are presented in percentage or frequency and were analyzed using chi-square test. Kaplan-Meyer survival curve was constructed base on collected data from national registry.
Results
A RD device was implanted in 358 patients with a median age of 75,8 years and Euroscore II of 2,3. Median cross clamp and extracorporeal circulation time were 27,4 and 36,7 min, respectively. No significant paravalvular leaks.
Intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay was 3 days with acute renal lesion (any stage-53,2%; Dialysis-2,5%), need for hemodynamic support (63,1%) and new onset atrial fibrillation (33,6%) being the most frequent post-operative complications. Stroke occurred in 0,6% of cases and mortality was 1,1%. Pacemaker implementation rate of 11%.
The mean follow-up time was 6,7 years with 90% 5-years survival rate. Mean gradients of 11,2±4,8 mmHg at 6 months
Conclusion
Surgical treatment of aortic valve stenosis using RD devices is safe, with a low mortality rate. ICU length of stay and hospital length of stay are reduced. Follow-up shows an excellent long-term survival and hemodynamic performance.

Abstract
PURPOSE After a recommendation for iodine supplementation in pregnancy has been issued in 2013 in Portugal, there were no studies covering iodine status in pregnancy in the country. The aim of this study was to assess iodine status in pregnant women in Porto region and its association with iodine supplementation. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted at Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João, Porto, from April 2018 to April 2019. Pregnant women attending the 1st trimester ultrasound scan were invited to participate. Exclusion criteria were levothyroxine use, gestational age < 10 and ≥ 14 weeks, non-evolutive pregnancy at recruitment and non-signing of informed consent. Urinary iodine concentration (UIC) was measured in random spot urine by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. RESULTS Median UIC was 104 μg/L (IQR 62-189) in the overall population (n = 481) of which 19% had UIC < 50 µg/L. Forty three percent (n = 206) were not taking an iodine-containing supplement (ICS) and median UIC values were 146 µg/L (IQR 81-260) and 74 µg/L (IQR 42-113) in ICS users and non-users, respectively (p < 0.001). Not using an ICS was an independent risk factor for iodine insufficiency [adjusted OR (95% CI) = 6.00 (2.74, 13.16); p < 0.001]. Iodised salt use was associated with increased median iodine-to-creatinine ratio (p < 0.014). CONCLUSIONS A low compliance to iodine supplementation recommendation in pregnancy accounted for a mild-to-moderately iodine deficiency. Our results evidence the need to support iodine supplementation among pregnant women in countries with low household coverage of iodised salt. Abstract
The photodynamic inactivation (PDI) of microorganisms has gained interest as an efficient option for conventional antibiotic treatments. Recently, Si(IV) phthalocyanines (SiPcs) have been highlighted as promising photosensitizers (PSs) to the PDI of microorganisms due to their remarkable absorption and emission features. To increase the potential of cationic SiPcs as PS drugs, one novel (1a) and two previously described (2a and 3a) axially substituted PSs with di-, tetra-, and hexa-ammonium units, respectively, were synthesized and characterized. Their PDI effect was evaluated for the first time against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram-negative and a Gram-positive bacterium, respectively. The photodynamic treatments were conducted with PS concentrations of 3.0 and 6.0 μM under 60 min of white light irradiation (150 mW.cm-2). The biological results show high photodynamic efficiency for di- and tetra-cationic PSs 1a and 2a (6.0 μM), reducing the E. coli viability in 5.2 and 3.9 log, respectively (after 15 min of dark incubation before irradiation). For PS 3a, a similar bacterial reduction (3.6 log) was achieved but only with an extended dark incubation period (30 min). Under the same experimental conditions, the photodynamic effect of cationic PSs 1a-3a on S. aureus was even more promising, with abundance reductions of ca. 8.0 log after 45-60 min of PDI treatment. These results reveal the high PDI efficiency of PSs bearing ammonium groups and suggest their promising application as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial to control infections caused by Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.

Abstract
The small molecule 3-bromopyruvate (3BP), is an anticancer molecule that acts by hindering glycolysis and mitochondrial function leading to energy depletion and consequently, to cell death. In this work we have focused on understanding how the glycolytic inhibition affects cancer cell structural features. We showed that 3BP leads to a drastic decrease in the levels of β-actin and α-tubulin followed by disorganization and shrinkage of the cytoskeleton in breast cancer cells. 3BP inhibits cell migration and colony formation independently of the activity of metalloproteinases. To disclose if these structural alterations occurred prior to 3BP toxic effect, non-toxic concentrations of 3BP were used and we could observe that 3BP was able to inhibit energy production and induce loss of β-actin and α-tubulin proteins. This was accompanied with alterations in cytoskeleton organization and an increase in E-cadherin levels which may indicate a decrease in cancer cells aggressiveness. In this study we demonstrate that 3BP glycolytic inhibition of breast cancer cells is accompanied by cytoskeleton disruption and consequently loss of migration ability, suggesting that 3BP can potentially be explored for metastatic breast cancer therapy.

Abstract
We investigate the interplay of magnetization and lattice vibrations in rare-earth orthoferrites RFeO3, with a specific focus on non-symmetry-breaking anomalies. To do so, we study the magnetization, magnon excitations and lattice dynamics as a function of temperature in NdFeO3, TbFeO3, EuFeO3 and GdFeO3. The magnetization shows distinct temperature anomalous behavior for all investigated rare-earth orthoferrites, even in the compounds with no phase transitions occurring at those temperatures. Through spin-phonon coupling, these magnetic changes are mirrored by the FeO6 rotation mode for all the studied RFeO3, revealing a common magnetostructural effect associated with the octahedra rotations. The R3+ oscillation modes evidence a Fe3+/R3+ spins cross-talk for the NdFeO3 and TbFeO3 cases. Our work sheds light into the common magnetostructural coupling in rare-earth orthoferrites, and the important role of magnetic anisotropy and spin-orbit coupling strength of the R-Fe interactions on the spin-reorientation transition at high temperatures.

Abstract
Corroles possess key photophysical and photochemical properties to be exploited as therapeutic agents in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). Herein, we present for the first time the antimicrobial efficiency of three corrole dimers and of the corresponding precursor against the Gram(+) bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Additionally, to explore future clinical applications, the cytotoxicity of the most promising derivatives towards Vero cells was evaluated. The aPDT assays performed under white light irradiation (50 mW/cm2; light dose 450 J/cm2) and at a corrole concentration of 15 µM showed that some dimers were able to reduce 99.9999% of S. aureus strain (decrease of 5 log10 CFU/mL) and their photodynamic efficiency was dependent on position, type of linkage, and aggregation behavior. Under the same light conditions, the corrole precursor 1 demonstrated notable photodynamic efficiency, achieving total photoinactivation (>8.0 log10 CFU/mL reduction) after the same period of irradiation (light dose 450 J/cm2). No cytotoxicity was observed when Vero cells were exposed to corrole 1 and dimer 3 for 24 h according to ISO guidelines (ISO 10993-5) for in vitro cytotoxicity of medical devices. The results show that corrole dimers, dependent on their structures, can be considered good photosensitizers to kill Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common infectious diseases at the community level. The continue misuse of antimicrobials is leading to an increase in bacterial resistance, which is a worldwide problem. The objective of this work was to study the incidence and pattern of antimicrobial resistance of the main bacteria responsible for UTI in the community of central and northern Portugal, and establish an appropriate empirical treatment. The urine samples were collected in Avelab—Laboratório Médico de Análises Clínicas over a period of 5 years (2015−2019). The urine cultures were classified as positive when bacterial growth was equal to or higher than 105 CFU/mL, and only for these cases, an antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed. Of the 106,019 samples analyzed, 15,439 had a urinary infection. Urinary infections were more frequent in females (79.6%) than in males (20.4%), affecting more elderly patients (56.9%). Escherichia coli (70.1%) was the most frequent uropathogen, followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (8.9%). The bacteria responsible for UTI varied according to the patient’s sex, with the greatest differences being observed for Enterococcus faecalis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, these being more prevalent in men. In general, there was a growth in bacterial resistance as the age of the patients increased. The resistance of bacteria in male patients was, in most cases, statistically different (Chi-Square test, p < 0.05) from that observed for bacteria isolated from female patients, showing, in general, higher resistance in male patients. Although E. coli was the most responsible uropathogen for UTI, it was among the bacteria most susceptible to antibiotics. The isolates of K. pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris and Enterobacter showed high resistance to the tested antimicrobials. The most common multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria implicated in UTI were K. pneumoniae (40.4%) and P. aeruginosa (34.7%), but E. coli, the most responsible bacteria for UTI, showed a MDR of 23.3%. When we compared our results with the results from 10 years ago for the same region, in general, an increase in bacterial resistance was observed. The results of this study confirmed that urinary tract infections are a very common illness, caused frequently by resistant uropathogens, for which the antibiotic resistance profile has varied over a short time, even within a specific region. This indicates that periodically monitoring the microbial resistance of each region is essential in order to select the best empirical antibiotic therapy against these infections, and prevent or decrease the resistance among uropathogenic strains.

Abstract
Introduction The concept of cycloid psychosis has a long tradition in European psychiatry since it was introduced by Kleist in 1926. Nevertheless, this concept is not included explicitly in modern classifications, leading to a controversial discussion about its utility in current psychiatry. Objectives Starting from a case study, we intend to review the evolution of cycloid psychosis concept and analyze its role in modern psychiatry. Methods Non-systematic review of the literature and report of a case study. Results Following Kleist’s work, Leonhard described the three overlapping subtypes, and later Perris developed the first operational diagnostic criteria. Since then, this entity has shown a high diagnostic stability, validity and a good predictive diagnostic and prognostic value. We report a case of a 30-year-old woman, previous heathy, without regular medication, living with her parents and 5-year-old son, until she emigrated alone to Switzerland. After 10 days abroad, she was sent back to Portugal, and after organic disease and drug misuse exclusion, she was admitted in our inward with a clinical picture of perplexity, anxiety, thinking and behavioral disturbance with persecutory and poisoning delusions, auditory hallucinations, and total insomnia. Following rapid and full recovery, she was discharged 14 days later while being medicated with Paliperidone 3 mg/day and Lorazepam 4 mg/day, which was abandoned by her 2 months later, without relapse of the symptoms. Conclusions The current lack of a satisfactory system for categorizing acute, and remittent psychoses seems to be reason enough to remain awareness of this unique diagnostic entity, which is worthy of further investigation. Abstract
Introduction
Over the last decade, there has been identified that critical illness survivors have high rates of psychiatric disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The experience of admission to intensive care units (ICU) and illusory memories may cause short and long-term psychological disorders.
Objectives
To evaluate psychiatric disorders, such as PTSD, after ICU discharge, and determine the prevalence, risk factors, and prevention strategies for PTSD in these patients.
Methods
Non-systematic review through research in PubMed. Addicionally, a case report will be exposed, after the patient was diagnosed with SARS‑CoV‑2 and stayed in ICU for more than 30 days.
Results
The development of PTSD has been related to the number of adverse memories patients recall from their ICU experience. Some studies have shown that approximately 47% of patients remember real facts and 34% have illusory memories relative to their stays in the ICU. There were identified some risk factor associated to the increased risk of post-ICU PTSD, such as early post-ICU memories or psychotic experiences, pre-ICU psychopathology, benzodiazepine sedation during ICU and substantial acute stress symptoms occurring < 1 month after exposure to a traumatic stressor.
Conclusions
High levels of anxiety and the development by patients of PTSD are being recognized as significant problems occurring after a stay in an ICU. The results of this study highlight the need to recognise the risk factors and to establish a early follow-up after ICU stay. This way is possible to identify patients who are at risk of developing acute PTSD-related symptoms, and early intervention can be institued.

Abstract
Introduction Schizophrenia affects approximately 1% of the world population, having a devastating impact not only in patients but in all society. As a result, it has been subject of extensive investigation and the presence of certain genes was associated with an increased risk of developing schizophrenia. However, the presence of these genes is not sufficient, therefore, other factors are necessarily involved.Observation of the association between schizophrenia and inflammatory states of the Central Nervous System led to the hypothesis that a dysfunction of the immune system may play a central role in this process. Objectives In this work we intend to make a brief review of the existing literature related to the immunological theory of schizophrenia. Methods A bibliographic research was conducted in Medline library using the following terms: “schizophrenia and immune system”; “schizophrenia and inflammation” and “schizophrenia and neuroinflammation”. Results The survey results reveal increasing evidence of the key role of the immune system in schizophrenia. Several studies show benefits of treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs in patients at an early stage of the disease. In the same way, it was verified that pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines influence glutamatergic transmission and tryptophan metabolism. Furthermore, the decrease in microglial activity appears to have a beneficial effect on schizophrenia. Conclusions Future will say if neuroimmunology mechanisms are primary or a secondary consequence in Schizophrenia. Recent discoveries in this area are encouraging and open the possibility of new therapeutic targets and new therapeutic approaches to this disease. Disclosure No significant relationships.

Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hypertension (HTN) are closely associated with an overlapping and intermingled cause and effect relationship. Decline in renal functions are usually associated with a rise in blood pressure (BP), and prolonged elevations in BP hasten the progression of kidney function decline. Regulation of HTN by normalizing the BP in an individual, thereby slowing the progression of kidney disease and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, can be effectively achieved by the anti-hypertensive use of calcium channel blockers (CCBs). Use of dihydropyridine CCBs such as amlodipine (ALM) in patients with CKD is an attractive option not only for controlling BP but also for safely improving patient outcomes. Vast clinical experiences with its use as monotherapy and/or in combination with other anti-hypertensives in varied conditions have demonstrated its superior qualities in effectively managing HTN in patients with CKD with minimal adverse effects. In comparison to other counterparts, ALM displays robust reduction in risk of cardiovascular endpoints, particularly stroke, and in patients with renal impairment. ALM with its longer half-life displays effective BP control over 24-h, thereby reducing the progression of end-stage-renal disease. In conclusion, compared to other classes of CCBs, ALM is an attractive choice for effectively managing HTN in CKD patients and improving the overall quality of life.

Background
The investigational Extravascular Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (EV ICD) uses a substernal lead and delivers defibrillation and pacing therapies, including antitachycardia pacing (ATP).
Objective
To characterize EV ICD system performance through 3 years.
Methods
The prospective, first-in-human EV ICD Pilot study was conducted at 4 sites in Australia and New Zealand. ICD-indicated patients were enrolled July-December of 2018. Defibrillation testing was conducted for all patients at implant, and chronically per physician discretion. Electrical testing was conducted at pre-hospital discharge, 2 weeks, 4-6 weeks and 3 months post-implant, and every 6 months thereafter. Posture effects on pacing and sensing were evaluated through 3 months.
Results
Of 26 patients enrolled, 21 underwent the EV ICD implant procedure. There were no intraprocedural complications. After successful implantation and testing, 17 of 21 patients entered chronic follow-up. 14 patients continue follow up, representing 523 patient-months. Eight elective chronic defibrillation tests converted 7 of 7 patients with ≤ 40 J (maximum energy). Five episodes of spontaneous ventricular tachycardia (VT) were detected in 1 patient and either self-terminated or successfully defibrillated with appropriate shock.
Over the total course of follow-up, 3 patients received an inappropriate shock due to; lead tip displacement with subsequent P-wave oversensing; Electromagnetic interference (EMI) in a ungrounded hot-tub; and EMI while doing plumbing work on unearthed electrical pipes, resulting in an annualized inappropriate shock rate of 6.9%.
Pacing capture thresholds remained stable across time (5.1 ± 2.0 V at implant and 5.5 ± 2.7 V at 3 years); similarly, R-wave amplitudes were stable across time (3.4 ±2.0 mV at implant and 4.2 ± 2.7 mV at 3 years). Pacing thresholds tended to be lowest with the patient lying on the right side and pacing threshold often increased relative to supine position for left-side, prone or bending postures. R-wave amplitude tended to be greater when bending forward.
There were 10 system or procedure-related adverse events in 8 patients through 3 years, including 3 elective system removals for: a single inappropriate shock (1), chronic defibrillation testing showing no safety margin in a patient with arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (1), intolerance to ATP (1 - high pacing threshold and frequent VT). Other than the lead tip displacement within the first 3 months, no additional clinically significant lead displacements have been observed through 3 years.
Conclusion
The EV ICD is a novel platform for delivering high-voltage therapy. There were no procedure and system related complications observed after the first year post-implant. Lead position and chronic system performance have generally remained stable through 3 years with a low rate of adverse events.

Abstract
The last two years have been marked by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. This virus is found in the intestinal tract; it reaches wastewater systems and, consequently, the natural receiving water bodies. As such, inefficiently treated wastewater (WW) can be a means of contamination. The currently used methods for the disinfection of WW can lead to the formation of toxic compounds and can be expensive or inefficient. As such, new and alternative approaches must be considered, namely, photodynamic inactivation (PDI). In this work, the bacteriophage φ6 (or, simply, phage φ6), which has been used as a suitable model for enveloped RNA viruses, such as coronaviruses (CoVs), was used as a model of SARS-CoV-2. Firstly, to understand the virus’s survival in the environment, phage φ6 was subjected to different laboratory-controlled environmental conditions (temperature, pH, salinity, and solar and UV-B irradiation), and its persistence over time was assessed. Second, to assess the efficiency of PDI towards the virus, assays were performed in both phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), a commonly used aqueous matrix, and a secondarily treated WW (a real WW matrix). Third, as WW is generally discharged into the marine environment after treatment, the safety of PDI-treated WW was assessed through the determination of the viability of native marine water microorganisms after their contact with the PDI-treated effluent. Overall, the results showed that, when used as a surrogate for SARS-CoV-2, phage φ6 remains viable in different environmental conditions for a considerable period. Moreover, PDI proved to be an efficient approach in the inactivation of the viruses, and the PDI-treated effluent showed no toxicity to native aquatic microorganisms under realistic dilution conditions, thus endorsing PDI as an efficient and safe tertiary WW disinfection method. Although all studies were performed with phage φ6, which is considered a suitable model of SARS-CoV-2, further studies using SARS-CoV-2 are necessary; nevertheless, the findings show the potential of PDI for controlling SARS-CoV-2 in WW.

Abstract
The critical scenario of antimicrobial resistance to antibiotics highlights the need for improved therapeutics and/or formulations. Herein, we demonstrate that deep eutectic solvents (DES) formulations are very promising to remarkably improve the solubility, stability and therapeutic efficacy of antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin. DES aqueous solutions enhance the solubility of ciprofloxacin up to 430-fold while extending the antibiotic stability. The developed formulations can improve, by 2 to 4-fold, the susceptibility of Gram-negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria to the antibiotic. They also improve the therapeutic efficacy at concentrations where bacteria present resistance, without promoting tolerance development to ciprofloxacin. Furthermore, the incorporation of DES decreases the toxicity of ciprofloxacin towards immortalized human epidermal keratinocytes (HaCat cells). The results herein reveal the pioneering use of DES in fluoroquinolone-based formulations and their impact on the antibiotic's characteristics and on its therapeutic action.

Abstract
The major concern regarding the bacteriophage (or phage) therapy approach is the regrowth of bacteria after treatment, a consequence of the emergence of phage-resistant mutants. However, this limitation can be overcome by combining different therapies. In this study, the potential of combining phage phT4A with pressure storage (HS) to enhance the control of Escherichia coli and bacterial regrowth after treatment was evaluated. For that, the combining effect of phage phT4A and HS was studied and compared with storage at atmospheric pressure (AP) under refrigeration (4 °C, RF) and room temperature (RT). Initially, the effect of high hydrostatic pressure (200, 300 and 400 MPa) and HS (75 MPa), as well as refrigeration in phage phT4A viability, was determined. However, a considerable phage inactivation was verified at 200 MPa and so only HS at 75 MPa was further studied for combined treatment. The combined treatment with phage phT4A and HS was more efficient (reduction of 2.5 log CFU/mL after 7 days of storage) than phage phT4A (E. coli concentration was similar to that of the bacterial control after 7 days of storage) and HS (reduction of 1.8 log CFU/mL after 7 days of storage) applied individually. The combination of phage phT4A with refrigerated storage did not decrease E. coli levels. However, both the combination of phage with HS and the treatment with HS at 75 MPa effectively reduced E. coli concentration and prevented its regrowth. Phage phT4A viability was slightly affected during HS; however, the efficiency of the combined treatment phage-HS was not compromised. Further studies are needed to validate these findings in food products.

Introduction
The impact of acute infection by SARS-COV2 on the cardiovascular system has been previously reported in the literature, with a higher propensity in patients with more serious pattern of disease and pro-inflammatory status. Nevertheless, the long-term burden and sequels of COVID-19 on the cardiovascular system is still unknown.
Purpose
To evaluate the long-term impact of COVID-19 on left ventricular function in patients with severe clinical presentation requiring intensive care hospitalization.
Methods
This was a single-center observational, prospective study which included patients requiring admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to COVID-19 infection from January to November 2020. All discharged patients were contacted to perform a clinical, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic evaluation and those who accepted were included on the protocol. Baseline and clinical characteristics were collected from clinical reports. For the global longitudinal strain (GLS) analysis all patients with significant wall motion abnormalities and valvular cardiopathy were excluded. Statistical analysis was performed with Mann-Whitney and a safety cut-off was established with ROC curve analysis.
Results
A total of 43 patients were included (mean age 64 ± 12, 67.4% males). During SARS-COV2 infection 49% presented with severe ARDS and 51% with moderate, 35% required invasive mechanical ventilation, 14% noninvasive mechanical ventilation and 52% with high nasal flow cannula. On the follow-up analysis, fatigue was the most reported in symptom (52% patients) and the majority did not present other signs or symptoms suggestive of heart failure, with the mean NT-proBNP of 49 ± 389 pg/dL. The standard ECG and echocardiogram did not show significant changes with a mean LVEF of 58 ± 7.8 and mean TAPSE of 21 ± 4. The strain analysis showed low value of GLS (mean GLS of -17.14 ± 2.36) for a reference cut-off of -18%, suggesting subclinical left ventricular dysfunction in this subset of patients with preserved ejection fraction. Maximum CPR values during ICU did not correlate either with the extent of disease evolvement in CT (p= NS) or ARDS severity (p= NS). Nevertheless, maximum CPR correlated significantly with GLS reduction (R = 0.44, p = 0.019). A CPR value higher than iger30mg/dL had 100% specificity for GLS reduction and a cut-off of 14gm/dL reported a sensitivity of 65% and specificity pf 75% for reduction in GLS.
Conclusion
In our study, we reported subclinical impairment in left ventricular function detected with global longitudinal strain after serious infection with SARS-COV2. The detected myocardial dysfunction was related with higher inflammatory as expressed by CPR values. Long-term monitoring of these patients should be undertaken in order to timely detect late complications. Abstract Figure.

Introduction
Regression of left ventricular mass (LVM) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an important parameter of left ventricular reverse remodeling and is associated with less hospitalizations 1year after TAVI. The association between LVM índex (LVMi) at 6 months and outcome 1 year after TAVI is unclear.
Purpose
Evaluate and compare LVMi, before TAVI and 6 months after, and determine the association between LVMi regression and clinical outcomes at 1-year follow-up.
Methods
Retrospective, comparative study in patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis with a high operative risk, after TAVI. All patients underwent echocardiographic study before TAVI and 6 months of follow-up, the LVMi (by the Devereux formula) was evaluated. Associations between LVMi regression (percent change between baseline and 6 months after TAVI), rehospitalization rate and death at 1 year of follow-up were examined.
Results
We studied 50 patients, 82% with moderade or severe LVMi before TAVI. Comparative analysis between ecocardiography study before and 6 months after TAVI, showed there was statistically significant decrease in LVMi (150,7 ± 38 g/m2 vs 132 ± 36 g/m2; p = 0.03). LVMi moderate or severe (between 130 and 154 g/m2) at 6 months was associated with biggest hospitalization rate (p = 0,03).Comparative analysis between regression of LVMi (before and 6 months after TAVI) and death, showed: decrease of 5% and 10% in LVMi was independently associated with death at 1 year (p = 0,77 vs p = 0,4).
Conclusions
Patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis treated with TAVI who had a significant decrease of LVMi after 6 months of follow-up had lower hospitalization rates, but decrease of LVMi is independently associated with death at 1 year of follow-up.
