Abstract
Solanum tuberosum is one of the most widely cropped plant species worldwide; unfortunately, drought is one of the major constraints on potato productivity because it affects the physiology, biochemical processes, and yield. The use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) has exhibited beneficial effects on plants during drought. The objective of this study was to analyse the effect of AMF inoculation on two genotypes of potato plants exposed to water stress, and the photosynthetic traits, enzymatic antioxidant activity, and exudation of low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) of potato plants inoculated with two strains of AMF, Claroideoglomus claroideum (CC) and Claroideoglomus lamellosum (HMC26), were evaluated. Stomatal conductance exhibited a similar trend in the CC and HMC26 treatments for both potato genotypes; moreover, the photosynthetic rate significantly increased by 577.9% between the 100% soil humidity (S0) and 40% soil humidity (S2) stress levels for the VR808 genotype under the CC treatment. The activities of the enzymes catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) showed similar trends. In this study, there were different responses among genotypes and treatments. Inoculation with CC under S2 stress levels is a promising potential approach for improving potato growth under drought conditions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Estimate the effects of non-pharmacological interventions used to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the quality of life, measured by Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALYs). METHODS A survey on 1,506 heads of households from Chile in May of 2022. Respondents were asked basic socioeconomic questions and a version of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire that was used to calculate the evolution of HRQoLs. Comparisons of means in HRQoLs measures before the pandemic, at the peak of restrictions, and at the moment of the survey were performed. RESULTS The average HRQoL of the population before the pandemic was similar to other countries in the region (0.96). At the peak of restrictions (June 2020-August 2021), the average HRQoL decreased to 0.87 (-9%). At the time of survey (May 2022), the average HQRoL was 0.91 (4%). Assuming the recovery trend continued, pre-pandemic HRQoLs would be reached by January 2024. Altogether, the pandemic would have reduced QALYs by 0.2 in average. The effect is larger and the recovery slower among women. Our estimates imply that the restrictions to manage the pandemic came at a cost of 2.4 months of life years for the average (surviving) person, 1.8 months for men and 3.4 for women. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that COVID-19 had worse effects on life quality than previously thought. These effects are more significant among women than among men. Efforts to improve life quality and speed up its recovery could have large positive consequences for the population.

Abstract
Aluminum (Al) toxicity and phosphorus (P) deficiency are widely recognized as major constraints to agricultural productivity in acidic soils. Under this scenario, the development of ryegrass plants with enhanced P use efficiency and Al resistance is a promising approach by which to maintain pasture production. In this study, we assessed the contribution of growth traits, P efficiency, organic acid anion (OA) exudation, and the expression of Al-responsive genes in improving tolerance to concurrent low-P and Al stress in ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Ryegrass plants were hydroponically grown under optimal (0.1 mM) or low-P (0.01 mM) conditions for 21 days, and further supplied with Al (0 and 0.2 mM) for 3 h, 24 h and 7 days. Accordingly, higher Al accumulation in the roots and lower Al translocation to the shoots were found in ryegrass exposed to both stresses. Aluminum toxicity and P limitation did not change the OA exudation pattern exhibited by roots. However, an improvement in the root growth traits and P accumulation was found, suggesting an enhancement in Al tolerance and P efficiency under combined Al and low-P stress. Al-responsive genes were highly upregulated by Al stress and P limitation, and also closely related to P utilization efficiency. Overall, our results provide evidence of the specific strategies used by ryegrass to co-adapt to multiple stresses in acid soils.

Abstract
Lettuce is a vegetable that contributes vitamins, minerals, fibre, phenolic compounds and antioxidants to the human diet. In the search for improving production conditions and crop health, the use of microorganisms with plant growth-promoting capabilities, such as soil yeasts (PGPY), in conjunction with nanotechnology could offer sustainable development of agroecosystems. This study evaluated the synthesis of health-promoting bioactive compounds in lettuce under the application of soil yeast and an iron nanoparticle (NP-Fe2O3) encapsulated in alginate beads. Two yeast strains, Candida guillermondii and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa, and a consortium of both yeasts were used in the presence and absence of Fe2O3-NPs. Phenolic compounds were identified and quantified via HPLC-ESI-Q-ToF and antioxidant activity. Ten phenolic compounds were identified, highlighting the chicoric acid isomer and two quercetin glycosides with high concentrations of up to 100 µg g-1 in treatments with C. guillermondii. Treatments with R. mucilaginosa and NPs-Fe2O3 presented an increase in antioxidant activity, mainly in TEAC, CUPRAC and DPPH activities in leaves, with significant differences between treatments. Therefore, the use of encapsulated soil yeasts is a viable alternative for application in vegetables to improve the biosynthesis and accumulation of phenolic compounds in lettuce and other crops.

Abstract
Drought is a major challenge for agriculture worldwide, being one of the main causes of losses in plant production. Various studies reported that some soil's bacteria can improve plant tolerance to environmental stresses by the enhancement of water and nutrient uptake by plants. The Atacama Desert in Chile, the driest place on earth, harbors a largely unexplored microbial richness. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of various Bacillus sp. from the hyper arid Atacama Desert in the improvement in tolerance to drought stress in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata, cv. "Super Milanesa") plants. Seven strains of Bacillus spp. were isolated from the rhizosphere of the Chilean endemic plants Metharme lanata and Nolana jaffuelii, and then identified using the 16s rRNA gene. Indole acetic acid (IAA) production, phosphate solubilization, nitrogen fixation, and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase activity were assessed. Lettuce plants were inoculated with Bacillus spp. strains and subjected to two different irrigation conditions (95% and 45% of field capacity) and their biomass, net photosynthesis, relative water content, photosynthetic pigments, nitrogen and phosphorus uptake, oxidative damage, proline production, and phenolic compounds were evaluated. The results indicated that plants inoculated with B. atrophaeus, B. ginsengihumi, and B. tequilensis demonstrated the highest growth under drought conditions compared to non-inoculated plants. Treatments increased biomass production and were strongly associated with enhanced N-uptake, water status, chlorophyll content, and photosynthetic activity. Our results show that specific Bacillus species from the Atacama Desert enhance drought stress tolerance in lettuce plants by promoting several beneficial plant traits that facilitate water absorption and nutrient uptake, which support the use of this unexplored and unexploited natural resource as potent bioinoculants to improve plant production under increasing drought conditions.

Abstract
Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is one of the most important food crops worldwide, and Rhizoctonia solani infection is one of the most common diseases. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of Vitis vinifera byproducts (VIDES) and flesh-coloured potato (FCP) extracts against Rhizoctonia sp. in potato crops. Photosynthetic traits, phenolic profiles, and antioxidant and enzymatic activities were determined. The VIDES extract showed a 151.4% improvement in stomatal conductance and a 258.5% improvement in the photosynthetic rate compared to the plants without infection. Regarding the enzymatic antioxidant activity, the best response was found in the FCP treatments with 30 min of application, with increases of 25%, 161%, and 450% in ascorbate peroxidase, catalase (CAT), and glutathione reductase (GR) activities, respectively, compared to plants without infection. For the VIDES extract, a 15 min application produced an 83% increase in CAT activity, whereas a 181% increase in GR activity compared to plants without infection was produced after a 30 min application. A similar behaviour was observed for antioxidant compounds, where FCP had a higher concentration of compounds and antioxidant activity. This finding suggests that FCP and VIDES promote the synthesis of plant-defence compounds against Rhizoctonia sp. in potato crops, in which the application time is a determining factor.

Abstract
Potato (Solanum tuberosum) chips are the most consumed snacks worldwide today. Colored potato chips prepared from potato cultivars with red and purple flesh are a novel alternative to traditional potato chips because of their higher phenolic compound content, such as anthocyanins and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives (HCADs), which might make these chips healthier compared with traditional chips. There is little information on the stability of these compounds. In this study, the nutritional value of these chips was evaluated by determining phenolic profiles, antioxidant activity and color parameters with liquid chromatography diode array and mass spectrometry detection (HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS) and spectrophotometric methods during storage for four months. Five anthocyanins and three HCADs were detected, with the latter compounds being the most abundant, with concentrations on average between the first (97.82 mg kg-1) and the last (31.44 mg kg-1) week of storage. Similar trends were observed in antioxidant activity and stability, with the CUPRAC method showing the highest response among all the methods employed. The color indices were stable throughout the storage time. Based on these results, colored-flesh potato chips are an optimal alternative for consumption because of their high retention of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity during storage, providing potential benefits to human health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the response rates of different extremity soft-tissue sarcoma subtypes (eSTS) after isolated limb perfusion (ILP), based on an international multi-centre study. MATERIALS AND METHODS The retrospective cohort comprised eSTS patients from 17 specialised ILP centres that underwent melphalan-based ILP, with or without recombinant human tumour necrosis factor (rhTNFα) (TM-ILP and M-ILP, respectively). Response was measured on imaging (magnetic resonance imaging) and/or clinical response, for which M-ILPs were excluded. RESULTS A total of 1109 eSTS patients were included. The three most common histological subtypes were undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (17%, n = 184), synovial sarcoma (16%, n = 175) and myxofibrosarcoma (8%, n = 87). rhTNFα was used in 93% (TM-ILP) and resulted in a significantly better overall response rate (ORR, p = 0.031) and complete responses (CR, p < 0.001) in comparison to M-ILP, without significant differences among histological subgroups. The ORR of TM-ILP was 68%, including 17% CR. Also, 80% showed progressive disease. Significantly higher response rates were shown for Kaposi sarcoma (KS) with 42% CR and 96% ORR (both p < 0.001), and significantly higher CR rates for angiosarcoma (AS, 45%, p < 0.001) and clear cell sarcoma (CCS, 31%, p = 0.049). ILP was followed by resection ≤ 6 months in 80% of the patients. The overall limb salvage rate was 88%, without significant differences among histological subgroups, but was significantly higher for ILP responders compared to non-responders (93% versus 76%, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION ILP resulted in high response and LRS among all eSTS subtypes, however, with significant differences between subtypes with most promising results for KS, AS and CCS.

Abstract
Irrigated agriculture is responsible for a third of global agricultural production, but the overuse of water resources and intensification of farming practices threaten its sustainability. The use of saline water in irrigation has become an alternative in areas subjected to frequent drought, but this practice affects plant growth due to osmotic impact and excess of ions. Plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) can mitigate the negative impacts of salinity and other abiotic factors on crop yields. Actinobacteria from the hyper-arid Atacama Desert could increase the plant tolerance to salinity, allowing their use as biofertilizers for lettuce crops using waters with high salt contents. In this work, rhizosphere samples of halophytic Metharme lanata were obtained from Atacama Desert, and actinobacteria were isolated and identified by 16S gene sequencing. The PGPR activities of phosphate solubilization, nitrogen fixation, and the production of siderophore and auxin were assessed at increasing concentrations of NaCl, as well as the enhancement of salt tolerance in lettuce plants irrigated with 100 mM of NaCl. Photosynthesis activity and chlorophyll content, proline content, lipid peroxidation, cation and P concentration, and the identification and quantification of phenolic compounds were assessed. The strains S. niveoruber ATMLC132021 and S. lienomycini ATMLC122021 were positive for nitrogen fixation and P solubilization activities and produced auxin up to 200 mM NaCl. In lettuce plants, both strains were able to improve salt stress tolerance by increasing proline contents, carotenoids, chlorophyll, water use efficiency (WUE), stomatal conductance (gs), and net photosynthesis (A), concomitantly with the overproduction of the phenolic compound dicaffeoylquinic acid. All these traits were positively correlated with the biomass production under saltwater irrigation, suggesting its possible use as bioinoculants for the agriculture in areas where the water resources are scarce and usually with high salt concentrations.

Abstract
This study investigated the synthesis of Ag-SnO2-ZnO by powder metallurgy methods and their subsequent electrical contact behavior. The pieces of Ag-SnO2-ZnO were prepared by ball milling and hot pressing. The arc erosion behavior of the material was evaluated using homemade equipment. The microstructure and phase evolution of the materials were investigated through X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that, although the mass loss of the Ag-SnO2-ZnO composite (9.08 mg) during the electrical contact test was higher than that of the commercial Ag-CdO (1.42 mg), its electrical conductivity remained constant (26.9 ± 1.5% IACS). This fact would be related to the reaction of Zn2SnO4's formation on the material's surface via electric arc. This reaction would play an important role in controlling the surface segregation and subsequent loss of electrical conductivity of this type of composite, thus enabling the development of a new electrical contact material to replace the non-environmentally friendly Ag-CdO composite.

Abstract
In this work, we present the synthesis of TiO2 photocatalysts modified with different % mol of tin using the sol-gel method. The materials were characterized using different analytical techniques. The Rietveld refinement, XPS, Raman and UV-Vis techniques confirm the substitution of tin in the TiO2 structural lattice due to changes in crystal lattice parameters, the low-energy shift of the Sn 3d5/2 orbital, generation of oxygen vacancies and the decreased band gap and increased BET surface area. The material with 1 mol% tin shows superior catalytic activity compared to the references for the degradation of 40 ppm 4-chlorophenol (3 hours of reaction) and 50 ppm phenol (6 hours of reaction). Reactions fit pseudo first order kinetics in both instances. The increase in photodegradation efficiency was attributed to the generation of energy levels below the TiO2 conduction band caused by the incorporation of 1% mol of tin, oxygen vacancies, and the heterojunction formed between the brookite-anatase-rutile, causing inhibition of the recombination of the electron (e-) and hole (h+) photogenerated species. The easy synthesis, low cost and increased photodegradation efficiency of the photocatalyst with 1 mol% tin have the potential to favor the remediation of recalcitrant compounds in water.

Abstract
Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is an autosomal dominant small-vessel disease caused by mutations of the NOTCH3 gene. It typically presents with migraine, recurrent brain ischaemia, and cognitive disorders. Seizures rarely present as the initial manifestation, with non-convulsive status epilepticus being even less frequent. We present a series of 3 related patients with this arteriopathy, 2 of whom presented status epilepticus as a manifestation of the disease.

Abstract
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to identify the effect of pre and postpartum DCAD on serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium in peripartum Holstein cows. Blood samples were collected from 56 cows (18 primiparous and 38 multiparous) on days -7, +7, +14 and +28 relative to parturition, to determine serum levels of total and ionized calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and albumin; diet samples for determination of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and DCAD were collected at the same moments and urine samples were collected at day -7 for measurement of urinary pH. Prepartum DCAD was positively correlated with total calcium (p = 0.02) and with corrected total calcium (p = 0.01) at day -7. There was a negative correlation between prepartum DCAD and magnesium levels at day -7 (p = 0.02). No influence of prepartum DCAD on phosphataemia was observed. Postpartum DCAD did not correlate with serum mineral levels at any time point. Our results demonstrate that prepartum DCAD can influence calcium and magnesium homeostasis, but not phosphorus. In addition, parity and time period should be considered when evaluating serum levels of these minerals in Holstein cows during transition period.

Abstract
Organizational culture is often perceived as a valuable strategic asset supporting business transformation and the exploitation of digital technologies. Still, it can also be the source of inertia that impedes change. The research question proposed is What factors favor or hinder the acquisition of digital culture in large organizations in Chile? The aim is to rank factors that promote a digital culture based on the perception of executives using the Delphi method. The expert panel was selected with strategic criteria, considering practical knowledge, up-to-date experience on the subject, and having high decision-making positions in large companies in Chile. The main statistics used are media, maximum, minimum, and average range, along with the search for consensus determined by the interquartile range and Kendall's W concordance coefficient. Results show a high level of agreement on the importance of digital strategy and digital leadership factors when favoring a digital culture in large companies in Chile. However, large companies in Chile must pay attention to the conservative triad of elements that characterize Chilean work culture that considers the belief that changes are exclusively possible when commanded by the strategic apex, a hierarchical work culture that prevents collaborative work, and the rejection of disruptive change. These factors and cultural characteristics will likely hinder any attempt to succeed in a digital transformation plan.

Abstract
Introducción: El acoso sexual es un tipo frecuente de violencia de género que atenta profundamente contra la integridad personal y los derechos humanos. Este se puede presentar en diferentes contextos, y aún hoy en día los centros de salud no están libres de esta práctica. Actualmente existen instructivos presidenciales que establecen que todos los Servicios de Salud deben contar con protocolos de acoso sexual. El objetivo de esta revisión es evaluar los protocolos de acoso sexual de los Servicios de Salud de Chile dirigidos a personal de salud.
Materiales y Métodos: Se desarrolló un análisis de contenido de los 29 protocolos de acoso sexual de los Servicios de Salud con respecto a los instructivos presidenciales 2015 y 2018. Se generaron 14 ítems de evaluación. Se extrajo el contenido de cada protocolo por ítem, y luego se categorizó de forma cuantitativa (muy adecuado, adecuado, insuficiente, ausente) y se realizó una síntesis de su contenido de forma cualitativa. Se describió el grado de cumplimiento de cada uno de los ítems, y se desarrolló análisis de contenido.
Resultados: Se analizó el 100% de protocolos de los Servicios de Salud. Se evidenció heterogeneidad en la calidad de los mismos, con falencias importantes en el enfoque preventivo, claridad del proceso y medidas reparatorias.
Discusión: Los hallazgos sugieren una revisión de los protocolos de acoso sexual para optimizar y homogeneizar su calidad y pertinencia.

Abstract
Introducción. El retroperitoneo es una estructura que se extiende desde el diafragma hasta la pelvis, está delimitado adelante por el peritoneo parietal, atrás y a los lados por la fascia transversalis y se divide en 9 compartimientos. Se pueden encontrar lesiones primarias o secundarias, cuya evolución clínica varía desde un curso indolente hasta rápidamente progresivo, tanto local como a distancia. Su enfoque, desde el hallazgo hasta el tratamiento, es fundamental para el desenlace oncológico.
Objetivo. Analizar la evaluación, el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de las masas retroperitoneales halladas incidentalmente y brindar un algoritmo de manejo.
Métodos. Se hizo búsqueda en bases de datos como PubMed y MedicalKey de literatura referentes a tumores retroperitoneales, su diagnóstico y enfoque terapéutico, con el fin de presentar una revisión sobre el abordaje de las masas retroperitoneales y dar nuestras opiniones.
Resultados. Se revisaron 43 referencias bibliográficas internacionales y nacionales, y se seleccionaron 20 de ellas, de donde se obtuvieron datos actualizados, recomendaciones de guías internacionales y experiencias nacionales, con lo cual se estructuró este manuscrito.
Conclusiones. Las masas retroperitoneales abarcan un espectro de patologías que establecen un reto diagnóstico por su origen embriológico, localización y baja frecuencia. El diagnostico histológico es de vital importancia desde el inicio, para conocer la evolución natural de la enfermedad, y el manejo multidisciplinario en centros de referencia es fundamental para impactar en los desenlaces oncológicos. Existen variadas modalidades terapéuticas, como quimioterapia, radioterapia y resección quirúrgica con estándares oncológicos.

Abstract
PurposeLatin America is one of the regions with the highest incidence of gastric cancer. Even though, there are not reports about the patterns of pleuro-pulmonary metastases in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma treated with curative intent and the prognosis according to each dissemination pattern.Material and methodsWe conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma treated with curative intent at the National Cancer Institute (INC) between 2010 and 2017. Demographic variables, variables associated with the primary disease and variables associated with the presence of pleuro-pulmonary opacities and metastases were collected. A univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed and survival curves were presented using the Kaplan Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. A Cox regression model was performed for multivariate analysis for overall survival.ResultsThe study included 450 patients, 51.3% were male and the median age was 63 years. Intestinal adenocarcinoma was the most frequent histological subtype, in 261 cases (58.0%). Gastric cancer initial pathological stage was stage I in 23.3% of the patients, stage II in 19.3% and stage III in 53.6%. During a median follow-up of 31.9 months, 37 (8.2%) patients developed pleuro-pulmonary opacities; among those, 14 (3.1%) met the criteria for pleuro-pulmonary metastases: 6 (1.3%) had lymphangitic metastasis, 4 (0.9%) had a mixed pattern of pleural and lung nodules, 3 (0.7%) had pleural metastasis, and only one (0.2%) had hematogenous metastasis. The median OS was 114.5 months for the entire cohort and 38.2 (95%CI, 19.2–57.2) months for patients with pleuro-pulmonary metastases. Patients with pleural metastasis and lymphangitic carcinomatosis had median survival of 24.3 (95%CI, 0.01–51.0) and 26.4 (95%CI, 18.2–34.7) months, respectively.Conclusionsincidence of pleuro-pulmonary metastases in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma treated with curative intention was low. In our series, lymphangitic carcinomatosis was the main pattern of dissemination; meanwhile, hematogenous metastasis was rare and patients with pleural carcinomatosis had the lowest median survival.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a rare, benign, and nonspecific chronic fibrosing inflammation of the mesenteric adipose tissue. Abdominal pain is the most frequent presentation.The objective was to recognize ultrasound (US) features in MP. A retrospective 9-year review of computed tomography- (CT) or US-diagnosed cases of MP recorded in the radiology department was performed. The inclusion criteria included an US recorded in PACS imaging data base within 10 days before CT, to compare and evaluate the correlation of MP diagnosis.The prevalence of MP on CT was 2.8%. The 120 selected patients had an abdominal US 10 days before CT. Male-to-female ratio was 4:1. Fifty-three percent of MP was suggested by US. The US finding was increased volume with fatty mass in the mesentery root (98%). The fatty mesenteric mass had oval shape or convex anterior border in 94%, central abdominal location in 91%, and focal mesenteric increased echogenicity in 95%. Lateral bowel loop displacement was observed in 59%. Detection of lymph nodes was less frequent (55%).In conclusion, MP is an entity to be considered in the differential diagnosis of abdominal pain. Knowledge and recognition of the US findings of MP and central abdominal compression may improve detection during the abdominal US examination.

Abstract
Objetivo. Estudiar la factibilidad de utilización de la inteligencia artificial como método sensible y específico para el cribado de COVID-19 en pacientes con afecciones respiratorias empleando imágenes de tórax obtenidas con tomógrafo y una plataforma de telemedicina. Métodos. Entre marzo del 2020 y junio del 2021 se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo multicéntrico de factibilidad basada en inteligencia artificial (IA) para el cribado de COVID-19 en imágenes de tórax de pacientes con afecciones respiratorias que acudieron a hospitales públicos. El diagnóstico de las imágenes tomográficas de tórax se realizó a través de la plataforma de IA; luego, se comparó con el diagnóstico molecular (RT-PCR) para determinar la concordancia entre ambos y analizar su factibilidad para el cribado de pacientes con sospecha de COVID-19. Las imágenes y los resultados diagnóstico se enviaron a través de una plataforma de telemedicina. Resultados. Se realizó el cribado de 3 514 pacientes con sospecha diagnóstica de COVID-19, en 14 hospitales a nivel nacional. La mayoría de los pacientes tenían entre 27 y 59 años, seguidos por los mayores de 60 años. La edad promedio fue de 48,6 años; el 52,8% eran de sexo masculino. Los hallazgos más frecuentes fueron neumonía grave, neumonía bilateral con derrame pleural, enfisema pulmonar bilateral y opacidad difusa en vidrio esmerilado, entre otros. Se determinó un promedio de 93% de concordancia y 7% de discordancia entre las imágenes analizadas mediante IA y la RT-PCR. La sensibilidad y especificidad del sistema de IA, obtenidas comparando el resultado del cribado obtenido por IA con la RT-PCR, fueron de 93% y 80% respectivamente. Conclusiones. Es viable la utilización de IA sensible y específica para la detección rápida estratificada de COVID-19 en pacientes con afecciones respiratorias utilizando imágenes obtenidas mediante tomografía de tórax y una plataforma de telemedicina en los hospitales públicos de Paraguay.

Abstract
Las neoplasias apendiculares se presentan hasta en el 50 % de los casos como un episodio de apendicitis aguda. Existen características demográficas, clínicas y radiológicas que aumentan las posibilidades de un tumor apendicular subyacente, sin embargo, en la mayoría de los casos, son los hallazgos intraoperatorios los que alertan al cirujano. A pesar de que el tipo histológico determina la radicalidad del manejo quirúrgico de estos pacientes, algunas características macroscópicas pueden orientar a las patologías específicas y a una conducta adecuada. En general, los objetivos del manejo quirúrgico inicial se cumplen con una resección limitada al apéndice cecal, asociada a la citología de mucina y biopsia de los implantes peritoneales si están presentes, reservando las resecciones extendidas, como hemicolectomía derecha oncológica, para los pacientes con compromiso extenso de la base o del mesenterio apendicular ante la sospecha de neoplasias neuroendocrinas o adenocarcinoma del apéndice cecal.

Abstract
In this work the effect of noble metal on the photodegradation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid herbicide using TiO2 as support was studied. The metals and concentration were: Rh, Ru, Pt and Au and 1, 0.98, 1.89, and 1.91 wt% respectively. Rhodium was taken as reference for this experiment. The samples were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), UV-vis absorption spectra, N2 physisorption (BET Specific Surface Area), High Annular Angle Analysis Darkfield (HAADF) and Transmission Electron Microscopy Scanning (STEM), H2 chemisorption, optical emission spectroscopy with inductive coupling plasma analysis (ICP-OES), solid fluorescence, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and OH quantification. The presence of the anatase crystalline phase was mostly confirmed in all samples. The band gap decreased with the presence of metal (from 3.24 to 2.92 eV). The specific area was a function of the metal particle size. The metal particle diameter showed the following sequence Pt > Ru > Au > Rh. By XPS, TiO2 does not manifest changes in oxidation states, but when impregnated with metals, only Pt shows the highest abundance of any oxidized state (Pt2+). The presence of metal reveals less electron–hole recombination compared with titanium oxide. The results of photocatalytic activity showed that Pt and Rh are the two metals with the highest mineralization (99.0 and 98.3%, respectively). The optimum catalyst for the photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-D was Rh (1%)/TiO2 by UV radiation. The Rh presents a strong metal-support interaction and improves the photocatalytic properties of TiO2, modifying its band gap energy.![]()

Abstract
La posibilidad de encontrar una neoplasia benigna o maligna del ovario, de forma inesperada durante una intervención quirúrgica abdominal, es una realidad para todos los especialistas en cirugía. Si bien en muchos casos se tratará de una lesión benigna, el riesgo de cáncer no debe subestimarse, ya que, por ejemplo, la ruptura intraoperatoria de una lesión quística maligna puede reestadificar a una paciente con cáncer de ovario del estadio IA al IC, con todas las consecuencias que esto implica, como la necesidad de requerir quimioterapia adyuvante y tener un peor pronóstico. Por otro lado, en mujeres premenopáusicas debe discutirse con la familia o la paciente (idealmente) el riesgo e implicaciones de la ooforectomía uni o bilateral, incluso si esto amerita dejar el quirófano para obtener el consentimiento, o posponer el procedimiento definitivo para un segundo tiempo. La consulta intraoperatoria a un ginecólogo, siempre que sea posible, se debe llevar a cabo con el fin de respaldar la conducta adoptada. Conocer el manejo adecuado de las masas anexiales encontradas de forma incidental durante una cirugía abdominal, es una prioridad para todos los cirujanos generales

Abstract
Discrete dipole approximation (DDA) is a computational method broadly used to solve light scattering problems. In this work, we propose an extension of DDA that we call Chiral-DDA (CDDA), to study light-chiral matter interactions with the capability of describing the underlying physics behind. Here, CDDA is used to solve and analyze the interaction of a nanoantenna (either metallic or dielectric) with a chiral molecule located in its near field at different positions. Our method allowed to relate near field interactions with far field spectral response of the system, elucidating the role that the nanoantenna electric and magnetic polarizabilities play in the coupling with a chiral molecule. In general, this is not straightforward with other methods. We believe that CDDA has the potential to help researchers revealing some of the still unclear mechanisms responsible for the chiral signal enhancements induced by nanoantennas.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To end the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic, efficient diagnostic tools are needed. In a previous calibration study, a portable 'point of care' electronic nose device (AeonoseTM ) proved to be a promising tool in a hospital setting. We evaluated this technology to detect TB in an indigenous population in Paraguay. METHODS A total of 131 participants were enrolled. eNose results were compared with anamnesis, physical examinations, chest radiography and mycobacterial cultures in individuals with signs and symptoms compatible with TB. The eNose analysis was performed in two stages: first, the training with a combination of a previous study population plus 47 participants from the new cohort (total n = 153), and second, the 'blind prediction' of 84 participants. RESULTS 21% of all participants (n = 131) showed symptoms and/or chest radiography abnormalities suspicious of TB. No sputum samples resulted culture positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. Only one patient had a positive smell print analysis. In the training model, the specificity was 92% (95% confidence interval (CI): 85%-96%) and the negative predictive value (NPV) was 95%. In the blind prediction model, the specificity and the NPV were 99% (95% CI: 93%-99%) and 100%, respectively. Although the sensitivity and positive predictive value of the eNose could not be assessed in this cohort due to the small sample size, no active TB cases were found during a one year of follow-up period. CONCLUSION The eNose showed promising specificity and negative predictive value and might therefore be developed as a rule-out test for TB in vulnerable populations.

Abstract
Introducción. El Registro Colombiano de Víctimas de Lesiones por Minas Antipersona fue lanzado por el gobierno de Colombia con el objetivo de recolectar información sobre los casos de heridos por minas antipersona en el país. El propósito de este estudio fue investigar las disparidades de mortalidad entre las víctimas de lesiones por minas antipersona, en función de la pertenencia a una minoría étnica.
Métodos. Se hizo una regresión logística multivariable para examinar la asociación entre minorías étnicas y mortalidad en las personas heridas por minas antipersona.
Resultados. Se registraron 10.306 casos de lesiones por minas antipersona, de los cuales 430 eran personas pertenecientes a grupos étnicos minoritarios (indígenas o afrodescendientes). De estos, 85 (19,7 %) eran mujeres, 156 (36,2 %) eran menores de 18 años y 427 (99,3%) vivían en áreas rurales. La mortalidad fue significativamente mayor (29,3 %) en comparación con la población mestiza (18,5 %; p < 0,001). Después de ajustar por sexo, edad, soldado en servicio activo, área rural y volumen de casos por departamento, encontramos que las minorías étnicas tenían mayores probabilidades de morir (OR = 2,03; IC95% 1,61- 2,56; p < 0,001).
Discusión. Encontramos una asociación entre la pertenencia a una minoría étnica y una mayor probabilidad de mortalidad con lesiones causadas por minas antipersona. Estos hallazgos deberían alentar a los legisladores de las zonas rurales de Colombia a trabajar más diligentemente, para reducir las consecuencias nocivas de las lesiones causadas por estos artefactos en los grupos étnicos minoritarios.

Abstract
The exposure of pigs to heat stress (HS) appears to damage their intestinal epithelia, affecting the absorption of amino acids (AA). Arg is involved in the restoration of intestinal epithelial cells but HS reduces Arg intake. The effect of dietary supplementation with Arg on morphology of intestinal epithelia, AA transporter gene expression, and serum concentration (SC) of free AA in HS pigs were analyzed. Twenty pigs (25.3 ± 2.4 kg BW) were randomly assigned to two dietary treatments: control (0.81% Arg), wheat-soybean meal diet supplemented with L-Lys, L-Thr, DL-Met and L-Trp, and the experimental diet where 0.16% free L-Arg was supplemented to a similar control diet (+Arg). All pigs were individually housed and exposed to HS, fed at libitum with full access to water. The ambient temperature, recorded at 15-min intervals during the 21-d trial, ranged on average from 29.6 to 39.4 °C within the same day. Blood samples were collected on d18 at 1600 h (ambient temperature peak); serum was separated by centrifugation. At the end of the trial, five pigs per treatment were sacrificed to collect samples of mucosa scratched from each small intestine segment. The expression of AA transporters in intestinal mucosa and the SC of AA were analyzed. Villi height was higher (P < 0.01) in duodenum, jejunum, and ileum but the crypt depth did not differ between the control and the +Arg pigs. Supplementation of L-Arg increased the mRNA coding for the synthesis of the cationic AA transporter b 0,+ (P < 0.01) and the neutral AA transporter B 0 (P < 0.05) in duodenum by approximately five-folds and three-folds, respectively, but no effect on mRNA abundance was observed in jejunum and ileum. The supplementation of L-Arg increased serum Arg, His, Met, Thr, Trp, and urea (P < 0.05); tended to increase Val (P < 0.10), but did not affect Ile, Lys, Leu, and Phe. These results indicate that supplementing 0.16% L-Arg to the control diet may help to improve the function of the small intestine epithelium, by increasing the villi height, the abundance of AA transporters, and the SC of most indispensable AA in pigs exposed to HS conditions. However, the lack of effect of supplemental Arg on both Lys SC and weight gain of pigs suggests that increasing the Lys content in the +Arg diet might be needed to improve the performance of HS pigs.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of the study was to present the results and impact of the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the rapid diagnosis of COVID-19 by telemedicine in public health in Paraguay. Methods: This is a descriptive, multi-centered, observational design feasibility study based on an AI tool for the rapid detection of COVID-19 in chest computed tomography (CT) images of patients with respiratory difficulties attending the country’s public hospitals. The patients’ digital CT images were transmitted to the AI diagnostic platform, and after a few minutes, radiologists and pneumologists specialized in COVID-19 downloaded the images for evaluation, confirmation of diagnosis, and comparison with the genetic diagnosis (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)). It was also determined the percentage of agreement between two similar AI systems applied in parallel to study the viability of using it as an alternative method of screening patients with COVID-19 through telemedicine. Results: Between March and August 2020, 911 rapid diagnostic tests were carried out on patients with respiratory disorders to rule out COVID-19 in 14 hospitals nationwide. The average age of patients was 50.7 years, 62.6% were male and 37.4% female. Most of the diagnosed respiratory conditions corresponded to the age group of 27–59 years (252 studies), the second most frequent corresponded to the group over 60 years, and the third to the group of 19–26 years. The most frequent findings of the radiologists/pneumologists were severe pneumonia, bilateral pneumonia with pleural effusion, bilateral pulmonary emphysema, diffuse ground glass opacity, hemidiaphragmatic paresis, calcified granuloma in the lower right lobe, bilateral pleural effusion, sequelae of tuberculosis, bilateral emphysema, and fibrotic changes, among others. Overall, an average of 86% agreement and 14% diagnostic discordance was determined between the two AI systems. The sensitivity of the AI system was 93% and the specificity 80% compared with RT-PCR. Conclusion: Paraguay has an AI-based telemedicine screening system for the rapid stratified detection of COVID-19 from chest CT images of patients with respiratory conditions. Abstract
The molecular mechanisms underlying fish tolerance to soybean meal (SBM) remain unclear. Identifying these mechanisms would be beneficial, as this trait favors growth. Two fish replicates from 19 experimental families were fed fishmeal-(100FM) or SBM-based diets supplemented with saponin (50SBM + 2SPN) from juvenile to adult stages. Individuals were selected from families with a genotype-by-environment interaction higher (HG-50SBM + 2SPN, 170 ± 18 mg) or lower (LG-50SBM + 2SPN, 76 ± 10 mg) weight gain on 50SBM + 2SPN for intestinal transcriptomic analysis. A histological evaluation confirmed middle intestinal inflammation in the LG- vs. HG-50SBM + 2SPN group. Enrichment analysis of 665 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified pathways associated with immunity and lipid metabolism. Genes linked to intestinal immunity were downregulated in HG fish (mpx, cxcr3.2, cftr, irg1l, itln2, sgk1, nup61l, il22), likely dampening inflammatory responses. Conversely, genes involved in retinol signaling were upregulated (rbp4, stra6, nr2f5), potentially favoring growth by suppressing insulin responses. Genes associated with lipid metabolism were upregulated, including key components of the SREBP (mbtps1, elov5l, elov6l) and cholesterol catabolism (cyp46a1), as well as the downregulation of cyp7a1. These results strongly suggest that transcriptomic changes in lipid metabolism mediate SBM tolerance. Genotypic variations in DEGs may become biomarkers for improving early selection of fish tolerant to SMB or others plant-based diets.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION What is the effect of saturated fat ingestion on mononuclear cell (MNC) TNFα, IL-6 and IL-1β secretion and circulating IL-6 levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? SUMMARY ANSWER Women with PCOS exhibit increases in MNC-derived TNFα, IL-6 and IL-1β secretion and circulating IL-6 following saturated fat ingestion even in the absence of obesity, and these increases are linked to metabolic aberration and androgen excess. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Cytokine excess and metabolic aberration is often present in PCOS. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION A cross-sectional design was used in this study of 38 reproductive-age women. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Groups of 19 reproductive-age women with PCOS (10 lean, 9 obese) and 19 ovulatory controls (10 lean, 9 obese) participated in this study that was performed at a tertiary academic medical centre. TNFα, IL-6 and IL-1β secretion was measured from cultured MNC, and IL-6 was measured in plasma from blood sampling while fasting and 2, 3 and 5 h after saturated fat ingestion. Insulin sensitivity was determined using the Matsuda index following an oral glucose tolerance test. Androgen secretion was evaluated with blood sampling while fasting and 24, 48 and 72 h after an HCG injection. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Lean and obese women with PCOS exhibited lipid-induced incremental AUC increases in MNC-derived TNFα (489-611%), IL-6 (333-398%) and IL-1β (560-695%) secretion and in plasma IL-6 levels (426-474%), in contrast with lean control subjects. In both PCOS groups, insulin sensitivity was lower (42-49%) and androgen secretion after HCG injection was greater (63-110%) compared with control subjects. The MNC-derived TNFα, IL-6 and IL-1β and circulating IL-6 responses were inversely associated with insulin sensitivity and directly associated with fasting lipids and androgen secretion after HCG injection. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION The sample size of each of the four study groups was modest following group assignment of subjects by body mass. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS This study showcases the unique pro-inflammatory contribution of circulating MNC in the development of metabolic aberration and androgen excess in PCOS. Abstract
Since the introduction of lung nodule radio-guided localization, multiport video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery resection has been widely described. To date, only one series has reported the use of uniportal approach. Our objective is to describe the experience of a single institution of lung nodule radio-guided localization and uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery resection. Retrospective cohort study based on data from medical records of patients between May 2012 and April 2019. Twenty-four patients were included, 13 were women (54.2%) with a median age of 59.5 years (range 19 and 81 years). Median nodule size was 7 mm (range 3-12 mm) and 19 (79.2%) patients had single lung nodule. The main indication was sub-centimetric nodule in 22 (91.6%) patients followed by a deep localization in 10 (41.6%) patients and sub-solid nodule in 9 (37.5%) patients. Median surgical time was 102.5 min (range 55-160 min). 4 (16.6%) patients had malignant neoplasm of the lung, 10 (41.7%) patients had lung metastases and 10 (41.7%) patients had benign lung lesions. The success rate found was 95.8%. Concordance analysis between palpation of the pulmonary nodule and the presence of the nodule in the histopathology was rated as poor, kappa value - 0.71 (P = 0.186) and between the resection of the pulmonary nodule according to the presence of the nodule in the pathology report was rated as good, Kappa value 0.625 (P = 0.001). Lung nodule radio-guided localization and uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery resection has a similar success rate and complications to those described by multiport video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery resections.

Abstract
Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is an autosomal dominant small-vessel disease caused by mutations of the NOTCH3 gene. It typically presents with migraine, recurrent brain ischaemia, and cognitive disorders. Seizures rarely present as the initial manifestation, with non-convulsive status epilepticus being even less frequent. We present a series of 3 related patients with this arteriopathy, 2 of whom presented status epilepticus as a manifestation of the disease.

Abstract
Avian trichomonosis is a parasitic disease caused by the flagellated protozoan Trichomonas gallinae. Columbiformes are the reservoir host of the parasite, with high levels of infection, but also other domestic and wild birds from a variety of orders are susceptible to the infection and development of gross lesions. In this paper we describe the type and severity of lesions in wild birds in four avian orders (Accipitriformes, Falconiformes, Strigiformes and Columbiformes). A total of 94 clinical cases diagnosed of trichomonosis were selected for the categorization of their lesions in the upper digestive tract. The affected birds were classified into three different categories (mild, moderate and severe) based on size (in relation to the tracheal opening), depth and location of the lesions. Mild cases are those with small and superficial lesions far from the oropharyngeal opening; moderate cases possess larger and deeper lesions, and severe cases very large and deep lesions that impede swallowing or affect the skull. Mild lesions were found in 10.6 % of cases; moderate lesions were observed in 18.1 % of the birds and severe lesions in 71.3 %. Treatment outcomes in birds with either mild or moderate lesions were favorable, while severe lesions were related to poor body score, leading to death or euthanasia in most cases. A relationship between severe lesions and avian order was found, with a higher percentage of birds with this type in Falconiformes, Columbiformes and Strigiformes. Multifocal lesions were more frequent in Columbiformes and Falconiformes. In Strigiformes, 93.3 % of birds showed lesions in the upper jaw. This study seeks to further understanding of avian trichomonosis and to provide information that will be useful to veterinarians and related professionals for assessment, prognosis and treatment choice for these birds.

Abstract
Objective Colorectal cancer (CRC) and hypodontia are frequent and different diseases with common genes are involved in their etiology. The objective of this study was to identify the association between AXIN2 rs2240308 with hypodontia and CRC. Patients and methods This study consisted of 50 individuals with hypodontia, 50 individuals with CRC, and 155 healthy individuals from Colombia. SNP genotyping assays of rs2240308 were performed and family history of cancer in individuals with hypodontia was documented. In silico analysis was implemented to define the genomic profile of the AXIN2 gene associated with CRC. Multivariate analysis, chi square, odd ratio tests, and R software were used for statistical analysis. Results AXIN2 rs2240308 showed association with CRC (OR = 5.4 CI: 2.7–10.4; p < 0.001) and with other familial cancer in individuals with hypodontia (p < 0.005 OR = 1.75, 95% CI: 1.22–6.91). In silico analysis showed that variations in AXIN2 found in CRC patients, were more frequently in earlier stages of tumor and patients who carry variations in the AXIN2 gene have a worse prognosis (p < 0.05). The association between AXIN2 rs2240308 with hypodontia was not significant. Conclusions These results suggest that AXIN2 rs2240308 polymorphism is associated with CRC and AXIN2 could be a risk marker for predisposition and prognosis of CRC.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Household cleaning products and cosmetics are necessary for daily life and widely used by the population. However, their use may not be risk-free, especially when they are not used or stored as recommended. It is important to characterize exposures, as this is useful for developing stra tegies to reduce morbidity, mortality, and health costs associated, especially in the child population. OBJECTIVE To describe reports associated with household cleaning products and cosmetics exposure in patients under the age of 12, reported to the Poison Information Center of the Catholic University of Chile (CITUC). PATIENTS AND METHOD Descriptive cross-sectional study of phone calls to CITUC during 2016. The analyzed variables were age, sex, product, caller, caller and incident location, ex posure circumstances, exposure route(s), symptoms, and severity from manual records and from the WHO's electronic record software 'INTOX Data Management System'. RESULTS 3,415 cases met the inclusion criteria. Children under the age of five represented 91% of the exposures, and 58.5% were male. 99.4% were accidental exposures, and 98.6% occurred at home. Family members (57%) and health personnel (42%) made the calls. 68.3% of the patients had no symptoms after exposure. The four products with the highest incidence were household bleach (27.6%), floor cleaners and polishers (13.1%), dish soap (7.9%), and perfume/cologne (5.8%). The main exposure route was by ingestion (89.4%). CONCLUSIONS Household cleaning products and cosmetics are common causes of exposures especially in children under the age of five. Although these products have a low morbidity and mortality rate, it is important to educate the population to prevent possible poisonings in the child population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) is a therapeutic alternative for patients with inoperable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). AIM To report the initial experience with the "refined BPA technique" with the use of intravascular images. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between June 2015 and June 2016 we selected fourteen patients with CTEPH who were considered candidates for BPA. Lesions targeted for treatment were further analyzed using intravascular imaging with optical frequency domain imaging (OFDI). We report the immediate hemodynamic results and four weeks of follow-up of the first eight patients of this series. RESULTS We performed 16 BPA in eight patients aged 61 ± 14 years (88% women). Mean pulmonary artery pressure (PAPm) was 48.6 ± 5.8 mmHg. Success was achieved in seven patients (88%). A mean of 2.3 segments per patient were intervened in 11 sessions (1.6 sessions/ patient). Only one patient developed lung reperfusion injury. No mortality was associated with the procedure. After the last BPA session, PAPm decreased to 37.4 ± 8.6 mmHg (p=0.02). Pulmonary vascular resistance (RVP) decreased from 858,6 ± 377,0 at baseline to 516,6 ± 323,3 Dynes/sec/cm-5 (p<0.01) and the cardiac index increased from 2.4±0.6 at baseline to 2.8±0.3 L/min/m2 (p=0.01). At 4 weeks after the last BPA, WHO functional class improved from 3.3±0.5 to 2.5±0.5 (p<0,01) and six minutes walking distance from 331±92 to 451±149 m (p=0.01). CONCLUSIONS BPA guided by OFDI for the treatment of inoperable CTEPH patients is a safe alternative with excellent immediate hemodynamic and clinical results.

Abstract
Studies of krill (Crustacea: Euphausiacea) in oceanic waters of the Bay of Biscay are scarce and restricted to the epipelagic zone, overlooking vertical dynamics such as diurnal vertical migration (DVM). There is a growing interest in acoustically evaluating the biomass of krill in this area, but this requires a good knowledge of its vertical dynamics and aggregation patterns. In this work we employed acoustic data and net samples from two consecutive annual surveys covering a wide off-shelf area of the Bay of Biscay (JUVENA surveys of 2013 and 2014) and four seasonal surveys covering slope and oceanic waters in the Cantabrian Sea (SCAPA surveys of 2015). Vertical dynamics of krill were analyzed in the frame of the environmental seascape. High interannual and seasonal variations in the vertical distribution and aggregation patterns (small swarms, dense aggregations, or loose layers) of krill were observed. The vertical distribution covaried with dissolved oxygen and salinity. According to our findings, the best season to acoustically evaluate krill in the Bay of Biscay is spring, with the bulk of the biomass located above 600 m depth. Moreover, extending the acoustic recording beyond the epipelagic zone is mandatory for any season.

Abstract
Due to the complexity of the radiative transfer equation, light transport problems are commonly solved using either models under restrictive assumptions, e.g., N-flux models where infinite lateral extension is assumed, or numerical methods. While the latter can be applied to more general cases, it is difficult to relate their parameters to the physical properties of the systems under study. Hence in this contribution we present, first, a review of a four-flux formalism to study the light transport problem in a plane-parallel system together with a derivation of equations to evaluate the different contributions to the total absorptance and, second, as a complementary tool, a Monte Carlo algorithm with a direct correspondence between its inputs and the properties of the system. The combination of the four-flux model and the Monte Carlo approach provides (i) all convergence warranties since the formalism has been established as a limit and (ii) new added capabilities, i.e., both temporal (transient states) and spatial (arbitrarily inhomogeneous media) resolution. The support between the theoretical model and the numerical tool is reciprocal since the model is utilized to set a Monte Carlo discretization criterion, while the Monte Carlo approach is used to validate the aforementioned model. This reinforces the parallel approach used in this work. Furthermore, we provide some examples to show its capabilities and potential, e.g., the study of the temporal distribution of a delta-like pulse of light.

Abstract
The Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE), defined as "the health supervision of individuals, prior to the practice of physical activity and/or sports, which seeks to optimize their safe participation in sports and provide an opportunity to identify current and future risks to their health and quality of life", inclu des the Cardiovascular assessment, which aims to screen cardiovascular pathologies with the risk of worsening or sudden death during exercise. Although there is broad international consensus that the use of Pediatric Cardiovascular PPE in young athletes is useful, there is no consensus on whether this should be used in the entire pediatric population or on which is the best strategy to apply. This article presents the position of the scientific societies related to sport, physical activity and child health on the Pediatric Cardiovascular PPE.

Abstract
Introducción: Cuando se utilicen cuestionarios desarrollados en otros países e idiomas en estudios científicos, además de traducirlos, es necesario su adaptación cultural y validación, el objetivo de esta investigación es contar con un instrumento válido y confiable para evaluar las competencias del personal de enfermería en salud pública, para aplicarlo en el contexto mexicano.
Metodología: El estudio fue de tipo descriptivo-transversal, multietápico, la población se integró en 3 grupos para las 3 diferentes etapas, en la primera, por un grupo de 10 expertos en investigación de la Facultad de Enfermería de Tampico, de la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, México y 17 profesionales que laboran en el primer nivel de atención; en la segunda, 30 profesionales de enfermería y en la tercera 177 profesionales que trabajan en el campo de la salud pública, todos ellos de tres jurisdicciones del Sur de Tamaulipas, México, el muestreo fue por conveniencia.
Resultados: En cuanto a los tres procesos que se realizaron para la validación del instrumento, se mostraron resultados adecuados y satisfactorios para su aplicación, ya que en la prueba de V-Aiken se obtuvo un resultado cercano a 1, en el proceso semántico sólo se realizó modificación a una palabra; a través de la prueba piloto se obtuvo un resultado de 0.97 en el alfa de cronbach.
Conclusiones: El instrumento se considera válido para iniciar con la evaluación de las mencionadas competencias, para contar con un diagnóstico inicial de las áreas de oportunidad para personal de enfermería.

Abstract
A total of 97 southern silvery grebes (Podiceps occipitalis), which died as the result of an oil spill on the coast of central Chile, were examined for ecto- and endoparasites. Two lice species including Aquanirmus rollandii (Philopteridae) and Pseudomenopon dolium (Menoponidae) were found from 6.2% (6/97) of birds. In 91.7% (89/97) of cases, grebes were infected with some kind of helminths. Three species of gastrointestinal helminths were detected: Eucoleus contortus (Nematoda), Profilicollis bullocki (Acanthocephala), and Confluaria sp. (Cestoda). In addition, Pelecitus fulicaeatrae (Nematoda) was removed from the tibiotarsal-tarsometatarsal articulation in 13.4% (13/97) of the specimens examined. To our knowledge, these are the first records of A. rollandii, E. contortus, and Confluaria sp. as parasites of P. occipitalis. In addition, these findings expand the distributional range of A. rollandii, E. contortus, P. fulicaeatrae, and Confluaria sp. to Chile.

Abstract
Carbon nanotubes are of huge biotechnological interest because they can penetrate most biological barriers and, inside cells, can biomimetically interact with the cytoskeletal filaments, triggering anti-proliferative and cytotoxic effects in highly dividing cells. Unfortunately, their intrinsic properties and bio-persistence represent a putative hazard that relapses their application as therapies against cancer. Here we investigate mild oxidation treatments to improve the intracellular enzymatic digestion of MWCNTs, but preserving their morphology, responsible for their intrinsic cytotoxic properties. Cell imaging techniques and confocal Raman spectroscopic signature analysis revealed that cultured macrophages can degrade bundles of oxidized MWCNTs (o-MWCNTs) in a few days. The isolation of nanotubes from these phagocytes 96 hours after exposure confirmed a significant reduction of approximately 30% in the total length of these filaments compared to the control o-MWCNTs extracted from the cell culture medium, or the intracellular pristine MWCNTs. More interestingly, in vivo single intratumoral injections of o-MWCNTs triggered ca. 30% solid melanoma tumour growth-inhibitory effects while displaying significant signs of biodegradation at the tumoral/peri-tumoral tissues a week after the therapy has had the effect. These results support the potential use of o-MWCNTs as antitumoral agents and reveal interesting clues of how to enhance the efficient clearance of in vivo carbon nanotubes.
