Abstract
Objective: To explore the occurrence and influencing factors of post-burn psychological stress disorder in preschool children. Methods: This study was a multi-center cross-sectional survey. From January 2022 to February 2023, 85 preschool children (aged 1 to 6 years) with burns admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong Central Hospital, Suining Central Hospital, Guang'an People's Hospital, and Guangyuan Central Hospital who met the inclusion criteria were selected as respondents. A self-made general information questionnaire was used to investigate the children's general data including gender, age group, residential area, main caregiver and their education level, and family type, as well as the injury condition including cause of injury and burn severity. The Child Stress Disorders Checklist was used to investigate the occurrence of psychological stress disorder in children at 3 days to 1 month after injury, and the incidence rate was calculated. The children were classified according to their general data and injury condition, and the occurrence of psychological stress disorder in children at 3 days to 1 month after injury was recorded, and the influencing factors for post-burn psychological stress disorder in preschool children were screened. Results: A total of 85 questionnaires were distributed and 85 valid questionnaires were recovered, with an effective recovery rate of 100%. Among the children, there were 45 boys and 40 girls, with most children aged 1 to 3 years. There were slightly more children in rural areas than in cities. About half of the children were mainly cared for by their parents and grandparents, respectively, and the education level of the main caregivers was mainly high school/technical secondary school. The family type was mainly core family and extended family. The main cause of injury was hydrothermal scald, and the severity of burns was mainly moderate. The incidence rate of psychological stress disorder in this group of children at 3 days to 1 month after injury was 34.12% (29/85). There were statistically significant differences in the occurrence of psychological stress disorder in children with different age groups, causes of injuries, and burn severity at 3 days to 1 month after injury (with χ2 valuesof 9.18, 7.80, and 25.47, respectively, P<0.05); there were no statistically significant differences in the occurrence of psychological stress disorder in children with different genders, residential area, main caregivers, main caregivers' education levels, or family types at 3 days to 1 month after injury (P>0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age group and burn severity were independent influencing factors for the occurrence of psychological stress disorder in preschool children after burns (with odds ratios of 8.21 and 33.99, respectively, and 95% confidence intervals of 1.57-43.04 and 5.55-207.93, respectively, P<0.05), the older the child and the more severe the burn, the higher the possibility of the occurrence of psychological stress disorder. Conclusions: The incidence rate of psychological stress disorder is high in preschool children after burns. Age group and burn severity are independent influencing factors for the occurrence of post-burn psychological stress disorder in this type of children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), formerly known as Churg-Strauss syndrome, is a rare form of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis characterized by asthma, vasculitis, and eosinophilia. CASE SUMMARY We report an atypical case of EGPA in a 20-year-old female patient. Unlike previously reported cases of EGPA, this patient's initial symptom was asthma associated with a respiratory infection. This was followed by Loeffler endocarditis and cardiac insufficiency. She received treatment with methylprednisolone sodium succinate, low molecular weight heparin, recombinant human brain natriuretic peptide, furosemide, cefoperazone sodium/sulbactam sodium, and acyclovir. Despite prophylactic anticoagulation, she developed a large right ventricular thrombus. EGPA diagnosis was confirmed based on ancillary test results and specialty consultations. Subsequent treatment included mycophenolate mofetil. Her overall condition improved significantly after treatment, as evidenced by decreased peripheral blood eosinophils and cardiac markers. She was discharged after 17 d. Her most recent follow-up showed normal peripheral blood eosinophil levels, restored cardiac function, and a reduced cardiac mural thrombus size. CONCLUSION This case illustrates the swift progression of EGPA and underscores the significance of early detection and immediate intervention to ensure a favorable prognosis.

Abstract
Retinoic-acid-receptor-related orphan receptor γ (RORγ) is a major transcription factor for proinflammatory IL-17A production. Here, we revealed that the RORγ deficiency protects mice from STZ-induced Type 1 diabetes (T1D) through inhibiting IL-17A production, leading to improved pancreatic islet β cell function, thereby uncovering a potential novel therapeutic target for treating T1D. We further identified a novel RORγ inverse agonist, ginseng-derived panaxadiol, which selectively inhibits RORγ transcriptional activity with a distinct cofactor recruitment profile from known RORγ ligands. Structural and functional studies of receptor-ligand interactions reveal the molecular basis for a unique binding mode for panaxadiol in the RORγ ligand-binding pocket. Despite its inverse agonist activity, panaxadiol induced the C-terminal AF-2 helix of RORγ to adopt a canonical active conformation. Interestingly, panaxadiol ameliorates mice from STZ-induced T1D through inhibiting IL-17A production in a RORγ-dependent manner. This study demonstrates a novel regulatory function of RORγ with linkage of the IL-17A pathway in pancreatic β cells, and provides a valuable molecule for further investigating RORγ functions in treating T1D.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of applying the digital six-axis external fixation frame based on CT data in the treatment of tibiofibular fractures. Methods: The clinical data of 43 patients with tibiofibular fractures treated by the self-developed digital six-axis external fixation frame based on CT data at Integrated Orthopedic Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine,HongHui Hospital from January 2018 to January 2021 were retrospective analysis.There were 27 males and 16 females,aged (36.0±9.4) years(range:25 to 50 years).AO classification:15 cases of 42A,11 cases of 42B, and 17 cases of 42C.There were 7 open fractures and Gustilo fracture classification:2 cases of type Ⅰ,4 cases of type Ⅱ,and 1 case of type Ⅲ.The two or three plane rings were connected with six connecting rods to form a complete six-axis external fixation frame,and the distal and proximal fracture blocks were connected to the distal and proximal rings by fixation pins,and the lengths of the six connecting rods needed to be adjusted were calculated by using the supporting software according to the CT data after surgery,and then the lengths of the connecting rods were adjusted one by one to complete the reduction of the fracture. The reduction accuracy of this six-axis external fixation brace was evaluated by measuring postoperative radiographs; postoperative recovery and complications were collected,the time of brace removal was recorded,and the function of the affected limb was evaluated according to the Johner-Wruhs score at the final follow-up. Results: Postoperative radiographs showed that all patients achieved satisfactory reduction with lateral displacement(M(IQR)) of 2.3(2.5) mm (range:0.3 to 7.3 mm),anteroposterior displacement of 2.1 (2.4) mm (range:0.3 to 5.7 mm),anteroposterior angulation of 2.5(2.4)°(range:0 to 5°),internal and external angulation of 2.1(1.5)°(range:0 to 4°), and no significant internal or external rotational deformity was detected on the exterior.On the second postoperative day,all patients were able to walk with partial weight-bearing on crutches. All 43 patients were followed up for more than 6 months,with a follow-up period of (33.3±7.3) weeks (range:24 to 42 weeks).The external fixation frame was removed after the fracture healed.The external frame was removed at 20(3)weeks (range:18 to 25 weeks) postoperatively. Up to the final follow up, no secondary fracture occurred in any of them.The Johner-Wruhs score of the affected limb at the last follow-up was excellent in 39 cases and good in 4 cases. Conclusion: The digital six-axis external fixator based on CT data for tibiofibular fractures has the advantages of precise reduction,firm fixation,simple operation,rapid fracture healing,and minimal trauma, which is a minimally invasive method for treating tibiofibular fractures,especially suitable for patients with poor skin and soft tissue conditions such as open injuries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationship of Sparganum isolates from snakes in Hunan Province. METHODS The partial mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 (pnad4) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5 (pnad5) genes were amplified using a PCR assay in 7 Sparganum isolates from snakes in Hunan Province and the amplification product was sequenced. The homology and genetic evolution were investigated using the software DNAMAN 7.0, MegAlign, DnaSP 5.0 and MEGA 5.0. RESULTS The pnad4 and pnad5 gene sequences were approximately 578 bp and 484 bp in length in the 7 Sparganum isolates from Hunan Province, and the percentages of genetic variations were 0 to 2.8% and 0 to 0.8%, respectively. There were 4 haplotypes detected in both the pnad4 and pnad5 genes, with global haplotype diversities of 0.810 ± 0.016 and 0.905 ± 0.011, nucleotide diversities of 0.006 ± 0.005 and 0.004 ± 0.003, and mean nucleotide variations of 3.960 and 1.905, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all 7 Sparganum isolates from snakes in Hunan Province were clustered into the same branch with Spirometra erinaceieuropaei isolates from different regions/hosts in the world, which belonged to S. erinaceieuropaei, which were close to Diphyllobothrium latum and far from other tapeworms. CONCLUSIONS There is a low genetic variation in snake-derived S. erinaceieuropaei isolates from Hunan Province, and both pnad4 and pnad5 genes may be potential molecular genetic markers for identification of S. erinaceieuropaei.

Abstract
Ischemic stroke is the most prevalent stroke condition in the world resulted in either a transient ischemic attack or long-lasting neurological problems due to the interrupted or reduced blood flow to the brain. Antrodia camphorata is a well-known medicinal mushroom native to Taiwan and is familiar due to its medicinal effects. The current study investigated the protective effect of A. camphorata-alcohol extracts (AC-AE) against cobalt (II) chloride (CoCl2 )-induced oxidative stress in vitro and ischemia/reperfusion-induced brain injury in vivo. The rats were pre-treated with AC-AE for 4 weeks. Our results showed that AC-AE reduced cell damage and decreased reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in C6 and PC12 cells under CoCl2 -induced hypoxic condition. AC-AE doses (385, 770, 1,540 mg/kg/day, 4 weeks) increased nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) mRNA expressions and decreased inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) mRNA expressions in Sprague Dawley rat. Besides, it decreased stroke infarct size and increased the level of antioxidants in both brain and serum. Furthermore, it reduced the formation of malondialdehyde (MDA) after ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Our results suggested that AC-AE exerted an effective reduction of ischemia stroke by regulating ROS production.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been demonstrated to play crucial roles in the early stage of acute ischaemic stroke (AIS). The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression patterns of miRNAs in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from AIS patients and further explore related molecular mechanisms in stroke-induced immunodeficiency syndrome (SIDS). METHODS The miRNA expression patterns of PBMCs were detected by miRNA microarray and validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in AIS patients and healthy controls. Bioinformatics methods and luciferase reporter assays were used to detect the downstream target genes. Following stimulation with lipopolysaccharide and interleukin-4, the expression of miR-4443, tumor necrosis factor receptor associated factor 4 (TRAF4) and the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway were evaluated. Furthermore, transfection with miR-4443 mimic or inhibitor in the monocytes was carried out to gain insight into the mechanisms in SIDS. RESULTS Interleukin-10 in AIS patients was significantly higher than that of healthy controls. The miRNA microarray analysis and qRTPCR validation showed that only miR-4443 was upregulated expressed in PBMCs from AIS patients, especially in monocytes. miR-4443 was shown to directly interact with the 3' untranslated regions of TRAF4, resulting in suppression of TRAF4 protein expression. Furthermore, the expression of miR-4443 and TRAF4 was regulated by stimulation with lipopolysaccharide or interleukin-4. Additionally, overexpression of miR-4443 suppressed the TRAF4/Iκα/NF-κB signaling pathway to activate the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines in monocytes. CONCLUSIONS The increased expression of miR-4443 induced monocyte dysfunction by targeting TRAF4, which may function as a crucial mediator in SIDS.

Abstract
Purpose To characterize the nanoparticle of antroquinonol from A. cinnamomea and its ameliorative effects on the reproductive dysfunction in the diabetic male rat. Material and Methods The chitosan-silicate nanoparticle was used as the carrier for the delivery of antroquinonol from solid-state-cultured A. cinnamomea extract (AC). The rats were fed with a high-fat diet and intraperitoneally injected with streptozotocin to induce diabetes. The rats were daily oral gavage by water [Diabetes (DM) and Control groups], three different doses of chitosan-silicate nanoparticle of antroquinonol from solid-state-cultured A. cinnamomea (nano-SAC, NAC): (DM+NAC1x, 4 mg/kg of body weight; DM+NAC2x, 8 mg/kg; and DM+NAC5x, 20 mg/kg), solid-state-cultured AC (DM+AC5x, 20 mg/kg), or metformin (DM+Met, 200 mg/kg) for 7 weeks. Results The nano-SAC size was 37.68±5.91 nm, the zeta potential was 4.13±0.49 mV, encapsulation efficiency was 79.29±0.77%, and loading capacity was 32.45±0.02%. The nano-SAC can improve diabetes-induced reproductive dysfunction by regulating glucose, insulin, and oxidative enzyme and by increasing the level of testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and sperm count as well as sperm mobility. In testicular histopathology, the seminiferous tubules of A. cinnamomea-supplemented diabetic rats showed similar morphology with the control group. Conclusion The nanoparticle of antroquinonol from Antrodia cinnamomea can be used as an effective strategy to improve diabetes-induced testicular dysfunction.

Abstract
PURPOSE Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with microbial accumulation. The purpose of this study was to reuse the agricultural waste to produce cellulose nanofibers (CNF) and further modification of the CNF with κ-carrageenan oligosaccharides (CO) for drug delivery. In addition, this study is focused on the antimicrobial activity of surfactin-loaded CO-CNF towards periodontal pathogens. MATERIALS AND METHODS A chemo-mechanical method was used to extract the CNF and the modification was done by using CO. The studies were further proceeded by adding different quantities of surfactin [50 mg (50 SNPs), 100 mg (100 SNPs), 200 mg (200 SNPs)] into the carrier (CO-CNF). The obtained materials were characterized, and the antimicrobial activity of surfactin-loaded CO-CNF was evaluated. RESULTS The obtained average size of CNF and CO-CNF after ultrasonication was 263 nm and 330 nm, respectively. Microscopic studies suggested that the CNF has a short diameter with long length and CO became cross-linked to form as beads within the CNF network. The addition of CO improved the degradation temperature, crystallinity, and swelling property of CNF. The material has a controlled drug release, and the entrapment efficiency and loading capacity of the drug were 53.15 ± 2.36% and 36.72 ± 1.24%, respectively. It has antioxidant activity and inhibited the growth of periodontal pathogens such as Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis by preventing the biofilm formation, reducing the metabolic activity, and promoting the oxidative stress. CONCLUSION The study showed the successful extraction of CNF and modification with CO improved the physical parameters of the CNF. In addition, surfactin-loaded CO-CNF has potential antimicrobial activity against periodontal pathogens. The obtained biomaterial is economically valuable and has great potential for biomedical applications.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a major health problem that affects a patient's life quality throughout the world due to its worst complications. It was recognized that chronic hyperglycemia with oxidative stress was the major cause of male infertility. Echinacea purpurea ethanol extract (EE) contains phenolic acid and isobutylamides had been proven to ameliorate diabetic complications. Chitosan/silica nanoparticles are well-known in the medicinal field because of its controlled release and drug delivery properties. This study was aimed at investigating whether the EE encapsulated chitosan/silica nanoparticle (nano-EE) can enhance the amelioration of male infertility. Our results indicated that the average size of nano-EE was 218 ± 42 nm with an encapsulation efficiency of 66.9% and loading capacity of 39.9%. The reduction in oxidative stress and antioxidant activity of nano-EE was observed in LC-540 cells. In in vivo experiment, 33 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ) was used to induce diabetes in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Diabetic rats were treated with nano (465 mg/kg), nano-EE 1 (93mg/kg), nano-EE3 (279mg/kg), nano-EE5 (465 mg/kg), and metformin (Met) (200 mg/kg) for 7 weeks. The results show that the nano-EE5 can improve hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and plasma fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF 21) resistance. It was also confirmed that nano-EE5 significantly improved the testis tissue structure, increasing sperm quality and DNA integrity as well as reducing reactive oxygen species level.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the genetic characterization of glycoprotein M(gM.),glycoprotein L(gL) of varicella zoster virus. Methods: According to the program of "Ministry of Science and Technology of China" , Based on the 12 suspected VZV patients monitored in Beijing (1 case), Shanghai (5 cases), Jilin (2 cases), Qinghai (1 case), Guangdong (2 case) and Sichuan (case) in 2007-2015. A total of 12 Vesicle fluid and throat swab samples were collected. Positive samples were identified by Agarose gel electrophoresis and two glycoprotein genes were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Nucleotide sequences were determined and analyzed by PCR amplification of VZV positive specimens V-OKA-BK of the domestic varicella attenuated live vaccine and the Varilrix-1 of the imported attenuated live vaccine. Nucleotide sequences of VZV positive specimens, vaccine strains (V-OKA-BK, varilrix-1) and GenBank foreign wild strains (41 strains), parent strains (P-oka), vaccine strains (V-oka, Varilrix, Varivax) were compared using BioEdit and MEGA 5.0. Results: 12 specimens were VZV positive. Compared with the vaccine strains and the parent strains, the GM gene of 1 positive specimen had radical mutation at 86686 sites, which resulted in amino acid mutation, 5 positive specimens had base mutation at 87844 sites, and 30 strains of foreign wild strains had the same variation at 87 844 sites. 1 positive specimens of gL gene in 101245 sites had base mutation, and led to amino acid mutation, 6 positive specimens at 101624, 101625, 101626 sites had base of loss and the foreign wild strains in these 3 sites had the same variation. Compared with the vaccine strains, the nucleotide and amino acid homology of gM of 12 VZV positive specimens were 99.2%-100% and 98.2%-100%, respectively, and gL of those were 99.3%-100% and 98.6%-100%, respectively. Compared with 41 strains of foreign wild strains, homology of gM's nucleotides and amino acid were 99.3%-100% and 98.5%-100%, respectively; 99.1%-100% and 98.6%-100% for gL. The results of phylogenetic analysis showed that 7 VZV positive samples were on the same branch with 4 vaccine strains and p-oka strain. Based on gL, 12 VZV positive samples were on the same branch as the vaccine strains and p-oka strain. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the genes of gM, gL are highly conserved and remain stable immunogen, which may be involved in the attenuation of VZV and need to be further researched.

Abstract
A large amount of back streaming electrons will bring about a part of current drain on power supply, cause sparking or high-voltage breakdowns, and affect the neutron yield and waveform for a compact sealed-tube pulsed neutron generator. A novel idea which uses a ZnO varistor to provide a constant self-biased voltage to suppress the secondary electrons is introduced. The I-V curve for the ZnO varistor was measured in the experiment. The effects of suppressing the secondary electrons were investigated using a ZnO varistor, linear resistors, and an independent power supply, respectively. The results show that the secondary electrons are suppressed effectively by the compact ZnO varistor, while not increasing the size and the component of the device. It is a promising design for compact sealed-tube neutron generators.

Abstract
Axial symmetry of discharge is very important for application of vacuum arc plasma. It is discovered that the triggering method is a significant factor that would influence the symmetry of arc discharge at the final stable stage. Using high-speed multiframe photography, the transition processes from cathode-trigger discharge to cathode-anode discharge were observed. It is shown that the performances of the two triggering methods investigated are quite different. Arc discharge triggered by independent electric source can be stabilized at the center of anode grid, but it is difficult to achieve such good symmetry through resistance triggering. It is also found that the triggering process is highly correlated to the behavior of emitted electrons.

Abstract
We have investigated the lasing characteristics of Tm:LSO crystal in three operation regimes: continuous wave (CW), wavelength tunable and passive Q-switching based on graphene. In CW regime, a maximum output power of 0.65 W at 2054.9 nm with a slope efficiency of 21% was achieved. With a quartz plate, a broad wavelength tunable range of 145 nm was obtained, corresponding to a FWHM of 100 nm. By using a graphene saturable absorber mirror, the passively Q-switched Tm:LSO laser produced pulses with duration of 7.8 μs at 2030.8 nm under a repetition rate of 7.6 kHz, corresponding to pulse energy of 14.0 μJ.

Abstract
To identify complementary laboratory indices for determining the disease status of patients with hepatitis B virus. Subjects were divided into six groups: hepatitis B virus carrier, mild chronic hepatitis B, moderate chronic hepatitis B, severe chronic hepatitis B, fulminant hepatitis B and healthy controls. Serum alanine aminotransferase, total bilirubin and direct bilirubin were measured by an automatic analyser. The levels of T-cell immunoglobulin domain and mucin-domain-containing molecule-3, macrophage inflammatory protein 2, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and inducible nitric oxide synthase were measured by ELISA. T-cell immunoglobulin domain, mucin-domain-containing molecule-3, macrophage inflammatory protein 2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase levels were significantly higher in patients with severe chronic hepatitis B compared with those in patients with mild and moderate chronic hepatitis B or fulminant hepatitis B (P < 0.05). When normal or abnormal alanine aminotransferase was present, significant differences between macrophage inflammatory protein 2 and T-cell immunoglobulin domain and mucin-domain-containing molecule-3 levels between patients with mild, moderate, severe chronic hepatitis B or fulminant hepatitis B were observed (P < 0.05). Our results suggest that T-cell immunoglobulin domain and mucin-domain-containing molecule-3 and macrophage inflammatory protein 2 could serve as alanine aminotransferase, direct bilirubin or total bilirubin complementary indices for determining the status of patients with hepatitis B.

Abstract
In this paper, the spontaneous Raman spectra and second harmonic generation (SHG) properties at 589 nm of a novel Raman crystal BaTeMo(2)O(9) (BTM) were investigated. The BTM crystal was cut along the type-II SHG phase-matching direction for the first-order Raman shift at 1178 nm to realize the SRS and SHG simultaneously. Pumped by a nanosecond 1064 nm laser source, a self-frequency-doubled BTM Raman laser operating at 589 nm has been demonstrated for the first time. At the pump pulse energy of 48 mJ, the maximum yellow laser output pulse energy of 5.6 mJ was obtained with an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 11.7%. Our results show that BTM crystal is one of the promising candidate Raman materials to generate yellow laser radiation.

Abstract
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is associated with postweaning multisystemic syndrome in pigs, whereas the ubiquitous related porcine circovirus type 1 (PCV1) is nonpathogenic. Corroborating an earlier observation in PCV2, Rep and Rep' proteins encoded by ORF1 are essential for the initiation of PCV2 replication. Cap protein encoded by ORF2 has a potential causative role in the initiation of PCV2 replication and contains a type-specific epitope. The putative ORF3 of PCV2 oriented in the opposite direction within ORF1 is unknown. In this study, ORF3-encoding protein of PCV2 was expressed in vitro as a fusion protein (GST-ORF3 protein), and monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) to the PCV2-ORF3-encoding protein were generated and biologically characterized. The mRNA transcript of ORF3 was characterized during a productive infection in PK-15 cells, and the PCV2 infectious DNA clone lacking ORF3 was constructed. GST-ORF3 protein, with an approximate molecular weight of 37.7 kDa, was obtained from the Escherichia coli transformed with the recombinant vector pGEX-4T-1-F3 after codon optimization of ORF3 DNA sequence. Four MAbs reacted strongly to the ORF3-encoding protein expressed in PK-15 cells in immunohistochemical staining. The mRNA transcript of ORF3 was confirmed in RT-PCR, Northern blot, and sequencing analyses. The progeny PCV2 virions were not revealed in the PK-15 cells transfected by the PCV2 infectious DNA clone without ORF3. These results demonstrate that the ORF3 of PCV2 can be transcribed and expressed and that ORF3-encoding protein plays a pivotal role in viral replication.

Abstract
We have demonstrated a laser-diode pumped continuous-wave (CW) and passively Q-switched laser with a Nd:Sc(0.2)Y(0.8)SiO(5) (Nd:SYSO) crystal for the first time. In the CW operation, the laser was found to oscillate in tri-wavelength regime at 1074.8 nm, 1076.6 nm and 1078.2 nm, respectively. The maximum CW output power of 1.96 W was obtained, giving an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 35% and a slope efficiency of 39%. Using either Cr(4+):YAG or V(3+):YAG crystal as saturable absorber, stable passively Q-switched laser was obtained at dual-wavelength of 1074.8 nm and 1078.2 nm with orthogonal-polarization. The maximum average output power, pulse repetition rate, and shortest pulse width were 1.03 W, 50 kHz, and 24 ns, respectively. The passively Q-switched dual-wavelength laser could be potentially used as a source for generation of terahertz radiation.

Abstract
We have characterized the uterine expression of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) during early pregnancy in mice and determined whether a folate-deficient diet (FDD) can affect DNMTs in this context. Within endometrial cells, expressions of DNMT (cytosine-5) 1 (Dnmt1), Dnmt3a, and Dnmt3b were significantly elevated during the prereceptive phase of pregnancy but generally returned to baseline levels during receptive and postimplantation periods. As such, the transcription of DNMT genes is temporally regulated during early pregnancy. When comparisons were made between implantation sites (IS) and inter-IS on day 5 of pregnancy, lower levels of Dnmt3a were detected at IS. Comparisons between IS and inter-IS did not reveal significant expression differences for other DNMT genes. When tissue sections were examined, DNMT3A was specifically lower in the stroma of IS. Reduced DNMT1 and DNMT3B levels were also observed in the luminal and glandular epithelia of IS, whereas no obvious differences in the stroma were detected. In pseudo-pregnant mice subjected to a FDD, levels of Dnmt1 and Dnmt3a (but not Dnmt3b) were significantly upregulated in endometrial tissues, as compared with controls. When tissues from these folate-deficient mice were examined, DNMT1 levels were elevated in both the luminal and glandular epithelia, whereas DNMT3A was upregulated in the luminal epithelium and the stroma. A slight increase in DNMT3B levels was detected in the glandular epithelium. These results indicate that DNMTs may regulate the transcription of endometrial genes associated with embryo implantation and that levels of DNMTs are affected by dietary folate in mice.

Abstract
Little is known about the influences of other porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) proteins on the immunogenicity of Cap protein. Here we constructed plasmids expressing the ORF1 (pORF1) and ORF3 (pORF3) of PCV2, and mixed either of them with the plasmid expressing ORF2 (pORF2) as combined DNA vaccines, to compare their immunogenicity and protective efficacy. Our data revealed that pORF1 reduced the Cap-specific CD8(+)cell frequency, and both pORF1 and pORF3 attenuated the Cap-specific Th1 and post-challenge-recall VN antibody responses induced by the pORF2 plasmid, despite successful induction of Rep and ORF3 antibodies by pORF1 and pORF3, respectively. Subsequently, protocols with pORF1 or pORF3 showed significantly decreased protective efficacy compared to pORF2 alone. Overall, our data suggested that the ORF1- and ORF3-encoded Rep and ORF3 proteins may interfere with the cellular, humoral and protective immunity of the ORF2-encoded Cap protein in vivo.

Abstract
We report on a noniterative method for coherent diffractive imaging based on a specially designed multipinhole (MP) plate. We demonstrated that the complex amplitude of the wavefront penetrating through an MP plate inserted between the specimen and the detector plane can be directly extracted from the Fourier transform of a single far-field diffraction intensity pattern without need of any iterative algorithm. A form of scanning diffractive imaging based on a rotatable MP plate is also demonstrated, which provides a feasible approach for lensless diffractive imaging of complex-valued objects.

Abstract
The protective immune response against porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) infection in mice was characterized using flow cytometric analysis (FCM), assays of antibody (of different IgG isotypes) and viraemia, and histopathological examination. An open reading frame 2 plasmid (pORF2) and the capsid protein (Cap) of PCV2 were used as DNA and subunit vaccines, respectively. In FCM analysis, although pORF2 and Cap alone showed comparable efficacy in eliciting lymphoproliferative responses and Cap-specific CD4+ T cells, pORF2 was superior to the Cap protein in triggering CD8+ T cells. A virus neutralization assay showed that pORF2 evoked stronger recall virus-neutralizing (VN) antibody responses than the Cap protein on PCV2 challenge. Correspondingly, VN antibody kinetics coincided with those of Cap-specific IgG2a, but not with the kinetics of IgG and IgG1. Following virus challenge, real-time PCR and histopathological analysis confirmed that only low viral DNA loads and mild microscopic lesions appeared in pORF2-immunized mice. These findings indicate that CD8+ T cells and VN antibody responses correlating mainly with Cap-specific IgG2a play crucial roles in protecting against PCV2 infection, and that the protective immunity induced by the pORF2 plasmid is superior to that induced by the PCV2 Cap protein.

Abstract
We demonstrate a high-power red-green-blue laser source based on the quasi-phase-matching and intermittent oscillating dual-wavelength laser technique. A cascaded LiTaO3 superlattice was used to achieve the generation of red light at 660 nm, green light at 532 nm, and blue light at 440 nm to obtain the output of red-green-blue laser light from a diode-side-pumped Q-switched intermittent oscillating dual-wavelength Nd:YAG laser. The average output power of red-green-blue of 1.01 W was achieved under the total fundamental power of 5.1 W, which corresponds to the conversion efficiency of 20%.

Abstract
A new type of conical second-harmonic generation was discovered in a 2D chi((2)) photonic crystal-a hexagonally poled LiTaO3 crystal. It reveals the presence of another type of nonlinear interaction-a scattering involved optical parametric generation in a nonlinear medium. Such a nonlinear interaction can be significantly enlarged in a modulated chi((2)) structure by a quasi-phase-matching process. The conical beam records the spatial distribution of the scattering signal and discloses the structure information and symmetry of the 2D chi((2)) photonic crystal.

Abstract
5th instar silkworms were infected with recombinant baculovirus containing phytase gene or wild type BmNPV at 48 hr after ecdysis, then treated with 100 ppm Juvenile hormone. It showed that the expression level of phytase gene and polyhedrin gene per silkworm was increased by 30% and 40%, respectively. The LT50 was lengthened for more than 4 h, and the average weight of sick silkworm was increased by 10%. The results indicated that the improvement of expression efficiency of phytase gene and polyhedrin gene was mainly caused by longer time of virus replication in silkworm after the treatment of Juvenile hormone.

Abstract
By cloning vp1 and vp2 genes of chicken anaemia virus into transfer vector pBacPAK8, recombinant transfer plasmids pBac-vp1 and pBac-vp2 were obtained. Then BmN cells were co-transfected with linearized baculovirus Bm-BacPAK6 DNA and above two recombinant plasmids respectively, recombinant viruses Bm-vp1 and Bm-vp2 were constructed and used to co-infect silkworms to express recombinant proteins. The results indicated that recombinant VP1 and VP2 could induce the corresponding antibody in chickens using immunofluorescence assay and the expression products could protect filial generation from the attack of CAV. Recombinant BmNPV expressing VP1 and VP2 is, therefore, a great hopeful production system for a subunit vaccine against CAV infection.

Abstract
The atmospheric deposition of mercury including total gas phase mercury (TGM), gas phase divalent mercury (Hg2+), and gas phase monomethyl mercury (MMHg) was investigated. Samples were collected from central cities and nature reserve areas across the province. Techniques and equipment including moss bags, KCl-coated denuder and GARDIS-1A portable mercury vapor analyzer were employed for sample collection and analysis. The reliability of techniques and analytical methods used for the project was evaluated. The deposition of atmospheric mercury was reported in species in this important mercury polluted province for the first time. The spatial and temporal variability of mercury emissions were investigated and reported. Contribution of coal mercury emissions to the atmosphere mercury deposition of the province was also investigated.

Abstract
In an attempt to assess the relationship between lipid abnormalities and severity of coronary artery disease, we measured serum levels of cholesterol (SC), triglycerides (TG), phospholipids (SP), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and high density lipoprotein phospholipids (HDL-P), in 217 men undergoing diagnostic coronary arteriography. We found significantly higher mean values of HDL-P and HDL-C in men with normal coronaries, but no significant differences in the other measured lipids. While there was no significant difference in HDL-C among patients with one, two or three-vessel disease, there was a negative correlation between HDL-P levels and the severity of the disease. These observations suggest that prospective studies would be of merit to establish the relevance of HDL-P in the development of coronary artery disease.

Abstract
The genotoxic effects of X-ray radiation on human lymphocytes were measured using the single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) assay (comet assay) and the cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus (CBMN) test; both were carried out in vitro on isolated human lymphocytes in order to compare the relationship and sensitivity of these two detecting methods. The radiation-doses were 0.00, 0.02, 0.05, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, 1.00 and 2.00 Gy. In the comet assay, the average comet length (38.6+/-0.8 microm) of 0.05 Gy was significantly longer than that (29.4+/-1.1 microm) of 0 Gy (P<0.01), moreover, the average comet length increased with the dose of X-ray radiation. In the CBMN, both the average micronucleus rate (MN) and micronucleated cell rate (MNC) of 0.05 Gy were 11.5+/-4.5 per thousand, which showed no difference with that (7.5+/-0.5 per thousand) of 0 Gy (P>0.05). The lowest dose, which induced significant increase of average MN and MNC, was 0.25 Gy. The average MN and MNC rates increased with radiation-dose. The results showed that there was correlation between SCGE and CBMN, and the sensitivity of SCGE was significantly higher than that of CBMN.

BACKGROUND In certain situations, successful topical therapy of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) without the inconvenience, risk, and expense of surgery would be of great value to patients. Placing 5-fluorouracil (FU) in an appropriate carrier may solve these problems. Phosphatidyl choline (PC) penetrates effectively throughout the epidermis of shaved rabbits and may be able to carry small water-soluble molecules such as nucleotides across lipid barriers when applied topically. OBJECTIVE We propose that employing PC as a vehicle will facilitate the penetration of 5-FU and increase efficacy as compared to petrolatum-based 5-FU cream. METHODS This pilot study is a double-blinded and randomized therapeutic trial. Thirteen patients with 17 biopsy-proven, moderate thickness BCCs were randomized to receive either cream A (5% 5-FU in a PC vehicle) or cream B (Efudex(R): 5% 5-FU in a petrolatum base). Patients applied cream A or cream B twice a day for 4 weeks. The patients underwent an excisional biopsy of the treated BCC site at week 16. RESULTS There was a 90% cure rate (9/10) in those lesions treated with 5% 5-FU in PC cream and a 57% cure rate (4/7) in those treated with 5% 5-FU in a petrolatum-based cream. CONCLUSION Although the study was unable to detect any statistically significant differences in outcome between the study groups, this small pilot study shows preliminary findings which may indicate an increase in the short-term eradication of BCC using a PC-based vehicle as compared to conventional petrolatum-based formulations.

Abstract
The micronuclei (MN) of peripheral blood lymphocytes from radiation-exposed people were monitored with the binucleated lymphocyte micronucleus assay (CBMN). MN rates in people with radiation-disease, radiation exposed and a control group were 12.57/1000, 4.20/1000 and 3.26/1000, respectively. The MN rate of patients with radiation-disease was significantly higher than those of other groups (P < 0.01). The difference between the radiation-exposed group and control group was not significant (P > 0.05). Meanwhile, chromosome aberrations (CA) of 3 groups were determined. The results were similar to those seen while the MN assay. CA rates were 2.06%, 0.93% and 0.69%, respectively. CA rate of the radiation-disease group was significantly higher than that of other groups (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). The difference between the radiation-exposed group and the control group was not significant (P > 0.05). The study indicates that the CBMN assay is a rapid, sensitive and accurate method which can be used to monitor a large population exposed to radiation.

Abstract
Cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus assay was applied as a biological dosimeter to detect abnormalities in human peripheral lymphocytes of thirteen students exposed to formaldehyde (FA) during a 12-week (10 h per week) anatomy class. Breathing-zone air samples collected during dissection procedures showed a mean concentration of 2.37 ppm (3.17 mg/m3). Ten students from the same school but without FA exposure served as controls. Chromosome aberrations (CA) and sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) were detected in both groups. The micronuclei (MN) rate (6.38 +/- 2.50 /1000) and CA rate (5.92 +/- 2.40%) in the FA-exposed group showed a significant increase (P < 0.01) when compared with those of the controls (3.15 +/- 1.46 /1000 and 3.40 +/- 1.57% respectively). A correlation between MN and CA in individuals was observed. SCE in the exposed group were also increased (P < 0.05), but not so greatly as MN or CA. The results indicated that FA might damage the chromosomes of human lymphocytes.

Abstract
The action of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) and related inflammatory mediators on the formation of hypoxic pulmonary arterial hypertension was studied. 30 Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into three groups at random: normal control group, hypoxic group and the group pretreated with dexamethasone plus hypoxia. The pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) was measured by inserting a microcatheter into the pulmonary artery. After 30 min of hypoxia, the activity of PLA2, platelet activating factor (PAF), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and thromboxane B2 (TXB2) were measured in blood and lung tissue, and it was found that the mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP), the PLA2 activity, PGE2, TXB2 and PAF in blood and lung tissue were significantly increased; but pretreatment with dexamethasone relieved the changes mentioned above. In hypoxia, a positive correlations was found between the PLA2 activity and mPAP, PAF, PGE2, TXB2 respectively; positive correlations were also found between PAF, PGE2, TXB2 and mPAP. In conclusion, PLA2 induced the release of inflammation mediators, which may play roles in the formation of the acute hypoxic pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Abstract
To test possible hypocholesterolemic and antiatherogenic effects of transdermally administered phosphatidylcholine (PC), we applied a 33% solution of PC in ethanol containing 0.01% butylated hydroxytoluene as antioxidant, to the shaved back of a strain of inbred rabbits which spontaneously developed hypercholesterolemia (serum cholesterol above 110 mg/dl) and severe atherosclerotic lesions especially in the aortic arch. After the topical application of PC, increases of choline-containing phospholipids in blood were observed, reaching a plateau in 24-48 hr. There were significant reductions in serum cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in the treated animals 2-3 weeks after the treatment. Atherosclerotic lesions in the aortic arch were clearly less severe in the animals repeatedly treated with topical PC. The hypocholesterolemic and antiatherogenic effects of topical PC could be the result of increased cholesterol efflux from extrahepatic tissues and enhanced reverse cholesterol transport.

Abstract
A micro method is described for the assay of choline-containing phospholipids in serum and high density lipoproteins (HDL) using an automated microtiter plate reader. The method is adapted from the enzymic method of Takayama, Itoh, Nagasaki, and Tanimuzu (Clin. Chim. Acta 79, 93-98, 1977) using phospholipase D, choline oxidase, and peroxidase coupled with the color generating system phenol and 4-amino-antipyrine. The micro method requires 5 microL of serum or HDL sample, and 42 samples can be assayed in duplicate in one run using a 96-well flat-bottom microtiter plate. The reaction is linear up to 400 mg/dL and the lower limit of detection is 0.25 mg of choline-containing phospholipids per assay. The coefficient of variation within an assay is 0.86-0.79%, and day-to-day variation is 0.9-1.5%. Results obtained by the micro method are in excellent agreement with those obtained by the procedure of Takayama et al. (r = 0.997). The supernatant left after removal of low density lipoproteins and very low density lipoproteins from serum and precipitation with heparin/manganese chloride reagent can thus be conveniently used for the micro assay of choline phospholipids in HDL.

Abstract
From 1984 to 1990, 6 patients with histologically and hormone assay proved ectopic ACTH syndrome were treated. All these lesions occurred in the chest: 4 thymic carcinoids and the other 2 bronchial carcinoids. The patients all had Cushing's syndrome. Treatment consisted of operation plus radiotherapy. The results showed four completely relieved, one improved and is alive with tumor for 4 years and the other relieved for 2 years and 8 months, then died of local recurrence. The indications, dose and method of radiotherapy are discussed.

Abstract
After intravenous injection of liposomes prepared from egg yolk phospholipids into rabbits, the phospholipids were readily assimilated by the lipoproteins, and there were increases in the circulating levels of cholesterol and phospholipids. The increases in cholesterol level were mainly due to increases of free cholesterol. Gradient ultracentrifugation showed that the lipoproteins decreased in density, and gel filtration chromatography showed that they increased in particle size. Upon electrophoresis, they exhibited slower mobility. Liposomes recovered from rabbits 3 hr after the injection contained free cholesterol, apolipoproteins A-I, E and traces of C. The apolipoprotein may target the liposomes for uptake by hepatocytes. Incubation of the liposomes with rabbit red blood cell membranes in vitro caused a decrease in cholesterol content of the membranes. However, the cholesterol/phosphate ratio in red blood cells isolated from the rabbits after the injection of liposomes did not change significantly, suggesting rapid replenishment of red blood cell cholesterol in vivo, possibly by equilibration with lipoprotein cholesterol or tissue cholesterol. These results suggest that the injection of phospholipid liposomes may have an antiatherogenic effect by the removal of tissue cholesterol and enhancing hepatic disposal of cholesterol through the reverse cholesterol transport mechanism.
