Abstract
BACKGROUND Adiponectin is an anti-inflammatory cytokine secreted by adipose tissue, has been associated with adiposity and cardiometabolic risk, and has controversial results with muscular fitness. The aim of this study was to analyze the interaction of 1-minute abdominal test in the relationship between adiposity, body composition, cardiometabolic risk and adiponectin concentration in adolescents. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 62 adolescents of both sexes, aged 11 to 16 years, approved by the Ethics Committee of Research in Humans (CAEE: 62963916.0.0000.5223). Body mass, height, abdominal circumference (AC), waist circumference (WC), fat mass (FM), fat-free mass (FFM), high density lipoprotein (HDL-c), low density lipoprotein (LDL-c), triglycerides (TG), adiponectin, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and mean blood pressure (MBP), 1-minute abdominal test (ABD) were measured. Body mass index (BMI), z-score BMI (BMI-z), triponderal mass index (TMI), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were calculated. The macro PROCESS for SPSS v.24.0 was used for moderation analyses, with linear regression models. RESULTS Inverse interactions were found for adiposity (BMI, BMI-z, TMI, AC, WC, WHtR), body composition (FM, FFM) and CMRF (SBP, DBP, MBP, TG) versus 1-minute abdominal test with adiponectin concentration, demonstrating that abdominal test is a moderator in these relationships. CONCLUSION We conclude that 1-minute abdominal test may play an important role in the relationship between obesity and cardiometabolic risk. We found that muscular fitness can confer a protective effect on adolescents with high levels of abdominal test.

Abstract
The aims of the study were to examine the moderating role of physical activity in the relationship between cardiometabolic risk factors and adiponectin concentration in adolescents. This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 96 adolescents of both sexes, between 11 and 17 years old. Body mass, height, fat mass (FM), fat-free mass, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein (LDL-c), triglycerides, insulin, adiponectin, C-reactive protein, and level of physical activity (energy expenditure questionnaire) were measured. Body mass index (BMI), triponderal mass index (TMI), homeostasis model to assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (QUICKI) were calculated. Macro-PROCESS for SPSS was used for moderation analyses. Direct interactions were found for BMI, TMI, FM, insulin, and HOMA-IR and inverse for LDL-c, and QUICKI. Protection against cardiometabolic risk was found when the PA-coeff was completed above 1.57 coeff (BMI), 1.62 coeff (TMI), 1.55 coeff (FM), 1.41 coeff (LDL-c)1.60 coeff (insulin), 1.59 coeff (HOMA-IR) and 1.35 coeff (QUICKI). We conclude that physical activity was a moderator in the relationship with adiposity, insulin resistance and sensitivity, LDL-c, and adiponectin. In this context, we evidenced a relevant clinical impact on the health of adolescents, demonstrating the interaction between anthropometrics variables and physical activity.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effect and individual responsiveness after 12 weeks of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity of continuous training (MICT) on adiponectin, cardiometabolic risk factors and physical fitness in overweight adolescents. This study was participated by 52 adolescents, both sexes, 11 and 16 years old, separated into HIIT (n = 13), MICT (n = 15), and control group (CG, n = 24). Body mass, height, waist circumference (WC), fat mass (FM), fat-free mass (FFM), blood pressure, high-density lipoprotein (HDL-c), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-c), triglycerides, glucose, insulin, adiponectin, and C-reactive protein (CRP) were evaluated. Body mass index z-score (BMI-z), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), insulin resistance, and insulin sensitivity were calculated. Resting heart rate (HRrest), peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak), right handgrip strength (HGS-right), left handgrip strength (HGS-left), and abdominal resistance (ABD) was evaluated. HIIT session lasted around 35 min and MICT of 60 min of exercises on stationary bicycle, three times a weekday for 12 weeks. ANOVA, effect size, and prevalence of responders were used for statistical analysis. HIIT reduced BMI-z, WHtR, LDL-c, and CRP, while increased of physical fitness. MICT reduced HDL-c, while increased of physical fitness. CG reduced FM, HDL-c, and CRP, while increased FFM and HRrest. Frequencies of respondents in HIIT were observed for CRP, VO2peak, HGS-right, and HGS-left. Frequencies of respondents in MICT were observed for CRP and HGS-right. Frequencies of no-respondents in CG were observed for WC, WHtR, CRP, HRrest, and ABD. Conclusion: Interventions with exercises were effective to adiposity, metabolic health, and physical fitness improvements. Individual responses were observed in inflammatory process and physical fitness, important changes in overweight adolescent's therapy. Trial registration number and date of registration: This study was registered with the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (REBEC), the number RBR-6343y7, date of registration May 3, 2017. What is Known: • Effect of regular physical exercise positively affects overweight, comorbidities, and metabolic diseases, recommended mainly for children and adolescents. What is New: • Due to the great inter-individual variability, the same stimulus can provide different responses; adolescents who benefit from the stimulus are considered responsive. • Intervention of HIIT and MICT did not alter the concentrations of adiponectin; however, the adolescents presented responsiveness to the inflammatory process and physical fitness.

Abstract
This study aimed to develop new prediction models from directly determined peak of oxygen uptake (VO2peak) in adolescents using 20-metre shuttle run test (20 m-SR) and to compare the new models with previously published equations. This study included 148 adolescents (43% girls), aged 13.37 ± 1.84 years old. Adolescents were randomly assigned to validation (n = 91) and cross-validation (n = 57) groups. VO2peak was measured using a gas analyser in both maximal exercise tests in the laboratory as well as by 20 m-SR. The multiple linear regression method was applied to develop the models using BMI, BMI-z score and body fat percentage (%FM). The proposed models presented better predictive performance (R2 = 75.6% to 78.9%) and a lower absolute percentage error (%error = 10.51 to 11.78%) than the previously published equations (R2 = 38.8% to 69.1%; %error = 13.13% to 21.54%). The Model with BMI-z was the best fit equation in girls, and the model with BMI-z and %FM in boys. Therefore, it is recommended that the equations developed in the present study be used in future research and projects in the school environment to estimate VO2peak in adolescents by the 20 m-SR test.

Abstract

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study evaluates melanoma characteristics in the elderly. METHODS A retrospective descriptive analytical study was carried out by reviewing the medical records of patients aged 60 years or older, diagnosed with primary cutaneous melanoma, and treated at Hospital Erasto Gaertner, Curitiba, Paraná, from 2013 to 2017. RESULTS We studied 139 patients aged 60-98 years (average, 70.3 years) and found melanoma to be more common in women (52.5%) than in men. Lesions mainly affected the limbs (32.3%) and head (24.4%), showed signs of ulceration (33.8%), and could be classified into the nodular histological (29%), extensive superficial (27%), and acral (12%) types. The average Breslow index was 1.2 mm. Metastasis occurred in 33% of the patients and mainly affected lymph nodes (36%) and the central nervous system (CNS, 20%). The first procedure conducted in 79% of the cases was surgical resection. Sentinel node mapping was carried out in 41.7% of the cases, and surgical treatment alone was indicated in 70% of the patients. The disease recurred in 34.5% of the patients, and 17.9% succumbed to the disease. These results indicate that the elderly have poorer prognosis when cancer treatment is delayed. CONCLUSION Melanoma of the limbs and head, intermediate Breslow index, metastatic lymph node and CNS metastases, and relapse result in fatal outcomes. Direct strategies, such as prevention and early detection, as well as uniform and adequate treatment, are needed to improve disease management in the elderly.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE to assess clinical and epidemiological factors of patients undergoing video cholecystectomy at the Hospital da Cruz Vermelha do Paraná, Curitiba unit, operated from September 2016 to September 2018, as well as the influence of comorbidities, sex and advanced age on the postoperative prognosis, while in the hospital. METHODS Analytic retrospective study. The analyzed variables were obtained by the review of medical records. Statistical analyses were performed considering the significance level p < 0.05. RESULTS 389 patients, of whom 265 were women and 124 men, were included. The mean age was 51.5 years, 58.8% of the patients were diagnosed with at least one comorbidity, and 74.6% were overweight or obese. The incidence of intraoperative complications was 1.3%, postoperative 3.8% and, mortality, 0.3%. Some risk factors were identified as worse postoperative prognosis, such as Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension, presence of one or more comorbidities and mainly, advanced age, which was related to longer hospitalization times (p < 0,001), need of intensive therapy (p < 0,001), conversion to open surgery (p = 0,003) and postoperative complications (p < 0,001). Furthermore, the male sex was predictive of longer hospitalization times (p = 0,003) and need of intensive therapy (p = 0,01). CONCLUSION the presence of comorbidities, male sex, and advanced age are predictive factors of bad prognosis for patients undergoing video laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Abstract
Summary Parkinsonism is characterized by bradykinesia with rigidity and/or resting tremor, in addition to non-motor symptoms, which include dermatological manifestations. The objective of this study is to evaluate the main dermatoses in patients with parkinsonism found at the Philanthropic Association of Curitiba - PR. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with the application of a questionnaire and dermatological evaluation of the patients. The sample consisted of 386 patients and was composed mainly by men (55.4%), between 60-74 years old (51.6%), with complete primary education (45.3%), disease diagnosis time between 5-10 years (35%) and in use of medication (96.6%). The most prevalent dermatoses were pigmented nevus (36.3%), warts (25.1%), actinic keratosis (22%), seborrheic keratosis (21.5%), seborrheic dermatitis (20.5%), and rosacea (19.2%). Among the 13 cases (3.4%) of malignant cutaneous neoplasms confirmed by biopsy, 2 were melanomas. Regarding patients’ sex, there was a higher prevalence of inflammatory dermatoses (OR 1.64, 95% CI 1.08-2.51, p = 0.025) and benign cutaneous neoplasms (OR 1.77, 95% CI 1.16-2.69, p = 0.01) in men. As to age, patients aged between 60-74 years had more pre-malignant skin lesions (OR 2.60, 95% CI 1.05-6.44, p <0.001) and seborrheic keratosis (OR 2.52, 95% CI 1.02-6.25, p = 0.001) and, in those older than 75 years, actinic keratosis was more frequent (OR 5.43, 95% CI 2.17-13.6, p <0.001). The results of the study show that it is fundamental to dermatologically evaluate and monitor these patients, aiming at diagnosis and early treatment of lesions, especially of skin cancer.

Abstract
Background Histological and mycological changes during itraconazole use have not been
totally established in chromoblastomycosis. Objectives To evaluate tissue modifications in chromoblastomycosis carriers under
itraconazole treatment. Methods A histological retrospective study of 20 cases of chromoblastomycosis seen at
the university hospital at the south of Brazil, during itraconazole 400 mg
daily treatment. Patients were classified into two groups: plaque or tumor
lesions, and underwent periodic evaluations every four months during three
years. Hematoxylin-eosin stain was used to analyze epidermal modifications,
inflammatory infiltrate and fibrosis, and Fontana-Masson stain for parasite
evaluation. Results Fontana-Masson stain was superior to hematoxylin-eosin stain in fungal count
in the epidermis (mean difference=0.14; p<0.05). The most distinct
mycosis tissue responses were registered in the dermis. Epidermal thinning,
granulomatous infiltrate decrease or disappearance, fibrosis increase and
quantitative/morphological changes occurred during treatment. Study limitations Patients could not be located to have their current skin condition
examined. Conclusion Parasitic and tissue changes verified in this study can reflect the
parasite-host dynamics under itraconazole action.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Occupational dermatitis affects the quality of life and productivity of
workers. Studies on the subject are scarce in Brazil. It is estimated that
the disease is underreported and that many affected patients do not seek
health care. OBJECTIVES To conduct an epidemiological analysis of occupational dermatitis notified
via SINAN in Brazil from January 2007 to December 2012; evaluate the profile
of patients assisted; and check the main etiological agents involved. METHODS We analyzed the compulsory notification forms of cases of occupational
dermatitis filled nationwide during January 2007 to December 2012. RESULTS During the study period 3027 cases of occupational dermatitis were notified
in Brazil. In 61.4% of cases patients were men aged between 35-49 years
(39.6%). The most described etiological agent was chromium (13.9%). The
location of the body most affected was the hands, with 28.4% of cases. The
construction sector is implicated in 28.7% of cases and domestic services by
18%. Allergic contact dermatitis is the most prevalent occupational
dermatitis (20.6%) and the region with the highest number of notifications
was the Midwest, with 376.4 cases per million inhabitants. CONCLUSIONS The profile of patients most affected by occupational dermatitis in Brazil
during the study period was: men with elementary school, aged between 20 and
49 years old and working in the construction industry. The most common
occupational dermatitis were allergic contact dermatitis caused by chromium
after years of exposure, being the hands and head the parts of the body most
affected.

Abstract
Abstract Objective : The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of the major skin diseases affecting obese individuals and their influence on physical activity. Methods : Relevant articles were identified by systematically searching PubMed from 2000 to 2014, using the descriptors "skin diseases" and "obesity", "skin disease" and "obesity", "skin diseases" and "physical activity", "skin disease" and "physical activity". The PEDro Scale (in Brazilian Portuguese) was used to rate the methodological quality of the studies. Results : A total of 320 articles were examined in the first phase. In the end, 11 articles met the proposed criteria and were included for analysis in the systematic review. We investigated cutaneous manifestations of diseases and classified them according to their effects under 5 categories: metabolic (n = 10), aesthetic (n = 7), inflammatory (n = 6), mechanical (n = 5) and infectious (n = 3). The most frequent dermatoses among obese were acanthosis nigricans, acrochordon (skin tags), stretch marks, plantar keratodermia, intertrigo, bacterial and fungal infections. Acanthosis nigricans was found to be the most important metabolic implication of obesity. Conclusion : Although neglected, skin lesions are common in obesity and have implications for physical activity because they cause pain, discomfort, friction, infection, inflammation, embarrassment, limitation or difficulty of movement. Strategies to promote skin health may result in a better integration of physical activity into routine therapy and improve the quality of life of obese individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Piercings are body embellishments commonly seen in young people, however their
inherent risk of infection and scarring disorders are less divulged. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence of body piercings among medical students and their
possible dermatologic consequences. METHODS Cross-sectional study with 58 medical students, by means of a structured
questionnaire covering socio-demographic characteristics, technical issues related
to the piercing and characteristics of the dermatologic complications. RESULTS The sample was predominantly female (86.2%), with mean age 24 ± 3 years. The
placement of the first piercing occurred during adolescence (median age 15),
without medical supervision (91.4%) or knowledge of parents/guardians (74%). Most
piercings were made of metal alloy/stainless steel, in a dumbbell model (51.7%),
inserted in the umbilical area (53.5%) or ear (41.4%), with frequent cutaneous
reactions in the first six months post-piercing. Hypertrophic scarring, pain,
swelling and infection (p<0.05) had significantly higher frequencies among
those with navel piercings. CONCLUSION Piercing insertion occurred during adolescence. Local inflammatory and infectious
reactions were common. Scarring disorders and dermatitis appeared in the long
term. There is need for preventive and educational activities, starting with those
in the academic environment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Road running is a growing sport. OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of
sports-related dermatoses among road runners. METHODS Cross-sectional study of 76 road runners. Assessment was performed by means
of a questionnaire, interview, and clinical examination. The chi-square and
linear trend tests were used for analysis. RESULTS Most athletes were men (61%), aged 38±11 years, who ran mid- or
long-distance courses (60.5%) for 45 to 60 minutes (79%), for a total of
25-64 km (42.1% ) or more than 65 km (18.4%) per week. The most prevalent
injuries were blisters (50%), chafing (42.1%), calluses (34.2%),
onychomadesis (31.5%), tinea pedis (18.4%), onychocryptosis (14.5%), and
cheilitis simplex (14.5%). Among athletes running >64 km weekly, several
conditions were significantly more frequent: calluses (p<0.04), jogger's
nipple (p<0.004), cheilitis simplex (p<0.05), and tinea pedis
(p<0.004). There was a significant association between the weekly running
distance and the probability of skin lesions. Of the athletes in our sample,
57% trained before 10 a.m., 86% wore clothing and accessories for sun
protection, 62% wore sunscreen, and 19.7% experienced sunburn. Traumatic and
environmental dermatoses are common in practitioners of this outdoor sport,
and are influenced by the weekly running distance. CONCLUSION In this group of athletes, rashes, blisters, sunburn, and nail disorders
were recurrent complaints regardless of running distance. Calluses,
athlete's foot, chapped lips, and jogger's nipple predominated in
individuals who ran longer routes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate habits of sun exposure and sun protection of pregnant women in a public hospital, to assess orientation about photo protection during the prenatal care, and to detect the presence of melasma and its impact on their quality of life. METHODS A descriptive cross sectional study conducted among women of 18 years old and older, after delivery, who participated in a program of prenatal care in the South Region of Brazil. The sample was non-probabilistic by convenience. Data collection occurred from July to August 2011 through direct interview using a structured questionnaire to obtain personal information and photo protection habits during pregnancy, skin assessment and photographic record of lesions through informed consent. The skin was classified per Fitzpatrick's phototypes and the melasma was diagnosed clinically. In the patients with melasma, the MELASQoL-PB version was applied. The analysis was performed using Statistica, version 8.0, and the significance level of p<0.05. RESULTS In the sample (109 mothers) predominated white women (60.6% phototype III), young (average age 24.4 years SD=6.1) and housewives (59.6%). The majority (80%) stayed exposed to sunlight for 1-2 hours per day between 10 am and 3 pm, and from those (72%) did not apply any photoprotection due to lack of sunscreen habit. Other physical means of sun protection were used by 15% of these patients. Information during prenatal care about the risks of sun exposure was reported by 34% of the mothers interviewed. There was a trend toward a significant association between prenatal guidance and daily use of sunscreen (p=0.088). About 20% of mothers had melasma. The average score MELASQol-PB (25) showed a negative impact on quality of life of these patients. CONCLUSION In these women, sun exposure occurred at inappropriate times, without proper guidance and without the use of an effective sunscreen. The mothers with melasma complained about the appearance of their skin, frustration and embarrassment.

Abstract

Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the occurrence of mycoses affecting the feet of soccer players and to compare this results with those in non-athlete individuals of the same age and sex. Initial evaluation consisted of a dermatological examination of the foot in 22 Chinese athletes, 83 Brazilian athletes and 24 Brazilian non-athletes. Scales of plantar skin, interdigital and subungual areas of the foot were collected for mycological examination (direct and culture). Nail clippings were obtained for histopathologic analysis. Tinea pedis was diagnosed more frequently among the non-athlete individuals. None of the Chinese athletes had tinea pedis alone. However, in this group onychomycosis was frequently higher when compared to the other groups. The fungal microbiota comprised Trichophyton rubrum (40%), Trichophyton mentagrophytes (36.4%) and Candida spp (20%). Candida spp was isolated only from Brazilian athletes. Results obtained with KOH wet mounts agreed with the results obtained in culture and with histopathologic examinations (50.5% vs 40.9%). The frequency of tinea pedis among soccer players was lower than the other groups in this study, possibly due to health education and professional feet care.
