Abstract
Arctic alpine species experience extended periods of cold and unpredictable conditions during flowering. Thus, often, alpine plants use both sexual and asexual means of reproduction to maximize fitness and ensure reproductive success. We used the arctic alpine perennial Arabis alpina to explore the role of prolonged cold exposure on adventitious rooting. We exposed plants to 4°C for different durations and scored the presence of adventitious roots on the main stem and axillary branches. Our physiological studies demonstrated the presence of adventitious roots after 21 weeks at 4°C saturating the effect of cold on this process. Notably, adventitious roots on the main stem developing in specific internodes allowed us to identify the gene regulatory network involved in the formation of adventitious roots in cold using transcriptomics. These data and histological studies indicated that adventitious roots in A. alpina stems initiate during cold exposure and emerge after plants experience growth promoting conditions. While the initiation of adventitious root was not associated with changes of DR5 auxin response and free endogenous auxin level in the stems, the emergence of the adventitious root primordia was. Using the transcriptomic data, we discerned the sequential hormone responses occurring in various stages of adventitious root formation and identified supplementary pathways putatively involved in adventitious root emergence, such as glucosinolate metabolism. Together, our results highlight the role of low temperature during clonal growth in alpine plants and provide insights on the molecular mechanisms involved at distinct stages of adventitious rooting.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Gastroduodenal perforation commonly due to spontaneous perforation of a pre-existing peptic ulcer is a surgical emergency. On laparotomy, approximately 60%-70% perforations are duodenal and 15%-20% gastric. The most prevalent etiology are Helicobacter pylori infection in 65%-70% and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) abuse in 30%-50% cases depending on the prevalence of H. pylori infection. We report here the autopsy findings in a 29-year-old male who collapsed suddenly in the emergency room of our hospital after a bout of massive hematemesis.

Abstract
Friedreich ataxia (FRDA) is a multisystemic, autosomal recessive disorder caused by homozygous GAA expansion mutation in the first intron of frataxin (FXN) gene. FXN is a mitochondrial protein critical for iron-sulfur cluster biosynthesis and deficiency impairs mitochondrial electron transport chain functions and iron homeostasis within the organelle. Currently, there is no effective treatment for FRDA. We have previously demonstrated that single infusion of wild-type hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) resulted in prevention of neurologic and cardiac complications of FRDA in YG8R mice, and rescue was mediated by FXN transfer from tissue engrafted, HSPC-derived microglia/macrophages to diseased neurons/myocytes. For a future clinical translation, we developed an autologous stem cell transplantation approach using CRISPR/Cas9 for the excision of the GAA repeats in FRDA patients' CD34+ HSPCs; this strategy leading to increased FXN expression and improved mitochondrial functions. The aim of the current study is to validate the efficiency and safety of our gene editing approach in a disease-relevant model. We generated a cohort of FRDA patient-derived iPSCs and isogenic lines that were gene edited with our CRISPR/Cas9 approach. iPSC derived FRDA neurons displayed characteristic apoptotic and mitochondrial phenotype of the disease, such as non-homogenous microtubule staining in neurites, increased caspase-3 expression, mitochondrial superoxide levels, mitochondrial fragmentation, and partial degradation of the cristae compared to healthy controls. These defects were fully prevented in the gene edited neurons. RNASeq analysis of FRDA and gene edited neurons demonstrated striking improvement in gene clusters associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in the isogenic lines. Gene edited neurons demonstrated improved ER-calcium release, normalization of ER stress response gene, XBP-1, and significantly increased ER-mitochondrial contacts that are critical for functional homeostasis of both organelles, as compared to FRDA neurons. Ultrastructural analysis for these contact sites displayed severe ER structural damage in FRDA neurons, that was undetected in gene edited neurons. Taken together, these results represent a novel finding for disease pathogenesis showing dramatic ER structural damage in FRDA, validate the efficacy profile of our FXN gene editing approach in a disease relevant model, and support our approach as an effective strategy for therapeutic intervention for Friedreich's ataxia.

Abstract
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) can cause vaginal dysbiosis that may influence general vaginal health and pregnancy complications. Balancing vaginal microbiome using Lactobacillus spp. may be a new way to prevent and treat mild BV. We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study aimed at evaluating the effect of the product VagiBIOM, a multi-Lactobacillus vaginal suppository, on peri- and premenopausal women with BV in restoring vaginal pH and overall vaginal health by resetting the vaginal microbiome composition. Sixty-six peri- and premenopausal women with BV symptoms were randomized with a 2:1 ratio to be treated with VagiBIOM or placebo suppositories. Vaginal pH, VAS itching score, total Nugent score, and vaginal health index (VHI) were measured. Vaginal microbiome changes before and after the treatment were analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis. After 4 weeks of intervention with VagiBIOM or a placebo, the mean score for vaginal pH, VAS itching, and total Nugent score was significantly decreased from the baseline. Compared to the baseline scores, the VHI scores improved significantly following 28-day intervention (p < 0.001). Our results revealed two Lactobacillus species, L. hamsteri, and L. helveticus, as indicator species occurring differentially in the VagiBIOM-treated group. Furthermore, the regression and species network analyses revealed significant bacterial associations after VagiBIOM treatment. Lactobacillus hamsteri was positively associated with the Nugent score and negatively associated with vaginal pH. L. iners and L. salivarius were positively and inversely associated with VHI. As is typical, Bacteroides fragilis was positively associated with vaginal pH and negatively associated with the Nugent score. Interestingly, the Lactobacillus spp. diversity improved after VagiBIOM treatment. The VagiBIOM suppository treatment for peri- and premenopausal women with BV significantly relieved vaginal itching by decreasing vaginal pH and Nugent scores and improving the overall VHI after 4 weeks' intervention. Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) is the most common head and neck cancer in India. Definitive surgery with or without post-op radiotherapy (PORT) with or without chemotherapy (CT) provides better outcomes in locally advanced OCSCC as compared to definitive chemoradiotherapy. T4b OCSCC with infra temporal fossa (ITF) involvement has varied outcome depending on the extent of ITF involvement, with low and mid ITF having relatively favorable prognosis. We aimed to prospectively evaluate outcomes in patients of OCSCC with low or mid ITF involvement treated with curative surgery followed by adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 20 patients of T4b OCSCC (as per AJCC 8th edition) with low or mid ITF involvement were included in this single arm prospective interventional study from January 2021 to October 2022. Patients with involvement of skull base, carotid artery, prevertebral fascia and/or pterygomaxillary fissure were excluded. All patients were treated with definitive surgery with ITF clearance followed by adjuvant CCRT as indicated. Loco-regional control (LRC), Disease free survival (DFS), Overall survival (OS) were assessed using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Acute toxicities were assessed according to the CTCAE v5.0. RESULTS Patient characteristics are summarized in table 1. Median follow-up was 11.5 months (4-21months). All patients received adjuvant CCRT with weekly cisplatin 40mg/m2 to a median number of 6 cycles (5-7 cycles). Median RT dose was 64Gy (60-64Gy). All patients tolerated treatment well. Grade 3 oral mucositis, odynophagia were seen in 8 (40%) patients each and skin toxicity, oral pain in 6 (30%) and 5 (25%) patients respectively. No grade 4 toxicities were observed LRC at three month was 73.68% with 4 local and 1 locoregional failure only. LRC at one year was 36.8% with 8 local, 1 locoregional, 2 locodistant and 1 distant failure only. Median DFS was 10.4 months. Median OS was not reached; four patients died. LRC at three months was better for patients with low ITF disease as compared to mid ITF disease (85.7% vs. 40% (p = 0.04) and at one year was 42.8% vs. 40% (p = 0.50). CONCLUSION Selected patient of locally advanced OCSCC with low ITF involvement may benefit from trimodality therapy of surgery with ITF clearance followed by adjuvant CCRT. Acute toxicity profile was acceptable in our study.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent cause of dementia; microglia have been implicated in AD pathogenesis, but their role is still matter of debate. Our study showed that single systemic wild-type (WT) hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell (HSPC) transplantation rescued the AD phenotype in 5xFAD mice and that transplantation may prevent microglia activation. Indeed, complete prevention of memory loss and neurocognitive impairment and decrease of β-amyloid plaques in the hippocampus and cortex were observed in the WT HSPC-transplanted 5xFAD mice compared with untreated 5xFAD mice and with mice transplanted with 5xFAD HSPCs. Neuroinflammation was also significantly reduced. Transcriptomic analysis revealed a significant decrease in gene expression related to "disease-associated microglia" in the cortex and "neurodegeneration-associated endothelial cells" in the hippocampus of the WT HSPC-transplanted 5xFAD mice compared with diseased controls. This work shows that HSPC transplant has the potential to prevent AD-associated complications and represents a promising therapeutic avenue for this disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary extranodal lymphomas (pENL) are lymphomas with minimal nodal involvement and dominant extranodal disease. We aimed to study the prevalence and clinicopathological characteristics of pENL presenting at our center over 5 years from January 2015 to January 2020. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study of pENL patients in which relevant clinical and laboratory data was collected including demography, site, stage, international prognostic index-revised, imaging findings, hematological, and biochemical parameters and comorbidities including underlying immunodeficiency. The paraffin blocks were subjected to routine hematoxylin and eosin stain and immunohistochemistry with standard lymphoma panel. RESULTS Of 341 lymphomas, 73 (21.4%) were pENL with commonest site being gastrointestinal tract (31.5%) followed by head and neck (23.2%) and soft tissues (9.6%). Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (39.7%) was the commonest histological type (germinal center type-48%, nongerminal center-52%) followed by marginal zone lymphomas (MZL) (23.3%) and primary CNS lymphoma (8.2%). Primary breast lymphoma, primary bone marrow lymphoma, and follicular lymphoma constituted 4.1, 5.4, and 4.1% of pENL, respectively. There was a case of high grade B cell lymphoma of ileum with features intermediate between DLBCL and Burkitt. Other unusual pENL were anaplastic DLBCL of tonsils, DLBCLs of bone marrow with M band, MZL of base of tongue, Richter's transformation of tonsillar small lymphocytic lymphoma, and follicular lymphoma presenting as pericardial mass. Of 12 cases of T-non-Hodgkin lymphoma, commonest were mycosis fungoides (4/12) followed by mediastinal T-lymphoblastic lymphoma (2/12) and peripheral T-cell lymphoma (2/12). CONCLUSION pENL has unique clinical presentation depending on the location with site-specific distribution of histological subtypes.

Abstract
Peri-anesthetic anaphylaxis is a rare but grave problem. After receiving informed consent for publication, we discuss the case of a female patient posted for laparoscopic cholecystectomy who developed an anaphylactic reaction to intravenous diclofenac, mimicking post-laparoscopy respiratory complication in the perioperative period. A 45-year-old, American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status (ASA-PS) I, female patient was posted for laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia (GA). The procedure took 60 minutes and concluded uneventfully. In the post-anesthesia care unit, the patient complained of respiratory difficulty. Even after the supplemental oxygen and in absence of any significant finding on respiratory examination, the patient soon developed severe cardiorespiratory collapse. On evaluation, administration of intravenous diclofenac a few minutes before the event was suspected as the trigger for this anaphylactic response. The patient responded to the injection of adrenaline, and her post-surgical progress over the next two days was uneventful. The retrospective tests done for confirming diclofenac hypersensitivity were found to be positive. No drug, however safe, should be given blindly without proper observation and monitoring. The course of development of anaphylaxis can range from a few seconds to minutes and hence, the earliest recognition and prompt action can be the only deciding factor between life and death for such patients.

Abstract
Background Crohn’s disease (CD) and Intestinal tuberculosis (ITB) mimic each other and are often difficult to differentiate. A correct and prompt diagnosis is essential for a good outcome. Mesenteric fat hypertrophy is a feature of CD and studies in adults have shown higher visceral fat in CD than ITB. There is no published data in children. Purpose This study evaluated the utility of visceral fat indices in differentiating CD and ITB in children. Method Symptomatic children diagnosed to have CD or ITB based on standard recommended criteria were enrolled. The clinical and laboratory details were noted. Abdominal fat was measured on Computed Tomography in supine position at the level of L4 vertebrae. Visceral fat (VF) and subcutaneous fat (SF) area was measured separately by an experienced radiologist, blinded to the diagnosis. Sum of VF and SF was taken as total fat (TF). VF/SF and VF/TF ratio was calculated. Result(s) 34 children [14 boys, median age 14.0 (inter quartile range 10.8-17.0)] years were recruited, of which 12 (29%) had CD [7 boys, age 13.0 (IQR 9.25-16.5) years] and 22 (71%) had ITB [7 boys, age-14.5 (IQR 11-17) years]. Visceral fat area (VF) was significantly higher in CD compared to ITB (table 1). However, there was no significant difference in the SF (2199.5 (1537.6-3881.6) vs 2176.5 (671.0-6651.5) mm2; p=0.958) and TF (3096.1 (2108.2-5373.5) vs 4518.2 (2677.6-8456.3) mm2; p=0.245) in ITB and CD respectively. The ratio of VF/SF and VF/TF was significantly higher in CD as compared to ITB for all cases (table1). When comparing CD and ITB in boys and girls separately the same trend was observed but the difference was statistically significant only for boys. On ROC analysis, VF:SF ratio of 0.609 predicted CD with the sensitivity of 75% and specificity of 86.4% (area under curve [AUC]-0.795, 95% CI 0.636-0.955; p=0.005). VF:TF ratio of 0.379 had similar sensitivity of 75% and specificity of 86.4% (AUC-0.795, 95% CI 0.636-0.955; p=0.005). The VF area of 1485.26 mm2 had a sensitivity of 83.3% and specificity of 72.7% for CD (AUC-0.758, 95% CI 0.590-0.925; p=0.01). Image ![]()

Abstract
COVID-19 pandemic was started in Wuhan city of China in December 2019; immensely affected global population. Herein, an effort was made to identify potential inhibitors from active phytochemicals of Pueraria tuberosa (PTY-2) via molecular docking study. Our study showed five potential inhibitors (Robinin, Genistin, Daidzin, Hydroxytuberosone, Tuberostan) against Mpro and five inhibitors (Robinin, Anhydrotuberosin, Daidzin, Hydroxytuberosone, Stigmasterol) against TMPRSS2. Out of these, Robinin, Daidzin and Hydroxytuberosone were common inhibitors for Mpro and TMPRSS2. Among these, Robinin showed the highest binding affinity, therefore, tested for MD simulation runs and found stable. ADMET analysis revealed the best-docked compounds are safe and follow the Lipinski Rule of Five. Thus, it could be suggested that phytochemicals of PTY-2 could serve as potential inhibitors for COVID-19 targets.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
Acute lung injury (ALI) is a lethal respiratory disorder; directed uncontrolled inflammation, sloughing of the alveolar cells and their diffusion, and altered cardiorespiratory parameters with a global mortality rate of 40%. This study was designed to assess the preventive effect of a polyherbal decoction (Bronco T, 1.5 g/kg b. w.) on cardiorespiratory variables in oleic acid-induced ALI in rats. Oleic acid increases the level of neutrophil infiltration leading to pulmonary edema and alters the cardiorespiratory dynamics. The adult male rats were surgically cannulated and treated with intravenous oleic acid (0.38 ml/kg b. w.) to establish the ALI model. Bronco T was pre-administered orally 3 hours before oleic acid. The biophysical, histological, biochemical, and molecular effects were compared with dexamethasone (5 mg/kg b. w. i. p.). The animals were randomly divided into control, lethal, standard, and treatment groups. Respiratory frequency (RF), heart rate (HR), and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were recorded on a computerized chart recorder; arterial blood sample was collected to determine PaO2/FiO2, TNF-α, and MPO. Lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activity were evaluated to measure oxidative stress in bronchoalveolar lavage. Additionally, the pulmonary water content, COX-2 expression and histological examination were determined in the lung. A molecular docking study of the active phytoconstituent of BT obtained from HR-LCMS analysis against reported targets (IL-6, COX-2, TNFα, MPO and ENaC) of ALI was carried out. The B.T. pretreatment prevents mortality in comparison to the oleic acid group. It protects the lungs and heart from the detrimental effect of oleic acid, on par with dexamethasone. COX-2 mRNA expression was significantly down-regulated in the treatment group. The reduced level of TNF-α, MPO, SOD and catalase supported the protective effect of B.T. The in silico study revealed strong binding interaction between the phytoconstituent (Galangin 3- [galactosyl-(1–4)-rhamnoside and Beta solamarine] of BT and the reported target. The B.T. pre-administration attenuates the oleic acid-induced mortality and cardiorespiratory toxicity.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulphide (H2 S) has emerged as a potential regulator of plant defence against different abiotic stresses. As a climacteric fruit, banana undergoes oxidative stresses shortly after harvest, resulting in faster ripening and senescence. This work examines the effects of vacuum infiltrated H2 S on ripening inhibition of banana. Banana fruits were vacuum infiltrated with 1 mm H2 S. Effects on oxidative stress markers, physiological changes, bioactive compounds and antioxidant potentials were examined during storage at 25 °C and 75-80% RH. Results indicate that treated fruits were less affected by oxidative stress, as evident by lower accumulation of ROS (superoxide and peroxide ions), elevated phenols content and antioxidant capacity. The ripening inhibitory effects of H2 S delayed chlorophyll loss and reduced ethylene and CO2 production. H2 S infiltration also reduced MDA accumulation and electrolytic leakage, resulting in longer shelf life. Vacuum infiltration with H2 S had a protective effect on postharvest banana through overcoming the deleterious effect of ROS and strengthening antioxidant potential. Thus, this method could be promising for enhanced preservation of banana during storage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nursing officers are an integral component of any medical team. They participate in taking care of basic airway management and assist in advanced airway management, specifically amidst the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
AIM To assess the efficacy of a standardized web-based training module for nurses in preparedness to fight against COVID-19.
METHODS The training was held in three sessions of 1 h each, consisting of live audio-visual lectures, case scenarios, and skill demonstrations. The sequence of airway equipment, drug preparation, airway examination, and plans of airway management was demonstrated through mannequin-based video-clips.
RESULTS Pre- and post-test scores as well as objective structured clinical examination scores were analyzed using Student’s t-test and the Likert scale was used for feedback assessment. It was found that the mean score out of the total score of 20 was 8.47 ± 4.2 in the pre-test, while in the post-test it was 17.4 ± 1.8 (P value < 0.001). The participants also felt self-reliant in executing the roles of airway assistant (63.3%) and drug assistant (74.3%). Fear of self-infection with COVID-19 was also high, as 66% of participants feared working with the patient’s airway.
CONCLUSION Amidst this COVID-19 emergency, when the health care systems are being persistently challenged, training of nursing staff in the safe conduct of airway management can ensure delivery of life-saving treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Here, Bronco T (BT), a polyherbal formulation developed in 1984 for treating asthma, has been repurposed against septicemia-induced ALI. MATERIALS AND METHODS Lipopolysaccharides (3 mg/kg BW) were injected intraperitoneally before 24 hours of surgery to assess the cardiorespiratory parameters, blood PaO2/FiO2 and MPO, pulmonary water content and histological changes in the lungs. The pentoxifylline (PTX) (25 mg/kg BW) was used as the positive control and given one hour before LPS. BT was given 3 hours (orally at different doses of 3, 1.5 and 0.75 g/kg BW) before LPS. RESULTS The LPS treated group showed significant bradypnea, hypotension and bradycardia, through elongated peaks (RR) and (MAP) respectively and finally death after 95 minutes of LPS injection. The PTX and BT (3 g/kg BW) pretreatment significantly prevented these changes (dose-dependent in the BT group). The survival in these groups was maintained up to 190 min after LPS. The Pentoxifylline showed a better response (75%) than Bronco T (72%). In both the treatments, a significant decrease in pulmonary water content and minimal neutrophil infiltration and intact alveoli-capillary membrane was seen in the transverse section (T.S) of the lungs. CONCLUSIONS Significant improvement was noted in survival time with lesser tissue damage and improved pulmonary function was observed by pre-treating with Bronco T in LPS induced septicemia.

Abstract
In the modern times, insecticides have grown to be an essential part of the atmosphere. Their full-size use in public health packages and agriculture has ended in capability environmental pollution and health risks, which relies upon their residual quantity and toxicity. The widespread uses cause general population to low dose of continual exposure of insecticides through meals and environment. The residue evaluation of human specimen suggests an increasing trend within the ranges of insecticides in serum, adipose tissue, breast milk, urine and others. Implications of pesticides residues on human fitness following subchronic publicity are but to be comprehensively answered. Subjection to insecticides can be closely associated with neurotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, immunotoxicity, genotoxicity and injurious reproductive effects. Pesticides leads to Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) generation in significant quantities, resulting in oxidative stress and cellular damages. Findings of research have discovered a concomitant genotoxic and apoptotic effect of the pesticides in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs). Since genotoxic consequences of pesticides on humans cannot be overlooked, therefore identification and implication of protective measures are urgently needed. This have been tested that PBMCs go through dose-structured apoptotic cell demise following pesticide exposure and additionally highlights the effectiveness of various antioxidants in counteracting pesticide-precipitated cytotoxicity. Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs) have emerged as an antiapoptotic molecules which counteract cytotoxicity. The inducible expression analysis of HSPs ought to make contributions to the human PBMCs to get over the toxic results of subchronic pesticide exposure. Though the linkage between cellular events of apoptosis is thought, the molecular mechanism highlighting the precise function of HSP in pesticidemediated cytotoxicity yet stays to be comprehensively replied. To better understand this mechanism, different antioxidant and HSP inducers have been employed, and also highlighted their attenuating effects towards the apoptotic capacity of such pesticides. This review article therefore, focuses on the fact that antioxidants and HSP inducers efficiently protect cells, emphasizing their role in pesticide-induced toxicity at molecular and cellular level as well as their possible use as therapeutic intervention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Salmonella in chicken, specially, the motile salmonellae, causes the food chain unsafe from farm to table and is considered a significant global threat to public health. AIMS The present study was carried out for molecular detection of Salmonellae in commercial poultry using PCR. METHODS The study was conducted for eight months, from July 2019 to February 2020, and a total of 26 poultry farms, including 15 broiler and 11-layer farms, were visited individually. Pooled faecal samples were obtained from the sheds. A total of 189 necropsy cases were examined for gastrointestinal lesions. Isolation and identification of the organism were done using microbe culture method, and the molecular characterization was performed via PCR targeting invA and ent genes. RESULTS The prevalence of salmonellosis in the broiler and layer farms was recorded at 20.0% and 45.4%, respectively, through the traditional gold standard culture method. From 189 necropsy birds, salmonellosis was recorded at 1.58% dead cases. Molecular detection of Salmonella isolates by PCR targeting invA gene was confirmed in 13.33% of the broiler farms and 36.3% of the layer farms. Further detection of Salmonella enteritidis was performed by PCR targeting ent gene by which 11.11% positivity was determined. CONCLUSION This study, focused on the Salmonella prevalence, highlighted the zoonotic importance of the bacterium in the commercial poultry farms, which can subsequently be dispersed into the human food chain causing harmful health effects.

Abstract
Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) are a luminescent class of carbon nanomaterials with a graphene-like core structure, possessing quantum confinement and edge effects. They have gained importance in the biological world due to their inherent biocompatibility, good water dispersibility, excellent fluorescence and photostability. The improved properties of GQDs require the logical enactment of functional groups, which can be easily attained through post-synthetic non-covalent routes of modification. In this regard, the present work has for the first time employed a simple one-pot post-modification method utilizing the salt of amino caproic acid, an FDA approved reagent. The adsorption of the modifier on GQDs with varying weight ratios is characterized through DLS, zeta potential, Raman, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. A decrease of 20% in the fluorescence intensity with an increase in the modifier ratio from 1 to 1000 and an increased DLS size as well as zeta potential demonstrate the efficient modification as well as higher stability of the modified GQDs. The modified GQDs with a high weight ratio (1 : 100) of the modifier showed superior ability to sense dopamine, a neurotransmitter, as well as competent biofilm degradation ability. The modified GQDs could sense more efficiently than pristine GQDs, with a sensitivity as low as 0.06 μM (limit of detection) and 90% selectivity in the presence of other neurotransmitters. The linear relationship showed a decrease in the fluorescence intensity with increasing dopamine concentration from 0.0625 μM to 50 μM. Furthermore, the efficiency of the modified GQDs was also assessed in terms of their antibiofilm effect against Staphylococcus aureus. The unmodified GQDs showed only 10% disruption of the adhered bacterial colonies, while the modified GQDs (1 : 100) showed significantly more than 60% disruption of the biofilm, presenting the competency of the modified GQDs. The unique modifications of GQDs have thus proven to be an effective method for the proficient utilization of zero-dimensional carbon nanomaterials for biosensing, bioimaging, antibacterial and anti-biofilm applications. The present work highlights a novel post-synthetic modification route for graphene quantum dots, which was found to be efficient for both the biosensing of dopamine as well as Staphylococcus aureus biofilm degradation.![]()

Abstract
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) result from a complex agent–host interaction and form a continuum of the same spectrum. A 30-year-old multi-gravida presented at 36 weeks gestation with fever and erythematous raised lesions over the face and upper and lower limbs after defaulting treatment for borderline lepromatous leprosy. Skin biopsy confirmed ENL, hence multi-drug therapy (MDT) and oral steroids were restarted. However, her condition worsened and she developed icterus, periorbital puffiness, pleural effusion, ascites and splenomegaly. Laboratory investigations showed pancytopenia, conjugated hyperbilirubinemia, transaminitis, elevated lactate dehydrogenase, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperferritinemia and hypofibrinogenemia. Dapsone was stopped on the suspicion of dapsone hypersensitivity but hyperbilirubinemia progressed. Diagnosis of HLH was clinched after bone marrow aspirate showed florid hemophagocytosis and subsequently, intravenous immunoglobulin (2 g/kg) over 5 days and dexamethasone were administered. The patient improved gradually with normalization of laboratory parameters and restarted MDT. This case depicts a rare and potentially catastrophic complication of ENL and emphasizes a vigil for HLH syndrome in such cases.

Abstract
The conventional cancer treatment strategies from chemotherapy to surgery often lead to inadequate results which in some cases lead to relapsing of the tumor being treated. Medulloblastoma witness 30% relapse rate which is universally fatal among children. Although the treatment of primary medulloblastoma is well established including surgical excision, postsurgical irradiation, and, more recently, chemotherapy, there is no established treatment for its recurrence. Despite efforts to improve its therapy, frequent long-haul survivors have been recorded in the world's medical literature. In this book chapter, we have attempted to focus light on the nano preparation of phytoconstituents as an alternative approach as it has advantage of providing better bioavailability of the compound in terms of crossing the blood-brain barrier and an additional benefit in terms of limited adverse effects of the natural product over the traditional chemotherapeutic approaches. In recent times, biological methods or green approaches in the case of plants have received immense attention due to its safety and lack of contamination in the process. In this chapter, we will explore some plant products that have been incorporated into nanocarriers to improve their bioavailability in this tumor treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to evaluate in vivo, in a mouse tail model of lymphedema, the effects of a dietary supplement, Garlive®, based on hydroxytyrosol from olive leaves, spermidine from rice seeds, hesperidin from citrus fruits and vitamin A. Hydroxytyrosol has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities and inhibits leukotriene B4 generation; spermidine is able to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators; hesperidin inhibits the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines: IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4, IL-10; vitamin A deficiency was shown to induce inflammation and aggravate existing inflammatory states, whereas supplementation with vitamin A could ameliorate inflammation. MATERIALS AND METHODS The active compounds were included in tablets: 250 mg of olive leaf extract titrated in 10% hydroxytyrosol, 200 mg of citrus fruits extract titrated in 60% hesperidin, 10 mg of rice (Oryza sativa) seeds extract titrated in 1% spermidine and 0.8 mg of vitamin A. Mice of an inbred group were randomly selected and divided in the control group and drug-treated group. The wound necessary for lymphedema generation was made on the tail of each mice 1 cm below the base of the trunk. RESULTS After surgical intervention, there was a gradual increase in the circumference of both ends of the wound. The control group showed higher increase of tail volume than the drug-treated group. The differences in tail swelling between the control group and the drug-treated group were significantly different. The peak of swelling was anticipated to the 6th day in the drug-treated group, whereas in the control group the peak was reached later on. CONCLUSIONS The tested drug prevented the induction of swelling from day 5th of wound creation and decreased the duration of swelling, favoring the wound healing.

Abstract
Objectives The spectrum of thrombophilia in women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is different in Indian ethnicity as reported by few studies. We aimed to study the prevalence of thrombophilia in RPL patients referred to hematology department of a tertiary centre. Material and Methods This is an observational study of 112 RPL patients with no apparent cause after extensive workup for non-hematological causes. The investigations performed were routine coagulogram, APLA workup, plasma homocysteine, MTHFRC677T polymorphisms, Protein C, free Protein S, Anti-thrombin III levels, test for Activated Protein C resistance (APC-R) ,Factor V Leiden and Prothrombin gene G20210A mutation. Results Of 112 patients, at least one thrombophilia was identified in 70.5% and combined thrombophilia in 12.5% patients. Hyperhomocysteinemia (30.4%) and APLA (25.9%) were the commonest thrombophilia whereas anticoagulant defects were seen in 12.5% of the population. Protein C deficiency (5.35%) was the commonest anticoagulant defect followed by APCR (3.6%). Mutational analysis revealed MTHFRC677T polymorphism in 20.5% whereas Factor V Leiden heterozygous in 1.8% patients. None of the patients had homozygous Factor V Leiden or Prothrombin gene G20210A mutation. Hyperhomocysteinemia, MTHFRC677T and Protein C deficiency were more associated with early pregnancy losses whereas Protein S deficiency, Factor V Leiden and APLA caused both early and late losses. Patients with greater number of losses were positive for homozygous MTHFRC677T, factor V Leiden and APLA. Conclusion The approach to investigating Indian women with RPL should be based on the prevalence of thrombophilia which is unique to Indian ethnicity.

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction
The UK treats approximately 76,000 neck of femur (NOF) fractures annually (NHFD 2018). These patients are known to be frail and dehydrated upon arrival to the emergency department. Surgery can expose patients to substantial blood loss both preoperatively and postoperatively (Foss et al). Furthermore, studies have shown that postoperative anaemia is detrimental in patients who have had hip surgery (Marval et al 2014). Thus, it is imperative to monitor patients’ haemoglobin (Hb) levels immediately after the operation so that optimum treatment can be assured. The current audit standard in our local trust states that all patients must have their full blood count (FBC) within 32 hours post-surgery. As Covid-19 has brought disruption to the NHS, It is important for us to highlight any issues that arise in the monitoring of Hb in the post-operative phase of these NOF patients.
Method
Using retrospective analysis, this study analysed the number of patients having the FBC within 32 hours post-surgery during the pandemic (n = 60) and was compared to a similar cohort pre-pandemic (n = 139).
Results
91% of patients overall had their Hb checked within 32 hours. 92% in the pre-covid group had a Hb check within time compared to 81% in the covid group. The risk ratio calculated was 1.5.
Conclusions
Conclusively, patients in the covid group were 1.5 times more likely to have their FBC checked past 32 hours post-surgery. However, this finding was not significant. Overall, the audit standard was not met.

Abstract
Background: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been used in various medicinal products because of its anti-microbial properties. This research study has reported a simplistic, cost effective and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of Silver nanoparticles.
Objective: The objective of present study was to compare the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from various parts of Citrus maxima fruit like pulp, peel and seed.
Methodology: The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by the use of UV-visible spectroscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Time-dependent synthesis of AgNPs was studied spectrophotometrically. UV–visible spectrophotometer was used to confirm the synthesis of AgNPs which showed maximum absorption at 410 nm, 420 nm and 430 nm respectively.
Expected Results: Fresh peel extract exhibited the highest concentration of silver nanoparticles in comparison to pulp and seed. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra analysis confirmed the presence of possible functional groups in AgNPs which can be responsible for reduction of nanoparticles. Morphological characters of AgNPs were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) depicting the particles size as 12.58-47.80 nm. The antibacterial property of synthesized AgNPs was analyzed viz Escherichia coli (MTCC 1687) and Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 902), specify them to be effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
Conclusion: These results suggested that the fresh peel extract of Citrus maxima is a high-quality bioreductant for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles and have prospective for various biomedical applications.

Abstract
Background: TURP is the most common surgical intervention for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Aims and Objectives: This prospective randomized study was planned to evaluate spinal anaesthesia (SA) versus saddle block with regard to haemodynamic parameters, ephedrine consumption, patient and surgeon satisfaction, perioperative complications in patients undergoing TURP.
Materials and Methods: Eighty patients between the ages of 50-80 years with BPH, belonging to ASA grade I- III, prostatic volume between 50 - 80 cc were included in our study. Patients were randomly divided into two groups of 40 patients each. Patients in group SA (n=40) received spinal anaesthesia and the patients in group SBBI (n=40) were given saddle block with bladder instillation of local anaesthetic jelly for undergoing TURP.
Results: There was more statistically significant fall in MAP in Group SA as compared to Group SBBI (p<0.05). Complications like hypotension, bradycardia and vasopressor requirement was less but requirement (p=0.021) of supplemental analgesia was more in patients who were administered saddle block. There was significantly lower patient satisfaction in saddle block (p=0.044) but comparable surgical satisfaction in both groups.
Conclusion: Both Spinal anaesthesia and saddle block are safe and effective techniques of anaesthesia for patients undergoing TURP. SA has advantages like less requirement of supplemental analgesia, longer duration of post-operative analgesia and more patient satisfaction. However, saddle block is superior to spinal anaesthesia with regard to haemodynamic stability; with less chances of hypotension, bradycardia and less vasopressor requirement. It is similar to SA in terms of providing adequate surgical conditions.

Abstract
Cervicogenic headache (CeH) is caused by the disorder of the cervical spine and its anatomical structures. Patients who fail to respond to conservative therapies can undergo interventional treatment. The purpose of this review is to describe the various interventions and compare their relative efficacies. Although a few reviews have been published focusing on individual interventions, reviewing studies on other available treatments and establishing the most efficacious approach is still necessary. We performed a systematic review of studies available on the various interventions for CeH. The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases were searched for literature published between January 2001 and March 2021. Based on the inclusion criteria, 23 articles were included. Two reviewers independently extracted the data from the studies and summarized them in a table. Eleven of twenty-three studies evaluated the effect of radiofrequency ablation (RFA), 5 evaluated occipital nerve blocks, 2 each for facet joint injections and deep cervical plexus blocks, and 1 study each evaluated atlantoaxial (AA) joint injections, cervical epidural injection, and cryoneurolysis. Most of the studies reported pain reduction except 2 studies on RFA. In conclusion, based on the available literature, occipital nerve blocks, cervical facet joint injection, AA joint injection, deep cervical plexus block, cervical epidural injection may be reasonable options in refractory cases of CeH. RFA was found to have favorable long-term outcomes, while better safety has been reported with pulsed therapy. However, our review revealed only limited evidence, and more randomized controlled trials are needed to provide more conclusive evidence.

Abstract
Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure (ACLF) is associated with innate immune dysfunction and high short-term mortality. Neutrophils have been identified to influence prognosis in ACLF. Neutrophil biology is under-evaluated in ACLF. Therefore, we investigated neutrophil-specific genes and their association with ACLF outcomes. This is an observational study. Enriched granulocytes, containing neutrophils, isolated from study participants in three groups- ACLF(n = 10), chronic liver disease (CLD, n = 4) and healthy controls (HC, n = 4), were analysed by microarray. Differentially expressed genes were identified and validated by qRT-PCR in an independent cohort of ACLF, CLD and HC (n = 30, 15 and 15 respectively). The association of confirmed overexpressed genes with ACLF 28-day non-survivors was investigated. The protein expression of selected neutrophil genes was confirmed using flow cytometry and IHC. Differential gene expression analysis showed 1140 downregulated and 928 upregulated genes for ACLF versus CLD and 2086 downregulated and 1091 upregulated genes for ACLF versus HC. Significant upregulation of neutrophilic inflammatory signatures were found in ACLF compared to CLD and HC. Neutrophil enriched genes ELANE, MPO and CD177 were highly upregulated in ACLF and their expression was higher in ACLF 28-day non-survivors. Elevated expression of CD177 protein on neutrophil surface in ACLF was confirmed by flow cytometry. IHC analysis in archival post mortem liver biopsies showed the presence of CD177+ neutrophils in the liver tissue of ACLF patients. Granulocyte genes ELANE, MPO and CD177 are highly overexpressed in ACLF neutrophils as compared to CLD or HC. Further, this three-gene signature is highly overexpressed in ACLF 28-day non-survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Post thyroidectomy hypocalcemia is a major sequel of thyroidectomy and continues to trouble the endocrinologists and the endocrine surgeons as there is no ideal predictive marker of hypocalcemia which has the potential to develop into a life-threatening complication. The role of early serum intact parathormone (iPTH) to predict post thyroidectomy hypocalcemia is becoming useful but the literature is still unclear regarding the optimal time of testing and the optimal cut-off value of serum iPTH. PATIENTS AND METHODS This is a prospective cohort study of 111 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy in a tertiary care endocrine surgery referral unit. Serum iPTH was measured after 20 min and 4 h of surgery. Receiver-Operator characteristic Curve (ROC) was used to find out of the best cut-off value of S. iPTH 20 min and 4 h after surgery in predicting hypocalcemia. RESULTS Hypocalcemia was noted in 60 (54%) out of 111 subjects who underwent total thyroidectomy. The best cut-off values of Serum iPTH to predict hypocalcemia was found to be 4.28 pmol/l at 20 min post total thyroidectomy with a sensitivity and specificity of 81.7% and 51%, respectively. In addition, patients with malignancy or central lymph nodal dissection were significantly over-represented in the hypocalcemia group with serum iPTH above the threshold level of 4.28 pmol/l. Below the cut off level, parenteral calcium supplementation was required in 23% (17/74) subjects while the rate was only 5.4% (2/37) patients when serum iPTH was above the cut-off level. CONCLUSIONS The decline of serum iPTH below a specific level after surgery has predictive value together with other factors strictly related to patient, the thyroid disease itself and surgery. The risk of development of hypocalcemia and consequent need for calcium supplementation should be evaluated by clinical assessment along with serum PTH measurement.

Abstract
The quantity of floating plastic debris (FPD) is continuously being increased in the oceans. To assess their size, structure, and composition along the eastern Arabian Sea (EAS), FPD samples were collected by using a surface plankton net. The microplastic size fraction (0.5-5 mm) was the most prevalent accounting for >50% of the total, followed by mesoplastics (5-25 mm; ~40%) and macroplastics (>25 mm; ~10%). The collected FPDs were categorized into five different types and eight colours. Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (ATR-FTIR) analysis of the plastics revealed that polypropylene, polyethylene, and nylon were the most dominant polymers, and these comprised mostly of fibre/fishing line. The abundance of FPD in the EAS (0.013 ± 0.012 no.s/m3) was found to be very low compared to elsewhere. The prevalent microplastics presence in the oceans might have occurred mainly by the degradation of larger items. It increases bioavailability, and hence, is a risk to marine ecosystems.

Abstract
Innate immune memory, a crucial mechanism of epigenetically mediated myeloid cell plasticity, alters subsequent immune responses majorly by two types of immunological imprinting, training, and tolerance. Recent pioneer studies provided proof-of-principle for generation of both types of innate immune memory in brain macrophage, microglial cells. This novel study was designed to investigate whether the pattern of immune response generation, induced by peripheral administration of recombinant alarmin HMGB1, alone and in combination with other recombinant cytokines, is affected by prior exposure. The experimental outcomes revealed that full length recombinant HMGB1 exposure for seven consecutive days exhibit inflammatory response as evidenced by enhanced expression of inflammatory biomarkers and neurodegeneration. In contrary, combined doses of HMGB1 and IL-1β, for three and seven consecutive days, exhibited lower inflammatory state compared to its alone HMGB1 counterpart. The immune tolerance state was evident by microglial polarization towards non-reactive M2 state, lower astrocyte activation, epigenetic reprogramming, and decreased neurodegeneration. This is the first demonstration that HMGB1 and IL-1β priming can differentially affect inflammation in the brain when a host is confronted with a second, third stimulus or so on. The findings were further validated by suppressing major regulators of epigenetic reprogramming, by intranasal delivery of specific siRNAs targeting those regulators. These results may provide new evidence for the involvement of recombinant endogenous cytokine induced generation of innate immune tolerance within microglial cells and indicated the possible potential role in mediating cognitive and behavioural alterations during inflammatory diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The developmental gradient in monocot leaves has been exploited to uncover leaf developmental gene expression programs and chloroplast biogenesis processes. However, the relationship between the two is barely understood, which limits the value of transcriptome data to understand the process of chloroplast development. RESULTS Taking advantage of the developmental gradient in the bread wheat leaf, we provide a simultaneous quantitative analysis for the development of mesophyll cells and of chloroplasts as a cellular compartment. This allows us to generate the first biologically-informed gene expression map of this leaf, with the entire developmental gradient from meristematic to fully differentiated cells captured. We show that the first phase of plastid development begins with organelle proliferation, which extends well beyond cell proliferation, and continues with the establishment and then the build-up of the plastid genetic machinery. The second phase is marked by the development of photosynthetic chloroplasts which occupy the available cellular space. Using a network reconstruction algorithm, we predict that known chloroplast gene expression regulators are differentially involved across those developmental stages. CONCLUSIONS Our analysis generates both the first wheat leaf transcriptional map and one of the most comprehensive descriptions to date of the developmental history of chloroplasts in higher plants. It reveals functionally distinct plastid and chloroplast development stages, identifies processes occurring in each of them, and highlights our very limited knowledge of the earliest drivers of plastid biogenesis, while providing a basis for their future identification.

Abstract
The ecological theory of species interactions rests largely on the competition, interference, and predator-prey models. In this paper, we propose and investigate a three-species predator-prey model to inspect the mutual interference between predators. We analyze boundedness and Kolmogorov conditions for the non-spatial model. The dynamical behavior of the system is analyzed by stability and Hopf bifurcation analysis. The Turing instability criteria for the Spatio-temporal system is estimated. In the numerical simulation, phase portrait with time evolution diagrams shows periodic and chaotic oscillations. Bifurcation diagrams show the very rich and complex dynamical behavior of the non-spatial model. We calculate the Lyapunov exponent to justify the dynamics of the non-spatial model. A variety of patterns like interference, spot, and stripe are observed with special emphasis on Beddington-DeAngelis function response. These complex patterns explore the beauty of the spatio-temporal model and it can be easily related to real-world biological systems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: To report the frequency and severity of complications, and their effect on the outcome of tuberculous meningitis (TBM).METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, the following TBM complications were observed: status epilepticus (SE), hydrocephalus, paradoxical clinical worsening (PCW), hyponatremia, drug-induced hepatitis (DIH), infarction and mechanical ventilation (MV). These were recorded and correlated with stage of meningitis and outcome.RESULTS: A total of 144 patients with TBM (median age 26 years, range 12-75) were included. There were 76 (52.8%) females. The patients were in Stage I (n = 33), Stage II (n = 82) and Stage III (n = 29); 58 had definite TBM. Complications occurred in 128 (88.9%); complications included hydrocephalus (n = 58, 40.3%), hyponatremia (n = 70, 48.6%), infarction (n = 48, 33.3%), DIH (n = 42, 29.2%), SE (n = 16, 18.0%), MV (n = 43, 29.9%) and PCW (n = 24, 16.7%), with variable overlap. By 6 months, 33 patients had died. Death was related to PCW (P = 0.016), hyponatremia (P = 0.03), MV (P = 0.02), infarction (P = 0.03) and the number of complications. Except PCW, most complications occurred during the first month.CONCLUSIONS: In TBM, complications occurred in 128 (88.9%) patients, mainly in the early stages, with variable overlap. Infarction, PCW, hyponatremia and MV were predictive of poor outcome.

Abstract
Supraglottic airway devices (SAD) have got popularity in the anesthetic practice owing to easy insertion, rapid airway access and lower incidence of complications. Igel® is a second generation SAD with a non‐inflatable cuff and gastric drainage channel. Despite ease of insertion, there are still cases of failure of Igel® insertion to secure airway. We are hereby presenting a case of unanticipated difficulty in Igel® insertion in a 35-years-old female due to a hypopharyngeal growth. This article aims to send a reminder that despite anticipated easy airway, definitive plan for securing airway should always be ready.

Abstract
Incentive spirometer (IS) is a popular choice for chest physiotherapy. It is used to optimize preoperative respiratory status and prevent postoperative pulmonary complications. However, the use of conventional forms of IS pose a challenging task in children due to the lack of cooperation, compliance, and submaximal effort on the part of pediatric patients. To tackle this problem, we describe an innovative and fascinating technique of spirometry. It employs a toy as a better acceptable incentive spirometry device in pediatric population. This toy has a mouthpiece and a long inflatable plastic strip at the other end. As the child blows into the mouthpiece, a captivating sound from the toy keeps buzzing progressively till the air is being blown during exhalation and is accompanied with inflation of the strip in an elongated fashion. Hence, this device incorporates the two best enjoyed incentives for children, namely, visual and audio to ensure patient compliance and participation.

Abstract
Background Gingivitis is one of the most prevalent oral disease in humans. The most important etiological factor of gingivitis is dental plaque. Plaque control procedures comprises of several mechanical and chemical methods. Many studies have advocated that chemical plaque control methods can be used successfully as an adjunct to mechanical plaque control procedures. Thus, the aim of this pilot study is to evaluate the effectiveness of two topical antimicrobial gels as an adjunct to mechanical plaque control over a period of 2 weeks in treatment of chronic gingivitis patients.
Material and Methods This is a single blind, two arm parallel design pilot clinical study including 60 systemically healthy patients with 1) chronic generalized gingivitis (MGI>1), 2) probing depth ≤ 3mm and 3) zero clinical attachment loss. The study participants were randomly assigned into two groups i.e., Group I- Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHX) gel, Group II- combination gel of Chlorhexidine gluconate and Metronidazole (CHX-MTZ) gel. Clinical parameters viz. Gingival Index (GI) and Modified Sulcus bleeding index (MSBI) were recorded firstly at baseline after Scaling and Root Planing(SRP), and secondly at the end of the study period of two weeks. Intra and inter-group comparisons of clinical parameters were done using appropriate statistical tests.
Results There was high significant reduction in GI and MSBI scores at the end of 2 weeks period in both the groups. Further, combination gel of Group II (CHX+MTZ) was found to be statistically more effective as compared to Group I (CHX) used alone.
Conclusions Our study suggests that Chemotherapeutic agents like CHX and combination CHX-MTZ Gel are clinically effective as adjunct to Scaling and Root Planning(SRP) in treatment of Chronic Gingivitis. Further, post statistical comparative analysis has proved CHX-MTZ combination gel regime to be more clinically effective than CHX gel used alone in treatment of Chronic Gingivitis as adjunct to SRP. Abstract
Gloriosa superba L. has economic significance due to colchicine, a bioactive compound used for gout. In present study metabolic and molecular variability in natural population of species was analyzed and correlated with edaphic and climatic factors. Thirty populations (wild) of G. superba were mapped from 10 different eco-regions of India at an elevation range of 10-1526 m, having no morphotypic variations. The two known biologically active alkaloids colchicine (ranged from 0.015-0.516%) and gloriosine (0.19-0.44%) were significantly varied (p < 0.05) among populations, leading to the identification of four elite chemotypes. Molecular variability from ISSR data divides the population in different sub clusters at intra-specific level, presenting the high similarity percentage with bootstrap value of 66-100%. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that elite chemotypes are related to temperature, precipitation and aridity gradient. The rhizospheric soil selenium was significantly correlated with colchicine content in G. superba.

Abstract
Despite our growing knowledge about the COVID pandemic, not much concern has been focused upon the effective pain management in pediatric patients suffering from this SARS CoV2 virus. Symptoms with pain like myalgia (10%–40%), sore throat (5%–30%), headache (14%–40%) and abdominal pain (10%) are common in children suffering from COVID. (3-5) We conducted a systematic review regarding analgesia for COVID positive pediatric patients. Cochrane, PubMed, and Google scholar databases were searched for relevant literature. Owing to the novel status of COVID-19 with limited literature, we included randomized controlled trials (RCTs), observational studies, case series and case reports in the descending order of consideration. Articles in languages other than English, abstract only articles and non-scientific commentaries were excluded. The Primary outcome was evaluation of pain related symptoms and best strategies for their management. Our review revealed that a multidisciplinary approach starting from non-pharmacological techniques like drinking plenty of water, removing triggers like inadequate sleep, specific foods and psychotherapy including distraction, comfort and cognitive behavioural strategies should be used. Pharmacological approaches like acetaminophen, NSAIDS, spasmolytics etc. can be used if non-pharmacological therapy is inadequate. As per the current strength of evidence, acetaminophen and ibuprofen can be safely administered for pain management in children with COVID-19. Undertreated pain is a significant contributor to increased morbidity and poor prognosis. Integration of evidence based non-pharmacotherapies in the multidisciplinary pain management will contribute towards improved functioning, early recovery and better quality care for pediatric patients suffering from COVID.
