Abstract
We report a patient with isolated ptosis secondary to orbital metastasis but no evidence of a neoplastic process on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A 69-year-old male was referred to our hospital with ptosis of the right upper eyelid and secondary frontalis muscle overaction on the left side for six months. The palpebral fissure was 3mm on the right and 16mm on the left, and levator function was 6mm and 19mm respectively. Three years previously, he had undergone surgical resection of the left lower lobe of the lung due to a T1 N0 M0 adenocarcinoma, and no recurrence had since been observed. An MRI was performed to rule out ptosis secondary to metastasis. Thyroid dysfunction and myasthenia were also ruled out. The ptosis was attributed to an isolated microvascular third nerve palsy. A standard external levator advancement was performed. Six months after the surgery, the patient presented with intense pain, minimal ptosis, edema and diplopia. A new MRI revealed an orbital metastasis measuring 2.4×1.0×1.6cm in the superior orbit, exerting mass effect on the superior rectus and the levator palpebrae superioris muscle. A positron emission tomography scan revealed a recurrence of the lung cancer with multiple bony metastases. The patient underwent chemotherapy consisting of the taxol-carboplatin protocol. Our report highlights the importance of a high index of suspicion of a neoplastic etiology in patients with mild symptoms and a history of cancer even if imaging does not initially reveal a mass or infiltration.

Abstract
PURPOSE The goal of this study is to examine changing patterns of ophthalmic visits in an emergency eye care unit of a tertiary referral center in Paris, France, during the Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic compared to a control period. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a single-center, retrospective, observational, epidemiological study. We included all visits in the emergency eye care unit of the Quinze-Vingts National Ophthalmology Center, Paris, France, from March 17, 2020 to April 30, 2020, and a corresponding time period in 2016. We analyzed patients' demographic factors, chief complaints, referral patterns, examination findings, treatment provided, hospitalizations and surgical interventions. RESULTS During the 6weeks of lockdown, 3547 emergency visits were recorded. The control group contained 2108 patients from June 6-19, 2016. There was a decrease of approximately 50% in the number of average daily visitations. The frequency of serious diagnoses (including severe eye inflammation, serious infections, retinal vascular pathologies, surgical emergencies, and neuro-ophthalmology), increased overall during the period (P=0.03). The proportion of low severity pathologies decreased (P<0.001) between the two periods. In addition, an increased amount of ancillary testing was performed (P<0.001). Finally, the rate of hospitalizations was significantly lower during the lockdown period (P<0.001). CONCLUSION A significant reduction in total ophthalmic presentations in the emergency eye care unit was observed during the lockdown period. However, the proportion of emergencies requiring specialized treatments (surgical, infectious, inflammatory and neuro-ophthalmological pathologies) increased.

Introduction
Delirium is a common condition in older hospitalised patients causing high morbidity and mortality. The neurobiological basis for delirium is uncertain and, for numerous reasons, research in this area has been limited. Several recent studies have demonstrated that functional neuroimaging in delirium is achievable and has suggested that a brain region termed the default mode network (DMN), may play a cardinal role in delirium pathogenesis. We set out to develop a pilot study to demonstrate that it is feasible to undertake functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans in older patients with acute delirium.
Methods
Observational pilot study obtaining a fMRI scan of inpatients in an Australian, tertiary hospital, geriatric ward. Eligible patients diagnosed as delirious by a geriatrician were compared against non-delirious controls. Informed consent was obtained. A novel scanning paradigm was developed. Sequences assed brain structure and functional networks in resting state and during a simple task of sustained attention and response inhibition.
Results
11 participants have been scanned. 6 participants were delirious: mean age 81 years (range 77 – 85 years), 3 female. 5 participants were non-delirious: mean age 83.4years (range 79 -90 years), 2 female. 10 of the 11 participants completed the full imaging protocol, including task engagement. Head movement during scanning, was generally within acceptable limits. Data demonstrates considerable cortical atrophy and ventricular enlargement consistent with age. Preliminary fMRI analyses show a variable pattern of cortical recruitment during task engagement in delirious patients.
Conclusions
These findings show it is ethically and logistically feasible to engage elderly patients with acute delirium into a high end structural and functional imaging study.

Background
Systemic amyloidoses represent a heterogeneous group of diseases resulting from the deposition of misfolded proteins as amyloid fibrils into the extracellular matrix of different organs. Based on this precursor protein, cardiac amyloidosis (CA) can be most frequently classified as: light chain (AL) and transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis, with different management and prognosis.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to establish a differential diagnosis algorithm targeted towards these two most frequent subtypes of CA. Although confirmation through invasive or non-invasive diagnostic algorithms is still mandatory for a final diagnosis, a series of clinical, paraclinical and imaging differences could possibly guide the choice for more complex diagnostic steps.
Methods
We prospectively included all consecutive patients with ATTR and AL evaluated between 2018 and 2022 in our center. All patients had a complete clinical, paraclinical and imaging evaluation including myocardial deformation study, and confirmation of the final diagnosis, according to the current international recommendations.
Results
The study population included 81 patients divided into 2 groups: ATTR (group 1, n=32: 30 variant and 2 wild type) and AL (group 2, n=49).
ATTR patients were younger (50.7±13.9 vs. 60.2±7.3 years, p=0.0001), had predominantly more neurological symptoms, milder cardiac symptoms and lower values of cardiac biomarkers than AL: NT-proBNP (3095±4433 vs. 10382±9008 ng/ml, p=0.001) and high sensitive troponin I (0.0129±0.01 vs 0.177±0.2 ng/ml, p=0.0002), with better renal function (mean GFR 84.74±26.9 vs. 64.5±29.45 mL/min, p=0.003). We found no significant differences in terms of ECG changes.
Moreover, at similar left ventricular (LV) wall thickness and ejection fraction, ATTR group had less pericardial effusions (53.6 vs. 86.8%, p=0.0027), better LV global longitudinal strain (−12.0±3.7 vs. −9.7±4.6%, p=0.03), RV strain (RVFW strain −19.7±6.2 vs. −14.5±11.0%, p=0.03) and also better reservoir and contractile function of the LA (LASr 17.2±12.3 vs. 11.2±7.4%, p=0.02).
Based on this multiparametric comparison we proposed a prediction algorithm to differentiate between the 2 forms of CA. A score of equal or more than 4 from a maximum of 9 points, has been able to differentiate between AL and ATTR with a sensitivity and specificity of 78 and 80%, respectively; AUC= 0.82.
Conclusions
CA is a complex entity and requires extensive testing through serum biomarkers, imaging, and invasive confirmation of amyloid infiltration in some cases. This study highlighted a series of non-invasive checkpoints, which can be useful in guiding the decision making process towards a more accurate and rapid differential diagnosis, in cases where a final diagnosis is crucial to be immediately established.

Introduction
Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked rare lysosomal storage disease caused by mutations in the GLA gene which lead to decrease in α Gal A enzyme activity and tissue accumulation of lysosomal globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) and globotriaosylsphingosine (lyso-Gb3). Due to X linked transmission, males are hemizygous, and females are heterozygous and were initially thought to be unaffected. However, women with FD can vary from asymptomatic, mildly symptomatic, to severely symptomatic as males. The aim of this study is to evaluate the particularities of FD presentation, cardiac imaging and management in females from the full Romanian FD cohort as compared to male patients.
Methods
This study included all consecutive patients diagnosed in or referred to our center with FD between 2014–2021. All patients had a complete clinical, biological and cardiac imaging workup.
Results
During the inclusion interval, data from 66 consecutive Romanian FD patients (37 women and 29 men) from 29 unrelated families were collected. Diagnosing mode in FD women differs compared to men (p<0.001): most women were diagnosed through family screening or by a cardiologist, while most men were diagnosed by nephrologists. Women had higher levels of α Gal A levels (1.3±0.8 μmol/L/h vs 0.5±0.7 μmol/L/h, normal cutoff >1.2) (p<0.001) and smaller levels of lyso-GB3 (5.8±2.6 ng/ml vs 110±35.6 ng/ml, normal cutoff<3.8) (p<0.001). More women are asymptomatic carriers than men (27% vs 3.4%), but when symptoms were present, they could be as severe as in men. Enrolled women were older (50.9±16.3 vs 41±14.9 years, p=0.014), diagnosed later (46.8±16.8 vs 32.7±14.3 years, p<0.001) and had later symptom onset of the disease compared with men (38.1±14.4 vs 20.3±14.9 years, p<0.001). Women had less angiokeratomas (p=0.001) and hypohydrosis (p=0.04), with no difference in cornea verticillata or ENT involvement. Both women and men developed cardiac symptoms starting from the fifth decade, with no differences in terms of angina, NYHA class, syncope between sexes. Women tend to have a lower prevalence of LVH compared to men (p=0.052), with no differences regarding ejection fraction or global longitudinal strain between genders. Regarding other organs involved, women were equally affected as men from acroparesthesia and stroke, with similar age at first cerebrovascular event. Women had milder kidney involvement (stages 1 and 2) when compared to men (56.8% vs 37.9%, p=0.004). Regardless of these findings, it appeared that women were less treated with pathogenic therapy comparing to men (48.6% vs 82.7%) (p=0.004).
Conclusions
Women with FD are not merely genetic carriers as they can be as affected as men. However, they benefit later from diagnosis and less of pathogenic therapy. Further studies with more female participations are needed to better understand the Fabry burden and needs in women.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Paul Tessier was a leading French oculoplastic surgeon who took part in several surgical missions in Iran to manage victims of the Iraq-Iran conflict in the late 1980's and early 1990's. METHODS We collected the records of 322 patients who underwent surgical procedures for the management of wartime injuries by Paul Tessier's team in Iran from 1990 to 1993. We also report one of the most representative cases of orbital reconstruction performed by Tessier. RESULTS Mean age at the time of trauma was 20.65±7.04 years (range: 2--62). Craniofacial CT-scans were available for 54 patients. The bones of the upper third of the face and the orbital contents were affected in 124/322 patients (38.50%). Soft-tissue lesions of the upper third included 13 frontal lacerations (4.04%), 60 orbital injuries (18.63%) and 95 uni- or bilateral enucleations (29.50%). Thirty-nine uni- or bilateral lid injuries (12.11%) and 8 tear duct injuries (2.48%) were reported. A specific case of orbital reconstruction using antero-internal and posterior iliac bone grafts was reported as a representative example of Tessier's techniques. CONCLUSION This study highlights the challenges of orbital reconstruction in wartime injuries and provides insights on the work of one of the most renowned surgeons in this field.

Abstract
Dust polarization observations are a powerful, practical tool to probe the geometry (and to some extent, the strength) of magnetic fields in starforming regions. In particular, Planck polarization data have revealed the importance of magnetic fields on large scales in molecular clouds. However, due to insufficient resolution, Planck observations are unable to constrain the B-field geometry on prestellar and protostellar scales. The high angular resolution of 11.7 arcsec provided by NIKA2-Pol 1.15 mm polarimetric imaging, corresponding to 0.02 pc at the distance of the Orion molecular cloud (OMC), makes it possible to advance our understanding of the B-field morphology in star-forming filaments and dense cores (IRAM 30m large program B-FUN). The commissioning of the NIKA2-Pol instrument has led to several challenging issues, in particular, the instrumental polarization or intensity-to-polarization “leakage” effect. In the present paper, we illustrate how this effect can be corrected for, leading to reliable exploitable data in a structured, extended source such as OMC-1. We present a statistical comparison between NIKA2-Pol and SCUBA2-Pol2 results in the OMC-1 region. We also present tentative evidence of local pinching of the B-field lines near Orion-KL, in the form of a new small-scale hourglass pattern, in addition to the larger-scale hourglass already seen by other instruments such as Pol2.

Abstract
We present a multi-probe analysis of the well-known galaxy cluster CL J1226.9+3332 as a proof of concept for multi-wavelength studies within the framework of the NIKA2 Sunyaev-Zel’dovich Large Program (LPSZ). CL J1226.9+3332 is a massive and high redshift (z = 0.888) cluster that has already been observed at several wavelengths. A joint analysis of the thermal SZ (tSZ) effect at millimeter wavelength with the NIKA2 camera and in X-ray with the XMM-Newton satellite permits the reconstruction of the cluster’s thermodynamical properties and mass assuming hydrostatic equilibrium. We test the robustness of our mass estimates against different definitions of the data analysis transfer function. Using convergence maps reconstructed from the data of the CLASH program we obtain estimates of the lensing mass, which we compare to the estimated hydrostatic mass. This allows us to measure the hydrostatic-to-lensing mass bias and the associated systematic effects related to the NIKA2 measurement. We obtain M500HSE = (7:65 ± 1:03) × 1014M⊙ and M500lens = (7:35 ± 0:65) × 1014M⊙, which implies a HSE-to-lensing bias consistent with 0 within 20%.

Abstract
New observations of the edge-on galaxy NGC 891, at 1.15 and 2mm obtained with the IRAM 30-m telescope and the NIKA2 camera, within the framework of the IMEGIN (Interpreting the Millimetre Emission of Galaxies with IRAM and NIKA2) Large Program, are presented in this work. By using multiwavelength maps (from the mid-IR to the cm wavelengths) we perform SED fitting in order to extract the physical properties of the galaxy on both global and local (~kpc) scales. For the interpretation of the observations we make use of a state-of-the-art SED fitting code, HerBIE (HiERarchical Bayesian Inference for dust Emission). The observations indicate a galaxy morphology, at mm wavelengths, similar to that of the cold dust emission traced by submm observations and to that of the molecular gas. The contribution of the radio emission at the NIKA2 bands is very small (negligible at 1.15 mm and ~ 10% at 2 mm) while it dominates the total energy budget at longer wavelengths (beyond 5 mm). On local scales, the distribution of the free-free emission resembles that of the dust thermal emission while the distribution of the synchrotron emission shows a deficiency along the major axis of the disc of the galaxy.

Abstract
The NIKA2 Guaranteed-Time SZ Large Program (LPSZ) is dedicated to the high-angular resolution SZ mapping of a representative sample of 45 SZ-selected galaxy clusters drawn from the catalogues of the Planck satellite, or of the Atacama Cosmology Telescope. The LPSZ sample spans a mass range from 3 to 11 × 1014M⊙ and a redshift range from 0:5 to 0:9, extending to higher redshift and lower mass the previous samples dedicated to the cluster mass calibration and universal properties estimation. The main goals of the LPSZ are the measurement of the average radial profile of the ICM pressure up to R500 by combining NIKA2 with Planck or ACT data, and the estimation of the scaling law between the SZ observable and the mass using NIKA2, XMM-Newton and Planck/ACT data. Furthermore, combining LPSZ data with existing or forthcoming public data in lensing, optical/NIR or radio domains, we will build a consistent picture of the cluster physics and further gain knowledge on the mass estimate as a function of the cluster morphology and dynamical state.
We give an overview of the LPSZ, present recent results and discuss the future implication for cosmology with galaxy clusters.

Abstract
As the possible progenitors of passive galaxies at z=2-3, dusty starforming galaxies (DSFGs) at z>4 provide a unique perspective to study the formation, assembly, and early quenching of massive galaxies in the early Universe. The extreme obscuration in optical-IR makes (sub)mm spectral scans the most universal and unbiased way to confirm/exclude the high-z nature of candidate dusty star-forming galaxies. We present here the status of the NIKA2 Cosmological Legacy Survey (N2CLS), which is the deepest wide-area singledish survey in the millimeter searching for high-z DSFGs. We also introduce a joint-analysis method to effciently search for the spectroscopic redshift of high-z DSFGs with noisy spectra and photometric data and present its success in identifying the redshift of DSFGs found in NIKA2 science verification data.

Abstract
In the past decade filaments have been recognised as a major structural element of the interstellar medium, the densest of these filaments hosting the formation of most stars. In some star-forming molecular clouds converging networks of filaments, also known as hub filament systems, can be found. These hubs are believed to be preferentially associated to massive star formation. As of today, there are no metrics that allow the systematic quantification of a filament network convergence. Here, we used the IRAM 30m NIKA2 observations of the Galactic plane from the GASTON large programme to systematically identify filaments and produce a filament convergence parameter map. We use such a map to show that: i. hub filaments represent a small fraction of the global filament population; ii. hubs host, in proportion, more massive and more luminous compact sources that non-hubs; iii. hub-hosting clumps are more evolved that non-hubs; iv. no discontinuities are observed in the properties of compact sources as a function of convergence parameter. We propose that the rapid global collapse of clumps is responsible for (re)organising filament networks into hubs and, in parallel, enhancing the mass growth of compact sources.

Abstract
PSZ2 G091.83+26.11 is a massive galaxy cluster with M500 = 7:43 × 1014M⊙ at z = 0:822. This object exhibits a complex morphology with a clear bimodality observed in X-rays. However, it was detected and analysed in the Planck sample as a single, spherical cluster following a universal profile [1]. This model can lead to miscalculations of thermodynamical quantities, like the pressure profile. As future multiwavelength cluster experiments will detect more and more objects at higher redshifts (where we expect the fraction of merging objects to be higher), it is crucial to quantify this systematic effect. In this work, we use high-resolution observations of PSZ2 G091.83+26.11 by the NIKA2 camera to integrate the morphological characteristics of the cluster in our modelling. This is achieved by fitting a two-halo model to the SZ image and then by reconstruction of the resulting projected pressure profile. We then compare these results with the spherical assumption.

Abstract
High-mass stars (m* ≳ 8 M⊙) play a crucial role in the evolution of galaxies, and so it is imperative that we understand how they are formed. We have used the New IRAM KIDs Array 2 (NIKA2) camera on the Institut de Radio Astronomie Millimétrique (IRAM) 30-m telescope to conduct high-sensitivity continuum mapping of ~ 2 deg2 of the Galactic plane (GP) as part of the Galactic Star Formation with NIKA2 (GASTON) large program. We have identified a total of 1467 clumps within our deep 1.15 mm continuum maps and, by using overlapping continuum, molecular line, and maser parallax data, we have determined their distances and physical properties. By placing them upon an approximate evolutionary sequence based upon 8 μm Spitzer imaging, we find evidence that the most massive dense clumps accrete material from their surrounding environment during their early evolution, before dispersing as star formation advances, supporting clump-fed models of high-mass star formation.

Abstract
Using the NIKA2 dual band millimeter camera installed on the IRAM30m telescope, we have mapped a relatively large field (~ 70 arcmin2) in the direction of the star GJ526 to investigate the nature of the sources found with the MAMBO camera at 1.2 mm ten years earlier. We have found that they must be dust-obscured galaxies (SMGs) in the background beyond the star. The new NIKA2 map at 1.15 mm reveals additional sources and, in fact, an overdensity of SMGs predominantly distributed along a filament-like structure in projection on the sky across the whole observed field. We speculate this might be a cosmic filament at high redshift as revealed in cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. Measurement of spectroscopic redshifts of the SMGs in the candidate filament is required now for a definitive confirmation of the nature of the structure.

Abstract
The quest for primordial gravitational waves enclosed in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization B-modes signal motivates the development of a new generation of high sensitive experiments (e.g. CMBS4, LiteBIRD), thus allowing to probe the inflationary epoch in the early Universe. However, this will be only possible by ensuring a high control of the instrumental systematic effects and an accurate absolute calibration of the polarization angle.
The Crab nebula is known to be a polarization calibrator on the sky for CMB experiments. Already used for the Planck satellite it exhibits a high polarized signal at microwave wavelengths. In this work we present Crab polarization observations obtained, in the 260 GHz frequency band, with the NIKA2 instrument. Furthermore, we discuss the accuracy needed on such a measurement to improve the constraints on the absolute angle calibration for CMB experiments.

Abstract
Starting from the clusters included in the NIKA sample and in the NIKA2 Sunyaev-Zel’dovich Large Program (LPSZ) we have selected a sample of six common objects with the Cluster Lensing And Supernova survey with Hubble (CLASH) lensing data. For the LPSZ clusters we have at our disposal both high-angular resolution observations of the thermal SZ with NIKA and NIKA2 and X-ray observations with XMM-Newton from which hydrostatic mass estimates can be derived. In addition, the CLASH dataset includes lensing convergence maps that can be converted into lensing estimates of the total mass of the cluster. One-dimensional mass profiles are used to derive integrated mass estimates accounting for systematic effects (data processing, modeling, etc.). Two-dimensional analysis of the maps can reveal substructures in the cluster and, therefore, inform us about the dynamical state of each system. Moreover, we are able to study the hydrostatic mass to lensing mass bias, across different morphology and a range of redshift clusters to give more insight on the hydrostatic mass bias. The analysis presented in this proceeding follows the study discussed in [20].

Abstract
We present preliminary results from an on-going program that aims at mapping the intracluster medium (ICM) temperature of high redshift galaxy clusters from the MaDCoWS sample using a joint analysis of shallow X-ray data obtained by Chandra and high angular resolution Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) observations realized with the NIKA2 and MUSTANG-2 cameras. We also present preliminary results from an on-going Open Time program within the NIKA2 collaboration that aims at mapping the ICM temperature of a galaxy cluster at z = 0.45 from the resolved detection of the relativistic corrections to the SZ spectrum. These studies demonstrate how high angular resolution SZ observations will play a major role in the coming decade to push the investigation of ICM dynamics and non-gravitational processes to high redshift before the next generation X-ray observatories come into play.

Abstract
Interstellar dust plays an important role in the formation of molecular gas and the heating and cooling of the interstellar medium. The spatial distribution of the mm-wavelength dust emission from galaxies is largely unexplored. The NIKA2 Guaranteed Time Project IMEGIN (Interpreting the Millimeter Emission of Galaxies with IRAM and NIKA2) has recently mapped the mm emission in the grand design spiral galaxy NGC6946. By subtracting the contributions from the free-free, synchrotron, and CO line emission, we map the distribution of the pure dust emission at 1:15mm and 2mm. Separating the arm/interarm regions, we find a dominant 2mm emission from interarms indicating the significant role of the general interstellar radiation field in heating the cold dust. Finally, we present maps of the dust mass, temperature, and emissivity index using the Bayesian MCMC modeling of the spectral energy distribution in NGC6946.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to compare knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) regarding COVID-19 between public health workers (PHWs) attended field epidemiology training program (FETP-trained) and those who did not attend FETP (non-FETP trained). METHODS Multi-country cross-sectional survey was conducted among PHWs who participated in COVID-19 pandemic in 10 countries at EMR. Online questionnaire that included demographic information, KAP regarding COVID-19 pandemic was distributed among HCWs. Scoring system was used to quantify the answers, bivariate and Multivariate analysis performed to compare FETP-trained with non-FETP trained PHWs. RESULTS Overall, 1337 PHWs participated, with 835 (62.4%) < 40 years of age, and 851 (63.6%) males. Of them, 423 (31.6%) had FETP, including that 189 (44.7%) had advanced level, 155 (36.6%) intermediate and 79 (18.7%) basic level training. Compared with non-FETP trained, FETP trained were older, having higher KAP scores. FETP participation was low in infection control, and PH laboratories. KAP mean scores for intermediate level attendees are comparable to advanced level. CONCLUSIONS FETP-trained are having better KAP than non-FETP PHWs. Expanding the intermediate level, maintain the Rapid Response training and introduce the laboratory component are recommended to maximize the benefit from FETP. Infection control, antimicrobial resistance and coordination are areas where training should include.

Introduction
Hip fractures are common, with most requiring surgical management. Blood loss occurs from the fracture and intraoperatively. Often, blood transfusions are required. Hip fractures can be classified by their anatomy: intracapsular, intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures. This study assesses the effect of fracture pattern and operation performed on transfusion rates within our centre. We aim to identify the patients most likely to require transfusion early, to improve outcomes.
Method
A retrospective cohort study of 324 consecutive hip fracture patients presenting to a district general hospital over one year. Data was collected from electronic patient records, the local transfusion laboratory, and the national hip fracture database.
Results
324 hip fractures were divided into 188 (58%) intracapsular, 121 (37%) intertrochanteric and 15 (5%) subtrochanteric fractures. The most common operation performed was hemiarthroplasty (128), followed by dynamic hip screw fixation (75). 75 (23%) of all patients received a blood transfusion. 28 (15%) of intracapsular, 42 (35%) of intertrochanteric and 5 (33%) of subtrochanteric fractures received transfusions. 47% of long intramedullary nails, 45% of short intramedullary nails, 29% of dynamic hip screws, 18% of hemiarthroplasties and 9% of total hip arthroplasties resulted in blood transfusions. One-year mortality in the transfused cohort was 52% and 30.5% in non-transfused.
Conclusions
Almost a quarter of hip fracture patients received a blood transfusion, which was associated with an increased risk of mortality. Intertrochanteric fractures most commonly led to a transfusion. The operation most associated with transfusions were long intramedullary nailings, and total hip arthroplasties were the least.

BACKGROUND The establishment of empirical evidence in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) necessitates the implementation of wide-scale studies to describe the demographic, clinical features, and severity profile of COVID-19 patients. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess the patterns of COVID-19 severity and mortality in seven countries and to determine the risk factors of COVID-19 severity and mortality. METHODS This multi-country study was based on a retrospective review of medical records of hospitalized patients confirmed to have COVID-19. This study included data from Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan, Somalia, Morocco, Egypt, and Yemen. All demographic and clinical data were extracted from hospital records (paper files) by trained data collectors. RESULTS A total of 4141 patients were included in this study from seven countries. Comorbidities were reported by nearly half of the patients, with hypertension (HT) (24.7%) and diabetes (22.7%) being the most common. Older age, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and heart diseases were significantly associated with COVID-19 severity and mortality. Ever smoking and renal diseases were significantly associated with severity but not mortality, while male gender, respiratory diseases, and malignancy were significantly associated with mortality but not severity. CONCLUSIONS The study confirmed the role of comorbidities and demographic features on the severity and mortality of COVID-19. Understanding the contributing factors ensures attentive care and informs clinical management of patients with poorer prognoses in the early stages of diseases.

Abstract
IntroductionEmotional face recognition is significant for social communication. This is impaired in mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder. Individuals with bipolar disorder lack the ability to perceive facial expressions.ObjectivesTo analyse the capacity of emotional face recognition in subjects diagnosed with bipolar disorder.AimsTo establish a correlation between emotion recognition ability and the evolution of bipolar disease.MethodsA sample of 24 subjects were analysed in this trial, diagnosed with bipolar disorder (according to ICD-10 criteria), who were hospitalised in the Psychiatry Clinic of Timisoara and monitored in outpatients clinic. Subjects were introduced in the trial based on inclusion/exclusion criteria. The analysed parameters were: socio-demographic (age, gender, education level), the number of relapses, the predominance of manic or depressive episodes, and the ability of identifying emotions (Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test).ResultsMost of the subjects (79.16%) had a low ability to identify emotions, 20.83% had a normal capacity to recognise emotions, and none of them had a high emotion recognition capacity. The positive emotions (love, joy, surprise) were easier recognised, by 75% of the subjects, than the negative ones (anger, sadness, fear). There was no evident difference in emotional face recognition between the individuals with predominance of manic episodes than the ones who had mostly depressive episodes, and between the number of relapses.ConclusionsThe individuals with bipolar disorder have difficulties in identifying facial emotions, but with no obvious correlation between the analysed parameters.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract
Understanding where and when the mass of stars is determined is one of the fundamental, mostly unsolved, questions in astronomy. Here, we present the first results of GASTON, the Galactic Star Formation with NIKA2 large programme on the IRAM 30m telescope, that aims to identify new populations of low-brightness sources to tackle the question of stellar mass determination across all masses. In this paper, we focus on the high-mass star formation part of the project, for which we map a ~ 2 deg2 region of the Galactic plane around l = 24° in both 1.2 mm and 2.0 mm continuum. Half-way through the project, we reach a sensitivity of 3.7 mJy/beam at 1.2mm. Even though larger than our target sensitivity of 2 mJy, the current sensitivity already allows the identification of a new population of cold, compact sources that remained undetected in any (sub-)mm Galactic plane survey so far. In fact, about 25% of the ~ 1600 compact sources identified in the 1.2mm GASTON image are new detections. We present a preliminary analysis of the physical properties of the GASTON sources as a function of their evolutionary stage, arguing for a potential evolution of the mass distribution of these sources with time.

Abstract
The main limiting factor of cosmological analyses based on thermal Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) cluster statistics comes from the bias and systematic uncertainties that affect the estimates of the mass of galaxy clusters. High-angular resolution SZ observations at high redshift are needed to study a potential redshift or morphology dependence of both the mean pressure profile and of the mass-observable scaling relation used in SZ cosmological analyses. The NIKA2 camera is a new generation continuum instrument installed at the IRAM 30-m telescope. With a large field of view, a high angular resolution and a high-sensitivity, the NIKA2 camera has unique SZ mapping capabilities. In this paper, we present the NIKA2 SZ large program, aiming at observing a large sample of clusters at redshifts between 0.5 and 0.9, and the characterization of the first cluster oberved with NIKA2.

Abstract
We present the results of the analysis of the very massive cluster MOO J1142+1527 at a redshift z = 1.2 based on high angular resolution NIKA2 Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) andChandraX-ray data. This multi-wavelength analysis enables us to estimate the shape of the temperature profile with unprecedented precision at this redshift and to obtain a map of the gas entropy distribution averaged along the line of sight. The comparison between the cluster morphological properties observed in the NIKA2 andChandramaps together with the analysis of the entropy map allows us to conclude that MOOJ1142+1527 is an on-going merger hosting a cool-core at the position of the X-ray peak. This work demonstrates how the addition of spatially-resolved SZ observations to low signal-to-noise X-ray data can bring valuable insights on the intracluster medium thermodynamic properties atz>1.

Abstract
The NIKA2 polarization channel at 260 GHz (1.15 mm) has been proposed primarily to observe galactic star-forming regions and probe the critical scales between 0.01-0.05 pc at which magnetic field lines may channel the matter of interstellar filaments into growing dense cores. The NIKA2 polarime-ter consists of a room temperature continuously rotating multi-mesh HWP and a cold polarizer that separates the two orthogonal polarizations onto two 260 GHz KIDs arrays. We describe in this paper the preliminary results obtained during the most recent commissioning campaign performed in December 2018. We concentrate here on the analysis of the extended sources, while the observation of compact sources is presented in a companion paper [12]. We present preliminary NIKA2 polarization maps of the Crab nebula. We find that the integrated polarization intensity flux measured by NIKA2 is consistent with expectations. In terms of polarization angle, we are still limited by systematic uncertainties that will be further investigated in the forthcoming commissioning campaigns.

Abstract
Clarifying the role of magnetic fields in the star formation process is crucial. Observations have already shown that magnetic fields play an important role in the early stages of star formation. The high spatial resolution (∼0.01 to 0.05 pc) provided by NIKA2-Pol 1.2 mm imaging polarimetry of nearby clouds will help us clarify the geometry of the B-field within dense cores and molecular filaments as part of the IRAM 30m large program B-FUN. There are numerous challenging issues in the validation of NIKA2-Pol such as the calibration of instrumental polarization. The commissioning phase of NIKA2-Pol is underway and is helping us characterize the intensity-to-polarization “leakage” pattern of the instrument. We present a preliminary analysis of the leakage pattern and its dependence with elevation. We also present the current leakage correction made possible by the NIKA2 pipeline in polarization mode based on the NIKA2-Pol commissioning data taken in December 2018. Based on reduced Stokes I, Q, U data we find that the leakage pattern of NIKA2-Pol depends on elevation and is sensitive to the focus of the telescope.

Abstract
The new NIKA2 camera at the IRAM 30m radiotelescope was used to observe three known debris disks in order to constrain the SED of their dust emission in the millimeter wavelength domain. We have found that the spectral index between the two NIKA2 bands (1mm and 2mm) is consistent with the Rayleigh-Jeans regime (λ-2), unlike the steeper spectra (λ-3) measured in the submillimeter-wavelength domain for two of the three disks - around the stars Vega and HD107146. We provide a succesful proof of concept to model this spectral inversion in using two populations of dust grains, those smaller and those larger than a grain radius a0 of 0.5mm. This is obtained in breaking the slope of the size distribution and the functional form of the absorption coefficient of the standard model. The third disk - around the star HR8799 - does not exhibit this spectral inversion but is also the youngest.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim was to analyse the impact of cirrhosis on short-term outcomes after laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) in a multicentre national cohort study. METHODS This retrospective study included all patients undergoing LLR in 27 centres between 2000 and 2017. Cirrhosis was defined as F4 fibrosis on pathological examination. Short-term outcomes of patients with and without liver cirrhosis were compared after propensity score matching by centre volume, demographic and tumour characteristics, and extent of resection. RESULTS Among 3150 patients included, LLR was performed in 774 patients with (24·6 per cent) and 2376 (75·4 per cent) without cirrhosis. Severe complication and mortality rates in patients with cirrhosis were 10·6 and 2·6 per cent respectively. Posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) developed in 3·6 per cent of patients with cirrhosis and was the major cause of death (11 of 20 patients). After matching, patients with cirrhosis tended to have higher rates of severe complications (odds ratio (OR) 1·74, 95 per cent c.i. 0·92 to 3·41; P = 0·096) and PHLF (OR 7·13, 0·91 to 323·10; P = 0·068) than those without cirrhosis. They also had a higher risk of death (OR 5·13, 1·08 to 48·61; P = 0·039). Rates of cardiorespiratory complications (P = 0·338), bile leakage (P = 0·286) and reoperation (P = 0·352) were similar in the two groups. Patients with cirrhosis had a longer hospital stay than those without (11 versus 8 days; P = 0·018). Centre expertise was an independent protective factor against PHLF in patients with cirrhosis (OR 0·33, 0·14 to 0·76; P = 0·010). CONCLUSION Underlying cirrhosis remains an independent risk factor for impaired outcomes in patients undergoing LLR, even in expert centres.

Abstract
The steps taken to tailor to NIKA2 observations the Scanamorphos algorithm (initially developed to subtract low-frequency noise from Herschel on-the-fly observations) are described, focussing on the consequences of the different instrument architecture and observation strategy. The method, making the most extensive use of the redundancy built in the multi-scan coverage with large arrays of a given region of the sky, is applicable to extended sources, while the pipeline is so far optimized for compact sources. An example of application is given. A related tool to build consistent broadband SEDs from 60 microns to 2 mm, combining Herschel and NIKA2 data, has also been developed. Its main task is to process the data least affected by low-frequency noise and coverage limitations (i.e. the Herschel data) through the same transfer function as the NIKA2 data, simulating the same scan geometry and applying the same noise and atmospheric signal as extracted from the 1mm and 2mm data.

Abstract
We present here the polarization system of the NIKA camera and give a summary of the main results obtained and performed studies on Orion and the Crab nebula. The polarization system was equipped with a room temperature continuously rotating multi-mesh half wave plate and a grid polarizer facing the NIKA cryostat window. NIKA even though less sensitive than NIKA2 had polarization capability in both 1 and 2 millimiter bands. NIKA polarization observations demonstrated the ability of such a technology in detecting the polarization of different targets, compact and extended sources like the Crab nebula and Orion Molecular Cloud region OMC-1. These measurements together with the developed techniques to deal with systematics, opened the way to the current observations of NIKA2 in polarization that will provide important advances in the studies of galactic and extra-galactic emission and magnetic fields.

Abstract
Clusters of galaxies, the largest bound objects in the Universe, constitute a cosmological probe of choice, which is sensitive to both dark matter and dark energy. Within this framework, the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effect has opened a new window for the detection of clusters of galaxies and for the characterization of their physical properties such as mass, pressure and temperature. NIKA, a KID-based dual band camera installed at the IRAM 30-m telescope, was particularly well adapted in terms of frequency, angular resolution, field-of-view and sensitivity, for the mapping of the thermal and kinetic SZ effect in high-redshift clusters. In this paper, we present the NIKA cluster sample and a review of the main results obtained via the measurement of the SZ effect on those clusters: reconstruction of the cluster radial pressure profile, mass, temperature and velocity.

Abstract
High-resolution mapping of the hot gas in galaxy clusters is a key tool for cluster-based cosmological analyses. Taking advantage of the NIKA2 millimeter camera operated at the IRAM 30-m telescope, the NIKA2 SZ Large Program seeks to get a high-resolution follow-up of 45 galaxy clusters covering a wide mass range at high redshift in order to re-calibrate some of the tools needed for the cosmological exploitation of SZ surveys. We present the second cluster analysis of this program, targeting one of the faintest sources of the sample in order to tackle the difficulties in data reduction for such faint, low-SNR clusters. In this study, the main challenge is the precise estimation of the contamination by sub-millimetric point sources, which greatly affects the tSZ map of the cluster. We account for this contamination by performing a joint fit of the SZ signal and of the flux density of the compact sources. A prior knowledge of these fluxes is given by the adjustment of the SED of each source using data from both NIKA2 and the Herschel satellite. The first results are very promising and demonstrate the possibility to estimate thermodynamic properties with NIKA2, even in a compact cluster heavily contaminated by point sources.

Abstract
The presence of an anesthesiologist and certified registered nurse anesthesiologist in the operating room remains a topic of discussion in many facilities. This article provides an overview on the legislation and recommendations on this topic and recounts some of the related jurisprudence. The opinions of various actors, surgeons, anesthesiologists, anesthesiology-intensive care physicians, certified registered nurse anesthesiologists, care-facility directors and insurance companies are included. Based on these elements, we attempt to answer the question of presence of competence in anesthesiology in the operating room.

Abstract
Background It is not known whether perioperative chemotherapy, compared with adjuvant chemotherapy alone, improves disease‐free survival (DFS) in patients with upfront resectable colorectal liver metastases (CLM). The aim of this study was to estimate the impact of neoadjuvant 5‐fluorouracil, leucovorin and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) on DFS in patients with upfront resectable CLM. Methods Consecutive patients who presented with up to five resectable CLM at two Japanese and two French centres in 2008–2015 were included in the study. Both French institutions favoured perioperative FOLFOX, whereas the two Japanese groups systematically preferred upfront surgery plus adjuvant chemotherapy. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) and Cox regression multivariable models were used to adjust for confounding. The primary outcome was DFS. Results Some 300 patients were included: 151 received perioperative chemotherapy and 149 had upfront surgery plus adjuvant chemotherapy. The weighted 3‐year DFS rate was 33·5 per cent after perioperative chemotherapy compared with 27·1 per cent after upfront surgery plus adjuvant chemotherapy (hazard ratio (HR) 0·85, 95 per cent c.i. 0·62 to 1·16; P = 0·318). For the subgroup of 165 patients who received adjuvant FOLFOX successfully (for at least 3 months), the adjusted effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy was not significant (HR 1·19, 0·74 to 1·90; P = 0·476). No significant effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy was observed in multivariable regression analysis. Conclusion Compared with adjuvant chemotherapy, perioperative FOLFOX does not improve DFS in patients with resectable CLM, provided adjuvant chemotherapy is given successfully.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report cases of patients with severe bilateral corneal blindness and recurrent refractory perforation to keratoplasty and conventional treatment, for whom Boston keratoprosthesis (KP) was a satisfactory alternative when combined with a temporalis aponeurosis graft. DESCRIPTION OF CASES The first patient had progressive Lyell syndrome with spontaneous corneal perforation. The second had a severe graft vs. host reaction with a persistent Seidel-positive descemetocele. Despite repeated penetrating keratoplasties, amniotic membrane (AM) transplantations, and buccal mucosal (BM) grafts, they both experienced recurrent corneal perforation. The only solution thus appeared to be Boston Type I KP surgery. One month postoperatively, the first patient had to receive a temporalis aponeurosis (TA) graft, due to thinning of the recipient graft. Six months postoperatively, his visual acuity (VA) was 1/10 without correction, and the corneal status had been stabilized. The second patient underwent KP and TA graft concurrently. Six months after surgery, VA was 2/10 uncorrected, and the local inflammation had been stabilized. OBSERVATION Boston type I keratoprostheses constitute an alternative in cases of severe bilateral corneal blindness with perforation refractory to conventional treatment and surgery, with satisfactory visual results. DISCUSSION Patients with preoperative severe ocular surface disease are at greater risk of postoperative keratolysis. For our patients with a higher risk, TA graft prevented corneal melt. TA seems to be more effective than AM or BM in preventing corneal thinning or melt. CONCLUSION We would recommend performing a TA graft in combination with Boston KP surgery concurrently as first line treatment in eyes with severe ocular surface inflammation.

Abstract
We report cases of delayed, sustained elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with repeated intravitreal anti-VEGF injections (IVI), which ultimately resulted in the need for filtering surgery. Two of the three cases demonstrated severe IOP elevation despite maximal medical treatment following unilateral IVI and required urgent filtering surgery. Optic nerve involvement was severe in all three cases. These intravitreal injections were performed for exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and the patients did not show any sign of glaucoma or ocular hypertension prior to the initiation of treatment. Elevated IOP secondary to intravitreal steroids is a well-known side effect, as is immediate transient IOP elevation associated with anti-VEGF injection. Late, sustained IOP elevation after repeated injections of anti-VEGF, described approximately ten years ago, is often underestimated. Its incidence is estimated between 2.1% and 13% according to studies and increases with the number of IVI (cumulative effect). The pathophysiologic process is becoming increasingly understood, and several risk factors for this chronic IOP elevation have been identified. Most often, it is a moderate IOP elevation for which topical monotherapy is sufficient, or sometimes two, three or four medications or even selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). However, filtering surgery may rarely be required. Our findings illustrate a little-described phenomenon: a sudden, severe, late IOP elevation in response to anti-VEGF by an "overflow" effect, requiring urgent filtering surgery.

Abstract
Cold storage of organs in preservation solutions, such as Institute George Lopez 1 (IGL-1) or histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK), is a mandatory step for organ transplantation. This preservation leads to an ischemic injury that affects the outcome of the organ. This article studies the liver graft eluate after organ recovery using IGL-1 or HTK solutions. We explore the influence of the volume used for washing out the liver and the consequences in the graft preservation when both solutions are used. Livers were washed out with different volumes of HTK and IGL-1 according to manufacturers' instructions and then preserved in both solutions for 24 hours at 4°C. Tissue and eluates were collected for subsequent analyses. We measured transaminases (aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase), histology by hematoxylin/eosin staining, and red blood cell and hemoglobin counts, respectively. After washing out and cold storage, the IGL-1 processed livers showed better preservation than those with HTK solution; however, in this latter case, an important accumulation of erythrocytes was found when compared to IGL-1. These data were consistent with the higher hemoglobin and red blood cell counts observed for IGL-1 eluates after 24 hours. The volume used for washing out the organ depends on the composition and properties of the organ preservation solutions (ie, IGL-1 and HTK); this is an important factor for the graft cold preservation. The total volume used for washing out the graft should be considered because it has a direct impact on the total cost for clinical transplantations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Indications for surgical resection of non-colorectal, non-neuroendocrine (NCNNE) liver metastases are unclear. This study analysed the influence of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and the presence of extrahepatic disease (EHD) on outcomes. METHODS Patients who underwent hepatic resection for NCNNE liver metastases and who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy at a single centre between 1982 and 2016 were analysed retrospectively. Patients were classified as having no EHD, controlled EHD or non-controlled EHD. RESULTS Hepatic resection was performed in 199 patients (81·2 per cent) after partial or complete response to chemotherapy or disease stabilization, and 46 patients (18·8 per cent) after tumour progression. Patients with progressive disease after chemotherapy had worse overall survival than those without (23 versus 50·4 per cent at 5 years; P = 0·004). Median survival was 63·6 (range 31·1-94·8) months for patients without EHD, 34·8 (19·2-49·2) months for those with controlled EHD and 7·2 (1·2-13·2) months for patients with non-controlled EHD (P = 0·004). In multivariable analysis, EHD (P = 0·004), response to chemotherapy (P = 0·004) and resection margins (P = 0·002) were all independent predictors of overall survival, regardless of primary tumour site. CONCLUSION The prognosis of patients with NCNNE liver metastases is influenced by preoperative chemotherapy and resectability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Resection of breast cancer liver metastases (BCLM) combined with systemic treatment is increasingly accepted but not offered as therapeutic option. New evidence of the additional value of surgery in these patients is scarce while prognoses without surgery remains poor. PATIENTS AND METHODS For this case matched analysis, all nationally registered patients with BCLM confined to the liver in the Netherlands (systemic group; N = 523) were selected and compared with patients who received systemic treatment and underwent hepatectomy (resection group; N = 139) at a hepatobiliary centre in France. Matching was based on age, decade when diagnosed, interval to metastases, maximum metastases size, single or multiple tumours, chemotherapy, hormonal or targeted therapy after diagnosis. Based on published guidelines, palliative systemic treatment strategies are similar in both European countries. RESULTS Between 1983 and 2013, 3894 patients were screened for inclusion. Overall median follow-up was 80 months (95% CI 70-90 months). The median, 3- and 5-year overall survival of the whole population was 19 months, 29% and 19%, respectively. The resection and systemic group had median survival of 73 vs. 13 months (P < 0.001), respectively. Three and 5-year survival was 18% and 10% for the systemic group and 75% and 54% for the resection group, respectively. After matching, the resection group had a median overall survival of 82 months with a 3- and 5-year overall survival of 81% and 69%, respectively, compared with a median overall survival of 31 months in the systemic group with a 3- and 5-year overall survival of 32% and 24%, respectively (HR 0.28, 95% CI 0.15-0.52; P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS For patients with BCLM, liver resection combined with systemic treatment results in improved overall survival compared to systemic treatment alone. Liver resection should be considered in selected cases.
