Abstract
Objective: To explore high-risk sexual behaviors of HIV/AIDS and related factors in young students in Guangzhou. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 5 different types of Guangzhou colleges by convenience sampling with minimum number of classes per grade and 600 samples per school from September to November 2021. The R 4.2.2 software was used to consolidate databases. Simultaneously, a logistic regression model and a decision tree algorithm model, stratifying by whether sexual behaviors had occurred before, were constructed. In each layer, the prediction performance of the two models was evaluated through area under receiver operating characteristic and the confusion matrix, and then the model with high prediction performance was retained. Results: A total of 7 346 students were surveyed. The proportion of the respondents reporting sexual experience were 9.08% (667/7 346), in whom 26.24% (175/667) had risky sexual activity in the past year. The decision tree algorithm model performs well in predicting whether high-risk sexual behaviors have occurred in the past year. When the complexity parameter value is 0.018, and nsplit reaches 4, which means there are 5 leaf nodes in the model, the cross error of the tree will be the smallest. The first best grouping variable in the decision tree was whether to use condoms throughout the first sexual behavior. If condoms were used at their sexual debut, but homosexual practices have occurred in the past year, the probability of risky sexual behavior will increase. If homosexual practices have not occurred in the past year, but the age of sexual debut was below 18 years old while the period of HIV education was after high school, the probability of risk sexual behavior will also increase. Conclusions: AIDS-related risky behaviors of young students still deserved attention. The experience of sexual debut and whether AIDS-related health education has been received before the sexual debut were significant predictors for the occurrence of high-risk sexual behavior. The decision tree algorithm model has particular applicability for predicting and screening potential risk populations.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the risk perception for risky behavior of HIV/AIDS infection among young students and to analyze the related influencing factors. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 5 different types of Guangzhou colleges from September to November 2021, in which convenience sampling and a minimum number of classes per grade and 600 samples per school were used according to the national unity program. Disordered multi-classification logistic regression was used to construct a risk perception model and analyze influencing factors in different risk perception levels. Results: A total of 7 346 young students were surveyed, and most rated themselves at low risk of HIV/AIDS infections (90.58%, 6 654/7 346). A total of 89.10% (6 545/7 346) of subjects' perception of their HIV/AIDS infection risk was consistent with their risk behavior, while 10.90% (801/7 346) was inconsistent. Among those inconsistent subjects, 19.10% (153/801) showed underestimating their risk , while 80.90% (648/801) seen overestimating their risk. Disordered multi-classification logistic regression analysis showed that, after controlling for other factors, compared with the non-sexual group, respondents whose first sex age under 18 had a higher rate of underestimating their risk of infection (OR=129.39, 95%CI: 73.28-228.48), as well as a higher rate of overestimated their risk of infection (OR=1.76, 95%CI: 1.04-2.99). First sexual intercourse at age 18 or older was a risk factor for underestimating risk (OR=70.56, 95%CI: 42.72-116.53), but was not statistically associated with overestimating risk. Being female, other school type, non-heterosexual orientation, and self-rated HIV-related knowledge as fair or no knowledge were risk factors for overestimating risk but were not statistically associated with underestimating risk. Conclusions: Overall, young students in universities of Guangzhou have a good risk perception of HIV/AIDS infection. Individual factors, education factors and sexual experience will influence students' risk perception of HIV/AIDS infection. Raising the awareness rate of HIV/AIDS knowledge and delaying the age of first sexual intercourse will improve the risk perception ability of young students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND (+)-Nootkatone is a highly valuable sesquiterpene compound that can be used as an aromatic in the food industry because of its grapefruit flavor and low sensory threshold. The unconventional yeast Yarrowia lipolytica has many unique physical and chemical properties, metabolic characteristics, and genetic structure, which has aroused the interest of researchers. Previous research showed that Y. lipolytica possesses the ability to transform the sesquiterpene (+)-valencene to (+)-nootkatone. The aim of this study was to isolate, purify, and identify the enzyme involved in the (+)-valencene bioconversion to (+)-nootkatone by Y. lipolytica. RESULTS In this study, ultrasonic-assisted extraction, ammonium sulfate precipitation, anion-exchange chromatography, and gel-filtration chromatography were used to separate and purify the enzyme involved in the (+)-valencene bioconversion by Y. lipolytica. The protein was identified as aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) (gene0658) using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis. The ALDH had the highest activity when the pH value was 6.0 and the temperature was 30 °C. The activity of ALDH was significantly stimulated by ferrous ions and inhibited by barium, calcium, and magnesium ions. CONCLUSION This is the first time that ALDH was found to participate in (+)-valencene biotransformation by Y. lipolytica. It may be involved in regulating the microbial transformation of (+)-valencene to (+)-nootkatone through redox characteristics. This study provides a theoretical basis and reference for the biological synthesis of citrus flavor (+)-nootkatone. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Objective: Clinical manifestations, imaging findings, pathologic features, and genetic mutations of Chinese adult patients with cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) were analyzed in order to achieve a greater understanding of CTX that can improve early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Methods: Clinical data including medical history, neurologic and auxiliary examinations, imaging findings, and genetic profile were collected for an adult patient with CTX admitted to the Sixth Medical Center of Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital in August 2020. Additionally, a systematic review of genetically diagnosed Chinese adult CTX cases reported in major databases in China and other countries was performed and age of onset, first symptoms, common signs and symptoms, pathologic findings, imaging changes, and gene mutations were analyzed. Results: The proband was a 39-year-old female with extensive, early-onset nervous system manifestations including cognitive dysfunction and ataxia. Systemic lesions included juvenile cataract and a tendon mass. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging revealed cerebral atrophy, symmetric white matter changes predominantly in the pyramidal tract, and lesions in the cerebellar dentate nucleus. A novel homozygous mutation in the sterol-27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1) gene (c.1477-2A>C) was identified. There were no family members with similar clinical presentation although some were carriers of the c.1477-2A>C mutation. The patient showed a good response to deoxycholic acid treatment. Totally there were 56 cases of adult CTX patients in China, mostly in East China (31/56, 55.4%), at a male-to-female ratio of 1.8 to 1. Multiple organs and tissues including nervous system, tendon, lens, lung, and skeletal muscle were affected in these cases. The most common neurologic manifestations were cognitive dysfunction (44/52, 84.6%) and ataxia (44/51, 86.3%). The cases were characterized by early onset, chronic progressive damage of multiple systems, long disease course, and delayed diagnosis, making the disease difficult to manage clinically and resulting in poor prognosis. The 2 most common genetic mutations in Chinese adult CTX patients were c.1263+1G>A and c.379C>T. Exon 2 of the CYP27A1 gene was identified as a mutation hot spot. Conclusions: Chinese adult patients with CTX have complex clinical characteristics, a long diagnostic cycle, and various CYP27A1 gene mutations. Early diagnosis and intervention can improve the prognosis of these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies have found that the addition of plant essential oils to feed had a positive effect on intestinal microflora and immunity in mice. However, the effect of different ways of ingestion of orange essential oil on mice has seldom been reported. In the present study, we investigated the effects of ingestion of orange essential oil by gavage, sniffing and feeding on intestinal microflora and immunity in mice. RESULTS The results obtained showed that a low concentration of essential oil feeding significantly increased the spleen index of mice (P < 0.05). The effect of different ways of ingestion on the thymus index, immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M of mice was not significant (P > 0.05). High and medium concentrations of essential oil feeding increased the level of interleukin-2 in mice (P < 0.05). H+ K+ -ATPase activity was significantly increased in mice fed with gavage and different concentrations of essential oil feed compared to the control group (P < 0.05). The analysis of the results of the microflora in the cecum and colon of mice indicated that the medium concentration of essential oil feeding group and the sniffing group significantly changed the structure of the flora and increased the diversity of the intestinal microflora. All three essential oil ingestion methods increased the abundance of Bacteroidetes and Lactobacillus in the intestine of mice. CONCLUSION Compared with gavage and feeding, sniffing had a significant effect on immunoglobulins in mice. All the three ingestion methods could affect the intestinal microflora of mice and increase the abundance of Lactobacillus. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Objective: To develop a nomogram model for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) category 4 nodules based on serum tumor specific protein 70 (SP70) and conventional laboratory indicators and validate its predictive efficacy. Methods: A case-control study design was used to retrospectively analyze the data of 429 female patients diagnosed with BI-RADS category 4 breast nodules by breast color doppler flow imaging at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2021 to April 2022 with an age range of 16 to 91 years and a median age of 50 years, and the patients were divided into a training cohort (314 patients) and a validation cohort (115 patients) according to the inclusion time successively. Using postoperative pathological findings as the"gold standard", univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the predictor variables used for the model. The nomogram, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and calibration curves were drawn for the prediction model, and the discrimination and calibration of the model were evaluated using the consistency index (C-index) and calibration plots. Results: The postoperative pathological results showed that 286 (66.7%) were malignant nodules and 143 (33.3%) were benign nodules of 429 breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules. The serum SP70 (OR=1.227,95%CI: 1.033-1.458,P=0.020), NLR (OR=1.545,95%CI: 1.047-2.280,P=0.028), LDL-C (OR=2.215, 95%CI: 1.354-3.622, P=0.002), GLU (OR=2.050,95%CI:1.222-3.438,P=0.007), PT (OR=1.383,95%CI: 1.046-1.828,P=0.023), nodule diameter (OR=1.042, 95%CI: 1.008-1.076, P=0.015) and age (OR=1.062,95%CI: 1.011-1.116,P=0.016) were independent risk factors which could be used to distinguish benign and malignant breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules (P<0.05). The nomogram was plotted by the above seven independent variables, and the concordance index (C-index) for the training cohort and validation cohort were 0.842 (95%CI:0.786-0.898) and 0.787 (95%CI:0.687-0.886), respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of using this model to identify benign and malignant breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules in the training and validation cohort were 83.5%, 72.5% and 79.2%, 73.6%, respectively. The calibration curves showed good agreement between the predicted and actual values in the nomogram. Conclusions: This study combined serum SP70, conventional laboratory indicators and breast color doppler flow imaging to develop a nomogram model for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules. The model may have good predictive efficacy and may provide a basis for clinical treatment options, which is beneficial for guiding breast cancer screening and prevention.

Abstract
Nootkatone is an important functional sesquiterpene, which can be obtained by the biotransformation of valencene. It is increasingly important because of its pleasant citrus aroma and physiological effects. Yarrowia lipolytica is beneficial for biotechnology applications and has ability to transform valencene to nootkatone. High-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) was used to isolate and purify the product of nootkatone in this study. The suitable two-phase solvent system was selected and the optimum separation conditions were determined. The partition coefficients of nootkatone and the separation factor between nootkatone and valencene were considered as the indexes. The results showed that there were numerous products during the transformation of valencene by Yarrowia lipolytica, and the content of nootkatone was 13.75%. The obtained nootkatone was separated by HSCCC with a solvent system n-hexane/methanol/water (5/4/1, v/v). The final purity of nootkatone was 91.61 ± 0.20% and the elution time was 290-310 min. The structure of nootkatone was identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), infrared spectrum and nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy (1H NMR). This was the first report on the separation of nootkatone from the fermentation broth by HSCCC. This study proved that HSCCC could be used as an effective method to separate and purify the nootkatone from valencene transformed by Yarrowia lipolytica with n-hexane/methanol/water (5/4/1, v/v).

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the disease burden of pancreatic cancer in major Asian countries and forecast the burden of that in China, which helps to provide reference for the prevention and control of pancreatic cancer. Methods: Data on disease burden of pancreatic cancer among global and major Asian countries from on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 were collected to describe burden distribution through the absolute numbers or standardized rates of incidence, death and disability adjusted life years (DALY) by year, sex and socio-demographic index. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPC) was used to assess the trend of standardized rate. The proportion of deaths attributable to risk factors for pancreatic cancer in 2019 was used to compare by age, sex and region. ARIMA model was performed with R language to predict change of age-standardized incidence and death rates of pancreatic cancer from 2020 to 2029. Results: From 1990 to 2019, the standardized incidence rates of pancreatic cancer in China increased from 3.17/100 000 to 5.78/100 000, and the standardized death rate increased from 3.34/100 000 to 5.99/100 000. The increases exceeded other high-income Asia countries. In the past three decades, the standardized incidence, death and DALY rates of pancreatic cancer in global have increased year by year. Among the major countries in Asia, China has the highest growth rate of disease burden (EAPC of standardized incidence rates=2.32%, 95% CI: 2.10%-2.48% and EAPC of standardized death rate=2.25%, 95% CI: 2.03%-2.42%). In addition, incidence and death rates of pancreatic cancer in China are expected to continue on the rise between 2000 and 2029 by ARIMA model. Incidence rate is expected to increase 15.92% and death rate is expected to increase 15.86%. Conclusions: The standardized incidence and death rates of pancreatic cancer in China increase year by year with an increasing trend for the burden of disease. The disease burden of pancreatic cancer is expected to rise due to the increase and aging of the population. Preventive measures should be adopted to decrease the burden of the pancreatic cancer.

Abstract
Natural products (+)-nootkatone is an important sesquiterpene compound and is widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, agricultural and food industries. The aim of this study was to analyze the differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) during citrus aroma compound (+)-valencene biotransformation to (+)-nootkatone by Yarrowia lipolyticaby with high-throughput LC-MS/MS. A total of 778 proteins were differentially expressed, 385 DEPs were significantly up-regulated and 393 DEPs were markedly down-regulated. It was found that the enzymes transformed (+)-valencene to (+)-nootkatone were mainly existed in yeast intracellular and precipitated under the condition of 30-40 % ammonium sulfate. Most DEPs involved in amino acid and fatty acid metabolism were down-regulated during (+)-valencene biotransformation. The DEPs related to the carbohydrate metabolism, energy metabolism and most of transporter proteins were significantly up-regulated. Furthermore, the key enzymes involved in (+)-valencene transformation might be related to cytochrome P450s (gene2215 and gene2911) and dehydrogenases (gene6493). This is the first time that proteomics was used to investigate the metabolism mechanism of Yarrowia lipolytica during (+)-valencene biotransformation. The proteomic analysis of Yarrowia lipolytica provided a foundation for the molecular regulatory mechanism in the biotransformation to (+)-nootkatone from (+)-valencene.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Natural dihydrocarvone has been widely used in the food, cosmetics, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals industries because of its sensory properties and physiological effects. In our previous study, Klebsiella sp. O852 was shown to be capable of converting limonene to trans-dihydrocarvone with high catalytic efficiency. Thus, it was essential to identify and characterize the functional genes involved in limonene biotransformation using genome sequencing and heterologous expression. RESULTS The 5.49-Mb draft genome sequence of Klebsiella sp. O852 contained 5218 protein-encoding genes. Seven candidate genes participating in the biotransformation of limonene to trans-dihydrocarvone were identified by genome analysis. Heterologous expression of these genes in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) indicated that 0852_GM005124 and 0852_GM003417 could hydroxylate limonene in the six position to yield carveol, carvone and trans-dihydrocarvone. 0852_GM002332 and 0852_GM001602 could catalyze the oxidation of carveol to carvone and trans-dihydrocarvone. 0852_GM000709, 0852_GM001600 and 0852_GM000954 had high carvone reductase activity toward the hydrogenation of carvone to trans-dihydrocarvone. CONCLUSION The results obtained in the present study suggest that the seven genes described above were responsible for converting limonene to trans-dihydrocarvone. The present study contributes to providing a foundation for the industrial production of trans-dihydrocarvone in microbial chassis cells using synthetic biology strategies. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the protective effect of sniffing orange essential oil (OEO) on the formation of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) caused by a high-fat diet. The results confirmed that sniffing OEO could reduce obesity caused by a high-fat diet (HFD) by reducing the levels of triglycerides (TGs), total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). In addition, the observation of liver tissue sections showed that sniffing OEO could reduce lipid accumulation in liver cells. Further analysis by western blot analysis showed that OEO treatment made the expression levels of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) down-regulated and the expression levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPAR-α) and carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1 (CPT-1) up-regulated. These results indicate that the treatment of sniffing OEO could enhance the antioxidant capacity of mice and reduce liver damage caused by a high-fat diet. Furthermore, sniffing OEO could inhibit lipid synthesis and oxidative stress stimulated by a high-fat diet. Overall, OEO treatment had a certain protective effect on NAFLD-related diseases caused by a high-fat diet. Therefore, aromatherapy may be introduced as a treatment of long-term chronic diseases.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the auxiliary diagnostic value of seven tumor-associated autoantibodies (AABs) P53, PGP9.5, SOX2, GAGE7, GBU4-5, MAGEA1 and CAGE in early non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: The case-control study enrolled 195 patients with early NSCLC [71 males and 124 females, aged (55.70±11.78) years old], 114 patients with benign lung disease [44 males and 70 females, aged (52.85±12.31) years old] and 100 healthy subjects [39 males and 61 females, aged (53.62±9.97) years old] from the First Affiliate Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from June 2020 to December 2020. AABs were detected by enzyme-linked-immunosorbent serologic assay (ELISA), and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA),cytokeratin 19-fragments (CYFRA21-1) and neuron specific enolase (NSE) were detected by electrochemiluminescence. The levels of AABs,CEA,CYFRA21-1 and NSE in the 3 groups were compared. Patients with benign lung diseases and healthy subjects were combined into the control group, and the positive rate of each indicator in the NSCLC group and the control group was compared. The diagnostic efficacy of single and combined tests for NSCLC were obtained using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Besides, the relationship between the levels of AABs, CEA, CYFRA21-1 and NSE and their clinicopathological features and preoperative imaging parameters in NSCLC patients was assessed. Results: The levels of SOX2 [0.70 (0.10, 2.40) U/mL] and GBU4-5 [1.30 (0.30, 8.90) U/mL] in NSCLC group were higher than those in benign disease group [SOX2: 0.50 (0.10, 1.60) U/mL, GBU4-5: 0.80 (0.10, 2.30) U/mL, Z values were 27.258 and 45.797; P values were all<0.05] and health control group [SOX2: 0.45 (0.10, 1.08) U/mL, GBU4-5: 0.75 (0.20, 1.78) U/mL, Z values were 32.551 and 40.456; P values were all<0.05], and there was no significant difference between benign disease group and health control group (Z values were 5.293 and 5.340, P values were all>0.05). The levels of CEA [1.75 (1.08, 2.72) U/mL] and CYFRA21-1 [1.81 (1.41, 2.36) U/mL] in NSCLC group were higher than those in healthy control group [CEA: 1.22 (0.68, 1.81) U/mL, CYFRA21-1: 1.43 (1.14, 1.74) U/mL, Z values were 64.100 and 37.597; P values were all<0.05], but there was no significant difference between NSCLC group and benign group [CEA: 1.74 (1.01, 2.51) U/mL, CYFRA21-1: 1.82 (1.45, 2.46) U/mL, Z values were 7.275 and 10.621; P values were all>0.05]. The positive rates of P53, SOX2, GAGE7, GBU4-5 and CEA in NSCLC group were higher than those in the control group [P53: 10.3% vs 0.9%, SOX2: 11.3% vs 2.3%, GAGE7: 11.3% vs 0.5%, GBU4-5: 30.1% vs 5.6%, CEA: 9.7% vs 0.9%, χ2 values were 17.420, 13.242, 22.485, 43.211, 16.255, respectively; P values were all<0.05]. The diagnostic efficiency of the combined detection of seven AABs was better than that of single detection. Seven AABs combined with CEA [area under curve (AUC): 0.732, sensitivity: 64.10%] and with CYFRA21-1 (AUC: 0.737, sensitivity: 58.97%) greatly improved the diagnostic efficiency and sensitivity of CEA (AUC: 0.583, sensitivity: 50.77%) and CYFRA21-1 (AUC: 0.552, sensitivity: 44.10%). The levels of SOX2 and CEA in NSCLC patients were correlated with the degree of tumor invasion (H values were 6.436 and 14.071; P values were all<0.05); the levels of GAGE7 and CEA were correlated with the nodule density (H values were 7.643 and 12.268; P values were all<0.05); and the levels of SOX2, GAGE7, CEA and CYFRA21-1 were all correlated with the nodule size (H values were 10.837, 11.528, 31.835, 20.338; P values were all<0.05). Conclusion: The detection of AABs combined with CEA and CYFRA21-1 is helpful for the early auxiliary diagnosis of NSCLC, and plays an important role in prevention and screening for early lung cancer.

Abstract
Natural products, including essential oils and their components, have been used for their bioactivities. Linalool (2,6-dimethyl-2,7-octadien-6-ol) is an aromatic monoterpene alcohol that is widely found in essential oils and is broadly used in perfumes, cosmetics, household cleaners and food additives. This review covers the sources, physicochemical properties, application, synthesis and bioactivities of linalool. The present study focuses on the bioactive properties of linalool, including anticancer, antimicrobial, neuroprotective, anxiolytic, antidepressant, anti-stress, hepatoprotective, renal protective, and lung protective activity and the underlying mechanisms. Besides this, the therapeutic potential of linalool and the prospect of encapsulating linalool are also discussed. Linalool can induce apoptosis of cancer cells via oxidative stress, and at the same time protects normal cells. Linalool exerts antimicrobial effects through disruption of cell membranes. The protective effects of linalool to the liver, kidney and lung are owing to its anti-inflammatory activity. On account of its protective effects and low toxicity, linalool can be used as an adjuvant of anticancer drugs or antibiotics. Therefore, linalool has a great potential to be applied as a natural and safe alternative therapeutic.

Abstract
(+)-Nootkatone is an important functional sesquiterpene and is comprehensively used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, agricultural and food flavor industries. However, (+)-nootkatone is accumulated trace amounts in plants, and the demand for industry is mainly met by chemical methods which is harmful to the environment. The oxygen-containing sesquiterpenes prepared using microbial methods can be considered as "natural." Microbial transformation has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high efficiency, environmental protection, and strong stereoselectivity, and has become an important method for the production of natural spices. The microbial biosynthesis of (+)-nootkatone from the main precursor (+)-valencene is summarized in this paper. Whole-cell systems of fungi, bacteria, microalgae, and plant cells have been employed. It was described that the enzymes involved in the microbial biosynthesis of (+)-nootkatone, including cytochrome p450 enzymes, laccase, lipoxygenase, and so on. More recently, the related enzymes were expressed in microbial hosts to heterologous produce (+)-nootkatone, such as Escherichia coli, Pichia pastoris, Yarrowia lipolytica, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Finally, the development direction of research for realizing industrialization of microbial transformation was summarized and it provided many options for future improved bioprocesses.

Abstract
To investigate the risk factors of lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer (EGC) and to develop a risk model for the presence of lymph node metastasis. A total of 172 EGC patients, with a median age of 62(52, 68) years, who underwent gastric cancer resection in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2017 to June 2019 were selected. Clinical data of the patients were collected through the case system. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the variables significantly related to lymph node metastasis. ROC curve and calibration curve were used to evaluate the risk model. The results showed that the lymph node metastasis rate of 172 EGC patients was 19.19% (33/172). Tumor size, depth of invasion, degree of differentiation and vascular tumor thrombus were associated with lymph node metastasis (P<0.05), but age ≥ 60 years (OR=5.556, 95%CI: 1.757-17.569, P=0.004), invasion depth (OR=4.218,95%CI:1.418-12.548, P=0.010) and vascular cancer embolus (OR=13.878,95%CI:4.081-47.196,P<0.001) were independent risk factors for lymph node metastasis of EGC. The consistency index of the risk model based on the above risk factors was 0.8835 (95%CI: 0.818 8-0.948 2). The calibration curve shows that the risk assessment model is in good agreement with the actual results, indicating that the model has high accuracy and discrimination.The most common site of metastasis was group 3, followed by group 4. Therefore, patients over 60 years old with submucosal invasion and vascular tumor thrombus may have a higher risk of lymph node metastasis.

Abstract
This study focused on the effect of short-term intake of sweeteners on feed intake, solution consumption and neurotransmitters release on mice. The results showed that the free drinking of 10 mM sucralose solution, 100 mM maltose solution, 3 mM saccharin solution and 3 g/L stevioside solution for 32 days will not affect the normal development of the body weight and feed intake of the mice. The consumption of maltose solution was significantly higher than that of the other sweeteners. The leptin and insulin levels increased significantly after the short-term intake of these four sweeteners. The dopamine (DA) content in the whole brain of the mice increased significantly only in the maltose group. These results indicate that the short-term intake of the preferred concentrations of maltose, stevioside, sucralose and saccharin will not affect the body weight and feed intake of the mice. Mice prefer maltose solution to other sweeteners solutions. The 100 mM maltose solution and 3 mM saccharin solution could result in the oxidative stress on mice after 32 days' short-term intake. Compared with other sweeteners, only sugars that could be broken down into small molecules of glucose might have a positive effect on dopamine levels.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical value of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), fibrinogen (FIB), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) in the diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer. Methods: A case-control study design was used to select 155 patients with colorectal cancer[98 males and 57 females, aged (63.12±13.99)years old], 90 patients with colorectal polyps[62 males and 28 females, aged (56.86±12.74)years old] and 150 healthy subjects[93 males and 57 females, aged (57.02±10.91)years old] from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from October 2017 to March 2018. Blood routine tests were detected by instrument method, FIB was detected by Clauss method, and CEA and CA19-9 were detected by electrochemiluminescence method. The levels of the NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 in the 3 groups were compared. The diagnostic efficacy of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 of colorectal cancer was compared according to the ROC curve. The relationship between the level of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 and their clinicopathological features in colorectal cancer patients was assessed. According to the median levels of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9, 112 follow-up of colorectal cancer patients could be divided into the high-value group and the low-value group. Kaplan-Meier, log-rank test and Cox regression analysis were used to analyze the relationship between the levels of the four indicators and the prognosis of colorectal cancer. Results: The levels of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 in colorectal cancer group were 2.11(1.52, 2.86), 3.21(2.58, 3.86)g/L, 3.93(2.27, 8.78)μg/L, 15.11(9.10, 25.73)U/ml. The levels of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 in colorectal polyp group were 1.74(1.39, 2.17), 2.54(2.26, 3.03)g/L, 1.99(1.18, 2.70)μg/L, 9.83(6.13, 15.68)U/ml. The levels of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 in healthy control group were 1.68(1.33, 2.28), 2.56(2.30, 2.82)g/L, 1.85(1.28, 2.59)μg/L, 10.03(6.86, 13.26)U/ml. The levels of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 in colorectal cancer group were significantly higher than those in colorectal polyp group (Z values were 3.568, 5.913, 6.880 and 4.022,P values were all<0.05) and healthy control group(Z values were 3.916, 7.381, 9.131 and 5.251,P values were all<0.05). The levels of NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 in colorectal polyp group were not remarkably different from those in healthy control group (Z values were 0.217, 0.179, 0.320 and 0.061,P values were all>0.05). The diagnostic performance of CEA was the best in single test, followed by FIB, CA19-9 and NLR. The sensitivity of combined NLR+FIB+CEA or NLR+FIB+CEA+CA19-9 was the highest with 72.3%. NLR and FIB levels were associated with tumor sites (Z values were 3.587 and 7.089,P values were both<0.05). FIB and CEA levels were correlated with the depth of tumor invasion (Z values were 3.250 and 3.245, P values were both <0.05). NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 levels were both associated with lymph node metastasis (Z values were 2.010, 3.276, 3.312 and 2.921, P values were all<0.05). The prognosis of patients in the high-value NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 groups was significantly worse than that in the low-value group (χ2 values were 5.744, 6.048, 4.389 and 6.942,P values were all<0.05).Cox multivariate regression analysis showed lymph node metastasis, NLR >2.15 and CA19-9 >15.47 U/ml are independent factors affecting the prognosis of colorectal cancer. Conclusion: NLR, FIB, CEA and CA19-9 can be applied in the auxiliary diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Male Kunming mice were divided into a normal diet group (control group) and a high-fat diet group (HF group) (185 g·kg-1 protein, 600 g·kg-1 fat and 205 g·kg-1 carbohydrate). After 8 weeks' feeding, behavioral indicators and biochemical indicators in serum were determined. The double-bottle preference experiment was used to study the preferences of mice for five sweeteners. The monoamine neurotransmitter content, gene expression related to dopamine (DA), and opioid receptors were also determined. RESULTS The body weight of the mice in the HF group increased significantly (P < 0.05) after 36 days compared with the control group. The feed intake of the HF group increased sharply in the first 12 days, and then it became basically unchanged. The preference of the HF group for all of the five sweeteners was highly significantly lower (P < 0.01) than that of the control group. Depression-related behavior was observed in the HF group mice. The triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC) content in the HF group were very much higher (P < 0.01) than those of the control group. The gene expression related to DA and opioid receptor in the HF group was significantly lower than that of the control group, except for preproenkephalin (PENK). CONCLUSIONS In summary, this study suggested that a long-term high-fat diet could result in a decrease in the preference for sweeteners and could result in a state of reward hypofunction in mice. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
The effect of short-term intake of high- and low-concentrations of sucrose solution on the neurochemistry of male and female mice was studied. The body weight, feed intake, sucrose solution consumption and brain monoamine neurotransmitters were determined after 34 days' intake of 1% and 8% sucrose solutions. The gene expression and protein levels related to dopamine and opioids were also determined. The results showed that the intake of 1% and 8% sucrose solution for 34 days did not cause significant changes in the weight development of both male and female mice. The preference for sucrose varies with sex. Both males and females had greater preference for the high concentration sucrose solution than the low concentration sucrose solution. The continuous intake of sucrose stimulated the release of monoamine neurotransmitters (DA, 5-HT, NE) in the brains of mice, and the reward effect of 8% sucrose solution is significantly higher than that of 1% sucrose solution. The sex of mice did not affect the release of neurotransmitters. The gene expressions of D1 and D2 were up-regulated in the 1% sucrose group of male mice, while the OPRM1 gene expression was down-regulated. The expression of these three genes in the 8% sucrose group of male mice was all down-regulated, while the gene expressions of D1 and D2 in the 1% and 8% sucrose group (p < 0.05) of female mice were both up-regulated.

Abstract
α-Terpineol has been widely used in daily chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and flavor industries due to its pleasant odor with high economic value and pharmacological action. Our previous study showed that Penicillium digitatum DSM 62840 was an efficient biocatalyst for the transformation of limonene to α-terpineol. Thus, it was meaningful to explore the genome features and the gene expression differences of strain DSM 62840 during limonene biotransformation, and the detailed bioconversion pathways. In this study, the functional genes related to limonene bioconversion were investigated using genome and transcriptome sequences analysis. The results showed that the P. digitatum DSM 62840 genome was estimated to be 29.09 Mb and it encoded 9,086 protein-encoding genes. The most annotated genes were associated to some protein metabolism and energy metabolism functions. When the threshold for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was set at twofold ratio, a total of 4,128, and 4,148 DEGs were identified in P_L_12h (limonene-treated condition) compared with P_0h (blank) and P_12h (limonene-untreated blank), respectively. Among them, the expression levels of genes involved in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, energy metabolism and ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters were significantly altered during the biotransformation. And the reliability of these results was further confirmed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Moreover, we found that the enzyme participated in limonene biotransformation was inducible. This enzyme was located in the microsome, and it was inhibited by cytochrome P450 inhibitors. This indicated that the cytochrome P450 may be responsible for the limonene bioconversion. Several differentially expressed cytochrome P450 genes were further identified, such as PDIDSM_85260 and PDIDSM_67430, which were significantly up-regulated with limonene treatment. These genes may be responsible for converting limonene to α-terpineol. Totally, the genomic and transcriptomic data could provide valuable information in the discovery of related-genes which was involved in limonene biotransformation, pathogenicity of fungi, and investigation of metabolites and biological pathways of strain DSM 62840.

Abstract
The present study investigated the antidepressant-like effects of navel orange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] essential oil (OEO) and its main components using the chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model mice and explored its possible mechanisms. The results indicated that OEO inhalation significantly ameliorated the depression-like behaviors of CUMS mice with decreased body weight, sucrose preference, curiosity, and mobility as well as shortened immobile time and attenuated dyslipidemia. Limonene was the most abundant compound in the sniffing OEO environment and mice brain after sniffing, and it was not metabolized immediately in the brain. In addition, limonene inhalation significantly restored CUMS-induced depressive behavior, hyperactivity of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and the decrease of monoamine neurotransmitter levels, with downregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and its receptor expression in the hippocampus. Thus, the study indicates that the improvements in neuroendocrine, neurotrophic, and monoaminergic systems are related to the antidepressant effects of limonene.

Abstract
An in situ tracing study based on solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was conducted to investigate the uptake and elimination of organophosphorus pesticides in apples. A matrix-compatible polydimethylsiloxane/poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene)/polydimethylsiloxane fiber was produced to meet the needs of in situ sampling. The fiber had high extraction ability, good sensitivity and accuracy with respect to the analytes in apple pulp, and could be used 85 times. Although the sampling rate was changing over time, quantification was still achieved by the sampling rate calibration method. Some factors that affect its applicability were studied. The limits of detection were 0.18 ng/g for diazinon and 0.20 ng/g for chlorpyrifos, rather lower than the maximum residue limits of the National Food Safety Standard of China (GB 2763-2016) and the European Commission (Reg.(EU) No 834/2013, 2018/686). The accuracy of in situ SPME quantification was verified by comparing with the results obtained by the traditional liquid-liquid extraction method. In this work, the in situ sampling method is developed using apples, diazinon, and chlorpyrifos as a model system; however, this method can be used for in vivo analysis of fruits and vegetables for nutrition and safety monitoring.

Abstract
Four natural sweeteners (sucrose, stevioside, maltose and xylitol) and six artificial sweeteners (acesulfame, sucralose, aspartame, cyclamate, saccharin and neotame) were used to study the effects of different sweeteners on the behavior and neurotransmitter release of mice with two-bottle preference experiments. The results showed that very significant preference behavior for 8% sucrose solution, 0.3% stevioside solution, 10 mM acesulfame, 10 mM sucralose and 10 mM aspartame solutions (p < 0.01) was observed on mice. Long-term exposure of sucrose solution and acesulfame solution can affect the behavioral indicators such as solution consumption, feed intake, body weight and the release of neurotransmitters in mice. The solution consumption and the release of neurotransmitters were significantly greater (p < 0.05) than that of the control group (water group), but there was no significant difference in feed intake. The acesulfame-A and acesulfame-B groups had no significant difference on the consumption of solution and feed intake, but there was significant difference in the release of neurotransmitters. The result also showed that different sweetener solutions with similar sweetness had the same effect on the neurotransmitters release, and it can be inferred that mice have an addictive behavioral characteristic to sucrose.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The intestinal microbiota has a wide variety of functions in the host. A positive effect of plant extract on intestinal microbiota in animals has been reported. However, the effect of orange essential oil and its components limonene, linalool and citral on intestinal microflora in mice has seldom been reported. The effects of intragastric administration of orange essential oil and limonene, linalool and citral on intestinal microflora and biochemical indexes in mice were studied. RESULTS The effect of essential oil, linalool and citral on immune organ index (spleen and thymus index), IgM and IL-2 was not significant (P > 0.05). A significant increase (P < 0.05) of H+ K+ -ATPase activity, IgA, IgG, and IL-2 in the limonene group was observed when compared with the control group. Orange essential oil, limonene, linalool and citral could significantly reduce the content of short-chain fatty acids in the cecum and colon of mice. Principal coordinates analysis showed that intestinal bacterial structure of limonene group cecum and colon was apparently separated from other groups. The relative abundance of Lactobacillus in cecum and colon in essential oil, limonene, linalool and citral groups was higher than that in the control group. CONCLUSIONS Orange essential oil and limonene, linalool and citral could affect the intestinal microflora of mice, and enhance the relative abundance of Lactobacillus. The intestinal bacterial structure of cecum and colon in the limonene group was quite different from other groups. This indicated a more obvious effect of limonene on intestinal bacteria, also resulting in significant changes in blood immune index and short-chain fatty acids in mice. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
The interaction between commercial orange pectin (COP) and sodium caseinate (SC) was studied using FTIR, fluorescence spectroscopy, CD, and LSCM. The effect of different conditions on the formation and separation of COP-SC complex was determined. The extraction of the orange pectin using SC precipitation (SCOP) was performed, and the physicochemical properties of SCOP were determined and compared with the orange pectin extracted by alcohol precipitation (APOP). The results showed that the electrostatic interaction was the main interaction between these two polymers, and it was strongly dependent on pH, COP/SC ratio, and salt concentration. The mixture of COP and SC formed an electrostatic complex in the pH range of 1.5-6.8 with the absence of NaCl. The recovery rate of SCOP and precipitation rate of SC were 89.43% and 98.33% when the ratio was 1:15. The physicochemical properties of SCOP were almost the same as APOP.

Abstract
This study focused on the changes of physicochemical and microbiological properties and aroma compounds of freshly-squeezed orange juice during storage at different temperatures. Aroma compounds were analyzed by solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS). The results showed that the total aerobic plate counts of orange juice stored at room temperature and 37 °C was far more than 4 °C. Totally 33 aroma compounds were determined in these orange juices. Significant differences on the aroma compounds in orange juices stored at different temperatures were observed in the present study. Most of the terpenes decreased at 4 °C after 15 days' storage, while 10 and 8 terpenes increased during storage at room temperature and 37 °C. α-Terpineol and p-vinylguaiacol were the only off-flavor compounds found in juice stored at 4 °C and room temperature at late storage respectively. While terpinen-4-ol, 4-ethylguaiacol and p-vinylguaiacol were found in juice stored at 37 °C at late storage. α-Terpineol was the only off-flavor compound found in orange juice stored at 4 °C.

Abstract
The present study focused on the effect of olive oil on Ostwald ripening of flavor nanoemulsions. The release of the aroma compounds from the nanoemulsion system was also investigated. The results showed that the droplets size of the nanoemulsions decreased sharply first and then kept stable with the increase of Tween 80. The optimum surfactant/cosurfactant (Km) ratio was determined at 7:1. The average particle size of nanoemulsion was 39.22 nm. The polydispersity index (PDI) was 0.242 nm, and the particle size distribution was in the range of 20-150 nm at the optimum Km. The stability of the nanoemulsions was improved after the addition of olive oil, and it increased noticeably with the increase of olive oil. The addition of olive oil could help to stabilize the emulsions and hamper Ostwald ripening. All the 11 aroma compounds in the nanoemulsions were detected after 24-h storage. While only 5 aroma compounds were found after 48-h storage, and α-pinene and β-myrcene were the only two aroma compounds detected after 72-h storage with low contents of 1.41 and 0.5 mg/L. The addition of olive oil inhibited the release of the aroma compounds from the nanoemulsion system. The released ethyl acetate was reduced by 48% after the addition of 10% olive oil. Significant decrease on the release of α-pinene and nonanal was observed after the addition of 3% olive oil. And the decrease was also observed on the release of β-myrcene, D-limonene, α-terpineol, decanal and eugenol when the olive oil content was ≥ 5%. However, benzyl alcohol, β-ionone and 1-octanol showed no significant changes with the increase of olive oil. This indicated that the addition of olive oil could provide greater retention of the aroma compounds in the nanoemulsions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To search age-correlated facial features and construct an age estimation model based on the three-dimensional (3D) facial images of Xinjiang Uygur males, and to structure individual face images of old age and young age. METHODS Pretreatment was performed to collect 105 3D facial images of Xingjiang Uygur males aged between 17-57 years by Artec Studio software. The facial images were transferred to high-density 3D dot matrix data by FaceAnalysis software, and each image could be represented with 32 251 vertexes. Central correction of the facial images was done and all the data were aligned to a standard coordinate frame by generalized Procrustes analysis (GPA). The age estimation model was established by partial least square regression (PLSR). Furthermore, the changes of age-correlated facial features were presented on the heat map of average face, and the reconstruction of facial images at different ages was performed based on this model. RESULTS With age, the average faces showed a series of changes including the nasolabial sulcus deepening, cheek sinking, cheekbone protruding and eye corner drooping. The Pearson correlation coefficient (r) between estimated age and chronological age was 0.71. The mean absolute deviation (MAD) of age estimation was 6.37 years. The results of age estimation in >30-40 years group showed a best accuracy (MAD=4.27 years), and the deviations increased with age after 40 years. The composite facial images represented a significant result with age on facial morphological features and aging. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study reveal the age-correlated facial features and aging markers in Uygur population, which help to construct a reliable age estimation model.

Abstract
The effects of diatomite, activated clay and acticarbon on the decolorization of orange essential oil were investigated. Single factor and orthogonal tests were performed to determine the optimum discoloring conditions. The results showed that the activated clay exhibited the most satisfactory effect on discoloring. Then it was used as the decolorizer for the decolorization of orange essential oil. The highest decolorization rate (84.5%) was obtained using 10% activated clay at 60 °C for 30 min. The contents of oxygenated compounds (linalool and citral) increased from 1.4 to 3.1% after decolorization. Sensory assessment revealed that the orange essential oil after decolorization using activated clay had a mellow and characteristic orange aroma. Chromaticity analysis showed that it had excellent transparency and yellow color under the optimized condition. Thus, decolorization with activated clay could maintain the quality and prolong the storage of orange essential oil.

Abstract
Five distyryl-type fluorescent whitening agents (FWA85, 210, 220, 351, and 353) were determined in cosmetics and liquid detergent by high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector in tandem with fluorescence detector. The samples were extracted with ultrasound in 33% acetonitrile for 10 minutes and the components were determined by ion-pair chromatography on an MG C18 column. The limits of detection were from 0.01 to 0.1 mg·kg-1 and the limits of quantification were from 0.04 to 0.4 mg·kg-1. The recovery was from 80.7 to 103.3%. A linear relationship was present from 0.10 to 100 µg·ml-1 of FWAs. The protocol was simple, sensitive, selective, and was successfully applied to analyze distyryl-type FWAs in cosmetics and liquid detergent. FWA351 and FWA85 were detected in several samples with the concentrations of 19.4-1,130 mg·kg-1.

Abstract
Abstract
This study focused on the differences in protein expression at various periods during limonene biotransformation by Penicillium digitatum DSM 62840. A total of 3644 protein-species were quantified by iTRAQ during limonene biotransformation (0 and 12 h). A total of 643 proteins were differentially expressed, 316 proteins were significantly up-regulated and 327 proteins were markedly down-regulated. GO, COG, and pathway enrichment analysis showed that the differentially expressed proteins possessed catalytic and binding functions and were involved in a variety of cellular and metabolic process. Furthermore, the enzymes involved in limonene transformation might be related to cytochrome P-450. This study provided a powerful platform for further exploration of biotransformation, and the identified proteins provided insight into the mechanism of limonene transformation.

Abstract
In this study, we investigated the role of ADH2 Arg47His and ALDH2 Glu487Lys genetic polymorphisms in the development of Parkinson's disease in a Chinese population. Between January 2013 and May 2014, 115 patients with Parkinson's disease and 214 healthy controls were recruited in our study. Genotyping of ADH2 Arg47His and ALDH2 Glu487Lys polymorphisms was performed by the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. In the dominant model, the GA + AA genotype of ALDH2 Glu487Lys was found to be significantly associated with elevated risk of Parkinson's disease when compared with the GG genotype [odds ratio = 1.71, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.02-2.84]. In the recessive model, the AA genotype of ALDH2 Glu487Lys showed a 4.87-fold increase (95%CI = 1.54-18.03) in the risk of Parkinson's disease when compared to the GG and GA genotypes. However, no significant association was found between the ADH2 Arg47His polymorphism and risk of Parkinson's disease in the co-dominant, dominant, or recessive models. In conclusion, our study suggests that the ALDH2 polymorphism could influence the development of Parkinson's disease in the Chinese population studied here.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) + quercetin (QE) used in combination. DHA and QE are natural compounds derived from various foods and have been demonstrated to exert anti‑inflammatory effects The protein mRNA expression involved in the nuclear factor (NF)-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling pathway was analyzed by western blot analysis and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction methods respectively, other cytokines were detected by an enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay kit. The results of the present study demonstrated that combined treatment of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‑stimulated RAW264.7 cells with DHA + QE decreased the levels of pro‑inflammatory mediators to a greater extent than QE or DHA alone. Additionally, DHA + QE synergistically suppressed nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2 and cyclooxygenase-2 levels. Molecular‑level studies indicated that the DHA + QE combination can significantly inhibit the mRNA expression of NF‑κB subunits p50 and p65, extracellular signal‑regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2 and c‑JUN N‑terminal kinase (JNK) 1/2, which suggests that the NF‑κB signalling pathway is involved in the synergistic effects observed. Furthermore, western blot analysis demonstrated that DHA + QE synergistically inhibit the phosphorylation of p50, p65, ERK1/2 and JNK1/2. This finding indicates that the enhanced anti‑inflammatory effects of the combined compounds are achieved by suppressing NF‑κB and MAPK signalling in LPS‑stimulated RAW264.7 cells. The results of the present study suggest that DHA and QE in combination may be utilized as potent anti‑inflammatory compounds, with potential preventative or palliative effects on obesity, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the influence of different emulsifiers or xanthan-emulsifier systems on the release of aroma compounds. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and GC-MS were used to study the effects of varying concentrations of xanthan gum, sucrose fatty acid ester, Tween 80 and soybean lecithin on the release of seven aroma compounds. The effects of the emulsifier systems supplemented with xanthan gum on aroma release were also studied in the same way. The results showed varying degrees of influence of sucrose fatty acid ester, soybean lecithin, Tween 80 and xanthan gum on the release of aroma compounds. Compared with other aroma compounds, ethyl acetate was more likely to be conserved in the solution system, while the amount of limonene released was the highest among these seven aroma compounds. In conclusion, different emulsifiers and complexes showed different surface properties that tend to interact with different aroma molecules. The present studies showed that the composition and structure of emulsifiers and specific interactions between emulsifiers and aroma molecules have significant effects on aroma release.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In this study, (R)-(+)-limonene biotransformation using three fungal strains was compared. Penicillium digitatum DSM 62840 was distinguished for its capacity to transform limonene into α-terpineol with high regioselectivity. Growth kinetics in submerged liquid culture and the effects of growth phase and contact time on biotransformation were studied using this strain. Substrate concentration, co-solvent selection, and cultivation conditions were subsequently optimised. RESULTS The maximum concentration of α-terpineol (833.93 mg L(-1)) was obtained when the pre-culture medium was in medium log-phase by adding 840 mg L(-1) substrate dissolved in ethanol and cultivation was performed at 24 °C, 150 rpm, and pH 6.0 for 12 h. Addition of small amounts of (R)-(+)-limonene (84 mg L(-1)) at the start of fungal log-phase growth yielded a 1.5-fold yield of α-terpineol, indicating that the enzyme was inducible. CONCLUSION Among these three strains tested, P. digitatum DSM 62840 was proved to be an efficient biocatalyst to transform (R)-(+)-limonene to α-terpineol. Further studies revealed that the optimal growth phase for biotransformation was in the medium log phase of this strain. The biotransformation represented a wide tolerance of temperature; α-terpineol concentration underwent no significant change at 8-32 °C. The biotransformation could also be performed using resting cells.

Abstract
We investigated the effects of hyperbaric oxygen treatment on the Nrf2 signaling pathway in secondary injury following traumatic brain injury, using a rat model. An improved Feeney freefall method was used to establish the rat traumatic brain injury model. Sixty rats were randomly divided into three groups: a sham surgery group, a traumatic brain injury group, and a group receiving hyperbaric oxygen treatment after traumatic brain injury. Neurological function scores were assessed at 12 and 24 h after injury. The expression levels of Nrf2, heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), and quinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO-1) in the cortex surrounding the brain lesion were detected by western blotting 24 h after the injury. Additionally, the TUNEL method was used to detect apoptosis of nerve cells 24 h after traumatic injury and Nissl staining was used to detect the number of whole neurons. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment significantly increased the expression of nuclear Nrf2 protein (P < 0.05), HO-1, and NQO-1 in the brain tissues surrounding the lesion after a traumatic brain injury (P < 0.05) and also significantly reduced the number of apoptotic and injured nerve cells. The neurological function scores also improved with hyperbaric oxygen treatment (P < 0.05). Therefore, hyperbaric oxygen has a neuroprotective role in traumatic brain injury, which is mediated by up-regulation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Abstract
We investigated protein expression in the medullary visceral zone (MVZ) of rats with multiple-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) caused by subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) to discuss the possible regulatory mechanism of the MVZ in the course of SAH-induced MODS. A SAH-induced MODS model was established in rats by injecting arterial blood into the Willis' circle. Protein expression in the MVZ was analyzed by immunohistochemistry assay. Protein expression in the MVZ peaked 24-36 h after SAH, and was significantly higher than in the control and sham operation groups. Organs at each time point exhibited inflammatory injuries to varying degrees after SAH, which reached a maximum at 24-36 h. Incidences of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and MODS were 100 and 71.67%, respectively, after SAH. There is a consistency between MVZ protein expression and inflammatory changes in each organ after SAH. This prompts the suggestion that the MVZ may be one of the direct regulative centers in SAH-induced MODS, and may be involved in the functional regulation of the surrounding organs after SAH.

Abstract
It is expensive to induce experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis (EAMG) by active immunity, and difficult to obtain natural acetylcholine receptor (AChR). We sought a new method of inducing EAMG by immunizing rats with artificially synthesized AChR. The AChR mRNA in TE671 cells was extracted and reverse transcribed. The inclusion body was purified and protein concentration was determined, and the EAMG animal model was used for induction. The serum was extracted from rat blood. The antibody titer was determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA). The concentration of decay accelerating factor (DAF) in the rat serum was determined by ELISA, and the metabolism of serum rDAF was determined by western blot. We evaluated the inhibition of rDAF by determining the 50% complement hemolysis unit in the rat serum. The extracellular domain (ECD) nucleotide sequence clone produced by polymerase chain reaction was completely consistent with that in the human gene bank; it was induced by isopropyl β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside to express the protein after insertion into vector pET16b. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis demonstrated that the inclusion body protein was the exact target. The ECD protein was able to bind with mAb35 after dialysis and renaturation, which demonstrated protein activity. The soluble ECD protein was used to immunize rats and obtain the EAMG models. The inhibitory effect of the complement was unsatisfactory owing to high decay rate after rDAF injection into the EAMG models. It is easy to induce the EAMG model by obtaining the AChRTEα1 subunit ECD protein using the substitution method.

Abstract
Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) is caused by a (CAG)n trinucleotide repeat expansion that is translated into an abnormally long polyglutamine tract. This disease is considered the most common form of spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA). In the present study, we developed stable inducible cell lines (PC12Tet-On-Ataxin-3-Q28/84) expressing ataxin-3 with either normal or abnormal CAG repeats under doxycycline control. The expression of acetyl histone H3 and the induction of c-Fos in response to cAMP were strongly suppressed in cells expressing the protein with the expanded polyglutamine tract. Treatment with valproic acid, a histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi), attenuated mutant ataxin-3-induced cell toxicity and suppression of acetyl histone H3, phosphorylated cAMP-responsive element binding protein (p-CREB) as well as c-Fos expression. These results indicate that VPA can stimulate the up-regulation of gene transcription through hyperacetylation. Thus, VPA might have a therapeutic effect on MJD.

Abstract
A simple one-step solvothermal method was applied for the preparation of magnetite/reduced graphene oxide (MRGO), and the synthetic nanocomposites with a magnetic particle size of ∼8nm were used as an adsorbent for magnetic solid phase extraction of isocarbophos (ICP) in different sample matrices prior to gas chromatography (GC) detection. The identity of the nanomaterial was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that Fe3O4 nanoparticles with a uniform size were homogeneously anchored on RGO nanosheets. Increased oxidation degrees of graphite oxide, big particle sizes and large loading amounts of Fe3O4 on the surface of RGO led to a decrease of adsorption capacity of MRGO to ICP. The adsorption behavior of this adsorbent was better fitted by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Several parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were investigated and optimized, including adsorbent dosage, extraction time, ionic strength and desorption conditions. And then, a rapid and effective method based on MRGO combined with GC was developed for the determination of ICP in aqueous samples. A linear range from 0.05 to 50ngmL(-1) was obtained with a high correlation coefficient (R(2)) of 0.9995, and the limit of detection was found to be 0.0044ngmL(-1). This method was successfully applied to the analysis of ICP in five kinds of samples, including apple, rice, lake water, cowpea and cabbage. The recoveries in different sample matrices were in the range from 81.00% to 108.51% with relative standard deviations less than 9.72%. It can be concluded that the proposed analytical method is highly-efficient, sensitive, precise, accurate and practicable.
