Does an incomplete ferrule affect the fracture of endodontically treated teeth? A systematic review of in vitro studies. J Dent 2024; 146:105068. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this systematic review was to assess the impact of the incomplete ferrule on the fracture of endodontically treated teeth (ETT). DATA The keywords such as "incomplete ferrule," "ferrule," "ferrule effect," "residual dentin," "remaining dentin," or "remaining coronal dentin" were used for searching, and only in vitro studies investigating the incomplete ferrule effect on natural teeth were included. SOURCES PubMed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Science Direct databases, and manual-searching. STUDY SELECTION The search strategy yielded 1633 hits, and a total of 19 in vitro studies closely related to the effect of incomplete ferrule on ETT were included. CONCLUSION The presence of an incomplete ferrule may significantly increase the fracture resistance of restored ETT, compared with restored ETT without ferrule. The number of residual axial walls of the incomplete ferrule may have an impact on the fracture resistance and fracture mode. The location of residual axial walls of the incomplete ferrule may affect the fracture resistance but not the fracture mode. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Limited data suggest that the presence of incomplete ferrule has a positive effect on the fracture resistance of restored ETT. An incomplete ferrule can be an alternative for restoring ETT when a complete ferrule is not present. Nevertheless, further high-quality studies are still needed to offer more robust evidence and to take potential confounding factors into account.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Teeth identification has a pivotal role in the dental curriculum and provides one of the important foundations of clinical practice. Accurately identifying teeth is a vital aspect of dental education and clinical practice, but can be challenging due to the anatomical similarities between categories. In this study, we aim to explore the possibility of using a deep learning model to classify isolated tooth by a set of photographs. METHODS A collection of 5,100 photographs from 850 isolated human tooth specimens were assembled to serve as the dataset for this study. Each tooth was carefully labeled during the data collection phase through direct observation. We developed a deep learning model that incorporates the state-of-the-art feature extractor and attention mechanism to classify each tooth based on a set of 6 photographs captured from multiple angles. To increase the validity of model evaluation, a voting-based strategy was applied to refine the test set to generate a more reliable label, and the model was evaluated under different types of classification granularities. RESULTS This deep learning model achieved top-3 accuracies of over 90% in all classification types, with an average AUC of 0.95. The Cohen's Kappa demonstrated good agreement between model prediction and the test set. CONCLUSIONS This deep learning model can achieve performance comparable to that of human experts and has the potential to become a valuable tool for dental education and various applications in accurately identifying isolated tooth.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To give a comprehensive review of advancement in dental ceramics, fabrication methods, and the challenges associated with clinical application. DATA, SOURCES AND STUDY SELECTION Researches on chemical composition, biomechanical behaviors, optical properties, bonding strategies and fabrication methods were included. The search of articles was independently conducted by two authors in the PubMed, Scopus, Medline and Web of Science. CONCLUSIONS Dental ceramics have shown significant advancements in terms of esthetics and function. However, improving fracture toughness without compromising optical properties remains a challenge. Repairing fractured zirconia or glass-matrix ceramic prostheses with the same material is difficult due to the sintering process. Developing innovative bonding techniques that provide strong and long-lasting bonding strength between ceramics and tooth structures poses a recurring obstacle. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Despite the emergence of dental ceramics and fabrication techniques, certain limitations such as susceptibility to brittleness and fracture still exist. Therefore, the current review provided valuable information around the advanced dental ceramics in tooth repair. The laboratory test data and the clinical outcome are also presented in details, aiming to guide clinicians in making informed decisions regarding ceramic restorations.

Abstract
AIM This current Mendelian randomization (MR) study aims to comprehensively explore the potential bidirectional link between pulp and periapical disease (PAP) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODOLOGY Summary level data of European-based population genome-wide association studies (GWASs) were employed to undertake this MR study. With the selection of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) as the instrumental variable, the radial inverse-variance weighted (radial IVW) method with modified second-order weights was applied as the primary method. Additionally, a range of sensitivity analyses were conducted to investigate pleiotropy. Results from different sources of outcome were pooled by meta-analysis with the fixed model. RESULTS The results of this MR analysis did not suggest a significant impact of pulp and periapical disease on type 2 diabetes (combined OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 1.00-1.07, p = .033) and vice versa (OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 0.96-1.14, p = .329). No significant pleiotropy was detected in the final model after the removal of outliers, demonstrating the reliability of the results in our primary analysis. CONCLUSIONS With the limitations inherent in the present MR study, there is no significant evidence in either direction to suggest a causal association between pulp and periapical disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
Nonlinear interactions of spin-waves and their quanta, magnons, have emerged as prominent candidates for interference-based technology, ranging from quantum transduction to antiferromagnetic spintronics. Yet magnon multiplication in the terahertz (THz) spectral region represents a major challenge. Intense, resonant magnetic fields from THz pulse-pairs with controllable phases and amplitudes enable high order THz magnon multiplication, distinct from non-resonant nonlinearities such as the high harmonic generation by below-band gap electric fields. Here, we demonstrate exceptionally high-order THz nonlinear magnonics. It manifests as 7th-order spin-wave-mixing and 6th harmonic magnon generation in an antiferromagnetic orthoferrite. We use THz two-dimensional coherent spectroscopy to achieve high-sensitivity detection of nonlinear magnon interactions up to six-magnon quanta in strongly-driven many-magnon correlated states. The high-order magnon multiplication, supported by classical and quantum spin simulations, elucidates the significance of four-fold magnetic anisotropy and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya symmetry breaking. Moreover, our results shed light on the potential quantum fluctuation properties inherent in nonlinear magnons.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The bidirectional link of periodontitis (PD) and gastrointestinal tract (GIT) disorders has been investigated in previous epidemiological studies; however, the conclusions still remain controversial. The aim of this study was to comprehensively explore the bidirectional causal effect between PD and various GIT diseases. METHODS Based on summary-level data of genome-wide association studies (GWASs), a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study was undertaken. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with PD or GIT disorders (chronic gastritis [CG], gastric ulcer [GU], duodenal ulcer [DU], gastroesophageal reflux disease [GERD], irritable bowel syndrome [IBS], and diverticular disease of the intestine [DI]) in GWASs were applied as exposure. The primary method employed was the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, and several sensitivity analyses were performed to investigate potential pleiotropy. RESULTS With regard to the investigation of the causality between PD and GIT disorders, the IVW method revealed that there is a causal impact of PD on GU (odds ratio [OR] 1.088; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.036-1.141; adjusted p = 0.004) and DI (OR 0.938; 95% CI, 0.911-0.965; adjusted p = 0.000). However, no significant genetic liability was observed for the causal effect of PD on CG, DU, GERD, and IBS. Furthermore, the primary analysis did not demonstrate a causal effect of GIT disorders on PD. CONCLUSION This MR study suggests that PD may be associated with an increased risk of GU and a reduced risk of DI, with possibly limited clinical relevance. Further studies are needed to support the conclusions of this MR study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the effects of aging and bleaching procedures on the color stability and surface roughness of a new single-shade composite versus multi-shade composite resins. METHODS A single-shade composite resin (Charisma Diamond One, CDO) and 3 multi-shade composite resins (Tetric NCeram, Filtek Z350 XT, Clearfil Majesty Posterior) were tested. Thirty specimens of each material were subjected to one of the aging procedures respectively: immersion in distilled water (12 days/37 °C), immersion in coffee (12 days/37 °C), or water thermocycling (10,000 cycles/5-55 °C). All specimens underwent in-office bleaching after aging. Kruskal-Wallis tests and analysis of variance were used for statistical analysis (α=0.05). RESULTS All materials exhibited a change of color (ΔE00), translucency (RTP), whiteness (WID) and surface roughness parameters (Sa,Sv) after aging and bleaching procedures. CDO showed the highest ΔE00 among all resins with the highest RTP value, regardless of the aging procedures. Immersion in coffee led to the significantly highest ∆E00 values and lowest RTP values for nearly all resins. Positive ΔWID1 (WID(bleaching)-WID(baseline)) values were found in distilled water immersion and thermocycling groups, while negative ΔWID1 values were found in the coffee immersion group for all materials. Besides, positive ΔWID2 (WID(bleaching)-WID(aging)) values were found in all aging groups for nearly all materials. All materials showed an increasing trend in Sa and Sv after bleaching. CONCLUSIONS CDO showed more pronounced discoloration than multi-shade composite resins. Although the whiteness of all resins increased after bleaching, none was completely restored in the coffee immersion group. Bleaching significantly increased the surface roughness of all materials. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Charisma Diamond One is more susceptible to discoloration, which may affect its long-term success rate. Bleaching could partially reduce the color change of the composite resins but did not return them completely to their original state. The roughness of the resins increased after bleaching, prompting dentists to repolish them after bleaching.

Abstract
Commercial collagen membranes face difficulty in guided bone regeneration (GBR) due to the absence of hierarchical structural design, effective interface management, and diverse bioactivity. Herein, a Janus membrane called SrJM is developed that consists of a porous collagen face to enhance osteogenic function and a dense face to maintain barrier function. Specifically, biomimetic intrafibrillar mineralization of collagen with strontium apatite is realized by liquid precursors of amorphous strontium phosphate. Polycaprolactone methacryloyl is further integrated on one side of the collagen as a dense face, which endows SrJM with mechanical support and a prolonged lifespan. In vitro experiments demonstrate that the dense face of SrJM acts as a strong barrier against fibroblasts, while the porous face significantly promotes cell adhesion and osteogenic differentiation through activation of calcium-sensitive receptor/integrin/Wnt signaling pathways. Meanwhile, SrJM effectively enhances osteogenesis and angiogenesis by recruiting stem cells and modulating osteoimmune response, thus creating an ideal microenvironment for bone regeneration. In vivo studies verify that the bone defect region guided by SrJM is completely repaired by newly formed vascularized bone. Overall, the outstanding performance of SrJM supports its ongoing development as a multifunctional GBR membrane, and this study provides a versatile strategy of fabricating collagen-based biomaterials for hard tissue regeneration.

Abstract
Existing research of non-unidirectional cleanrooms generally suggests that lower-side return air outlets provide better control effect on indoor particle concentration. As a result, there has been relatively less focus on return air outlets. However, installing return air outlets oriented towards operators as particle emission sources can reduce the impact on process layout and improve space utilization, while also provide less impact from upper particle emission sources on the workbench area. To investigate the characteristics of return air outlet for operators (abbreviated as H), this study compared the particle concentration distribution, non-uniformity, and purification efficiency of return air oultet H and the traditional lower-side (abbreviated as L) return air outlets by experiments and CFD simulations. Based on the theory of mass conservation, the expression of required air supply volume under equivalent cleanroom conditions was derived. Under corresponding experimental and simulation conditions, the particle concentration differences range from 2.0% to 12.7% for return air outlet H and from 12.4% to 33.2% for return air outlet L, and these differences gradually decrease with the air exchange rate (ACH) increases. The results show that ACH = 20 is sufficient for cleanliness requirements with return air outlet H when there is one person in the cleanroom, while a higher rate of ACH = 35 is needed when there are two persons. Although lower-side return air outlets have certain potential for reducing particle concentration in the cleanroom, increasing the air exchange rate remains the most effective method to control indoor particle concentration. Compared to the traditional lower-side return air outlet L, the ranges of the non-uniformity coefficients for return air outlet H and L are 0.50 to 0.67 and 0.45 to 0.53, respectively. The average non-uniformity coefficient differs by 11.9%, and there is not a significant difference in uniformity with more than 20 air changes per hour. The use of return air outlets H only requires an additional 11% of air supply volume to achieve the same cleanliness, demonstrating its effectiveness in controlling particle concentration. It is suitable for cleanrooms with higher requirements for workbenches and for cleanrooms with restricted floor usage or requiring flexible layouts. The study also explores the impact of width of return air outlet oriented towards operators as particle emission sources, the results show that the larger-sized outlets facilitate the particle discharge and control the particle distribution inside the room.

Abstract
Dental adhesives are widely used in daily practice for minimally invasive restorative dentistry but suffer from bond degradation and biofilm attack. Bio-inspired by marine mussels having excellent surface-adhesion capability and high chemical affinity of polydopamine (PDA) to metal ions, herein, experimental zinc (Zn)-containing polydopamine-based adhesive formulation, further being referred to as "Zn-PDA@SiO2 "-incorporated adhesive is proposed as a novel dental adhesive. Different Zn contents (5 and 10 mm) of Zn-PDA@SiO2 are prepared. Considering the synergistic effect of Zn and PDA, Zn-PDA@SiO2 not only presents excellent antibacterial potential and notably inhibits enzymatic activity (soluble and matrix-bound proteases), but also exhibits superior biocompatibility and biosafety in vitro/vivo. The long-term bond stability is substantially improved by adding 5 wt% 5 mm Zn-PDA@SiO2 to the primer. The aged bond strength of the experimentally formulated dental adhesives applied in self-etch (SE) bonding mode is 1.9 times higher than that of the SE gold-standard adhesive. Molecular dynamics calculations indicate the stable formation of covalent bonds, Zn-assisted coordinative bonds, and hydrogen bonds between PDA and collagen. Overall, this bioinspired dental adhesive provides an avenue technology for innovative biomedical applications and has already revealed promising perspectives for dental restorative dentistry.

Abstract
Objective: To review the studies related to keratoconus in China, investigate research hotspots and development trends in this field, and provide reference for future research. Methods: This is a bibliometrics study. The relevant literature written in Chinese was retrieved from the WanFang DATA and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, English articles were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Searched for journal articles related to keratoconus VOSviewer software, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix in the R language were employed to create the knowledge map. The analysis encompassed the distribution of published journals, research collaboration networks of countries/regions, institutions, and authors. Additionally, core authors, high-frequency keyword co-occurrence, keyword topic maps, and keyword emergence time ranking were examined. Results: The study ultimately included 1 100 Chinese articles and 668 English articles. Chinese literature and English literature began to increase in 1997 and 2009, respectively, indicating that the field is currently in a developmental stage. The publications involved 244 Chinese journals and 150 English journals, predominantly in the field of ophthalmology. The United States collaborated the most with China, contributing to 123 articles, followed by other countries such as the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Chinese literature and English literature involved 552 and 883 institutions, respectively. The institution with the highest number of Chinese literature publications was the Eye Institute of Shandong First Medical University (63 papers), while Wenzhou Medical University had the highest number of English literature publications (91 papers). Chinese literature involved 2 435 authors, and English literature involved 2 073 authors. The largest collaboration cluster in Chinese literature was formed by the teams of Xie Lixin and Shi Weiyun, while the Gao Hua team formed the largest cluster in English literature. However, collaboration between authors was primarily limited to within each team. A total of 622 and 1 611 keywords were extracted from Chinese and English literature, respectively. The node centrality of the four Chinese keywords, "keratoconus", "cornea", "corneal transplantation" and "myopia" as well as the three English keywords, "keratoconus", "collagen cross-linking" and "penetrating keratoplasty" was greater than 0.1. "Collagen", "riboflavin", "corneal transplantation" and "ultraviolet A" were identified as common core hotspots and important research topics in Chinese and English literature on keratoconus. Keyword emergence analysis indicated that the keywords with the highest intensity of emergence in Chinese and English literature were "myopia" (13.54) and "penetrating keratoplasty" (9.99), respectively. The longest emergence time was observed for "contact lenses" (1995-2006) and "penetrating keratoplasty" (2003-2014). Conclusions: At present, research on keratoconus in China is on the rise, with research hotspots including pathogenesis, various new surgical methods, and improvement in quality of life. The future research trend mainly focuses on early diagnosis and screening methods, artificial intelligence, biomechanical examination, subclinical keratoconus, and small incision lenticule extraction.

Abstract
Echinococcosis poses a significant threat to public health. The Chinese government has implemented prevention and control measures to mitigate the impact of the disease. By analyzing data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the State Council of the People's Republic of China, we found that implementation of these measures has reduced the infection rate by nearly 50% between 2004 to 2022 (from 0.3975 to 0.1944 per 100,000 person-years). Nonetheless, some regions still bear a significant disease burden, and lack of detailed information limites further evaluation of the effects on both alveolar and cystic echinococcosis. Our analysis supports the continuing implementation of these measures and suggests that enhanced wildlife management, case-based strategies, and surveillance systems will facilitate disease control.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the impact of changes in the posterior tibial slope (PTS) in Oxford unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (OUKA) on the mid-term clinical outcomes of postoperative patients. Methods: This study was a follow-up study. The data of 135 patients (150 knees) who underwent OUKA at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital from January 2012 to January 2013 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were followed-up for at least ten years. According to the changes in PTS of the medial tibial plateau before and after surgery, patients were divided into three groups: group A (PTS decreased by more than 5°), group B (PTS changed by 5° or less), and group C (PTS increased by more than 5°). The Knee Society Clinical Score (KSS-C), Knee Society Functional Score (KSS-F), Oxford Knee Score (OKS), Forgotten Joint Score (FJS), and knee range of motion (ROM) among the three groups were compared at the last follow-up. Results: Prior to the final follow-up assessment, six patients expired, and an additional nine patients were lost to follow-up. A total of 120 patients (135 knees) were enrolled in this study (30 males and 90 females). The mean age was (66.29±8.62) years, and the follow-up time was (10.54±0.72) years. Group A consisted of 32 patients (34 knees), group B comprised 77 patients (90 knees), and group C included 11 patients (11 knees). One knee in group A suffered prosthesis loosening, and two knees in group C experienced postoperative bearing dislocation, one knee encountered bearing fragmentation. The incidence of postoperative complications differed significantly among the three groups (P<0.05). The preoperative OKS was (33.91±6.59) points, KSS-F was (43.46±8.99) points, KSS-C was (41.05±5.70) points and ROM was 115.23°±13.53°; after the surgery, they changed to (18.82±7.01) points, (81.51±7.34) points, (82.64±7.94) points, and 119.07°±8.62°, respectively, and all the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.001). In terms of postoperative outcomes, group A had an OKS of (21.44±8.46) points and a FJS of (63.83±11.40) points, group B had an OKS of (17.07±5.81) points and a FJS of (70.49±12.45) points, group C had an OKS of (25.09±5.07) points and a FJS score of (59.48±10.09) points; the differences among the three groups were all statistically significant (all P<0.05), but there were no significant differences in the postoperative KSS scores and ROM among the three groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions: After OUKA, better mid-term clinical outcomes are achieved when ΔPTS is<5°. Although the recommended central value for PTS in OUKA is 7° according to Oxford, it should be individualized, and it is recommended to consider the preoperative angle, with a change of less than 5° before and after surgery.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the value of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiomics nomograms for predicting the hormone receptor (HR) status of HER2-positive breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with HER2-positive invasive breast cancer were divided randomly into training (68 patients) and validation (30 patients) sets. All were classified as either HR-positive (HR+) or negative (HR-) at histopathology. Two radiologists outlined the three-dimensional (3D) volumetric regions of interest (VOI) on the MRI images. Features (n=1,096) were extracted from the T2-weighted imaging (WI), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) images separately. Dimensionality was reduced using feature screening. Binary radiomics prediction models were established using a logistic regression classifier and were validated in the validation set. To construct a nomogram, independent predictors were identified using multivariate logistic regression analysis. The predictive efficacy of the model was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). RESULTS Ten radiomics features were obtained after feature dimensionality reduction based on the merged T2WI, ADC, and DCE images. The diagnostic efficacy of the radiomics signature using the three sequences was better than that of any single sequence (training set AUC: 0.797; validation set AUC: 0.75). Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, the independent predictors for identifying HR status were combined radiomics signature and peritumoural oedema. Nomograms constructed by combining the radiomics signature and peritumoural oedema showed good discrimination in both the training and validation sets (AUC: 0.815 and 0. 805, respectively). CONCLUSION A multiparametric MRI-based nomogram incorporating the radiomics signature and peritumoural oedema can assess the HR status of HER2-positive breast cancer. The resulting model can improve diagnostic accuracy, improving patient outcomes.

Abstract
Recapitulation of the natural healing process is receiving increasing recognition as a strategy to induce robust tissue regeneration. Endochondral ossification has been recognized as an essential reparative approach in natural jawbone defect healing. However, such an approach has been overlooked in the recent development of cell-based therapeutics for jawbone repair. Therefore, this study aimed to explore a bioinspired stem cell-based strategy for jawbone repair by mimicking the mesenchymal condensation of progenitor cells during the early endochondral ossification process. For this purpose, passage 3 of jawbone periosteum-derived cells (jb-PDCs) was cultured in our previously reported nonadherent microwells (200 µm in diameter, 148 µm in depth, and 100 µm space in between) and self-assembled into spheroids with a diameter of 96.4 ± 5.8 µm after 48 h. Compared to monolayer culture, the jb-PDC spheroids showed a significant reduction of stemness marker expression evidenced by flow cytometry. Furthermore, a significant upregulation of chondrogenic transcription factor SOX9 in both gene and protein levels was observed in the jb-PDC spheroids after 48 h of chondrogenic induction. RNA sequencing and Western blotting analysis further suggested that the enhanced SOX9-mediated chondrogenic differentiation in jb-PDC spheroids was attributed to the activation of the p38 MAPK pathway. Impressively, inhibition of p38 kinase activity significantly attenuated chondrogenic differentiation jb-PDC spheroids, evidenced by a significant decline of SOX9 in both gene and protein levels. Strikingly, the jb-PDC spheroids implanted in 6- to 8-wk-old male C57BL/6 mice with critical-size jawbone defects (1.8 mm in diameter) showed an evident contribution to cartilaginous callus formation after 1 wk, evidenced by histological analysis. Furthermore, micro-computed tomography analysis showed that the jb-PDC spheroids significantly accelerated bone healing after 2 wk in the absence of exogenous growth factors. In sum, the presented findings represent the successful development of cell-based therapeutics to reengineer the endochondral bone repair process and illustrate the potential application to improve bone repair and regeneration in the craniofacial skeleton.

Abstract
Biomimetic mineralization of dentin collagen appears to be a promising strategy to optimize dentin bonding durability. However, traditional postbonding mineralization strategies based on Ca/P ion release still have some drawbacks, such as being time-consuming, having a spatiotemporal mismatch, and having limited intrafibrillar minerals. To tackle these problems, a prebonding rapid intrafibrillar mineralization strategy was developed in the present study. Specifically, polyacrylic acid-stabilized amorphous calcium fluoride (PAA-ACF) was found to induce rapid intrafibrillar mineralization of the single-layer collagen model and dentin collagen at just 1 min and 10 min, as identified by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. This strategy has also been identified to strengthen the mechanical properties of demineralized dentin within a clinically acceptable timeframe. Significantly, the bonding strength of the PAA-ACF-treated groups outperformed the control group irrespective of aging modes. In addition, the endogenous matrix metalloproteinases as well as exogenous bacterial erosion were inhibited, thus reducing the degradation of dentin collagen. High-quality integration of the hybrid layer and the underlying dentin was also demonstrated. On the basis of the present results, the concept of "prebonding rapid intrafibrillar mineralization" was proposed. This user-friendly scheme introduced PAA-ACF-based intrafibrillar mineralization into dentin bonding for the first time. As multifunctional primers, PAA-ACF precursors have the potential to shed new light on prolonging the service life of adhesive restorations, with promising significance.

Abstract
The objectives of this study was to evaluate the effects of background color and restoration depth on color adjustment potential of a new single-shade resin composite versus multi-shade resin composites. Two multi-shade resin composites (Spectrum TPH3 and Clearfil AP-X) marked A2 shade and a new single-shade resin composite (Charisma Diamond One) were tested. Four base shades (A1, A2, A3, and A3.5) of the same resin composite (Filtek Z250) were selected as different background colors. Dual specimens with 1-, 2-, and 3-mm restoration depth and single specimens of all materials were fabricated. CIE color coordinates were measured using a spectrophotometer, then color differences (∆E00) and translucency parameter (TP00) were calculated using the CIEDE2000 formula. Independent observers performed visual scoring. CAP-I and CAP-V values were calculated according to ΔE00 and visual scoring. The results revealed that CAP-I and CAP-V were significantly affected by resin composite type, background color, and restoration depth. CAP-I and CAP-V decreased as restoration depth increased at the same background color for all materials. Charisma Diamond One had the highest CAP-I and CAP-V values at all background colors and restoration depths, with the highest TP00 value. These findings demonstrated that color adjustment potential was dependent on resin composite type, background color, and restoration depth, so shade selection is indispensable for multi-shade resin composites. Charisma Diamond One exhibited the highest color adjustment potential and the most pronounced color shifting, contributing to simplifying the process of shade selection and improving the efficiency of clinical work.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to assess the effect of abutment variation and creep on dental implant restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three finite element analysis (FEA) models of implant restorations were created, which were restored by conventional one-piece abutment (CA), hybrid abutment crown (HAC), and multi-unit abutment (MUA). The contacts were considered intimate (no friction), except for implant/abutment, abutment/screw, and abutment/screw/crown (HAC) attachments. The related mechanical parameters were used to improve the authenticity of the study. Instantaneous loads and constant loads (100 s) of 130 N were applied at a 30° angle to the palatal portion of the crown. Results were qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated using the equivalent von Mises stress, micro-gap distance of the implant-abutment interface (IAI), preload changes, and safety index. RESULTS The stress state of each component differed depending on the restoration type, from CA and HAC to MUA. Implants and screws were the structures that suffered the most stress under instantaneous loads. Each metal structure exhibited a substantial decrease in stress during a constant loading period. The screws of the MUA abutment showed more preload loss (62.1 N) after constant loads for 100 s. MUA base produced less micro-gap (0.72 μm) at the IAI when it was compared with the CA group (0.93 μm) and HAC group (3.29 μm). CONCLUSIONS The abutment type influences the mechanical properties and performance of implant restorations. The creep effect decreases the maximum stress level and increases the safety factors of each structure, indicating that stress-related mechanical complications may not occur more easily.

Abstract
Objective: This paper aimed to assess the impact of the acetone wet-bonding (AWB) technique on dentin bonding and to investigate its potential underlying mechanisms. Materials and Methods: Caries-free third molars were sliced, ground, etched, water-rinsed. Then the specimens were randomly allocated to four groups according to the following pretreatments: 1. water wet-bonding (WWB); 2. ethanol wet-bonding (EWB); 3. 50% (v/v) acetone aqueous solution (50%AWB); 4. 100% acetone solution (AWB). Singlebond universal adhesive was then applied and composite buildups were constructed. The microtensile bond strength (MTBS), failure modes and interface nanoleakage were respectively evaluated after 24 h of water storage, 10,000 times of thermocycling or 1-month collagenase ageing. In situ zymography and contact angle were also investigated. Results: Acetone pretreatment preserved MTBS after thermocycling or collagenase ageing (p < 0.05) without affecting the immediate MTBS (p > 0.05). Furthermore, AWB group manifested fewer nanoleakage than WWB group. More importantly, the contact angle of the dentin surfaces decreased significantly and collagenolytic activities within the hybrid layer were suppressed in AWB group. Conclusion: This study suggested that the AWB technique was effective in enhancing the dentin bond durability by increasing the wettability of dentin surface to dental adhesives, removing residual water in the hybrid layer, improving the penetration of adhesive monomer, and inhibiting the collagenolytic activities. Clinical significance: The lifespan of adhesive restorations would be increased by utilization of acetone wet-bonding technique.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the distribution and subcellular localisation of aquaporin 2 and vasopressin type 2 receptor in the human endolymphatic sac. METHODS Ten samples of human endolymphatic sac were collected during acoustic neurinoma removal using the translabyrinthine approach. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were performed using aquaporin 2 and vasopressin type 2 receptor monoclonal antibodies. RESULTS Confocal microscopy demonstrated that vasopressin type 2 receptor labelling was expressed in both the apical and basolateral plasma membranes, and in the cytoplasm of the endolymphatic sac epithelium, whereas aquaporin 2 was strongly expressed at the basolateral site of the endolymphatic sac epithelium, in both the intraosseous and extraosseous parts of the endolymphatic sac. CONCLUSION Both aquaporin 2 and vasopressin type 2 receptor were detected in the epithelial cells of the human endolymphatic sac, suggesting that this channel may be involved in inner-ear fluid homeostasis. However, strong basolateral expression of aquaporin 2 in endolymphatic sac epithelium suggested that the function of aquaporin 2 may differ between the endolymphatic sac and kidney.

Abstract
As COVID-19 and its variants spread across Australia at differing paces and intensity, the country's response to the risk of infection and contagion revealed an intensification of bordering practices as a form of risk mitigation with disparate impacts on different segments of the Australian community. Australia's international border was closed for both inbound and outbound travel, with few exceptions, while states and territories, Indigenous communities, and local government areas were subject to a patchwork of varying restrictions. By focusing on borders at various levels, our research traces how the logics of medico-legal bordering have filtered down from the international to the intra-national, and indeed, into hyper-local spaces. This is not just apparent in the COVID-19 moment but in previous pandemics of 1918 to 1919 influenza and smallpox, in which practices of quarantine and lockdowns were both unevenly distributed and implemented on multiple scales of social organization. An interdisciplinary approach between history and law reveals that human movement during pandemic times in Australia has been regulated in a manner that sees mobility as a risk to public health capable of mitigation through the strict enforcement of borders as a technology of both confinement and exclusion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the level of deltamethrin resistance and mutation sites in the sodium iron channel gene in Rhipicephalus microplus in Huaihua City, Hunan Province, and to examine the correlation between deltamethrin resistance and mutation sites in the sodium iron channel gene in Rh. microplus. METHODS Rh. microplus was sampled from multiple yellow cattle farms in Huaihua City, Hunan Province from June to September 2022, and the level of resistance to deltamethrin was determined in ticks using the adult immersion test. The sodium iron channel domain III gene was amplified in deltamethrin-resistant and wild-type Rh. microplus using PCR assay. Following sequencing and sequence alignment, mutation sites were detected in bases. The sodium iron channel domain III gene in Rh. microplus was translated, and the signal peptide, transmembrane domain, and phosphorylation and glycosylation sites were detected in amino acid sequences. The tertiary structures of the sodium iron channel domain III protein of deltamethrin-resistant and wild-type Rh. microplus were deduced and compared, and the association be tween mutation sites in bases and resistance to deltamethrin was examined in Rh. microplus according the level of deltamethrin resistance, sequence alignment and protein tertiary structure. RESULTS The median (LC50) and 95% lethal concentrations (LC95) of deltamethrin were 121.39 mg/L and 952.61 mg/L against Rh. microplus, with a resistance factor of 9.24 and level II resistance. The sequence of the sodium ion channel domain III gene was 1 010 bp in size, and mutation sites were detected in two neighboring bases in the sequence of the sodium ion channel domain III gene in deltamethrin-resistant Rh. microplus. Although no signal peptides were found in the sodium iron channel domain III protein of deltamethrin-resistant or wild-type Rh. microplus, 6 trans-membrane domains, 42 phosphorylation sites and 8 glycosylation sites were identified, with a significant difference in the tertiary structure of the sodium iron channel domain III protein between deltamethrin-resistant and wild-type Rh. microplus. CONCLUSIONS Level II resistance to deltamethrin is detected in Rh. microplus in Huaihua City, Hunan Province, and two mutation sites that correlate with the emergence of deltamethrin resistance are identified in the sequence of the sodium iron channel domain III gene in deltamethrin-resistant Rh. microplus.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Single-shade composite resins simplify the process of shade selection by providing a narrow range of color but the ability to simulate all shades. However, evidence is limited for the color shifting ability of a newly developed single‑shade composite resin. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the instrumental color adjustment potential (CAP-I) and visual color adjustment potential (CAP-V) of a recently introduced single-shade composite resin compared with conventional multishade composite resins against different background colors. MATERIAL AND METHODS Four multishade composite resins (Spectrum TPH3, Beautifil II, Clearfil AP-X, and Gradia Direct) and a single-shade composite resin (Charisma Diamond One) were tested. Four base shades (A1, A2, A3, and A3.5) of the same composite resin (Filtek Z350XT) were selected as different background colors. Dual specimens (an outer base material with an inner hole filled with inner test material) and single specimens of all test and base materials were prepared (n=6 per group). Spectral reflectance values were obtained by using a spectroradiometer. The color difference (ΔE00) and relative translucency parameter (RTP) were calculated by using the CIEDE2000 and RTPCIEDE2000 formula. Visual scoring of color matching was performed by independent observers. The CAP-I and CAP-V values were calculated according to ΔE00 and visual scoring. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for statistical analysis (α=.05). RESULTS CAP-I and CAP-V were significantly affected by composite resin type, background color, and their interaction (P<.001). Positive CAP-I and CAP-V values were found for the majority of test materials. Charisma Diamond One exhibited the highest CAP-I value under all background colors, the highest CAP-V value under most background colors, and the significantly highest RTP value (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS The color adjustment potential was dependent on the material type and background color. Charisma Diamond One exhibited the highest color adjustment potential and the most pronounced color shifting ability.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) AI autosegmentation of organs-at-risk (OARs) is common practice at many radiotherapy clinics. Despite the abundance of gross tumor volume (GTV) autosegmentation algorithms, adoption in clinical care has been slow due to the high risk associated with errors in GTV delineation. Here we present a failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to evaluate the risk associated with introducing AI derived GTVs in patients treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). MATERIALS/METHODS An AI GTV autosegmentation algorithm for brain metastases was developed in-house based on a V-Net 3D CNN. Registered CT and MR images and a contour of the brain are input into the software and all identified lesions are returned in a DICOM-RT structure set. Following algorithm evaluation, a workflow was developed to enable AI GTV autosegmentation to be introduced clinically for every SRS patient. The following steps were added to existing procedures: 1) workflow to send CT/MR and brain structure to external server, 2) autosegmentation run on the server, 3) AI GTV structures with a standard nomenclature added to existing OAR structure set, and 4) MD review, editing, and approval of AI GTVs. After successfully completing the physics evaluation testing of the new process, we formed a team of 10 faculty and staff including physicists, residents, physicians, and planners to perform the FMEA prior to clinical implementation. The team met to map the process, identify potential failure modes, and score their frequency of occurrence, severity, and detectability. A 3-point scale (1, 3, or 5) was used to simplify the scoring process. Occurrence was defined as rare, sometimes, or often; severity as low, medium, or high; and detectability as obvious, possible, or challenging. The risk probability numbers (RPNs) were calculated and the steps in the process with the highest RPNs were flagged for further discussion. RESULTS The FMEA team completed their process map and analysis primarily in 4 meetings. The process map began with acquisition of the patients CT simulation scan and ended with physician approval of final volumes for treatment planning. We identified 17 process steps and 72 possible failure modes, of which 26 were associated with the new workflow. Eighteen failure modes had an RPN greater than 30 (highest risk score in at least one category) and were flagged to assess mitigation strategies. Five were unique to the new AI GTV workflow and mitigation strategies will be designed prior to clinical use. Those involved risks related to inaccurate AI GTV contours, false positives, and an incomplete review stemming from over-reliance by team members on AI. CONCLUSION AI is increasingly being employed at every step of radiotherapy to automate and streamline processes. The FMEA analysis resulted in the identification of the riskiest parts of using AI GTV autosegmentation. This can be an effective tool in the development of checks to ensure that GTV autosegmentation methods can be safely introduced in support of patient care.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Primary small cell carcinoma of esophageal (PSCCE) is a rare malignancy with aggressive behavior associated with a perceived poor prognosis. Due to its rarity, the clinical characteristics and the optimal clinical management have not yet been defined, therefore, we designed a multicenter retrospective study to analyze the prognostic factors and the impact of treatment on the prognosis of PSCCE patients. MATERIALS/METHODS We retrospectively evaluated 704 consecutive patients with PSCCE from five participating centers between April 2008 and July 2021. The PSCCE was diagnosed based on the World Health Organization classification. Treatment strategies included surgery, radiotherapy (RT), or chemotherapy only, and combination of 2-3 treatment modalities (surgery, RT and chemotherapy). The estimated hazard rates provide the trajectory of progression and death overtime. Univariate survival analysis was conducted by using Kaplan-Meier plots, and the log-rank test was used to compare survival differences. Cox regression analysis was used to determine the independent prognostic factors in multivariate analysis. RESULTS Overall, 69.0% (486/704) of the patients were male, with a median age of 63 years (range 38-96). Most of the patients were regional lymph node positive (N+, 64.0%), and nearly half with advanced stage (M+, 47.2%). With a median follow-up time of 16 months, 472 patients (67.0%) exhibited disease progression and 429 patients (60.9%) died. Following initial treatment, 85.1% (402/472) of progression/death and 80.1% (344/429) of mortalities occurred within 24 months. Consistently, the maximum annual death and progression/death hazards are highest in the 15.6 months and 9.6 months. The overall survival (OS) rates at 1, 3 and 5 years for all patients were 65.1%, 26.5% and 18.3%, respectively. Univariate survival analysis showed that ECOG score, alcohol abuse, TNM stage, N stage, and M stage were correlated with OS (P <0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that the N stage (HR: 1.378, P = 0.018) and M stage (HR: 1.945, P <0.001) carried independent prognostic factors for OS. In the term of treatment, the OS rates for M- patients treated with combined modality therapy (CMT, surgery±radiotherapy/chemotherapy) were better than those treated with surgery alone or radiotherapy/chemotherapy (3-year OS: 36.7% VS 25.6% VS 32.2%; P = 0.045). The OS rates for M+ patients treated with chemotherapy alone, radiotherapy alone, or radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy were no significant differences (3-year OS: 12.2% VS 19.4% VS 11.1%; P = 0.400). CONCLUSION PSCCE is characterized by a high degree of malignancy with high risks of lymphatic and distant metastasis, N and M stages are the most important prognostic factor. In terms of treatment, comprehensive treatment is most likely to benefit patients without distant metastasis.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Brentuximab vedotin (BV) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) had important roles in the treatment of relapse or refractory (R/R) Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). Treatment of refractory disease after BV and -/or ICIs remains a challenge. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of radiotherapy for R/R HL after failure to BV or ICIs. MATERIALS/METHODS We retrospectively analyzed patients in two institutions with R/R HL who had failed after first-line therapy, and were refractory to BV or ICIs, and received radiotherapy (RT) thereafter. The overall response rate (ORR), duration of response (DOR), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 19 patients were enrolled. First-line systemic therapy consisted of ABVD (84.2%), AVD + ICIs (10.5%) and BEACOPP (5.3%), respectively. After first-line therapy, 15 patients (78.9%) were refractory, and 4 patients (21.1%) relapsed. After diagnosis of R/R HL, 8 patients (42.1%) received BV, and 17 patients (89.5%) received ICIs. RT was delivered in all 19 patients who failed after BV or ICIs. In 16 efficacy-evaluable patients, the ORR and CR rate were 100% and 100%. The median DOR was 17.2 months (range, 7.9 to 46.7 months). 3 patients progressed at outside of the radiation field. The in-field-response rate was 100%. The 12-month PFS and OS were 84.4% and 100%, respectively. No patients were reported with sever adverse events. CONCLUSION This study concluded that radiotherapy was effective and safe for refractory HL after BV or ICIs. Further prospective studies were warranted.

Abstract
Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is ubiquitous in natural environments, whereas its role in the transformation of coexisting contaminants may have been overlooked. In this work, it was reported for the first time that the irradiation of Cr(VI) by solar light (solar light/Cr(VI) system) could effectively degrade various micropollutants with different structures. The removal efficiency of selected micropollutants was increased by 13.3-64.8% by the solar light/Cr(VI) system compared to that by direct solar photolysis. Meanwhile, the oxidation rates were enhanced by 2.2-21.5 folds, while they were negligible by Cr(VI) oxidation alone. Experiments by specific scavengers, probe compounds, fluorescence absorbance, and electron spin resonance analysis demonstrated that hydroxyl radical (•OH) was the major reactive species in the solar light/Cr(VI) system. Further experiments showed that the generation of •OH was closely related to the intermediate Cr(V) generated from Cr(VI) reduction, and Cr(V) could be re-oxidized back to Cr(VI). Increasing solution pH negatively affected model micropollutant (carbamazepine (CBZ)) degradation by the solar light/Cr(VI) system, mainly due to the decreased quantum yield of •OH at higher pH. Coexisting sulfate ions showed negligible effect on CBZ degradation in the solar light/Cr(VI) system, while the presence of bicarbonate, chloride, and humic acid inhibited CBZ degradation to varying degrees, owing to their diverse scavenging effects on •OH. Furthermore, moderate CBZ degradation was also achieved by natural solar light photolysis of Cr(VI). This study demonstrated the pivotal role of Cr(VI) in the transformation of micropollutants under solar irradiation, which advances the understanding of the fate of micropollutants in natural environments.

Abstract
Oral biofilms, which are also known as dental plaque, are the culprit of a wide range of oral diseases and systemic diseases, thus contributing to serious health risks. The manner of how to achieve good control of oral biofilms has been an increasing public concern. Novel antimicrobial biomaterials with highly controllable fabrication and functionalization have been proven to be promising candidates. However, previous reviews have generally emphasized the physicochemical properties, action mode, and application effectiveness of those biomaterials, whereas insufficient attention has been given to the design rationales tailored to different infection types and application scenarios. To offer guidance for better diversification and functionalization of anti-oral-biofilm biomaterials, this review details the up-to-date design rationales in three aspects: the core strategies in combating oral biofilm, as well as the biomaterials with advanced antibiofilm capacity and multiple functions based on the improvement or combination of the abovementioned antimicrobial strategies. Thereafter, insights on the existing challenges and future improvement of biomaterial-assisted oral biofilm treatments are proposed, hoping to provide a theoretical basis and reference for the subsequent design and application of antibiofilm biomaterials.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the application value of shear wave dispersion (SWD) and shear wave elastography (SWE) combined with serological indicators in the evaluation of liver fibrosis. Methods: A total of 219 patients with liver disorders who underwent liver biopsy were prospectively collected in Huashan Hospital, Fudan University from January 2021 to September 2022, including 130 males and 89 females, aged from 18 to 76 (42±12) years. All patients underwent SWD and SWE examinations before liver biopsy. Serological indicators including alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alkaline phosphatase(ALP)) and γ-glutamyl transpeptadase (GGT) were also collected. Based on pathological diagnosis of liver fibrosis stage (from S0 to S4), the distribution of dispersion slope and liver elastic modulus at different fibrosis stages were analyzed in all patients. All patients were divided 7: 3 into training set (156 cases) and validation set (63 cases) in chronological order. In training set, factors influencing liver fibrosis≥S2 stage and S4 stage were analysed using binary logistic regression. The predictive models were established for diagnosing liver fibrosis≥S2 stage and S4 stage by using R language, and the models were evaluated by the area under curve (AUC) and calibrated for validation. Results: The dispersion slope and elastic modulus increased with the severity of fibrosis, with statistically significant differences in different fibrosis stages (both P<0.001). In training set, dispersion slope, elastic modulus, ALT, AST, and GGT were influential factors in liver fibrosis≥S2 stage and S4 stage(both P<0.05), and prediction models were constructed based on these indicators. In training set, the AUCs of the predictive model, SWD and SWE for diagnosingliver fibrosis≥S2 stage were 0.743 (95%CI: 0.665-0.821), 0.709 (95%CI: 0.628-0.790) and 0.725 (95%CI: 0.647-0.804), respectively; for diagnosing liver fibrosis S4 stage, the AUCs were 0.988 (95%CI: 0.968-1.000), 0.908 (95%CI: 0.852-0.963) and 0.974 (95%CI: 0.945-1.000), respectively. In validation set, the AUC of the predictive model, SWD and SWE for diagnosing liver fibrosis≥S2 stage were 08.735 (95%CI: 0.612-0.859), 0.658 (95%CI:0.522-0.793) and 0.699 (95%CI:0.570-0.828), respectively; for diagnosing liver fibrosis S4 stage, the AUC were 0.976 (95%CI: 0.937-1.000), 0.872 (95%CI: 0.757-0.988) and 0.948 (95%CI: 0.889-1.000), respectively. The calibration curves of the prediction models were consistent in the training and validation sets. Conclusion: The predictive model of SWD and SWE combined with serological indicators is helpful in the diagnosis of stage of liver fibrosis non-invasively.

Abstract
AIM To establish and assess a computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics nomogram for identifying malignant and benign Bosniak IIF masses. MATERIALS AND METHODS In total, 150 patients with Bosniak IIF masses were separated into a training set (n=106) and a test set (n=44) in a ratio of 7:3. A radiomics signature was calculated based on extracted features from the three phases of CT images. A clinical model was constructed based on clinical characteristics and CT features, and a nomogram incorporating the radiomics signature and independent clinical variables was established. The calibration ability, discrimination accuracy, and clinical value of the nomogram model were assessed. RESULTS Twelve features derived from CT images were applied to establish the radiomics signature. The performance levels of three machine-learning models were improved by adding the synthetic minority oversampling technique algorithm. The optimised machine learning model was a combination of the minimum redundancy maximum relevance-least absolute shrinkage and selection operator feature screening method + logistic regression classifier + synthetic minority oversampling technique algorithm, which demonstrated excellent identification ability on the test set (area under the curve [AUC], 0.970; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.940-1.000). The nomogram model displayed outstanding discrimination ability on the test set (AUC, 0.972; 95% CI, 0.942-1.000). CONCLUSIONS The CT-based radiomics nomogram was useful for discriminating between malignant and benign Bosniak IIF masses, which improved the precision of preoperative diagnosis.

Abstract
AIM To develop and test a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT)-based radiomics signature (RS) to preoperatively predict hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) expression in retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS). MATERIALS AND METHODS This study included 129 patients with RPS retrospectively who underwent CECT, including 64 male and 65 female patients (55 [2-84] years). Participants were divided into a training set comprising 85 patients and a test set comprising 44 patients. Clinical data and CECT findings of all patients were collected. RS construction was performed by the minimum redundancy maximum relevance method and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithm. The clinical information was analysed by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The RS and risk factors were included to build a radiomics nomogram. The predictive efficacy of different models was evaluated by accuracy, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), and decision curve analysis. RESULTS The RS combined signature was constructed on the basis of multi-phase CECT and had an accuracy of 0.795 and an AUC of 0.719 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.552-0.886) in the test set, which were higher than that of the radiomics nomogram (accuracy: 0.636; AUC: 0.702 [95% CI, 0.547-0.857]) and the clinical model (accuracy: 0.682; AUC: 0.486 [95% CI, 0.324-0.647]). The decision curve analysis showed that the RS combined signature provided better clinical application than the clinical model and radiomics nomogram. CONCLUSIONS The multi-phase CECT-based RS constructed can be used as a powerful tool for predicting HIF-1α expression in patients with RPS.

Abstract
Colloidal semiconductor quantum dots are a well-established technology, with numerous materials available either commercially or through the vast body of literature. The prevalent materials are cadmium-based and are unlikely to find general acceptance in most applications. While the III-V family of materials is a likely substitute, issues remain about its long-term suitability, and other earth-abundant materials are being explored. In this report, we highlight a nanoscale half-Heusler semiconductor, LiZnN, composed of readily available elements as a potential alternative system to luminescent II-VI and III-V nanoparticle quantum dots.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For patients with low- and intermediate-risk stage II/III rectal cancer, current studies have reached a consensus that preoperative radiotherapy may be dispensed with, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) alone might achieve an accepted local control. Our previous phase II study has evidenced that the morphological response of NCT could be better judged at a relatively early stage. Low- and intermediate-risk stage II/III rectal cancer patients could achieve a high rate of tumor shrinkage and downgrade after only 4 cycles of NCT and obvious tumor morphological changes could be observed after 2 cycles of NCT. However, there is still a lack of more detailed stratification and evidence for pathological criteria. The aim of the present study (comparison of the pathological response to 2 or 4 cycles of neoadjuvant CAPOX in II/III rectal cancer patients with low/intermediate risks, COPEC trial) is to determine the pathological tumor regression grade (pTRG) rate of 2 or 4 cycles of NCT in low- and intermediate-risk stage II/III rectal cancer and verify the feasibility of early identification of chemotherapy-insensitive population. METHODS/DESIGN This is a multicenter, prospective, non-inferior, randomized controlled trial (RCT) initiated by West China Hospital of Sichuan University and designed to be conducted in fourteen hospitals around China. Eligible patients will be centrally randomized into 2 or 4 cycles of CAPOX in a 1:1 ratio using the central automated randomization system offered by the O-trial online system ( https://plus.o-trial.com/ ) and accept total mesorectal excision after 2 or 4 cycles of CAPOX (oxaliplatin 130 mg/m2, once daily on day 1, every 21 days and capecitabine 1000 mg/m2, twice daily on days 1 to 14, every 21 days). The primary endpoint is the proportion of patients with pathological no-tumor regression (pTRG 3), which is determined postoperatively by each sub-center and verified by the primary center. DISCUSSION COPEC trial is designed to verify that the preoperative CAPOX chemotherapy for low- and intermediate-risk stage II/III rectal cancer could achieve a good response judgment after 2 cycles and obtain the tumor pathological response rate after 2 cycles of CAPOX. We hope the COPEC trial could help in establishing a consensus standard of low- and intermediate-risk rectal cancer and the early identification of stage II/III rectal patients with low- and intermediate-risk who are poorly responding to NCT. Abstract
Post-and-core crown is one of the most common forms of restoration of tooth after root canal therapy (RCT). Infection control is the core objective of RCT, which is usually well realized by endodontists. However, many prosthodontists often neglect the infection control of the tooth and the maintenance of the curative effect of RCT during the process of post-and-core crown, which may lead to the failure of the final restoration. The concept of integrated crown-root treatment advocated recently requires clinicians to consider the RCT and final restoration as a whole, rather than simply divided into two parts-endodontic treatment and restorative treatment. As the core content of integrated crown-root treatment, infection control should be taken seriously by clinicians and implemented throughout the whole treatment process, especially in the restorative treatment that is easily overlooked after RCT. Therefore, this article describes the infection control of post-and-core crown restoration, classifies the tooth requiring post-and-core crown restoration, and puts forward the measures of infection control before and during post-and-core crown restoration, in order to provide reference and guidance for clinical practice.

It presents a natural expression process that conforms to the divergent thinking of the brain, helping patients understand memory. This study aimed to investigate the impact of pain-education nursing with the aid of mind maps on postoperative pain scores and quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer. The medical records of 100 colorectal cancer patients treated from July 2020 to July 2022 were selected as retrospective research participants and divided into control and observation groups. The control group received routine pain care, and the observation group was given pain-education nursing based on a mind map. The effects on quality of life, pain, negative emotions, and comfort after nursing were compared between the 2 groups. There was no significant difference in quality of-life scores between the 2 groups before the nursing intervention (P > .05). After nursing, the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social functions of patients in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group. However, the overall quality of life and financial difficulties of patients in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < .05). The observation group's social, physical, and psychological comfort scores were significantly higher than those in the control group after nursing intervention (P < .05). After nursing, the observation group's visual analog scale scores at different times after the operation were significantly lower than those of the control group. The scores on the self-rating anxiety scale and self-rating depression scale in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < .05). Pain-education nursing based on mind maps can effectively improve the daily living ability, pain symptoms, and quality of life of patients after colorectal cancer, and there is a reference value for post-nursing care of patients after colorectal cancer.

Abstract
Dental esthetic restoration covers from facial esthetics to dental esthetics, from the realization of macroscopic to microscopic esthetic restoration goals. As an esthetic restorative dentist, he has to face and solve the increasingly high diagnosis and treatment needs of patients, the increasingly standardized needs of the dental industry, and the need for oral health to become an important part of the Healthy China strategy. Dentists engaged in esthetic restoration field should establish a concept and practice system of global esthetic restoration centered on esthetic diagnosis, interdisciplinary esthetic restoration as a means, and characterized by fine microscopic restoration. Dental esthetic restoration dentists should be the designer of esthetic restoration plans and treatment plans, as well as the implementers of the final esthetic effect. Dentists should accurately grasp the global diagnosis concept and practice system of esthetic restoration, and provide standardized and high-quality oral diagnosis and treatment services for more patients.

Abstract
As a global public health focus, oral health plays a vital role in facilitating overall health. Defected teeth characterized by exposure of dentin generally increase the risk of aggravating oral diseases. The exposed dentinal tubules provide channels for irritants and bacterial invasion, leading to dentin hypersensitivity and even pulp inflammation. Cariogenic bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation on dentin are responsible for tooth demineralization and caries. It remains a clinical challenge to achieve the integration of tubule occlusion, collagen mineralization, and antibiofilm functions for managing exposed dentin. To address this issue, an epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and poly(allylamine)-stabilized amorphous calcium phosphate (PAH-ACP) co-delivery hollow mesoporous silica (HMS) nanosystem (E/PA@HMS) was herein developed. The application of E/PA@HMS effectively occluded the dentinal tubules with acid- and abrasion-resistant stability and inhibited the biofilm formation of Streptococcus mutans. Intrafibrillar mineralization of collagen fibrils and remineralization of demineralized dentin were induced by E/PA@HMS. The odontogenic differentiation and mineralization of dental pulp cells with high biocompatibility were also promoted. Animal experiments showed that E/PA@HMS durably sealed the tubules and inhibited biofilm growth up to 14 days. Thus, the development of the E/PA@HMS nanosystem provides promising benefits for protecting exposed dentin through the coordinated manipulation of dentin caries and hypersensitivity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of a new cardiac rehabilitation mode on the cardiac function, mental state and quality of life of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with atorvastatin calcium tablets. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 120 AMI patients treated with PCI and atorvastatin calcium tablets between January 2018 and January 2019 were recruited and assigned 1:1 to receive either novel cardiac rehabilitation (experimental group) or conventional cardiac rehabilitation (control group), with 60 cases in each group. Outcome measures for evaluating the effectiveness of the novel cardiac rehabilitation mode included cardiac function indices, 6 minutes walking distance test (6MWD), adverse mental state, quality of life (QOL), incidence of complications, and satisfaction on recovery. RESULTS Patients after novel cardiac rehabilitation care showed better cardiac function than those with conventional care (p<0.001). Patients had longer 6MWD and higher QOL after novel cardiac rehabilitation care vs. those given conventional care (p<0.001). The lower scores of adverse mental state in the experimental group suggested a better psychological status of patients after receiving novel cardiac rehabilitation care when compared with those with conventional care (p<0.001). Patients were also more satisfied with the novel modality of cardiac rehabilitation care than with conventional care (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The new cardiac rehabilitation mode can effectively improve the cardiac function of AMI patients after PCI plus atorvastatin calcium tablets, enhance their cardiac function, mitigate their negative emotions, and reduce the risk of complications. Further trials are required prior to clinical promotion.

Abstract
The current development of microfluidics-based microphysiological systems (MPSs) will rapidly lead to a paradigm shift from traditional static 2-dimensional cell cultivation towards organized tissue culture within a dynamic cellular milieu. Especially organs-on-a-chip (OoCs) can very precisely re-create the mechanical and unique anatomical structures of the oral environment. This review provides an introduction to such technology, from commonly used chip materials and fabrication methods to the application of OoC in in vitro culture. OoCs are advantageous because of their small-scaled culture environment, the highly controlled dynamic experimental conditions, and the likeness to the in vivo structure. We specifically focus on current chip designs in dental, oral, and craniofacial (DOC) research. Also, future perspectives are discussed, like model standardization and the development of integrated platforms with advanced read-out functionality. By doing so, it will be possible for OoCs to serve as an alternative for animal testing and to develop highly predictive human models for clinical experiments and even personalized medicine.

Abstract
Introduction: Plaque biofilms, mainly formed by Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans), play an important role in the occurrence and development of dental caries. Antibiotic treatment is the traditional way to control plaque. However, problems such as poor drug penetration and antibiotic resistance have encouraged the search for alternative strategies. In this paper, we hope to avoid antibiotic resistance through the antibacterial effect of curcumin, a natural plant extract with photodynamic effects, on S. mutans. However, the clinical application of curcumin is limited due to its low water solubility, poor stability, high metabolic rate, fast clearance rate, and limited bioavailability. In recent years, liposomes have become a widely used drug carrier due to their numerous advantages, such as high drug loading efficiency, high stability in the biological environment, controlled release, biocompatibility, non-toxic, and biodegradability. So, we constructed a curcumin-loaded liposome (Cur@LP) to avoid the defect of curcumin.Methods: Cur@LP functioned with NHS can adhere to the surface of the S. mutans biofilm by condensation reaction. Liposome (LP) and Cur@LP was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The cytotoxicity of Cur@LP was evaluated by CCK-8 assay and LDH assay. The adhesion of Cur@LP to S. mutans biofilm was observed by confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). The antibiofilm efficiency of Cur@LP were evaluated by crystal violet staining, CLSM, and scanning electron microscope (SEM).Results: The mean diameter of LP and Cur@LP were 206.67 ± 8.38 nm and 312 ± 18.78 nm respectively. The ζ-potential of LP and Cur@LP were ∼−19.3 mV and ∼−20.8 mV respectively. The encapsulation efficiency of Cur@LP was (42.61 ± 2.19) %, and curcumin was rapidly released up to ±21% at 2 h. Cur@LP has negligible cytotoxicity, and can effectively adhered to the S. mutans biofilm and inhibited its growth.Discussion: Curcumin has been widely studied in many fields such as cancer, which can be attributed to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. At present, there are few studies on the delivery of curcumin to S. mutans biofilm. In this study, we verified the adhesion and antibiofilm of Cur@LP to S. mutans biofilm. This biofilm removal strategy has the potential to be translated into the clinic.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Research on the current place of 3-dimensionally printed implant surgical guides (3D-ISGs) among practicing dentists worldwide is lacking, with little research focused on dentists' experience, knowledge, attitude, or professional behavior related to 3D-ISG or on the main obstacle to adoption. PURPOSE The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to identify the adoption of 3D-ISG in dental practice in China and to determine factors that influence its further application and dentists' attitudes and willingness. MATERIAL AND METHODS Semistructured questionnaires were sent to a sample of Chinese dentists composed of users and nonusers of 3D-ISG. The questionnaires were displayed and distributed through a professional online survey system (http://www.wjx.cn) and a social media platform (WeChat). The responses were analyzed with multivariable generalized equations, and the effect of various demographic variables was determined, including dentist experience, academic degree, and type of practice (public or private). RESULTS A total of 2028 valid questionnaires were collected. In dental practice, 39.3% of the respondents used 3D-ISG. Respondents with a PhD (62.4%) used the 3D-ISG more than twice as frequently as respondents with a junior college degree or below (31.8%). The majority of the members of implantology departments (81.7%) applied 3D-ISG, but doctors in other departments used it at a rate of less than half. The 3D-ISG was most frequently used in the maxillary anterior area (78.4%), followed by the edentulous maxilla and mandible (61.0% and 60.5%, respectively). The main barriers were high initial cost, complex and time-consuming digital design, and lack of expertise in the proper use of 3D-ISG. CONCLUSIONS Most dentists did not use 3D-ISG in dental practice. The 3D-ISG application rate was significantly associated with sex, academic degree, years of dental practice, department, monthly income, and type of healthcare facility. To improve the popularity of 3D-ISG, particularly among dentists without advanced degrees, it would be important to optimize the digital design software program and provide sufficient training.

Abstract
Injective thermosensitive hydrogels are considered promising scaffolds to trigger dental pulp regeneration in devitalized human teeth. In this study, we developed a hydroxypropyl chitin (HPCH)/chitin whisker (CW) thermosensitive hydrogel with enhanced mechanical properties and biological activities. Exosomes can serve as biomimetic tools for tissue engineering, but the rapid clearance of unconjugated exosomes in vivo limits their therapeutic effects. To address this challenge, exosomes were isolated from human pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) and directly embedded into the HPCH/CW pre-gel to form an exosome-loaded hydrogel (HPCH/CW/Exo). The exosome-loaded thermosensitive hydrogel can be easily injected into an irregular endodontic space and gelated in situ. In vitro cell experiments proved that the delivery of exosomes significantly improved the ability of hydrogels to promote odontogenesis and angiogenesis. Meanwhile, in vivo animal experiments revealed the formation of new dental pulp-like tissues in an implanted tooth root model. Therefore, the proposed hydrogel provides a great potential alternative to traditional root canal therapy in dental clinics.

Abstract
The issue of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in the water has received critical attention due to the health effects on humans. In the water environment, interactions between bovine serum albumins (BSA), the most abundant water-soluble protein, and DBPs unavoidably occur. In this study, comparative binding interactions of two aromatic DBPs - 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) and 2,4,6-tribromophenol (TBP) with BSA were investigated systematically utilizing fluorescence spectrometry, UV absorption spectrometry, isothermal titration calorimetry and molecular docking approach. The fluorescence quenching results indicated that TCP/TBP could quench the endogenous fluorescence of BSA through static quenching mechanisms, and TBP showed a more substantial quenching effect. The binding constants were determined for TCP-BSA (3.638 × 105 L/mol, 303 K) and TBP-BSA (6.394 × 105 L/mol, 303 K) complexes, with TBP showing higher binding affinity than TCP. The thermodynamic study and docking analysis suggested that hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces were the primary interaction forces. Both of TCP and TBP were located in the subdomain IIIA of BSA, and TBP could form more stable complex than TCP. The results of the present study contributed valuable information on the environmental behaviors of halophenols in water environment from perspectives of binding with BSA.

Abstract
Objective: We sought to investigate the clinical characteristics and risk factors of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) complicated by autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA). Methods: Retrospective anaysis.Three hundred fifteen consecutive patients with APS were enrolled at the Department of Rheumatology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital between May 2017 to May 2021, and their clinical manifestations[including initial symptoms, time interval between APS onset and diagnosis, systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE), thrombotic events, obstetric morbidity, and extra-criteria manifestations] and laboratory test results[including blood routine, antiphospholipid antibodies(aPLs), blood lipid profile, homocysteine, anti-nuclear antibody profile, immunoglobulin levels, and complement levels] were collected. Then, univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. Clinical features and risk factors were analyzed using univariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results: Among 315 APS patients, 37 cases (11.7%) were complicated by AIHA, and AIHA was the first manifestation or co-occurrence. The median time interval between APS onset and diagnosis was 12 months. The proportion of SLE in APS patients combined with AIHA was higher than that in APS patients without AIHA[62.2%(23/37) vs. 19.4%(54/278), P<0.001]. There was no significant difference in the proportions of thrombosis and pregnancy morbidity between the two groups. In terms of extra-criteria manifestations, APS patients with AIHA had a significantly (P<0.05) greater risk of thrombocytopenia (OR=6.19, 95%CI 2.81-13.65) and higher proportions of hypocomplementemia, a positive lupus anticoagulant (LA) result, double aPLs positivity[i.e., any two of the following antibodies were positive: LA, anticardilolipin antibody(aCL), and anti-β2 glycoprotein Ⅰ(β2GPⅠ)], and triple aPLs positivity (i.e., LA, aCL, and anti-β2GPⅠ antibodies were all positive). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that SLE (OR=3.46,95%CI 1.60-7.48), thrombocytopenia (OR=2.56,95%CI 1.15-5.67), and hypocomplementemia (OR=4.29,95%CI 2.03-9.04) were independent risk factors for the complication of APS. In the primary APS subgroup, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that livedo reticularis (OR=10.51,95%CI 1.06-103.78), thrombocytopenia (OR=3.77, 95%CI 1.23-11.57), and hypocomplementemia (OR=5.92,95%CI 1.95-17.95) were independent risk factors for the complication of APS. Conclusions: AIHA is not rare in APS patients; moreover, it occurs more frequently in APS secondary to SLE and is more likely to present with a variety of extra-criteria manifestations. Patients with AIHA should be promptly tested for antiphospholipid antibody profiles and alerted to the possibility of thrombotic events.

Abstract
Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) was activated by ultraviolet-A light-emitting diode (UVA-LED), resulting in efficient removal of various pollutants, including dye, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides, with pseudo-first-order rate constants of 0.0610-0.159 min-1. Comparatively, UVA-LED or Cr(VI) alone barely degraded selected pollutants. Both HO• and Cr(V) were produced in the UVA-LED/Cr(VI) system based on scavenging and probing experiments, UV-visible and electron spin resonance spectra analysis. HO• was demonstrated to be the dominant reactive species via stepwise regeneration of Cr(V) to Cr(VI). The quantum yield of HO• was determined to be 7.79 × 10-4 mol Es-1 at a Cr(VI) dosage of 0.5 mM and pH of 6.0. Additionally, the degradation efficiency of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) as a model compound decreased linearly as UVA-LED wavelengths increased from 365 to 405 nm, while SMX was barely degraded at visible light irradiation wavelength ranges (449-505 nm). SMX degradation efficiency increased from 71.0 % to 97.5 % as Cr(VI) dosage increased from 0.05 to 0.7 mM. pH displayed a negative impact on SMX degradation with its removal efficiency decreasing from 99.4 % to 13.3 % as pH increased from 3.0 to 9.0. This study first reported that HO• was generated via activation of Cr(VI) by UVA-LED, which is instructive for the removal of pollutants co-existed in chromium-containing wastewater.

Abstract
Dentin is a natural extracellular matrix, but its availability in bone grafting and tissue engineering applications is underestimated due to a lack of proper treatment. In this study, the concept of extrafibrillar demineralization is introduced into the construction of dentin-derived biomaterials for bone regeneration for the first time. Calcium chelating agents with large molecular weights are used to selectively remove the extrafibrillar apatite minerals without disturbing the intrafibrillar minerals within dentin collagen, resulting in the formation of an extrafibrillarly demineralized dentin matrix (EDM). EDM with distinctive nanotopography and bone-like mechanical properties is found to significantly promote cell adhesion, migration, and osteogenic differentiation in vitro while enhancing in vivo bone healing of rat calvarial defects. The outstanding osteogenic performance of EDM is further confirmed to be related to the activation of the focal adhesion-cytoskeleton-nucleus mechanotransduction axis. Overall, this study shows that extrafibrillar demineralization of dentin has great potential to produce hierarchical collagen-based scaffolds for bone regeneration, and this facile top-down fabrication method brings about new ideas for the biomedical application of naturally derived bioactive materials.
