Abstract
AIM This review investigated the outcomes and methodological quality of infant sleep intervention studies utilizing actigraphy. BACKGROUND Parents need appropriate support for infant sleep from nurses. There are few methodological reports of actigraphy in infant sleep intervention studies that objectively measure infant sleep in a natural setting. DESIGN This was a systematic review study. DATA SOURCES Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL and PsycINFO were searched from database establishment to 30 December 2021. REVIEW METHODS This systematic review utilized the Cochrane Collaboration review guidelines. RESULTS Eleven sleep intervention studies were reviewed. Three used extinction-based behavioural interventions, and eight included parental education programs. The infant sleep interventions positively affected the sleep outcomes of both infants and parents. Fairly consistent effects were found on infants' number of awakenings and sleep onset latency. However, parental psychosocial outcomes were inconsistent. All studies reported device placement, the algorithm for analysis, the use of a sleep diary and number of days/nights, but external movements affecting infants' sleep records were insufficiently reported. Only two studies had a low risk of bias. CONCLUSIONS The infant sleep interventions had positive effects on both infants and their parents. Comprehensive methodological considerations are required for more standardized assessments using actigraphy for infant sleep evaluation.

Abstract
Generalized bullous fixed drug eruption (GBFDE) is a rare type of life-threatening severe cutaneous adverse reaction that is considered a medical emergency because of its potential lethality. Currently, only a few cases of bullous adverse reactions have been reported after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination. We describe a patient with distinct clinical, histopathological, and immunological findings that are consistent with severe GBFDE, after Pfizer messenger RNA COVID-19 vaccination. An 83-year-old man presented with a fever and well-demarcated multiple erythematous patches that occurred only 4 h after receiving the first dose of COVID-19 Pfizer vaccination. Over the next few days, the patches became generalized and turned into blisters covering approximately 30% of the body surface. The patient was started on intravenous methylprednisolone and oral cyclosporine. There were no additional blistering lesions after 10 days of treatment, prompting a gradual dose reduction. Our case suggests that a stepwise vaccination adhering to the standard dosing schedule should be warranted with close monitoring for possible significant side effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease characterized by a wide range of clinical symptoms affecting various bodily functions, including skeletal, vascular, metabolic, and cognitive functions. This review aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of integrative medicine (East Asian herbal medicine combined with conventional medicine) used for the treatment of inflammatory pain in rheumatoid arthritis and to identify key candidate drugs based on the data. METHODS A comprehensive literature search will be conducted in 4 core databases (PubMed, Excerpta Medica database, Cochrane Library, and Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature) 4 Korean databases (Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, Korean Studies Information Service System, Research Information Service System, and Korea Citation Index), 2 Chinese databases (Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Database and Wanfang data), and 1 Japanese database (Citation Information by National Institute of Informatics) for randomized controlled trials from December 13, 2022. Statistical analysis will be performed using R version 4.1.2 and R Studio program. The American College of Rheumatology 20/50/70 score and rate of adverse events will be the primary outcomes. All outcomes will be analyzed using a random-effects model to produce more statistically conservative results. Sensitivity, meta-regression, and subgroup analyses will be used to identify the sources of any heterogeneity in the study. The revised tool for assessing the risk of bias in randomized trials, version 2.0, will be used to evaluate methodological quality. The overall quality of evidence will be assessed according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation Pro Framework. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION There are no ethical issues, as no primary data will be collected directly from the participants. The results of this review will be reported in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. TRIAL REGISTRATION PROSPERO registration number: CRD42023412385.

Abstract
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a zoonotic tick-borne infectious disease caused by the SFTS virus (SFTSV). Few studies have assessed SFTS seroprevalence among veterinary hospital staff and their awareness of SFTS. From January to May 2021, serum samples from 103 veterinary hospital staff were tested for SFTS using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), an immunofluorescence assay, and a 50% plaque reduction neutralization antibody test, which yielded positive results in four (3.9%), three (2.9%), and two (1.9%) participants, respectively. A questionnaire was used for an epidemiological investigation. ELISA positivity was higher among those who lacked awareness of possible animal-to-human SFTS transmission (p = 0.029). SFTS awareness was significantly lower among veterinary hospital staff than among the veterinarians (p < 0.001). Providing staff with training concerning standard precautions and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment is important.

Statistical analysis will be performed using R version 4.1.2 and the R studio program using the default settings of the "meta" and "metafor" packages. The primary outcome will be an improvement in the psoriasis area severity index. All outcomes will be analyzed using a random-effects model to produce more statistically conservative results. If heterogeneity is detected in the study, the cause will be identified through sensitivity, meta-regression, and subgroup analyses. Methodological quality will be assessed independently using the revised tool for the risk of bias in randomized trials, version 2.0. The overall quality of evidence will be evaluated according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation pro framework. RESULTS This study will review all available trials on the same subject and arrive at a more statistically robust conclusion based on a sufficient sample size of participants and additional analysis using data mining techniques will be performed on intervention prescription information in clinical studies collected according to rigorous criteria. CONCLUSION We believe that this study will provide useful knowledge on managing inflammatory skin lesions of psoriasis vulgaris using integrative medicine using East Asian herbal medicine.

Abstract
Drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DiHS), also referred to as drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition induced by drug hypersensitivity that leads to significant morbidity and mortality and often occurs in patients undergoing combination antibiotic therapy. Due to a recent increase in the incidence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections, the occurrence of vancomycin-induced DiHS/DRESS has increased rapidly. However, because of insufficient pharmacogenetic data on vancomycin-induced drug eruptions in Asians coupled with the risk of re-eliciting the symptoms by provocation tests, confirmation of the culprit drug in vancomycin-induced DiHS/DRESS is often challenging. Here, we report a case of vancomycin-induced DiHS/DRESS, where the causal relationship was confirmed using a lymphocyte transformation test (LTT). A 51-year-old woman was treated with combination antibiotics, including vancomycin, for infective pericarditis. The patient subsequently developed fever, facial edema, generalized rash followed by multiple internal organ involvement, including the kidney, lung, liver, and heart. Thus, based on the International Registry of Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reaction (RegiSCAR) criteria, the case was diagnosed as 'definite' DiHS/DRESS, although the culprit drug was obscured by combination antibiotic therapy. The LTT confirmed that vancomycin, but not other glycopeptide antibiotics, specifically induced T-cell proliferation in this case. Collectively, our case suggests that clinicians can utilize LTT to identify the causative medication of DiHS/DRESS when the clinical information is limited to defining the culprit drug.

Abstract
Background Stomach cancer is one the most common neoplasms with high mortality. However, fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) in stomach cancer survivors has been scarcely evaluated. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate FCR and factors related to FCR in Korean stomach cancer survivors. Methods A total of 363 stomach cancer survivors who had completed primary treatment and had no metastasis or recurrence were recruited between September 2014 and March 2017 regardless of time lapse after the initial diagnosis. FCR was assessed using the Korean version of the FCR Inventory (FCRI). Participants were divided into two groups; clinical FCRI group (score of severity subscale of FCRI ≥ 13) and non-clinical FCRI group (the scores < 13). Socio-demographic factors, cancer stage, treatment, psychological factors, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and health promotion and disease prevention behaviors were obtained using a self–administered questionnaire supplemented with face-to-face interview to fill out incomplete information. Factors associated with FCR were evaluated using linear regression analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis after adjusting for age, sex, cancer stage, time since cancer diagnosis, family cancer diagnosis, and comorbidities. Results Average (standard deviation) time interval between cancer diagnosis and study participation was 7.3 (3.2) years. The distribution of socio-demographic and cancer–related factors did not differ according to the level of FCR. The higher FCRI level was associated with lower levels of social support (β: -0.190, p < 0.001), lower emotional function (β: -0.356, p < 0.001), more severe fatigue (β: 0.333, p < 0.001), more sleep problems (β: 0.299, p = 0.002), higher anxiety (β: 0.443, p < 0.001), and higher depression (β: 0.207, p < 0.001). However, clinical level of FCR was not associated with health promotion and disease prevention behaviors. Conclusions FCR in stomach cancer survivors was associated with social, psychological, and HRQoL factors rather than demographic, socioeconomic, or cancer–related factors. This finding suggests that careful attention to FCR is necessary to provide more comprehensive survivorship care for stomach cancer survivors.

Abstract
Aim This study examined the effects of a 12‐week school‐based “We Fit” weight control programme. Design A nonequivalent control group was used, with a non‐synchronized pretest–posttest design. Methods In total, 109 Korean high school adolescents participated. The programme comprised exergaming, diet diary and counselling, health education, and social networking service‐based group discussions. Anthropometric factors, physiological factors and physical activity (daily steps and sitting time) were measured in the intervention and the control groups before and after the intervention. Programme satisfaction was assessed post‐intervention. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics; the chi‐square, Mann–Whitney U and t tests; and generalized estimating equations. Results The intervention group showed a significantly decreased waist circumference, increased skeletal muscle mass, increased high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol, decreased low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol and reduced weekend sitting time. Conclusion This study adds to the evidence for the applicability and effectiveness of healthy weight control programmes using exergames for adolescents in school settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate factors associated with influenza vaccination in cancer survivors. METHODS Study subjects were 1,945 Korean adult cancer survivors. Through medical record review and self-administered questionnaires, social and medical information was collected. Influenza vaccination was defined as ever having received a flu vaccine between one year before cancer diagnosis and the survey date. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate factors associated with influenza vaccination. RESULTS Overall, 60.8% of study subjects had received an influenza vaccination. Younger survivors had a significantly lower vaccination rate than did the elderly survivors (80.22% vs. 54.73%). In younger survivors, longer time elapsed since cancer diagnosis, lifestyle modification counselling during cancer treatment, adequate physical exercise (≥150 min/week) and complementary medication use were positively associated with vaccination, whereas extra-pulmonary cancers, multimodality (≥3) cancer treatment and higher educational achievement were inversely associated. In elderly survivors, fewer factors had a positive (adequate physical exercise) or inverse (multimodality cancer treatment and current smoking) association with influenza vaccination. CONCLUSION Influenza vaccination rate was suboptimal, especially among younger cancer survivors. Targeted strategies are necessary to improve influenza vaccination in cancer survivors with consideration of individual characteristics such as age, lifestyle, cancer treatment modality, cancer type and education level.

Abstract
Copathologies play an important role in the expression of the AD clinical phenotype and may influence treatment efficacy. Early-onset AD (EOAD), defined as manifesting before age 65, is viewed as a relatively pure form of AD with a more homogeneous neuropathological substrate. We sought to compare the frequency of common neuropathological diagnoses in a consecutive autopsy series of 96 patients with EOAD (median age of onset = 55 years, 44 females) and 48 with late-onset AD (LOAD) (median age of onset = 73 years, 14 females). The UCSF Neurodegenerative Disease Brain Bank database was reviewed to identify patients with a primary pathological diagnosis of AD. Prevalence and stage of Lewy body disease (LBD), limbic age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (LATE), argyrophilic grain disease (AGD), hippocampal sclerosis (HS), cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), and vascular brain injury (VBI) were compared between the two cohorts. We found at least one non-AD pathological diagnosis in 98% of patients with EOAD (versus 100% of LOAD), and the number of comorbid diagnoses per patient was lower in EOAD than in LOAD (median=2 versus 3, Mann-Whitney Z = 3.00, p = 0.002). LBD and CAA were common in both EOAD and LOAD (CAA: 86% versus 79%, Fisher exact p = 0.33; LBD: 49% versus 42%, p = 0.48, respectively), although amygdala-predominant LBD was more commonly found in EOAD than LOAD (22% versus 6%, p = 0.02). In contrast, LATE (35% versus 8%, p < 0.001), HS (15% versus 3%, p = 0.02), AGD (58% versus 41%, p = 0.052), and VBI (65% versus 39%, p = 0.004) were more common in LOAD than EOAD, respectively. The number of copathologies predicted worse cognitive performance at the time of death on MMSE (1.4 points/pathology (95%CI [-2.5, -0.2]) and Clinical Dementia Rating - Sum of Boxes (1.15 point/pathology, 95%CI [0.45, 1.84]), across the EOAD and the LOAD cohorts. The effect of sex on the number of copathologies was not significant (p = 0.17). Prevalence of at least one APOE ε4 allele was similar across the two cohorts (52% and 54%) and was associated with a greater number of copathologies (+0.40, 95%CI [0.01, 0.79], p = 0.047), independent of age of symptom onset, sex, and disease duration. Females showed higher density of neurofibrillary tangles compared to men, controlling for age of onset, APOE ε4, and disease duration. Our findings suggest that non-AD pathological diagnoses play an important role in the clinical phenotype of EOAD with potentially significant implications for clinical practice and clinical trials design.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the image quality and radiation dose of ultralow-dose (ULD) and low-dose (LD) lower-extremity computed tomography (CT) angiography (LE-CTA) using the advanced modelled iterative reconstruction (ADMIRE) algorithm to detect peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in comparison with standard-dose (SD) CT. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred and seven consecutive patients were examined using LE-CTA at 70 kVp and a dual-source scanner to achieve three image sets using 30% (ULD), 70% (LD), and 100% (SD) tube loads. Qualitative analysis was conducted by examining the three image sets for overall quality. The image quality of arterial segments was analysed by two independent readers. In addition, the CT dose index (CTDIvol) was measured in the three image sets. RESULTS The mean overall quality scores were 3.4±0.6 for ULD CT, 3.9±0.3 for LD CT, and 3.9±0.2 for SD CT. Both readers scored the arterial segments as 2-4 (adequate-excellent) in the three image sets. In addition, 89.4% (93/104) and 54.8% (57/104) segments of PAD with calcified plaques were scored 4 between SD and LD CT and between SD and ULD CT, respectively, and 45.2% (47/104) segments had a lower score by one point in ULD CT compared with SD CT. The mean CTDIvol was 4.1±1.1 mGy for SD CT, 2.9±0.8 mGy for LD CT, and 1.2±0.3 mGy for ULD CT. CONCLUSIONS LD/ULD CT at 70 kVp using ADMIRE reconstruction enables a reduction in the radiation dose while enabling adequate evaluation or follow-up of PAD based on LE-CTA.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate factors associated with pneumococcal vaccination uptake (PVU) of cancer survivors. METHODS A total of 2032 Korean adult cancer survivors diagnosed between June of 1975 and February of 2018 have participated. Information on PVU status and selected variables were collected through self-administered questionnaires and medical record review. Factors associated PVU were investigated using multiple logistic regression analysis. RESULTS PVU rate markedly differed by age strata and cancer sites: 73.9% for elderly (≥ 65 years) survivors and 34.6% for younger (< 65 years) survivors and 73.4% for lung cancer survivors and 42.1% for non-lung cancer survivors. Regular physical exercise was associated with higher PVU in both age groups: Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were 1.52 (1.20, 1.94) for younger and 1.78 (1.09, 2.90) for elderly survivors. Complementary medication use was positively associated with PVU with borderline significance in both age groups. However, the association of PVU with other factors differed between the two age groups. In younger survivors, a positive association with PVU was evident for longer time lapse after cancer diagnosis, chronic disease, and living with spouse/or partner, while cancer stage, educational achievement, and alcohol use were inversely associated PVU. On the other hand, multi-modality (≥ 3) cancer treatment was inversely associated with PVU only in elderly survivors. CONCLUSIONS PVU of Korean cancer survivors was suboptimal in younger survivors and non-lung cancer survivors. Factors associated with PVU differed between younger and elderly survivors, and more diverse factors were identified for younger survivors. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS In order to promote adherence to PVU in cancer survivors, careful consideration of high-risk factors for non-immunization within cancer survivorship context would be necessary together with free-of-charge vaccination policy.

Abstract
PURPOSE This qualitative descriptive study sought to explore the experiences of fathers of children with severe congenital heart defects (CHDs) in Korea. METHODS The participants were nine fathers of children under 5 years of age who had undergone open heart surgery within the last 5 years. Data were collected using in-depth individual interviews from February to March 2015. Qualitative data were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. RESULTS Three themes and nine sub-themes emerged from the data. The three themes were "heartbreaking suffering," "self-control during a great struggle," and "being a father of a child with CHD." This study described coping strategies that fathers used to balance their life, including self-control, redefinition of the situation, and seeking family support resources, which enabled them to practice normalization and live an ordinary life despite limitations. CONCLUSION The findings of this study indicate that considerable psychological distress of fathers was similar to that of mothers for weeks to months after the sudden diagnosis of CHD and heart operations. The results also depict the coping strategies, contemporary fathering experience and the parenting role of fathers in raising children with severe CHDs. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Healthcare professionals should understand the experience of fathers of children with severe CHDs and their needs for social support. It is also necessary to develop nursing interventions that focus on fathers' needs.

Abstract
Low-oxygen stress, mainly caused by soil flooding, is a serious abiotic stress affecting crop productivity worldwide. To understand the mechanisms of low-oxygen stress responses and adaptation of plants, we characterized and compared low-oxygen responses in six species with different accessions of the Brassicaceae family. Based on the growth and survival responses to submergence or low-oxygen condition, these accessions could be divided into three groups: (i) Highly tolerant species (Rorippa islandica and Arabis stelleri); (ii) moderately tolerant species (Arabidopsis thaliana [esk-1, Ler, Ws and Col-0 ecotype]); and (iii) intolerant species (Thlaspi arvense, Thellungiella salsuginea [Shandong and Yukon ecotype], and Thellungiella parvula). Gene expression profiling using Operon Arabidopsis microarray was carried out with RNA from roots of A. thaliana (Col-0), A. stelleri, R. islandica, and T. salsuginea (Shandong) treated with low-oxygen stress (0.1% O2/99.9% N2) for 0, 1, 3, 8, 24, and 72 h. We performed a comparative analysis of the gene expression profiles using the gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) method. Our comparative analysis suggested that under low-oxygen stress each species distinctively reconfigures the energy metabolic pathways including sucrose-starch metabolism, glycolysis, fermentation and nitrogen metabolism, tricarboxylic acid flow, and fatty acid degradation via beta oxidation and glyoxylate cycle. In A. thaliana, a moderately tolerant species, the dynamical reconfiguration of energy metabolisms occurred in the early time points of low-oxygen treatment, but the energy reconfiguration in the late time points was not as dynamic as in the early time points. Highly tolerant A. stelleri appeared to have high photosynthesis capacity that could produce more O2 and in turn additional ATP energy to cope with energy depletion caused by low-oxygen stress. R. islandica seemed to retain some ATP energy produced by anaerobic energy metabolism during a prolonged period of low-oxygen conditions. Intolerant T. salsuginea did not show significant changes in the expression of genes involved in anaerobic energy metabolisms. These results indicate that plants developed different energy metabolisms to cope with the energy crisis caused by low-oxygen stress.

Abstract
Unexpected hair growth can occur after tissue injury. The pathogenic mechanism for this phenomenon is unknown but is likely related to inflammatory mediators. One such mediator is high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), a ubiquitous nuclear protein that is released from cell nuclei after tissue damage. To elucidate the effect of HMGB1 on hair growth and understand its mechanism of action, we evaluated the effect of HMGB1 treatment on hair shaft elongation and on mRNA and protein expression in cultured human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs). HMGB1 enhanced hair shaft elongation in an ex vivo hair organ culture. In hDPCs, HMGB1 treatment significantly increased mRNA and protein expression levels of prostagladin E synthases. HMGB1 also stimulated prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) secretion from hDPCs. Finally, blocking the receptor for advanced glycation end-products, a canonical HMGB1 receptor, inhibited HMGB1-induced PGE2 production and hair shaft elongation. Our results suggest that HMGB1 promotes hair growth via PGE2 secretion from hDPCs. This mechanism can explain the paradoxical phenomenon of trauma-induced hair growth. Thus, HGMB1 can be a viable therapeutic target for the treatment of alopecia.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We sought to establish the relationships between standard postmortem measures of AD neuropathology and antemortem [11C]PIB-positron emission tomography ([11C]PIB-PET) analyzed with the Centiloid (CL) method, a standardized scale for Aβ-PET quantification. METHODS Four centers contributed 179 participants encompassing a broad range of clinical diagnoses, PET data, and autopsy findings. RESULTS CL values increased with each CERAD neuritic plaque score increment (median -3 CL for no plaques and 92 CL for frequent plaques) and nonlinearly with Thal Aβ phases (increases were detected starting at phase 2) with overlap between scores/phases. PET-pathology associations were comparable across sites and unchanged when restricting the analyses to the 56 patients who died within 2 years of PET. A threshold of 12.2 CL detected CERAD moderate-to-frequent neuritic plaques (area under the curve = 0.910, sensitivity = 89.2%, specificity = 86.4%), whereas 24.4 CL identified intermediate-to-high AD neuropathological changes (area under the curve = 0.894, sensitivity = 84.1%, specificity = 87.9%). DISCUSSION Our study demonstrated the robustness of a multisite Centiloid [11C]PIB-PET study and established a range of pathology-based CL thresholds.

Abstract
Pathogenic variation in MAPT, GRN, and C9ORF72 accounts for at most only half of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) cases with a family history of neurological disease. This suggests additional variants and genes that remain to be identified as risk factors for FTLD. We conducted a case-control genetic association study comparing pathologically diagnosed FTLD patients (n = 94) to cognitively normal older adults (n = 3541), and found suggestive evidence that gene-wide aggregate rare variant burden in MFSD8 is associated with FTLD risk. Because homozygous mutations in MFSD8 cause neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL), similar to homozygous mutations in GRN, we assessed rare variants in MFSD8 for relevance to FTLD through experimental follow-up studies. Using post-mortem tissue from middle frontal gyrus of patients with FTLD and controls, we identified increased MFSD8 protein levels in MFSD8 rare variant carriers relative to non-variant carrier patients with sporadic FTLD and healthy controls. We also observed an increase in lysosomal and autophagy-related proteins in MFSD8 rare variant carrier and sporadic FTLD patients relative to controls. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that MFSD8 was expressed in neurons and astrocytes across subjects, without clear evidence of abnormal localization in patients. Finally, in vitro studies identified marked disruption of lysosomal function in cells from MFSD8 rare variant carriers, and identified one rare variant that significantly increased the cell surface levels of MFSD8. Considering the growing evidence for altered autophagy in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders, our findings support a role of NCL genes in FTLD risk and suggest that MFSD8-associated lysosomal dysfunction may contribute to FTLD pathology.

Abstract
Background Although the demand for esomeprazole is increasing in veterinary medicine, the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics of esomeprazole have been described in only a few studies. Objective To determine the PK of 0.5 and 1 mg/kg esomeprazole administered IV q12h and to investigate its effects on intragastric pH in healthy dogs. Animals Six adult Beagles. Methods Open‐label, randomized, and crossover design. The dogs received 0.5 or 1 mg/kg esomeprazole IV q12h for 48 hours. Plasma concentrations of esomeprazole were measured by high‐performance liquid chromatography‐tandem mass spectrometry. Intragastric pH was determined using the Bravo pH monitoring system and recorded as mean percentage time (MPT) for which pH was ≥3 and ≥4 for 24 hours in each group. Results The peak plasma concentration and area under the curve from the time of dosing to the last measurable concentration in the 1 mg/kg group were higher than those in the 0.5 mg/kg group. However, when the dosage normalized, intergroup differences were not significant. The MPTs for which intragastric pH was ≥3 and ≥4 for 48 hours were 88% ± 7% and 81% ± 9% for the 0.5 mg/kg group and 90% ± 9% and 85% ± 11% for the 1 mg/kg group, respectively, with no significant intergroup differences. Conclusions and Clinical Importance The pharmacokinetic parameters and acid suppressant effect for 0.5 and 1 mg/kg esomeprazole were not significantly different. Furthermore, the efficacy of esomeprazole 0.5 mg/kg IV q12h was sufficient to increase intragastric pH in Beagles.

Abstract
PURPOSE Adolescents are interested in weight control but likely practice unhealthy weight control behaviors. This study aimed to examine weight control behaviors associated with body mass index (BMI) in Korean adolescents. DESIGN AND METHODS In this descriptive cross-sectional study of 16- to 19-year-old adolescents (97 girls and 90 boys), analyses were conducted of physical activity, sedentary behaviors, dietary behaviors, and self-efficacy for physical activity and diet. Daily steps were measured using pedometers. Height and weight were self-reported. We conducted descriptive statistics and quantile regression analysis using STATA 14.0. RESULTS About 10% were underweight, and 8.6% overweight and obese. Average weekday and weekend steps/day were <10,000. Only 4.3% reported performing moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) daily. Less than half (42.5%) reported that they had three meals/day every day. Most (89.3%) had milk less than once/day. Quantile regression showed that, for the 5th BMI percentile group, (1) age (β = 0.941) and milk consumption (β = 2.148) were significantly positively associated with BMI, whereas (2) dietary self-efficacy (β = -0.083) was significantly negatively associated with BMI. For the 95th percentile group, having three meals/day (β = 2.558) was significantly positively associated with BMI, whereas MVPA (β = -5.440) and muscle-strengthening exercise (β = -3.392) were significantly negatively associated with BMI. CONCLUSIONS Milk consumption was positively associated with BMI of underweight adolescents, whereas physical activities were negatively associated with BMI of overweight and obese adolescents. PRACTICE IMPLICATION Weight control programs for adolescents may need to be tailored for differing BMI levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Intracranial arterial stenosis (ICAS) is one of the most common causes of stroke, especially in Asians. Hyperuricemia has been associated with an increased risk of comorbidities such as metabolic syndrome or cardiovascular diseases. However, there are few studies focusing on the association between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and asymptomatic ICAS. The aim of this study was to explore the association between SUA and the prevalence of ICAS in middle-aged Korean health screening examinees. METHODS AND RESULTS A cross-sectional study was performed on 9417 males and 7755 females who underwent a comprehensive health examination including transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasonography. The association of SUA and ICAS was analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. The prevalence of ICAS among the total examinee population was 3.55%. In females, the multivariate-adjusted odds ratio for ICAS was 1.52 (confidence interval 1.13-2.04) in the 3rd quartile of SUA and 1.45 (1.05-2.00) in the highest quartile, compared to the reference (P for trend 0.008). This trend was evident in all clinically relevant subgroups evaluated, including women with low inflammation status. SUA was not significantly associated with the prevalence of ICAS among males. In a sensitivity analysis, the multivariate-adjusted odds ratio of middle cerebral artery stenosis in females was 1.60 (1.09-2.37) in the highest quartile compared to the reference (P for trend 0.023). CONCLUSIONS Higher SUA level was associated with increased risk of ICAS among middle-aged females but not males. A further cohort study is warranted to elucidate the effect of SUA on asymptomatic ICAS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burkholderia cepacia is intrinsically resistant to certain antiseptics. The authors noted a sudden increase in the frequency of isolation of B. cepacia from blood cultures in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a university-affiliated hospital. AIM To identify the source and intervene in the ongoing infections. METHODS The cases were defined as patients with positive blood cultures for B. cepacia in an NICU between November 2014 and January 2015. Medical records were reviewed and NICU healthcare workers were interviewed. Samples of suspected antiseptics, blood culture bottles, cotton balls, gauze and a needle used in the NICU were analysed microbiologically. FINDINGS During the outbreak period, B. cepacia was identified in 25 blood cultures obtained from 21 patients. The clinical features of the patients were suggestive of pseudobacteraemia. Regarding environmental samples, B. cepacia was cultured from 0.5% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) solution products that had been used as a skin antiseptic during blood drawing in the NICU. The clinical B. cepacia isolate and two strains obtained from 0.5% CHG exhibited identical pulsed-field gel electrophoresis patterns. After the CHG products were withdrawn, the outbreak was resolved. CONCLUSIONS The pseudobacteraemia cases were caused by contaminated 0.5% CHG produced by a single manufacturer. Stricter government regulation is needed to prevent contamination of disinfectants during manufacturing. In addition, microbial contamination of antiseptics and disinfectants should be suspected when a B. cepacia outbreak occurs in hospitalized patients.

Abstract
Cell death-inducing DFF45-like effector (CIDE) B is a member of the CIDE family of apoptosis-inducing factors. In the present study, we detected a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), c.414G>A, which corresponds to the synonymous SNP 414Arg, in CIDE-B in the Berkshire pigs. We also analyzed the relationships between the CIDE-B SNP and various meat quality traits. The SNP was significantly associated with post-mortem pH24h, water-holding capacity (WHC), fat content, protein content, drip loss, post-mortem temperature at 12 h (T12) and 24 h (T24) in a co-dominant model (P < 0.05). A significant association was detected between the SNP and post-mortem pH24h, fat content, protein content, drip loss, shear force, and T24 in gilts; and color parameter b*, WHC, and T24 in barrows (P < 0.05). The SNP was significantly correlated with the fat content, and CIDE-B mRNA expression was significantly upregulated during the early stage of adipogenesis, suggesting that CIDE-B may contribute towards initiation of adipogenesis (P < 0.05). Furthermore, CIDE-B mRNA was strongly expressed in the liver, kidney, large intestine, and small intestine, and weakly expressed in the stomach, lung, spleen, and white adipose tissue. These results indicate that the CIDE-B SNP is closely associated with meat quality traits and may be a useful DNA marker for improving pork quality.

Abstract
Obesity is associated with a number of metabolic abnormalities such as type 2 diabetes and has become a major health problem worldwide. In the present study, we investigated the effects of Epimedium koreanum Nakai (Herba Epimedii, HE) and its main constituent icariin on the adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. HE extract and icariin significantly reduced lipid accumulation and suppressed the expressions of PPARγ, C/EBPα, and SREBP-1c in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. They also inhibited fatty acid synthase (FAS), acyl-Co A synthase (ACS1), and perilipin. Moreover, HE extract and icariin markedly increased the phosphorylation of AMPK. These results indicated that HE extract and icariin can inhibit the adipocyte differentiation through downregulation of the adipogenic transcription factors, suggesting that HE containing icariin may be used as a potential therapeutic agent in the treatment and prevention of obesity.

Abstract
Hibiscus syriacus (L.) (rose of Sharon) is one of the most widespread garden shrubs in the world. We report a draft of the H. syriacus genome comprised of a 1.75 Gb assembly that covers 92% of the genome with only 1.7% (33 Mb) gap sequences. Predicted gene modeling detected 87,603 genes, mostly supported by deep RNA sequencing data. To define gene family distribution among relatives of H. syriacus, orthologous gene sets containing 164,660 genes in 21,472 clusters were identified by OrthoMCL analysis of five plant species, including H. syriacus, Arabidopsis thaliana, Gossypium raimondii, Theobroma cacao and Amborella trichopoda. We inferred their evolutionary relationships based on divergence times among Malvaceae plant genes and found that gene families involved in flowering regulation and disease resistance were more highly divergent and expanded in H. syriacus than in its close relatives, G. raimondii (DD) and T. cacao. Clustered gene families and gene collinearity analysis revealed that two recent rounds of whole-genome duplication were followed by diploidization of the H. syriacus genome after speciation. Copy number variation and phylogenetic divergence indicates that WGDs and subsequent diploidization led to unequal duplication and deletion of flowering-related genes in H. syriacus and may affect its unique floral morphology.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Several studies have demonstrated an association between immediate autologous or implant-based breast reconstruction and a reduced incidence of lymphoedema. However, few of these have ocused specifically on whether the reconstruction method affects the development of lymphoedema. The study evaluated the potential impact of breast reconstruction modality on the incidence of lymphoedema.
Methods
Outcomes of women with breast cancer who underwent mastectomy and immediate reconstruction using an autologous flap or a tissue expander/implant between 2008 and 2013 were reviewed. Arm or hand swelling with pertinent clinical signs of lymphoedema and excess volume compared with those of the contralateral side was diagnosed as lymphoedema. The cumulative incidence of lymphoedema was estimated by the Kaplan–Meier method. Clinicopathological factors associated with the development of lymphoedema were investigated by Cox regression analysis.
Results
A total of 429 reconstructions (214 autologous and 215 tissue expander/implant) were analysed; the mean follow-up of patients was 45·3 months. The two groups had similar characteristics, except that women in the autologous group were older, had a higher BMI, and more often had preoperative radiotherapy than women in the tissue expander/implant group. Overall, the 2-year cumulative incidence of lymphoedema was 6·8 per cent (autologous 4·2 per cent, tissue expander/implant 9·3 per cent). Multivariable analysis demonstrated that autologous reconstruction was associated with a significantly reduced risk of lymphoedema compared with that for tissue expander/implant reconstruction. Axillary dissection, a greater number of dissected lymph nodes and postoperative chemotherapy were also independent risk factors for lymphoedema.
Conclusion
The method of breast reconstruction may affect subsequent development of lymphoedema.

Abstract
Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are useful genetic markers that allow correlation of genetic sequences with phenotypic traits. It is shown here that HSD17B4, a bifunctional enzyme mediating dehydrogenation and anhydration during β-oxidation of long-chain fatty acids, contains a non-synonymous SNP (nsSNP) of chr2:128,825,976A>G, c.2137A>G, I690V, within the sterol carrier protein-2 domain of the HSD17B4 gene, by RNA-Seq of liver RNA. The HSD17B4 mRNA was highly expressed in the kidney and liver among various other tissues in four pig breeds, namely, Berkshire, Duroc, Landrace, and Yorkshire. The nsSNP was significantly associated with carcass weight, backfat thickness, and drip loss (P < 0.05). Furthermore, HSD17B4 may play a crucial role during the early stages of myogenesis when expression of its mRNA was significantly high. In conclusion, HSD17B4 may serve as a possible regulator of muscle development, and its identification should help to select for improved economic traits of Berkshire pigs such as carcass weight, backfat thickness, and drip loss.

Abstract
A lymphatic malformation (LM) is the most common form of congenital vascular malformation (CVM). The new Hamburg classification of CVM distinguishes the truncular (T) form from the extratruncular (ET) form of LMs. Both are consequences of a developmental arrest at the different stages of lymphangiogenesis as a result of defective genes. The purpose of this review was to evaluate the current management results of both forms of LMs. A retrospective review of the clinical data of 315 patients with a diagnosis of LMs treated between September 1994 and December 2001 was performed. Lymphoscintigraphy was the most frequent diagnostic test. The patients with the ET form were treated with sclerotherapy with OK-432 and/or ethanol. Combinations of CDP (complex decongestive physiotherapy) and/or compressotherapy were used to treat all the T-form patients. In addition, surgery, either reconstructive or ablative, was offered to patients with the T form who failed to respond to the proper CDP. A multidisciplinary team performed the management of LM, and the results were evaluated every 6 months. Among 797 patients with CVM, 315 were confirmed to have LMs, either as the T form (226) or the ET form (89). Another 66 LMs were diagnosed with hemolymphatic malformations (HLM). Most of the ET forms (89/315) were the cystic type (70/89), while the T forms included aplasia and/or an obstruction (204/226). The ET form was most frequent in the head, neck, and thorax (69/89). The T form was located most frequently to the extremities (202/226), mostly to the lower limb (180/202). Two hundred and twenty-six T forms belonged to the various clinical stages: stages I-32, II-104, III-48, IV-18, and an unclear stage-24. The ET form was treated with sclerotherapy using OK-432 (108/120) and absolute ethanol (12/120). Among the 11 patients with the multiple ET form, 7 patients underwent perioperative sclerotherapy with OK-432 and a subsequent surgical excision. The clinical response of the T form at the extremity to CDP was excellent to good in a majority of clinical stages I to II (121/136) but decreased to a good to fair degree in stages III to IV (31/66). The additional surgical therapy, either reconstructive (10/19) or ablative (9/19), provided limited success in improving CDP efficacy, owing mainly to poor compliance. The long-term outcome of the initial success through self-motivated home-maintenance care during the follow-up period of up to 48 months was totally dependent on patient compliance. OK-432 sclerotherapy to 51 ET forms has shown excellent results on 88.9% of the cystic type (40/45) and 50% (3/6) of the cavernous type (minimum follow-up for 24 months). Seventeen ET forms in 7 patients were treated with a preoperative OK-432 sclerotherapy and a subsequent surgical excision, which provided good to excellent results in 14 for a minimum of 24 months. Primary lymphedema, which is the T form of LMs, can be managed safely by a combination of CDP with compressotherapy. Patients with good compliance can benefit from additional surgical therapy, either reconstructive or ablative. The ET form, particularly the cystic type, can be treated with various scleroagents that are preferably less toxic as the primary therapy. A surgical excision with or without perioperative sclerotherapy provides good results for patients with the localized cavernous type of the ET form. A multidisciplinary team approach is essential for the proper care of LM.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The aims of this study were to report functional outcomes of salvage procedures for patients with cerebral palsy (CP) who have chronic dislocation of the hip using validated scoring systems, and to compare the results of three surgical techniques. We reviewed 37 patients retrospectively. The mean age at the time of surgery was 12.2 years (8 to 22) and the mean follow-up was 56 months (24 to 114). Patients were divided into three groups: 14 who underwent proximal femoral resection arthroplasty (PFRA group 1), ten who underwent subtrochanteric valgus osteotomy (SVO group 2), and 13 who underwent subtrochanteric valgus osteotomy with resection of the femoral head (SVO with FHR group 3). All patients were evaluated using the Caregiver Priorities and Child Health Index of Life with Disabilities (CPCHILD) and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). Significant improvements occurred in most CPCHILD and PedsQL subsection scores following surgery in all patients, without significant differences between the groups. There were 12 post-operative complications. Less severe complications were seen in group 1 than in groups 2 and 3. Salvage surgery appears to provide pain relief in patients with CP who have painful chronic dislocation of the hip. The three salvage procedures produced similar results, however, we recommend the use of PFRA as the complications are less severe. TAKE HOME MESSAGE Salvage surgery can be of benefit to patients with CP with chronic painful hip dislocation, but should be limited to selected patients considering complications.

Abstract
Belching may result from transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxation; therefore, it has been proposed that belching may be a manifestation of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This study was conducted to investigate the frequency of belching during esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and its association with GERD. A retrospective review was performed on prospectively collected clinical and endoscopic data from 404 subjects who underwent EGD without sedation from December 2012 to May 2013 in a training hospital in Korea. All detectable belching events during endoscopy were counted. Frequency and severity of belching events were compared between the group with and without GERD using an ordinal logistic regression model. There were 145 GERD patients (26 erosive reflux disease and 119 nonerosive reflux disease [NERD]). In the multivariable analysis, GERD was significantly associated with a higher frequency of belching events (odds ratio = 6.59, P < 0.001). Central obesity, female, and younger age were also risk factors for frequent belching during EGD. Subgroup analyses were performed in subjects without erosive reflux disease (n = 378) and NERD (n = 293). NERD was also a predictive factor for frequent belching during EGD (odds ratio = 6.61, P < 0.001), and the frequency of belching was significantly correlated with GERD severity according to the Los Angeles classification (P < 0.05). Frequent belching during EGD was associated with GERD, including NERD. Future research should focus on its adjuvant role in the diagnosis of GERD/NERD and the necessity for applying differentiated endoscopy strategies for GERD patients, leading to less discomfort during EGD in patients at risk for intolerability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to assess the reliability of a novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scoring system for inflammatory lesions of facet joints and to clarify the clinical significance of facet joint inflammation in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). METHOD A total of 53 AS patients (45 males, 84.9%) were assessed for active inflammatory lesions involving the facet joints, as indicated by bone marrow oedema, at 23 discovertebral units (DVUs) between C2 and S1 using a novel scale, the AS Activity of the Facet joint (ASAFacet). The reliability of the ASAFacet was evaluated using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman plots. RESULTS ICC values for the ASAFacet scores were 0.857 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.741-0.919] for inter-observer and 0.941 (95% CI 0.873-0.969) for intra-observer reliability. Inflammatory activity scores in facet joints were evenly distributed at all spine levels (p = 0.294 for ASAFacet), whereas vertebral body inflammation was more prominent in the thoracic spine than in the cervical and lumbar spine [p < 0.001 for the AS spine MRI activity (ASspiMRI-a) score, p = 0.002 for the Berlin method, and p < 0.001 for the Spondyloarthritis Research Consortium of Canada (SPARCC) MRI index]. ASAFacet scores were closely associated with erythrocyte sediment rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels (p < 0.05, respectively). Patients with peripheral arthritis had fewer lesions involving the vertebral bodies or facet joints than patients without peripheral arthritis (p < 0.001 for the four different MRI activity indexes). CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that recognition of facet joint inflammation has the potential to contribute to our understanding of clinical outcomes in AS.

Abstract
Background Microalbuminuria and obesity markers are known risk factors for cardiovascular or renal disease. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of microalbuminuria according to body mass index (BMI) and abdominal obesity criteria. Methods The study subjects included 3,979 individuals aged 30 years or older who did not have diabetes, hypertension, renal failure, or overt proteinuria, from among those who participated in The Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2013, a cross-sectional, nationally representative, stratified survey. Microalbuminuria was defined as a urinary albumin to creatinine ratio of 30 to 300 mg/g. BMI and waist circumference were classified according to the Asia-Pacific criteria. Results The prevalence of microalbuminuria was found to be 5.1%. In the normoalbuminuria group, 3.4%, 41.7%, 24%, 27.6%, and 3.2% of participants were included in the underweight, normal, overweight, obesity 1, and obesity 2 groups, respectively. These percentages in the microalbuminuria group were 7.1%, 34.5%, 19.2%, 28.6%, and 10.6%, respectively (P<0.001). The waist circumference in men was 21.4% in the normoalbuminuria group and 36.5% in the microalbuminuria group (P=0.004). Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the relationship between the presence of microalbuminuria and BMI or waist circumference groups. The risk of microalbuminuria was significant only in the underweight group (odds ratio, 13.22; 95% confidence interval, 2.55–68.63; P=0.002) after adjusting for confounding factors, abdominal obesity was not significantly associated with microalbuminuria. Conclusion The prevalence of microalbuminuria in a general population in Korea was associated with underweight in men and was not associated with waist circumference in either men or women.

Abstract
We report the results of a one-stage rotational osteotomy of the proximal third of the ulna and distal third of the radius with segmental bone resection for treating congenital radioulnar synostosis. We retrospectively reviewed 25 patients (28 forearms) treated by operation. Patients were divided into two groups according to the method of internal fixation at the osteotomy sites. In Group 1 the ulnar osteotomy was stabilized with an intramedullary pin and in Group 2 no fixation was used. The average forearm position improved from 47° pronation before surgery, to 27° supination after surgery. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in surgical outcomes. One-stage rotational osteotomy of the proximal third of the ulna and distal third of the radius with segmental bone resection is a simple and safe treatment for patients with congenital radioulnar synostosis. Internal fixation at the osteotomy site seems to be unnecessary. Level of evidence: Level 4.

Abstract
Mitsugumin 29 (MG29) is related to the fatigue and aging processes of skeletal muscle. To examine the roles of MG29 in conjunction with its binding protein, the canonical-type transient receptor potential cation channel 3 (TRPC3), in skeletal muscle, the binding region of MG29 to TRPC3 was studied along with the functional relevance of the binding in mouse primary skeletal myotubes using co-immunoprecipitation assays and Ca(2+) imaging experiments. The N-terminus and the I-II loop of MG29 constitute the binding region for TRPC3. The myotubes that expressed the MG29 mutant missing the entire TRPC3-binding region showed a disrupted binding between endogenous MG29 and TRPC3 and a reduction in Ca(2+) transients in response to membrane depolarization without affecting ryanodine receptor 1 activity, the resting cytosolic Ca(2+) level, and the amount of releasable Ca(2+) from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Among the proteins mediating Ca(2+) movements in skeletal muscle, TRPC4 expression was significantly decreased by the MG29 mutant. Therefore, MG29 could be a new factor for regulating Ca(2+) transients during skeletal muscle contraction possibly via a correlation with TRPC3 and TRPC4.

Abstract
One hundred and twenty weanling pigs in experiment 1 (Exp. 1) (6.91±0.99 kg; 21 d of age) and Exp. 2 (10.20±1.09 kg; 28 d of age) were used in two 42-d and 35-d experiments to evaluate the effect of medium-chain-triglyceride (MCT) on growth performance, apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients and blood profile. In both of Exp. 1 and Exp. 2, the same dietary treatments were utilized as follows : i) negative control (NC), ii) positive control (PC), NC+antibiotics (40 mg/kg Tiamulin, 110 mg/kg Tylosin, and 10 mg/kg Enramycin, iii) MCT3, NC+0.32% (phase 1, 2 and 3) MCT, and iv) MCT5, NC+0.55% (phase 1), 0.32% (phase 2 and 3) MCT. In Exp. 1, the pigs fed MCT5 diets had higher (p<0.05) ADG compared to NC treatment during the first 2 wk. From d 15 to 28, the ATTD of energy was improved (p<0.05) by MCT3 compared to the PC treatment. No effect has been observed on the blood profiles [red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), immunoglobulin-G (IgG), lymphocyte concentration] measured in this study. In Exp. 2, the ADG were increased (p<0.05) by the MCT5 treatment than the PC treatment from d 0 to 14. Pigs fed PC treatment diet had lower ADFI (p<0.05) and better FCR (p<0.05) than NC treatment, whereas no differences were shown between MCT treatments and NC or PC treatment from d 15 to 35 and overall phase. The ATTD of DM and nitrogen were improved (p<0.05) by the effect of MCT5 related to the NC and PC treatment at the end of 2nd and 5th wk. The pigs fed MCT3 had higher (p<0.05) energy digestibility than PC treatment. No effects were seen in the blood profiles we measured (WBC, RBC, lymphocyte and immunoglobulin-G). In conclusion, the addition of MCT in the weanling pigs diet can improve the ADG and digestibility during the earlier period (first 2 wks), but had little effect on the blood characteristics.

Abstract
Three Korean native steers (779±24 kg) fitted with duodenal cannulas were used in a 3×3 Latin square design to investigate the influence of oral administration of soluble proteins, intact casein (IC) and acid hydrolyzed casein (AHC), on gastrointestinal hormone (GIH) secretion in the blood and pancreatic α-amylase activity in the duodenum. Oral treatment consisted of a basic diet (control), IC (C+100% protein), or AHC (C+80% amino acid, 20% peptide) for 21 d. Blood and duodenum samples were collected for measurement of serum GI hormones, and pancreatic α-amylase activity was determined at 900, 1030, 1330, 1630, and 1930 h after feeding on d 21 of treatment. The levels of serum cholecystokinin (CCK) and secretin in the IC treatment group were higher compared to the other treatment groups (p<0.05). In addition to the changes in CCK and secretin levels upon IC treatment, the pancreatic α-amylase activity in the duodenum was higher in the IC group compared to the control diet group (p<0.05). The response of serum ghrelin to IC and AHC treatment was in accordance with the response of serum secretin. The level of peptide fragments flowing in the duodenum was higher in the IC treatment group than the other treatment groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, this study demonstrated that an increase in duodenal CCK and secretin upon IC oral administration increased pancreatic α-amylase secretion. In addition, ghrelin may be associated with GI hormone secretion in Korean native steers.

Abstract
A total of 96 pigs (49.23±3.20 kg) were used in an 11 wk growth trial to evaluate the effect of fermentable carbohydrate (FC) content on growth performance, apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrient, blood profile, and meat quality. The dietary treatments were: i) negative control (NC), basal diet, ii) positive control (PC), NC+antibiotics (positive control diet with 5 ppm flavomycin), iii) PCL, PC-13% lower FC, and iv) NCL, NC-13% lower FC. The growth performance (average daily gain, average daily feed intake, and gain/feed) didn’t differ among treatments through the whole experiment. These pigs fed the PCL diet had the greater (p<0.05) apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dry matter than those from PC and NC treatment at the end of the experiment. No differences were observed in white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RBC), and lymphocyte concentration among different treatments. After the feeding period, meat samples were collected from the pigs at slaughter. The pigs in NCL and PCL treatments had greater (p<0.05) backfat thickness and lower lean percentage. The color value of loin was higher (p<0.05) in NCL treatment compared to PCL treatment. Also, the NCL treatment had higher (p<0.05) marbling value than PC treatment. The drip loss was depressed by PCL and NCL treatment comapared to NC treatments. The water holding capacity (WHC) was higher (p<0.05) in NC and PCL treatment. In conclusion, the low FC can improve digestibility and meat quality of finishing pigs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Posterior labral tear is frequently encountered in acetabular fractures with posterior wall component (AFPWC). However, there has been very little information in the literature on the type and management of traumatic labral tears in AFPWC. HYPOTHESIS Traumatic labral tear is a constant intracapsular injury in AFPWC and can be repaired using adequate methods according to its type and size. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective study of 14 patients (mean age 38 years [16-58]) who underwent open surgery for AFPWC was conducted using prospectively collected data. The types of posterior labral tear were investigated at intraoperative examination through the ruptured joint capsule or its extension, and were concomitantly managed. Surgical outcomes were clinically assessed using Merle d'Aubigné (PMA) score and Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and radiologically evaluated at final follow-up. RESULTS Posterior labral tears were present in all 14 patients. The types of labral tear were osseous avulsion and posterior root avulsion tear (n=9), longitudinal peripheral tear and posterior root avulsion tear (n=2), longitudinal peripheral tear (n=2), and osseous avulsion tear (n=1). All unstable labra in 12 patients (86%) were repaired. All avulsion tears of the posterior root were repaired using a suture anchor, longitudinal peripheral tears using suture fixation or/and suture anchors, and osseous avulsion tears using a spring plate. The mean PMA score and VAS were 16.4 (14-18) and 1.7 (0-3) at final follow-up, respectively. The radiologic grades at last follow-up were good or excellent in all patients. DISCUSSION All AFPWC in this study consistently revealed posterior labral tear. Posterior root avulsion tears accompanied with osseous avulsion was the most common type. Torn labra should be repaired as much as possible if unstable, considering the important functions of a normal labrum; fixation using a suture anchor may be useful for an avulsion tear of the posterior root. Abstract
AIM To evaluate the ability of interleukin (IL)-15 to control T cell functions through its influence on CD30 and OX40 expressing cells in Celiac Disease (CD). In peripheral blood (PB), by examining the expression of OX40 in conventional effectors cells and T cells with a phenotypic specialization of regulatory cells [CD4+CD25high forkhead box protein 3 (Foxp3)+], and the co stimulation of IFN-γ and IL-4 production within CD30 and OX40 positive subsets of T cells. At the duodenal mucosa, by assessing the expression of CD30 and OX40 in intraepithelial (IE) and lamina propria (LP) lymphocytes (IEL, LPL). PATIENTS AND METHODS PB and duodenal mucosal biopsies were obtained from 38 patients with classic CD (Cel) and 38 healthy controls (HC). Analysis of cell surface and/or intracellular antigens was performed in anti-CD3-treated PB mononuclear cells (PBMC) before and after treatment with recombinant IL-15 (rIL-15), and in IE and LP cellular suspensions prepared from duodenal biopsies pre-treated with/without rIL-15. RESULTS A subpopulation of CD3+OX40+ T blasts was induced in Cel and HC by a 3days treatment of PBMC with anti-CD3 and decreased its size thereafter, regardless of the presence of rIL-15. However, the addition of rIL-15 to T blasts distinctively induced the survival of T cells with a regulatory phenotype that expresses OX40 antigen in Cel (p<0.05). Celiac patients showed higher frequencies of IFN-γ-producing CD3+CD30+ blasts before and after treatment with rIL-15 (p<0.05, vs. HC). IL-15 increased the frequencies of CD3+CD30+ LPL (HC: p<0.05, Cel: p<0.05) but not of CD3+OX40+ LPL, and CD30 or OX40 positive IEL. CONCLUSIONS The distinctive control of OX40+ cells with a T regulatory phenotype mediated by the influence of IL-15 comes out as new function of this cytokine in the context of CD. The higher production of IFN-γ by a subpopulation of peripheral CD3+CD30+ cells contributes to the type I biased immune response.

Abstract
Soil waterlogging is a serious constraint to crop production. We investigated the physiological responses of rape (Brassica napus L.) seedlings to waterlogging stress and analyzed global gene transcription responses in the aerial leaves of waterlogged rape seedlings. Seedlings of 'Tammi' and 'Youngsan' cultivars were subjected to waterlogging for 3 and 6 days and recovery for 5 days. Waterlogging stress caused a significant decrease in leaf chlorophyll content and premature senescence of the leaves. Maximal quantum efficiency of PSII (F(v)/F(m)) decreased in the waterlogged seedlings compared with the control plants. To evaluate whether the observed physiological changes in the leaves are associated with the differential regulation of gene expression in response to waterlogging stress, we analyzed the global transcriptional profile of leaves of 'Tammi' seedlings that were exposed to waterlogging for a short period (36 and 72 h). SolexaQA RNA-seq analysis revealed that a total of 4,484 contigs (8.5 %) of all contigs assayed (52,747) showed a twofold change in expression after 36 h of the start of waterlogging and 9,659 contigs (18.3 %) showed a twofold change after 72 h. Major genes involved in leaf photosynthesis, including light reactions and carbon-fixing reactions, were downregulated, while a number of genes involved in the scavenging of reactive oxygen species, degradation (proteins, starch, and lipids), premature senescence, and abiotic stress tolerance were upregulated. Transcriptome analysis data suggested that the aerial leaves of waterlogged rape seedlings respond to hypoxia by regulating the expression of diverse genes in the leaves.

Abstract
The angiopoietin/Tie2 system is an important regulator of angiogenesis and inflammation. In addition to its functions in endothelial cells, Tie2 expression on non-endothelial cells allows for angiopoietin ligands to stimulate the cells. Although Ang1 is a strong Tie2 receptor agonist, little is known regarding the effect of Ang1 on non-endothelial cells, such as monocytes and macrophages. In this study, we found that Ang1 functionally binds to and stimulates monocytes via p38 and Erk1/2 phosphorylation. Ang1-mediated monocyte stimulation is associated with proinflammatory cytokine TNF-α expression. We also determined that Ang1 switched macrophage differentiation toward a pro-inflammatory phenotype, even in the presence of an anti-inflammatory mediator. These findings suggest that Ang1 plays a role in stimulating pro-inflammatory responses and could provide a new strategy by which to manage inflammatory responses.

Abstract
Angiopoietin 1 (Ang1) plays an important role in various endothelial functions, such as vascular integrity and angiogenesis; however, less is known about its function outside of the endothelium. In this study, we examined whether Ang1 has direct effects on skeletal muscle cells. We found that Ang1 exhibited myogenic potential, as it promoted the proliferation, migration, and differentiation of mouse primary skeletal myoblasts. The positive effect of Ang1 on myoblast proliferation could have been mediated by the α7 and β1 integrins. We also found that Ang1 potentiated cellular Ca(2+) movements in differentiated myotubes in response to stimuli, possibly through the increased expression of two Ca(2+) -related proteins, namely, Orai1 and calmodulin. Ang1 also increased Orai1 and calmodulin expression in mouse hearts in vivo. These results provide an insight into the molecular mechanisms by which Ang1 directly affects the myogenesis of striated muscle.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether bulky lymphadenopathy located in the abdominopelvic cavity in cervical cancer can be controlled without severe toxicity by increasing radiation dose using helical tomotherapy. From January 2007 to December 2010, 26 patients with cervical cancer with metastatic lymph nodes (LNs) having at least one short diameter > 1.5 cm were treated with helical tomotherapy. A total of 58 LN sites were treated and the largest LN of each site was evaluated for response. Median follow-up time was 28 months (4-50 months). Median short diameter of the LNs was 1.7 cm (0.7-4.2 cm) with median radiation dose of 62.6 Gy(10) in 2 Gy equivalent dose (53.3-77.9 Gy(10)). Initial LN response was evaluated on imaging obtained within 4 months after radiotherapy. Initial complete response (CR), partial response (PR), and stable disease (SD) were observed in 54, 2 and 2 lesions, respectively. Recurrence occurred in two with CR and progression in one with PR. Therefore, final CR, PR, SD, and progression of disease were observed in 52, 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Actuarial 3-year LN progression-free survival and overall survival (OS) were 63% and 65%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed final LN response (CR vs. non-CR) as a strong prognostic factor for OS (p = 0.016). Radiation Therapy Oncology Group grade 2 or more acute and late toxicity was observed in 8 and 1 patients, respectively. The treatment of bulky lymphadenopathy using helical tomotherapy in advanced cervical cancer is highly effective and has acceptable toxicity.
