Abstract
Early interventions may promote reductions in mothers' anxiety-depression (AD) symptoms and improvements in their offspring. This longitudinal randomized research was conducted to assess the effects of interdisciplinary online therapeutic groups (GIO) in at-risk mothers and babies during the COVID-19 pandemic in a disadvantaged neighborhood in Barcelona (Spain). A total of 135 babies were born from March 2020 to June 2021 in a primary healthcare center of Barcelona (Spain). Pregnant woman and new mothers were screened for AD symptomatology through EPDS and STAI questionnaires. Seventy-two of them met high-risk criteria for AD and were included in the study. They were randomly assigned into the two groups of the study: 40 participants were assigned to GIO, the therapeutic group (TG), while 32 of them were assigned to the control group (CG) and received treatment as usual. The course of the mothers' symptomatology was assessed, as well as the baby's development at 6 months old in a blind pediatric follow-up. No differences were found in AD between both groups before the intervention. However, we obtained a significant decrease in AD symptomatology (EPDS p < .001; STAI state p = .015 and STAI trait p < .001at 6 months of life) after the intervention in the TG compared to the CG. Pediatric follow-up at 6 months demonstrated significant differences between groups in babies' development assessment (manipulation p = .003; language p < .001; sociability p < .001). The GIO helped to ensure healthy development of the baby and reduction of the mothers' depressive-anxiety symptomatology.

Prematurity and congenital malformations differ according to the type of pregestational diabetes. BMC Pregnancy Childbirth 2024; 24:335. [PMID: 38698309 PMCID: PMC11064320 DOI: 10.1186/s12884-024-06470-7] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/11/2024] [Accepted: 03/30/2024] [Indexed: 05/05/2024] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common metabolic disorder in pregnancy. Women with Type 2 DM seems to have no better perinatal outcomes than those with Type 1 DM. METHODS Single-center prospective cohort observational study. Pregnant women with diabetes (141 with Type 1 DM and 124 with Type 2 DM) that were followed in the university hospital between 2009 and 2021 were included in this study. Clinical data and obstetric and perinatal outcomes were collected. RESULTS As expected, women with Type 1 DM were younger and had a longer duration of diabetes than women with Type 2 DM. Obesity and chronic hypertension were higher in the group of women with Type 2 DM and their value of HbA1c in the second and third trimesters were lower than in Type 1 DM. No differences in prematurity were found, but more extreme prematurity was observed in Type 2 DM, as well as a higher rate of congenital malformations. The frequency of hypoglycemia and the weight of the newborn was higher in Type 1 DM. The maternal independent factors related to the weight of the newborn were: the glycemic control at the third trimester, the weight gain during pregnancy, and pregestational BMI. CONCLUSIONS Newborns born to mothers with Type 1 DM were larger and had a higher frequency of hypoglycemia, while congenital malformations and precocious preterm was more associated to Type 2 DM. Metabolic control, weight gain and pregestational weight were important determinants of both obstetric and neonatal complications.

Prognostic value of EndoPredict test in patients with hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative primary breast cancer screened for the randomized, double-blind, phase III UNIRAD trial. ESMO Open 2024; 9:103443. [PMID: 38692082 PMCID: PMC11070798 DOI: 10.1016/j.esmoop.2024.103443] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/28/2023] [Revised: 03/15/2024] [Accepted: 04/04/2024] [Indexed: 05/03/2024] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the multigene EndoPredict test in prospectively collected data of patients screened for the randomized, double-blind, phase III UNIRAD trial, which evaluated the addition of everolimus to adjuvant endocrine therapy in high-risk, hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative early breast cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients were classified into low or high risk according to the EPclin score, consisting of a 12-gene molecular score combined with tumor size and nodal status. Association of the EPclin score with disease-free survival (DFS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier estimates. The independent prognostic added value of EPclin score was tested in a multivariate Cox model after adjusting on tumor characteristics. RESULTS EndoPredict test results were available for 768 patients: 663 patients classified as EPclin high risk (EPCH) and 105 patients as EPclin low risk (EPCL). Median follow-up was 70 months (range 1-172 months). For the 429 EPCH randomized patients, there was no significant difference in DFS between treatment arms. The 60-month relapse rate for patients in the EPCL and EPCH groups was 0% and 7%, respectively. Hazard ratio (HR) supposing continuous EPclin score was 1.87 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.4-2.5, P < 0.0001]. This prognostic effect remained significant when assessed in a Cox model adjusting on tumor size, number of positive nodes and tumor grade (HR 1.52, 95% CI 1.09-2.13, P = 0.0141). The 60-month DMFS for patients in the EPCL and EPCH groups was 100% and 94%, respectively (adjusted HR 8.10, 95% CI 1.1-59.1, P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS The results confirm the value of EPclin score as an independent prognostic parameter in node-positive, hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative early breast cancer patients receiving standard adjuvant treatment. EPclin score can be used to identify patients at higher risk of recurrence who may warrant additional systemic treatments.

Abstract
The objectives of this study were to assess: 1) differences in the metabolic status, systemic inflammation, daily milk yield, and daily rumination time between Holstein dairy cows with different vaginal discharge scores (VDS) in the first 7±3 DIM, and 2) effects of intrauterine dextrose infusion on metabolic status, systemic inflammation, daily milk yield and daily rumination time in dairy cows with VDS4 and VDS5. Cows (n=641) from a farm located in central Pennsylvania were screened at 7±3 DIM (study d 0) to assess vaginal discharge scores. Vaginal discharge was scored using a five-point scale (i.e., 1- clear fluid, 2- <50% white purulent fluid, 3- >50% white purulent fluid, 4- red-brownish fluid without fetid smell, and 5- fetid red-brownish watery fluid). Cows with VDS4 and VDS5 were blocked by parity and randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups: 1) CONV (VDS4 n=15; VDS5 n= 23): two injections of ceftiofur (per label; 6.6 mg/Kg) 72 h apart; and 2) DEX (VDS4 n=15; VDS5 n=22): three intrauterine infusions of a 50% dextrose solution (1 L/cow) every 24 h. Cows that presented a VDS 1, 2, and 3 were categorized as normal vaginal discharge animals (NOMVDS; n=35) and were randomly selected and matched by parity to CONV and DEX cows. Daily milk yield and rumination time for the first 150 DIM were collected from on-farm computer records. Blood samples were collected to assess haptoglobin (HP) and β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) concentrations at study d 0, d 7, and d 14 relative to enrollment. Subclinical ketosis was defined as having a BHB concentration >1.2 mmol/dL at any of the sampling points. The data were analyzed using the MIXED and GLIMMIX procedures of SAS as a randomized complete block design. When comparing cows with different VDS (i.e., NOMVDS, VDS4, VDS5) separately, cows with VDS5 had the highest concentration of HP at enrollment compared to cows with VDS4 and NOMVDS; however, cows with VDS4 had higher concentrations of HP compared to cows with NOMVDS. Cows with VDS4 or VDS5 had a higher incidence of subclinical ketosis compared to cows with NOMVDS (p=0.005; VDS4= 62.08±9.16%; VDS5=74.44±6.74%; NOMVDS=34.36±8.53%). Similarly, daily milk yield (p<.0001; VDS4=30.17±1.32 kg/d; VDS5=27.40±1.27 kg/d; NOMVDS=35.14±1.35 kg/d) and daily rumination time (p=0.001; VDS4=490.77±19.44 min; VDS5=465±16.67 min; NOMVDS=558.29±18.80 min) was lower for cows with VDS4 and VDS5 compared to cows with NOMVDS at 7±3 days in milk. When analyzing HP concentration between treatment groups in cows with VDS4 (p=0.70), VDS5 (p=0.25), or VDS4 and VDS5 combined (p=0.31), there was no difference in HP concentration by study d 14 between treatment groups. Interestingly, when only cows with VDS4 were considered for treatment, both treatments, DEX and CONV, increased the daily milk yield to the levels of NOMVDS cows by 14 days in milk. On the other hand, when only cows with VDS5 were considered for treatment, cows treated with DEX produced, on average, 4.48 kg/d less milk in the first 150 days in milk compared to cows treated with CONV or cows that had NOMVDS. Similarly, when cows with either VDS4 or VDS5 were considered for treatment, DEX treatment also impaired milk yield. These results suggest that cows with either VDS 4 or 5 have an altered inflammatory status, and decreased milk yield and rumination compared to cows with NOMVDS. Furthermore, DEX treatment may have similar effects on daily milk yield and metabolic status compared to CONV in cows with VDS4, while DEX is not recommended for cows with VDS5.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯]. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250-450, 450-650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4_{-0.9}^{+1.0} and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)_{-1.4}^{+1.8}(syst) pb.

Abstract
ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb^{-1} of p+Pb data collected at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, R_{CP}, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The R_{CP} shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, x_{p}, while no such trend is observed as a function of x_{Pb}. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to x_{p}∼10^{-3} and x_{Pb}∼4×10^{-4}.

Exploring priming strategies to improve stress resilience of Posidonia oceanica seedlings. MARINE POLLUTION BULLETIN 2024; 200:116057. Abstract
Seagrasses' ability to store information after exposure to stress (i.e. stress memory) and to better respond to further stress (i.e. priming) have recently been observed, although the temporal persistence of the memory and the mechanisms for priming induction remain to be defined. Here, we explored three priming strategies in Posidonia oceanica seedlings, each inducing a different level of stress, for temperature and salinity. We investigated changes in morphometry, growth rate and biomass between primed and non-primed seedlings. The results showed similar behaviour of seedlings when exposed to an acute stress event, regardless of whether they had been primed or not and of the priming strategy received. This opens the debate on the level of stress necessary for inducing a priming status and the persistence of the stress memory in P. oceanica seedlings. Although no priming-induced stress resistance was observed, seedlings showed unexpectedly high resilience to extreme levels of both abiotic stressors.

Search for New Phenomena in Two-Body Invariant Mass Distributions Using Unsupervised Machine Learning for Anomaly Detection at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. Abstract
Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Abstract
A measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson combining the H→ZZ^{*}→4ℓ and H→γγ decay channels is presented. The result is based on 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector during LHC run 2 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV combined with the run 1 ATLAS mass measurement, performed at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding a Higgs boson mass of 125.11±0.09(stat)±0.06(syst)=125.11±0.11 GeV. This corresponds to a 0.09% precision achieved on this fundamental parameter of the Standard Model of particle physics.

Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Abstract
We report on the results obtained with the global CUPID-0 background model, which combines the data collected in the two measurement campaigns for a total exposure of 8.82 kg×yr of ^{82}Se. We identify with improved precision the background sources within the 3 MeV energy region, where neutrinoless double β decay of ^{82}Se and ^{100}Mo is expected, making more solid the foundations for the background budget of the next-generation CUPID experiment. Relying on the excellent data reconstruction, we measure the two-neutrino double β-decay half-life of ^{82}Se with unprecedented accuracy: T_{1/2}^{2ν}=[8.69±0.05(stat)_{-0.06}^{+0.09}(syst)]×10^{19} yr.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst) fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36} fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Measurement of the Sensitivity of Two-Particle Correlations in pp Collisions to the Presence of Hard Scatterings. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:162301. Abstract
A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the "ridge"-i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities-and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8 pb^{-1}, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v_{2}, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

Abstract
A search is made for potential ccc[over ¯]c[over ¯] tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four muon final state using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J/ψ+J/ψ→4μ and J/ψ+ψ(2S)→4μ, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J/ψ channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J/ψ+ψ(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of τ-lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions Pb+Pb→Pb(γγ→ττ)Pb and constraints on the τ-lepton anomalous magnetic moment a_{τ}. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.44 nb^{-1} of LHC Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment in 2018. Selected events contain one muon from a τ-lepton decay, an electron or charged-particle track(s) from the other τ-lepton decay, little additional central-detector activity, and no forward neutrons. The γγ→ττ process is observed in Pb+Pb collisions with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations and a signal strength of μ_{ττ}=1.03_{-0.05}^{+0.06} assuming the standard model value for a_{τ}. To measure a_{τ}, a template fit to the muon transverse-momentum distribution from τ-lepton candidates is performed, using a dimuon (γγ→μμ) control sample to constrain systematic uncertainties. The observed 95% confidence-level interval for a_{τ} is -0.057

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) is an alternative to local radiation therapy for brain metastases, reducing total treatment time, and improving patient comfort, but the most effective dose is unknown. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of IORT in patients with surgical excision of brain metastases at a dose of 20 Gy. MATERIALS/METHODS This trial is a single-institution, open-label, prospective, non-randomized study for intraoperative radiotherapy immediately after resection of brain metastases. Registered in January 2021, currently ongoing, planned to enroll 25 patients with IK ≥70, brain damage newly diagnosed by MRI, without dural contact and at least 1 cm to the optic nerve, chiasm and brainstem. In the baseline visit, the General Cognitive State will be carried out: Minimum Mental State Exams. Specific cognitive study: 1- Processing speed (SYmbol digit modalities test), 2- Executive function (TMT, back and forward digit span test, phonological and semantic verbal fluency test, Stroop color-word test), 3- Verbal memory (FCSRT). Quality of life will be monitored by completing the EORTC QL-C30 and BN20 questionnaires. Intraoperative radiation therapy will be performed with a 50 kV low energy X-ray portable linear accelerator using spherical applicators ranging from 1.5 to 4 cm kV to deliver 20 Gy to the surface. During IORT a maximum dose (DMax) of 8 Gy will be allowed to the optic nerve/chiasm and brainstem structures. MRI will be performed 72 hours after IORT. Neurocognitive Test and MRI after 6 weeks and every 3 months. The primary endpoint will be local progression free survival (PFS). Secondary endpoints will be overall survival, time to save cancer therapy, cognitive performance and quality of life, as well as IORT-related neurotoxicity complications will be evaluated according to the scale of the CTACAE version 4. The analysis of the median local progression free survival, overall survival will be analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier curve (long range test). All results will be considered statistically significant with a p value < 0.05. The statistical analysis will be carried out with statistical software. RESULTS The trial is open and ongoing to recruitment; we have included 7 patients. The 85.7% were male, mean age was 61.4 years range (43-74). The 57.1% were lung cancer metastases. For now, no tumor recurrence or neurocognitive complications have been observed and then once you have the results ready, we will publish them. CONCLUSION The limited current literature on the use of IORT in brain metastases appears to show efficacy and safety, but the most effective dose is unknown as well as whether it is as effective as other radiotherapy alternatives. Our study is ongoing and needs to be completed and evaluated with more follow-up in order to reach definitive conclusions.

Improving Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Documentation at an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023; 117:S16. [PMID: 37784401 DOI: 10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.06.234] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 10/04/2023]
Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) To increase the rate of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) patient data collection in healthcare software for new patients at a NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, via targeted identification of Advanced Practice Providers (APP), development of novel SOGI collection workflows, creation of a real-time SOGI data dashboard, and tailored training utilizing existing High Reliability Organization (HRO) huddles in order to measure, analyze, and improve the quality of care, safety, and patient experiences for Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) patients. MATERIALS/METHODS Prior to interventions, project leadership (PL) and data analytics staff obtained SOGI baseline data, while cancer center clinical leadership, registration, and administrative staff identified APPs as the most appropriate staff to collect patient SOGI data. Intervention 1: PL met with Disease Management Groups (DMG)/HRO leads of thoracic medical oncology to identify a practice-level APP champion. PL and the APP champion scripted language for multiple scenarios when asking SOGI questions, and served as a resource for additional practice APPs. PL provided SGM-focused training during HRO huddles, which included how to ask and document SOGI, and significance of asking SOGI information. SOGI data completion rate was tracked on a HRO scorecard. This intervention was replicated across additional DMG/HROs during the study period. Intervention 2: Breast surgical oncology completed Intervention 1 and added SOGI questions to their new patient-facing intake form, allowing patients to self-identify. PL and data analytics team provided continuous feedback to DMG/HRO leads on provider-level completion rates and additional education as needed. RESULTS At the end of the Interventions, there were 9 LGBTQ+ Knowledge and Awareness HRO training sessions completed resulting in over 300 unique individuals receiving advanced SOGI documentation education. For intervention 1, there were 12,322 new patients asked their SOGI information, which was a greater than 300% increase in SOGI documentation (baseline completion rate for sexual orientation and gender identity was 17% and 21%, respectively, which improved to 77% and 84%). For intervention 2, there were 3,217 new patients asked their SOGI information, which was a greater than 400% increase (baseline completion rate for sexual orientation and gender identity was 13% and 16%, respectively, which improved to 81% and 81%). CONCLUSION Together, patient self-reporting quickly increased data completion rates from baseline, comparable to clinical sites from Intervention 1, and may decrease the burden of APPs collecting SOGI history; however, clinical review of questions is important and may further increase SOGI data completion. Leadership buy-in, site champions, and active data monitoring are essential to measurable change. Together, improved SOGI data completion will allow for improved equitable cancer care and increased assessment of SGM cancer disparities.

Strong Constraints on Jet Quenching in Centrality-Dependent p+Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV from ATLAS. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:072301. Abstract
Jet quenching is the process of color-charged partons losing energy via interactions with quark-gluon plasma droplets created in heavy-ion collisions. The collective expansion of such droplets is well described by viscous hydrodynamics. Similar evidence of collectivity is consistently observed in smaller collision systems, including pp and p+Pb collisions. In contrast, while jet quenching is observed in Pb+Pb collisions, no evidence has been found in these small systems to date, raising fundamental questions about the nature of the system created in these collisions. The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has measured the yield of charged hadrons correlated with reconstructed jets in 0.36 nb^{-1} of p+Pb and 3.6 pb^{-1} of pp collisions at 5.02 TeV. The yields of charged hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>0.5 GeV near and opposite in azimuth to jets with p_{T}^{jet}>30 or 60 GeV, and the ratios of these yields between p+Pb and pp collisions, I_{pPb}, are reported. The collision centrality of p+Pb events is categorized by the energy deposited by forward neutrons from the struck nucleus. The I_{pPb} values are consistent with unity within a few percent for hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>4 GeV at all centralities. These data provide new, strong constraints that preclude almost any parton energy loss in central p+Pb collisions.

Abstract
A search for a long-lived, heavy neutral lepton (N) in 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is reported. The N is produced via W→Nμ or W→Ne and decays into two charged leptons and a neutrino, forming a displaced vertex. The N mass is used to discriminate between signal and background. No signal is observed, and limits are set on the squared mixing parameters of the N with the left-handed neutrino states for the N mass range 3 GeV

Abstract
A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H→γγ channel using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data. Constraints are set on the parameters describing the strength of the CP-odd component in the coupling between the Higgs boson and the electroweak gauge bosons in two effective field theory bases: d[over ˜] in the HISZ basis and c_{HW[over ˜]} in the Warsaw basis. The results presented are the most stringent constraints on CP violation in the coupling between Higgs and weak bosons. The 95% C.L. constraint on d[over ˜] is derived for the first time and the 95% C.L. constraint on c_{HW[over ˜]} has been improved by a factor of 5 compared to the previous measurement.

Abstract
In this Letter, we present the design and performance of the frequency-dependent squeezed vacuum source that will be used for the broadband quantum noise reduction of the Advanced Virgo Plus gravitational-wave detector in the upcoming observation run. The frequency-dependent squeezed field is generated by a phase rotation of a frequency-independent squeezed state through a 285 m long, high-finesse, near-detuned optical resonator. With about 8.5 dB of generated squeezing, up to 5.6 dB of quantum noise suppression has been measured at high frequency while close to the filter cavity resonance frequency, the intracavity losses limit this value to about 2 dB. Frequency-dependent squeezing is produced with a rotation frequency stability of about 6 Hz rms, which is maintained over the long term. The achieved results fulfill the frequency dependent squeezed vacuum source requirements for Advanced Virgo Plus. With the current squeezing source, considering also the estimated squeezing degradation induced by the interferometer, we expect a reduction of the quantum shot noise and radiation pressure noise of up to 4.5 dB and 2 dB, respectively.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a recognized risk factor for dementia, and increasing evidence shows that tooth loss is associated with cognitive impairment and dementia. However, the effect of the co-occurrence of DM and edentulism on cognitive decline is understudied. This 12-y cohort study aimed to assess the effect of the co-occurrence of DM and edentulism on cognitive decline and examine whether the effect differs by age group. Data were drawn from the 2006 to 2018 Health and Retirement Study. The study sample included 5,440 older adults aged 65 to 74 y, 3,300 aged 75 to 84 y, and 1,208 aged 85 y or older. Linear mixed-effect regression was employed to model the rates of cognitive decline stratified by age cohorts. Compared with their counterparts with neither DM nor edentulism at baseline, older adults aged 65 to 74 y (β = -1.12; 95% confidence interval [CI], -1.56 to -0.65; P < 0.001) and those aged 75 to 84 y with both conditions (β = -1.35; 95% CI, -2.09 to -0.61; P < 0.001) had a worse cognitive function. For the rate of cognitive decline, compared to those with neither condition from the same age cohort, older adults aged 65 to 74 y with both conditions declined at a higher rate (β = -0.15; 95% CI, -0.20 to -0.10; P < 0.001). Having DM alone led to an accelerated cognitive decline in older adults aged 65 to 74 y (β = -0.09; 95% CI, -0.13 to -0.05; P < 0.001); having edentulism alone led to an accelerated decline in older adults aged 65 to 74 y (β = -0.13; 95% CI, -0.17 to -0.08; P < 0.001) and older adults aged 75 to 84 (β = -0.10; 95% CI, -0.17 to -0.03; P < 0.01). Our study finds the co-occurrence of DM and edentulism led to a worse cognitive function and a faster cognitive decline in older adults aged 65 to 74 y.

Spontaneous pregnancies post-microsurgical varicocelectomy in infertile men with severe oligozoospermia: a preliminary vietnamese report. LA CLINICA TERAPEUTICA 2023; 174:126-131. Abstract
Background This study evaluated whether microsurgical varico-celectomy performed in infertile men with severe oligozoospermia (SO) resulted in improved semen parameters or increased rates of spontaneous pregnancy (SP) and performed a cost-effectiveness analysis comparing intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and varicocelectomy. Methods This study included 25 patients with SO who underwent microsurgical varicocelectomy between September 2019 and May 2022, which resulted in post-surgical SP in all cases. Men with azoospermia, abnormal karyotype, or Y-chromosome microdeletion were excluded from the study. Serum luteinizing, follicle-stimulating, and testosterone hormones were measured preoperatively. Semen was analyzed every 3 months postoperation. The incidence of SP was recorded at each visit. Cost-effectiveness for assisted reproductive technologies was calculated based on reported costs. Several parameters were evaluated as potential predictors of the response to microsurgical varicocelectomy using univariate and multivariate analyses. Results After a mean postoperative observation period of 7 months, 25 couples with SP after microsurgical varicocelectomy were recruited. The mean sperm concentration increased from 3 million/mL (interquartile range [IQR]: 2-5 million/mL) to 12 million/mL (IQR: 5-17 million/mL; p<0.05), and mean sperm motility improved from 4% (IQR: 3%-6%) to 7.6% (p<0.05). Total motile sperm count (TMSC) increased to 3.08 million (IQR: 1.02-5.83 million) from a preoperative value of 0.34 million (IQR: 0.16-0.83 million). A cost-effectiveness analysis comparing IVF with varicocelectomy indicates that varicocelectomy may represent a better first-line option for infertile men with very low preoperative TMSC. However, further research remains necessary to confirm this result. Conclusion Varicocelectomy should be discussed as a treatment option for men with SO and may improve sperm quality and fertility potential, resulting in SP.

Abstract
The order Corynebacteriales includes major industrial and pathogenic actinobacteria such as Corynebacterium glutamicum or Mycobacterium tuberculosis . Their elaborate multi-layered cell wall, composed primarily of the mycolyl-arabinogalactan-peptidoglycan complex, and their polar growth mode impose a stringent coordination between the septal divisome, organized around the tubulin-like protein FtsZ, and the polar elongasome, assembled around the tropomyosin-like protein Wag31. Here, we report the identification of two new divisome members, a gephyrin-like repurposed molybdotransferase (GLP) and its membrane receptor (GLPR). We show that the interplay between the GLPR/GLP module, FtsZ and Wag31 is crucial for orchestrating cell cycle progression. Our results provide a detailed molecular understanding of the crosstalk between two essential machineries, the divisome and elongasome, and reveal that Corynebacteriales have evolved a protein scaffold to control cell division and morphogenesis similar to the gephyrin/GlyR system that in higher eukaryotes mediates synaptic signaling through network organization of membrane receptors and the microtubule cytoskeleton.

Phosphoproteomic analysis of neoadjuvant breast cancer suggests that increased sensitivity to paclitaxel is driven by CDK4 and filamin A. Nat Commun 2022; 13:7529. Abstract
Precision oncology research is challenging outside the contexts of oncogenic addiction and/or targeted therapies. We previously showed that phosphoproteomics is a powerful approach to reveal patient subsets of interest characterized by the activity of a few kinases where the underlying genomics is complex. Here, we conduct a phosphoproteomic screening of samples from HER2-negative female breast cancer receiving neoadjuvant paclitaxel (N = 130), aiming to find candidate biomarkers of paclitaxel sensitivity. Filtering 11 candidate biomarkers through 2 independent patient sets (N = 218) allowed the identification of a subgroup of patients characterized by high levels of CDK4 and filamin-A who had a 90% chance of achieving a pCR in response to paclitaxel. Mechanistically, CDK4 regulates filamin-A transcription, which in turn forms a complex with tubulin and CLIP-170, which elicits increased binding of paclitaxel to microtubules, microtubule acetylation and stabilization, and mitotic catastrophe. Thus, phosphoproteomics allows the identification of explainable factors for predicting response to paclitaxel.

Postpartum intrauterine dextrose infusion: Effects on uterine health, metabolic stress, systemic inflammation, and daily milk yield in clinically healthy dairy cows. JDS COMMUNICATIONS 2022; 4:121-126. Abstract
The objective of this study was to assess the effect of intrauterine dextrose infusion at 4 ± 1 d in milk (DIM) on the incidence of clinical metritis (CM), metabolic stress [i.e., body condition score (BCS), β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) concentration, and subclinical ketosis incidence], systemic inflammation (i.e., haptoglobin concentration), and daily milk yield in clinically healthy postpartum dairy cows. Cows (n = 245) from a dairy farm located in southwest Pennsylvania were screened at 4 ± 1 DIM using a Metricheck (Simcro Tech Ltd.) device to assess vaginal discharge. In addition, overall cow health (e.g., lameness, abnormal breathing) and rectal temperature were assessed at this time. Cows (n = 134) that presented a clear dense vaginal discharge, were in clinically good health status, and had a normal rectal temperature (i.e., <39.7°C) were blocked by parity (primiparous = 64; multiparous = 70) and randomly assigned to 1 of 3 groups: (1) SAL (n = 45): 1 intrauterine infusion of isotonic saline solution (1 L/cow); (2) DEX (n = 44): 1 intrauterine infusion of a 50% dextrose solution (1 L/cow), or (3) CON (n = 45): cows remained untreated. Cows were re-screened at 7 d after enrollment (11 ± 1 DIM) using the Metricheck device to assess CM incidence (research clinical metritis incidence; RCMI). On-farm computer records (i.e., Dairycomp 305) were also used to collect clinical metritis incidence (farm clinical metritis incidence; FCMI). In addition, BCS was assessed and blood samples were collected at enrollment and at study d 7, 14, and 21. Furthermore, daily milk yield and clinical disease events for the first 60 DIM were collected from on-farm computer records. The data were analyzed using the MIXED and GLIMMIX procedures of SAS (SAS Institute Inc.) as a randomized complete block design. Although not significant, the RCMI and FCMI in DEX and SAL cows were on average 14.5 and 18.1 percentage points higher, respectively, compared with CON cows. The SAL cows had higher BHB and haptoglobin concentrations and higher incidence of subclinical ketosis compared with CON cows on study d 7. With regard to daily milk yield, there was a day by treatment interaction, where CON cows produced more milk on certain days compared with DEX and SAL cows. Based on these findings, authors conclude that intrauterine dextrose infusion in clinically healthy postpartum cows with normal vaginal discharge may be prejudicial for cow health and performance.

Abstract
The pandemic of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is still impacting not only on human health but also all economic activities, especially in those related to tourism. In this study, in order to characterize the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in a hot spring park in Uruguay, swimming pools water, wastewater, and surface water from this area were analyzed by quantitative PCR. Wastewater from Salto city located next to the hydrothermal spring area was also evaluated as well as the presence of Rotavirus (RV). Overall, SARS-CoV-2 was detected in 13% (13/102) of the analyzed samples. Moreover, this virus was not detected in any of the samples from the swimming pools water and was present in 18% (3/17) of wastewater samples from the hotels area showing the same trend between the titer of SARS-CoV-2 and the number of infected people in Salto city. SARS-CoV-2 was also detected in wastewater samples (32% (11/34)) from Salto city, detecting the first positive sample when 105 persons were positive for SARS-CoV-2. Rotavirus was detected only in 10% (2/24) of the wastewater samples analyzed in months when partial lockdown measures were taken, however, this virus was detected in nearly all wastewater samples analyzed when social distancing measures and partial lockdown were relaxed. Wastewater results confirmed the advantages of using the detection and quantification of viruses in this matrix in order to evaluate the presence of these viruses in the population, highlighting the usefulness of this approach to define and apply social distancing. This study suggests that waters from swimming pools are not a source of infection for SARS-CoV-2, although more studies are needed including infectivity assays in order to confirm this statement.

Abstract
CUPID-0, an array of Zn^{82}Se cryogenic calorimeters, was the first medium-scale demonstrator of the scintillating bolometers' technology. The first project phase (March 2017-December 2018) allowed the most stringent limit on the neutrinoless double beta decay half-life of the isotope of interest, ^{82}Se, to be set. After a six month long detector upgrade, CUPID-0 began its second and last phase (June 2019-February 2020). In this Letter, we describe the search for neutrinoless double beta decay of ^{82}Se with a total exposure (phase I+II) of 8.82 kg yr^{-1} of isotope. We set a limit on the half-life of ^{82}Se to the ground state of ^{82}Kr of T_{1/2}^{0ν}(^{82}Se)>4.6×10^{24} yr (90% credible interval), corresponding to an effective Majorana neutrino mass m_{ββ}<(263-545) meV. We also set the most stringent lower limits on the neutrinoless decays of ^{82}Se to the 0_{1}^{+}, 2_{1}^{+}, and 2_{2}^{+} excited states of ^{82}Kr, finding 1.8×10^{23} yr, 3.0×10^{23} yr, and 3.2×10^{23} yr (90% credible interval) respectively.

Abstract
We report on a search for compact binary coalescences where at least one binary component has a mass between 0.2 M_{⊙} and 1.0 M_{⊙} in Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo data collected between 1 April 2019 1500 UTC and 1 October 2019 1500 UTC. We extend our previous analyses in two main ways: we include data from the Virgo detector and we allow for more unequal mass systems, with mass ratio q≥0.1. We do not report any gravitational-wave candidates. The most significant trigger has a false alarm rate of 0.14 yr^{-1}. This implies an upper limit on the merger rate of subsolar binaries in the range [220-24200] Gpc^{-3} yr^{-1}, depending on the chirp mass of the binary. We use this upper limit to derive astrophysical constraints on two phenomenological models that could produce subsolar-mass compact objects. One is an isotropic distribution of equal-mass primordial black holes. Using this model, we find that the fraction of dark matter in primordial black holes in the mass range 0.2 M_{⊙}<m_{PBH}<1.0 M_{⊙} is f_{PBH}≡Ω_{PBH}/Ω_{DM}≲6%. This improves existing constraints on primordial black hole abundance by a factor of ∼3. The other is a dissipative dark matter model, in which fermionic dark matter can collapse and form black holes. The upper limit on the fraction of dark matter black holes depends on the minimum mass of the black holes that can be formed: the most constraining result is obtained at M_{min}=1 M_{⊙}, where f_{DBH}≡Ω_{DBH}/Ω_{DM}≲0.003%. These are the first constraints placed on dissipative dark models by subsolar-mass analyses.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WWW production and a measurement of its cross section using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events. Events from WWW production are observed with a significance of 8.0 standard deviations, where the expectation is 5.4 standard deviations. The inclusive WWW production cross section is measured to be 820±100 (stat)±80 (syst) fb, approximately 2.6 standard deviations from the predicted cross section of 511±18 fb calculated at next-to-leading-order QCD and leading-order electroweak accuracy.

Abstract
The standard model of particle physics1-4 describes the known fundamental particles and forces that make up our Universe, with the exception of gravity. One of the central features of the standard model is a field that permeates all of space and interacts with fundamental particles5-9. The quantum excitation of this field, known as the Higgs field, manifests itself as the Higgs boson, the only fundamental particle with no spin. In 2012, a particle with properties consistent with the Higgs boson of the standard model was observed by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN10,11. Since then, more than 30 times as many Higgs bosons have been recorded by the ATLAS experiment, enabling much more precise measurements and new tests of the theory. Here, on the basis of this larger dataset, we combine an unprecedented number of production and decay processes of the Higgs boson to scrutinize its interactions with elementary particles. Interactions with gluons, photons, and W and Z bosons-the carriers of the strong, electromagnetic and weak forces-are studied in detail. Interactions with three third-generation matter particles (bottom (b) and top (t) quarks, and tau leptons (τ)) are well measured and indications of interactions with a second-generation particle (muons, μ) are emerging. These tests reveal that the Higgs boson discovered ten years ago is remarkably consistent with the predictions of the theory and provide stringent constraints on many models of new phenomena beyond the standard model.

P-211 Significant differences in efficiency between two commonly used ionophore solutions for assisted oocyte activation (AOA): a prospective comparison of ionomycin and A23187. Hum Reprod 2022. Abstract
Abstract
Study question
Are there differences in oocyte activation rate and developmental morphokinetic after assisted oocyte activation (AOA) with either ionomycin or A23187?
Summary answer
Ionomycin produces greater oocyte activation rate than A23187 (43.1% vs 15.9%), while the morphokinetic pattern of parthenotes’ development is similar between both Ca2+ ionophores.
What is known already
Fertilization failure (FF) after ICSI is often due to a male factor, such as the alteration of sperm-borne oocyte activating factors or globozoospermia. AOA can restore fertilization rate by stimulating transient spikes of Ca2+ in the cytoplasm of the oocyte, but its efficiency and effect on embryo development are not fully characterized. Here, the efficiency of two AOA preparation and protocols commonly used in clinical practice is compared using parthenogenetically activated human oocytes. The objective is to identify the most appropriate protocol for AOA and to compare the morphokinetic pattern of the generated parthenotes up to expanded blastocyst (tB).
Study design, size, duration
Prospective study involving 120 human oocytes from 66 women from March 2019 to November 2021. Oocytes were activated with two AOA protocols after mock ICSI: i) A23187 (ready-to-use solution, GM508 CultActive (Gynemed) n = 69), and ii) Ionomycin (homemade solution, 10 µmol/L, n = 51). Oocyte activation and development were analyzed in both groups; further, the morphokinetic patterns were compared; videos of embryos obtained with donor oocytes and sperm (n = 39) were used as comparator of normal developmental kinetics.
Participants/materials, setting, methods
Oocytes were injected with latex microspheres to simulate ICSI, followed by AOA. A23187 was used according to manufacturer specification. For ionomycin, three incubations of seven minutes each were performed. Resulting parthenotes (1PN) were incubated in a time-lapse system for 160h. Activation and developmental rates, tPNf (pronucleus fading), t2, t3, t4, t5, t8 (from 1st division to 8-cell), tsB (blastulation onset) and tB (blastocyst expansion) were compared using Student’s T-test and ANOVA. Statistical significance: p-value <0.05.
Main results and the role of chance
Ionomycin resulted in a significantly higher oocyte activation rate (22/51, 43.1%) than A23187 (11/69, 15.9%), p = 0.0009. In the ionomycin group, 81.8% (18/22) of parthenotes reached the 2-cell stage, 45.5% (10/22) reached the 5-cell stage, and 18.2% (4/22) reached the pseudo-blastocyst stage, as expected for these pseudo-embryos lacking the contribution of the sperm. In the A23187 group, 54.5% (6/11) reached the 2-cell stage, 27.3% (3/11) the 5-cell stage, and none formed pseudo-blastocysts. While the number of parthenotes progressing through development is much lower for A23187, the expected poor development of human parthenotes past activation and corresponding low numbers did not allow to reach statistical significance (p > 0.05). tPNf was significantly different among the 3 groups compared: 47.4±37.5h (n = 11, A23187), 27.7±23.8h (n = 21, ionomycin) and 23.3±4.6h (n = 39, control), p = 0.0019; with ionomycin presenting an average tPNf similar to the one obtained by ICSI. Among activated oocytes, the morphokinetic pattern in the ionomycin and A23187 groups was very similar to the one obtained in the control group (p > 0.05 at all timings). As an example, the t5 in the 3 groups was 58.5±12.6h (n = 3, A23187), 45.6±21.8h (n = 10, ionomycin), and 49.5±12.4h (n = 34, control), p = 0.29.
Limitations, reasons for caution
The low number of parthenotes progressing past 2-cells limit the possibility to extract solid conclusions regarding the morphokinetic patterns after AOA. The efficiency of activation using the two tested protocol is however confirmed.
Wider implications of the findings
The use of homemade ionomycin solutions is an effective option for the treatment of fertilization failures where assisted oocyte activation is indicated. Caution should be exerted when using GM508 Cultactive to investigate fertilization failures of oocyte origin.

Abstract
Introduction People with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) frequently need support due to the elevated prevalence of psychiatric and medical comorbidities. The Covid-19 outbreak has severely affected the routinary functioning of healthcare services, thus causing severe consequences for autistic people and their caregivers, an already fragile population prone to mental health diseases. Objectives 1. To compare the levels of psychological well-being, insomnia, and family distress perceived by caregivers of autistic people to those perceived by caregivers of people with other types of disability. 2. To evaluate predictors of individual and family distress reported by caregivers of autistic individuals. Methods We collected data through a cross-sectional web-based observational study from April 19 to May 3, 2020. Socio-demographic information were collected, and psychopathological variables were assessed using the General Health Questionnaire-12, the Insomnia Severity Index, the Brief Resilient Coping Scale, and the Family Distress Index. Results No significant differences emerged between the two groups of caregivers in terms of well-being, sleep quality, family distress, and level of resilience. The risk of individual distress during the pandemic was higher in people caring for younger autistic people. Lower levels of resilience predicted higher levels of individual distress among caregivers of autistic people. Conclusions Our study confirmed that caregivers’ mental health is worthy of attention and that people with disabilities may benefit for well-organized healthcare support networks (e.g. in-home services). The non-significant differences found between caregivers of ASD and non-ASD individuals may be related to the severe distress that Covid pandemic caused on the entire population. Abstract
Introduction Social cognition refers to a complex set of mental abilities that support the construction of adequate social competence and adaptation. Impairments in social cognition can be found in several psychiatric disorders, particularly in psychoses. Polygenic Risk Scores (PRSs) represent single metrics of molecular genetic risk and are a predictor of the genetic susceptibility to diseases, although they explain only a small part of the risk. Objectives To explore the association between PRS for psychiatric disorders and social cognition. Methods We conducted a systematic search in PubMed and Scopus according to the PRISMA guidelines up to August 2021. We included papers evaluating PRS and social cognition with psychometric scales. Articles concerning single-nucleotide polymorphisms and biological measures of social cognition (e.g., neuroimaging, peripheral biomarkers) were excluded. Results We initially retrieved 150 articles. After removing duplicates, we screened 133 titles and abstracts and preliminary selected 19 papers. Participants recruited in the papers of interest were either people with schizophrenia, ASD or ADHD, their family members or healthy subjects. Articles evaluated the association between different psychometrical measures of social cognition and PRS for schizophrenia, Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. Conclusions Literature regarding the association between PRS for psychiatric disorders and social cognition is heterogeneous in terms of populations, genetic risk evaluation, and outcome tools. Given the critical role played by social cognition in the onset and progression of mental disorders and its association with real-world functioning, future research should try to disentangle the complex genetic basis of this domain. The stakeholder's perception of socio-economic impacts generated by COVID-19 pandemic within the Italian aquaculture systems. AQUACULTURE (AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS) 2022; 553:738127. Abstract
From the beginning of March 2020 and for the following two and half months, many European countries comprising Italy have been forced into an unprecedented lockdown, allowing only the opening of essential economic activities needed to address the problems created by the pandemic (e.g. sanitary, food provision). Like many sectors of the Italian economy, aquaculture has also slowed down due to the ongoing emergency and the consequent closure of business. In our study we provided a 'snapshot' of the socio-economic effects of the lockdown on the aquaculture sector in Italy, immediately following the adoption of the COVID-19 restrictions as they were perceived by the workers. Although it was surveyed for a short-time period, differences in perception have been detected both in relation to the type of aquaculture as well as to the geographic locations where farms were placed, partially reflecting the economic gaps already existing within the northern and the southern part of the country before the lockdown.

Nuclear‐medicine probes: where we are and where we are going. Med Phys 2022; 49:4372-4390. Abstract
Nuclear medicine probes turned into the key for the identification and precise location of sentinel lymph nodes and other occult lesions (i.e., tumors) by using the systemic administration of radiotracers. Intraoperative nuclear probes are key in the surgical management of some malignancies as well as in the determination of positive surgical margins, thus reducing the extent and potential surgery morbidity. Depending on their application, nuclear probes are classified into two main categories, namely, counting and imaging. Although counting probes present a simple design, are handheld (to be moved rapidly), and provide only acoustic signals when detecting radiation, imaging probes, also known as cameras, are more hardware‐complex and also able to provide images but at the cost of an increased intervention time as displacing the camera has to be done slowly. This review article begins with an introductory section to highlight the relevance of nuclear‐based probes and their components as well as the main differences between ionization‐ (semiconductor) and scintillation‐based probes. Then, the most significant performance parameters of the probe are reviewed (i.e., sensitivity, contrast, count rate capabilities, shielding, energy, and spatial resolution), as well as the different types of probes based on the target radiation nature, namely: gamma (γ), beta (β) (positron and electron), and Cherenkov. Various available intraoperative nuclear probes are finally compared in terms of performance to discuss the state‐of‐the‐art of nuclear medicine probes. The manuscript concludes by discussing the ideal probe design and the aspects to be considered when selecting nuclear‐medicine probes.

Abstract
A search for lepton-flavor-violating Z→eτ and Z→μτ decays with pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. This analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of Run 2 pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and is combined with the results of a similar ATLAS search in the final state in which the τ lepton decays hadronically, using the same data set as well as Run 1 data. The addition of leptonically decaying τ leptons significantly improves the sensitivity reach for Z→ℓτ decays. The Z→ℓτ branching fractions are constrained in this analysis to B(Z→eτ)<7.0×10^{-6} and B(Z→μτ)<7.2×10^{-6} at 95% confidence level. The combination with the previously published analyses sets the strongest constraints to date: B(Z→eτ)<5.0×10^{-6} and B(Z→μτ)<6.5×10^{-6} at 95% confidence level.

Abstract
Down syndrome (DS) is associated with certain structural and functional disorders in the whole visual system. The purpose was to compare retinal and choroidal thickness using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) in DS subjects with controls. This cross-sectional study included 100 eyes of 52 DS subjects and 78 eyes of 39 matching age and axial length controls. Our results showed that inner or outer retinal and ganglionar thickness showed no significant differences between DS and control group (p > 0.05). However, retinal foveal thickness (rFT), ganglion foveal thickness (gFT) were significantly higher in DS group than in controls, whereas choroidal foveal thickness (cFT) and some choroidal quadrants of inner and outer rings were significantly lower (p < 0.05). This the first pilot study to provide information about macular and choroidal thicknesses in SD using SS-OCT compared to controls. Further analyses with larger numbers of subjects are needed to confirm our results.

Abnormal left ventricular geometry in female collegiate swimmers. Eur Heart J 2021. Abstract
Abstract
Background
There is a paucity of data describing left ventricular geometry changes in female athletes. While some studies suggest that female athletes participating in dynamic sports exhibit higher prevalence of eccentric left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) when compared to men, a recent study suggested more concentric geometry changes in female basketball athletes. We were unable to identify studies describing the left ventricular geometry of female collegiate swimmers.
Objectives
To describe LV geometry changes in a cohort of female collegiate swimmers.
Methods
We analyzed a cohort of female collegiate swimmers who had a pre-participation cardiac evaluation by 12-lead ECG and 2-dimensional echocardiography. Left ventricular (LV) geometry was assessed based on relative wall thickness (RWT) (defined as: 2 x posterior wall thickness (PWT) divided by LV end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD)) and LV mass (LVM) (Devereux's formula: LVM = [0.8 x 1.04 [(LVEDD + interventricular septum + posterior wall thickness)3 − (LVEDD)3]] + 0.6g) and was indexed to body surface area (BSA).LVH was defined as LV mass index >95 g and was defined as concentric when associated with a relative wall thickness (RWT) >0.42 and as eccentric when RWT was ≤0.42. Concentric remodeling was defined as normal LVM index and increased RWT.
Results
A total of 83 female collegiate swimmers were included. Their age was 18.5±0.5 years (mean ± standard deviation, SD), 74 (89.2%) were White, BSA was 1.78±0.11 m2, height 173±6.3 cm, weight 66.2±7.2 K. Their interventricular septum diameter was 0.89±0.14 cm, PWT 0.92±0.15 cm, LVEDD 4.9±0.5 cm and LV end-systolic diameter (LVESD) 3.2±0.4 cm. Left atrium diameter ranged from 2.6 to 4.3 cm (mean 3.4 cm ± 0.4 cm). Aortic root diameter ranged from 1.9 to 3.5 cm (mean 2.7±0.3 cm) (Figure 1). LVH was present in 27 swimmers (32.5%). Eccentric LVH was present in 17 athletes (20.5%), concentric hypertrophy in 10 athletes (12%), and concentric remodeling in 12 (14.5%) (Figure 2). No athletes with LVH or concentric remodeling had borderline or abnormal ECG findings based on international criteria. Only two women with normal LV geometry had abnormal ECG findings: prolonged QT interval and abnormal T wave inversion. There was a linear correlation between BSA with LVEDD, LVESD and LV mass (r=0.40, 0.35, and 0.48 with P<0.001,0.002 and <0.001, respectively). However, there was no statistically significant difference between LV geometry groups based on BSA or blood pressure.
Conclusion
Our data document a high incidence of eccentric hypertrophy among female collegiate swimmers. Concentric remodeling and hypertrophy were also relatively high. Differentiating physiologic from pathologic cardiac remodeling in these athletes is critical to prevent potential complications such as sudden cardiac death, arrhythmias, and other adverse outcomes.
