Abstract
Pollen tubes of higher plants grow very rapidly until they reach the ovules to fertilize the female gametes. This growth process is energy demanding, however, the nutrition strategies of pollen are largely unexplored. Here, we studied the function of sucrose transporters and invertases during pollen germination and pollen tube growth. RT-PCR analyses, reporter lines and knockout mutants were used to study gene expression and protein function in pollen. The genome of Arabidopsis thaliana contains eight genes that encode functional sucrose/H+ symporters. Apart from AtSUC2, which is companion cell specific, all other AtSUC genes are expressed in pollen tubes. AtSUC1 is present in developing pollen and seems to be the most important sucrose transporter during the fertilization process. Pollen of an Atsuc1 knockout plant contain less sucrose and have defects in pollen germination and pollen tube growth. The loss of other sucrose carriers affects neither pollen germination nor pollen tube growth. A multiple knockout line Atsuc1Atsuc3Atsuc8Atsuc9 shows a phenotype that is comparable to the Atsuc1 mutant line. Loss of AtSUC1 can`t be complemented by AtSUC9, suggesting a special function of AtSUC1. Besides sucrose carriers, pollen tubes also synthesize monosaccharide carriers of the AtSTP family as well as invertases. We could show that AtcwINV2 and AtcwINV4 are expressed in pollen, AtcwINV1 in the transmitting tissue and AtcwINV5 in the funiculi of the ovary. The vacuolar invertase AtVI2 is also expressed in pollen, and a knockout of AtVI2 leads to a severe reduction in pollen germination. Our data indicate that AtSUC1 mediated sucrose accumulation during late stages of pollen development and cleavage of vacuolar sucrose into monosaccharides is important for the process of pollen germination.

Abstract
PURPOSE The goal of this guideline/procedure standard is to assist nuclear medicine physicians, other nuclear medicine professionals, oncologists or other medical specialists for recommended use of [18F]FDG PET/CT in oncological patients undergoing immunotherapy, with special focus on response assessment in solid tumors. METHODS In a cooperative effort between the EANM, the SNMMI and the ANZSNM, clinical indications, recommended imaging procedures and reporting standards have been agreed upon and summarized in this joint guideline/procedure standard. CONCLUSIONS The field of immuno-oncology is rapidly evolving, and this guideline/procedure standard should not be seen as definitive, but rather as a guidance document standardizing the use and interpretation of [18F]FDG PET/CT during immunotherapy. Local variations to this guideline should be taken into consideration. PREAMBLE The European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) is a professional non-profit medical association founded in 1985 to facilitate worldwide communication among individuals pursuing clinical and academic excellence in nuclear medicine. The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) is an international scientific and professional organization founded in 1954 to promote science, technology and practical application of nuclear medicine. The Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM), founded in 1969, represents the major professional society fostering the technical and professional development of nuclear medicine practice across Australia and New Zealand. It promotes excellence in the nuclear medicine profession through education, research and a commitment to the highest professional standards. EANM, SNMMI and ANZSNM members are physicians, technologists, physicists and scientists specialized in the research and clinical practice of nuclear medicine. All three societies will periodically put forth new standards/guidelines for nuclear medicine practice to help advance the science of nuclear medicine and improve service to patients. Existing standards/guidelines will be reviewed for revision or renewal, as appropriate, on their fifth anniversary or sooner, if indicated. Each standard/guideline, representing a policy statement by the EANM/SNMMI/ANZSNM, has undergone a thorough consensus process, entailing extensive review. These societies recognize that the safe and effective use of diagnostic nuclear medicine imaging requires particular training and skills, as described in each document. These standards/guidelines are educational tools designed to assist practitioners in providing appropriate and effective nuclear medicine care for patients. These guidelines are consensus documents based on current knowledge. They are not intended to be inflexible rules or requirements of practice, nor should they be used to establish a legal standard of care. For these reasons and those set forth below, the EANM, SNMMI and ANZSNM caution against the use of these standards/guidelines in litigation in which the clinical decisions of a practitioner are called into question. The ultimate judgment regarding the propriety of any specific procedure or course of action must be made by medical professionals considering the unique circumstances of each case. Thus, there is no implication that an action differing from what is laid out in the guidelines/procedure standards, standing alone, is below standard of care. To the contrary, a conscientious practitioner may responsibly adopt a course of action different from that set forth in the standards/guidelines when, in the reasonable judgment of the practitioner, such course of action is indicated by the condition of the patient, limitations of available resources or advances in knowledge or technology subsequent to publication of the guidelines/procedure standards. The practice of medicine involves not only the science, but also the art of dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, alleviation and treatment of disease. The variety and complexity of human conditions make it impossible for general guidelines to consistently allow for an accurate diagnosis to be reached or a particular treatment response to be predicted. Therefore, it should be recognized that adherence to these standards/ guidelines will not ensure a successful outcome. All that should be expected is that practitioners follow a reasonable course of action, based on their level of training, current knowledge, clinical practice guidelines, available resources and the needs/context of the patient being treated. The sole purpose of these guidelines is to assist practitioners in achieving this objective. The present guideline/procedure standard was developed collaboratively by the EANM, the SNMMI and the ANZSNM, with the support of international experts in the field. They summarize also the views of the Oncology and Theranostics and the Inflammation and Infection Committees of the EANM, as well as the procedure standards committee of the SNMMI, and reflect recommendations for which the EANM and SNMMI cannot be held responsible. The recommendations should be taken into the context of good practice of nuclear medicine and do not substitute for national and international legal or regulatory provisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Stress-related mechanisms are implicated in the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder and may contribute to heterogeneity in illness course. Yet, there is a lack of study investigating the neural mechanisms underlying the stress response in this condition. This study investigated changes in amygdala activation and functional connectivity in response to acute psychosocial stress in young adults with bipolar disorder and explored relations with clinical phenotype and prospective mood symptoms. METHODS 42 young adults [19 with bipolar disorder, agemean ± SD =21.4 ± 2.2 years] completed a modified version of the Montreal Imaging Stress Task. Amygdala activation and functional connectivity with prefrontal cortex (PFC) regions of interest was calculated for control and stress conditions. Main effects of group, condition, and group by condition interaction on amygdala activation and connectivity were modeled. A subset of bipolar participants completed 1-year follow-up assessments. Relations between neural responses to stress with concurrent substance use and prospective mood symptoms were explored. RESULTS There were no between-group differences in amygdala activation or functional connectivity during the control condition. Increased right amygdala-right rostral PFC (rPFC) functional connectivity to stress was observed in bipolar disorder, compared to typically developing controls. In bipolar disorder, greater increase in right amygdala-right rPFC functional connectivity to stress was associated with less frequent cannabis use, and prospectively with shorter duration and lower severity of depression symptoms over follow-up. CONCLUSION Results from this preliminary study suggest differences in frontolimbic functional connectivity responses to stress in young adults with bipolar disorder and associations with cannabis use and prospective mood symptoms.

Abstract
Materials in nature have fascinating properties that serve as a continuous source of inspiration for materials scientists. Accordingly, bio-mimetic and bio-inspired approaches have yielded remarkable structural and functional materials for a plethora of applications. Despite these advances, many properties of natural materials remain challenging or yet impossible to incorporate into synthetic materials. Natural materials are produced by living cells, which sense and process environmental cues and conditions by means of signaling and genetic programs, thereby controlling the biosynthesis, remodeling, functionalization, or degradation of the natural material. In this context, synthetic biology offers unique opportunities in materials sciences by providing direct access to the rational engineering of how a cell senses and processes environmental information and translates them into the properties and functions of materials. Here, we identify and review two main directions by which synthetic biology can be harnessed to provide new impulses for the biologization of the materials sciences: first, the engineering of cells to produce precursors for the subsequent synthesis of materials. This includes materials that are otherwise produced from petrochemical resources, but also materials where the bio-produced substances contribute unique properties and functions not existing in traditional materials. Second, engineered living materials that are formed or assembled by cells or in which cells contribute specific functions while remaining an integral part of the living composite material. We finally provide a perspective of future scientific directions of this promising area of research and discuss science policy that would be required to support research and development in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The safety and efficacy of the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device has been shown in multiple good clinical practice trials, whereas aneurysm locations in these trials were restricted to bifurcation aneurysms located at the circle of Willis (MCA bifurcation, ICA bifurcation, anterior communicating artery, basilar artery tip). Our aim was to evaluate angiographic and clinical results with the WEB 17 in aneurysm locations that were excluded from the good clinical practice trials, assuming that the angiographic and clinical results are similar to those of the good clinical practice trials for aneurysms in traditional locations. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed retrospective analysis of immediate and follow-up results of aneurysms in locations outside the good clinical practice trials in which the WEB 17 was used on an intention-to-treat approach. RESULTS Between June 2017 and May 2020, forty-seven aneurysms in 44 patients met the inclusion criteria. Aneurysm locations were the ICA posterior communicating artery in 19 (40.3%), the ICA paraophthalmic or choroidal locations in 4 (8.6%), anterior cerebral artery A2 segment in 13 (27.7%), MCA M1 segment in 2 (4.3%), posterior cerebral artery P2 segment in 2 (4.3%), PICA in 3 (6.4%), and the superior cerebellar artery in 4 (8.4%) cases. The procedure-related morbidity and mortality rates in the entire series were 0.0%. The early and late (<12 and >12 months) complete occlusion rates were 63.9% (23/36) and 77.8% (14/18), respectively. CONCLUSIONS The WEB 17 is safe and effective in aneurysm locations different from the traditional bifurcation aneurysms included in the good clinical practice trials. Further studies will help to define the entire spectrum of aneurysm morphologies and locations suitable for the WEB 17.

Abstract
PURPOSE Since the incidental discovery and systematic introduction of mechanical endovascular stroke treatment in 2015 there are few reports about the real-life situation in daily clinical practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanical thrombectomy data documented in the quality assurance database of the German Society for Interventional Radiology and Minimally Invasive Therapy (DeGIR) and the German Society of Neuroradiology (DGNR) in 2019. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and procedural data of all mechanical thrombectomies that were entered into the voluntary nationwide database in 2019. The information of each procedure was provided on a standardized web-based data sheet. Data were exported and analyzed by a group of experts on behalf of the DGNR. RESULTS A total of 13,840 data sets from 158 participating centers could be analyzed. Mean age of the patients was 74 ± 13 years; 53.9% were female. Vessel occlusion was located in the anterior circulation in 87.4%, in the posterior circulation in 10.7%. On hospital admission, the median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was 14 (lower/upper quartile 10/19); at hospital discharge, median NIHSS had dropped to 9 (lower/upper quartile 2/12; p < 0.001). Recanalization of the occluded vessel segment was successful (TICI 2b + 3) in 88.4%. The reported complication rate was 7.3%, with subarachnoid hemorrhage as the most frequent complication (3.4%), followed by parenchymal hemorrhage (1.7%) and embolization in new territories (1.2%). Overall, the median time interval from symptom onset to hospital admission was 94 min (quartiles 59/180 min), the median time from hospital admission to groin puncture was 74 min (lower/upper quartile 47/103 min), and the median duration of the procedure 43 min (lower/upper quartile 25.2/73.2 min). A comparison between primary and secondary referral revealed a significant faster symptom-to-intervention time for primary referrals, whereas in-house workflows showed no significant difference. CONCLUSION The analysis represents the largest documented cohort of acute stroke patients treated by thrombectomy. The documentation allows for a detailed evaluation of procedural, clinical, logistic and radiation exposure data and might be used for monitoring the quality of the treatment on a nationwide scale.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In order to treat the complete spectrum of neurovascular diseases at a high level of quality, which goes beyond the purely acute treatment of stroke, the German Stroke Society (DSG) together with the German Societies for Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology developed a certification procedure for neurovascular networks (NVN). Structurally, a NVN consists of a coordinating center with at least three neurovascular network partners with a certified stroke unit. From 2018 to 2020 a total of 15 NVN have so far been audited and certified according to this new standard. OBJECTIVE How efficient are the NVN? Are high standards maintained? MATERIAL AND METHODS The reports of the audits were analyzed. The data were taken from the period 2017-2019. RESULTS The 15 NVN treated a total of 86,510 stroke patients in the years examined and were networked with a total of 107 partner clinics, which were situated an average of 25 km from the coordinating center and transferred a total of 2726 patients. The coordinating centers performed 2463 thrombectomies and treated 2383 patients with nontraumatic intracerebral bleeding. In 712 patients with acute aneurysmatic subarachnoid hemorrhages endovascular treatment was carried out and clipping in 401. The audit was successful in the majority of the NVN. CONCLUSION The certification process of NVN has been successfully established and the audits proved to be a useful instrument for quality control and improvement. The 15 NVN are highly efficient and treat more than one quarter of stroke patients in German stroke units.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The Woven EndoBridge device proved its effectiveness in the treatment of ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms as a stand-alone device. Before 2016, Woven EndoBridge deployment required at least a 0.021-inch microcatheter. In 2016, a smaller device, the Woven EndoBridge 17 with finer size increments that used a 0.017-inch microcatheter, was introduced. We retrospectively analyzed our initial and follow-up results with the Woven EndoBridge 17 in ruptured and unruptured aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred twenty-seven intracranial aneurysms in 117 patients were scheduled for treatment with the Woven EndoBridge 17 between June 2017 and February 2019. Twenty-nine aneurysms were ruptured. RESULTS Treatment was performed as intended in 124 of 127 cases (97.6%). Additional devices such as stents or coils were used in 12 cases (9.7%). Five thromboembolic complications and 1 hemorrhagic complication were encountered, resulting in clinical deterioration in 2 patients. The overall morbidity and mortality in the entire series have been 1.7% and 0.0% to date, respectively. The follow-up results at 3 and 12 months revealed complete occlusion in 76.1% (70/92) and 78.0% (32/41). CONCLUSIONS The Woven EndoBridge 17 device is safe in the treatment of small broad-based aneurysms without the general need for additional devices. The low complication rate and the promising follow-up results underline the value of this technique in a growing range of endovascular treatment options for intracranial aneurysms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a manually expandable stent retriever (Tigertriever, Rapid Medical, Yoqneam, Israel) in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke caused by intracranial large vessel occlusions (LVO). METHODS We performed a single center retrospective analysis of all patients treated by mechanical thrombectomy due to LVO using the Tigertriever. The angiographic and clinical success was evaluated by the modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction score (mTICI) and the modified Rankin score (mRS). RESULTS A total of 68 acute intracranial arterial occlusions in 61 patients (42 female, median age 77 years, range 43-92 years) were treated by mechanical thrombectomy using the Tigertriever. The overall successful reperfusion rate (mTICI 2b-3) was 85.3% (58/68 occlusions) with a first pass effect (mTICI 3) of 23.5% (16/68 occlusions). In 57 of the 68 occlusions the Tigertriever was used on an intention to treat approach with a success rate of 86.0% and in the 11 remaining occlusions where the Tigertriever was used as a bail-out device the success rate was 81.9%. In seven patients a mild subarachnoid hemorrhage occurred (11.5%) and one symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage was observed (1.6%). At discharge 39.3% of the patients (24/61) had a favorable outcome (mRS 0-2). CONCLUSION The Tigertriever offers a safe and effective treatment option in ischemic stroke due to LVOs with reperfusion rates and a safety profile similar to alternative devices. The Tigertriever is a promising bail-out tool in complex cases. Its role as a first line device has to be evaluated in further prospective studies.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Outcome reporting in research studies of breast reconstruction is inconsistent and lacks standardisation. The results of individual studies therefore cannot be meaningfully compared or combined limiting their value. A core outcome set (COS) has been developed to address these issues and identified 11 key outcomes to be measured and reported in all future research and audit studies in reconstructive breast surgery (RBS). A COS represents what key outcomes should be measured. The next step is to determine how and when this should be done. The aim of this study is to develop a core measurement set (CMS) for use in research and audit studies in implant-based breast reconstruction. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The CMS will be developed in accordance with the guidance developed by the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials initiative (COMET) and COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) group for the selection of outcome measurement instruments (OMIs) for relevant outcome domains included in the RBS COS. This will involve three phases with strategies to promote implementation as a final additional phase. The phases are (1) conceptual considerations in which the target population, procedures and settings are defined; (2) systematic reviews to identify existing clinical, patient-reported and cosmetic OMIs and, if appropriate, assess their quality using COSMIN methodology; (3) a modified Delphi process including sequential Delphi surveys involving approximately 100 healthcare professionals and a face to face consensus meeting to agree and ratify which outcome definitions and OMIs should be used and standardised time points for assessment; (4) strategies to promote dissemination and adoption of the CMS. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval has been granted by University of Bristol Faculty Research Ethics Committee FREC ID 60221. Dissemination strategies will include scientific meeting presentations and peer-reviewed journal publications. Implementation activities will include engagement with journal editors and funders to promote uptake and use of the CMS.

Abstract
PURPOSE Imaging glioma biology holds great promise to unravel the complex nature of these tumors. Besides well-established imaging techniques such O-(2-[18F]fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine (FET)-PET and dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion imaging, amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) imaging has emerged as a promising novel MR technique. In this study, we aimed to better understand the relation between these imaging biomarkers and how well they capture cellularity and vascularity in newly diagnosed gliomas. METHODS Preoperative MRI and FET-PET data of 46 patients (31 glioblastoma and 15 lower-grade glioma) were segmented into contrast-enhancing and FLAIR-hyperintense areas. Using established cutoffs, we calculated hot-spot volumes (HSV) and their spatial overlap. We further investigated APTw and CBV values in FET-HSV. In a subset of 10 glioblastoma patients, we compared cellularity and vascularization in 34 stereotactically targeted biopsies with imaging. RESULTS In glioblastomas, the largest HSV was found for APTw, followed by PET and CBV (p < 0.05). In lower-grade gliomas, APTw-HSV was clearly lower than in glioblastomas. The spatial overlap of HSV was highest between APTw and FET in both tumor entities and regions. APTw correlated significantly with cellularity, similar to FET, while the association with vascularity was more pronounced in CBV and FET. CONCLUSIONS We found a relevant spatial overlap in glioblastomas between hotspots of APTw and FET both in contrast-enhancing and FLAIR-hyperintense tumor. As suggested by earlier studies, APTw was lower in lower-grade gliomas compared with glioblastomas. APTw meaningfully contributes to biological imaging of gliomas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) accounts for 1% of cancers and is of largely unknown pathogenesis. This study intended to find clues about potential causes (etiology) of HL through observations on patients and their families. PATIENTS AND METHODS In 37 years of a medical oncology practice in Basel, Switzerland, 36 out of 2201 patients (1.6%) had HL. Etiological information has been obtained from the patients with the help of a German translation of the NCI Medical History Questionnaire for Cancer Etiology, and through the study of their medical charts. RESULTS Findings of etiological interest were observed in the medical history of 26 out of the 36 patients with HL; these findings were grouped as follows: benign tumors (25%), carcinogenic exposures (19%), immunologic disorders (19%), secondary malignancies (14%), infections (11%), congenital disorders (8%) and tonsillectomies (6%). Twenty-two out of 36 patients had one or more relatives with cancer. CONCLUSION Personal and family history of patients with HL is a readily available useful tool for etiology research. The fact that HL is frequently associated with other cancers in patients and their relatives points to causal genetic factors.

Abstract
Tinnitus is a common symptom with an incidence of 4-20%. Pulsatile tinnitus represents a minor subgroup of less than 10% of all patients suffering from tinnitus. Pulsatile tinnitus - different from permanent mostly idiopathic tinnitus is mainly caused by physical sources related to vascular pathologies resulting in a change in blood volume and pressure or an alteration of the vessel lumen. Differential diagnosis for pulsatile tinnitus include dural arteriovenous fistulas, glomus tumors of the jugular foramen and the middle ear or atherosclerotic diseases of the carotid artery in the petrous or cavernous segment. Anomalies of the dural sinuses and the jugular bulb have been described as rare sources of synchronized tinnitus. The Woven EndoBridge (WEB, Microvention, Tustin, CA) is an intraaneurysmal flow diverter for the treatment of broad-based arterial aneurysms with a high safety and effectiveness profile. The initial version of the WEB with a dual layer structure evolved to a single layer structure in two different versions (WEB SL, WEB SLS). The WEB system does not require a concomitant antiplatelet therapy compared to other intraluminal devices as extra-aneurysmal flow-diverters or intracranial stents. Here we describe a case of an aneurysmatic diverticulum of the jugular bulb in a patient with ipsilateral pulsatile tinnitus treated with a WEB device.

Abstract
Summary:
Aim, method: Recommendations for the use of FDG-PET in relapsed colorectal cancer and the decision of reimbursement should base on published studies and on their level of evidence. Therefore, the PET-studies published between 1997 and 2002 were graded by the bias-criteria, by two rating-systems and by two classification-systems for the level of evidence according to AHCPR (Agency for Health Care Policy and Research) and VHA (Veterans Health Administration). Results: The recommendation for the use of PET in relapsed colorectal cancer reached the level IIa according to the AHCPR, corresponding to level B according to the VHA. The sensitivity and specificity of FDG-PET were 94% (95% CI: 91-96%) and 78% (95% CI: 69-86%), respectively. Staging was changed correctly in 27% of patients (95% CI: 24-30%). Staging by FDG-PET was incorrect in 4% of the patients (95% CI: 2-5%) compared with the conventionel methods. The additional use of PET changed the prospectively defined management plan for 34% of patients (95% CI: 31-38%). Either potentially curative operations were initiated in case of resectable tumour or futile operations were cancelled in case of multiple metastases. Conclusion: The 3-year-survival-rate following surgery would have exceeded 70% if the selection of patients had included an additional PET-examination. The correct selection of patients is requested in the daily routine as well as in the clinical implementation of neoadjuvant therapies to prevent a selection-bias from a suboptimal restaging without PET.

Abstract
Brain tumor patients treated with radiotherapy (RT) often develop cognitive dysfunction, and recent studies suggest that the APOE ε-4 allele may influence cognitive outcome. The ε-4 allele is known to promote beta (β) amyloid deposition in the cortex, and preliminary evidence suggests that RT may be associated with this process. However, it is unknown whether β-amyloid accumulation contributes to treatment neurotoxicity. In this pilot study, we assessed neuropsychological functions and β-amyloid retention using 18F-florbetaben (FBB) PET in a subset of brain tumor patients who participated in our study of APOE polymorphisms and cognitive functions. Twenty glioma patients treated with conformal RT ± chemotherapy participated in the study: 6 were APOE ε-4 carriers and 14 were non-ε-4 carriers. Patients completed a neuropsychological re-evaluation (mean time interval = 5 years, SD = 0.83) and brain MRI and FBB PET scans. Wilcoxon signed-rank test comparisons between prior and current neuropsychological assessments showed a significant decline in attention (Brief Test of Attention, p = 0.018), and a near significant decline in verbal learning (Hopkins Verbal learning Test-Learning, p = 0.07). Comparisons by APOE status showed significant differences over time in attention/working memory (WAIS-III digits forward, p = 0.028 and digits backward, p = 0.032), with a decline among APOE ε-4 carriers. There were no significant differences in any of the FBB PET analyses between APOE ε-4 carriers and non-ε-4 carriers. The findings suggest that glioma patients may experience worsening in attention and executive functions several years after treatment, and that the APOE ε-4 allele may modulate cognitive decline, but independent of increased β-amyloid deposition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The safety and efficacy of the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device for the treatment of cerebral aneurysms has been investigated in several studies. Our objective was to report the experience of 2 neurovascular centers with the WEB device in the treatment of broad-based intracranial aneurysms, including the technical feasibility and safety as well as short- and midterm angiographic and clinical follow-up-results. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed a retrospective analysis of all ruptured and unruptured aneurysms treated with a WEB device (WEB Single-Layer and Single-Layer Sphere) between August 2014 and February 2017. Primary outcome measures included the feasibility of implantation and the angiographic outcome. Secondary outcome measures included the clinical outcome at discharge and procedural complications. RESULTS One hundred two aneurysms in 101 patients, including 37 (36.3%) ruptured aneurysms, were treated with the WEB device. Implantation was successful in 98 (96.1%) aneurysms. Additional devices (stents/coils) were necessary in 15.3% (15/98) of aneurysms. Procedural complications occurred in 4.9% (5/102). Of these, 4 were thromboembolic events and 1 was an intraprocedural rupture. Angiographic follow-up at 3 and 12 months was available for 79.6% (78/98) and 50.0% (49/98) of all aneurysms to date, respectively, showing a sufficient aneurysm occlusion in 80.7% (63/78) at 3 months and 77.6% (38/49) at 12 months. Delayed aneurysm ruptures have not been observed during the follow-up period to date. CONCLUSIONS The WEB device offers a safe and effective treatment option for broad-based intracranial aneurysms without the need for dual antiplatelet therapy.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Thumb carpometacarpal joint replacement is associated with high rates of loosening and failure. We present our results for an uncemented ceramic-ceramic total joint prosthesis with a reverse ball-and-socket design and bioactive coating. Between 2008 and 2012, 29 prostheses were inserted into 28 patients (mean age 63 years) with advanced osteoarthritis. After a mean period of 33 months (range 9-62), 26 patients (27 implants) were available for follow-up. Six months postoperatively, 50% of the patients had radiological evidence of early loosening. Fifteen implants had been removed in 14 patients for aseptic loosening (13) or trapezium fracture (2). The 12 patients whose prosthesis was still in place had a mean visual analogue scale pain score of 1.9 (range 0-6) and a mean Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand score of 23 (range 0-73.3). Eleven patients were satisfied with the procedure. The rate of early aseptic failure was unacceptably high. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE IV.

Abstract
In vitro culture of primary cancer tissue is still very limited and the generation of patient derived xenograft determine the loss of human-cancer associated stroma. In this context, the use of 3D in vitro systems based on human tissue may be an innovative system to be exploited for keeping the tumor microenvironment (TME) complexity of the tissue in vitro.
Freshly excised colorectal (CRC) and breast cancer (BrCa) specimens were fragmented and cultured in 3D “sandwich-like format” between porous collagen scaffolds under perfusion flow (U-CUP, Cellec Biotek AG). The maintenance of tumor and immune-infiltrating cells, survival and phenotypic characterization were histologically assessed. In a second step cancer treatment were tested.
U-CUP culture allowed the preservation, viability and expansion of tumor tissue with concomitant stromal and immune cells. Expanding cancer cells were viable after 10 and 21 days (CRC and BrCa, respectively). Administration of anti-ER treatment to Lumina A ER+ BrCa was associated with decreased expansion of cancer tissue into the scaffold after 21 days. The maintenance of immune-infiltrating cells allowed testing of immune blockade therapy. Administration of anti-PDL1 antibody, alone or in combination with anti-CTLA4, to the culture medium was associated with increased expression of markers of immune-activation (i.e. IFNγ) and decreased expression of immunosuppressive cytokine IL10.
Preserving malignant, interstitial and immunocompetent cells comprised in surgically excised tumor specimens might allow a direct evaluation of the effects of various treatments on the complex TME. This engineered in vitro model could allow animal-free testing and it could be extended as a platform allowing the testing of innovative approaches for the treatment of human malignancies. Our findings shed the light on a promising system for selecting personalized treatment based on a patient’s tumor specific microenvironment.

Abstract
An appropriate antibiotherapy is crucial for the safety and recovery of patients. Depending on the clinical conditions of patients, the required dose to effectively eradicate an infection may vary. An inadequate dosing not only reduces the efficacy of the antibiotic, but also promotes the emergence of antimicrobial resistances. Therefore, a personalized therapy is of great interest for improved patients' outcome and will reduce in long-term the prevalence of multidrug-resistances. In this context, on-site monitoring of the antibiotic blood concentration is fundamental to facilitate an individual adjustment of the antibiotherapy. Herein, we present a bioinspired approach for the bedside monitoring of free accessible ß-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins (piperacillin) and cephalosporins (cefuroxime and cefazolin) in untreated plasma samples. The introduced system combines a disposable microfluidic chip with a naturally occurring penicillin-binding protein, resulting in a high-performance platform, capable of gauging very low antibiotic concentrations (less than 6 ng ml-1) from only 1 µl of serum. The system's applicability to a personalized antibiotherapy was successfully demonstrated by monitoring the pharmacokinetics of patients, treated with ß-lactam antibiotics, undergoing surgery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Flow diversion emerged as a crucial treatment option for intracranial aneurysms. We report a multicenter retrospective analysis of the safety and efficacy in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms with the Flow-Redirection Endoluminal Device (FRED) flow diverter, a dual-layer flow-modulation device. MATERIALS AND METHODS All intracranial aneurysms treated with the FRED between March 2013 and February 2016 at 4 neurovascular centers were included. Angiographic and clinical results were retrospectively analyzed, including all follow-up examinations. Aneurysms were unruptured in 44 cases, whereas 8 treatments were due to an acute SAH from the target aneurysm. RESULTS Successful implantation of the FRED was possible in 96.2% (50/52) of cases. At 3-month follow-up, complete occlusion was determined in 58.1% (25/43) and near-complete in 25.6% (11/43). At 12-month follow-up, aneurysm occlusion was complete in 75.0% (27/36) and near-complete in 22.2% (8/36). The overall acute and late thromboembolic and hemorrhagic complication rate was 17.3% (9/52), with a permanent treatment-related morbidity and mortality of 4.0% (2/50) and 2.0% (1/50), respectively, to date. CONCLUSIONS The FRED device offers an effective tool in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. The dual-layer design promotes contemporary and stable long-term occlusion rates. Sufficient device expansion should be documented by angiographic CT. Further studies might help to identify a more optimal antiplatelet regimen to avoid thromboembolic complications during the follow-up period.

Abstract
Background Endovascular treatment of wide-necked aneurysms remains challenging without the use of adjunctive devices to preserve the parent artery. Objective To present our initial experience with a temporary bridging device, the Comaneci (Rapid Medical, Israel). The compliant remodeling mesh protects the parent artery during coil occlusion without flow arrest in the distal vasculature. Permanent dual antiplatelet therapy is not required since the device is fully removed at the end of the procedure. Methods All intracranial aneurysms treated by coil occlusion with the Comaneci device between December 2014 and November 2015 were included. Angiographic and clinical results were retrospectively analysed, including follow-up examinations. All aneurysms were unruptured. Results 18 aneurysms of the internal carotid artery were included. Successful coil occlusion assisted by the Comaneci device as intended was possible in 14 cases (77.8%). Insufficient coverage of the aneurysmal neck was observed in four cases (22.2%), with modification of the treatment to stent-assisted coiling or remodeling. One clinically relevant complication occurred (5.6%). Conclusions Our initial experience shows that use of the Comaneci device is straightforward for the treatment of selected wide-necked aneurysms. Further studies with long-term follow-up data are needed to identify the significance of the presented technique in the neurointerventional armamentarium.

Abstract
Background: Tympanojugular paraganglioma (TJP) are benign, high vascularized, local destructive tumors. Despite many studies in the literature, the management of particularly complex TJP (e. g., posterior fossa and/or carotid artery invasion) remains controversial. In the current study we present our treatment strategies for complex TJP and long-term results. Patients and methods: Between 2003 and 2013, 17 patients with TJP Fisch types C and D were treated in our institution. Primary symptoms were hearing loss, followed by facial nerve palsy and lower cranial nerve impairments. 2 patients presented with recurrent tumors. Surgical treatment after endovascular tumor embolization was performed in 14 patients. 2 patients were treated by radiation therapy. Results: Gross tumor resection was achieved in 10 patients. A temporary postoperative facial nerve palsy occurred in 2 patients and permanent postoperative vocal cord palsy in 3 patients. During long term follow-up, one patient experienced regrowth of the residual tumor. No tumor progress was observed in both patients treated with radiation therapy. Outcome assessed by Karnofsky scale showed 100% functionality in 12 patients and 90% in 5 patients. Discussion: Surgical treatment of TJP after endovascular embolization is the treatment of choice in young and healthy patients. In older patients with premorbid conditions, radiation therapy is the main treatment option and is associated with high tumor control rates. Precise preoperative staging together with individualize risk-benefit assessment and interdisciplinary treatment strategy are essential for a favorable outcome.

Abstract
This paper summarises the proceedings and discussions at the third annual workshop held in Tübingen, Germany, dedicated to the advancement of the technical, scientific and clinical applications of combined PET/MRI systems in humans. Two days of basic scientific and technical instructions with "hands-on" tutorials were followed by 3 days of invited presentations from active researchers in this and associated fields augmented by round-table discussions and dialogue boards with specific themes. These included the use of PET/MRI in paediatric oncology and in adult neurology, oncology and cardiology, the development of multi-parametric analyses, and efforts to standardise PET/MRI examinations to allow pooling of data for evaluating the technology. A poll taken on the final day demonstrated that over 50 % of those present felt that while PET/MRI technology underwent an inevitable slump after its much-anticipated initial launch, it was now entering a period of slow, progressive development, with new key applications emerging. In particular, researchers are focusing on exploiting the complementary nature of the physiological (PET) and biochemical (MRI/MRS) data within the morphological framework (MRI) that these devices can provide. Much of the discussion was summed up on the final day when one speaker commented on the state of PET/MRI: "the real work has just started".

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are uncommon malignancies of largely unknown pathogenesis. Observations on patients and their families can provide clues on etiology. PATIENTS AND METHODS In a medical oncology practice cohort of 2,087 patients 5 females and 2 males with PNETs have been identified. RESULTS Observations of etiologic interest have been made in 2 patients with PNETs. One female patient belongs to a kidney cancer family with a balanced translocation t(3;11)(q13;q21). A second female patient with PNET had a de novo translocation (t3;5)(q27;q14), its braking point could contain a tumor suppressor gene. CONCLUSION Chromosome studies in patients with PNETs point to an etiologic role of balanced translocations.

Abstract
The PulseRider is a novel endovascular device specifically designed to treat bifurcation intracranial aneurysms with wide necks. In an international series, we report the results of PulseRider stent-assisted coiling of 15 patients (9 women and 6 men; mean age, 62.6 years) with 15 unruptured wide-neck (median dome size, 8 mm; median neck size, 5 mm) bifurcation aneurysms. Failure of PulseRider treatment occurred in 1 case, and 1 intraprocedural thromboembolic complication was observed. There was no mortality or neurologic permanent morbidity at discharge and at 1 month. Immediate angiographic outcome showed 12 complete occlusions and 2 neck remnants. Follow-up at 6 months was available for 3 aneurysms and demonstrated 2 complete aneurysm occlusions and 1 growing neck remnant. In this small series of selected patients, PulseRider stent-assisted coiling of wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms was feasible with low procedural complication rates. Angiographic follow-up will be required to evaluate the efficacy of the PulseRider device.

Abstract
Purpose To retrospectively evaluate the safety and efficacy of the endovascular treatment of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms assisted by a novel intra-/extra-aneurysm stent-like implant (pCONus). Methods Initial and follow-up angiographic and clinical results are presented of 25 patients with 25 unruptured and ruptured wide-necked intracranial aneurysms treated by reconstruction of the aneurysm neck using the pCONus implant followed by coil occlusion of the fundus. Results Successful intra-/extra-aneurysm deployment of the pCONus with coil occlusion of the fundus was achieved in all but one case. Procedure-related ischemic complications were observed in three cases with permanent deterioration in one. Acceptable aneurysm occlusion was achieved in all cases. Follow-up angiography revealed sufficient occlusion in 81.0% of the aneurysms. Intimal hyperplasia in the stented segment of the parent artery or device migration has not been observed to date. Conclusions The pCONus device offers a promising treatment option for complex wide-necked bifurcation intracranial aneurysms. Acute or delayed dislocations of coils into the parent artery are successfully avoided.
