Abstract
Insect odorant binding proteins (OBPs) were initially regarded as carriers of the odorants involved in chemosensation. However, it had been observed that a growing number of OBP genes exhibited broad expression patterns beyond chemosensory tissues. Here, an OBP gene (OBP31) was found to be highly expressed in the larval ventral nerve cord, adult brain and male reproductive organ of Spodoptera frugiperda. An OBP31 knockout strain (OBP31-/- ) was generated by CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis. For OBP31-/- , the larvae needed longer time to pupate, but there was no difference in the pupal weight between OBP31-/- and wild type (WT). OBP31-/- larvae showed stronger phototaxis than the WT larvae, indicating the importance of OBP31 in light perception. For mating rhythm of adults, OBP31-/- moths displayed an earlier second mating peak. In the cross-pairing of OBP31-/- and WT moths, the mating duration was longer, and hatchability was lower in OBP31-/- group and OBP31+/- ♂ group than that in the WT group. These results suggested that OBP31 played a vital role in larval light perception and male reproductive process and could provide valuable insights into understanding the biological functions of OBPs that were not specific in chemosensory tissues.

Abstract
To explore screening tools for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which are convenient for primary hospitals, it can provide basic data for formulating ASD prevention policies. This was a cross-sectional study by cluster sampling. Huyi District and Xincheng District were extracted for investigation in Xi'an City. From July 2021 to September 2022, all children aged from 3 months to 36 months who live in the two districts were subjected to primary screening. The child care physician used the routine screening tool "warning signs checklist for screening psychological, behavioral and developmental problems of children" and cartoon pictures of "early high-risk warning signs of autism", the children who were positive in the initial screening were referred to the district level maternal and child health hospital for re-screening, and those who were positive in the re-screening were referred to Xi 'an Children's Hospital for diagnosis. The results showed that a total of 17 905 children aged from 3 months to 36 months were initially screened in the two districts, including 10 588 children aged from 18 months to 36 months, 50 children who were positive in the initial screening and 50 children who were re-screened. 23 children (18 boys and 5 girls) were diagnosed with ASD. The prevalence rate of ASD in children was 2.17‰ (95% confidence interval:1.29‰-3.06‰). 42 children were positive for "warning signs checklist" at the preliminary screening, and 19 were confirmed as ASD. 27 children were positive for "cartoon pictures" in the preliminary screening, and 23 were confirmed with ASD. The "cartoon pictures" in the preliminary screening and diagnosis of consistent rate was higher than the "warning signs checklist", two kinds of screening methods comparison were statistically significant difference in the odds of consistent (χ2=11.01, P=0.001). In conclusion, relying on the three-level network of maternal and child health care, it is conducive to the whole process management of screening and diagnosis of children with ASD, and to guide the formulation of prevention policies. The cartoon pictures of "early high-risk warning signs of autism" can assist the identification of children with ASD based on the "warning signs checklist", which is simple, effective and suitable for promotion in the community health care.

Abstract
Insects coordinate a variety of mechanisms to overcome the feeding challenges, including gene transcriptional plasticity and stable symbioses in the gut. Here, Spodoptera frugiperda larvae were reared on corn and rice plants for successive generations to obtain two specific strains. The rice strain displayed a longer developmental period, lower female fecundity, and intrinsic growth rate at G1 and G5 but not at G10. KEGG analysis of the G1, G5, and G11 gut transcriptome indicated that detoxification enzymes might play vital roles in host adaptation. RNAi-mediated knockdown of CYP12A2 and UGT41B8, which were highly expressed in the gut of the rice strain, significantly reduced the larval adaptability to rice. Besides, the dsCYP12A2-treated larvae displayed an increased sensitivity to luteolin, a flavonoid phytochemical. The KEGG function prediction of gut microbiota indicated that the high enrichment level of metabolism in the rice strain would play essential roles in rice adaptation.

Abstract
Lycosidae females demonstrate meticulous maternal care of offspring by carrying egg sacs and juvenile spiderlings during the reproductive stage. Nuclear receptors (NRs), especially the ecdysone receptor (EcR) and ultraspiracle (USP), have attracted considerable attention in the regulation of arthropod development and reproduction due to their pivotal roles in ecdysteroid signaling cascades. In the present study, 23 NRs, including one EcR and two USPs, were identified in the genome of the predatory wolf spider Pardosa pseudoannulata. RNA interference (RNAi) targeting EcR and USP-1 inhibited spiderling development and resulted in non-viable eggs in the egg sacs. EcR and USP-1 responded to changes in ecdysteroid levels, and interference in ecdysteroid biosynthesis led to similar phenotypes as dsEcR and dsUSP-1 treatments. These findings suggest that EcR/USP-1-mediated ecdysteroid signaling regulates P. pseudoannulata development and reproduction. The P. pseudoannulata females with suppressed ecdysteroid signaling proactively consumed their non-viable egg sacs, resulting in a 7.19 d shorter first reproductive cycle than the controls. Termination of the failed reproductive cycle enabled the spiders to produce a new egg sac more rapidly. This reproductive strategy may partially rescue the reduction in population growth due to non-viable eggs and compensate for the physiological expenditure of wasted maternal care, which would be beneficial for the conservation of P. pseudoannulata populations and their natural control of insect pests.

Abstract
A rapid and accurate analytical method was established to identify CREC and CSEC. Orbitrap-MS was used to detect the polypeptide of CREC and CSEC strains, and MS data were analyzed by pattern recognition analyses such as hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). HCA based on the farthest distance method could well distinguish the two types of E. coli, and the cophenetic correlation coefficient of the farthest distance method was 0.901. Comparing the results of PCA, PLS-DA, and OPLS-DA, OPLS-DA exhibited the highest accuracy in predicting the CREC and CSEC strains. A total of 26 compounds were identified, and six of the compounds were the highly significant difference between the two types of strains. MS combined with pattern recognition can achieve a more comprehensive and efficient statistical analysis of complex biological samples.

Abstract
Based on air quality station data and satellite remote sensing data, the interannual variation characteristics and seasonal variation trends of near-surface ozone (O3) in Henan province were studied, and the variation in O3 sensitivity was analyzed. The results showed that the O3 concentration near the surface of Henan province increased first and then decreased from 2015 to 2020. The highest O3 concentration was found in 2018, and the annual mean of the maximum daily 8 h moving mean (MDA8) of O3 was 110.70 μg·m-3. The difference in MDA8 values among different stations gradually decreased. From 2015 to 2020, the average monthly MDA8 in Henan province showed an upward trend, with a growth rate of 2.46 μg·(m3·a)-1. According to the MK trend test, except for in Luohe, Nanyang, and Pingdingshan, the rising trend in other cities was significant (P<0.05). The concentration of MDA8 in the four seasons also showed an increasing trend during the 6 years as follows:autumn (19.31%)>winter (17.09%)>spring (16.82%)>summer (7.24%). From 2015 to 2019, the high value of tropospheric NO2 was concentrated in the northwest of Henan province, and the concentration showed a decreasing trend with a decreasing rate of 0.34×1015 molecules·(cm2·a)-1, whereas the tropospheric HCHO showed a slow rising trend with an annual growth rate of 0.19×1015 molecules·(cm2·a)-1, with a higher concentration in the northern urban area. The O3 sensitivity control area from 2015 to 2019 showed that most of the eastern part of Henan province belonged to the VOCs limited category.

Abstract
Periarticular calcification and ossification is a frequent finding on imaging and may sometimes pose a diagnostic challenge. The differential diagnoses for this radiological finding are wide and can be classified into broad groups such as idiopathic, developmental, trauma, burns, infection, tumor, connective tissue disease, crystalline, metabolic, vascular, and foreign bodies. With careful consideration of the clinical and imaging findings as well as awareness of mimickers of periarticular mineralization, the list of differential diagnoses can be narrowed down. This article aims to review the clinical-radiologic findings of periarticular calcified or ossified lesions with relevant imaging illustrations.

Abstract
To comprehend the runoff load of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) and the impact on the receiving river in an agricultural area with an intensive orchard plantation and a longitudinal ridge and furrow morphology in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, the runoff and N and P concentrations were dynamically monitored in a typical citrus orchard catchment in Wanzhou Country, Chongqing, China. The results showed that the nutrient concentration in runoff water from the intensive citrus planting catchment was very high. The average annual event mean concentrations (EMC) were 9.31 mg·L-1 for total nitrogen (TN), 8.11 mg·L-1 for dissolved nitrogen (DN), 5.66 mg·L-1 for nitrate nitrogen (NN), 0.51 mg·L-1 for ammonium nitrogen (AN), 0.87 mg·L-1 for total phosphorus, 0.56 mg·L-1 for solved phosphorus (DP), and 0.32 mg·L-1 for particulate phosphorus (DP). In addition, the annual loss loads were 13.43, 12.20, 8.77, 0.75, 1.26, 0.84, and 0.42 kg·(hm2·a)-1 for TN, DN, NN, AN, TP, DP, and PP, respectively. The annual average concentrations of TN and TP were 8.49 mg·L-1 and 0.87 mg·L-1, respectively, which exceeded the category V values of the surface water quality standards (GB3838-2002) by 4.25 times and 2.2 times, respectively, and also exceeded the internationally recognized thresholds for the eutrophication of waterbodies. The TN and TP loss load from storm runoff was one of the main reasons for the degradation of the river water quality, thus suggesting the need to treat surface runoff and control runoff nutrient losses, especially during the first storm events after fertilization. During two typical long-duration springtime rainfall events after fertilization, the loads of nitrate nitrogen (NN) and dissolved phosphorus (DP) were 4.94 kg·hm-2 and 0.28 kg·hm-2, respectively, which accounted for 92.90% and 64.69% of the total annual TN and TP loss loads, respectively. The loads of NN and DP in a short-duration high-intensity rainfall event were 0.52 and 0.05 kg·hm-2 respectively, which accounted for 65.92% and 74.88% of the total annual TN and TP loss loads, respectively. The DN and DP were the main forms of nitrogen and phosphorus losses from the intensive citrus orchard with a longitudinal ridge and furrow morphology. Meanwhile, the catchment showed a significant first-flush phenomenon during a typical rainfall event, with a total of 58.0%, 57.0%, 58.5%, 79.0%, 62.0%, 63.5%, and 60.0% of the mass of TN, DN, NN, AN, TP, DP, and PP in the initial 20% of the runoff, respectively. Hence, controlling the surface runoff at the early runoff stage plays an important role in reducing nutrient losses.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the factors related to recanalization of intramural hematoma-type carotid artery dissection (CAD). Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on 56 patients (61 CADs) with intramural-hematoma type CAD confirmed by multimodal imaging examination based on cervical vascular ultrasound (CDU) in the Stroke Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou University from August 2015 to May 2019. The clinical and imaging data were collected, and the time from onset to visit is bounded by 14 days. CDU follow-up was performed at 3, 6, and 12 months after the onset. According to the results of the 12-month follow-up, patients were divided into complete recanalization group and incomplete recanalization group. The clinical data, ultrasonic manifestations and drug treatment of patients between the two groups were compared. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the related factors affecting vascular recanalization. Results: Vascular recanalization: the rates of complete recanalization at 3, 6 and 12 months were 42.6% (26/61), 55.7% (34/61) and 59.0% (36/61), respectively. While among the 25 vessels in the incomplete recanalization group, 26.2% (16/61) showed residual stenosis and 14.8% (9/61) showed persistent occlusion. Comparison between the complete recanalization group and the incomplete recanalization group: the differences in the proportion of time from onset to visit ≤ 14 days, the echo type of intramural hematoma, and the proportion of vascular occlusion were statistically significant (all P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the time from onset to visit ≤14 days (OR=5.625, 95%CI: 1.302-24.293, P=0.021), and the hypoechoic intramural hematoma (OR=4.888, 95%CI: 1.304-18.320, P=0.019) were positively correlated with complete recanalization, while the dissection vascular occlusion (OR=0.234, 95%CI: 0.059-0.932, P=0.039) was negatively correlated with complete recanalization. Conclusions: CDU showed that hypoechoic intramural hematoma-type CAD treated with standard medications in the acute phase had a higher complete recanalization rate, while the recanalization rate of patients with dissecting vessel occlusion decreased. Early evaluation can provide a basis for clinical individualized treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tissue culture and rapid propagation technology is an important way to solve the difficulties of plant propagation. This experiment aims to explore the appropriate conditions at each stage of the red maple's tissue culture process and to obtain plantlets, thus providing a theoretical basis for the establishment of the red maple's tissue culture system. RESULTS The results showed that the stem segment is the most suitable explant for inducing embryogenic callus. The MS (Murashige&Skoog) + 0.8 mg/L TDZ (Thidiazuron) + 1.0 mg/L 6-BA (6-Benzylaminopurine) + 0.5 mg/L IAA(Indole-3-acetic acid) + 35 g/L sucrose+ 7.5 g/L semi-fixed medium was the best for callus formation. When selecting type VI callus as embryonic callus induction material, MS + 0.6 mg/L TDZ + 0.5 mg/L 6-BA + 2.0 mg/L IAA + 35 g/L sucrose+ 7.5 g/L semi-fixed medium can get embryonic callus. The optimal medium for adventitious bud induction is MS + 1.0 mg/L TDZ + 3.0 mg/L 6-BA+ 0.2 mg/L NAA (1-Naphthaleneacetic acid) + 1.2 mg/L IAA + 35 g/L sucrose+ 7.5 g/L semi-fixed medium. The induction rate of adventitious roots in MS + 0.6 mg/L TDZ + 1.0 mg/L 6-BA+ 3 mg/L NAA + 35 g/L sucrose+ 7.5 g/L semi-fixed medium was the highest, reaching 76%. CONCLUSIONS In the course of our research, we found that PGRs play an important role in the callus induction stage, and the effect of TDZ is particularly obvious; The callus cells grow and proliferate according to the "S" growth curve, and can be sub-cultured when the highest growth point is reached to maintain the rapid proliferation of the callus cells and to avoid inactivation of callus caused by tight niche.

Abstract
Abstract Objective To explore the change rules of blood ethanol and blood acetaldehyde concentration, the impairment of psychomotor functions of different acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) 2 genotype individuals after alcohol consumption and the relationship among them. Methods The ALDH2 genotypes in seventy-nine healthy volunteers were obtained by SNaPshotTM method, then divided into ALDH2*1/*1 (wild type) and ALDH2*1/*2 (mutant type) group. After volunteers consumed 1.0 g/kg of alcohol, blood ethanol concentration and blood acetaldehyde concentration at a series of time points before and after alcohol consumption and psychomotor functions, such as, visual selective response time, auditory simple response time and tracking experiment were detected. Biphasic alcohol response questionnaires were collected. Results After alcohol consumption, ALDH2*1/*2 group's blood ethanol and blood acetaldehyde concentration reached the peak earlier than ALDH2*1/*1 group. Its blood acetaldehyde concentration was higher than that of ALDH2*1/*1 group, 1-6 h after alcohol consumption. The psychomotor functions, such as visual selective response time and auditory simple response time in ALDH2*1/*2 group were more significantly impaired than those in ALDH2*1/*1 group after alcohol consumption. There was no statistical significance between the two groups in excitement or sedation reactions (P>0.05). Pearson correlation coefficient test showed that blood acetaldehyde concentration was related with psychomotor function. Conclusion There are significant differences between the psychomotor function of ALDH2 wild type and mutant type individuals after alcohol consumption estimated to be related to the difference in blood acetaldehyde concentration after alcohol consumption.

Abstract
Isoalantolactone is one of the major active ingredients from Inula helenium L. However, it is low cost-effective to isolate isoalantolactone from Inula helenium L. In this study, we optimized the extraction strategy and obtained a mixture of active ingredients with exact proportion (termed as F35), which were alloalantolactone, alantolactone and isoalantolactone at the ratio of 1/5/4 respectively. The anti-tumor activity of F35 was compared with isoalantolactone on pancreatic cancer cells. As a result, F35 showed nearly the same anti-proliferation activity as isoalantolactone in two cell lines. Both F35 and isoalantolactone could induce mitochondrion-related apoptosis at the concentration of 6 μg/ml. In addition, F35 inhibited colony-formation and migration of PANC-1 and SW1990 cells. To conclude, F35 exhibited similar anti-proliferation and anti-migration effect as isoalantolactone on two pancreatic cancer cell lines, suggesting that alantolactone or alloalantolactone might have comparable anti-tumor effect as isoalantolactone.

Abstract
Pharmacokinetic parameters can be significantly altered for acute kidney injury (AKI), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and continuous veno-venous hemofiltration therapy (CVVH). Here we reported a case of individualized vancomycin dosing for a patient diagnosed as severe acute pancreatitis treated with concurrent ECMO and CVVH. A 65 kg 32-year-old woman was admitted to hospital presented with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), respiratory failure, metabotropic acidosis and hyperkalemia. She was admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) on hospital day 1 and was initiated on CVVH. She progressed to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) on ICU day 2, and veno-venous ECMO was instituted. Several catheters were inserted into the body to support ECMO, CVVH and pulse indicator continuous cardiac output (PiCCO), so vancomycin was prescribed empirically on ICU day 3 for prevention of catheter-related infection. Given the residual renal function and continuous hemofiltration intensity on day 3, vancomycin bolus of 1 000 mg was prescribed, followed by a maintenance dose of 500 mg every 8 hours. On ICU day 4, a vancomycin trough serum concentration of 14.1 mg/L was obtained before the fourth dose, which was within the target range of 10-20 mg/L. By ICU day 7, vancomycin dosage was elevated to 1.0 g every 12 hours because of aggravated infection and improved kidney function. On ICU day 14, a vancomycin trough serum concentration of 17 mg/L was obtained. Her white blood cell (WBC) and neutrophil percentage (Neut%) dropped to the normal level by ICU day 19. This vancomycin regimen was successful in providing a target attainment of trough serum concentration ranging from 10-20 mg/L quickly and in controlling infection-related symptoms and signs properly. With the help of this case report we want to call attention to the clinically significant alteration in vancomycin pharmacokinetics among critically ill patients. Individualized vancomycin dosing regimens and therapeutic drug monitoring are necessary for critically ill patients receiving CVVH and ECMO to ensure that the target serum vancomycin levels are reached to adequately treat the infection and avoid nephrotoxicity.

Abstract
This study was carried out to study multi-slice spiral CT imaging for patients with gastric carcinoma and explore the values of multi-slice spiral CT imaging in staging prior to gastric carcinoma (GC) surgery. Forty-eight patients with GC underwent multi-slice spiral CT, and the scanning results were compared with the pathological results. The similarity of the results was observed, and the accuracy was calculated. Of 48 patients, 8 did not undergo surgery because of metastasis. In the diagnosis of the remaining 40 patients, the sensitivity of multi-slice spiral CT in the diagnosis of staging of invasive depth of GC was 77.5%; κ = 0.642 in the analysis of consistency; there was no significant difference with the pathological results (p >0.05). The overall accuracy of diagnosis for stage N was 80%. The accuracy of multi-slice CT in detecting distant metastasis of GC was 87.5%. Multi-slice spiral CT can determine and evaluate various metastases of GC. The diagnostic results obtained using multi-slice spiral CT was probably consistent with the pathological results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore the effects of ADH1B and ALDH2 gene polymorphism and type of alcoholic beverage on ethanol metabolism, to provide data support for cases involving the interpretation of ethanol metabolism or back calculation of blood ethanol concentration in forensic practice. METHODS A total of 81 volunteers were selected. The genotypes of ADH1B, ADH1C and ALDH2 were obtained by a multiplex SNaPshot genotyping method. Each subject was administered with 1.0 g/kg of alcohol. About 1 mL venous blood was collected before and after the alcohol consumption at 30 min, 45 min, 1 h, 1.5 h, 2 h, 3 h, 4 h, 5 h, 6 h, 7 h and 8 h, respectively. The concentrations of ethanol and acetaldehyde in blood were determined by headspace gas chromatography. The peak times of blood ethanol concentration (Tmax), the peak mass concentrations of ethanol (Cmax), the area under curve (AUC) of ethanol (AUCethanol), AUCacetaldehyde and ethanol elimination rates (β) were calculated. In order to eliminate the influence of ADH1C, the ADH1C*1/*1 carriers were grouped based on the genotype of ADH1B and ALDH2. The data of each group were evaluated by one-way analysis of variance and pairwise comparison tests were performed by least significant difference method. The gene interactions were evaluated by two-way analysis of variance. Each parameter of three kinds of alcoholic beverage (white wine, red wine and beer) among groups was analysed by variance analysis with randomized block design. RESULTS There were no differences in the value of Tmax and Cmax between the groups with different ADH1B and ALDH2 genotype. The differences in the values of AUCethanol, β and AUCacetaldehyde among some groups carrying different ADH1B and ALDH2 genotype had statistical significance, while no significant difference was observed in these parameters when one individual taking same dose of different alcoholic beverage type. CONCLUSIONS The ethanol metabolism is associated with the related gene polymorphism, which is barely affected by alcoholic beverage type.

Abstract
Controversial views exist with regards to the use of intravenous magnesium sulphate in patient with severe asthmatic attack. The benefit of intravenous magnesium sulphate may be masked by the pooling of patients with different pathophysiology. The subsets of patients with severe asthmatic attack who have not responded to nebulised bronchodilator therapy and intravenous steroid therapy may benefit from intravenous magnesium sulphate therapy.

Abstract
Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) are a series of intracellular molecules with immunoregulatory activity which are released by the damaged or activated cells and can induce autoimmunity or immune tolerance via pattern recognition receptors. At present, the DAMPs which have been discovered include extracellular histone, high-mobility group box-1, chromosomal deoxyribonucleic acid, interleukin-18, interleukin-32, uric acid, and mitochondrial transcription factors. The discovery of DAMPs and clarification of their mechanisms of action help to know the pathophysiological process of liver failure and provide new thoughts for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of liver failure. This article briefly summarizes the concept of DAMPs and their mechanisms of action in the development and progression of liver failure.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To assess if parameters in intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) can be used to evaluate early renal fibrosis in a mouse model of diabetic nephropathy. MATERIALS & METHODS In a population of 38 male CD1 mice (8weeks old, 20-30g), streptozotocin induced diabetes was created in 20 mice via a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at 150mg/kg, while 18 mice served as control group. IVIM parameters were acquired at 0, 12 and 24weeks after injection of streptozotocin using a range of b values from 0 to 1200s/mm2. DTI parameters were obtained using 12 diffusion directions and lower b values of 0, 100 and 400s/mm2. DTI and IVIM parameters were obtained using region of interests drawn over the renal parenchyma. Histopathological analysis of the right kidney was performed in all mice. Results were analyzed using an unpaired t-test with P<0.05 considered statistically significant. RESULTS Renal cortex fractional anisotropy (FA) was significantly lower in the diabetes group at week 12 as compared with the control group. Renal cortex apparent diffusion coefficient and tissue diffusivity were significantly higher in the diabetes group at week 12 compared with the control group at 12weeks. Blood flow was significantly decreased at the renal medulla at 24weeks. Histopathological analysis confirmed fibrosis in the diabetes group at 24weeks. CONCLUSION FA is significantly reduced in diabetic nephropathy. FA might serve a potential role in the detection and therapy monitoring of early diabetic nephropathy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of Keap1-Nrf2 pathway on cell proliferation, metastasis and drug resistance of human lung cancer A549 cell line. METHODS A549-Keap1 cell line, constantly expressing wild type Keap1, was established by lentiviral transfection. Real-time RT-PCR and western blot were used to determine the expression of Nrf2 and its target gene in A549 cells. Sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay, flow cytometry, colony formation assay, transwell assay, and cell wound-healing assay were performed to explore the effect of wild type Keap1 expression on the proliferation, invasion, migration and drug resistance of A549 cells. RESULTS Over-expressed Keap1 decreased the expression of Nrf2 protein and the mRNA level of its downstream target genes and inhibited the ability of cell proliferation and clone formation of A549 cells. Keap1 overexpression induced G0/G1 phase arrest. The percentage of A549-Keap1 cells in G0/G1 phase was significantly higher than that of A549-GFP cells (80.2±5.9)% vs. (67.1±0.9%)(P<0.05). Compared with the invasive A549-Keap1 cells (156.33±17.37), the number of invasive A549-GFP cells was significantly higher (306.67±22.19) in a high power field. Keap1 overexpression significantly enhanced the sensitivity of A549 cells to carboplatin and gemcitabine (P<0.01). The IC50s of carboplatin in A549-Keap1 and A549-GFP cells were (52.1±3.3) μmol/L and (107.8±12.9) μmol/L, respectively. The IC50s of gemcitabine in A549-Keap1 and A549-GFP cells were (6.8±1.2) μmol/L and (9.9±0.5) μmol/L, respectively. CONCLUSION Keap1 overexpression significantly inhibits the expression of Nrf2 and its downstream target genes, suppresses tumor cell proliferation and metastasis, and enhances the sensitivity of A549 cells to anticancer drugs.

Abstract
In this study, the wetting behaviors of single droplet on a micro square-post patterned surface with different geometrical parameters are investigated theoretically and numerically. A theoretical model is proposed for the prediction of wetting transition from the Cassie to Wenzel regimes. In addition, due to the limitation of theoretical method, a numerical simulation is performed, which helps get a view of dynamic contact lines, detailed velocity fields, etc., even if the droplet size is comparable with the scale of the surface micro-structures. It is found that the numerical results of the liquid drop behaviours on the square-post patterned surface are in good agreement with the predicted values by the theoretical model.

Abstract
The Chinese herbal formula Tongluo Jiunao, containing the active components Panax notoginseng and Gardenia jasminoides, has recently been patented and is in use clinically. It is known to be neuroprotective in cerebral ischemia, but the underlying pathway remains poorly understood. In the present study, we established a rat model of cerebral ischemia by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, and administered Tongluo Jiunao, a positive control (Xuesai Tong, containing Panax notoginseng) or saline intraperitoneally to investigate the pathway involved in the action of Tongluo Jiunao injection. 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining showed that the cerebral infarct area was significantly smaller in model rats that received Tongluo Jiunao than in those that received saline. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay revealed significantly greater expression of neurotrophin 3 and growth-associated protein 43 in ischemic cerebral tissue, and serum levels of neurotrophin 3, in the Tongluo Jiunao group than in the saline group. The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemical staining showed that after treatment with Tongluo Jiunao or Xuesai Tong, tropomyosin-related kinase C gene expression and immunoreactivity were significantly elevated compared with saline, with the greatest expression observed after Tongluo Jiunao treatment. These findings suggest that Tongluo Jiunao injection exerts a neuroprotective effect in rats with cerebral ischemia by activating the neurotrophin 3/tropomyosin-related kinase C pathway.

Abstract
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of one alpha-hydroxycholecalciferol (1α-OH D3) on growth performance, tibia quality, and skin and meat color in broilers fed calcium (Ca)- and phosphorus (P)-deficient corn-soybean meal diets. A total of 288 male Ross broilers, at 21 days of age, were randomly assigned to three treatments with eight cages per treatment. Three levels of 1α-OH D3 (0, 5, and 10 μg/kg) were added to a basal diet (0.50% Ca, 0.13% non-phytate phosphorus (NPP), and 0.35% total phosphorus (tP)) without vitamin D3. As a result of this study, the addition of 1α-OH D3 increased body weight gain (p<0.001), feed intake (p = 0.007), feed efficiency (p<0.001), tibia weight (p = 0.002), length (p<0.001), breaking-strength (p = 0.012), ash (p<0.001), Ca (p<0.001), and P content (p = 0.004). Dietary 1α-OH D3 enhanced breast meat yellowness (p = 0.015) and the length and weight of the small intestine of the broilers. Moreover, 1α-OH D3 decreased serum Ca concentration (p = 0.074) and breast meat redness (p = 0.010). These results indicate that the 1α-OH D3 improves growth, tibia quality, and meat color in broilers fed Ca- and P-deficient corn-soybean meal diets.

Abstract
More than 40 species of marine fishes are cultured in China and a wide variety of parasites are reported as lethal pathogens of these fishes in culture conditions. In the case of net cages, the culture facilities provides a good substrate for monogenean eggs to become entangled and the intensive aggregation of fishes facilitates the transmission of parasites between hosts. Relatively thorough studies on parasitic pathogens of marine fishes in China predominately concern the ciliate Cryptocaryon irritans and capsalid monogeneans (mainly Benedenia sp. and Neobenedenia sp.). Although nearly all such reports are related to treatment procedures, no single method has proved to be adequate for the effective control of these parasitic pathogens in marine cultured fishes. The National Fisheries Technology Extension Center (NFTEC) has established surveillance systems to monitor the diseases of aquaculture, including the parasitic diseases of maricultured fishes. The national monitoring stations for diseases of cultured marine fishes are distributed in the coastal counties or cities and provide remote in situ diagnoses of diseased fishes. International cooperation and effort are required for the control of parasitic diseases of marine finfish because of both the increasing international trade of eggs (seed) and larvae and commercial products in terms of live marine finfishes, which can readily result in the transmission of pathogens.

Abstract
Two different protocols for the preparation of water-soluble, enantiomerically pure polyhydroxybisphospholanes from acid-labile acetal and tert-butyldimethylsilyl-protected derivatives are reported. These procedures circumvent two of the commonly encountered limitations in the synthesis of these potentially important ligands: (a) formation of phosphonium salts from the highly basic phosphine under acidic conditions, and (b) the need to start with preformed, fully protected cationic metal complex. Thus, cationic Rh complexes of these ligands have been prepared in a separate step, and they have been found to be excellent catalysts for organic and aqueous phase hydrogenation of dehydroamino acids. The viability of catalyst recovery has been demonstrated in three different systems, including two cases where > 99% ee can be achieved under recycling conditions.

Abstract
Studies have indicated that vitamin B6 status decreases with age. However, little is known about vitamin B6 status of elderly people in Taiwan. The purpose of this study was to assess vitamin B6 status of elderly Taiwanese and to examine the effect of protein on various indices of vitamin B6 status in the elderly. Thirty-nine men (mean age = 69.9 +/- 4.2 years) and 55 women (mean age = 69.5 +/- 3.9 years) completed a 24-h diet recall. The mean total vitamin B6 intake (men: 1.7 +/- 0.9 g/day; women: 1.6 +/- 1.2 g/day) was higher than the 1998 US Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) and the current Taiwan Recommended Daily Nutrient Allowance (RDNA). Dietary energy and protein intakes were not related to any vitamin B6 status parameters in any sex groups and the pooled group. Vitamin B6 intake correlated only with erythrocyte aspartate transaminase activity coefficient (EAST-AC) in the pooled (r = -0.214, p < 0.05) group. There were no significant differences in plasma pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP), erythrocyte alanine transaminase activity coefficient (EALT-AC), and EAST-AC between sex groups. Although elderly subjects had adequate mean plasma PLP concentrations, 59% of men and 55% of women had plasma PLP concentrations lower than a cutoff of 20 nmol/L. The mean EALT-AC was < 1.25 in two groups with adequate vitamin B6 status. However, 23% of men and 18% of women had EALT-AC values > 1.25. The mean EAST-AC value of subjects was higher than the suggested value (< 1.8) for inadequate vitamin B6 status. The incidence of biochemical vitamin B6 deficiency in our elderly is probably more relevant from other causes than from dietary intake of protein and vitamin B6.

Abstract
A series of water-soluble chelating bis-phosphinite ligands have been prepared from D-salicin (2-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl beta-D-glucopyranoside). The 4- and 6-hydroxyl groups of salicin were protected as a cyclic ketal. Mitsunobu reaction with phthalimide at the benzylic position was used to install the aminomethyl side-chain in the C(1)-aromatic substituent. Formation of the bis-2,3-O-diarylphosphinite was accomplished by reaction of the resulting diol with chlorodiarylphosphine. Quaternization with Meerwein's salt (Me(3)O(+) BF(4)(-)) followed by reaction with Rh(+)(COD)(2) BF(4)(-) gave precatalysts with limited aqueous solubility. Deprotection of the ketal group with acidic resin in methanol gave water-soluble cationic Rh complexes that are competent to carry out highly efficient hydrogenation of acetamidoacrylic acid derivatives in organic, aqueous, or biphasic media. However, enantioselectivities of these reactions in neat aqueous or biphasic media are generally lower than those observed in organic medium.

Abstract
This study is the first attempt to investigate mortality seasonality and weather-mortality relationships in Hong Kong from 1980 to 1994. Monthly mortality data from all causes of death, neoplasm, circulatory and respiratory diseases were obtained from the Census and Statistics Department and the weather data were obtained from the Hong Kong Observatory. Regression analyses and ANOVA were employed. Significant winter peaks in sex specific and total deaths from all causes, circulatory and respiratory diseases were ascertained. Cancer mortality, however, was not seasonal. Mortality seasonality only existed in age groups 45-64 and > or =65. For the impact of weather on mortality, no significant relationship between weather variables and cancer mortality was observed. A significant negative association between minimum temperature and a positive relationship between cloud and deaths were found. This suggests that colder and cloudy conditions may heighten mortality. Wind was discovered to have a negative association with mortality. This finding revealed that the stressful effect of wind on mortality was negligible. There was no apparent sex difference. Deaths from the younger age groups (0-24 yr old) were not weather related. Weak weather connection with mortality for age group 25-44 was discovered, with Adj r2 values ranging from 0.05 to 0.07. The elderly (age > or =65) were more vulnerable to weather stress and strong weather-mortality relationship was uncovered, with Adj r2 values from 0.36 to 0.66. These results are important information for formulating public health policies.

Abstract
cGMP is the natural activator of the cyclic nucleotide-gated channel originally isolated from rod photoreceptors but now known to be expressed in a wide variety of neural and non-neural cells. To identify antagonists of cGMP action and to better understand the interaction between cGMP and the channel protein, experimental studies were undertaken using four synthetic cGMP analogues, PET-cGMP, 8-Br-PET-cGMP, Rp-8-Br-PET-cGMPS, and Sp-8-Br-PET-cGMPS. With excised patches from either Xenopus oocytes expressing a cloned rat rod channel alpha-subunit or from native Xenopus rod photoreceptors, Rp-8-Br-PET-cGMPS competitively suppressed the cGMP-induced current with an IC50 of 25 microM and Sp-8-Br-PET-cGMPS inhibited this current with an IC50 of 105 microM. On the expressed rat rod channel, 8-Br-PET-cGMP behaved as a very weak partial agonist at high concentrations and an antagonist (IC50 = 64 microM) at lower concentrations when coapplied with cGMP. PET-cGMP did not activate channel currents alone but showed a synergism when coapplied with subsaturating concentrations of cGMP. Because Sp-8-Br-PET-cGMPS is a potent activator of type I cGMP-dependent protein kinase, but a competitive antagonist of channel activation, it will be a useful reagent for discriminating between those effects of cGMP that are mediated by a protein kinase and those mediated by channel activation. Because the PET derivatives all contain a phenyl-substituted 5-membered ring system fused to the amino group in position 2 and the nitrogen in position 1 of the guanine ring, the results support the idea that N1 and N2 are important for channel activation. They also suggest a minor role for the cyclic phosphate group in binding or activation.
