Abstract
The global concern regarding the health risk associated with airborne microorganisms has prompted research in this field. However, there is a lack of systematic investigation into the particle-size distribution of airborne bacterial and fungal communities associated with seasons, which determines where they are deposited in the human respiratory tract. To address this gap, we conducted a study in Nanchang, located in central China, where we collected both coarse and fine particles during summer and winter seasons. The results demonstrated that microbial community exhibited obvious seasonal and particle-size variations except bacterial community in fine particles. Certain taxa (e.g., Bacteroidales, Ktedonobacterales, Capnodiales) displayed either seasonal and/or particle-size preferences. Furthermore, airborne microorganisms in coarse particles were more sensitive to season and particle size compared to those in fine particles, with fungal community being more susceptible than bacterial community. The susceptibility can be attributed to their high vulnerability to air pollutants and meteorological conditions, primarily PM2.5 and PM10. Additionally, a greater relative abundance of pathogenic fungi was observed in fine particles, even though microbial diversity in coarse particles was noticeably higher than that in fine particles. Furthermore, some predominant pathogens such as Alternaria, Nigrospora, and Escherichia-Shigella not only had particle size and/or seasonal preferences, but also were strongly correlated with environmental factors. This study advances our understanding of atmospheric pathogenic microorganisms and highlights the fungal health threat.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Respiratory infections are one of the world's most common infectious diseases. Following the species, numbers, and seasonal distribution of acute respiratory agents is important for the protection of public health. Our study aimed to determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the circulation and seasonal distribution of non-SARS-CoV-2 respiratory tract agents and research on non-SARS-CoV-2 agents. METHODS The results of the Multiplex PCR respiratory panel of 3702 nasopharyngeal swab samples sent between January 2018 and December 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. Scientific articles on acute respiratory infections between 2010 and 2021 from Turkey were analyzed in Scopus for bibliometric analysis. RESULTS 1.382 pathogens were detected. During the pandemic, the number of non-SARS-CoV-2 pathogens was found to be statistically significantly lower than before the pandemic. It was determined that while the most frequent agent before the pandemic was the Adenovirus, the most frequent agent was the RSV-A during the pandemic. Our network analysis of keywords indicated that academic interest in 2020-21 was directed toward COVID-19, which coincides with the pandemic period. CONCLUSIONS Our study determined the fact that the incidence, species, and seasonal distribution of non-SARS-COV-2 respiratory agents changed after the onset of the pandemic. Increasing the identification and following-up of these pathogens in health organizations and also presenting these data to literature and sharing with academics is important. We are of the opinion that the results of our study shall shed light on the epidemiology of changing respiratory infections and the prevention and following-up of future health problems.

Abstract
Groundwater is the second largest water source for daily consumption, only next to surface water resources. Groundwater has been extensively investigated for its pollution level in urban areas. The groundwater quality assessments in industrial areas associated with every urban landscape are still lacking. In order to examine the spatial distribution characteristics, pollution levels, and sources of trace metals in the densely populated Chennai coastal region of Tamilnadu, India, physicochemical parameters and trace element concentrations have been determined in groundwater. 55 groundwater samples from Tamil Nadu's coastal region were collected and analyzed for physicochemical parameters such as pH, (EC), (TDS), and (TH) during the pre-monsoon (June 2015) and post-monsoon (January 2016) seasons. We used trace elements and analyzed them in this study (Mg, Zn, Pb, Ni, Co, Cu, Cr, and Fe). Furthermore, anthropogenic input from industries and power plants exacerbates the pollution of Ni, Mg, Fe, and Mn. Due to evaporites and anthropogenic input, samples with excessive salinity, total hardness, and water quality are considered unsuitable for irrigation or drinking. The results demonstrated that seasonal, geogenic, and anthropogenic influences all have a significant impact on the heterogeneous chemistry of groundwater.

Abstract
The seasonal distribution of SARS-CoV-2 might be affected by air pollution. To test the hypothesis, epidemic determinants, namely, shape, timing (Peak and Trough) and size (Peak to Trough Ratio and Excess Risk) of seasonal distribution of the outbreak were compared before and after adjusting for air pollutants in a distributed lag nonlinear model. We controlled for one-lagged outcome and meteorological parameters in the model. We also evaluated interaction effect between air pollutants and season using stratification method. The epidemic determinants were changed after adjusting for PM2.5 and O3 in the model, suggesting the existence of their association with the seasonal distribution of the outbreak. The Excess Risk of season (i.e., the proportion of confirmed Covid-19 cases that were attributed to season; AF) was increased as %4 (%95 CI - 29, 38) after adjusting for PM2.5. Adjusting for O3 in the model resulted in % 1 (%95 CI - 36, 34) decrease in the index. NO, NO2 and SO2 had no association with the seasonal distribution, though the interaction analysis revealed that association of NO2 and SO2 with Covid-19 confirmed cases were significantly higher in fall than winter and spring, respectively. Totally, PM2.5 has negatively associated with the seasonal distribution of the outbreak while O3 has positively associated in the region under study. Although some reasons such as wearing mask and oxidative effect might go before the negative and positive associations, but our results suggests that any association and causation between air pollution and Covid-19 should be carefully interpreted.

Abstract
As China's first cross-province ecological compensation mechanism pilot area in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta, Xin'an River has been hotspot in the study of rational utilization of ecological resources, and the functional value of its ecosystem services has been widely concerned. As an important tributary of the upper reaches of Xin'an River, Fengle River may affect the whole basin. The spatial-temporal distributions, occurrence, water quality and risk assessment of trace elements were studied in Fengle River in three seasons. High element concentrations were found in the downstream. Traceability models results showed that the major sources of trace elements were related to different human activities. The water quality was worse downstream in the wet season, and was more suitable for irrigation in the dry season. Risk assessment results showed that Zn, Cu, Mn, Co, and As were able to pose the risk to the ecological environment and human.

Abstract
Ultraviolet absorbents (UVAs) are widely used in various industrial materials, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, resulting in their frequent occurrences in sediment, water, and biota. However, our understanding of the spatiotemporal characteristics and long-term contamination status of UVAs is still limited. Here, a 6-year biomonitoring study with oysters during wet and dry seasons was conducted to examine the annual, seasonal, and spatial characteristics of UVAs in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), China. The concentrations of Σ6UVA ranged from 9.1 to 119 (geometric mean ± standard deviation: 31 ± 22) ng/g dry wt. and peaked in 2018. Significant spatiotemporal variations in UVA contamination were observed. The concentrations of UVAs in oysters during the wet season were higher than the dry season, and concentrations in the more industrialized eastern coast were higher than the western coast (p < 0.05). Environmental factors, including precipitation, temperature, and salinity in water significantly impacted the UVA bioaccumulation in the oysters. The present study highlights that long-term biomonitoring with oysters provided valuable insight in the magnitude and seasonal variation of UVAs in this highly dynamic estuary.

Abstract
The present study reports site-specific data on the seasonal variation in microplastic abundance and characteristics in coastal sediments along the North Eastern Arabian Sea, India. The abundance of MP in coastal sediments ranged from 4400 to 15,300 items/kg dry weight (DW), with the dominance of the size ranging between 100 and 500 μm. In the studied sediment samples, fibers were the most dominant form, followed by fragments. Ten different microplastics polymers were recorded during the study with dominance of polyethylene, polyester, polyamide and all the recorded plastic items in the sediments were denser than water, except polyethylene. The mean abundance of MP in sediments was significantly higher in the monsoon season. During this season, freshwater flow increases to the sea, which brings a higher concentration of microplastics from catchment areas. For a better insight, more time-series data and research are required to assess the source of MP pollution, understand spatial-temporal variations in MP abundance and their possible hazardous impacts on marine organisms and the environment.

Abstract
Synthetic musks are aroma compounds used worldwide as substitutes for natural musks, which have become ubiquitous pollutants in the environment. The land-based input and partition behavior of synthetic musks in sediments and seawater are important for understanding their fate in the marine environment. In this study, a total of 292 seawater and sediment samples from 146 sites of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea were collected during wet and dry seasons and used to determine four synthetic musks, tonalide, galaxolide, musk xylene and musk ketone. Only tonalide was detectable in 10.6% and 17.8% of seawater samples at a concentration range of 23.7-38.2 ng/L and 19.0-24.8 ng/L in wet season and dry season, respectively. In sediments, both galaxolide and tonalide were detectable, with a sum total synthetic musks concentration ranging from 1.4 to 36.6 ng/g dry weight (dw) in wet season and 1.0 to 14.1 ng/g dw in dry season. The concentration of tonalide in seawater was significantly higher in wet season than in dry season and the concentration of synthetic musks in sediments of some coastal areas also exhibited higher concentrations in wet season than in dry season. Fugacity analysis showed that tonalide in the Yellow Sea exhibited a trend of diffusion from sediment to seawater or a state of equilibrium, while no diffusion trend was observed in the East China Sea. The hazard quotient values for tonalide and galaxolide in sediment and seawater samples were lower than 0.1, indicating that they present a low ecological risk. This research provides novel insights that help understand the pollution status, diffusion behavior and ecological risk of synthetic musks in marine environments.

Abstract
Ostracods are a diverse group of microcrustaceans with a ubiquitous distribution in a wide array of aquatic habitats and are common constituents of lake sediments. Inferences on the temporal-spatial distribution of ostracod species is a prerequisite for reconstructions of palaeoenvironmental conditions. This requires a precise knowledge not only about ecological preferences and specific life histories, but also the understanding how (local) ecological parameters affect ostracod species assemblages (abundance and composition). Generally, these studies are rare and often characterized by an insufficient differentiation of living specimens from the total amount of valves of the modern population leading to uncertainties in species occurrences and diversity data. Modern ostracod populations were sampled from 12 water bodies within a relatively small study area (Mansfeld lake area, Central Germany). Physico-chemical parameters (temperature, oxygen content, conductivity, pH) were measured in situ and the uppermost 2 cm of sediment were collected in different seasons (April, June, September). Relative abundances of ostracods (living and dead), differentiated for adults and juveniles, were used for statistical analyses (Spearman's rank correlation, Canonical correspondence analysis, Cluster analyses, Fisher's α), to investigate relationships between species distribution and environmental factors as well as to identify habitat similarities and ostracod species assemblages. In total, 27 ostracod species (20 living species) were identified. Majority of them are considered as very common (cosmopolitan) freshwater species. Only two species are usually known from brackish water (Cytheromorpha fuscata and Cyprideis torosa). This is the first confirmation of living C. torosa in German inland waters. The relative abundances of ostracods show strong fluctuations during the study period and differences in composition of the ostracod species assemblages between and within the water bodies. There are also strong differences between bio- and taphocoenoses. The measured physico-chemical parameters which are usually considered as most important drivers on ostracod species distribution do not contribute to explain the observed temporal-spatial distribution of the ostracod species. Differences in taphocoenoses show, that taphonomic processes can be very local and the sampling site, as well as the sampling time, is crucial. Biodiversity of ostracods is biased by sampling time, the variability of the ostracod assemblages between sampling month and the relationship between abundance of valves and living ostracods is not straightforward. Therefore, without precise knowledge of the ecological requirements of a species at a local scale, uncertainties may exist for the palaeoecological indication of a species.

Abstract
The irrational use of antibiotics has given rise to the proliferation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in coastal bays. There were few reports on the seasonal distribution of ARGs under the influence of land-ocean interaction in coastal bay. This work studied the seasonal and spatial proliferation of ARGs under the influences of land-ocean interaction in the Sishili Bay. Ten ARGs including tetB, tetG, tetX, sul1, sul2, qnrA, qnrB, qnrS, ermF, ermT and class 1 integron-integrase gene (intI1) were detected and quantified. The relative abundances of intI1 and most of ARGs were in orders of magnitude of 1 × 10-7-2 copies/16S rRNA copies. The abundances of total ARGs in autumn and summer were much higher than those in the other seasons. Estuary, port and aquaculture farms were important reservoirs of ARGs in the bay. The nutrient levels in coastal water were positively associated with most of the ARGs and intI1, indicating that the water quality was an important driver of ARGs and their transmission. The land-based discharge and seawater stratification were proved to be the dominant driving factors for the seasonal distribution of ARGs in the coastal bay. The land-based discharge and seawater stratification were enhanced from spring to summer, which led to the sharp increase in ARGs in the surface water of the bay.

Abstract
This study focuses on the inter-seasonal distribution and variability of thirteen native PAHs adsorbed onto respirable PM2.5 fraction collected in a coastal-urban region of northern Poland, in 2019. The backward trajectory analysis and several diagnostic ratios were applied to determine seasonal profiles of PAH congeners and their major sources in airborne samples. The annual cumulative mean value of total PAHs in PM2.5 was 6.92 ± 10.1 ng m-3, varying in the following range: 0.32 ng m-3 (May) - 68.57 ng m-3 (January). Seasonal mass concentrations of total particulate PAHs were ranked as follows: summer (1.27 ng m-3) < spring (4.83 ng m-3) < autumn (6.16 ng m-3) < winter (18.5 ng m-3). Clear seasonal differences in PAH concentrations can be explained by direct impact of local and regional urban/industrial activities, with priority winter contribution of coal combustion in residential and commercial sectors. In addition, for summer measurements the diagnostic ratios indicated that high molecular weight PAHs were mainly derived from vehicle emission and petrochemical industry, while relatively low mass contribution of 4-ring congeners to the total sum of PAHs was attributed to photochemical processing. The analysis of meteorological parameters (temperature, relative humidity) and gaseous precursors (SO2, NO2, NOx, O3 and CO) exhibits their statistically significant correlations with PAHs, indicating local/regional primary emission. The incremental lifetime cancer risk was 1.23 × 10-5, suggesting potential toxicity and carcinogenicity for adult females and males. This study highlights the importance of the implementation of health risk assessment model in urbanized coastal zones.

Abstract
PM2.5 samples were collected during 2017-2018 at two Eastern Mediterranean urban sites in Greece, Athens and Patra, in order to study the abundances, the seasonal trends, the sources and the possible impact of gas phase pollutants on organosulfate formation. Each of the studied groups, except that of aromatic organosulfates, presented higher concentrations in Patra compared to those measured in Athens, from 1.1 (nitro-oxy organosulfates) to 3.6 times (isoprene organosulfates). At both sites, isoprene organosulfates was the dominant group which accounted on average for more than 50% of the total measured organosulfates, with the contribution being more than 80% during summer. Strong seasonality was observed at both sites, regarding the isoprene organosulfates, with an almost 21-fold increase from winter to summer. The same pattern, but to a lesser extent, was also observed for monoterpenes organosulfates at both sites. Alkyl organosulfates followed an identical seasonal trend with the highest mean concentrations observed during spring followed by autumn. The seasonality of anthropogenic organosulfates, multisource organosulfates and nitro-oxy organosulfates differed among the two sites or presented a more compound-specific variation. The isoprene-epoxydiol pathway appeared to be the dominant pathway of isoprene transformation, with the compounds iOS211, iOS213 and iOS215 being the major isoprene organosulfate compounds at both sites. Organosulfate contribution to the concentration of particulate matter presented common variation at both sites, ranging from 0.20 ± 0.14% (winter) to 2.5 ± 1.2% (summer) and from 0.21 ± 0.13% (winter) to 5.0 ± 2.5% (summer) for Athens and Patra, respectively. The increased NOx levels in Athens, appeared to affect isoprene organosulfate formation as well as the formation of monoterpene and decalin nitro-oxy organosulfates. Principal component analysis followed by multiple linear regression analysis highlighted the dominance of isoprene organosulfates. In Athens, the possible impact of transportation emissions on the formation of monoterpene nitro-oxy organosulfates is indicated while the correlation of naphthalene organosulfates with low molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons suggests that vehicle emissions may be a significant source. In Patra, the possible contribution of sea on methyl sulfate levels is denoted.

Abstract
Microplastics (MPs) are toxic pollutants, which are found ubiquitously in the marine environment. The present study aimed to assess the level of MP contamination in Vellar estuary, southeast coast of India. MP abundance in surface water and sediments ranged from 1.15 ± 0.01 to 5.14 ± 0.04 items/m3 and 24.8 ± 0.75 to 43.4 ± 0.98 particles/kg d.w., respectively. Fiber, fragment, film, pellet and glitter were present in the study area. In total, ten colors of MPs were found in the study, of which black was the most abundant. Seven polymers in sediments and four polymers in water were characterized from the study area, among which LDPE was the most dominant. Sediment texture results showed that clay particles were able to retain a greater number of MPs. This study shows that the Vellar estuary is contaminated with MPs; however, further investigation is required to classify the estuary as polluted.

Abstract
Irgarol 1051 and diuron are photosystem II inhibitors in agricultural activities and antifouling paints in the shipping sector. This study focused on three major ports (western, southern, and eastern) surrounding Peninsular Malaysia to construct the distribution of both biocides on the basis of the seasonal and geographical changes. Surface seawater samples were collected from November 2011 to April 2012 and pretreated using the solid-phase extraction technique followed by quantification with GC-MS and LC-MS-MS for Irgarol 1051 and diuron, respectively. Generally, the distribution of Irgarol 1051 was lowest during November 2011 and highest during April 2012, and similar patterns were observed at all ports, whereas the distribution of diuron was rather vague. The increasing pattern of Irgarol 1051 from time to time is probably related to its accumulation in the seawater as a result of its half-life and consistent utilization. On the basis of the discriminant analysis, the temporal distribution of Irgarol 1051 varied at Klang North Port, Klang South Port, and Pasir Gudang Port, whereas diuron was temporally varied only at Kemaman Port. Furthermore, Irgarol 1051 was spatially varied during November 2011, whereas diuron did not show any significant changes throughout all sampling periods. Ecological risk assessment exhibited a high risk for diuron and Irgarol 1051, but Irgarol 1051 should be of greater concern because of its higher risk compared to that of diuron. Thus, it is recommended that the current Malaysian guidelines and regulations of biocide application should be reevaluated and improved to protect the ecosystem, as well as to prevent ecological risks to the aquatic environment.

Abstract
Changes in the frequency and magnitude of extreme weather events represent one of the key indicators of climate change and variability. These events can have an important impact on mortality rates, especially in the ageing population. This study assessed the spatial and seasonal distributions of mortality rates in mainland Spain and their association with climatic conditions over the period 1979-2016. The analysis was done on a seasonal and annual basis using 79 climatic indices and regional natural deaths data. Results indicate large spatial variability of natural deaths, which is mostly related to how the share of the elderly in the population varied across the studied regions. Spatially, both the highest mortality rates and the largest percentage of elders were found in the northwest areas of the study domain, where an extreme climate prevails, with very cold winters and hot summers. A strong seasonality effect was observed, winter shows more than 10% of natural deaths compared to the rest of the seasons. Also, results suggest a strong relation between climatic indices and natural deaths, albeit with a high spatial and seasonal variability. Climatic indices and natural deaths show a stronger correlation in winter and summer than in spring and autumn.

Abstract
A light absorbing reflectometer was used to calculate black carbon (BC) mass concentrations contained in both fine and coarse particulate matters (PM2.5 and PM2.5-10) collected in an urban area of Yaoundé from 1st March 2018 to 26th February 2019 to highlight BC fluctuation and determine its potential predominant sources. The highest BC concentrations were obtained on 14/02/2019 (5.37 µg/m3) and 17/01/2019 (3.90 µg/m3) whereas the cleanest days were 28/06/2018 (0.01 µg/m3) and 30/06/2018 (0.21 µg/m3) for BC content of PM2.5 and PM2.5-10, respectively. While BC values for BC2.5-10 were only obtained from November 2018 to February 2019 and in the long dry season, those of BC2.5 were obtained for all the seasons. Months, which were most polluted with BC, were January with an average value of 2.34 ± 1.71 µg/m3 and December with 1.65 ± 0.82 µg/m3 whilst the least polluted were September with 0.54 ± 0.33 µg/m3 and August with 0.21 ± 0.10 µg/m3 for BC2.5 and BC2.5-10, respectively. The BC2.5 and BC2.5-10 annual average values were 1.18 ± 0.98 µg/m3 and 0.66 ± 0.39 µg/m3. The annual mean BC contributions were 8.27 ± 5.00% and 6.63 ± 4.49%, respectively, in PM2.5 and PM2.5-10. The BC2.5/PM2.5 percentages varied widely; thus, a complete identification of potential sources of BC was very complex. However, by analogy with other studies, predominant sources were agricultural burn, light-duty gasoline, household wood and charcoal burning sources.

Abstract
The distribution of freshwater and marine microplastics (MPs) varies due to the difference in fresh and seawater densities and MP sources. This study aims to investigate the abundance of MPs and their possible sources in surface waters of different ecosystems, such as sea, lagoon, and lake. We classified MPs in terms of their color and type and established the relationship between the MPs in surface waters with different characteristics. The mean MP abundance (33 particles L-1) detected herein was higher than that in the previously conducted studies. Fragment particles (37.95%) were determined to be the dominant MP type, and the predominant MP color was blue (75.28%). As for the seasonal MP distribution, its highest content (48.03 particles L-1) was observed in autumn, unlike that reported by other studies. The findings of this study reveal the effects of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) discharge and current flow on the MP distribution in the study area. This study aims to provide representative data on the MP abundance and distribution, as well as MP-affecting parameters for similar aquatic areas in other parts of the world.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the seasonal impact on the clinical onset of inflammatory neurological diseases of the central nervous system by analyzing the onset month with information on clinical manifestations in Japanese patients. As a result, patients with anti-aquaporin-4 antibodies (AQP4-IgG)-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) showed spring-summer predominance of the clinical onset. Conversely, patients with anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody (MOG-IgG)-associated disease showed autumn-winter predominance of the clinical onset. Both seasonal variations were irrespective of the clinical manifestation. Environmental factors with seasonal variation influence the development of neurological conditions related to AQP4-IgG and MOG-IgG.

Abstract
Despite the global projections that agriculture will have to feed an additional 3 billion of the world's population in the nearest future, the global trends and negative impacts of nematodes on livestock productivity are still on the increase. Here, we reported the burden of gastrointestinal nematodes in small ruminants in Nigeria. Six thousand, five hundred and eighty one of the 13,259 small ruminants reported in 40 eligible studies across 18 Nigerian States were infected with at least one nematode species, yielding an overall pooled prevalence (PP) of 58.3% (95% CI 48.8, 67.2). Regional PP varied significantly (P < 0.001) and ranged between 19.5 (95% CI 5.8, 48.7) and 83.7% (95% CI 68.5, 92.3). Seasonal PP was higher in the dry (Prev: 56.5%, 95% CI 34.2, 76.4) than the rainy (Prev: 43.2%, 95% CI 26.7, 61.3) season. Haemonchus species were the most prevalent 21.3% while, Trichuris ovis and Strongyloides species had the widest geographic distribution. Several species of nematodes of small ruminants are highly prevalent in Nigeria. An all-inclusive approach involving public education and standardised management practices that involve adequate hygiene and sanitation, strategic and prophylactic use of anthelmintics, rotational grazing and the control of arthropod intermediate hosts will reduce the economic losses due to these parasites and curtail possible transmission to humans.

Abstract
Global climate change is expected to affect temperature and precipitation patterns worldwide, which in turn is likely to affect insect phenology, distribution and diversity. To improve our understanding of such processes, it is important to understand how insects may respond to changes in seasonality, and how these affect their activity, patterns of distribution and species richness. The tropical dry forest (TDF) is a highly seasonal ecosystem, for which two seasons are commonly described (rainy and dry) and there is a lack of information on the combined effect of both precipitation and temperature on the insect communities. In order to evaluate the seasonal patterns in the community of Cerambycidae in a TDF, historical climatic variables were obtained, and an annual sampling of the family was carried out, using three collection techniques. We found that the Cerambycidae family showed a more complex response to climate, than simply the rainy and dry season of the year. The relationship between diversity and composition of cerambycids with changes in temperature and precipitation showed four seasonal communities which were synchronized with phenological processes of the TDF. Climate change could reduce biodiversity, causing seasonal patterns to lose complexity, either because the climatic characteristics of a season disappear and/or because the duration of a season expands, these changes will modify the ecological processes of the TDF, since they would generate changes in the flora and fauna associated with the different seasons.

Abstract
PURPOSE The seasonal distribution patterns of febrile seizures and of respiratory and enteric viral pathogens are similar. In this study, we analyzed trends in febrile seizures and viral infection in Korean children, using big data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA). METHODS We analyzed children younger than 6 years who visited the hospital and were diagnosed with febrile seizures from 2009 to 2016, using medical records in the HIRA database. A total of 666,136 medical records of children with a main or subdiagnosis of febrile seizure from 2008 to 2016 were included. Of these records, patients younger than 1 month and records before 2009 were excluded. Finally, 558,130 records were extracted. RESULTS The medical records included 315,774 male children and 242,356 (43.4%) female children, with a mean age of 2.31 ± 1.31 years. The annual incidence of febrile seizure was 25.4 per 1000 person-years (27.9 for boys and 22.7 for girls). The ratio of male to female children was 1.30: 1, and records of 1-year-old children comprised the highest proportion (n = 210,400, 33.70%). The total monthly number of patients was highest in May (n = 64,969, 11.6%), and peaks were formed from April to July. The fewest patients were seen in October (n = 34,424, 6.17%). The most common viral pathogens were influenza in April and enterovirus during May-July. CONCLUSION The seasonal distribution of febrile seizures was high from late spring to summer, and influenza virus and enterovirus were most frequently associated.

Abstract
The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District has deployed dry ice-baited light traps to monitor mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) populations throughout the Florida Keys starting in 1998. American Biophysics Company traps were deployed throughout the year at the same collection point. Traps were placed in the late afternoon and collected the following morning. Common mosquitoes are the black salt marsh mosquito, Aedes taeniorhynchus (Wiedemann), the crabhole mosquito, Deinocerites cancer Theobald, the Bahamian Culex, Culex bahamensis Dyar and Knab, and Anopheles atropos Dyar and Knab.

Abstract
Background Malaria is a serious public concern in Ethiopia, 75% of the land and 60% of the population are exposed to the disease. The disease has been consistently reported as one of the top three leading causes of outpatient visits, admissions, and deaths among all age group in Ethiopia. However, there is no published data to date regarding the trends of malaria in north western Tigrai, northern Ethiopia. Hence, knowing the trends of malaria prevalence in this area is essential to design appropriate interventions against the disease. Methods Institutional based retrospective study was conducted to determine trends in prevalence of malaria from documented laboratory logbooks at Suhul General Hospital, northwestern Tigrai, northern Ethiopia. All recorded malaria cases from January 2012 to December 2018 were carefully reviewed and analyzed from the laboratory logbooks. Additionally, any malaria intervention activities applied in the area were collected by a checklist. Beside, data related to temperature and rainfalls were collected from metrological office of Shire-endasilasie town. Results During the seven years (2012-2018) data, a total of 71,986 blood films were requested for malaria diagnosis in Suhul Hospital and 5010(6.96%) microscopically confirmed malaria cases reported in the study area with fluctuating trends. Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax were the dominant parasites detected, which accounted (2516; 50.2%, 2181; 43.5%) respectively. However, individuals aged ≥15 years (3628; 72.4%) and male participants (3142, 62.7%) were found highly infected with malaria parasites. Despite the yearly abundance of malaria cases, highest prevalence was reported in autumn (September-November) in the study area. Conclusions Malaria is still a major health dilemma Northwestern Tigrai, Northern Ethiopia. Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax were unmoving predominant parasite reported in the study area. Overall, trend of malaria over the years showed no significant reduction or increment. So, strong scaling up of the community should going on towards transmission, prevention and control activities of malaria in view of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to investigate the viral and bacterial etiology and epidemiology of patients with acute febrile respiratory syndrome (AFRS) in Qinghai using a commercial routine multiplex-ligation-nucleic acid amplification test (NAT)-based assay. METHODS A total of 445 nasopharyngeal swabs specimens from patients with AFRS were analyzed using the RespiFinderSmart22kit (PathoFinder BV, Netherlands) and the LightCycler 480 real-time PCR system. RESULTS Among the 225 (225/445, 51%) positive specimens, 329 positive pathogens were detected, including 298 (90.58%) viruses and 31 (9%) bacteria. The most commonly detected pathogens were influenza virus (IFV; 37.39%; 123/329), adenovirus (AdV; 17.02%; 56/329), human coronaviruses (HCoVs; 10.94%; 36/329), rhinovirus/enterovirus (RV/EV; 10.03%; 33/329), parainfluenza viruses (PIVs; 8.51%; 28/329), and Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M. pneu; 8.51%; 28/329), respectively. Among the co-infected cases (17.53%; 78/445), IFV/AdV and IFV/M. pneu were the most common co-infections. Most of the respiratory viruses were detected in summer and fall. CONCLUSION In our study, IFV-A was the most common respiratory pathogen among 22 detected pathogens, followed by AdV, HCoV, RV/EV, PIV, and M. pneu. Bacteria appeared less frequently than viruses, and co-infection was the most common phenomenon among viral pathogens. Pathogens were distributed among different age groups and respiratory viruses were generally active in July, September, and November. Enhanced surveillance and early detection can be useful in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of AFRS, as well as for guiding the development of appropriate public health strategies.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the seasonal distribution of patient hospitalization due to asthma exacerbation in 7 geographic areas in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study which involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout 7 geographic areas in the mainland of China (northeast, north, central, east, south, northwest and southwest). The numbers of asthmatic patients and total inpatients of the respiratory department of each hospital were recorded. The monthly ratio of asthmatic patients to the total inpatients in every area was calculated and compared. Results: During the study period, 6 480 patients were admitted for asthma exacerbation, accounting for 3.14% of all the 206 135 patients admitted to the respiratory departments in the 29 hospitals. The ratio of asthmatic patients to total inpatients in the northeast area (5.61%) was highest, and the ratio in east area was lowest (1.97%). Statistical analysis showed that the difference among different areas was significant (P<0.000 1). In most areas, both the number and proportion of hospitalized asthmatic patients peaked in spring (February-April) and autumn (September-October). In the northeast area, east area and south area, the peaks in spring were more obvious, while in the north area and southwest area, the peaks in autumn were more obvious. In the northwest area the peaks occurred in winter (December-January) and summer (June-August), respectively. The differences in hospitalization due to asthma among different months were significant in the northeast, north, and southwest areas (P<0.005). Conclusion: The number of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation fluctuated with season in different areas in China. In most areas, more asthmatic patients were admitted to hospitals in spring and autumn.

Abstract
AIMS Incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is increasing worldwide. We aimed to study trends in presentation and incidence of childhood diabetes in the last 15years in south-western Iran. METHODS During a detailed review of compiled records of the main tertiary children's hospital of southwest of Iran, from January 2000 to December 2009, the following clinical information relevant to diabetes were analysed: admissions, demographic data, clinical and laboratory findings, hospital course, and mortality. Study continued 5years more to find out the real rate of increase. Significant findings with respect to the incidence of DKA, gender and age of subjects were summarized from among these cases. A total of 297 (known and new) cases were enrolled in the 1st (10year) stage of study and 691 new subjects in the 2nd (5year) period to check the trend in the whole 15year study period. RESULTS In the 1st period; excluding 129 repeated admissions, 297 cases were enrolled for analysis: 223 new and 74 known cases. Among the new cases, 67.3% presented with DKA, without any gender bias. Mortality rate in DKA subjects was 4% with higher risk in the <2year group and in girls (boy: girl=1:7; p=0.039). Adding the 2nd study period (total 15years) disclosed a rapid rise of incidence (new cases/5year) as 89, 134 and 691 new diabetes cases for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd 5year period of study respectively. The final annual incidence for <15year age group in 2015 was 13.35/100000. CONCLUSIONS The most new cases of T1DM presented with DKA, which is similar to the other developing countries. Such an increasing incidence of DM proposes more attention for periodic retraining of families and health staff to earlier diagnosis and management of new subjects, and to reduce morbidity and mortality rates.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The geographical distribution of ticks on companion animals needs to be monitored to develop and plan effective control measures, as suggested by the European Scientific Counsel on Companion Animal Parasites. The aim of this study was to conduct the first Italian national survey of tick distribution on privately owned dogs. METHODS The study was performed over 20 months (February 2016 - September 2017) and involved 153 veterinary practices in 64 different provinces covering 17/20 (85%) Italian regions. Participating practitioners were asked to examine five different dogs per month at random and complete a questionnaire for each dog. Differences in tick infestation associated with: sex, age and hair length (long and short); the dog's habitat (indoor or outdoor/kennel); and the dog's environment (urban or rural/sylvatic) were evaluated. The attachment site of ticks on the dog was also recorded. Acaricide efficacy was evaluated for the subset of dogs for which complete information on product used, date of sampling and date of last ectoparasiticide treatment was available. RESULTS Of the 3026 dogs examined, 1383 (45.7%) were carrying at least one tick. Overall, 2439 tick samples were collected and a total of 14 tick species identified. Rhipicephalus sanguineus group were the most predominant ticks (63.6%), followed by Ixodes ricinus (30.6%) and I. hexagonus (5.6%). Twenty-four dogs had mixed tick infestations. Long-haired dogs had a higher tick infestation risk as did dogs with outdoor and rural/sylvatic lifestyles. Ticks were located on the head (37.4%), the neck (28.8%), the muzzle (15.5%) and the back (15.3%). A higher prevalence of Rhipicephalus was found in the interdigital spaces (10.8%) compared to Ixodes (0.2%). Finally, ectoparasiticide treatments were found significantly protective against tick infestation, especially orally administered formulations. CONCLUSIONS Privately owned dogs in Italy have a high prevalence (45.7%) of infestation with ixodid ticks and this risk varies by dog phenotype and lifestyle.

Abstract
Surface waters are important to humans because they are a significant water supply source. They are, however, under serious environmental stress and are being threatened as a consequence of developmental activities. The present study describes the physicochemical properties and water quality indices of five different rivers used for drinking and other domestic activities in rural and pre-urban communities in Edo North, Nigeria. The physicochemical variable ranges include pH [wet season (6.47 ± 0.30-6.89 ± 0.11), dry season (6.61 ± 0.14-7.84 ± 0.24)], electrical conductivity (EC) [wet season (3.33 ± 0.57-12.33 ± 2.51 μS/cm), dry season (5.33 ± 0.57-21.33 ± 2.08 μS/cm)], water temperature [wet season (24.23 ± 0.98-25.40 ± 1.15 °C), dry season (26.20 ± 0.55-27.10 ± 0.75 °C)], TDS [wet season (417.00 ± 15.87-433.33 ± 18.50 mg/L), dry season (319.33 ± 16.50-372.66 ± 22.30 mg/L)], turbidity [wet season (1.01 ± 0.11-2.08 ± 0.99 NTU), dry season (3.11 ± 0.01-5.41 ± 0.24 NTU)], and DO [wet season (2.65 ± 0.37-3.99 ± 0.01 mg/L), dry season (2.12 ± 0.11-2.44 ± 0.01 mg/L)]. For the wet and dry seasons, the water quality indices were 120.225 and 585.015 for River Osolo, 119.849 and 445.751 for River Foreign, 200.474 and 587.833 for Ijoh River, 105.261 and 512.498 for Ole River, and 150.114 and 489.992 for Ole Extension River, respectively. The pH was negatively correlated with DO (r = -0.648), and EC was negatively correlated with DO (r = -0.635). Most of the evaluated parameters were within recommended water safety guidelines. However, the water quality index shows that the water quality was very poor and/or unsuitable for drinking and other domestic uses, especially during the dry season. It is suggested that river water be treated prior to its use for drinking and other domestic purposes.

Abstract
The parasitism of Ixodes loricatus Neumann on white-eared opposum, Didelphis albiventris Lund, was analysed in the southern ranges of both. In central Argentina, 118 wild opossums were captured from 2005 to 2012. Adults of I. loricatus were collected (prevalence = 66.1%, mean = 7.03, median = 4), but no immature stage. Tick infestation was not affected by sex (p = 0.27) or age (p = 0.37) of hosts. In line with previous studies about seasonality of larvae and nymphs of I. loricatus, adult tick infestation showed no seasonal trend. This lack of seasonal pattern of infestation for all parasitic stages of I. loricatus may indicate a life cycle governed by nidicolous behaviour, in such a way that this habit would contribute to minimize the influence of external environmental variables. The tick sex ratio was female biased, with two females per one male (p = 0.002). The absence of I. loricatus immatures on D. albiventris suggests that in the study region there is clear segregation of immatures in rodents and adults in marsupials.

Abstract
Shanshan Li, Huili Gao, Xiuqing Hao, Lin Zhu, Ting Li, Hongke Zhang, Yi Zhou, Xinrong Xu, Guang Yang, and Bingyao Chen (2018) Cetacean habitat use based on different environmental phases varies between species and geographies, and little is known about Pacific humpback dolphin habitat use in the Beibu Gulf. Here we aimed to identify seasonal, lunar and tidal influences on the spatial use of Beibu humpback dolphins based on two parameters: water depth and distance to an estuary. The ANOVA test indicated that habitat use was influenced by seasons and tidal phases, but not lunar phases. The humpback dolphins utilized shallow areas near an estuary throughout the wet season and high tides, and moved toward deeper water during the dry season and low tides. This habitat preference is likely synchronized with prey seasonal and tidal movements. The wet season and high tides bring abundant prey resources and increase accessibility to inshore shallow waters for humpback dolphins. The present study provides new information on regular habitat use by Indo- Pacific humpback dolphins, which is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dengue is one of the most important and widespread viral infection comprises 4 related serotypes (DEN-1, 2, 3, and 4). Infection with one serotype does not protect against the others, and sequential infections put people at greater risk for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). This study determines the epidemiology of prevailing viral infections with dengue and molecular characterization of serotype-specific DENV circulation in Odisha of eastern India. METHODS During the year 2013, 1980 blood samples with suspected dengue cases were obtained between days 1-10 of illness and analyzed by NS1 Ag-RDT, NS1 Ag-ELISA, and RT-PCR. The differential detection of dengue infections and DENV serotyping were carried out by IgM/IgG Ab-ELISA and RT-PCR, respectively. RESULTS Of the 1980 samples, 733 (37.0%) were positive for dengue RNA by RT-PCR. The confirmed cases of dengue were more in males (73.6%) in comparing to females (26.4%). The age group of 15-44years (527 cases, 71.9%) were more susceptible to dengue infections. 656 (89.5%) cases had infected with monotypic infection by different DENV serotype and 77 (10.5%) cases had multitypic infections by multiple serotypes of DENV. Of the total multitypic infections, there were 74 (10.1%) cases had infected with DENV-2 and DENV-3 serotypes at a time; and only 3 (0.4%) cases had the concurrent infections of all three serotypes that were, DENV-1, DENV-2, and DENV-3. Of the 28 DHF cases, there were 17 (2.3%) cases had infected with multitypic infections and 11 (1.5%) cases had infected with monotypic infection. CONCLUSION Dengue infections have prevailed from the month of July and grasped it's the peak in September. Rain, temperature and relative humidity have favored the dengue infections. Young adults and males are more susceptible to dengue infections. Serotypes DEN-2 followed by DEN-3 was dominant among the confirmed dengue cases. Co-circulation of multitypic infections with multiple DENV serotypes and the emergence of DHF cases suggested that eastern Indian state Odisha was becoming a hyper-endemic province for dengue; therefore, continuous surveillance is suggested for understanding the epidemiology of the diseases and monitoring the changes in the characteristics of circulating DENV strains.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the seasonal distribution of the clustering of fever and diarrhea. Methods: Concentration degree and circular distribution methods were used to analyze the seasonal distribution of the clustering of fever and diarrhea in Beijing from 2009 to 2015. The information were collected from the Infectious Disease Surveillance Information System of Beijing. Results: The M values of the clustering of fever and diarrhea were 0.57 and 0.47. Circular distribution results showed that the clustering of fever and diarrhea angle dispersion index R values were 0.57 and 0.46 respectively, the sample average angle of Rayleigh' s test Z values were 414.14, 148.09 respectively (all P<0.01). The clustering of fever and diarrhea had seasonality. The incidence peak of fever was on October 13, and the epidemic period was during August 13-December 14. The incidence peak of diarrhea was on July 31, and the epidemic period was during May 20-October 11. Conclusion: The clustering of fever had obvious seasonality in Beijing, which mainly occurred in autumn and winter. The cluster of diarrhea had certain seasonality, which mainly occurred in summer and autumn.

The occurrence and seasonal distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and legacy and current-use pesticides (CUPs) in air were characterized around the Mar Menor lagoon using both active and passive sampling devices. The seasonal distribution of these pollutants was determined at 6 points using passive samplers. Passive sampler sampling rates were estimated for all detected analytes using an active sampler, considering preferentially winter data, due to probable losses in active sampling during summer (high temperatures and solar irradiation). The presence of 28 compounds (14 CUPs, 11 PAHs and 3 organochlorinated pesticides) were detected in air by polyurethane passive sampling. The most commonly detected contaminants (>95% of samples) in air were chlorpyrifos, chlorpyrifos-methyl and phenanthrene. The maximum concentrations corresponded to phenanthrene (6000 pg m-3) and chlorpyrifos (4900 pg m-3). The distribution of contaminants was spatially and seasonally heterogeneous. The highest concentrations of PAHs were found close to the airport, while the highest concentrations of pesticides were found in the influence area of agricultural fields (western stations). PAH and herbicide concentrations were higher in winter than in the other seasons, although some insecticides such as chlorpyrifos were more abundant in autumn. The presence of PAHs and legacy and current-use pesticides in air confirmed their transference potential to marine coastal areas such as the Mar Menor lagoon.

Abstract
Background Animal trypanosomosis is a major economic disease in Nigeria causing considerable morbidity and mortality in livestock. Despite reports in other animals, the disease is under reported in pigs. Methods We conducted a community based epidemiological study on African animal trypanosomosis in Karim Lamido area of Taraba State, Nigeria using species-specific PCR on 712 pigs and 706 of the 2822 captured tsetse flies. Data were analysed using Chi-square, odds ratio and multivariate analysis at 95 % confidence interval. Results Overall prevalence of porcine trypanosomosis was 16.6 % and ranged between 2.0 and 8.8 % across Trypanosoma species. Seasonal distribution of porcine trypanosomosis varied significantly (χ2 = 16.62, df = 3, P = 0.0008) ranging between 7.9 and 23.6 % across seasons. Mixed infections involving T. b. brucei, T. congolense forest and T. congolense savannah recorded infection rates ranging between 2.5 and 9.3 %. There were significant variations between the trypanosome infection rates in relation to age (χ2 = 7.629, df = 1, P = 0.0057, OR = 1.932, 95 % CI = 1.203–3.100), sex (χ2 = 10.09, df = 1, P = 0.0015, OR = 2.085, 95 % CI = 1.315–3.304) and body condition (χ2 = 22.10, df = 2, P < 0.0001) of pigs ranging between 10.4 and 30.3 %. Tsetse infection rates were 11.2 % (79/706) for Glossina palpalis and 6.8 % (48/706) for G. tachinoides yielding an overall infection rate of 18.0 %. Conclusion Trypanosoma species are prevalent in the study area with similar distribution patterns in both pigs and tsetse flies. Late rainy season, adults, females and pigs with poor body condition recorded higher trypanosome infection rates. Of the three Trypanosoma spp. identified, T. b. brucei showed predominance.

Abstract
Chenab River is one of the most important rivers of Punjab Province (Pakistan) that receives huge input of industrial effluents and municipal sewage from major cities in the Central Punjab, Pakistan. The current study was designed to evaluate the concentration levels and associated ecological risks of USEPA priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the surface sediments of Chenab River. Sampling was performed from eight (n = 24) sampling stations of Chenab River and its tributaries. We observed a relatively high abundance of ∑16PAHs during the summer season (i.e. 554 ng g(-1)) versus that in the winter season (i.e. 361 ng g(-1)), with an overall abundance of two-, five- and six-ring PAH congeners. Results also revealed that the nitrate and phosphate contents in the sediments were closely associated with low molecular weight (LMW) and high molecular weight (HMW) PAHs, respectively. Source apportionment results showed that the combustion of fossil fuels appears to be the key source of PAHs in the study area. The risk quotient (RQ) values indicated that seven PAH congeners (i.e. phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo(a)pyrene, chrysene and benzo(a)anthracene) could pose serious threats to the aquatic life of the riverine ecosystem in Pakistan.

Abstract
Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) are the most common agents of diarrhea. Waterborne DEC could pose a potential health risk to human through agricultural, household, recreational, and industrial use. There are few published reports on the detection of DEC and its seasonal distribution in aquatic environments. The presence of DEC in different types of aquatic environments was investigated in this study. Water samples were collected from major rivers, water reservoirs, and recreational hot springs throughout Taiwan. Moreover, an intensive water sampling plan was carried out along Puzih River. The detection of DEC target genes was used to determine the presence of enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). Among the 383 water samples analyzed, DEC was found in 122 (31.8%) samples. The detection rate varied by genotype, raging from 3.6% for STEC to 17.2% for EPEC. The DEC detection rate was higher from river waters than reservoirs and hot springs. In addition, DEC was detected at a higher rate in spring and summer. The presence of EPEC was significantly associated with total coliform levels among hot spring samples. Moreover, the presence of ETEC in river water samples was associated with heterotrophic plate counts. Water with EPEC differed significantly in pH from Puzih River samples. These results suggest that seasonal characteristics may affect the presence of DEC in different aquatic environments, and water quality indicators may be indicative of the presence of DEC.

Abstract
Trace metal pollution was studied in water, sediment and three selected bivalves in Mandovi and Chapora estuaries of Goa. The trace metal in water and sediment of Mandovi was higher than in Chapora. The concentration in the tissues was in the range of 1205.2-2506.7 ppm for Paphia malabarica, 1906.2-2802.6 ppm for Perna viridis and 778.7-1607.5 ppm for Saccostrea cucullata in Mandovi estuary. Tha values for Chapora were 199.4-625.8 ppm for P. malabarica, 812.6-1220.2 for P. viridis and 392.5-418.6 ppm for S. cucullata. The anthropogenic input of metal in Mandovi estuary appears to be mainly responsible for the high accumulation of trace metals. These bivalves have potential to serve as indicator for metal contamination in seafood of Goa.

Abstract
The distribution of the zooplankton community was studied along with environmental factors at five sampling stations in Ghar El Melh Lagoon (GML) (Mediterranean Sea, northern Tunisia). GML is characterized by specific following properties: broad and shallow, freshwater supply (Station 1); connection to the sea (S2); stagnation (S3 especially), and eutrophic conditions with enhanced nutrient concentrations (S4 and S5). Samples were taken twice monthly from February 2011 to January 2012. Twenty-three zooplankton groups comprising 10 larval stages were identified. Zooplankton assemblages were largely dominated by copepods (37.25%), followed respectively by ciliates (21.09%), bivalve larvae (14.88%) and gastropod veligers (12.53%). Redundancy analysis indicated that while no significant difference was found in the distribution of zooplankton at any station, a strong difference was observed according to season. Both temporal and physicochemical fluctuations explain more than 50% of changes in zooplankton abundances.

Abstract
The formation and distribution of oxygen-deficient water mass (ODW) in Jinhae Bay exhibited seasonal patterns similar to those of the summer thermocline, indicating a close mutual relationship, and the influence of ODW formation conditions appeared prominently in the bottom water. The principal factors analysis indicate that dissolved oxygen and NO2 in the bottom water during the time of ODW formation were highly correlated with NH3 and dissolved inorganic phosphorus. The findings clearly illustrate the effects on ODW of seasonal physical and chemical changes. ODW that formed in the bottom water of Jinhae Bay during summer produced high concentrations of nutrients in the bottom water; since the growth of phytoplankton was limited by the strong stratification and low concentrations of dissolved oxygen (<3mg/L) in the bottom layer, these nutrients (especially NH3 and DIP) were retained and accumulated, serving as a major source of nutrients during the dry winter.

Abstract
Semi-continental monitoring of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM), particulate mercury (Hgp), and reactive gaseous mercury (RGM) was conducted in the Institute of Urban Environment, CAS in Xiamen, China from March 2012 to February 2013. The average concentrations and relative standard deviations (RSD) were 3.50 (34.6%) ng m(-3), 174.41 (160.9%) pg m(-3), and 61.05 (113.7%) pg m(-3) for GEM, Hgp, and RGM, respectively. The higher concentrations of GEM and Hgp were observed in spring and winter months, indicating the combustion source, while RGM showed the different seasonal variation with highest concentration in spring and the minimum value in winter. The concentrations of Hg species were generally elevated in nighttime and low in daytime to reflect the diurnal changes in meteorology, especially the mixing condition of the air masses. The high Hg concentrations were observed in SWW-NW sectors due to calm wind while the low levels in NE-SE due to high speed wind, and the amplitude was much larger for Hgp and RGM. Backward trajectories calculation indicated that summer air masses were much more from ocean with lower Hg while the air masses were mainly from inland area in other seasons. Principal component analysis suggested that combustion and road traffic emissions were the dominant anthropogenic mercury sources for the study area, and the temporal distribution of atmospheric mercury was mainly the result of climatological change.

Abstract
We investigated the spatial and temporal distribution of blackfly larvae on a mesohabitat scale atfour different breeding sites in the Brazilian savannah "Cerrado." A total of 2,385 larvae of 12 different species were collected, and three of the sampling sites revealedspecies richness and diversity peaks in April. A principal components analysis was performed to reduce abiotic data into a smaller set of independent variables, such as precipitation and river size, and subsequent linear regressions showed that Simulium subpallidum was positively correlated with precipitation. This species, along with S. nigrimanum, was negatively correlated withriver size, whereasS. perflavum was negatively correlated with precipitation. Beta diversity was negatively correlated withprecipitation, and black fly taxocenoses were markedly different between wet and dry seasons, as shown through nonmetric multidimensional scaling, suggesting that precipitation playsa major role in structuring these communities, probably because of enhanced drift and the dendritic nature of lotic metacommunities.
