Abstract
Oxidative stress is closely related to various diseases. Ozone can produce redox reactions through its unique response. As a source of the oxidative stress response, the strong oxidizing nature of ozone can cause severe damage to the body. On the other hand, low ozone concentrations can activate various mechanisms to combat oxidative stress and achieve therapeutic effects. Some animal experiments and clinical studies have revealed the potential medical value of ozone, indicating that ozone is not just a toxic gas. By reviewing the mechanism of ozone and its therapeutic value in treating central nervous system diseases (especially ischemic stroke and Alzheimer's disease) and the toxic effects of ozone, we find that ozone inhalation and a lack of antioxidants or excessive exposure lead to harmful impacts. However, with adequate antioxidants, ozone can transmit oxidative stress signals, reduce inflammation, reduce amyloid β peptide levels, and improve tissue oxygenation. Similar mechanisms to those of possible new drugs for treating ischemic stroke and Alzheimer's disease indicate the potential of ozone. Nevertheless, limited research has restricted the application of ozone. More studies are needed to reveal the exact dose-effect relationship and healing effect of ozone.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the effects of ozone therapy applied topically and/or by bagging on the healing of clean wounds induced in rat's skin. METHODS One hundred and twenty male rats of about 16 weeks old was divided into five groups: G1) saline solution (0.9%); G2) sunflower oil; G3) ozonated sunflower oil; G4) ozone bagging; G5) association of ozonated sunflower oil and ozone bagging. The wounds were evaluated through macroscopic, morphometric, histopathologic, and tensile strength analyses. RESULTS Analysis among groups showed a lower percentage of wound contraction in G1 compared to G4 only in M7D. The tensile strength of the wounds showed differences among groups in the seventh (M7D) and the 14th (M14D) postoperative day, and among time points in G1 (M14D > M7D). The elongation of the wounds showed differences in G3 (M7D > M14D). Histological evaluation of the wounds showed significant change in bleeding, mixed to mononuclear infiltrate, congestion, and tissue disorganization for tissue organization between groups and time points. CONCLUSIONS Ozone therapy applied topically and/or by bagging was not deleterious to the healing of clean wounds induced in rat's skin, but ozone bagging showed the best contribution to the healing process.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Sepsis and its related complications are associated with high morbidity and mortality, often leading to liver damage. Ozone, a molecule with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, may offer protective effects. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic and protective impact of ozone on liver injury in a rat model of sepsis induced by cecal ligation and perforation (CLP). Material and Methods: A total of 36 rats were randomly divided into five groups: control (Group C), ozone (Group O), cecal ligation and perforation (Group CLP), ozone + cecal ligation and perforation (Group O+CLP), and cecal ligation and perforation + ozone (Group CLP+O). In the ozone groups, 4 mL of ozone (20 µ/mL) was injected intraperitoneally. Biochemical and histopathological parameters were evaluated in liver tissue samples obtained at the end of 24 h. Results: Polymorphonuclear leukocyte and monocyte infiltration and the total injury score were significantly reduced in the ozone-treated groups compared to the CLP group (p < 0.001). Tumor necrosis factor and interleukin 10 levels in the rat liver tissue were significantly reduced in the O+CLP and CLP+O groups compared to the CLP group, with the O+CLP group showing a more substantial decrease than the CLP+O group (p < 0.001). Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and glutathione s-transferase levels were significantly lower in the ozone-treated groups compared to the CLP group (p < 0.001). Catalase activity was significantly elevated in the O+CLP group compared to the CLP group (p < 0.001). Serum aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, gamma-glutamyl transferase, and total bilirubin were significantly increased in the CLP group and decreased in the ozone-treated groups (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p = 0.01, p < 0.001 respectively). Conclusions: Administering ozone to rats one hour before the CLP significantly mitigated liver damage, showing a more pronounced effect compared to administering ozone one hour after CLP. The results indicate that ozone could serve a protective function in managing sepsis-induced liver damage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Traumatic brain injury is a kind of injury caused by external violence on the head. Its danger is not limited to life rescue in the early stage of the disease. Moreover, the subsequent inflammatory reaction and the change in its oxidative stress level will cause secondary myocardial injury. The purpose of this study is to explore the myocardial protective effect of ozone autohemotherapy (OA) in the progression of acute traumatic brain injury (TBI). METHODS Forty patients with acute TBI were recruited and divided into The treatment group (Group OA, n = 18) and the Control group (Group C, n = 19). Patients in Group OA received OA before surgery and on the 1st and 2nd postoperative days, while patients in Group C underwent autologous blood transfusion. Venous blood was collected from all patients before (T0) and after 7 days (T1) days of surgery for measurement of cardiac troponin T (cTnT) and amino-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). At T0 and T1, transthoracic cardiac ultrasound was performed to measure left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), and venous blood was sampled to determine the contents of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA). NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores were calculated, and other clinical indexes were recorded. RESULTS (1) The levels of cTnT at T1 were significantly higher as compared with that at T0 in both groups (p < 0.01). Compared with Group C, a remarkable decline in the content of NT-proBNP was found in Group OA at T1 (p = 0.021). (2) The LVEF (p = 0.002) and serum SOD (p = 0.015) at T1 were significantly increased in Group OA as compared with those in Group C. (3) The length of Intensive Care Unit and hospitalization time for patients in Group OA was distinctly shorter than that for patients in Group C (p = 0.021, p = 0.015, respectively). CONCLUSION Perioperative OA treatment can alleviate the secondary myocardial injury during the disease course of TBI, which might be associated with its myocardial protective effect against oxidative stress. TRIAL REGISTRATION This study was approved by the Ethical Committee of Changzhou NO.2 People's Hospital. The protocol was registered prospectively with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2000029612) on February 02, 2020.

Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the effects of nano-ozone solution (NZS) on canine oocyte nuclear maturation, associated with the alterations of antioxidant and oxidant status and cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1), cyclin B1 gene expressions. Oocytes were cultured in four distinct concentrations of NZS (0.5, 1, 2, and 5 µg/mL) and parthenogenetically activated. The rates of oocytes arrested at the Germinal Vesicle (GV), Germinal Vesicle Breakdown (GVBD), Metaphase I (MI), and Metaphase II (MII) stages were statistically different among groups (P < 0.05). The oocytes cultured in 1 µg/mL NZS yielded the best oocyte maturation rate at the MI and MII stages; however, the lowest maturation and high degeneration rates were observed in Group E. The measurements of Malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced Glutathione (GSH), Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), and Ferric Reducing/Antioxidant Power assay (FRAP) were performed from IVM culture media. No statistical difference was observed in SOD and MDA results (P > 0.05). GSH levels were statistically significant between Group A-Group E (p = 0.003), Group B-Group E (p = 0.045), and Group E-Group D (p = 0.021). The culture media in Group D and Group E had high FRAP concentrations and significantly differed between groups (P < 0.05). CDK1, and cyclin B1 genes, which are subunits of maturation-promoting factor (MPF), are upregulated in Group B and Group C, while are downregulated in oocytes of Group E. This study showed that low, controlled doses of NZS (1 µg/mL) supplementation could improve the meiotic competence of canine oocytes and lead to positive response in expressions of CDK1 and cyclin B1 on the gene level.

Abstract
Two studies were conducted to evaluate the use of medical ozone (O3) in commercial extenders for equine semen cryopreservation. In the first study (Study 1), 0, 5, and 15 µg/mL of O3 were added to diluents of refrigerated or frozen semen. Samples were evaluated for sperm kinematics at different time points for the chilled samples and after a thermoresistence test for the frozen/thawed samples. In the second study (Study 2), 0, 5, and 10 µg/mL of O3 were added to an antibiotic-free diluent for refrigerated semen for comparison with the control group in which semen was diluted in the same diluent enriched with antibiotics. Semen sample kinematics were analyzed and an aliquot was collected after ozonification for bacteriological analyses. For Study 1 no difference was found comparing all the kinematic parameters analyzed over time, in the various treatments (P > 0.05). In Study 2 the absence of antibiotics did not affect the kinematic parameters compared to the control (P > 0.05). However when antibiotics were added, a smaller number of bacterial colony-forming units were detected compared to samples without antibiotics and without or with different O3 supplementations. In conclusion, O3 treatment at low dosages did not affect the semen kinematics, although it was ineffective in preventing bacterial overgrowth. Higher O3 concentrations should be evaluated to explore the possibility of reducing the use of antibiotics in equine sperm conservation.

Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to examine the effect of varying ozone doses on proinflammatory cytokine levels in the synovial fluid collected from individuals with knee osteoarthritis. Patients and methods The controlled clinical trial was conducted with 82 patients (61 females, 21 males; mean age: 63.1±10.0 years; range, 40 to 73 years) between 21 April 2023 and 20 May 2023. Synovial fluid samples were collected from the patients under ultrasound guidance and divided into three tubes, one of which was not injected with ozone, and the other two were injected with 10 and 30 gamma (γ) ozone, respectively. The total antioxidant status, total oxidant status, oxidative stress index, interleukin (IL)-1 beta (β), IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in the joint fluids were measured. Results The oxidative stress index and IL-1 β, IL-6, and TNF-α levels in the synovial fluid were lower at 10 and 30 γ compared to 0 and 10 γ, respectively. In vitro ozone injection at 30 gamma was more effective in reducing proinflammatory cytokines in the synovial fluid than that at 10 and 0 γ. Ozone injection into the pathological joint fluid was more effective in terms of total antioxidant status at 10 and 30 γ compared to 0 and 10 γ, respectively. No significant difference in total oxidant status was observed between the groups. Conclusion This study showed that in vitro ozone injection at 30 γ was more effective in reducing proinflammatory cytokines in the synovial fluid and in improving total antioxidant status than that at 10 and 0 γ. The results showed the potential significance of the ozone injection dosage in treating knee osteoarthritis.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW There are significant differences in the transmission rate and mortality rate of COVID-19 under environmental conditions such as seasons and climates. However, the impact of environmental factors on the role of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transmission mechanism of the SARS-CoV-2 is unclear. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the impact of environmental factors on COVID-19 can provide innovative insights for global epidemic prevention and control policies and COVID-19 related research. This review summarizes the evidence of the impact of different natural and social environmental factors on the transmission of COVID-19 through a comprehensive analysis of epidemiology and mechanism research. This will provide innovative inspiration for global epidemic prevention and control policies and provide reference for similar infectious diseases that may emerge in the future. RECENT FINDINGS Evidence reveals mechanisms by which natural environmental factors influence the transmission of COVID-19, including (i) virus survival and transport, (ii) immune system damage, (iii) inflammation, oxidative stress, and cell death, and (iiii) increasing risk of complications. All of these measures appear to be effective in controlling the spread or mortality of COVID-19: (1) reducing air pollution levels, (2) rational use of ozone disinfection and medical ozone therapy, (3) rational exposure to sunlight, (4) scientific ventilation and maintenance of indoor temperature and humidity, (5) control of population density, and (6) control of population movement. Our review indicates that with the continuous mutation of SARS-CoV-2, high temperature, high humidity, low air pollution levels, and low population density more likely to slow down the spread of the virus.

Abstract
At low medically-relevant concentrations, ozone serves as an oxidant with a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity and the ability to promote healing and reduce inflammation. Despite providing therapeutic benefits in a range of diseases, certain adverse effects and contraindications of ozone treatment must be considered. These are primarily related to toxicity from inhalation and systemic types of administration and can be avoided by following relevant guidelines and recommendations. Ozone therapy has been implemented in a number of fields of dentistry and the most commonly used formulations for the oral cavity are gaseous ozone, ozonized water and ozonized oil. The biological mechanisms underlying the molecular effects of ozone have been increasingly reported, but currently remain largely unknown. The aim of the present review was to provide an overview of the mechanisms involved in ozone interaction with dental tissues. The present review focused on relevant evidence regarding the effect of ozone on dental tissues, including periodontal structures, dental cells, enamel and dentine, considering in vitro studies in addition to animal and human studies. A variety of biological mechanisms acting through multiple biochemical target pathways were reported to be responsible for the therapeutic effects of ozone. The main beneficial effects of ozone occurred in the following domains: antimicrobial activity, remineralization and microstructural changes of hard dental tissues, immunomodulation and biostimulation of dental and periodontal cells. Additional research could provide further insights into the use of ozone, increase its use for broader clinical applications and assist in the selection of targeted protocols.

Abstract
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been found to be a common complication in pregnant women, known to escalate the risk of negative obstetric outcomes. In our study, we genotyped 1,566 Chinese pregnant women for two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the LINGO2 gene and one SNP in the GLIS3 gene, utilizing targeted next-generation sequencing. The impact of two interacting genes, and the interaction of genes with the environment─including exposure to particulate matter (PM2.5), ozone (O3), and variations in prepregnancy body mass index (BMI)─on the incidence of GDM were analyzed using logistic regression. Our findings identify the variants LINGO2 rs10968576 (P = 0.022, OR = 1.224) and rs1412239 (P = 0.018, OR = 1.231), as well as GLIS3 rs10814916 (P = 0.028, OR = 1.172), as risk mutations significantly linked to increased susceptibility to GDM. Further analysis underscores the crucial role of gene-gene and gene-environment interactions in the development of GDM among Chinese women (P < 0.05). Particularly, the individuals carrying the rs10968576 G-rs1412239 G-rs10814916 C haplotype exhibit increased susceptibility to GDM during the prepregnancy period when interacting with PM2.5, O3, and BMI (P = 8.004 × 10-7, OR = 1.206; P = 6.3264 × 10-11, OR = 1.280; P = 9.928 × 10-7, OR = 1.334, respectively). In conclusion, our research emphasizes the importance of the interaction between specific gene variations─LINGO2 and GLIS3─and environmental factors in influencing GDM risk. Notably, we found significant associations between these gene variations and GDM risk across various environmental exposure periods.

Abstract
Ozone therapy is a complementary treatment that has gained popularity due to its safety and wide range of applications. Systemic ozone therapy involves withdrawing 100 to 200 ml of blood, treating it with an oxygen-ozone mixture, and then reinfusing it. This process requires large-caliber venous access, which can be a limitation. To overcome this, alternative administration methods have been explored, including the use of ozonized solutions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical effects of systemic ozone therapy on the perception of quality of life and to analyze the outcomes of different administration methods. Three groups of patients were treated: one group received classical systemic ozone therapy, another received ozone therapy via intravenous infusion of a 5% glucose solution, and the third group alternated between the two methods. The results showed an improvement in perceived quality of life in all groups, regardless of the method used. Thus, systemic ozone therapy showed efficacy in improving the perception of quality of life in our group. Moreover, intravenous infusion of a 5% glucose solution has made it possible to treat patients who could not be treated with the classical method, achieving similar results.

Abstract
Chronic non-healing wounds are a common consequence of skin ulceration in diabetic patients, with severe cases such as diabetic foot even leading to amputations. The interplay between pathological factors like hypoxia-ischemia, chronic inflammation, bacterial infection, impaired angiogenesis, and accumulation of advanced glycosylation end products (AGEs), resulting from the dysregulation of the immune microenvironment caused by hyperglycemia, establishes an unending cycle that hampers wound healing. However, there remains a dearth of sufficient and effective approaches to break this vicious cycle within the complex immune microenvironment. Consequently, numerous scholars have directed their research efforts towards addressing chronic diabetic wound repair. In recent years, gases including Oxygen (O2), Nitric oxide (NO), Hydrogen (H2), Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), Ozone (O3), Carbon monoxide (CO) and Nitrous oxide (N2O), along with gas-releasing materials associated with them have emerged as promising therapeutic solutions due to their ability to regulate angiogenesis, intracellular oxygenation levels, exhibit antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects while effectively minimizing drug residue-induced damage and circumventing drug resistance issues. In this review, we discuss the latest advances in the mechanisms of action and treatment of these gases and related gas-releasing materials in diabetic wound repair. We hope that this review can provide different ideas for the future design and application of gas therapy for chronic diabetic wounds.

Abstract
Knee osteoarthritis (knee OA), commonly known as gonarthrosis, is a chronic pathology involving knee at the joint level causing progressive pain, stiffness and difficulty in ambulation and leg movements. So far in situ infiltration therapies such as platelet rich plasma, conditioned autologous serum or hyaluronic acid, provided some encouraging though limited hopes for a routinely recommended therapy for knee OA. Recent clinical successful observations about the use of whole autologous blood ozonated with a calibrated mixture of oxygen and ozone, has promoted the present research study, in order to treat knee OA. A number of 250 patients suffering with knee OA of different Ahlback scores, were treated with infiltration of ozonated blood and evaluated for their WOMAC and Lequesne indexes, pre- and post-treatment, to evaluate pain, disability and stiffness. Patients recovered about 50% of their health status, reducing pain, stiffness and disability by only 5 sessions, one/week, with 20 μg/ml O3 ozonated autologous blood knee infiltrations. The evidence asks for further supporting results yet encourages our efforts to go ahead in this research issue. Key Points •The oxygen-ozone therapy via ozonated blood infiltration was used in this study. •Ozone reduced pain, disability, and stiffness in both female and male patients. •The treatment with ozone improved WOMAC both in type I and type II Ahlback knee OA. •The oxygen-ozone therapy via ozonated blood ameliorated Lequesne functional index.

Abstract
Under long-standing threat of seasonal influenza outbreaks, it remains imperative to understand the drivers of influenza dynamics which can guide mitigation measures. While the role of absolute humidity and temperature is extensively studied, the possibility of ambient ozone (O3) as an environmental driver of influenza has received scant attention. Here, using state-level data in the USA during 2010-2015, we examined such research hypothesis. For rigorous causal inference by evidence triangulation, we applied 3 distinct methods for data analysis: Convergent Cross Mapping from state-space reconstruction theory, Peter-Clark-momentary-conditional-independence plus as graphical modeling algorithms, and regression-based Generalised Linear Model. The negative impact of ambient O3 on influenza activity at 1-week lag is consistently demonstrated by those 3 methods. With O3 commonly known as air pollutant, the novel findings here on the inhibition effect of O3 on influenza activity warrant further investigations to inform environmental management and public health protection.

Abstract
CONTEXT Osteitis pubis (OP), which occurs as a result of excessive use of the symphysis pubis and parasymphysis bones, is more common in long-distance runners and kicking athletes, especially football players. Due to the poor results of commonly used treatments for OP, there is a need for investigation of more effective treatments, such as ozone therapy. Ozone therapy is used to treat a variety of diseases, including musculoskeletal conditions. CASE PRESENTATION A 30-year-old amateur soccer player diagnosed with OP received conservative treatment with traditional physiotherapy and analgesic medications. After 6 months and no resolution of symptoms, the patient presented to the sports medicine outpatient clinic seeking alternative therapy options. MANAGEMENT AND OUTCOMES The patient received ozone injections in 3 sessions administered at 10-day intervals. At 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the treatment, the patient's complaints and pain levels were re-evaluated and examined. The patient was able to return to competition at the same level after the first injection. No recurrence was revealed at a minimum of 12 months of follow-up. CONCLUSION In this article, we present a case in which OP was successfully treated with ozone injection.

Abstract
PURPOSE Trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis (TMC-OA) is a prevalent hand disorder affecting a growing number of people worldwide. While a multidisciplinary approach might provide additional advantages, the analgesic and anti-inflammatory role of intra-articular oxygen-ozone (O2O3) injections combined with physical therapy is still unknown. To assess the impact of a multimodal therapeutic approach combining O2O3 injections with physical therapy in patients with TMC-OA. MATERIALS AND METHODS A prospective open-label study conducted in the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Unit of the "Renato Dulbecco" University Hospital of Catanzaro. We assessed patients with TMC-OA who had not responded to standard medical therapy. Participants received O2O3 therapy and targeted physical therapy for 4 weeks. Pain relief, muscle strength, and physical functioning were assessed at baseline and after 4, 12 and 24 weeks (respectively T0, T1, T2, and T3). RESULTS Seventeen patients with a mean age of 67.1 ± 6.1 years were included in the study. Short-term improvements in pain intensity were observed (T0: 6.221 ± 1.514; T1: 3.172 ± 1.1451; p < .001) and were maintained over a 24-week follow-up period (T0: 6.221 ± 1.514; T3: 4.393 ± 1.438; p: 0.006). Significant changes were reported also in terms of muscle strength and physical functioning. O2O3 therapy was well-tolerated with no adverse effects. CONCLUSIONS A combination of O2O3 injections and physical therapy might be considered in patients with TMC-OA. Further investigation is warranted to assess the effectiveness of O2O3 therapy in managing TMC-OA.

Abstract
Infectious endometritis is considered one of the major causes of infertility and it can affect up to 60% of barren mares. It is characterized by the presence of one or more microorganisms in the reproductive tract and it is treated with the administration of antibiotics, ecbolic agents and uterine lavages. Ozone, thanks to its antimicrobial properties that are based on its high oxidative potential, could represent an effective alternative treatment for endometritis. The aim of this study was to test in vitro the bactericidal and fungicidal properties of different ozone formulations, either as gas (experiment 1) or dissolved in two liquid matrices (experiment 2), specifically distilled water or oil (Neozone 4000, Cosmoproject, Parma, Italy), onto 6 different species of microorganisms isolated from mares with clinical endometritis, namely Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus equi subsp. Zooepidemicus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Candida albicans. In the first experiment, 3 clinical antibiotic-resistant strains per each species were exposed to different conditions: to O2O3 gas mixtures (15 and 40 μg/ml for 1, 3 and 5 min), to 100 % O2 or left untreated. The results showed a reduction of the microbial count of over 99,9% for every pathogen, time and concentration of O2O3 gas mixtures tested. Furthermore, gaseous ozone showed both a time-dependant effect (5 vs 3 vs 1 min of exposure) and a concentration-dependant effect (40 vs 15 μg/ml) at 1 and 3 min, while after 5 min no differences were observed. In the second experiment, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration (MBC, MFC) of ozonated distilled water and ozonated oil were evaluated. Ozonated oil showed a bactericidal/fungicidal activity against all the strains tested (MIC range 12.5-25 % v/v, MBC/MFC range 12.5-50 % v/v) while ozonated distilled water didn't show an observable antimicrobial effect, discouraging its use as an antimicrobial agent for the treatment of endometritis. The results of this in vitro study indicate that both gaseous ozone and ozonated oil exerted remarkable antimicrobial activities and are promising alternative treatments for infectious endometritis, even when caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and encourage further experiments in an effort to scale down or even prevent the use of antibiotics in equine reproduction.

Abstract
The present study aimed to monitor the practices of European veterinarians for the diagnosis and treatment of retained fetal membranes in cattle. A questionnaire was established and distributed to veterinarians from five European countries. A total of 700 veterinarians participated in the survey. A vaginal examination, general examination and uterine palpation are carried out by 71%, 38% and 23% of veterinarians, respectively. Moreover, half of the veterinarians attempt to remove the placenta manually, 70% of them administer a combined local and general treatment if the cow has a fever (more than 39.5 °C), and 50% of them only administer IU treatment if no fever is observed. Tetracyclins, cefapirin and penicillins are the most used intrauterine (IU) antibiotics, whereas penicillin is the most used parenteral one. All other European veterinarians were less likely to use cefapirin and more likely to use oxytocin, Ca perfusion and NSAID than French and Walloon veterinarians. In conclusion, our study confirms the necessity of improving and rationalizing the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of the RFM, mainly to reduce the important problem of antibiotic resistance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported the impact of ambient air pollutants on assisted reproduction. They concentrated on highly polluted environments and individual pollutants. It is unclear whether these effects continue at lower levels and as mixed effects. We aimed to study the influence of lower pollutant concentrations on pregnancy rates and identify vulnerable populations. METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study involving 9465 patients with infertility who received treatment from a local hospital between 2015 and 2021. Daily average levels of six pollutants (PM2.5, PM10, NO2, CO, SO2, and O3) were collected from air quality monitoring stations. We employed generalized linear regression models (logistic, linear, and lasso), weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression, and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) to assess the impact of pollutants on pregnancy rates. Additionally, stratified analyses were performed to identify potentially vulnerable populations. RESULTS Findings from the generalized linear models revealed a significant negative correlation between interquartile range increment exposure to PM2.5 (OR = 1.17, 95 % CI = 1.09-1.26), PM10 (OR = 1.18, 95 % CI = 1.11-1.26), NO2 (OR = 1.21, 95 % CI = 1.13-1.30), CO (OR = 1.02, 95 % CI = 1.00-1.03), SO2 (OR = 1.11, 95 % CI = 1.05-1.17) and pregnancy rate when considering the effects of individual pollutants. The WQS index exhibited a negative correlation with pregnancy rates and the number of oocytes retrieved (aOR = 1.20, 95 % CI = 1.08-1.34). BKMR analyses indicated an overall significant trend of decreasing pregnancy rates as pollutant concentrations increased across percentiles. Stratified analysis unveiled heightened sensitivity to pollutants among individuals aged ≥35 years. CONCLUSIONS By comparing results obtained from diverse models, we observed that exposure to lower levels of air pollutants led to decreased pregnancy rates. Notably, PM10, NO2, SO2, and CO emerged as the four most prominent pollutants in this context. Moreover, stratified analyses highlighted that individuals aged ≥35 years exhibited heightened susceptibility to pollutants.

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer in women. Despite significant advances in conventional treatment, additional safer complementary treatment options are needed. Recently, ozone therapy has been considered as a type of medical adjunctive treatment that could inhibit cancer cell survival and reduce chemoresistance. However, only a few studies have been conducted on its use in breast cancer, and the optimal dosage and time of administration are unknown. Currently, preclinical studies suggest that ozone alone or in combination with chemotherapy is an effective method for inhibiting breast cancer cell growth. However, rather than investigating the effects of ozone as an antitumor therapy, current clinical trials have generally assessed its effect as an adjunctive therapy for reducing chemotherapy-induced side effects, increasing oxygen tension, normalizing blood flow, restoring blood lymphocytes more rapidly, and reducing fatigue symptoms. In this article, the use of ozone as a medical adjunctive treatment for breast cancer and its role in integrative therapy are summarized and discussed.

Abstract
The most commonly studied method of administering ozone therapy is systemic ozone therapy. However, there may be situations where this method is not feasible due to technical issues, such as poor vein condition or anemia. As an alternative method, pre-ozonized solutions, such as 0.9% saline solution, have been investigated for their ease of preparation and administration. However, concerns have been raised regarding the formation of chlorine compounds. Currently, there is no available literature on the treatment potential of pre-ozonized glucose solution. The objective of this study is to compare and evaluate the chemical changes induced by ozonization of a 5% glucose solution and determine if any toxic compounds are produced. Our findings indicate that the chemical alterations following ozone infusion are quantitatively minimal and pose a negligible risk in terms of safety.

Abstract
Extensive evidence has shown that air pollution increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) admissions. We aimed to explore the short-term effect of air pollution on CVD admissions in Lanzhou residents and their lag effects. Meteorological data, air pollution data, and a total of 309,561 daily hospitalizations for CVD among urban residents in Lanzhou were collected from 2013 to 2020. Distributed lag non-linear model was used to analyze the relationship between air pollutants and CVD admissions, stratified by gender, age, and season. PM2.5, NO2, and CO have the strongest harmful effects at lag03, while SO2 at lag3. The relative risks of CVD admissions were 1.0013(95% CI: 1.0003, 1.0023), 1.0032(95% CI: 1.0008, 1.0056), and 1.0040(95% CI: 1.0024, 1.0057) when PM2.5, SO2, and NO2 concentrations were increased by 10 μg/m³, respectively. Each 1 mg/m3 increase in CO concentration was associated with a relative risk of cardiovascular hospitalization of risk was 1.0909(95% CI: 1.0367, 1.1479). We observed a relative risk of 0.9981(95% CI: 0.9972, 0.9991) for each 10 μg/m³ increase in O3 for CVD admissions at lag06. We found a significant lag effects of air pollutants on CVD admissions. NO2 and CO pose a greater risk of hospitalization for women, while PM2.5 and SO2 have a greater impact on men. PM2.5, NO2, and CO have a greater impact on CVD admissions in individuals aged <65 years, whereas SO2 affects those aged ≥65 years. Our research indicates a possible short-term impact of air pollution on CVD. Local public health and environmental policies should take these preliminary findings into account.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ozone is an allotrope of oxygen whose use in medicine has rapidly grown in recent years. Ozonated blood allows for the use of ozone in a safe modality, as plasma and blood cells are endowed with an antioxidant system able to quench ozone's pro-oxidant property and to elicit the Nrf2/Kwap1/ARE pathway. METHODS We present two clinical studies, a case-series (six patients) observational study adopting ozone as a major autohemotherapy and topical ozone to address infected post-surgical wounds with multi-drug resistant bacteria and an observational study (250 patients) using ozonated blood for treating knee osteoarthritis. RESULTS Ozonated blood via major autohemotherapy reduced the extent of infections in wounds, reduced the inflammatory biomarkers by more than 75% and improved patients' QoL, whereas ozonated blood via minor autohemotherapy improved significantly (p < 0.001) WOMAC and Lequesne's parameters in knee osteoarthritis. CONCLUSIONS The models described, i.e., ozone autohemotherapy in wound antimicrobial treatment and ozonated blood in knee osteoarthrosis, following our protocols, share the outstanding ability of ozone to modulate the innate immune response and address bacterial clearance as well as inflammation and pain.

Abstract
The ex vivo treatment of a limited volume of blood with gaseous oxygen-ozone (O2-O3) mixtures and its rapid reinfusion into the patient is a widespread medical procedure. O3 instantly reacts with the blood's antioxidant systems, disappearing before reinfusion, although the molecules formed act as messengers in the organism, inducing multiple antioxidant and anti-inflammatory responses. An appropriate dose of O3 is obviously essential to ensure both safety and therapeutic efficacy, and in recent years, the low-dose O3 concept has led to a significant reduction in the administered O3 concentrations. However, the molecular events triggered by such low concentrations in the blood still need to be fully elucidated. In this basic study, we analysed the molecular modifications induced ex vivo in sheep blood by 5 and 10 µg O3/mL O2 by means of a powerful metabolomics analysis in association with haemogas, light microscopy and bioanalytical assays. This combined approach revealed increased oxygenation and an increased antioxidant capacity in the O3-treated blood, which accorded with the literature. Moreover, original information was obtained on the impact of these low O3 concentrations on the metabolic pathways of amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleotides, with the modified metabolites being mostly involved in the preservation of the oxidant-antioxidant balance and in energy production.

Abstract
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the most serious public health problems. However, few studies have focused on the effects of exposure to particulate matter and gaseous air pollutants on CHD. This study aimed to explore the relationship between air pollutants and the number of hospitalized patients with CHD in Lanzhou, and we collected daily data on the number of hospitalized patients with CHD, daily air pollutants, and meteorological factors from 2013 to 2020. A distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM) combined with a quasi-Poisson regression model was applied to evaluate the relationship between air pollutants and the number of hospitalized patients with CHD. The results indicated that the hysteresis effect of all pollutants except O38h reached its maximum at lag3, and the relative risk of coronary heart disease admission was 1.0014 (95%CI: 1.0004, 1.0023), 1.0003 (95%CI: 1.0000, 1.0006), 1.0020 (95%CI: 1.0004, 1.0035), and 1.0053 (95%CI: 1.0026, 1.0080) when PM2.5, PM10, NO2, and SO2 concentrations were increased by 10 μg/m3, respectively. Each 1 mg/m3 increase in CO concentration was associated with a relative risk of coronary heart disease; hospitalization risk was 1.1076 (95%CI: 1.0530, 1.1650). We observed a relative risk of 0.9991 (95%CI: 0.9986, 0.9999) for each 10 μg/m3 increase in O38h for coronary heart disease admission at lag1. Women and elderly were more susceptible to the impact of air pollution, and the impact was greater during cold seasons. Our results indicate that air pollution increased the risk of hospitalization for CHD in a short term. The research findings can provide strategic insights into the impact of current and future air pollution on CHD.

Abstract
Electrical breakdown is an important physical phenomenon in power equipment and electronic devices. Recently, the mechanism of AC and DC breakdown has been preliminarily revealed as electrode-dielectric interface breakdown and bulk breakdown, respectively, based on space charge dynamics through numerical calculations. However, the AC breakdown mechanism still lacks enough direct experimental support, which restricts further understanding and the design and development of electrical structures. Here, in this study, LDPE films with various thicknesses ranging from 33 μm to 230 μm were surface modified with ozone for different durations to experimentally investigate DC and AC breakdown mechanism. The results indicate that carbonyl groups (C=O) were introduced onto the film surface, forming shallow surface traps and leading to a decreased average trap depth and an increased trap density. Such a surface oxidation modulated trap distribution led to enhanced space charge injection and bulk electrical field distortion, which decreased DC breakdown strength as the oxidation duration went longer, in all film thicknesses. However, such decreases in breakdown strength occurred only in films below 55 μm under AC stresses, as the enhanced electrical field distortion at the electrode-dielectric interface was more obvious and dominating in thin films. These experimental results further confirm the proposed electrode-dielectric interface breakdown of dielectric films and provide new understandings of space charge modulated electrical breakdown, which fulfills dielectric breakdown theory and benefits the miniaturization of power equipment and electronic devices.

Abstract
Objective There is limited evidence that atmospheric pollutants are associated with the number of allergic rhinitis (AR) visits. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between atmospheric pollutants and meteorological factors and the number of daily visits for AR in Hohhot City, providing a theoretical basis for further research on the effects of atmospheric pollutants on AR. Methods Microsoft Excel 2016 was used to collect and organize the AR outpatient consultation data, air pollution and meteorological data in Hohhot City during 2018-2020, and the data were descriptively analyzed and Spearman correlation test was performed using SPSS22.0; A generalized additive model was built in R4.2.3 to analyze the effect of air pollution on the number of AR visits and its lagged and cumulative effects, while the robustness of the model was tested using a two-pollutant analysis. Finally, we analyzed the effects of the interaction of temperature, relative humidity and pollutants on the number of AR visits. Results The daily average concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, CO, and O3 in Hohhot during 2018-2020 were 38.1 μg/m3, 83.3 μg/m3, 36.1 μg/m3, 15.1 μg/m3, 14.2 mg/m3, and 99.95 μg/m3, respectively, with the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 exceeding the secondary limit of the national standard. The results of the generalized additive model analysis showed that the RR and 95% CI of the effect of each 10 μg/m3 increase in pollutant concentration (1 mg/m3 increase in CO) on the number of AR outpatient clinics were 1.008 (1.001-1.016), 1.002 (1-1.005), 1.072 (1.033-1.113), 1.020 (1007-1.034), 1.033 (1.014-1.052), 0.987 (0.9804-0.9936). Conclusion Short-term exposure to PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, and CO was significantly associated with an increase in AR clinic visits, and short-term exposure to O3 was significantly associated with a decrease in allergic rhinitis clinic visits.

Abstract
Background The field of dentistry is evolving as a result of the increased utilization of contemporary scientific knowledge in dental procedures. When compared to traditional medical treatments like antibiotics and disinfectants, ozone therapy is more budget-friendly, reliable, and conservative. Ozone therapy has proven more effective than the standard treatments available today. Ozone treatment shortens treatment time and eradicates bacterium counts. The fact that there is no discomfort involved with the procedure also helps to boost patient acceptance. Clinical research on the use of ozone in dentistry is limited compared to the amount of research conducted in laboratories. The intent is to assess the knowledge and awareness about ozone dentistry among dental students at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods In this examination, a cross-sectional study was undertaken using a questionnaire that has been pre-validated and pre-tested. A total 201 individuals of BDS graduates took part in the survey. Non-probability convenience sampling was used for selecting the samples. The IBM SPSS Statistics, version 25.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY), was used to statistically analyze the collected data. Descriptive statistics in the form of frequencies and percentages were used. To determine the degree of significance, Pearson's chi-squared test was used; results were deemed significant if p < 0.05. Using Lawshe's method, the questionnaire's validity was examined. Results The study population included 65 men (48.87%) and 68 females (51.12%), with 22.75 ± 0.76 as the population's mean age. The research included 51.87% (69) third-year students and 48.12% (64) final-year students. In all, 53.38% knew about dental ozone. Meanwhile, 82.70% of respondents believed that the primary chemical characteristic of ozone is its oxidative nature (p = 0.021), and 78.19% utilized aqueous ozone for hospital disinfection (p = 0.008). With a p = 0.007, 36.84% recognized that ozonated oil is an intra-canal dressing or medicine. Moreover, 37.59% and 42.85% assess gaseous ozone's microbicidal and wound-healing properties accordingly (p = 0.037, statistically significant). The correlation was calculated using Pearson's test with a high level of significance between age and gender as well as gender and awareness (p = 0.01). A statistically significant relationship was found between age and awareness (p = 0.036). Conclusion The clinical application of ozone is a minimally invasive technique for the prevention and treatment of dental disorders. In order to establish ozone therapy as a widely accepted treatment modality in dental practice, it is necessary to do additional research in the field of dentistry. This research should involve controlled clinical studies that have an adequate follow-up duration and utilize standardized metrics. Although ozone therapy has been demonstrated to be effective, its utilization in the field of dentistry is not commonly practiced.

Abstract
Support and management of second-intention wound healing involves frequent dressing changes having different properties. Dressings can range from simple ones, such as nonadherent dressings, to more complex options, such as foam, hydrocolloid, alginate or negative pressure dressings. Seven cats were enrolled in the study with a total of nine wounds of various sizes with different etiology sizes and localizations. Three methods of local ozone administration were used to cover more of the ozone properties in the treatment of wounds: bagging, perilesional subcutaneous infiltrations and lavages with ozonated saline. Evaluation of the healing process was performed by clinical observation and wound area measurements every seven days until the complete recovery of the patients. The results of this study should encourage clinicians to consider medical ozone as a new therapeutic approach with regenerative properties in the second-intention healing of cats presenting cutaneous wounds.

Abstract
Myocardial ischemiareperfusion injury (MIRI) is defined as the additional damage that occurs during the process of restoring blood flow to the heart tissue after ischemia-induced damage. Ozone is a powerful oxidizer, but low concentrations of ozone can protect various organs from oxidative stress. Some studies have demonstrated a link between ozone and myocardioprotection, but the mechanism remains unclear. To establish an in vivo animal model of ischemiareperfusion injury (I/R), this study utilized C57 mice, while an in vitro model of hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R) injury was developed using H9c2 cardiomyocytes to simulate ischemiareperfusion injury. Ozone pretreatment was used in in vitro and in vivo experiments. Through this research, we found that ozone therapy can reduce myocardial injury, and further studies found that ozone regulates the expression levels of these ferroptosis-related proteins and transcription factors in the H/R model, which were screened by bioinformatics. In particular, nuclear translocation of Nrf2 was enhanced by pretreatment with ozone, inhibited ferroptosis and ameliorated oxidative stress by initiating the expression of Slc7a11 and Gpx4. Significantly, Nrf2 gene silencing reverses the protective effects of ozone in the H/R model. In summary, our results suggest that ozone protects the myocardium from I/R damage through the Nrf2/Slc7a11/Gpx4 signaling pathway, highlighting the potential of ozone as a new coronary artery disease therapy.

Abstract
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are a crucial issue in current literature due to their impact on physical function, social, and economic costs. Rehabilitation plays a pivotal role in the therapeutic management of these disabling conditions with growing evidence underlining positive effects in improving functional outcomes. However, to date, several questions are still open about the mechanisms underpinning functional improvements while recent research is now focusing on a deeper understanding of the biophysical processes underpinning the macroscopical effects of these treatments. Thus, this narrative review aims at providing a comprehensive overview about the state of the art of biophysical dimensions of currently available treatments for MSD. PubMed, Scopus, CENTRAL, PEDro, and Web of Science were searched between March 2022 and October 2022 for in vitro and in vivo studies, clinical trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analysis addressing the issue of biophysics-based approach in rehabilitation of MSD. Our findings showed that a biophysical approach might be integrated into regenerative rehabilitation, aiming at enhancing regenerative processes by mechanical and biophysical stimuli. In addition, a biophysical-based approach has been proposed to improve knowledge about several instrumental physical therapies, including shock wave therapies, low-level laser therapy, ultrasound, short-wave diathermy, electrical stimulation, pulsed electromagnetic field, and vibration therapy. In accordance, emerging research is now focusing on the biophysical properties of several medical procedures to improve pain management in patients with MSD. Taken together, our results showed promising results of the integration of a biophysical-based approach in rehabilitation, albeit several limitations currently limit its implementation in routine clinical setting. Unfortunately, the state of the art is still inconclusive, and the low quality of clinical studies based on the biophysical approach did not provide clear treatment protocols. Further studies are needed to promote a precise rehabilitation approach targeting biological modification and enhancing the functional improvement of patients with MSDs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The involvement of the central nervous system is a frequent yet underestimated complication of diabetes mellitus. Visual evoked potentials (VEP) are a simple, sensitive, and noninvasive method for detecting early alterations in central optic pathways. The objective of this paralleled randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the impact of ozone therapy on visual pathways in diabetic patients. METHODS Sixty patients with type 2 diabetes visiting clinics of Baqiyatallah university in Tehran (Iran) hospital were randomly assigned to two experimental groups: Group 1 (N = 30) undergoing a cycle of 20 sessions of systemic oxygen-ozone therapy in addition to standard therapy for metabolic control; Group 2 (N = 30)-serving as control-receiving only standard therapy against diabetes. The primary study endpoints were two VEP parameters; P100 wave latency and P100 amplitude at 3 months. Moreover, HbA1c levels were measured before the start of treatment and three months later as secondary study endpoint. RESULTS All 60 patients completed the clinical trial. P100 latency significantly reduced at 3 months since baseline. No correlation was found between repeated measures of P100 wave latency and HbA1c (Pearson's r = 0.169, p = 0.291). There was no significant difference between baseline values and repeated measures of P100 wave amplitude over time in either group. No adverse effects were recorded. CONCLUSIONS Ozone therapy improved the conduction of impulses in optic pathways of diabetic patients. The improved glycemic control following ozone therpay may not fully explain the reduction of P100 wave latency though; other mechanistic effects of ozone may be involved.

Abstract
Viruses are frequently a microbial biocontaminant of healthy plants. The occurrence of the infection can be also due to environmental stress, like urbanisation, air pollution and increased air temperature, especially under the ongoing climate change. The aim of the present study was to investigate the hypothesis that worsened air quality and fewer green areas may favour the higher frequency of common viral infections, particularly in a common tree in temperate and continental climates, Betula pendula ROTH. We examined 18 trees, during the years 2015-2017, the same always for each year, in the region of Augsburg, Germany. By specific PCR, the frequency of two viruses, Cherry leaf roll virus (CLRV, genus Nepovirus, family Secoviridae), which is frequent in birch trees, and a novel virus tentatively named birch idaeovirus (BIV), which has been only recently described, were determined in pollen samples. The occurrence of the viruses was examined against the variables of urban index, air pollution (O3 and NO2), air temperature, and tree morphometrics (trunk perimeter, tree height, crown height and diameter). Generalized Non-linear models (binomial logit with backward stepwise removal of independent variables) were employed. During the study period, both CLRV and BIV were distributed widely throughout the investigated birch individuals. CLRV seemed to be rather cosmopolitan and was present independent of any abiotic factor. BIV's occurrence was mostly determined by higher values of the urban index and of NO2. Urban birch trees, located next to high-traffic roads with higher NO2 levels, are more likely to be infected by BIV. Increased environmental stress may lead to more plant viral infections. Here we suggest that this is particularly true for urban spaces, near high-traffic roads, where plants may be more stressed, and we recommend taking mitigation measures for controlling negative human interventions.

Abstract
Alphaherpesviruses cause genital lesions and reproductive failure in both humans and animals. Their control is mainly based on prevention using hygienic prophylactic measures due to the absence of vaccines and limitations of antiviral drug therapy. Ozone is an oxidating gas showing a strong microbicidal activity on bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa. The present study assessed the in vitro virucidal and antiviral activity of ozone against caprine herpesvirus type 1 (CpHV-1). The virucidal activity of a gaseous mixture containing O3 at 20 and 50 μg/mL was assessed against the virus at different contact times (30 s, 60 s, 90 s, 120 s, 180 s, and 300 s). Antiviral activity of a gaseous mixture containing O3 at 20 and 50 μg/mL was evaluated against the virus after 30 s and 60 s. Ozone displayed significant virucidal activity when used at all the tested concentrations whilst significant antiviral activity was observed using ozone at 50 μg/mL. The gaseous mixture, tested in the present study, showed virucidal and antiviral activity against CpHV-1 in a dose- and time contact-dependent fashion. Ozone therapy could be evaluated in vivo for the treatment of CpHV-1-induced genital lesions in goats using topical applications.

Abstract
The ultimate objective of this review is to encourage a multi-disciplinary and integrated methodological approach that, starting from the recognition of some current uncertainties, helps to deepen the molecular bases of ozone treatment effects on human and animal well-being and to optimize their performance in terms of reproducibility of results, quality, and safety. In fact, the common therapeutic treatments are normally documented by healthcare professionals' prescriptions. The same applies to medicinal gases (whose uses are based on their pharmacological effects) that are intended for patients for treatment, diagnostic, or preventive purposes and that have been produced and inspected in accordance with good manufacturing practices and pharmacopoeia monographs. On the contrary, it is the responsibility of healthcare professionals, who thoughtfully choose to use ozone as a medicinal product, to achieve the following objectives: (i) to understand the molecular basis of the mechanism of action; (ii) to adjust the treatment according to the clinical responses obtained in accordance with the principles of precision medicine and personalized therapy; (iii) to ensure all quality standards.

Abstract
Background and Aim According to 2013 data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, there were 8.2% more wounds than typical in Indonesia; 25.4% were open wounds, 70.9% were abrasions and bruises, and 23.2% were lacerations. A wound is defined as damage or loss of body tissue. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of wound healing using red-laser therapy (650 nm, 3.5 J/cm2), blue-laser therapy (405 nm, 3.5 J/cm2), ozone therapy, red-laser therapy (650 nm, 3.5 J/cm2) with ozone, and blue-laser therapy (405 nm, 3.5 J/cm2) with ozone. Materials and Methods One hundred and twelve mice were given incision wounds and infected with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The study used a factorial design with two factors: The type of therapy (n = 7) and irradiation time (days 1, 2, 4, and 6). The mice were divided into seven therapy groups: Control group with NaCl, control with Sofra-tulle® treatment, red-laser therapy (650 nm, 3.5 J/cm2), blue-laser therapy (405 nm, 3.5 J/cm2), ozone therapy, red-laser therapy (650 nm, 3.5 J/cm2) with ozone, and blue-laser therapy (405 nm, 3.5 J/cm2) with ozone. This therapy was performed using irradiation perpendicular to the wound area. The photosensitizer used was curcumin 10 mg/mL, which was applied to the wound area before exposure to a laser and ozone. The ozone concentration was 0.011 mg/L with a flow time of 80 s. The test parameters were the number of collagens, bacterial colonies, lymphocytes, monocytes, and wound length measurement to determine their acceleration effects on wound healing. Data were analyzed by a two-way (factorial) analysis of variance test. Results Acceleration of wound healing was significantly different between treatments with a laser or a laser-ozone combination and treatment using 95% sodium chloride (NaCl) and Sofra-tulle®. On day 6, the blue-laser with ozone treatment group had efficiently increased the number of bacteria and reduced the wound length, and the red-laser treatment with ozone increased the amount of collagen. In addition, the red-laser also reduced the number of lymphocytes and monocytes, which can have an impact on accelerating wound healing. Blue-laser therapy was very effective for increasing the number of epithelia. Conclusion The blue- and red-laser combined with ozone treatments effectively accelerated the healing of incisional wounds infected with MRSA bacteria.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Ozone is a naturally occurring unstable compound with three oxygen atoms that generally transforms into an oxygen molecule, releasing one oxygen atom. This feature has been exploited in dentistry for numerous applications, including for periodontal diseases and peri-implantitis. METHODS This review was performed in relation to the PRISMA flow chart and was annotated in the PROSPERO register. PICO questions were used as research questions. The risk of bias in the non-randomized clinical trials was appraised using the ROBINS-I tool. RESULTS An electronic search found a total of 1073 records, in particular, 842 from MEDLINE/PubMed, 13 from Bio Med Central, 160 from Scopus, 1 from the Cochrane library databases, and 57 from the PROSPERO register. A total of 17 studies were included in the present systematic review. Information regarding the characteristics of the periodontal clinical and radiographic parameters for gaseous ozone, ozonate water, ozonate oil, and ozone gel, including clinical attachment loss (CAL) probing depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BoP), plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), and marginal bone levels (MBL), were obtained. CONCLUSIONS The studies included in this systematic review show different results regarding the ozone in periodontal treatment in association with or without SRP.

Abstract
Degeneration of the intervertebral disc is one of the most frequent causes of lumbar pain, and it puts an extreme strain on worldwide healthcare systems. Finding a solution for this disease is an important challenge as current surgical and conservative treatments fail to bring a short-term or long-term solution to the problem. Medical ozone has yielded excellent results in intervertebral disc pathology. When it comes to extruded disc herniation, ozone is the only etiological treatment because it stimulates the immune system to absorb the herniated portion of the nucleus pulposus, thus resolving discal extrusion. This work aims to examine the biomolecular mechanisms that lead to intervertebral disc degeneration while highlighting the significance of oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. Considering that ozone is a regulator of oxidative stress and, therefore, of inflammation, we assert that medical ozone could modulate this process and obtain inflammatory stage macrophages (M1) to switch to the repair phase (M2). Consequently, the ozone would be a therapeutic resource that would work on the etiology of the disease as an epigenetic regulator that would help repair the intervertebral space.

Abstract
Mares' subfertility represents a complex diagnostic and therapeutic challenge and both clinical and subclinical endometritis are considered major causes of impaired fertility. Thanks to its properties, ozone has a big potential as a treatment for equine endometritis. Therefore, the aim of this study is to describe the safety and the effects on endometrium and reproductive parameters of mares of a commercial ozone foam preparation (Riger Spray®). Twenty-four mares were treated during estrus: ozone group with an intrauterine instillation of ozone foam preparation (OG, n=16) and control group with 20 ml of lactated Ringer's solution (CG, n=8). Samples for endometrial cytology were collected before the ozone treatment (T0), after 24 h (T1), after one week (T2), two weeks (T3), and when the subsequent estrous phase was detected (T4). Furthermore, samples for histological examination and uterine swab for bacteriological examination were collected at T0 and T4. At T1, a statistically significant increase of endometrial inflammation in the OG mares compared to T0 (P<.05) and to CG at same time point (P<.05) was observed, but it was already resolved at T2. No differences in endometrial inflammation in CG, biopsy grade before and after the treatment in the two groups, number of mares pregnant at the end of the season and number of mares pregnant at the first cycle were observed. However, the number of inseminations required for pregnancy tended to be lower (P=.0711) in the OG (1.69±0.06) than in CG mares (2.60±0.89).

Abstract
This case report describes a new therapeutic approach for a domestic shorthaired female cat, who has an extensive posttraumatic wound in the right hind limb. After patient stabilization, general anesthesia was started and the wound was cleaned and debrided of devitalized tissues, followed by the application of ozone therapy and bandage. Eight sessions of ozone therapy were performed for 17 days until the application of the skin graft. Three more sessions of ozone therapy were performed every 3 days postoperatively. The bagging method and the perilesional infiltration method were used. The ozone therapy ensured an accelerated recovery of the patient without any complications. According to our knowledge, this is the first case report with the use of ozone therapy to support a free skin graft in a cat. The new therapeutic approach could be used to accelerate healing of the wounds with a significant lack of substance, by supporting pre- and post-operative skin grafts.

Abstract
Apart from conventional treatment, dentists are increasingly relying on physical therapy modalities in their clinical practice. The aim of this literature review is to analyze the clinical relevance and potential uses of ozone in modern dentistry. The research question is geared towards detailing the multiple potential applications of ozone therapy in a range of dental specialties. Based on the available literature, accessed via the PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and EBSCO databases, a detailed search of the electronic literature was performed for 2001-2022. Eligible studies were chosen according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, using keywords: ozone, ozone therapy, therapeutic applications, oxidants, dental disinfectants, oral medicine, physical therapy in dentistry. Out of 834 manuscripts, 273 studies were curated. A total of 70 publications were used in the final consideration. After assessing their quality, they were analyzed to determine the relevance and potential use of ozone in the various aspects of modern dentistry. Ozone therapy is used mainly as an adjunct to the primary clinical or pharmacological treatment. In some cases of oral mucosal disease, it has proven effective as a primary therapy. During the literature analysis, it was noted that ozone therapy in dentistry is a subject of ongoing research, and the results are not always consistent. The multitude of studies in the literature on the applications of ozone in dentistry reflects the search for its undiscovered physical therapeutic potential.

Abstract
Ozone is an oxidating gas showing a strong microbicidal activity on bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa. The aim of this study was to test the in vitro bacteriocidal action of an Ozone/Oxygen gas mixture on bacteria isolated from the cervico-vaginal mucus of cows affected by acute metritis. A pilot study was initially carried out on reference strains (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Mycoplasma bovigenitalium ATCC 19852) that were tested with three different treatments: a control positive baseline group (B-group) was incubated without gas treatment, a control positive oxygen group (O2-group) was treated with pure oxygen 100%, and the treated group (T-group) was exposed to a gaseous constant flow of an Ozone/Oxygen mixture, at 50, 35, 20 μg Ozone/ml and for 5, 3 and 1 min for every different Ozone concentration. In both positive control groups, the number of colony forming units (CFU) per ml was higher than 300 CFU/ml (E. coli and S. aureus) and higher than 30 CFU/ml for M. bovigenitalium, after incubation. The T-groups showed a minimal bacterial growth equal to or lower than 1 CFU/ml per plate. Based on the results of the pilot study, a second phase was performed on bacteria isolated from the cervico-vaginal mucus (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter agglomerans, E. coli, Proteus mirabilis and M. bovigenitalium) using the lower concentration of 20 μg/ml of Ozone for the minimum exposure time of 1 min. The E. coli and S. aureus reference strains and the clinical isolates (K. pneumoniae, E. agglomerans, E. coli, P. mirabilis) were incubated at 37 °C for 48 h and the colonies were manually counted at 24 h and 48 h following inoculation. The cultures of M. bovigenitalium (both ATCC and clinical isolate) were incubated in a jar with modified atmosphere conditions with 5% CO2 at 37 °C for 4-7 days and colony counting was performed. The second phase showed a low number of CFUs (equal to or less than 7 CFU/ml) for the clinical isolates K. pneumoniae, E. agglomerans, E. coli and P. mirabilis, and, of note, for M. bovigenitalium, both ATCC and clinical isolate, the growth was completely inhibited. Ozone was demonstrated to have a bacteriocidal activity. This study encourages further research of in vivo application of low doses of gaseous Ozone for the treatment of metritis in cows by using minimal exposure times.

Abstract
Pigmented purpuric dermatosis is a rare, unique purpuric skin disorder, most commonly located on the lower extremities and characterized by petechiae with tiny red rashes and brown pigmented patches. The precise etiology and a reliable treatment have not been established. This case report presents a 72-year-old female with repeating purpuric, tiny rashes and persistent extensive brown pigmented patches with pigmented purpuric dermatosis on both lower extremities for the past 20 years. Ozone nanobubble (ONB) water is a new sterilizing agent containing dissolved nanosized ozone gas bubbles in water. The patient performed an oral rinse every night with ONB water and was successfully treated. However, vitamin C administration and Ruby laser treatment were needed to reduce residual pigmentation. This case suggests that oral bacteria may be a causative factor of pigmented purpuric dermatosis.
