Abstract
INTRODUCTION The postpartum period can be a wonderful time for women as they embark on motherhood. However, this time is not without its surprises and challenges as new mothers support the life of another and navigate the physical and psychological changes they experience. This transformation period can often negatively impact body image and self-esteem, which can lead to further adverse health outcomes for mothers and children. METHODS This research employs a qualitative design of semi-structured interviews with 20 Australian mothers with at least one child under four. RESULTS Using reflexive thematic analysis, our study identified three key themes: (i) navigating expectation vs experience: Physical and psychological transformations in the postpartum, (ii) navigating body image in a socially influenced world, and (iii) navigating well-being in a busy world: Balancing self-care and external demands. CONCLUSIONS The results highlight the influence of societal thin ideals on mothers' eating attitudes, the crucial role of support networks serving as protective factors against body image concerns, and the need for enhanced education and preparation to guide women through this transformative period. SO WHAT?: The findings shed light on the lived experiences of postpartum women, providing valuable insights into the complex interplay of body image, eating attitudes, and self-care practices, sharing information for healthcare and support interventions, aiming to improve overall health and well-being for mothers.

Abstract
PURPOSE The primary challenge in infant care is developing a comprehensive, rapid, and reliable assessment tool that is minimally dependent on subjective evaluations and applicable in various inpatient settings. This study aims to develop and assess the structural validity of the Infant Nursing Assessment Scale (INA), enabling a comprehensive evaluation of hospitalized newborns and infants. DESIGN AND METHODS A development and validation study based on cross-sectional design was undertaken. The study included the conceptualization and validation of the INA scale through qualitative expert interviews, followed by a pilot study and psychometric evaluation using exploratory factor analysis and Rasch analysis. The INA scale comprises three subscales: Functionality, Breastfeeding, and Parental-infant relationship dynamics, encompassing 22 items. RESULTS The study included 319 valid measurements, with significant score decreases from admission to discharge in most items, indicating the scale's sensitivity to clinical status changes. Factor analysis revealed strong structural validity while the Rasch analysis revealed optimal Infit and Outfit Mean-Square values for most items. Items Sensorium and Mother's substance use did not show significant changes and were considered for removal. The scale's internal consistency was acceptable, with Cronbach's Alpha values ranging from 0.59 to 0.74 across subscales. CONCLUSIONS The INA scale is a reliable instrument for assessing the comprehensive needs of hospitalized infants, supporting targeted nursing interventions and enhancing the quality of pediatric care. The study confirms the INA scale's validity and reliability, highlighting its potential for broader application in various in-hospital clinical settings.

Abstract
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is known for antiobesity. However, the role of CLA in regulating high-fat diet (HFD)-impaired pubertal mammary gland development remains undefined. Here, pubertal female mice and HC11 cells were treated with HFD or palmitic acid (PA), supplemented with or without CLA, respectively. We found that CLA prevented impaired mammary gland development in pubertal mice exposed to HFD. In vitro, c9, t11-CLA, but not t10, c12-CLA, promoted PA-suppressed HC11 proliferation, accompanied by hindered CD36 palmitoylation and localization on the plasma membrane. Moreover, c9, t11-CLA reduced the formation of the CD36/Fyn/Lyn complex and inhibited the JNK pathway while activated the ERK pathway in PA-treated HC11. In mechanism, the activation of the JNK pathway and the inhibition of ERK abolished the c9, t11-CLA-stimulated proliferation of PA-treated HC11. In vivo verification, CLA reduced the total and cell membrane CD36 palmitoylation, suppressed the formation of the CD36/FYN/LYN complex, and inhibited the JNK pathway but activated the ERK pathway in the mammary gland of HFD-fed mice. In conclusion, CLA mitigated HFD-impaired mammary gland development of pubertal mice and PA-suppressed HC11 proliferation via CD36 palmitoylation and the downstream JNK-ERK pathway. These data suggested the potential application of CLA in ameliorating obesity-impaired pubertal mammary gland development.

Abstract
Single-cell sequencing technology provides apparent advantages in cell population heterogeneity, allowing individuals to better comprehend tissues and organs. Sequencing technology is currently moving beyond the standard transcriptome to the single-cell level, which is likely to bring new insights into the function of breast cells. In this study, we examine the primary cell types involved in breast development, as well as achievements in the study of scRNA-seq in the microenvironment, stressing the finding of novel cell subsets using single-cell approaches and analyzing the problems and solutions to scRNA-seq. Furthermore, we are excited about the field's promising future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this review is to synthesize the existing qualitative evidence on the breastfeeding experiences of mothers of hospitalized preterm infants. INTRODUCTION Breastfeeding is crucial for the well-being and development of preterm infants born before 37 weeks' gestation. Mothers of preterm infants often face challenges that make breastfeeding particularly complex. Understanding mothers' breastfeeding experience is important for health care professionals, as it enables them to provide appropriate support and assistance. The qualitative evidence synthesis regarding the breastfeeding experiences of mothers of preterm infants in hospital settings is a valuable area of research that has not been documented. INCLUSION CRITERIA This review will consider all qualitative studies that explore mothers' experiences of breastfeeding and mother's own milk management for their hospitalized infants. Mothers of preterm infants who provide their own milk to their infants will be considered, regardless of their age, gravidity, parity, singleton/multiple pregnancies, gender identity, marital status, social status, or preterm infant's gestational age. METHODS This review will follow the JBI approach for qualitative systematic review. The search strategy aims to find both published and unpublished studies, with no date limit. A search of PubMed, CINAHL (EBSCOhost), and Embase (EBSCOhost) will be undertaken to identify articles on the topic. Studies published in English will be considered for inclusion in this review. Two independent reviewers will evaluate the methodological validity of the selected papers before incorporating them into the review. Data synthesis will be conducted using the meta-aggregation approach, and synthesized findings will be assessed using the ConQual approach. REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42024501454.

Abstract
Pesticides are widely used to control pests, but their widespread use raises concerns regarding potential health risks for humans. There are several routes through which pesticides can be ingested, inhaled, and absorbed, resulting in acute and long-term health consequences. This systematic review synthesizes the available evidence regarding the health risks and long-term effects of pesticide exposure, with a particular focus on epidemiological and toxicological studies. A systematic review was conducted by searching scientific databases i.e. Scopus, and Web of Science for peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2024. Studies were selected based on their focus on pesticide exposure, health risks, and long-term effects. Meta-analysis was conducted where sufficient homogeneity of outcomes allowed. This review identified consistent associations between chronic pesticide exposure and non-communicable diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, and endocrine disruptions. An increased incidence of respiratory issues and neurodegenerative diseases was often associated with occupational exposure to pesticides. People exposed for a prolonged or high intensity time period, particularly agricultural workers, were more likely to experience long-term health effects. There are a number of factors that influences the ability to draw definitive conclusions, including variations in pesticide types, exposure levels, and health outcomes. Chronic exposure to pesticides presents significant health risks, particularly for individuals in high-exposure environments like agriculture. While evidence indicates strong associations with several long-term health conditions, additional research is necessary to elucidate dose-response relationships and mechanisms of action. This review underscores the necessity for enhanced regulatory measures and improved safety protocols to mitigate pesticide-related health risks.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Thoracic spine postural dysfunctions are common postpartum-related health problems, compromising breastfeeding efficacy and quality of life among women. Previous studies have particularly associated these conditions with increased breast sizes in several populations. However, such empirical evidence is scarce in the Nigerian population. OBJECTIVES To investigate the relationship among breast size, thoracic-kyphosis, and -spine pain among postpartum Nigerian women. METHODS This correlational survey involved 400 consenting postpartum mothers (between 0 and 24 months of postpartum period). Their breast size, thoracic spine posture, and pain were measured using a measuring tape (cm), inclinometer, and Revised Oswestry thoracic spine pain disability questionnaire, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive and relevant inferential statistics at p < 0.05. RESULTS The majority of the participants fall under the category of breast cup size B (61.75%), have no history of thoracic spine pain (87.4%), and about half of them (50.2%) have normal thoracic spine posture (low category with values ranging between 20⁰ and 35⁰. Breast size was significantly (r = 0.162, p = 0.001) correlated with thoracic spine posture but showed no significant correlation (r = 0.066, p = 0.622) with thoracic spine pain. CONCLUSION Increasing breast size is weakly associated with a tendency towards a kyphotic posture of the thoracic spine. Postural education and care around adequate support of the breast with suitable fitting brassieres may help prevent kyphotic deformities. Future research with a randomized control trial and long-term follow-up is recommended to further confirm the causal relationship of these variables.

Abstract
Inadequate research on female health and performance; the complexity of the research; low menstrual health literacy of athletes, coaches, and support staff; and ethical and cultural sensitivities are all recognized as barriers to effective health monitoring for females in sports. Frameworks have been developed for academics to follow to help improve the quality of female-specific research. However, a similar resource that enables correct terminology, and use of health monitoring techniques has not been provided for sporting organizations, coaches, support staff or athletes. Therefore, this critical commentary presents a new resource, the Menstrual Health Manager. This resource may be used to determine the level of menstrual health monitoring detail that may be used by organisations, coaches or athletes, and specifies what reproductive health details the data will provide. This resource aims to provide organizations and coaches with a means of understanding the data that inform their decisions for female athletes. Utilization of this resource may aid in the consistent use of terminology and methods for female-specific health monitoring in both sports and research.

Abstract
Breastfeeding is the most complete nutritional method of feeding infants, but several impediments affect the decision to breastfeed, including questions of drug safety for medications needed during lactation. Despite recent FDA guidance, few labels provide clear dosing advice during lactation. Physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling (PBPK) is well suited to mechanistically explore pharmacokinetics and dosing paradigms to fill gaps in the absence of extensive clinical studies and complement existing real-world data. For lactation-focused PBPK (Lact-PBPK) models, information on system parameters (e.g., expression of drug transporters in mammary epithelial cells) is sparse. The breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP) is expressed on the apical side of mammary epithelial cells where it actively transports drugs/substrates into milk (reported milk: plasma ratios range from 2 to 20). A critical review of BCRP and its role in lactation was conducted. Longitudinal changes in BCRP mRNA expression have been identified in women with a maximum reached around 5 months postpartum. Limited data are available on the ontogeny of BCRP in infant intestine; however, data indicate lower BCRP abundance in infants compared to adults. Current status of incorporation of drug transporter information in Lact-PBPK models to predict active secretion of drugs into breast milk and consequential exposure of breast-fed infants is discussed. In addition, this review highlights novel clinical tools for evaluation of BCRP activity, namely a potential non-invasive BCRP biomarker (riboflavin) and liquid biopsy that could be used to quantitatively elucidate the role of this transporter without the need for administration of drugs and to inform Lact-PBPK models.

Abstract
Many benign and malignant breast entities can present with diffuse unilateral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings. The unilateral breast findings can be broken down into three broad categories including asymmetric diffuse masses/non-mass enhancement (NME), diffuse unilateral skin thickening, and diffuse asymmetric background enhancement. Although correlation with clinical history is always necessary, biopsy is often needed to make a definitive diagnosis. There are some findings on MRI which can help narrow the differential including morphology, distribution, T2W signal, enhancement kinetics, and associated skin thickening. Malignant entities which will be discussed in this review include ductal carcinoma in situ, invasive ductal carcinoma, invasive lobular carcinoma, Paget disease, inflammatory breast cancer, and locally advanced breast cancer. Benign entities which will be discussed in this review include idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM), infectious mastitis, pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia, giant fibroadenoma, early and late radiation changes, unilateral breast feeding, and central venous obstruction, all which have varied MRI appearances. It is important for radiologists to be familiar with the common entities that can present with diffuse asymmetric unilateral MRI breast findings to ensure the correct diagnosis and management is undertaken.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Reduction mammoplasty is popular among people of various age groups, yet the impact of age on postoperative outcomes remains debated. METHODS The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (2008-2021) was queried to identify adult female patients who underwent reduction mammoplasty. Patients were categorized into 10-year age brackets (i.e., 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and >70 years). We compared age-dependent 30-day outcomes via confounder-adjusted multivariate analyses. RESULTS 40,958 female patients (mean age: 41 ± 14 years and mean body mass index: 31 ± 6.1 kg/m²) were identified. Complications occurred in 6.4% (n = 2635) of cases, with 770 (1.9%) and 483 (1.2%) patients requiring reoperation and readmission, respectively. 1706 (4.2%) women experienced surgical complications, whereas medical complications were generally rare (n = 289; 0.7%). Compared with women aged 18-29 years, risks of any, surgical, and medical complications were higher for patients aged 30-39 years (OR: 1.22, p < 0.01; OR: 1.05, p = 0.51; OR: 1.84, p < 0.01), 40-49 years (OR: 1.34, p < 0.01; OR: 1.17, p = 0.04; OR: 1.54, p = 0.03), 50-59 years (OR: 1.45, p < 0.01; OR: 1.31, p < 0.01; OR: 1.78, p < 0.01), 60-69 years (OR: 1.38 years, p < 0.01; OR: 1.29, p = 0.01; OR: 1.71, p < 0.01), and >70 years (OR: 1.25, p = 0.18; OR: 1.01, p = 0.98; OR: 1.86, p = 0.14). Patients aged >30 years were also more likely to require readmissions and reoperations. CONCLUSION Patient age significantly affects outcomes after reduction mammoplasty, with the lowest risk in patients aged <30 years. Importantly, the association between age and postoperative morbidity was not linear. These findings can help guide informed decisions, recognizing that while age is a factor, it is not the sole determinant of risk.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) leads to several vascular and neurological complications, including diabetic retinopathy (DR). As the population ages, health problems in certain groups, including children and pregnant women, are drawing more and more attention. Pregnancy is one of the independent risk factors for the development and progression of DR. Pregnancy-induced changes may contribute to or worsen DR, which can cause a tremendous burden on public health. It is essential for pregnant women with DR and their offspring to minimize the risk of vision loss from DR in this population and adverse outcomes by understanding the development and processes behind this process. Thus, we have updated the recent situation of epidemiology, evolution characteristics, risk factors, pathophysiology, pregnancy outcomes for a better understanding of the latest status of DR, helping to improve maternal and neonatal pregnancy outcomes, and promoting health for women with DR.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION With advances in AI and machine learning, platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT are emerging as educational resources. While these platforms offer easy access and user-friendliness due to their personalized conversational responses, concerns about the accuracy and reliability of their information persist. As one of the most common surgical procedures performed by plastic surgeons worldwide, breast reduction surgery (BRS) offers relief for the physical and emotional burdens of large breasts. However, like any surgical procedure, it can raise a multitude of questions and anxiety. METHODS To evaluate the quality of medical information provided by ChatGPT in response to common patient inquiries about breast reduction surgery, we developed a 15-question questionnaire with typical patient questions about BRS. These questions were presented to ChatGPT, and the answers were compiled and presented to five board-certified plastic surgeons. Each specialist categorized the response as (1) Appropriate, the response accurately reflects current medical knowledge and best practices for BRS; (2) No, not thorough, the response lacks sufficient detail to be a helpful educational resource; (3) No, inaccurate, the response contains misleading or incorrect information. RESULTS A total of 75 survey responses were obtained, with five experts each analyzing 15 answers from ChatGPT. Of these, 69 (92%) responses were determined to be accurate. However, six (8%) responses were concerning to our experts: four (5.3%) lacked detail, and two (2.7%) were found to be inaccurate. Chi-square analysis revealed no statistical significance in the distribution of responses categorized as "accurate" versus "not thorough/inaccurate," and "not thorough" versus "inaccurate" (p=0.778 and p=0.306, respectively). CONCLUSION While ChatGPT can provide patients with basic background knowledge on BRS and empower patients to ask more informed questions during consultations, it should not replace the consultation and expert guidance of a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Abstract
The Breast Cancer UK-Breast Cancer Prevention Conference addressed risk from environmental pollutants and health behaviour-related breast-cancer risk. Epidemiological studies examining individual chemicals and breast cancer risk have produced inconclusive results including endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) Bisphenol A, per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances as well as aluminium. However, laboratory studies have shown that multiple EDCs, can work together to exhibit effects, even when combined at levels that alone are ineffective. The TEXB-α/β assay measures total estrogenic load, and studies have provided evidence of a link between multiple-chemical exposures and breast cancer. However, prospective studies using TEXB-α/β are needed to establish a causative link. There is also a need to assess real-life exposure to environmental-chemical mixtures during pregnancy, and their potential involvement in programming adverse foetal health outcomes in later life. Higher rates of breast cancer have occurred alongside increases in potentially-modifiable risk factors such as obesity. Increasing body-mass index is associated with increased risk of developing postmenopausal breast cancer, but with decreased risk of premenopausal breast cancer. In contrast, lower rates of breast cancer in Asian compared to Western populations have been linked to soya/isoflavone consumption. Risk is decreased by breastfeeding, which is in addition to the decrease in risk observed for each birth and a young first-birth. Risk is lower in those with higher levels of self-reported physical activity. Current evidence suggests breast-cancer survivors should also avoid weight gain, be physically active, and eat a healthy diet for overall health. A broad scientific perspective on breast cancer risk requires focus on both environmental exposure to chemicals and health behaviour-related risk. Research into chemical exposure needs to focus on chemical mixtures and prospective epidemiological studies in order to test the effects on breast cancer risk. Behaviour-related research needs to focus on implementation as well as deeper understanding of the mechanisms of cancer prevention.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of action of myrrh in breast cancer (BC) treatment and identify its effective constituents. Data on the compounds and targets of myrrh were collected from the TCMSP, PubChem, and Swiss Target Prediction databases. BC-related targets were obtained from the Genecard database. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis, gene ontology (GO) enrichment, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis were conducted on the intersecting targets of the disease and drug. The key targets of myrrh in BC treatment were identified based on the PPI network. The active constituents of myrrh were determined through reverse-screening using the top 20 KEGG pathways. Macromolecular docking studies, molecular dynamic (MD) simulations, and cell assays were utilized to validate the active constituents and critical targets. Network pharmacology indicated that VEGFA, TP53, ESR1, EGFR, and AKT1 are key targets of myrrh. Pelargonidin chloride, Quercetin, and Naringenin were identified as the active constituents of myrrh. Macromolecular docking showed that Quercetin and Naringenin have strong docking capabilities with ESR1. The results of MD simulation experiments align with those of molecular docking experiments. Cell and western blot assays demonstrated that Quercetin and Naringenin could inhibit MCF-7 cells and significantly reduce the expression of ESR1 protein. The findings reveal the active constituents, key targets, and molecular mechanisms of myrrh in BC treatment, providing scientific evidence that supports the role of myrrh in BC therapy. Furthermore, the results suggest that network pharmacology predictions require experimental validation for reliability.

Abstract
Reproductive history is one of the strongest risk factors for breast cancer in women. Pregnancy can promote short-term breast cancer risk, but also reduce a woman's lifetime risk of breast cancer. Changes in hormone levels before and after pregnancy are one of the key factors in breast cancer risk. This article summarizes the changes in hormone levels before and after pregnancy, and the roles of hormones in mammary gland development and breast cancer progression. Other factors, such as changes in breast morphology and mammary gland differentiation, changes in the proportion of mammary stem cells (MaSCs), changes in the immune and inflammatory environment, and changes in lactation before and after pregnancy, also play key roles in the occurrence and development of breast cancer. This review discusses the dual effects and the potential mechanisms of pregnancy on breast cancer risk from the above aspects, which is helpful to understand the complexity of female breast cancer occurrence.

Abstract
(1) Background: Breast reduction is one of the most frequently performed plastic surgeries in women worldwide. The Wise pattern breast reduction is one of the most frequent skin designs for this surgery. One key point of the surgery is to preserve a well-vascularized NAC by using different surgical pedicles. This study aims to test and update the anatomical knowledge of breast vascularization, the topographic and anatomical basis of the different surgical vascular pedicles, and the differences between the right and left sides. (2) Methods: A descriptive observational anatomical study was carried out on 15 breasts from 10 cryopreserved body donors. A dissection was performed by quadrants to know the affected arteries' origin in the different patterns. (3) Results: The largest and most frequently dissected internal mammary perforator artery was in the second intercostal space. A total of 44.9% of the dissected perforators are located in the upper inner quadrant, compared to 53.5% in the lower quadrants. (4) Conclusions: The upper inner quadrant alone has the most arterial perforators. In contrast, the sum of the two lower quadrants represents the greatest vascularization of the breast, with a small difference between both.

Abstract
In this paper, we explore how the prospect of artificial placenta technology (nearing clinical trials in human subjects) should encourage further consideration of the loss experienced by individuals when their pregnancy ends unexpectedly. Discussions of pregnancy loss are intertwined with procreative loss, whereby the gestated entity has died when the pregnancy ends. However, we demonstrate how pregnancy loss can and does exist separate to procreative loss in circumstances where the gestated entity survives the premature ending of the pregnancy. In outlining the value that can be attached to pregnancy beyond fetal-centric narratives, we illustrate how pregnancy loss, separate to procreative loss, can be experienced. This loss has already been recognised among parents who have experienced an unexpected early ending of their pregnancy, resulting in their child being cared for in neonatal intensive care unit. Artificial placentas, however, may exacerbate these feelings and make pregnancy loss (without procreative loss) more visible. We argue that pregnancy is an embodied state in which gestation is facilitated by the body but gestation itself should be recognised as a process-and one that could be separable from pregnancy. In demarcating the two, we explore the different ways in which pregnancy loss can be understood. Our objective in this paper goes beyond contributing to our philosophical understanding of pregnancy towards practical-orientated conclusions regarding the care pathways surrounding the artificial placenta. We make recommendations including the need for counselling and careful consideration of the language used when an artificial placenta is used.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence suggests that women with breast cancer diagnosed during pregnancy (PrBC) and within 2 years of delivery (PPBC) have similar survival compared to women diagnosed not near pregnancy if adjusted for stage and subtype. To investigate whether this is true for all subtypes and for both pregnancy and post-delivery periods, we examined clinicopathologic features and survival in women with breast cancer by trimesters and 6-month post-delivery intervals. MATERIALS AND METHODS Women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during 1992-2018 at ages 18-44 years were identified in the Swedish Cancer Register, with information on childbirths from the Swedish Multi-Generation Register and clinical data from Breast Cancer Quality Registers. Each woman with PrBC or PPBC was matched 1 : 2 by age and year to comparators diagnosed with breast cancer not near pregnancy. Distributions of stage, grade, and surrogate subtypes were compared. Adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for breast cancer mortality were estimated using Cox regression. RESULTS We identified 1430 women with PrBC and PPBC (181 during pregnancy, 499 during the first and 750 during the second year after delivery). Compared to 2860 comparators, women with PrBC and PPBC in the first year after delivery had a significantly higher proportion of luminal human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive, HER2-positive and triple-negative tumours, and more advanced stage at diagnosis. After adjustment for age, year, parity, country of birth, hospital region, subtype, and stage, women diagnosed during the second trimester had a worse prognosis than matched comparators (HR 1.8, 95% CI: 1.0-3.2). CONCLUSIONS Women diagnosed during pregnancy or within the first year after delivery have a worse prognosis than women diagnosed not near pregnancy due to adverse tumour biology and advanced stage at diagnosis. A worse prognosis for women diagnosed during the second trimester remained after multivariable adjustment, possibly reflecting difficulties to provide optimal treatment during ongoing pregnancy.

Abstract
Although highly conserved in structure and function, many (patho)physiological processes of the mammary gland vary drastically between mammals, with mechanisms regulating these differences not well understood. Large mammals display variable lactation strategies and mammary cancer incidence, however, research into these variations is often limited to in vitro analysis due to logistical limitations. Validating a model with functional mammary xenografts from cryopreserved tissue fragments would allow for in vivo comparative analysis of mammary glands from large and/or rare mammals and would improve our understanding of postnatal development, lactation, and premalignancy across mammals. To this end, we generated functional mammary xenografts using mammary tissue fragments containing mammary stroma and parenchyma isolated via an antibody-independent approach from healthy, nulliparous equine and canine donor tissues to study these species in vivo. Cryopreserved mammary tissue fragments were xenotransplanted into de-epithelialized fat pads of immunodeficient mice and resulting xenografts were structurally and functionally assessed. Preimplantation of mammary stromal fibroblasts was performed to promote ductal morphogenesis. Xenografts recapitulated mammary lobule architecture and contained donor-derived stromal components. Mammatropic hormone stimulation resulted in (i) upregulation of lactation-associated genes, (ii) altered proliferation index, and (iii) morphological changes, indicating functionality. Preimplantation of mammary stromal fibroblasts did not promote ductal morphogenesis. This model presents the opportunity to study novel mechanisms regulating unique lactation strategies and mammary cancer induction in vivo. Due to the universal applicability of this approach, this model serves as proof-of-concept for developing mammary xenografts for in vivo analysis of virtually any mammals, including large and rare mammals.

Abstract
The breasts undergo marked physiologic changes during lactation that can make conventional imaging evaluation with mammography and US challenging. MRI can be a valuable diagnostic aid to differentiate physiologic and benign processes from malignancy in patients who are lactating. In addition, MRI may allow more accurate delineation of disease involvement than does conventional imaging and assists in locoregional staging, screening of the contralateral breast, assessment of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and surgical planning. Although the American College of Radiology recommends against patients undergoing contrast-enhanced MRI during pregnancy because of fetal safety concerns, contrast-enhanced MRI is safe during lactation. As more women delay childbearing, the incidence of pregnancy-associated breast cancer (PABC) and breast cancer in lactating women beyond the 1st year after pregnancy is increasing. Thus, MRI is increasingly being performed in lactating women for diagnostic evaluation and screening of patients at high risk. PABC is associated with a worse prognosis than that of non-PABCs, with delays in diagnosis contributing to an increased likelihood of advanced-stage disease at diagnosis. Familiarity with the MRI features of the lactating breast and the appearance of various pathologic conditions is essential to avoid diagnostic pitfalls and prevent delays in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Abstract
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to investigate the effect of oral administration of hydrolyzed whey protein during the perioperative period of cesarean section on postoperative prolactin levels and breast milk production in mothers. Methods triple-blind randomized trial was conducted on women who gave birth in a Chinese tertiary care hospital. Participants were randomly assigned to either the hydrolyzed whey protein or placebo group and were administered the respective substances at specific times during the perioperative period. The primary outcomes were prolactin levels and additional fluid milk intake during specific postoperative periods. Secondary observations included mothers’ subjective preoperative feelings and postoperative exhaust time. Results The study found that mothers in the hydrolyzed whey protein group had reduced visual hunger (p=0.002) and anxiety (p<0.001) while having higher neonatal blood glucose levels (p=0.041) compared to the placebo group. This group also had higher prolactin levels (p=0.009) and a reduced the number of milk additions in the first 48 hours of a newborn’s life (No-BreakpNo-Break=0.035). Conclusion Hydrolyzed whey protein intake during the cesarean section perioperative period reduces maternal hunger and anxiety, increases serum prolactin levels 3-4 hours after surgery, increases the infant’s blood glucose level 30 minutes after birth, and reduces milk supplementation in the first 48 hours.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Milk production traits are complex traits with vital economic importance in the camel industry. However, the genetic mechanisms regulating milk production traits in camels remain poorly understood. Therefore, we aimed to identify candidate genes and metabolic pathways that affect milk production traits in Bactrian camels. METHODS We classified camels (fourth parity) as low- or high-yield, examined pregnant camels using B-mode ultrasonography, observed the microscopic changes in the mammary gland using hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, and used RNA sequencing to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and pathways. RESULTS The average standard milk yield over the 300 days during parity was recorded as 470.18 ± 9.75 and 978.34 ± 3.80 kg in low- and high-performance camels, respectively. Nine female Junggar Bactrian camels were subjected to transcriptome sequencing, and 609 and 393 DEGs were identified in the low-yield vs. high-yield (WDL vs. WGH) and pregnancy versus colostrum period (RSQ vs. CRQ) comparison groups, respectively. The DEGs were compared with genes associated with milk production traits in the Animal Quantitative Trait Loci database and in Alashan Bactrian camels, and 65 and 46 overlapping candidate genes were obtained, respectively. Functional enrichment and protein-protein interaction network analyses of the DEGs and candidate genes were conducted. After comparing our results with those of other livestock studies, we identified 16 signaling pathways and 27 core candidate genes associated with maternal parturition, estrogen regulation, initiation of lactation, and milk production traits. The pathways suggest that emerged milk production involves the regulation of multiple complex metabolic and cellular developmental processes in camels. Finally, the RNA sequencing results were validated using quantitative real-time PCR; the 15 selected genes exhibited consistent expression changes. CONCLUSIONS This study identified DEGs and metabolic pathways affecting maternal parturition and milk production traits. The results provides a theoretical foundation for further research on the molecular mechanism of genes related to milk production traits in camels. Furthermore, these findings will help improve breeding strategies to achieve the desired milk yield in camels.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is the most diagnosed cancer worldwide, mainly affecting the epithelial cells from the mammary glands. When it expresses the estrogen receptor (ER), the tumor is called luminal BC, which is eligible for endocrine therapy with hormone signaling blockade. Hormone therapy is essential for the survival of patients, but therapeutic resistance has been shown to be worrying, significantly compromising the prognosis. In this context, the need to explore new compounds emerges, especially compounds of plant origin, since they are biologically active and particularly promising. Natural products are being continuously screened for treating cancer due to their chemical diversity, reduced toxicity, lower side effects, and low price. This review summarizes natural compounds for the treatment of luminal BC, emphasizing the activities of these compounds in ER-positive cells. Moreover, their potential as an alternative to endocrine resistance is explored, opening new opportunities for the design of optimized therapies.

Abstract
The RANK-RANKL-OPG system is a complex signaling pathway that plays a critical role in bone metabolism, mammary epithelial cell development, immune function, and cancer. RANKL is a ligand that binds to RANK, a receptor expressed on osteoclasts, dendritic cells, T cells, and other cells. RANKL signaling promotes osteoclast differentiation and activation, which leads to bone resorption. OPG is a decoy receptor that binds to RANKL and inhibits its signaling. In cancer cells, RANKL expression is often increased, which can lead to increased bone resorption and the development of bone metastases. RANKL-neutralizing antibodies, such as denosumab, have been shown to be effective in the treatment of skeletal-related events, including osteoporosis or bone metastases, and cancer. This review will provide a comprehensive overview of the functions of the RANK-RANKL-OPG system in bone metabolism, mammary epithelial cells, immune function, and cancer, together with the potential therapeutic implications of the RANK-RANKL pathway for cancer management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accurate diagnosis of breast cancer (BC) plays a crucial role in clinical pathology analysis and ensuring precise surgical margins to prevent recurrence. METHODS Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technology offers high sensitivity to tissue biochemistry, making it a potential tool for noninvasive BC identification. In this study, we utilized hyperspectral (HS) imaging data of stimulated BC specimens to detect malignancies based on altered fluorescence characteristics compared to normal tissue. Initially, we employed a HS camera and broadband spectrum light to assess the absorbance of BC samples. Notably, significant absorbance differences were observed in the 440-460 nm wavelength range. Subsequently, we developed a specialized LIF system for BC detection, utilizing a low-power blue laser source at 450 nm wavelength for ten BC samples. RESULTS Our findings revealed that the fluorescence distribution of breast specimens, which carries molecular-scale structural information, serves as an effective marker for identifying breast tumors. Specifically, the emission at 561 nm exhibited the greatest variation in fluorescence signal intensity for both tumor and normal tissue, serving as an optical predictive biomarker. To enhance BC identification, we propose an advanced image classification technique that combines image segmentation using contour mapping and K-means clustering (K-mc, K = 8) for HS emission image data analysis. CONCLUSIONS This exploratory work presents a potential avenue for improving "in-vivo" disease characterization using optical technology, specifically our LIF technique combined with the advanced K-mc approach, facilitating early tumor diagnosis in BC.

Abstract
The human mammary gland is the major organ involved in lactation. In the mammary gland, alveoli secrete milk and myoepithelial cells contract to propel the milk through branched structures called ducts and eventually to the nipple. It is through this process of lactation that infants receive milk, which is essential for proper infant growth and development. The lactation process is comprised of sophisticated interactive networks at the cellular level that are not well understood. Whereas the majority of published mammary gland lactation studies have relied on mouse mammary glands, recent advancements in techniques to study mammary glands enable in vitro reproduction of lactation using human-representative frameworks. Currently, the 3D breast organoid is the state-of-the-art model in human mammary gland research, utilizing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) or processed patient-derived breast tissues embedded in a special matrix that are then able to grow into complex structures that recapitulate aspects of native human breast tissue. Gaining comprehensive biological insight into the process of lactation through these breast tissue-mimetic 3D models is essential for further studies on lactation-associated human mammary gland diseases, human milk composition, and potential solutions to challenges in maternal milk accessibility. In this short review, the benefits and potential utility of 3D breast organoids in understanding the underlying science of lactation and advancing further human mammary gland studies are discussed.

Abstract
Cancer, the second leading cause of mortality worldwide, has been the subject of extensive and quickly changing scientific study and practice. Cancer remains a mystery despite the enormous effort put into understanding the genesis of cancerous cells, the development of malignant tissues, and the process by which they propagate and recur. Cells from humans that have been recruited by cancer and, to some extent, changed into pathogenic organisms or the foundation of tumors serve as agents of destruction. Understanding cancers leads to challenging philosophical issues since they undermine and use multicellular organization processes. Cancer metastasizing cells adopt new phenotypes while discarding previous behaviors. The absence of comprehensive knowledge of this has hampered the development of therapeutics for metastatic illness. For systems-level experimental and computational metastasis modeling, integrating these complex and interconnected features continues to be a problem because metastasis has typically been studied in separate physiological compartments. Lung, breast, and prostate cancers accounted for the bulk of the 18 million new cases of cancer that were diagnosed in 2018. The most frequent cancer in women is breast cancer. Animal experimentation plays a significant role in primary and translational breast cancer research. In theory, such breast cancer models should be comparable to breast cancer in humans in terms of tumor etiology, biological behavior, pathology, and treatment response.

Abstract
Breastfeeding is the gold standard of infant nutrition and current guidelines suggest exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, with continued breastfeeding through 24 months or beyond. Obstetric care professionals can encourage and educate their patients about breastfeeding through the prenatal period when many expectant parents make decisions about their infant feeding choices. Education and support should extend through the postpartum period and include parents who may have concerns surrounding medical comorbidities, breast augmentation, or substance use disorders.

Abstract
Breast cancer is one of the most common and well-known types of cancer among women worldwide and is the most frequent neoplasm in intact female dogs. Female dogs are considered attractive models or studying spontaneous breast cancer, whereas female rats are currently the most widely used animal models for breast cancer research in the laboratory context. Both female dogs and female rats have contributed to the advancement of scientific knowledge in this field, and, in a "One Health" approach, they have allowed broad understanding of specific biopathological pathways, influence of environmental factors and screening/discovery of candidate therapies. This review aims to clearly showcase the similarities and differences among woman, female dog and female rat concerning to anatomical, physiological and histological features of the mammary gland and breast/mammary cancer epidemiology, in order to better portray breast tumorigenesis, and to ensure appropriate conclusions and extrapolation of results among species. We also discuss the major aspects that stand out in these species. The mammary glands of female dogs and women share structural similarities, especially with respect to the lactiferous ducts and lymphatic drainage. In contrast, female rats have only one lactiferous duct per nipple. A comprehensive comparison between humans and dogs is given a special focus, as these species share several aspects in terms of breast/mammary cancer epidemiology, such as age of onset, hormonal etiology, risk factors, and the clinical course of the disease. Holistically, it is clear that each species has advantages and limitations that researchers must consider during the development of experimental designs and data analysis.

Abstract
Our purpose is to provide new insights concerning the challenges of pituitary apoplexy in pregnancy (PAP) and the postpartum period (PAPP). This is a narrative review of the English literature using a PubMed search. The inclusion criteria were clinically relevant original studies (January 2012-December 2022). Overall, we included 35 original studies: 7 observational studies (selected cases on PA) and 28 case reports, including 4 case series (N = 49; PAP/PAPP = 43/6). The characteristics of PAP patients (N = 43) are as follows: maternal age between 21 and 41 (mean of 27.76) years; 21/43 subjects with a presentation during the third trimester (only one case during first trimester); average weak of gestation of 26.38; most females were prim gravidae; 19 (out of 30 patients with available data on delivery) underwent a cesarean section. Headache remains the main clinical feature and is potentially associated with a heterogeneous panel (including visual anomalies, nausea, vomiting, cranial nerve palsies, diabetes insipidus, photophobia, and neck stiffness). Pre-pregnancy medication included dopamine agonists (15/43) and terguride (1/43) in addition to subsequent insulin therapy for gestational diabetes (N = 2) and type 1 diabetes mellitus (N = 1). Overall, 29/43 females received the conservative approach, and 22/43 women had trans-sphenoidal surgery (TSS) (and 10/22 had the initial approach). Furthermore, 18/43 patients had a pituitary adenoma undiagnosed before pregnancy. Most PA-associated tumors were prolactinomas (N = 26/43), with the majority of them (N = 16/26) being larger than 1 cm. A maternal-fetal deadly outcome is reported in a single case. The characteristics of PAPP patients (N = 6) are as follows: mean age at diagnosis of 33 years; 3/6 subjects had PA during their second pregnancy; the timing of PA varied between 5 min and 12 days after delivery; headache was the main clinical element; 5/6 had no underlying pituitary adenoma; 5/6 patients were managed conservatively and 1/6 underwent TSS; pituitary function recovered (N = 3) or led to persistent hypopituitarism (N = 3). In conclusion, PAP represents a rare, life-threatening condition. Headache is the most frequent presentation, and its prompt distinction from other conditions associated with headache, such as preeclampsia and meningitis, is essential. The index of suspicion should be high, especially in patients with additional risk factors such as pre-gestation treatment with dopamine agonists, diabetes mellitus, anticoagulation therapy, or large pituitary tumors. The management is conservative in most cases, and it mainly includes corticosteroid substitution and dopamine agonists. The most frequent surgical indication is neuro-ophthalmological deterioration, although the actual risk of pituitary surgery during pregnancy remains unknown. PAPP is exceptionally reported. To our knowledge, this sample-case series study is the largest of its kind that is meant to increase the awareness to the benefit of the maternal-fetal outcomes from multidisciplinary insights.

Abstract
Breastfeeding has many benefits for infant growth and maternal health, such as reducing breast cancer risk. However, data on maternal factors influencing breastfeeding are insufficient. To clarify the associations between maternal lifestyle and diet during pregnancy and exclusive breastfeeding (EBF), we conducted a prospective study of pregnant women within the framework of the Japan Environment and Children's Study (a nationwide birth cohort study). Of 97,413 pregnant women recruited between January 2011 and March 2014, 27,775 with a singleton first live birth whose dietary data during pregnancy and lactation data were complete were eligible. Using logistic regression, we evaluated the associations between lifestyle factors including smoking and prepregnancy body mass index and intake of nutrients (macronutrients, isoflavones, and dietary fiber), some of which are known risk factors of breast cancer, and EBF for one month postpartum (initiation of EBF). To investigate the associations of these factors with EBF for 6 months (continuation of EBF), 9582 women who had successfully completed one-month EBF were further followed up. Smoking and prepregnancy obesity were inversely associated with the initiation and continuation of EBF. Intakes of protein, fat, isoflavone, and dietary fiber were positively associated (p trend = 0.0001 for dietary fiber), and carbohydrate intake was inversely associated with the initiation of EBF. Dietary fiber intake was also associated with the continuation of EBF (p trend = 0.048). These findings indicate that maternal lifestyles during pregnancy affect lactation performance. Lifestyle adjustments during pregnancy may have favorable effects on maternal and children's health through successful breastfeeding.

Abstract
Introduction Introduction: nutrient and trace element deficiency are risk factors for the development of preeclampsia; these nutrients induce changes in the hematologic state, which can be used to prevent complications during pregnancy. Objective: this research will analyze the nutritional and hematological status during the 3 trimesters of gestation in pregnant women with preeclampsia to evaluate its association with gestational alterations. Method: a cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytic study was conducted on 78 pregnant women who attended a prenatal control clinic, 11 of whom were diagnosed with preeclampsia. The hematological parameters were determined through hematometry. To get the nutritional intake profile of the pregnant women, a frequency of food consumption questionnaire was used. Results: the normotensive group´s arterial pressure (PA) was significantly lower than that of pregnant women with preeclampsia. The hematological profile changed during pregnancy, and platelet value was much higher in preeclamptic women. The nutritional status of pregnant women in the third trimester consumed more macronutrients and micronutrients than in the first and second trimesters, and this pattern was observed in pregnant women with preeclampsia. When compared to pregnant women with preeclampsia, normotensive women received more minerals and vitamins. Conclusion: hematological values are modified during each trimester of gestation, and pregnant women with preeclampsia had high platelet values compared to normotensive women. Our data show a greater intake of minerals and vitamins in normotensive pregnant women as compared to those who developed preeclampsia; therefore, it is recommended that pregnant women be provided with nutritional guidance in order to prevent pregnant complications.

Abstract
Purpose: Hyperprolactinaemia has been proposed to play a role in breast lesions pathophysiology. Thus far, controversial results have been reported for the relationship between hyperprolactinaemia and breast lesions. Moreover, the prevalence of hyperprolactinaemia in a population with breast lesions is scarcely reported. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of hyperprolactinaemia in Chinese premenopausal women with breast diseases, and explore the associations between hyperprolactinaemia with different clinical characteristics. Methods: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study performed in the department of breast surgery of Qilu hospital of Shandong University. Overall, 1,461 female patients who underwent the serum prolactin (PRL) level assay before breast surgery from January 2019 to December 2020 were included. Patients were divided into two groups: before and after menopause. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 software. Results: The results showed an elevated PRL level in 376 of the 1,461 female patients with breast lesions (25.74%). Furthermore, the proportion of hyperprolactinemia among premenopausal patients with breast disease (35.75%, 340/951) was significantly higher than among postmenopausal patients with breast disease (7.06%, 36/510). In premenopausal patients, the proportion of patients with hyperprolactinaemia and the mean serum PRL level were significantly higher in those diagnosed with fibroepithelial tumours (FETs) and in younger patients (aged < 35 years) than in those with non-neoplastic lesions and in those aged ≥ 35 years (both p < 0.05). Especially, the prolactin level exhibited steady ascending tendency for positive correlation with FET. Conclusion: Hyperprolactinaemia is prevalent in Chinese premenopausal patients with breast diseases, especially in those with FETs, which implies a potential association, to some extent, between the PRL levels in various breast diseases.

Abstract
Pregnancy-associated breast cancer (PABC) is commonly defined as a breast cancer occurring during pregnancy, throughout 1 year postpartum, or during lactation. Despite being a rare circumstance, PABC is one of the most common types of malignancies occurring during pregnancy and lactation, with growing incidence in developed countries, due both to decreasing age at onset of breast cancer and to increasing maternal age. Diagnosis and management of malignancy in the prenatal and postnatal settings are challenging for practitioners, as the structural and functional changes that the breast undergoes may be misleading for both the radiologist and the clinician. Furthermore, safety concerns for the mother and child, as well as psychological aspects in this unique and delicate condition, need to be constantly considered. In this comprehensive review, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of PABC (including surgery, chemotherapy and other systemic treatments, and radiotherapy) are presented and fully discussed, based on medical literature, current international clinical guidelines, and systematic practice.

Abstract
Women in the UK have a 15% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. Like other high-income countries, women in the UK are having children later in life which increases their risk. The risk of breast cancer is reduced by 4.3% for every 12 months of breastfeeding, this is in addition to the 7.0% decrease in risk observed for each birth. Breastfeeding reduces the risk of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (20%) and in carriers of BRCA1 mutations (22-55%). The mechanisms of reduced risk as a result of pregnancy are related to changes in RNA processing and cellular differentiation. The UK has a low rate of breastfeeding (81%) and this is contrasted to countries with higher (Sweden, Australia) and lower rates (Ireland). The low UK rate is in part due to a lack of experience in the population, todays grandmothers have less experience with breastfeeding (62%) than their daughters. An estimated 4.7% of breast cancer cases in the UK are caused by not breastfeeding. The UK only has 43% of maternity services with full Baby-Friendly accreditation which promotes compliance with the WHO 'Ten Steps to Successful Breast Feeding'. Legislation in the UK and Europe is far short of the WHO Guidance on restricting the advertising of formula milk. Expansion of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, stricter laws on the advertising of formula milk and legislation to support nursing mothers in the workplace have the potential to increase breastfeeding in the UK. Women with a family history of breast cancer should particularly be supported to breastfeed as a way of reducing their risk.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to establish a relationship between the amount of Montgomery tubercles (MTs) per nipple-areolar complex (NAC) given patient characteristics such as age, BMI, menopausal status, race/ethnicity, and NAC size to better inform current 3D NAC tattooing practices. METHODS Preoperative photographs of patients pursuing breast reconstruction after mastectomy in 2010 through 2018 were reviewed. The number of MTs on each native NAC was quantified. The impact of patient factors on the quantity of MTs was evaluated via Pearson correlation and bivariate analyses. RESULTS Two hundred and eleven patients (399 breasts) were reviewed. On average, patients had 5.0 ± 5.2 MTs (range, 0-25 MTs). Number of MTs did not correlate with patient age, BMI, or NAC size. Premenopausal females were more likely than postmenopausal females to have a greater number of MTs per breast (p-value = 0.0183). CONCLUSIONS Postmastectomy patients desiring a more "youthful" NAC may consider additional MTs when pursuing 3D NAC tattooing.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to establish a system for measuring breast underling pressure, evaluate the degree of sustained underling pressure, and verify basic data on the breast lifting distance to improve it. We measured the lifting distance and force at which 24 adult women felt comfortable when their breasts were lifted with an uncovered cloth. The results revealed that the larger the breast size, the greater the pull-up distance and the wider the lifting distance perceived as comfortable. The validity of the measurement method in this study was determined to be useful for the measurement of breast ptosis pressure and breast ptosis position because the measurement was performed at least three times per participant, and the error was small. In the future, we would like to clarify the type of brassiere that supports the breast and gives women a sense of comfort.

Abstract
The review focuses on mechanistic evidence for the link between obesity and breast cancer. According to the IARC study, there is sufficient evidence that obesity is closely related to a variety of cancers. Among them, breast cancer is particularly disturbed by adipose tissue due to the unique histological structure of the breast. The review introduces the relationship between obesity and breast cancer from two aspects, including factors that promote tumorigenesis or metastasis. We summarize alterations in adipokines and metabolic pathways that contribute to breast cancer development. Breast cancer metastasis is closely related to obesity-induced pro-inflammatory microenvironment, adipose stem cells, and miRNAs. Based on the mechanism by which obesity causes breast cancer, we list possible therapeutic directions, including reducing the risk of breast cancer and inhibiting the progression of breast cancer. We also discussed the risk of autologous breast remodeling and fat transplantation. Finally, the causes of the obesity paradox and the function of enhancing immunity are discussed. Evaluating the balance between obesity-induced inflammation and enhanced immunity warrants further study.

Abstract
The mammary gland of mammals possesses the specific function of synthesizing, secreting, and delivering milk. Notably, mammary epithelial cells are considered to be central to control the expansion and remodeling of mammary gland into a milk-secretory organ. And the biological function of mammary gland is mainly regulated by the endocrine system, especially for estrogen. G protein-coupled receptor 30 (GPR30), an estrogen membrane receptor, mediates estrogen-induced functions of physiology and pathophysiology. However, the relationship between estrogen/GPR30 signaling and proliferation of goat mammary epithelial cells (gMECs) is still unclear. Herein, estrogen promoted cell proliferation than control, as evidence by upregulation of cell numbers, BrdU-positive cell counts, and cell viability. Of note, these activities were all obviously reduced by treatment with GPR30 antagonist G15, yet GPR30 agonist G1 increased cell proliferation than control. Further, GPR30 silencing inhibited cell proliferation than negative control. This inhibition was accompanied by a G2/M phase arrest and downregulation of cell cycle regulators. Meanwhile, estrogen increased the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and AKT. Further, the protein level of p-ERK1/2 and p-AKT was enhanced by GPR30 agonist G1 but inhibited by GPR30 antagonist G15 and GPR30 silencing. Importantly, MEK inhibitor and PI3K inhibitor decreased the expression of cell cycle regulators, and repressed estrogen-induced and G1-driven promotion of cell proliferation, suggesting that estrogen regulated cell proliferation of gMECs through mechanisms involving cell cycle, dependent of GPR30 and MEK/ERK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Abstract
The assessment of body composition during lactation is an important indicator of maternal nutritional status, which is central to the overall health of the mother and child. The lactating woman's nutritional status potentially impacts on breastmilk composition and the process of lactation itself. The purpose of this scoping review was to synthesize comparative studies that sought to validate various body composition assessment techniques for use in lactating women in the postpartum period. Using the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a comprehensive, systematic literature search was conducted using Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed. Eight comparative studies were included in the review, with data from 320 postpartum women. The design methodologies varied substantially across studies, and included a range of simple techniques to advanced multi-compartment models for assessing body composition. The validity and reliability of measurement tools must be considered alongside issues of safety, practicality, and appropriateness to guide the research design when applied to lactating women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity are negatively associated with delayed onset of lactogenesis II (OL), but the mechanisms by which these conditions affect OL are still unclear. OBJECTIVES To identify biological factors related to pre-pregnancy overweight/obesity and determine whether these biological factors were associated with delayed OL in this population. METHODS In this prospective observational study, we assigned 72 primipara to a pre-pregnancy overweight/obese group (n = 36) and a normal-weight group (n = 36). Blood samples were collected at 37 w of gestation and 48 h postpartum and assayed for levels of the following hormones: leptin, insulin, estradiol, prolactin (PRL), progesterone, and oxytocin. The primary outcome was timing of OL, estimated by maternal perception of breast fullness. We used linear-regression analysis to determine associations between hormones and delayed OL. RESULTS Sixty-three participants (87.5%) had complete data. OL occurred later in overweight/obese than in normal-weight women (p < .001). Compared with the normal-weight group, the overweight/obese group showed higher leptin levels at both times of observation and exhibited a slower drop in estrogen concentrations from 37 w of gestation to 48 h postpartum (all p < .05). After adjusting for confounding factors, leptin concentrations in late pregnancy and the magnitudes of decline in estrogen concentrations at 48 h postpartum were correlated with OL. CONCLUSION Women who were overweight/obese before pregnancy had elevated leptin levels in late pregnancy and a delayed decline in estrogen concentrations at 48 h postpartum. Both of these phenomena were related to delayed OL in this population.

Abstract
We have studied the effect of biologically active preparation of metabolic-neurotropic action “Glutam 1M” on milk productivity of cows and quality indicators of raw milk. This preparation was used for dry cows in the last trimester of pregnancy. Studies were performed in the private agricultural enterprise “Savertsi” of Popilnyansky district of Zhytomyr region on cows of Holstein breed. The biologically active preparation “Glutam 1M” has been administered to the cows of the experimental groups under the skin behind the shoulder blade in an amount of 20 ml, starting from 270 and 265 days of gestation, once a day for three consecutive days. Cows of control groups were injected with saline in the same dose. Using the biologically active preparation “Glutam 1M”, a milk yield decreased slightly by 2% (91.9 kg). The milk yield increased by 2.9% (141.5 kg) in the control group. 305-days milk yield in the control group of cows was almost the same as in the previous lactation period. During the experiment, the experimental group of cows – has decreased by 2.9% (136.5 kg). A similar situation has been observed during the biologically active preparation “Glutam 1M” on the 270 – 272th days of pregnancy. Milk yield in the experimental group of animals for the previous lactation and after the use of preparation remained almost at the same level in the control group – decreased by 4.7% (207.1 kg). 305-days milk yield in the control group of cows for the previous and post-lactation experiment period was almost the same. In the experimental group of animals, there was an increase in this indicator by 2.7% (128.7 kg). The use of the “Glutam 1M” preparation did not affect milk quality, namely the mass fraction of fat and protein; fluctuations of the above indicators stayed within the error.

Abstract
There are many organochlorine pollutants in the environment, which can be directly or indirectly exposed to by mothers, and as estrogen endocrine disruptors can cause damage to the lactation capacity of the mammary gland. In addition, because breast milk contains a lot of nutrients, it is the most important food source for new-born babies. If mothers are exposed to organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), the lipophilic organochlorine contaminants can accumulate in breast milk fat and be passed to the infant through breast milk. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate organochlorine contaminants in human milk to estimate the health risks of these contaminants to breastfed infants. In addition, toxic substances in the mother can also be passed to the fetus through the placenta, which is also something we need to pay attention to. This article introduces several types of OCPs, such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), methoxychlor (MXC), hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), endosulfan, chlordane, heptachlorand and hexachlorobenzene (HCB), mainly expounds their effects on women's lactation ability and infant health, and provides reference for maternal and infant health. In addition, some measures and methods for the control of organochlorine pollutants are also described here.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Early life exposures to marine contaminants can adversely impact child health but modes of action are unclear. Human milk contains extracellular vesicles (EVs) that can transport biologically relevant cargo from mother to infant, including microRNAs (miRNAs), and may partly mediate the effects of pollutants on child health. However, the role of marine pollutants on miRNA expression in milk EVs is unexplored. METHODS We isolated EV RNA from 333 milk samples collected between 2 and 74 days postpartum from a Faroese birth cohort born 1997-2000 and sequenced 2083 miRNAs using a targeted library preparation method. We quantified five perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pesticide metabolite p,p'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), and the sum of three major polychlorinated biphenyls (ΣPCBs) in maternal serum at 34 weeks of gestation and maternal hair total mercury (Hg) at birth. We used negative binomial regressions to estimate associations between individual pollutants and 418 reliably expressed EV-miRNAs adjusted for potential confounders. We performed sparse principal components (PCs) analysis to derive the first four components of the EV-miRNA data and examined associations between pollutants and PCs using Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR). RESULTS We observed no associations between pollutants and individual EV-miRNA expression after controlling the false discovery rate at 0.1. However, BKMR suggested that Hg was positively associated with PC1 and negatively associated with PC3, while ΣPCBs was negatively associated with PC3, and two PFAS were associated with PC4. Exploration of PC loadings followed by pathway analyses suggested that miRNAs in PC1 (miR-200b-3p, miR-664a-3p, miR-6738-5p, miR-429, miR-1236-5p, miR-4464, and miR-30b-5p) may be related to Hg neurotoxicity, while remaining PCs require further research. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that groups of milk EV-miRNAs may better serve as environmental biomarkers than individual miRNAs. Future studies are needed to elucidate the role of milk EV-miRNAs in child health following prenatal exposures.

Abstract
Breastfeeding, given its biochemical and physiological basis, is known for its many benefits for both the lactating mother and the infant. Among the many challenges new breastfeeding mothers experience is the feeling of aversion in response to their newborn's suckling which has been termed dysphoric milk-ejection reflex (D-MER). Characterized by intense feelings of dysphoria which may eventually interfere with the mother's ability to breastfeed regularly, evidence suggests both the neurobiological and psychological basis of D-MER in an attempt to explain its complexity. Biologically, breastfeeding is expressed by the intracerebral release of oxytocin, an increased expression of oxytocin receptors in specific brain regions, increased mesocorticolimbic reward region activation, the secretion of prolactin and possibly the inhibition of dopamine. Hence, different theories explain D-MER in terms of disrupted neurotransmitter and hormonal activity. Breastfeeding has also proven to influence mood and stress reactivity in nursing mothers with a potential link with postpartum depression. Psychological theories attempt to explain D-MER from a sociopsychosexual lense shedding light on the significance of mother-infant attachment, the sexualization of the female body and the motherhood experience as a developmental stage in a woman's lifespan. The aim of this review is to provide a literature update of D-MER incorporating both neurobiological and psychological theories calling for raising awareness about the complexity of breastfeeding and for the need for mother-centered interventions for the management of D-MER and other postpartum-specific conditions.

Abstract
Milk supports the growth and development of infants. An increasing number of mostly recent studies have demonstrated that milk contains a hitherto undescribed component called extracellular vesicles (EVs). This presents questions regarding why milk contains EVs and what their function is. Recently, we showed that EVs in human milk expose tissue factor, the protein that triggers coagulation or blood clotting, and that milk-derived EVs promote coagulation. Because bovine milk, which also contains EVs, completely lacks this coagulant activity, important differences are present in the biological functions of human milk-derived EVs between species. In this review, we will summarize the current knowledge regarding the presence and biochemical composition of milk EVs, their function(s) and potential clinical applications such as in probiotics, and the unique problems that milk EVs encounter in vivo, including survival of the gastrointestinal conditions encountered in the newborn. The main focus of this review will be human milk-derived EVs, but when available, we will also include information regarding non-human milk for comparison.
