Abstract
CONTEXT Oral health and food oral-processing issues emerge with functional decline in the older adult population, potentially increasing the risk of malnutrition. Impairment of oral health is associated with poorer nutrition status; however, the relationship between oral factors and the intake of each nutrient remains poorly understood. OBJECTIVE The associations between different oral factors and nutrient intakes among community-dwelling older adults were investigated. DATA SOURCES A literature search from 5 databases (Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Ovid [MEDLINE and Embase], and CINAHL) was completed on February 1, 2022. The search was limited to peer-reviewed articles published between the years 2012 and 2022. DATA EXTRACTION Six cross-sectional studies were included in the meta-analysis. Two authors independently completed the data extraction and summarized the study characteristics, factors adjusted for in the statistical analysis, the outcome, and summary statistics of the results. DATA ANALYSIS Meta-analyses showed evidence of a significant association between compromised oral factors (namely, denture status, chewing ability, and the number of teeth) with lower energy (weighted mean difference [WMD], -107 kcal d-1 (95% CI, -132 to -81), protein (WMD, -5.2 g d-1; 95% CI, -6.6 to -3.8), fat (WMD, -4.6 g d-1; 95% CI, -6.7 to -2.6), carbohydrate (WMD, -8.8 g d-1; 95% CI, -13.9 to -3.7), and vitamin C intakes (WMD, -12.9 mg d-1; 95% CI, -16.6 to -9.2) in older adults. CONCLUSION Oral health can be an indicator of compromised daily energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, and vitamin C intakes in older adults. However, the small sample size of the studies included in this review and the heterogeneity among macronutrient studies should be considered. Because of the lack of studies covering all aspects of food oral processing (eg, salivary flow rate, tongue pressure), the associations between oral processing and nutrient intake were not thoroughly explored. Abstract
A Japanese national representative survey-the comprehensive survey of living conditions (CSLC)-included the Washington Group Short Set (WGSS) in 2022. This study aimed to characterize the WGSS in comparison to an existing disability measure (EDM), regarding the difference between disability prevalence defined by these two measures and the factors attributable to disagreements between them. A cross-sectional analysis using secondary data from the CSLC (n = 32,212) was conducted. The disability prevalences and their ratios (WGSS to EDM) were computed overall and by demographic sub-groups. Binomial logistic regression analyses were performed to explore factors relating to disagreements that functioned to relatively lower/increase the prevalence defined by the WGSS. Consequently, the prevalences defined by the WGSS and EDM were 10.7% (95% confidence interval (CI): 10.4-11.1) and 13.1% (95%CI: 12.7-13.5), respectively. The ratios by the sub-groups were around 0.80-0.90, with the exception of the age-defined sub-group, whose ratios were 0.63 (older sub-group) to 1.23 (child sub-group). Age was the only independent factor associated with two types of disagreements: older age (odds ratios: 1.23-1.80) was associated with disagreement functioning to relatively lower the prevalence defined by the WGSS, and similarly, younger age (ORs: 1.42-2.79) increased the figure. The WGSS may be characterized as being less susceptible to the influence of aging compared to the EDM.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: In Italy, as in the rest of the world, government restrictions aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 primarily imposed limitations on social relationships and personal behavior. This situation significantly affected the management of chronic illnesses, including type 2 diabetes (T2D). The objective was to evaluate the perceptions of patients with T2D regarding the quality of care received during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact on dietary and physical activity behaviors. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional survey. Data were collected from June to July 2023 using the convenience sampling of patients with T2D, and the Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (PACIC) and Medi-Lite questionnaires were administered. Results: During the research period, out of the 130 subjects who met all enrollment criteria, 103 patients were included in this study (79.23%). The results of the administered questionnaires were heterogeneous. The average scores from the PACIC Questionnaire for each question displayed significant variability, indicating a range of experiences in the quality of care. In the Medi-Lite survey, fruit, cereals, and olive oil showed the highest adherence levels, with mean scores ranging from 2.58 (SD ± 1.18) for fruit to 1.89 (SD ± 0.34) for olive oil and 1.97 (SD ± 0.17) for cereals. Patients who reported increased food intake during the lockdown attributed it to having more time to prepare meals. Physical activity levels remained unchanged for 48 patients, decreased for 45 patients, and only 9 patients managed to exercise more during the COVID-19 restrictions. Conclusions: Healthcare systems must prioritize comprehensive care plans for T2D that address not only physical health, but also emotional and social well-being. Post-pandemic, promoting healthier lifestyles and empowering patients to manage their condition is crucial. A multidisciplinary and multidimensional approach could support the care of vulnerable individuals, such as patients with T2D, especially during crises like pandemics or other dramatic events.

Abstract
Introduction malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies are pressing health concerns, particularly among the elderly. As this population is vulnerable to nutritional imbalances, understanding the prevalence and contributing factors is crucial for designing targeted interventions. This pilot study focuses on assessing the extent of these issues among elderly people attending a geriatric center in the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Methods this study employs a cross-sectional design, involving a sample of elderly individuals attending a geriatric center at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Anthropometric measurements and dietary assessments were conducted using the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) tool. A structured questionnaire was used to gather information on socio-demographic factors and other medical parameters. Continuous and categorical variables were compared respectively by Student's t-test or Chi-square test respectively. Results in this study, findings indicated that none of the participants exhibited malnutrition. Instead, 72.7% demonstrated a normal nutritional status, while 27.3% were identified as being at risk of malnutrition. A lesser fraction had deficiency of vitamins A (10%) and D (1%). Furthermore, males aged 60-69 years and those above 80 years showed a higher likelihood of a favorable nutritional assessment compared to females. Conclusion the study revealed an absence of malnutrition among the elderly individuals attending the geriatric center in the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Notably, females had a higher probability of malnutrition compared to males. These findings underscore the importance of targeted nutritional interventions, especially among at-risk groups, to promote the overall well-being of this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Malnutrition is present in 20-50% of hospital patients but its recognition is often neither timely nor complete. The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) aims to improve this, but its successful implementation may be compromised by its dependence on (a choice of) prior screening tools and difficulties in consistent assessment of muscle mass. AIMS To explore different approaches to screening and muscle assessment in GLIM and to offer simpler choices for its more widespread application. METHODS (1) Data from 300 consenting in-patients provided Nutritional Risk Screening (NRS-2002), Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST), and Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) scores. GLIM scoring was preceded by NRS-2002 or MUST (using threshold scores of 1 or 2 for MUST), or no prior screening. The results of GLIM scoring preceded by different screening approaches were compared with those of SGA. (2) The literature on mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) and calf circumference (CC) as simple, non-invasive, objective methods of muscle assessment methods was reviewed (3) The cumulative times taken to obtain GLIM scores were measured and corrected for the different screening strategies. RESULTS (1) Participants' mean age was 60 years, 157 (52%) were female and mean BMI was 27.8 kg/m2. In comparison with SGA, GLIM with no prior screening had the highest sensitivity (65%) and negative predictive value (NPV) (76%), but the lowest specificity (90%) and positive predictive value (PPV) (84%). The equivalent figures for GLIM with prior MUST "1" were 62%, 75%, 93% and 88%; with prior NRS-2002, 55%∗, 73%, 98%∗ and 95%∗; and with prior MUST "2", 44%∗, 69%∗, 98%∗, 95%∗. The area under an ROC curve was the highest (0.78) when GLIM was performed without screening or with prior MUST "1". (2) Being less affected by oedema and gender differences than calf circumference, MUAC could serve as a standard globally accessible muscle mass assessment method which can be supplemented by technical approaches if available and deemed necessary. (3) The overall per-capita time requirement of GLIM was 240-245 s without prior screening, and was increased by 2-3% with prior MUST "1", by 27-29% with prior NRS-2002 and decreased by 8-9% with prior MUST "2". CONCLUSIONS Preceding GLIM by screening can decrease its sensitivity and increase overall time utilisation; "gold standard" muscle assessment is not globally accessible. Our results therefore support considering using GLIM as a combined screening and assessment tool, with MUAC as the method of muscle assessment which can be supplemented by technical approaches if available and deemed necessary. This could potentially both simplify the use of GLIM and improve the early detection of malnutrition. ∗Indicates statistically significant difference from use of GLIM without prior screening.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES The growing aging population has led to an increased utilization of senior daycare centers. This study was conducted to design a program to enhance the health of older adults in senior daycare centers in Chuncheon City, South Korea. SUBJECTS/METHODS The study explored the health conditions and dietary patterns of older adults in senior daycare centers. Participants included staff and older adults from senior daycare centers in Chuncheon City. A mixed methods research design was used to obtain both qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative insights were obtained through in-depth interviews with 26 staff members and older adults, coupled with observations made at 10 senior daycare centers. The quantitative component comprised structured questionnaires and physical measurements of 204 older adults at these centers. RESULTS Many of the older adults relied on the meals provided by the center due to their limited cooking abilities. Dental health issues and dysphagia were common. Interviews highlighted the budgetary constraints of the centers in providing wholesome meals and the need for government support to alleviate meal expenses and enhance quality. A structured survey of older adults showed that the average age was 83.3 yrs, with an average of 2 chronic conditions per participant. Frailty analysis of the participants revealed that 56.2% were prefrail and 32.0% were frail. Almost half of the participants (47.0%) used dentures. Based on these findings, a preventive intervention program was proposed, addressing the specific needs and challenges of older adults while promoting overall well-being and preventing frailty. CONCLUSION Tailored health promotion strategies are crucial in senior daycare centers. Recommended interventions include staff nutrition education, improved dietary plans, and cost-effective strength training programs. These interventions aim to reduce frailty and enhance the quality of life of older adults in the community via interventions in daycare centers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Living alone is a prevalent psychological issue that has been found to have significant implications for lifestyle and health status. While considerable research has been conducted to explore the relationship between living alone and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the majority of studies have been cross-sectional, leaving direct correlations elusive. Therefore, this study aims to analyze data from longitudinal studies to determine whether living alone increases the risk of T2DM. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted in the PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases to identify studies examining the association between living alone and T2DM risk. The search encompassed studies published until September 2023. Pooled analysis utilized the random-effects model with inverse variance and included adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS The meta-analysis comprised a total of 8 studies, which consisted of 5 prospective cohort studies and 3 retrospective cohort studies. The total population under consideration included 11,686,677 individuals without T2DM, of whom 54.3% were female. Among this population, 396,368 individuals developed T2DM. To account for heterogeneity, a random-effects model was employed. Overall, the pooled data demonstrated a significant association between living alone and an increased risk of T2DM when compared to living with others (HR 1.24, 95% CI 1.06-1.46). Subgroup analysis revealed that this risk was not statistically significant for either males (HR 1.28, 95% CI 0.93-1.76) or females (HR 1.06, 95% CI 0.84-1.33), nor in prospective cohort studies (HR 1.26, 95% CI 0.91-1.74) or retrospective cohort studies (HR 1.26, 95% CI 0.91-1.74). CONCLUSION Individuals living alone faced a significantly higher risk of developing diabetes compared to those who did not live alone. However, no significant difference in this risk was observed between genders and study types. Further high-quality studies are necessary in the future to elucidate this causal association.

Abstract
Ageing is an inevitable process with numerous changes in a physiological, biological, cognitive, and social environment. The COVID-19 pandemic has posed an unprecedented public health crisis globally. Both the problems adversely affect the nutritional and health status of the elderly. Malnutrition, increase risk of chronic morbidities, low socioeconomic status along with social deprivations influence the health and well-being of old age. Lack of physical activity is common due to loss of skeletal muscle mass and an increase of fat mass eventually causes functional inability. The review aimed to report the impact of Covid-19 on the health and nutritional status of the elderly. A thorough recent literature search was conducted using PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases using specific keywords related to the aims. All related articles published on COVID-19 during 2020 and their effect on health and nutrition in the elderly were retrieved. The study found that nutritional status influences mortality and co-morbidities among the elderly during the COVID-19 situation. Furthermore, the study found that though nutritional indicators, that is, overweight or obese, significantly increase the risk of co-morbid conditions among older adults, good nutrition reduces the risk of all-cause mortality. Although ageing is an irreversible process, it is never too late to start practicing a healthy behavioral lifestyle for achieving healthy ageing.

Abstract
Oldest-old women are known to live at the intersection of multiple socioeconomic disadvantages in South Korean society. This study classified oldest-old Korean women into several socioeconomically homogeneous classes based on various socioeconomic status (SES) risks and compared health characteristics among the identified classes. This cross-sectional study utilized the 2019 Korean Community Health Survey, including data from 11,053 women (≥80 years). Latent class analysis determined the number of underlying socioeconomic classes based on nine selected SES variables. Four distinct socioeconomic classes were identified: “Urban, living alone, recipient of NBLSS, moderate education, leisure activity” (Class 1), “Rural, traditional house, living with others, not financially deprived, low education, employed” (Class 2), “Urban, living with family, financially affluent, not employed, no barriers to healthcare” (Class 3), “Rural, traditional house, living alone, financially deprived, uneducated, employed, barriers to healthcare” (Class 4). Depressive symptoms, subjective stress, and the prevalence of sleep disorder and diabetes were higher in Class 1 compared to other classes. Health-related quality of life, perceived health, and self-rated oral health were the poorest in Class 4. Class 3 reported the best health status. Understanding the intersecting SES risk factors in this group can aid in developing targeted interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate nutritional status and body composition in cognitively impaired older persons living alone. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 1051 older adults (633 women and 418 men, mean age: 77.1 years) from the Takashimadaira study. The study participants were categorized according to whether they lived alone, which was confirmed via questionnaire, and had cognitive impairment, which was defined as having a Mini Mental State Examination-Japanese score ≤23. Nutritional status was evaluated using the serum albumin level. The fat-free mass index (FFMI) was calculated based on anthropometric and body composition measurements. A logistic regression model with the outcome of a low serum albumin level (serum albumin <4 g/dL) and low FFMI (<16 kg/m2 in men and <14 kg/m2 in women) were used to analyze the data. RESULTS The percentages of participants in the living alone (-)/cognitive impairment (-) group, the living alone (+)/cognitive impairment (-) group, the living alone (-)/cognitive impairment (+) group, and the living alone (+)/cognitive impairment (+) group were 54.8%, 37.3%, 5.6%, and 2.3%, respectively. Compared to the living alone (-)/cognitive impairment (-) group, the living alone (+)/cognitive impairment (+) group was more likely to have a low serum albumin level (adjusted odds ratio = 3.10, 95% confidence interval = 1.31 to 7.33) and low FFMI (adjusted odds ratio = 2.79, 95% confidence interval = 1.10 to 7.06) after adjusting for potential confounders. CONCLUSION Cognitively impaired older adults living alone had poorer nutrition than cognitively normal and cohabitating persons in this study. Our results highlight the importance of paying extra attention to nutritional status for this group of community-dwelling older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few data are available on the nutritional status of Iranian geriatric population. The present study aimed to determine the nutritional status of older adults' population in Birjand, East of Iran. METHODS The community-based cohort study was performed on older adults population (60 years and older) living in urban and rural areas of Birjand. The mini nutritional assessment (MNA) questionnaire was used to assess nutritional status. Anthropometric and biochemical evaluation were also performed for all of the participants. RESULTS A total of 1417 geriatric person were enrolled in this study, which, most of them were female (51.9 %). According to MNA tool, most of the participants (73.3 %) had normal nutrition (MNA score ≥ 24). Malnourished (MNA score < 17) and at high risk of malnutrition (MNA score: 17- 23.5) were constituted 0.9 % and 25.8 % of the participants, respectively. Marital status, occupation, period of education and family member were associated with nutritional status. Multiple logistic regression showed that with increase of body mass index (BMI) (OR = 0.96), education years (OR = 0.95), hemoglobin (OR = 0.86) and lymphocyte (OR = 0.98), the odds of malnutrition decreased, but with increase of age the odds (1.03) of malnutrition is also elevated. CONCLUSIONS MNA could successfully forecast the risk of malnutrition and malnourished people. Sociodemographic factors are associated with the nutritional status.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS The older population across the world is rapidly increasing, raising the importance of a healthy and independent aging process and the factors affecting it. This study aimed to examine the food consumption habits and anthropometric measurements of older people according to their gender and the place of residence. METHODS A total of 121 healthy participants aged over 80 years who lived in rural (n:70) and urban (n:51) areas in the Aegean Region of Turkey were included in the study. A questionnaire was administered to determine the demographic data and nutritional status of the participants. Three-day food consumption was recorded and then analyzed using BeBiS 8.1. The participants' adherence to the Mediterranean diet and their Healthy Eating Index-2015 values were calculated based on their food consumption. The circumferences of the waist, hip, upper-mid arm and calf of the participants were measured by the researcher using an inelastic measuring tape. Weight, fat, muscle, water and basal metabolic rate were measured using the TANITA BC730 body impedance analyzer. RESULTS The mean weight, body mass index, circumferences of waist, hip and upper-mid arm,fat-free mass and basal metabolic rate were higher in the rural men than the urban ones (p < 0.05). The urban women had a higher waist-to-hip ratio than the rural ones (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the participants' adherence to the Mediterranean diet and their Healthy Eating Index values according to gender or the region they lived in. Nutrient intake was compared with the daily recommendations in the Turkish Nutrition Guide. It was found that the urban men consumed more carbohydrates, fats, vitamins A and C, and sodium. In contrast, energy, protein, fiber, vitamins E, D, B1, B2, B6 and B12, folic acid, magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc were consumed at lower amounts than recommendations. On the other hand, the rural men consumed more carbohydrates, fats, vitamins A, C and B2, folic acid, sodium and zinc. Similarly, the urban and rural women were found to have a higher intake of carbohydrates, fats, vitamins A and B2 and sodium and lower intake of other nutrients than recommendations. CONCLUSION Old age is one of the most sensitive periods in a person's life cycle. Place of residence during this period may physiologically affect food intake, physical activity, and therefore, anthropometric measurements. Healthcare providers should take into account that place of residence may alter older individuals' nutritional status and anthropometric measurements.

Abstract
We studied the association between living alone and the risk of incident type 2 diabetes in middle-aged individuals using nationwide cohort data from the Korean population. 11,686, 677 middle-aged individuals aged 40–64 years who underwent health examinations by the Korean National Health Insurance System between 2009 and 2012 were followed up until December 31, 2015. The hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analysis. During the median follow-up duration of 5.6 years, 393,438 individuals developed type 2 diabetes. Living alone was significantly associated with incident type 2 diabetes in all adjusted models (HR 1.08; 95% CI 1.07–1.09 in model 4). Individuals who lived alone for < 1 year and 1–7 years were associated with increased HRs of 1.07 (1.04–1.09) and 1.08 (1.07–1.09). Living alone was associated with incident type 2 diabetes in all subgroups. The association was stronger in men than in women and younger individuals than in older individuals. Living alone, even for a short duration, may be an important factor in type 2 diabetes development. Better household conditions and appropriate support to one-person households may be needed to prevent type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
Older adults are at increased risk of malnutrition, which is associated with poorer health, quality of life, and worse disease outcomes. This study identifies predictors of incident malnutrition using data from a subsample (n = 1,841) of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing. Participants were excluded if they were less than 65 years, missing body mass index data at baseline or follow-up, missing baseline weight loss data or malnourished at baseline (body mass index <20 kg/m2 or unplanned weight loss ≥4.5 kg in the previous year). Logistic regression analysis was performed with incident malnutrition (body mass index <20 kg/m2 and/or calculated weight loss >10% over follow-up) as the dependent variable. Factors showing significant (p < .05) univariate associations with incident malnutrition were entered into a multivariate model. The analysis was then repeated, stratified by sex. The 2-year incidence of malnutrition was 10.7%. Unmarried/separated/divorced status (vs married but not widowed), hospitalization in the previous year, difficulties walking 100 m, or climbing stairs independently predicted incident malnutrition at follow-up. When examined by sex, hospitalization in the previous year, falls during follow-up, and self-reported difficulties climbing stairs predicted malnutrition in males. Receiving social support and cognitive impairment predicted malnutrition in females. The development of malnutrition has a range of predictors. These can be assessed using simple questions to identify vulnerable persons.

Abstract
Background The oldest old (individuals over 90 years) are a fast-growing population. Characterizing their specificity would be helpful to adapt health care. This study aimed to characterize the cognitive, functional, nutritional, and physical status of individuals over 90. Methods We conducted a systematic review of cross-sectional or cohort studies of individuals aged 90 years old or more, living at home or in a nursing home, in April 2018. Two reviewers selected eligible articles, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias (assessed by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale). Results The search strategy identified 3086 references; 35 articles were included referring to 8 cross-sectional and 27 longitudinal studies. Dementia was diagnosed in 30–42.9% of study participants, cognitive impairment in 12–50%, and 31–65% had no cognitive impairment. In terms of activities of daily living, 14–72.6% of individuals had no difficulty, 35.6–38% had difficulty, and 14.4–55.5% were dependent. For instrumental activities of daily living, 20–67.9% needed help. Regarding nutritional status, the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short Form mean score ranged from 10.3 (SD: 1.8) to 11.1 (SD: 2.4). Eight to 32% of individuals could not stand up from a chair, 19–47% could stand without the use of their arms; and 12.9–15% were not able to walk 4 m. Conclusions These results suggest a heterogeneous population with a certain proportion of oldest old with a low level of disability. These findings suggest that a specific approach in the care of the oldest old could help prevent disability.

Abstract
Background The health condition of old age is affected by various factors such as economic level, disease condition, and nutrition. With the aging population in Korea, the ratio of single-person households increased rapidly. Research on the health status and nutrition of the elderly in the single-person household is very insufficient. In this study, we compared the health and nutritional status of the elderly by the household type. Methods Data from the 2013 to 2014 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used. A total of 2,730 patients were classified into 2 groups (single-person, with family), and general, chronic disease, health behavior, nutrient intake, and food insecurity status were compared by the statistical analysis. Results Single-person households had a low economic and educational level and a higher percentage of women. In addition, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, stroke, myocardial infarction disease rate was significantly higher. Sing-person households answered that their subjective health status was bad, and their quality of life was low. As a result of analysis of the quality of the diet in the single-person, the intake of protein, calcium, iron, vitamin B2, niacin, and vitamin C was significantly lower. In particular, the intake of calcium was the most insufficient. Food insecurity has also been observed, including the inability to consume diverse and sufficient foods due to economic difficulties. Conclusions More attention should be paid to the health of single-person households in elderly population and various policies should be prepared.

Abstract
RATIONALE Many malnutrition screening tools are used to screen for risk of malnutrition in older adults. An aim of the Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) 'A Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life' (HDHL) MalNutrition in the ELderly Knowledge hub (MaNuEL) is to devise recommendations on the best tools to screen for risk of malnutrition in older adults in community and healthcare settings across Europe. The aim of this paper was to develop and apply a scoring system to rate malnutrition screening tools. METHODS Using a targeted literature search strategy, 48 malnutrition screening tools used to screen for risk of malnutrition in older adults were identified across community, rehabilitation, residential care and hospital settings. Criteria to rate each tool were developed; these were based on published evidence and expert opinion. These criteria were translated into a scoring system. RESULTS The scoring system had three equally weighted sections; validation, parameters and practicability, and was applied to all 48 tools. Overall, the highest scoring tools per setting for screening for risk of malnutrition in older adults were i) DETERMINE your health checklist for the community setting; ii) the Nutritional Form for the Elderly (NUFFE) for the rehabilitation setting; iii) the Short Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire-Residential Care (SNAQRC) for residential care and iv) both the Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) and the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short Form Version 1 (MNA-SF-V1) for the hospital setting. CONCLUSION Setting-specific tools are more appropriate for use with older adults. These findings will inform recommendations for the optimal screening of geriatric malnutrition across Europe.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the association between nutritional risk and quality of life in community-dwelling elderly. METHOD A cross-sectional study of individuals aged 60 years or older living in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais was conducted. Nutritional status was evaluated using the Mini Nutritional Assessment, and quality of life was determined using the WHOQOL-bref and WHOQOL-old. The absolute and relative frequency distributions for each domain were calculated, and chi-square tests were used to examine the association between nutritional risk and quality of life (dichotomous variables). Poisson regression was used to perform univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS 789 (27.9%) of the 2823 elderly patients in the sample were at nutritional risk. The risk of malnutrition was associated with the physical, environment, psychological, sensory abilities, social participation and intimacy domains of quality of life [(PR= 1.42, 95%CI 1.23-1.63); (PR= 1.28, 95%CI 1.12-1.47); (PR= 1.18, 95%CI 1.03-1.36); (PR= 1.36, 95%CI 1.20-1.54); (PR= 1.29, 95%CI 1.13-1.46); (PR= 1.14, 95%CI 1.01-1.29); respectively]. CONCLUSION The present findings contribute to the understanding of nutritional risk, and support the association between quality of life and nutritional status. These factors should be considered in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of nutritional disorders, and may contribute to the prevention and reduction of nutritional risk in this especially vulnerable population.

Abstract
An open discussion between experts from life sciences and aeronautics has been held in order to investigate how both area of research overlap and could be relevant to each other, precisely on the topic of aging. Similarities in aging processes and prediction methodologies have been identified between human aging and aircraft aging. Two axis of collaboration have been raised: 1) The identification of the determinants in Aircraft aging (structural aging). 2) The development of P4 Systems medicine inspired new methodologies in the predictive maintenance.
