Abstract
Objective Despite persistent disparities in diabetes prevalence among racial and ethnic minorities, there remains a significant lack of understanding regarding the intersectionality of racial and ethnic groups and socioeconomic status (SES) with diabetes. Methods The data came from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES; N = 30,754, mean age = 47.4) using cross-sectional survey cycles from 2007 to 2008 through 2017-2020. Diabetes status was self-reported by physician diagnosis. Sociodemographic factors included racial and ethnic groups and SES. Weighted Poisson models were used to examine the association of racial and ethnic groups and SES with diabetes, stratified by age groups (20-44, 45-64, 65-79), sex, and racial and ethnic groups for SES, separately. Results Non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and other adults had a 47 %, 31 %, and 76 % higher prevalence of diabetes than non-Hispanic White adults, while adults from low and middle SES compared to high SES had a 37 % and 22 % higher prevalence of diabetes. Non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and other adults aged 45-64 years had a 45 %, 34 %, and 78 % higher prevalence of diabetes, and low and middle SES had a 57 % and 32 % higher prevalence of diabetes. Similar patterns were observed for adults aged 65-79. Males among non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and other adults and females from low and middle-SES families had a higher prevalence of diabetes. Conclusion Minority groups, middle and older-aged adults, males from minority groups, and females from low SES had a greater prevalence of diabetes. Effective interventions should prioritize tailoring efforts to specific minoritized and low SES groups to address diabetes disparities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The amount of regular physical activity (PA) can modulate the prevalence of traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) such as obesity, systemic hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, how different PA levels either below (< 600 MET min/week), within (600-1200 MET min/week), or above (> 1200 MET min/week) the range of the minimal WHO recommendations impact the age- and sex-dependent prevalence of these risk factors remains to be elucidated. METHODS This cross-sectional study was performed to evaluate these relationships using population-based self-reported data collected in a central European country (Austria, 2019). The sample included a total of 15,461 persons (7166 males: 16-95 + years, BMI 26.6 ± 4.4; 8295 females: 16-95 + years, BMI 25.1 ± 5.0). Besides various lifestyle factors (e.g., dietary habits, smoking, and alcohol consumption), variables of particular interest were the age- and sex-dependent amount of weekly PA and prevalence of risk factors for CVD. Sex-specific logistic regression analyses were applied to estimate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for the associations between self-reported PA and risk factor prevalence. RESULTS Relatively small beneficial effects were found regarding the prevalence of risk factors for CVD when achieving PA levels corresponding to 600-1200 MET min/week as compared to those who did not meet these recommendations. However, exceeding the WHO recommendations provided much more pronounced benefits, especially in younger and older age groups. Adjusted ORs revealed that high volumes of PA (> 1200 MET min/week) were associated with a 32-43% reduction in the prevalence of obesity and T2D compared to those who did not achieve the WHO recommendations (< 600 MET min/week), as well as with a lower prevalence of systemic hypertension only in women and a lower prevalence of hypercholesterolemia only in men. CONCLUSIONS Exceeding minimal WHO recommendations for PA promises large beneficial effects, particularly on the prevalence of obesity and T2D. Demonstrated sex differences in PA levels and their association with cardiovascular risk factors may provide an important basis for preventive health counseling.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of diabetes using structural equation modelling (SEM) to examine the pathways and associations of socioeconomic and lifestyle factors on diabetes in rural southwest China. DESIGN Data were collected from a cross-sectional health interview and examination survey among individuals aged ≥35 years in rural southwest China. Fasting blood glucose, blood pressure, height, weight and waist circumference (WC) were measured for each participant. SEM was employed to assess the relationships between demographic characteristics (sex, age and ethnicity), socioeconomic position (SEP; annual household income, education level and access to medical services), lifestyle factors (obesity status (body mass index and WC) and physical inactivity), hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and family history of diabetes. SETTING This study was conducted in rural Yunnan Province of China. PARTICIPANTS 7536 individuals aged ≥35 years consented to participate in the study. RESULTS The overall prevalence of diabetes in the present study was 8.3%. Prevalence did not differ by gender (prevalence for both men and women was 8.3% (p>0.05)). The results of SEM indicated that SEP, age, ethnicity, obesity status and physical inactivity had both significant direct and indirect effects on diabetes, with total effect size of 0.091, 0.149, -0.094, 0.212 and 0.089, respectively (p<0.01). Family history of diabetes (0.128, p<0.01), hypertension (0.135, p<0.01) and hyperlipidaemia (0.137, p<0.01) were directly associated with diabetes. CONCLUSIONS Socioeconomic and lifestyle factors have both direct and indirect effects on prevalence of diabetes in rural southwest China. Future efforts to implement comprehensive interventions to promote the prevention and control of diabetes should in particular focus on obese individuals.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Physical activity can reduce morbidity and mortality among adults with diabetes. Although rural disparities in physical activity exist among the general population, it is not known how these disparities manifest among adults with diabetes. METHODS Data from the 2020 and 2022 National Health Interview Survey were analyzed in 2023 to assess the prevalence of meeting aerobic and muscle-strengthening recommendations according to the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans during leisure time. Physical activity prevalence was computed by diabetes status, type of physical activity, and urban/rural residence (large central metropolitan, large fringe metropolitan, medium/small metropolitan, and nonmetropolitan). Logistic regression models were used to estimate prevalence and prevalence ratios of meeting physical activity recommendations by urban/rural residence across diabetes status. RESULTS Among adults with diabetes in nonmetropolitan counties, only 23.8% met aerobic, 10.9% met muscle-strengthening, and 6.2% met both physical activity recommendations. By contrast, among adults with diabetes in large fringe metropolitan counties, 32.1% met aerobic, 19.7% met strengthening, and 12.0% met both guidelines. Multivariable adjusted prevalence of meeting muscle-strengthening recommendations was higher among participants with diabetes in large fringe metropolitan than among large central metropolitan counties (prevalence ratio=1.27; 95% CI=1.03, 1.56). Among those without diabetes, adjusted prevalence of meeting each recommendation or both was lower in nonmetropolitan and small/medium metropolitan than in large central metropolitan counties. CONCLUSIONS Adults with diabetes are less likely to meet the physical activity recommendations than those without, and differences exist according to urban/rural status. Improving physical activity among rural residents with diabetes may mitigate disparities in diabetes-related mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adenosine triphosphatase inhibitory factor 1 (IF1) is a key protein involved in energy metabolism. IF1 has been linked to various age-related diseases, although its relationship with physical activity (PA) remains unclear. Additionally, the apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), a PA-modulated lipoprotein, could play a role in this relationship because it shares a binding site with IF1 on the cell-surface ATP synthase. We examined here the associations between chronic PA and plasma IF1 concentrations among older adults, and we investigated whether apoA-I mediated these associations. METHODS In the present work, 1096 healthy adults (63.8% females) aged 70 years and over who were involved in the Multidomain Alzheimer Prevention Trial study were included. IF1 plasma concentrations (square root of ng/mL) were measured at the 1-year visit of the Multidomain Alzheimer Prevention Trial, while PA levels (square root of metabolic equivalent task min/week) were assessed using questionnaires administered each year from baseline to the 3-year visit. Multiple linear regressions were performed to investigate the associations between the first-year mean PA levels and IF1 concentrations. Mediation analyses were conducted to examine whether apoA-I mediated these associations. Mixed-effect linear regressions were carried out to investigate whether the 1-year visit IF1 concentrations predicted subsequent changes in PA. RESULTS Multiple linear regressions indicated that first-year mean PA levels were positively associated with IF1 concentrations (B = 0.021; SE = 0.010; p = 0.043). Mediation analyses revealed that about 37.7% of this relationship was mediated by apoA-I (Bab = 0.008; SE = 0.004; p = 0.023). Longitudinal investigations demonstrated that higher concentrations of IF1 at the 1-year visit predicted a faster decline in PA levels over the subsequent 2 years (time × IF1: B = -0.148; SE = 0.066; p = 0.025). CONCLUSION This study demonstrates that regular PA is associated with plasma IF1 concentrations, and it suggests that apoA-I partly mediates this association. Additionally, this study finds that baseline concentrations of IF1 can predict future changes in PA. However, further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms underlying these observations.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the potential link between physical activity (PA) and the heightened susceptibility to diabetes mellitus (DM), by examining whether remnant cholesterol (RC) might act as a mediator in this correlation. Methods The research utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, spanning from 2005 to 2018. Various statistical analyses were conducted for continuous and categorical variables, including the t-test, ANOVA, and χ2 test. Logistic regression was employed to analyze the association between PA and DM across three distinct models. Mediation analysis was also conducted to assess the potential mediation effects of RC. Results The study encompassed a total of 9,149 participants, and it was observed that individuals with DM exhibited lower levels of PA. Furthermore, PA levels were found to be associated with all participant characteristics except poverty income ratio, fasting blood glucose, and HOMA-IR (p < 0.05). After adjusting for covariates (Model 3), individuals with high PA levels demonstrated a decreased likelihood of developing DM compared to those in the low PA group (OR: 0.73, 95%CI: 0.54-0.99). A significant dose-response relationship was identified (p < 0.05). No interaction between PA and RC in relation to DM risk was detected, and RC was found to serve as a mediator in the connection between PA and DM. After considering covariates, the mediating effect of RC between PA and DM weakens. Discussion Our findings suggest that higher levels of PA are linked to a reduced risk of DM in U.S. adults, with RC likely playing a mediating role.

Abstract
Stair climbing exercise (SE) provides a feasible approach to elevate physical activity, but the effects on metabolic health are unclear. We systematically reviewed the currently available evidence on the effects of SE on fasting and postprandial glycaemia and lipidaemia. Studies were included if they investigated the effects of acute or chronic (at least 2 weeks) SE on fasting and/or postprandial glycaemic (insulin and glucose) and lipidaemic (triacylglycerols and non-esterified fatty acids) responses in healthy, prediabetic or type 2 diabetic adult populations. PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus were searched for eligible studies until July 2022. A total of 25 studies (14 acute and 11 chronic) were eligible for review. Acute bout(s) of SE can reduce postprandial glycaemia in individuals with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes (8 of 9 studies), but not in normoglycemic individuals. The effects of acute SE on postprandial lipidaemic responses and SE training on both fasting and postprandial glycaemia/lipidaemia were unclear. Acute SE may reduce postprandial glucose concentrations in people with impaired glycaemic control, but high-quality studies are needed. More studies are needed to determine the effect of chronic SE training on postprandial glucose and lipid responses, and the acute effects of SE on lipid responses.

Abstract
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) has emerged as a promising therapeutic intervention for age-related disorders, including type 2 diabetes. In this study, we confirmed the previously observed effects of NMN treatment on glucose uptake and investigated its underlying mechanisms in various tissues and cell lines. Through the most comprehensive proteomic analysis to date, we discovered a series of novel organ-specific effects responsible for glucose uptake as measured by the IPGTT: adipose tissue growing (suggested by increased protein synthesis and degradation and mTOR proliferation signaling upregulation). Notably, we observed the upregulation of thermogenic UCP1, promoting enhanced glucose conversion to heat in intermuscular adipose tissue while showing a surprising repressive effect on mitochondrial biogenesis in muscle and the brain. Additionally, liver and muscle cells displayed a unique response, characterized by spliceosome downregulation and concurrent upregulation of chaperones, proteasomes, and ribosomes, leading to mildly impaired and energy-inefficient protein synthesis machinery. Furthermore, our findings revealed remarkable metabolic rewiring in the brain. This involved increased production of ketone bodies, downregulation of mitochondrial OXPHOS and TCA cycle components, as well as the induction of well-known fasting-associated effects. Collectively, our data elucidate the multifaceted nature of NMN action, highlighting its organ-specific effects and their role in improving glucose uptake. These findings deepen our understanding of NMN's therapeutic potential and pave the way for novel strategies in managing metabolic disorders.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study assessed the association between alcohol use patterns and the prevalence of hypertension. STUDY DESIGN Data on alcohol use patterns and hypertension among 5918 adults from the 2015-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey was used for this study. METHODS The association of alcohol use patterns; "ever-used alcohol", "binge drinking", "heavy drinking", and "everyday alcohol use" with hypertension were assessed using multivariable-adjusted logistic regression to estimate the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) at a two-sided P < 0.05. RESULTS Overall, the mean age of respondents was 48.3 ± 18.5 years, 50.9% (n = 3034) were women, and 44.6% (n = 2132) were hypertensive. Also, 85.9% (n = 4177) had used alcohol in their lifetime, 51.9% (n = 1764) were heavy drinkers, 25.1% (n = 370) engaged in binge drinking, and 17.7% (n = 721) reported everyday alcohol use. Compared to those that have never used alcohol, the aOR (95%CI) of stage II hypertension was 1.570 (1.565, 1.575) for overall alcohol use, 1.370 (1.367, 1.373) for everyday alcohol use, 1.127 (1.125, 1.129) for heavy drinking, and 1.092 (1.087, 1.098) for binge drinking. Among current active smokers, the aOR (95%CI) of stage II hypertension was aggravated for everyday alcohol use; 2.583 (2.576, 2.590). CONCLUSION Alcohol use patterns were associated with a higher prevalence of hypertension, particularly among smokers. A population-based longitudinal study should clarify whether these alcohol use phenotypes are predictive of hypertension at the population level in the United States.

Abstract
Objectives The current study analysed the implementation costs of a community-based walking football exercise programme for patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods The direct costs of a community-based walking football programme for middle-aged and older male patients with type 2 diabetes, designed and tested in Porto (Portugal), were calculated from the payer's perspective. One season of this programme consists of three sessions per week (60 min per session) for nine months (October to June). Cost calculations were based on two groups of 20 patients and included the sports infrastructure and equipment, human resources, pre-exercise clinical evaluation, medical equipment, technical training and other consumable costs. An economic depreciation of 1 year using the linear method for sports and electronic materials was considered. Cost analysis dated December 2021 and is expressed in international dollars ($). Results This programme was estimated to have a total implementation cost of $22 923.07; $2547.01/month; $573.08/patient; $106.13/session; $63.68/patient/month and $5.31/patient/session. Conclusion A community-based walking football programme for patients with type 2 diabetes is affordable and can be scaled up by local communities to promote physical activity and manage type 2 diabetes with the involvement of multiple stakeholders such as the football clubs, municipalities and primary healthcare units.

Abstract
Diabetes is a global public health challenge, exerting a large socioeconomic burden on healthcare systems. This study aimed to explore Diabetes prevalence and Diabetes medication use in diabetics regarding sex, age group, Physical Activity Level (PAL) and Body Mass Index (BMI) by studying possible differences and calculating the risks of developing Diabetes and Diabetes medication use in the population according to their PAL. A cross-sectional study was conducted using data extracted from the Spanish National Health Survey (ENSE2017). The sample was finally composed of 17,710 participants. A descriptive analysis was performed to characterise Diabetes prevalence and Diabetes medication use (Chi-square test and a z-test for independent proportions). Odds Ratios (OR) and 95% Confidence Intervals (CI) were calculated for Diabetes prevalence and Diabetes medication use according to the participants’ PAL. Both the Diabetes and Diabetes medication use was higher in men than in women, increasing with age and BMI, and decreasing with increasing PAL (p < 0.001). Higher prevalence levels were observed in the inactive group versus very active or active people (p < 0.001). Inactive people had a higher risk of Diabetes and use of Diabetes medication risk compared to the very active and active groups. Prevalence decreased the higher the PAL both in men and women.

Abstract
Introduction The present study aimed to examine the impact of age at menopause on the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk in postmenopausal women. Material and methods We included 4,968 postmenopausal women from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2018. Age at menopause was measured by single year and categorically (< 40 years, 40-44 years, 45-54 years, 55 years and above). The outcome variable T2DM was measured with self-report and fasting blood glucose level. We performed logistic regression to estimate the odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval [CI]). Linear regression was used to examine the correlation between age at menopause and age at T2DM. Results Of the 4,968 postmenopausal women, 796 (16.0%) had T2DM after menopause. The mean age at menopause was 44.2 years. The mean age at T2DM was 57.2 years. Adjusting for potential confounders, the ORs for the association between age at menopause of < 40 years, 40-44 years and ≥ 55 years and T2DM were 1.97 (95% CI: 1.47-2.63), 1.27 (95% CI: 0.90-1.79) and 0.98 (95% CI: 0.66-1.45), respectively, compared to women having menopause at age 45 to 54 years. Each increase by 1 year in age at menopause was associated with a 3% reduction in the prevalence of T2DM (95% CI: 2-5). Age at menopause was significantly correlated with age at T2DM. Each 1-year increase in age at menopause might lead to a decrease of 0.39 years in age at T2DM. Conclusions Premature menopause was associated with increased T2DM risk in women. The earlier menopause occurs, the younger is the age at which T2DM may occur.

Abstract
This study identified the risk factors for type 2 diabetes (T2D) and proposed a machine learning (ML) technique for predicting T2D. The risk factors for T2D were identified by multiple logistic regression (MLR) using p-value (p<0.05). Then, five ML-based techniques, including logistic regression, naïve Bayes, J48, multilayer perceptron, and random forest (RF) were employed to predict T2D. This study utilized two publicly available datasets, derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2009-2010 and 2011-2012. About 4922 respondents with 387 T2D patients were included in 2009-2010 dataset, whereas 4936 respondents with 373 T2D patients were included in 2011-2012. This study identified six risk factors (age, education, marital status, SBP, smoking, and BMI) for 2009-2010 and nine risk factors (age, race, marital status, SBP, DBP, direct cholesterol, physical activity, smoking, and BMI) for 2011-2012. RF-based classifier obtained 95.9% accuracy, 95.7% sensitivity, 95.3% F-measure, and 0.946 area under the curve.

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the relationship of physical activity and/or dietary quality and diabetes prevalence in the general population and within specific age groups. It was a cross-sectional study using 2011−2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Patterns Equivalents data (n = 15,674). Physical activity was measured by Global Physical Activity questionnaire; dietary quality was analyzed using the Healthy Eating Index 2015; diabetes prevalence was determined by reported diagnosis and glycohemoglobin or fasting glucose. Data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression adjusted for demographic variables and weight status. Results revealed that although no statistically significant or non-substantial relationships were observed between dietary quality or physical activity and diabetes prevalence, respondents who did not meet physical activity recommendations regardless of dietary quality had a higher odds of diabetes prevalence than those who met physical activity recommendations and had a higher dietary quality (p < 0.05). In conclusion, meeting physical activity recommendations is an important protective factor for diabetes especially in combination with a higher quality diet. A healthy lifestyle appears to have the greater impact on diabetes prevention in middle-aged men and women.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine whether using both objectively (accelerometer) and subjectively (questionnaire) measured moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary time (SED) improves the prediction of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes (pre/T2D) using data from the Framingham Heart Study (n=4200). Logistic regression was used to examine the odds ratio of pre/T2D in groups cross-classified by subjective and objective MVPA and SED. Less than half of participants fell into concordant categories of MVPA and SED using subjective and objective measures, with 7.0-9.4% of participants in the extreme discordant categories of high-low or low-high subjective-objective MVPA or SED. Low objective MVPA, regardless of subjective MVPA status, was associated with a higher prevalence of pre/T2D (P<0.05). When cross-classifying by MVPA and SED, the majority of participants fell into concordant categories of MVPA-SED, with <4% of participants in the extreme discordant categories of MVPA-SED. Low objective MVPA, regardless of objective SED, was associated with a higher prevalence of pre/T2D (P<0.05). These findings suggest that low objectively measured MVPA appears more closely associated with pre/T2D risk compared to subjective measures, and there does not appear to be an additive effect of SED on pre/T2D risk after accounting for MVPA.

Abstract
Objective: Current research results on the association between parity and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk are inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between parity and risk of CVD in women over 45 years of age. Materials and Methods: Data were from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for 2007-2018. A total of 8,882 women ≥45 years of age were included. The exposure of parity referred to the number of live births, and the outcome variable was the occurrence of CVD events, including stroke, heart attack, coronary heart disease (CHD), heart failure, and angina. We performed logistic regression to calculate the unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios (ORs; 95% confidence intervals [CIs]) controlling for confounding factors. Results: Among 8,882 women, the mean age was 62.4 ± 10.8 years, with a range of 45 to 80 years. The weighted prevalence of CVD, stroke, heart attack, CHD, heart failure, and angina in parous women were significantly higher than those of nulliparous women (p < 0.05). After adjusting for demographic factors, CVD risk factors, reproductive factors, the ORs of CVD with parity 1-2, 3-4, and 5+ were 1.85 (95% CI: 1.29-2.64), 1.70 (95% CI: 1.15-2.50), and 1.92 (95% CI: 1.28-2.88), respectively. The odds of stroke and heart attack were also significantly positively related to increasing parity compared with nulliparity. However, compared with nulliparity, parity of 3 was associated with a slightly lower risk of CVD. Conclusions: Our findings indicated that parity was significantly positively associated with CVD, giving birth to three children associated with a slightly lower risk compared with nulliparity. Further cohort studies are warranted to confirm the findings.

Abstract
Hip fractures are a significant burden on the aging population, often resulting in reduced mobility, loss of independence, and elevated risk of mortality. While fracture risk is generally inversely related to bone mineral density (BMD), people with diabetes suffer a higher fracture rate despite having a higher BMD. To better understand the connection between diabetes and fracture risk, we developed a method to measure the minimum moment of inertia (mMOI; a geometric factor associated with fracture risk) from clinical CT scans of the pelvis. Since hip fractures are more prevalent in women, we focused on females in this study. We hypothesized that females with diabetes would have a lower mMOI along the femoral neck than those without diabetes, indicative of a higher fracture risk. Three-dimensional models of each hip were created from clinical CT scans of 40 older women (27 with diabetes: 10 fracture/17 non-fractured; 13 without diabetes: non-fractured controls). The mMOI of each hip (n = 80) was reported as the average from three trials. People with diabetes had an 18% lower mMOI as compared to those without diabetes after adjusting for age and BMI (p = 0.02). No differences in the mMOIs between the fractured and contralateral hips in the diabetic group were observed (p = 0.78). Similarly, no differences were observed between the fractured and non-fractured hips of people with diabetes (p = 0.29) when accounting for age and BMI. This suggests structural differences in the hips of individuals with diabetes (measured by the mMOI) may be associated with their elevated fracture risk.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objective is to determine the optimal minimum lymph node examination number for right colon cancer (RCC) patients. METHODS We comprehensively analysed the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database data from 2004 to 2016 to determine the 13-year trend in the number of lymph nodes examined among 108,703 left colon cancer and 165,937 RCC patients. 133,137 RCC patients eligible for inclusion were used to determine the optimal minimum for lymph node examination. We used restricted cubic splines to analyse the dose-response relationship between the number of lymph nodes examined and prognosis. X-tiles and decision trees were used to determine the optimal cutoff for the number of lymph nodes based on the survival outcomes of patients with RCC. The Kaplan-Meier method and COX model were used to estimate the overall survival and independent prognostic factors, and a prediction model was constructed. The C-index, calibration curve, net reclassification improvement and integrated discrimination improvement were used to determine the predictive performance of the model, and decision curve analysis was used to evaluate the benefits. RESULTS Lymph node examinations were common among colon cancer patients over the 13-year study period. It is generally agreed that at least 12 lymph nodes must be examined to ensure proper dissection and accurate staging of RCC; however, the optimal number of lymph nodes to be examined is controversial. The dose-response relationship indicated that 12 was not the optimal minimum number of lymph nodes for RCC patients. X-tile and survival decision-tree analysis indicated that 20 nodes was the optimal number. Survival analysis indicated that <20 nodes examined was a risk factor for poor prognosis, and the classification performance was superior for 20 nodes compared to 12 nodes. CONCLUSION Lymph node examination in RCC patients should be altered. Our research suggests that a 20-node measure may be more suitable for RCC patients.
