Abstract
Longan fruit deteriorates rapidly after harvest, which limits its storability. This study aimed to investigate the effect of tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) on quality maintenance, membrane lipid metabolism, and energy status of longan fruit during 25 °C storage. Compared with control fruit, TBHQ treatment maintained better marketable fruit rate and suppressed activities of phospholipase D (PLD), lipase, and lipoxygenase (LOX), and downregulated expressions of DlPLD, DlLOX, and Dllipase. TBHQ also increased the ratio of unsaturated fatty acids to saturated fatty acids (U/S) and the index of unsaturated fatty acids (IUFA). In addition, higher levels of ATP, ADP, energy charge, NADP+/ NADPH as well as higher activities of H+-ATPase, Ca2+-ATPase and NADK were also observed in TBHQ-treated fruit. These results suggested that TBHQ may maintain postharvest quality of longan fruit by regulating membrane lipid and energy metabolisms.

Abstract
Edible fungi cultivation serves as an efficient biological approach to transforming agroforestry byproducts, particularly Korshinsk peashrub (KP) branches into valuable mushroom (Lentinus edodes) products. Despite the widespread use of KP, the molecular mechanisms underlying its regulation of mushroom development remain largely unknown. In this study, we conducted a combined analysis of transcriptome and metabolism of mushroom fruiting bodies cultivated on KP substrates compared to those on apple wood sawdust (AWS) substrate. Our aim was to identify key metabolic pathways and genes that respond to the effects of KP substrates on mushrooms. The results revealed that KP induced at least a 1.5-fold increase in protein and fat content relative to AWS, with 15% increase in polysaccharide and total sugar content in mushroom fruiting bodies. There are 1196 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between mushrooms treated with KP relative to AWS. Bioinformatic analysis show significant enrichments in amino acid metabolic process, oxidase activity, malic enzyme activity and carbon metabolism among the 698 up-regulated DEGs induced by KP against AWS. Additionally, pathways associated with organic acid transport and methane metabolism were significantly enriched among the 498 down-regulated DEGs. Metabolomic analysis identified 439 differentially abundant metabolites (DAMs) in mushrooms treated with KP compared to AWS. Consistent with the transcriptome data, KEGG analysis on metabolomic dataset suggested significant enrichments in carbon metabolism, alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism among the up-regulated DAMs by KP. In particular, some DAMs were enhanced by 1.5-fold, including D-glutamine, L-glutamate, glucose and pyruvate in mushroom samples treated with KP relative to AWS. Targeted metabolomic analysis confirmed the contents of DAMs related to glutamate metabolism and energy metabolism. In conclusion, our findings suggest that reprogrammed carbon metabolism and oxidoreductase pathways act critical roles in the enhanced response of mushroom to KP substrates.

Abstract
A series of pot trials were undertaken to examine the impact of four arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), namely Glomus mosseae (G.m), Glomus etunicatum (G.e), Corymbiglomus tortuosum (C.t), and the combined application of Glomus etunicatum and Corymbiglomus tortuosum (G.e + C.t), on the energy metabolism of amaranth plants grown in soil enriched with selenite at a concentration of 0.5 mg kg-1 . The inoculation of four AMFs resulted in an increase in both amaranth biomass and selenium (Se) content in leaves. The activities of phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase + 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase were observed to decrease when AMFs were inoculated, as compared with the absence of AMF inoculation. The inoculation with G.m, C.t, and G.e + C.t resulted in an increase in succinate dehydrogenase activity; however, the inoculation with G.m, G.e, and G.e + C.t led to an increase in ascorbate oxidase activity. Furthermore, the inoculation of all four AMFs resulted in an increase in cytochrome c oxidase activity and the concentrations of oxidized coenzyme I (NAD) and reduced coenzyme I (NADH). The polyphenol oxidase activity of amaranth plants increased when inoculated with G.m and G.e, whereas it decreased when inoculated with C.t and G.e + C.t. Furthermore, the application of all four AMF treatments resulted in a reduction in adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels and energy charge. It was worth mentioning that there was a clear inverse relationship between the energy charge and the biomass, Se concentration in the leaves. The findings presented in this research indicated that AMF may have an impact on energy metabolism and ultimately the biomass of amaranth by influencing the uptake of Se.

Abstract
(E)-2-hexenal fumigation inhibits the growth of Botrytis. cinerea, but the direct target and its effect on postharvest strawberry have not yet been discovered. In the present study, we applied increasing level of (E)-2-hexenal fumigation from 0.524 μM to 1048 μM to B. cinerea on strawberry and medium. Results showed that (E)-2-hexenal fumigation inhibited lesion diameter on strawberry by 13.96 %, 20.41 % and 100 % with the dosage increasing. On medium, (E)-2-hexenal fumigation increased both the ROS and mitochondria membrane potential level of B. cinerea. LC-MS/MS and FTIR results demonstrate a 1:1 Michael addition reaction between (E)-2-hexenal and glutathione with the product GSH-H in B. cinerea under (E)-2-hexenal fumigation. Furthermore, the consumption of glutathione and glutathione disulfide along with the production of GSH-H during fumigation in B. cinerea caused by (E)-2-hexenal were both concentration- and time-dependent. This study locates the direct target and discovered the functional model of (E)-2-hexenal to B. cinerea.

Abstract
The influences of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the storability and metabolism of disease-resistant substances in fresh longan were investigated. Compared to the control samples, H2O2-treated longan exhibited a higher index of fruit disease, pericarp browning, and pulp breakdown, a higher rate of fruit weight loss, but lower chromaticity values (L*, a* and b*) in pericarp appearance, and a lower commercially acceptable fruit rate. Additionally, H2O2-treated longan showed a lower lignin content, lower activities of enzymes including phenylalnine ammonia lyase (PAL), cinnamate 4-hydroxylase (C4H), 4-coumaryl coenzyme A ligase (4-CL), cinnamate dehydrogenase (CAD), peroxidase (POD), chitinase (CHI), and β-1,3-glucanase (GLU). These data collectively suggest that H2O2 negatively impacted the storability of fresh longan. This can be attributed to H2O2's role in reducing the levels of disease-resistant substances and suppressing the activities of disease-resistant enzymes, implying that H2O2 reduced the postharvest storability of longan by compromising its disease resistance.

Abstract
Postharvest abnormal chilling injury (CI) behavior in papaya (Carica papaya L.) fruit is a rare phenomenon that may be associated with respiratory metabolism. This study thus aimed to investigate the impacts of storage temperatures (1 and 6 °C) on the respiratory metabolism of postharvest papaya and its impact on CI development. Results demonstrated that 1 °C storage reduced the activities of hexokinase (HK), phosphofructokinase (PFK), pyruvate kinase (PK), citrate synthase (CS), and α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase (α-KGDH) and regulated the expression of corresponding enzymes in the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas (EMP) pathway and tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle compared with 6 °C storage, resulting in a lower respiration rate of the EMP-TCA pathway and mitigating the development of CI. Meanwhile, lower contents of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (hydrogen) (NAD(H)) were observed in papaya fruit stored at 1 °C. Notably, papaya fruit stored at 1 °C maintained higher activity and transcriptional levels of SDH and IDH during the whole storage period. These findings suggest that 1 °C storage reduced the respiration rate of the EMP-TCA pathway by reducing the expression level and activity of related enzymes, which is conducive to the reduction of respiration substrate consumption and finally alleviating the occurrence of CI.

Abstract
Kiwifruit is a climacteric fruit, in which the accumulation of flavor substances mainly occurs at the postharvest ripening stage. However, the dynamic changes in metabolite composition remain poorly understood. Here, targeted multi-platform metabolome analysis based on GC-MS and UPLC-MS/MS and enzyme activity analysis were performed at different postharvest ripening stages of kiwifruit. A total of 12 soluble sugars and 31 organic acids were identified. The main soluble sugars are sucrose, glucose and fructose, which exhibited similar variation tendencies along with the extension of ripening. The main organic acids are citric acid, quinic acid and malic acid, which showed different variation patterns. A total of 48 energy metabolites were identified, which were classified into two groups based on the content variation. The content of substances related to the respiratory metabolic pathway decreased gradually along with postharvest ripening, and there was obvious accumulation of downstream products such as amino acids at the late ripening stage. A total of 35 endogenous hormones were identified, among which seven cytokinins were highly accumulated at the later stage of softening. We further investigated the dynamic changes in the activities of 28 ripening-related enzymes. As a result, the activities of 13 enzymes were highly correlated with changes in starch, total pectin, and soluble sugars, and those of seven enzymes were closely associated with the change in firmness. In conclusion, this study comprehensively describes the dynamic changes in soluble sugars, organic acids, hormones, energy substances, and ripening-related enzyme activities during kiwifruit postharvest ripening, and provides a theoretical basis for the postharvest quality improvement of kiwifruit.

Abstract
Ultraviolet (UV-C), a no residual environmentally friendly physical treatment, plays an important role in delaying the senescence in fruit. In this study, 'Lingwu long' jujubes were treated with UV-C (5 kJ m-2) to investigate the impacts of cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDEs) activities, reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism, and phenylpropanoid metabolism under storage at 4 ± 1 °C for 30 d. UV-C treatment reduced respiration rate and decay index. Treated fruit exhibited lower polygalacturonase (PG), pectinate lyases (PL), cellulase (Cel), and β-galactosidase (β-gal) activities which ultimately delayed the reduction of firmness. UV-C treatment increased hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), free radical scavenging ability, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities, reduced superoxide anion (O2-) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content. In addition, ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione reductase (GR), dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), and monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR) activities were activated by UV-C treatment, leading to glutathione (GSH) and ascorbic acid (AsA) increased. Besides, phenolic compounds of jujube fruit treated with UV-C were also increased, which might be due to the enhanced phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), cinnamate-4-hydroxylase (C4H), and 4-coumarate-CoA ligase (4CL) activities. In conclusion, UV-C was recommended for improving overall quality and alleviating senescence in jujube fruit.

Abstract
Postharvest yellowing of leafy plant is a manifestation of senescence, and melatonin (MT) is known to delay leaf senescence in some higher plants. Herein, we investigated the effect of exogenous MT treatment on postharvest pakchoi by monitoring the ethylene biosynthesis and respiratory metabolism. Results showed that exogenous MT effectively extended the shelf life, delayed leaf yellowing, minimized the alteration in Fv/Fm ratio and maintained higher integrity of chloroplast in pakchoi. There was a significant correlation between yellowing index, respiration rate and ethylene production. MT treatments greatly delayed the yellowing process of pakchoi that was associated with the reduced activity of glycolysis pathway and tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA), increased proportion of pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) in respiratory metabolism, as manifested by the lower activity of phosphohexose isomerase (PHI), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and cytochrome C oxidase (COX), downregulated the expression of their corresponding genes, but enhanced the activity and expression level of 6 phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGDH). MT also markedly maintain chlorophyll content by inhibiting ethylene production and action during shelf life, likely a consequence of reduced activities of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) synthase (ACS) and ACC oxidase (ACO), as well as the expression levels of their related genes. These results collectively indicate that melatonin alleviated leaf yellowing of postharvest pakchoi might be attributed to the suppression of the ethylene biosynthesis and respiratory metabolism, and our findings contribute to provide a good candidate measure for extending shelf life and reducing postharvest loss of pakchoi.

Abstract
The impacts of reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger ascorbic acid (AsA) treatment on the storability and quality attributes of 'Fuyan' longan fruit were explored. Compared to control samples, the treatment of 4 g L-1 AsA solution clearly reduced fruit weight loss, indexes of fruit disease and pericarp browning, retained higher percentage of commercially acceptable fruit, higher values of chromaticity a∗, chromaticity b∗ , and chromaticity L∗ , delayed pigment degradation in longan pericarp, and retarded the decreases of nutritive ingredients in longan pulp. When stored for 6 d, vitamin C (0.08 g kg-1), sucrose (20.70 g kg-1), total soluble sugar (56.32 g kg-1), and total soluble solids (12.4%) in AsA-treated fruit displayed the clearly higher contents than those in control samples. These data suggested that the treatment of exogenous ROS scavenger AsA could effectively enhance the quality attributes and storability of postharvest longan fruit, thereby lengthen their postharvest shelf-life.

Abstract
H2O2 down-regulated expression of ROS scavenging-related genes in longan pulp. H2O2 reduced activities of ROS scavenging enzymes (SOD, CAT, APX) in longan pulp. H2O2 reduced ROS scavenging capacity and raised O2–. generation rate in longan pulp. H2O2 promoted lipid peroxidation of cell membrane in pulp of harvested longan fruit. H2O2-reduced ROS scavenging capacity led to H2O2-stimulated pulp breakdown of longans.
The influence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the ROS metabolism and its relationship to pulp breakdown of fresh longan cv. Fuyan during storage was evaluated. Contrasted to control fruit, H2O2-treated samples manifested a higher index of pulp breakdown, an enhanced rate of O2–. generation, and an increased amount of MDA, but lower APX, CAT and SOD activities, reduced expressions of DlAPX, DlCAT and DlSOD, and lower concentrations of total phenolics, flavonoid, AsA, and GSH as well as lower levels of free radicals scavenging capacity. These data revealed that H2O2-induced pulp breakdown of longan was because H2O2 reduced ability of removing ROS but increased ROS generation and accumulation, which promoted peroxidation of cell membrane lipid, and subsequently led to damaging cell membrane structure and breakdown occurrence in pulp of postharvest fresh longan.

Abstract
Nitric oxide (NO) is an important regulator of plant response to cold stress. In this study, NO treatment delayed the development of chilling injury (CI), inhibited the increase in H2O2 content, O2- production rate and decrease in firmness of postharvest peach fruit. Meanwhile, through RNA-seq analysis, NO treatment up-regulated gene expression of PpG-6-PDH, Pp6-PGDH and PpAOX while it down-regulated the expression of PpGPI and PpHK, suggesting that the pentose phosphate respiratory pathway and cyanide-resistant respiratory pathway were promoted and the glycolysis pathway was inhibited. Furthermore, the PpAOX expression was consistent with the trend of PpPOD1/2 expression and H2O2 content, indicating that AOX may play a role in reducing oxidative damage of peach fruit by scavenging H2O2. Thus, it was concluded that NO treatment could induce the cyanide-resistant respiration pathway to enhance antioxidant ability and chilling tolerance in post-harvest peach fruit.

Abstract
Brassinosteroids act by delaying fruit ripening. The effects of different concentrations of 2,4-epibrassinolide (eBL) treatments on carambola fruit ripening were investigated. The results show that treatment of 2.8 mg L-1, eBL with 10 min effectively delays ripening and maintains the quality of carambola fruit. This is achieved by retarding color changes and firmness losses while maintaining high level of soluble protein content and vitamin C, and low organic acid content. eBL-delayed senescence may be due to the inhibition of respiration rate and enhanced antioxidant system. It is noteworthy that eBL treatment markedly reduces the content of fructose-6-phosphate (6-P-F) and enhances the activity of cytochrome oxidase (CCO), and the total activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH) and 6-phosphate gluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGDH). eBL treatment induces the IAA and GA contents but reduces that of ABA. In general, senescence retardation and quality improvement by eBL treatment may be due to the enhanced antioxidant capacity and altered respiratory pathways.

Metabolic variations in the pulp of four litchi cultivars during pulp breakdown. Food Res Int 2021; 140:110080. Abstract
Fruit of four litchi cultivars were stored at 25 ± 1 °C. The shelf life changed from long to short respectively was "Feizixiao (FXZ), "Jingganghongnuo (JGHN)", "Huaizhi (HZ)" and "Nuomici (NMC)". During pulp breakdown, marketable fruit and total soluble solids (TSS) decreased significantly, while respiratory rate increased significantly. After metabolomics analysis, a total of 179 metabolites were detected in litchi pulp, including 56 primary metabolites, 79 volatile compounds, 28 free amino acids and 16 hydrolyzed amino acids. Compared with other litchi cultivars, FZX pulp was rich in volatile alcohols and amino acids, NMC pulp was rich in soluble sugars and sesquiterpenes, and JGHN and HZ pulp were rich in sesquiterpenes. During the postharvest storage, most of volatiles and amino acids were induced in NMC pulp, while most of volatiles were reduced in JGHN and HZ pulp. The specific metabolites accumulated in a litchi pulp might be related to its shelf life and fruit quality. The increased metabolites during pulp breakdown might be also related to the resistance of litchi pulp.

Abstract
During ripening, peach fruits (Prunus persica L. Batsch) rapidly progress to the senescent stage, resulting in a brief shelf life. Abscisic acid (ABA) plays an important role in regulating the ripening process, both in climacteric and non-climacteric fruits. A key enzyme for ABA biosynthesis in higher plants is 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED). In this study, two NCED isozymes, PpNCED1 and PpNCED5, were identified in peach fruits. While both NCED genes had similar transcriptional patterns (up-regulation) at the beginning of peach ripening, PpNCED5 showed a consistently lower expression level than PpNCED1. During the post-harvest stage, gene expression of PpNCED1 declined, while PpNCED5 expression increased relative to PpNCED1 expression. Considering the dynamic process of ABA accumulation during fruit ripening and senescence in peach, this study indicates that both NCED genes cooperatively control ABA biosynthesis in peach fruits. Moreover, spatio-temporal expression and transcriptional response to hormone and abiotic stress suggested that there is functional divergence between PpNCED1 and PpNCED5 genes in peach. A carotenoid-rich callus system was used to verify the function of PpNCED1 and PpNCED5. In the transgenic callus system, both PpNCED1 and PpNCED5 isozymes promoted ABA biosynthesis, which likely accelerated cell senescence through activating ROS signals. The results from this study provide evidence supporting an ABA biosynthetic regulation process via the two NCED genes in peach fruit, and suggest a mechanism of ABA-induced fruit ripening and senescence.

Abstract
The mechanisms for physiological senescence in bamboo shoots after harvest remain unclear. This study investigated physiological changes in Fargesia yunnanensis shoots during storage at different temperatures. The relationship between morphological and physiological changes in bamboo shoots during storage was also analyzed. The results show that cold storage can reduce weight loss, browning, respiration rates, and sugar degradation in bamboo shoots; decrease related enzymatic activities; and inhibit the increase in lignin and cellulose content. The quality of bamboo shoots declines more during the first 3d after harvesting than it does during subsequent periods. The increase in the degree of lignification and fibrosis is the main reason for senescence and for the decline in quality of bamboo shoots after harvest. The bamboo shoots under RT conditions began browning during the third 3d of storage, with a browning rate of 688gkg-1 even in the upper parts; the increase in shoot browning degrees significantly decreased the quality. Low temperatures had better inhibitory effects on browning than they did on lignification and fibrosis. Nonstructural carbohydrates in bamboo shoots are degraded and flow into sheath and shoot respiration, phenols, and shoot fibrosis and lignification at room temperature, but only flow into sheath respiration, shoot fibrosis, and lignification at cold temperature. Soluble protein and free amino acids are primarily distributed into shoot and sheath respiration and into phenols at room temperature, but that process is well inhibited at cold temperature. Bamboo shoots, once removed from cold storage, should be consumed rapidly because enzyme activity recovers quickly. This research provides new theoretical information on the preservation of bamboo shoots.

Abstract
Lignification is especially prominent in postharvest pumelo fruit, which greatly impairs their attractiveness and commercial value. This study investigated the energy metabolism and lipid peroxidation and their relationship with accumulated lignin content in juice sacs of “Hongroumiyou” (HR) during 90 d of storage at 25 °C. The results indicated that, the alterations of energy metabolism in juice of sacs of postharvest pumelos was featured by a continuous decline in energy charge and ATP/ADP; an increase in succinic dehydrogenase (SDH) activity before 30 d and increases in activities of cytochrome c oxidase (CCO) and F0F1-ATPase before 60 d; but declines in activities of Ca2+-ATPase and H+-ATPase. Additionally, enhanced contents of H2O2, O2−, and –OH scavenging rate; increased malondialdehyde (MDA) content; and transformation of unsaturated fatty acids (USFA) to saturated fatty acids (USFA) and reduced USFA/SFA (U/S) could result in lipid peroxidation and membrane integrity loss. Moreover, correlation analysis showed that lignin accumulation was in close relation to energy metabolism and lipid peroxidation in juice sacs of postharvest pumelos. These results gave evident credence for the involvement of energy metabolism and lipid peroxidation in the lignin accumulation of HR pumelo fruit during postharvest storage.

Abstract
Currently, many fruits are always harvested at the early ripening stage to reduce postharvest losses followed by 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) or ethephon treatment. However, harvesting at the early ripening stage adversely affects fruit quality, especially for the aroma. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) treatment could induce the biosynthesis of bioactive compounds and maintain postharvest fruit quality. In the present work, the contributions of MeJA to tomato fruit quality during postharvest ripening were studied. The results showed that MeJA treatment significantly promoted the accumulation of volatile organic components (VOCs) by inducing the activities of enzymes related to lipoxygenase pathway and ethylene biosynthesis, whereas 1-MCP treatment largely inhibited the accumulation of VOCs by inhibiting activities of those enzymes. Although the application of ethephon also induced activities of the above enzymes in comparison with control, no significant differences were observed between the VOCs contents of the control and ethephon-treated fruit. Further study revealed that the ethephon treatment resulted in the enhancement of electrical conductivity and malondialdehyde content. Conversely, MeJA treatment inhibited the superoxide anion radical and hydrogen peroxide by regulating the ascorbate-glutathione cycle and further inhibited the enhancement of electrical conductivity and malondialdehyde content, which might be one of the most important reasons why the VOCs contents in fruit treated with ethephon were lower than those in MeJA-treated fruit. Thus, it is considered that MeJA treatment may be an effective and promising strategy to regulate postharvest tomato fruit quality, especially for the aroma, by regulating the ascorbate-glutathione cycle and ethylene biosynthesis.

Abstract
α-Terpineol has been widely used in daily chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and flavor industries due to its pleasant odor with high economic value and pharmacological action. Our previous study showed that Penicillium digitatum DSM 62840 was an efficient biocatalyst for the transformation of limonene to α-terpineol. Thus, it was meaningful to explore the genome features and the gene expression differences of strain DSM 62840 during limonene biotransformation, and the detailed bioconversion pathways. In this study, the functional genes related to limonene bioconversion were investigated using genome and transcriptome sequences analysis. The results showed that the P. digitatum DSM 62840 genome was estimated to be 29.09 Mb and it encoded 9,086 protein-encoding genes. The most annotated genes were associated to some protein metabolism and energy metabolism functions. When the threshold for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was set at twofold ratio, a total of 4,128, and 4,148 DEGs were identified in P_L_12h (limonene-treated condition) compared with P_0h (blank) and P_12h (limonene-untreated blank), respectively. Among them, the expression levels of genes involved in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, energy metabolism and ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters were significantly altered during the biotransformation. And the reliability of these results was further confirmed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Moreover, we found that the enzyme participated in limonene biotransformation was inducible. This enzyme was located in the microsome, and it was inhibited by cytochrome P450 inhibitors. This indicated that the cytochrome P450 may be responsible for the limonene bioconversion. Several differentially expressed cytochrome P450 genes were further identified, such as PDIDSM_85260 and PDIDSM_67430, which were significantly up-regulated with limonene treatment. These genes may be responsible for converting limonene to α-terpineol. Totally, the genomic and transcriptomic data could provide valuable information in the discovery of related-genes which was involved in limonene biotransformation, pathogenicity of fungi, and investigation of metabolites and biological pathways of strain DSM 62840.

Abstract
Red light irradiation can effectively prolong the shelf-life of many fruit. However, little is known about red light-induced metabolite and enzyme activities. In this study, pitaya fruit was treated with 100 Lux red light for 24 h. Red light irradiation significantly attenuated the variation trend of senescence traits, such as the decrease of total soluble solid (TSS) and TSS/acidity (titratable acidity, TA) ratio, the increase of TA, and respiratory rate. In addition, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) related characters, primary metabolites profiling, and volatile compounds profiling were determined. A total of 71 primary metabolites and 67 volatile compounds were detected and successfully identified by using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Red light irradiation enhanced glycolysis, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, aldehydes metabolism, and antioxidant enzymes activities at early stage of postharvest storage, leading to the reduction of H2O2, soluble sugars, organic acids, and C-6 and C-7 aldehydes. At a later stage of postharvest storage, a larger number of resistance-related metabolites and enzyme activities were induced in red light-treated pitaya peel, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging, reducing power, fatty acids, and volatile aroma.

Abstract
The effects of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the contents of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and adenosine monophosphate (AMP), the level of energy charge, and the activity of adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) in pulp of harvested longan fruit, and its association with longan pulp breakdown occurrence were studied. The results showed that, compared to the control longans, H2O2-treated longans exhibited a higher index of pulp breakdown, a higher amount of AMP, but lower levels of ATP, ADP and energy charge. H2O2-treated longans also exhibited lower activities of Mg2+-ATPase, Ca2+-ATPase, and H+-ATPase in mitochondrial membrane, vacuolar membrane, and plasma membrane as compared to the control longans. Above findings demonstrated that H2O2 caused longan pulp breakdown by depleting energy and lowering the ATPase activity, indicating H2O2-induced pulp breakdown in harvested longan fruit was due to energy deficit.

Abstract
Effects of various concentrations of Kadozan (chitosan) treatment on storability and quality properties of harvested 'Fuyan' longans were investigated. Compared to the control samples, Kadozan treated-longans displayed lower fruit respiration rate, lower pericarp cell membrane permeability, pericarp browning index, pulp breakdown index, fruit disease index, and weight loss, but higher rate of commercially acceptable fruit, higher levels of pericarp chlorophyll, carotenoid, anthocyanin, flavonoid and total phenolics, higher amounts of pulp total soluble sugar, sucrose, total soluble solids, and vitamin C. These results revealed Kadozan treatment could increase storability and retain better quality of harvested longan fruit. Among different concentrations of Kadozan, the dilution of 1:500 (VKadozan: VKadozan + Water) showed the best results in storability and maintained the best quality of longans during storage. These findings demonstrated that Kadozan could be a facile and eco-friendly postharvest handling approach for increasing storability and lengthening shelf-life of harvested 'Fuyan' longan fruit.
