Abstract
Background Our objective is to describe the current prevalence and death of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in women of childbearing age (WCBA) at the global, regional, and national levels and to analyze its temporal trends from 1990 to 2019. Methods WCBA was defined as women aged 15-49 years. Estimates and 95% Uncertainty Intervals (UI) of IHD prevalence and death numbers for seven age groups were extracted from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study. The age-standardized prevalence and death rate (ASPR and ASDR) of IHD in WCBA was estimated using the direct age-standardization method. Joinpoint regression analysis was used to calculate average annual percent change (AAPC) to represent the temporal trends from 1990 to 2019. Results Between 1990 and 2019, the global ASPR of IHD experienced a 3.21% increase, culminating in 367.21 (95% UI, 295.74-430.16) cases per 100,000 individuals. Conversely, the ASDR decreased to 11.11 (95% UI, 10.10-12.30) per 100,000 individuals. In 2019, among the five sociodemographic index (SDI) regions, the highest ASPR was observed in the high-middle SDI region, whereas the highest ASDR was found in the low-middle SDI region. Regionally, the Caribbean reported the highest ASPR (563.11 per 100,000 individuals; 95% UI, 493.13-643.03), and Oceania reported the highest ASDR (20.20 per 100,000 individuals; 95% UI, 13.01-31.03). At the national level, Trinidad and Tobago exhibited the highest ASPR (730.15 per 100,000 individuals; 95% UI, 633.96-840.13), and the Solomon Islands had the highest ASDR (77.77 per 100,000 individuals; 95% UI, 47.80-121.19). Importantly, over the past three decades, the global ASPR has seen a significant increase [AAPC = 0.11%, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.09-0.13; P < 0.001], while the ASDR has demonstrated a significant decreasing trend (AAPC = -0.86%, 95% CI: -1.11 to -0.61; P < 0.001). Air pollution, tobacco use, high systolic blood pressure, elevated body mass index, dietary risks, and high LDL cholesterol have been identified as the leading six risk factors for IHD-related deaths among WCBA in 2019. Conclusions Despite the significant decline in the global ASDR for IHD among WCBA over the last thirty years, the ASPR continues to escalate. We need to remain vigilant about the increased burden of IHD in WCBA. It calls for aggressive prevention strategies, rigorous control of risk factors, and the enhancement of healthcare coverage to mitigate the disease burden of IHD among WCBA in forthcoming years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent researches have found a strong correlation between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index or the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, there is a lack of research on non-invasive and rapid prediction of cardiovascular risk. We aimed to develop and validate a machine-learning model for predicting cardiovascular risk based on variables encompassing clinical questionnaires and oculomics. METHODS We collected data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The training dataset (80% from the year 2008 to 2011 KNHANES) was used for machine learning model development, with internal validation using the remaining 20%. An external validation dataset from the year 2012 assessed the model's predictive capacity for TyG-index or AIP in new cases. We included 32122 participants in the final dataset. Machine learning models used 25 algorithms were trained on oculomics measurements and clinical questionnaires to predict the range of TyG-index and AIP. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score were used to evaluate the performance of our machine learning models. RESULTS Based on large-scale cohort studies, we determined TyG-index cut-off points at 8.0, 8.75 (upper one-third values), 8.93 (upper one-fourth values), and AIP cut-offs at 0.318, 0.34. Values surpassing these thresholds indicated elevated cardiovascular risk. The best-performing algorithm revealed TyG-index cut-offs at 8.0, 8.75, and 8.93 with internal validation AUCs of 0.812, 0.873, and 0.911, respectively. External validation AUCs were 0.809, 0.863, and 0.901. For AIP at 0.34, internal and external validation achieved similar AUCs of 0.849 and 0.842. Slightly lower performance was seen for the 0.318 cut-off, with AUCs of 0.844 and 0.836. Significant gender-based variations were noted for TyG-index at 8 (male AUC=0.832, female AUC=0.790) and 8.75 (male AUC=0.874, female AUC=0.862) and AIP at 0.318 (male AUC=0.853, female AUC=0.825) and 0.34 (male AUC=0.858, female AUC=0.831). Gender similarity in AUC (male AUC=0.907 versus female AUC=0.906) was observed only when the TyG-index cut-off point equals 8.93. CONCLUSION We have established a simple and effective non-invasive machine learning model that has good clinical value for predicting cardiovascular risk in the general population.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Psychological health encompasses a constellation of negative and positive factors-i.e., psychosocial stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, loneliness and social isolation, anger and hostility, optimism, and a sense of purpose. This narrative review presents current evidence at the intersection of psychological health, risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD), and IHD-related outcomes, with an emphasis on associations in women. RECENT FINDINGS For women, relations between psychological health and IHD reflect important sex and gender differences in biological and psychosocial factors. Although efforts devoted to understanding psychological health and IHD risk have varied by psychological factor-scientific evidence is strongest for psychosocial stress and depression, while anxiety, trauma, and positive psychological factors warrant more investigation-less optimal psychological health is consistently associated with an earlier and greater risk of IHD morbidity and mortality in women. Still, many past prospective studies of psychological factors and IHD risk had a limited representation of women, did not include analyses by sex, or failed to account for other influential, sex-specific factors. Thus, there are multiple pathways for further, rigorous investigation into psychological health-IHD associations, mechanisms, and empirically supported psychological interventions to mitigate IHD risk among women. Given the robust evidence linking psychological health with women's risk for IHD, implementing routine, brief, psychological screening is recommended. Significant life events, developmental milestones specific to women, and IHD diagnoses or events could cue further psychological assessment and referral, efforts which will mutually strengthen the evidence for integrated psychological and IHD care and delivery of such care to this vulnerable group.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, whilst vitamin D levels have been found to be associated with cardiovascular disease. To investigate the causal relationship between vitamin D levels and five cardiovascular diseases, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was carried out using data on vitamin D levels (sample size = 79366), angina pectoris (18168 cases and 187840 controls), coronary heart disease (21012 cases and 197780 controls), lacunar stroke (6030 cases and 248929 controls), heart attack (10693 cases and 451187 controls), and hypertension (55917 cases and 162837 controls), with a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis being subsequently performed. Six single nucleotide polymorphisms were used as instrumental variables (IVs). In addition, sensitivity analysis was performed to verify the reliability of the MR results here. The results showed a causal relationship between vitamin D levels and angina pectoris (OR = 0.51, 95 % CI: 0.28-0.93, P = 0.03), coronary heart disease (OR = 0.53, 95 % CI: 0.34-0.81, P = 0.004), and lacunar stroke (OR = 0.41, 95 % CI: 0.20-0.86, P = 0.02), but no causal relationship with heart attacks (OR = 1.00, 95 % CI: 0.99-1.01, P = 0.76) or hypertension (OR = 0.99, 95 % CI: 0.73-1.34, P = 0.94). Additionally, our IVs data showed no heterogeneity or pleiotropy, whilst the results of the MR analysis were reliable. This study contributes to the prevention and treatment of these five cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Recent studies have shown that the negative effect of uric acid (UA) on coronary arteries determines the severity of atherosclerotic disease. This study aims to explore the relationship between serum UA level and Gensini score, which reflects the severity of coronary artery disease. METHODS A total of 860 patients with suspected coronary heart disease who were admitted to hospital due to angina pectoris or myocardial ischemia related symptoms and received coronary angiography were selected. Based on the findings of the angiography, they were categorized into two groups: the coronary heart disease (CHD) group (n = 625) and the control group (n = 235). The uric acid levels and other clinical data were compared between these groups. Additionally, the prevalence of coronary heart disease and Gensini score were compared between the groups, considering gender-specific quartiles of uric acid levels. The clinical baseline data were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify independent risk factors for coronary heart disease. RESULTS Of 860 patients (mean age, 63.97 ± 11.87 years), 528 were men (mean age, 62.06 ± 11.5 years) and 332 were women (mean age, 66.99 ± 10.11 years). The proportion of smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia in the coronary heart disease group was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). HbA1C, Gensini score, BMI, TG and hsCRP in the coronary heart disease group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05), and HDL-C was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in age, heart rate, Cr, TC and LDL-C between the two groups (P > 0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, hypertension, hsCRP and SUA levels increased the risk of coronary heart disease, and the difference was statistically significant(OR = 1.034,95%CI 1.016-1.052, P = 0.001; OR = 1.469,95%CI 1.007-2.142, P = 0.046;OR = 1.064,95%CI 1.026-1.105, P = 0.001; OR = 1.011,95%CI 1.008-1.014, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Serum uric acid is positively correlated with Gensini score in patients with coronary heart disease, which is an independent factor for evaluating the degree of coronary artery stenosis and has a predictive effect.

Abstract
Importance Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death in the US. Women veterans have higher rates of CVD compared with civilian US women; however, analyses of recent trends in mortality from cardiac disease for women veterans are lacking. Objective To investigate trends in cardiac disease mortality among women veterans over approximately the past 2 decades and compare rates with those for civilian women. Design, Setting, and Participants In this retrospective longitudinal cohort study, US Veterans Health Administration (VHA) electronic health record data, linked with the National Death Index, were analyzed for CVD trends and rates of cardiac disease mortality among women veterans (aged 18 years or older) with VHA health care encounters from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2017. These data were compared with a national cohort of civilian women (aged 15 years or older) in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC WONDER) database, which provides cause-of-death data using death certificates for all US residents. The data analysis was performed between March 10, 2021, and November 28, 2022. Exposure Cardiac disease mortality among women veterans and civilian women. Main Outcomes and Measures Cardiac disease mortality was based on International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision diagnostic codes (I00-I09, I11, I13, and I20-I51 as defined by CDC WONDER). For women veterans and civilian women, crude and age-adjusted cardiac disease mortality rates (per 100 000 life-years) and 95% CIs were calculated, with the 2000 US general population as the reference for age-adjusted rates. Results From 2000 to 2017, 817 912 women veterans engaged with VHA health care (mean [SD] age, 45.7 [17.1] years), and 19 022 cardiac disease deaths were identified (22.4% of total deaths). The crude and age-adjusted cardiac disease mortality rates, respectively, per 100 000 life-years were 200.2 (95% CI, 181.0-221.0) and 197.6 (95% CI, 175.2-222.0) in 2000 and 196.0 (95% CI, 186.1-206.4) and 208.1 (95% CI, 196.4-220.4) in 2017, reflecting stable crude rates and a 5.3% increase in age-adjusted rates. For civilian women, the crude and age-adjusted rates decreased over time from 320.7 (95% CI, 319.7-321.8) and 268.1 (95% CI, 267.3-269.0) in 2000 to 220.9 (95% CI, 220.1-221.7) and 164.7 (95% CI, 164.1-165.3) in 2017. Conclusions and Relevance In this cohort study comparing women veterans and civilian women, cardiac disease mortality rates for women veterans did not exhibit the improvements seen for civilian women during the nearly 2-decade study period. Further research and actionable clinical interventions are warranted to improve cardiovascular care for women veterans, who represent the fastest growing group of patients within the VHA health care system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The data on sex-related differences regarding the body mass index (BMI) in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) are rare and inconclusive. We aimed to assess sex differences in the relationship between BMI and 30-day mortality in men and women with MI. METHODS A single-center retrospective study of 6453 patients with MI who underwent PCI was performed. Patients were divided into five BMI categories and these were compared. The relationship between BMI and 30-day mortality was assessed in men and women. RESULTS An L-shaped relationship between BMI and mortality was observed in men (p=0.003) with the highest mortality rate (9.4%) in normal weight patients and the lowest in patients with obesity grade I (5.3%). In women, similar mortality was found in all BMI categories (p=0.42). After adjustment for potential confounders, the negative association between BMI category and 30-day mortality was found in men, but not in women (p=0.033 and p=0.13, respectively). Overweight men had a 33% lower risk of death within 30 days compared to normal weight patients (OR 0.67,95%CI 0.46-0.96;p=0.03). Other BMI categories in men had a similar mortality risk to the normal weight category. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that the relationship between BMI and outcome in patients with MI is different in men and women. We found an L-shaped relationship between BMI and 30-day mortality in men, but no relationship was observed in women. The obesity paradox was not found in women. Sex itself could not explain this differential relationship, and the underlying cause is likely multifactorial.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality around the globe and psychosocial factors are not sufficiently understood. AIM In the current study, we aimed to evaluate the role of different psychosocial factors including depressive symptoms, chronic stress, anxiety, and emotional social support (ESS) on the incidence of hard CVD (HCVD). METHODS We examined the association of psychosocial factors and HCVD incidence amongst 6,779 participants in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). Using physician reviewers' adjudication of CVD events incident, depressive symptoms, chronic stress, anxiety, emotional social support scores were measured by validated scales. We used Cox proportional Hazards (PH) models with psychosocial factors in several of the following approaches: (1) Continuous; (2) categorical; and (3) spline approach. No violation of the PH was found. The model with the lowest AIC value was chosen. RESULTS Over an 8.46-year median follow-up period, 370 participants experienced HCVD. There was not a statistically significant association between anxiety and HCVD (95%CI) for the highest versus the lowest category [HR = 1.51 (0.80-2.86)]. Each one point higher score for chronic stress (HR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.08-1.29) and depressive symptoms (HR, 1.02; 95% CI, 1.01-1.03) was associated with a higher risk of HCVD in separate models. In contrary, emotional social support (HR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.96-0.99) was linked with a lower risk of HCVD. CONCLUSIONS Higher levels of chronic stress is associated with greater risk of incident HCVD whereas ESS has a protective association.

Abstract
BackgroundIn recent years, the incidence rates of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and heart disease (HD) have noticeably increased worldwide. Previous studies have found that patients with RA are more likely to develop HD, while the cause and effect have still remained elusive. In this study, Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to indicate whether there was a potential association between RA and HD.MethodsData of RA, ischemic heart disease (IHD), myocardial infarction (MI), atrial fibrillation (AF), and arrhythmia were based on the genome-wide association study (GWAS) dataset. No disease group was intersected. Inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used to calculate MR estimates, and sensitivity analysis was performed.ResultsThe primary MR analysis showed that genetic susceptibility to RA was significantly associated with the risk of IHD and MI, rather than with AF and arrhythmia. Besides, there was no heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy between the primary and replicated analyses. There was a significant correlation between RA and the risk of IHD (odds ratio (OR), 1.0006; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.000244–1.00104; P = 0.001552), meanwhile, there was a significant correlation between RA and the risk of MI (OR, 1.0458; 95% CI, 1.07061–1.05379; P = 0.001636). The results were similar to those of sensitivity analysis, and the sensitivity analysis also verified the conclusion. Furthermore, sensitivity and reverse MR analyses suggested that no heterogeneity, horizontal pleiotropy or reverse causality was found between RA and cardiovascular comorbidity.ConclusionRA was noted to be causally associated with IHD and MI, rather than with AF and arrhythmia. This MR study might provide a new genetic basis for the causal relationship between RA and the risk of CVD. The findings suggested that the control of RA activity might reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is defined as a range of conditions which the blood flow to the heart was reduced or stopped. This disorder is correlated to a systemic inflammatory response and some biochemical factors. Therefore, the aim of this study was investigations of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and uric acid levels in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation ACS (NSTE ACS), as common subtypes of ACS. Patients with ACS (n = 140) were assessed with coronary arteriography and divided into STEMI and NSTE ACS groups. The serum levels of hs-CRP and uric acid were investigated using a routine clinical chemistry analyzer. Patients with STEMI showed a significant increase in uric acid level compared to those with NSTE ACS (P < .0001). Other data indicated that hs-CRP level in patients with STEMI was significantly higher than individuals with NSTE ACS (P < .0001). Modeling analysis revealed that the increased levels of acid uric and hs-CRP in patients with STEMI were independent of the effects of age, gender, background diseases, and familial history (P < .001). The current study provides further evidence to indicate that hs-CRP and uric acid may be considered as biofactors for comparing STEMI from NSTE ACS and determining disease outcome.

Abstract
In this study, using pure and copper-doped titanium dioxide (Cu-TiO2) nanostructures as the base matrix, enzyme-less label free myoglobin detection to identify acute myocardial infarction was performed and presented. The Cu-TiO2 nanomaterials were prepared using facile sol-gel method. In order to comprehend the morphologies, compositions, structural, optical, and electrochemical characteristics, the pure and Cu-TiO2 nanomaterials were investigated by several techniques which clearly revealed good crystallinity and high purity. To fabricate the enzyme-less label free biosensor, thick films of synthesized nanomaterials were applied to the surface of a pre-fabricated gold screen-printed electrode (Au-SPE), which serves as a working electrode to construct the myoglobin (Mb) biosensors. The interference study of the fabricated biosensor was also carried out with human serum albumin (HSA) and cytochrome c (cyt-c). Interestingly, the Cu-doped TiO2 nanomaterial-based Mb biosensor displayed a higher sensitivity of 61.51 µAcm-2/nM and a lower detection limit of 14 pM with a response time of less than 10 ms.

Abstract
Context: Studies have shown that cardiac triglyceride accumulation and impaired Na+-K+-ATPase activity are linked to diabetes- related cardiovascular disease, particularly in women.Objectives: We hypothesised that allopurinol (ALL) and valproic acid (VPA) treatment would improve cardiac triglyceride and Na+-K+-ATPase activity independent of circulating aldosterone in Combined Oral Contraceptive (COC)-induced dysglycemiaMaterials and methods: Rats received COC (1.0 μg ethinylestradiol and 5.0 μg levonorgestrel; po) with or without ALL (1 mg; po) and VPA (20 mg; po) for 6 weeks.Results: COC-treatment led to impaired glucose tolerance, accumulated abdominal fat, dyslipidemia, elevated plasma MDA, PAI-1 and aldosterone levels and also reduced plasma nitric oxide bioavailability and cardiac Na+-K+-ATPase activity. However, either ALL or VPA treatment ameliorated these alterations comparably independent of elevated aldosterone levelDiscussion and conclusion: Our results suggest that either ALL or VPA would improve cardiac TG and Na+-K+-ATPase activity comparably in COC-treated rats, regardless of circulating aldosterone level.

Abstract
Background: Psychological stress disorders are twice as prevalent in women with ischemic heart disease compared to men. The disproportionate psychological health experience of these women is not well understood. The objective of this study was to examine whether neighborhood social factors are associated with disparities in psychological health by gender. Materials and Methods: We studied 286 patients with heart disease recruited from Emory-based hospitals in the Myocardial Infarction and Mental Stress 2 Study (n = 286). A global measure of psychological distress was calculated by taking an average of ranks across symptom scales for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, anger, and perceived stress. The social vulnerability index (SVI) was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and was used to rank patients' census tracks on 14 social factors. Beta coefficients for mean ranks in psychological distress scores were estimated per 10-unit increase in SVI percentile ranking using multilevel regression models. Results: The mean age of the sample was 51 years, 49% were women, and 66% African American. After adjusting for demographics, cardiovascular risk factors, and antidepressant use, each 10-unit increase in SVI percentile ranking was associated with 4.65 (95% CI: 0.61-8.69; p = 0.02) unit increase in mean scores for psychological distress among women only (SVI-by-gender-interaction = 0.01). These associations were driven by the SVI themes of lower socioeconomic status and poorer access to housing and transportation. Conclusion: Neighborhood social vulnerability may be a psychosocial stressor that potentiates women's susceptibility to adverse psychological and cardiovascular health.

Abstract
Background Pediatric CML is very rare. Before the introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) from a donor -if available- was the standard cure attempt. Data on the long-term outcome and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in former pediatric CML patients undergoing HSCT are lacking. Study question We investigated long-term survivors' self-reporting to a questionnaire sent out to patients formerly enrolled in pediatric CML-HSCT trials. Methods Individuals with CML transplanted at age <18 years were identified from the German Childhood Cancer Registry database. Long-term survivors received a questionnaire based on the SF-36 and FACT-BMT asking them to self-report HRQOL issues. (Ethical vote #541_20 B, Medical Faculty, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg). Results 111/171 (64.9%) individuals survived HSCT long-term and 86/111 (77.5%) fulfilled all inclusion criteria and received the questionnaire. 37/86 (43%) participants (24 female, 13 male, median age at HSCT 12 years [range 2-18], median age at the time of the survey 29 years [range 18-43]) responded after a median follow-up period of 19 years (range 4-27) after HSCT. 10/37 (27%) participants underwent no regular medical follow-up examinations. Self-reported symptoms like chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD)-associated organ impairments and conditioning regimen consequences could causatively not sharply be separated in each case. Complains comprised hypothyroidism (N=11, 30%), infertility (N=9, 24%), lung problems, dry eyes (each N=7, 19%), skin alterations (N=6, 17%), hair problems (N=4, 11%), and sexual dysfunction (N=3, 9%). 10 (27%) participants experienced 13 CML relapses after a median interval from HSCT of 31 months (range 2-93). Only one patient underwent 2nd SCT after failure of relapse treatment with TKIs. Six secondary malignancies (dysplastic melanocytic nevus and ALL, basal cell carcinoma (N=2), rhabdomyosarcoma, and thyroid carcinoma developed in 5 (13%) participants. As assessed by the SF-36 questionnaire, impaired physical health was mainly associated with cGvHD. The mental component summary score showed that also participants without cGvHD scored significantly lower than the general population. When assessed by the FACT-BMT, participants with cGvHD scored significantly lower while participants without cGvHD scored even 5 points higher than the data from controls. 18 (49%) participants considered the sequelae of HSCT an obstacle to education. Out of the total cohort, N=20 (54%), N=7 (19%), N=5 (14%), and N=4 (11%) participants worked full time, part-time, were unemployed, or had not yet finalized their education, respectively. 20 (54%) participants lived as singles, 8 (22%) lived in a partnership, 6 (16%) were married, and 3 (8%) had been divorced. Four (11%) participants reported a total number of 7 children. Conclusion This first assessment of HRQOL in former pediatric patients with CML surviving HSCT for more than two decades demonstrates self-reported satisfactory well-being only in the absence of cGvHD. Research-based on self-reported outcomes sheds light on former patients' perspectives and provides an additional layer of valuable knowledge for pediatric and adult hematologists. Regular follow-up examinations are mandatory helping to avoid that late secondary neoplasias, CML-relapse, and disorders forming the broad range of possible long-term consequences of HSCT are not detected too late.

Abstract
Most patients presenting in an emergency unit with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) (which include non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), ST-elevation MI (STEMI), and unstable angina) usually meet at least two cardiovascular risk factors, such as dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2, obesity, history of or current smoking, etc. Most ACS patients suffer from a type of dyslipidemia, and in addition to this there are ACS patients rushed into the emergency units for which the feeding status is unknown. Thus, we set out to evaluate the effect of fasting on 16 blood metabolite concentrations and 114 lipoprotein parameters on one control group and a group of statin-treated ACS patients hospitalized in a cardiovascular emergency unit, using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The results indicated trends (in terms of number of cases, but not necessarily in terms of the magnitude of the effect) for as many as four metabolites and 48 lipoproteins. The effect was defined as a trend for results showing over 70% of the cases from either one or both groups that experienced parameter changes in the same direction (i.e., either increased or decreased). In terms of magnitude, the effect is rather low, leading to the overall conclusion that in cardiovascular (CV) emergency units, the blood samples analyzed in any feeding status would provide close results and very valuable information regarding prognosis and for fast decisions on patient’s proper management.

Abstract
Purpose of Review Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide for both men and women. However, CVD is understudied, underdiagnosed, and undertreated in women. This bias has resulted in women being disproportionately affected by CVD when compared to men. The aim of this narrative review is to explore the contribution of sex and gender on CVD outcomes in men and women and offer recommendations for researchers and clinicians. Recent Findings Evidence demonstrates that there are sex differences (e.g., menopause and pregnancy complications) and gender differences (e.g., socialization of gender) that contribute to the inequality in risk, presentation, and treatment of CVD in women. Summary To start addressing the CVD issues that disproportionately impact women, it is essential that these sex and gender differences are addressed through educating health care professionals on gender bias; offering patient-centered care and programs tailored to women’s needs; and conducting inclusive health research.

Abstract
CONTEXT Myocardial cell death occurs within hours following the onset of myocardial ischaemia and its chief cause is atherosclerosis. There is a link between vitamin D3 deficiency and many cardiovascular risk factors. OBJECTIVE This study compared the effect of vitamin D3 on early biomarkers of myocardial injury, to that of atorvastatin. METHODS Diabetic hyperlipidaemia was induced in Wistar rats, which were divided into 3 groups: diabetic hyperlipidaemic control, diabetic hyperlipidaemic rats treated with atorvastatin and diabetic hyperlipidaemic rats treated with vitamin D3. Blood glucose, glycated haemoglobin and lipid profile were evaluated. Markers of myocardial injury were examined including cardiac troponin, heart fatty acid binding protein (HFABP) and C-terminal pro-endothelin-1 (CT-pro-ET-1). RESULTS Vitamin D3 and atorvastatin intake improved lipid profile and glucose homeostasis, and reduced levels of predictive biomarkers of myocardial injury. CONCLUSION Vitamin D3 can be used in a suitable dose as a safe and protective candidate against myocardial injury.

Abstract
Growing evidence suggests that childhood trauma is associated with poorer cardiovascular health in adulthood, but few studies have examined potential mediators of these associations. We examined the links between different forms of childhood trauma (i.e., abuse, neglect, cumulative trauma) and cardiovascular health and explored potential mediators. Cross-sectional data from 1,251 participants in the National Survey of Midlife Development in the United States' II Biomarker Project were analyzed. Path analyses were conducted to examine the associations between childhood trauma and cardiovascular health (i.e., American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7 [LS7] score). Depressive symptoms and sleep quality were explored as potential mediators, and exploratory analyses examined whether these associations were moderated by sex. Women reported more severe childhood emotional and sexual abuse and emotional neglect, p < .001 to p = .018, and higher LS7 scores, p = .027, than men. Path analyses demonstrated the total effects of increasing severity of all forms of childhood trauma with LS7 scores were significant, and cumulative childhood trauma was inversely associated with LS7 score Bs = -0.306- -0.076, p < .001-p = .048. The range of total effects of different forms of childhood trauma on LS7 scores mediated by depressive symptoms and sleep quality was 26.8%-57.5%. Sex moderated the associations between all forms of childhood trauma and cardiovascular health. Longitudinal studies are needed that examine mediators of the associations between childhood trauma and cardiovascular health. Findings suggest sex-specific, trauma-informed approaches for cardiovascular disease prevention in adults exposed to childhood trauma may be needed.

Abstract
In this article, the TiN sensitive film as a sensing membrane was deposited onto n+-type Si substrate by a DC sputtering technique for extended-gate field-effect transistor (EGFET) pH sensors and detection of cardiac troponin-I (cTn-I) in the patient sera for the first time. The crystal structure, Raman spectrum, element profile, surface roughness, and surface morphology of the TiN sensitive film were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The sensing performance of the TiN sensitive film is correlated with its relative structural feature. A high sensitivity of 57.49 mV/pH, a small hysteresis voltage of ∼1 mV, and a low drift rate of 0.31 mV/h were obtained in the TiN sensitive film. In addition, the pH sensitivity of this TiN EGFET sensor was preserved approximately 57 mV/pH after operation time of 180 days. Subsequently, the cTn-I antibodies with carboxyl groups activated by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide (EDC) along with N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) were immobilized on the TiN sensitive film functionalizing with 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES). After obtaining the successful immobilization of cTn-I antibodies on the TiN EGFET biosensor, the cTn-I antigen specifically binds with its relative antibody. The cTn-I EGFET biosensor showed a high sensitivity of 21.88 mV/pCcTn-I in a wide dynamic range of 0.01-100 ng/mL. Furthermore, the concentrations of cTn-I in patient sera measured by our TiN EGFET biosensors are comparable to those determined by commercial enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay kits.

Abstract
A combination of various risk factors results in the development of coronary heart disease. The earlier that one identifies and deals with reversible risk factors for coronary heart disease, the greater the chance of recovery. The main goal of this research is to learn whether risk variables are associated with greater extent of coronary artery disease in people with coronary heart disease. This article selects 290 patients who had had coronary angiography in our hospital from September 2018 to March 2019 using a retrospective research and analytic methodology. Coronary angiography split the patients into two groups: those with coronary heart disease and those without. To determine the correlation between risk factors and a score related to heart disease, computer-aided statistical analysis of data about the differences in those risk factors was performed. The results were analyzed using the Spearman correlation and partial correlation, and the relationship between risk factors and Gensini score was analyzed by multiple linear regression. For the analysis, binary logistic regression was used to calculate the correlation between the risk factors of coronary heart disease and the probability of developing coronary heart disease. The findings concluded that increased age, smoking, elevated hs-CRP, HbA1c, hypertension, diabetes, and hyperuricemia are all contributors to coronary heart disease. Coronary heart disease is an independent risk factor for this condition. Many of the factors that play a role in the long-term development of the severity of coronary artery disease, such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, elevated hs-CRP, decreased HDL-C, raised LDL-C, and TG, are commonly found in men. hs-CRP is the primary risk factor for the degree of coronary artery stenosis and could contribute to the progression of the condition by playing a major role in creating more stenosis.

Abstract
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a common disease among the general population, and includes four major areas: (1) coronary heart disease (CHD), manifested by stable angina, unstable angina, myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure, and coronary death; (2) cerebrovascular disease, manifested by transient ischemia attack and stroke; (3) peripheral vascular disease, manifested by claudication and critical limb ischemia; and (4) aortic atherosclerosis and aortic aneurysm (thoracic and abdominal). CHD remains the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. So, it is imperative to identify people at risk of CHD and provide appropriate medical treatment or intervention to prevent serious complications and outcomes including sudden cardiac death. Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a marker of subclinical coronary artery disease. Therefore, coronary artery calcium score is an important screening method for Coronary artery disease (CAD). In this article, we performed a comprehensive review of current literatures and studies assessing the prognostic value of CAC for future cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and Cochrane library. We also reviewed the 2018 American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) guideline on the assessment of CVD risk. A CAC score of zero corresponds to very low CVD event rates (∼1% per year) and hence a potent negative risk marker. This has been referred to as the ‘power of zero’ and affords the lowest risk of any method of risk calculation. It is now indicated in the 2018 ACC/AHA Cholesterol guidelines to be used to avoid statins for 5–10 years after a score of zero, and then re-assess the patient.

Lipoprotein lipase is a key enzyme in lipid metabolism with reported variants associated with obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and coronary heart disease. This study was performed to investigate the association between common lipoprotein lipase single nucleotide polymorphisms and metabolic disorders in a sample of Kuwaiti cohort (n = 494). Five lipoprotein lipase variants (rs1801177, rs295, rs326, ss2137497749, and ss2137497750) across the lipoprotein lipase gene were genotyped by real-time PCR employing the TaqMan allele discrimination assay. Genotype, allelic frequencies, and Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium were determined for each variant in the cohort followed by multivariate and logistic regression analysis. A novel finding was observed for the G allele of single nucleotide polymorphism rs326 which was associated with increased BMI after adjusting for age and sex (β = 1.04; 95% confidence interval = 0.15–1.94; P = 0.02). Moreover, a significant difference in the distribution of the minor C allele of rs295 among coronary heart disease subjects compared with noncoronary heart disease, however, this significance was diminished after controlling for age, sex, and BMI. This study demonstrated that lipoprotein lipase rs326 may be indicative for the increased risk of obesity and possibly rs295 for coronary heart disease. The findings are also in agreement with other reports suggesting that intronic variants are important genetic markers in association studies. The findings warrant further studies in a large cohort to confirm and validate the results presented.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM The menopause is associated in females with the presence of dysglycemia, insulin resistance and with the development of endothelial dysfunction. Tibolone (TIB) is a synthetic steroid compound with selective oestrogenic and, to a lesser extent, progestogenic and androgenic properties prescribed to postmenopausal women to alleviate the symptoms of the climaterium and to prevent the development of osteoporosis. However, the impact of TIB on fasting blood sugar (FBS), insulin, Homeostatic Model Assessment-Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) index and flow-mediated dilation (FMD) in women has not been evaluated so far. Thus, to investigate this research question, we conducted the present systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS Two independent reviewers searched the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed/Medline and Embase databases up to 20 December 2020. The weighted mean differences (WMDs) and the 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using the DerSimonian and Laird random effects models between the TIB and control groups and included in the forest plot. RESULTS The overall findings were generated from 12 eligible randomized controlled trials. As compared to controls, TIB administration resulted in a significant reduction of FBS (WMD: -3.06 mg/dL, 95% CI: -5.30 to -0.82, P = 0.007), and of the HOMA-IR index (WMD: -0.61, 95% CI: -1.11 to -0.11, P = 0.01). However, treatment with TIB did not lead to significant changes of the FMD (WMD: 0.78%, 95% CI: -0.20 to 1.77, P = 0.12) or of insulin levels (WMD: -0.10 mIU/L, 95% CI: -2.04 to 1.83, P = 0.91). CONCLUSION TIB administration can decrease FBS and the HOMA-IR index in postmenopausal women. However, the use of TIB does not influence insulin levels or FMD.

Abstract
Background Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), an inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), has been implicated in endothelial dysfunction and atherogenesis. Though there is much evidence linking ADMA with atherosclerosis and adverse cardiovascular events, only a few studies have established the independent relationship between elevated ADMA and the angiographic extent of coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of the study was to analyze serum ADMA levels in patients with varied extent and severity of coronary atherosclerosis and to see whether the levels of ADMA in male and female participants vary significantly. Methods We analyzed 40 individuals with obstructive CAD, including men and women, between the ages of 30 and 60. According to their coronary angiographic reports, the participants were divided into four groups: minor CAD, single vessel disease (SVD), double vessel disease (DVD) group and triple vessel disease (TVD). Then, serum ADMA levels was measured and compared among these groups. Results ADMA level was significantly higher in patients with TVD (167.74±16.69) than those in the DVD (159.46±10.40), SVD (149.54±16.39) and minor CAD (144.5± 24.16) group (p-value= 0.0001). There was no significant difference in ADMA levels between male and female participants (p= 0.534). Conclusion ADMA concentration in the serum may be useful in identifying whether CAD correlates significantly to the extent and severity of coronary atherosclerosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Heart centers for women (HCW) were developed due to the rising cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in women in the United States in the early 1990s. Our review encompasses the epidemiology, risk factors, diagnostic strategies, treatments, and the role of HCW in managing women with ischemic heart disease (IHD). RECENT FINDINGS HCW use a multidisciplinary team to manage women with IHD. Due to the paucity of randomized controlled trials investigating various manifestations of IHD, some treatments are not evidence-based such as those for coronary microvascular dysfunction and spontaneous coronary artery dissection. Sex-specific risk factors have been identified and multimodality cardiac imaging is improving in diagnosing IHD in women. Treatments are being studied to help improve symptoms and outcomes in women with IHD. There has been progress in the care of women with IHD. HCW can be instrumental in treating women with IHD, doing research, and being a source of research study participants.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of the main reasons of death and morbidity in the world. Both women and men have high rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, although gender-related differences in mortality and morbidity rates are observed in different age groups of the population. In the large cohort of cardiovascular disease, ischemic heart disease (IHD), heart failure (HF), systemic hypertension, and valvular heart disease are particularly common in the population. CVDs caused by atherosclerosis are in the first place in terms of frequency, that is why society is particularly interested in this problem. The development and course of atherosclerotic processes associated with lipid and other metabolic changes are characterized by a long latent period, the clinical manifestation is often an acute vascular catastrophe, which can lead to human disability and death. Differences associated with sex are observed in the clinical course and manifestations, which raises the suspicion that gender influences processes related to atherosclerosis. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACD) includes two main most dangerous clinical manifestations: IHD and cerebrovascular disease (mainly ischemic stroke). Other less common clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis include aortic atherosclerosis and peripheral vascular disease. Gender-related differences were also identified concerning these diseases. The present review discusses the effects of gender and age on atherosclerotic processes, disease development, and clinical manifestations. The metabolic basis for the development of atherosclerosis appears to be related to sex hormones. Thus this issue is interesting and useful for doctors of different specialties.

Abstract
The association between type 2 diabetes (T2D) and ischemic heart disease (IHD) is well established but the potential causal association needs further studying. In an attempt to elucidate the causal effect of T2D on IHD, we used three different analytical approaches in two different datasets. A well-defined cohort of 6047 women aged 50–59 years were included at baseline (1995 to 2000) and followed until 2015 for IHD. The median follow-up was 16.3 years. We used a Marginal Structural Cox model (MSM Cox) to account for time-varying exposure (time at onset of T2D) and for ten confounders (using inverse probability weighting, IPW). We also compared the MSM-Cox models with traditional Cox regression modelling in the cohort. Finally, we analyzed information on individuals from Swedish population-based registers with national coverage in a comprehensive co-relative design and extrapolated the results to MZ twins. The Hazard Ratio (HR) for IHD in relation to T2D at baseline and T2D occurring during the follow-up in the MSM Cox model weighted by IPW (based on the ten included confounders) was 1.43 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07–1.92). The corresponding HR from the traditional Cox regression model was of similar effect size. The average extrapolated MZ twin estimate from our co-relative model was 1.61 (95% CI 1.48–1.86). Our findings, based on a triangular approach, support the existence of a causal association between T2D and IHD and that preventive long-term measures in order to avoid or postpone IHD should include monitoring and treatment of both the T2D itself as well as other cardiovascular risk factors.

Abstract
Importance Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with greater risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in predominantly male populations or limited community samples. Women veterans represent a growing, yet understudied, population with high levels of trauma exposure and unique cardiovascular risks, but research on PTSD and IHD in this group is lacking. Objective To determine whether PTSD is associated with incident IHD in women veterans. Design, Setting, and Participants In this retrospective, longitudinal cohort study of the national Veterans Health Administration (VHA) electronic medical records, the a priori hypothesis that PTSD would be associated with greater risk of IHD onset was tested. Women veterans 18 years or older with and without PTSD who were patients in the VHA from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2017, were assessed for study eligibility. Exclusion criteria consisted of no VHA clinical encounters after the index visit, IHD diagnosis at or before the index visit, and IHD diagnosis within 90 days of the index visit. Propensity score matching on age at index visit, number of prior visits, and presence of traditional and female-specific cardiovascular risk factors and mental and physical health conditions was conducted to identify women veterans ever diagnosed with PTSD, who were matched in a 1:2 ratio to those never diagnosed with PTSD. Data were analyzed from October 1, 2018, to October 30, 2020. Exposures PTSD, defined by International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9), or International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), diagnosis codes from inpatient or outpatient encounters. Main Outcomes and Measures Incident IHD, defined as new-onset coronary artery disease, angina, or myocardial infarction, based on ICD-9 and ICD-10 diagnosis codes from inpatient or outpatient encounters, and/or coronary interventions based on Current Procedural Terminology codes. Results A total of 398 769 women veterans, 132 923 with PTSD and 265 846 never diagnosed with PTSD, were included in the analysis. Baseline mean (SD) age was 40.1 (12.2) years. During median follow-up of 4.9 (interquartile range, 2.1-9.2) years, 4381 women with PTSD (3.3%) and 5559 control individuals (2.1%) developed incident IHD. In a Cox proportional hazards model, PTSD was significantly associated with greater risk of developing IHD (hazard ratio [HR], 1.44; 95% CI, 1.38-1.50). Secondary stratified analyses indicated that younger age identified women veterans with PTSD who were at greater risk of incident IHD. Effect sizes were largest for those younger than 40 years at baseline (HR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.55-1.93) and decreased monotonically with increasing age (HR for ≥60 years, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.12-1.38). Conclusions and Relevance This cohort study found that PTSD was associated with increased risk of IHD in women veterans and may have implications for IHD risk assessment in vulnerable individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Specific clinical and demographic risk factors may be associated with improving or worsening neurologic outcomes within a population of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with a history of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The objective of this study was to determine the changes in neurologic outcome during a 14-day recovery as it relates to initial stroke severity in AIS patients with OSA. METHODS This retrospective study analyzed baseline clinical risk factors and demographic data collected in a regional stroke center from January 2010 to June 2016. Our primary endpoint measure was the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score and our secondary endpoint measures included the clinical factors associated with improving (NIHSS score ≤7) or worsening (NIHSS score >7) neurological outcome. The relative contribution of each variable to stroke severity and related outcome was determined using a logistic regression. The regression models were checked for the overall correct classification percentage using a Hosmer-Lemeshow test, and the sensitivity of our models was determined by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. RESULTS A total of 5469 AIS patients were identified. Of this, 96.89% did not present with OSA while 3.11% of AIS patients presented with OSA. Adjusted multivariate analysis demonstrated that in the AIS population with OSA, atrial fibrillation (AF) (odds ratio [OR] = 3.36, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.289-8.762, P = 0.013) and changes in ambulatory status (OR = 2.813, 95% CI, 1.123-7.041, P = 0.027) showed an association with NIHSS score >7 while being Caucasian (OR = 0.214, 95% CI, 0.06-0.767, P = 0.018) was associated with NIHSS score ≤7. CONCLUSION In AIS patients with OSA, AF and changes in ambulatory status were associated with worsening neurological outcome while Caucasian patients were associated with improving neurological outcome. Our findings may have significant implications for patient stratification when determining treatment protocols with respect to neurologic outcomes in AIS patients with OSA.

Abstract
Objective: This article describes the women population and work at a unique Women’s Health Cardiology Clinic in order to raise cardiovascular disease awareness with an emphasis on women-specific risk factors, and thus to improve women’s clinical outcomes. This expectantly will aid in opening similar centers allowing more women to get superior care. Methods: Electronic medical records of women referred to the Women’s Health Cardiology Clinic were analyzed. The statistical analysis is descriptive in nature. Women’s Health Cardiology Clinic personnel work as a multidisciplinary team, and patients receive specialized diagnostic tests and treatments. Referrals are by physicians according to traditional and women’s specific risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Results: 985 women visited the Women’s Health Cardiology Clinic, accumulating 2062 visits. Median age was 57.5 years. The majority of the women were menopausal (575 women, 58%), 62 pregnant with complications and 25 oncology patients. At least, 30% of women had diabetes/hypertension/or dyslipidemia. 72 women had a history of either cerebrovascular event or acute coronary syndrome, and 139 women had evidence of atherosclerosis. Overall, 388 women underwent endothelial function test, 40% of these women had a score indicating endothelial dysfunction. 277 women underwent a psychological intervention. Conclusion: Described here are the experiences from a multidisciplinary Women’s Health Cardiology Clinic using a gender-specific cardiovascular care approach for women geared toward improved health and wellbeing. It is of utmost importance that this report will raise women-specific cardiovascular disease risk factors awareness in order to promote women’s cardiovascular and overall health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may affect the risk of death due to cardiovascular disease (CVD) differently in men versus women. METHODS We examined CVD mortality rates between 2007 and 2017 among all New York City residents living with HIV and aged 13+ by sex, using data from city HIV surveillance and vital statistics and the National Death Index. Residents without HIV were enumerated using modified US intercensal estimates. We determined associations of HIV status with CVD mortality by sex and neighborhood poverty, defined as the percent of residents living below the federal poverty level, after accounting for age, race/ethnicity, and year. RESULTS There were 3234 CVD deaths reported among 147 915 New Yorkers living with HIV, with the proportion of deaths due to CVD increasing from 11% in 2007 to 22% in 2017. The age-standardized CVD mortality rate was 2.7/1000 person-years among both men and women with HIV. The relative rate of CVD mortality associated with HIV status was significantly higher among women (adjusted rate ratio [aRR] 1.7, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.6-1.8) than men (aRR 1.2, 95% CI 1.1-1.3) overall, and within strata defined by neighborhood poverty. Sex differences in CVD mortality rates were the greatest when comparing individuals living with HIV and having detectable HIV RNA and CD4+ T-cell counts <500 cells/uL with individuals living without HIV. CONCLUSIONS Among people with HIV, 1 in 5 deaths is now associated with CVD. HIV providers should recognize the CVD risk among women with HIV, and reinforce preventive measures (eg, smoking cessation, blood pressure control, lipid management) and viremic control among people living with HIV regardless of neighborhood poverty to reduce CVD mortality.Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) increases cardiovascular disease mortality risks to a greater degree among women than men, even after accounting for neighborhood poverty. HIV providers should emphasize cardiovascular disease prevention (eg, smoking cessation, hypertension control, lipid management) and viremic control.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a health care problem in women that increases morbimortality, particularly in developing countries. There is limited information regarding atypical risk factors associated with IHD in Mexican women. AIM To explore risk factors in women that could contribute to IHD and myocardial dysfunction using the single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion study (MPS). METHODS We designed a cross-sectional study in which we evaluated atypical and typical risk factors using a clinical questionnaire. We performed a SPECT-MPS to evaluate the presence of ischemia/infarction, decreased left ventricular ejection fraction, systolic dyssynchrony and diastolic function by peak filling rate and time to peak filling rate. RESULTS 172 women were included, 64 with IHD. Adverse events during pregnancy (premature birth and miscarriage), rheumatoid arthritis, gynecological conditions (menopause and age of first menstruation) and low educational level, together with previously known typical risk factors were associated with infarction or ischemia and ventricular dysfunction. Potential associated factors for systolic dyssynchrony were rheumatoid arthritis (OR: 2.90, 95% CI: 0.95-8.66, p = 0.054) and history of premature birth (OR: 0.13, 95% CI: 0.01-0.66, p <0.01). Although those women with arterial hypertension and smoking shown an increased risk for dyssynchrony, these factors were not statistically significant. Low-educational level (OR 2.16, 95% CI 1.1-4.18, p = 0.019) was associated with decreased peak filling rate. CONCLUSION The presence of atypical risk factors in women could lead to decreased myocardial function, particularly in women at risk of developing IHD.

Abstract
Background For decades, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) have been known as men's disease. However, recent research studies showed that they have become more common in women. Smoking is a strong risk factor for CVD especially that of coronary artery disease (CAD). Several studies reported that women are more susceptible to drastic sequels of smoking than men. There is limited data regarding the impact of smoking on post-revascularization clinical events stratified by gender. This study aimed to investigate if gender significantly changes the incidence of adverse clinical outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) among those with history of smoking. Methods Participants were selected from two hospitals from 2003 to 2019. Among patients who had PCI (index PCI), those with stable CAD who underwent elective PCI were included. Exclusion criteria were defined as primary PCI and those with multiple prior revascularizations. Participants were followed up seeking for major adverse cardiac events (MACE) including revascularization (PCI or coronary artery bypass grafting), myocardial infarction, and coronary death in three time intervals according to the time of index PCI (short term: up to 24 hours, mid-term: 24 hours to less than 6 months, and long term: more than 6 months). Results Of the 1799 patients, 61% were men and 47.08% had history of smoking (75% of the smokers were men). At the time of index PCI, smokers were significantly younger than nonsmokers. Also, MACE were significantly higher in smokers than nonsmokers, which was particularly pronounced at the long-term interval. In the nonsmokers group, there was no difference in MACE occurrence between men and women. However, of the smokers, women showed significantly higher MACE rate compared with men peers. Conclusion Smoking makes women more prone to MACE in comparison to men among patients with stable CAD after PCI with drug-eluting stent.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Toxoplasma gondii is a worldwide protozoon that can infect all nucleated vertebrate cells. Little information is available about the association between T. gondii infection and coronary atherosclerosis. METHODS A total of 320 cases were enrolled (160 patients with coronary atherosclerosis and 160 non-atherosclerotic individuals). Blood samples were collected to measure anti-T. gondii immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and serum lipid profile. Coronary angiogram was also performed. RESULTS The seroprevalence of anti-Toxoplasma antibodies in atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic individuals was 63.1% and 46.2%, respectively, with higher levels of anti-T. gondii IgG in atherosclerotic patients. Consumption of contaminated water, unwashed fruits and vegetables and raw meat and contact with soil were significant risk factors for Toxoplasma infection. Significant differences were detected in serum levels of low-density lipoproteins, triglycerides and cholesterol between both groups. Positive correlations were detected between ELISA titres and serum levels of low-density lipoproteins, triglycerides and cholesterol, disease severity and the number of affected vessels. Male gender and contact with soil had a significant association with positive T. gondii serology in atherosclerotic patients. CONCLUSIONS Patients with coronary atherosclerosis have a high prevalence of T. gondii infection. More studies are crucial to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the effects of chronic toxoplasmosis on coronary atherosclerosis.

Abstract
Valvular heart diseases have long been considered to be similar in men and women and across races/ethnicities. Recently, studies have demonstrated major differences between sexes. Unfortunately, studies on valvular heart diseases, as on other cardiovascular diseases, are mostly performed in Caucasian men or in cohorts with a vast majority of Caucasian men. Therefore, our knowledge on valvular diseases in women and non-Caucasians remains limited. Nevertheless, aortic stenosis has been shown to be almost as prevalent in women as in men, and less prevalent in African Americans. Men appear to have a more calcified aortic valve lesion, and women tend to have a more fibrosed one. Primary mitral regurgitation is more frequent in women who have more rheumatic and Barlow etiologies, whereas men have more fibroelastic deficiency and posterior leaflet prolapse/flail. Left ventricular remodelling due to valvular heart diseases is sex related in terms of geometry and probably also in composition of the tissue. Outcomes seem to be worse in women after surgical interventions and better than or equivalent to men after transcatheter ones. Regarding other valvular heart diseases, very few studies are available: Aortic regurgitation is more frequent in men, isolated tricuspid regurgitation more frequent in women. Rheumatic valve diseases are more frequent in women and are mostly represented by mitral and aortic stenoses. Many other sex/gender- and race/ethnic-specific studies are still needed in epidemiology, pathophysiology, presentation, management, and outcomes. This review aims to report the available data on sex differences and race specificities in valvular heart diseases, with a primary focus on aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation.

Abstract
Evidence of an association between psychosocial stress and mortality continues to accumulate. However, despite repeated calls in the literature for further examination into the physiological and behavioral pathways though which stress affects health and mortality, research on this topic remains limited. This study addresses this gap by employing a counterfactual-based mediation analysis of eight behavioral, biological, and psychological pathways often hypothesized to play a role in the association between stress and health. First, we calculated the survival rate of all-cause mortality associated with cumulative psychosocial stress (high vs. low/moderate) using random effects accelerated failure time models among a sample of 7108 adults from the Midlife in the United States panel study. Then, we conducted a multiple mediator mediation analysis utilizing a counterfactual regression framework to determine the relative contributions of each mediator and all mediators combined in the association between stress and mortality. Exposure to high psychosocial stress was associated with a 0.76 times reduced survival rate over the follow-up period 1995-2015, while adjusting for age, sex, race, income, education, baseline health, and study design effects. The mediators accounted for 49% of this association. In particular, smoking, sedentary behavior, obesity/BMI, and cardiovascular disease displayed significant indirect effects and accounted for the largest reductions in the total effect of stress on mortality, with natural indirect effects of 14%, 12%, 11%, and 4%, respectively. In conclusion, traditional behavioral and biological risk factors play a significant role in the association between psychosocial stress and mortality among middle and older adults in the US context. While eliminating stress and the socioeconomic disparities that so often deliver people into high-stress scenarios should be the ultimate goal, public health interventions addressing smoking cessation, physical activity promotion, and cardiovascular disease treatment may pay dividends for preventing premature mortality in the near-term.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Smoking and dyslipidaemia are known individual risk factors of coronary artery disease (CAD). The present study examined the combined risk of smoking and dyslipidaemia on coronary atherosclerosis. METHODS Coronary artery calcium (CAC), measured by cardiac CT, was used to assess the extent of CAD, which was related to smoking and dyslipidaemia using logistic regression, adjusted for age, sex, hypertension, BMI and family history of ischaemic heart disease. RESULTS Seventy-one patients (46 men, 25 women: median age of 53.7yrs; IQR = 47.0-59.5) were recruited. The mean log10 CAC score in never-smokers without dyslipidaemia (reference group) was 0.37 (SD = 0.73), while the value in those with a history of smoking was 0.44 ± 0.48 (mean difference: 0.07, 95%CI:-0.67 to 0.81, p = 0.844), dyslipidaemia was 1.07 ± 1.08 (mean difference: 0.71, 95%CI: 0.24 to 1.17, p = 0.003), and both risk factors was 1.82 ± 0.64 (mean difference: 1.45, 95%CI:0.88 to 2.02, p < 0.001). For individuals in the reference group, the proportions with none, one and multiple vessel disease were 80.6%, 16.1% and 3.2%; for those with a history of smoking or with dyslipidaemia were 50.0%, 25.0% and 25.0%; and for those with both risk factors were 8.3%, 25.0% and 66.7%. Patients with a history of both risk factors had greater adjusted risks of having one- vessel disease - OR = 14.3 (95%CI = 2.1-98.2) or multiple vessel disease: OR = 51.8 (95%CI = 4.2-609.6). CONCLUSIONS Smoking and dyslipidaemia together are associated with high coronary artery calcification and CAD, independent of other major risk factors.

Abstract
Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) can maintain self-renewal and enhanced multidifferentiation potential through the release of a variety of paracrine factors and extracellular vesicles, allowing them to repair damaged organs and tissues. Consequently, considerable attention has increasingly been paid to their application in tissue engineering and organ regeneration. Here, we provide a comprehensive overview of the current status of ADSC preparation, including harvesting, isolation, and identification. The advances in preclinical and clinical evidence-based ADSC therapy for bone, cartilage, myocardium, liver, and nervous system regeneration as well as skin wound healing are also summarized. Notably, the perspectives, potential challenges, and future directions for ADSC-related researches are discussed. We hope that this review can provide comprehensive and standardized guidelines for the safe and effective application of ADSCs to achieve predictable and desired therapeutic effects.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of replacing sitting with standing on cardiovascular risk factors tested in clinical trials. Methods We searched databases from inception up to August 28, 2019, for studies examining the effect of replacing sitting with standing on fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, and lipid levels; blood pressure; body fat mass; weight; and waist circumference in healthy adults. Differences in mean ± SD values were used for pooling the data and calculating the mean differences and CIs. Results The search found 3507 abstracts. Nine clinical trials (8 randomized and 1 nonrandomized) with 877 (64.4% [n=565] women) participants met all inclusion criteria. The mean ± SD age was 45.34±5.41 years; mean follow-up was 3.81 months, and mean difference in standing time between the intervention and control groups was 1.33 hours per day. The follow-up fasting blood glucose and body fat mass values were slightly but significantly lower than baseline records in the intervention groups compared with control groups (−2.53; 95% CI, −4.27 to −0.79 mg/dL; and −0.75; 95% CI, −0.91 to −0.59 kg). The analysis for fasting insulin levels, lipid levels, blood pressure, weight, and waist circumference revealed no significant differences. Conclusion Replacing sitting with standing can result in very small but statistically significant decreases in fasting blood glucose levels and body fat mass with no significant effect on lipid levels, blood pressure, weight, and waist circumference. Replacing sitting with standing can be used as an adjunctive intervention to decrease the burden of cardiovascular risk factors but cannot be used as an alternative to physical activity to decrease sedentary time.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the most important cause of death in older women. Although there is strong evidence in the literature that moderate lifestyle physical activity (PA) is effective in modifiable CVD risk factors, there is limited evidence demonstrating which activities are effective in women. This systematic review was conducted to evaluate the effect of lifestyle PA interventions on CVD risk factors in women. Various databases were searched for English articles from 2000 to 2019. Eight articles met the selection criteria. It is recommended to use different combinations of interventions including moderate PA, to reduce CVD risk factors in women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study sought to determine whether the breast gland adipose tissue is associated with different rates of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in pre-menopausal women. BACKGROUND To our knowledge, no study investigated the impact of breast adipose tissue infiltration on MACEs in pre-menopausal women. METHODS Prospective multicenter cohort study conducted on pre-menopausal women >40 years of age without cardiovascular disease and breast cancer at enrollment. The study started in January 2000 and ended in January 2009, and the end of the follow-up for the evaluation of MACEs was in January 2019. Participants underwent mammography to evaluate breast density and were divided into 4 groups according to their breast density. The primary endpoint was the probability of a MACE at 10 years of follow-up in patients staged for different breast deposition/adipose tissue deposition. RESULTS The propensity score matching divided the baseline population of 16,763 pre-menopausal women, leaving 3,272 women according to the category of breast density from A to D. These women were assigned to 4 groups of the study according to baseline breast density. At 10 years of follow-up, we had 160 MACEs in group 1, 62 MACEs in group 2, 27 MACEs in group 3, and 16 MACEs in group 4. MACEs were predicted by the initial diagnosis of lowest breast density (hazard ratio: 3.483; 95% confidence interval: 1.476 to 8.257). Further randomized clinical trials are needed to translate the results of the present study into clinical practice. The loss of ex vivo breast density models to study the cellular/molecular pathways implied in MACE is another study limitation. CONCLUSIONS Among pre-menopausal women, a higher evidence of adipose tissue at the level of breast gland (lowest breast density, category A) versus higher breast density shows higher rates of MACEs. Therefore, the screening mammography could be proposed in overweight women to stage breast density and to predict MACEs. Abstract
Background Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is regarded as an urgent clinical entity, and identification of differentially expressed genes, lncRNAs, and altered pathways shall provide new insight into the molecular mechanisms behind AMI. Materials and Methods Microarray data was collected to identify key genes and lncRNAs involved in AMI pathogenesis. The differential expression analysis and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) were employed to identify the upregulated and downregulated genes and pathways in AMI. The protein-protein interaction network and protein-RNA interaction analysis were utilized to reveal key long noncoding RNAs. Results In the present study, we utilized gene expression profiles of circulating endothelial cells (CEC) from 49 patients of AMI and 50 controls and identified a total of 552 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Based on these DEGs, we also observed that inflammatory response-related genes and pathways were highly upregulated in AMI. Mapping the DEGs to the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and identifying the subnetworks, we found that OMD and WDFY3 were the hub nodes of two subnetworks with the highest connectivity, which were found to be involved in circadian rhythm and organ- or tissue-specific immune response. Furthermore, 23 lncRNAs were differentially expressed between AMI and control groups. Specifically, we identified some functional lncRNAs, including XIST and its antisense RNA, TSIX, and three lncRNAs (LINC00528, LINC00936, and LINC01001), which were predicted to be interacting with TLR2 and participate in Toll-like receptor signaling pathway. In addition, we also employed the MMPC algorithm to identify six gene signatures for AMI diagnosis. Particularly, the multivariable SVM model based on the six genes has achieved a satisfying performance (AUC = 0.97). Conclusion In conclusion, we have identified key regulatory lncRNAs implicated in AMI, which not only deepens our understanding of the lncRNA-related molecular mechanism of AMI but also provides computationally predicted regulatory lncRNAs for AMI researchers.

Abstract
Ischaemic heart disease (IHD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among women and men yet women are more often underdiagnosed, have a delay in diagnosis, and/or receive suboptimal treatment. An implicit gender-bias with regard to lack of recognition of sex-related differences in presentation of IHD may, in part, explain these differences in women compared with men. Indeed, existing knowledge demonstrates that angina does not commonly relate to obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). Emerging knowledge supports an inclusive approach to chest pain symptoms in women, as well as a more thoughtful consideration of percutaneous coronary intervention for angina in stable obstructive CAD, to avoid chasing our tails. Emerging knowledge regarding the cardiac autonomic nervous system and visceral pain pathways in patients with and without obstructive CAD offers explanatory mechanisms for angina. Interdisciplinary investigation approaches that involve cardiologists, biobehavioural specialists, and anaesthesia/pain specialists to improve angina treatment should be pursued.
