Abstract
PURPOSE The objectives of this study were to translate and culturally adapt the Barriers to Physical Activity and Disability Survey (B-PADS) into the Thai context and to assess its inter- and intra-rater reliability. METHODS Participants were experts in the field of spinal cord injury (SCI, n = 3), linguistic experts (n = 7), Thai-English bilingual speakers (n = 40), Thai physiotherapists (n = 8), and people with SCI living in Thailand (n = 43). The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the B-PADS into the Thai context was conducted using a 6-step process; forward translation, reconciliation of the two translated versions, backward-translation, harmonisation, backward-translation of the revised version, and cognitive debriefing with potential users and target population. The reliability of the translated tool was assessed using Cohen's kappa (K) and McNemar's test. RESULTS The inter-rater reliability test demonstrated high-range agreement for the majority of statements (27 out of 38; Cohen's K > 0.60) in the Thai-B-PADS final version. The intra-rater reliability test revealed that the majority of the statements (29 out of 38) in the Thai-B-PADS final version obtained substantial (Cohen's K = 0.61-0.80, p < 0.05) to perfect agreement (Cohen's K = 1.0, p < 0.05). McNemar's test displayed no statistically significant differences amongst assessors (p > 0.05) for nearly all statements. CONCLUSION The Thai-B-PADS final version was successfully translated and culturally adapted for people with SCI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE (1) To assess prevalence and severity of socio-ecological barriers to leisure time physical activity (LTPA) in a sample of adults with spinal cord injury (SCI); (2) to examine the association of these barriers with sociodemographic characteristics and functional independence (FI); and (3) to explore which socio-ecological levels of barriers might be associated with LTPA. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Neurorehabilitation Hospital specialized in SCI. PARTICIPANTS 207 wheelchair users with SCI living in the community who attended a comprehensive check-up (22.7% women, 47.5±10.7 mean age; N=207). INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The short version of the Barriers to Physical Activity Questionnaire for People with Mobility Impairments was used to measure socio-ecological barriers to LTPA. The Spinal Cord Independence Measure III was used to measure FI. The Physical Activity Recall Assessment for People with SCI was used to quantify LTPA. Several multiple linear regression models were computed to examine the associations between socio-ecological barriers and sociodemographic factors, LTPA and FI. RESULTS A high prevalence of barriers to LTPA was found. Seven of these barriers (2 intrapersonal, 3 organizational, and 2 community) were present for >60% of the participants. Intrapersonal and organizational barriers had a higher effect on participants with lower FI and women. Interpersonal barriers were higher for older participants and with lower FI, while community barriers were higher for unemployed participants. Finally, intrapersonal and interpersonal barriers were negatively associated with LTPA, and FI revealed as a moderator of the intrapersonal barriers-LTPA relation. CONCLUSIONS Given their high prevalence and their association with LTPA, the development of interventions targeting socio-ecological barriers to LTPA in people with SCI becomes crucial. The associations of these barriers with FI and sociodemographic characteristics should also be considered for these interventions to be as specific and effective as possible.

Abstract
PURPOSE To gain knowledge of the experiences and perceptions of using fitness apps by full-time wheelchair users with spinal cord injury (SCI) and to explore experiences and perceptions of using these apps in relation to barriers to and facilitators of physical activity (PA). MATERIALS AND METHODS A qualitative design was employed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten manual wheelchair users with SCI. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Four themes were developed: 1) App functionality and experience, 2) Enhancing motivation, 3) Precursors to engagement and 4) Knowledge gaps. Experience and perception were strongly influenced by app design, particularly the presence or absence of features tailored for wheelchair users. Many apps incorporated the use wearable or mountable sensors. Fitness apps were perceived to increase motivation, although, this had its limitations. Conversely, apps were reported to have limited influence on commonly reported barriers to PA. Furthermore, the data highlighted gaps in knowledge which created barriers to effective app use. CONCLUSIONS Fitness apps were perceived to increase motivation to engage in PA in manual wheelchair users with SCI. However, more needs to be done to further develop app features for wheelchair users with SCI and to address remaining barriers to engagement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical activity levels of adults worldwide have reported a rising trend in sedentarism. This study's main objective is to analyze and understand the current tendency in this field and in physical literacy among Malaysian adults in order to improve physical performance. METHODS The sample from which the data were collected corresponded to 352 Malaysian participants (N = 176 non-disabled, N = 176 physical disability) using The Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities questionnaire. RESULTS Four factors were extracted, consisting of leisure activities, home maintenance, household chores, and career. The group with physical disability reported higher physical activity levels (14.30 MET h/day) compared to non-disabled (12.77 MET h/day), performing higher in leisure activities and light exercise. The compliance rate to health-beneficial exercise was 12.8% and was significantly higher among those with physical disability. Self-reported physical activity level correlated moderately well to overall MET performed p < 0.000, (r = 0.57). Only 2.8% of the respondents were aware of the recommendations outlined by health guidelines. CONCLUSION The results indicated that the population surveyed was moderately active but had low compliance to exercise habits as recommended by international health guidelines. Non-participation in prescribed exercises was linked to higher education, urban dwellers, and higher income. The study also highlighted very low physical literacy among respondents in health recommended exercise guidelines.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify factors that are associated with sports participation following spinal cord injury (SCI). STUDY DESIGN Case-control study. SETTING Spinal Rehabilitation outpatient clinic in a tertiary hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. PARTICIPANTS Thirty-one sports participants (SP) and thirty-four non-sports participants (NSP) (N = 65) met the following inclusion criteria; chronic SCI more than one year, age between 18 and 50 years, both traumatic and non-traumatic SCI at C5 level and below, complete or incomplete SCI (AIS A-D) and mobilizing with either manual or motorized wheelchair independently. METHODS Face-to-face interviews were performed with a 22-item self-constructed questionnaire which contained four domains of variables; socio-demographic, SCI-related, environmental and sports-related factors. Data collection was done between June 2017 and May 2018. RESULTS Traumatic SCI, pre-injury interest in sports, pre-injury sports participation, ability to drive own vehicles, and being employed were significantly associated with sports participation post-SCI (p < 0.05). Multiple logistic regression revealed traumatic SCI (p = 0.012, OR 34.70, CI 2.21-545.90) and pre-injury interest in sports (p = 0.046, OR 29.10, CI 1.06-798.95) to be independent predictors of sports participation post-SCI. CONCLUSION Traumatic SCI and pre-injury interest in sports were predictors of sports participation post-SCI. Pre-injury sports participation, being employed, and the ability to drive own vehicles were positively associated with sports participation. Findings from this study suggest a few crucial differences in facilitators and barriers to sports participation in Malaysia compared to other countries.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Exergaming is a type of serious game that requires active bodily movements for video gameplay. This game-based exercise is gaining interest as a form of leisure activity of moderate-vigorous dose intensity. OBJECTIVE This case report sought to assess the effects of exergaming training (i.e. Move Boxing, Move Tennis, and Move Gladiator Duel) on aerobic capacity, feasibility, enjoyment and motivation in two individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). CASE DESCRIPTIONS Two males with SCI at the level of L4 and T10, aged 32 and 39, respectively, underwent home-based exergaming training sessions over a period of 12-18 weeks, conducted within moderate-vigorous intensity training zones for health improvements as recommended by health guidelines. Their peak oxygen consumption (VO2), physical activity levels and perceived enjoyment were evaluated before, during and after the completion of the training. OUTCOMES Participant peak VO2 improved (effect size g = 2.7) from their baseline values (Participant A: 16.0 ± 0.7 mL/kg/min to 41.7 ± 8.1 mL/kg/min; Participant B: 13.5 ± 0.8 mL/kg/min to 32.7 ± 5.2 mL/kg/min), with an increase in overall weekly physical activity levels. Both participants maintained a relatively high level of enjoyment scores throughout their training period (mean: 31.9 ± 3.2, p = .56, 95% CI 0.22-1.0). CONCLUSION A home-based exergaming training program improved aerobic capacity and level of physical activity, while maintaining adherence to the exercise within a relatively high perception of enjoyment for these two participants. The relatively high enjoyment scores maintained throughout the duration of the exergaming training period suggested its feasibility as a home-based exercise program and perceived as enjoyable by these individuals.

Abstract
Introduction Many barriers to physical activity (PA) exist for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Social engagement may improve motivation to perform PA, which in turn may increase PA levels. This pilot study investigates how social engagement facilitated by mobile technology may reduce lack of motivation as a barrier to PA in individuals with SCI and demonstrates design implications for future technologies. Methods A user-needs survey was conducted with participants in the community. We recruited 26 participants (16 individuals with SCI and 10 family members or peers). A participatory design process using semi-structured interviews was used to identify themes relating to PA barriers. Results One theme related to PA barriers was lack of PA-focused forums to connect with peers. Participants with SCI considered connecting with other individuals with SCI more motivating than connecting with their family members. Another key finding was that participants with SCI did not perceive that personal fitness trackers were targeted towards wheelchair-based activities. Conclusions Engagement and communication with peers who have similar functional mobility levels and life experiences can potentially improve motivation for PA; however, PA-motivational platforms are not tailored towards wheelchair-users. Our preliminary findings show that some individuals with SCI are not satisfied with current mobile-technologies for wheelchair-based PA.

Abstract
Objectives: This study described leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) for people in Australia with spinal cord injury (SCI) and whether certain sociodemographic and psychosocial variables might be associated with LTPA uptake and guidelines adherence. Methods: The Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with a Physical Disability was used to measure the intensity and volume of LTPA of 1,579 individuals with SCI. Summary statistics were calculated for LTPA guidelines adherence. Analyses included regression modelling. Results: Of the 1,579 participants, 58% performed LTPA and 13% adhered to recommended guidelines for weekly LTPA. There was an association with being an "exerciser" based on the time since injury (OR = 1.02 [95% 1.01-1.03]), a traumatic injury (OR = 1.53 [95% CI 1.13-2.08]) and a higher self-rating of health (OR = 1.10 [95% CI 0.95-1.27]). Where LTPA guidelines were met, adherence was most related to a traumatic injury (OR = 1.75 [95% CI 1.02-3.02]) and being unemployed (OR = 1.53 [95% CI 1.03-2.25]). Conclusion: Of those who performed LTPA with SCI, one in four met population-specific LTPA guidelines. Sociodemographic variables were moderately associated with being an "exerciser" or LTPA "guideline-adherent."

PURPOSE This study sought to; (i) investigate the proportion of Thai individuals with spinal cord injury (Thai-SCI) who met SCI-specific physical activity (PA) guidelines, (ii) describe PA and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of Thai-SCI across different sociodemographic strata, and, (iii) measure the variance in HRQOL associated with the intensity and volume of leisure-time physical activities (LTPA). METHODS Two surveys, measuring PA and HRQOL, were used in this study. Descriptive analysis, parametric and non-parametric tests for comparing two or more groups were used to analyse the data. The relationship between PA levels and HRQOL scores was investigated using Spearman's correlation coefficients. All statistical significance level in this study were set to alpha < 0.05. RESULTS From the 200 participants, 14.5% met aerobic, 20.5% met strength training and 13.5% met both aerobic and strength training SCI-specific PA guidelines. Sedentary Thai-SCI accounted for 49% of the study sample. Thai-SCI spent 132.0 ± 254.3 (mean ± SD) minutes per week on moderate-to-heavy intensity LTPA. Average Physical and Mental Component Summary (PCS and MCS scores) of Thai-SCI were 42.3 ± 7.6 and 49.3 ± 8.4 (mean ± SD), respectively. Increases in average LTPA of moderate-to-heavy intensities were weakly correlated with increases in PCS scores and its sub-domains (r = 0.1-0.3, n = 200, all p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The average time spent on moderate-to-heavy intensity ADLs and LTPA were below SCI-specific PA guidelines and the WHO global recommendations for PA. The proportion of Thai-SCI who were sedentary was high, suggesting immediate action and implementation of strategies to promote PA for Thai-SCI.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe proportion of Thai people with spinal cord injury with a sedentary lifestyle was high.Healthcare providers in Thailand must engage to a greater degree in health-related physical activity promotion to effectively deliver physical activity and exercise knowledge to their clients with spinal cord injury.Likely, structured programs of physical activity and exercise deployed by healthcare professionals with the appropriate knowledge and skills might reverse the current trend to sedentary lifestyle in this population.Interventions to improve participation in physical activity and health-related quality of life should be tailored to the individual needs of Thai individuals with a spinal cord injury and might be better delivered seperately.

Abstract
Physical activity has become an integral component of public health systems modeling the public health core functions of assessment, policy development, and assurance. However, people with disabilities have often not been included in public health efforts to assess, develop policies, or evaluate the impact of physical activity interventions to promote health and prevent disease among people with disabilities. Addressing the core function of assessment, current physical activity epidemiology, and surveillance among people with disabilities across the globe highlights the paucity of surveillance systems that include physical activity estimates among people with disabilities. The status of valid and reliable physical activity measures among people with condition-specific disabilities is explored, including self-report measures along with wearable devices, and deficiencies in measurement of physical activity. The core functions of policy development and assurance are described in the context of community-based intervention strategies to promote physical activity among people with disabilities. The identification of research gaps in health behavior change, policy, and environmental approaches to promoting physical activity among people with disabilities is explored, along with recommendations based on the principles of inclusive and engaged research partnerships between investigators and the members of the disability community.

Abstract
Globally, physical activity levels (PAL) among able-bodied and children with a form of disability remain low. This study aims to characterize PAL and identify the demographic variables affecting children from partaking exercises to promote active lifestyles. Methods: The Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities questionnaire was used for the study. A total of 140 data responses were collected online or physically via passive snowball recruitment and quantitatively analyzed. Results: Five factors were extracted from the dimensions, consisting of household chores, household maintenance, high intensity exercise training, miscellaneous activities and school-related activities. Able-bodied children were significantly (p = 0.000) more active (median = 15.05, IQR = 13.06) than children with physical disabilities (median = 3.09, IQR = 2.58). The B40 household group reported significantly (p < 0.05, MET < 5.16/week) lower participation in health-beneficial (moderate-vigorous intensity) exercises as recommended by international guidelines. Conclusion: Children with physical disabilities reported significantly lower education achievements and PAL compared to their able-bodied counterpart. The majority of Malaysian children (69.3%) surveyed did not achieve the recommended aerobic exercise prescription.

Abstract
Objective To determine the effects of the Paraplegia Fitness Integrated Training (PARAFiT) program, which is an integrated graded physical exercise and health education program for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods This nonrandomized single-blind study included 44 participants, who were assigned to either an intervention (PARAFiT) group or an active control (conventional physiotherapy) group. The intervention group underwent the PARAFiT program (8 weeks), which consisted of circuit-based interval training, progressive upper limb resistance training, and health education sessions. During the unsupervised period, the intervention group continuously underwent health education program once a month for 2 months (8 weeks). Repeated-measures analysis of variance was used for the analysis. Results The intervention group presented with a higher level of physical activity than did the control group; however, the difference was not significant (p=0.36). Additionally, the intervention group presented with better exercise self-efficacy and cardiorespiratory fitness and stronger bilateral shoulder muscle and handgrip than did the control group (all p<0.05). Exercise adherence was higher in the intervention group than in the control group during both the supervised (80% vs. 75%) and unsupervised (40% vs. 20%) periods. Conclusion The PARAFiT program enhanced the level of physical activity, exercise self-efficacy, physical fitness, and exercise adherence among the patients with SCI. Future studies should incorporate guidelines for home-based exercises and regular monitoring to promote long-term adherence to exercise and physical activity among individuals with SCI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The current pandemic has reduced access to safe, monitored physical activity (PA) programs for persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). The use of telerehabilitation has the potential for continuing activity engagement without risking virus exposure. The present study evaluates the feasibility and efficacy of an online group-based PA program for persons with SCI. METHODS This preliminary pre-post study delivered an online group-based PA program to persons with SCI. The program consisted of 1-hour sessions twice weekly for six weeks. Online PA satisfaction questionnaires were assessed at post-treatment. Psychosocial subscales from the NeuroQOL-SF were assessed. RESULTS Participants were adult females between 3 and 32 years post-injury, 1 tetraplegic and 3 paraplegics (n = 4). All participants were highly satisfied with the online instruction, overall content, and videoconferencing platform. Participants stated that the online program was beneficial for their overall physical and psychosocial wellbeing. The program resulted in improvement in anxiety and satisfaction with social roles and activities. CONCLUSION The current pilot study demonstrates the acceptability and limited efficacy of an online PA program for those with SCI. The program resulted in improved overall perceived wellbeing and satisfaction with social roles and activities. These results have important implications for the clinical implementation of online PA programs in a hospital and community setting.

Abstract
Approximately 1·5 billion people worldwide live with a physical, mental, sensory, or intellectual disability, about 80% of which are in low-income and middle-income countries. This Series paper provides a global overview of the prevalence, benefits, and promotion policies for physical activity for people living with disabilities (PLWD). PLWD are 16-62% less likely to meet physical activity guidelines and are at higher risk of serious health problems related to inactivity than people without disabilities. Meta-analyses have shown that physical activity has beneficial effects on cardiovascular fitness (average standardised mean difference [SMD] 0·69 [95% CI 0·31-1·01]), musculoskeletal fitness (0·59 [0·31-0·87]), cardiometabolic risk factors (0·39 [0·04-0·75]), and brain and mental health outcomes (0·47 [0·21-0·73]). These meta-analyses also show that health benefits can be achieved even with less than 150 min of physical activity per week, and suggest that some physical activity is better than none. Meta-analyses of interventions to increase physical activity for PLWD have reported effect sizes ranging from SMD 0·29 (95% CI 0·17-0·41, k=10) to 1·00 (0·46-1·53, k=10). There is increasing awareness among policy makers of the needs of PLWD for full participation in physical activity. Physical activity action plans worldwide must be adequately resourced, monitored, and enforced to truly advance the fundamental rights of PLWD to fully participate in physical activity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify physical activity barrier prevalence and severity among manual wheelchair users (MWCUs) and test whether barrier impact is associated with self-reported physical activity level (PAL). DESIGN Cross-sectional survey. The Barriers to Physical Activity Questionnaire for People with Mobility Impairments (BPAQ-MI) was translated from English to Danish and administered online. The BPAQ-MI includes barriers within 4 domains and 8 subdomains and queries if an item hindered physical activity participation in the last 3 months (yes/no). If "yes," participants graded barrier severity from very small (1) to very big (5). Barrier impact scores were summed within and across domains. SETTING General community. PARTICIPANTS Danish MWCUs (N=181; 52.5% female, mean age, 48±14y.). INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES PAL was rated from not active (1) to extremely active (10). Individual barrier prevalence (frequency, %) and severity (median [interquartile range]) was computed. Unadjusted (Spearman rank correlations, domains, subdomains) and adjusted (multivariate linear regression, subdomains) associations between PAL and barrier impact were computed. RESULTS The 5 most prevalent barriers were reported by ≥49.6% of participants (2 intrapersonal and 3 community). The 5 most severe barriers all had a median of 5 (1 organizational and 4 community). Unadjusted analysis showed that PAL was inversely associated with total intrapersonal (r=-0.487, P<.01) and overall (r=-0.241, P<.01) impact and the intrapersonal "health" (r=-0.477, P<.01) and "beliefs/attitudes"(r=-0.307, P<.01) subdomains. Adjustment for shared variance revealed only the "health" subdomain impact score was independently associated with PAL (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS Intrapersonal barriers were highly prevalent. Health-related barriers were inversely related to PAL. When organizational and community barriers were present, they were rated as particularly severe. These results provide novel information that can guide the design of future interventions aiming to increase MWCUs PALs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Wheelchair tennis (WT) propulsion is uniquely characterized by the requirement for racket holding coupled with effective hand-rim contact. Thus, investigations involving strategies to enhance chair mobility skills are merited. The aim was to examine the effects of organized practice on WT match play responses and the impact of racket holding during practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS Following physiological profiling involving graded and peak exercise testing, 16 able-bodied (AB) participants performed bouts of WT match play interspersed with practice involving wheelchair mobility drills completed with (R) or without (NR) a tennis racket. A data logger recorded distance and speed. Self-efficacy was reported. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS Significant main effects for match revealed higher post-practice overall and forwards distances (p < 0.05), peak (p < 0.005) and average (p < 0.05) speeds and self-efficacy (SE) (p = 0.001) were attained. During practice, lower distances and speeds were achieved with R, with a lower physiological cost than NR. Practice increases court movement and SE with no associated increases in physiological cost. Changes represent enhanced court mobility. Differences between practice characteristics provide options for skill development and optimization of health outcomes.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONWheelchair tennis participation is likely to confer positive health effects in those with a disability or physical impairment.As chair propulsion combined with racket holding represents a complex skill challenge, novices may find the sport challenging to play.Tennis-specific mobility drills improve confidence and chair propulsion skill with likely crossover into tennis match play competence and ability.

Abstract
The purpose of the research was to analyze procrastination – a problem of time management that negatively affects the autonomy of people – in relation to leisure as a domain of everyday life. Specifically, the dynamics between leisure (activities and time invested – weekly frequency and duration of activity) and procrastination factors were studied. A sample of 185 university students (118 men and 67 women: Mage = 20.77 years, SDage = 2.53) answered a procrastination scale – validated for the Spanish population – which refers to four factors of procrastination (dilatory behaviors, indecision, lack of punctuality, and lack of planning) and an adaptation of the Time Budget (TB) (a table where the participants were asked to specify “the three activities that you prefer to do when you are not studying or doing a paid job”). Results show that leisure activities are associated with factors of procrastination. As a matter of fact, the different factors of procrastination were related to specific types of leisure activities, depending on the weekly frequency of the activity or its duration. In this sense, there are cases in which the greater frequency of leisure activities (hobbies and computing, social life and entertainment) seems to contain – control, inhibit – procrastination (specifically, affecting its component of indecision) variations in the weekly frequency and duration of certain type of activities result in higher or lower scores on certain factors of procrastination. In sum, the time invested in leisure can protect from or inhibit delaying tasks – which implies enhancing the autonomy of people – a deduction that opens up new lines of research to identify optimal time investments for coping with procrastination.

Abstract
Background The majority of people with spinal cord injury (SCI) in the United States are not meeting the recommended guidelines for regular physical activity. Behavior change techniques (eg, goal setting and action planning) that are framed within the principles of the social cognitive theory (self-efficacy and self-regulation) have the potential to enhance physical activity behavior. Objective The aim of the study was to develop and test the usability of an electronic learning (e-learning) program for improving social cognitive factors related to physical activity behavior among people with SCI. Methods The program was created through an iterative process of development and refinement, using a modification of a similar methodology used to develop evidence-informed guidelines in health promotion for people with disabilities (Guidelines, Recommendations, and Adaptations Including Disability; GRAIDs framework). The study included 4 phases: (1) initial product creation, (2) national survey, (3) expert review, and (4) usability testing. Usability testing included both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses. Results The review of the program by an expert panel (n=5) and the results from a national survey (n=142) led to several refinements. Usability testing demonstrated that the program could be completed in a timely manner (<30 min). Participants reported 5 themes: (1) the program improves social cognitions related to physical activity participation; (2) reflection of physical activity behavior; (3) positive perceptions of the quality of the program; (4) positive perceptions of the program operation and effectiveness; and (5) recommendations for improvement. Each item was incorporated into a revised program version 1.0. Conclusions This study incorporated an evidence-based framework for developing a brief 30-min e-learning program for increasing the physical activity behavior among people with SCI. The Exercise Strategies Through Optimized Relevant Interactive E-learning Storytelling (e-STORIES) program could be completed in a timely manner and was reported by participants as valuable and useful for enhancing intent-to-perform physical activity in individuals with SCI. The program has the potential to be applied in a variety of settings, but feasibility testing is required before implementing in a larger trial.

Abstract
Purpose: The Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities questionnaire provides an assessment of physical activity after spinal cord injury. This study sought to adapt, with cultural competence, the English questionnaire and translate it into Bahasa Malaysia, including evaluation of content and face validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability, and completion of a factor analysis in order to validate the Malaysian version.Materials and methods: A total of 250 participants completed the questionnaire that was distributed via email, postal mail, the internet, physically and by word of mouth. Sixty-eight respondents were re-contacted to complete the questionnaire again.Results: The adapted PASIPD demonstrated adequate internal consistency Cronbach's α = 0.68 and acceptable test-retest reliability, intraclass correlation = 0.87. Factor analysis extracted four main dimensions for physical activity; factor 1 (heavy housework, home repair, lawn work and gardening), factor 2 (sports and recreation), factor 3 (light housework and caring for another person) and factor 4 (leisure and occupational activities) that accounted for 64% of the physical activities' total variance.Conclusion: The Malaysian-adapted English and translated Bahasa Malaysia versions of the questionnaires intended to measure physical activity levels in individuals with spinal cord injury, demonstrated good to acceptable validity and reliability. However, some individual items revealed weak reliability measures. Further work is needed to validate the questionnaire's criterion validity against other physical activity measures.Implications for rehabilitationThe Malaysian adaptation of the Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities questionnaire provided preliminary support for its use since it has demonstrated adequate construct validity and reliability.The Malaysian adaptation of the Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities questionnaire can quantify the physical activity level of community-dwelling individuals with spinal cord injury, whilst deriving descriptive information on their physical activities.Deploying the Physical Activity Scale for Individuals with Physical Disabilities questionnaire to a spinal cord injury population in Malaysia may provide the first data on activities of daily living in an Asian developing country.
