Abstract
BACKGROUND This study checked whether vitamin D (Vit-D) supplementation improves the efficacy of resistance training (RT) in terms of increasing muscle strength and lean body mass (LBM), and influencing cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2max) in Vit-D-deficient middle-aged healthy men. METHODS Participants (n = 28) were quasi-randomly assigned to one of two groups, which, in a double-blind manner, supplemented their diet daily with either Vit-D (8000 IU; VD) or placebo (PLC) during participation in a 12-week supervised RT program. RESULTS During the intervention, serum Vit-D concentrations increased 2.6-fold (p < 0.001) in the VD group, while no changes occurred in the PLC group. Muscle strength gains (p < 0.001) as measured in seven exercises performed on RT equipment and increases (p < 0.001) in LBM were similar in the two groups. Total fat mass, percent total fat, and percent android fat decreased (p < 0.05) to a similar extent in both groups, but there was no change in VO2max in either group. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, in healthy Vit-D-insufficient middle-aged men engaged in resistance training, Vit-D supplementation increases serum 25(OH)D levels but does not enhance gains in muscle strength and LBM, or decreases in fat mass and fat percentage, and does not affect cardiorespiratory fitness.

Abstract
Introduction Obesity is measured scientifically by calculating body mass index (BMI). Body mass index in men is linked to various hormonal imbalances. This study aims to observe the relationships between BMI, vitamin D, and testosterone levels in patients attending the outpatient clinic at Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, Pakistan. Methods This observational cross-sectional study involved 272 patients, presenting to the medical outpatient department from January 1st, 2023, to December 31st, 2023. Body mass index, serum vitamin D, and testosterone levels were measured for each participant. Body mass index was categorized into normal, overweight, and obese. Statistical analysis was calculated, including descriptive statistics, logistic regression, and correlation analysis to evaluate associations between these variables. Results The mean BMI of the participants was 25.82 ± 7.88 kg/m². A significant inverse correlation was observed between BMI and vitamin D levels (r = -0.79, p < 0.001) and between BMI and testosterone levels (r = -0.87, p < 0.001). A positive correlation was found between vitamin D and testosterone levels (r = 0.87, p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed that higher BMI in the range of overweight or above was associated with a 2.5-fold increase in the likelihood of vitamin D deficiency (odds ratio (OR) = 2.50, 95% CI = 1.8-3.5, p < 0.001) and a 3.1-fold increase in the likelihood of low testosterone levels (OR = 3.10, 95% CI = 2.2-4.3, p < 0.001). Conclusion In this study, higher BMI is significantly associated with lower vitamin D and testosterone levels. These findings suggest that addressing obesity could help mitigate hormonal imbalances, such as vitamin D deficiency and low testosterone, which are linked to metabolic health risks. It can also be hypothesized that obesity can be a risk factor for vitamin D and testosterone deficiency.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies indicate that vitamin D impacts male reproductive function, with deficiency linked to infertility. This review evaluates the effect of vitamin D supplementation on male fertility, focusing on total testosterone, free testosterone, the free androgen index (FAI), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), sex-hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and estradiol. METHODS We systematically searched Medline, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Scopus from their inception until July 2024 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving adult males. The primary focus of these studies was on reproductive hormone parameters, analyzed using a random-effects meta-analysis and weighted mean difference (WMD). Evidence quality was assessed using ROB2 and GRADE. Meta-regression and dose-response analyses were performed. RESULTS Seventeen studies met the criteria for quantitative analysis. Vitamin D supplementation significantly increased total testosterone levels (WMD 0.38, 95% CI 0.06-0.70, n = 15, I2 = 67.03). However, it had no significant effect on other hormone parameters: free testosterone (WMD 0.00, 95% CI -0.02-0.03, n = 9, I2 = 48.12), FSH (WMD -0.02, 95% CI -0.57-0.53, n = 7, I2 = 48.72), LH (WMD -0.09, 95% CI -0.30-0.12, n = 8, I2 = 0.00), SHBG (WMD 0.73, 95% CI -1.14-2.61, n = 10, I2 = 69.05), FAI (WMD -0.92, 95% CI -2.12-0.27, n = 6, I2 = 0.00), and estradiol (WMD -0.02, 95% CI -2.95-2.92, n = 5, I2 = 20.63). CONCLUSION This meta-analysis shows that vitamin D supplementation may increase total testosterone levels in men. However, further well-designed RCTs are needed to determine vitamin D's effects on other reproductive hormone parameters.

Abstract
Background Vitamin D (vitD) deficiency could affect male reproductive function. Our objective was to investigate the relationship between serum vitD concentrations and hormonal and seminal parameters in infertile patients and to compare the results with those in healthy controls. Materials and methods Infertile patients (n = 29) and normozoospermic healthy donors (n = 27) were recruited for the study. Serum concentrations of vitD, total testosterone, estradiol, and sex hormone-binding globulin were determined using chemiluminescence assays, and free testosterone concentration was determined by radioimmunoassay. Semen analysis was performed as suggested by the World Health Organization. Statistical analysis was conducted using Student's t test, contingency tables, and linear regression studies. Results VitD concentrations were lower in patients than in controls (p < 0.001). A significant association (p < 0.001) was observed between vitD concentrations <20ng/mL and infertility. In the control group, significant correlations were reported between vitD concentrations >30 ng/mL and the concentrations of testosterone (p < 0.05), free testosterone (p < 0.01), and estradiol (p < 0.05). A direct correlation was found between vitD concentration and percentage of sperm vitality (p = 0.01). VitD also positively correlated with the percentage of progressive sperm motility (p <0.05) and sex hormone-binding globulin concentrations (p < 0.01). Conclusions VitD may affect male reproductive parameters, and its deficiency could be associated with infertility.

Abstract
Diabetes constitutes a significant global public health challenge that is rapidly reaching epidemic proportions. Among the non-communicable diseases, the incidence of diabetes is rising at an alarming rate. The International Diabetes Federation has documented a 9.09% prevalence of diabetes among individuals aged between 20 and 79 years. The interplay of gonadal hormones and gender differences is critical in regulating insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, and this dynamic is particularly crucial because of the escalating incidence of diabetes. Variations in insulin sensitivity are observed across genders, levels of adiposity, and age groups. Both estrogen and testosterone are seen to influence glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. This chapter surveys the present knowledge of sex differences, sex hormones, and chromosomes on insulin imbalance and diabetes development. It further highlights the influence of metabolic traits in diabetes and changes in sex hormones during diabetic pregnancy. Notably, even stressful lifestyles have been acknowledged to induce hormonal imbalances. Furthermore, it discusses the potential of hormonal therapy to help stabilize sex hormones in diabetic individuals and focuses on the most recent research investigating the correlation between sex hormones and diabetes.

Abstract
Background Fish are rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin D, which can promote testosterone synthesis and secretion. However, some contaminants present in fish may disrupt testosterone production. Objective This study aimed to investigate the association between fish intake (total, fatty, and lean fish) and serum testosterone levels in older males. Methods This cross-sectional study included 1545 Japanese males aged 60-69 y who participated in the baseline survey of the Hitachi Health Study II. Fish intake was estimated using a validated brief-type self-administered diet history questionnaire. Total testosterone levels were measured by chemiluminescence immunoassay. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to analyze the association between fish intake and serum testosterone levels. Results Higher total fish intake was associated with higher levels of serum testosterone, with an adjusted mean [95% confidence interval (CI) of 5.63 (5.43, 5.83) and 5.99 (5.78, 6.20)] ng/mL for the 1st and 4th quartiles of total fish intake, respectively (P for trend = 0.06). When analyzing fatty and lean fish separately, higher intake of lean fish, but not fatty fish, was associated with higher levels of serum testosterone: adjusted mean (95% CI): 5.63 (5.43, 5.82) and 6.00 (5.79, 6.20) ng/mL for the 1st and 4th quartiles of lean fish intake, respectively (P for trend = 0.01). Conclusions Among older males, higher intake of total fish, particularly lean fish, was associated with higher serum testosterone levels. Curr Dev Nutr 20xx;x:xx.

Abstract
The present study investigated primary care patients and compared self-reported sexual health in Swedes and Middle Easterners; analysed differences within and between the groups and analysed differences in 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels between the groups. 522 patients responded to a health questionnaire that included items on sexual health: 225 Middle Easterners from Iran, Iraq, and Turkey and 297 Swedes. Logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR). Middle Easterners reported less sexual dysfunction than Swedes, and 75.8% of them and 18.9% of Swedes presented a 25(OH)D of < 50 nmol/L. The crude OR for reporting sexual dysfunction was 70% higher in Swedes compared to Middle Easterners (OR 1.70, 95% CI 1.15-2.50). This OR remained significant after adjustment for age, gender, waist circumference, and reported sexual desire. However, the significance disappeared after additional adjustment for 25(OH)D. In both groups, more females than males reported insufficient sexual desire. More female Middle Easterners reported sex life dissatisfaction. More female Swedes reported sexual dysfunction. Vitamin D could explain an association between gender and sex life dissatisfaction in Middle Easterners, and age could explain an association between gender and sexual dysfunction in Swedes. Age, waist circumference, and 25(OH)D levels were significant covariates in the logistic regression models. Results from the present study suggest that 25(OH)D variation partly explains differences in sexual dysfunction between the groups and between genders within the groups. Vitamin D therapy should be investigated to determine if these results are clinically useful.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Aim: The aim of this article is to present literature data and personal research of the role of D-hormoneon the functioning of the male reproductive system, and more specifically of the prostate gland, as well as the use of this vitamin D during the complex and independent treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in preclinical studies and clinical practice. PATIENTS AND METHODS Materials and Methods: The collection of relevant data were done using the scientific databases Pubmed, Google Scholar. A manual search on reproductive endocrinology and pharmacology sources were also conducted for related published studies . Selected keywords ("benign prostatic hyperplasia" OR "BPH") AND ("prostate") AND ("reproductive system and vitamin D") were used to collect data. The article also presents our personal data of preclinical studies and clinical data of the use of vitamin D as monotherapy and in the complex therapy of reproductive disorders. CONCLUSION Conclusions: The effect of vitamin D on prostate volume and BPH has shown perspective results, therefore, it is proposed to conduct further studies on the role of vitamin D in the formation of BPH and reproductive disorders, their prevention and treatment. The use of vitamin D as monotherapy or in the form of pharmaceutical compositions and its inclusion in basic treatment regimens can increase the effectiveness of the prevention and correction of reproductopathies in the presence of or due to BPH and suggests the possibility of restoring the generative potential of individuals with BPH, both with and without D-hypovitaminosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is epidemiological evidence which suggests an association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels and bone and muscle function; however, it is unclear whether vitamin D supplementation has an added benefit beyond bone health. Here, we investigated the effects of vitamin D3 supplementation (1 month) on physical performance in Chinese university students in winter. METHODS One hundred and seventeen eligible subjects with 25(OH)D (19.2 ± 7.8 ng/mL) were randomly assigned to either vitamin D3 supplement (N = 56; 1000 IU/day) or the control (N = 61) group for 1 month. Pre- and post-measurements included: 1) serum levels of 25(OH)D; 2) musculoskeletal and pulmonary function [vertical jump height (VJH) and right handgrip strength (RHS), forced vital capacity (FVC), and forced expiratory volume at 1s (FEV1)]; 3) bone turnover markers [parathyroid hormone (PTH), n-terminal osteocalcin (N-MID), and calcium]; 4) hemoglobin-related parameters [hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (HCT), red blood cells (RBC), and red cell distribution width (RDW)]; 5) lipid parameters [total triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)]; 6) Fatigue-related indicators [serum creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and total testosterone (T)]. In addition, aerobic capacity was assessed by measuring maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) at baseline. RESULTS During wintertime, supplementation with 1000 IU/d of vitamin D3 significantly increased serum 25(OH)D levels (from 18.85 ± 7.04 to 26.98 ± 5.88 ng/mL, p < 0.05), accompanied by a decrease of PTH (p < 0.05). However, vitamin D3 supplementation did not significantly impact the physical performance, serum lipid parameters, and bone turnover markers of students. Furthermore, 25(OH)D was found to be positively correlated with VJH and negatively correlated with PTH and TC at the beginning and end of the study (p < 0.05). In addition, the multiple linear regression analysis showed that 25(OH)D combined with athletic, gender, height, weight, Hb, and FVC could account for 84.0% of the VO2max value. CONCLUSIONS The study demonstrated that one-month of 1000 IU/d of vitamin D3 supplementation during the winter had beneficial effects on 25(OH)D status and PTH. However, vitamin D3 intervention was not sufficient to improve physical performance. Furthermore, 25(OH)D levels combined with athletic, Hb and FVC could be a predictor of VO2max.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vitamin D plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis and enhancing the absorption of calcium, an essential component for strengthening bones and preventing osteoporosis. There are many factors known to relate to plasma vitamin D concentration (PVDC). However, most of these studies were performed with traditional statistical methods. Nowadays, machine learning methods (Mach-L) have become new tools in medical research. In the present study, we used four Mach-L methods to explore the relationships between PVDC and demographic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors in a group of healthy premenopausal Chinese women. Our goals were as follows: (1) to evaluate and compare the predictive accuracy of Mach-L and MLR, and (2) to establish a hierarchy of the significance of the aforementioned factors related to PVDC. METHODS Five hundred ninety-three healthy Chinese women were enrolled. In total, there were 35 variables recorded, including demographic, biochemical, and lifestyle information. The dependent variable was 25-OH vitamin D (PVDC), and all other variables were the independent variables. Multiple linear regression (MLR) was regarded as the benchmark for comparison. Four Mach-L methods were applied (random forest (RF), stochastic gradient boosting (SGB), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and elastic net). Each method would produce several estimation errors. The smaller these errors were, the better the model was. RESULTS Pearson's correlation, age, glycated hemoglobin, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and hemoglobin were positively correlated to PVDC, whereas eGFR was negatively correlated to PVDC. The Mach-L methods yielded smaller estimation errors for all five parameters, which indicated that they were better methods than the MLR model. After averaging the importance percentage from the four Mach-L methods, a rank of importance could be obtained. Age was the most important factor, followed by plasma insulin level, TSH, spouse status, LDH, and ALP. CONCLUSIONS In a healthy Chinese premenopausal cohort using four different Mach-L methods, age was found to be the most important factor related to PVDC, followed by plasma insulin level, TSH, spouse status, LDH, and ALP.

Abstract
In the last few years, vitamin D functions have been studied progressively, and along with their main role in regulating calcium homeostasis, the potential function in the nervous system and the link between different psychiatric disorders and vitamin D deficiency have been revealed. The discovery of vitamin D receptors in multiple brain structures, like the hippocampus, led to the hypothesis that vitamin D deficiency could be responsible for treatment resistance in psychiatric diseases. The aim of this study was to analyze the current knowledge in the literature regarding vitamin D deficiency among individuals afflicted with psychiatric disorders and assess the potential therapeutic benefits of vitamin D supplementation. A systematic search was conducted on the PubMed database for articles published in the last five years (2016-2022) in English, focusing on human subjects. Results show that vitamin D deficiency has implications for numerous psychiatric disorders, affecting mood and behavior through its influence on neurotransmitter release, neurotrophic factors, and neuroprotection. It also plays a role in modulating inflammation, which is often elevated in psychiatric disorders. In conclusion, vitamin D deficiency is prevalent and has far-reaching implications for mental health. This review underscores the importance of exploring the therapeutic potential of vitamin D supplementation in individuals with psychiatric disorders and highlights the need for further research in this complex field.

Abstract
Background and Study Aim. In recent years, there has been a technological revolution and development in all fields, particularly the sports field. This has imposed on man a lifestyle characterized by comfort at the expense of a significant portion of his movement and activities. The problem of obesity has expanded beyond the inconsistency of the body to include its direct effect of increasing the proportion of fat and the negative impact on the work of vital organs. This disruption alters the body's internal environment and causes numerous diseases. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of a sports program on taking vitamin D to lose weight and on some biochemical variables in young adults aged 30 to 35 years old.
Materials and Methods. The study involved 10 overweight women aged 30-35 years, selected through intentional sampling. Inclusion criteria required consent, good health, and no ongoing vitamin D or exercise programs. The research employed a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design. Primary outcome measures encompassed body weight, body composition, lipid profile, and vitamin D status. Anthropometric measurements included age, height, weight, and training age. Biochemical measurements involved blood tests for cholesterol, triglycerides, and vitamin D levels. The experimental group received vitamin D tablets and a proposed aerobic exercise program for 12 weeks.
Results. The proposed aerobic sports program with vitamin D intake improved biochemical variables, such as total fat, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density cholesterol, low-density cholesterol, OH, and Vitamin D-025 for the sample under investigation. The application of the aerobic program with vitamin D led to weight loss among the study's female participants. The aerobic program with vitamin D intake has a positive effect on the general health status of the sample.
Conclusions. Based on the study's findings, it is recommended to consider the positive effects of Vitamin D on the overall functional state of the body, making it essential to incorporate an aerobic sports program across various age groups. Regular medical tests are crucial for monitoring and maintaining overall health. Emphasizing the importance of regular exercise is vital in preventing weight gain and reducing the risk of certain chronic diseases. By implementing these recommendations, individuals can enhance their overall well-being and lead a healthier lifestyle. To further validate these outcomes, similar studies should be conducted on different age groups and diverse samples.

Abstract
PURPOSE Several studies have associated the serum vitamin D level with total testosterone levels and the prostate volume. Herein, we investigated the effect of vitamin D supplementation on testosterone, prostate, and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men. MATERIALS AND METHODS Men over 40 years of age diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency (25[OH]D <20 ng/mL) who received vitamin D supplementation for one year were included in the study and administered 25,000 IU of cholecalciferol every 2 weeks. Prostate ultrasound, uroflowmetry, postvoid residual urine volume measurement, and serological tests (serum testosterone levels, etc.) were performed upon diagnosis and one year later. Participants also answered the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and Aging Males' Symptoms Scale (AMS) questionnaires. RESULTS A significant increase was observed in the vitamin D level following one year of vitamin D supplementation, with a significant decrease in the postvoid residual urine volume, total IPSS score and without a significant change in the prostate volume. Improved psychological subscale score of AMS questionnaire was observed with a statistical significance. CONCLUSIONS Vitamin D supplementation suppressed the increase in the prostate volume and improved the LUTS. Although there is no direct effect on serum testosterone levels, vitamin D supplementation helped improve hypogonadal symptoms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous systematic reviews of the effects of vitamin D on the components of male fertility have been inconclusive. This article systematically reviews the latest research to examine the relationship between vitamin D, semen quality parameters, and sex hormones production. METHODS MEDLINE, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases were searched using the appropriate keywords. RESULTS Observational studies indicate significant correlation between vitamin D levels and sperm parameters, with a particular emphasis on sperm motility, and partially suggest a relationship between higher serum testosterone and vitamin D levels. Additionally, interventional studies confirmed that vitamin D supplementation has a positive effect on sperm motility, especially progressive. However, most randomized clinical trials indicate that vitamin D treatment does not have any significant effect on testosterone or other hormone levels. CONCLUSIONS Although our findings add to the discussion regarding the effect of vitamin D on male fertility, there is still no solid evidence to support the use of vitamin D supplementation to improve the outcomes of patients with impaired sperm parameters and hormonal disorders. Additional dedicated clinical studies are needed to clarify the relationship between vitamin D and male fertility, along with its components.

Abstract
Testosterone deficiency, defined as low total testosterone combined with physical, cognitive, and sexual signs and/or symptoms, is a common finding in adult men. Functional hypogonadism (FH) is defined as borderline low testosterone (T) secondary to aging and/or comorbid conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and/or metabolic syndrome. The relationship between FH and metabolic disorders is multifactorial and bidirectional, and associated with a disruption of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Resolution of FH requires the correct diagnosis and treatment of the underlying condition(s) with lifestyle modifications considered first-line therapy. Normalization of T levels through dietary modifications such as caloric restriction and restructuring of macronutrients have recently been explored. Exercise and sleep quality have been associated with T levels, and patients should be encouraged to practice resistance training and sleep seven to nine hours per night. Supplementation with vitamin D and Trigonella foenum-graecum may also be considered when optimizing T levels. Ultimately, treatment of FH requires a multidisciplinary approach and personalized patient care.

Abstract
Age and Gender are vital determinants for the micronutrient demands of normal indviduals. Among these micronutrients are vitamins that are required in small amounts for optimum metabolism, homeostasis, and a healthy lifestyle, acting as coenzymes in several biochemical reactions. The majority of previous studies have examined such issues that relates to a specific vitamin or life stage, with the majority merely reporting the effect of either excess or deficiency. Vitamins are classified into water-soluble and fat-soluble components. The fat-soluble vitamins include vitamins (A, D, E, and K). Fat-soluble vitamins were found to have an indisputable role in an array of physiological processes such as immune regulation, vision, bone and mental health. Nonetheless, the fat-soluble vitamins are now considered a prophylactic measurement for a multitude of diseases such as autism, rickets disease, gestational diabetes, and asthma. Herein, in this review, a deep insight into the orchestration of the four different fat-soluble vitamins requirements is presented for the first time across the human life cycle beginning from fertility, pregnancy, adulthood, and senility with an extensive assessment ofthe interactions among them and their underlying mechanistic actions. The influence of sex for each vitamin is also presented at each life stage to highlight the different daily requirements and effects.

Abstract
PURPOSE Testosterone replacement and associated pharmacologic agents are effective strategies to treat male hypogonadism; however, nutraceutical agents and lifestyle modification approaches have gained medical interest. The purpose of this scoping review is to highlight the evidence (or lack thereof) of nutraceuticals and lifestyle modification approaches in the management of testosterone levels and sperm parameters. METHODS A scoping review of nonpharmacologic interventions (supplements, herbal medicines, diets, sleep, and exercise) with the potential to improve male health was undertaken to elucidate changes in testosterone levels and sperm parameters in men with hypogonadism or infertility compared with healthy patients. FINDINGS A multitude of nutraceuticals and functional nutrients are purported to stimulate testosterone production; however, only a select few have had promising results, such as zinc, vitamin D (in case of hypovitaminosis D), l-arginine, mucuna, and ashwagandha, based on well-controlled randomized clinical trials of men with low testosterone levels and related problems. Except for l-arginine, these natural agents, as well as tribulus and ω3 fatty acids, can improve some degree of sperm parameters in infertile men. Before implementing these nutraceutical agents, adequate sleep, exercise, and weight loss in patients with obesity are imperative. The effects of nonpharmacologic interventions on testosterone levels are modest and hence do not directly translate into clinical benefits. Correspondingly, androgen receptor content, but not endogenous androgens, has been regarded as the principal factor in muscle hypertrophy. IMPLICATIONS A limited number of supplements and herbal medicines can be considered as adjunctive approaches in the management of testosterone levels and sperm parameters, primarily in men with low testosterone levels and infertility, whereas most nonpharmacologic supplements appear to lack evidence. Although proper physical exercise, sleep, and diet are indisputable approaches because of the general benefits to health, the use of nutraceuticals, if considered, must be personalized by physicians and/or registered dietitians.

Abstract
There is a well-established complex interaction between vitamin D metabolism and bone and gonad functions. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential effects of vitamin D therapy on testosterone and osteocalcin (OC) levels in aged male rats. Forty-five adult male rats were divided into three groups in this study. Unlike the control group, the two experimental groups received 50 IU/kg/day and 100 IU/kg/day of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), respectively, for a 4-week period using the gavage method. Testicular tissue and blood samples from rats were collected under general anesthesia at the end of the 4-week period. Testicular tissue samples were examined using light and electron microscopy. Additionally, serum testosterone and OC levels were measured in blood samples. The 50 IU/kg dose of cholecalciferol increased testosterone and OC levels, which were lower than normal due to aging, and regulated the organization of the seminiferous tubule epithelium and interstitium more effectively than the 100 IU/kg dose of cholecalciferol. Male fertility functions and bone health, which degrade due to aging, were increased due to the use of exogenous vitamin D, although the higher dose was not associated with more effective results.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of vitamin D replacement in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS)/erectile dysfunction (ED) who did not respond to tadalafil 5 mg treatment. Patients who applied to the Andrology Clinic with LUTS/ED between September 2017 and August 2020 and used 5 mg Tadalafil daily for treatment and did not benefit from treatment for 1 month were included in the study. Vitamin D levels of the patients were analysed and Vitamin D3 100,000 IU/week oral therapy was administered for a month to the patients with low levels of Vitamin D(<20 ng/ml).The values of the patients before and after Vitamin D replacement were compared. A total of 84 patients were included in the study. The mean age was 49.175 ± 11.63(28-70) years and the mean BMI was 25.93 ± 6.82(18.26-37.87). Testosterone levels of the examined patients were 3.45 ± 0.99 ng/ml. After 1 month of Vitamin D replacement + Tadalafil 5 mg/d treatment, the international index of erectile function-erectile function (IIEF-EF) (pre-treatment: 10.73 ± 6.12, post-treatment: 24.18 ± 4.87; p = 0.001) and International Prostate Symptom Score (pre-treatment: 9.12 ± 7.16, post-treatment: 3.11 ± 1.08; p = 0.003) scores of the patients improved significantly. Evaluation of Vitamin D levels is important to improve treatment response, especially in patients who do not respond to PDE-5 inhibitors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION A few studies involved the relationship between vitamin D and diabetes mellitus (DM) with erectile dysfunction (ED), and no meta-analysis was conducted to pool these data. The main purpose of our study was to examine the changes in serum vitamin D levels in patients with DM combined with ED. METHODS An extensive search was performed, including the following words: "erectile dysfunction," "diabetes," and "vitamin D." Databases, including Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Web of Science, were retrieved to identify studies published up to September 30, 2021. Four studies were eligible for our meta-analysis. RESULTS The weighted mean difference and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated to the data we selected. The results showed that the level of vitamin D in DM with ED was significantly lower (12.5 nmol/mL) than patients with diabetes alone (p = 0.002). CONCLUSION Our novel meta-analysis suggests that vitamin D may be a risk factor for DM with ED, which can provide a new idea for the treatment and prevention of DM with ED.

Abstract
Depression is one of the common psychiatric disorders during elderly. This systematic review aims to present the relationship between vitamin D deficiency, depression and testosterone serum concentration in the middle-aged and elderly men. We performed a comprehensive search in the Google Scholar, PubMed, ProQuest, Web of Science, Cochrane, Science Direct, and Scopus databases to collect any relevant published studies. The data of the articles that had been investigated the relationship between depression and 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25[OH]D) serum concentration (nine studies), or testosterone and 25[OH]D (six studies), as the primary outcomes, were included in our review. The results of the cohort and cross-sectional studies have shown that vitamin-D deficiency is associated with the incidence of depression in older men. In addition, documents have reported the positive association between vitamin D and testosterone, and previous studies have shown that testosterone can involve in the mood. We have proposed scientific mechanisms that have shown vitamin D may also play a protective role in depression through its effect on the testosterone. Therefore, it is a low risk and safe recommendation for the middle-aged and elderly men to use the vitamin D supplement or exposure to the sunlight to prevent depression.

Abstract
The relationship between vitamin D levels and testicular hormonal function in men has not been clearly established. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship between deficiency/insufficiency levels of 25(OH)D and luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), total (TT), free (FT), and bioavailable testosterone (BT), and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in young, healthy men. We enrolled 176 healthy, active young men aged 18–35 years from a genetically homogenous population of Lower Silesia, Poland. Serum levels of 25(OH)D, LH, FSH, and TT were measured by electrochemiluminescence (ECLIA). FT levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). BT levels were calculated from TT, SHBG, and albumin. SHBG was measured by chemiluminescent immunoassay CLIA. We did not find any significant differences between the mean hormonal values (LH, FSH, TT, FT, BT, and SHBG) and the status of 25(OH)D level (deficient and insufficient). Based on our results, we concluded that there is no relationship between deficient and insufficient 25(OH)D concentration and androgen levels in young, healthy men.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Evaluate the effects of vitamin D3 (VD3) on sperm parameters and endocrine markers in infertile men with asthenozoospermia. MATERIALS AND METHODS This randomized, triple-masking, placebo-controlled clinical trial conducted on 86 asthenozoospermia infertile men with serum 25 hydroxy vitamin D3 (25(OH)VD3) < 30 ng/ml in the infertility clinic of Ahvaz Jahad daneshgahi, Iran. Patients were randomly allocated to groups A and B, who received daily 4000 IU VD3 and matching placebo respectively for 3 months. Demographic data, dietary intake, physical activity, sun exposure, anthropometric indices, serum 25(OH)VD3, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), total testosterone (T), estradiol (E2),, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), free androgen index (FAI = T/SHBG. 100), T/LH and T/E2 ratios, prolactin (PRO), parathyroid hormone (PTH), osteocalcin (OCN), phosphorus and sperm parameters were assessed. RESULTS Three months VD3 supplementation with 4000 IU/day had no significant effects body weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), body fat (BF), serum, OCN, LH, FSH, T, E2, SHBG, PRO, T/E2 ratio, FAI, semen volume, sperm count and normal sperm morphology. It increases serum 25(OH)VD3, PTH and phosphorus and seminal and serum calcium, T/LH ratio and total and progressive sperm motility and decreased significantly compared to the baseline and placebo group. CONCLUSION VD3 supplementation may affect sperm motility in men with asthenozoospermia and serum 25(OH)VD3 < 30 ng/ml. Abstract
Purpose Vitamin D (VD) acts on sperm motility, capacitation and survival but its role in steroidogenesis is less clear. Aims: To analyze seasonal variations in sex steroids and VD in a healthy male population. Materials and Methods Twenty-nine healthy males, 34.0±4.8 years were included. Blood collection in winter (W) and summer (S) was performed to measure: 25OHD, total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH), and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). Testosterone/estradiol (T/E2) ratio was calculated. Results In W, lower levels of 25OHD: 18.8±7.2 ng/mL vs. 38.8±11.9 ng/mL (p<0.0001) and LH: 3.5±1.2 mU/mL vs. 3.9±1.5 mU/mL (p=0.05), and higher levels of TT: 501.9±157.7 ng/dL vs. 405.0±128.0 ng/dL (p=0.0003), FT: 11.8±4.1 ng/dL vs. 10.2±3.7 ng/dL (p=0.017), SHBG: 28.5±10.9 nmol/L vs. 23.6±7.9 nmol/L (p=0.002) and T/E2 ratio: 30.7±19.7 ng/dL/pg/mL vs. 17.3±3.6 ng/dL/pg/mL (p=0.0015) with no variation in E2 levels were observed. A positive correlation between 25OHD and E2 (r=0.28, p=0.04) and negative correlations between 25OHD and TT (r=−0.27, p=0.049), 25OHD and FT (r=−0.32, p=0.01), and 25OHD and T/E2 (r=−0.44, p=0.0008) were found. Conclusions In healthy young male population, seasonal variations were observed in 25OHD and LH levels (higher in S) and in TT, FT, SHBG levels, and T/E2 (higher in W). Lower values of TT and FT in S are accompanied by higher levels of LH, which rules out a central mechanism for lowering testosterone. 25OHD negatively correlated with TT, FT, and T/E2 and positively correlated with E2, suggesting a relationship between VD status and changes in gonadal steroids.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is suggested that vitamin D may have a beneficial role in male reproduction. The male reproductive system is a target tissue for vitamin D. This study will aim to evaluate the effects of vitamin D supplementation on sperm parameters, seminal and serum levels of oxidative stress and serum endocrine factors in asthenospermia infertile men. METHODS/DESIGN This randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial will be conducted on 86 infertile men with idiopathic asthenozoospermia (the mobility of sperm < 40% and rapid progressive sperm motility < 32%), with serum levels of vitamin D less than 30 ng / ml in the "Infertility Clinic of Ahvaz Jahad daneshgahi", Iran. MAIN OUTCOMES MEASURE (S) Demographic data, dietary intake, physical activity, sun exposure, anthropometric indices, serum and seminal levels of MDA (Malondialdehyde), 8-hydroxy-2- Dioxy Guanosine (8-OHDG), Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) and calcium, sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI), serum 25-OHD, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), total testosterone (T), estradiol (E2), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), free androgen index (FAI = T/SHBG. 100), T/LH and T/E2 ratios, prolactin (PRO), parathyroid hormone (PTH), osteocalcin (OCN), phosphorus and sperm parameters. DISCUSSION The deficiency of vitamin D as an antioxidant is common all over the world. Numerous observational studies have shown a positive association between vitamin D levels and semen quality. However, few clinical studies have been conducted in this area. So considering with the high prevalence of this antioxidant deficiency specifically in infertile men, it seems that the supplementation of vitamin D in infertile men with insufficient levels or deficiency may improve the status of oxidative stress and thereby may affect sperm parameters and endocrine factors involved in male fertility. Abstract
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is seen very often in the men with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Due to the ability of vitamin D to reduce endothelial damage and oxidative stress, its role in preventing cardiovascular risk has been demonstrated in some studies. Since ED and cardiovascular disease have common pathogenic mechanisms, many studies have evaluated a possible relationship between vitamin D deficiency and ED. Total 120 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were evaluated in this study. Vitamin D and HbA1c values were statistically compared according to International Index of Erectile Dysfunction (IIEF-5) scores. 23.3% of 120 patients had mild, 38.3% had mild to moderate, 21.7% had moderate and 16.7% had severe ED. There was statistically difference in vitamin D levels of the patients according to IIEF-5 scores. Also, significant difference was found in HbA1c levels between the patients with severe ED and other groups. Cut-off point for vitamin D and HbA1c were determined according to IIEF-5 score in patients who were divided in to two groups (14.41 and 11.1). A statistically significant correlation was found between both cut-off points and IIEF-5 scores. Our study shows that patients with ED have a vitamin D deficiency and a poor glycemic control.

Abstract
PURPOSE Vitamin D (Vit-D) supplementation has been shown to increased muscle strength in young adults. It remains unclear if Vit-D supplementation enhances the efficacy of resistance training (RT). This study tested the hypothesis that Vit-D supplementation would enhance the RT-induced increases in muscle strength and lean body mass (LBM) in Vit-D deficient young men. METHODS Thirty-nine men (baseline serum 25(OH)D < 50 nmol L‒1) were quasi-randomly assigned to one of the two groups that performed a 12-week supervised RT program concomitant with either Vit-D (8000 IU daily; VD) or placebo (PLC) supplementation. RESULTS During 12-week RT, energy and nutrient (except Vit-D) intake and training loads did not differ in the two groups. Serum 25(OH)D levels increased from 36.3 ± 9.2 to 142.4 ± 21.9 nmol L‒1 (P < 0.05) in VD group and remained unchanged between 36.3 ± 8.9 and 29.4 ± 6.6 nmol L‒1 (P > 0.05) in PLC group. Muscle strength (1-repetition maximum) increased (P < 0.05) to an equal extent in the two groups in 5 exercises performed on RT equipment, whereas strength gains in chest press and seated row were greater (P < 0.05) in PLC compared to VD group. Total and regional LBM (measured by DXA scan) increased (P < 0.05) equally in the two groups. Android fat mass decreased (P < 0.05) in VD group only. CONCLUSION Vit-D supplementation does not enhance the efficacy of RT in terms of muscle strength and LBM gains in Vit-D deficient young healthy men.

Abstract
1,25(OH)2D3 has been demonstrated to exert direct actions on male reproductive system in humans or in animals. With age, renal synthesis of 1,25(OH)2D3 declines significantly, and vitamin D supplementation has been found to alleviate the manifestations of male reproductive aging. Therefore, the relationship between 1,25(OH)2D3 and male reproductive aging needs further study. To determine whether 1,25(OH)2D3 deficiency accelerates male reproductive senescence in aging mice, wild-type and 1α(OH)ase-/- male mice fed a rescue diet after weaning, and the reproductive phenotypes were evaluated at 12-18 mo of age. We demonstrated that 1,25(OH)2D3 deficiency accelerated male reproductive senescence, representing lower fertility efficiency and gonadal hormone levels, reducing cell proliferation, and increasing cell apoptosis, cellular senescence, and the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). We confirmed that the increased oxidative stress and DNA damage detected in 1α(OH)ase-/- mice resulted in accelerated reproductive senescence in reproductive system, since exogenous antioxidant pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) supplementation could largely rescue reproductive aging phenotype. We further validated the antioxidant effect of 1,25(OH)2D3 in aging wild-type mice and senescent Leydig cells by treated 18-mo-old wild-type male mice or TM3 cells with 1,25(OH)2D3 or vehicle. We assessed the differential gene expression between grouped senescent TM3 cells using RNA-Seq and verified 1,25(OH)2D3 exerted an antioxidant role by acting NF-κB/SOD. This study suggests that 1,25(OH)2D3 deficiency accelerates male reproductive senescence in aging mice by increasing oxidative stress and 1,25(OH)2D3 plays a role in alleviating oxidative stress via NF-κB/SOD signaling pathway.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Based on this studies, we propose that 1,25(OH)2D3 can delay male reproductive aging, and we also propose that 1,25(OH)2D3 regulates NF-κB to exert antioxidant effect. Therefore, by targeting a fundamental aging mechanism, 1,25(OH)2D3 may be an effective agent in maintaining fertility and postponing male reproductive senescence.

Abstract
PURPOSE Despite a biological plausibility of a direct link between low vitamin D and androgen deficiency, the association remains inconclusive in epidemiological studies. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis of case-control studies aim to assess whether and in what populations such an association can be demonstrated. METHODS A systematic search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of science, Science Direct, and CINAHL. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in total testosterone (TT) levels between men with 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) <20 and ≥20 ng/mL were combined using random-effects models. Funnel plot and trim-and-fill analysis were used to assess publication bias. Heterogeneity source was explored by a sub-group analysis according to health-related characteristics of the study populations. RESULTS Eighteen included studies collectively gave information on 9892 men with vitamin D deficiency and 10,675 controls. The pooled SMD revealed a slight, albeit just significant, positive association between 25(OH)D and TT (pooled SMD: -0.23, 95% CI: -0.45 to -0.01; P = 0.04) with a large between-study heterogeneity (I2 = 98%, Pfor heterogeneity < 0.00001). At the sub-group analysis, a significant positive association, along with noticeable decrease in heterogeneity, could only be demonstrated in studies of patients with frailty states (pooled SMD: -0.19; 95% CI: -0.27, -0.10, P < 0.0001; I2 = 51%, Pfor heterogeneity = 0.06). A sensitivity analysis revealed a high stability of the result and the trim-and-fill adjustment for publication bias did not affect pooled estimate. CONCLUSIONS Both hypovitaminosis D and androgen deficiency should be regarded as markers of a poor health status, sharing common underlying aetiologies and risk factors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Numerous factors such as endothelial disease and hormonal disorder cause the development of erectile dysfunction (ED). However, the relationship between vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and ED is unclear. Moreover, the benefit of vitamin D replacement on ED patients with VDD is uncertain. As far as we know, there is no study yet in the literature regarding the addition of vitamin D to phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors in the treatment of ED patients with VDD. In this study, we investigated whether adding vitamin D to daily tadalafil treatment would be beneficial in ED patients with VDD. METHODS A total of 111 patients with VDD accompanying ED were retrospectively evaluated between January 2016 and December 2019. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the treatment they received. Group 1 (n = 58) was treated with daily oral tadalafil 5 mg, while group 2 (n = 53) received oral tadalafil 5 mg and 4,000 IU vitamin D3. Total International Index of Erectile Function-15 (IIEF-15) scores and vitamin D levels of the groups were compared at the end of the study. RESULTS The mean vitamin D level was increased statistically significant in group 2, but no difference was seen in group 1 (p < 0.001 and p > 0.05, respectively). There was a significant increase in median erectile function, orgasmic function, sexual desire, sexual satisfaction, and overall satisfaction scores in both groups (p < 0.001). However, the increase in median erectile function and sexual desire scores was significantly higher in group 2 compared to group 1 at the end of the study (p = 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION We found that adding vitamin D to 5 mg oral daily tadalafil treatment may have an additional positive effect on erectile function and sexual desire in ED patients with VDD.

Abstract
This study aims to collate all metabolic syndrome-related studies among adults in Qatar, shedding light on gaps in knowledge related to this topic to be addressed in future research studies. PubMed was used in searching for metabolic syndrome-related articles in Qatar, which was executed using relevant terms and was conducted with no restrictions. A second search was executed at a later stage to include any recent publications. A total of 20 articles were found to be relevant and related to the topic in hand. Three definitions of metabolic syndrome were used across the reviewed studies, which were classified based on medical specialties. The main findings and key components of each study were summarized. Studies were unevenly distributed across various medical specialties. This article serves to direct future research activities by identifying what aspects of the disease have been covered under current or past research projects and what more needs to be addressed comprehensively in view of clinical and public health significance.

Abstract
In this article, the gerontological factors affecting the successful aging of the elderly have been uncovered, the quality of life and successful aging issues have been related to gerontology and investigated on a different dimension. It has been emphasized that the importance of gerontechnology on the successful aging, creation of awareness through formal and non-formal education, qualitative and quantitative researches should be increased. Qualitative and quantitative researches on the subject were evaluated together, gerontology and gerontechnology were considered together with successful aging, and gerontology functions and ergonomics should be taken into consideration in increasing quality of life. In addition, the concept of geronsafety, a new concept in gerontology, has been put forward, emphasizing the effects of safety on gerontology and successful aging.

Abstract
Men ignore self-care, displaying low frequency in health services. Aging increases the prevalence of LUTS and BPE, impacting the quality of life. The objective is to understand how the advancement of age can be determinant for men's health in Natal, Brazil. Then, 503 men aged between 43 and 83 attended the Blue November Campaign of 2015. All subjects were submitted to anamnesis, clinical and laboratorial evaluation including measuring their blood pressure, waist circumference, glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, triglycerides and BMI was calculated. In addition, IPSS, PSA, IIEF-5 and DRE data were collected. The mean IPSS presented an increase with age, 43-59 years (6.28 ± 6.02) and 70-80 years or more (8.65 ± 5.80). PSA dosages increase with aging (adult group 1.63 ± 2.70), being more accentuated in the older group (4.66 ± 5.70), while the mean IIFE-5 showed a decrease with aging in 43-59 years (21.79 ± 4.67) and an important decrease at 70-80 years or more (16.24 ± 6.71). The number of DRE > 30 g showed significant growth in the older group. All presented statistical significance (p < .05) and were associated with aging. Abstract
Around 400 million people across the globe will suffer from asthma in the next 10 years. Although most asthmatics use asthma medications regularly, they occasionally visit the emergency department for aggressive treatment amidst family anxiousness. Vitamin D (VD) not only regulates the expression of genes associated with calcium homeostasis, but also the genes associated with cancers, autoimmune diseases, and infection. VD has also non-genomic activities e.g. it is a potentially safe and effective novel strategy for decreasing the asthma episodes and controlling exacerbations. Our review assessed the dose, serum level, duration of administration and outcomes of VD in cases of asthmas. Although a body of research evidences the effectiveness of VD supplementation in asthma, other studies showed the insignificant response of VD to asthma either with low dose or low achieved serum VD levels. Nevertheless, recent reviews suggest that manipulating VD status holds promise for primary prevention and treatment of asthma. Future research on the relationship between VD and asthma should consider utilizing adequate doses of VD preparations for sufficient duration (likely to be >12 months) aiming to achieve appropriate level of serum VD (25-hydroxyvitamin D) concentration (likely to be at least >40 ng/mL).

Abstract
Hypogonadism affects an extensive part of the male population, especially among the elderly. The quest for treatment regarding low levels of serum testosterone and male infertility has, therefore, worldwide relevance. Zinc has important biological actions insofar as the male reproductive physiology and endocrine system. In general, a common and safe recommendation for zinc in the treatment of male hypogonadism is 220 mg of zinc sulfate (equivalent to 50 mg of elemental zinc) twice a day, over one to four months. Additionally, it may be further required to extend, both the treatment, dose and daily fractionation of this mineral. Albeit medicinal doses of zinc may increase total testosterone and improve sperm count, the current body of evidence does not suggest broad recommendations regarding the use of zinc for all types of hypogonadism. In many cases, the use of zinc supplements is insufficient, with the use of surgery and drugs being required for an effective treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare serum uric acid levels in normal-weight peers and morbidly obese patients. Our second objective is to evaluate whether hyperuricemia is associated with metabolic syndrome components in morbidly obese patients. METHODS Fifty morbidly obese patients (40 males and 10 females) and 50 control groups (37 males and 13 females) were included in the study. Their baseline clinical characteristics and laboratory data were recorded and compared. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to examine the normality of variables. Data were compared using univariate tests including independent samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and chi-square test. RESULTS Compared to control group CRP, uric acid, urea, fasting plasma glucose, triglyceride, ALT, and AST were significantly higher in morbidly obese patients. HDL-cholesterol and GFR were significantly lower in morbidly obese patients. There were no significant differences in creatinine, LDL-cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels between two groups. CONCLUSION Laboratory parameters, especially serum uric acid levels, were found to be higher in morbidly obese patients compared to the control group.

Abstract
Testosterone is the predominant androgen in men and the lack of it can be a trigger to the development of the metabolic syndrome. Here we review the relationship between testosterone deficiency, metabolic syndrome, and hepatic steatosis reported by studies with men and rodents. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome and testosterone deficiency is higher among older subjects. Low total and free testosterone levels were positively associated with disturbs on energy metabolism, changes in body fat distribution, and body composition. Studies reported visceral fat accumulation in men with hypogonadism and castrated rats. Despite some contradictions, the association between higher adiposity, low testosterone, and metabolic syndrome was a common point among the studies. Few studies evaluated the hepatic steatosis and found an association with hypogonadism. Most of the studies with rodents combined the castration with a high-fat diet to study metabolic disturbs. The importance of proper levels of testosterone for energy metabolism homeostasis in men was also underlined by studies that investigated the metabolic effects of testosterone replacement therapy and androgen deprivation therapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlation of clinical measurements on normal and abnormal fasting blood glucose (FBG) with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHODS From September 2016 to January 2018, 771 BPH patients were enrolled for further selection. The eligible patients were divided into normal FBG, impaired fasting glucose (IFG), and high risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (HR-T2DM) groups. Then, relevant parameters were compared among these three groups using Pearson's correlation coefficient. RESULTS Finally including 443 patients with normal FBG, 113 with IFG and 56 with HR-T2DM. Height, weight, body mass index, smoking status, hemoglobin, serum Na+, serum Cl-, and serum Ca2+ were significantly different between normal and abnormal FBG groups. In IFG/HR-T2DM group, obviously connections were demonstrated for weight with prostate volume (PV), for serum Na+, PV, and serum Cl- with total prostate-specific antigen (t-PSA), for FBG with international prostate symptom score (IPSS). In normal FBG group, significant correlations of age, weight, body mass index, hemoglobin, and serum Ca2+ with PV, of age, systolic blood pressure, PV, and serum Cl- with t-PSA; and of FBG, hemoglobin, and serum Na+ with IPSS were also observed. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests that FBG level probably plays an important role in BPH.

Abstract
PURPOSE To understand the relationship between body mass index (BMI), age, prostate volume (PV), prostate-specific antigen (PSA), International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and quality of life (QoL) in Zhengzhou. MATERIALS AND METHODS In the cross-sectional study, men living in Zhengzhou were invited to participate in this study. Men who were 40 years or older were subjected to the IPSS and related examination. A total of 1360 participants were included. Body mass index < 18.5 kg/m2 was determined as underweight, 18.5-24.99 kg/m2 normal, 25-29.99 kg/m2 overweight, and ≥30 kg/m2 obese. RESULTS The mean BMI was 24.92 ± 3.37 kg/m2. The mean PSA was 1.06 ± 0.85 ng/mL. The mean PV was 20.10 ± 9.96 mL. The mean age was 62.72 ± 11.03 years. The mean IPSS was 5.87 ± 3.48 scores. The mean QoL was 2.33 ± 1.28 scores. PSA showed a significant tendency to decrease with increasing BMI (r = -0.061, p = 0.018, ptrend = 0.037). The same with age (r = -0.109, p < .001; ptrend = .045). But the result suggested that both IPSS and QoL were positively correlated with BMI (r = 0.120, p < .001, ptrend < .001; r = 0.083, p = .001, ptrend = .021, respectively). PV increased with increasing BMI (r = 0.110, p < .001, ptrend = 0.045 ). CONCLUSIONS Age, PSA decreased with increasing BMI. But larger PV, IPSS, and QoL were associated with higher BMI.

Abstract
This study investigated what sort of effects would occur in terms of sexual function in Japanese patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), upon switching from combination therapy with an α1 blocker (AB) and dutasteride (DUT) to combination therapy with tadalafil (TAD) and DUT. The baseline and the 15-item International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-15), Erection Hardness Score (EHS), International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), and Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS) 3 months after switching to the daily administration of TAD 5 mg/DUT 0.5 mg combination therapy, along with the age, prostatic volume, body mass index (BMI), and past medical history of 49 patients who were treated with AB/DUT as pretreatment, were retrospectively investigated. TAD/DUT combination therapy significantly improved the total score of IIEF-15 (from 17.8 ± 11.6 to 21.4 ± 13.9, p = .0047), erectile function domain (from 5.8 ± 5.8 to 7.6 ± 7.1, p = .0186), and EHS (from 1.9 ± 1.3 to 2.6 ± 1.2, p < .0001). Although IPSS and QOL index were significantly improved, no significant differences were observed for OABSS. Switching from AB/DUT combination therapy to TAD/DUT combination therapy brought about improvement in erectile function while leaving room to improve urinary status in Japanese patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM We examined the relationship among vit.D3, AMH, FT3, FT4, and TSH, in addition to the serum levels of reproductive hormones (FSH, LH, prolactin, and free testosterone), in oligoasthenoteratozoospermia and azoospermia patients in a cohort of infertile men from Egypt to establish a clinical marker/cause-effect relationship. METHODS This cross-sectional cohort study was carried out on 301 men (105 males with oligoasthenoteratozoospermia and 96 males with azoospermia), in addition to 100 controls. Measurements of serum vit.D3, AMH, FT3, FT4, and TSH levels, in addition to reproductive hormone assays, were performed on all included subjects, using ELISA kits. RESULTS Overall, results showed significantly lower serum levels of vit.D3 in infertile men than in the controls, with a greater decrease observed in men with azoospermia than in oligoasthenoteratozoospermia patients, (p < .05 for all). Significantly higher serum TSH and FSH levels and significantly lower serum free testosterone levels were observed in males with azoospermia than in males with oligoasthenoteratozoospermia and the controls (p < .05 for both). There were no significant differences between the studied groups in terms of AMH, FT3 or FT4 levels. LH levels were negatively correlated with TSH levels and positively correlated with AMH levels among men with oligoasthenoteratozoospermia, while among men with azoospermia, LH levels were positively correlated with vit.D3 levels (p < .05 for all). CONCLUSION Decreased Vit.D3 could play a role in male infertility, in addition to abnormal thyroid function, which needs further investigation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We performed this meta-analysis to assess serum testosterone changes in adult males with Type 2 diabetes (T2DM). METHODS PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched to identify qualified studies. Pooled weighted mean differences (WMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were utilized to test the changes of total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT) and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) in patients with T2DM. Besides, trial sequential analysis was used to verify the pooled results. RESULTS A total of 56 studies were enrolled in our meta-analysis. Meta-analyses of the cross-sectional studies showed that patients with T2DM has significant decreases in TT (WMD: -2.98, 95%CI: -3.48 to -2.47), FT (WMD: -32.82, 95%CI: -39.70 to -25.95) and SHBG (WMD: -2.47, 95%CI: -3.93 to -1.02). In terms of the prospective studies, our results showed decreases in TT (WMD: -2.35, 95%CI: -3.24 to -1.46), FT (WMD: -25.96, 95%CI: -83.98 to 32.05), and SHBG (WMD: -10.06, 95%CI: -13.29 to -6.84) in patients with T2DM. By trial sequential analyses, the findings in current meta-analysis were based on reliable evidence. CONCLUSION Our results indicate that patients with T2DM have lower serum TT, FT, and SHBG levels.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We performed this meta-analysis to assess the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHOD We conducted extensive searches on the PubMed, Science and Cochrane Library to identify all articles. Outcomes including annual prostate growth rate, prostate volume (PV), International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), IPSS sub-scores (voiding and storage), prostate- specific antigen (PSA), maximum urine flow rate (Qmax), post-void residual urine volume (PVR) and quality of life (QoL) were assessed. RESULTS 21 studies with 15,317 patients were included. Patients with MetS had higher annual prostate growth rate [weighted mean difference (WMD) = 0.79; p < .001], larger PV (WMD = 2.62; p < .001), lower Qmax (WMD = -0.48; p = .001) and more PVR (WMD = 8.28; p < .001). However, no significant differences were found between two groups in IPSS (WMD = 0.20; p = .37), IPSS-voiding (WMD = -0.05; p = .78), IPSS-storage (WMD = -0.22; p = .26), PSA (WMD = 0.04; p = .43), and QoL (WMD = -0.01; p = .70). CONCLUSIONS The study suggested that MetS may be one of the risk factors for the clinical progress of BPH. However, further study is warranted to support these results.

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the association between the severity of erectile dysfunction (ED) and serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D. It also sought to determine the cut-off level of serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D for ED. This study included 130 men who had ED between 2018 and 2019. Patients were divided into three groups according to their scores on the international index of erectile function-5 (IIEF-5) Turkish validated short form questionnaire. The serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D results were compared between the groups. The mean age of the patients was 49.28 ± 13.62 years. Groups 1, 2 and 3 included 44 (33.8%) patients with severe ED, 56 (43.1%) patients with moderate ED and 30 (23.1%) patients with mild ED, respectively. Statistical significance was observed between the groups and serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels. A positive correlation was detected between the IIEF-5 scores, serum testosterone and serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels. A cut-off level for serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D was calculated as 27.32 ng/ml. During multivariate analysis, we found that serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels were independent prognostic risk factors for decreased IIEF-5 scores. Decreased serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels were associated with decreased IIEF-5 scores. Therefore, vitamin D replacement therapy may improve symptoms.

Abstract
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between mean platelet volume (MPV) and vitamin D levels according to ED severity.Methods: Between October 2015 and September 2017, patients who applied to the andrology outpatient clinic with an ED complaint were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, malignancy, late-onset hypogonadism and smokers were not included in the study. The International Erectile Function Index-Erectile Function (IIEF-EF) questionnaire was used to assess the levels of erectile function. According to this scoring system, patients were divided into two groups. IIEF score: between 17 and 25 = mild ED (Group 1) and IIEF score between 16 and 0 = moderate-severe ED (Group 2). Blood samples of the patients were taken from antecubital vein and MPV and 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels were evaluated.Results: Ninety patients were included in the study (Group 1: n = 41, Group 2: n = 49). The mean age of the patients was 41.07 ± 8.56 and the mean body mass index (BMI) was 27.59 ± 3.91. 25(OH)D levels were found to be statistically lower in Group 2 (18.85 ± 6.09; 13.98 ± 7.10; p = .001). MPV levels were found to be statistically higher in Group 2 (10.05 ± 0.81; 10.78 ± 1.16; p = .001). Correlation between IIEF-EF scores and 25(OH)D levels was positive (p = .03, r = 0.22). There was negative correlation between IIEF-EF scores and MPV and between 25(OH)D levels and MPV levels [p = .003 for IIEF-EF/MPV, p = .04, r = -0.23 for 25(OH)D/MPV].Conclusion: There is a significant positive correlation between ED severity and 25(OH)D levels and there is a significant negative correlation between ED severity and MPV levels.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION As men age, progressive testosterone deficiency syndrome becomes an increasingly common problem. However, the decreased testosterone levels are not only the result of advanced age. AREAS COVERED PubMed search of published data on testosterone, nutritional deficiency, stress, sleep, and obesity. Many factors impact the male HPG axis (the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal), including body weight, calorific and nutritional value of a diet, the amount and quality of sleep, as well as the level of stress. In the case of persons of healthy weight, a below-average calorific value of a diet may decrease the levels of testosterone in men. On the other hand, the same caloric deficiency in obese persons may result in a neutral or positive impact on testosterone levels. EXPERT OPINION Many factors, including external, environmental and internal factors, influence testosterone levels. Undoubtedly, nutritional deficiency, and particularly of such nutrients as zinc, magnesium, vitamin D, together with low polyphenols intake, affects the HPG axis. The levels of mental and oxidative stress can also adversely impact the axis. Hence, a diagnosis of the cause of disturbance in testosterone levels depends on many factors and requires a broad range of research, as well as a change of patients' lifestyle.

Abstract
Erectile dysfunction is a multifactorial disease; it has been demonstrated that endothelial dysfunction plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of this disease, and Vitamin D deficiency is considered to favor endothelial lesions. Our study, based on a group of 58 patients who have erectile dysfunction and a control group of 26 healthy subjects, tends to confirm that low levels of vitamin D could potentiate the severity of erectile dysfunction, promoting endothelial dysfunction. Statistical analysis using the Pearson’s correlation criteria showed a robust and significant correlation between vitamin D levels and erectile dysfunction severity (ρ=0.752, p<0.000) according to the SHIM (Sexual Health Inventory For Men) questionnaire. Also, in patients with erectile dysfunction, there is a strong association between vitamin D and testosterone levels (ρ=0.728, p<0.000). At the same time, a negative correlation between vitamin D and BMI (ρ=-0.517, p<0.000); cholesterol (ρ=-0.560, p<0.001), and triglycerides(ρ=-0.529, p<0.005) was observed. Also, a moderate correlation between erectile dysfunction severity degree and testosterone levels (ρ=0.544) was also detected, and the same severity parameter of erectile dysfunction correlates negatively with cholesterol levels (ρ=-0.534). In its turn, the testosterone level correlates negatively with other biochemical indices: cholesterol (ρ=-0.694) and triglycerides (ρ=-0.670). Vitamin D level reduction, concomitantly with decreased testosterone and increased cholesterol, contributes to the development and maintenance of erectile dysfunction, more probably through endothelial mechanisms. The assessment of vitamin D values can be used as an independent marker in erectile dysfunction assessment. Thus, one of the diagnostic tests recommended for erectile dysfunction should be the determination of the vitamin D serum level.
