Abstract
OBJECTIVE To date, no data supports the execution of vaccination after hysterectomy for high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2+) and early-stage cervical cancer. We aim to evaluate the potential effect of vaccination after hysterectomy for high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and early-stage cervical cancer. METHODS This is a multi-center retrospective study evaluating data of women who develop lower genital tract dysplasia (including anal, vulvar and vaginal intra-epithelial neoplasia) after having hysterectomy for CIN2+ and FIGO stage IA1- IB1 cervical cancer. RESULTS Overall, charts for 77 patients who developed lower genital tract dysplasia were collected. The study population included 62 (80.5%) and 15 (19.5%) patients with CIN2+ and early-stage cervical cancer, respectively. The median (range) time between hysterectomy and diagnosis of develop lower genital tract dysplasia was 38 (range, 14-62) months. HPV types covered by the nonavalent HPV vaccination would potentially cover 94.8% of the development of lower genital tract dysplasia. Restricting the analysis to the 18 patients with available HPV data at the time of hysterectomy, the beneficial effect of nonvalent vaccination was 89%. However, considering that patients with persistent HPV types (with the same HPV types at the time of hysterectomy and who developed lower genital tract dysplasia) would not benefit from vaccination, we estimated the potential protective effect of vaccination to be 67% (12 out of 18 patients; four patients had a persistent infection for the same HPV type(s)). CONCLUSIONS Our retrospective analysis supported the adoption of HPV vaccination in patients having treatment for HPV-related disease. Even in the absence of the uterine cervix, HPV vaccination would protect against develop lower genital tract dysplasia. Further prospective studies have to confirm our preliminary research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although hysteroscopy with endometrial biopsy is the gold standard in the diagnosis of endometrial pathology, the gynecologist experience is crucial for a correct diagnosis. Deep learning (DL), as an artificial intelligence method, might help to overcome this limitation. Unfortunately, only preliminary findings are available, with the absence of studies evaluating the performance of DL models in identifying intrauterine lesions and the possible aid related to the inclusion of clinical factors in the model. AIM To develop a DL model as an automated tool for detecting and classifying endometrial pathologies from hysteroscopic images. METHODS A monocentric observational retrospective cohort study was performed by reviewing clinical records, electronic databases, and stored videos of hysteroscopies from consecutive patients with pathologically confirmed intrauterine lesions at our Center from January 2021 to May 2021. Retrieved hysteroscopic images were used to build a DL model for the classification and identification of intracavitary uterine lesions with or without the aid of clinical factors. Study outcomes were DL model diagnostic metrics in the classification and identification of intracavitary uterine lesions with and without the aid of clinical factors. RESULTS We reviewed 1500 images from 266 patients: 186 patients had benign focal lesions, 25 benign diffuse lesions, and 55 preneoplastic/neoplastic lesions. For both the classification and identification tasks, the best performance was achieved with the aid of clinical factors, with an overall precision of 80.11%, recall of 80.11%, specificity of 90.06%, F1 score of 80.11%, and accuracy of 86.74 for the classification task, and overall detection of 85.82%, precision of 93.12%, recall of 91.63%, and an F1 score of 92.37% for the identification task. CONCLUSION Our DL model achieved a low diagnostic performance in the detection and classification of intracavitary uterine lesions from hysteroscopic images. Although the best diagnostic performance was obtained with the aid of clinical data, such an improvement was slight.

Abstract
In this study, different multivariate classification methods were applied to hyperspectral images acquired, in the short-wave infrared range (SWIR: 1000-2500 nm), to define and evaluate quality control actions applied to construction and demolition waste (C&DW) flow streams, with particular reference to the detection of hazardous material as asbestos. Three asbestos fibers classes (i.e., amosite, chrysotile and crocidolite) inside asbestos-containing materials (ACM) were investigated. Samples were divided into two groups: calibration and validation datasets. The acquired hyperspectral images were first explored by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The following multivariate classification methods were selected in order to verify and compare their efficiency and robustness: Hierarchical Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (Hi-PLSDA), Principal Component Analysis k-Nearest Neighbors (PCA-kNN) and Error Correcting Output Coding with Support Vector Machines (ECOC-SVM). The classification results obtained for the three models were evaluated by prediction maps and the values of performance parameters (Sensitivity and Specificity). Micro-X-ray fluorescence (micro-XRF) maps confirmed the correctness of classification results. The results demonstrate how SWIR-HSI technology, coupled with multivariate analysis modelling, is a promising approach to develop both "off-line" and "online" fast, reliable and robust quality control strategies, finalized to perform a quick assessment of ACM presence.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women during the fertile period. Women with PCOS have an increased risk of developing major cardiovascular risk factors during the fertile period: obesity, impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and metabolic syndrome. The possible effect of PCOS on cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been reported in different studies, but the results are not clear for several reasons. Indeed, most of the studies analyzed a cohort of fertile women who, given their relatively young age, have a low frequency of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, longitudinal studies have a short follow-up period, insufficient to draw firm conclusions on this topic. Finally, pharmacological treatment is limited by the lack of specific drugs available to specifically treat PCOS. In this review, we report on studies that analyzed the possible effect of PCOS on the most common CVD (hypertension, arterial stiffness, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular event) and available drugs used to reduce CVD in PCOS women.

Abstract
Background The contribution of gut microbiota to the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is controversial. The causal relationship to this question is worth an in-depth comprehensive of known single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with gut microbiota. Methods We conducted bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) utilizing instrumental variables associated with gut microbiota (N = 18,340) from MiBioGen GWAS to assess their impact on PCOS risk in the FinnGen GWAS (27,943 PCOS cases and 162,936 controls). Two-sample MR using inverse variance weighting (IVW) was undertaken, followed by the weighted median, weighted mode, and MR-Egger regression. In a subsample, we replicated our findings using the meta-analysis PCOS consortium (10,074 cases and 103,164 controls) from European ancestry. Results IVWMR results suggested that six gut microbiota were causally associated with PCOS features. After adjusting BMI, SHBG, fasting insulin, testosterone, and alcohol intake frequency, the effect sizes were significantly reduced. Reverse MR analysis revealed that the effects of PCOS features on 13 gut microbiota no longer remained significant after sensitivity analysis and Bonferroni corrections. MR replication analysis was consistent and the results suggest that gut microbiota was likely not an independent cause of PCOS. Conclusion Our findings did not support the causal relationships between the gut microbiota and PCOS features at the genetic level. More comprehensive genome-wide association studies of the gut microbiota and PCOS are warranted to confirm their genetic relationship. Abstract
Hyperspectral imaging represents a powerful tool for the study of artwork's materials since it permits to obtain simultaneously information about the spectral behavior of the materials and their spatial distribution. By combining hyperspectral images performed on several spectral intervals (visible, near infrared and mid-infrared ranges) through chemometric methods it is possible to clearly identify most of the materials used in painting (i.e., pigments, dyes, varnishes, and binders). Moreover, in the last decade, the development of machine learning algorithms coupled with comprehensive and continuously updated databases opens new perspective on the automatic recognition of pictorial materials. In this work, we propose a novel procedure to support the automatic discrimination of pictorial materials consisting in a mid-level data fusion on imaging datasets coming from two commercial hyperspectral cameras, in the 400-1000 nm and 1000-2500 nm spectral ranges, respectively, and a MAcroscopic Fourier Transform InfRared scanning in reflection mode (MA-rFTIR), in the 7000 to 350 cm-1 (1428 nm - 28 μm) spectral range. The automatic recognition of 102 pictorial mock-ups from the fused data is performed by testing the performance of ECOC-SVM (error-correcting output coding and support vector machine) model obtaining a good predictive result with only few pixels that are confused with other classes. The methodology described in this paper demonstrates that an accurate paint layer multiclass recognition is feasible, and the use of chemometric approaches solves some challenges involving the study of materials.

Abstract
Amniotic fluid is essential for fetus wellbeing and is used to monitor pregnancy and predict fetal outcomes. Sex affects health and medicine from the beginning of life, but knowledge of its influence on cell-depleted amniotic fluid (AF) and amniotic fluid cells (AFCs) is still neglected. We evaluated sex-related differences in AF and in AFCs to extend personalized medicine to prenatal life. AFCs and AF were obtained from healthy Caucasian pregnant women who underwent amniocentesis at the 16th-18th week of gestation for advanced maternal age. In the AF, inflammation biomarkers (TNFα, IL6, IL8, and IL4), malondialdehyde, nitrites, amino acids, and acylcarnitines were measured. Estrogen receptors and cell fate (autophagy, apoptosis, senescence) were measured in AFCs. TNFα, IL8, and IL4 were higher in female AF, whereas IL6, nitrites, and MDA were similar. Valine was higher in male AF, whereas several acylcarnitines were sexually different, suggesting a mitochondrial involvement in establishing sex differences. Female AFCs displayed higher expression of ERα protein and a higher ERα/ERβ ratio. The ratio of LC3II/I, an index of autophagy, was higher in female AFCs, while LC3 gene was similar in both sexes. No significant sex differences were found in the expression of the lysosomal protein LAMP1, while p62 was higher in male AFCs. LAMP1 gene was upregulated in male AFCs, while p62 gene was upregulated in female ones. Finally, caspase 9 activity and senescence linked to telomeres were higher in female AFCs, while caspase 3 and β-galactosidase activities were similar. This study supports the idea that sex differences start very early in prenatal life and influence specific parameters, suggesting that it may be relevant to appreciate sex differences to cover knowledge gaps. This might lead to improving the diagnosis of risk prediction for pregnancy complications and achieving a more satisfactory monitoring of fetus health, even preventing future diseases in adulthood.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) display many sex and gender differences, and endothelial dysfunction, angiotensin II (Ang II), and autophagy represent key factors in the autophagic process Therefore, we studied whether Ang II modulates the mentioned processes in a sex-specific way in HUVECs obtained from healthy male and female newborns. In basal HUVECs, the Parkin gene and protein were higher in FHUVECs than in MHUVECs, while the Beclin-1 protein was more expressed in MHUVECs, and no other significant differences were detected. Ang II significantly increases LAMP-1 and p62 protein expression and decreases the expression of Parkin protein in comparison to basal in MHUVECs. In FHUVECs, Ang II significantly increases the expression of Beclin-1 gene and protein, and Parkin gene. The LC3 II/I ratio and LAMP-1 protein were significantly higher in MHUVECs than in FHUVECs, while Parkin protein was significantly more expressed in Ang II-treated FHUVECs than in male cells. Ang II affects the single miRNA levels: miR-126-3p and miR-133a-3p are downregulated and upregulated in MHUVECs and FHUVECs, respectively. MiR-223 is downregulated in MHUVEC and FHUVECs. Finally, miR-29b-3p and miR-133b are not affected by Ang II. Ang II effects and the relationship between miRNAs and organelles-specific autophagy is sex-dependent in HUVECs. This could lead to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying sex differences in endothelial dysfunction, providing useful indications for innovative biomarkers and personalized therapeutic approaches.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of stress on Graves' disease (GD) is controversial. Our purpose was to quantify the impacts of stress on patients with Graves' disease. METHODS Systematic searches of PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library and PsycInfo were conducted from inception to 1 January 2023. Studies comparing the incidence of stressful life events (SLEs) that occurred before diagnosis and during drug therapy in cases diagnosed with GD and controls were included in the final analysis. RESULTS Nine case-control studies and four cohort studies enrolling 2892 participants (1685 [58%] patients) were included. Meta-analysis revealed a high and significant effect-size index in a random effect model (d = 1.81, P = 0.01), indicating that stress is an important factor in the onset of GD. The relationship between SLEs and GD was stronger in studies with higher proportions of female patients (β = 0.22, P < 0.01) and weaker in studies with older patients with GD (β =-0.62, P < 0.01). However, stress did not significantly affect the outcome of antithyroid drug therapy for GD (d = 0.32, P = 0.09). CONCLUSIONS The results of this meta-analysis suggest that stress is one of the environmental triggers for the onset of GD. Therefore, we recommend stress management assistance for individuals genetically susceptible to GD, especially for young females.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) in the first trimester occurring after ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a rare condition and few cases are reported in the literature. Hyperestrogenism may explain this problem in genetically predisposed women. The objective of this article is to report one of these rare cases and offer an overview of the other published cases. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of severe OHSS followed by ICP in the first trimester. The patient was admitted to the intensive care unit and was treated according to the guidelines for the management of OHSS. Moreover, the patient also received ursodeoxycholic acid for ICP, which brought to an improvement of her clinical conditions. The pregnancy continued without other complications until the 36th week of gestation, when the patient developed ICP in the third trimester and underwent cesarean section for increased bile acid levels and cardiotocographic (CTG) pathologic alterations. The newborn was a healthy baby weighing 2500 gr. We also reviewed other case reports published by other authors about this clinical condition. We present what is, to our knowledge, the first case of ICP developed in the first trimester of pregnancy after OHSS in which genetic polymorphisms of ABCB4 (MDR3) have been investigated. CONCLUSIONS ICP in the first trimester might be induced by elevated serum estrogen levels after OHSS in genetically predisposed women. In these women, it might be useful to check for genetic polymorphisms to know if they have a predisposition for ICP recurrence in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Accumulating evidence suggested the detrimental effects of adopting minimally invasive surgery in the management of early-stage cervical cancer. However, long-term evidence on the role of minimally invasive radical hysterectomy in "low-risk" patients exists. METHODS This is multi-institutional retrospective study comparing minimally invasive and open radical hysterectomy in low-risk early-stage cervical cancer patients. A propensity-score matching algorithm (1:2) was used to allocate patients into the study groups. Kaplan-Meir model was used to estimate 10-year progression-free and overall survival. RESULTS Charts of 224 "low-risk" patients were retrieved. Overall, 50 patients undergoing radical hysterectomy were matched with 100 patients undergoing open radical hysterectomy. Minimally invasive radical hysterectomy was associated with a longer median operative time (224 (range, 100-310) vs. 184 (range, 150-240) minutes; p < 0.001), lower estimated blood loss (10 (10-100) vs. 200 (100-1000) ml, p < 0.001), and shorter length of hospital stay (3.8 (3-6) vs. 5.1 (4-12); p < 0.001). Surgical approach did not influence the risk of having intra-operative (4% vs. 1%; p = 0.257) and 90-day severe (grade 3+) postoperative complication rates (4% vs. 8%; p = 0.497). Ten-year disease-free survival was similar between groups (94% vs. 95%; p = 0.812; HR:1.195; 95%CI:0.275, 5.18). Ten-year overall survival was similar between groups (98% vs. 96%; p = 0.995; HR:0.994; 95%CI:0.182, 5.424). CONCLUSIONS Our study appears to support emerging evidence suggesting that, for low-risk patients, laparoscopic radical hysterectomy does not result in worse 10-year outcomes compared to the open approach. However, further research is needed and open abdominal radical hysterectomy remains the standard treatment for cervical cancer patients.

Abstract
Mesenchymal stem cells are undifferentiated cells able to acquire different phenotypes under specific stimuli. Wharton's jelly is a tissue in the umbilical cord that contains mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) with a high plasticity and differentiation potential. Their regeneration capability is compromised by cell damage and aging. The main cause of cell damage is oxidative stress coming from an imbalance between oxidant and antioxidant species. Microgravity represents a stressing condition able to induce ROS production, ultimately leading to different subcellular compartment damages. Here, we analyzed molecular programs of stemness (Oct-4; SOX2; Nanog), cell senescence, p19, p21 (WAF1/CIP1), p53, and stress response in WJ-MSCs exposed to microgravity. From our results, we can infer that a simulated microgravity environment is able to influence WJ-MSC behavior by modulating the expression of stress and stemness-related genes, cell proliferation regulators, and both proapoptotic and antiapoptotic genes. Our results suggest a cellular adaptation addressed to survival occurring during the first hours of simulated microgravity, followed by a loss of stemness and proliferation capability, probably related to the appearance of a molecular program of senescence.

Abstract
The objective of this work is to assess the 5-year outcomes of patients undergoing conization for high-grade cervical lesions that simultaneously present as risk factors in the persistence of HPV infection and the positivity of surgical resection margins. This is a retrospective study evaluating patients undergoing conization for high-grade cervical lesions. All patients included had both positive surgical margins and experienced HPV persistence at 6 months. Associations were evaluated with Cox proportional hazard regression and summarized using hazard ratio (HR). The charts of 2966 patients undergoing conization were reviewed. Among the whole population, 163 (5.5%) patients met the inclusion criteria, being at high risk due to the presence of positive surgical margins and experiencing HPV persistence. Of 163 patients included, 17 (10.4%) patients developed a CIN2+ recurrence during the 5-year follow-up. Via univariate analyses, diagnosis of CIN3 instead of CIN2 (HR: 4.88 (95%CI: 1.10, 12.41); p = 0.035) and positive endocervical instead of ectocervical margins (HR: 6.44 (95%CI: 2.80, 9.65); p < 0.001) were associated with increased risk of persistence/recurrence. Via multivariate analyses, only positive endocervical instead of ectocervical margins (HR: 4.56 (95%CI: 1.23, 7.95); p = 0.021) were associated with worse outcomes. In this high-risk group, positive endocervical margins is the main risk factor predicting 5-year recurrence.

Abstract
Membranous dysmenorrhoea is an uncommon condition characterized by the spontaneous flaking of endometrium into a single piece that maintains the shape of the uterus. The common symptom of membranous dysmenorrhoea is a colicky pain caused by uterine contractions. Because only a limited number of cases have been published in the literature, the case report we present is peculiar. This report describes a case of membranous dysmenorrhoea that occurred after an artificial frozen thawed embryo transfer cycle using vaginal progesterone. The patient, during hormone replacement treatment, reported an intense abdominal colicky pain resulting in the loss of membranous endometrial tissue. A histopathological exam was performed with a clear diagnosis of membranous dysmenorrhoea. Moreover, photos were recorded and provided together with this article. The importance of such a case report relies on the actual debate about the appropriate progesterone route of administration. Although different medical approaches exist, progesterone administration is the most widespread. However, the intramuscular, oral, and subcutaneous means of administration are gaining popularity. On this peculiar case report, the patient underwent a subsequent frozen thawed embryo transfer cycle with subcutaneous progesterone administration. The embryo transfer resulted first in a clinical pregnancy and subsequently in a spontaneous delivery without any complications.

Abstract
Background: Restrictive measures imposed to prevent COVID-19 contagion have caused an increase in waiting times for other health procedures. During the pandemic, utilization of telemedicine has increased to ensure patient care safely. The aim of this study was to evaluate the perspective of infertile patients who underwent virtual consultations for infertility. Materials and Methods: This was an observational study. A survey was submitted to patients who attended a virtual consultation at a single in vitro fertilization (IVF) unit between March 2020 and July 2021. The survey concerned their experience with telemedicine assessing the experience of video consulting and the software characteristics. Results: The survey response rate was 50.3% (n = 159). In total, 98.8% of patients positively rated the experience of telemedicine. Regarding the software itself, it was defined as intuitive and easy to use by 87.4% of patients. A majority (92.5%) of interviewed patients reported that they were able to receive the information and clear any doubts they had and 85.5% of interviewed patients would repeat the experience of video consultation. Conclusions: The acceptance of telemedicine was very high among infertile patients. However, IVF treatments have a strong emotional component and face-to-face consultation with medical staff might help to create the right climate of trust, and the empathy that can be demonstrated during a vis-à-vis meeting cannot be achieved through a screen. The use of telemedicine should be considered in those situations where it is not possible to attend an in-person consultation or when couples prefer it.

Abstract
Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) represent an ideal stem cell population for regenerative medicine. ADSC adipogenic differentiation is controlled by the activation of a specific transcriptional program, including epigenetic factors and key adipogenic genes. Under certain conditioned media, ADSCs can differentiate into several phenotypes. We previously demonstrated that bioactive molecules could counteract lipid accumulation and regulate adipogenesis, acting on inflammation and vitamin D metabolism. In the present paper, we aimed at evaluating the effect of metformin and vitamin D in targeting ADSC differentiation towards an intermediate phenotype, as beige adipocytes. We exposed ADSCs to different conditioned media and then we evaluated the levels of expression of main markers of adipogenesis, aP2, LPL and ACOT2. We also analysed the gene and protein expression of thermogenic UCP1 protein, and the expression of PARP1 and the beige specific marker TMEM26. Our results showed a novel effect of metformin and vitamin D not only in inhibiting adipogenesis, but also in inducing a specific ‘brown-like’ phenotype. These findings pave the way for their possible application in the control of de novo lipogenesis useful for the prevention of obesity and its related metabolic disorders.

Prevalence of HPV Infection and p16 INK4a Overexpression in Surgically Treated Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Vaccines (Basel) 2022; 10:204. Abstract
Background: The mucosal high-risk (HR) human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with oropharyngeal carcinogenesis. Aims of this study were to evaluate the prevalence of HR-HPV infection in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) from different subsites, and the clinico-biological meaning of p16 overexpression. Methods: Ninety-seven LSCCs submitted to primary surgery (n = 75) or to post-irradiation salvage laryngectomy (n = 22) were evaluated for HR-HPV DNA and RNA using Luminex-based assays. p16 immunohistochemistry was performed. Results: HR-HPV DNA from HPV16 was detected in seven cases (8.75%), without significant differences between supraglottic and glottic lesions. HPV RNA was never detected. p16 overexpression correlated with HR-HPV DNA, but the kappa agreement score was poor. HPV DNA showed no impact on prognosis. p16 overexpression was associated with a better survival (OS, RFS) in primarily operated cases, while an inverse association with OS was observed in the salvage surgery group. Conclusions: HR-HPV infection appears to have a marginal role in LSCC independent of the anatomical subsite. p16 expression is deregulated in LSCC independent of HPV but displays a prognostic role in patients submitted to primary surgery. The negative predictive role of p16 overexpression in patients undergoing salvage surgery deserves more investigations for validation and elucidation of its clinical relevance.

Abstract
GnRH agonists (GnRHa) are a useful tool for pretreatment before artificial endometrial preparation for frozen-thawed embryo-transfer (FET). Their prolonged administration has been associated with thyroid dysfunction, both hyper and hypothyroidism. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of GnRHa administration on thyroid function in women undergoing artificial endometrial preparation. Seventy-eight euthyroid women undergoing endometrial preparation with hormone replacement for FET were retrospectively reviewed. They were divided into two groups according to pretreatment with GnRHa (group A, 42 women) or with an oral contraceptive (group B, 36 women). Group A was subsequently divided into two subgroups according to thyroid autoimmunity presence. Thyroid function has been evaluated and compared among groups and subgroups. Our results did not show any statistically significant differences in age, body mass index, and basal thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Total estradiol dosage, duration of treatment, and endometrial thickness were comparable among groups. When TSH was measured 14 days after embryo transfer, no significant differences between the two groups were reported. Among women of group A, TSH was significantly higher only in women with thyroid autoimmunity. GnRHa seems to be associated with thyroid dysfunction in women with thyroid autoimmunity undergoing hormone replacement therapy for FET.

Abstract
Objective Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has correlated with the disruption of screening activities and diagnostic assessments. Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common gynecological malignancies and it is often detected at an early stage, because it frequently produces symptoms. Here, we aim to investigate the impact of COVID-19 outbreak on patterns of presentation and treatment of EC patients. Methods This is a retrospective study involving 54 centers in Italy. We evaluated patterns of presentation and treatment of EC patients before (period 1: March 1, 2019 to February 29, 2020) and during (period 2: April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021) the COVID-19 outbreak. Results Medical records of 5,164 EC patients have been retrieved: 2,718 and 2,446 women treated in period 1 and period 2, respectively. Surgery was the mainstay of treatment in both periods (p=0.356). Nodal assessment was omitted in 689 (27.3%) and 484 (21.2%) patients treated in period 1 and 2, respectively (p<0.001). While, the prevalence of patients undergoing sentinel node mapping (with or without backup lymphadenectomy) has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic (46.7% in period 1 vs. 52.8% in period 2; p<0.001). Overall, 1,280 (50.4%) and 1,021 (44.7%) patients had no adjuvant therapy in period 1 and 2, respectively (p<0.001). Adjuvant therapy use has increased during COVID-19 pandemic (p<0.001). Conclusion Our data suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the characteristics and patterns of care of EC patients. These findings highlight the need to implement healthcare services during the pandemic. The prevalence of patients with early-stage endometrial cancer (EC) has been lower during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic than before its onset. Further evidence is needed to assess the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on survival outcomes of EC patients.

Abstract
Introduction to assess incidence, prognosis and obstetric outcome of patients treated for gestational trophoblastic disease GTD in a twenty-year period. Incidence, prognosis and obstetric outcome of gestational throphoblastic disease Methods retrospective study. Results Fifty-four cases of GTD: 46 (85.18%) cases of Hydatidiform mole (HM); 8 cases of Persistent Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) (14.81%): 6/8 cases (75%) GTN not metastatic; 2/8 cases (25%) GTN metastatic. In both cases, the metastases occurred in the lungs. In 3 out of 8 GTN cases (37.5%) a histological picture of choriocarcinoma emerged. The incidence of GTD cases treated from 2000 to 2020 was 1.8 cases per 1000 deliveries and 1.3 cases per 1000 pregnancies. Of the 54 patients, 30 (55.56%) presented showed normal serum hCG levels without the need for chemotherapy. On the other hand, 24 patients (44.44%) developed a persistent trophoblastic disease and underwent adjuvant therapy. The negative prognostic factors that affected the risk of persistence of GTD were: serum hCG levels at diagnosis > 100,000 mUI/ml; characteristic “snow storm” finding at the ultrasound diagnosis; a slow regression of serum hCG levels during follow-up; the persistence of high serum hCG levels (especially if > 1000 mUI/ml one month after suction curettage) that was the main risk factor for resistance to first-line chemotherapy. There were 10 pregnancies in total following treatment. Patients’ survival in our study was 100%. Discussion Although GTD is a rare disease, its incidence was 1.3 cases per 1,000 pregnancies in Sardinia, Italy, higher if compared with mean national and worldwide incidence.

Abstract
This study evaluated the phytoextraction capacity of the fern Pteris vittata grown on a natural arsenic-rich soil of volcanic-origin from the Viterbo area in central Italy. This calcareous soil is characterized by an average arsenic concentration of 750 mg kg−1, of which 28% is bioavailable. By means of micro-energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (μ-XRF) we detected As in P. vittata fronds after just 10 days of growth, while a high As concentrations in fronds (5,000 mg kg−1), determined by Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), was reached after 5.5 months. Sixteen arsenate-tolerant bacterial strains were isolated from the P. vittata rhizosphere, a majority of which belong to the Bacillus genus, and of this majority only two have been previously associated with As. Six bacterial isolates were highly As-resistant (> 100 mM) two of which, homologous to Paenarthrobacter ureafaciens and Beijerinckia fluminensis, produced a high amount of IAA and siderophores and have never been isolated from P. vittata roots. Furthermore, five isolates contained the arsenate reductase gene (arsC). We conclude that P. vittata can efficiently phytoextract As when grown on this natural As-rich soil and a consortium of bacteria, largely different from that usually found in As-polluted soils, has been found in P. vittata rhizosphere.

Abstract
Vulvovaginal pathology impairs the quality of life of both women in menopause and those who are not. Different therapies have been proposed, mainly related to estrogen therapy in postmenopausal women. However, some contraindications limit its use, and different moisturizers or lubricants have been tested. Hyaluronic acid is a promising and widely used vaginal medical treatment with a moisturizing action and appears to provide a solution. For this reason, we performed a systematic review of the literature. We searched for original articles without date restriction until 30 April 2020. We included all clinical trials which administered local hyaluronic acid in the vulva or vagina. Only English studies and those performed in humans were eligible. Seventeen original studies were included in the review (from randomized controlled trials to longitudinal studies). Hyaluronic acid was generally found to be effective in improving vulvovaginal symptoms (dyspareunia, itching, burning, dryness) and signs (bleeding, atrophy, vaginal pH). In conclusion, hyaluronic acid has the properties to be an efficient moisturizer for women suffering from vulvovaginal atrophy who have contraindications for estrogen therapy and for vulvovaginal signs and symptoms affecting sexual well-being. However, a well-designed randomized controlled trial is needed in order to clarify its efficacy and safety profile.

Abstract
In the last decade, a growing attention has been focused on identifying effective therapeutic strategies also in the orphan clinical setting of women with platinum-resistant disease. In this context, secondary cytoreductive surgery (SCS) remains a potential approach only in women with platinum sensitive relapse, but experimental data have been published supporting the role of SCS also in patients with platinum-resistant recurrence. In particular, surgery is emerging as a potential option in specific subgroups of women, such as those patients with low-grade serous histology, or low-volume relapse with disease located in the so-called pharmacological sanctuaries. Furthermore, contrasting evidences have suggested a potential role in this clinical setting of SCS combined with intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy. In this complex scenario we review here the available evidences regarding the role surgery in ovarian cancer patients with platinum resistant disease, trying also to understand which patients may benefit from this challenging, experimental approach.

Abstract
PURPOSE Paracetamol is the only drug recommended to treat fever in neonates. At recommended doses, paracetamol has not been associated with liver injury in neonates, while hepatotoxicity may occur after intake of a single high dose or multiple excessive doses. The aim of this narrative review is to critically analyze and summarize the available literature on newborns and infants exposed to supratherapeutic doses of paracetamol, with special focus on their clinical features, outcome, and management. METHODS The PubMed, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar search engines were used to collect data, without time limitation. The following keywords were used: paracetamol/acetaminophen, overdose, hepatotoxicity, N-acetylcysteine, newborn, infant. RESULTS The literature search identified a total of 27 case reports, a number of review articles, and few other relevant publications. Neonatal poisoning from paracetamol resulted from transplacental drug transfer after maternal overdose in some published cases, while it was the consequence of medication errors in other cases. Newborns and infants who have received a single overdose and have paracetamol concentrations below the Rumack-Matthew nomogram limits are at low risk of serious hepatic damage, while those who have recently ingested more than one supratherapeutic dose of paracetamol should be managed with caution. The treatment of choice for paracetamol poisoning is N-acetylcysteine, a specific antidote which reduces paracetamol hepatotoxic effects. N-Acetylcysteine should be given according to specific regimens through weight-based dosing tables. CONCLUSIONS Caution should be used when paracetamol is administered to the newborn. In the event of an overdose, careful patient monitoring and personalization of post-overdose procedures are recommended.

Abstract
The aim of this case-control study was to evaluate maternal-fetal and neonatal clinical outcomes in a group of patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and pregestational diabetes such as diabetes mellitus type 1 (DM1) and diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) and compare them with those of patients without diabetes. A total of 414 pregnant women, nulliparous and multiparous, with single pregnancy were recruited. The selected patients were divided into two groups. Among 207 patients (group cases), 183 had GDM and 24 pregestational diabetes (of which n = 17 diagnosed with DM1 and n = 7 with diagnosis of DM2). Two-hundred-seven patients with a negative pathologic history of GDM, DM1 and DM2 represented the population of controls (group control). We reported an incidence of preterm delivery of 23.2% in the group of cases, of 18.3% in the group of patients with GDM and 66.7% in the group of patients DM1/2. Fetal growth disorders, such as intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), small for gestational age (SGA), fetal macrosomia, were detected in four fetuses out of 207 (1.93%) in the control group and 20 fetuses out of 207 in the case group (9.67%, p-value 0.001); of these 16 of 183 fetuses of the GDM group (8.74%, p-value 0.002) and 4 of 24 fetuses of the DM1/2 group (16.67%, p-value 0.005). A very strong correlation between diabetes mellitus type 1 and preeclampsia (p-value < 0.0001) was observed. Close monitoring of pregnant women with diabetes is recommended to prevent maternal-fetal and neonatal complications.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the impact of the COVID‐19 lockdown on admissions to gynecological emergency departments (ED) of three Italian university hospitals with different rates of COVID‐19 incidence. Methods A retrospective study was conducted in the gynecological EDs of Modena (Emilia‐Romagna), Sassari and Cagliari (Sardinia) regarding all admissions to gynecological EDs during November 1 to 30, 2019, and March 11 to April 9, 2020 (lockdown period). Results A total of 691 women (mean age 38.3 ± 14.3 years) who were admitted to the gynecological EDs were included. The relative decrease in women evaluated from March 11 to April 9, 2020, was −56.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 52.2–61.1). Time spent in the ED was also significantly shorter during this period (P=0.02) in comparison to November 1 to 30, 2019. The most evident decrease was observed for pelvic pain (−68.9% [95% CI 60.3–76.7]; −91 cases). The management of women suggests a more effective use of the ED, with higher rates of hospitalization (P=0.001) and recourse to emergent surgeries (P=0.005) and lower rates of discharge to home (P=0.03). Conclusion The COVID‐19 lockdown greatly reduced the rate of admission to gynecological EDs, but the real emergencies were filtered from the more deferrable ones. The COVID‐19 lockdown greatly reduced the admission rate to gynecological emergency departments, particularly for pelvic pain; however, real emergencies were filtered from more deferrable cases.

Abstract
Objective Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a novel infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Several reports highlighted the risk of infection and disease in pregnant women and neonates. To assess the risk of clinical complications in pregnant women and neonates infected with SARS-CoV-2 carrying out a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies. Data sources Search of the scientific evidence was performed using the engines PubMed and Scopus, including articles published from December 2019 to 15 April 2020. Study eligibility criteria Only observational studies focused on the assessment of clinical outcomes associated with pregnancy in COVID-19 women were selected. Study appraisal and synthesis methods The first screening was based on the assessment of titles and abstracts, followed by the evaluation of full-texts. Qualitative variables were summarized with frequencies, whereas quantitative variables with central and variability indicators depending on their parametric distribution. Forest plots were used to describe point estimates and in-between studies variability. Study quality assessment was performed. Results Thirteen studies were selected. All of them were carried out in China. The mean (SD) age and gestational age of pregnant women were 30.3 (1.5) years and 35.9 (2.9) weeks, respectively. The mean (SD) duration from the first symptoms to the hospital admission and to labour were 5.5 (2.0) and 9.5 (8.7) days, respectively. Patients mainly complained of fever and cough (pooled (95 % CI) proportions were 76.0 % (57.0 %–90.0 %) and 38.0 (28.0 %–47.0 %), respectively). Several antibiotics, antivirals, and corticosteroids were prescribed in different combinations. The pooled prevalence of maternal complications and of caesarean section were 45.0 % (95 % CI: 24.0 %–67.0 %) and 88.0 % (95 %CI: 82.0 %–94.0 %). A proportion of pregnant women less than 20 % were admitted to ICU. The pooled proportion of preterm infants was 23.0 % (95 %CI: 11.0 %–39.0 %). The most frequent neonatal complications were pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome. The pooled percentage of infected neonates was 6.0 % (95 %CI: 2.0 %–12.0 %). Conclusions The present study suggests a high rate of maternal and neonatal complications in infected individuals. However, the current scientific evidence highlights a low risk of neonatal infection. Multicentre, cohort studies are needed to better elucidate the role of SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy.

Abstract
Aim of this report is to alert clinicians about the potential significant sequelae of administering depot gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) shortly after oocytes cryopreservation. In our case report, a 28-year-old nulligravid Caucasian woman diagnosed with breast cancer underwent controlled ovarian stimulation-oocyte cryopreservation before chemotherapy. The oocyte retrieval was performed without complications and the woman was discharged after five hours. Three days later, the patient self-injected depot-GnRHa as chemoprotective agent, as indicated by the oncologist. The next day, the patient referred to the emergency room and she was diagnosed with ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and required inpatient care. As a consequence, the start of the chemotherapy was delayed by two weeks. In conclusion, chemoprotection with depot-GnRHa after oocyte/embryo cryopreservation is not exempt from risks. The timing for depot-GnRHa administration should be established by the agreement between oncologist and gynecologist in order to avoid the risk of OHSS.

Abstract
PURPOSE Female reproductive events, including ovulation, menstruation, implantation, and delivery, are physiologically characterized by deep tissue remodeling and display hallmark signs of inflammation. This review discusses the pleiotropic roles played by bikunin in human reproduction. METHODS A comprehensive literature search of the Medline/PubMed database was performed on the following topics: bikunin structure, roles in pathophysiological conditions and involvement in human reproduction, and usefulness as a marker of gestational complications or as a drug to improve pregnancy outcomes. RESULTS Bikunin is a small chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan found in blood, urine, and amniotic and cerebrospinal fluids, known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-proteolytic activities. Its levels are usually low, but they can increase several-fold in both acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. Bikunin plays key roles in reproductive events, such as cumulus-oocyte complex formation, pregnancy, and delivery. Its levels have been associated with the most common pregnancy complications such as preterm delivery, pre-eclampsia, and gestational diabetes mellitus. Finally, its intravaginal administration has been reported to reduce the risk of preterm delivery and to improve neonatal outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Because of its pleiotropic roles in several reproductive events and its association with some life-threatening pathological conditions of pregnancy, bikunin may represent a non-invasive marker for improving follow-up and early diagnosis. Studies showing its usefulness as a drug for reducing the risk of preterm delivery and improving neonatal outcomes have yielded interesting results that deserve to be investigated through further research.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the role of a human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine after loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in reducing recurrent cervical dysplasia. A series of 503 women with cervical dysplasia received LEEP between January 2012 and October 2018. Of these patients, 379 were treated between January 2012 and June 2017, thus ensuring an adequate follow-up time. We made three attempts to establish telephone contact with each patient; 77 women did not respond and were excluded from the final study population, which consisted of 302 patients. One hundred eighty-two (60.7%) women were vaccinated with an HPV vaccine within 4 weeks of LEEP and 103 (34.3%) were followed up with but not vaccinated. Recurrence of cervical dysplasia requiring a further LEEP procedure occurred in 30 (10.5%) women, of whom 17 (16.5%) were not vaccinated and 13 (7.1%) were vaccinated (p-value = 0.010). At univariate analysis, HPV vaccination after LEEP (odds ratio (OR) = 0.4, p-value = 0.020) emerged as an independent protective factor. Choosing as an outcome of the analysis only recurrence as severe cervical lesions, the protective role of HPV vaccination after LEEP was found to be much more relevant with an odds ratio of 0.2 (95% CI = 0.1–0.6, p-value = 0.02). Administration of an HPV vaccine after LEEP seems to reduce the risk of recurrence, thus suggesting that HPV vaccination has a role as an adjuvant treatment after LEEP.

Abstract
MiRNAs, a small family of non-coding RNA, are now emerging as regulators of stem cell pluripotency, differentiation, and autophagy, thus controlling stem cell behavior. Stem cells are undifferentiated elements capable to acquire specific phenotype under different kind of stimuli, being a main tool for regenerative medicine. Within this context, we have previously shown that stem cells isolated from Wharton jelly multipotent stem cells (WJ-MSCs) exhibit gender differences in the expression of the stemness related gene OCT4 and the epigenetic modulator gene DNA-Methyltransferase (DNMT1). Here, we further analyze this gender difference, evaluating adipogenic and osteogenic differentiation potential, autophagic process, and expression of miR-145, miR-148a, and miR-185 in WJ-MSCs derived from males and females. These miRNAs were selected since they are involved in OCT4 and DNMT1 gene expression, and in stem cell differentiation. Our results indicate a difference in the regulatory circuit involving miR-148a/DNMT1/OCT4 autophagy in male WJ-MSCs as compared to female cells. Moreover, no difference was detected in the expression of the two-differentiation regulating miRNA (miR-145 and miR-185). Taken together, our results highlight a different behavior of WJ-MSCs from males and females, disclosing the chance to better understand cellular processes as autophagy and stemness, usable for future clinical applications.

Abstract
Anisocytosis has been associated with the severity and prognosis of several acute and chronic diseases, as well as physiological conditions such as pregnancy. Anisocytosis is quantified by the red blood cell distribution width (RDW), expressed as the ratio, multiplied by 100, between the standard deviation (SD) of red blood cell volumes and the mean corpuscular volume, or as the SD of erythrocyte volumes (RDW-SD). The aim of the present review was to report the state of the art on the physiological values and the putative diagnostic and prognostic roles of RDW in complicated pregnancy. Literature research for articles published in the last ten years was conducted in Pubmed, Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Scopus databases. Abstracts were independently screened by two investigators. If relevant, full articles were retrieved. References, in these articles, citing relevant reviews or original studies were also accessed to identify additional eligible studies. Any disagreement between the reviewers was resolved by a third investigator. A total of 28 studies were included in the review. These studies reported changes in RDW values during physiological pregnancy, and associations between the RDW and several pregnancy complications including anaemia, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and recurrent miscarriage. This review provides background information for establishing physiological and pathological RDW values in pregnancy for diagnostic and prognostic use in clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the molecular features of mesenchymal stem cells from Wharton Jelly (WJ-MSCs) of umbilical cord to predict their differentiation capacity. DESIGN Comparison of gene expression from mesenchymal stem cells of male and female umbilical cord SETTING: University hospital PATIENT (S): umbilical cords (n = 12, 6 males and 6 females) retrieved from spontaneous full-term vaginal delivery of healthy women INTERVENTION: we analyzed the expression of the stemness related genes C-MYC, OCT4, SOX2 and NANOG and of the epigenetic modulating gene DNA-methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1). MEAN OUTCOME MEASURE WJ-MSCs were isolated by standard procedures and immunophenotypically characterized. Gene expression analysis of stemness related genes and the epigenetic modulating gene DNMT1 were performed by real-time PCR RESULTS: expression of the OCT4 and DNMT1 genes was significantly higher in WJ- MSCs isolated from male subjects, as compared to MSCs isolated from female-derived WJ. The resulting higher expression of OCT4 and DNMT1 in WJ-MSCs from males as compared with female WJ-MSCs for the first time identifies a specific relationship between stemness genes, an epigenetic modulator, and gender differences. CONCLUSION our findings disclose novel biomedical implications in WJ-MSCs related to the sex of the donor, thus providing additional cues to exploit their regenerative potential in allogenic transplantation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Primary extranodal non-hodgkin vaginal lymphoma (PeNHVL) represents a rare entity, with few data published until now. We present here a series of patients with PeNHVL, analyzing our data as part of a detailed review of the available literature. METHODS The study included a consecutive series of 6 patients with final diagnosis of PeNHVL admitted at our Institution between January 2000 and December 2017. The systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. A literature search of the PubMed, MEDLINE and EMBASE electronic databases was performed using the following terms: 'vaginal lymphoma'. Relevant data were collected and analyzed for the purposes of this study, reporting results through a narrative approach. RESULTS In our series discomfort and vaginal pain, refractory to medical treatments represent the symptoms of disease presentation, and the presence of localized/diffused anelastic area in the vaginal wall with tactile sensation of cork emerges as diagnostic sign (Cork Wall sign). The literature revision included 41 studies, with an overall population of 74 patients. The vast majority of women were diagnosed as early stage disease (93.6%) and received chemotherapy (74.6%) with a very high response rate (96%). Death from disease occurred in 5 women (6.7%). CONCLUSIONS Localized or diffused hard-ligneous vaginal areas with Cork Wall sign represent the typical sign of disease presentation. PeNHVL is characterized by a very high sensitivity to chemotherapy and very favourable prognosis; therefore, radical surgery is not indicated. Histotype characterization is crucial to identify those uncommon variants associated with a less favorable clinical outcome.

Abstract
<b><i>Background/Aims:</i></b> Abnormally invasive placenta (AIP) includes placenta <i>accreta</i>, <i>increta</i>, and <i>percreta</i> and represents major complications of pregnancy. This study was designed to assess the role of ultrasonography in the identification of AIP among pregnant women with antepartum diagnosis of placenta <i>previa</i>. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A cross-sectional study was performed between May 2015 and April 2016 in 11 centers, including 242 women with <i>antepartum</i> diagnosis of placenta <i>previa</i>. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Ninety-eight out of 242 (40.49%) women had a histological diagnosis of placenta <i>accreta</i>. A higher number of caesarean deliveries (<i>p</i> = 0.001) and curettages (<i>p</i> = 0.027) and older age of the woman at the delivery (<i>p</i> = 0.031) were identified as risk factors for placenta <i>accreta</i>. The presence of irregularly shaped placental lacunae (vascular spaces) within the placenta (<i>p</i> = 0.008), protrusion of the placenta into the bladder (<i>p</i> < 0.0001), and turbulent blood flow through the lacunae on Doppler ultrasonography (<i>p</i> = 0.008) were predictors of placenta <i>accreta</i>. <b><i>Conclusions:</i></b> Women with a prior delivery by caesarean section have a high incidence of placenta <i>accreta</i> among women with antepartum diagnosis of placenta <i>previa.</i>

Abstract
PURPOSE To review the literature on thyroid function and thyroid disorders during pregnancy. METHODS A detailed literature research on MEDLINE, Cochrane library, EMBASE, NLH, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Google Scholar databases was done up to January 2018 with restriction to English language about articles regarding thyroid diseases and pregnancy. RESULTS Thyroid hormone deficiencies are known to be detrimental for the development of the fetus. In particular, the function of the central nervous system might be impaired, causing low intelligence quotient, and mental retardation. Overt and subclinical dysfunctions of the thyroid disease should be treated appropriately in pregnancy, aiming to maintain euthyroidism. Thyroxine (T4) replacement therapy should reduce thyrotropin (TSH) concentration to the recently suggested fixed upper limits of 2.5 mU/l (first and second trimester) and 3.0 mU/l (third trimester). Overt hyperthyroidism during pregnancy is relatively uncommon but needs prompt treatment due to the increased risk of preterm delivery, congenital malformations, and fetal death. The use of antithyroid drug (methimazole, propylthiouracil, carbimazole) is the first choice for treating overt hyperthyroidism, although they are not free of side effects. Subclinical hyperthyroidism tends to be asymptomatic and no pharmacological treatment is usually needed. Gestational transient hyperthyroidism is a self-limited non-autoimmune form of hyperthyroidism with negative antibody against TSH receptors, that is related to hCG-induced thyroid hormone secretion. The vast majority of these patients does not require antithyroid therapy, although administration of low doses of β-blocker may by useful in very symptomatic patients. CONCLUSIONS Normal maternal thyroid function is essential in pregnancy to avoid adverse maternal and fetal outcomes.

Abstract
This observational study was conducted in healthy premenopausal women, who presented themselves for contraception with an intrauterine system (IUS) releasing LNG (6 mcg/d) (Jaydess®, Bayer, Germany) at the outpatient Family Planning Clinics of the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari (CA/SS), University-Hospitals of CA/SS (Italy). After a screening visit, 31 women without contraindications to Jaydess® were included in the study. No difficulty in Jaydess® insertion (Ji) was found in 87% of subjects, with pelvic pain (PP) (visual analogic scale, VAS:5.33 ± 2.54) reported by 27/31 subjects at the Ji. Pelvic pain was reported by 17/31 subjects on the first day (VAS: 3.07 ± 3.1), 16/31 subjects on the second day (VAS:2.37 ± 2.71), and 11/31 subjects on the third day (VAS:1.18 ± 2.02) from Ji, with a significant (p < .001) decrease in the intensity. The primary purposes of the study were to evaluate whether a 12-month-treatment (12-M-T) with Jaydess® interferes on either the quality of life (QoL) or sexuality. Jaydess® did not modify either QoL or sexuality in the 25 subjects who completed the 12-M-T. Throughout the 12-M-T, PP, or pregnancies were not found; the menstrual blood loss was significantly (p < .0001) reduced, and the intensity VAS of dysmenorrhea (#14 subjects) significantly (p < .001) improved.
