Abstract
BACKGROUND Clinical studies have shown that diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) has been on the rise, with most patients presenting with severe and progressive symptoms. Currently, most of the available prediction models for DPN are derived from general clinical information and laboratory indicators. Several Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) indicators have been utilised to construct prediction models. In this study, we established a novel machine learning-based multi-featured Chinese-Western medicine-integrated prediction model for DPN using clinical features of TCM. MATERIALS AND METHODS The clinical data of 1581 patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treated at the Department of Endocrinology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine were collected. The data (including general information, laboratory parameters and TCM features) of 1142 patients with T2DM were selected after data cleaning. After baseline description analysis of the variables, the data were divided into training and validation sets. Four prediction models were established and their performance was evaluated using validation sets. Meanwhile, the accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score and area under the curve (AUC) of ROC were calculated using ten-fold cross-validation to further assess the performance of the models. An explanatory analysis of the results of the DPN prediction model was carried out using the SHAP framework based on machine learning-based prediction models. RESULTS Of the 1142 patients with T2DM, 681 had a comorbidity of DPN, while 461 did not. There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of age, cause of disease, systolic pressure, HbA1c, ALT, RBC, Cr, BUN, red blood cells in the urine, glucose in the urine, and protein in the urine (p < 0.05). T2DM patients with a comorbidity of DPN exhibited diverse TCM symptoms, including limb numbness, limb pain, hypodynamia, thirst with desire for drinks, dry mouth and throat, blurred vision, gloomy complexion, and unsmooth pulse, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Our results showed that the proposed multi-featured Chinese-Western medicine-integrated prediction model was superior to conventional models without characteristic TCM indicators. The model showed the best performance (accuracy = 0.8109, precision = 0.8029, recall = 0.9060, F1 score = 0.8511, and AUC = 0.9002). SHAP analysis revealed that the dominant risk factors that caused DPN were TCM symptoms (limb numbness, thirst with desire for drinks, blurred vision), age, cause of disease, and glycosylated haemoglobin. These risk factors were exerted positive effects on the DPN prediction models. CONCLUSIONS A multi-feature, Chinese-Western medicine-integrated prediction model for DPN was established and validated. The model improves early-stage identification of high-risk groups for DPN in the diagnosis and treatment of T2DM, while also providing informative support for the intelligent management of chronic conditions such as diabetes.

Abstract
Introduction Subjective tinnitus, the perception of sound without an external acoustic source, is often subsequent to noise-induced hearing loss or ototoxic medications. The condition is believed to result from neuroplastic alterations in the auditory centers, characterized by heightened spontaneous neural activities and increased synchrony due to an imbalance between excitation and inhibition. However, the role of the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), a structure composed exclusively of GABAergic neurons involved in thalamocortical oscillations, in the pathogenesis of tinnitus remains largely unexplored. Methods We induced tinnitus in mice using sodium salicylate and assessed tinnitus-like behaviors using the Gap Pre-Pulse Inhibition of the Acoustic Startle (GPIAS) paradigm. We utilized combined viral tracing techniques to identify the neural circuitry involved and employed immunofluorescence and confocal imaging to determine cell types and activated neurons. Results Salicylate-treated mice exhibited tinnitus-like behaviors. Our tracing clearly delineated the inputs and outputs of the auditory-specific TRN. We discovered that chemogenetic activation of the auditory TRN significantly reduced the salicylate-evoked rise in c-Fos expression in the auditory cortex. Discussion This finding posits the TRN as a potential modulatory target for tinnitus treatment. Furthermore, the mapped sensory inputs to the auditory TRN suggest possibilities for employing optogenetic or sensory stimulations to manipulate thalamocortical activities. The precise mapping of the auditory TRN-mediated neural pathways offers a promising avenue for designing targeted interventions to alleviate tinnitus symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term non-traumatic noise exposure, such as heavy traffic noise, can elicit emotional disorders in humans. However, the underlying neural substrate is still poorly understood. METHODS We exposed mice to moderate white noise for 28 days to induce anxiety-like behaviors, measured by open-field, elevated plus maze, and light-dark box tests. In vivo multi-electrode recordings in awake mice were used to examine neuronal activity. Chemogenetics were used to silence specific brain regions. Viral tracing, immunofluorescence, and confocal imaging were applied to define the neural circuit and characterize the morphology of microglia. RESULTS Exposure to moderate noise for 28 days at an 85-dB sound pressure level resulted in anxiety-like behaviors in open-field, elevated plus maze, and light-dark box tests. Viral tracing revealed that fibers projecting from the auditory cortex and auditory thalamus terminate in the lateral amygdala (LA). A noise-induced increase in spontaneous firing rates of the LA and blockade of noise-evoked anxiety-like behaviors by chemogenetic inhibition of LA glutamatergic neurons together confirmed that the LA plays a critical role in noise-induced anxiety. Noise-exposed animals were more vulnerable to anxiety induced by acute noise stressors than control mice. In addition to these behavioral abnormalities, ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1 (Iba-1)-positive microglia in the LA underwent corresponding morphological modifications, including reduced process length and branching and increased soma size following noise exposure. Treatment with minocycline to suppress microglia inhibited noise-associated changes in microglial morphology, neuronal electrophysiological activity, and behavioral changes. Furthermore, microglia-mediated synaptic phagocytosis favored inhibitory synapses, which can cause an imbalance between excitation and inhibition, leading to anxiety-like behaviors. CONCLUSIONS Our study identifies LA microglial activation as a critical mediator of noise-induced anxiety-like behaviors, leading to neuronal and behavioral changes through selective synapse phagocytosis. Our results highlight the pivotal but previously unrecognized roles of LA microglia in chronic moderate noise-induced behavioral changes.

Abstract
The effects of inorganic fertilizer addition method on the organic-inorganic co-composting process, especially the structure of humic acid and the mechanism of microbial nutrient restriction, are unclear. In this article, the effects of one-time and fractional addition of inorganic fertilizer on the structure of humic acid, extracellular enzyme activity, extracellular enzyme stoichiometry and the culturable growth-promoting bacteria during organic-inorganic co-composting were determined. The results showed that the addition of inorganic fertilizer promoted the humification degree of compost. Compared nitrogen with phosphorus, the fermentation microorganism behaved as N-restricted throughout the process. Compared one-time addition with fractional addition of inorganic treatments, the TOC, WSOC, NO3--N and humic acid content in the mature compost of the one-time addition treatment were higher. The contents of nitrogen, oxygen, the carboxyl functional groups, aromatic compounds, and the nitrogen/carbon atomic ratio in the humic acid structure increased as the composting process proceeded, while the contents of hydrogen, aliphatic substances, and the hydrogen/carbon atomic ratio decreased, and the elemental composition and structural changes of humic acids indicated that the humification degree of the one-time addition treatment was higher. The addition of inorganic fertilizer increased the relative abundances of Bacillus megaterium and Bacillus subtilis in the mature compost.

Abstract
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder, and it has been shown that the etiology of irritable bowel syndrome is a multifactorial complex of neurological, inflammatory, and immunological changes. There is growing evidence of low-grade chronic inflammation in irritable bowel patients. The peripheral action response of their intestinal immune factors is integrated into the central nervous system, while the microbiota interacts with the brain-gut axis contributing to the development of low-grade chronic inflammation. The objective of this review is to present a discussion about the impact of immune-brain-gut axis-inflammation interactions on irritable bowel syndrome, its clinical relevance in the course of irritable bowel syndrome disease, and possible therapeutic modalities.

Abstract
The brain-gut axis forms a bidirectional communication system between the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and cognitive brain areas. Disturbances to this system in disease states such as inflammatory bowel disease have consequences for neuronal activity and subsequent cognitive function. The gut-microbiota-brain axis refers to the communication between gut-resident bacteria and the brain. This circuits exists to detect gut microorganisms and relay information to specific areas of the central nervous system (CNS) that in turn, regulate gut physiology. Changes in both the stability and diversity of the gut microbiota have been implicated in several neuronal disorders, including depression, autism spectrum disorder Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis. Correcting this imbalance with medicinal herbs, the metabolic products of dysregulated bacteria and probiotics have shown hope for the treatment of these neuronal disorders. In this review, we focus on recent advances in our understanding of the intricate connections between the gut-microbiota and the brain. We discuss the contribution of gut microbiota to neuronal disorders and the tangible links between diseases of the GI tract with cognitive function and behaviour. In this regard, we focus on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) given its strong links to brain function and anxiety disorders. This adds to the growing body of evidence supporting targeted therapeutic strategies to modulate the gut microbiota for the treatment of brain/mental-health-related disease.

Abstract
Reasonable fertilization management can increase nutrient content and enzyme activity in rhizosphere soil, and even increase soil microbial richness. However, different fertilizers could raise distinct influences on the soil properties, including soil environmental factors (physicochemical properties and enzymatic activities) and microbial community. Here, the effects of two soil amendments (microbial fertilizer and woody peat) on environmental factors and microbial community structure in tobacco rhizosphere soil were evaluated, with the correlations between microbes and environmental factors explored. As the results, microbial fertilizer could effectively alleviate soil acidification, increase available potassium and organic matter contents in soil, and was also beneficial to increase nitrate reductase activity in rhizosphere soil. Fertilizers cause changes in the abundance of certain microbes in the soil. Besides, it was shown that the candidate phyla Gal15, Acidobacterota, Latescibacterota, Mortierellommycota, Basidiomycota, and Rozellomycota in tobacco rhizosphere soil had significant correlation with soil environmental factors. Through the functional analysis of these populations, it can be deduced that the changes in the abundance of certain microorganisms may be an important reason for the differences in environmental factors. All these indicated that the differences of environmental factors in different treatments are closely related to the abundance of some special soil microorganisms. Studying the life activities of these microbes would provide good guidance for exploring the interaction among crops, soil, and microorganisms and improving crop yields.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the feasibility of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in children. Methods: Clinical data and follow-up information of 4 AIS children who received EVT in the Department of Intervention & Hemangioma at the Children's Hospital of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics from December 2020 to June 2021 were collected retrospectively. The vascular recanalization after EVT was assessed by the modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction (mTICI) score. Efficacy outcomes were assessed with initial and postprocedural Pediatric National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (PedNIHSS) score, and the modified Rankin scale (mRS) score at 3 and 6 months after treatment. Safety assessments included perioperative complications and intracranial hemorrhage post-treatment. Results: A total of 5 EVT treatment were performed on 4 children with AIS, of whom 3 were male. The age of onset was 4.6, 13.8, 7.8, 8.0, 8.9 years, respectively. The time from symptom onset to initiation of EVT was 19.0, 25.0, 22.0, 4.0, 16.5 hours, respectively and all patients achieved successful recanalization of the vessel after EVT (mTICI≥2b). The PedNIHSS score was 39, 14, 25, 39, 24 before treatment and decreased to 8, 1, 12, 39, 5 at discharge. All the procedures were performed with no perioperative complications. Only 1 patient with congenital heart disease had a recurrent AIS with malignant brain oedema and brain hernia. Although the occluded vessels were successfully recanalized,the symptoms were not improved and this patient died after treatment abandonment. The other 3 patients achieved good recovery at 6 months postoperatively. The mRS score of 3 patients was 3, 1, 2 at 3 months after EVT and decreased to 2, 1, 1 at 6 months. Conclusion: EVT treatment may be feasible and safe for pediatric AIS due to large vessel occlusion even when the treatment was initiated 6 hours post stroke, but children with heart disease may have a dismal prognosis.

Abstract
During agricultural production, plowing affects the existing traits of the planted soil, including environmental factors (physicochemical properties and soil enzymatic activity) and microbial community, but whether deep tillage and conventional tillage cause differences in soil microecology are unknown. In this study, the 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing technology was combined with soil environmental factor detection to analyze the differences in microbial diversity of smokey soils at different depths. As a result, the composition and structure of microbial community varied in different soil depth after plowing. Two dominant phyla, Actinobacteria and Acidobacteria, have varied a lot between the deep-plowing treatment HS3 (the sample in 10–20 cm depth after deep-plowing treatment) sample and the conventional tillage HC3 (treatment the sample in 10–20 cm depth after conventional tillage) sample. The abundance of Actinobacteria has increased significantly, while the abundance of Acidobacteria has decreased significantly. Moreover, deep tillage increased the activity of sucrase (S-SC) and nitrate reductase (NR) in samples with soil depth below 20 cm. In summary, deep tillage disturbed spatial microbial diversity and environmental factors significantly. This would provide new guidance for improving farmland management strategies, optimizing the activation methods of soil layers, further improving crop planting soil, and increasing crop yield.

Abstract
Iturin A is a biosurfactant with various applications, and its low synthesis capability limits its production and application development. Fatty acids play a critical role in cellular metabolism and target product syntheses, and the relationship between fatty acid supplies and iturin A synthesis is unclear. In this study, we attempted to increase iturin A production via strengthening fatty acid synthesis pathways in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. First, acetyl-CoA carboxylase AccAD and ACP S-malonyltransferase fabD were overexpressed via promoter replacement, and iturin A yield was increased to 1.36 g/L by 2.78-fold in the resultant strain HZ-ADF1. Then, soluble acyl-ACP thioesterase derived from Escherichia coli showed the best performance for iturin A synthesis, as compared to those derived from B. amyloliquefaciens and Corynebacterium glutamicum, the introduction of which in HZ-ADF1 further led to a 57.35% increase of iturin A yield, reaching 2.14 g/L. Finally, long-chain fatty acid-CoA ligase LcfA was overexpressed in HZ-ADFT to attain the final strain HZ-ADFTL2, and iturin A yield reached 2.96 g/L, increasing by 6.59-fold, and the contents of fatty acids were enhanced significantly in HZ-ADFTL2, as compared to the original strain HZ-12. Taken together, our results implied that strengthening fatty acid supplies was an efficient approach for iturin A production, and this research provided a promising strain for industrial production of iturin A.

Abstract
The current study aimed to investigate the effects of school resumption on college students' mental health during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. We used the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) to assess stress, depression, and anxiety, respectively, between same-age college students returning to school and those not returning to school. Of 1,598 students who completed the baseline survey (S1), 836 students completed a follow-up survey 10 months after school resumption (S2). There were statistically significant differences in stress and mild anxiety between male and female students (p < 0.01). Comparison of PSS-10, PHQ-9, and SAS scores by perceived impact of COVID-19 showed significant differences (Welch test, p < 0.01). The correlation between PHQ-9 and SAS scores in school resumption and non-school resumption groups was relatively strong (adjusted R2 = 0.49 vs. 0.5). Multivariate linear regression showed that only PSS-10 (p < 0.01) and SAS (p < 0.05) scores significantly differed between returning and non-returning students. School resumption was an independent risk factor for PSS-10 and SAS scores. PSS-10, PHQ-9, and SAS scores were significantly higher in S1 than in S2 (p < 0.01). During the COVID-19 pandemic, stress, anxiety, and depression were prevalent among college students; however, stress and anxiety were generally lower among college students returning to school than among non-returning students. Abstract
Biochar is an effective soil conditioner. However, we have limited understanding of biochar effects on the tobacco growth and bacterial communities in rhizosphere. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different straw biochar amendment (0, 2, 10, and 50 g/kg dry soil) on tobacco growth, soil properties, and bacterial communities in rhizosphere by pot trials. Most of tobacco agronomic traits increased when the application rate varied from 0 to 10 g/kg, but were inhibited by 50 g/kg of biochar application. Soil pH, SOC, available nutrients and soil urease, invertase, and acid phosphatase activities were all increased with the biochar application, whereas catalase activity decreased or remained unchanged. The OTUs and bacterial community diversity indices differed with the biochar application doses in rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils. And significant differences in bacterial communities were found between the rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils despite the biochar addition. Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria were the dominant phyla in all soil samples, but they had different abundances in different treatment influenced by the rhizosphere and biochar effect. The high dose of biochar (50 g/kg) decreased the similarity of soil bacterial community structure in rhizosphere compared with those in non-rhizosphere soil. These results provide a better understanding of the microecological benefits of straw biochar in tobacco ecosystem.

Abstract
Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is one of the chronic complications of diabetes which can cause severe harm to patients. In order to determine the key genes and pathways related to the pathogenesis of DN, we downloaded the microarray data set GSE27382 from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and adopted bioinformatics methods for comprehensive analysis, including functional enrichment, construction of PPI networks, central genes screening, TFs-target interaction analysis, and evaluation of immune infiltration characteristics. Finally, we examined quantitative real- time PCR (qPCR) to validate the expression of hub genes. A total of 318 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, among which 125 upregulated DEGs were enriched in the mitotic nuclear division, extracellular region, immunoglobulin receptor binding, and p53 signaling pathway, while 193 downregulated DEGs were enriched in ion transport, membrane, synapse, sodium channel activity, and retrograde endocannabinoid signaling. GSEA plots showed that condensed nuclear chromosome kinetochore were the most significant enriched gene set positively correlated with the DN group. Importantly, we identified five central genes (Birc5, Bub1, Cdk1, Ccnb2, and Ccnb1), and KEGG pathway analysis showed that the five hub genes were focused on progesterone-mediated oocyte maturation, cell cycle, and p53 signaling pathway. The proportion of immune cells from DN tissue and normal group showed significant individual differences. In DN samples, T cells CD4 memory resting and dendritic cells resting accounted for a higher proportion, and macrophage M2 accounted for a lower proportion. In addition, all five central genes showed consistent correlation with immune cell infiltration levels. qPCR showed the same expression trend of five central genes as in our analysis. Our research identified key genes related to differential genes and immune infiltration related to the pathogenesis of DN and provided new diagnostic and potential therapeutic targets for DN.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the potential mechanism of action of Yi-Qi-Huo-Xue-Tong-Luo formula (YQHXTLF) in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). METHODS Network pharmacology and molecular docking techniques were used in this study. Firstly, the active ingredients and the corresponding targets of YQHXTLF were retrieved using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) platform; subsequently, the targets related to DPN were retrieved using GeneCards, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), Pharmgkb, Therapeutic Target Database (TTD) and Drugbank databases; the common targets of YQHXTLF and DPN were obtained by Venn diagram; afterwards, the "YQHXTLF Pharmacodynamic Component-DPN Target" regulatory network was visualized using Cytoscape 3.6.1 software, and Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed on the potential targets using R 3.6.3 software. Finally, molecular docking of the main chemical components in the PPI network with the core targets was verified by Autodock Vina software. RESULTS A total of 86 active ingredients and 229 targets in YQHXTLF were screened, and 81 active ingredients and 110 targets were identified to be closely related to diabetic peripheral neuropathy disease. PPI network mapping identified TP53, MAPK1, JUN, and STAT3 as possible core targets. KEGG pathway analysis showed that these targets are mostly involved in AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, TNF signaling pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway. The molecular docking results showed that the main chemical components of YQHXTLF have a stable binding activity to the core pivotal targets. CONCLUSION YQHXTLF may act on TP53, MAPK1, JUN, and STAT3 to regulate inflammatory response, apoptosis, or proliferation as a molecular mechanism for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, reflecting its multitarget and multipathway action, and providing new ideas to further uncover its pharmacological basis and mechanism of action.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the role of the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R)/β-catenin signaling axis in bone impairment induced by hyperglycemia in ovariectomized rats. METHODS Rats were divided into four groups. The sham group received sham operation and a single intraperitoneal administration of vehicle. The ovariectomy (OVX) group was subjected to bilateral OVX and vehicle injection. The streptozotocin (STZ) group received sham operation and a single STZ injection to induce hyperglycemia. The OVX + STZ group received bilateral OVX and a single STZ injection. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry measurement, bone biomechanics test, micro-computed tomography scan, and hematoxylin-eosin staining were performed to evaluate bone alteration in this model. The expression of relevant signals including IGF-1R, glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β), and β-catenin were examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blot. RESULTS The OVX, STZ, and OVX + STZ groups induced bone loss, attenuated bone strength, and impaired microarchitecture compared with the sham group, respectively. Compared with OVX, more serious bone damage was found in the OVX + STZ group, which showed enhanced phosphorylation of IGF-1R, GSK-3β, and β-catenin. CONCLUSION OVX plus STZ induced more serious bone impairment than OVX alone, which involves the IGF-1R/β-catenin signaling axis in the pathogenesis. This may provide a potential target for treatment of postmenopausal diabetic osteoporosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate expressions of lncRNA FOXCUT in gastric adenocarcinoma patients and its effects on the cell biological function. PATIENTS AND METHODS Expressions and survival of lncRNA FOXCUT in gastric adenocarcinoma patients (GA) in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were collected. Fifty patients with GA treated in our hospital (patient group) and another 50 contemporaneous normal people (normal group) were collected. Expressions of lncRNA FOXCUT in GES1, SNU-5, HGC-27, SGC-7901, and AGS cells were detected. Also, si-lncRNA FOXCUT and si-NC sequences were transfected to SGC-7901. Si-RNA and si-NC groups were constructed in AGS cells. QRT-PCR was used to detect expressions of lncRNA FOXCUT in samples. MTT, transwell, and flow cytometry were used to detect the proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis of transfected cells. Patients were followed up for 5 years to observe their survival. RESULTS Expressions of lncRNA FOXCUT in cancer tissues of GA patients in TCGA database were significantly increased (p<0.001). The survival rate of patients with low expressions of lncRNA FOXCUT was significantly increased (p=0.017, p=0.047). LncRNA FOXCUT is closely related to patients' tumor diameter, lymph node metastasis, TNM staging, and differentiation degree (p<0.05). LncRNA FOXCUT has high clinical value in disease diagnosis. Multivariate Cox regression analysis found that tumor diameter, lymph node metastasis, and lncRNA FOXCUT were independent prognostic factors. Compared with GES1, expressions of lncRNA FOXCUT in GA cells increased significantly (p<0.05), the proliferation and invasion ability of si-RNA group decreased significantly (p<0.05) compared with si-NC group, and the apoptosis rate of si-RNA group was significantly lower than that of si-NC group (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS We showed that the inhibition of the expressions of lncRNA FOXCUT can reduce the proliferation and invasion of GA cells and increase apoptosis, which can be used as a potential therapeutic target for GA.

Abstract
To evaluate the micro-ecological effects of tetracycline residues on tobacco soil, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to study the effects of the addition of different concentrations (0, 5, 50, and 500 mg·kg-1) of tetracycline on the abundance, diversity, and structure of bacterial and fungal communities in the rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soil of flue-cured tobacco in China. Results showed that the presence of tetracycline had an important but varying effect on soil bacterial and fungal community richness, diversity, and structure. Changes in the diversity indices (Chao index and Shannon index) of soil bacterial and fungal communities showed a similar pattern after the addition of tetracycline; however, a few differences were found in the effects of tetracycline in the rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soil, suggesting an evident rhizosphere-specific effect. The bacterial community at the phylum level in the rhizosphere closely clustered into one group, which might be the result of tobacco root secretions and rhizodeposition. Tetracycline showed a concentration-dependent effect on the soil bacterial community structure. The soil bacterial community structures observed after treatments with higher concentrations of tetracycline (50 and 500 mg·kg-1) were found to be closely related. Moreover, the effects of the treatments with higher concentrations of tetracycline, on the soil bacterial community at the phylum level, were different from those with lower concentrations of tetracycline (5 mg·kg-1), and CK treatments. This might have resulted from the induction of increasing selective pressure with increasing antibiotic concentration. Tetracycline continued to affect the soil bacterial community throughout the experiment. Tetracycline was found to have a varying impact on the community structure of soil fungi compared to that of soil bacteria, and the addition of an intermediate concentration of tetracycline (50 mg·kg-1) significantly increased the soil fungal diversity in the non-rhizosphere soil. The biological effects of tetracycline on the soil fungal community and the fungal-bacterial interactions, therefore, require further elucidation, warranting further research.

Abstract
Estrogen-related receptors (ERRs) play indispensable roles in development, energy metabolism, and cancers and are metabolic switches in Drosophila. However, the mechanism underlying their metabolic role is unknown in insects. This study analysed the expression profiles of Bombyx mori ERR (BmERR), hexokinase (BmHK), pyruvate kinase (BmPK) and phosphofructokinase (BmPFK) during embryonic development. The expression of BmERR tended to be similar to that of the other genes. We observed a regulatory association between BmERR and glycolytic rate-limiting enzymes by BmERR overexpression, RNA interference (RNAi), and ERR inhibitors in B. mori embryo cells. Subsequently, ERR cis-regulation elements (ERREs) were predicted and identified in the BmPFK promoter. Transfection assays, electrophoretic mobility shift assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation showed that BmERR can bind to one of these elements to regulate the expression of BmPFK. ERREs were also predicted in the BmHK and BmPK promoters. In the eggs, the expression of glycolytic rate-limiting enzyme genes was suppressed when the expression of BmERR was interference by double-stranded BmERR, the glucose levels also was increased. Meanwhile, the development of silkworm embryos was delayed by about 1 day. These results indicate that BmERR can bind to the ERREs of glycolytic gene promoters and regulate the expression of glycolytic genes, ultimately affecting embryonic development in silkworms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The association between telomeres length (TL) and cancer mortality is uncertain. We tested the hypotheses that long TL are associated with reduced cancer mortality. DESIGN Prospective cohort study. SETTING the National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES, 1999-2002). PARTICIPANTS The analytic sample included adults (n = 7183) who had TL measurements. MEASUREMENTS DNA was obtained via blood samples. Telomere length was assessed using the quantitative polymerase chain reaction method. RESULTS During follow-up (0.08-12.7 person-years, median = 9.5 years), we observed 195 participants had cancer as causes of death. TL was negatively corelated with age, body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), C-reactive protein (CRP), race, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and cancer mortality, conversely, positively corelated with alcohol use, but not related to diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and smoking. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that TL was significantly associated with cancer mortality (log-rank, P <0.001). CONCLUSIONS Our study expands upon previous evidence of a relationship between TL and cancer mortality. TL may be a useful tool for evaluating risk of cancer mortality in American adults.

Abstract
In this article, the changes in the functional marker genes associated with nitrogen biological transformation during the organic-inorganic co-composting process with adding biochar or not were studied. Results showed that the addition of biochar increased the abundance of ureC, AOA amoA and AOB amoA gene while decreased the abundance of nirK gene. The addition of 10% biochar by weight ratio was better for the optimization of nitrogen biological transformation process. The correlation analysis showed that the ureC gene was highly correlated with NH4+-N concentration while the AOA amoA and AOB amoA genes were moderately correlated with NH4+-N concentration. Similarly, the nirK gene was moderately correlated with NO3--N concentration. This work would contribute to understanding the mechanisms underlying in the nitrogen bio-transformation further at the molecular level during organic-inorganic co-composting.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We conducted a single-arm phase II trial to evaluate the efficacy and adverse effects (AEs) of an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor monoclonal antibody, nimotuzumab, combined with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil (PF) as first-line treatment in recurrent metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma after radical radiotherapy. METHODS Patients who met the eligibility criteria were recruited from ten institutions (ClinicalTrials.gov; NCT01616849). A Simon optimal two-stage design was used to calculate the sample size. All patients received weekly nimotuzumab (200 mg) added to cisplatin (100 mg/m2 D1) and 5-fluorouracil (4 g/m2 continuous infusion D1-4) every 3-weekly for a maximum of six cycles. Primary end point was objective response rate (ORR). Secondary end points included disease control rate (DCR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and AEs. RESULTS A total of 35 patients were enrolled (13 in stage 1 and 22 in stage 2). Overall ORR and DCR were 71.4% (25/35) and 85.7% (30/35), respectively. Median PFS and OS were 7.0 (95% CI 5.8-8.2) months and 16.3 (95% CI 11.4-21.3) months, respectively. Unplanned exploratory analyses suggest that patients who received ≥2400 mg nimotuzumab and ≥4 cycles of PF had superior ORR, PFS and OS than those who did not (88.9% versus 12.5%, P < 0.001; 7.4 versus 2.7 months, P = 0.081; 17.0 versus 8.0 months, P = 0.202). Favourable subgroups included patients with lung metastasis [HROS 0.324 (95% CI 0.146-0.717), P = 0.008] and disease-free interval of >12 months [HROS 0.307 (95% CI 0.131-0.724), P = 0.004], but no difference was observed for metastatic burden. The only major grade 3/4 AE was leukopenia (62.9%). CONCLUSION Combination nimotuzumab-PF chemotherapy demonstrates potential efficacy, and is well tolerated as first-line chemotherapy regimen in recurrent metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Abstract
AIMS The underlying mechanisms of vitamin D receptor (VDR) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) genetic variation associated with bone mineral density and osteoporosis remain uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the association of VDR and OPG gene polymorphism as well as gene-gene interaction and their haplotype combination with the risk of osteoporosis. METHODS Polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism was carried out for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection. Generalized multifactor dimension reduction (GMDR) is used to identify the interaction. SHEsis software evaluated the haplotype and logistic regression was performed to assess the association between the SNPs within the VDR and OPG genes and osteoporosis. RESULTS The risk of osteoporosis in the VDR-rs2228570 polymorphism T-allele carriers was significantly higher than that in CC (CT/TT versus CC) individuals (adjusted odds ratio [OR] [95% confidence interval (CI)] = 1.76 [1.33-2.22]). The risk of osteoporosis was also higher in the G-allele carrier of the OPG-rs3102735 polymorphism than in individuals with the AA genotype (AG/GG vs. AA) (adjusted OR [95% CI] = 1.65 [1.27-2.14]). However, after adjusting for sex, age, and waist circumference covariates, no significant association of VDR-rs17879735 and OPG-rs2073618 with the osteoporosis risk was revealed. The GMDR method identified that gene-gene interactions were significant, but not for gene/AO interaction. Haplotypes were analyzed with SHEsis software. We did not detect a high-risk haplotype combination associated with osteoporosis. CONCLUSIONS Both VDR-rs2228570-T and OPG-rs3102735-G and their interactions are related to the increased risk of osteoporosis.

Abstract
Endothelial dysfunction is a key pathophysiological step in early stage diabetes mellitus (DM) macrovascular complications and is also crucial in the inflammatory mechanisms of macrovascular complications. However, there is currently no effective intervention to improve endothelial dysfunction associated with DM macrovascular complications. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), which can be extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus membranaceus, has potential therapeutic effects on DM and its complications. The present study evaluated the effect of AS-IV on high glucose-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) injury and its possible mechanism. The result indicated that AS-IV has a significant protective effect on high glucose-induced HUVEC injury. AS-IV could significantly promote cell proliferation, reduce apoptosis and decrease the protein and mRNA expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β in HUVECs. Furthermore, AS-IV could decrease the expression of phosphorylated c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylated apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1, cytochrome c, cleaved-caspase-9, cleaved-caspase-3 and the relative ratio of B-cell lymphoma-2 associated X protein/B-cell lymphoma-2 in HUVECs. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that AS-IV could suppress apoptosis and inflammatory reactions promoted by high glucose conditions in HUVECs by inhibiting the JNK signaling pathway. These findings suggest that AS-IV could inhibit the process of endothelial dysfunction in diabetic macrovascular complications.

Abstract
In this article, the changes in carbon, nitrogen components, and humic substances during organic-inorganic aerobic co-composting, with adding biochar as an additive or not, were studied. Results showed that adding a certain amount of inorganic fertilizers had no adverse effects on the compost fermentation process. Biochar enhanced the temperature, pH, oxygen content in the compost piles and ultimately hastened the fermentation process. Biochar contributed to the decomposition of hemicellulose, cellulose, lignin and promoted compost humification. Adding biochar increased the contents of acid hydrolysis nitrogen, amino acid nitrogen, amino sugar nitrogen, unidentified organic nitrogen and decreased the content of ammonia organic nitrogen thus improved nitrogen transformation and reduced nitrogen loss. The addition of biochar increased the nutrients contents in mature composts. The amendment of 10-15% biochar by weight as an additive would be optimum for the co-composting of organic-inorganic materials. These results contributed to produce value-added composting fertilizers.

Abstract
Chaenomeles speciosa (Sweet) Nakai is a medicinal plant. Until date, there are no studies focusing on comparing the chemical profiles, antioxidant activity and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the dried fruits of C. speciosa from different production regions. In the study, we investigated the chemical components of dried fruits of C. speciosa from Yunnan, Chongqing, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces in China in relation to the antioxidant activity and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. C. speciosa from Yunnan had higher total flavonoid (47.92 ± 3.79 mg/g), total polyphenol (29.15 ± 0.29 mg/g) and polysaccharide (27.60 ± 1.56 mg/g) contents than plants from other production areas. Samples from Yunnan, Zhejiang and Anhui (all > 3200 mg/kg) had higher free amino acid contents than those from Chongqing (2286.66 mg/kg). Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid levels were highest in samples from Zhejiang (555.98 ± 20.88 μg/g) and Anhui (321.06 ± 14.64 μg/g), respectively. C. speciosa from Chongqing had low total flavonoid, total polyphenol, polysaccharide, free amino acid, oleanolic acid and ursolic acid contents but high levels of palmitic acid (12.04 ± 0.02 mg/g) and stearic acid (2.23 ± 0.08 mg/g). Among four production areas, Yunnan represented the highest antioxidant activity and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. In addition, correlation analysis revealed that total flavonoid, total polyphenol, polysaccharide and ursolic acid were the major components responsible for the antioxidant activity of C. speciosa, while total flavonoid and polysaccharide were the main contributors for α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the plant. These results would be helpful for evaluating the quality of C. speciosa in the different production areas.

Abstract
Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) is a common congenital malformation of the craniofacial region. There are 3 possible pathogenic models of HFM—vascular abnormality and hemorrhage in the craniofacial region, damage to Meckel’s cartilage, and the abnormal development of cranial neural crest cells—and the most plausible hypothesis is the vascular abnormality and hemorrhage model. These 3 models are interrelated, and none of them is completely concordant with all the variable manifestations of HFM. External environmental factors (e.g., thalidomide, triazene, retinoic acid, and vasoactive medications), maternal intrinsic factors (e.g., maternal diabetes), and genetic factors (e.g., the recently reported mutations in OTX2, PLCD3, and MYT1) may lead to HFM through ≥1 of these pathogenic processes. Whole genome sequencing to identify additional pathogenic variants, biological functional studies to understand the exact molecular mechanisms, and additional animal model and clinical studies with large stratified samples to elucidate the pathogenesis of HFM will be necessary. Small-molecule drugs, as well as CRISPR/CAS9-based genetic interventions, for the prevention and treatment of HFM may also be a future research hotspot.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To research the central molecular mechanism of gastric motility in functional dyspepsia (FD) rats treated with electroacupuncture (EA) at shu and mu points of stomach. METHODS A total of 30 SD rats were randomized into a blank group, a model group, a Zhongwan+Weishu group, a Weishu group and a Zhongwan group, 6 rats in each group. FD rats were established by moderate clipping tail infuriation and irregular feeding except in the blank group. EA was used at "Zhongwan"(CV 12),"Weishu"(BL 21), and"Zhongwan"(CV 12) +"Weishu"(BL 21) in the corresponding groups for 7 days, once a day, and 20 min a time. No intervention was used in the blank and model groups. Grabbing and fixation were applied in the model group. Gastric antrum motion range and frequency were recorded by gastrointestinal pressure transducer. The expression of subunit NR1 of N-methyl-D-aspartate recepter (NMDAR) in dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV) was determined by Western blotting. The content of serum nitric oxide (NO) was measured by ELISA. RESULTS Compared with the blank group, the gastric antrum motion range and NR1 in the DMV decreased and the serum NO content increased in the model group (all P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the gastric antrum motion range and NR1 in the DMV increased and the serum NO content decreased in the three EA groups (all P<0.05). Compared with the Zhongwan and Weishu groups, the gastric antrum motion range and NR1 in the DMV increased in the Zhongwan + Weishu group (all P<0.05). Compared with Zhongwan + Weishu and Zhongwan groups, the expression of NO in the Weishu group decreased (both P<0.05). The gastric antrum motion frequency among the 5 groups had no statistical significance (all P>0.05). CONCLUSION EA at the shu and mu points can regulate the gastric motility in FD rats which may be by modulating the activity of NMDAR in the central DMV region, thus regulating the serum NO content.

Abstract
Oestrogen-related receptor (ERR) is involved in oestrogen receptor (ER) signalling pathways owing to its similarity to ER in terms of domain structure and co-activator and response elements. Although insects lack ER, they harbour an ERR gene that is thought to modulate metabolism and energy conversion via an unknown mechanism. The present study investigated the function of ERR in insects using female silkworm (Bombyx mori, Bm). We found that the expression of B. mori vitellogenin (BmVg) and B. mori ERR (BmERR) in the fat bodies of female silkworms at different stages of development exhibited alternating patterns, and RNA interference of BmERR in females induced BmVg transcription, resulting in an increase in egg weight relative to the control. Furthermore, BmERR was found to be involved in regulating the transcription of BmVg through an oestrogen-related receptor response element (ERRE) in the promoter of the BmVg gene, as demonstrated by electrophoretic mobility shift assay, cell transfection assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation. In summary, our results indicate that BmERR bound to the ERRE motif in the BmVg promoter reducing the expression of BmVg in the fat body of the female silkworm. To our surprise, the ERRE also showed the ability to bind the ecdysone receptor (BmEcR) and ultraspiracle complex. Thus, we surmise that ERR participates in steroid hormone signalling by engaging in crosstalk with the ER pathway in vertebrates and with the EcR pathway in insects.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to validate a revised Mandarin version of the Postoperative Quality of Recovery Scale (PostopQRS) and to apply the revised version in a Chinese population. In a prospective design, bilingual volunteers completed the scale at baseline, day one, day seven, and day 14 in both languages, with the order of language and parallel forms randomised. In addition, lung cancer patients undergoing open or video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) completed the Mandarin version prior to surgery, day one, day three, day seven, day 14, one month, and three months postoperatively. Sixty-eight volunteers participated in the validation part of the study and in the clinical application, 93 lung cancer patients were included. The scores in the Mandarin version were equal to the English version in all domains at all timepoints including the word generation task, when the Mandarin morpheme was included in any part of the Mandarin word. However, Mandarin scores were lower in the word generation task if the morpheme was only included in the first part of the word. In addition, the Mandarin version was able to identify lower rates of overall recovery (<i>P</i> <0.01), nociceptive (<i>P</i> <0.01), emotive (<i>P</i> <0.01), and activities of daily living recovery (<i>P</i>=0.02) after open surgery compared to after VATS. The revised Mandarin version is equivalent to the English version for the cognitive domain, if morpheme substitution for the word generation task is allowed as any part of the word, and it is able to discriminate quality of recovery in Chinese patients.

Abstract
Essentials VKORL1 and VKORC1 have a similar overall structure and warfarin-binding pocket. A peripheral region stabilizing this pocket controls warfarin sensitivity of the VKOR paralogs. A human single nucleotide polymorphism in this region renders VKORL1 sensitive to warfarin. A group of warfarin-resistant mutations in VKORC1 acts by disrupting peripheral interactions. SUMMARY Background The human genome encodes two paralogs of vitamin-K-epoxide reductase, VKORC1 and VKORL1, that support blood coagulation and other vitamin-K-dependent processes. Warfarin inhibits both enzymes, but VKORL1 is relatively resistant to warfarin. Objectives To understand the difference between VKORL1 and VKORC1, and the cause of warfarin-resistant (WR) mutations in VKORC1. Methods We performed systematic mutagenesis and analyzed warfarin responses with a cell-based activity assay. Mass spectrometry analyses were used to detect cellular redox state. Results VKORC1 and VKORL1 adopt a similar intracellular redox state with four-transmembrane-helix topology. Most WR mutations identified in VKORC1 also confer resistance in VKORL1, indicating that warfarin inhibits these paralogs at a common binding site. A group of WR mutations, distant from the warfarin-binding site, show significantly less resistance in VKORL1 than in VKORC1, implying that their different warfarin responses are determined by peripheral interactions. Remarkably, we identify a critical peripheral region in which single mutations, Glu37Lys or His46Tyr, drastically increase the warfarin sensitivity of VKORL1. In the background of these warfarin-sensitive VKORL1 mutants, WR mutations showing relative less resistance in wild-type VKORL1 become much more resistant, suggesting a structural conversion to resemble VKORC1. At this peripheral region, we also identified a human single nucleotide polymorphism that confers warfarin sensitivity of VKORL1. Conclusions Peripheral regions of VKORC1 and VKORL1 primarily maintain the stability of their common warfarin-binding pocket, and differences of such interactions determine their relative sensitivity to warfarin inhibition. This new model also explains most WR mutations located at the peripheral regions of VKORC1.

Abstract
microRNA-1 (miR-1) is a well-studied conservative microRNA (miRNA) involved in immune responses in mammals and insects. However, little is known about its role in pesticide resistance in arthropods. In this study, we found that a microRNA belong to miR-1 family (tci-miR-1-3p) was significantly down-regulated in a cyflumetofen-resistant strain (CYR) of Tetranychus cinnabarinus compared with its homologous susceptible strain (SS), indicating an involvement of miR-1 in cyflumetofen resistance in mites. One glutathione S-transferase (GST) gene (TCGSTM4, a mu class GST gene), a candidate target gene of tci-miR-1-3p, was found to be significantly down-regulated when tci-miR-1-3p was over-expressed. The specific interaction between tci-miR-1-3p and the target sequence in the 3' untranslated region of TCGSTM4 was confirmed. A decrease or increase in tci-miR-1-3p abundance through feeding miRNA inhibitors or mimics significantly increased or decreased TCGSTM4 expressions at the mRNA and protein levels, respectively. In addition, an over-expression of tci-miR-1-3p resulted in a decrease in the tolerance of T. cinnabarinus to cyflumetofen in both SS and CYR strains, and vice versa. After decreasing TCGSTM4 transcription via RNA interference, T. cinnabarinus became more sensitive to cyflumetofen in both resistant and susceptible mites, and the change in mortality was greater in CYR than that in SS. Moreover, the recombinant TCGSTM4 could significantly decompose cyflumetofen, indicating that TCGSTM4 is a functional gene responsible for cyflumetofen resistance in mites.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study was designed to clarify biological changes of cranial base synchondrosis chondrocytes (CBSCs) upon cyclic tensile strain (CTS) loading which simulated orthopaedic mechanical protraction on cranial base synchondroses (CBS). MATERIAL AND METHODS A two-step digestion method was used to isolate CBSCs obtained from 1-week-old Sprague Dawley rats. Immunohistochemical staining of type II collagen and Sox9 was conducted to identify chondrocytes. A CTS of 1 Hz and 10% elongation was applied to the second passage of CBSCs by FX-5000™ Tension System for 24 hours. The control group kept static at the same time. The expression levels of extracellular matrix (Acan, Col1a1, Col2a1 and Col10a1) and key regulatory factors (Sox9, Ihh and PTHrP) were detected by quantitative real-time RT-PCR. RESULTS Positive staining of type II collagen and Sox9 was detected in the isolated CBSCs. The relative expression level of Acan, Col2a1, Col10a1, Sox9 and Ihh in the CTS-loading group was 1.85-fold, 2.19-fold, 1.53-fold, 6.62-fold, and 1.39-fold, respectively, as much as that in the control group, which had statistical significance (P<.05). There was no statistical difference (P>.05) in the expression of Col1a1 and PTHrP. CONCLUSIONS A CTS of 1 Hz and 10% elongation for 24 hours had positive effects on chondrocyte proliferation, phenotype maintenance and cartilage matrix synthesis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the regional homogeneity (ReHo) of resting-state brain function in the healthy subjects of gastric distention treated with acupuncture at the back-shu and front-mu points of the stomach, Weishu (BL 21) and Zhongwan (CV 12) and the correlation with gastric motility so as to explore the mechanism on the central integration of the front-mu and back-shu points of the stomach. METHODS The crossover test design was adopted. Twenty-four healthy subjects were assigned to a Weishu group, a Zhongwan group and a combined-point group separately, 8 cases in each one in each of the three times. Totally, 24 subjects were included in each group. Under the water load condition, the subjects received acupuncture at Weishu (BL 21), Zhongwan (CV 12) and the combined Weishu (BL 21) and Zhongwan (CV 12). Before and after each acupuncture, the resting-state brain functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scan and electrogastrogram (EGG) test were applied. The ReHo value was calculated in the collected fMRI imaging data. The changes in ReHo values were analyzed and compared before and after acupuncture in each group, as well as among the groups. The gastric motility was analyzed before and after acupuncture. Additionally, the correlative analysis was conducted between the gastric motility and ReHo changes before and after acupuncture. RESULTS (1) After acupuncture, EGG amplitudes in the subjects of each group were lower remarkably as compared with those before acupuncture (all P<0.01). The EGG frequencies were not different significantly as compared with those before acupuncture (all P>0.05). The EGG amplitudes in the Weishu group and the Zhongwan group were higher than those in the combined-point group (both P<0.05). (2) As compared with the conditions before acupuncture, acupuncture at the combined front-mu and the back-shu points as well as Weishu (BL 21) and Zhongwan (CV 12) separately all induced the changes in the brain ReHo. Acupuncture at the combined front-mu and the back-shu points significantly increased Reho values in the right inferior temporal gyrus, the left thalamus, the precuneus and the posterior cingulate gyrus (all P<0.05) and remarkably reduced the ReHo values in the the middle temporal gyrus of the right temporal pole, sulcus calcarinus and precuneus (all P<0.05). Compared with the single point groups, acupuncture at the combined front-mu and the back-shu points induced the increase of ReHo value in the posterior cingulate gyrus and the decrease of ReHo in the temporal pole (all P<0.05). (3) The correlative analysis showed that the changes in the ReHo values in the posterior cingulate gyrus, the thalamus and the precuneus were positively correlated to the changes of the gastric motility amplitudes. The changes in the ReHo values in the temporal pole was negatively correlated to the changes of the gastric motility amplitudes. CONCLUSION Acupuncture at the combined back-shu and front-mu points of the stomach, as well as acupuncture at single Weishu (BL 21) and Zhongwan (CV 12) induce the ReHo changes in the different brain regions. Acupuncture at the combined back-shu and front-mu points of the stomach may induce the ReHo changes in some new brain regions as compared with the acupuncture at the single point. The thalamus, the posterior cingulate gyrus and the precuneus may be the the important integrated brain regions for acupuncture at the back-shu and the front-mu points in regulating the gastric motility. The effects of acupuncture at the back-shu and the front-mu points for the regulation of the gastric motility are closely related to the thalamus, the limbic system and the default network of the brain regions.

Abstract
Hemangioma is the most common vascular tumor in infantile period, and propranolol is the first choice, but there are still a few patients with poor curative effect. Seven cases of infant parotid hemangioma with no response to oral propranolol were treated with transcatheter arterial sclerosing embolization combined with cortisol and satisfactory results achievod. The treatment and efficacy are disccused in this paper.

Abstract
The aim of this research was to investigate how exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) alleviates cadmium (Cd) toxicity in purple flowering stalk (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis) and evaluate whether it could be a potential choice for phytoremediation. Purple flowering stalk seedlings were cultivated in a hydroponic system with Cd at various concentrations (0-100 μmol L-1) as controls and Cd plus ABA as the treatment in the growth media. The soluble proteins, chlorophyll contents and the activity of the antioxidant enzyme system were determined by previously established biochemical methods. The contents of soluble protein and chlorophyll, and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1. 15.1.1), peroxidase (POD, EC 1.11.1.7), ascorbic peroxidase (APX, EC 1.11.1.11), glutathione reductase (GR, EC 1.8.1.7) and superoxide anion (O2·-) increased with the increase of external Cd concentrations, and then decreased in both Cd and Cd+ABA treatments, with higher activities of enzymes but lower level of O2·- in Cd+ABA than those in Cdonly treatments. It indicated that a stress adaptation mechanism was employed at lower Cd concentrations. The contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), increased with the increase of Cd concentrations in the growth medium, with the highest levels in the treatment of 100 μmol L-1 Cd with lower levels in respective Cd+ABAtreatments than the Cd only treatmetns. Plants treated with 100 μmol L-1 Cd plus ABA showed a 60% decrease in Cd content in the leaves but a 259% increase in Cd content in the roots. In summary, exogenous ABA might alleviate Cd toxicity in purple flowering stalk mainly by reducing the reactive oxygen species (ROS) though activing the antioxidant enzyme system and accumulating more Cd in roots.
