Abstract
Background Individuals with genetic neurodevelopmental disorders (GNDs) or intellectual disability (ID) are often affected by complex neuropsychiatric comorbidities. Targeted treatments are increasingly available, but due to the heterogeneity of these patient populations, choosing a key outcome and corresponding outcome measurement instrument remains challenging. Objectives The aim of this scoping review was to describe the research on outcomes and instruments used in clinical trials in GNDs and ID. Eligibility criteria Clinical trials in individuals with GNDs and ID for any intervention over the past 10 years were included in the review. Sources of evidence MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and Cochrane CENTRAL were searched. Titles and abstracts were independently screened for eligibility with a subsample of 10% double-screening for interrater reliability. Data from full texts were independently reviewed. Discrepancies were discussed until consensus was reached. Charting methods Information was recorded on patient populations, interventions, designs, outcomes, measurement instruments, and type of reporter when applicable. Qualitative and descriptive analyses were performed. Results We included 312 studies reporting 91 different outcomes, with cognitive function most frequently measured (28%). Various outcome measurement instruments (n = 457) were used, with 288 in only a single clinical trial. There were 18 genetic condition-specific instruments and 16 measures were designed ad-hoc for one particular trial. Types of report included proxy-report (39%), self-report (22%), clinician-report (16%), observer-report (6%), self-assisted report (1%), or unknown (16%). Conclusion This scoping review of current practice reveals a myriad of outcomes and outcome measurement instruments for clinical trials in GNDs and ID. This complicates generalization, evidence synthesis, and evaluation. It underlines the need for consensus on suitability, validity, and relevancy of instruments, ultimately resulting in a core outcome set. A series of steps is proposed to move from the myriad of measures to a more unified approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sickle cell disease (SCD) is characterized by vaso-occlusive crises (VOCs) that impair the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of hospitalization for VOCs on HRQoL in children with SCD over time. METHODS In this longitudinal cohort study, children aged 8-18 years diagnosed with SCD at the Amsterdam UMC were included between 2012 and 2021. HRQoL was annually measured as part of standard care using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory. The impact of hospitalization for VOC on HRQoL was evaluated using linear mixed models 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after hospitalization. The effect of frequency of hospitalization for VOC on HRQoL was evaluated over the last 12 months. RESULTS In total, 94 children with SCD were included with a median age of 11.8 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 9-14). Thirty-seven patients (39%) had been hospitalized for a VOC. Hospitalization for VOC led to a decrease of 3.2-4.8 points in total HRQoL compared to patients without hospitalization, most pronounced 3 months after hospitalization. Recurrent admission for VOC in the last 12 months was associated with a decrease of 2.3 points in total HRQoL (p = .04). The most affected subscale was physical functioning. CONCLUSION The adverse effects of hospitalization for VOC in children with SCD persist up to 12 months after hospitalization. After hospitalization for VOC, extra attention and support for its negative impact on HRQoL are recommended. This study also underlines the importance of systematically measuring HRQoL, allowing clinicians to intervene accordingly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) is associated with a relapsing-remitting course that can be stressful for parents. As little is known of parental distress at the first onset of SSNS, this study aims to describe parental distress and everyday problems in mothers and fathers of a child with newly diagnosed SSNS participating in a randomized controlled trial of levamisole added to corticosteroids. METHODS To assess distress, the Distress Thermometer for Parents (DT-P) was used, which includes questions on distress (thermometer score 0-10, ≥ 4 "clinical distress") and presence of everyday problems in six domains: practical, social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and parenting. The DT-P was completed 4 weeks after the onset of SSNS. Total sum and individual items of everyday problems were compared with reference data from mothers and fathers of the Dutch general population. RESULTS There was no difference in clinically elevated parental distress between SSNS mothers (n = 37) and fathers (n = 25) and reference parents. Compared to reference fathers, fathers of a child with SSNS scored significantly higher on emotional problems (P = 0.030), while mothers experienced more parenting problems (P = 0.002). Regression analyses showed that lower parental age and having a girl with SSNS were significantly associated with more practical problems and higher distress thermometer scores, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Four weeks after onset, SSNS mothers and fathers experience equal distress as reference parents. However, both parents endorsed significantly more everyday problems. Therefore, monitoring parental distress, even in the first weeks of the disease, could contribute to timely interventions and prevent worsening of problems. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Successful antiviral therapy has transformed HIV infection into a chronic condition, where optimising quality of life (QoL) has become essential for successful lifelong treatment. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can signal potential physical and mental health problems related to QoL. This study aims to determine whether PROMs in routine clinical care improve quality of care as experienced by people with HIV (PWH). METHODS AND ANALYSIS We report the protocol of a multicentre longitudinal cohort studying PWH at Amsterdam University Medical Centres in the Netherlands. PROMs are offered annually to patients via the patient portal of the electronic health record. Domains include anxiety, depression, fatigue, sleep disturbances, social isolation, physical functioning, stigma, post-traumatic stress disorder, adherence, drug and alcohol use and screening questions for sexual health and issues related to finances, housing and migration status. Our intervention comprises (1) patients' completion of PROMs, (2) discussion of PROMs scores during annual consultations and (3) documentation of follow-up actions in an individualised care plan, if indicated. The primary endpoint will be patient-experienced quality of care, measured by the Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care, Short Form (PACIC-S). Patients will provide measurements at baseline, year 1 and year 2. We will explore change over time in PACIC-S and PROMs scores and examine the sociodemographical and HIV-specific characteristics of subgroups of patients who participated in all or only part of the intervention to ascertain whether benefit has been achieved from our intervention in all subgroups. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Patients provide consent for the analysis of data collected as part of routine clinical care to the AIDS Therapy Evaluation in the Netherlands study (ATHENA) cohort through mechanisms described in Boender et al. Additional ethical approval for the analysis of these data is not required under the ATHENA cohort protocol. The results will be presented at national and international academic meetings and submitted to peer-reviewed journals for publication.

Abstract
This study assessed HRQoL and emotional and behavioral difficulties (EBD) and associated variables in children with first onset SSNS. While relapsing steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) in children is associated with lower health-related quality of life (HRQoL), little is known about first onset. Four weeks after onset, children (2-16 years) and/or their parents who participated in a randomized placebo-controlled trial, completed the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL) and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to measure HRQoL and EBD, respectively. Total and subscale scores and the proportion of children with impaired HRQoL (> 1 SD below the mean of the reference group) or SDQ clinical scores (< 10th and > 90th percentile) were compared to the Dutch general population (reference group). Regression analyses were used to identify associated variables. Compared to the reference group, children 8-18 years reported significantly lower total HRQoL, and physical and emotional functioning. A large proportion (> 45%) of these children had impaired HRQoL. There were no differences in HRQoL between children 2-7 years and the reference group, except for higher scores on social functioning (5-7 years). Similar proportions of SSNS and reference children scored within the clinical range of SDQ subscales. Age, sex, and steroid side-effects were negatively associated with HRQol and/or EBD. Conclusion: This study showed that HRQoL and EBD are affected in children of different ages with first onset SSNS. This calls for more awareness from healthcare providers and routinely monitoring of HRQoL and EBD in daily clinical care to prevent worsening of symptoms. Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess internalizing problems before and during the pandemic with data from Dutch consortium Child and adolescent mental health and wellbeing in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, consisting of two Dutch general population samples (GS) and two clinical samples (CS) referred to youth/psychiatric care. Measures of internalizing problems were obtained from ongoing data collections pre-pandemic (NGS = 35,357; NCS = 4487) and twice during the pandemic, in Apr-May 2020 (NGS = 3938; clinical: NCS = 1008) and in Nov-Dec 2020 (NGS = 1489; NCS = 1536), in children and adolescents (8-18 years) with parent (Brief Problem Monitor) and/or child reports (Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System®). Results show that, in the general population, internalizing problems were higher during the first peak of the pandemic compared to pre-pandemic based on both child and parent reports. Yet, over the course of the pandemic, on both child and parent reports, similar or lower levels of internalizing problems were observed. Children in the clinical population reported more internalizing symptoms over the course of the pandemic while parents did not report differences in internalizing symptoms from pre-pandemic to the first peak of the pandemic nor over the course of the pandemic. Overall, the findings indicate that children and adolescents of both the general and clinical population were affected negatively by the pandemic in terms of their internalizing problems. Attention is therefore warranted to investigate long-term effects and to monitor if internalizing problems return to pre-pandemic levels or if they remain elevated post-pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare and complex genetic disorder, associated with tumor growth in various organ systems, epilepsy, and a range of neuropsychiatric manifestations including intellectual disability. With improving patient-centered care and targeted therapies, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are needed to measure the impact of TSC manifestations on daily functioning. The aim of this study was to develop a TSC-specific PROM for adults that captures the impact of TSC on physical functions, mental functions, activity and participation, and the social support individuals with TSC receive, called the TSC-PROM. METHODS COSMIN methodology was used to develop a self-reported and proxy-reported version. Development and validation consisted of the following studies: PROM development, content validity, structural validity, internal consistency, and construct validity. The International Classification of Functioning and Disability was used as a framework. Content validity was examined by a multidisciplinary expert group and cognitive interview study. Structural and construct validity, and internal consistency were examined in a large cohort, using confirmatory factor analysis, hypotheses testing, and Cronbach's alpha. RESULTS The study resulted in an 82-item self version and 75-item proxy version of the TSC-PROM with four subscales (physical functions 18 and 19 items, mental functions 37 and 28 items, activities and participation 13 and 14 items, social support 13 items, for self version and proxy version respectively). Sufficient results were found for structural validity with sufficient unidimensionality for each subscale. With regard to construct validity, 82% of the hypotheses were met for the self version and 59% for the proxy version. The PROM showed good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha 0.78-0.97). CONCLUSIONS We developed a PROM for adults with TSC, named TSC-PROM, showing sufficient evidence for reliability and validity that can be used in clinical and research settings to systematically gain insight into their experiences. It is the first PROM in TSC that addresses the impact of specific TSC manifestations on functioning, providing a valuable, patient-centered addition to the current clinical outcomes.

Abstract
Background The use of patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) is important in hemophilia care, as it facilitates communication between patients and clinicians and promotes patient-centered care. Currently, a variety of PROMs with insufficient psychometric properties are used. Patient-reported outcomes measurement information system (PROMIS) measures, including Computer Adaptive Tests, were designed to measure generically and more efficiently and, therefore, are an alternative for the existing PROMs. Objectives To assess the feasibility, measurement properties, and outcomes of 8 PROMIS pediatric measures for boys with hemophilia. Methods In this multicenter study, boys with hemophilia completed 8 PROMIS measures and 2 legacy instruments. Feasibility was determined by the number of completed items and floor or ceiling effects (percentage of participants that achieved the lowest or highest possible score). Reliability was assessed as the percentage of scores with a SE ≤ 4.5. Construct validity was evaluated by comparing the PROMIS measures with the legacy instruments. Mean PROMIS T-scores were calculated and compared with the Dutch general population. Results In total, 77 boys with hemophilia participated. Reliability was good for almost all PROMIS measures and legacy instruments. The total number of completed items varied from 49 to 90 for the PROMIS pediatric measures, while the legacy instruments contained 117 to 130 items. Floor and ceiling effects were observed in both the PROMIS measures (0-39.5%) and legacy instruments (0-66.7%), but were higher for the legacy instruments. Conclusions The PROMIS pediatric measures are feasible to use for boys with hemophilia. With the use of the PROMIS measures in clinical care and research, a step toward worldwide standardization of PROM administration can be taken.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Classical galactosemia (CG), an inborn error of galactose metabolism, results in long-term complications including cognitive impairment and movement disorders, despite early diagnosis and dietary treatment. Two decades ago, lower motor-, cognitive- and social health related quality of life (HRQoL) was demonstrated in pediatric and adult patients. Since then, the diet has been relaxed, newborn screening was implemented and new international guidelines resulted in major changes in follow-up. The aim of this study was to assess HRQoL of CG by means of online self- and/or proxy-HRQoL-questionnaires focusing on the main areas of concern of CG (i.e. anxiety, depression, cognition, fatigue, social- and upper extremity function) within the patient-reported outcomes measurement information system (PROMIS®) and generic HRQoL-questionnaires (TAPQOL, TACQOL, TAAQOL). RESULTS Data of 61 Dutch patients (aged 1-52 years) were collected and compared to available Dutch or US reference populations. On the PROMIS-questionnaires, children reported more fatigue (P = 0.044), lower function in upper extremities (P = 0.021), more cognitive difficulties (P = 0.055, d = 0.56) and higher anxiety (P = 0.063, d = 0.52) than reference children although the latter findings remained non-significant. Parents of CG patients reported lower quality of peer relationships of their children (P < 0.001). Both children and parents reported lower cognitive functioning (P = 0.005, P = 0.010) on the TACQOL. Adults reported on PROMIS domains lower cognitive functioning (P = 0.030), higher anxiety (P = 0.004) and more fatigue (P = 0.026). Cognitive difficulties were reported on the TAAQOL by adults (P < 0.001), as well as physical-, sleeping and social difficulties. CONCLUSIONS CG remains to impact the HRQoL of pediatric and adult patients negatively on several domains including cognition, anxiety, motor function and fatigue. A lower social health was mainly reported by parents, and not by patients themselves. The Covid-19 pandemic might have amplified the results on anxiety although higher levels of anxiety fit pre-pandemic findings. The reported fatigue is a new finding in CG. Because the effect of lockdown fatigue could not be eliminated and fatigue is a frequent finding in patients with chronic disorders, future studies are warranted. Clinicians and researchers should be attentive to both pediatric and adult patients, and the age-dependent difficulties they might encounter.

Abstract
Background The COVID-19 pandemic has had an acute impact on child mental and social health, but long-term effects are still unclear. We examined how child mental health has developed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic up to 2 years into the pandemic (April 2022). Methods We included children (age 8-18) from two general population samples (N = 222-1333 per measurement and N = 2401-13,362 for pre-covid data) and one clinical sample receiving psychiatric care (N = 334-748). Behavioral questionnaire data were assessed five times from April 2020 till April 2022 and pre-pandemic data were available for both general population samples. We collected parent-reported data on internalizing and externalizing problems with the Brief Problem Monitor and self-reported data on Anxiety, Depressive symptoms, Sleep-related impairments, Anger, Global health, and Peer relations with the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®). Results In all samples, parents reported overall increased internalizing problems, but no increases in externalizing problems, in their children. Children from the general population self-reported increased mental health problems from before to during the pandemic on all six PROMIS domains, with generally worst scores in April 2021, and scores improving toward April 2022 but not to pre-pandemic norms. Children from the clinical sample reported increased mental health problems throughout the pandemic, with generally worst scores in April 2021 or April 2022 and no improvement. We found evidence of minor age effects and no sex effects. Conclusions Child mental health in the general population has deteriorated during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, has improved since April 2021, but has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. Children in psychiatric care show worsening of mental health problems during the pandemic, which has not improved since. Changes in child mental health should be monitored comprehensively to inform health care and policy.

Abstract
Background Hemophilia care has improved greatly because of advances in treatment options and comprehensive care. In-depth insight into the perspectives of persons with hemophilia and health care providers on their care may provide targets for further improvements. Objectives To assess satisfaction of the hemophilia population with their care, to explore factors determining care satisfaction, and to identify areas for potential health care improvements, including digital health tools. Methods First, to assess care satisfaction and factors determining satisfaction and health care improvements, data from a nationwide, cross-sectional questionnaire among 867 adult and pediatric Dutch persons with hemophilia A or B were analyzed. This included the Hemophilia Patient Satisfaction Scale questionnaire, Canadian Hemophilia Outcomes Kids' Life Assessment Tool satisfaction questions, a visual analog scale satisfaction score, and open questions. Second, to further explore factors determining satisfaction and health care improvements, semistructured interviews were conducted with 19 persons with hemophilia or their parents and 18 health care providers. Results High care satisfaction was found, with an overall median Hemophilia Patient Satisfaction Scale score of 12 (IQR, 6-21). Participants in the interviews reported that patient-professional interactions, availability of care, and coordination of care were major factors determining satisfaction. Suggested health care improvements included improved information provision and coordination of care, especially shared care with professionals not working within comprehensive care centers. Participants suggested that digital health tools could aid in this. Conclusion Satisfaction with hemophilia care is high among persons with hemophilia in the Netherlands, although several potential improvements have been identified. Accentuating these is especially relevant in the current era of treatment innovations, in which we might focus less on other aspects of care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate neurocognitive, psychosocial, and quality of life (QoL) outcomes in children with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) seen 3-6 months after PICU admission. DESIGN National prospective cohort study March 2020 to November 2021. SETTING Seven PICUs in the Netherlands. PATIENTS Children with MIS-C (0-17 yr) admitted to a PICU. INTERVENTIONS None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS Children and/or parents were seen median (interquartile range [IQR] 4 mo [3-5 mo]) after PICU admission. Testing included assessment of neurocognitive, psychosocial, and QoL outcomes with reference to Dutch pre-COVID-19 general population norms. Effect sizes (Hedges' g ) were used to indicate the strengths and clinical relevance of differences: 0.2 small, 0.5 medium, and 0.8 and above large. Of 69 children with MIS-C, 49 (median age 11.6 yr [IQR 9.3-15.6 yr]) attended follow-up. General intelligence and verbal memory scores were normal compared with population norms. Twenty-nine of the 49 followed-up (59%) underwent extensive testing with worse function in domains such as visual memory, g = 1.0 (95% CI, 0.6-1.4), sustained attention, g = 2.0 (95% CI 1.4-2.4), and planning, g = 0.5 (95% CI, 0.1-0.9). The children also had more emotional and behavioral problems, g = 0.4 (95% CI 0.1-0.7), and had lower QoL scores in domains such as physical functioning g = 1.3 (95% CI 0.9-1.6), school functioning g = 1.1 (95% CI 0.7-1.4), and increased fatigue g = 0.5 (95% CI 0.1-0.9) compared with population norms. Elevated risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was seen in 10 of 30 children (33%) with MIS-C. Last, in the 32 parents, no elevated risk for PTSD was found. CONCLUSIONS Children with MIS-C requiring PICU admission had normal overall intelligence 4 months after PICU discharge. Nevertheless, these children reported more emotional and behavioral problems, more PTSD, and worse QoL compared with general population norms. In a subset undergoing more extensive testing, we also identified irregularities in neurocognitive functions. Whether these impairments are caused by the viral or inflammatory response, the PICU admission, or COVID-19 restrictions remains to be investigated.

Abstract
Patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) experience a considerable physical and psychosocial disease burden. In recent years, the application of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) to treat adults with SCD has increased. A thorough understanding of patients' physical, mental, and social health before and after cure is needed to meet the needs of this growing group of patients. We aimed to explore the perspectives of adult SCD patients on the changes in their experienced health and personal life goals after being cured. A mixed-methods approach was used, comprising a semistructured interview and a set of 9 Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) measures. Adult SCD patients who underwent HSCT at least 1 year earlier were eligible to participate in the study. Interviews were thematically analyzed using MAXQDA software. PROMIS T scores were compared with reference scores of the general population using SPSS Statistics. Ten patients participated in the study; their median age was 29.5 years (range, 19 to 49 years), and their median time since HSCT was 2.7 years (range, 1.0 to 3.5 years). Themes from the interviews were (1) pain/living pain free, (2) physical well-being, (3) mental well-being, (4) perspective/ outlook, (5) education/work, (6) family/friends, and (7) activities/participation. Following the PROMIS framework, we described these themes in a narrative synthesis according to health domain and categorized in 4 chronological time phases: before HSCT, first year post-transplantation, current situation, and future expectations. Physical health improved greatly, but transplantation-related toxicity, ongoing pain from avascular osteonecrosis, and fatigue negatively impacted quality of life in some patients. Furthermore, emotional struggles during the post-transplantation period were common, and patients expressed a need for psychological help. Patients reported improvements in social health and the ability to pursue personal life goals. The mean T scores of all PROMIS measures fell within the normal symptom limits compared with reference data of the general population, although, large variations were observed among the participants, matching our qualitative findings. In general, adult SCD patients experienced improved physical, mental, and social health after cure by HSCT and were able to pursue personal life goals. Yet they found themselves confronted with a new and unfamiliar reality that brought different challenges. Pain due to irreversible avascular osteonecrosis continued to have a negative impact. Clinicians should aim to help patients have realistic expectations before transplantation and offer timely psychological care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the last decades, pediatric patient engagement has received growing attention and its importance is increasingly acknowledged. Pediatric patient engagement in health care can be defined as the involvement of children and adolescents in the decision-making of daily clinical care, research and intervention development. Although more attention is paid to pediatric patient engagement, a comprehensive overview of the activities that have been done regarding pediatric patient engagement and the changes over time is lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study is to provide an overview of the literature about pediatric patient engagement. METHODS The methodological framework of Arksey & O'Malley was used to conduct this scoping review. The bibliographic databases Medline, Embase, and PsycINFO were searched for eligible articles. All retrieved articles were screened by at least two researchers in two steps. Articles were included if they focused on pediatric patient engagement, were carried out in the context of clinical care in pediatrics, and were published as full text original article in English or Dutch. Data (year of publication, country in which the study was conducted, disease group of the participants, setting of pediatric patient engagement, used methods, and age of participants) were extracted, synthesized, and tabulated. RESULTS A total of 288 articles out of the 10,714 initial hits met the inclusion criteria. Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of studies that engage pediatric patients. Pediatric patients, especially patients with multiple conditions or oncology patients, were most involved in studies in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Pediatric patients were most often asked to express their views on questions from daily clinical care and the individual interview was the most used method. In general, the extent to which pediatric patients are engaged in health care increases with age. DISCUSSION This scoping review shows that there is an increasing interest in pediatric patient engagement. However, lack of uniformity about the definition of pediatric patient engagement and clear information for clinicians hinders engagement. This overview can inform clinicians and researchers about the different ways in which pediatric patient engagement can be shaped and can guide them to engage pediatric patients meaningfully in their projects.

Abstract
Survival rates in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for nonmalignant diseases have improved due to advances in conditioning regimens, donor selection, and prophylaxis and treatment of infections and graft-versus-host disease. Insight into the long-term patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after pediatric HSCT for nonmalignant disease is lacking but essential for optimal shared decision making, counseling, and quality of care. The purpose of this research was to determine long-term patient-reported outcomes in allogeneic pediatric HSCT for nonmalignant diseases and to compare these results with Dutch reference data. This single-center cohort study evaluated PROs (PedsQL 4.0, PROMIS item banks), self- or proxy-reported, among patients at ≥2 years after pediatric allogeneic HSCT for nonmalignant disease. Mean scores were compared with those of the Dutch general population. Of 171 eligible patients, 119 participated, for a 70% response rate. The median patient age was 15.8 years (range, 2 to 49 years), and the median duration of follow-up was 8.7 years (range, 2 to 34 years). Indications for HSCT included inborn errors of immunity (n = 41), hemoglobinopathies (n = 37), and bone marrow failure (n = 41). Compared with reference data, significantly lower scores were found in adolescents (age 13 to 17 years) on the Total, Physical Health, and School Functioning PedsQL subscales. Significantly more Sleep Disturbance was reported in children (age 8 to 18 years). On the other hand, significantly better scores were seen on PROMIS Fatigue (age 5 to 7 years) and Pain Interference (age 8 to 18 years) and, in adults (age 19 to 30 years), on Depressive Symptoms and Sleep Disturbance. This study showed better or comparable very long-term PROs in patients after pediatric HSCT for nonmalignant diseases compared with the reference population. Children and adolescents seem to be the most affected, indicating the need for supportive care to prevent impaired quality of life and, more importantly, to amplify their long-term well-being.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Surgery induced stress and anxiety in children and parents can be reduced by providing preoperative information adapted to their needs. Aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of three different information modalities (coloring page, mobile application and videos) to prepare children and their parents for day-care surgery on preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain experienced by the child, and preoperative anxiety and satisfaction of parents. METHODS Prospective observational study including children and their parents that were offered specifically developed information modalities to prepare for day-care surgery. Results were compared between children and their parents that used none (i.e., control group) versus one or more information modalities (i.e., intervention group). Primary outcomes were preoperative anxiety measured using PROMIS v2.0 Anxiety and postoperative pain in children. Secondary outcomes were preoperative parental anxiety (STAI questionnaire) and family satisfaction with information and communication (modified PedsQL Healthcare Satisfaction questionnaire). Subgroup analyses were performed between preschoolers (0-5 years) and school-aged (≥5) children. RESULTS 93 patients (male 53%) were included in the intervention (n=56) and control group (n=37). Levels of children's preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain, and parental anxiety did not differ between both groups. Families of prepared children were more satisfied with information and communication about preoperative surgical information (8 vs. 6.6, p=0.004) and satisfaction with how parents (7 vs 8, p=0.019) and children (8 vs 6, p=0.018) were prepared for surgery. CONCLUSIONS Preoperative anxiety did not differ between prepared and unprepared children. The use of specifically developed family-centered and age-appropriate information modalities to prepare children for day-care surgery at home results in superior family satisfaction. Abstract
PURPOSE The added value of measuring patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for delivering patient-centered care and assessment of healthcare quality is increasingly evident. However, healthcare system wide data collection initiatives are hampered by the proliferation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and conflicting data collection standards. As part of a national initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport we developed a consensus-based standard set of generic PROs and PROMs to be implemented across Dutch medical specialist care. METHODS A working group of mandated representatives of umbrella organizations involved in Dutch medical specialist care, together with PROM experts and patient organizations worked through a structured, consensus-driven co-creation process. This included literature reviews, online expert and working group meetings, and feedback from national patient- and umbrella organizations. The 'PROM-cycle' methodology was used to select feasible, valid, and reliable PROMs to obtain domain scores for each of the PROs included in the set. RESULTS Eight PROs across different domains of health were ultimately endorsed: symptoms (pain & fatigue), functioning (physical, social/participation, mental [anxiety & depression]), and overarching (quality of life & perceived overall health). A limited number of generic PROMs was endorsed. PROMIS short forms were selected as the preferred instruments for all PROs. Several recommendations were formulated to facilitate healthcare system level adoption and implementation of the standard set. CONCLUSIONS We developed a consensus-based standard set of Generic PROMs and a set of recommendations to facilitate healthcare system wide implementation across Dutch medical specialist care.

Abstract
AIM To assess whether infants with colic (IC) demonstrate persisting developmental dysregulation into childhood, manifested as behavioural problems, and to determine if these behavioural problems are associated with parenting factors. METHODS Preschool children with a history of IC at the age of 0-3 months, as defined by the Wessel criteria, were invited to participate in an observational follow-up study, in which their caregivers completed the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL). Raw scores and clinical-range scores on the internalising, externalising and total behavioural problems scales were compared with a Dutch normative sample using independent t-tests and Chi-square tests. For the clinical-range scores, multivariable logistic regressions (odds ratios [99% confidence interval, CI]) were used to adjust for confounders and to identify variables associated with behavioural problems. RESULTS Two hundred and fifty-eight children with a history of IC (median age 5.1 (interquartile range, IQR 4.6-5.5) years, 51.9% boys) were included. The cases had a significantly higher adjusted risk (adjusted odds ratios (aORs) [99% CI]) of scoring in the clinical range of the emotionally reactive, internalising and total problems scale (2.96 [1.24-7.06]; 2.50 [1.35-4.62]; 2.98 [1.46-6.07], respectively). Internalising (P < 0.001), externalising (P < 0.001) and total (P < 0.001) behavioural problems in children with a history of IC were associated with higher parenting stress scores. CONCLUSIONS Children with a history of IC demonstrated significantly more internalising behavioural problems at preschool age compared to the norm sample. Specific advice and support need to be available for parents to understand and regulate the behaviour of their child, from infancy to childhood.

Background
Congenital gastrointestinal malformation (CGIM) require neonatal surgical treatment and may lead to disease-specific sequelae, which have a potential psychological impact on parents. The aim of this study is to assess distress and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in parents of patients with CGIM. In this cross-sectional study, seventy-nine parents (47 mothers and 32 fathers) of 53 patients with CGIM completed the Distress Thermometer for Parents (DT-P) and the Self Rating Scale for Posttraumatic Stress Disorders (SRS-PTSD) as part of the multidisciplinary follow-up of their children (aged 5–35 months). Group differences were tested between parents and representative Dutch reference groups with regard to rates of (clinical) distress and PTSD, and severity of overall distress and PTSD, for mothers and fathers separately. Mixed model regression models were used to study factors associated with the risk of (clinical) distress, PTSD and with severity of symptoms of PTSD (intrusion, avoidance and hyperarousal).
Results
Prevalence of clinical distress was comparable to reference groups for mothers (46%) and fathers (34%). There was no difference in severity of overall distress between both mothers as well as fathers and reference groups. Prevalence of PTSD was significantly higher in mothers (23%) compared to the reference group (5.3%) (OR = 5.51, p < 0.001), not in fathers (6.3% vs 2.2.%). Symptoms of intrusion were commonly reported by all the parents (75%). Longer total length of child’s hospital stay was associated with more severe symptoms of intrusion, avoidance and hyperarousal. Child’s length of follow-up was negatively associated with severity of intrusion.
Conclusions
Having a child with CGIM has a huge impact on parents, demonstrated by a higher prevalence of PTSD in mothers, but not fathers, compared to parents in the general population. Monitoring of symptoms of PTSD of parents in follow-up is necessary.

Abstract
Background Parents of children with a rare progressive life-limiting illness are at risk for parental posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Studies on the treatment of parental PTSD with eye movement and desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy in pediatric practice are lacking. Therefore this study aims to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of time-limited EMDR therapy in reducing PTSD symptoms, comorbid psychological symptoms, distress, and parental stress. Methods Mono-center randomized clinical trial conducted between February 2020 and April 2021. Fourteen parents (N = 7 mothers, N = 7 fathers) of mucopolysaccharidosis type III patients reporting PTSD symptoms on a (sub)clinical level were assigned to EMDR or a wait-list control condition followed by EMDR. Four sessions of EMDR (each 90 min) divided over two half-days were offered. Measurements were conducted at baseline, post-treatment/post-waitlist, and 3-months post-treatment. The primary outcome was PTSD symptom severity (PTSD Check List for DSM-5). Secondary outcomes included comorbid psychological symptoms (Brief Symptom Inventory), distress (Distress Thermometer for Parents) and parenting stress (Parenting Stress Questionnaire). Between-group comparisons pre-to-post treatment (N = 7 EMDR vs. N = 7 wait-list) and within-group comparisons (EMDR, N = 14) from pre-to-post treatment and from pre-treatment to 3-months follow-up were carried out per intent-to-treat linear mixed model analyses. Results Compared to wait-list, EMDR resulted in a significant reduction on total PTSD symptom severity (d = 1.78) and on comorbid psychological symptoms, distress and parenting stress (d = .63–1.83). Within-group comparisons showed a significant effect on all outcomes at post-treatment (d = 1.04–2.21) and at 3-months follow-up (d = .96–2.30) compared to baseline. EMDR was well-tolerated, associated with a low drop-out rate, a high therapy adherence and no adverse events. Conclusion Time-limited EMDR reduces PTSD symptoms, psychological comorbidity, distress and parenting stress in parents of children with a rare progressive life-limiting illness. This treatment was feasible for these overburdened parents. Recurrent monitoring of PTSD symptoms, and, if needed, offering this time-limited type of trauma treatment should be introduced in everyday pediatric practice. Abstract
INTRODUCTION A substantial proportion of individuals infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), report persisting symptoms weeks and months following acute infection. Estimates on prevalence vary due to differences in study designs, populations, heterogeneity of symptoms and the way symptoms are measured. Common symptoms include fatigue, cognitive impairment and dyspnoea. However, knowledge regarding the nature and risk factors for developing persisting symptoms is still limited. Hence, in this study, we aim to determine the prevalence, severity, risk factors and impact on quality of life of persisting symptoms in the first year following acute SARS-CoV-2 infection. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The LongCOVID-study is both a prospective and retrospective cohort study being conducted in the Netherlands, with a one year follow-up. Participants aged 5 years and above, with self-reported positive or negative tests for SARS-CoV-2 will be included in the study. The primary outcome is the prevalence and severity of persistent symptoms in participants that tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 compared with controls. Symptom severity will be assessed for fatigue (Checklist Individual Strength (CIS subscale fatigue severity)), pain (Rand-36/SF-36 subscale bodily pain), dyspnoea (Medical Research Council (mMRC)) and cognitive impairment (Cognitive Failure Questionnaire (CFQ)). Secondary outcomes include effect of vaccination prior to infection on persistent symptoms, loss of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and risk factors for persisting symptoms following infection with SARS-CoV-2. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The Utrecht Medical Ethics Committee (METC) declared in February 2021 that the Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act (WMO) does not apply to this study (METC protocol number 21-124/C). Informed consent is required prior to participation in the study. Results of this study will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Abstract
Background Engaging patients in health care, research and policy is essential to improving patient‐important health outcomes and the quality of care. Although the importance of patient engagement is increasingly acknowledged, clinicians and researchers still find it difficult to engage patients, especially paediatric patients. To facilitate the engagement of children and adolescents in health care, the aim of this project is to develop an engagement game. Methods A user‐centred design was used to develop a patient engagement game in three steps: (1) identification of important themes for adolescents regarding their illness, treatment and hospital care, (2) evaluation of the draft version of the game and (3) testing usability in clinical practice. Adolescents (12–18 years) were engaged in all steps of the development process through focus groups, interviews or a workshop. These were audio‐recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed in MAXQDA. Results (1) The important themes for adolescents (N = 15) were included: visiting the hospital, participating, disease and treatment, social environment, feelings, dealing with staff, acceptation, autonomy, disclosure and chronically ill peers. (2) Then, based on these themes, the engagement game was developed and the draft version was evaluated by 13 adolescents. Based on their feedback, changes were made to the game (e.g., adjusting the images and changing the game rules). (3) Regarding usability, the pilot version was evaluated positively. The game helped adolescents to give their opinion. Based on the feedback of adolescents, some last adjustments (e.g., changing colours and adding a game board) were made, which led to the final version of the game, All Voices Count. Conclusions Working together with adolescents, All Voices Count, a patient engagement game was developed. This game provides clinicians with a tool that supports shared decision‐making to address adolescents' wishes and needs. Patient or Public Contribution Paediatric patients, clinicians, researchers, youth panel of Fonds NutsOhra and patient associations (Patient Alliance for Rare and Genetic Diseases, Dutch Childhood Cancer Organization) were involved in all phases of the development of the patient engagement game—from writing the project plan to the final version of the game.

Abstract
Objective Faster and cheaper next generation sequencing technologies have enabled expansion of carrier screening for recessive disorders, potentially facilitating population‐based implementation regardless of ancestry or family history. Little is known, however, about the attitudes regarding population‐based carrier screening among families with genetic disorders. This study assessed views among parents and patients with a recessive disorder and parents of children with Down syndrome (DS) on expanded carrier screening (ECS). Method In total, 85 patients with various recessive disorders, 110 parents of a child with a recessive disorder and 89 parents of a child with DS participated in an online survey in the Netherlands. Severity of recessive disorders was classified as mild/moderate or severe/profound. Results The majority of the (parents of) patients with a recessive disorder had a positive attitude towards population‐based ECS, including screening for their own or their child's disorder. DS parents were significantly less positive towards ECS. Subgroup analyses showed that the severity of the disorder, rather than being a patient or parent, influences the attitudes, beliefs and intention to participate in ECS. Conclusion Our findings have important implications for future implementation initiatives as they demonstrate the different perspectives from people with experiential knowledge with genetic disorders.

Abstract
This study's aim is to evaluate the psychometric properties of the pediatric Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) sleep disturbance (SD), sleep-related impairment (SRI), and fatigue item banks in Dutch children and adolescents since they are yet to be validated in this population. Children and adolescents aged 8-18 years old (n = 1,325), representative of the Dutch general population, were invited. The following psychometric properties of both item banks were assessed: structural validity by fitting a graded response model (GRM) for which assumptions were checked and assessing item fit, reliability, and efficiency for the full-length item bank, short forms, and computerized adaptive test (CAT). Mean T scores and cutoff scores for mild, moderate, and severe scores were determined. A total of 527 children (response rate 39.7%) were included. SD did not meet the assumption of unidimensionality. The SRI and fatigue item banks showed sufficient structural validity. Three items showed GRM misfit; SRI item w026c and fatigue items 3224R1r and 4191R1r. Both item banks measured reliable (> .90) at the mean of the population and 2SD in the clinical direction. CATs outperformed short forms in efficiency. Mean T scores for the Dutch population were: SRI 47.5 (SD = 10.0) and fatigue 39.8 (SD = 12.4). Cutoffs included SRI minimal ≥ 34.7, moderate ≥ 55.6, severe ≥ 63.2 and fatigue minimal ≥ 23.9, moderate ≥ 49.9, severe ≥ 61.3. PROMIS pediatric SRI and fatigue item banks, short forms, and CAT showed sufficient structural validity and reliability in the Dutch population. Dutch reference values are provided. Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to link scores of the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale short version (RCADS-25) to the metric of the PROMIS pediatric item banks Anxiety and Depressive Symptoms in a general Dutch population sample. METHODS The RCADS-25 and PROMIS pediatric item banks Anxiety and Depressive Symptoms were administered online to 2,893 Dutch children and adolescents aged 8-18. Assumptions for linking methods were checked. Linking was achieved by using three item response theory (IRT) and two equipercentile methods. For each method, the observed PROMIS metric scores were compared to the ones predicted from the RCADS-25 subscale scores using correlations, mean and SD of differences, and RMSD. RESULTS The assumptions for IRT-based and equipercentile linking were met. The IRT-based method using separate calibration with Stocking-Lord constants was considered the optimal choice for linking both RCADS-25 subscales to the PROMIS metric. Based on this Stocking-Lord approach, we created item parameters for RCADS-25 items and two crosswalk tables. CONCLUSION The RCADS-25 item parameters and crosswalk tables presented in this study are sufficiently valid. Researchers can use these products to translate the RCADS-25 anxiety and depression subscales scores to the PROMIS metric in order to ensure comparability with the previous research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to describe the longitudinal development of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and fatigue in children with chronic intestinal failure (CIF) on home parenteral nutrition (PN) and compare these children to the general population. METHODS Prospective, observational study conducted over 7 years in patients suffering from CIF receiving home PN from 2 tertiary hospitals in the Netherlands. Every 6 months, parents (if child <8 years old) or patients (if child ≥8 years old) completed 2 questionnaires: Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL) Generic and Fatigue on the KLIK (kwaliteit van leven in kaart [Dutch Acronym for Quality of Life in Clinical Practice]) Patient Reported Outcome Measures portal, which were compared with the general population. Linear mixed models (LMMs) were constructed to investigate the course of HRQOL over time. RESULTS Thirty-five patients were included (40% girls). At time of last KLIK contact, patients received HPN for a median of 5.3 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 2.9-9.7). In total, 272 questionnaires were completed. PedsQL generic total score for ages 5 to 7 and 8 to 12 years was significantly lower than the general population (P < 0.01 for both age groups) with effect sizes of 0.73 and 0.71, respectively. PedsQL fatigue total score for ages 5 to 7 years was also significantly lower (P = 0.01; effect size 0.70). LMMs for PedsQL Generic and Fatigue total score 2 to 7 and 8 to 18 years showed no significant coefficient for duration of home PN. CONCLUSIONS Children suffering from CIF receiving home PN ages 5 to 12 years report lower HRQOL scores than the general population. HRQOL and fatigue do not change during long-term treatment with home PN in these children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in young children with sickle cell disease living in a European country. METHODS A retrospective cross-sectional evaluation of TNO-AZL Preschool Children Quality of Life questionnaire (TAPQOL, 0-1 year) and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL, 2-7 years) data was conducted. Study participants included caregivers of children with sickle cell disease aged 0-7 years attending the sickle cell centre at the Erasmus Medical Center or the Amsterdam University Medical Centers between April 2012 and October 2020. Comparisons were made with normative data on HRQoL in the general paediatric population. RESULTS The study enrolled 136 caregivers of 136 children. In children aged 0-5 years, no significant differences emerged between children with sickle cell disease and the general population. However, in children aged 5-7 years, children with sickle cell disease scored significantly lower on all subscales except for emotional functioning. Multiple regression models showed a negative association between age and HRQoL. No association was found between HRQoL and disease severity or sociodemographic characteristics. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that HRQoL is negatively correlated with age in young children with sickle cell disease with a significantly lower HRQoL in 5- to 7-year-olds when compared to the general population. Our study underlines the importance of measuring HRQoL in young children to identify patients with impaired HRQoL early in life in order to be able to intervene accordingly. Future research should focus on deepening the knowledge of factors influencing HRQoL in children with sickle cell disease.

Abstract
PURPOSE Parents of infants admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) experience additional stress due to restrictions on their presence and visits by other family members during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study aims to describe how this impacted parents and how NICU staff could support them. DESIGN AND METHODS This was a cross-sectional study in which 25 parents (16 mothers, 9 fathers) of infants admitted to our NICU during the first COVID-19 lockdown completed online questionnaires with socio-demographic questions, the Parental Stressor Scale:NICU (PSS:NICU) and questions related to COVID-19. RESULTS Being separated from, and not being able to hold their infant at all times were among the most important PSS:NICU stressors. Parents experienced additional stress because other family members were not allowed to visit. They indicated that NICU staff could support them by clearly explaining the reasons for visitor restrictions and by ensuring that they felt heard. Most parents supported the restrictions, but also mentioned that less strict measures would really help them. CONCLUSIONS Parents who participated in this study found it very stressful that they could not be with their infant together with their partner and other family members. Furthermore, parents recommended the hospital management to continuously reconsider whether particular restrictions could be lifted in case of a new lockdown. Together with clear communication, this would result in less parenteral stress. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Hospital management should be cautious on restricting the presence of parents and other family members and scale restrictions back whenever possible.

Abstract
Introduction: Patient-reported Experience Measures (PREMs) are validated questionnaires, that gather patients' and families' views of their experience receiving care and are commonly used to measure the quality of care, with the goal to make care more patient and family-centered. PREMs are increasingly being adopted in pediatric population, however knowledge gaps exist around understanding the use of PREMs in pediatrics. Objective: To identify and synthesize evidence on the use of PREMs in pediatric healthcare settings and their characteristics. Evidence Review: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines governed the conduct and reporting of this review. An exhaustive search strategy was applied to MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL databases to identify relevant peer-reviewed articles from high-income countries. Additionally, gray literature was searched to capture real-world implementation of PREMs. All the articles were screened independently by two reviewers in two steps. Data was extracted independently, synthesized, and tabulated. Findings from gray literature was synthesized and reported separately. Risk of bias for the studies identified through scientific databases was assessed independently by two reviewers using the National Institutes of Health Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort and Cross-Sectional Studies. Results: The initial search identified 15,457 articles. After removing duplicates, the title and abstracts of 11,543 articles were screened. Seven hundred ten articles were eligible for full-text review. Finally, 83 articles met the criteria and were included in the analyses. Of the 83 includes studies conducted in 14 countries, 48 were conducted in USA, 25 in European countries and 10 in other countries. These 83 studies reported on the use of 39 different PREMs in pediatric healthcare settings. The gray literature retrieved 10 additional PREMs. The number of items in these PREMs ranged from 7 to 89. Twenty-three PREMs were designed to be completed by proxy, 10 by either pediatric patients or family caregivers, and 6 by pediatric patients themselves. Conclusion and Relevance: This comprehensive review is the first to systematically search evidence around the use of PREMs in pediatrics. The findings of this review can guide health administrators and researchers to use appropriate PREMs to implement patient and family-centered care in pediatrics.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION One-stop surgery (OSS) allows for same-day outpatient clinic visit, preoperative assessment, and surgical repair. This study aims to determine the efficiency, (cost-)effectiveness, and family satisfaction of one-stop inguinal hernia surgery compared with usual care. MATERIAL AND METHODS Children (≥ 3 months) with inguinal hernia and American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grades I-II, scheduled for OSS (intervention) or regular treatment (control) between March 1, 2017, and December 1, 2018, were eligible for inclusion. Exclusion criteria consisted of age less than 3 months and ASA grades III-IV. The primary outcome measure was treatment efficiency (i.e., total number of hospital visits and waiting time [days] between referral and surgery). Secondary outcome measures were the effectiveness in terms of complication and recurrence rate, and parent-reported satisfaction and cost-effectiveness using the Dutch Pediatric Quality of Life Healthcare Satisfaction and Institute for Medical Technology Assessment Productivity Cost Questionnaire. RESULTS Ninety-one (intervention: 54; control: 37) patients (56% boys) were included. Median (interquartile range) number of hospital visits was lower in the intervention group (1 vs 3; p < 0.001). All but one of the OSS patients (98%) were discharged home on the day of surgery. Postoperative complication (1.9% vs 2.7%; p = 0.787) and recurrence rates (0% vs 2.7%; p = 0.407) did not differ between the intervention and control patients. "General satisfaction," "satisfaction with communication," and "inclusion of family" were higher after OSS, while satisfaction about "information," "technical skills," and "emotional needs" were similar. Median (range) follow-up was 28 (15-36) months. CONCLUSIONS Pediatric one-stop inguinal hernia repair seems to be an effective treatment strategy that limits the number of hospital visits and provides enhanced family satisfaction without compromising the quality of care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Legacy hemophilia-specific questionnaires are considered too long, show floor-/ceiling effects, and/or include irrelevant questions. Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) item banks, including Computer Adaptive Tests (CATs) and short forms, were designed for more efficient outcome assessment. OBJECTIVES Evaluate the feasibility, measurement properties, and relevance of seven PROMIS CATs and two short forms in patients with hemophilia. PATIENTS/METHODS In this cross-sectional study, Dutch adults with hemophilia completed nine PROMIS item banks electronically. Feasibility was assessed by number of items and floor/ceiling effects. Reliability was determined as the proportion of reliable scores (standard error ≤3.2). Construct validity was assessed by comparison with legacy instruments and expected differences between subgroups. Relevance of item banks was determined by proportions of limited scores. RESULTS Overall, 142 of 373 invited patients (mean age, 47 [range, 18-79], 49% severe hemophilia, 46% receiving prophylaxis) responded. Per CAT item bank, mean number of items answered varied from 5 (range, 3-12) to 9 (range, 5-12), with floor effects in pain interference (26% lowest scores) and depression (18% lowest scores). Construct validity and reliability were good for physical function, pain interference, satisfaction with social roles and activities, and fatigue. The CAT physical function showed the most limited scores (38%). The self-efficacy short forms showed ceiling effects (22%-28%) and no relation with the legacy instruments. CONCLUSIONS The PROMIS CATs physical function, pain interference, satisfaction with social roles and activities, and fatigue are feasible, reliable, and valid alternatives to legacy instruments for patients with hemophilia, with few items and low floor-/ceiling effects.

Abstract
Background Most children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) suffer from aberrant responses to sensory stimuli that significantly impact the quality of life. To develop sensory interventions, individually tailored outcome measures are crucially needed for the domain of sensory reactivity problems. Here, we describe the identification of relevant sensory themes according to caregivers of children with ASD according to the guidelines for developing a (parent proxy) patient-reported outcome measure set. Subsequently, we identify parallels between these themes and a well-validated and supported PROMIS® portal to facilitate implementation. Interviews with clinicians and focus groups and interviews with parents of children with ASD were used in the initial phase for concept elicitation. Codes and themes were generated by qualitative thematic data analysis on the transcripts and cognitive interviews with different parents were used for revisions. The resulting themes were compared to existing generic PROMIS-item banks and other existing questionnaires. Results A total of 11 parent-reported outcomes were identified that could be either classified as directly or indirectly related to sensory reactivity. Directly related themes comprised of: (1) sensory stimulation tolerance and (2) sensitivity to sensory stimuli. Indirectly related themes were: (3) irritable behavior (4) anxiety problems (5) mood problems (6) sleep problems (7) fatigue (8) physical complaints (9) daily functioning and participation (10) routines, structure and dealing with change and (11) problems in social interaction and communication. Seven out of 11 themes could be measured with generic PROMIS item banks. The four remaining outcomes (sensory stimulation tolerance; irritable behaviour; routines, structure and dealing with change; and sensitivity to sensory stimuli) were found suitable to be inventoried by existing PROMs. Conclusion The majority of parent-reported problems seemed related to indirect consequences of sensory reactivity, which are suitable to be measured with generic item banks. In sum, we identified a sensory-reactivity PROM (parent-proxy) set consisting of PROMIS® item banks and additional domains that together form a comprehensive and readily available outcome set for sensory reactivity problems in children with ASD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Profile-29 questionnaire is widely used worldwide, but it has not yet been validated in the Netherlands, nor in persons with hemophilia. OBJECTIVE To validate the Dutch-Flemish version of the PROMIS-29 Profile v2.01 in adults with hemophilia. METHODS Dutch males with hemophilia (all severities) completed questionnaires that contained sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, the PROMIS-29, RAND-36, and the Hemophilia Activities List (HAL). Structural validity of each subscale was assessed with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Internal consistency was calculated for each subscale with sufficient model fit in CFA. Construct validity was assessed by testing hypotheses about (1) correlations of each PROMIS-29 subscale with corresponding scales of RAND-36 and domains of HAL, and (2) mean differences in T-scores between subgroups with different hemophilia severities, self-reported joint impairment, and HIV infection status. We considered ≥75% of data in accordance with the hypotheses evidence for construct validity. RESULTS In total, 770 persons with hemophilia participated in this cross-sectional study. CFA revealed sufficient structural validity for five subscales: Physical Function, Depression, Sleep Disturbance, Ability to Participate in Social Roles and Activities, and Pain Interference. Internal consistency was high and Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.79 for Sleep Disturbance to 0.96 for Pain Interference. Differences between clinical subgroups were in the expected direction. Construct validity was confirmed for Physical Function, Anxiety, Depression, Fatigue, Sleep Disturbance, and Pain Intensity. CONCLUSION This study revealed sufficient evidence for structural validity, internal consistency, and construct validity for most PROMIS Profile-29 subscales among people with hemophilia in the Netherlands.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) develops condition-specific Standard Sets of outcomes to be measured in clinical practice for value-based healthcare evaluation. Standard Sets are developed by different working groups, which is inefficient and may lead to inconsistencies in selected PROs and PROMs. We aimed to identify common PROs across ICHOM Standard Sets and examined to what extend these PROs can be measured with a generic set of PROMs: the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®). METHODS We extracted all PROs and recommended PROMs from 39 ICHOM Standard Sets. Similar PROs were categorized into unique PRO concepts. We examined which of these PRO concepts can be measured with PROMIS. RESULTS A total of 307 PROs were identified in 39 ICHOM Standard Sets and 114 unique PROMs are recommended for measuring these PROs. The 307 PROs could be categorized into 22 unique PRO concepts. More than half (17/22) of these PRO concepts (covering about 75% of the PROs and 75% of the PROMs) can be measured with a PROMIS measure. CONCLUSION Considerable overlap was found in PROs across ICHOM Standard Sets, and large differences in terminology used and PROMs recommended, even for the same PROs. We recommend a more universal and standardized approach to the selection of PROs and PROMs. Such an approach, focusing on a set of core PROs for all patients, measured with a system like PROMIS, may provide more opportunities for patient-centered care and facilitate the uptake of Standard Sets in clinical practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Haemophilia carriers (HCs) face considerable haemostatic and psychological challenges during reproduction. AIM To explore the perspectives of HCs on healthcare in the current standard of haemophilia treatment during all reproductive phases: preconception, pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. In addition, we examined the psychological impact of haemophilia during these phases. MATERIAL AND METHODS Focus group discussions (FGDs) and semi-structured interviews were conducted with HCs in January/February 2020 until data saturation was reached. All sessions were recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed by two independent researchers through thematic content analysis using MAXQDA® software. The results were then discussed within the research team until consensus was reached. The constructed themes were shared with and reviewed by the HCs. RESULTS Fifteen HCs were included in three FGDs and four interviews. Five central themes were constructed: (1) communication by healthcare professionals, (2) lack of knowledge, (3) feeling insecure, (4) autonomy and (5) family experiences with haemophilia. Desired improvements in care mainly concerned counselling during preconception and pregnancy. This included timely access to comprehensive information during each consecutive phase, acceptance of HCs' choices by healthcare providers and healthcare tailored to the HC's family experience with haemophilia. CONCLUSIONS In recent years, haemophilia treatment has seen major advances, which could impact general and reproductive care for HCs. HCs indicated that reproductive care would benefit from a more personal and informative approach. Healthcare professionals could use these insights to adapt their consultations to meet the needs of these women when they are preparing for having children.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The KLIK Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROM) portal ( www.hetklikt.nu ) has been implemented since 2011 in clinical practice in over 20 Dutch hospitals. Patients and/or parents complete PROMs before the outpatient consultation and answers are subsequently discussed by clinicians during consultation. This study aims to provide insight into patients' and parents' perspective on the use of the KLIK PROM portal in order to optimize its implementation in pediatric clinical practice. METHODS Patients (12-19 years) and parents (of children 0-19 years) from the Emma Children's Hospital were invited to participate. A mixed-method design was used; (1) Focus groups were held and analyzed using thematic analysis in psychology, (2) a questionnaire was sent out and analyzed using descriptive statistics. RESULTS (1) Eight patients and 17 parents participated. Patients mentioned that KLIK has an attractive layout. However, PROMs were sometimes considered irrelevant and repetitive. Parents valued that KLIK provides insight into their child's functioning, but they were not satisfied with the extent to which PROMs were discussed by clinicians. (2) 31 patients and 130 parents completed the questionnaire. Overall, patients and parents reported a satisfaction score of 7.9/10 and 7.3/10, respectively. 81% of patients and 74% of parents indicated that KLIK is easy to use. CONCLUSION Patients and parents are generally satisfied with KLIK, however, points of improvement were mentioned. These are currently being addressed by e.g., upgrading the KLIK website, implementing PROMIS item banks in KLIK to reduce irrelevancy and repetitiveness of PROMs, and implementation strategies to improve the discussion-rate. In this way, implementation of the KLIK PROM portal can be further optimized, with the ultimate goal to improve quality of care.

Abstract
Background To reduce the burden of completing Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), PROMIS® Computerized Adaptive Tests (CATs) are being implemented in pediatric clinical practice. We aimed to develop recommendations for visual feedback options for PROMIS CATs on individual item and domain score level as an evidence-based feedback recommendation for PROMIS CATs is lacking. Methods Focus groups were held with clinicians who use the KLIK PROM portal. Literature-based feedback options were provided to initiate group discussion. Data was analyzed using thematic coding method. Additionally, a questionnaire was sent out to assess patients’ (12-18y) and parents’ (child 0-18y) preference for individual item feedback. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results Six focus groups were held (N = 28 clinicians). Regarding individual item feedback, showing the complete item bank, with only responses to administered items in traffic light colors was preferred. For domain scores, line graphs were preferred, including numerical (T-)scores, reference and cut-off lines, and traffic light colors. Separate graphs per domain, ranked in order of importance and harmonization of directionality (‘higher = better’) were considered important. Questionnaire results (N = 31 patients/N = 131 parents) showed that viewing their own item responses was preferred above receiving no item feedback by 58.1% of the patients and 77.1% of the parents. Conclusions Based on the outcomes and after discussion with the Dutch-Flemish PROMIS National Center, recommendations for PROMIS CAT feedback options were developed. PROMIS CATs can now be used in clinical practice to help clinicians monitor patient outcomes, while reducing the burden of completing PROMs for patients significantly.

Abstract
Aim To compare Health‐Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) of paediatric patients with newly collected HRQOL data of the general Dutch population, explore responses to individual items and investigate variables associated with HRQOL. Methods Children (8–12y) and adolescents (13–17y) from the general population (N = 966) and from a paediatric population (N = 1209) completed the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM) online via the KLIK Patient‐Reported Outcome Measures portal. PedsQLTM scale scores were compared between groups with independent t tests, by age group and gender. Responses to PedsQLTM items were explored using descriptive analyses. Linear regression analyses were performed to determine which variables were associated with HRQOL. Results Paediatric patients reported worse HRQOL than the general population on all PedsQLTM scales (p ≤ .001, d = 0.20–1.03), except social functioning, and a high proportion reported problems on PedsQLTM items, for example, ‘I have trouble sleeping’. Younger age, female gender and school absence were negatively associated with HRQOL (β = −0.37–0.10, p ≤ .008). Conclusion Paediatric patients reported lower HRQOL than the general population, and school absence, female gender and younger age were associated with lower HRQOL. The results underline the importance to structurally monitor paediatric patients’ HRQOL in clinical practice to detect problems and offer the right help on time.

Abstract
This study aimed to validate the PROMIS® pediatric v2.0 Anger scale in the Dutch general population, provide reference data, and compare reliability and relative efficiency between the full-length scale, its short-form, computerized adaptive test (CAT), and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM) emotional functioning (EF) subscale scores. Children (N = 1,328), representative of the Dutch population, were asked to complete the PROMIS pediatric Anger scale (8-18 years) and PedsQLTM (8-17 years). A graded response model (GRM) was fit to the data. Structural validity was assessed by checking item-fit statistics (S-X2, p < .001 = misfit). For construct validity, a moderate correlation (Pearson's r > 0.50) was expected between the Anger scale and PedsQLTM EF subscale score. Dutch mean T score based on the U.S. model was calculated to provide reference data and cut-offs. Standard error of measurement (SE(θ)) was used to assess reliability (SE(θ) < .32 = .90 reliability). Relative efficiency was calculated (1 - SE(θ)2/N items) to compare how good the measures performed relative to the amount of items administered. In total, 527 children completed the PROMIS pediatric Anger scale, of which 482 completed the PedsQLTM. Structural validity was sufficient as no items displayed misfit (S-X2 = 22.9-40.3, p > .001). The Anger scale score correlated moderately (Pearson's r = .64) with the PedsQLTM EF subscale score. Dutch mean T score was 44.20 (SD = 11.39), with cut-offs of >52.2 for moderate and ≥62.3 for severe symptoms. Reliable measurements were obtained at the population mean and >2SD in the clinically relevant direction. CAT outperformed all other measures in efficiency. The PROMIS pediatric Anger scale displayed sufficient psychometric properties within the Dutch population and reference data are available. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of children with avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is impaired. AIM To measure HRQOL and distress of parents of children with ARFID. METHODS Cross-sectional cohort study. Parents of children with ARFID, visiting our multidisciplinary feeding team, completed questionnaires on the online Quality of Life in Clinical Practice portal; the Questionnaire for Adult's Health Related Quality of Life to assess parental HRQOL and the Distress Thermometer for Parents. Reference groups of parents of healthy (HC) and chronically ill children (CIC) were used. RESULTS Eighty-five mothers and 62 fathers of 89 children with ARFID (58% female, median age 1.9 years) were included (response rate 68%). No differences were found regarding HRQOL in 11 of 12 domains between parents of children with ARFID and HC. Mothers of children with ARFID reported significantly higher HRQOL regarding pain and fathers a significantly lower HRQOL on depressive emotions compared to HC. No differences were found in overall and clinical distress scores between parents of children with ARFID and HC/CIC. Mothers of children with ARFID had significantly higher distress scores regarding cognitive problems compared to HC and parenting problems in children <2 years compared to HC/CIC. Significantly higher distress scores on parenting problems in children <2 years were found in fathers of children with ARFID compared to HC/CIC. CONCLUSION Most HRQOL and distress scores of parents of children with ARFID were comparable to reference groups. Since parents of children with ARFID perceive a lack of understanding and support from the environment, professionals should suggest peer support through patient's organizations. Furthermore, it is important to offer professional support since parents indicated that they would like to talk to a professional about their situation.

Abstract
Background The symptoms and appearance of vascular malformations can severely harm a patient’s quality of life. The aim of treatment of vascular malformations generally is to improve condition‐specific symptoms and/or appearance. Therefore, it is highly important to start testing treatment effects in clinical studies from the patient’s perspective. Objectives To develop a patient‐reported outcome measure for measuring symptoms and appearance in patients with vascular malformations. Methods A first draft of the patient‐reported outcome measure was based on the previously internationally developed core outcome set. The qualitative part of this study involved interviews with 14 patients, which led to a second draft. The second draft was field tested cross‐sectionally, after which groups of items were evaluated for adequate internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha > 0·7) to form composite scores. Construct validity was evaluated by testing 13 predefined hypotheses on known‐group differences. Results The patient interviews ensured adequate content validity and resulted in a general symptom scale with six items, a head and neck symptom scale with eight items, and an appearance scale with nine items. Cronbach’s alpha was adequate for two composite scores: a general symptom score (0·88) and an appearance score (0·85). Ten out of 13 hypotheses on known‐group differences were confirmed, confirming adequate construct validity. Conclusions With the development of the OVAMA questionnaire, outcomes of patients with vascular malformations can now be evaluated from the patient’s perspective. This may help improve the development of evidence‐based treatments and the overall care for patients with vascular malformations. What is already known about this topic?The symptoms and appearance of vascular malformations may severely impact the patient’s physical, mental and social functioning. Condition‐specific symptoms and appearance are the main drivers for treatment of vascular malformations. Symptoms and appearance were determined to be core outcome domains and should be measured in all clinical research on vascular malformations. No instrument exists for measuring patient‐reported symptoms and appearance problems in vascular malformations. Vascular malformation research is hampered by heterogeneity in outcome measures.
What does this study add?With this study, a condition‐specific patient‐reported outcome measure was developed for measuring symptoms and appearance in patients with vascular malformations: the OVAMA questionnaire. This study confirms adequate content and construct validity.
What are the clinical implications of this work?The problems that matter most to patients with vascular malformations can now be evaluated from the patient’s perspective. Treatments can be evaluated and compared for effects on these core outcome domains. This study is a big step in tackling current heterogeneity in outcome measures. Clinically distinct groups can be determined based on disease severity. The many applications of the OVAMA questionnaire may significantly improve research and, ultimately, the care for patients with vascular malformations.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Multidisciplinary management of women-specific bleeding is important to preserve quality of life, healthy reproduction and social participation of women and girls with bleeding disorders (WBD). AIM To support appropriate multidisciplinary care for WBD in haemophilia treatment centres. METHODS Two case examples are presented and management issues discussed from different health care perspectives, including the nurse, patient, psychologist, gynaecologist, geneticist, psychosexual therapist and haematologist. RESULTS Woman with bleeding disorders may experience heavy menstruation from menarche onwards. This has a physical and psychosocial impact requiring a multidisciplinary approach. If a woman with an inherited bleeding disorder desires to become pregnant, preconception counselling is essential, to discuss genetic diagnosis, state of the art treatment options for the bleeding disorder in question and possible choices to prevent having an affected child, as well as maternal bleeding risks during conception, delivery and the post-partum period. CONCLUSION Adequate management and good education of WBD requires a patient-centred multidisciplinary approach with experienced specialists in a haemophilia treatment centre.
