Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study is to examine the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) among college students in Hangzhou, and to analyze the influencing factors of their intention to use e-cigarettes. METHODS Using a stratified cluster sampling method, 775 students from two universities in Hangzhou were selected for an on-site questionnaire survey from March to April 2022. Adjusted logistic regression analysis was conducted on the influencing factors of use intention, based on innovation diffusion theory. RESULTS Within our sample of college students, 16.5% of students had tried e-cigarettes; 6.32% had used e-cigarettes in the past month, and 8.0% had the intention to use e-cigarettes. There were significant differences in willingness to use e-cigarettes among different genders, economic status, smoking status of close friends around them, and their own use of tobacco and alcohol (p<0.05). The logistic regression model showed that the observability of e-cigarettes (AOR=1.28; p<0.05), personal factors (AOR=1.39; p<0.05), and social systems (AOR=1.63; p<0.05), were all influencing factors of intention to use e-cigarettes. CONCLUSIONS College students in Hangzhou have a high intention to use e-cigarettes, and the impacts of the product itself, individual characteristics and the living environment are crucial. It is necessary to strengthen the promotion of tobacco knowledge at the social and family levels to reduce the occurrence of vaping.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study investigates the risk factors for complications following transurethral resection of the prostate and provides a reference for reducing postoperative complications. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on 322 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who underwent transurethral resection of the prostate from April 2015 to January 2022. Among them, 214 patients had complete clinical and follow-up data. Clinical and follow-up data were collected, and both univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors influencing the occurrence of postoperation transurethral resection of the prostate complications. RESULTS The incidence of complications after transurethral resection of the prostate was 19.16% (41/214). Among them, the incidence of Grade I-II complications was 14.96% (32/214), and Grade III-IV complications were 4.2% (9/214). The preoperative Quality of Life score (p<0.001) was identified as an independent risk factor for the occurrence of Grade I-II complications after transurethral resection of the prostate. The International Prostate Symptom Score (p=0.006) was identified as an independent risk factor for the occurrence of Grade III-IV complications after transurethral resection of the prostate. CONCLUSIONS The preoperative Quality of Life score is an independent risk factor for the occurrence of Grade I-II complications after transurethral resection of the prostate. The International Prostate Symptom Score is an independent risk factor for the occurrence of Grade III-IV complications after transurethral resection of the prostate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The sleep of healthcare students is worth discovering. Mental health and self-rated health are thought to be associated with sleep quality. As such, valid instruments to assess sleep quality in healthcare students are crucial and irreplaceable. This study aimed to investigate the measurement properties of the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (SQQ) for Chinese healthcare students. METHODS Two longitudinal assessments were undertaken among healthcare students, with a total of 595, between December 2020 and January 2021. Measures include the Chinese version of the SQQ, Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4), Self-Rated Health Questionnaire (SRHQ), and sociodemographic questionnaire. Structural validity through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to examine factor structure of the SQQ. T-tests and ANOVAs were used to examine sociodemographic differences in sleep quality scores. Multi Group CFA and longitudinal CFA were respectively used to assess cross-sectional invariance and longitudinal invariance across two-time interval, i.e., cross-cultural validity. Construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability were correspondingly examined via Spearman correlation, Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega, and intraclass correlation coefficient. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to examine incremental validity of the SQQ based on the PHQ-4 and SRHQ as indicators of the criterion variables. RESULTS CFA results suggested that the two-factor model of the SQQ-9 (item 2 excluded) had the best fit. The SQQ-9 scores differed significantly by age, grade, academic stage, hobby, stress coping strategy, anxiety, depression, and self-rated health subgroups. Measurement invariance was supported in terms of aforesaid subgroups and across two time intervals. In correlation and regression analyses, anxiety, depression, and self-rated health were moderately strong predictors of sleep quality. The SQQ-9 had good internal consistency and test-retest reliability. CONCLUSION Good measurement properties suggest that the SQQ is a promising and practical measurement instrument for assessing sleep quality of Chinese healthcare students.

Abstract
Background Sleep quality can offer new insights into addressing depression among stroke patients. However, the current understanding of the mechanism by which sleep quality reduces depression is not clear in existing research. Objectives This study aimed to identify the relationships and mechanisms among perceived stress, sleep quality, social support, and depression in stroke patients. Methods A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted from January to May 2023. Cluster random sampling was used to recruit 500 stroke patients from five hospitals in Henan Province, China. The Chinese Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-24) were employed to assess perceived stress, sleep quality, social support, and depression, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis, and moderated mediation analysis. The study adhered to the STROBE checklist for reporting. Results Out of 500 participants, 471 completed the survey (94.2%). After controlling for sex and age, mediation analysis revealed that poor sleep quality partially mediated the relationship between perceived stress and depression (β = 0.184, 95% CI: 0.110, 0.359). Additionally, social support played a moderating role in the mediation model. Conclusion This study explained the moderated mediation of sleep quality and social support between perceived stress and depression. It provided a theoretical basis for the development of a sleep quality intervention program for reducing depression among stroke patients.

Abstract
Purpose The World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5) is widely used to assess subjective well-being. Nevertheless, measurement invariance and optimal cutoff point of the WHO-5 have not been examined in Chinese samples. We aimed to assess measurement properties of the Chinese version of the WHO-5 (WHO-5-C) among healthcare students. Patients and Methods A two-wave longitudinal assessment was conducted among 343 Chinese healthcare students from September to November 2022. Measurement properties of the WHO-5-C were assessed through structural validity using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), measurement invariance using multigroup CFA (MGCFA) and longitudinal CFA (LCFA), convergent validity using correlation analysis with the Self-Rated Health Questionnaire (SRHQ) and Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4), reliability using internal consistency and test-retest reliability, and optimal cutoff point using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results The WHO-5-C demonstrated satisfactory structural validity with comparative fit index (CFI) of 0.968 at baseline and 0.980 at follow-up, and adequate measurement invariance in different sociodemographic variables at baseline (gender, age, major, home location, being only child, monthly household income, part-time job, physical exercise, hobby, frequency of visiting home, and stress coping strategy) (CFI changes [ΔCFI] = -0.009-0.003) and over a week (ΔCFI = -0.006-0.000). The WHO-5-C also had good internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.907-0.934; McDonald's ω = 0.908-0.935) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0.803). Convergent validity was supported by moderate correlations of the WHO-5-C with the SRHQ and PHQ-4. The optimal cutoff point of the WHO-5-C was found to be 50, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.882 at baseline data, with sensitivity of 0.803 and specificity of 0.762 at follow-up. Conclusion The WHO-5-C demonstrated adequate measurement properties, especially concerning cross-sectional and longitudinal measurement invariance, with a recommended optimal cutoff point of ≥ 50 for assessing adequate level of psychological well-being in healthcare students.

Abstract
Objective Sleep issues, negative emotions, and health conditions are commonly co-occurring, whereas their associations among healthcare students have yet to be elucidated. This study aimed to examine whether anxiety and depression mediate the relationship between sleep quality and subjective well-being in healthcare students. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among Chinese healthcare students (N = 348). A battery of paper-and-pencil questionnaires-the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (SQQ), World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5), and Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4) were applied. Descriptive analysis with means (standard deviations) and counts (proportions), Spearman correlation analysis between the SQQ, WHO-5, and PHQ-4, and mediation analysis via structural equation models were performed. Results Correlation analysis revealed statistically significant associations between sleep quality, anxiety and depression, and well-being among healthcare students. Mediation analysis identified that poor sleep quality produced relatively low levels of self-reported well-being, which were entirely attributable to anxiety and depression. Conclusion Sleep quality was associated with subjective well-being, and this interrelationship was fully mediated by anxiety and depression. Interventions aimed at promoting sleep quality of healthcare students may contribute to promoting their well-being by reducing anxiety and depression.

Abstract
PURPOSE Conformal sphincter preservation operation (CSPO) is a sphincter preservation operation for very low rectal cancers. Compared to intersphincteric resection (ISR), CSPO retains more dentate line and distal rectal wall, and also avoids damaging the nerves in the intersphincteric space. This study aimed to compare the postoperative anal function and quality of life between the CSPO and ISR. METHOD Patients with low rectal cancer undergoing CSPO (n = 117) and ISR (n = 66) were included from Changhai and Huashan Hospital, respectively, between 2011 and 2020. A visual analog scale (range 0-10) was utilized to evaluate satisfaction with anal function and quality of life. The anal function was evaluated with Wexner scores and low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) score. Quality of life was evaluated with the EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-CR38. RESULTS The CSPO group had more male patients (65.8% vs. 50%, p = 0.042), more preoperative chemoradiotherapy (33.3% vs. 10.6%, p < 0.001), lower tumor position (3.45 ± 1.13 vs. 4.24 ± 0.86 cm, p < 0.001), and more postoperative chemotherapy (65% vs. 13.6%, p < 0.001) compared to the ISR group. In addition, CSPO patients had shorter postoperative stay (6.63 ± 2.53 vs. 7.85 ± 4.73 days, p = 0.003) and comparable stoma reversal rates within 1 year after surgery (92.16% vs. 96.97%, p = 0.318). Multivariable analysis showed that CSPO significantly contributed to higher satisfaction with anal function (beta = 1.752, 95% CI 0.776-2.728) and with quality of life (beta = 1.219, 95% CI 0.374-2.064), but not to Wexner, LARS score, or EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-CR38. CONCLUSION CSPO improved the satisfaction with anal function and quality of life but utilized more preoperative chemoradiotherapy. CSPO may be an alternative choice for patients with very low rectal cancers in better physical health and with higher requirements for anal function and quality of life.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the associations between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), with a focus on gender differences, and variations among women pre-and post-menopausal stages. Design A retrospective cohort study. Setting A large community-based survey was conducted every two years from 2010 to 2018 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Southeastern China. Participants 10,218 participants (40 years or above) without CKD at baseline who underwent three physical examinations were enrolled. CKD was defined as an eGFR of less than 60 mL/min/1.73m2. Methods Participants with SUA levels were divided into four groups (Q1-Q4) based on baseline SUA quartiles. The Q1 was the reference. By stratifying participants by gender, the relationships between SUA levels and eGFR were investigated using the generalized additive mixture model. The associations of SUA and the risk of incident CKD were examined using multivariate logistic regression models in the generalized estimating equation. Results After adjusting for confounding variables, a nonlinear association between SUA and eGFR was observed in females, while an approximately linear relationship was observed in males, suggesting that elevated SUA levels are associated with renal function decline. Furthermore, the highest quartile of SUA was associated with a 2.16-fold (95% CI: 1.31-3.58) increased risk of CKD in males and a 2.76-fold (95% CI: 1.59-4.78) increased risk in females, compared with the lowest quartile. And the spline curves demonstrated a U-shaped pattern, suggesting a potential threshold effect of SUA on the risk of CKD. Additionally, Subgroup analyses revealed significant associations between elevated SUA levels with CKD in postmenopausal women, but not in premenopausal women. Conclusion Elevated SUA levels are associated with an increased risk of CKD development and renal function decline in middle-aged and elderly individuals, particularly in postmenopausal women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The 10-item Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) is a widely used tool for individuals to self-report their self-esteem; however, the factorial structures of translated versions of the RSES vary across different languages. This study aimed to validate the Chinese version of the RSES in the Chinese mainland using a longitudinal design. METHODS A group of healthcare university students completed the RSES across three waves: baseline, 1-week follow-up, and 15-week follow-up. A total of 481 valid responses were collected through the three-wave data collection process. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed on the baseline data to explore the potential factorial structure, while confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed on the follow-up data to determine the best-fit model. Additionally, the cross-sectional and longitudinal measurement invariances were tested to assess the measurement properties of the RSES for different groups, such as gender and age, as well as across different time points. Convergent validity was assessed against the Self-Rated Health Questionnaire (SRHQ) using Spearman's correlation. Internal consistency was examined using Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients, while test-retest reliability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficient. RESULTS The results of EFA revealed that Items 5, 8, and 9 had inadequate or cross-factor loadings, leading to their removal from further analysis. Analysis of the remaining seven items using EFA suggested a two-factor solution. A comparison of several potential models for the 10-item and 7-item RSES using CFA showed a preference for the 7-item form (RSES-7) with two factors. Furthermore, the RSES-7 exhibited strict invariance across different groups and time points, indicating its stability and consistency. The RSES-7 also demonstrated adequate convergent validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability, which further supported its robustness as a measure of self-esteem. CONCLUSIONS The findings suggest that the RSES-7 is a psychometrically sound and brief self-report scale for measuring self-esteem in the Chinese context. More studies are warranted to further verify its usability.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The CREST study showed that the addition of thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) could improve the survival of extensive stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC), but whether TRT can bring survival benefit in the era of immunotherapy is controversial. This study aims to explore the efficacy and safety of adding TRT to the combination of PD-L1 inhibitors and chemotherapy. MATERIALS/METHODS Thepatients who received PD-L1 inhibitors combined with platinum-based chemotherapy as the first-line treatment of ES-SCLC from January 2019 to December 2021 were retrospectively collected. According to whether they received TRT, they were divided into two groups, and the follow-up analysis was performed. Propensity score matching (PSM) in with a 1:1 ratio was performed to balance the baseline characteristics of the two cohorts. The endpoints were progression-free survival (PFS) and OS. RESULTS A total of 211 patients with ES-SCLC were enrolled, of whom 70 (33.2%) patients received standard therapy plus TRT as first-line treatment, and 141 (66.8%) patients in the control group received PD-L1 inhibitors plus chemotherapy. After PSM, a total of 65 pairs of patients were enrolled in the analysis. There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics between the two groups of patients who received TRT and those who did not. In all patients, the median PFS (mPFS) in the TRT group and the non-TRT groupwere 9.5 months and 7.2 months, respectively, with HR = 0.60 (95% CI 0.41-0.87, p = 0.007). The median OS (mOS) in the TRT group was also significantly longer than that in the non-TRT group (24.1 months vs. 18.5 months, HR = 0.53, 95% CI 0.32-0.85, p = 0.009). Multivariable analysis showed that baseline liver metastasis and bone metastasis were independent prognostic factors for OS. In terms of safety, immunotherapy combined with thoracic radiotherapy increased the incidence of treatment-related pneumonia (p<0.001), most of which were grade 1-2. CONCLUSION This real-world study shows that adding TRT to durvalumab or atezolizumab plus chemotherapy significantly improves survival in ES-SCLC. It leads to more treatment-related pneumonia, but most of them can be relieved after symptomatic treatment. This treatment model deserves to be explored in prospective clinical trials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the associations between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, focusing on potential sex-specific differences. DESIGN A retrospective cohort study. SETTING A large community-based survey was conducted every two years from 2010 to 2018 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, outheastern China. PARTICIPANTS 6119 participants aged 40 years and above who underwent at least three times of physical examinations were enrolled. METHODS Participants were categorised into four groups (Q1-Q4) based on baseline SUA quartiles within the normal range, with hyperuricaemia (HUA) as the fifth group. The Q1 was the reference. By stratifying participants by gender, the relationships between SUA levels and systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), fasting blood glucose (FBG) and total cholesterol (TC) were investigated using linear regression models in the generalised estimating equation. Additionally, the associations of elevated SUA levels and HUA with hypertension, hyperglycaemia and dyslipidaemia were correspondingly examined using multivariate logistic regression models. RESULTS After adjusting for confounding variables, we found positive associations between SUA levels and SBP, DBP, FBG and TC in women, and with TC in men (p<0.01). Likewise, elevated SUA quartiles and HUA were linked to increased dyslipidaemia risk in both sexes, and increased hyperglycaemia risk only in women, with HRs (95% CI) of 1.64 (1.05 to 2.55) and 2.37 (1.47 to 3.81) in the Q4 and HUA group, respectively. Women with HUA had higher hypertension risk (HR=1.45, 95% CI 1.21 to 1.73), while no such association was observed in men. Stratified analyses revealed significant associations between elevated SUA levels and CVD risk factors in postmenopausal and non-obese women. CONCLUSIONS Elevated SUA levels increase the risk of dyslipidaemia in both sexes. SUA levels within normal range and HUA are positively associated with hyperglycaemia and hypertension in postmenopausal women, but not in men.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study aimed to initially assess the measurement properties of the 10-item simplified Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-C-10) and as a first, assess a longitudinal measurement invariance (LMI). METHODS A longitudinal survey was conducted with a convenient sample of healthcare students using the PSS-C-10. We assessed the PSS-C-10 mainly using composite analytical approaches, including exploratory graph analysis (EGA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to suggest the best-fit factor structure and assess measurement invariance. RESULTS The EGA identified a two-factor structural solution with an accuracy of 98.6% at baseline and 100% at a 7-day follow-up. The CFA subsequently confirmed this structure, with a comparative fit index of 0.963 at baseline and 0.987 at follow-up, Tucker-Lewis index of 0.951 at baseline and 0.982 at follow-up, and root mean square error of approximation of 0.111 at baseline and 0.089 at follow-up. The LMI was supported by the goodness-of-fit indices, and their changes fell within the recommended cut-off range. Additionally, Cronbach's alpha (0.885 at baseline and 0.904 at follow-up), McDonald's omega (0.885 at baseline and 0.902 at follow-up), and an ICC value of 0.816 for 7 days demonstrated the robust reliability of the PSS-C-10. CONCLUSION The PSS-C-10 exhibited a stable two-factor structure with promising LMI and measurement properties.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The RU_SATED scale is a multidimensional instrument measuring sleep health, consisting of Regularity, Satisfaction, Alertness, Timing, Efficiency, Duration dimensions. We adapted and validated the Chinese RU_SATED (RU_SATED-C) scale. METHODS The RU_SATED-C scale was developed through a formal linguistic validation process and was validated in an observational longitudinal survey design. Healthcare students completed the RU_SATED scale, Sleep Quality Questionnaire, and Patient Health Questionnaire-4 among two sites of Hangzhou and Ningbo, China. Psychometric assessments included structural validity, longitudinal measurement invariance, convergent and divergent validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability. RESULTS A total of 911 healthcare students completed the RU_SATED-C scale at baseline (Time 1, T1) and follow-up (Time 2, T2) with an average time interval of 7 days + 5.37 h. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirmed a single-factor model and resulted in an acceptable model fit. The two-factor model previously found in the Japanese version fit better than the one-factor model, whereas the one-factor model fit had a better fit than the two-factor model found in the English version. Longitudinal CFA resulted in negligible changes in fit indices for four forms of increasingly restrictive models and supported that a single-factor model was equivalent over time. The data also endorsed longitudinal measurement invariance among the two-factor models found in the English and Japanese samples. The RU_SATED-C scale total score displayed a moderately strong negative correlation with sleep quality; however, negligible associations were observed with anxiety and depression. Ordinal Cronbach's alpha and Ordinal McDonald's omega at T1 and T2 ranged from suboptimal to acceptable. The RU_SATED-C scale and all items were significantly correlated across time intervals. CONCLUSION The RU_SATED-C scale is an easy-to-use instrument with potentially valid data for the measurement of multidimensional sleep health. Use of the RU_SATED-C scale can help raise awareness of sleep health and could pave the way for important efforts to promote healthy sleep.

Abstract
The association between the prevalence of breast and cervical cancer in Chinese women and air pollution is obscure. The study aims to analyze the correlation between air pollution and the prevalence of breast and cervical cancer, and whether the gross domestic product (GDP) has a modifying effect on the impact of air pollution on the prevalence of breast and cervical cancer. Extracting panel data from 31 provinces and cities between 2006 and 2020, we evaluated the association between breast and cervical cancer prevalence and pollutant emissions from 2006 to 2015 with two-way fixed-effect models. We also analyzed the interaction between GDP and pollutant emissions and further check the robustness of the moderating effect results using group regression from 2016 to 2020. Cluster robust standard errors were used to correct for the heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation. The coefficients of models show that the coefficients of logarithmic soot and dust emissions are estimated to be significantly positive, and the coefficients of their square terms are significantly negative. The robust results suggest that the relationship between soot and dust emissions and breast or cervical cancer prevalence is non-linear, from 2006 to 2015. In the analysis of particulate matter (PM) data in 2016-2020, the PM-GDP interaction term was also significantly negative, indicating that GDP growth weakened the effect of PM on the prevalence of breast cancer and cervical cancer. In provinces with higher GDP, the indirect effect of PM emissions concerning breast cancer is -0.396 while in provinces with lower GDP, it is about -0.215. The corresponding coefficient concerning cervical cancer is about -0.209 in provinces with higher GDP but not significant in provinces with lower GDP. Our results suggest that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between the prevalence of breast cancer and cervical cancer and air pollutants from 2006 to 2015. GDP growth has a significant negative moderating effect on the impact of air pollutants on the prevalence of breast cancer and cervical cancer. PM emissions have a higher effect on the prevalence of breast and cervical cancer in provinces with higher GDP and a lower impact in provinces with lower GDP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a growing attention on intuitive eating (IE) styles in the Western world that has not yet reached Arab countries, which is likely due to the lack of psychometrically sound measures of the IE construct for Arabic-speaking people. The current study aims to examine the psychometric properties of an Arabic translation of the most widely used measure of IE-the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2), in an Arabic-speaking community population from Lebanon. METHODS Two samples of Arabic-speaking community adults from Lebanon (sample 1: n = 359, 59.9% females, age 22.75 ± 7.04 years; sample 2: n = 444, 72.7% females, age 27.25 ± 9.53 years) were recruited through online convenience sampling. The translation and back-translation method was applied to the IES-2 for linguistic validation. Factorial validity was investigated using an Exploratory Factor Analysis & Confirmatory Factor Analysis strategy. Composite reliability and sex invariance were examined. We also tested convergent and criterion-related validity through correlations with other theoretically plausible constructs. RESULTS Nine out of the original 23 items were removed because they either loaded below 0.40 and/or cross-loaded too highly on multiple factors. This resulted in four domains (Unconditional Permission to Eat, Eating for Physical Rather than Emotional Reasons, Reliance on Hunger and Satiety Cues, and Body-Food Choice Congruence) and 14 items retained. Internal reliability estimates were excellent, with McDonald's ω values ranging from 0.828 to 0.923 for the four factors. Multigroup analysis established configural, thresholds, metric, scalar, strict invariance across gender. Finally, higher IES-2 total scores were significantly correlated with lower body dissatisfaction scores and more positive eating attitudes, thus attesting to convergent and criterion-related validity of the scale. CONCLUSIONS The current findings provide preliminary evidence for the appropriate psychometric qualities of the Arabic 14-item, four-factor structure IES-2; thereby supporting its use at least among Arabic-speaking community adults.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Sleep quality is essential to health. The current study aimed to adapt and validate the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (SQQ) into Chinese language. METHODS The Chinese version of the SQQ (SQQ-C) was created following the guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation. Compliant with the COSMIN methodology, baseline data (N = 13,325) examined three validity domains and internal consistency, including content validity using the content validity index (CVI) and the cognitive debriefing and focus group (relevance, comprehensiveness and comprehensibility), construct validity using structural validity and cross‑sectional measurement invariance, and criterion validity using concurrent/convergent validity. Follow-up data (N = 3410) gathered within a mean of 168 (167-207) h interval were used to additionally assess longitudinal measurement invariance and test-retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). RESULTS Scale-level CVI/Average was equal to 0.922; Item-level CVIs ranged from 0.889 to 1.000 (excellent), except for item 2 (0.556-fair). A panel of local experts and local participants during cognitive debriefing and focus group stated that it had sufficient relevance and comprehensibility but a slight deficiency in comprehensiveness. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a stable two-factor structure encompassing Daytime Sleepiness Subscale and Sleep Difficulty Subscale from baseline to follow-up data. The SQQ-C-9 (without item 2) outperformed the SQQ-C-10 (full form). The SQQ-C-9 provided evidence of measurement invariance (strict) across subgroups (cohorts, gender, and age) and across time. The SQQ-C was negatively correlated with the Chinese Nonrestorative Sleep Scale and the Chinese Sleep Condition Indicator. Cronbach's alpha (α), McDonald's Omega (ω), and ICC, respectively, ranged from 0.712 to 0.838, 0.723 to 0.840, and 0.738 to 0.764 for total scale and each subscale. CONCLUSION The SQQ-C exhibits adequate psychometric properties and a stable two-factor structure, and should enable valuable assessments of sleep quality in clinical and research settings.

Abstract
Purpose Stress may relate to an increased risk of psychological and physical disorders. Thus, a brief and efficient measurement instrument for researchers to measure stress is essentially needed. Participants and Methods To assess measurement properties of the validated Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Questionnaire-13 (PSQ-C-13), we conducted a two-wave longitudinal study from September to December, 2021 with a convenient sample of medical students. Results A two-factor (constraint and imbalance) structure showed good fit indices (Comparative Fit Index [CFI] = 0.972, Tucker-Lewis Index [TLI] = 0.966, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation [RMSEA] = 0.062). Spearman correlations with the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale-10 illustrated that convergent validity of the PSQ-C-13 was relatively satisfactory (r = 0.678 [baseline], 0.753 [follow-up]). Measurement invariance was supported across subgroups (gender, age, home location, single-child status, monthly households' income, and part-time status) and time points. Internal consistency was sound (Cronbach's α = 0.908 [baseline], 0.922 [follow-up]; McDonald's ω = 0.909 [baseline], 0.923 [follow-up]). Stability between time points was good (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient = 0.834). Conclusion The two factors of the PSQ-C-13 including constraint and imbalance may adequately measure the level of stress on participants. The PSQ-C-13 is a convenient and efficient instrument that contains valid and reliable psychometric properties.

Abstract
AIMS To analyze the incidence and mortality trends of breast cancer among women in China from 1990 to 2019 and explore the effects of age, period, and cohort on the incidence and mortality of breast cancer. METHODS We performed a Joinpoint regression model to describe trends in breast cancer incidence and mortality. We used an age-period-cohort analysis model to estimate the impact of age, period, and cohort on breast cancer incidence and mortality. We collected breast cancer incidence and mortality among women aged 20-89 in China (1990-2019) from the Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) database. RESULTS The crude incidence and mortality of breast cancer from 1990 to 2019 in Chinese women showed an increasing trend, with an average annual increase percentage (AAPC) of 4.69% and 2.18%, respectively. The analysis on the age-period-cohort model revealed that the risk of incidence increased first and then decreased with age and peaked at 55-59 years old, whereas the risk of mortality increased by approximately 60.34 times from 20 to 89 years old. The risk of incidence and mortality increased by 2.64 and 1.49 times with the passage of time, respectively. The later the birth cohort is, the lower the risk of incidence and mortality will be. CONCLUSION From 1990 to 2019, the incidence and mortality of breast cancer among Chinese women showed an increasing trend, and the prevention and control situation of breast cancer was still grim. Therefore, visual examination and palpation examination should be actively carried out in adult women with breast cancer, and the conventional population after 40 years of age, the high-risk population carrying hereditary breast cancer gene and the elderly population should be assisted with imaging examination along with palpation examination. When treating patients suffering from breast cancer, in order to reduce the death rate, a personalized treatment plan should be developed based on the characteristics of different patients.

Abstract
Background: The study aimed to assess the measurement properties of a simplified Chinese version of the Sleep Condition Indicator (SCI-SC) in the community. Methods: A psychometric evaluation through an observational cross-sectional survey design was conducted. Community residents (N = 751) in Hangzhou, China completed the SCI-SC and the simplified Chinese version of the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (SQQ) in July 2021. Data were randomly split into a development sample (N = 375) for model development by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and a holdout sample (N = 376) for validation by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Multi-group CFA (MGCFA) was used to assess configural, metric, scalar, and strict measurement invariance across gender, age, marital status, body mass index (BMI), napping habits, generic exercise, hobby, and administered survey. Moreover, statistical analyses were performed to determine the reliability (alpha and omega) and construct validity of the instrument. Results: Both factor analyses showed a stable solution with two dimensions of Sleep Pattern and Sleep-Related Impact. Good structural validity, robust internal consistency, and construct validity with the SQQ were demonstrated. There was evidence of strict invariance across gender, BMI, napping habits, generic exercise, hobby, and administered survey subgroups, but only metric and scalar invariances were established across age and marital status groups, respectively. Conclusions: The SCI-SC demonstrated promising psychometric properties, with high SQQ concordance and consistent structure of the original version. The SCI-SC can be used by sleep researchers as well as healthcare professionals in various contexts in detecting risks for insomnia disorder in the community.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The anti-CD38 antibody isatuximab is approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma, but there are no data on its efficacy in solid tumors. This phase I/II study (NCT03637764) assessed the safety and activity of isatuximab plus atezolizumab (Isa + Atezo), an anti-programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibody, in patients with immunotherapy-naive solid tumors: epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), glioblastoma (GBM), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). PATIENTS AND METHODS Phase I assessed safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and the recommended phase II dose (RP2D) of isatuximab 10 mg/kg intravenously (i.v.) every week for 3 weeks followed by once every 3 weeks + atezolizumab 1200 mg i.v. every 3 weeks. Phase II used a Simon's two-stage design to assess the overall response rate or progression-free survival rate at 6 months (GBM cohort). Interim analysis was carried out at 6 months following first dose of the last enrolled patient in each cohort. Pharmacodynamic biomarkers were tested for CD38, PD-L1, tumor-infiltrating immune cells, and FOXP3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME). RESULTS Overall, 107 patients were treated (EOC, n = 18; GBM, n = 33; HCC, n = 27; SCCHN, n = 29). In phase I, Isa + Atezo showed an acceptable safety profile, no dose-limiting toxicities were observed, and RP2D was confirmed. Most patients experienced ≥1 treatment-emergent adverse event (TEAE), with ≤48.5% being grade ≥3. The most frequent TEAE was infusion reactions. The study did not continue to stage 2 based on prespecified targets. Tumor-infiltrating CD38+ immune cells were reduced and almost cleared after treatment. Isa + Atezo did not significantly modulate Tregs or PD-L1 expression in the TME. CONCLUSIONS Isa + Atezo had acceptable safety and tolerability. Clinical pharmacodynamic evaluation revealed efficient target engagement of isatuximab via treatment-mediated reduction of CD38+ immune cells in the TME. Based on clinical data, CD38 inhibition does not improve responsiveness to PD-L1 blockade in these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The disability weight (DW) quantifies the severity of health states from disease sequela and is a pivotal parameter for disease burden calculation. We conducted a national and subnational DW measurement in China. METHODS In 2020-2021, we conducted a web-based survey to assess DWs for 206 health states in 31 Chinese provinces targeting health workers via professional networks. We fielded questions of paired comparison (PC) and population health equivalence (PHE). The PC data were analysed by probit regression analysis, and the regression results were anchored by results from the PHE responses on the DW scale between 0 (no loss of health) and 1 (health loss equivalent to death). FINDINGS We used PC responses from 468,541 respondents to estimate DWs of health states. Eight of 11 domains of health had significantly negative coefficients in the regression of the difference between Chinese and Global Burden of Disease (GBD) DWs, suggesting lower DW values for health states with mention of these domains in their lay description. We noted considerable heterogeneity within domains, however. After applying these Chinese DWs to the 2019 GBD estimates for China, total years lived with disability (YLDs) increased by 14·9% to 177 million despite lower estimates for musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, mental disorders, diabetes and chronic kidney disease. The lower estimates of YLDs for these conditions were more than offset by higher estimates of common, low-severity conditions. INTERPRETATION The differences between the GBD and Chinese DWs suggest that there might be some contextual factors influencing the valuation of health states. While the reduced estimates for mental disorders, alcohol use disorder, and dementia could hint at a culturally different valuation of these conditions in China, the much greater shifts in YLDs from low-severity conditions more likely reflects methodological difficulty to distinguish between health states that vary a little in absolute DW value but a lot in relative terms. Abstract
OBJECTIVE There is an increasing amount of evidence exploring the adverse effects of perceived stress or anxiety and depression independently on sleep quality during the COVID-19 outbreak, although the underlying mechanisms are unclear. The aim of the current study was to explore the role of anxiety and depression as a potential mediator between perceived stress and sleep quality among health care workers. METHODS Data were collected through an online survey using the snowball sampling method and comprised 588 current health care workers in Zhejiang and Hubei provinces, China, from February to March 2020. We administered the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (SQQ), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-4) and the sociodemographic characteristics and COVID-19-related characteristics questionnaire. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to examine the direct and indirect relationships between perceived stress, anxiety and depression, and sleep quality. RESULTS The average scores for sleep quality and perceived stress were 16.01 (95% CI [15.40, 16.57]) and 15.46 (95% CI [15.05, 15.87]), respectively. The positive rates of anxiety and depression symptom tests were 9.86% and 10.37%, respectively. The SEM results indicated that the original relationship between perceived stress and sleep quality was beta = 0.52 (P < 0.001) and reduced to beta = 0.25 (P = 0.045) while introducing anxiety and depression as mediating variables. Perceived stress was positively associated with anxiety and depression (beta = 0.78, P = 0.014), and anxiety and depression were positively associated with sleep quality (beta = 0.42, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Poor sleep quality and high perceived stress were common during the COVID-19 crisis. Reducing perceived stress could help reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, thereby improving sleep quality among health care workers. In an attempt to promote psychological resources, we should perhaps take multiple measures, including personal tailored intervention and organizational humanistic concern.

Abstract
AIM To explore the role of DNA methylation in the innate immunity of the dental pulp, this study investigated the effect of 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (AZA) on lipoteichoic acid (LTA)-induced cytokine production and related intracellular signalling pathways in human odontoblast-like cells (hOBs). METHODOLOGY hOBs were cultured and differentiated from human dental pulp tissue, and the odontoblastic phenotype of the cells was detected using immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR and Western blotting. hOBs were pretreated with AZA and then stimulated with 10 μg mL-1 LTA. The levels of 42 cytokines related to immunity and inflammation were examined using a cytokine antibody array and verified using qRT-PCR and ELISA. The effect of AZA on the LTA-induced NF-κB and MAPK signalling pathways was explored using Western blotting. The cells were treated with the specific NF-κB inhibitor PDTC and MAPK inhibitors (the ERK inhibitor U0126, the p38 inhibitor SB203580, and the JNK inhibitor SP600125) to further confirm the role of the signalling pathways in LTA-treated hOBs. DNA immunoprecipitation-PCR was used to examine the dynamic methylation status of the gene promoters of myeloid differentiation primary response 88 (MyD88) and tumour necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) in the LTA-induced hOBs. Statistical analyses of the differences between two groups were performed using Student's t-test. One-way analysis of variance (anova) or repeated-measures anova with a post hoc Dunnett's test was used to assess the differences between multiple sets of data. P < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. RESULTS The odontoblastic markers were significantly higher in hOBs than those in human dental pulp cells (hDPCs) (P < 0.05). According to the cytokine antibody array results, hOBs pretreated with AZA had significantly increased production of several inflammatory cytokines (P < 0.05), in which the expression levels of IL-6 and IL-8 were the most dramatically increased upon LTA stimulation (P < 0.01). Furthermore, AZA resulted in the significant upregulation of p-IKKα/β, p-IκBα, p-p65, p-p38 and p-ERK in LTA-stimulated hOBs (P < 0.01). Treatment with the NF-κB pathway inhibitor suppressed both IL-6 and IL-8 expression (P < 0.05), whereas inhibitors of the MAPK pathway (SB203580 and SP600125) did not. In LTA-treated hOBs, AZA significantly increased the expression levels of TRAF6 and MyD88 (P < 0.05). AZA induced MyD88 promoter hypomethylation but did not affect TRAF6 methylation. CONCLUSION AZA regulated the LTA-induced inflammatory response through the NF-κB signal pathway in hOBs. This study highlights the important role of DNA methylation in the immunity defence of odontoblasts during the dental pulp immunity response to caries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To elucidate whether microRNA-7b-5p (miRNA-7b-5p) could inhibit adipose differentiation of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) through regulating IRS2, thereby alleviating the progression of osteoporosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Expression levels of miRNA-7b-5p and IRS2 in hMSCs at different stages of adipogenic differentiation and osteogenic differentiation were detected by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot. After transfection of miRNA-7b-5p mimic or pcDNA-IRS2 in hMSCs, lipid droplet formation in cells was observed by oil red O staining. Expressions of C/EBPα and PPARγ were detected by qRT-PCR and Western blot. The potential target gene of miRNA-7b-5p was predicted by bioinformatics and verified by dual-luciferase reporter gene assay. Finally, expressions of IRS2 in hMSCs transfected with miRNA-7b-5p-NC, miRNA-7b-5p mimic or co-transfected with miRNA-7b-5p mimic and pcDNA-IRS2 were examined. RESULTS Expressions of miRNA-7b-5p and IRS2 gradually decreased with the prolongation of adipogenic differentiation, but increased during osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs. Transfection of miRNA-7b-5p mimic reduced oil red O staining after adipogenic differentiation and downregulated mRNA and protein levels of C/EBPα and PPARγ. Transfection of pcDNA-IRS2 increased oil red O staining after osteogenic differentiation and upregulated mRNA and protein levels of C/EBPα and PPARγ. Dual-luciferase reporter gene results showed that miRNA-7b-5p could bind to IRS2. Overexpression of IRS2 reversed the downregulated mRNA and protein levels of adipogenic-related genes C/EBPα and PPARγ due to the overexpression of miRNA-7b-5p. CONCLUSIONS MiRNA-7b-5p inhibits the adipogenic differentiation of hMSCs through IRS2, thus alleviating the development of osteoporosis.

Abstract
Objective Medical workers report high rates of stress, anxiety and depression, which need urgent attention. Providing evidence for intervention measures in the face of a mental health crisis, the present study validates the relation between self-compassion and anxiety and depression mediated by perceived stress amongst medical workers. The goal is also to replicate a similar mediation model though multigroup analysis. Methods Medical workers were randomly selected to investigate by paper-and-pencil survey among 1,223 medical workers from three hospitals in Shiyan, China. The measures were comprised of four parts: the Chinese version of the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale (GADS), the Self-Compassion Scale-Short Form (SCS-SF), the Perceived Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) and a socio-demographic questionnaire. Applying structural equation modeling (SEM, single-group analysis), we estimated the effects of self-compassion on anxiety/depression through perceived stress. Furthermore, based on multigroup analysis, we used two sets of internal samples (gender groups, medical groups) and an external sample (nursing students) for testing multigroup invariance. Results The average scores of anxiety, depression, self-compassion and perceived stress in medical workers were 5.93 ± 2.46, 4.91 ± 2.62, 38.87 ± 4.66 and 71.96 ± 15.14, respectively. In some departments engaged in the research, the medical workers showed higher levels of anxiety and depression. The SEM results indicated that the original relationship between self-compassion and anxiety and depression was beta = -0.42 (P < 0.001) and reduced to beta = -0.17 (P < 0.001) while introducing perceived stress as a mediating variable. Perceived stress was positively associated with anxiety and depression (beta = 0.60, P < 0.001), and self-compassion was negatively associated with perceived stress (beta = -0.56, P < 0.001). Multigroup analysis showed acceptable changes in fit indices across gender (male and female), medical (clinician and non-clinician), and population (medical workers and nursing students) groups. Conclusion Medical workers were experiencing high levels of anxiety and depression and perceived stress. Perceived stress might have a partial mediating effect on self-compassion and anxiety and depression amongst medical workers, which was similar to a previous study in nursing students. The findings supported multigroup invariance across gender, medical and population groups. The study concluded that the mediation model may be generalized across these multiple samples. Psychological intervention could be used to improve levels of self-compassion of medical workers.

Abstract
Background Statistical data on the burden and relevant risk factors of lung cancer are valuable for policy‐making. This study aimed to compare the mortality of lung cancer attributable to smoking stratified by sex and age among adults in China and the United States (US). Methods We extracted age‐standardized mortality rates of lung cancer during 1990‐2017 using the comparative risk assessment framework of the 2017 Global Burden of Disease study. We performed an age‐period‐cohort analysis to estimate time trend of lung cancer mortality attributable to smoking. Results During 1990‐2017, the age‐standardized mortality rate of lung cancer was increasing in China but decreasing in the US for both sexes. The mortality attributable to smoking in China showed a generally increasing trend, while a continuous decrease was observed in the US. The age‐period‐cohort analysis showed a similar trend of age effect among adults between China and the US: the mortality substantially increased from the 30‐34 to 80‐84 age group and subsequently decreased in the 90‐94 age group. However, the period effect rapidly increased in Chinese adults during 1990‐2017, while it tended to be stable in the US although it was still slightly increasing in women. The cohort effect generally peaked in the earlier cohort born in 1902‐1906 in the two countries. Conclusions During 1990‐2017, the lung cancer mortality attributable to smoking and the period effect are generally increasing in Chinese adults; the mortality attributable to smoking is decreasing in the US adults, but the period effect tends to be stable. The rapid aging and prevalence of smoking may intensify the increasing mortality of lung cancer in China.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE MicroRNA is an endogenous, non-coding small RNA that has a significant role in regulating organisms and pathology. Previous studies have demonstrated that microRNA-330-5p was a cancer-promoting gene. However, the role of microRNA-330-5p in osteosarcoma (OS) has not been reported. The aim of this work was to explore the characteristics of microRNA-330-5p expression in OS, and to further study its expression in OS and its relationship with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed to investigate the expression of microRNA-330-5p in 48 pairs of OS tissues and paracancer tissues, and to analyze the relationship between the expression of microRNA-330-5p and OS clinical indicators and patient prognosis. Meanwhile, qRT-PCR was performed to verify the microRNA-330-5p expression in OS cells. In addition, the microRNA-330-5p knockdown expression model was constructed using lentivirus in OS cell lines U2OS and MG63. The effects of microRNA-330-5p on the biological function of OS cells were analyzed by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and transwell experiments. The potential mechanism was explored by Western blot. RESULTS In this paper, qRT-PCR results showed that the expression of microRNA-330-5p in OS was higher than that in paracancer tissues, and the difference was statistically significant. Compared with microRNA-330-5p low expression group, patients with high expression of microRNA -330-5p had a higher prevalence of distant metastasis and a lower overall survival rate. In vitro experiment showed that the proliferation, invasion and metastasis abilities of the cells in the microRNA-330-5p silencing group were markedly decreased compared with the negative control group (NC group). Western blot results demonstrated that microRNA-330-5p inhibitor can activate SPRY2 and regulate the expression of key proteins, such as p-Smad2, p-Smad3, TGF-β1, MMP9 and Vimentin in the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway. It was found that there was a mutual regulation between microRNA-330-5p and SPRY2, which promoted the malignant progression of OS. CONCLUSIONS The expression of microRNA-330-5p was markedly increased in OS, which was associated with distant metastasis and poor prognosis. Furthermore, we found that microRNA-330-5p may promote the vicious progression of OS by inter-modulating SPRY2 and the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathways.

Abstract
Although the adverse effects of ambient particulate matter (PM) on cardiovascular disease (CVD) have been previously documented, information about their economic consequence was insufficient. This study aimed to evaluate the attributable risk and economic cost of cardiovascular hospitalizations due to ambient PM. Data of CVD hospitalizations and PM concentrations from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2017 were collected in Wuhan, China. A generalized additive model was applied to quantify the PM-attributable CVD hospitalizations, and total attributable hospitalization costs were calculated via multiplying the total attributable cases by the case-average hospitalization costs. A total of 45,714 CVD hospitalizations were included in this study. The results showed that a 10 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations at lag7 day, respectively, contributed to a 1.01% (95% confidence interval: 0.67-1.34) and 0.48% (0.26-0.70) increase in CVD hospitalizations. During the study period, 1487 and 983 CVD hospitalizations were attributable to PM2.5 and PM10, equaling an economic cost of 29.27 and 19.34 million RMB (1 RMB = 0.1424 USD), respectively, and significant differences in PM-attributable hospitalizations and economic burden were found between gender and age groups. Our study added evidence in heavily polluted megacities regarding the increased health risk and economic cost of CVD hospitalizations associated with ambient particulate pollution.

Abstract
Purpose China has a heavy cancer burden. We aimed to quantitatively estimate the secular trend of cancer mortality and incidence in China. Methods We extracted numbers, age-specific and age-standardized rates of 29 cancer groups (from 1990 to 2017) from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study in 2017. We estimated rates of major cancer types for annual percent change by Joinpoint regression, and for age, period, and cohort effect by an age–period–cohort model. Results In 2017, breast cancer had the highest incidence rate in females. Lung cancer had the highest mortality and incidence rates in males. Although the age-standardized incidence rate of prostate cancer ranked second highest in males, it increased by 112% from 1990 to 2017. Individuals aged over 50 years were at high risk of developing cancer, and the number of deaths at this age accounted for over 89% of all cancers in all age groups. When compared with the global average level, the age-standardized mortality and incidence rates of both liver and esophageal cancers were 2.1 times higher in China, and stomach, lung and nasopharyngeal cancers in China also had high levels (more than 1.5 times higher). During 1990–2017, most of the 29 cancers exhibited an increasing incidence trend, and Joinpoint regression demonstrated increasing mortality of some major cancers. The period effect indicated that the risk of mortality and incidence due to the main cancers generally increased during 1992–2017. Conclusion Trend analysis provided information on the effects of prevention strategies and targeted interventions on the occurrence of different cancers. Etiological studies need to be conducted on some major cancers in the Chinese population.

Abstract
Background Statistical data on burden of kidney cancer and the relavant risk factors are valuable for policy-making. This study aims to estimate kidney cancer deaths and high body-mass index (BMI) attributable to the deaths by gender and age group in China adults, compared with U.S. Methods We extracted kidney cancer data (1990–2017) about the age-standardized rates using the comparative risk assessment framework of the 2017 Global Burden of Disease study. We performed an age-period-cohort (APC) analysis to estimate trends of kidney cancer mortality attributable to high BMI. Results During 1990–2017, age-standardized mortality rate of kidney cancer was increasing in China but decreasing in U.S. The mortality attributable to high BMI in China showed a general increasing trend, while that in U.S. men was increasing and tended to be stable in women since 1995. APC analysis showed a similar pattern of age effect between China and U.S. adults, which substantially increased from 20 to 24 to 90–94 age group. Differently, the period effect rapidly increased in China than U.S. adults during 1990–2017. The cohort effect peaked in the earlier cohort born in 1902–1906 in China, and it declined consistently in U.S. with exception of 1902–1906 and 1907–1911 birth cohort. Conclusions The kidney cancer deaths attributable to high BMI, and period effect have been generally increasing in China adults, compared with U.S. adults in which the trend tends to be stable in recent years. The rapid aging may also intensify the increasing trend of kidney cancer death in China. Effective measures should be conducted on body weight control and care for kidney cancer prevention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A valid and efficient stress measure is important for clinical and community settings. The objectives of this study were to translate the English version of the Perceived Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) into Chinese and to assess the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the PSQ (C-PSQ). The C-PSQ evaluates subjective experiences of stress instead of a specific and objective status. METHODS Forward translations and back translations were used to translate the PSQ into Chinese. We used the C-PSQ to survey 2798 medical students and workers at three study sites in China from 2015 to 2017. Applying Rasch analysis (RA) and factor analysis (FA), we examined the measurement properties of the C-PSQ. Data were analyzed using the Rasch model for item fit, local dependence (LD), differential item functioning (DIF), unidimensionality, separation and reliability, response forms and person-item map. We first optimized the item selection in the Chinese version to maximize its psychometric quality. Second, we used cross-validation, by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), to determine the best fitting model in comparison to the different variants. Measurement invariance (MI) was tested using multi-group CFA across subgroups (medical students vs. medical workers). We evaluated validity of the C-PSQ using the criterion instruments, such as the Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Short Form-8 Health Survey (SF-8) and the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale (GADS). Reliability was assessed using internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha, Guttman's lambda-2, and McDonald's omegas) and reproducibility (test-retest correlation and intraclass correlation coefficient, [ICC]). RESULTS Infit and/or outfit values indicated that all items fitted the Rasch model. Three item pairs presented local dependency (residual correlations > 0.30). Ten items showed DIF. Dimensionality instruction suggested that eight items should be deleted. One item showed low discrimination. Thirteen items from the original PSQ were retained in the C-PSQ adaptation (i.e. C-PSQ-13). We tested and verified four feasible models to perform EFA. Built on the EFA models, the optimal CFA model included two first-order factors (i.e. constraint and imbalance) and a second-order factor (i.e., perceived stress). The first-order model had acceptable goodness of fit (Normed Chi-square = 8.489, TLI = 0.957, CFI = 0.965, WRMR = 1.637, RMSEA [90% CI] = 0.078 [0.072, 0.084]). The second-order model showed identical model fit. Person separation index (PSI) and person reliability (PR) were 2.42 and 0.85, respectively. Response forms were adequate, item difficulty matched respondents' ability levels, and unidimensionality was found in the two factors. Multi-group CFA showed validity of the optimal model. Concurrent validity of the C-PSQ-13 was 0.777, - 0.595 and 0.584 (Spearman correlation, P < 0.001, the same hereinafter) for the Chinese version of the PSS-10, SF-8, and GADS. For reliability analyses, internal consistency of the C-PSQ-13 was 0.878 (Cronbach's alpha), 0.880 (Guttman's lambda-2), and 0.880 (McDonald's omegas); test-retest correlation and ICC were 0.782 and 0.805 in a 2-day interval, respectively. CONCLUSION The C-PSQ-13 shows good metric characteristics for most indicators, which could contribute to stress research given its validity and economy. This study also contributes to the evidence based regarding between-group factorial structure analysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Self-compassion has been regarded as a key psychological construct and a protective factor of mental health status. The focus of the present study was to adapt the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) into Chinese, assess the validity and reliability of the measure and test measurement invariance (MI) across nursing students and medical workers. METHODS The current study assessed the psychometric properties and invariance of the SCS-Short Form (SCS-SF) in two samples of 2676 from nursing students and medical workers. For construct validity, confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses (CFAs and EFAs) were conducted. Using Perceived Stress Questionnaire , Short Form-8 Health Survey (SF-8) and Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale, we evaluated concurrent validity and convergent/divergent validity. For reliability, internal consistency and test-retest analysis were employed. Multi-group analyses were conducted to examine MI of the different SCS-models across populations. RESULTS CFA showed that the proposed six-factor second-order model could not be replicated and the six-factor first-order model was a reasonable to mediocre fitting model in both samples. EFA supported a three-factor structure which consisted of one positive and two negative factors. CFA confirmed that the hypothesized three-factor structure with 10 items ultimately was considered as the optimal model on the fitted results. The SCS-SF-10 (10 items form) also demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and test-retest reliability, as well as strong concurrent validity with measures of stress perception, health status, anxious and depressive symptoms. Convergent/divergent validity was not satisfactory. Multi-group CFAs provided support for the validity of the established models. CONCLUSION The Chinese version of the SCS-SF-10 has sound psychometric properties and can be applied to efficiently assess self-compassion in Chinese-speaking populations. The current study contributes to the identification and measurement of self-compassion after adversities.

Abstract
Deregulation of microRNA (miRNA) is closely related to cancer development and progression. Our previous study identified that miR-129-5p suppresses proliferation and metastasis in breast cancer cells. Herein, we determined that CBX4 is a miR-129-5p target gene. CBX4 is up-regulated in breast cancer tissues and while its over-expression promotes cell proliferation, its knockdown suppresses cell proliferation in breast cancer cells. Furthermore, CBX4 mediates miR-129-5p-induced inhibition of cell proliferation and negatively correlates with the expression of miR-129-5p expression. These combined results suggest that CBX4 is an oncogene in breast cancer cells, and that it may provide a novel therapeutic strategy for breast cancer treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Nursing students report high levels of anxiety and depression, which requires urgent attention. A growing amount of evidence indicates that self-compassion may indirectly (through perceived stress) and directly influence anxiety and depression, yet the research to date has not fully examined the reasons for this association. The present study examines the effects of self-compassion on anxiety and depression through perceived stress and may thus provide an innovative starting point for developing effective interventions for affected nursing students. STUDY DESIGN This is a cross-sectional study. METHODS Using structural equation modelling (SEM), we estimated the strength of the pathways between self-compassion, perceived stress and anxiety and depression among 1453 nursing students in Ningbo, China. The measurements included demographics, the Self-Compassion Scale-Short Form, the Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Questionnaire and the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale. RESULTS Nursing students had an average score of 4.50 ± 2.44 on the Goldberg Anxiety Scale (GAS) and 3.58 ± 2.34 on the Goldberg Depression Scale (GDS), indicating high levels of anxiety and depression. The GAS and GDS scores were significantly different by the academic year, part-time employment and career prospects. The average scores for self-compassion and perceived stress were 38.99 ± 4.55 and 0.40 ± 0.14, respectively. The SEM results suggested that self-compassion was negatively associated with anxiety and depression (-0.44, P < 0.001). Perceived stress was positively associated with anxiety and depression (0.64, P < 0.001). Self-compassion was negatively associated with perceived stress (-0.65, P < 0.001). Self-compassion had no significant correlation with anxiety and depression in the effect of perceived stress (-0.14, P = 0.127). Thus, self-compassion indirectly influences anxiety and depression through perceived stress. CONCLUSIONS Self-compassion might reduce nursing students' anxiety and depression through perceived stress. Interventionists can consider using self-compassion training to alleviate perceived stress, anxiety and depression in nursing students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Akt activation is common in gastric/gastroesophageal junction cancer (GC/GEJC) and is associated with chemotherapy resistance. Treatment with ipatasertib, a pan-Akt inhibitor, may potentiate the efficacy of chemotherapy in GC/GEJC. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, phase II trial, patients with locally advanced or metastatic GC/GEJC not amenable to curative therapy were randomised 1:1 to receive ipatasertib or placebo, plus mFOLFOX6 (modified regimen of leucovorin, bolus and infusional 5-fluorouracil [5-FU], and oxaliplatin). The co-primary end-point was progression-free survival (PFS) in the intent-to-treat (ITT) population and in phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN)-low patients. Secondary end-points included PFS in patients with PI3K/Akt pathway-activated tumours; overall survival, investigator-assessed objective response rate and duration of response in the ITT population; and safety assessments. RESULTS In 153 enrolled patients, the median PFS (ITT) was 6.6 months (90% confidence interval [CI], 5.7-7.5) with ipatasertib/mFOLFOX6 versus 7.5 months (90% CI, 6.2-8.1) with placebo/mFOLFOX6 (hazard ratio, 1.12; 90% CI, 0.81-1.55; P = 0.56). No statistically significant PFS benefit was observed in biomarker-selected patient subgroups (PTEN-low and PI3K/Akt pathway-activated tumours) with ipatasertib/mFOLFOX6 versus placebo/mFOLFOX6. Other secondary end-points did not favour the ipatasertib/mFOLFOX6 treatment arm. The percentages of patients with ≥1 adverse event (AE, 100% versus 98%) and grade ≥3 AEs (79% versus 74%) were similar between arms. Higher rates of AEs leading to treatment withdrawal (16% versus 6%) and serious AEs were reported in the ipatasertib arm (54% versus 43%). Thirty-nine and 29 deaths occurred in the ipatasertib and placebo arms, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Ipatasertib/mFOLFOX6 compared with placebo/mFOLFOX6 did not improve PFS in unselected or biomarker-selected patients. No unexpected safety concerns were observed. Abstract
In this study, trehalose was investigated for its cryoprotective effects on ovarian granulosa cells (bGCs) of cattle. Five concentrations of trehalose at 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mol/L were added to the cryopreservation medium of bGCs, and the effects on the quality of frozen-thawed bGCs were assessed. The results indicate that the use of cryopreservation medium containing 0.2 and 0.4 mol/L of trehalose resulted in a greater rate of bGC viability compared to those of other groups (P<0.05). Culturing with trehalose at 0.2 and 0.4 mol/L increased 17β- estradiol (E2)and decreased progesterone (P4)production (P < 0.05) in post-thawed bGCs. Compared with the control group, the intracellular Ca2+ concentrations of frozen-thawed bGCs were less in all treatment groups (P<0.05), and the least Ca2+ concentration was observed in the group containing 0.4 mol/L trehalose. The plasma membrane potentials of frozen-thawed bGCs were greater in the groups with 0.2 and 0.4 mol/L trehalose, and the group treated with 0.4 mol/L trehalose had the greatest membrane potential in comparison to other groups (P < 0.05). The relative abundance of the CYP19 mRNA in frozen-thawed bGCs was greater in the groups containing 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 mol/L trehalose, and relative abundances of FSHR and BCL2 mRNA were greater in the group of bGCs treated with 0.2 mol/L trehalose (P<0.05). Trehalose treatment at 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mol/L had an inhibitory effect on BAX gene transcription in frozen-thawed bGCs (P<0.05). In summary, trehalose exhibited a greater cryoprotective effect on bGCs than basic cryopreservation medium.

Abstract
Recent studies indicate that circular RNA (circRNA) is involved in tumorigenesis, but its role in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains largely unknown. In this study, we characterized the role of circ-ITCH in TNBC and found that circ-ITCH was significantly down-regulated in TNBC tissues and cell lines and closely associated with poor prognosis. We therefore constructed the MDA-MB-231 and BT-549 TNBC cell lines stably expressing circ-ITCH by lentiviral vectors to determine its underlying mechanisms in TNBC progression. Most importantly, over-expression of circ-ITCH remarkably inhibited TNBC proliferation, invasion and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, we found that circ-ITCH acts as a sponge for miR-214 and miR-17 to increase expression of its ITCH linear isoform, thereby inactivating Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Our combined results show for the first time that circ-ITCH is a tumor suppressor, a promising prognostic biomarker in TNBC and that its restoration could well be a successful strategy in TNBC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the expression of kir6.2 subunit of the sarcKATP channel in exercise-induced myocardial injury and to elucidate the underlying mechanism of myocardial protection by sarcKATP channels. MATERIALS AND METHODS Healthy male Sprague Dawley(SD) rats were divided into the Control (C) and the Exhaustive Exercise (EE) group. The one-time exhaustive exercise-induced myocardial injury model was established on a treadmill at a speed of 35 m/min. Alterations in myocardial ischemia and hypoxia were examined by hematoxylin-basic fuchsin-picric acid (HBFP) staining and the concentration of cardiac Troponin I (cTnl), a sensitive and specific marker for myocardial injury, was detected using immunochemiluminescence analysis. The mRNA expression level, localization, and protein expression of sarcKATP channel subunit kir6.2 were determined by quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), immunofluorescence, and Western blot analysis, respectively. RESULTS When compared to Group C, rats in Group EE demonstrated significantly increased areas of myocardial ischemia and hypoxia. Moreover, increased serum levels of cTnI were detected. Increased kir6.2 expression was found on the surface of cardiomyocytes and kir6.2 protein expression was also significantly increased. CONCLUSIONS Exercise-induced myocardial injury did not result in noticeable alterations in kir6.2 mRNA expression. However, kir6.2 protein expression was significantly increased and resulted in increased numbers of sarcKATP channel openings in the myocardium, thereby further inhibiting exercise-induced myocardial injury.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sudden temperature change may elevate short-term mortality and remains an important global health threat in the context of climate change. To date, however, little available temperature-mortality evidence has taken into account both intra- and inter-day temperature variability (TV), thus largely limiting the comprehensive understanding of mortality burden due to unstable weather. Moreover, seasonal and temporal patterns in TV-mortality associations were sparsely discussed, nationally and regionally. OBJECTIVES We aimed to assess the nationwide association of all-cause mortality with hourly temperature variability (HTV), quantify HTV-attributable mortality, and further explore the temporal and seasonal variations of mortality burden due to HTV in United Kingdom. METHODS Fourteen-year time-series data on temperature and mortality were collected from 10 regions in England and Wales during 1993-2006, totally including 7,573,716 all-cause deaths. HTV was calculated from the standard deviation of hourly temperature records within two neighboring days. A three-stage analytic approach was adopted to assess HTV-associated mortality burden. We first applied a time-series quasi-Poisson regression to estimate region-specific HTV-mortality associations, then pooled these associations at the national level using a multivariate meta-analysis, and finally estimated the HTV-attributable mortality fraction and illustrated its seasonal and temporal variations by conducting season- and period-specific analyses based on time-varying distributed lag models. RESULTS We found strong evidence that large HTV exposure elevated short-term mortality risk in England and Wales, with a pooled estimate of 1.13% (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.88, 1.39) associated with a 1-°C increase in HTV. During the whole study period, HTV accounted for a national average attributable fraction of 2.52% (95% empirical confidence interval (eCI): 2.27, 2.76) of the total deaths. This HTV-attributable mortality estimate showed a significant temporal decrease (p < 0.001) from 2.72% (95% eCI: 2.58, 2.87) in 1993-99 to 2.28% (95% eCI: 2.13, 2.43) in 2000-06. Additionally, clear seasonal variations were observed for HTV-attributable mortality burden, with the largest estimate of 3.08% (95% eCI: 2.80, 3.38) in summer, followed by 2.71% (95% eCI: 2.44, 2.98) in spring, 2.40% (95% eCI: 2.16, 2.63) in autumn, and 2.00% (95% eCI: 1.81, 2.20) in winter. CONCLUSIONS Despite clear evidence observed for the reduction, mortality burden caused by temperature variability remained a great public health threat, especially in warm seasons. It highlighted the importance of specific interventions targeted to unstable weather as well as temperature extremes, so as to reduce climate-related mortality burden.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fundoplication provides excellent control of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), but there remain a number of unsatisfied patients who have proven difficult to identify pre-operatively. We hypothesised that pre-operative symptom patterns can predict of the risk of post-operative dissatisfaction. METHODS Pre-operative symptoms and post-operative satisfaction were measured using standardised questionnaires along with routine investigations. These data were used to calculate our novel pre-operative risk of dissatisfaction (PROD) score. Potential pre-operative prognostic markers were tested against the post-operative satisfaction data, including the objective investigations and the PROD score. The prognostic utility of the PROD score and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) guideline was tested using receiver operating characteristic analysis to determine the area under the curve (AUC). RESULTS An association was found between our PROD score and each of the satisfaction measures (n = 225, p < 0.001) which is likely to be of prognostic utility (AUC = 0.67-0.79). No such association was found between the routine investigations and post-operative satisfaction. The PROD score was found to be of greater prognostic utility than the SAGES guideline (n = 166, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The PROD score is a novel, easy-to-use test that can predict individual patient satisfaction with fundoplication.

Abstract
Satisfaction evaluation is widely used in healthcare systems to improve healthcare service quality to obtain better health outcomes. The aim of this study was to measure employee work satisfaction and patient satisfaction status in Wuhan, China. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 14 medical institutions. The final valid sample comprised a total of 696 medical staff and 668 patients. The overall satisfaction levels of medical staff and patients were 58.28 ± 14.60 (10.47–100.00) and 65.82 ± 14.66 (8.62–100.00), respectively. The factors affecting medical staff satisfaction, ranking in sequence from most to least satisfied, were: the work itself, working environment and atmosphere, hospital management, practicing environment, and job rewards. Patient satisfaction factors, from most to least affecting, were ranked as follows: physician-patient relationship and communication, service organization and facilities, continuity and collaboration of medical care, access to relevant information and support, and healthcare and related services, respectively. The overall satisfaction evaluation of medical staff was average. Healthcare policy makers and medical institution management staff should focus on job rewards and working environment. This would allow them to increase their work happiness and sense of belonging, which in turn would allow them to provide better medical services to patients. The overall patient evaluation was satisfactory, with patients satisfied at all levels of the satisfaction evaluation.

Abstract
Objective To translate the Perceived Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) into Chinese, validate its reliability and validity in nursing students and investigate the perceived stress level of nursing students. Method Forward- and back-translation combined with expert assessment and cross-cultural adaptations were used to construct the Chinese version of the PSQ (C-PSQ). This research adopted a stratified sampling method among 1,519 nursing students in 30 classes of Ningbo College of Health Sciences to assess the reliability and validity of the C-PSQ. Among them, we used the Recent C-PSQ (only the last month). Results The C-PSQ retained all 30 items of the original scale. Principal component analysis extracted five factors that explained 52.136% of the total variance. The S-CVI/Ave was 0.913. Concurrent validity was 0.525 and 0.567 for anxiety and depression respectively. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis were as follows: χ2/df = 4.376, RMR = 0.023, GFI = 0.921, AGFI = 0.907, CFI = 0.916, RMSEA = 0.048, PNFI = 0.832, PGFI = 0.782, CN = 342 and AIC/CAIC = 0.809. The scale’s Cronbach’s alpha was 0.922, and Cronbach’s α of each dimension was 0.899 (worries/tension), 0.821 (joy), 0.688 (overload), 0.703 (conflict), 0.523 (self-realization). The correlation coefficient between the first and second test, the first and third test and the second and third test was 0.725, 0.787 and 0.731, respectively. Mean values and distribution of overall PSQ index in nursing students was 0.399 ± 0.138. Different demographic factors were significantly associated with the perceived stress of nursing students. Conclusion The C-PSQ has an appropriate reliability and validity, which means that the scale can be used as a universal tool for psychosomatic studies. The perceived stress of nursing students was relatively high. Further studies are needed.
