Abstract
Despite extensive research on the gut microbiome of healthy individuals from a single country, there are still a limited number of population-level comparative studies. Moreover, the sequencing approach used in most related studies involves 16 S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequencing with a limited resolution, which cannot provide detailed functional profiles. In the present study, we applied a combined analysis approach to analyze whole metagenomic shotgun sequencing data from 2035 healthy adult samples from six countries across four continents. Analysis of core species revealed that 13 species were present in more than 90 % of all investigated individuals, the majority of which produced short-chain fatty acids (SCFA)-producing bacteria. Our analysis revealed consistently significant differences in gut microbial species and pathways between Western and non-Western countries, such as Escherichia coli and the relation of MetaCyc pathways to the TCA cycle. Specific changes in microbial species and pathways are potentially related to lifestyle and diet. Furthermore, we identified several noteworthy microbial species and pathways that exhibit distinct characteristics specific to China. Interestingly, we observed that China (CHN) was more similar to the United States (USA) and United Kingdom (GBR) in terms of the taxonomic and functional composition of the gut microbiome than India (IND) and Madagascar (MDG), which were more similar to the China (CHN) diet. The current study identified consistent microbial features associated with population and geography, which will inspire further clinical translations that consider paying attention to differences in microbiota backgrounds and confounding factors.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the association between pro-inflammatory markers platelet-activating factor (PAF), lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), hsCRP, and intake of core food groups including fruit, cruciferous and other vegetables, grains, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, nuts and legumes, and dairy. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted. 100 adults (49 ± 13 years, 31% male) with variable cardiovascular disease risk were recruited. Data were collected in 2021 and 2022. Fasting PAF, Lp-PLA2 activity, hsCRP and usual dietary intake (via a validated food frequency questionnaire) were measured. Intake of foods were converted into serves and classified into food groups. Correlations and multiple regressions were performed with adjustment for confounders. RESULTS A one-serve increase in cruciferous vegetables per day was associated with 20-24% lower PAF levels. An increase of one serve per day of nuts and legumes was associated with 40% lower hsCRP levels. There were small correlations with PAF and Lp-PLA2 and cheese, however, these were not significant at the Bonferroni-adjusted P < 0.005 level. CONCLUSION The lack of associations between PAF and Lp-PLA2 and other healthy foods may be due to confounding by COVID-19 infection and vaccination programs which prevents any firm conclusion on the relationship between PAF, Lp-PLA2 and food groups. Future research should aim to examine the relationship with these novel markers and healthy food groups in a non-pandemic setting.

Abstract
PURPOSE To measure non-invasively retinal venous blood flow (RBF) in healthy subjects and patients with retinal venous occlusion (RVO). METHODS The prototype named AO-LDV (Adaptive Optics Laser Doppler Velocimeter), which combines a new absolute laser Doppler velocimeter with an adaptive optics fundus camera (rtx1, Imagine Eyes®, Orsay, France), was studied for the measurement of absolute RBF as a function of retinal vessel diameters and simultaneous measurement of red blood cell velocity. RBF was measured in healthy subjects (n = 15) and patients with retinal venous occlusion (RVO, n = 6). We also evaluated two softwares for the measurement of retinal vessel diameters: software 1 (automatic vessel detection, profile analysis) and software 2 (based on the use of deep neural networks for semantic segmentation of vessels, using a M2u-Net architecture). RESULTS Software 2 provided a higher rate of automatic retinal vessel measurement (99.5 % of 12,320 AO images) than software 1 (64.9 %) and wider measurements (75.5 ± 15.7 μm vs 70.9 ± 19.8 μm, p < 0.001). For healthy subjects (n = 15), all the retinal veins in one eye were measured to obtain the total RBF. In healthy subjects, the total RBF was 37.8 ± 6.8 μl/min. There was a significant linear correlation between retinal vessel diameter and maximal velocity (slope = 0.1016; p < 0.001; r2 = 0.8597) and a significant power curve correlation between retinal vessel diameter and blood flow (3.63 × 10-5 × D2.54; p < 0.001; r2 = 0.7287). No significant relationship was found between total RBF and systolic and diastolic blood pressure, ocular perfusion pressure, heart rate, or hematocrit. For RVO patients (n = 6), a significant decrease in RBF was noted in occluded veins (3.51 ± 2.25 μl/min) compared with the contralateral healthy eye (11.07 ± 4.53 μl/min). For occluded vessels, the slope between diameter and velocity was 0.0195 (p < 0.001; r2 = 0.6068) and the relation between diameter and flow was Q = 9.91 × 10-6 × D2.41 (p < 0.01; r2 = 0.2526). CONCLUSION This AO-LDV prototype offers new opportunity to study RBF in humans and to evaluate treatment in retinal vein diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite their higher risk of developing severe disease, little is known about the burden of influenza in Portugal in children aged < 5 years old. This study aims to cover this gap by estimating the clinical and economic burden of severe influenza in children, in Portugal, during ten consecutive influenza seasons (2008/09-2017/18). METHODS We reviewed hospitalizations in children aged < 5 years old using anonymized administrative data covering all public hospitals discharges in mainland Portugal. The burden of hospitalization and in-hospital mortality directly coded as due to influenza was supplemented by the indirect burden calculated from excess hospitalization and mortality (influenza-associated), estimated for four groups of diagnoses (pneumonia or influenza, respiratory, respiratory or cardiovascular, and all-cause), through cyclic regression models integrating the incidence of influenza. Means were reported excluding the H1N1pdm09 pandemic (2009/10). RESULTS The mean annual number of hospitalizations coded as due to influenza was 189 (41.3 cases per 100,000 children aged < 5 years old). Hospitalization rates decreased with increasing age. Nine-in-ten children were previously healthy, but the presence of comorbidities increased with age. Children stayed, on average, 6.1 days at the hospital. Invasive mechanical ventilation was used in 2.4% of hospitalizations and non-invasive in 3.1%. Influenza-associated excess hospitalizations between 2008 and 2018 were estimated at 1,850 in pneumonia or influenza, 1,760 in respiratory, 1,787 in respiratory or cardiovascular, and 1,879 in all-cause models. A total of 95 influenza-associated excess deaths were estimated in all-cause, 14 in respiratory or cardiovascular, and 9 in respiratory models. Over ten years, influenza hospitalizations were estimated to have cost the National Health Service at least €2.9 million, of which 66.5% from healthy children. CONCLUSIONS Influenza viruses led to a high number of hospitalizations in children. Most were previously healthy. Results should lead to a reflection on the adequate preventive measures to protect this age group.

Abstract
Differences in lower limb kinematics between males and females during functional activities may be attributed to sex differences in the incidence of patellofemoral pain, which is more common in females. To better comprehend the knee joint motion, it is necessary to understand both inter-segmental coordination patterns and angular amplitude. This exploratory study aimed to assess sex differences in pelvis-thigh and thigh-shank coordination patterns in the frontal and horizontal planes during walking. Data regarding the kinematic characteristics of the pelvis, thigh, and shank segments were collected from 26 males and 26 females performing walking at self-selected speeds using a 3D motion capture system. Furthermore, we compared the kinematics of the pelvis, thigh, and shank during walking as well as the pelvis-thigh and thigh-shank coordination patterns in the frontal and horizontal planes during the stance phase between males and females. Compared to males, females had greater thigh adduction (p < 0.001) and internal rotation (p < 0.001) throughout the stance phase; significantly greater frequency of the pelvis-thigh anti-phase pattern in the frontal plane in the early (p = 0.002) and mid-stance (p = 0.003); and significantly greater thigh-shank anti-phase pattern in the frontal plane in the early (p = 0.001) and mid-stance (p = 0.015). These results suggest the presence of sex differences in the inter-segmental coordination of the pelvis and lower limb during walking. However, as this study could not determine a causal relationship between female sex and knee joint injury, further longitudinal studies are needed to determine the effects of differences in coordination patterns on the pathophysiology of the injury and pain generation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Effective use of lung volume data measured on computed tomography (CT) requires reference values for specific populations. This study examined whether an equation previously generated for multiple ethnic groups in the United States, including Asians predominantly composed of Chinese people, in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) could be used for Japanese people and, if necessary, to optimize this equation. Moreover, the equation was used to characterize patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung hyperexpansion. METHODS This study included a lung cancer screening CT cohort of asymptomatic never smokers aged ≥40 years from two institutions (n = 364 and 419) to validate and optimize the MESA equation and a COPD cohort (n = 199) to test its applicability. RESULTS In all asymptomatic never smokers, the variance explained by the predicted values (R2) based on the original MESA equation was 0.60. The original equation was optimized to minimize the root mean squared error (RMSE) by adjusting the scaling factor but not the age, sex, height, or body mass index terms of the equation. The RMSE changed from 714 ml in the original equation to 637 ml in the optimized equation. In the COPD cohort, lung hyperexpansion, defined based on the 95th percentile of the ratio of measured lung volume to predicted lung volume in never smokers (122 %), was observed in 60 (30 %) patients and was associated with centrilobular emphysema and air trapping on inspiratory/expiratory CT. CONCLUSIONS The MESA equation was optimized for Japanese middle-aged and elderly adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Symptomatic COVID-19 and Long COVID, also referred to as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC) or post-COVID conditions, have been widely reported in young, healthy people, but their prevalence has not yet been determined in student athletes. We sought to estimate the prevalence of reported COVID-19, symptomatic COVID-19, and Long COVID in college athletes in the United States attending 18 schools from spring 2020 to fall 2021. METHODS We developed an online survey to measure the prevalence of student athletes who tested positive for COVID-19, developed Long COVID, and did not return to their sport during the relevant time period. We surveyed a convenience sample of 18 collegiate school administrators, representing about 7,000 student athletes. Of those schools surveyed, 16 responded regarding the spring 2020 semester, and 18 responded regarding the full academic year of fall 2020 to spring 2021 (both semesters). RESULTS According to the survey responses, there were 9.8% of student athletes who tested positive for COVID-19 in spring 2020 and 25.4% who tested positive in the academic year of fall 2020 to spring 2021. About 4% of student athletes who tested positive from spring 2020 to spring 2021 developed Long COVID, defined as new, recurring, or ongoing physical or mental health consequences occurring 4 or more weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights that Long COVID occurs among young, healthy athletes and is a real consequence of COVID-19. Understanding the prevalence of Long COVID in this population requires longer follow-up and further study.

Abstract
Background Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is an autoimmune diseases of the inner ear which is usually defined by acute onset of hearing loss in one or both ears, of 30 dB or more on at least three contiguous audiometric frequencies within 3 days or less. This study aimed to compare the serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (VitD) between patients with SSNHL and healthy controls. Methods A total of 50 patients with SSNHL and 50 healthy individuals without hearing loss as control group were enrolled in this study. Serum levels of VitD and other related laboratory tests such as calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), and parathyroid hormone (PTH) were measured and compared between two study groups. Results Serum level of VitD was significantly lower in patients suffering from SSNHL compared to the healthy controls (26.55 ± 14.44 vs. 33.51 ± 14.21, P = 0.017, respectively). VitD insufficiency was observed in 70% (n = 35) of the patients with SSNHL as compared to 44% (n = 22) of healthy individuals, demonstrating a significant difference between two study groups. However, no statistically difference was observed for serum levels of Ca, P, and PTH. Conclusion This study indicated an increased prevalence of VitD insufficiency in subjects with SSNHL, suggesting a possible association between serum VitD levels and the development of SSNHL. VitD may protect the hearing loss through its antioxidant role.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The impact of hemoglobin levels on the occurrence of future health events remains equivocal. Due to its integral role in human hemostasis, both, high and low hemoglobin levels may play a significant role in the development of future cardiovascular (CV) events in otherwise healthy adults. METHODS Data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer (EPIC)-InterAct cohort was analyzed. In 13.648 individuals, physical activity, body mass index, family history of cardiovascular events, kidney function, smoking status, blood pressure and LDL levels were modelled to concomitant hemoglobin levels and correlated to the occurrence of clinically-overt cardiovascular events and death over a 21-year period. (Sex specific) cox regression analysis were used to develop hazard ratios (HRs) for CV events and all-cause mortality. RESULTS Anemia (hemoglobin (HGB) levels < 13.0 g/dl in men and < 12.0 g/dl in non-pregnant women) were associated with an increased all-cause mortality in men but not in women (HR anemia in men 1.4 (1.2; 1.6)) p=<0.0001).This was particularly visible with increasing age. Various sex specific Cox regression models, accounting for several CV risk factors confirmed these results. The incidence of future CV events and myocardial infarction was significantly influenced by underlying HGB levels in men with increasing age but not in women. CONCLUSION The influence of HGB levels on future cardiovascular events is sex-dependent. In men, presenting with anemia at baseline, the overall survival probability was impaired with increasing age. After adjusting for several CV risk factors, abnormal hemoglobin levels could be identified as a risk factor for the development of clinically-apparent future CV events in men. None of these effects were observed in women.

Abstract
Social isolation and disability are established risk factors for poor nutrition. We aimed to assess whether social isolation is associated with diet quality specifically among adults with disabilities. This cross-sectional analysis used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2013-2018. Adults with a disability, who were not pregnant, breastfeeding, or missing dietary intake data were included (n = 5,167). Disability was defined as a physical functioning limitation based on difficulty with any activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, lower extremity mobility activities, or general physical activities. The Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2015 measured diet quality; higher scores correspond to higher diet quality. We computed a social isolation index by summing single status, living alone, and two social engagement difficulty measures (one point for each component met; maximum 4 points). Multivariable linear regression, controlling for demographic and health covariates, estimated differences in HEI scores for dietary intake data, by social isolation score. Over half of HEI scores were < 51, corresponding to "poor" diet quality. Higher social isolation score was associated with lower vegetable and seafood/plant proteins intake. Single status and one of two social engagement measures were associated with lower scores on certain adequacy components. Differences were modest. There was little evidence of effect modification by age or gender. Adults with disabilities are not meeting national dietary standards; improving diet quality is a priority. Whether social isolation is associated with specific dietary components in this population requires further investigation. Further research is also needed among younger adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthy and sustainable food environments are urgently needed, also in nursing and residential care homes. Malnutrition in care homes is becoming an increasing problem as populations worldwide are ageing and many older people do not consume sufficient protein, fibre, fruit, and vegetables. Nursing homes also often experience a lot of food waste. A transition in the food environment like a nursing home, involves the participation of facility management and food service staff members. This study aims to map out their perceived barriers and facilitators for this transition. METHODS A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted with food service staff members (n = 16), comprising of kitchen staff (n = 4), wait staff (n = 10), and facility management (n = 2) of two nursing homes in the Netherlands. Thematic analysis was used to derive content and meaning from transcribed interviews. RESULTS Four main themes were identified. Theme 1: 'Communication, transparency and accountability in the chain', highlighting the lack of effective communication flows and a fragmented overview of the food service chain as a whole. Theme 2: 'Understanding, knowledge and ability of the concepts healthy and sustainable', revealing the gap in staff's understanding of these abstract concepts, despite perceiving themselves as having sufficient knowledge and ability. Theme 3: 'The pampering service mind-set', highlighting the contradiction in the staff's shared goal of proving the highest quality of life for residents while also pampering them in ways that may not align with promoting healthy and sustainable food choices. Theme 4: 'Transition is important but hard to realize', describing the barriers such as existing routines and a lack of resources as challenges to implementing changes in the food service. CONCLUSIONS Facilitators to transitioning nursing homes towards a healthy and sustainable food environment as perceived by staff members included transparent communication, accountability in the food supply chain, staff's perceived ability and shared goal, while barriers included lack of understanding of the concepts healthy and sustainable, the current pampering mindset, and top-down decision-making. These findings provide valuable insights for nursing homes seeking to transition towards a healthier and more sustainable food environment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Identifying age-related trend of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is necessary to assess whether kidney function is healthily aging. This study aimed to investigate the application of CKD-EPI, FAS, and Xiangya equations for the aging estimation of eGFR in the healthy Chinese individuals. METHODS A total of 36,911 healthy individuals were enrolled in this study. We grouped every ten years to observe the trend of eGFR with aging and investigated decline rate of it by general linear regression analysis in each age-groups. Agreement between equations was determined by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman plot. We calculated reference interval in each age-group. We further analyzed above statistical indicators in males and females. RESULTS The eGFR by CKD-EPI, and Xiangya equation started to decline from the age of 18. Whereas eGFR by FAS equation remained stable under 40 years, then decreased more rapidly. Compared with males, the females had a higher level but a faster decline rate of eGFR with aging. Agreement analysis revealed good agreement between CKD-EPI and FAS equations (ICC 0.818-0.920). Agreement between Xiangya and CKD-EPI or FAS equations was poor to moderate in most of the population under 70 years old (ICC 0.282-0.786), but good in individuals above 70 years (ICC 0.769-0.881). CONCLUSIONS The trend of eGFR with aging was different by CKD-EPI, FAS, and Xiangya equations in the healthy Chinese. It may be necessary to take these equations- or age-related differences into consideration when assessing kidney function in primary health care and clinical practice.

Abstract
The concept of healthy life expectancy (HLE) integrates the ideas of life expectancy and health status, providing a valuable metric to evaluate both the length and quality of life. This paper seeks to aid policymakers in creating an inclusive HLE indicator system through a systematic review of methodologies for defining and measuring HLE, along with relevant published studies' descriptions. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews statement, two English language literature databases were researched from January 2020 to April 2023. Findings from empirical HLE-related studies were analyzed by extracting data on the study area, design, population, healthy state measurement tools, and results of studies using HLE indicators. The current analysis encompassed 48 empirical studies. Researchers discerned 11 unique HLE indicators within this corpus, each concentrating on a particular aspect. Furthermore, the analysis revealed 18 diverse instruments for evaluating health statuses, each varying in its definition of a healthy state, dimensions of measurement, and the categories of data employed. Therefore, merging global health concepts, HLE indicators, methodologies for assessing healthy states, and applied research demonstrations are essential for a consolidated HLE indicator system creation.

Abstract
The search for plant-based superfoods has shown that many regional populations already have these foods in their diet, with significant potential for production and marketing. This critical review intends to show the history, diversity, characteristics, and uses, emphasizing their significance in traditional diets and potential in the food industry of Peruvian fava beans. As a valuable plant-based protein source, fava beans offer essential micronutrients and have diverse culinary applications. Innovative food industry applications include plant-based meat alternatives, fortified gluten-free products, and a natural color, protein, and fiber source in extruded foods. Key studies have highlighted the successful incorporation of fava beans into various food products, improving their nutritional properties, though some studies also point to limitations in their sensory acceptance. Further research is needed to understand the bioactive components, health effects, and techno-functional characteristics of beans. Challenges facing cultivating and consuming fava beans in Peru include adapting to climate change, enhancing productivity and quality, and promoting consumption and added value. Addressing these challenges involves developing climate-resilient varieties, optimizing agricultural practices, and providing access to resources and financing. In conclusion, this review highlights the promising prospects of Peruvian fava beans as a sustainable, nutritionally rich, and versatile ingredient in the food industry. Abstract
The development of rice active compounds is conducive to improving the added value of rice. This paper focused on the types and effects of active compounds in rice. Furthermore, it summarized the effect of rice storage and processing technology on rice active compounds. We conclude the following: Rice contains a large number of active compounds that are beneficial to humans. At present, the research on the action mechanism of rice active compounds on the human body is not deep enough, and the ability to deeply process rice is insufficient, greatly limiting the development of the rice active compound industry. To maximize the added value of rice, it is necessary to establish a dedicated preservation and processing technology system based on the physicochemical properties of the required active compounds. Additionally, attention should be paid to the development and application of composite technologies during the development of the rice active compound industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is a herb of medicinal and nutritional importance. Ginseng has been used since ancient times for the treatment of numerous ailments as it has many therapeutic properties. Several phytoconstituents are present in Panax ginseng that possess a variety of beneficial pharmacological properties. OBJECTIVE To explore the potential of phytoconstituents of Panax ginseng in the treatment of depression, a molecular modeling technique was utilized targeting monoamine oxidase-A (MAOA). METHODS A total of sixty-one phytoconstituents of ginseng were drawn with the help of ChemBioDraw Ultra 12.0 software and PDBs for MAO-A enzyme were retrieved from the RCSB PDB database. The prepared ligands were screened for MAO-A properties using the software Molegro Virtual Docker (MVD 2010.4.1.0). All the prepared ligands were evaluated for drug-likeliness properties using Swiss ADME. RESULT Among the docking studies of 60 Ginseng phytochemicals including one standard, 15 phytoconstituents with the highest dock score and better binding interactions were selected further for absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) studies. Stachyose (-227.287, 17 interactions), Raffinose (-222.157, 14 interactions), and Ginsenoside Rg1 (-216.593, 10 interactions) were found to possess better interactions as compared to Clorgyline taken as a standard drug. CONCLUSION Stachyose was found to be the most potent inhibitor of MAO-A enzyme under investigation and can be a potential lead molecule for the development of newer phytochemical-based treatment of depression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Congenital tracheal hypoplasia is a component of airway syndrome affecting a wide variety of brachycephalic dog breeds. Several radiographic procedures were utilized to assess vertical tracheal diameter (VTD) in dogs. The objective of this study was to calculate the tracheal indices at the caudal cervical, thoracic-inlet, and intra-thoracic tracheal regions on the right lateral thoracic radiograph to further establish a screening protocol for diagnosis of tracheal hypoplasia in non-bulldog brachycephalic breeds. Dogs without clinical or radiographic evidence of tracheal, respiratory, or cardiovascular abnormalities were investigated. The absolute and average VTDs were normalized by manubrium length (ML), thoracic-inlet distance (Ti-D), and proximal 3rd rib width (PR3-W). Manubrium-tracheal index (M-TI), thoracic inlet-tracheal index (Ti-TI), and proximal R3-tracheal score (PR3-TS) were calculated. Correlations between averaged VTD and each of the normalizing parameters (ML, Ti-D, and PR3-W), and between M-TI and each of the previously established procedures (Ti-TI and PR3-TS) were determined. RESULTS Eighty healthy subjects met the inclusion criteria for the study. There were significant differences (P ≤ 0.0001) among the means of absolute and normalized VTDs at the 3 tracheal levels. The smallest VTD was identified at the thoracic inlet. The average tracheal diameter showed a better correlation with ML (rs=0.81, P < 0.0001) compared to Ti-D and PR3-W. There was a strong correlation (rs=0.83, P < 0.0001) between the averaged M-TI and Ti-TI. CONCLUSION Radiographic M-TI could be an alternative to traditional procedures to assess the tracheal lumen in non-bulldog brachycephalic dogs. M-TI < 0.39, < 0.30, or < 0.34 at caudal cervical, thoracic inlet, or intrathoracic trachea, respectively, may indicate tracheal hypoplasia in non-bulldog brachycephalic breeds. Screening of tracheal diameter using M-TI should be recommended. However, further investigation of non-bulldog brachycephalic breeds with cardiac and/or respiratory disease is indicated.

Abstract
Precise motor timing requires the ability to flexibly adapt one's own movements with respect to changes in the environment. Previous studies suggest that the correction of perceived as compared to non-perceived timing errors involves at least partially distinct brain networks. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dPFC) has been linked to the correction of perceived timing errors and evidence for a contribution of the ventrolateral PFC (vPFC) specifically to the correction of non-perceived errors exists. The present study aimed at clarifying the functional contribution of the left vPFC for the correction of timing errors by adopting high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS). Twenty-one young healthy volunteers synchronized their right index finger taps with respect to an isochronous auditory pacing signal. Perceivable and non-perceivable step-changes of the metronome were interspersed, and error correction was analyzed by means of the phase-correction response (PCR). In subsequent sessions anodal and cathodal HD-tDCS was applied to the left vPFC to establish a brain-behavior relationship. Sham stimulation served as control condition. Synchronization accuracy as well as error correction were determined immediately prior to and after HD-tDCS. The analysis suggests a detrimental effect of cathodal HD-tDCS distinctively on error correction in trials with perceived timing errors. The data support the significance of the left vPFC for error correction in the temporal domain but contradicts the view of a role in the correction of non-perceived errors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although non-pharmacological smoking cessation measures have been widely used among smokers, current research evidence on the effects of smoking cessation is inconsistent and of mixed quality. Moreover, there is a lack of comprehensive evidence synthesis. This study seeks to systematically identify, describe, and evaluate the available evidence for non-pharmacological interventions in smoking populations through evidence mapping (EM), and to search for best-practice smoking cessation programs. METHODS A comprehensive search for relevant studies published from the establishment of the library to January 8, 2023, was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, CBM, Wan Fang, and VIP. Two authors independently assessed eligibility and extracted data. The PRISMA statement and AMSTAR 2 tool were used to evaluate the report quality and methodology quality of systematic reviews/meta-analyses (SRs/MAs), respectively. Bubble plots were utilized to display information, such as the study population, intervention type, evidence quality, and original study sample size. RESULTS A total of 145 SRs/MAs regarding non-pharmacological interventions for smoking cessation were investigated, with 20 types of interventions identified. The most commonly used interventions were cognitive behaviour education (n = 32, 22.07%), professional counselling (n = 20, 13.79%), and non-nicotine electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) (n = 13, 8.97%). Among them, counselling and behavioural support can improve smoking cessation rates, but the effect varies depending on the characteristics of the support provided. These findings are consistent with previous SRs/MAs. The general population (n = 108, 74.48%) was the main cohort included in the SRs/MAs. The total score of PRISMA for the quality of the reports ranged from 8 to 27, and 13 studies (8.97%) were rated as high confidence, and nine studies (6.21%) as moderate confidence, in the AMSTAR 2 confidence rating. CONCLUSIONS The abstinence effect of cognitive behaviour education and money incentive intervention has advantages, and non-nicotine e-cigarettes appear to help some smokers transition to less harmful replacement tools. However, the methodological shortcomings of SRs/MAs should be considered. Therefore, to better guide future practice in the field of non-pharmacological smoking cessation, it is essential to improve the methodological quality of SRs and carry out high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Abstract
Tobacco research remains a clear priority to improve individual and population health, and has recently become more complex with emerging combustible and noncombustible tobacco products. The use of omics methods in prevention and cessation studies are intended to identify new biomarkers for risk, compared risks related to other products and never use, and compliance for cessation and reinitation. to assess the relative effects of tobacco products to each other. They are important for the prediction of reinitiation of tobacco use and relapse prevention. In the research setting, both technical and clinical validation is required, which presents a number of complexities in the omics methodologies from biospecimen collection and sample preparation to data collection and analysis. When the results identify differences in omics features, networks or pathways, it is unclear if the results are toxic effects, a healthy response to a toxic exposure or neither. The use of surrogate biospecimens (e.g., urine, blood, sputum or nasal) may or may not reflect target organs such as the lung or bladder. This review describes the approaches for the use of omics in tobacco research and provides examples of prior studies, along with the strengths and limitations of the various methods. To date, there is little consistency in results, likely due to small number of studies, limitations in study size, the variability in the analytic platforms and bioinformatic pipelines, differences in biospecimen collection and/or human subject study design. Given the demonstrated value for the use of omics in clinical medicine, it is anticipated that the use in tobacco research will be similarly productive.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clinical trials to treat childhood obesity show modest results, weight regain and high dropout rates. Children with obesity often live in families with habits that contribute to unhealthy weight gain. This study will test whether a family intervention with a Brazilian-adapted Planetary Healthy Diet (PHD) and reduced portion sizes, along with increased physical activity and reduced sedentary behavior, can reduce excessive weight gain. The protocol promotes the intake of in natura products and water and reduces ultra-processed foods, sugar, and sodium. It encourages family lifestyle changes and physical activities, with randomized allocation to experimental and control groups. The responsible family member will be evaluated during follow-up. The control group will receive a print of the Brazilian dietary guideline. METHODS A factorial crossover design will also allocate families to receive reduced sodium salt plus anti-inflammatory herbs and a placebo salt. Both the control and intervention groups will be randomly assigned to the sequence of both salts. The approach aims to reduce body weight expectations and evaluate salt's impact on blood pressure. It includes a 1-month intervention, 1-month washout, and 1-month intervention with monthly clinic visits and teleservice by health professionals. The primary outcomes will be the variation in the Body Mass Index (BMI) of the children. BMI and the variation in the blood pressure of the pair (child/mother or father) as well as waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) will also be measured. DISCUSSION The project will test the effectiveness of the use of the recommendations of the PHD, physical activity and a salt-reduced sodium. The results of the present study will allow the refinement of interventions aimed at the treatment of childhood obesity and may help develop guidelines for the treatment of obesity in Brazilian children. TRIAL REGISTRATION The study is registered in the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (RBR-10 mm62vs). Registered 10 February 2023.

Abstract
U.S. Hispanic/Latino adults are at heightened risk for developing diet-related chronic diseases. Healthcare provider recommendations have shown to be effective for promoting health behavior change, but little is known about healthcare provider healthy eating recommendations among Hispanics/Latinos. To investigate the prevalence of and adherence to healthcare provider-delivered healthy eating recommendations among a U.S. sample of Hispanic/Latino adults, participants (N = 798; M = 39.6±15.1 years; 52% Mexican/Mexican American) were recruited via Qualtrics Panels to complete an online survey in January 2018. Most (61%) participants reported having ever received a healthcare provider-delivered dietary recommendation. Higher body mass index (AME = 0.015 [0.009, 0.021]) and having a chronic health condition (AME = 0.484 [0.398, 0.571]) were positively associated with receiving a dietary recommendation while age (AME = -0.004 [-0.007, -0.001]) and English proficiency (AME = -0.086 [-0.154, -0.018]) were negatively associated. Participants reported adhering regularly (49.7%) and sometimes (44.4%) to recommendations. There were no significant associations with patient characteristics and adherence to a healthcare provider-delivered dietary recommendation. Findings inform next steps toward increasing implementation of brief dietary counseling from healthcare providers to support prevention and management of chronic diseases among this under-studied population.

Abstract
Brown algae are considered one of the resources that can contribute to transforming our global food system by promoting healthier diets and reducing environmental impact. In this sense, this review article aims to provide up-to-date information on the nutritional and functional improvement of brown algae when they are applied to different food matrices. Brown algae present sulfated polysaccharides (alginates, fucoidans, and laminarins), proteins, minerals, vitamins, dietary fibers, fatty acids, pigments, and bioactive compounds that can positively contribute to the development of highly nutritious food products, as well as used reformulate products already existing, to remove, reduce, increase, add and/or replace different components and obtain products that confer health-promoting properties. This review demonstrates that there is a tendency to use seaweed for the production of functional foods and that the number of commercially produced products from seaweed is increasing, that is, seaweed is a sector whose global market is expanding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The purpose is to analyze choroidal vascular density (VD) in healthy individuals and to compare it with choroidal thickness (CT). MATERIALS AND METHODS Cross-sectional study enrolling healthy individuals between 18 and 35 years old of Caucasian race and with an axial length (AL) 21-26 mm. Choroid was imaged with swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) Triton DRI (Topcon) and a macular cube of 6 x 6 mm was obtained. CT values were automatically given by the software. VD values were obtained through codifying colors of the VD map into numbers. RESULTS 102 (51 patients) were analyzed. Mean age was 27.32 ± 3.94 years old, mean intraocular pressure was 18.07 ± 2.38 mmHg, and mean AL was 23.71 ± 0.66 mm. CT was higher in the vertical axis and lower when approaching nasal and temporal sides. The highest CT was in superior macula. The highest choroidal VD were in the fovea and in the juxtapapillary region. The lowest choroidal VD were found in superior and inferior macular areas. Moderate inverse correlations between CT and choroidal VD were found in the juxtapapillary and inferior regions. CONCLUSIONS The choroid has a thickness pattern that differs from retina. Choroidal vessels represent a very high percentage of choroid in the peripapillary region and in the fovea. On the contrary, superior and inferior macula reveals low values of VD.

Abstract
Ultrasonography (US) of the nail is raising interest in the last years and its feasibility, quickness and amount of descriptive data may provide valuable information. Different authors presented several scanning approaches to nail complex in different pathological conditions, such as psoriasis, but no scanning protocol was ever proposed using healthy subjects as population of reference. The aim of the study was to establish a protocol for the US of nail plate and to assess whether the measurement of the nail plate is influenced by longitudinal vs transverse scan, sex, digit and hand dominance. Using high frequency probe and a Canon Aplio i800 machine, ultrasonographers took scans of nail plates of the hands from healthy subjects. Nail plate shape, thickness and power Doppler signal (PDUS) were evaluated and scans were taken both on longitudinal and transverse axis, at distal, middle and proximal portion of the nail plate or at a fixed angles of - 45°, 0° or + 45°. All the images were then revised and scored using a DICOM software, in order to allow good standards of accuracy and reproducibility. A total of 27 subjects (14 females and 13 males) were assessed. The measures did not result to differ in different portions or angles. Furthermore, no difference appears in sex or dominant vs not dominant hand. A decreasing and significant trend for nail plate thickness was found from the first to the fifth finger. Doppler signal was found in all but one subjects, with a range from almost absent to very evident. No difference was found between groups regarding PDUS. The data provided suggest that a proper scan protocol should include all the nails and evaluation should be done both on longitudinal and transverse axis. Since Doppler signal is highly variable in healthy subjects, its presence should be carefully considered as pathological finding. Observations provided by this study clarify important points of the scanning technique and solve doubts related to which nails should be scanned and where to evaluate quantitative parameters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Biological age (BA) may reflect the actual aging state in humans better than chronological age (CA). The study aimed to construct BA models suitable for the Chinese Han population by selecting appropriate aging markers and evaluation methods. METHODS A total of 1207 individuals (21∼91 years) from the Han Chinese population in Beijing were examined for essential organ functions, and 156 cardiovascular, pulmonary function, and atherosclerotic indices and clinical and genetic factors were used as candidate markers of aging. BA models were constructed using multiple linear regression (MLR), principal component analysis (PCA), and the Klemera and Doubal method (KDM). Models were internally and externally validated using cross-validation and disease populations. RESULTS Nine aging markers were selected. Two MLR, three PCA, and three KDM models were successfully constructed. External validation showed that the difference between CA and BA was most significant in the PCA3 and KDM2 models, while there was no significant difference in the MLR1 and MLR2 models; the fitted lines for BA in the disease population were higher than those in the healthy population in the MLR1, MLR2, KDM1, and KDM2 models, while the other models showed the opposite. CONCLUSIONS Based on a healthy population in Beijing, nine markers representing multiple organ/system functions were screened from the candidate markers, eight methods were successfully used to construct BA models, and the KDM2 model was found to potentially be more appropriate for assessing BA in the Chinese Han population.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most common injuries of the knee. Women have a higher injury rate for ACL ruptures than men. Various indicators for this sex-specific difference are controversially discussed. AIM A systematic review of the literature that compares surface electromyography (EMG) values of adult female and male subjects to find out if there is a difference in neuromuscular activation of the knee stabilizing muscles. METHODS This systematic review has been guided and informed by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies which examined sex-specific differences with surface EMG measurements (integral, root mean squares, mean values, analysis of time and amplitude) of the knee stabilizing muscles were retrieved via searches from the databases PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, CENTRAL and SPORTDiscus. The risk of bias of included studies was assessed with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) study quality assessment tool. A synthesis of results was performed for relevant outcomes. RESULTS Fifteen studies with 462 healthy participants, 233 women (mean age 21.9 (± 2.29) years) and 299 men (mean age 22.6 (± 2.43) years), were included in the systematic review. The methodological quality of the studies was mostly rated "fair" (40%). A significantly higher activity of the muscles vastus lateralis and vastus medialis was found in females, in three studies. Two studies found significantly lower neuromuscular activity in the muscles biceps femoris and semitendinosus in females. All other included studies found no significant differences or reported even contradicting results. CONCLUSION The controversial findings do not allow for a concluding answer to the question of a sex-specific neuromuscular activation. Further research with higher statistical power and a more homogeneous methodical procedure (tasks and data normalisation) of the included studies may provide insight into possibly existing sex-specific differences in neuromuscular activation. This systematic review could help to improve the methodical design of future studies to get a more valid conclusion of the issue. TRIAL REGISTRATION CRD42020189504.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-Hispanic Black Americans experience the highest, and most rapidly increasing, rates of obesity. Despite evidence that this is at least somewhat related to poor diet quality, we have yet to identify effective interventions for improving diet quality long-term. Restrictive diets can be ineffective and often harmful. In contrast, there is a well-established connection between home cooking and lower body mass index, better diet quality, and improved health. PURPOSE The present study applied the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to examine the effect of an intervention delivering cooking instruction, rather than nutrition information, on beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors pertaining to diet quality and cooking among Black adults in the USA. METHODS An online sample of Black Americans (N = 147), ages 18-76 (M = 30.69, SD = 10.42) were recruited via Prolific and randomized to view either a cooking tutorial video or a "standard of care" control webpage followed by either an implementation intentions (II) writing activity or a "freestyle" control writing activity. Cognitions and behavior related to healthy eating and cooking were measured at baseline, post-intervention, and 1-week follow-up. RESULTS Results of mixed-effects modeling indicated that participants randomized to the video condition reported significantly greater post-intervention intentions to cook (p < .001), which positively correlated with cooking behavior over the subsequent week (p < .01). There was no effect of the II intervention on subsequent-week behavior (ps > .413). Importantly, 75% (n = 105) indicated experiencing food insecurity at the time of data collection. CONCLUSIONS These results highlight a promising pathway for improving nutrition and diet-related health outcomes among Black Americans while highlighting that any intervention must account for food insecurity in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND SuperAging is one of the current concepts related to elite, resilient or high-functioning cognitive aging. The main aim of our study was to find possible predictors of SuperAgers (SA). METHODS Community-dwelling older persons (N = 96) aged 80-101 years in 2018 were repeatedly tested (year 2012 and 2018). SA were defined based on their performance in 2018 as persons of 80+ years of age who recalled ≥ 9 words in the delayed recall of the Philadelphia Verbal Learning Test, and had a normal performance in non-memory tasks [the Boston Naming Test, the Trail Making Test Part B, and Category Fluency ("Animals")], which was defined as a score within or above one standard deviation from the age and education appropriate average. Three composite scores (CS; immediate memory, processing speed, and executive functions) were created from the performance in 2012, and analysed as possible predictors of SA status in 2018. RESULTS We identified 19 SA (15 females) and 77 nonSA (42 females), groups did not significantly differ in age, years of education, and sex. The logistic regression model (p = 0.028) revealed three predictors of SA from the baseline (year 2012), including processing speed (p = 0.006; CS-speed: the Prague Stroop Test-Dots and the Digit Symbol Substitution Test), sex (p = 0.015), and age (p = 0.045). CONCLUSIONS Thus, SA may be predicted based on the level of processing speed, which supports the hypothesis of the processing speed theory of healthy aging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurses are the largest health professional body globally. Despite the significant role they play in healthcare, nurses exhibit poor dietary habits and have high rates of chronic diseases. Understanding the factors underlying healthy eating for nurses in the workplace is important to implement effective interventions. OBJECTIVE To identify enablers and barriers related to healthy eating among nurses employed in a hospital setting. DESIGN A systematic literature review of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research (PROSPERO ID: CRD42021290913). DATA SOURCES A comprehensive systematic search was conducted across PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science and ProQuest databases for papers published after January 2015. METHODS Two authors independently screened titles and abstracts of 4139 deduplicated studies, performed critical appraisals on eligible studies using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool and extracted data relevant to the research question. This review includes papers that examined nurses' eating behaviours specifically, were conducted in a hospital setting and distinguished healthy eating from other behaviours. Data synthesis was conducted through descriptive summarisation of studies and enablers and barriers were classified according to the socio-ecological model. RESULTS A total of 29 studies were identified with 8024 participants. 8 studies were qualitative, 18 quantitative, and 3 were mixed method design. At an environmental level, barriers were high accessibility and availability of unhealthy foods, high cost and low availability of healthy foods and lack of storage and preparation facilities, while an enabler was close proximity to healthy options. Novel organisational enablers were considered roster planning which allowed for established routines around meals, and structured workplace programs that encouraged improvement in health behaviours, while barriers were shift work, inconsistent rosters and high work demands. An interpersonal enabler was supportive networks while barriers were work culture, social norms of celebrations and gifts of food from patients. Finally, intrapersonal barriers were stress and fatigue, personal values, beliefs, attitudes, and individual characteristics, with the latter two also acting as enablers. CONCLUSIONS This review identifies the complexity and interconnectedness of enablers and barriers to healthy eating across four domains of the socio-ecological model. Multi-faceted strategies which address factors across several domains are recommended for healthcare organisations to facilitate healthy eating among nurses. Further research is needed to assess these strategies and understand the extent to which eating behaviours can be improved.

Abstract
Background With larger blood volume flowing into a cardiac chamber, by stretching muscle fibers, increased contraction force could be detected. This phenomenon is called Frank-Starling mechanism, allowing the output of a cardiac chamber to be synchronized without external regulation. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the Frank-Starling mechanism in the right atrium (RA) represented by its volumes, volume-based functional properties and strains respecting the cardiac cycle in healthy adults by three-dimensional (3D) speckle-tracking echocardiography (3DSTE). Methods The present single center retrospective cohort study comprised 179 healthy adult volunteers (mean age: 33.2±12.0 years, 92 males), in whom complete two-dimensional Doppler echocardiography with 3DSTE was performed. Subjects were divided into 3 groups according to the mean value of maximum RA volume (Vmax) ± standard deviation: Vmax <30 mL, 30 mL ≤ Vmax <60 mL and Vmax ≥60 mL. Results All RA volumes respecting the cardiac cycle of all subjects and calculated separately for females and males and their indexed equivalents increased with Vmax. RA stroke volumes increased with Vmax regardless of the phase it was measured in. While total atrial emptying fraction representing the reservoir phase remained unchanged with the increase of Vmax, a significant increase in passive atrial emptying fraction representing the conduit phase could be detected, in case of Vmax >60 mL (28.9%±15.1% vs. 32.5%±12.6%, P<0.05). Active atrial emptying fraction representing the booster pump function did not change with the increase of Vmax. Most global and mean segmental peak RA strains did not show significant changes with increasing RA volumes except for the RA area strain, it was the largest when Vmax was larger than 60 mL (64.7%±44.9% vs. 83.3%±49.4%, P<0.05). RA circumferential, longitudinal and area strains at atrial contraction decreased with increasing Vmax, RA radial and 3D strains did not change significantly with increasing Vmax. Conclusions Increasing RA volumes do not cause significant increase in RA contractility represented by strains, but reduction in strains in longitudinal and circumferential directions could be detected in end-diastolic booster pump function. In contrast to the left atrium, obvious signs of Frank-Starling mechanism could not be detected in case of the RA.

Abstract
This study sought to compare the Schirmer Tear Test (STT)-1 results at 30 (STT30) versus 60 (STT60) seconds in healthy horses. This study included a total of 56 healthy horses. STT-1 was performed in both eyes, right eye first, and the wetting lengths were measured in STT30 and STT60. To evaluate the reduction of the initial reflex phase, the wetting length velocity was measured during the first 30 seconds. The effects of eye, age, weight, sex, and ambient temperature and humidity on STT values were evaluated. Mean (standard deviation) STT30 and STT60 were 19.06 (3.88) and 24.26 (4.50) mm. There was a linear correlation between the STT 30 and STT60, expressed according to the following equation: STT60 = 2.20 + 1.18 × STT30 (P = .001). STT30 or STT60 values did not vary between the sexes or correlate with age, weight, ambient temperature, or humidity. In conclusion, STT30 allows for an accurate, reliable, and applicable diagnosis of tear production compared with the standard STT60 value. The proposed method is shorter and may be a suitable alternative to the 1-min test.

Abstract
Background Three-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (3DSTE) is a relatively new non-invasive imaging modality with ability for simultaneous chamber quantifications and determination of valvular dimensions. The aim of the present retrospective cohort study was to determine normal reference values of 3DSTE-derived tricuspid annular (TA) dimensions and functional properties and to evaluate their age- and gender dependency. Methods The present study comprised 156 healthy adult subjects, from which 28 cases were excluded due to inferior image quality, therefore the remaining group consisted of 128 cases with the mean age of 35.4±12.5 years (72 males). The subject population was further divided into the following categories: 18-29 years (n=57; mean age: 25.2±2.8 years, 51 males), 30-39 years (n=29; mean age: 34.1±2.5 years, 31 males), 40-49 years (n=17; mean age: 44.1±3.2 years, 11 males) and ≥50 years of age (n=25, mean age: 59.2±6.4 years, 14 males). Results End-diastolic TA diameter (2.2±0.3 vs. 2.5±0.3 cm, P<0.05), area (7.1±1.3 vs. 8.1±1.7 cm2, P<0.05) and perimeter (10.3±0.9 vs. 11.0±1.2 cm, P<0.05) were lower in females than in males in the 18-29 year-old group and TA area (6.1±0.8 vs. 8.0±1.2 cm2, P<0.05) and TA perimeter (9.7±0.8 vs. 11.0±0.9 cm, P<0.05) were lower in females than in males in the 40-49 year-old group. End-systolic TA diameter were lower in females than in males in the 18-29 year-old group (1.8±0.2 vs. 1.9±0.3 cm, P<0.05) and TA area (4.7±0.3 vs. 6.3±1.2 cm2, P<0.05) and TA perimeter (8.6±0.4 vs. 9.5±0.9 cm, P<0.05) were lower in females than in males in the 40-49 year-old group. TA fractional area change was found to be reduced in the 40-49 year-old group as compared to the 30-39 year-old group (21.7%±8.7% vs. 29.2%±10.0%, P<0.05). Conclusions 3DSTE is a novel method for non-invasive assessment of TA dimensions and functional properties. Results highlight the importance of age- and gender-specific reference values in case of TA diameter, area and perimeter and calculated functional features respecting the cardiac cycle.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Describe the measurements of systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressure in healthy term and late preterm newborns to establish normal values. METHODS Cross-sectional study carried out in the nursery of the Hospital Español, located in Mexico City. A sample of 551 healthy newborns were included in the study. Blood pressure (BP) measurements were taken within the first 48 hours of life with the oscillometric method. After the evaluation of normality, a descriptive analysis of the population and calculation of percentiles (25, 50 and 75) specific for each week of gestation was performed. All analyzes were performed in STATA v14.2. RESULTS Male newborns had a mean SBP value of 64.6 mmHg at week 35 of gestation, this value increased to 69.8 mmHg at week 40; the systolic blood pressure (SBP) value was 42.6 mmHg at week 35 of gestation, which decreased to 40.8 mmHg at week 40. The mean SBP values in female newborns were 65.5 mmHg at week 35, increasing to 73.5 mmHg at week 40; the diastolic blood pressure (DBP) value at week 35 of gestation was 38 mmHg, increasing to 41.3 mmHg at week 40. CONCLUSIONS The BP values in healthy newborns are modified by the gestational age and sex of the patients. These results can serve as a reference for other physicians located in countries or cities with a similar altitude than the one in Mexico City.

Abstract
Introduction There is no global reference value for the 6-minute walking distance (6MWD) in paediatric populations, as it can vary greatly depending on local characteristics and anthropometric measures. This study aimed to identify a 6MWD reference value that could be applied in both local and regional settings. Method This cross-sectional multicentre study investigated a healthy paediatric population aged 4-18 years in Indonesia. The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) was conducted in accordance with the American Thoracic Society guidelines. Data were presented as the 6MWD according to age and sex per year. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted on the basis of the 6MWDpred Rizky formula. Results A total of 634 participants were included in this study. Age, sex, weight, leg length and height affected the 6MWD (P<0.001). In the regression model, sex and height were the predictors of 6MWD, with height as the best single predictor. Conclusion The reference charts and 6MWDpred Rizky formula are applicable in multi-ethnic paediatric Indonesian populations but in limited settings.

Abstract
PURPOSE Under the umbrella of social cognitive theory, we examined the influences of personal, environmental, and behavioral factors on adherence to healthy eating behaviors among colorectal cancer survivors. METHODS Based on Pluye and Hong's framework, a systematic mixed studies review was conducted. An extensive search strategy was applied in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, and PsycINFO (from date of record to 2022 January 22). The pillar integration process was employed to integrate the extracted data. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool was used to appraise the quality of all retained studies. RESULTS Twenty-eight studies with a total sample size of 5106 were included in the analysis, with 15 quantitative studies, 12 qualitative studies, and 1 mixed method study. The critical appraisal showed that 22 of the 28 studies (79%) were rated with five stars, while 6 (21%) were rated with four stars. The personal factors influencing adherence to healthy eating behaviors among colorectal cancer survivors included outcome expectancies, self-efficacy, psychological factors, knowledge about healthy eating, demographic and disease characteristics, environmental factors incorporated outside information on healthy eating, power of surrounding people, social activities, cultural milieus, socioeconomic status, and education. The behavioral factors included self-regulation of diet, goals, and other behaviors closely related to healthy eating behaviors. CONCLUSIONS Adherence to healthy eating behaviors among colorectal cancer survivors was influenced collectively by personal factors, environmental factors and behavioral factors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Streptococcus agalactiae or group B Streptococcus (GBS) asymptomatically colonizes the genitourinary tracts of up to 30% of pregnant women. Globally, GBS is an important cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. GBS has recently been linked to adverse pregnancy outcomes. The potential interactions between GBS and the vaginal microbiome composition remain poorly understood. In addition, little is known about the vaginal microbiota of pregnant Egyptian women. RESULTS Using V3-V4 16S rRNA next-generation sequencing, we examined the vaginal microbiome in GBS culture-positive pregnant women (22) and GBS culture-negative pregnant women (22) during the third trimester in Ismailia, Egypt. According to the alpha-diversity indices, the vaginal microbiome of pregnant GBS culture-positive women was significantly more diverse and less homogenous. The composition of the vaginal microbiome differed significantly based on beta-diversity between GBS culture-positive and culture-negative women. The phylum Firmicutes and the family Lactobacillaceae were significantly more abundant in GBS-negative colonizers. In contrast, the phyla Actinobacteria, Tenericutes, and Proteobacteria and the families Bifidobacteriaceae, Mycoplasmataceae, Streptococcaceae, Corynebacteriaceae, Staphylococcaceae, and Peptostreptococcaceae were significantly more abundant in GBS culture-positive colonizers. On the genus and species levels, Lactobacillus was the only genus detected with significantly higher relative abundance in GBS culture-negative status (88%), and L. iners was the significantly most abundant species. Conversely, GBS-positive carriers exhibited a significant decrease in Lactobacillus abundance (56%). In GBS-positive colonizers, the relative abundance of the genera Ureaplasma, Gardnerella, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium, Staphylococcus, and Peptostreptococcus and the species Peptostreptococcus anaerobius was significantly higher. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways related to the metabolism of cofactors and vitamins, phosphatidylinositol signaling system, peroxisome, host immune system pathways, and host endocrine system were exclusively enriched among GBS culture-positive microbial communities. However, lipid metabolism KEGG pathways, nucleotide metabolism, xenobiotics biodegradation and metabolism, genetic information processing pathways associated with translation, replication, and repair, and human diseases (Staphylococcus aureus infection) were exclusively enriched in GBS culture-negative communities. CONCLUSIONS Understanding how perturbations of the vaginal microbiome contribute to pregnancy complications may result in the development of alternative, targeted prevention strategies to prevent maternal GBS colonization. We hypothesized associations between inferred microbial function and GBS status that would need to be confirmed in larger cohorts.

Abstract
In animal studies, β-nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) supplementation increases nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) concentrations and improves healthspan and lifespan with great safety. However, it is unclear if these effects can be transferred to humans. This randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, dose-dependent clinical trial included 80 middle-aged healthy adults being randomized for a 60-day clinical trial with once daily oral dosing of placebo, 300 mg, 600 mg, or 900 mg NMN. The primary objective was to evaluate blood NAD concentration with dose-dependent regimens. The secondary objectives were to assess the safety and tolerability of NMN supplementation, next to the evaluation of clinical efficacy by measuring physical performance (six-minute walking test), blood biological age (Aging.Ai 3.0 calculator), Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), and subjective general health assessment [36-Item Short Form Survey Instrument (SF-36)]. Statistical analysis was performed using the Per Protocol analysis with significant level set at p = 0.05. All 80 participants completed the trial without trial protocol violation. Blood NAD concentrations were statistically significantly increased among all NMN-treated groups at day 30 and day 60 when compared to both placebo and baseline (all p ≤ 0.001). Blood NAD concentrations were highest in the groups taking 600 mg and 900 mg NMN. No safety issues, based on monitoring adverse events (AEs), laboratory and clinical measures, were found, and NMN supplementation was well tolerated. Walking distance increase during the six-minute walking test was statistically significantly higher in the 300 mg, 600 mg, and 900 mg groups compared to placebo at both days 30 and 60 (all p < 0.01), with longest walking distances measured in the 600 mg and 900 mg groups. The blood biological age increased significantly in the placebo group and stayed unchanged in all NMN-treated groups at day 60, which resulted in a significant difference between the treated groups and placebo (all p < 0.05). The HOMA-IR showed no statistically significant differences for all NMN-treated groups as compared to placebo at day 60. The change of SF-36 scores at day 30 and day 60 indicated statistically significantly better health of all three treated groups when compared to the placebo group (p < 0.05), except for the SF-36 score change in the 300 mg group at day 30. NMN supplementation increases blood NAD concentrations and is safe and well tolerated with oral dosing up to 900 mg NMN daily. Clinical efficacy expressed by blood NAD concentration and physical performance reaches highest at a dose of 600 mg daily oral intake. This trial was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04823260, and Clinical Trial Registry - India, CTRI/2021/03/032421.

Abstract
Purpose Exposure to cold air may harm the airways. It is unclear to what extent heavy exercise adds to the cold-induced effects on peripheral airways, airway epithelium, and systemic immunity among healthy individuals. We investigated acute effects of heavy exercise in sub-zero temperatures on the healthy airways. Methods Twenty-nine healthy individuals underwent whole body exposures to cold air in an environmental chamber at − 15 °C for 50 min on two occasions; a 35-min exercise protocol consisting of a 5-min warm-up followed by 2 × 15 min of running at 85% of VO2max vs. 50 min at rest. Lung function was measured by impulse oscillometry (IOS) and spirometry before and immediately after exposures. CC16 in plasma and urine, and cytokines in plasma were measured before and 60 min after exposures. Symptoms were surveyed pre-, during and post-trials. Results FEV1 decreased after rest (− 0.10 ± 0.03 L, p < 0.001) and after exercise (− 0.06 ± 0.02 L, p = 0.012), with no difference between trials. Exercise in − 15 °C induced greater increases in lung reactance (X5; p = 0.023), plasma CC16 (p < 0.001) as well as plasma IL-8 (p < 0.001), compared to rest. Exercise induced more intense symptoms from the lower airways, whereas rest gave rise to more general symptoms. Conclusion Heavy exercise during cold air exposure at − 15 °C induced signs of an airway constriction to a similar extent as rest in the same environment. However, biochemical signs of airway epithelial stress, cytokine responses, and symptoms from the lower airways were more pronounced after the exercise trial. Abstract
The relationship between structural and functional brain networks has been characterised as complex: the two networks mirror each other and show mutual influence but they also diverge in their organisation. This work explored whether a combination of structural and functional connectivity can improve the fit of regression models of cognitive performance. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was first applied to cognitive data from the Human Connectome Project to identify latent cognitive components: Executive Function, Self-regulation, Language, Encoding and Sequence Processing. A Principal Component Regression approach with embedded Step-Wise Regression (SWR-PCR) was then used to fit regression models of each cognitive domain based on structural (SC), functional (FC) or combined structural-functional (CC) connectivity. Executive Function was best explained by the CC model. Self-regulation was equally well explained by SC and FC. Language was equally well explained by CC and FC models. Encoding and Sequence Processing were best explained by SC. Evaluation of out-of-sample models' skill via cross-validation showed that SC, FC and CC produced generalisable models of Language performance. SC models performed most effectively at predicting Language performance in unseen sample. Executive Function was most effectively predicted by SC models, followed only by CC models. Self-regulation was only effectively predicted by CC models and Sequence Processing was only effectively predicted by FC models. The present study demonstrates that integrating structural and functional connectivity can help explaining cognitive performance, but that the added explanatory value (in sample) may be domain-specific and can come at the expense of reduced generalisation performance (out-of-sample).

Abstract
Objectives This study was done to obtain the reference data for the sural SNAP amplitude and latency at distances of 14, 12, and 10 cm from the active recording electrode in Indian healthy subjects for different age groups. Material and Methods Two hundred forty-four healthy subjects (18-80 years) were included in this cross-sectional study. Subjects were divided into six groups according to age. Sural SNAP was recorded antidromically stimulating at three sites (14, 12, and 10 cm from the recording electrode). The quantitative variables were expressed as Mean ± SD/Median (IQR) and compared using t test/ANOVA. Transformed data for amplitude were analyzed with the use of paired t test. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. SPSS version 20.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results Mean age of included subjects was 43.28 years. Maximum leg girth was at 14 cm. Analysis showed a significant difference in the leg girth at all three sites (P < 0.001). Sural SNAP latency at each stimulating site was compared in different age groups, no significant difference was found between groups (P = 0.19). Maximum amplitude was in the 18-30-years age group and amplitude was minimum in the 71-80-years age group (4.34 and 2.79, respectively). The difference in the amplitude recorded in the different age groups was found to be statistically different (P < 0.001). The difference in the amplitude recorded at each site was found to be statistically different (P < 0.001). Conclusion This is the first study with a large sample size (244 subjects) to provide age-stratified reference data for SNAP in the Indian population by using three sites of stimulation at distances of 14, 12, and 10 cm from the recording electrode. This study shows that sural SNAP amplitude varies with the age of the subject and distance from stimulation.

Abstract
Though the rabbit is a common animal model in musculoskeletal research, there are very limited data reported on healthy rabbit biomechanics. Our objective was to quantify the normative hindlimb biomechanics (kinematics and kinetics) of six New Zealand White rabbits (three male, three female) during the stance phase of gait. We measured biomechanics by synchronously recording sagittal plane motion and ground contact pressure using a video camera and pressure-sensitive mat, respectively. Both foot angle (i.e., angle between foot and ground) and ankle angle curves were unimodal. The maximum ankle dorsiflexion angle was 66.4 ± 13.4° (mean ± standard deviation across rabbits) and occurred at 38% stance, while the maximum ankle plantarflexion angle was 137.2 ± 4.8° at toe-off (neutral ankle angle = 90 degrees). Minimum and maximum foot angles were 17.2 ± 6.3° at 10% stance and 123.3 ± 3.6° at toe-off, respectively. The maximum peak plantar pressure and plantar contact area were 21.7 ± 4.6% BW/cm2 and 7.4 ± 0.8 cm2 respectively. The maximum net vertical ground reaction force and vertical impulse, averaged across rabbits, were 44.0 ± 10.6% BW and 10.9 ± 3.7% BW∙s, respectively. Stance duration (0.40 ± 0.15 s) was statistically significantly correlated (p < 0.05) with vertical impulse (Spearman's ρ = 0.76), minimum foot angle (ρ = -0.58), plantar contact length (ρ = 0.52), maximum foot angle (ρ = 0.41), and minimum foot angle (ρ = -0.30). Our study confirmed that rabbits exhibit a digitigrade gait pattern during locomotion. Future studies can reference our data to quantify the extent to which clinical interventions affect rabbit biomechanics.

Abstract
Objectives. The aim of this study was to develop a scale that assesses postural awareness and habits, as well as to establish the validity and reliability thereof. Methods. The 19-item Postural Habits and Awareness Scale was developed. The scale has a score range of 0-95, with a higher score indicating good posture and awareness. 278 healthy adults with an age range of 18-65 years were included in the study. The sociodemographic form, Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36), and Body Awareness Questionnaire (BAQ) were used to test the validity and reliability of this newly developed scale. Results. From factor analyses, it was observed that the items clustered in 4 factors, which explained 55.99% of the variance. The Cronbach's α for each factor of the scale varied between 0.619 and 0.832. A high correlation was observed regarding test-retest reliability of the scale (r: 0.905). Conclusion. This newly developed self-reported scale allows for the comprehensive determination of both postural habits and awareness together. The PHAS is a valid and reliable scale that can be used by professionals who are interested in posture.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthy aging index (HAI) could predict adverse health consequences including mortality and disability independent of age and comorbidity. We investigated the role of HAI on trajectories of disability throughout later life based on a nationally representative sample. METHODS We examined 1733 participants aged over 60 years from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) followed for 7 years/4 waves repeatedly. Systolic blood pressure [SBP], cognitive function, cystatin C, peak expiratory flow [PEF], and fasting glucose were categorized using tertile or clinical reference range, and scored as 0 (healthiest), 1 (less healthy) and 2 (least healthy) respectively to further generate HAI summary scores (range 0-10). Disability was defined as the sum of impaired activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). We used linear mixed-effects model to study the association between HAI and trajectories of disability. RESULTS A total of 10.5% of participants represented in the healthiest group and 22.5% ended up as the least healthy. After adjusting for all potential confounders, disability progression was significantly faster (β = 0.27, 95% CI 0.11-0.42) in the least healthy group when comparing with the healthiest. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that HAI is associated with disability progression among adults aged over 60 years old. It might be beneficial for future interventions to specifically target older adults with high HAI scores as a means of reducing disability.

Abstract
Prolonging survival in good health is a fundamental societal goal. However, the leading determinants of disability-free survival in healthy older people have not been well established. Data from ASPREE, a bi-national placebo-controlled trial of aspirin with 4.7 years median follow-up, was analysed. At enrolment, participants were healthy and without prior cardiovascular events, dementia or persistent physical disability. Disability-free survival outcome was defined as absence of dementia, persistent disability or death. Selection of potential predictors from amongst 25 biomedical, psychosocial and lifestyle variables including recognized geriatric risk factors, utilizing a machine-learning approach. Separate models were developed for men and women. The selected predictors were evaluated in a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model and validated internally by bootstrapping. We included 19,114 Australian and US participants aged ≥65 years (median 74 years, IQR 71.6-77.7). Common predictors of a worse prognosis in both sexes included higher age, lower Modified Mini-Mental State Examination score, lower gait speed, lower grip strength and abnormal (low or elevated) body mass index. Additional risk factors for men included current smoking, and abnormal eGFR. In women, diabetes and depression were additional predictors. The biased-corrected areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves for the final prognostic models at 5 years were 0.72 for men and 0.75 for women. Final models showed good calibration between the observed and predicted risks. We developed a prediction model in which age, cognitive function and gait speed were the strongest predictors of disability-free survival in healthy older people.Trial registration Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT01038583).

Abstract
Objectives This study explores the relationship between young women’s consumption of healthy and unhealthy food and depression and examines the moderating effect of their employment status on the relationship.
Methods The National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 79 for Children and Young Adults (NLSY79 CY) was used for this study. The final sample included a total of 1524 young women aged from 18 to 35 years. Multiple Linear Regression was conducted to answer the research questions. Results Fast food consumption was related to higher levels of depression among young women while fruit intake was associated with lower levels of depression. Employment status moderated the relationship between young women’s fruit consumption and depression. Conclusions Young women are encouraged to consume more fruit and less fast food in order to ameliorate depression. Programs that target young women’s mental health should consider addressing their nutritional needs, through, for example, vouchers for fresh, nutritious foods; nutrition or cooking education; or having a certified nutrition specialist on staff.

Abstract
A human spaceflight to Mars is scheduled for the next decade. In preparation for this unmatched endeavor, a plethora of challenges must be faced prior to the actual journey to Mars. Mission success will depend on the health of its crew and its working capacity. Hence, the journey to Mars will also depend on the microbiome and its far-reaching effects on individual crew health, the spaceship's integrity, and food supply. As human beings rely on their microbiome, these microbes are essential and should be managed to ensure their beneficial effects outweigh potential risks. In this commentary, we focus on the current state of knowledge regarding a healthy (gut) microbiome of space travelers based on research from the International Space Station and simulation experiments on Earth. We further indicate essential knowledge gaps of microbial conditions during long-term space missions in isolated confined space habitats or outposts and give detailed recommendations for microbial monitoring during pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight. Finally, the conclusion outlines open questions and aspects of space traveler's health beyond the scope of this commentary. Video Abstract.

Abstract
Housing is a key social determinant of health with implications for both physical and mental health. The measurement of healthy housing and studies characterizing the same in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are uncommon. This study described a methodological approach employed in the assessment and characterization of healthy housing in SSA using the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data for 15 countries and explored healthy housing determinants using a multiple survey-weighted logistic regression analysis. For all countries, we demonstrated that the healthy housing index developed using factor analysis reasonably satisfies both reliability and validity tests and can therefore be used to describe the distribution of healthy housing across different groups and in understanding the linkage with individual health outcomes. We infer from the results that unhealthy housing remains quite high in most SSA countries. Having a male head of the household was associated with decreased odds of healthy housing in Burkina Faso (OR = 0.80, CI = 0.68-0.95), Cameroon (OR = 0.65, CI = 0.57, 0.76), Malawi (OR = 0.70, CI = 0.64-0.78), and Senegal (OR = 0.62, CI = 0.51-0.74). Further, increasing household size was associated with reducing odds of healthy housing in Kenya (OR = 0.53, CI = 0.44-0.65), Namibia (OR = 0.34, CI = 0.24-0.48), Nigeria (OR = 0.57, CI = 0.46-0.71), and Uganda (OR = 0.79, CI = 0.67-0.94). Across all countries, household wealth was a strong determinant of healthy housing, with middle and rich households having higher odds of residing in healthy homes compared to poor households. Odds ratios ranged from 3.63 (CI = 2.96-4.44) for households in the middle wealth group in the DRC to 2812.2 (CI = 1634.8-4837.7) in Namibia's wealthiest households. For other factors, the analysis also showed variation across countries. Our findings provide timely insights for the implementation of housing policies across SSA countries, drawing attention to aspects of housing that would promote occupant health and wellbeing. Beyond the contribution to the measurement of healthy housing in SSA, our paper highlights key policy and program issues that need further interrogation in the search for pathways to addressing the healthy housing deficit across most SSA countries. This has become critical amid the COVID-19 pandemic, where access to healthy housing is pivotal in its control.

Abstract
RATIONALE Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), an active component of cannabis, can cause anxiety in some users during intoxication. Cannabidiol (CBD), another constituent of cannabis, has anxiolytic properties suggesting that cannabis products containing CBD in addition to THC may produce less anxiety than THC-only products. Findings to date around this issue have been inconclusive and could conceivably depend on moderating factors such as baseline anxiety levels in users. OBJECTIVE The present study examined whether anxiety following single doses of vaporised THC, CBD and THC/CBD might be explained by state and trait anxiety levels at baseline. METHODS A placebo-controlled, randomised, within-subjects study including 26 healthy recreational cannabis users tested the effects of vaporised THC-dominant cannabis (13.75 mg THC), CBD-dominant cannabis (13.75 mg CBD), THC/CBD-equivalent cannabis (13.75 mg THC/13.75 mg CBD) and placebo cannabis on anxiety. Self-rated trait anxiety was assessed with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). State levels of anxiety were objectively assessed with a computer-based emotional Stroop task (EST) and subjectively rated with the STAI-state questionnaire and a visual analogue scale. RESULTS Both THC and THC/CBD significantly increased self-rated state anxiety compared to placebo. State anxiety after THC/CBD was significantly lower than after THC alone. THC-induced anxiety was independent of anxiety at baseline. When baseline anxiety was low, CBD completely counteracted THC-induced anxiety; however, when baseline anxiety was high, CBD did not counteract THC-induced anxiety. There were no effects of any treatment condition on the EST. CONCLUSION Overall, the study demonstrated that the THC/CBD-equivalent cannabis induces less state anxiety than THC-dominant cannabis.

Abstract
Impaired mobility is the most common form of functional disability in the US, affecting one out of every sixteen working-age adults. Little is known about the barriers to and facilitators of healthy eating among people with impaired mobility (PWIM), who are at increased risk for diet-related chronic disease. The pathways by which impaired mobility influence dietary intake are unclear, yet likely involve a complex interplay between structural determinants of health and individual factors. To help advance nutrition equity initiatives for PWIM, this systematic review aimed to qualitatively synthesize factors associated with dietary intake across four levels of ecologic influence. An interprofessional team devised a comprehensive search strategy to identify these factors among working-age (18-64 years) PWIM. We queried Ovid MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase via Ovid for articles published between January 1, 1990 and April 25, 2021. Twelve studies met our review criteria. We classified factors within one of four ecologic levels of influence: individual, social, environmental, and policy/program. Most studies disproportionately reported on personal level factors of influence, with less information on other levels of influence. This systematic review is an important first step for informing the design of evidence-based strategies to support healthy eating among PWIM. However, it also reveals a wide chasm in the needed information to adequately bridge structural determinants of this nutrition divide. More studies are needed that include rigorous measures of dietary intake and that aim to elicit how social, environmental, and policy-level factors contribute to dietary disparities among PWIM.
