Abstract
Seven undescribed sesquiterpenes, including three dimeric guaianolide sesquiterpenes artemongolides G-I (1-3) and four sesquiterpene lactones artemanomalide D-G (16-19), along with seventeen known compounds isoabsinthin (4), absinthin (5), 11-eptabsinthin (6), 11, 11'-bis-epiabsinthin (7), 10', 11'- epiabsinthin (8), anabsinthin (9), isoanabsinthin (10), absinthin D (11), anabsin (12), caruifolin D (13), gnapholide (14), caruifolin C (15), 1β(R),10β(S)-dihydroxy-3-oxo-11β (S)H-4,11(13)-guaien-6α(S),12-olide (20), 1α,6α,8α-trihydroxy-5α,7βH-guaia-3,10(14),11(13)-trien-12-oic acid (21), 1α,6α,8α-trihydroxy-5α,7βH-guaia-3,9,11(13)-trien-12-oic acid (22), argyinolide J (23), artabsinolide A (24) were isolated from the plant Artemisia mongolica. The structures were determined by interpreting NMR, HRESIMS and ECD data. The X-ray crystal structure of 4, 7 and 8 were reported for the first time. In the anti-vitiligo activity test, compounds 2, 7, 12, 23 and 24 demonstrated activity in promoting melanogenesis at a concentration of 50 μM in B16 cells, with 8-methoxypsoralan (8-MOP) as a positive control. Further research on the mechanism revealed that artemongolides H (2) enhance the expression of MITF and TRPs by upregulating p-Akt and p-GSK-3β, leading to an increase in β-catenin content in the cell cytoplasm. Subsequently, β-catenin translocates into the nucleus, resulting in melanogenesis. The results supported the regulation of melanogenesis by artemongolide H (2) through the Akt/GSK3β/β-catenin signaling pathway. The anti-inflammatory results demonstrated that compounds 4, 5, 6, 9 and 14 can inhibit the upregulation of IL-6 mRNA and CCL2 mRNA expression. Compound 12 specifically inhibited the upregulation of IL-6 mRNA expression. These compounds exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activities. The activity results revealed that these sesquiterpene compounds have the potential to become lead compounds for the treatment of vitiligo and inflammatory diseases.

Abstract
Climate change caused by the greenhouse gases CO2 remains a topic of global concern. To mitigate the excessive levels of anthrophonic CO2 in the atmosphere, CO2 capture methods have been developed and among these, adsorption is an especially promising method. This paper presents a series of amine functionalized biochar obtained from desiccated coconut waste (amine-biochar@DCW) for use as CO2 adsorbent. They are ethylenediamine-functionalized biochar@DCW (EDA-biochar@DCW), diethylenetriamine-functionalized biochar@DCW (DETA-biochar@DCW), triethylenetetramine-functionalized biochar@DCW (TETA-biochar@DCW), tetraethylenepentamine-functionalized biochar@DCW (TEPA-biochar@DCW), and pentaethylenehexamine-functionalized biochar@DCW (PEHA-biochar@DCW). The adsorbents were obtained through amine functionalization of biochar and they are characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The CO2 adsorption study was conducted isothermally and using a thermogravimetric analyzer. From the results of the characterization analyses, a series of amine-biochar@DCW adsorbents had larger specific surface area in the range of 16.2 m2/g-37.1 m2/g as compare to surface area of pristine DCW (1.34 m2/g). Furthermore, the results showed an increase in C and N contents as well as the appearance of NH stretching, NH bending, CN stretching, and CN bending, suggesting the presence of amine on the surface of biochar@DCW. The CO2 adsorption experiment shows that among the amine modified biochar adsorbents, TETA-biochar@DCW has the highest CO2 adsorption capacity (61.78 mg/g) when using a mass ratio (m:m) of biochar@DCW:TETA (1:2). The adsorption kinetics on the TETA-biochar@DCW was best fitted by the pseudo-second model (R2 = 0.9998), suggesting the adsorption process occurs through chemisorption. Additionally, TETA-biochar@DCW was found to have high selectivity toward CO2 gas and good reusability even after five CO2 adsorption-desorption cycles. The results demonstrate the potential of novel CO2 adsorbents based on amine functionalized on desiccated coconut waste biochar.

Abstract
A novel sulfonated group and triethylenetetramine modified GO/chitosan (GO-CS) adsorbent (T-SGO-CS) was successfully prepared and utilized for the adsorption of heavy metal ions from single-metal, binary-metal, and ternary-metal solutions. In a single system, the adsorption capacity was 312.28 mg/g for Pb2+, 260.52 mg/g for Cd2+, and 84.61 mg/g for Ni2+, whereas, Adsorption of Pb(II), Cd(II), and Ni(II) in binary and ternary systems was systematically studied. In tertiary systems, the effect of competitive adsorption was more pronounced. In addition, T-SGO-CS exhibited a high adsorption capacity and was recyclable for Pb2+, Cd2+, and Ni2+. T-SGO-CS is a novel and highly efficient adsorbent for omnidirectionally enhancing the adsorption of Pb2+, Cd2+, and Ni2+, as demonstrated by these results. Therefore, T-SGO-CS could be investigated as a potential new material for future applications in heavy metal removal.

Abstract
Seven steroidal saponins including three new 16,23-cyclocholestanes (1-3) and one new pregane (4) were isolated from the roots of Dracaena cambodiana Pierre ex Gagnep. Their chemical structures were elucidated to be (23R,25R)-26-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-16,23-cyclocholesta-5,17(20)-dien-22-one-3β,16α,26-triol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)]-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), (23R,25R)-26-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-16,23-cyclocholesta-5,17,20(22)-trien-3β,22,26-triol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), (23R,25R)-16,23-cyclocholesta-5,16,20(22)-trien-3β,22,26-triol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-glucopyranoside (3), 3β-[(O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)]-β-D-gluco-pyranosyl)oxy]-pregna-5,17(20)-diene-16-one-20-carboxylic acid 4''''-O-β-D-glucopyranosylisopentyl ester (4), cambodianoside A (5), diosbulbiside C (6), and diosbulbiside D (7), by IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectra. Compounds 1 and 4-7 inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide activated RAW 264.7 cells with IC50 values ranging from 19.03±1.84 to 67.92±3.81 μM, whereas compounds 2 and 3 were inactive with IC50 values over 100 μM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Prevention of neurological worsening (NW) under therapy is an unmet need in the management of Wilson disease (WD). In this study, we aimed to characterize the occurrence, associated outcomes and potential reversibility of NW in WD. METHODS From a total cohort of 457 patients with WD, 128 patients with WD and neurological features at any time point (all Caucasian, 63 females, median age at diagnosis 22 years) were identified by chart review at University Hospital Heidelberg and grouped according to initial presentation. The timing and occurrence of NW was assessed following a structured clinical examination during clinical visits. RESULTS Early NW (within the first 3 months of therapy) was observed in 30 out of 115 (26.1%) patients with neurological or mixed presentation and never in patients with a purely hepatic or asymptomatic presentation (0%). Late NW (after >12 months) was seen in a further 23 (20%) with neurological or mixed presentation and in 13 out of 294 (4.4%) patients with a hepatic or asymptomatic presentation. The median time from start of treatment to late NW was 20 months. Only three patients experienced NW between 3 and 12 months. NW was observed with D-penicillamine, trientine and zinc therapy and was reversible in 15/30 (50%) with early NW and in 29/36 (81%) with late NW. CONCLUSIONS In this study, we identified two peaks in NW: an early (≤3 months) treatment-associated peak and a late (>12 months of treatment) adherence-associated peak. Early paradoxical NW was attributed to treatment initiation and pre-existing neurological damage, and was not observed in those with a hepatic or asymptomatic presentation. Late NW is likely to be associated with non-adherence. IMPACT AND IMPLICATIONS In patients with Wilson disease, defined as an excess accumulation of copper which can damage the liver, brain and other vital organs, neurological worsening can occur despite chelation therapy. The study identifies different patterns of 'early' (<3 months) vs. 'late' (>12 months) neurological worsening in relation to initiation of chelation therapy and establishes possible causes and the potential for reversibility. These data should be useful for counseling patients and for guiding the optimal management of chelation therapy.

Abstract
Gertia stigmatica is a recently described member of the Kareniaceae with a peridinin-containing plastid rather than the aberrant, haptophyte-derived, tertiary plastid found in canonical Kareniaceae genera such as Karenia, Karlodinium, and Takayama. G. stigmatica provides a unique opportunity to compare biochemical traits, such as sterol composition, between these two fundamentally different types of Kareniaceae. To this point, canonical members of the Kareniaceae have been observed to typically produce a set of 4α-methyl-substituted, Δ8(14)-nuclear-unsaturated major sterols, such as (24R)-4α-methyl-5α-ergosta-8(14),22-dien-3β-ol (gymnodinosterol) and 27-nor-(24R)-4α-methyl-5α-ergosta-8(14),22-dien-3β-ol (brevesterol), which are very uncommon throughout other members of the class Dinophyceae. Our objective was to compare the sterols of G. stigmatica to canonical Kareniaceae to elucidate whether these same distinctive sterols are found, with our hypothesis being that they would because G. stigmatica is indeed a member of the Kareniaceae. Contrary to our hypothesis, G. stigmatica lacks gymnodinosterol and brevesterol, with its sterols instead dominated by 4-desmethyl sterols, such as cholesterol, 24-methylcholesta-5,22E-dien-3β-ol, and the unusual tri-unsaturated sterols ergosta-5,8(14),22E-trien-3β-ol and cholesta-5,8(14),22E-trien-3β-ol. No sterols were found to possess a 4α-methyl substituent or a single Δ8(14) nuclear unsaturation. Thus, G. stigmatica's sterol composition as a member of the Kareniaceae is atypical.

Abstract
The focus point of this current work is to evaluate the anticancer and growth inhibitory efficacy of compounds 5α,8α-epidioxy-24ᶓ-methylcholesta-6,22-dien-3β-ol (LT1), and Ergosta-5,7,22-trien-3β-ol (LT2) of Lentinus tuberregium (Fr.) on three cell lines such as A673 (Rhabdomyosarcoma), MCF7 (breast cancer), and HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma) by MTT assay. LT1 and LT2 exerted maximal growth inhibition in the order as A673 > HCT116 > MCF7. Comparatively, LT1 was more potent in causing cell growth inhibition than LT2 in the A673 cancer cell line. Based on the MTT assay, A673 cells alone proceeded further as a model to evaluate the anticancer potential of LT1 and LT2 at three different semilogarithmic concentrations (3, 10, 30 μM). The cells exposed with compounds at 24 and 48 h were analyzed by flow cytometry. Exposure of LT1 at 3 and 10 μM concentrations for 24 h caused a G2-M arrest. At 10 μM concentration, cells also accumulated in the G0-G1 phase, indicating a G1 block. These effects were only transient as prolonged exposure (48 h) of LT1 treatment brought back the cell population to normalcy. Both the compounds only at 30 μM concentration have the potential to induce a hypodiploid peak (sub G0), indicating an induction of apoptosis which was explicit by nuclear condensation and fragmentation of nuclei in cells. The dose-dependent and compound-specific apoptotic induction was further confirmed by caspase activity higher in LT1 than LT2. The results highlight the significant growth inhibitory activity and anticancer potential of LT1 and LT2 which are recommended for further in-depth analysis.

Abstract
The adsorption of Cr6+ ions from water-soluble solution onto activated pea peels (PPs) embellished with triethylenetetramine (TETA) was studied. The synthesized activated TETA-PP biosorbent was further characterized by SEM together with EDX, FTIR and BET to determine the morphology and elementary composition, functional groups (FGs) present and the biosorbent surface area. The confiscation of Cr6+ ions to activated TETA-PP biosorbent was observed to be pH-reliant, with optimum removal noticed at pH 1.6 (99%). Cr6+ ion adsorption to activated TETA-PP biosorbent was well defined using the Langmuir (LNR) and the pseudo-second-order (PSO) models, with a determined biosorption capacity of 312.50 mg/g. Also, it was found that the activated TETA-PP biosorbent can be restored up to six regeneration cycles for the sequestration of Cr6+ ions in this study. In comparison with other biosorbents, it was found that this biosorbent was a cost-effective and resourceful agro-waste for the Cr6+ ion confiscation. The possible mechanism of Cr6+ to the biosorbent was by electrostatic attraction following the surface protonation of the activated TETA-PP biosorbent sites.

Abstract
Upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) have emerged as a new type of fluorescent probe for sensing applications. Herein, we designed a 980 nm excited upconversion luminescence system, composed of core-shell-structured NaYF4 : Yb,Er@NaYF4 : Yb nanocrystals (csUCNCs) and the triethylenetetramine-Cu complex (complex-I), for quantitative detection of sulfide ions. Taking advantage of the specific recognition of complex-I toward S2-, the as-formed compound (complex-II) exhibits excellent spectral overlap not only in the range of fluorescence emissions of UCNCs but also in the excitation wavelength for UCNCs; fluorescence quenching of UCNCs occurs where the complex-II acts as the energy acceptor. Due to the electrostatic repulsion between positively charged ligand-free csUCNCs and complex-I, the fluorescence quenching is based on the primary and secondary inner filter effect rather than the fluorescence resonance energy transfer process. The detection limit of S2- for the upconversion-based system is calculated to be 2.7 μM, exhibiting higher detection sensitivity over the single complex-I compound measured by the spectrophotometric method. Moreover, no significant variation in upconversion luminescence is observed upon the addition of other interfering ions, showing the excellent selectivity of this nanoprobe toward S2-.

Abstract
This work was undertaken to explore the phytochemical composition, antioxidant, and enzyme-inhibiting properties of Neurada procumbens L. extracts/fractions of varying polarity (methanol extract and its fractions including n-hexane, chloroform, n-butanol, and aqueous fractions). A preliminary phytochemical study of all extracts/fractions, HPLC-PDA polyphenolic quantification, and GC-MS analysis of the n-hexane fraction were used to identify the phytochemical makeup. Antioxidant (DPPH), enzyme inhibition (against xanthine oxidase, carbonic anhydrase, and urease enzymes), and antibacterial activities against seven bacterial strains were performed for biological investigation. The GC-MS analysis revealed the tentative identification of 22 distinct phytochemicals in the n-hexane fraction, the majority of which belonged to the phenol, flavonoid, sesquiterpenoid, terpene, fatty acid, sterol, and triterpenoid classes of secondary metabolites. HPLC-PDA analysis quantified syringic acid, 3-OH benzoic acid, t-ferullic acid, naringin, and epicatechin in a significant amount. All of the studied extracts/fractions displayed significant antioxidant capability, with methanol extract exhibiting the highest radical-scavenging activity, as measured by an inhibitory percentage of 81.4 ± 0.7 and an IC50 value of 1.3 ± 0.3. For enzyme inhibition experiments, the n-hexane fraction was shown to be highly potent against xanthine oxidase and urease enzymes, with respective IC50 values of 2.3 ± 0.5 and 1.1 ± 0.4 mg/mL. Similarly, the methanol extract demonstrated the strongest activity against the carbonic anhydrase enzyme, with an IC50 value of 2.2 ± 0.4 mg/mL. Moreover, all the studied extracts/fractions presented moderate antibacterial potential against seven bacterial strains. Molecular docking of the five molecules β-amyrin, campesterol, ergosta-4,6,22-trien-3β-ol, stigmasterol, and caryophyllene revealed the interaction of these ligands with the investigated enzyme (xanthine oxidase). The results of the present study suggested that the N. procumbens plant may be evaluated as a possible source of bioactive compounds with multifunctional therapeutic applications.

Abstract
Two undescribed 30-norlanostane triterpenoids, named nidulanoids A and B, one ergostane-type steroid with an unusual double bond between C-17 and C-20 designated (17E,22E,24R)-3β,5α-dihydroxyergosta-7,17,22-trien-6,16-dione, and one pregnane, (7Z,9Z,17Z)-,2α,3β-dihydroxypregna-7,9,17 (20)-trien-18-al, along with six known steroids were isolated from the extract of the fungus Aspergillus nidulans. Among them, nidulanosides A and B represents the first example of naturally occurred 30-norlanostane triterpenoids featuring a C9 side-chain moiety at C-17 and a hemiacetal system formed between C-3 and C-19, as an intermediate between lanostane and the regular steriods; the structure of (17E,22E,24R)-3β,5α-dihydroxyergosta-7,17,22-trien-6,16-dione possesses an untypical Δ17,20 double bond; meanwhile, (7Z,9Z,17Z)-,2α,3β-dihydroxypregna-7,9,17 (20)-trien-18-al represents the first example of C-21 steroid with an aldehyde group at C-13. Their structures and absolute stereochemistry were elucidated based on spectroscopic data, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. (7Z,9Z,17Z)-,2α,3β-dihydroxypregna-7,9,17 (20)-trien-18-al showed moderate inhibitory activities against rat brain cancer (PC12) cell lines, with IC50 value of 7.34 μM. This study enriches the diversified structures of triterpenoids and steroids analogues from A. nidulans and indicated (7Z,9Z,17Z)-,2α,3β-dihydroxypregna-7,9,17(20)-trien-18-al to be a promising lead compound against PC12 cell lines.

Abstract
Wilson's disease (WD) is an inherited disease caused by mutations in ATP7B and is characterized by the pathological accumulation of copper in the liver and brain. Common clinical manifestations of WD include a wide range of liver disease and neurological symptoms. In some patients, psychiatric symptoms may be the only manifestation at the time of diagnosis. The clinical features of WD are highly variable and can mimic any disease of internal medicine. Therefore, for unexplained medical diseases, the possibility of WD should not be ignored. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve the prognosis of WD patients and reduce disability and early death. Gene sequencing is becoming a valuable method to diagnose WD, and if possible, all WD patients and their siblings should be genetically sequenced. Copper chelators including D-penicillamine, trientine, and dimercaptosuccinic acid can significantly improve the liver injury and symptoms of WD patients but may have a limited effect on neurological symptoms. Zinc salts may be more appropriate for the treatment of asymptomatic patients or for the maintenance treatment of symptomatic patients. High-quality clinical trials for the drug treatment of WD are still lacking, therefore, individualized treatment options for patients are recommended. Individualized treatment can be determined based on the clinical features of the WD patients, efficacy and adverse effects of the drugs, and the experience of the physician. Liver transplantation is the only effective method to save patients with acute liver failure or with severe liver disease who fail drug treatment.

Abstract
This work investigates the performance and structure of polyamide thin film nanocomposite (PA-TFN) membrane incorporated with triethylenetetramine-modified graphene oxide (GO-TETA). The embedment of GO-TETA nanosheets within the structure of PA-TFN membrane was evaluated at different concentrations (0.005, 0.01, 0.03 wt%; in aqueous piperazine (PIP)) through interfacial polymerization (IP). The physicochemical properties of the prepared membrane were investigated by SEM, AFM, water contact angle, and zeta potential as well as ATR-IR spectroscopy. The presence of longer chains of amino groups (in comparison with the directly linked amino ones) among the stacked GO nanosheets was assumed to increase interlayer spacing, resulting in remarkable changes in water permeance and separation behavior of modified polyamide (PA) membrane. It is seen that GO-TETA nanosheets were uniformly distributed in the matrix of PA layer. With increasing the concentration of GO-TETA, the flux of TFN membranes under 6 bar was increased from 49.8 l/m2 h (no additive) to 73.2 l/m2 h (TFN comprising 0.03 wt% GO-TETA. In addition, more loading GO-TETA resulted in a significant decrease in the average thickness of the polyamide layer from ~380 to ~150 nm. Furthermore, addition of GO-TETA improved the hydrophilicity of nanocomposite membranes, resulting in superb water flux recovery (antifouling indicator) as high as 95% after filtration of bovine serum albumin solution. Also, the retention capability of the TFN membranes towards some textile dyes increased as high as 99.6%.

Abstract
For further understanding leaching characteristics of heavy metals in tailings and better immobilization on heavy metals against acid rain, batch experiments were conducted. The leaching results of Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Mn(II) can be well fit by second-order kinetics equation, and Pb(II) can be well fit by two-constant equation. The leaching intensity of heavy metals in tailings was ranged as: Mn(II)> Cu(II)> Cd(II)> Zn(II)> Pb(II). Triethylenetetramine functioned montmorillonite (TETA-Mt) was successfully synthesized and can obtain simultaneous immobilization effect compared with Mt and TETA, and immobilization rates on Cu(II), Cd(II), Mn(II) and Zn(II) can reach above 90%, the immobilization rate on Pb(II) can reach more than 75%. The mechanisms for efficient immobilization of heavy metals on TETA-Mt included buffering and adsorption abilities. The mechanism for TETA-Mt adsorption of heavy metals included physical absorption, chelation and chemical sedimentation. The results showed that TETA-Mt can be applied to effective immobilization of heavy metals in tailings and efficient remediation of acid mine drainage (AMD) in acid rain area.

Abstract
A polyamine functionalized polystyrene resin (PSATA) was prepared via condensation reaction of acetylated polystyrene resin with triethylenetetramine, which, upon NaBH4 reduction, produced PSATAR. In comparison with the PSATA, the PSATAR with more flexible amine groups shows improved structural properties, and the equilibrium adsorption capacities of phenol, 2-nitrophenol (ONP) and 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) in wastewater were up to 1.073, 1.832 and 1.901 mmol/g, respectively. Their adsorption isotherms fit well with the Freundlich model, indicating a multilayer, heterogeneous adsorption nature. Kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption of phenolic compounds conforms to the pseudo-second-order kinetics with the adsorption rate controlled by film diffusion for ONP and DNP, and intra-particle diffusion in the later stage for phenol.

Abstract
A biphasic solvent features high absorption capacity and low heat duty for CO2 capture. Phase separation behavior is essential to cut down energy penalty. Four phase splitting agents with different hydrophobicities, such as 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMI), 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP), N,N-dimethylformamide, and sulfolane, were dosed to biphasic solvents, triethylenetetramine and 2-(diethylamino)ethanol. Experimental results revealed that they can tune the phase separation behavior during CO2 absorption. Generally, under the same CO2 loading, the volume ratio of the rich phase increased with their hydrophobicity (log P), which accounts for over 50%. Moreover, their influences on absorption capacity, kinetics, and thermodynamics were also investigated. After dosing NMP, the heat duty was decreased by 22%. Furthermore, a phase splitting agent with a positive log P was more conducive to reducing the heat duty, and one with a negative log P enhanced the absorption rate. With DMI, the absorption rate was 114% higher than that of MEA at rich loading. The 13C NMR analysis showed that the agents were not involved in CO2 absorption and did not affect the reaction mechanism. Furthermore, quantum calculation was used to verify the reaction mechanism, confirming that the phase splitting agent increases the reaction equilibrium constant and makes it proceed more thoroughly.

Abstract
The latency of toxic cations in the ecosystem poses serious ecological problems due to its bioaccumulation potential and toxicity to living organisms. The effective removal of these wastewater cations releasing from multi-industries is a bottleneck issue. Therefore, an attempt has been made to design a suitable sorbent for cations sorption from the aqueous environment. The chitosan biopolymer was modified with triethylenetetramine to incorporate active sites in the polymeric sequence to boost up its cations sorption capacity. Triethylenetetramine molecule anchoring chitosan (CH-TET) was authenticated through elemental assay, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and 13C NMR in solid-state, scanning electron microscopy and thermal analysis. The sorption of lead (1.94 mmol g-1), copper (2.79 mmol g-1) and nickel (1.53 mmol g-1) was carried out using the functionalized chitosan from aqueous solution, which showed higher sorption capacity for lead and copper than the pristine chitosan in terms of Langmuir sorption isotherm. To scrutinize the mechanism of sorption and energy of interaction between sorbent and sorbate, Langmuir, Temkin, and Freundlich isotherm models were used for sorption study. The Langmuir model showed the best fitting to the results based on lower error function values and a higher correlation coefficient (R2). It can be concluded that the triethylenetetramine-modified chitosan might be considered as an effective sorbent for cations removal from industrial wastewater.

Abstract
Biphasic solvents containing mixed amines have a phase separation behavior and energy-efficient regeneration for CO2 capture. However, the trade-off between the CO2 absorption capacity and the volume ratio of the CO2-rich phase presents a critical challenge to the reducing potential in regeneration energy consumption. In this study, sulfolane was proposed to regulate the phase separation behavior of a N,N-diethylethanolamine (DEEA)-triethylenetetramine (TETA) biphasic absorbent by simultaneously decreasing the volume ratio and increasing the CO2 loading of the rich phase, without sacrificing the high CO2 capacity. In the DEEA-TETA-sulfolane biphasic absorbent, sulfolane acted as a phase splitter and physical activator. The replacement of a part of H2O by hydrophobic sulfolane contributed to a substantial decrease in the volume ratio of the rich phase from 83 to 39% and an increase in CO2 loading of the rich phase from 3.10 to 4.92 mol/L. The regeneration heat decreased to 1.81 GJ/t CO2, 26.4% less than DEEA-TETA, and 54.6% less than the 5 M monoethanolamine system. Moreover, by promoting the mass transfer coefficient of CO2 in DEEA-TETA-sulfolane to 1.8 times the original DEEA-TETA system, sulfolane was validated as a physical activator. Our study provides a promising strategy for regulating the phase separation behavior of biphasic solvents and enhancing the regeneration energy efficiency for CO2 capture.

Abstract
Multiwalled carbon nanotubes modified with triethylenetetramine (TETA) as an organic nanofiller was used in fabrication of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) nanofiltration membranes. The membranes were prepared by the phase separation method and immersion precipitation technique. For this purpose, various percentages of the TETA-MWCNTs were added to the casting solutions and the membrane films were formed and placed in a bath water. In order to identify the membranes and their properties, SEM images, contact angle and FTIR-ATR analyses were taken from the prepared nanocomposite membranes. The membranes performance in terms of water/protein/dye permeability, protein rejection and Lanasol blue 3R dye rejection were investigated. Establishing hydrogen bond between the water molecules and the functional groups of MWCNTs enhanced the hydrophilicity of the fabricated membranes and caused an increase in permeability. The permeability in the membrane containing 0.25 wt% of TETA-MWCNTs reached its highest value, and adding more amounts reduced flux by blocking the membrane pores. There was also a significant decrease in the rate of membrane fouling for the hybrid membranes. Flux recovery ratio reached from 62.2% to 76.1%. Also, rejection of BSA and Lanasol blue 3R combination dye was increased for the modified membranes.

Abstract
DNA repair synthesis (RS) was investigated in lymphocytes of healty donors and repair-deficient cells (Marfan's syndrome), treated with inhibitor of superoxidedismutase (SOD)--TRIEN--after gamma-irradiation. Significant difference was revealed in cells of healthy donors and Marfan's syndrome: in cells of healthy donors TRIEN stimulated DNA RS whereas this effect didn't observed in Marfan's syndrome cells. So it is possible to suppose that SOD activity is different in normal and gamma-repair-deficient cells.

Abstract
Bleomycin is one of the radiomimetic antibiotics which induces DNA double-strand breaks by highly specific free radical attack on deoxyribose moieties in DNA. Earlier, we have shown that bleomycin induces a high proportion of large deletions involving one or more exons in the hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (hprt) locus in a Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell line CHO K1-BH4, in which no spontaneously occurring large deletions were detected by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based deletion screening assay. Here we report the molecular nature of another class of mutants in which we did not observe any abnormal exon pattern. We refer to these mutants as the "nondeletion" type. Since bleomycin is a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-generating agent, we also studied whether the change of intracellular levels of ROS may affect the bleomycin-induced mutation spectra. We therefore also investigated the hprt mutation spectra induced by bleomycin with pretreatment by TRIEN (triethylenetetramine), a superoxide dismutase (SOD) inhibitor, and TEMPOL (4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl), a SOD mimic. Analysis of these three bleomycin-induced "nondeletion" mutation spectra revealed that 5'-GTC-3' or 5'-GCC-3' sequences were the hot spots for single basepair deletions. Other types of mutation include abnormal cDNA or no cDNA amplification on the hprt locus. Due to the small sample size, we are unable to draw a definitive conclusion about the effects of TRIEN and TEMPOL on bleomycin-induced spectrum of "nondeletion" type hprt mutations.

Abstract
Rats maintained on a copper-deficient diet supplemented with a copper-chelating agent, triethylenetetramine tetrahydrochloride, for 8 to 10 weeks show marked involution of pancreatic acinar tissue. The present study deals with the possible mechanism of pancreatic acinar cell involution during copper deficiency. Sequential light and electron microscopic observations during the copper-depletion regimen, suggest that apoptosis is the main cause of progressive loss of acinar cells. At 4 weeks of copper deficiency, the apoptotic index was 2 +/- 0.6/1,000 cells. By 6 weeks, the apoptotic index reached a maximum of 95 +/- 25/1,000. By 8 weeks, there was almost total loss of acinar cells. The earliest change of apoptosis was characterized by condensation and margination of chromatin against nuclear membrane. Subsequently, several apoptotic bodies displayed pyknotic nucleus and eosinophilic cytoplasmic condensation. Apoptotic bodies were extruded into the interstitium or phagocytosed by unaffected acinar cells. No associated pancreatic inflammation was present. These results indicate that apoptosis is the process involved in pancreatic involution caused by copper deficiency. The molecular mechanism(s) by which copper deficiency causes apoptosis remain unclear.

Abstract
The events accompanying the inhibitory effect of alpha-tocopherol and/or ascorbate on the peroxidation of soybean L-alpha-phosphatidylcholine liposomes, which are an accepted model of biological membranes, were investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance, optical and polarographic methods. The presence of alpha-tocopherol radical in the concentration range 10(-8)-10(-7) M was detected from its EPR spectrum during the peroxidation of liposomes, catalysed by the Fe3+-triethylenetatramine complex. The alpha-tocopherol radical, generated in the phosphatidylcholine bilayer, is accessible to ascorbic acid, present in the aqueous phase at physiological concentrations. Ascorbic acid regenerates from it the alpha-tocopherol itself. A kinetic rate constant of about 2 X 10(5) M-1 X s-1 was estimated from the reaction as it occurs under the adopted experimental conditions. The scavenging effect of alpha-tocopherol on lipid peroxidation is maintained as long a ascorbic acid is present.

Abstract
Penicillinamidohydrolase was immobilized on heteroporous polystyrene supports containing groups of ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine and triethylenetetramine, using Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Fe(III), Co(III) ions. The effects of substrate concentrations and pH on the activity of the immobilized enzyme were investigated and the kinetic parameters of hydrolysis were determined, using N-phenacetylphenylglycine as substrate. The enzyme immobilization resulted in a slight decrease of Km(app), while the values of V decreased by a factor of two. Preparations possessing high thermal stability were obtained by oxidation of Co(II) to Co(III) in the enzyme sorption complex. High stability was also found for the Fe(III)-containing preparations.

Abstract
In 82 subjects 82 gastric emptying studies using Tc-99m triethylene tetramine polystyrene resin were retrospectively evaluated. All six patients with diabetic gastroenteropathy (GE) had delayed biologic gastric emptying time (BGET) that responded well to metoclopramide (MP) injection. In 11 diabetics without GE, only two had prolonged BGET with good response to MP. All 11 patients with gastric outlet obstruction also had prolonged BGET, but no significant response to MP was found in 7 studies. Five of 7 patients with active gastric ulcer had delayed BGET. Three of ten patients with previous Billroth I or II operation had accelerated BGET, and 3 of 9 patients with previous vagotomy had delayed BGET with good response to MP. Markedly prolonged BGET with significant response to MP was also observed in 3 patients with disordered gastric motility. Delayed BGET was found in one patient with bile reflux gastritis and in 2 of 6 patients with reflux esophagitis. No prolongation of BGET was observed in 6 symptomatic patients whose radiographic and endoscopic examinations were negative. BGET studies with this agent appear to be reliable and very helpful in the management of patients with gastric symptoms and for obtaining an objective measurement of the response to therapy.

Abstract
The application of external scintigraphy and preparation of a new radiopharmaceutical agent for the investigation of the rate and pattern of gastric emptying in beagles and for the visualization of segments of the intestines have been described. 99mTc-labeled triethylenetetramine-polystyrene resin was mixed in a test meal and was administered to the animal. The gastric emptying rate of the beagle was evaluated by serially recording the gastric radioactivity by means of a scintillation camera, The experimental data indicate that the pattern of gastric emptying of beagles during the first 60 min was monoexponential and the gastric emptying half time was 1.3 h. The usefulness of external scintigraphy as a noninvasive method for determining the gastric emptying rates and for visualizing segments of GI tract in animals has been demonstrated.

Abstract
The preparation and application of a new radiopharmaceutical used in the investigation of the rate and pattern of gastric emptying by external scintigraphy are described. Triethylenetetraamine was bound covalently to cross-linked chloromethylated polystyrene. The triethylenetetraamine-polystyrene resin tenaciously and rapidly bound technetium 99m. The gastric emptying rate was evaluated in normal adult volunteers and patients by serially recording the gastric radioactivity after ingestion of a test meal mixed with 99mTc-labeled triethylenetetraamine-polystyrene resin. The data indicated that 99mTc-labeled triethylenetetraamine-polystyrene resin was an ideal agent for assessing the rate and pattern of gastric emptying in humans. The gastric emptying half-time (t 1/2 GE) in normal subjects ranged from 25 to 75 min.
