Abstract
This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯]. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250-450, 450-650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4_{-0.9}^{+1.0} and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)_{-1.4}^{+1.8}(syst) pb.

Abstract
All proteins are translated in the cytoplasm, yet many, including transcription factors, play vital roles in the nucleus. While previous research has concentrated on molecular motors for the transport of these proteins to the nucleus, recent observations reveal perinuclear accumulation even in the absence of an energy source, hinting at alternative mechanisms. Here, we propose that structural properties of the cellular environment, specifically the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), can promote molecular transport to the perinucleus without requiring additional energy expenditure. Specifically, physical interaction between proteins and the ER impedes their diffusion and leads to their accumulation near the nucleus. This result explains why larger proteins, more frequently interacting with the ER membrane, tend to accumulate at the perinucleus. Interestingly, such diffusion in a heterogeneous environment follows Chapman's law rather than the popular Fick's law. Our findings suggest a novel protein transport mechanism arising solely from characteristics of the intracellular environment.

Abstract
ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb^{-1} of p+Pb data collected at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, R_{CP}, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The R_{CP} shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, x_{p}, while no such trend is observed as a function of x_{Pb}. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to x_{p}∼10^{-3} and x_{Pb}∼4×10^{-4}.

Abstract
Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Abstract
A measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson combining the H→ZZ^{*}→4ℓ and H→γγ decay channels is presented. The result is based on 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector during LHC run 2 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV combined with the run 1 ATLAS mass measurement, performed at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding a Higgs boson mass of 125.11±0.09(stat)±0.06(syst)=125.11±0.11 GeV. This corresponds to a 0.09% precision achieved on this fundamental parameter of the Standard Model of particle physics.

Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Abstract
The Korean mountains are home to the Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora). Pine needle oil has been used as a food additive and a traditional herbal medicine; however, any health-related properties of its trunk oil remain unknown. Herein, we assessed antibacterial and antiviral properties of essential oil extracted from the trunk of P. densiflora. Th extracted oil was hydrodistilled using a Clevenger apparatus and analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The antimicrobial activity of the oil was tested using the microbroth dilution technique against 10 bacterial species (6 g-positive and 4 g-negative) and fungi. The extract exerted strong antimicrobial activity against Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Propionibacterium acnes, and Malassezia furfur (minimum inhibitory concentration = 10 mL/L). Additionally, it exhibited dose-dependent activity against influenza virus A and feline coronavirus. Furthermore, among 20 identified constituents accounting for 98.7% of the oil contents, the major components included 3-cyclohexene-1-methanol (10.12%), 2-(4-methylcyclohexyl)-2-propanol (9.09%), fenchone (8.14%), O-isopropyltoluene (6.35%), and isothymol methyl ether (6.14%). The P. densiflora trunk essential oil showed antibacterial and antiviral activities that depended on its chemical composition and the microbial strains tested herein. The essential oil can be used as an antimicrobial agent and disinfectant.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst) fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36} fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Abstract
This letter presents a measurement of the nuclear modification factor of large-radius jets in sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV Pb+Pb collisions by the ATLAS experiment. The measurement is performed using 1.72 nb^{-1} and 257 pb^{-1} of Pb+Pb and pp data, respectively. The large-radius jets are reconstructed with the anti-k_{t} algorithm using a radius parameter of R=1.0, by reclustering anti-k_{t} R=0.2 jets, and are measured over the transverse momentum (p_{T}) kinematic range of 158

Abstract
A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the "ridge"-i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities-and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8 pb^{-1}, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v_{2}, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

Abstract
A search is made for potential ccc[over ¯]c[over ¯] tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four muon final state using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J/ψ+J/ψ→4μ and J/ψ+ψ(2S)→4μ, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J/ψ channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J/ψ+ψ(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of τ-lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions Pb+Pb→Pb(γγ→ττ)Pb and constraints on the τ-lepton anomalous magnetic moment a_{τ}. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.44 nb^{-1} of LHC Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment in 2018. Selected events contain one muon from a τ-lepton decay, an electron or charged-particle track(s) from the other τ-lepton decay, little additional central-detector activity, and no forward neutrons. The γγ→ττ process is observed in Pb+Pb collisions with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations and a signal strength of μ_{ττ}=1.03_{-0.05}^{+0.06} assuming the standard model value for a_{τ}. To measure a_{τ}, a template fit to the muon transverse-momentum distribution from τ-lepton candidates is performed, using a dimuon (γγ→μμ) control sample to constrain systematic uncertainties. The observed 95% confidence-level interval for a_{τ} is -0.057

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The use of dose-escalated external beam radiation (EBRT) and brachytherapy (BT) boost with ADT has emerged as an option with superior biochemical control compared to dose-escalated EBRT alone. BT is traditionally delivered using low-dose rate techniques, but more recently high-dose rate (HDR) BT has also emerged as a boost option for these patients with promise of low toxicity rates. SBRT is a favorable modality for monotherapy for low and intermediate risk group patients, however its safety and efficacy as a boost in combination with EBRT is less well understood. The aim of this study is to compare SBRT boost, HDR boost and LDR boost for localized prostate cancer. MATERIALS/METHODS A single-institution retrospective chart review was performed of men receiving EBRT delivered using intensity modulated RT and either SBRT boost (650cGy x 3), HDR-BT boost (1500cGy x 1), or LDR boost with I-125 (110Gy). Of patients treated w/ SBRT boost, 39 (80%) were treated with an SIB to the MRI-detectable lesion(s) to 700cGy x 3. Treatment characteristics for each strategy were reviewed and on-treatment toxicity outcomes for each of the cohorts were compared using Chi-square tests. RESULTS From 2017-2022, 49 patients were treated with EBRT+SBRT boost, 44 patients received EBRT+ HDR-BT boost, and 46 patients received EBRT+ LDR-BT boost. The average age of patients included in the study was 71.2 years (median age 69.55 years, range 51.42-83.70 years) with average baseline PSA of 11 (median 7.6, range 3.3-64). In addition, 55% of the patients had high-risk/very high-risk disease, 39% had unfavorable intermediate disease and 6% had favorable intermediate disease. 139 patients received androgen deprivation therapy (93%). There were no differences in these baseline demographics and clinical or treatment factors between SBRT, HDR and LDR boost (p>0.05). The median dose/fx of EBRT was 4500cGy/25 fx (range 4500-5040cGy/23-28 fractions). At the end of treatment, 69% of the patients had 0-1 change in nocturia. There is an increase in nocturia episodes of 2-3 from baseline in 27% of the patients, while 4% had an increase in nocturia episodes of 4 or more from baseline with no difference between the SBRT, HDR and LDR boost. At baseline 36 patients (26%) reported urinary frequency symptoms, increasing to 80 patients (58%) by end of treatment with no difference between the SBRT, HDR and LDR boost. Similarly, there was a trend to increased use of urinary modifiers at end of treatment in patients treated with EBRT+HDR boost compared to EBRT+SBRT and EBRT+ LDR boost (89% vs. 71% v 72% respectively). CONCLUSION There was no significant difference in acute urinary toxicity and nocturia between SBRT, HDR and LDR boost (p>0.05).

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) improves progression-free survival (PFS) in atypical meningiomas. Herein, we assess whether the treatment-related acute and long-term toxicity of upfront RT in atypical meningioma patients versus surveillance merits the PFS benefit. MATERIALS/METHODS In our prior single institution retrospective study of 230 patients with resected intracranial atypical meningiomas between 2000-2015, adjuvant RT was associated with a significantly lower risk of progression/recurrence compared to surveillance (HR = 0.21 [95% CI 0.11-0.41]; p<0.01), with 36% of surveillance patients eventually requiring salvage RT. In the current study, the acute (≤6 months) and long term (>6 months) RT-related toxicities from the same patient cohort for those who received adjuvant RT (n = 51) were evaluated and compared to those who received salvage RT (n = 64) in the surveillance group. Additionally, overall treatment-related toxicity at time of last follow up was obtained for comparison between the adjuvant RT (n = 51) vs surveillance (n = 179) group. All toxicities were graded per CTCAE v5.0. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to calculate the cumulative incidence of toxicities; Pearson's chi-squared and log-rank test were used for comparison. RESULTS Adjuvant RT as compared to salvage RT was generally associated with greater RT-related toxicities both in the acute (90% vs 69%, p = 0.006) and long term (57% vs 33%, p = 0.010). While there was no significant difference in grade 3-4 acute toxicities, long term grade 3-4 toxicities (including headache, seizure, vision loss, neuromotor deficit, and neurocognitive deficit) were present in 14% of adjuvant vs 3% of salvage RT group (p = 0.035). Radionecrosis occurred in 18% of adjuvant RT vs 8% of salvage RT group (p = 0.11). Between adjuvant RT vs surveillance groups, any-treatment related toxicity at last follow up was greater with adjuvant RT (31% vs 15%; p = 0.006), with trend towards greater grade 3-4 toxicities (including headache, vision loss, neuromotor deficit, neurocognitive deficit, and cerebral edema) as well (8% vs 3%; p = 0.101). Cumulative incidence of treatment-related neuromotor deficit (any grade) was significantly greater in the adjuvant RT vs surveillance group with 14% vs 2% at 10 years (p = 0.004). There was no difference in rate of cerebrovascular accident between adjuvant RT (6%) vs surveillance (4%) groups (p = 0.83). CONCLUSION Adjuvant RT for patients with atypical meningioma was associated with greater acute and long-term treatment toxicities. Potential RT-related toxicity and impact on quality-of-life should thus be carefully weighed against the tumor control benefit of RT in deciding the optimal use and timing of RT.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) This study aimed to suggest a photograph-based prediction system for acute radiation-induced dermatitis (RID), which can be applied to notify patients about the risk of the development of skin discomfort during radiotherapy. MATERIALS/METHODS The proposed system compared the spatial dose distribution with the RID region using the following methods. Skin photographs of patients were taken using an RGB-depth camera to acquire the shape information of RID. The skin surface data measured from the camera was registered with the shape of the external body contour using an iterative closest point algorithm. Spatial dose distribution of skin was extracted from the external body contour to a depth of 2 mm and projected onto the plane of the skin photograph using a transformation matrix for skin depth data. To compare the spatial distribution of skin dose with the shape of RID, the region of RID in patients' skin was delineated on photographs into three toxicity symptoms referring to the CTCAE criteria grade 1 (skin redness), grade 2 (dry desquamation), and grade 3 (moist desquamation). The degree of overlap between the shape of each RID and skin dose distribution was evaluated using the dice similarity coefficient (DSC). Threshold doses for predicting RID occurrence were estimated by skin isodose lines with the highest DSC. The developed system was validated using data from 19 patients who received volumetric modulated arc therapy for head-neck cancer at a single institution. RESULTS Threshold doses for RID grades 1, 2, and 3 were estimated using 18, 18, and 2 individual RID labels delineated on skin photographs, respectively. Isodose lines with the highest DSC for RID grades 1, 2, and 3 were calculated as 26.0 Gy, 36.5 Gy, and 54.0 Gy, respectively. A strong overlap (average DSC > 0.6) was observed between isodose skin lines and the shape of RID labels in all RID grades. CONCLUSION Assessing the spatial information of skin dose can be helpful in predicting acute RID. The region of RID shows a strong similarity with the skin dose distribution in head-neck patients. Visualization of skin dose on the patient photograph is potent to patient education for preparing the cosmetic discomfort during radiotherapy, which may lead to the improvement of the patient satisfaction in treatment.

Abstract
Jet quenching is the process of color-charged partons losing energy via interactions with quark-gluon plasma droplets created in heavy-ion collisions. The collective expansion of such droplets is well described by viscous hydrodynamics. Similar evidence of collectivity is consistently observed in smaller collision systems, including pp and p+Pb collisions. In contrast, while jet quenching is observed in Pb+Pb collisions, no evidence has been found in these small systems to date, raising fundamental questions about the nature of the system created in these collisions. The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has measured the yield of charged hadrons correlated with reconstructed jets in 0.36 nb^{-1} of p+Pb and 3.6 pb^{-1} of pp collisions at 5.02 TeV. The yields of charged hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>0.5 GeV near and opposite in azimuth to jets with p_{T}^{jet}>30 or 60 GeV, and the ratios of these yields between p+Pb and pp collisions, I_{pPb}, are reported. The collision centrality of p+Pb events is categorized by the energy deposited by forward neutrons from the struck nucleus. The I_{pPb} values are consistent with unity within a few percent for hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>4 GeV at all centralities. These data provide new, strong constraints that preclude almost any parton energy loss in central p+Pb collisions.

Abstract
A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H→γγ channel using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data. Constraints are set on the parameters describing the strength of the CP-odd component in the coupling between the Higgs boson and the electroweak gauge bosons in two effective field theory bases: d[over ˜] in the HISZ basis and c_{HW[over ˜]} in the Warsaw basis. The results presented are the most stringent constraints on CP violation in the coupling between Higgs and weak bosons. The 95% C.L. constraint on d[over ˜] is derived for the first time and the 95% C.L. constraint on c_{HW[over ˜]} has been improved by a factor of 5 compared to the previous measurement.

Abstract
Laboratory studies have made unprecedented progress in understanding circadian physiology. Quantifying circadian rhythms outside of laboratory settings is necessary to translate these findings into real-world clinical practice. Wearables have been considered promising way to measure these rhythms. However, their limited validation remains an open problem. One major barrier to implementing large-scale validation studies is the lack of reliable and efficient methods for circadian assessment from wearable data. Here, we propose an approximation-based least-squares method to extract underlying circadian rhythms from wearable measurements. Its computational cost is ∼ 300-fold lower than that of previous work, enabling its implementation in smartphones with low computing power. We test it on two large-scale real-world wearable datasets: [Formula: see text] of body temperature data from cancer patients and ∼ 184 000 days of heart rate and activity data collected from the 'Social Rhythms' mobile application. This shows successful extraction of real-world dynamics of circadian rhythms. We also identify a reasonable harmonic model to analyse wearable data. Lastly, we show our method has broad applicability in circadian studies by embedding it into a Kalman filter that infers the state space of the molecular clocks in tissues. Our approach facilitates the translation of scientific advances in circadian fields into actual improvements in health.

Abstract
The circadian (∼24h) clock is based on a negative-feedback loop centered around the PERIOD protein (PER), translated in the cytoplasm and then enters the nucleus to repress its own transcription at the right time of day. Such precise nucleus entry is mysterious because thousands of PER molecules transit through crowded cytoplasm and arrive at the perinucleus across several hours. To understand this, we developed a mathematical model describing the complex spatiotemporal dynamics of PER as a single random time delay. We find that the spatially coordinated bistable phosphoswitch of PER, which triggers the phosphorylation of accumulated PER at the perinucleus, leads to the synchronous and precise nuclear entry of PER. This leads to robust circadian rhythms even when PER arrival times are heterogeneous and perturbed due to changes in cell crowdedness, cell size, and transcriptional activator levels. This shows how the circadian clock compensates for spatiotemporal noise.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDChronotherapy is a drug intervention at specific times of the day to optimize efficacy and minimize adverse effects. Its value in hematologic malignancy remains to be explored, in particular in adult patients.METHODSWe performed chronotherapeutic analysis using 2 cohorts of patients with diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) undergoing chemotherapy with a dichotomized schedule (morning or afternoon). The effect of a morning or afternoon schedule of rituximab plus cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) on survival and drug tolerability was evaluated in a survival cohort (n = 210) and an adverse event cohort (n = 129), respectively. Analysis of about 14,000 healthy individuals followed to identify the circadian variation in hematologic parameters.RESULTSBoth progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of female, but not male, patients were significantly shorter when patients received chemotherapy mostly in the morning (PFS HR 0.357, P = 0.033; and OS HR 0.141, P = 0.032). The dose intensity was reduced in female patients treated in the morning (cyclophosphamide 10%, P = 0.002; doxorubicin 8%, P = 0.002; and rituximab 7%, P = 0.003). This was mainly attributable to infection and neutropenic fever: female patients treated in the morning had a higher incidence of infections (16.7% vs. 2.4%) and febrile neutropenia (20.8% vs. 9.8%) as compared with those treated in the afternoon. Abstract
AIMS Objective evaluation of radiation dermatitis is important for analysing the correlation between the severity of radiation dermatitis and dose distribution in clinical practice and for reliable reporting in clinical trials. We developed a novel radiation dermatitis segmentation system based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to consistently evaluate radiation dermatitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The radiation dermatitis segmentation system is designed to segment the radiation dermatitis occurrence area using skin photographs and skin-dose distribution. A CNN architecture with a dilated convolution layer and skip connection was designed to estimate the radiation dermatitis area. Seventy-three skin photographs obtained from patients undergoing radiotherapy were collected for training and testing. The ground truth of radiation dermatitis segmentation is manually delineated from the skin photograph by an experienced radiation oncologist and medical physicist. We converted the skin photographs to RGB (red-green-blue) and CIELAB (lightness (L∗), red-green (a∗) and blue-yellow (b∗)) colour information and trained the network to segment faint and severe radiation dermatitis using three different input combinations: RGB, RGB + CIELAB (RGBLAB) and RGB + CIELAB + skin-dose distribution (RGBLAB_D). The proposed system was evaluated using the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), sensitivity, specificity and normalised Matthews correlation coefficient (nMCC). A paired t-test was used to compare the results of different segmentation performances. RESULTS Optimal data composition was observed in the network trained for radiation dermatitis segmentation using skin photographs and skin-dose distribution. The average DSC, sensitivity, specificity and nMCC values of RGBLAB_D were 0.62, 0.61, 0.91 and 0.77, respectively, in faint radiation dermatitis, and 0.69, 0.78, 0.96 and 0.83, respectively, in severe radiation dermatitis. CONCLUSION Our study showed that CNN-based radiation dermatitis segmentation in skin photographs of patients undergoing radiotherapy can describe radiation dermatitis severity and pattern. Our study could aid in objectifying the radiation dermatitis grading and analysing the reliable correlation between dosimetric factors and the morphology of radiation dermatitis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To develop a fully automated in-house gamma analysis software for the "Cheese" phantom-based delivery quality assurance (QA) of helical tomotherapy plans. METHODS The developed in-house software was designed to automate several procedures, which need to be manually performed using commercial software packages. The region of interest for the analysis was automatically selected by cropping out film edges and thresholding dose values (>10% of the maximum dose). The film-measured dose was automatically aligned to the computed dose using an image registration algorithm. An optimal film scaling factor was determined to maximize the percentage of pixels passing gamma (gamma passing rate) between the measured and computed doses (3%/3 mm criteria). This gamma analysis was repeated by introducing setup uncertainties in the anterior-posterior direction. For 73 tomotherapy plans, the gamma analysis results using the developed software were compared to those analyzed by medical physicists using a commercial software package. RESULTS The developed software successfully automated the gamma analysis for the tomotherapy delivery quality assurance. The gamma passing rate (GPR) calculated by the developed software was higher than that by the clinically used software by 3.0%, on average. While, for 1 of the 73 plans, the GPR by the manual gamma analysis was higher than 90% (pass/fail criteria), the gamma analysis using the developed software resulted in fail (GPR < 90%). CONCLUSIONS The use of automated and standardized gamma analysis software can improve both the clinical efficiency and veracity of the analysis results. Furthermore, the gamma analyses with various film scaling factors and setup uncertainties will provide clinically useful information for further investigations.

Abstract
Since ancient times, plants have been a good source of natural antioxidants. Plants remove active oxygen through antioxidants and contain various active ingredients. These active ingredients of plants are used to alleviate skin aging and chronic diseases. Ajuga spectabilis Nakai (AS) is a perennial plant, is endemic to Korea, and has the characteristics of alpine plants. The aim of this study was to assure the possibility of using AS as a functional natural and cosmetic material. For this, we carried out biologically activated material characteristic evaluations about antioxidant, wrinkle reduction, and anti-inflammatory effects using AS extract. To carry out this experiment, we extracted AS extract from AS water extract (AS-W) and AS 70% ethanol extract (AS-E). AS-E showed the highest DPPH activity and tyrosinase inhibitory activity. After, the measurement of metalloprotease (MMP)-1 inhibition effect showed the AS-W and AS-E activation at the concentration of 100 µg/mL. In addition, at the same concentration, from the result of the measurement of the biosynthesis quantity of pro-collagen type-1 we knew that its excellent effect appeared in AS-E (CCD-986sk). The inhibition of NO production in AS-W and AS-E was confirmed in LPS-induced mouse macrophage RAW264.7 cells. On cell viability, it was judged that AS-E had no toxicity because it showed a high cell viability at a high concentration, and it was used for the anti-inflammatory activity. Inhibition of NO production worked only in AS-E; inflammatory cytokine TNF-α and IL-6 were suppressed in a concentration-dependent manner in AS-E. AS is believed to be used as a natural cosmetic material because it has been proven to have antioxidant, whitening, wrinkle-improving, and anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, the results indicate that AS extract can play an important role as a functional natural material and a cosmetic material for whitening, wrinkle reduction, and anti-inflammatory effect.

Abstract
The study explored slaughterhouse waste (SHW) as prime feedstock associated with and without supplement of an external slowly degradable lignocellulosic carbon source to overcome the synergistic co-inhibitions of ammonia and fatty acids. Long-term solid-state digestion (SSD) and liquid-state digestion (LSD) were investigated using a mixture of pork liver and fat. At 2.0 g volatile solids (VS) L-1 d-1 of organic loading rate (OLR), the two reactors of SSD experienced operational instability due to ammonia inhibition and volatile fatty acid (VFA) accumulation while LSD successfully produced 0.725 CH4 L CH4 g-1VS during 197 d of working days under unfavorable condition with high total ammonia nitrogen (>4.7 g/L) and VFAs concentration (>1.9 g/L). The network analysis between complex microflora and operational parameters provided an insight for sustainable biogas production using SHW. Among all, hydrogenotrophic methanogens have shown better resistance than acetoclastic methanogens.

Abstract
Identifying the sources of cell-to-cell variability in signaling dynamics is essential to understand drug response variability and develop effective therapeutics. However, it is challenging because not all signaling intermediate reactions can be experimentally measured simultaneously. This can be overcome by replacing them with a single random time delay, but the resulting process is non-Markovian, making it difficult to infer cell-to-cell heterogeneity in reaction rates and time delays. To address this, we developed an efficient and scalable moment-based Bayesian inference method (MBI) with a user-friendly computational package that infers cell-to-cell heterogeneity in the non-Markovian signaling process. We applied MBI to single-cell expression profiles from promoters responding to antibiotics and discovered a major source of cell-to-cell variability in antibiotic stress response: the number of rate-limiting steps in signaling cascades. This knowledge can help identify effective therapies that destroy all pathogenic or cancer cells, and the approach can be applied to precision medicine.

Abstract
To meet the ever-increasing global food demand, the food production rate needs to be increased significantly in the near future. Speed breeding is considered as a promising agricultural technology solution to achieve the zero-hunger vision as specified in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2. In speed breeding, the photoperiod of the artificial light has been manipulated to enhance crop productivity. In particular, regulating the photoperiod of different light qualities rather than solely white light can further improve speed breading. However, identifying the optimal light quality and the associated photoperiod simultaneously remains a challenging open problem due to complex interactions between multiple photoreceptors and proteins controlling plant growth. To tackle this, we develop a first comprehensive model describing the profound effect of multiple light qualities with different photoperiods on plant growth (i.e. hypocotyl growth). The model predicts that hypocotyls elongated more under red light compared to both red and blue light. Drawing similar findings from previous related studies, we propose that this might result from the competitive binding of red and blue light receptors, primarily Phytochrome B (phyB) and Cryptochrome 1 (cry1) for the core photomorphogenic regulator, CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENIC 1 (COP1). This prediction is validated through an experimental study on Arabidopsis thaliana. Our work proposes a potential molecular mechanism underlying plant growth under different light qualities and ultimately suggests an optimal breeding protocol that takes into account light quality.

Abstract
Understanding the development of early states on the Korean Peninsula is an important topic in Korean archaeology. However, it is not clear how social structure was organized by these early states and what natural resources were utilized from their surrounding environments. To investigate dietary adaptation and social status in ancient Korea, stable isotope ratios and radiocarbon dates were measured from humans and animals from the Imdang cemetery, Gyeongsan city, South Korea. The results indicate that the Imdang diet was mainly based on C3 plants and terrestrial animals. Animal remains in the graves were directly consumed as daily food items as well as for ritual offerings. MixSIAR modeling results revealed that the dietary sources for the humans were: game birds > C3 plants > terrestrial herbivores > marine fish > C4 plants. The finding that the game birds represented the highest contribution to the whole diet, indicates that game birds must have been intensively hunted. Furthermore, elites consumed more game birds than their retainers and they also consumed seafood as a privileged dietary item in the Imdang society. This study demonstrates that the Apdok was a stratified society having high variations in the consumption of food items available to an individual and provides new insights about the subsistence and social status of the early ancient Apdok state on the Korean Peninsula.

Abstract
Anaerobic digestion encounters operational instability due to fluctuations in organic loading. Propionic acid (HPr) is frequently accumulated due to its unfavorable reaction thermodynamics. Here, 'specific' bioaugmentation using HPr enrichment cultures (three different injection regimes of quantity and frequency) was compared with 'non-specific' bioaugmentation using anaerobic sludge, and with non-biological supplementation of magnetite or coenzyme M. The specific bioaugmentation treatments showed superior recovery responses during continuous feeding after a peak overload. A 'one-shot' bioaugmentation with enrichment showed the best remediation, with ~25% recovery time and >10% CH4 conversion efficiency compared to the control. Consecutive bioaugmentation showed evidence of increased stability of the introduced community. Families Synergistaceae, Syntrophobacteraceae, and Kosmotogaceae were likely responsible for HPr-oxidation, in potential syntrophy with Methanoculleus and Methanobacterium. The different supplementation strategies can be considered to reduce the effect of start-up or overload in anaerobic digesters based on the availability of supplementation resources.

Abstract
Platycosides, saponins contained in balloon flower, which have been used as food health supplements for respiratory diseases, have diverse pharmacological effects. Platycosides exhibit better pharmacological activity by hydrolyzing their own sugars. However, to date, there have been no studies on the production of deglucosylated platycodin D suitable for food applications. In this study, Pluszyme 2000P, which was derived from Aspergillus niger, a food-grade microorganism, was used to completely convert platycoside E into deglucosylated platycodin D. For an efficient and economical production of deglucosylated platycodin D, the productivity was improved approximately 2.4 times by application of high hydrostatic pressure and the discarded balloon flower leaf was used as a substrate. As a result, deglucosylated platycodin D was produced with the highest concentration (3.49 mg/mL) and productivity (581.7 mg/L/h) reported so far. Our results contribute to functional saponin production and the related food industries.

Abstract
Although obesity is known to have an influence on fracture, the relationship between lumbar and femur fractures and weight or waist circumference is controversial. We investigated the incidence of fracture with regards to waist circumference using the customised database of the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS). Among 8,922,940 adults who participated at least twice in the NHIS National Health Check-up Program in South Korea between 2009 and 2011, 1,556,751 subjects (780,074 men and 776,677 women) were extracted. Over a mean follow-up of 6.5 years, multivariate-adjusted logistic regression analysis demonstrated that higher waist circumference was associated with an increased risk of femur fractures in both males and females. Moreover, the incidence of lumbar fractures was also positively associated with an increased waist circumference in males and females. An increased waist circumference showed a positive linear relationship with the risk of lumbar and femur fractures in both males and females.

Abstract
Camellia sinensis (tea) seeds have been identified as potential sources of nutraceutical compounds. In this study, caffeine and theaflavanoside IV were annotated as the most abundant phytochemicals in the seed shells of C. sinensis. Both compound displayed potent inhibitions against protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) with IC50 values of 37.9 ± 3.5 and 8.7 ± 1.1 µM, respectively. In the kinetic study, caffeine inhibited PTP1B with mixed type I mode, which prefers to bind to free enzyme. Theaflavanoside IV showed competitive and reversible simple slow-binding inhibition [k3 = 0.1 µM-1·min-1, k4 = 0.002 min-1, Kiapp = 0.0002 µM]. This is the first report on PTP1B-inhibitory activity of these compounds and their action mechanisms. These results suggest their potential in the development of antidiabetic agents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to investigate the location of nerves that innervate the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP), the flexor pollicis longus (FPL) and the pronator quadratus muscles. It also investigates the change in nerve location with hand movement. MATERIALS AND METHODS We studied 30 adult cadavers (17 males and 13 females) with a mean age of 69.5 years (range, 60-95 years). The reference line was from the humeral epicondylar line to the styloid process line of both the radius and ulnar bones. This study measured the anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) branch outpoint and the innervated muscle nerve entry point to the muscle belly. It also examines nerve position changes as related to making a fist. RESULTS The reference line mean distance was 24.1 ± 1.2 cm. The median branched into the AIN at 18.0 ± 4.0%. We found the most densely distributed section of the nerves' entry point to the muscle belly to be at a distance of 30% to 40% for the FDP and from 30% to 40% for the FPL. Except for the FPL, the nerve branch outpoints and the FDP moved 3.0%, depending upon hand movements. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study show that it will be necessary to consider the anatomy of the nerve location as it enters the muscle belly as well as how it changes with movement.

Abstract
The liquid level of a bioreactor is an important operating parameter governing the hydraulic retention time. In this study, a novel method is proposed to estimate the liquid level of anaerobic digesters. The proposed method has an advantage over typical differential pressure measurement as it considers the heterogeneity of the digestate along the level using multiple pressure meters. The real-time measurement generates a model to fit the densities at different liquid columns, predicts the density of the surface layer and determines the overall liquid level. A pilot-scale (0.33 m3 working volume; 1.2 m liquid level) digester, equipped with seven pressure meters, was operated to test the methodology. The performance of the digester was confirmed stable during a long-term (175 d) operation. A set of density-pressure models was developed and were validated using the long-term experimental data. The new method employing cubic model showed significantly better estimation of the reactor level (mean error rate of 1.31%) with improved CDF, as compared with the traditional differential pressure method (mean error rate of 5.71%). The methodology proposed in this study is simple, robust, and cost-effective and can be used to provide additional insights into the operation of an anaerobic digester such as assessing the mixing efficiency.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), a receptor targeted by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is highly expressed in the nasal mucosa. Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) shows diverse endotypes and is aggravated by viral infection. Whether viral stimulation and CRS endotype influence ACE2 expression remains unclear. We investigated the expression of ACE2 and the transmembrane protease, serine 2 (TMPRSS2), which mediate the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells, and assessed polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (poly[I:C])-induced changes based on CRS endotype. METHODOLOGY ACE2 and TMPRSS2 expression was evaluated based on CRS phenotype, endotype, and tissue type. Correlations between ACE2/TMPRSS2 expression and inflammatory mediators in nasal polyps (NP) were examined. Air-liquid interface culture experiments were performed to assess the effects of major cytokines or poly(I:C) stimulation on ACE2/TMPRSS2 expression in primary epithelial cells from healthy nasal mucosa, eosinophilic NP (ENP), and non-eosinophilic NP (NENP). RESULTS In primary nasal epithelial cells, interleukin (IL)-13 decreased ACE2 expression but increased TMPRSS2. Eosinophilic CRS showed lower ACE2 expression than non-eosinophilic CRS, regardless of CRS phenotype. CRS endotype was an independent factor associated with ACE2/TMPRSS2 expression in NP. Serum and tissue eosinophilic marker levels were inversely correlated with ACE2 expression, whereas tissue neutrophilic marker levels and ACE2 expression were positively correlated in NP. ACE2 expression was suppressed in ENP tissues; however, a combination of poly(I:C) and IL-13 induced ACE2/TMPRSS2 upregulation in ENP. CONCLUSIONS ENP tissues have lower ACE2 expression than NENP; however, viral stimulation promotes ACE2/TMPRSS2 upregulation in ENP.

Abstract
Rare sugars are regarded as functional biological materials due to their potential applications as low-calorie sweeteners, antioxidants, nucleoside analogs, and immunosuppressants. D-Allose is a rare sugar that has attracted substantial attention in recent years, owing to its pharmaceutical activities, but it is still not widely available. To address this limitation, we continuously produced D-allose from D-allulose using a packed bed reactor with commercial glucose isomerase (Sweetzyme IT). The optimal conditions for D-allose production were determined to be pH 8.0 and 60°C, with 500 g/L D-allulose as a substrate at a dilution rate of 0.24/h. Using these optimum conditions, the commercial glucose isomerase produced an average of 150 g/L D-allose over 20 days, with a productivity of 36 g/L/h and a conversion yield of 30%. This is the first report of the successful continuous production of D-allose from D-allulose by commercial glucose isomerase using a packed bed reactor, which can potentially provide a continuous production system for industrial applications of D-allose.

Abstract
Precision optics have been widely required in many advanced technological applications. X-ray mirrors, as an example, serve as the key optical components at synchrotron radiation and free electron laser facilities. They are rectangular silicon or glass substrates where a rectangular Clear Aperture (CA) needs to be polished to sub-nanometer Root Mean Squared (RMS) to keep the imaging capability of the incoming X-ray wavefront at the diffraction limit. The convolutional polishing model requires a CA to be extended with extra data, from which the dwell time is calculated via deconvolution. However, since deconvolution is very sensitive to boundary errors and noise, the existing surface extension methods can hardly fulfill the sub-nanometer requirement. On one hand, the figure errors in a CA were improperly modeled during the extension, leading to continuity issues along the boundary. On the other hand, uncorrectable high-frequency errors and noise were also extended. In this study, we propose a novel Robust Iterative Surface Extension (RISE) method that resolves these problems with a data fitting strategy. RISE models the figure errors in a CA with orthogonal polynomials and ensures that only correctable errors are fit and extended. Combined with boundary conditions, an iterative refinement of dwell time is then proposed to compensate the errors brought by the extension and deconvolution, which drastically reduces the estimated figure error residuals in a CA while the increase of total dwell time is negligible. To our best knowledge, RISE is the first data fitting-based surface extension method and is the first to optimize dwell time based on iterative extension. An experimental verification of RISE is given by fabricating two elliptic cylinders (10 mm × 80 mm CAs) starting from a sphere with a radius of curvature around 173 m using ion beam figuring. The figure errors in the two CAs greatly improved from 204.96 nm RMS and 190.28 nm RMS to 0.62 nm RMS and 0.71 nm RMS, respectively, which proves that RISE is an effective method for sub-nanometer level X-ray mirror fabrication.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neutrophils present as major inflammatory cells in refractory chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), regardless of the endotype. However, their role in the pathophysiology of CRSwNP remains poorly understood. We investigated factors predicting the surgical outcomes of CRSwNP patients with focus on neutrophilic localization. METHODS We employed machine-learning methods such as the decision tree and random forest models to predict the surgical outcomes of CRSwNP. Immunofluorescence analysis was conducted to detect human neutrophil elastase (HNE), Bcl-2, and Ki-67 in NP tissues. We counted the immunofluorescence-positive cells and divided them into three groups based on the infiltrated area, namely, epithelial, subepithelial, and perivascular groups. RESULTS On machine learning, the decision tree algorithm demonstrated that the number of subepithelial HNE-positive cells, Lund-Mackay (LM) scores, and endotype (eosinophilic or non-eosinophilic) were the most important predictors of surgical outcomes in CRSwNP patients. Additionally, the random forest algorithm showed that, after ranking the mean decrease in the Gini index or the accuracy of each factor, the top three ranking factors associated with surgical outcomes were the LM score, age, and number of subepithelial HNE-positive cells. In terms of cellular proliferation, immunofluorescence analysis revealed that Ki-67/HNE-double positive and Bcl-2/HNE-double positive cells were significantly increased in the subepithelial area in refractory CRSwNP. CONCLUSION Our machine-learning approach and immunofluorescence analysis demonstrated that subepithelial neutrophils in NP tissues had a high expression of Ki-67 and could serve as a cellular biomarker for predicting surgical outcomes in CRSwNP patients.

Reconfigurable freeform optical systems greatly enhance imaging performance within non-symmetric, compact, and ergonomic form factors. In this paper, several advances improve design, testing, and monitoring of these systems. Specific enhancements include definition of polynomials for fast and efficient parameterizations of vector distributions in non-circular apertures and merit based function optimization. Deflectometry system improvements enable metrology for almost any conceivable optic shape and guide deterministic optical figuring process during the coarse grinding phase by including modulated infrared sources. As a demonstration of these improvements, parametric optimization is tested with the tomographic ionized-carbon mapping experiment, a reconfigurable optical system. Other case studies and demonstrations include metrology of a fast, f/1.26 convex optic, an Alvarez lens, and real-time monitoring of an array of independently-steerable hexagonal mirror segments as well as an induction formed surface and inflatable Mylar mirror.

Abstract
Medical devices, which enhance the quality of life, have experienced a gradual increase in demand. Various research groups have attempted to incorporate soft materials such as skin into wearable devices. We developed a stretchable substrate with high elasticity by forming a porous structure on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). To optimize the porous structure, we propose a manufacturing process that utilizes a high-pressure steam with different viscosities (400, 800, 2100, and 3000 cP) of an uncured PDMS solution. The proposed method simplifies the manufacturing of porous structures and is cost-effective compared to other technologies. Porous structures of various viscosities were formed, and their electrical and mechanical properties evaluated. Porous PDMS (3000 cP) was formed in a sponge-like three-dimensional porous structure, compared to PDMS formed by other viscosities. The elongation of porous PDMS (3000 cP) was increased by up to 30%, and the relative resistance changed to less than 1000 times with the maximum strain test. The relative resistance increased the initial resistance (R0) by approximately 10 times during the 1500-times repeated cycling tests with 30% strain. As a result, patch-type wearable devices based on soft materials can provide an innovative platform that can connect with the human skin for robotics applications and for continuous health monitoring.

Abstract
Fabrication of large optics is a time-consuming process and requires a vast investment in manpower and financial resources. Increasing the material removal rate of polishing tools and minimizing dwell time are two common ways of reducing the processing time. Indeed, the polishing efficiency can be further improved if multiple tools are used at the same time. In this Letter, we propose a dual-tool deterministic polishing model, which multiplexes the dwell time and optimizes the run parameters of two polishing tools simultaneously. The run velocities of the two tools are coordinated by boundary conditions with a velocity adjustment algorithm, and the corresponding polishing paths are studied. We demonstrate this model with a simulation of polishing one segment of the Giant Magellan Telescope, where, with the proposed dual-tool multiplexing, the processing time of an ø8.4 m mirror has been reduced by 50.54% compared with that using two tools in a sequential schedule.

Abstract
We investigated interference fringes due to superposition of diverging light waves reflected from the two sides of a plane parallel plate. A non-localized fringe pattern of high contrast was obtained as a function of incident angle when we used a coherent diverging beam. We found that the fringe density increased to a certain angle and then decreased thereafter, against the common belief that the fringe density increases monotonically with the angle of incidence. Because the fringe density is maximum at this angle and does not change rapidly in the vicinity, we could employ Fourier analysis to estimate interferometric parameters, such as thickness, refractive index, and wavelength, that determine the characteristic stationary fringe density.

Abstract
Surface errors directly affect the performance of optical systems in terms of contrast and resolution. Surface figure errors at different surface scales are deterministically removed using controlled material removal rate (MRR) during a precision optics fabrication process. We systematically sectioned the wide range of MRR space with systematic parameters and experimentally evaluated and mapped the MRR values using a flexible membrane-polishing tool. We performed numerical analysis with a tool influence function model using a distributed MRR-based Preston's constant evaluation approach. The analysis procedure was applied to a series of experimental data along with the tool influence function models to evaluate removal rates. In order to provide referenceable survey data without entangled information, we designed the experiments using Taguchi's L27 orthogonal array involving five control parameters and statistically analyzed a large number of programmatic experiments. The analysis of variance showed that the most significant parameters for achieving a higher MRR are the spot size and active diameter.

Abstract
Xylan and pectin are major structural components of plant cell walls. There are two independent catabolic pathways for xylan and pectin. UxaE bridges these two pathways by reversibly epimerizing D-fructuronate and D-tagaturonate. The crystal structure of UxaE from Cohnella laeviribosi (ClUxaE) shows a core scaffold of TIM-barrel with a position-changing divalent metal cofactor. ClUxaE has the flexible metal-coordination loop to allow the metal shift and the extra domains to bind a phosphate ion in the active site, which are important for catalysis and substrate specificity. Elucidation of the structure and mechanism of ClUxaE will assist in understanding the catalytic mechanism of UxaE family members, which are useful for processing both xylan and pectin-derived carbohydrates for practical and industrial purposes, including the transformation of agricultural wastes into numerous valuable products.

Abstract
Petasites japonicus have been used since a long time in folk medicine to treat diseases including plague, pestilential fever, allergy, and inflammation in East Asia and European countries. Bioactive compounds that may prevent and treat infectious diseases are identified based on their ability to inhibit bacterial neuraminidase (NA). We aimed to isolate and identify bioactive compounds from leaves and stems of P. japonicas (PJA) and elucidate their mechanisms of NA inhibition. Key bioactive compounds of PJA responsible for NA inhibition were isolated using column chromatography, their chemical structures revealed using 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, DEPT, and HMBC, and identified to be bakkenolide B (1), bakkenolide D (2), 1,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (3), and 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid (4). Of these, 3 exhibited the most potent NA inhibitory activity (IC50 = 2.3 ± 0.4 μM). Enzyme kinetic studies revealed that 3 and 4 were competitive inhibitors, whereas 2 exhibited non-competitive inhibition. Furthermore, a molecular docking simulation revealed the binding affinity of these compounds to NA and their mechanism of inhibition. Negative-binding energies indicated high proximity of these compounds to the active site and allosteric sites of NA. Therefore, PJA has the potential to be further developed as an antibacterial agent for use against diseases associated with NA.

Abstract
We present optical characterization, calibration, and performance tests of the Mesospheric Airglow/Aerosol Tomography Spectroscopy (MATS) satellite, which for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, for a satellite, applies a linear-astigmatism-free confocal off-axis reflective optical design. Mechanical tolerances of the telescope were investigated using Monte Carlo methods and single-element perturbations. The sensitivity analysis results indicate that tilt errors of the tertiary mirror and a surface RMS error of the secondary mirror mainly degrade optical performance. From the Monte Carlo simulation, the tolerance limits were calculated to ±0.5mm, ±1mm, and ±0.15∘ for decenter, despace, and tilt, respectively. We performed characterization measurements and optical tests with the flight model of the satellite. Multi-channel relative pointing, total optical system throughput, and distortion of each channel were characterized for end-users. Optical performance was evaluated by measuring the modulation transfer function (MTF) and point spread function (PSF). The final MTF performance was 0.25 MTF at 20 lp/mm for the ultraviolet channel (304.5 nm), and 0.25-0.54 MTF at 10 lp/mm for infrared channels. The salient fact of the PSF measurement of this system is that there is no noticeable linear astigmatism detected over a wide field of view (5.67∘×0.91∘). All things considered, the design method showed great advantages in wide field of view observations with satellite-level optical performance.
