Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Spine stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) results in improved local control and pain response compared to conventional external beam radiotherapy. Consensus stipulates MRI-based delineation of the clinical target volume (CTV) is critical and is based on spine segment sector involvement. The applicability of these contouring guidelines to metastases confined to the posterior elements is unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine the patterns of failure, as well as the safety of treating posterior element metastases when the vertebral body was intentionally excluded from the CTV. MATERIALS/METHODS A retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database of 605 patients and 1412 spine segments treated with spine SBRT was performed. Only treated segments involving the posterior elements alone were included for the analyses. The primary outcome was local failure, as per SPINO recommendations, and secondary outcomes included patterns of failure, toxicities. Clinical and tumor factors were reported with descriptive statistics. The cumulative risk of local failure was estimated using the Fine-Gray method, accounting for death before local failure as a competing risk. RESULTS A total of 24/605 patients and 31/1412 segments within the database were treated to the posterior elements only. Local failure occurred in 11/31 segments. The cumulative rate of local recurrence was 9.7% at 12 months and 30.8% at 24 months. Amongst local failures, the most common histologies were renal cell carcinoma (36.4%) and non-small cell lung cancer (36.4%). At baseline, 4/11 (36.4%) segments with local failure (36.4%) had epidural disease and 8/11 (72.7%) had paraspinal disease. Most local failures were treated in the de novo setting (8/11, 72.7%). 6/11 (54.5%) failed exclusively within treated CTV sectors and 5/11 (45.5%) with both treated and adjacent untreated sectors. Of these five, four had disease progression within the untreated vertebral body. No failures occurred exclusively within the untreated vertebral body. One patient (4.2%) experienced a grade 4 skin toxicity and one patient (4.2%) developed an iatrogenic Grade 1 vertebral compression fracture. CONCLUSION Posterior element alone metastases are rare. Our analyses support SBRT consensus contouring guidelines such that the vertebral body can be excluded from CTV in spinal metastases confined to the posterior elements.

Abstract
With the continuous exploration of the bioelectric effect, nanosecond and picosecond pulsed electric fields used in cancer therapy and drug introduction have attracted great attention. In this paper, an ultrashort pulsed electric field generator is proposed, which connects two photoconductive semiconductor switches in parallel to generate unipolar and bipolar pulses. We described the experimental scheme of the generator and the simulation of the radio frequency combiner. A 532 nm laser with pulse widths of 1 ns and 500 ps is used to trigger the photoconductive semiconductor switches. The experimental results show that the scheme can achieve adjustments of 357 and 720 MHz for the center frequency and the 3 dB bandwidth, respectively. The results confirm that this proposed scheme can be used for unipolar/bipolar frequency-adjustable ultra-wideband pulse generation.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) We report outcomes specific to a novel 3 fraction (frx) staged stereotactic radiosurgery (St-SRS) regimen designed to salvage metastases previously irradiated and considered to be at high risk of radiation necrosis (RN). MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 24 patients with 55 metastases treated with our 3 frx St-SRS approach were reviewed. Prior to each frx, patients were re-simulated and planned with a new MRI to allow for treatment adaption. The primary endpoint was the cumulative incidence of local failure (LF) and secondary endpoints included tumor dynamics and RN rates. RESULTS The median follow up was 9.0 months (range: 2.7-40.1 months) and median age was 59-years (range: 32-84). Primary cancers were of breast (44%), lung (33%), melanoma (22%), and gastro-intestinal (1%) origin. Individual metastases treated with St-SRS had initially failed surgery and post-op cavity hypofractionated SRS (HSRS) for 2/55 (4%), SRS alone for 19/55 (34%), whole brain radiation (WBRT) alone for 6/55 (11%), HSRS for 2/55 (4%), and prior SRS and WBRT exposure for 28/55 (51%). 46/55 (84%) were prescribed 8 Gy, 8 Gy, 4 Gy; 8/55 (14%) had 6 Gy, 6 Gy, 4 Gy and 1/55 (2%) had 8 Gy, 8 Gy, 6 Gy. The median number of weeks between frx was 2.6 (range: 1.0-6.8). The median of the mean and maximum target doses were 9.7 Gy (range: 5.4-11.7 Gy) and 12.4 Gy (range, 7.5-16.0 Gy) respectively. The median prescription isodose line was 62% (range: 50-85%). The mean lesion volume and diameter was 3.8cc (range: 0.05-24.8cc) and 1.6cm (range: 0.2-4.4cm), respectively. The mean percent target volume coverage, Paddick Conformality Index and Gradient Index were 100% (range: 97-100%), 0.7 (range: 0.1-0.9), and 3.2 (range: 2.5-6.7), respectively. The mean volume change between staged frxs was -4.2% (range: -69.3 to +63.1%), and based on the first and last St-SRS MRI was -10.8% (range: -86.6% to +68.7%). The crude LF rate was 27%. The median time to LF was 3.4 months (range: 1.2-7.4 months). Amongst those with a LF, 7/15 (46%) were melanoma, 6/15 (40%) HER2 positive breast cancer, 1/15 (7%) gastrointestinal and 1/15 (7%) non-small cell lung carcinoma. 8/15 (53%) had prior WBRT and SRS exposure, 1/16 (7%) surgery and cavity HSRS, 5/15 (33%) SRS alone and 1/15 (7%) WBRT alone. Only asymptomatic RN events were observed in 4/55 (7%). CONCLUSION St-SRS is a promising approach to salvage previously irradiated brain metastases, including prior SRS, with a favorable rate of RN. Tumor volume dynamics between stages can be significant warranting adaptive replanning.

Abstract
Plants employ various molecular mechanisms to maintain primary root elongation upon salt stress. Identification of key functional genes, therein, is important for improving crop salt tolerance. Through analyzing natural variation of the primary root length of Arabidopsis natural population under salt stress, we identified NIGT1.4, encoding an MYB transcription factor, as a novel contributor to maintained root growth under salt stress. Using both T-DNA knockout and functional complementation, NIGT1.4 was confirmed to have a role in promoting primary root growth in response to salt stress. The expression of NIGT1.4 in the root was shown induced by NaCl treatments in an ABA-dependent manner. SnRK2.2 and 2.3 were shown to interact with and phosphorylate NIGT1.4 individually. The growth of the primary root of snrk2.2/2.3/2.6 triple mutant was shown sensitive to salt stress, which was similar to nigt1.4 plants. Using DNA affinity purification sequencing, ERF1, a known positive regulator for primary root elongation and salt tolerance, was identified as a target gene for NIGT1.4. The transcriptional induction of ERF1 by salt stress was shown absent in nigt1.4 background. NIGT1.4 was also confirmed to bind to the promoter region of ERF1 by yeast one-hybrid experiment and to induce the expression of ERF1 by dual-luciferase analysis. All data support the notion that salt- and ABA-elicited NIGT1.4 induces the expression of ERF1 to regulate downstream functional genes that contribute to maintained primary root elongation. NIGT1.4-ERF1, therefore, acts as a signaling node linking regulators for stress resilience and root growth, providing new insights for breeding salt-tolerant crops.

Abstract
To explore and describe the experience of decision-making for patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC) from the perspectives of family surrogate decision-makers. A total of 21 face-to-face interviews with family surrogate decision-makers from a tertiary hospital in Shanghai, China were conducted from January 2021 to February 2021. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis. Four main themes were identified and were included in this study: (1) a tough choice between life and dignity, (2) a major responsibility for patient's voice, (3) complex considerations between ethics and morals, and (4) the importance of realistic basis. The surrogate decision-making of DOC patients in China has been affected by the Chinese cultural context and several practical roots. And the family surrogate decision-makers shared their experiences of trade-offs during the decision-making process. Moreover, family surrogate decision-makers realized their serious responsibility to make a decision that would be in the best interest of DOC patients.

Abstract
AIMS Perineural invasion (PNI) is a special type of metastasis of several cancers and has been reported as being a factor for poor prognosis in colorectal carcinoma. However, investigations of PNI in only rectal cancer and a comprehensive analysis combining meta-analyses with real-world case studies remain lacking. MATERIALS AND METHODS First, articles from 2000 to 2020 concerning the relationship between PNI and rectal cancer prognoses and clinical features were meta-analysed. Subsequently, we carried out a retrospective analysis of 312 rectal cancer cases that underwent radical surgery in the real world. The incidence of PNI and the relationship between PNI and prognosis, as well as clinicopathological factors, were investigated. RESULTS The incidence of PNI was 23.09% and 33.01% in the meta-analysis and clinical cases, respectively. PNI occurred as early as stage I (2.94%). Moreover, neoadjuvant therapy significantly reduced the PNI-positive rate (20.34% versus 26.54%). Both meta-analysis and real-world clinical case studies suggested that PNI-positive patients had poorer prognoses than PNI-negative patients. We established an effective risk model consisting of T stage, differentiation and lymphovascular invasion to predict PNI in rectal cancer. CONCLUSION PNI is a poor prognostic factor for rectal cancer and could occur even in stage I. Additionally, neoadjuvant therapy could sufficiently reduce the PNI-positive rate. T stage, lymphovascular invasion and differentiation grade were independent risk factors for PNI and the risk model that included these factors could predict the probability of PNI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS A large-scale multicenter study validated aldo-keto reductase 1B10 (AKR1B10) as a new serum marker of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of serum AKR1B10 in HCC. METHODS 273 naïve HCC patients enrolled for serum AKR1B10 tests were followed up for 2 years. Survival and clinical data were collected. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank tests were used to estimate correlation of patient survival with serum AKR1B10. Univariate and multivariate COX regression analyses were used to evaluate the prognostic value of serum AKR1B10 level independently or in combination with other clinicopathological factors. α-fetoprotein (AFP) was analyzed in parallel for comparison. RESULTS Serum AKR1B10 associated with tumor stage (p = 0.012), size (p = 0.004), primary tumor number (p = 0.019), and Child-Pugh classification (p = 0.003). HCC patients with a high level of serum AKR1B10 (≥ 267.9 pg/ml) had median survival (MS) of 25 months (95% confidence interval [CI] 20.788-29.212) vs. MS of 34 months (CI 28.911-39.089) in patients with normal serum AKR1B10 (p < 0.001). Univariate and multivariate COX regression analyses showed that serum AKR1B10 level was an unfavorable prognostic marker of HCC independently (HR 1.830, 95% CI 1.312-2.552; p < 0.001) or in combination with other clinical factors (HR 1.883, 95% CI 1.264-2.806; p = 0.002), such as TNM stage, tumor size and portal invasion. In the same cohort of HCC patients, AFP exhibited prognostic value at a cut-off of 400 ng/ml, but not at 20 ng/ml and 200 ng/ml. CONCLUSIONS Serum AKR1B10 is a new prognostic marker of HCC, better than AFP.

Abstract
Background: In order to improve early access to palliative care, strategies for monitoring referral practices in real-time are needed. Objective: To evaluate how Australia-Modified Karnofsky Performance Status (AKPS) at the time of initial palliative care consult differs between serious illnesses and could be used to identify opportunities for earlier referral. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated data from an inpatient palliative care consult registry. Serious illnesses were classified using ICD-10 codes. AKPS was assessed by palliative care clinicians during consult. Results: The AKPS distribution varied substantially between the different serious illnesses (p < 0.001). While patients with cancer and heart disease often had preserved functional status, the majority of patients with dementia, neurological, lung, liver, and renal disease were already completely bedbound at the time of initial palliative care consult. Conclusion: Measuring functional status at the time of palliative care referral could be helpful for monitoring referral practices and identifying opportunities for earlier referral.

Abstract
Race is a consequential sociocultural cue in healthcare contexts. Racism is associated with health disparities. Extant research shows significant health inequities between white and Black people. However, little is known about health gaps between or among other racial groups. This study investigated how Blacks and Asian Americans perceive and experience racism in healthcare settings and in general daily life situations, and how these factors relate to their self-rated general health status and health-related quality of life. Findings from an online survey suggest strong similarities and subtle differences between the two racial groups and within the Asian subgroups.

Abstract
Neptune-sized planets exhibit a wide range of compositions and densities, depending on factors related to their formation and evolution history, such as the distance from their host stars and atmospheric escape processes. They can vary from relatively low-density planets with thick hydrogen-helium atmospheres1,2 to higher-density planets with a substantial amount of water or a rocky interior with a thinner atmosphere, such as HD 95338 b (ref. 3), TOI-849 b (ref. 4) and TOI-2196 b (ref. 5). The discovery of exoplanets in the hot-Neptune desert6, a region close to the host stars with a deficit of Neptune-sized planets, provides insights into the formation and evolution of planetary systems, including the existence of this region itself. Here we show observations of the transiting planet TOI-1853 b, which has a radius of 3.46 ± 0.08 Earth radii and orbits a dwarf star every 1.24 days. This planet has a mass of 73.2 ± 2.7 Earth masses, almost twice that of any other Neptune-sized planet known so far, and a density of 9.7 ± 0.8 grams per cubic centimetre. These values place TOI-1853 b in the middle of the Neptunian desert and imply that heavy elements dominate its mass. The properties of TOI-1853 b present a puzzle for conventional theories of planetary formation and evolution, and could be the result of several proto-planet collisions or the final state of an initially high-eccentricity planet that migrated closer to its parent star.

Abstract
We report the case of a 31-year-old Chinese woman with a chief complaint of weakness in the lower limbs, which was diagnosed as limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2B (LGMD2B) with compound heterozygous mutations of the DYSF gene. Meanwhile, this woman is an asymptomatic carrier with the mutation of the X-linked DMD gene. The electromyography, muscle MRI, and muscle biopsy indicated a chronic myogenic injury with dysferlin deletion. As a result of genetic testing, compound heterozygous G-to-T base substitution at position 5,497 in exon 49 of the DYSF gene, leading to a codon change from glutamic acid to termination codon at position 1,833, and a heterozygous C-to-G base change at position 4,638 + 8 in intron 42 of the DYSF gene with a consequence of splice, which has never been reported, were identified as candidate causative mutations. Unfortunately, DMD gene mutation c.3921+12A>G of the DMD gene on the X chromosome was also found in this patient. Finally, the patient was diagnosed as LGMD2B clinically and genetically. In the previous 2 years, the patient's lower limb weakness became slightly worse, resulting in even the total distance walked than before. Fortunately, during the follow-up, her son had not shown slowness or limitation of movement. Genetic testing by next-generation sequencing confirmed the final diagnosis of LGMD2B, and we identified the novel compound heterozygous variants in the DYSF gene, which is of great significance to the accurate diagnosis of genetically coded diseases. Much attention needs to be paid in clinics toward hereditary neuromuscular diseases with multiple pathogenic gene mutations. Genetic counseling and clinical follow-up should be the priorities in future, and promising treatments are also worth exploring.

Abstract
Despite holding the advantages of high theoretical capacity and low cost, the practical application of layered-structured potassium vanadates in zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) has been staggered by the sluggish ion diffusion, low intrinsic electronic conductivity, and unstable crystal structure. Herein, for the first time, a phase stabilized crystal etching strategy is proposed to innovate an oxygen-vacancy-rich K0.486 V2 O5 nanorod composite (Ov-KVO@rGO) as a high-performance ZIB cathode. The in situ ascorbic acid assisted crystal etching process introduces abundant oxygen-vacancies into the K0.486 V2 O5 lattices, not only elaborately expanding the lattice spacing for faster ion diffusion and more active sites due to the weakened interlayer electrostatic interaction, but also enhancing the electronic conductivity by accumulating electrons around the vacancies, which is also evidenced by density functional theory calculations. Meanwhile, the encapsulating rGO layer ably stabilizes the K0.486 V2 O5 crystal phase otherwise is hard to endure subject to such a harsh chemical etching. As a result, the optimized Ov-KVO@rGO electrode delivers record-high rate capabilities with 462 and 272.39 mAh g-1 at 0.2 and 10 A g-1 , respectively, outperforming all previously reported potassium vanadate cathodes and most other vanadium-based materials. This work highlights a significant advancement of layer-structured vanadium based-materials towards practical application in ZIBs.

Abstract
Diabetic nephropathy (DN), associated with high mobility and disability, is the leading cause of end-stage kidney disease worldwide. Dysfunction of the mammalian target of the rapamycin (mTOR) pathway and reactive oxygen species (ROS) activation in the glomeruli is the main hypnosis for DN progression. However, the use of mTOR inhibitors for DN treatment remains controversial. In this study, we built a multifunctional selective mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) inhibiting nanoplatform (naming as ESC-HCM-B) that targets the release of mTOR and ROS inhibitors near podocytes, aiming to confirm whether combination therapy is an alternative method for DN treatment. The results showed that ESC-HCM-B achieved high drug loading because of the core mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNPs), and the enhanced biohomogeneous composite membrane endowed ESC-HCM-B with the characteristics of avoiding immune phagocytosis, automatic valve-type slow-release drug, and high stability. In vitro, the nanoplatform showed high efficiency in podocyte targeting but no significant cytotoxicity or apoptotic promotion. In particular, the quantum dots carried by ESC-HCM-B further amplified the effect of "nanoenzyme"; this mechanism reduced the ROS level in podocytes induced by high glucose, protected mitochondrial damage, and restored mitochondrial energy metabolism. In vivo, the nanoplatform specifically targeted the glomerular and podocyte regions of the kidney. After treatment, the nanoplatform significantly reduced urinary protein levels and delayed glomerulosclerosis in DN rats. This nanoplatform provides a safe and effective strategy for DN treatment.

Abstract
Current methods of molecular image-based drug discovery face two major challenges: (1) work effectively in absence of labels, and (2) capture chemical structure from implicitly encoded images. Given that chemical structures are explicitly encoded by molecular graphs (such as nitrogen, benzene rings and double bonds), we leverage self-supervised contrastive learning to transfer chemical knowledge from graphs to images. Specifically, we propose a novel Contrastive Graph-Image Pre-training (CGIP) framework for molecular representation learning, which learns explicit information in graphs and implicit information in images from large-scale unlabeled molecules via carefully designed intra- and inter-modal contrastive learning. We evaluate the performance of CGIP on multiple experimental settings (molecular property prediction, cross-modal retrieval and distribution similarity), and the results show that CGIP can achieve state-of-the-art performance on all 12 benchmark datasets and demonstrate that CGIP transfers chemical knowledge in graphs to molecular images, enabling image encoder to perceive chemical structures in images. We hope this simple and effective framework will inspire people to think about the value of image for molecular representation learning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Moxibustion is an important external therapy of traditional medicine that operates on some acupoints on the skin and is usually used for immune-related diseases. However, whether the immune function of the skin, especially the immune-related lncRNAs, contributes to the mechanism of moxibustion remains unclear. METHODS Adjuvant arthritis (AA) was induced by injection of Complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) into the right hind paw of mice. Moxibustion was administered on the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint for 3 weeks. The alteration of foot volume and cytokine concentration in serum was used to evaluate the anti-inflammation effect of moxibustion. CD83 expression in the local skin of ST36 was measured by immunofluorescence staining. Transcriptome RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and lncRNA-mRNA network analysis were performed to construct a moxibustion-induced Immune-related lncRNA-mRNA co-expression network. qRT-PCR was used to validate the RNA-seq data. RESULTS Moxibustion at ST36 relieved the foot swelling, decreased the TNF-α and IL-1β concentrations in serum, and obviously increased the CD83 expression at the local skin of ST36. A total of 548 differentially expressed lncRNAs and 520 linked mRNAs were screened out. The significantly and predominately enriched Go term was inflammatory and immune response, and the main pathways related to inflammatory and immune responses include Toll-like receptor, cytokine-cytokine receptor, and MAPK signaling. The immune-related lncRNA-mRNA co-expression network showed 88 lncRNAs and 36 mRNAs, and Ccrl2 is the central hub of this network. CONCLUSION Local immune activation is significantly triggered by moxibustion in ST36 of AA mice. The Ccrl2-centered immune-related lncRNA-mRNA co-expression network would be a promising target for decoding the mechanism of moxibustion for immune-related diseases.

Abstract
Background There is mounting evidence suggesting that autoimmune encephalitis (AE) can be observed as a neurological complication in patients with COVID-19. This review aimed to summarize the clinical manifestations, types, and outcomes of COVID-19-associated AE. Methods A systematic search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases to identify case reports and case series related to COVID-19-associated AE from 1 January 2020 to 31 March 2023. After a thorough screening and evaluation, irrelevant articles were excluded. Relevant information concerning types, clinical manifestations, and outcomes was extracted and synthesized. Results A total of 37 studies, comprising 34 case reports and 3 case series, were included in this review. Among the 42 COVID-19-associated AE patients, 21 (50%) cases were classified as an unknown antibodies (Ab) type of COVID-19-associated AE, 10 (23.80%) cases as anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) encephalitis, 4 (9.5%) cases as limbic encephalitis, and 3 (7.1%) cases as anti-myelin-oligodendrocyte-glycoprotein encephalitis, along with other rare types of AE. Disturbance of consciousness, seizures, and psychiatric symptoms were identified as the main clinical manifestations of COVID-19-associated AE. While the symptoms of AE displayed variation, most patients achieved full recovery although a few experienced residual symptoms of neurological damage. Conclusion This systematic review comprehensively describes the characteristics of COVID-19-associated AE. The main type of COVID-19-associated AE identified in this study is an unknown Ab type of COVID-19-associated AE. Despite the potentially life-threatening risks of COVID-19-associated AE, the majority of patients survived, with some patients reporting residual neurological symptoms.

Abstract
Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles, ranging in size from 30-150nm, which can be derived from various types of cells. In recent years, mammalian-derived exosomes have been extensively studied and found to play a crucial role in regulating intercellular communication, thereby influencing the development and progression of numerous diseases. Traditional Chinese medicine has employed plant-based remedies for thousands of years, and an increasing body of evidence suggests that plant-derived exosome-like nanovesicles (PELNs) share similarities with mammalian-derived exosomes in terms of their structure and function. In this review, we provide an overview of recent advances in the study of PELNs and their potential implications for human health. Specifically, we summarize the roles of PELNs in respiratory, digestive, circulatory, and other diseases. Furthermore, we have extensively investigated the potential shortcomings and challenges in current research regarding the mechanism of action, safety, administration routes, isolation and extraction methods, characterization and identification techniques, as well as drug-loading capabilities. Based on these considerations, we propose recommendations for future research directions. Overall, our review highlights the potential of PELNs as a promising area of research, with broad implications for the treatment of human diseases. We anticipate continued interest in this area and hope that our summary of recent findings will stimulate further exploration into the implications of PELNs for human health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), a standard treatment for paediatric haematological diseases, is highly associated with bloodstream infection (BSI), which may increase mortality. AIM To explore the risk factors for BSI in paediatric HSCT recipients. METHODS Three English databases and four Chinese databases were searched from inception to March 17th, 2022. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and case-control studies that enrolled HSCT recipients aged ≤18 years and reported BSI risk factors. Two reviewers independently screened studies, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias. Using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE), certainty of body of evidence was assessed. FINDINGS Fourteen studies involving 4602 persons were included. The incidences of BSI and associated mortality in paediatric HSCT recipients were approximately 10-50% and 5-15%, respectively. Meta-analysis of all studies revealed that previous BSI before HSCT (relative effect (RE): 2.28; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.19-4.34, moderate certainty) and receiving an umbilical cord blood transplant (RE: 1.55; 95% CI: 1.22-1.97, moderate certainty) were probably associated with an increased risk of BSI. Meta-analysis of studies with low risk of bias reassured that previous BSI before HSCT probably increased the risk of BSI (RE: 2.28; 95% CI: 1.19-4.34, moderate certainty), and revealed that steroid use (RE: 2.72; 95% CI: 1.31-5.64, moderate certainty) was likely a risk factor whereas autologous HSCT was probably a protective factor of BSI (RE: 0.65; 95% CI: 0.45-0.94, moderate certainty). CONCLUSION These findings could inform the management of paediatric HSCT recipients, helping identify who may benefit from prophylactic antibiotics.

Abstract
Introduction: A previous 6-month report showed that adjunctive auricular acupoint stimulation (AAS) slowed myopia progression compared with 0.01% atropine (0.01% A) alone. This 12-month report was to determine whether the antimyopic effect of AAS, when added to 0.01% A, continued beyond treatment cessation, and explore the mode of action of AAS from the accommodative response. Design and Interventions: One hundred four children were randomly assigned to either a 0.01% A group or a 0.01% A + AAS group. Participants in the 0.01% A + AAS group received AAS in addition to 0.01% A for 6 months, and then kept using 0.01% A for the following 6 months. Participants in the 0.01% A group only used 0.01% A. The primary outcome was the difference in the mean cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction (SER) from the baseline to the 12-month visit. Secondary outcomes included axial length (AL) and accommodative lag assessments. Results: The adjusted mean change from baseline to month 12 in the SER was -0.62 D for 0.01% A and -0.46 D for 0.01% A + AAS (difference, 0.16 D; p = 0.01), with a respective mean increase of 0.37 and 0.31 mm in AL (difference, -0.05 mm; p = 0.05). For the 5D near target, there was a reduction in the accommodative lag in children receiving add-on AAS relative to 0.01% A alone at 1 and 6 months (both p = 0.002). Conclusions: AAS treatment produced additional benefits >0.01% A in slowing myopia progression over the 12-month period, where the efficacy was sustained after the cessation of AAS. An effect of add-on AAS on reducing accommodative lag in response to 5D stimulus was found, but its role in mediating therapeutic response remained unclear. Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurses' secondary traumatic stress, compassion satisfaction and posttraumatic growth are closely related, but for newly graduated nurses, there are few reports to evaluate the specific path between these three. The aim of this study was to investigate examine the mediating role of compassion satisfaction in secondary traumatic stress and posttraumatic growth among newly graduated nurses. METHODS From March 2021 to May 2021, a total of 330 newly graduated nurses from five tertiary hospitals in China were enrolled, and asked to complete questionnaires regarding secondary traumatic stress, compassion satisfaction and posttraumatic growth. Descriptive statistics, independent-samples T-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation analysis and structural equation model were used in this study. A STROBE checklist was used to report findings. RESULTS The scores of secondary traumatic stress, compassion satisfaction and posttraumatic growth of newly graduated nurses were 27.11 ± 4.94 (score range: 10-50), 31.89 ± 6.22 (score range: 10-50) and 56.47 ± 20.41 (score range: 0-100), respectively. Additionally, structural equation modeling showed that compassion satisfaction mediated the relationship between secondary traumatic stress and posttraumatic growth with the partial mediating effect of 0.089. CONCLUSIONS Newly graduated nurses may experience moderate secondary traumatic stress, but their posttraumatic growth is at a low level, and compassion satisfaction significantly affects the relationship between the two. Nursing managers should strengthen psychological evaluation, and promote their posttraumatic growth by improving their level of compassion satisfaction.

Abstract
Objectives Conventional glucocorticoid (GC) treatment poses significant risks for opportunistic infections due to its suppressive impact on CD4+ T cells. This study aimed to explore the mechanisms by which GCs modulate the functionality of CD4+ T cells during infection. Methods We consistently measured FOXP3, inflammatory cytokines and phospho-S6 ribosomal protein levels in CD4+ T cells from patients undergoing conventional GC treatment. Using Foxp3EGFP animals, we investigated the dynamic activation of the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) pathway and its correlation with the immunoregulatory function of CD4+ T cells under the influence of GCs. Results GCs dynamically altered the expression pattern of FOXP3 in CD4+ T cells, promoting their acquisition of an active T regulatory (Treg) cell phenotype upon stimulation. Mechanistically, GCs undermined the kinetics of the mTORC1 pathway, which was closely correlated with phenotype conversion and functional properties of CD4+ T cells. Dynamic activation of the mTORC1 signaling modified the GC-dampened immunoregulatory capacity of CD4+ T cells by phenotypically and functionally bolstering the FOXP3+ Treg cells. Interventions targeting the mTORC1 pathway effectively modulated the GC-dampened immunoregulatory capacity of CD4+ T cells. Conclusion These findings highlight a novel mTORC1-mediated mechanism underlying CD4+ T cell immunity in the context of conventional GC treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has dramatically changed the therapeutic area of cancers. A great number of patients with CRC exhibit poor response rate to ICI treatment. N6-methyl adenosine (m6A) is closely correlated with the initiation and progression of cancers. To explore the role of methyltransferase-like 16 (METTL16) in CRC treatment. METHODS Clinical samples and different CRC cell lines were collected. The expression of METTL16 and PD-L1 was determined by qPCR, IHC. Ectopic expression of METTL16 was performed in CRC cells. A co-culture system was established using CRC cells and T cells to measure the immune evasion. Cell viability, apoptosis, migration, and invasion were examined by CCK-8, colony formation, flow cytometry, Transwell, and wound healing assay, respectively. The N6-methyl adenosine (m6A) modification of PD-L1 by METTL16 was investigated by methylated RIP (MeRIP) and RNA stability experiment. In vivo xenograft model was established to measure the effects of METTL16 on CRC growth. RESULTS METTL16 was decreased and PD-L1 was increased in CRC tissues and cell lines. METTL16 enhanced cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and promoted CRC tumor growth in vivo. METTL16 induced m6A modification and decreased the stability of METTL16 RNA, leading to the suppression of METTL16 level. METTL16 overexpression in CRC cells induced decreased portion of PD-1 positive T cells. Overexpression of METTL16 and inhibition of PD-1 synergistically suppressed in vivo growth of CRC cells. CONCLUSIONS Our work identified the METTL16/PD-L1/PD-1 regulatory axis in CRC development and immune evasion, which represented a promising target for CRC treatment.

Abstract
The polymorphism of phosphorus-based materials has garnered much research interest, and the variable chemical bonding structures give rise to a variety of micro and nanostructures. Among the different types of materials containing phosphorus, elemental phosphorus materials (EPMs) constitute the foundation for the synthesis of related compounds. EPMs are experiencing a renaissance in the post-graphene era, thanks to recent advancements in the scaling-down of black phosphorus, amorphous red phosphorus, violet phosphorus, and fibrous phosphorus and consequently, diverse classes of low-dimensional sheets, ribbons, and dots of EPMs with intriguing properties have been produced. The nanostructured EPMs featuring tunable bandgaps, moderate carrier mobility, and excellent optical absorption have shown great potential in energy conversion, energy storage, and environmental remediation. It is thus important to have a good understanding of the differences and interrelationships among diverse EPMs, their intrinsic physical and chemical properties, the synthesis of specific structures, and the selection of suitable nanostructures of EPMs for particular applications. In this comprehensive review, we aim to provide an in-depth analysis and discussion of the fundamental physicochemical properties, synthesis, and applications of EPMs in the areas of energy conversion, energy storage, and environmental remediation. Our evaluations are based on recent literature on well-established phosphorus allotropes and theoretical predictions of new EPMs. The objective of this review is to enhance our comprehension of the characteristics of EPMs, keep abreast of recent advances, and provide guidance for future research of EPMs in the fields of chemistry and materials science.

Abstract
To investigate the efficacy and safety of Jin three needles combined with Tong Qiao Wu Blood-streaming Tang in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS), this retrospective study analyzed the data of patients with AIS between January 2017 and December 2022. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, blood neuron-specific enolase, S100β protein (S100β), fibrinogen (FIB), cerebral infarct volume, D-dimer (D-D), prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time, hypersensitive c-reactive protein (hs-CRP), serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and homocysteine (Hcy) were compared between the 2 groups. The treatment effect was significantly better in the observation group than in the comparison group (P < .05). The NIHSS score, neuron-specific enolase, S100β, and cerebral infarct volume were significantly lower in both groups after treatment than before treatment (P < .05). FIB and D-D levels were significantly lower and APTT and PT levels were significantly higher in both groups after treatment than before treatment (P < .05). TNF-α, hs-CRP, and Hcy were significantly lower in both groups after treatment than before treatment, and TNF-α, hs-CRP and Hcy were significantly lower in the observation group than in the comparison group (P < .05). No statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions occurred between the 2 groups (P > .05). Combining Jin three needles can improve the therapeutic effect in patients with AIS, promote the recovery of neurological function, improve coagulation function, and reduce the inflammatory response with good safety.

Abstract
Introduction Observational studies suggested that diabetes mellitus [type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)], multiple sclerosis (MS), and migraine are associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the causal link has not been fully elucidated. Thus, we aim to assess the causal link between T1DM, T2DM, MS, and migraine with the risk of AD using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study. Methods Genetic instruments were identified for AD, T1DM, T2DM, MS, and migraine respectively from genome-wide association study. MR analysis was conducted mainly using the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method. Results The result of IVW method demonstrated that T2DM is causally associated with risk of AD (OR: 1.237, 95% CI: 1.099-1.391, P: 0.0003). According to the IVW method, there is no causal association between TIDM, MS, migraine, and the risk of AD (all p value > 0.05). Here we show, there is a causal link between T2DM and the risk of AD. Conclusion These findings highlight the significance of active monitoring and prevention of AD in T2DM patients. Further studies are required to actively search for the risk factors of T2DM combined with AD, explore the markers that can predict T2DM combined with AD, and intervene and treat early.

Abstract
Fusarium wilt of banana (FWB) caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense tropical race 4 (Foc TR4), poses a serious problem for sustainable banana production. Biological control is one of the effective measures to control this destructive disease. High-throughput sequencing of soil microorganisms could significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of biocontrol strain screening. In this study, the soil microbial diversity of six main banana-producing areas in Yunnan was sequenced by Illumina Miseq platform. The outcome of this study showed the genus of Chujaibacter, Bacillus, and Sphingomonas were significantly enriched in microorganism community composition. Further correlation analysis with soil pathogen (Foc TR4) content showed that Bacillus was significantly negatively correlated with pathogen content. Therefore, we isolated and identified Bacillus from the disease-suppressive soils, and obtained a B. velezensis strain YN1910. In vitro and pot experiments showed that YN1910 had a significant control effect (78.43-81.76%) on banana Fusarium wilt and had a significant growth promotion effect on banana plants.

Abstract
Sensitive and specific analysis of extracellular vesicles (EVs) offers a promising minimally invasive way to identify malignant pulmonary nodules from benign lesions. However, accurate analysis of EVs is subject to free target proteins in blood samples, which compromises the clinical diagnosis value of EVs. Here a DNA-guided extracellular-vesicle metallization (DEVM) strategy is described for ultrasensitive and specific analysis of EV protein biomarkers and classification of pulmonary nodules. The facile DEVM process mainly includes the incorporation of DNA labeled with cholesterol and thiol groups into EV membranes and subsequent deposition of Au3+ and Pt4+ to allow the DNA-functionalized EVs to be encapsulated with AuPt nanoshells. It is found that the synthesized AuPt-metallized EVs possess extrinsic peroxidase-like activity. Utilizing the feature of the catalytic metal nanoshells just growth on the EV membranes, the DEVM method enables multiparametric recognition of target proteins and EV membranes and can produce an amplified colorimetric signal, avoiding the interference of free proteins. By profiling four surface proteins of EVs from 48 patients with pulmonary nodules, the highest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (0.9983) is obtained. Therefore, this work provides a feasible EVs analysis tool for accurate pulmonary nodules management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In patients with breast atrophy and ptosis, it is necessary to correct both problems simultaneously. This study aimed to analyze breast morphological changes with a three-dimensional (3D) scanning technique to demonstrate the improvement effect of dual-plane breast augmentation combined with internal suture mastopexy. METHODS 3D breast surface scans were performed preoperatively and postoperatively in 24 patients (n = 35 breasts) undergoing internal suture mastopexy combined with prosthetic augmentation through the periareolar approach and 24 patients (48 breasts) undergoing simple dual-plane breast augmentation. Changes in linear distance, breast volume and volume distribution, breast projection, and nipple position were analyzed to assess the breast morphology. RESULTS Compared with simple breast augmentation, augmentation combined with internal suture mastopexy was associated with a higher upper pole volume increase and greater medial and upward nipple displacement. After the surgery, the upper pole volume increased by an average of 10.6% in combined augmentation group and decreased by an average of 2.2% in the simple breast augmentation group. The measured breast projections were 24.8 ± 2.2% lower than expected in the combined group and 23.1 ± 4.1% lower than expected in the simple group, based on implant parameters recorded by the manufacturer. The nipple moved 0.2 ± 0.5 cm laterally, 1.6 ± 0.6 cm upward, and 2.8 ± 0.7 cm anteriorly in the combined group and 0.9 ± 0.5 cm laterally, 0.7 ± 0.6 cm upward, and 3.0 ± 0.6 cm anteriorly in the simple group. CONCLUSIONS Dual-plane breast augmentation in addition to internal suture mastopexy appears to reposition breast tissue from the lower pole to fill in the deficient upper breast, pull the nipple medially and superiorly, and ultimately correct mild to moderate breast ptosis. Abstract
CONTEXT Hospitalized patients with functional impairment have higher symptom burden and mortality. Little is known about how increased patient volume and acuity during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic affected access to palliative care among patients with functional impairment. OBJECTIVES To examine changes in functional status and hospital outcomes among patients receiving inpatient palliative care consultation before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS We conducted a retrospective, multisite cohort study of all adult patients (≥ 18 years) admitted to four hospitals in New York City, USA, who received inpatient palliative care consultation between March 1, 2019 and February 28, 2022 with documented functional status at the time of consultation measured by Karnofsky Performance Status scale. RESULTS Among 13,180 eligible patients identified, patients' functional status at the time of consultation decreased as palliative care consult volume increased with the onset of the pandemic. Compared to pre-pandemic, there was a statistically significant trend of lower functional status (P < 0.001) and higher in-hospital mortality (P < 0.001) among patients with noncancer and non-COVID-19 diagnoses two years after the pandemic. In contrast, patients with cancer had a statistically significant trend of higher functional status (P < 0.001) and no significant changes in in-hospital mortality over time. CONCLUSION As the healthcare system was stressed with high demand and limited resources, palliative care consultation prioritized highest acuity patients by shifting towards those with lower functional status and higher in-hospital mortality. This shift disproportionately affected noncancer patients. Innovative approaches to ensure upstream palliative care consultation during increased resource constraints are needed.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disease and the world's primary cause of dementia among the elderly population. The aggregation of toxic amyloid-beta (Aβ) is one of the main pathological hallmarks of the AD brain. Recently, neuroinflammation has been recognized as one of the major features of AD, which involves a network of interactions between immune cells. The mast cell (MC) is an innate immune cell type known to serve as a first responder to pathological changes and crosstalk with microglia and neurons. Although an increased number of mast cells were found near the sites of Aβ deposition, how mast cells are activated in AD is not clear. We developed a 3D culture system to culture MCs and investigated the activation of MCs by Aβ peptides. Because collagen I is the major component of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the brain, we encapsulated human LADR MCs in gels formed by collagen I. We found that 3D-cultured MCs survived and proliferated at the same level as MCs in suspension. Additionally, they can be induced to secrete inflammatory cytokines as well as MC proteases tryptase and chymase by typical MC activators interleukin 33 (IL-33) and IgE/anti-IgE. Culturing with peptides Aβ1-42, Aβ1-40, and Aβ25-35 caused MCs to secrete inflammatory mediators, with Aβ1-42 inducing the maximum level of activation. These data indicate that MCs respond to amyloid deposition to elicit inflammatory responses and demonstrate the validity of collagen gel as a model system to investigate MCs in a 3D environment to understand neuroinflammation in AD.

Abstract
Enveloped viruses have been the leading causative agents of viral epidemics in the past decade, including the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak. In epidemics caused by enveloped viruses, direct contact is a common route of infection, while indirect transmissions through the environment also contribute to the spread of the disease, although their significance remains controversial. Bridging the knowledge gap regarding the influence of interfacial interactions on the persistence of enveloped viruses in the environment reveals the transmission mechanisms when the virus undergoes mutations and prevents excessive disinfection during viral epidemics. Herein, from the perspective of the driving force, partition efficiency, and viral survivability at interfaces, we summarize the viral and environmental characteristics that affect the environmental transmission of viruses. We expect to provide insights for virus detection, environmental surveillance, and disinfection to limit the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

Abstract
Background Although more and more clinical studies have shown that acupuncture as an auxiliary combined with Western medicine is effective in the treatment of patients with epilepsy, no systematic reviews of acupuncture as a treatment for epilepsy have been published. Hence, we conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of acupuncture treatment on patients with epilepsy. Methods This study retrieved randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture treatment for epilepsy from various electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese BioMedical Literature Database, and Wangfang database. These studies evaluated the effectiveness of acupuncture as an auxiliary treatment combined with Western medicine for patients with epilepsy. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Results A total of 17 RCTs involving a total of 1,389 participants were included. The results showed that acupuncture combined with Western medicine improved the effective rates of treatment (OR: 4.28; 95% CI: 3.04-6.02; p < 0.001), and reduced the seizure frequency of patients (SMD: -3.29; 95% CI: -3.51 to -3.07; p < 0.001) and the EEG discharge frequency (SMD: -5.58; 95% CI: -7.02 to -4.14; p < 0.001). Regarding the quality of life and adverse events, the acupuncture group was superior to the control group in improving the overall quality of life of patients with epilepsy (SMD: 14.41; 95% CI: 12.51-16.32; p < 0.001) and decreased adverse events (OR: 0.38; 95% CI: 0.23-0.63, p < 0.001). Conclusion The results of the analysis suggested that acupuncture combined with Western medicine is probably helpful in patients with epilepsy, but strong supportive data are not yet available. Given that this study is based on a low to moderate evidence-based analysis, the conclusions should be viewed with caution. Systematic review registration PROSPERO, identifier no. CRD42023409923.

Abstract
The application of metagenomic second-generation sequencing (mNGS) is shifting from research to clinical laboratories due to rapid technological advances and significant cost reductions. Although many studies and case reports have confirmed that the success of mNGS in improving the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and tracking of infectious diseases, there are still some obstacles that must be overcome. The results of mNGS show all the possible pathogens in the sample, however, in the face of thousands of microbes that can infect humans, it remains challenging to accurately identify the key pathogens. So far, there is no unified interpretation standard for mNGS in clinical practice. This article reviews the interpretation of mNGS results for pathogen infection in different systems, the clinical interpretation and application regulations of mNGS results, and the challenges of mNGS interpretation in pathogen diagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Islet transplantation is used therapeutically in a minority of patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). However, successful outcomes are hampered by early islet β-cell loss caused by immune rejection and autoimmunity. Recent studies have demonstrated that mesenchymal stromal cells can enhance islet function both in vitro and in vivo by secreting ligands that activate islet G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). Stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1) is an MSC-secreted GPCR ligand, whereas the suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) is a negative regulator of STAT3-activating cytokines. Here, we determined whether improvement in islet function mediated by exogenous SDF-1 is impaired by SOCS3 in experimental models of T1D. METHODS Isolated islets were cultured for 48 h with SDF-1. Cytokine-induced apoptosis was measured immediately. Islets from Socs3-/- mice were pre-cultured with exogenous SDF-1 and transplanted underneath the kidney capsule of C57BL/6 mice with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Blood glucose levels were monitored for 28 days. AMD3100, an antagonist of the SDF-1 ligand CXCR4, was administered subcutaneously to islet transplanted mice to inhibit CXCR4 before and after transplantation. RESULTS SDF-1 protected islet cells from cytokine-induced apoptosis in vitro. SOCS3-knockout (KO) islets pretreated with SDF-1 were effective in reducing blood glucose in non-obese diabetic mice in vivo. We found that SDF-1 elicits localized immunosuppression in transplanted SOCS3-KO islets. Immunomodulation was observed when SOCS-KO islets were preconditioned with SDF-1. Gene expression and flow cytometric analyses revealed significantly decreased immune cell infiltration, inflammatory cytokines, and concomitant increases in FOXP3+ regulatory T cells, alternatively activated M2 macrophages, and dendritic cell phenotypes. Administration of AMD3100 impaired the SDF-1-mediated improvement in SOCS3-KO islet function and local immune suppression. CONCLUSION SDF-1 improves the function of islet grafts in autoimmune diabetes through regulation by CXCR4; however, the presence of SOCS3 reverses the protective effect of SDF-1 on islet grafts. These data reveal a molecular pathway that can elicit localized immunosuppression and delay graft destruction in transplanted islets.

Abstract
Recent advances and achievements of artificial intelligence (AI) as well as deep and graph learning models have established their usefulness in biomedical applications, especially in drug-drug interactions (DDIs). DDIs refer to a change in the effect of one drug to the presence of another drug in the human body, which plays an essential role in drug discovery and clinical research. DDIs prediction through traditional clinical trials and experiments is an expensive and time-consuming process. To correctly apply the advanced AI and deep learning, the developer and user meet various challenges such as the availability and encoding of data resources, and the design of computational methods. This review summarizes chemical structure based, network based, natural language processing based and hybrid methods, providing an updated and accessible guide to the broad researchers and development community with different domain knowledge. We introduce widely used molecular representation and describe the theoretical frameworks of graph neural network models for representing molecular structures. We present the advantages and disadvantages of deep and graph learning methods by performing comparative experiments. We discuss the potential technical challenges and highlight future directions of deep and graph learning models for accelerating DDIs prediction.

Abstract
This study aimed to explore the intervention effect of Chuanxiong-Chishao herb pair(CX-CS) on a myocardial infarction-atherosclerosis(MI-AS) mouse model and investigate its effect on the expression profile of circular RNAs(circRNAs)/long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs) in ischemic myocardium and aorta. Sixty male ApoE~(-/-) mice were randomly assigned to a model group, high-, medium-, and low-dose CX-CS groups(7.8, 3.9, and 1.95 g·kg~(-1)), and a positive drug group(metoprolol 26 mg·kg~(-1) and simvastatin 5.2 mg·kg~(-1)), with 12 mice in each group. Male C57BL/6J mice were assigned to the sham group. The mice in the model group and the groups with drug intervention were fed on a high-fat diet for 10 weeks, followed by anterior descending coronary artery ligation. After that, the mice were fed on a high-fat diet for another two weeks to induce the MI-AS model. The mice in the sham group received normal feed, followed by sham surgery without coronary artery ligation. Mice in the groups with drug intervention received CX-CS or positive drug by gavage for four weeks from the 9th week of high-fat feeding, and those in the model group and the sham group received an equal volume of normal saline. Whole transcriptome sequencing was performed on the heart and aorta tissues of the medium-dose CX-CS group, the model group, and the sham group after administration. The results showed that the medium-and high-dose CX-CS groups showed improved cardiac function and reduced myocardial fibrosis area, and the medium-dose CX-CS group showed significantly reduced plaque area. CX-CS treatment could reverse the expression of circRNA_07227 and circRNA_11464 in the aorta of AS model and circRNA expression(such as circRNA_11505) in the heart of the MI model. Differentially expressed circRNAs between the CX-CS-treated mice and the model mice were mainly enriched in lipid synthesis, lipid metabolism, lipid transport, inflammation, and angiogenesis in the aorta, and in angiogenesis, blood pressure regulation, and other processes in the heart. CX-CS treatment could reverse the expression of lncRNAs such as ENSMUST00000162209 in the aorta of the AS model and TCONS_00002123 in the heart of the MI model. Differentially expressed lncRNAs between the CX-CS-treated mice and model mice were mainly enriched in lipid metabolism, angiogenesis, autophagy, apoptosis, and iron death in the aorta, and in angiogenesis, autophagy, and iron death in the heart. In summary, CX-CS can regulate the expression of a variety of circRNAs and lncRNAs, and its intervention mechanism in coronary heart disease may be related to the regulation of angiogenesis and inflammation in ischemic myocardium, as well as lipid metabolism, lipid transport, inflammation, angiogenesis in AS aorta.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pinellia ternata (P. ternata, Banxia)-containing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is widely used in China as an adjuvant treatment for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). However, evidence of its efficacy and safety remains limited. PURPOSE To investigate the efficacy and safety of P. ternata-containing TCM combined with 5-hydroxytryptamine-3 receptor antagonists (5-HT3RAs) in the treatment of CINV. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). METHODS All relevant RCTs were systematically retrieved from seven internet databases (up to February 10, 2023). P. ternata-containing TCM combined with 5-HT3RAs to treat CINV was included in all RCTs. The clinical effective rate (CER) was defined as the primary outcome, while appetite, quality of life (QOL), and side effects were secondary outcomes. RESULTS The meta-analysis included 22 RCTs with 1,787 patients. Our results indicated that P. ternata-containing TCM combined with 5-HT3RAs significantly improved the CER of CINV (RR = 1.46, 95% CI = 1.37-1.57, p < 0.00001), appetite (RR = 1.77, 95% CI = 1.42-2.20, p < 0.00001), QOL (RR = 7.67, 95% CI = 1.56-13.78, p = 0.01), the CER of several 5-HT3RA medications (RR = 1.47, 95% CI = 1.37-1.57, p < 0.00001), and acute and delayed vomiting (RR = 1.23, 95% CI = 1.12-1.36, p < 0.0001) compared with the 5-HT3RAs alone, while the combination therapy decreased the incidence of side effects induced by 5-HT3RAs for CINV (RR = 0.50, 95% CI = 0.42-0.59, p < 0.00001). CONCLUSION According to the findings of this systematic review and meta-analysis, P. ternata-containing TCM combined with 5-HT3RAs was safer and more effective than 5-HT3RAs alone for CINV patients. However, due to the limitations of the included studies, more high-quality clinical trials are required to further validate our findings.

Abstract
A novel quadrature Doppler Backscattering (DBS) system has been developed and optimized for the E-band (60-90 GHz) frequency range using either O-mode or X-mode polarization in DIII-D plasmas. In general, DBS measures the amplitude of density fluctuations and their velocity in the lab frame. The system can simultaneously monitor both low-frequency turbulence (f < 10 MHz) and radiofrequency plasma density fluctuations over a selectable frequency range (20-500 MHz). Detection of high-frequency fluctuations has been demonstrated for low harmonics of the ion cyclotron frequency (e.g., 2fci ∼ 23 MHz) and externally driven high-frequency helicon waves (f = 476 MHz) using an adjustable frequency down conversion system. Importantly, this extends the application of DBS to a high-frequency spectral domain while maintaining important turbulence and flow measurement capabilities. This unique system has low phase noise, good temporal resolution (sub-millisecond), and excellent wavenumber coverage (kθ ∼ 1-20 cm-1 and kr ≲ 30 cm-1). As a demonstration, localized internal DIII-D plasma measurements are presented from turbulence (f ≤ 5 MHz), Alfvenic waves (f ∼ 6.5 MHz), ion cyclotron waves (f ≥ 20 MHz), as well as fluctuations around 476 MHz driven by an external high-power 476 MHz helicon wave antenna. In the future, helicon measurements will be used to validate GENRAY and AORSA modeling tools for prediction of helicon wave propagation, absorption, and current drive location for the newly installed helicon current drive system on DIII-D.

Abstract
High material cost is the biggest barrier for the industrial use of low-molecular-weight organics (i.e. lactate) as external carbon and electron source for sulfidogenic metal removal in sulfate-rich effluents. This study aims to provide mechanistic evidence from kinetics to microbiome analysis by batch modeling to support the possibility of decreasing the lactate input to achieve cost-effective application. The results showed that gradient COD/SO42- ratios at a low level had promising treatment performance, reaching neutralized pH with nearly total elimination of COD (91%-99%), SO42- (85%-99%), metals (80%-99%) including Cu, Zn, and Mn. First-order kinetics exhibited the best fit (R2 = 0.81-0.98) to (bio)chemical reactions, and the simulation results revealed that higher COD/SO42- accelerated the reaction rate of SO42- and COD but not suitable to that of metals. On the other hand, we found that the decreasing COD/SO42- ratio increased average path distance but decreased clustering coefficient and heterogeneity in microbial interaction network. Genetic prediction found that the sulfate-reduction-related functions were significantly correlated with the reaction kinetics changed with COD/SO42- ratios. Our study, combining reaction kinetics with microbiome analysis, demonstrates that the use of lactate as a carbon source under low COD/SO42- ratios entails significant efficiency of metal removal in sulfate-rich effluent using SRB-based technology. However, further studies should be carried out, including parameter-driven optimization and life cycle assessments are necessary, for its practical application.

Abstract
Individuals with Alzheimer Disease who develop psychotic symptoms (AD + P) experience more rapid cognitive decline and have reduced indices of synaptic integrity relative to those without psychosis (AD-P). We sought to determine whether the postsynaptic density (PSD) proteome is altered in AD + P relative to AD-P, analyzing PSDs from dorsolateral prefrontal cortex of AD + P, AD-P, and a reference group of cognitively normal elderly subjects. The PSD proteome of AD + P showed a global shift towards lower levels of all proteins relative to AD-P, enriched for kinases, proteins regulating Rho GTPases, and other regulators of the actin cytoskeleton. We computationally identified potential novel therapies predicted to reverse the PSD protein signature of AD + P. Five days of administration of one of these drugs, the C-C Motif Chemokine Receptor 5 inhibitor, maraviroc, led to a net reversal of the PSD protein signature in adult mice, nominating it as a novel potential treatment for AD + P.

Abstract
Introduction: Emodin (EMO), a natural derivative of the anthraquinone family mainly extracted from rhubarb (Rheum palmatum), has previously been demonstrated to possess superior anti-inflammatory properties from a single target or pathway. In order to explore the underlying mechanism of action of EMO against rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a network pharmacology approach was employed. Methods: A gene expression profile from GSE55457 available from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database was used to identify the targets of EMO action. Further, single cell RNA sequencing data from GEO database of RA patients (GSE159117) were downloaded and analysed. To further investigate the anti-RA effect of EMO on MH7A cells, the expression of IL-6 and IL-1β were monitored. Finally, RNA-seq analyses were conducted on synovial fibroblasts from EMO-treated. Result: We screened the key targets of EMO against RA using network pharmacology methods, including HMGB1, STAT1, EGR1, NR3C1, EGFR, MAPK14, CASP3, CASP1, IL4, IL13, IKBKB and FN1, and their reliability was verified using ROC curve. Single-cell RNA sequencing data analysis showed that these core target proteins mainly played a role by modulating monocytes. The anti-RA effect of EMO was further verified with MH7A cells, which showed that EMO could block cell differentiation and reduce the expression of IL-6 and IL-1β. WB experiments confirmed that EMO could affect the expression of COX2, HMBG1 and the phosphorylation of p38. Finally, sequencing of synovial fibroblasts from rats treated with EMO showed consistent results with those predicted and verified, further proving the anti-inflammatory effect of EMO. Conclusion: Our research shows that EMO inhibits inflammatory response of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by targeting HMGB1, STAT1, EGR1, NR3C1, EGFR, MAPK14, CASP3, CASP1, IL4, IL13, IKBKB, FN1 and Monocytes/macrophages.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bacterial infections are common during induction therapy in children and adolescents with acute leukaemia and may cause infection-related mortality. AIM To determine the efficacy and safety of prophylactic antibiotics in paediatric patients with acute leukaemia receiving induction chemotherapy. METHODS From three English databases and four Chinese databases, we searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that compared prophylactic antibiotics to placebo, no prophylaxis, or that compared one antibiotic versus another in paediatric patients with acute leukaemia undergoing induction chemotherapy. Two reviewers independently screened the studies, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias using Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and the certainty of evidence using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). FINDINGS Two RCTs and ten cohort studies were finally included. For children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, antibiotic prophylaxis, including levofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, or other antibiotics, probably reduced bacteraemia (risk ratio (RR): 0.44; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.33-0.60; moderate certainty) without significantly increasing Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) or invasive fungal infection. Levofloxacin reduced the CDI rate (RR: 0.08; 95% CI: 0.01-0.62; high certainty). Ciprofloxacin prophylaxis probably reduced infection-related mortality (RR: 0.12; 95% CI: 0.01-0.97; moderate certainty). In children with acute myeloid leukaemia, ciprofloxacin plus vancomycin may reduce febrile neutropenia (RR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.66-0.94; low certainty). Individual studies indicated that prophylaxis increased antibiotic exposure but reduced non-preventive antibiotic exposure. CONCLUSION In children with acute leukaemia undergoing induction therapy, antibiotic prophylaxis may improve the bacterial infection and mortality.

Abstract
Triglyceride and glucose levels are important indicators for determining metabolic syndrome, one of the leading public-health burdens worldwide. Drosophila melanogaster is an ideal model for investigating metabolic diseases because it has 70% homology to human genes and its regulatory mechanism of energy metabolism homeostasis is highly similar to that of mammals. However, traditional analytical methods of triglyceride and glucose are time-consuming, laborious, and costly. In this study, a simple, practical, and reliable near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopic analysis method was developed for the rapid determination of glucose and triglyceride levels in an in vivo model of metabolic disorders using Drosophila induced by high-sugar or high-fat diets. The partial least squares (PLS) model was constructed and optimized using different spectral regions and spectral pretreatment methods. The overall results had satisfactory prediction performance. For Drosophila induced by high-sugar diets, the correlation coefficient (RP) and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) were 0.919 and 0.228 mmoL gprot-1 for triglyceride and 0.913 and 0.143 mmoL gprot-1 for glucose respectively; for Drosophila induced by high-fat diets, the RP and RMSEP were 0.871 and 0.097 mmoL gprot-1 for triglyceride and 0.853 and 0.154 mmoL gprot-1 for glucose, respectively. This study demonstrated the potential of using NIR spectroscopy combined with PLS in the determination of triglyceride and glucose levels in Drosophila, providing a rapid and effective method for monitoring metabolite levels during disease development and a possibility for evaluating metabolic diseases in humans in clinical practice.

Abstract
Gastric carcinoma is a frequent malignant tumor worldwide. NM23 plays an important role in pathological processes, including in the occurrence and development of tumors. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of NM23 transfection of human gastric carcinoma cells (BGC-823) on growth and metastases of BGC-823 abdominal cancer xenografts in nude mice. BGC-823 cells were transfected with an adenovirus vector for NM23 (NM23-OE), transfected with an empty vector (NC), or were not transfected (Ctrl). Eighteen female BALB/c-nu mice were randomly divided into three groups (six per group) according to the type of BGC-823 cells administered by intraperitoneal injection. After 2 weeks, necropsies of mice were performed, abdominal circumferences were measured, and abdominal cavities were searched by ultrasound. In order to observe the xenografts in nude mice, there were gross macroscopic observations and microscopic observations. In addition, immunohistochemical analysis and western blot of NM23 were also performed. Green fluorescence in the NM23-OE and NC cells indicated successful transfection. The multiplicity of infection is 80%. A comparison of the three groups of mice indicated the NM23-OE group had positive conditions (abdominal circumferences: 81.83 ± 2.40 mm), but the other groups had negative conditions and enlarged abdomens (NC: 90.83 ± 2.32 mm; Ctrl: 92.67 ± 2.07 mm). Ultrasound observations confirmed large tumors in the NC and Ctrl groups, but did not find in the NM23-OE group. There were no obvious ascites in the NM23-OE group, but the cytological examination of ascites exfoliation in NC and Ctrl groups indicated that there were large and deep-stained gastric carcinoma cells. Tumor expression of NM23 was greater in the NM23-OE group than in the NC and Ctrl groups (both p < 0.05). In conclusion, transfection of BCG-823 cells with NM23 rather than an empty vector (NC) or no vector (Ctrl) led to reduced growth and metastases of abdominal cancer xenografts in nude mice.

Abstract
Previous studies have shown that the structural and functional impairments of hippocampal subregions in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are related to cognitive impairment. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment can improve the clinical symptoms of OSA. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate functional connectivity (FC) changes in hippocampal subregions of patients with OSA after six months of CPAP treatment (post-CPAP) and its relationship with neurocognitive function. We collected and analyzed baseline (pre-CPAP) and post-CPAP data from 20 patients with OSA, including sleep monitoring, clinical evaluation, and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. The results showed that compared with pre-CPAP OSA patients, the FC between the right anterior hippocampal gyrus and multiple brain regions, and between the left anterior hippocampal gyrus and posterior central gyrus were reduced in post-CPAP OSA patients. By contrast, the FC between the left middle hippocampus and the left precentral gyrus was increased. The changes in FC in these brain regions were closely related to cognitive dysfunction. Therefore, our findings suggest that CPAP treatment can effectively change the FC patterns of hippocampal subregions in patients with OSA, facilitating a better understanding of the neural mechanisms of cognitive function improvement, and emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment of OSA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurses' organizational citizenship behavior, a spontaneous "altruistic work behavior", may be affected by psychological capital and organizational commitment, but its mechanism is not clear. The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics and distribution of psychological capital, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior among nurses during the COVID-19 epidemic, and explore the mediating role of organizational commitment in psychological capital and organizational citizenship behavior. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 746 nurses from 6 designated hospitals for COVID-19 treatment in China. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and structural equation model were used in this study. RESULTS Nurses' psychological capital, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior scores were 103.12 ± 15.57, 46.53 ± 7.14 and 101.47 ± 12.14, respectively. Additionally, organizational commitment partially mediates between psychological capital and organizational citizenship behavior. CONCLUSIONS During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses' psychological capital, organizational commitment, and organizational citizenship behavior were found to be at an upper-middle level, influenced by various social-demographic factors. Furthermore, the results illustrated that psychological capital can affect organizational citizenship behavior through the mediating role of organizational commitment. Therefore, the findings emphasize the importance of nursing administration to monitor and prioritize the mental health and organizational behavior of nurses during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. It is crucial to focus on developing and nurturing nurses' psychological capital, strengthening their organizational commitment, and ultimately promoting their organizational citizenship behavior.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine prevalence of novel newborn types among 541 285 live births in 23 countries from 2000 to 2021. DESIGN Descriptive multi-country secondary data analysis. SETTING Subnational, population-based birth cohort studies (n = 45) in 23 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) spanning 2000-2021. POPULATION Liveborn infants. METHODS Subnational, population-based studies with high-quality birth outcome data from LMICs were invited to join the Vulnerable Newborn Measurement Collaboration. We defined distinct newborn types using gestational age (preterm [PT], term [T]), birthweight for gestational age using INTERGROWTH-21st standards (small for gestational age [SGA], appropriate for gestational age [AGA] or large for gestational age [LGA]), and birthweight (low birthweight, LBW [<2500 g], nonLBW) as ten types (using all three outcomes), six types (by excluding the birthweight categorisation), and four types (by collapsing the AGA and LGA categories). We defined small types as those with at least one classification of LBW, PT or SGA. We presented study characteristics, participant characteristics, data missingness, and prevalence of newborn types by region and study. RESULTS Among 541 285 live births, 476 939 (88.1%) had non-missing and plausible values for gestational age, birthweight and sex required to construct the newborn types. The median prevalences of ten types across studies were T+AGA+nonLBW (58.0%), T+LGA+nonLBW (3.3%), T+AGA+LBW (0.5%), T+SGA+nonLBW (14.2%), T+SGA+LBW (7.1%), PT+LGA+nonLBW (1.6%), PT+LGA+LBW (0.2%), PT+AGA+nonLBW (3.7%), PT+AGA+LBW (3.6%) and PT+SGA+LBW (1.0%). The median prevalence of small types (six types, 37.6%) varied across studies and within regions and was higher in Southern Asia (52.4%) than in Sub-Saharan Africa (34.9%). CONCLUSIONS Further investigation is needed to describe the mortality risks associated with newborn types and understand the implications of this framework for local targeting of interventions to prevent adverse pregnancy outcomes in LMICs.

Abstract
In the mammalian brain, neurogenesis is maintained throughout adulthood primarily in two typical niches, the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus and the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles and in other nonclassic neurogenic areas (e.g., the amygdala and striatum). During prenatal and early postnatal development, neural stem cells (NSCs) differentiate into neurons and migrate to appropriate areas such as the olfactory bulb where they integrate into existing neural networks; these phenomena constitute the multistep process of neurogenesis. Alterations in any of these processes impair neurogenesis and may even lead to brain dysfunction, including cognitive impairment and neurodegeneration. Here, we first summarize the main properties of mammalian neurogenic niches to describe the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurogenesis. Accumulating evidence indicates that neurogenesis plays an integral role in neuronal plasticity in the brain and cognition in the postnatal period. Given that neurogenesis can be highly modulated by a number of extrinsic and intrinsic factors, we discuss the impact of extrinsic (e.g., alcohol) and intrinsic (e.g., hormones) modulators on neurogenesis. Additionally, we provide an overview of the contribution of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection to persistent neurological sequelae such as neurodegeneration, neurogenic defects and accelerated neuronal cell death. Together, our review provides a link between extrinsic/intrinsic factors and neurogenesis and explains the possible mechanisms of abnormal neurogenesis underlying neurological disorders.

Abstract
Diabetic keratopathy (DK) is a common ocular complication of diabetes in which the dendritic cells (DCs)-mediated inflammatory response plays an important role. Nerve growth factor (NGF)/Tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA)-mediated inhibition of the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway can reduce inflammatory cytokine production. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mouse adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (mADSC-EVs) have been explored extensively as treatments for degenerative eye disease. However, mADSC-EVs is poorly studied in the DK models. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of mADSC-EVs and explored the underlying mechanisms in vitro and in vivo DK models. Our results showed that mADSC-EVs have significant therapeutic effects including increasing tear volume and the ratio of lacrimal gland/body weight, promoting corneal nerve regeneration, and sensation recovery in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DK mice. In addition, mADSC-EVs significantly reduced the inflammatory response involving DCs, consistently up-regulated protein expression of the NGF/TrkA pathway, and importantly, reduced lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated IL-6 and TNF-α expression and directly dependent on TrkA in the induced culture of bone marrow-derived DCs (BMDCs). Taken together, our findings revealed that mADSC-EVs promoted diabetic corneal epithelial wound healing through NGF/TrkA pathway activation involving DCs. Given the significant therapeutic efficacy of mADSC-EVs and its clinical application, mADSC-EVs appears to be a promising new therapy for DK.
