Abstract
AIMS AND DESIGN This study reports a qualitative phenomenological investigation of resilience in nursing staff working in a high-secure personality disorder service. METHOD Interviews were carried out with six nursing staff, and these captured the richness and complexity of the lived experience of nursing staff. RESULTS Four superordinate themes emerged from the analysis: Management of emotions: participants showed an awareness that their job is about giving care to patients who may present with very challenging behaviours. The care that they offered was conceptualized as something that needed to be provided in a measured way, with boundaries. A clear distinction was drawn between 'caring personally' for patients, and 'providing care'. Teamwork: teamwork was cited as a major influencing factor by all participants. This was seen as directly impacting the smooth running of the ward, and therefore on the well-being of nursing staff, but also of patients. Understanding: nursing staff were acutely aware that they were working in an environment where everyday interactions would be open to intense scrutiny and possible misinterpretation by patients. Work-life balance: All the participants spoke of making a conscious effort to have a separate work and home life, which was influenced by a number of factors. CONCLUSION The article has discussed the themes of managing emotion, team understanding and work-life balance, illustrating how each contributes to the resilience of nursing staff in this challenging environment. New insights - applicable in both national and international contexts - have been produced. IMPACT In secure environments, mental health nursing staff need organizational support and assistance to develop ways of managing difficult experiences with patients, systems that promote recovery, and educational and supervisory support to help understand and process the effects on them. Abstract
Knowledge seems to mitigate the consequences of dementia and new educational strategies are required. This study aimed to qualitatively explore the reflexive views and experiences of virtual Communities of Practice (vCoP) among informal and formal caregivers of people with dementia and explore vCoP as a tool for learning and knowledge development. Data were collected in a sequence of virtual workshops and analyzed and synthesized using thematic analysis. For the informal caregivers, one main theme emerged: Learning and support, comprising three subthemes: Strategies for learning; Creating emotional support; and in need of professional support. Among formal caregivers, one main theme emerged: Professional development, comprising two subthemes: Sharing and gaining knowledge and Knowledge as a professional tool. vCoP and collaborative learning using an educational platform seem to support learning and professional development among informal and formal caregivers, respectively. As a collaborative, virtual activities seem to provide practical and emotional support and promote professional development; vCoP seem to have the potential to promote the resilience and sustainability of care. Further research is necessary to gain an understanding of the effects of Communities of Practice (CoP) and vCoP and their successful implementation in care practices as well as the potential of using CoP in continuing professional development, CPD.

Abstract
Introduction Among clinical healthcare personnel, nurses face the highest proportion of workplace violence, which has a significant impact on their physical and mental well-being as well as their personal and professional lives. However, little is known about the effects of workplace violence on inexperienced breastfeeding nurses and their experiences during and after breastfeeding when they return to work. This study aimed to explore the experiences of inexperienced breastfeeding nurses who encountered workplace violence and its resulting impacts. Methods This study employed a descriptive qualitative design. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 nurses working in various positions and departments at three tertiary hospitals. Purposive and maximum variation sampling techniques were employed. The interview data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method, and the research findings were reported according to Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Studies (COREQ)standards. Results Inferences regarding workplace violence and risks for inexperienced breastfeeding nurses included physical labor (such as lifting heavy objects and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation), conflicts, inadequate job skills, role confusion, occupational exposure risks, patient violence, and pressure from older adults. An inductive thematic investigation revealed the "Challenges faced during breastfeeding," "Conflicting professional and family roles," "Out of balance," and "Coping strategies." Conclusion Inexperienced breastfeeding nurses experience several negative consequences due to workplace violence. Therefore, it is essential to plan and implement preventive strategies and management programs that specifically target workplace violence among inexperienced breastfeeding nurses.

Abstract
Organisations deploy digital platforms to maximise value and transform their businesses. The success of most platforms is attributed to Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), the protocols enabling different software to communicate with each other. However, previous research on APIs has predominantly focused on the technical dimensions, such as design, and unintentionally neglected other social areas, such as organisational outcomes. This study seeks to advance organisational API research by adopting an agility perspective to explore the agility outcomes after API integration. Through rich qualitative data from a music digital firm, the findings revealed four primary agility outcomes: customer agility in the form of swift customer feedback, operational agility in the form of improved business process and delay reduction, partner agility in the form of embracing flexibility in processes and structures and expanding their ecosystem and decision agility in the form of fast decision making. A model showing the interplay and interdependencies of the agility outcomes was developed and provided depth and clarity to the findings. This study extends the literature by establishing how API integration influences organisational agility under conditions such as possessing capabilities and managing tensions during the integration process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Approximately 13% of women in the United States of reproductive age seek infertility services. Assisted reproductive technology (ART), including in vitro fertilization, is used to help patients achieve pregnancy. Many people are not familiar with these treatments prior to becoming patients and possess knowledge gaps about care. METHODS This study employed qualitative methods to investigate how patients interact with information sources during care. Patients who underwent ART including embryo transfer between January 2017 and April 2022 at a large urban healthcare center were eligible. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted between August and October 2022. Fifteen females with an average age of 39 years participated. Reflexive thematic analysis was performed. RESULTS Two main themes emerged. Participants (1) utilized clinic-provided information and then turned to outside sources to fill knowledge gaps; (2) struggled to learn about costs, insurance, and mental health resources to support care. Participants preferred clinic-provided resources and then utilized academic sources, the internet, and social media when they had unfulfilled information needs. Knowledge gaps related to cost, insurance, and mental health support were reported. CONCLUSION ART clinics can consider providing more information about cost, insurance, and mental health support to patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION The Massachusetts General Hospital Institutional Review Board approved this study (#2022P000474) and informed consent was obtained from each participant.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Systematic biases in group decision making (i.e., group biases) may result in suboptimal decisions and potentially harm patients. It is not well known how impaired group decision making in patient care may affect medical training. This study aimed to explore medical residents' experiences and perspectives regarding impaired group decision making and the role of group biases in medical decision making. METHODS This study used a qualitative approach with thematic analysis underpinned by a social constructionist epistemology. Semi-structured interviews of medical residents were conducted at a single internal medicine residency program. Residents were initially asked about their experiences with suboptimal medical decision making as a group or team. Then, questions were targeted to several group biases (groupthink, social loafing, escalation of commitment). Interviews were transcribed and transferred to a qualitative data analysis software. Thematic analysis was conducted to generate major themes within the dataset. RESULTS Sixteen interviews with residents revealed five major themes: (1) hierarchical influence on group decision making; (2) group decision making under pressure; (3) post-call challenges in decision making; (4) interactions between teamwork and decision making; and (5) personal and cultural influences in group decision making. Subthemes were also identified for each major theme. Most residents were able to recognize groupthink in their past experiences working with medical teams. Residents perceived social loafing or escalation of commitment as less relevant for medical team decision making. CONCLUSIONS Our findings provide unique insights into the complexities of group decision making processes in teaching hospitals. Team hierarchy significantly influenced residents' experiences with group decision making-most group decisions were attributed to consultants or senior team members, while lower ranking team members contributed less and perceived fewer opportunities to engage in group decisions. Other factors such as time constraints on decision making, perceived pressures from other staff members, and challenges associated with post-call days were identified as important barriers to optimal group decision making in patient care. Future studies may build upon these findings to enhance our understanding of medical team decision making and develop strategies to improve group decisions, ultimately leading to higher quality patient care and training.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a complex multifactorial condition with an increasing prevalence probably due to a rising awareness. Chronic pelvic pain syndrome is pain in the pelvic area and often accompanied with complaints in other organ systems of the lesser pelvis. Patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome who present at our center are evaluated in a standardized care pathway with an integrated multidisciplinary consultation. The team works in a single center and consists of gynecologists, pain specialists, urologists, a pelvic floor physiotherapist and a psychologist. The aim of this interview study is to evaluate the value of the multidisciplinary consultation from the patient's perspectives. METHODS In a qualitative study, we evaluated the experiences and perspectives of patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome concerning the multidisciplinary consultation at the Radboud University Medical Center. Semistructured interviews were conducted with patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome who attended a multidisciplinary consultation between 2019 and 2022. All interviews were transcribed verbatim, coded and analyzed via ATLAS.ti with the conventional content analysis. RESULTS Data saturation was reached after seven interviews, followed by three confirmative interviews. In total, 10 patients (22-76 years) participated in the study. Three relevant themes were identified in the interviews: the deleterious effects of pain on overall health, the importance of the design of the multidisciplinary consultation, and the performance of healthcare professionals (knowledge, skills and interaction with patients and colleagues). Participants suggested that although the consultation did not improve their pain experience, there was value in having a comprehensive assessment of their disease. Patients preferred the consultation to occur at the beginning of the care. Additionally, they acknowledged the performance of healthcare providers and having their complaints recognized. However, some participants suggested the need for additional attention to mental health issues during the multidisciplinary consultation. DISCUSSION Even though patients did not perceive the multidisciplinary consultation to improve their pain experience, they appreciated the sense of recognition by this team. CONCLUSION A multidisciplinary consultation is of value from the patients' perspective. A suggestion for improvement emerged where the multidisciplinary consultation should occur at the beginning of the patient journey.

Abstract
The recovery process in bipolar disorder is a subjective and multidimensional experience that seeks to develop new meanings and purposes for living a satisfying life despite the limitations imposed by the disorder. Thus, this qualitative study aimed to explore the perceptions of recovery and the meanings attributed by individuals undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder to the elements considered relevant in this process. Semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions were conducted to explore the experiences and perspectives of recovery in individuals undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder. Grounded Theory was used as the method for qualitative analysis. The study included 26 participants aged between 18 and 65 years. Based on the analysis of participant reports, we identified two main themes: living with the illness and what it means to be in recovery. The perception of recovery is an individual process and can differ from the medical model. Participants suggest that accepting the diagnosis of bipolar disorder and finding meaning in life are essential to their recovery. They also describe how mental health professionals can facilitate or hinder this process. Understanding patients' perceptions can facilitate access to healthcare services and treatment adherence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A recommendation by the World Health Organization (WHO) was issued about the use of chest imaging to monitor pulmonary sequelae following recovery from COVID-19. This qualitative study aimed to explore the perspective of key stakeholders to understand their valuation of the outcome of the proposition, preferences for the modalities of chest imaging, acceptability, feasibility, impact on equity and practical considerations influencing the implementation of using chest imaging. METHODS A qualitative descriptive design using in-depth interviews approach. Key stakeholders included adult patients who recovered from the acute illness of COVID-19, and providers caring for those patients. The Evidence to Decision (EtD) conceptual framework was used to guide data collection of contextual and practical factors related to monitoring using imaging. Data analysis was based on the framework thematic analysis approach. RESULTS 33 respondents, including providers and patients, were recruited from 15 different countries. Participants highly valued the ability to monitor progression and resolution of long-term sequelae but recommended the avoidance of overuse of imaging. Their preferences for the imaging modalities were recorded along with pros and cons. Equity concerns were reported across countries (e.g., access to resources) and within countries (e.g., disadvantaged groups lacked access to insurance). Both providers and patients accepted the use of imaging, some patients were concerned about affordability of the test. Facilitators included post- recovery units and protocols. Barriers to feasibility included low number of specialists in some countries, access to imaging tests among elderly living in nursing homes, experience of poor coordination of care, emotional exhaustion, and transportation challenges driving to a monitoring site. CONCLUSION We were able to demonstrate that there is a high value and acceptability using imaging but there were factors influencing feasibility, equity and some practical considerations associated with implementation. We had a few suggestions to be considered by the expert panel in the formulation of the guideline to facilitate its implementation such as using validated risk score predictive tools for lung complications to recommend the appropriate imaging modality and complementary pulmonary function test.

Abstract
Canada welcomes a large number of newcomers every year including international students and their families. The over 800,000 international students who arrived in Canada in 2022, are twice as likely to face difficulties in accessing healthcare services compared to those who were born in Canada. Lack of access to healthcare services may jeopardize their full participation in Canadian society. Pharmacists are highly accessible healthcare providers due to their regular contact with the public, extended working hours, and wide distribution of pharmacies. Given the expanding role of pharmacists in Canada, pharmacists can be a great resource for international newcomers to address their healthcare needs when transitioning to the Canadian healthcare system and exploring available services. In this study, we will explore how international students and their families, who make up a significant segment of newcomers to Canada each year, transition to Canada's healthcare system and identify their main challenges related to developing coping skills for managing diseases and navigating the complexities of prescription and nonprescription medication use. To do so, we will conduct virtual interviews with newcomer international students who have lived experience with transitioning to the Canadian healthcare system. This study will help understand the international student experience and identify how pharmacists can deliver a tailored package of pharmaceutical services to this population to best address their healthcare needs when transitioning to the Canadian healthcare system with the goal of reducing healthcare gaps and inequities. By exploring the healthcare challenges faced by these students, our findings will help pinpoint precise areas where pharmacists can practice to their full scope including medication management, patient education, and transitional care. Consequently, the study will offer detailed recommendations on how pharmacists can better support this population and thereby help alleviate the overall strain on the primary healthcare system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Micronutrient deficiencies disproportionately affect various populations, influenced by a complex interplay of socioeconomic factors. This study delves into the intricate relationship between socioeconomic status and micronutrient access, emphasizing the perceptions of affordability, availability, and the impact of social support networks. METHODS A qualitative research design was employed, using purposive sampling to enlist a diverse cohort of participants from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. The methodology comprised semi-structured interviews and focus groups to gather detailed insights into the participants' experiences and views on micronutrient access. The analysis framework was based on the Social Ecological Model (SEM), enabling an in-depth examination of individual, interpersonal, community, and societal influences. RESULTS With 30 participants, aged 20-70, representing a range of unique characteristics such as differing health conditions, cultural backgrounds, and economic statuses, the study uncovered five key themes: Individual-Level Factors, Interpersonal Relationships, Community Environment, Societal Factors, and Intersectionality. These themes illustrate how personal dietary habits, social networks, community resources, and broader socioeconomic policies converge to shape micronutrient access, emphasizing the complex interplay of overlapping social identities and structural barriers. CONCLUSION The findings highlight the need for holistic nutrition interventions that account for the extensive spectrum of socioeconomic determinants. This study not only enriches the theoretical underpinnings of the SEM but also provides actionable insights for crafting targeted strategies to enhance micronutrient access and ameliorate dietary inequities. It advocates for comprehensive public health initiatives attuned to the nuanced needs and hurdles faced by diverse demographic sectors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Problematic Internet use is characterized by excessive use of online platforms that can result in social isolation, family problems, psychological distress, and even suicide. Problematic Internet use has been associated with cannabis use disorder, however knowledge on the adult population remains limited. In Quebec, cannabis use has significatively increased since 2018, and it is associated with various risks in public safety, public health, and mental health. This study aims to identify factors associated with problematic Internet use among adult cannabis users and to better understand their experiences. METHOD This project is a mixed explanatory sequential study consisting of two phases. Phase 1 (n = 1500) will be a cross-sectional correlational study using probability sampling to examine variables that predispose individuals to problematic Internet use, characteristics associated with cannabis use, Internet use, and the mental health profile of adult cannabis users in Quebec. Descriptive analyses and regression models will be used to determine the relationship between cannabis use and Internet use. Phase 2 (n = 45) will be a descriptive qualitative study in the form of semi-structured interviews aimed at better understanding the experience and background of cannabis users with probable problematic Internet use. DISCUSSION The results of this study will support the development of public policies and interventions for the targeted population, by formulating courses of action that contribute to the prevention and reduction of harms associated with cannabis use and problematic Internet use. Furthermore, an integrated knowledge mobilization plan will aid in the large-scale dissemination of information that can result useful to decision-makers, practitioners, members of the scientific community, and the general population regarding the use of cannabis and the Internet.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Visual impairment is a disability that can have a significant impact on the ability to take medication safely. As a result, pharmacists must adjust their practice to provide targeted and adapted support for this type of patient. AIM The aims of the present study were (1) to illustrate the usual clinical practice of community pharmacists to support the optimisation of medication use in visually impaired patients, and (2) to identify solutions to improve pharmaceutical care for visually impaired patients. METHOD Semi-structured interviews with 18 French-speaking community pharmacists were conducted via videoconference in Belgium. Participants were recruited on a voluntary basis and through a snowball method. An interview guide was developed based on literature review. Interviews were carried out until theoretical saturation of the data, recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using thematic analysis. Data were organised by NVivo Software. RESULTS Four themes were identified: community pharmacists' training, identification of visually impaired patients by the pharmacist, communication with visually impaired patients and their proxies, and provision of appropriate pharmaceutical care. Participants stated that they had not received any training regarding visual impairment. They described that they did not always know how to recognise visually impaired patients and that communication was often difficult. CONCLUSION This qualitative study has highlighted a lack of knowledge and skills among community pharmacists regarding visual impairment. One possible solution could be to develop recommendations and tools to improve the care of these patients.

Stress experience by information and communication technologies among nurses in outpatient care - A qualitative interview study Abstract: Background: "Work 4.0" is also becoming increasingly prevalent in outpatient care through information and communication technologies (ICT). In addition to a variety of options that ICT offers nursing staff, its use leads to additional stresses. Aims: The aim of the study is to identify relevant stress categories that are caused using ICT and provide an additional influence on the stress experience of employees in outpatient care. Methods: Problem-centred interviews were conducted with eight nurses from three outpatient care organizations as part of a qualitative study. Subsequently, these interviews were transcribed and evaluated using qualitative content analysis according to Mayring. Results: Ten factors were identified that were perceived as stress by ambulatory care employees: for example, insufficient participation and usability, increased documentation effort, information overload. Regarding the employees' ability to work and their health, no relevant impairments could be derived that could be attributed to the identified additional strains. Conclusions: Further analysis of the potential stress situations that could result from ICT use is needed to include this knowledge in primary prevention. It makes sense to establish demand-, participation-, and process-oriented structures in outpatient care organizations. The use of ICT can also be an advantage because, for example, information can be obtained more quickly.

Abstract
Insomnia is prevalent in patients suffering from depression and may itself exacerbate the disability associated with depression and impede the path to recovery. Although crucial in ensuring meaningful interactions and interventions for patients, research on patients' experiences of depression-related insomnia and its treatment is limited. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate how adult patients with depression-related insomnia experience sleeping with a weighted Protac Ball Blanket®, focusing on how the blanket feels and works and contributes to their subjective sleep quality experience. An inductive content analysis approach was adopted. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 patients. Four categories were identified: 1) Deep and dynamic touch pressure from the plastic balls induced calmness; 2) Changing sensory impressions from the rolling balls distracted attention from distressing thoughts and emotions; 3) The ball blanket improved the quality and quantity of sleep, which increased daily well-being; 4) Sleeping with the ball blanket was associated with positive as well as negative experiences depending on personal preferences for sensory stimulation. This study explains how the Protac Ball Blanket® as a potential non-pharmacological sleep-intervention improved the sleep of adult patients with depression-related insomnia. The blanket was found meaningful for coping with sleeplessness and with mental and physical unrest.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study examined the difficulties and obstacles faced by healthcare professionals in implementing Iraq's national plan for hepatitis B virus (HBV) control. This research aims to offer valuable insights into the intricacies of HBV control efforts and identify key areas for improvement. METHODS In this qualitative study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of 10 physicians, representing diverse medical specialties and healthcare settings, including experts in the fields of medical sciences. Data analysis was conducted using MAXQDA software, version 24 (VERBI Software GmbH, Berlin, Germany) to identify recurring themes and gain insights into the challenges encountered during the implementation of the national plan. RESULTS Ten physicians participated in the study, providing insights into challenges and barriers hindering the effective implementation of Iraq's national plan for HBV control. Consensus among participants highlighted challenges such as resource constraints, inadequate infrastructure, population ignorance, and vaccine refusal. Documentation challenges, including inaccuracies in reporting HBV-associated mortality, were also noted. Barriers to successful implementation included poor public awareness, inadequate education for healthcare providers, and funding shortages. Unmet needs highlighted the necessity for unified protocols, surveillance systems, and international training programs. The improvement strategies proposed by participants emphasized raising awareness, supporting primary healthcare centers, and enhancing funding allocation. CONCLUSION This study underscores significant challenges in implementing Iraq's national plan for HBV control, with barriers ranging from resource constraints to communication barriers. Healthcare professionals advocate for targeted interventions, collaborative efforts, and policy measures to address these challenges effectively. The findings contribute to the evidence base for enhancing HBV control efforts in Iraq and emphasize the importance of tailored approaches to public health interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Globally, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are increasingly the primary cause of mortality and morbidity among women. Like many developing countries, Bangladesh also faces a growing burden of NCDs. The "Multisectoral Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases, 2018-2025" signifies Bangladesh's commitment to comprehensively combating the rising burden of NCDs. This study investigates the perceptions of those involved in developing the action plan and if/how a gender lens was incorporated into its implementation. METHODS In-depth interviews were conducted with 25 key individuals involved in a high-level committee to develop and implement Bangladesh's multisectoral action plan to address the burden of NCDs. Data were collected between July and November 2021, and thematic analysis was conducted. RESULTS The findings revealed that interviewees believed the multisectoral action plan adopted a population-wide approach without considering gender-specific needs. This study presents the explanations for this inattention under five themes: (1) A population-level approach to NCD prevention; (2) Understanding women's health beyond reproductive health; (3) Absence of gender-specific programs; (4) Lack of consideration of gender constraints on physical activity; and (5) Lack of collaborative efforts to address NCDs beyond the health ministry. CONCLUSION In conclusion, governments in countries like Bangladesh can develop more effective strategies to reduce the disease burden of NCDs among women by recognizing and addressing the gendered nature of preventive health. This can be achieved by promoting gender-responsive research, programs, and policy initiatives that consider women's specific health concerns, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for all.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Feedback is integral to medical education, enabling students to improve their knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Feedback practices may vary according to prevalent cultural and contextual factors. This study aimed to explore how feedback is conceptualized and practised in the clinical education of medical students in Sri Lanka. METHODS The study was conducted in three medical schools and affiliated hospitals that represent the cultural diversity of Sri Lanka. Purposive sampling was utilized to recruit clinical teachers and students who would provide rich information for the study. The study had three components: an observation study, interviews with clinical teachers and focus group discussions with clinical students. During the observation study, video recording was used as a data collection tool to observe feedback in real-life clinical teaching/learning settings. A constructivist grounded theory approach was adapted for analysis to explore current practices and perceptions inductively. RESULTS Feedback was conceptualised as spontaneous unidirectional provision of information for the improvement of students. It was often provided in public settings and in student groups. Error correction was the primary focus of feedback, but both teachers and students desired a balanced approach with reinforcement and reflection. Although the direct approach to corrective feedback was found beneficial for student learning, participants agreed that harsh feedback was to be avoided. The hierarchical culture and lack of programmed feedback in the curricula influenced feedback practices, suggesting the need for modification. CONCLUSIONS This study highlighted feedback practices in the local context, emphasizing the need to address the hierarchical gap in clinical settings, balance reinforcement and correction, and promote dialogue and reflection in the feedback processes. The findings will help clinical teachers from both the global south as well as the global north to recognize cultural and contextual differences in providing feedback.

Abstract
Primary care needs to find strategies to deal with today's societal challenges and continue to deliver efficient and high-quality care. Employee-driven innovation is increasingly gaining ground as an accessible pathway to developing successful and sustainable organisations. This type of innovation is characterised by employees being engaged in the innovation process, based on a bottom-up approach. This qualitative study explores employees' experiences of employee-driven innovation at a primary care centre in Sweden. Data are collected by focus group interviews and analysed by inductive qualitative content analysis. The result is presented with the overarching theme "Standing together at the helm" followed by three categories: "Motivating factors for practising employee-driven innovation", "Challenges in practising employee-driven innovation" and "Benefits of employee-driven innovation", including nine subcategories. The study found that employee-driven innovation fosters organisational innovation, empowers employees, and enhances adaptability at personal and organisational levels. This enables individual and collective learning, and facilitates the shaping, development, and adaptation of working methods to meet internal and external requirements. However, new employees encountered difficulty grasping the concept of employee-driven innovation and recognising its long-term advantages. Additionally, the demanding and task-focused environment within primary care posed challenges in sustaining efforts in innovation work. The employees also experienced a lack of external support to drive and implement some innovative ideas.

Abstract
Introduction Role models are powerful contributors to residents' professional identity formation (PIF) by exhibiting the values and attributes of the community. While substantial knowledge on different attributes of role models exists, little is known about their influence on residents' PIF. The aim of this study was to explore surgical residents' experiences with role models and to understand how these contribute to residents' PIF. Methods Adopting a social constructivist paradigm, the authors used a grounded theory approach to develop an explanatory model for residents' experiences with role models regarding PIF. Fourteen surgical residents participated in individual interviews. The authors iteratively performed data collection and analysis, and applied constant comparison to identify relevant themes. Results Role model behavior is highly situation dependent. Therefore, residents learn through specific 'role model moments'. These moments arise when residents (1) feel positive about a moment, e.g. "inspiration", (2) have a sense of involvement, and (3) identify with their role model. Negative role model moments ('troll model moments') are dominated by negative emotions and residents reject the modeled behavior. Residents learn through observation, reflection and adapting modeled behavior. As a result, residents negotiate their values, strengthen attributes, and learn to make choices on the individual path of becoming a surgeon. Discussion The authors suggest a nuance in the discussion on role modelling: from 'learning from role models' to 'learning from role model moments'. It is expected that residents' PIF will benefit from this approach since contextual factors and individual needs are emphasized. Residents need to develop antennae for both role model moments and troll model moments and acquire the skills to learn from them. Role model moments and troll model moments are strong catalysts of PIF as residents follow in the footsteps of their role models, yet learn to go their own way.

Abstract
This study primarily aimed to explore the capabilities of digitalisation in the healthcare context, focusing on a specific disease. In this case, the study examined the potential of remote monitoring of gait to address the sensitivity of multiple sclerosis progression to gait characteristics by adopting a non-invasive approach to remotely quantify gait disturbances in a patient's daily life. To better understand the managerial aspects associated with this approach, the researchers conducted a literature review along with a set of semi-structured interviews. The target population included MS patients as well as the key agents involved in their care: patients' family members, neurologists, MS nurses, physiotherapists, medical directors, and pharmacist. The study identifies the perceived barriers and drivers that could contribute to the successful deployment of PSS remote gait monitoring as a healthcare service: i) At mega-level governance. Implications on privacy and security data are notable barriers missing on the speech. ii) At macro level, funding is highlighted as main barrier. The cost and lack of health system subsidies may render initiatives unsustainable, as emphasised by the interviewees. iii) At meso level, useable data is recognised as a driver. The data collection process can align with diverse interests to create value and business opportunities for the ecosystem actors, enhance care, attract stakeholders, such as insurers and pharma, and form partnerships. iv) At micro-level processes, we find two potential barriers: wearable device and app usability (comfort, navigation, efficiency) and organisational/behavioural aspects (training, digital affinity, skills), which are crucial for value creation in innovation ecosystems among patients and healthcare professionals. Finally, we find an interesting gap in the literature and interviews. Stakeholders' limited awareness of technological demands, especially from information technologies, for a successful long-term service, can be consider two key barriers for PSS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The importance of incorporating patient and medical professional perspectives in medical research is increasingly recognized. However, formal platforms for these voices are limited. OBJECTIVE To address this gap, this study proposes a novel manuscript type, the Personal Scoping Review, within the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Personal Scoping Reviews utilize a qualitative design with semi-structured interviews to gather patient and professional perspectives. This approach offers flexibility and depth, allowing authors to explore diverse insights. The reviews focus on care, education and research agendas related to the topic, using the voices of individuals as primary evidence. RESULTS & CONCLUSION Personal Scoping Reviews highlight concerns in patient care, educational needs and research gaps, offering a comprehensive view. By integrating diverse perspectives, these reviews provide valuable insights for improving medical research and practice. They facilitate the formulation of agendas to address key issues in care, education and research. By amplifying individual perspectives, these reviews aim to enhance the relevance and impact of research, ultimately benefiting patients and healthcare providers alike.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Multiple elements in the clinical learning environment have been found to influence medical students' learning experiences. A rich area of research, many factors are already known to influence students' experiences of learning which go on to impact later training choices. However, there is a knowledge gap specifically related to undergraduate medical students' experiences of surgical placement. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of medical students in their surgery rotation(s). DESIGN A phenomenological study using semistructured interviews was conducted. Transcribed interview recordings were thematically analyzed using an iterative approach. SETTING Participants were studying in a large medical school in the north of England. PARTICIPANTS Fitting with the method, 6 undergraduate medical students, with at least 1 surgery placement took part in the study. RESULTS Participants described issues including knowing the details of clinical opportunities, the clinical environment, and the portfolio; having a sense of involvement and previous surgical experiences; teaching and assessments; observation; and interactions. These experiences were also found to influence later career aspirations. CONCLUSIONS The findings suggest that undergraduate surgical learning experiences can be influenced by various themes: knowing the details of progression, the clinical environment, having a sense of involvement and previous experiences, constructive alignment of teaching and assessment, and professional identity formation. Future studies can explore methods such as personalized learning outcomes to enhance the overall learning experience of medical students.

Abstract
Delay in treatment seeking is recognized as a major contributor for Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) mortality in Indonesia. Despite the significance of timely treatment, decline in admission and delay in presentation of patients with ACS were consistently reported during the COVID-19 pandemic. These suggested that treatment seeking performance of patients during the pandemic might be different from the previous period. This qualitative study aimed to explore treatment seeking behaviour, barriers in seeking medical treatment, and experiences of patients with ACS in Yogyakarta, Indonesia during COVID-19 pandemic. In depth-interviews were carried out with 30 patients, who were hospitalized with ACS at one of the three selected hospitals in Yogyakarta during the pandemic period. Thematic analysis was performed to create vital explanations for treatment seeking practices of patients with ACS during pandemic. Three significant themes were identified: treatment seeking decisions, barriers in seeking medical treatment during COVID-19, and experiencing both good and bad impression from entering and staying in the hospital. The intensity of ACS symptoms and fear of COVID-19 infection dominated the delay in seeking medical treatment. Strict safety measures, religious belief, and fear of ACS helped patients overcome barriers and seek medical treatment during pandemic. ACS patients also had convenient medical care during the pandemic and believed medical staff would provide excellent care to them. However, visit restriction policy could cause psychological discomfort. Increase awareness of ACS symptoms and the risk of delays ACS treatment are essential to support patients' decisions to seek medical helps in a timely manner at any situations including pandemic. Interventions aim at alleviating psychological distress should also be designed and implemented to improve treatment experiences of ACS patients, who sought medical treatment during the pandemic crisis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Qualitative research methods are based on the analysis of words rather than numbers; they encourage self-reflection on the investigator's part; they are attuned to social interaction and nuance; and they incorporate their subjects' thoughts and feelings as primary sources. Despite appearing well suited for research in child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP), qualitative methods have had relatively minor uptake in the discipline. We conducted a qualitative study of CAPs involved in qualitative research to learn about these investigators' lived experiences, and to identify modifiable factors to promote qualitative methods within the field of youth mental health. METHODS We conducted individual, semi-structured 1-h long interviews through Zoom. Using purposive sample, we selected 23 participants drawn from the US (n = 12) and from France (n = 11), and equally divided in each country across seniority level. All participants were current or aspiring CAPs and had published at least one peer-reviewed qualitative article. Ten participants were women (44%). We recorded all interviews digitally and transcribed them for analysis. We coded the transcripts according to the principles of thematic analysis and approached data analysis, interpretation, and conceptualization informed by an interpersonal phenomenological analysis (IPA) framework. RESULTS Through iterative thematic analysis we developed a conceptual model consisting of three domains: (1) Becoming a qualitativist: embracing a different way of knowing (in turn divided into the three themes of priming factors/personal fit; discovering qualitative research; and transitioning in); (2) Being a qualitativist: immersing oneself in a different kind of research (in turn divided into quality: doing qualitative research well; and community: mentors, mentees, and teams); and (3) Nurturing: toward a higher quality future in CAP (in turn divided into current state of qualitative methods in CAP; and advocating for qualitative methods in CAP). For each domain, we go on to propose specific strategies to enhance entry into qualitative careers and research in CAP: (1) Becoming: personalizing the investigator's research focus; balancing inward and outward views; and leveraging practical advantages; (2) Being: seeking epistemological flexibility; moving beyond bibliometrics; and the potential and risks of mixing methods; and (3) Nurturing: invigorating a quality pipeline; and building communities. CONCLUSIONS We have identified factors that can support or impede entry into qualitative research among CAPs. Based on these modifiable findings, we propose possible solutions to enhance entry into qualitative methods in CAP (pathways), and to foster longer-term commitment to this type of research (identity).

Abstract
Traditional medicinal knowledge and healing practices of indigenous spiritual healers play important roles in health care, and contribute towards achieving Universal Health Care. Traditional spiritual healers (TSHs) are grouped into three categories. One category of Baganda TSHs, Balubaale, engage ancestral spirits during health management. Balubaale are socially significant but not legally accepted. Their initiation and training practices have not been documented in Uganda. The study purpose was to understand and establish the training of traditional spiritual healers. Twelve (10M, 2F); practicing TSHs in Central Uganda were purposively selected and recruited between 15th July 2019 and 29th April 2020, and were prospectively interacted with for 24 months. Transcribed data was coded and thematically analyzed using ATLAS ti. 22 computer software and presented based on an inductive approach. Findings show key areas of TSHs training include connecting with ancestral spirits and the spiritual powers of non-materials and materials such as living and non-living things through rituals. Spiritual healers train in diagnosis and health management based on ancestral spirits and they finally pass out in a communal ceremony witnessed by family and community members. We conclude that TSHs undergo training and are supervised and supported by experienced spiritualists, family and the community. We recommend similar studies among other ethnic groups to contextualize the process of becoming a TSH, compare and harmonize findings to facilitate inter-medical systems communication and policy considerations.

Abstract
Background Infertility affects one in six couples globally and is compounded by stigma and violence, particularly for women, in Jordan's culture. While existing research has illuminated societal pressures faced by infertile women, there is, yet no comprehensive understanding of the violence they encounter in their daily lives. Objective This Interpretative Phenomenological study seeks to unravel the experiences of infertile women regarding societal violence in Jordan. By focusing on different types of community violence - physical, psychological, and emotional - The study aims to provide nuanced insights into the challenges these women confront. It also endeavors to identify contributing factors, including societal attitudes, cultural beliefs, and individual encounters, while informing policy and practice to mitigate this issue. Methods Employing a qualitative approach, this study conducted semi-structured interviews with purposively sampled infertile women. Thematic analysis was utilized to uncover recurring patterns and themes, facilitating a comprehensive exploration of their experiences. Results Five main themes were identified: How the surrounding people view me as an infertile woman; I am suffocated by their questions; they interfere in the smallest details; I got burned and turned to ashes, and I have no right to complain; The problem of childbearing and the treatment plan is a matter for me and my husband only; and who supports me and what do I want from those around me? Implications This study's implications are significant for policy and practice. By foregrounding the prevalent violence faced by infertile women, it underscores the urgency of interventions. Raising awareness, providing education, and extending support can counteract societal stigma and violence. Creating a more compassionate societal fabric can ensure a safer, more inclusive environment for these women.

Abstract
HPV vaccination rates remain below target levels among adolescents in the United States, which is particularly concerning in safety-net populations with persistent disparities in HPV-associated cancer burden. Perspectives on evidence-based strategies (EBS) for HPV vaccination among key implementation participants, internal and external to clinics, can provide a better understanding of why these disparities persist. We conducted virtual interviews and focus groups, guided by the Practice Change Model, with clinic members (providers, clinic leaders, and clinic staff) and community members (advocates, parents, policy-level, and payers) in Los Angeles and New Jersey to understand common and divergent perspectives on and experiences with HPV vaccination in safety-net primary care settings. Fifty-eight interviews and seven focus groups were conducted (n = 65 total). Clinic members (clinic leaders n = 7, providers n = 12, and clinic staff n = 6) revealed conflicting HPV vaccine messaging, lack of shared motivation to reduce missed opportunities and improve workflows, and non-operability between clinic electronic health records and state immunization registries created barriers for implementing effective strategies. Community members (advocates n = 8, policy n = 11, payers n = 8, and parents n = 13) described lack of HPV vaccine prioritization among payers, a reliance on advocates to lead national agenda setting and facilitate local implementation, and opportunities to support and engage schools in HPV vaccine messaging and adolescents in HPV vaccine decision-making. Participants indicated the COVID-19 pandemic complicated prioritization of HPV vaccination but also created opportunities for change. These findings highlight design and selection criteria for identifying and implementing EBS (changing the intervention itself, or practice-level resources versus external motivators) that bring internal and external clinic partners together for targeted approaches that account for local needs in improving HPV vaccine uptake within safety-net settings.

Abstract
PURPOSE Central venous access devices play a crucial role in healthcare settings. However, there is concern regarding the high incidence of blockages occurring before the completion of treatments and existing guidelines for occlusion management are not consistently followed. To explore the decision-making and problem-solving process of occlusion management and identify enablers and barriers to implementing evidence for occlusion management in pediatric cancer care. METHODS A qualitative design with individual semi-structured interviews. Participants were selected by purposeful sampling from a tertiary-referral pediatric facility, and semi-structured interviews were conducted. RESULTS A total of 13 clinicians and 5 parents were interviewed. The thematic analysis revealed four main decision-making/problem-solving themes: 1) clinical reasoning and judgement for central venous access devices occlusion, 2) capability in central venous access devices occlusion management, 3) colleague collaboration in the escalation process and 4) lack of adequate support to manage the occlusion. This study identified positive and negative influences on the problem-solving process, including clinicians' psychological capabilities, social and physical resources, and beliefs about consequences. CONCLUSION This study found that clinicians in pediatric cancer care were able to manage central venous access device occlusions using clinical reasoning and judgment skills, which may conflict with evidence-based practices. The study confirmed the importance of a team approach and prior experience in managing central venous access devices in pediatric oncology settings and identified potential conflicts between clinician decisions based on the patient's current and anticipated conditions and implementation of evidence-based practice. Improving documentation and providing visual aids could benefit clinicians' problem-solving processes.

Abstract
AIM To increase understanding regarding the experiences and values of young adults with cerebral palsy (CP), and their caregivers, regarding pediatric rehabilitation-related care, including perceived barriers and potential facilitators to transition to adult care. METHOD This was a qualitative descriptive study that used 20 semi-structured interviews (13 caregivers and seven patient-caregiver dyads). RESULTS We identified four major themes: (1) the value and security of long-term relationships; (2) feeling 'rudderless' navigating the logistics of transition; (3) differences in pediatric versus adult models of care; and (4) perceived lack of provider expertise and comfort in adult care settings. Young adults with CP who had not yet transitioned to adult rehabilitation care and their caregivers placed high value on provider relationships and expertise, advanced planning, communication, and coordination of care. INTERPRETATION Identified barriers and potential facilitators to the transition to adult rehabilitation care reflected the uncertainty that accompanies leaving an established healthcare relationship. Challenges related to the logistics of this transition, differences in models of care, and perceived lack of provider comfort and expertise in adult care settings were also noted. Our findings could be used to develop and study patient-centered and family-centered transition processes for individuals with CP to promote age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate lifespan care.

Abstract
Background and purpose Physical activity (PA) is often reduced in people with MS (pwMS), even when disability is low. Understanding the perspectives of pwMS on interventions aiming to improve PA is important to inform the development of such services. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of pwMS participating in an outdoor, high-intensity and balance exercise group intervention. Methods This qualitative study was nested within an RCT exploring a novel intervention integrating sensorimotor exercises with high-intensity intervals of running/walking. Individual, in-depth interviews with the intervention group (n = 15; 12 women, 3 men; age 38-66; EDSS score 0-3.5) were conducted postintervention (mean days = 14), analyzed using a phenomenological-inspired approach with systematic text condensation, and interpreted based on enactive theory. Results Four categories were generated: (1) Exploration of one's own physical abilities: Challenging one's own limits was perceived by all participants to improve movement performance and/or intensity level. Such bodily changes engendered strong positive feelings. Some negative consequences of high-intensity training were described, increasing a feeling of loss. (2) New insights and beliefs: Participants experienced enhanced beliefs in their own capabilities, which they integrated in activities outside the intervention. (3) An engaging environment: The group setting was perceived as supportive, and the outdoor environment was perceived as stimulating activity. (4) Professional leadership, tailoring and co-creation of enjoyment: Physiotherapist-led, individualized interactions were regarded as necessary to safely revisit prior activities, such as running. Co-creating enjoyment facilitated high-intensity training and intervention adherence. Discussion High-intensity training combined with detailed exercises in a physiotherapy outdoor group was perceived to create meaningful bodily changes and enhance PA and prospects for both PA and life. Importantly, however, some negative experiences were also reported from the high-intensity training. Enactive theory allowed for the illumination of new perspectives: the importance of embodiment for self-efficacy and of tailored physiotherapy and an outdoor-group environment for exploring one's own limits to physical capabilities. These aspects should inform future exercise interventions in pwMS with low disability.

Abstract
Introduction International organizations now actively promote and implement One Health collaborative approaches to prevent, detect, and control diseases in humans and animals, recognizing the critical importance of the veterinary and agricultural sectors. Moreover, Veterinary Services are chronically under-resourced, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Given the importance of National Veterinary Services to food security, nutrition, poverty alleviation, and global health security, strengthening veterinary capacity is a priority for the international community. The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) outlines a set of minimum competencies veterinarians need to support National Veterinary Services effectively. To improve the quality of veterinary education, Ethiopia has developed a new 2020 national curriculum that is harmonized with the WOAH competencies. Methods A mixed methods needs assessment was conducted to identify barriers and challenges that Ethiopian veterinary medicine programs have faced in implementing the new WOAH-harmonized national curriculum. Representatives from active veterinary programs granting a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree were invited to share their experiences via an online survey and follow-up focus group discussion. Results Fourteen veterinary programs, representing 93% of eligible programs nationwide, participated in the needs assessment. Quantitative analysis indicated that the most difficult topics associated with the new curriculum included Organization of Veterinary Services (Competency 3.1), Inspection and Certification Procedures (3.2), and practical applications of the regulatory framework for disease prevention and control (multiple competencies). Challenges associated with specific instructional methodologies, particularly the facilitation of off-site (private and public sector) student training, were also perceived as barriers to implementation. Focus group discussions elucidated reasons for these challenges and included limitations in faculty expertise, resource constraints (e.g., supplies, infrastructure), and access to off-site facilities for hands-on teaching. Conclusion The results of this needs assessment will be used to identify and prioritize solutions to implementation challenges, helping Ethiopian veterinary medicine programs move the new WOAH-harmonized curriculum from theory to practice. As veterinarians are integral partners in advancing One Health, strengthening the capacity of Veterinary Services can ultimately safeguard animal and human health, grow economies, and improve lives.

Abstract
This study aimed to identify professional soccer practitioners' perceptions of the application of performance analysis technology within a single academy club. Secondary aims were to understand the importance that practitioners place on monitoring technical and tactical player characteristics, current practices, and barriers to implementing wearable technology. Utilising a mixed method design, forty-four professional soccer academy practitioners (Age = 32 ± 5.8; Years of experience = 8.5 ± 6.2) completed an online survey intended to examine present trends, professional practices, and perceptions regarding the monitoring of technical and tactical metrics. Frequency and percentages of responses for individual items were calculated. Subsequently, eleven participants who were directly involved with the monitoring of players were recruited to participate in a semi-structured interview. Interview data was transcribed and analysed using a combination of deductive and inductive approaches to identify key themes. The main findings across both phases of the study were that (1) technical and tactical metrics are monitored more frequently in matches (Technical: 89%; tactical: 91%) than training (Technical: 80%; Tactical 64%), predominantly due to time constraints and staffing numbers. Accordingly, practitioners believe that it would be beneficial to have an automated way of tracking technical (79%) and tactical (71%) metrics and would consider using a foot-mounted IMU to do so (technical (68%) and tactical (57%)). (2) Monitoring technical and tactical metrics is beneficial to assist with player development and to enrich feedback provision (3) Key stake holders, coaches and players should be informed of the relevance and rationale for monitoring. (4) For successful implementation and continued uptake, the information delivered needs to be both meaningful and easy to understand. Findings suggest that although participants appreciate the need to collect technical and tactical metrics, they are keen to ensure that wearable-derived data does not replace experiential and contextual knowledge. Accordingly, practitioners need to work closely with coaches to determine the contexts in which metrics may or may not prove useful. However, as the sample comprised of participants from a single academy, further studies including more practitioners are warranted. Likewise, future research could also extend to include academy soccer players perceptions too.

Abstract
Background Welfare technological solutions such as social robots attempt to meet the growing needs of the healthcare sector. Social robots may be able to respond to the shortage of pharmaceutical personnel at community pharmacies. However, there is a lack of previous studies regarding the use of social robots for medication counselling purposes in a pharmacy setting. Objectives The objective of this qualitative study was to explore pharmacists' views on the potential role of social robots in medication counselling. Methods Pharmacists, purposively sampled based on having recent experience of counselling customers in community pharmacies in Finland, first acted as customers interacting with the social robot in a simulated setting, before taking part in a focus group where their perspectives were explored. The focus group discussions were conducted in October and November 2022. The qualitative data was transcribed and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Results The number of participants was eight in total. A main theme of how the robot may either help or harm concerning medication safety within a pharmacy setting was identified. The six sub-themes found, according to pharmacists' views on robot counselling in community pharmacies, are context, digital competence, customer integrity, interaction, pharmacists' professional role and human skills. Conclusions According to the study findings, pharmacists experience that the social robot can offer a potential complement to a human pharmacist. The robot is seen as beneficial with respect to certain customer groups and in the light of personnel shortages, and may in the future add to trust, equality, freedom of choice and multilingualism, among other things, in the customer service situation at community pharmacies, thus improving medication safety.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed a need to understand the challenges associated with wearing Personal protective Equipment (PPE). The aim in this study was to explore emergency nurses' experiences early in the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia and the impact of PPE use on their practice. METHODS An explorative descriptive qualitative study was conducted between January 2022 and April 2022. Eighteen emergency nurses and six leaders participated. Semi-structured interviews (n = 21) and one focus group were conducted. Interview transcripts were analysed using Braun and Clarke's framework. RESULTS Two major themes were identified. The first theme was: (1) The shifting ground of the COVID-19 pandemic response. Associated sub-themes were: i) What's the go with PPE today? ii) In the beginning we were scrambling for masks; iii) Emergency is the true frontline. The second theme was: (2) Physical and emotional impacts of emergency nursing work. Sub-themes were: (i) Facing the fear of exposure; (ii) By the end of the shift I am just absolutely spent; iii) Discomfort of wearing PPE impacts on compliance. CONCLUSIONS Healthcare leaders need to secure PPE supply chains and evaluate the effectiveness and side-effects of different PPE designs to minimise occupational harms associated with prolonged PPE use.

Abstract
Pelvic anatomy is considered challenging to teach and learn, partly because its complexity can make it difficult to conceptualize. Educational researchers recognize the value of a spiraling curriculum to develop clinically orientated anatomy knowledge for health professionals, but most studies have focused on the preclinical years. It is unclear how the complexities of pelvic anatomy are taught in the clinical setting by clinician educators. Understanding pelvic anatomy teaching from the perspectives of clinician educators is important because of their critical role in supporting medical students to become knowledgeable, safe practitioners. This study sought to examine factors that influence clinician educators' teaching of pelvic anatomy to medical students during clinical placement. Using established qualitative research methods, this exploratory study used semi-structured interviews with 10 participants from obstetrics/gynecology (n = 4) and urology (n = 6) in Australia. Interviews were transcribed, and data were analyzed using a reflexive thematic analysis framework. Two overarching factors were identified as influencing clinician educators' teaching: (1) how they defined the scope of knowledge, and (2) pedagogical understanding. Scope of knowledge was underpinned by patient safety considerations and guided by past experience and student aspirations. Pedagogical understanding also relied on experience and encompassed multiple teaching strategies, including approaches informed by sensitivities surrounding pelvic anatomy. Multiple factors influence how clinician educators define the scope of pelvic anatomy knowledge required of medical students. Clinician educators' awareness of syllabus and teaching approaches can enable them to support students to attain threshold concepts such as three-dimensional spatial relationships and sociocultural sensitivities associated with pelvic anatomy.

Abstract
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public health problem contributing to multiple morbidities. Immigrant women who experience IPV may be disproportionately vulnerable to poor mental health outcomes, including self-harm and suicidal ideation, due to cultural experiences and contextual factors that prevent them from accessing services. While existing studies identify the risks for suicidal ideation amongst survivors of IPV, there is limited knowledge on how to tailor strategies to support immigrant women survivors of IPV who experience suicidal ideation. This study was conducted as part of the formative phase of a longitudinal research project designed to develop and evaluate a safety planning intervention for immigrant women survivors of IPV. Using qualitative in-depth interviews, we explored the perspectives of immigrant women survivors of IPV (n = 46) from various countries of origin, ages, and educational backgrounds on effective strategies for supporting immigrant women who disclose suicidal ideation. Study participants discussed various strategies for supporting survivors including building trust, providing encouragement, strengthening social support networks, and reminding survivors of parental responsibilities. Participants also pointed to the importance of the following services: domestic violence support, faith-based health resources, supportive immigration programs, mental health support, and emergency and medical treatment. These findings are informative for researchers and practitioners who work with immigrant women survivors of IPV, and they can be used to develop appropriate safety protocols and support strategies for survivors who are experiencing or have previously experienced suicidal ideation to mitigate the risk of self-harm.

Abstract
This study examined the relationship between motivation, performance accomplishment, and persistence as a mediator among medical students. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through a two-stage sequential design to investigate the hypothesised model. A sample of 645 medical undergraduates participated in the quantitative stage, responding to an electronically structured questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling were utilised to analyse the data and assess the fit of the conceptual model. In the qualitative stage, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposeful sample of twelve medical students, and thematic analysis was employed to explore the qualitative findings. The results indicated a well-fitting model, with significant positive relationships observed among motivation, persistence, and performance accomplishment. Notably, including persistence as a mediator reinforced the relationship between motivation and performance achievement. The qualitative data supported and further emphasised the importance of persistence in the medical student population. The findings have practical implications for medical students, educators, and universities, highlighting the significance of promoting and enhancing learners' persistence. Suggestions for future research include developing additional statistical models, conducting experimental studies, and undertaking longitudinal investigations. By expanding the understanding of the relationships between motivation, persistence, and performance accomplishment, future studies can contribute to developing effective interventions and strategies to support medical students in their educational journey.

Abstract
Introduction While health advocacy is a key component of many competency frameworks, mounting evidence suggests that learners do not see it as core to their learning and future practice. When learners do advocate for their patients, they characterize this work as 'going above and beyond' for a select few patients. When they think about advocacy in this way, learners choose who deserves their efforts. For educators and policymakers to support learners in making these decisions thoughtfully and ethically, we must first understand how they are currently thinking about patient deservingness. Methods We conducted qualitative interviews with 29 undergraduate and postgraduate medical learners, across multiple sites and disciplines, to discuss their experiences of and decision-making about health advocacy. We then carried out a thematic analysis to understand how learners decided when and for whom to advocate. Stemming from initial inductive coding, we then developed a deductive coding framework, based in existing theory conceptualizing 'deservingness.' Results Learners saw their patients as deserving of advocacy if they believed that the patient: was not responsible for their condition, was more in need of support than others, had a positive attitude, was working to improve their health, and shared similarities to the learner. Learners noted the tensions inherent in, and discomfort with, their own thinking about patient deservingness. Discussion Learners' decisions about advocacy deservingness are rooted in their preconceptions about the patient. Explicit curriculum and conversations about advocacy decisions are needed to support learners in making advocacy decisions equitably.

Abstract
Background Organisational and individual barriers often prevent university students from seeking mental health support. Digital technologies are recognised as effective in managing psychological distress and as a source of health-related information, thus representing useful options to address mental health needs in terms of accessibility and cost-effectiveness. However, university students' experiences and perspectives towards such interventions are little known. Objectives We thus aimed to expand the existing base of scientific knowledge, focusing on this special population. Methods Data were from the qualitative component of "the CAMPUS study", longitudinally assessing the mental health of students at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy) and the University of Surrey (UK). We conducted in-depth interviews and thematically analysed the transcripts using the framework approach. Results An explanatory model was derived from five themes identified across 33 interviews (15 for Italy, 18 for the UK). Students perceived that social media, apps, and podcasts could deliver relevant mental health content, ranging from primary to tertiary prevention. Wide availability and anonymity were perceived as advantages that make tools suitable for preventive interventions, to reduce mental health stigma, and as an extension of standard treatment. These goals can be hindered by disadvantages, namely lower efficacy compared to face-to-face contact, lack of personalisation, and problematic engagement. Individual and cultural specificities might influence awareness and perspectives on the use of digital technologies for mental health support. Conclusion Although considering some specific features, digital tools could be a useful instrument to support the mental health needs of students. Since personal contact remains crucial, digital tools should be integrated with face-to-face interventions through a multi-modal approach.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To review patient-report/caregiver-report measures of rehabilitation service use following acquired brain injury (ABI). DATA SOURCES Medline, APA PsycINFO, Embase and CINAHL were searched on November 2021 and November 2022. Authors were contacted if measures were not included in manuscripts/appendices. STUDY SELECTION Included articles were empirical research or a research protocol, available in English and described measures of patient report/caregiver report of rehabilitation service use post-ABI via quantitative or qualitative methods. Two reviewers independently screened 5290 records using DistillerSR. Discrepancies were resolved by team adjudication. DATA EXTRACTION Data extraction was piloted with high levels of agreement (k=.94). Data were extracted by a single member with team meetings to seek guidance as needed. Data included administration characteristics (reporter, mode of administration, recall period), psychometric evidence and dimensions assessed (types of services, setting, frequency, duration, intensity, qualitative aspects). DATA SYNTHESIS One hundred and fifty-two measures were identified from 85 quantitative, 56 qualitative and 3 psychometric studies. Psychometric properties were reported for four measures, all of which focused on satisfaction. Most measures inquired about the type of rehabilitation services used, with more than half assessing functional (eg, physical therapy) and behavioural health rehabilitation services, but fewer than half assessing community and academic reintegration (eg, special education, vocational rehabilitation) or cognitive (eg, neuropsychology) services. Fewer than half assessed qualitative aspects (eg, satisfaction). Recall periods ranged from 1 month to 'since the ABI event' or focused on current use. Of measures that could be accessed (n=71), many included a limited checklist of types of services used. Very few measures assessed setting, frequency, intensity or duration. CONCLUSIONS Despite widespread interest, the vast majority of measures have not been validated and are limited in scope. Use of gold-standard psychometric methods to develop and validate a comprehensive patient-report/caregiver-report measure of rehabilitation service use would have wide-ranging implications for improving rehabilitation research in ABI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nursing leadership teams at the point of care (POC), consisting of both formal and informal leaders, are regularly called upon to support the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs) in hospital units. However, current conceptualizations of effective leadership for successful implementation typically focus on the behaviors of individual leaders in managerial roles. Little is known about how multiple nursing leaders in formal and informal roles share implementation leadership (IL), representing an important knowledge gap. OBJECTIVE This study aims to explore shared IL among formal and informal nursing leaders in inpatient hospital units. The central research question is as follows: How is IL shared among members of POC nursing leadership teams on inpatient hospital units? The subquestions are as follows: (1) What IL behaviors are enacted and shared by formal and informal leaders? (2) What social processes enable shared IL by formal and informal leaders? and (3) What factors influence shared IL in nursing leadership teams? METHODS We will use a collective case study approach to describe and generate an in-depth understanding of shared IL in nursing. We will select nursing leadership teams on 2 inpatient hospital units that have successfully implemented an EBP as instrumental cases. We will construct data through focus groups and individual interviews with key informants (leaders, unit staff, and senior nurse leaders), review of organizational documents, and researcher-generated field notes. We have developed a conceptual framework of shared IL to guide data analysis, which describes effective IL behaviors, formal and informal nursing leaders' roles at the POC, and social processes generating shared leadership and influencing contextual factors. We will use the Framework Method to systematically generate data matrices from deductive and inductive thematic analysis of each case. We will then generate assertions about shared IL following a cross-case analysis. RESULTS The study protocol received research ethics approval (2022-8408) on February 24, 2022. Data collection began in June 2022, and we have recruited 2 inpatient hospital units and 25 participants. Data collection was completed in December 2023, and data analysis is ongoing. We anticipate findings to be published in a peer-reviewed journal by late 2024. CONCLUSIONS The anticipated results will shed light on how multiple and diverse members of the POC nursing leadership team enact and share IL. This study addresses calls to advance knowledge in promoting effective implementation of EBPs to ensure high-quality health care delivery by further developing the concept of shared IL in a nursing context. We will identify strategies to strengthen shared IL in nursing leadership teams at the POC, informing future intervention studies. Abstract
Background Contemporary guidelines recommend extended-duration anticoagulation among patients with a first unprovoked venous thromboembolism (VTE). Little is known about whether this recommendation aligns with patient values after a bleeding complication. Objectives To explore the experiences, values, and decisional needs of patients with unprovoked VTE related to extended-duration treatment after an anticoagulant-associated bleed. Methods In this descriptive, qualitative study, face to face online semistructured interviews were conducted with patients with unprovoked VTE who had experienced bleeding and continued anticoagulant treatment in one academic hospital in Canada. Data were analyzed using directed content analysis to identify themes. Themes were mapped onto the Ottawa Decisional Support Framework to identify decisional needs. Results Between September and December 2021, 14 patients were interviewed (age 41-69 years; 9 females). Many patients were not aware of the option to stop anticoagulation and had limited understanding of the decision about treatment duration. Despite the negative quality-of-life impact of clinically relevant bleeding during VTE treatment, the majority continued anticoagulation due to emotional trauma of VTE diagnosis, a perception that bleeding would be more manageable than VTE recurrence, a desire to maintain a connection to subspecialty care or non-VTE related benefits (eg, cancer diagnosis, protection from COVID-19). Patients' decisional needs included lack of choice awareness, inadequate support for participation, lack of personalized risk stratification, and inadequate information on monitoring and managing heavy menstrual bleeding. Conclusion Despite the impact of anticoagulant-associated bleeding on quality of life, patients preferred continuing with anticoagulation for reasons extending beyond secondary VTE prevention. Effective decision-support interventions are needed to address unmet decisional needs.

Abstract
Dairy farms have become more reliant on technology. The overall aim of this study was to better understand how dairy farmers view technology and its effects on animal care, including their views on the prospect of integrating gene-editing technology in the future. Virtual-semistructured interviews were conducted with dairy farmers (n = 11) from British Columbia and Alberta. To facilitate discussion, the participants were asked to develop and discuss a timeline describing when and why various technologies were adopted on their farm. Although farmers defined technology broadly and affecting multiple aspects of farm management, this paper focuses on their views regarding how technology can affect animal care. Following thematic analysis of the data, the following 3 themes emerged: (1) the changing role of the farmer (including intergenerational considerations and learning new technology), (2) the effect of technology on the cow and her relationship with the farmer and, (3) technology as the future of the farm. The discussions also highlight the concerns that some farmers have regarding challenges associated with reduced human-animal interactions and effective use of the large amounts of data that are collected through technology. We also specifically asked the participants their views about gene editing as a potential future technology. Most of the participants did not specifically address their views on gene editing, but they spoke about the effect on genetic technologies more generally, often making references to genomic testing. However, some questioned how this technology may affect farmers more generally and spoke about how it could affect human-animal relationships. These results illustrate differences among farmers in the way they view technology and how this can affect the dairy cattle they care for.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Current training on managing an obstetric difficult airway crisis is likely inadequate, as real-life opportunities to practice are rare. Frequent simulation training sessions could be helpful but are resource intensive. Virtual reality (VR) simulation training may be a potential tool to complement existing simulation curricula. METHODS In this pilot qualitative study, a VR simulation scenario of an obstetric airway crisis was designed to test the decision-making of novice learners rotating through obstetric anesthesia training. Individual interviews were conducted pre-VR to assess learning needs and post-VR to assess perspectives on utilizing the VR teaching tool. The interviews were transcribed and thematically analyzed. RESULTS Twenty-one residents were recruited and participated in the study. Analysis of pre-VR interviews identified three major themes, including gaps in the current curriculum, lack of confidence in managing obstetric difficult airway crises, and recognition that simulation is resource intensive. Post-VR interview themes revealed that VR could be helpful in learning decision-making under stress. Suggested improvements included better video and audio quality, and adding haptic feedback and potential multiplayer features in the future. CONCLUSION We identified the advantages of VR simulation and its potential as an intervention to address gaps in our curriculum. Areas of improvement were identified for more effective future implementation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION While effective policies exist to reduce alcohol-related harm, political will to enact them is low in many jurisdictions. We aimed to identify key barriers and strategies for strengthening political priority for alcohol policy reform. METHODS A framework synthesis was conducted, incorporating relevant theory, key informant interviews (n = 37) and a scoping review. Thematic analysis informed the development of a framework for understanding and influencing political priority for alcohol policy. RESULTS Twelve barriers and 14 strategies were identified at multiple levels (global, national and local). Major barriers included neoliberal or free trade ideology, the globalised alcohol industry, limited advocate capacity and the normalisation of alcohol harms. Strategies fell into two categories: sector-specific and system change initiatives. Sector-specific strategies primarily focus on influencing policymakers and mobilising civil society. Examples include developing a clear, unified solution, coalition building and effective framing. System change initiatives target structural change to reduce the power imbalance between industry and civil society, such as restricting industry involvement in policymaking and securing sustainable funding for advocacy. A key example is establishing an international treaty, similar to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, to support domestic policymaking. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS Our findings provide a framework for understanding and advancing political priority for alcohol policy. The framework highlights that progress can be achieved at various levels and through diverse groups of actors. The importance of upstream drivers of policymaking was a key finding, presenting challenges for time-poor advocates, but offering potential facilitation through effective global leadership.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Continuous exercising after a physiotherapy intervention for low back pain (LBP) is known to be crucial, but sustaining new habits may be challenging. AIM To describe patients' pre- and post-surgery experiences after a pre-surgery physiotherapy intervention, and their thoughts about future exercise and self-management. METHODS Individual semi-structured interviews at two time-points were analysed with content analysis. Patients randomised to pre-surgery physiotherapy in an RCT evaluating the intervention, who had participated in ≥12 sessions, were invited. Eighteen patients were interviewed 0-8 months after pre-surgery physiotherapy, and sixteen of those completed a second interview 3-14 months later. RESULTS Three categories emerged: 1) "Personal experiences from pre-surgery participation", described how participation was perceived as challenging and sometimes stressful, but wellness improved. Cooperation with the physiotherapist was considered crucial and gave confidence. 2) "Attitudes to exercise", described exercise as an action of prevention and rehabilitation that demands motivation. Exercise was perceived to be good for you, physically but also improving mental health and other systems. 3) "Future physical activity - individual responsibility", described the return to former activities and potential challenges for the future. New knowledge was perceived to have changed the prerequisites for exercise and increased security in every-day physical activities. CONCLUSION Pre-surgery physiotherapy may enhance self-management through increased confidence, improved knowledge about progression, and awareness about exercise for pain relief, producing a new mindset. Challenges for continuing exercise should be addressed during the intervention. The result can inform supportive strategies for patients to continue with self-management after LBP rehabilitation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Women are at high risk of experiencing trauma, guilt, and stress when forced to separate from their companion animals when fleeing domestic violence. Where little support is available for women and pets to stay together, women may be forced to delay leaving the abusive relationship or leave the pet with the abuser. Forced separation places both women and pets at substantial risk, where pets may be used as a coercive control measure. However, little evidence exists regarding the extent to which Australian services or policies offer support in these circumstances. OBJECTIVE This research aims to increase the understanding and the impacts of forced separation between women and their pets in domestic violence situations. The research will investigate the effectiveness of service responses for both women and animals, aiming to develop a policy framework that guides service improvement with the goal of enhancing outcomes for women and pets fleeing domestic violence. METHODS This protocol paper describes the process of developing a conceptual framework of 4 studies that include a scoping review, policy analysis, focus groups, and interviews that guide the design of the qualitative research project. RESULTS A scoping review of the literature on forced separation from pets in domestic violence, natural disasters, and homelessness situations has led to the development of a conceptual framework that guided the design of the proposed study. The review also confirmed the necessity of the proposed research project in addressing the lack of Australian national frameworks and guidance available for women and pets seeking formal support in domestic violence situations. As of August 2023, supporting organizations have commenced the distribution of the research flyers. Expected data collection will be completed between August and October 2023. The results are expected to be published in June 2025. CONCLUSIONS Via a systematic process, the importance of the proposed study in improving the understanding of the impact of forced separation between women and their pets at times of domestic violence and the gaps in best supporting both women and their pets has been confirmed. A study design based on the learnings from previous studies and the focus of the current research has been finalized. The impact of the research project in developing an Australian national framework for best supporting women and their pets in crisis situations is anticipated. Abstract
BACKGROUND The transition process from being an occupational therapy student to becoming an occupational therapist has been shown to be stressful, with an increased risk of burnout and job turnover. Consequently, there is a need to gain a deeper understanding of this process in order to identify ways of making it easier. AIMS/OBJECTIVES To describe newly graduated Swedish occupational therapists' experiences of the transition from being an occupational therapy student to becoming a clinically competent occupational therapist. MATERIAL AND METHODS A qualitative study involving 15 participants was conducted using interviews to collect data and content data analysis was undertaken to capture occupational therapists' experiences of the transition process. RESULTS A theme emerged: 'Bridging the gap by seeking stability in the transition from occupational therapy student to clinically competent occupational therapist', with two sub-themes, 1) 'Facing a new reality' and 2) 'Establishing one's role', containing categories that encapsulated experiences of the transition. CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE To bridge the gap in the transition process, universities could review their curricula to identify changes to better prepare newly graduated occupational therapists for the demands of clinical practice. Employers hiring new graduates need to offer comprehensive orientation and access to mentorship for support.

Abstract
Few Black nurses occupy positions of leadership, and even fewer Black female nurses advance to careers as nurse executives. The purpose of this 2018 study was to explore the lived experience of being Black and female when becoming a nurse executive, specifically the nuances of being both a racial and gender minority. Using a hermeneutic phenomenological method, this study explored the experiences of a purposive sample of 10 Black female nurse executives through semistructured telephone interviews. van Manen's approach and Collins' Black feminist thought as the theoretical framework guided data analysis. Three themes emerged: (a) living in a constant state of readiness; (b) embracing the responsibility beyond the job description; and (c) overcoming. Participants testified of the psychological dynamics of Black womanness, and the burdens of the intersectionality of race, gender, and class discrimination, while managing the complexities and rigors of a thriving career. Discussing the results of this research will help leaders in nursing, health care, and related professions to understand further the experiences of Black female nurse executives, which will inform efforts to (a) increase minority representation in positions of nursing leadership and (b) improve health equity.
