Abstract
BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks among the most prevalent malignancies worldwide, characterized by its complex etiology and slow research progress. Diabetes, as an independent risk factor for CRC, has been widely certified. Consequently, this study centers on elucidating the intricacies of CRC cells initiation and progression within a high-glucose environment. METHODS A battery of assays was employed to assess the proliferation and metastasis of CRC cells cultured under varying glucose concentrations. Optimal glucose levels conducive to cells' proliferation and migration were identified. Western blot analyses were conducted to evaluate alterations in apoptosis, autophagy, and EMT-related proteins in CRC cells under high-glucose conditions. The expression of PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway-associated proteins was assessed using western blot. The effect of high glucose on xenograft growth was investigated in vivo by MC38 cells, and changes in inflammatory factors (IL-4, IL-13, TNF-α, IL-5, and IL-12) were measured via serum ELISA. RESULTS Our experiments demonstrated that elevated glucose concentrations promoted both the proliferation and migration of CRC cells; the most favorable glucose dose is 20 mM. Western blot analyses revealed a decrease in apoptotic proteins, such as Bim, Bax, and caspase-3 with increasing glucose levels. Concurrently, the expression of EMT-related proteins, including N-cadherin, vimentin, ZEB1, and MMP9, increased. High-glucose cultured cells exhibited elevated levels of PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway proteins. In the xenograft model, tumor cells stimulated by high glucose exhibited accelerated growth, larger tumor volumes, and heightened KI67 expression of immunohistochemistry. ELISA experiments revealed higher expression of IL-4 and IL-13 and lower expression of TNF-α and IL-5 in the serum of high-glucose-stimulated mice. CONCLUSION The most favorable dose and time for tumor cells proliferation and migration is 20 mM, 48 h. High glucose fosters CRC cell proliferation and migration while suppressing autophagy through the activation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.

Abstract
Study on the hypolipidemic effect of turmeric combined with hawthorn on C57BL/6 obese mice and its possible mechanism. C57 mice were fed with 60% high-fat diet for 8 weeks to establish an obesity model, and 4 mice were slaughtered to verify whether the modeling was successful. The successful mice were divided into model group (HFD), positive group (high fat feed group [HFD] + simvastatin group [SIM]), turmeric group (HFD + TUR), hawthorn group (HFD + HAW), and para-medicine group (HFD + para-drug group [DOU]) for 4 weeks by gavage intervention. Different intervention groups had certain lipid-lowering effects, and the para-medicine group showed significant differences (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.001) in reducing serum total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, glutamic acid transaminase (ALT), glutamic acid transaminase (AST), and increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. In the para-medicine group, the protein expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ, fatty acid synthase, platelet-reactive protein receptor 36, and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein α were significantly downregulated, and the protein expression of carnitine palmitoyl transferase1 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α protein expression (p < 0.01, p < 0.001), thus suggesting that turmeric and hawthorn are superior to turmeric and hawthorn alone in enhancing lipid metabolism-related mechanisms. Combined effects of turmeric and hawthorn improve lipid metabolism in mice, protect the liver, and improve the protein expression of liver-related genes. This study can lay the theoretical basis for the future association of medicinal food products and the development of related weight loss products.

Abstract
AIMS This study assessed diabetes (type 1 and type 2) mortality in China and globally from 1990 to 2019, predicting the next decade's trends. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data came from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database. The annual percentage change (AAPC) in age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR) for diabetes (type 1 and type 2) during 1990-2019 was calculated. A Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) model predicted diabetes (type 1 and type 2) mortality from 2020 to 2030. RESULTS In China, type 1 diabetes deaths declined from 6,005 to 4,504 cases (AAPC -2.827), while type 2 diabetes deaths rose from 64,084 to 168,388 cases (AAPC -0.763) from 1990 to 2019. Globally, type 1 diabetes deaths increased from 55,417 to 78,236 cases (AAPC 0.223), and type 2 diabetes deaths increased from 606,407 to 1,472,934 cases (AAPC 0.365). Both China and global trends showed declining type 1 diabetes ASMR. However, female type 2 diabetes ASMR in China initially increased and then decreased, while males had a rebound trend. Peak type 1 diabetes deaths were in the 40-44 age group, and type 2 diabetes peaked in those over 70. BAPC predicted declining diabetes (type 1 and type 2) mortality burden in China and globally over the next 10 years. CONCLUSIONS Type 2 diabetes mortality remained high in China and globally despite decreasing type 1 diabetes mortality over 30 years. Predictions suggest a gradual decrease in diabetes mortality over the next decade, highlighting the need for continued focus on type 2 diabetes prevention and treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The obesity paradox suggests that individuals with obesity may have a survival advantage against specific critical illnesses, including sepsis. However, whether this paradox occurs at younger ages remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether obesity could improve survival in younger adult patients with sepsis. METHODS We used clinical data sourced from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database. Patients with Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score ≥2 and suspected infection at the time of ICU admission were identified as having sepsis, following the Sepsis-3 definition. Individuals were classified into the obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m²) and non-obesity (BMI <30 kg/m²) groups. Patients aged <50 and ≥50 years were categorized as younger adult patients and older patients, respectively. RESULTS Of 73,181 patients in the MIMIC-IV ICU database, 18,120 satisfied the inclusion criteria: 2642 aged <50 years and 15,478 aged ≥50 years. The Kaplan-Meier curve showed that obesity was not associated with an improved mortality rate among younger adult patients with sepsis (log-rank test: P = 0.197), while obesity exhibited a survival benefit in older patients with sepsis (log-rank test: P < 0.001). After propensity score matching, in-hospital mortality did not differ significantly between the obesity and non-obesity groups (13.3% vs. 12.2%; P = 0.457) in the younger adult patients with sepsis. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that BMI was not an independent risk factor for in-hospital mortality in younger adult patients with sepsis (underweight: adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.72, P = 0.076; overweight: aOR 0.88, P = 0.437; obesity: aOR 0.93, P = 0.677; and severe obesity: aOR 1.22, P = 0.580, with normal weight as the reference). CONCLUSION Contrary to findings regarding older patients with sepsis, our findings suggest that the obesity paradox does not apply to younger adult patients with sepsis.

Abstract
Purpose Investigating the therapeutic efficacy of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) in low BMI (30-35 kg/m2) patients with obesity, and exploring the correlation between patients' preoperative BMI and postoperative weight loss. Methods Comparing the weight loss, remission of comorbidities, occurrence of complications, and quality of life among the different BMI patients who underwent LSG. Analyzing the relationship between BMI and percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL) by using Spearman correlation analysis and linear regression analysis. Results The %EWL at 12 months after the surgical procedure was (104.26±16.41)%, (90.36±9.98)%, and (78.30±14.64)% for patients with Class I, II, and III obesity, respectively, P<0.05. Spearman correlation coefficients between %EWL and BMI at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery were R=-0.334 (P<0.001), R=-0.389 (P<0.001), and R=-0.442 (P<0.001), R=-0.641 (P<0.001), respectively. The remission of hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidaemia did not differ significantly between groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Individuals with obesity for varying BMI can experience favorable outcomes following LSG surgery. It is advisable to consider LSG treatment for patients with Class I obesity.

Abstract
This study aimed to report the most current data on the incidence and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) associated with osteoarthritis in China from 1990 to 2019. Publicly available modelled data from Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2019 were used. The incidence and DALY, due to osteoarthritis in China, stratified by sex, trends of associated risk factors, assess the age, period, and cohort effects on the long-term trends of osteoarthritis incidence and DALY in China from 1990 to 2019. We found that the age-standardized incidence and DALY rates of osteoarthritis in China are higher than the average levels in Asia, Africa, and Oceania. In 2019, the number of cases of osteoarthritis in China was 10,681,311, an increase of 132.66% compared with 1990. the DALY of osteoarthritis in China was 4,724,885 person-years, which was 159.70% higher than that in 1990. In 2019, the incidence and DALY rates of osteoarthritis in China was 750.96/100,000,332.19/100,000. High body-mass as risk factors for osteoarthritis DALY with the population attributable proportion (PAF) increasing steadily from 1990 to 2019. The incidence and DALY rates of three types of osteoarthritis from high to low are osteoarthritis knee, osteoarthritis hand, and osteoarthritis hip. Age-period-cohort model showed that the incidence rate of osteoarthritis in China shows a trend of increasing first and then decreasing with age; concurrently, the DALY rate of osteoarthritis in China increased with age. For the period effect, we found that the period rate ratio (RR) of osteoarthritis incidence and DALY rates kept increasing in the cohort born before 2005-2009, and then, it was gradually reduced by year of birth in the cohort born after 2005-2009. As for cohort effect, the cohort RR of incidence rate of osteoarthritis almost has no change, while the cohort RR of DALY rate of osteoarthritis kept increasing from 1990 to 2019. The burden and impact of osteoarthritis in China are substantial and are increasing. Adopting suitable control and preventive community measures to reduce modifiable risk factors is needed to reduce the current and future burden of osteoarthritis in China. Key Points • This paper analyzes the disease burden of osteoarthritis in China for the first time and discusses the influence on the disease burden of osteoarthritis from the perspectives of age, period, and cohort.

Abstract
To investigate the prospective relationship between macronutrient intake and overweight/obesity, data were collected in the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) from 1991 to 2018. Adults who participated in at least two waves of the survey and were not obese at baseline were selected as the study subjects. A total of 14,531 subjects were finally included with complete data. Overweight/obesity was defined as a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 24.0 kg/m2. The generalized estimating equation (GEE) was used to analyze the relationship between the percentage of energy intake from macronutrients and BMI and overweight/obesity. The percentages of energy intake from protein and fat showed an increasing trend (p < 0.01), and the percentage of energy intake from carbohydrate showed a decreasing trend (p < 0.01) among Chinese adults between 1991 and 2018. Adjusting for covariates, the energy intake from fat was positively correlated with BMI, while the energy intake from carbohydrates was negatively correlated with BMI. The percentage of energy intake from non-high-quality protein and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) were positively correlated with overweight/obesity. In contrast, monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and high-quality carbohydrates were negatively correlated with overweight/obesity. In short, fat, non-high-quality protein, saturated fatty acids (SFA), and PUFA were positively correlated with the risk of obesity, whereas higher carbohydrate, MUFA, and high-quality carbohydrate intake were associated with a lower risk of obesity. Obesity can be effectively prevented by appropriately adjusting the proportion of intake from the three major macronutrients.

Abstract
Background Prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are prioritized in both the Sustainable Development Goal and the Healthy China 2030 Initiatives. Efforts have been devoted to combating NCDs in China. This study examined changes in NCD trajectory. Methods We described and analyzed the trends in prevalence and control of major NCDs including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia and examined selected main behavioral risk factors in China by sex, age group, and residence using nationally representative CDC survey data. Data included were from the China Chronic Disease Risk Factor Surveillance (CCDRFS, 2013 and 2018) and China National Nutrition Survey (CNNS, 2002, 2010-2013, 2015, and 2020). Annual and relative changes in rates were used. Rural-urban ratio of related indicators was assessed. Findings NCD-attributed deaths increased from 80.0% in 2002 to 86.6% in 2012, and 88.5% in 2019, with cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes accounted for 47.1%, 24.1%, 8.8%, and 2.5% of deaths in 2019, respectively. Prevalence of obesity (7.1%-16.4%), overweight/obesity (29.9%-50.7%), hypertension (18.8%-27.5%), diabetes (2.6%-11.9%), and dyslipidemia (18.6%-35.6%) all increased from 2002 to 2018. These rates increased faster in rural areas than in urban areas. Rates of awareness, treatment and control of hypertension and diabetes increased very slowly from 2012 to 2018. Most rates were between 30 and 40% with the lowest rate of 11% for hypertension control even in 2018. The rates were worse for rural residents compared to urban residents. Furthermore, many modifiable behavioral risk factors showed little improvement and some became worse over time, including smoking, excessive alcohol use, inadequate vegetable/fruit intake, excessive red meat intake, and physical inactivity. Interpretation NCD burden in China increased during 2002-2019 despite of the intervention efforts. To reach the global and national targets, China must strengthen its actions, especially in rural areas, including improvement of NCD screening and management and reduction of behavioral risk factors. Abstract
Diets() rich in fat are a major() cause() of metabolic disease(), and nutritional() food has been widely() used() to counteract the metabolic disorders such() as obesity() and fatty() liver(). The present study investigated the effects of oleuropein-enriched extract() from Jasminum grandiflorum L. flowers (OLE-JGF) in high-fat diet() (HFD)-fed mice and oleic acid() (OA)-treated AML-12 cells. Treatment() of HFD-fed mice with 0.6% OLE-JGF for 8 weeks significantly reduced body and liver() weights, as well as attenuating lipid dysmetabolism and hepatic steatosis. OLE-JGF administration() prominently suppressed the mRNA expressions() of monocyte chemoattractant protein()-1 (MCP-1) and cluster of differentiation 68 (CD68), and it also downregulated acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and fatty() acid() synthase (FAS) as well as sterol-regulatory-element()-binding protein() (SREBP-1c) in the liver(). Meanwhile, mitochondrial DNA and uncoupling protein() 2 (UCP2) were upregulated along with the increased expression() of mitochondrial biogenic promoters including liver() kinase B1 (LKB1), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α), nuclear() factor()-erythroid-derived 2-like 2 (Nrf2), and mitochondrial transcription factor() A (Tfam), but did not change AMP-activated protein() kinase (AMPK) in liver(). The lipid droplets were decreased significantly after treatment() with 80 μM oleuropein for 24 h in OA-induced AML-12 cells. Furthermore, oleuropein significantly inhibited ACC mRNA expression() and upregulated LKB1, PGC-1α, and Tfam mRNA levels, as well as increasing the binding level of LKB1 to PGC-1α promoter in OA-induced cells. These findings indicate() that OLE-JGF reduces hepatic lipid deposition in HFD-fed mice, as well as the fact that OA-induced liver() cells may be partly() attributed to upregulation of the LKB1-PGC-1α axis, which mediates hepatic lipogenesis and mitochondrial biogenesis. Our study provides a scientific() basis() for the benefits and potential() use() of the J. grandiflorum flower as a food supplement() for the prevention() and treatment() of metabolic disease().

Abstract
Background Excessive weight gain and obesity are widely accepted as risk factors for diabetes mellitus, and the age at which obesity onsets may be related to the development of cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers. Here, we aimed to investigate associations between the onset-age of overweight/obesity and risk of developing diabetes mellitus in China. Methods 42,144 people with the normal weight range and without diabetes at baseline, were enrolled from the Kailuan cohort which began on the 1st June 2006. All participants were followed-up, biennially, until 31st December 2017. During follow-up, 11,220 participants had become overweight/obese. For each case, one normal-weight control was matched according to age ( ± 1 year) and sex. Our final analysis included 10,858 case-control pairs. An age-scaled Cox model was implemented to estimate hazard ratios (HR) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) for diabetes mellitus incidence across age-groups. Results At a median follow-up of 5.46 years, 1,403 cases of diabetes mellitus were identified. After multivariate adjustments, age-scaled Cox modelling suggested that risk gradually attenuated with every 10 year increase in age of onset of overweight/obesity. Diabetes mellitus adjusted HRs (aHRs) for new-onset overweight/obesity at <45years, 45-54 years, and 55-64 years were 1.47 (95%CI, 1.12-1.93), 1.38 (95%CI, 1.13-1.68), 1.32 (95%CI, 1.09-1.59), respectively. However, new-onset of overweight/obesity at ≥65 years did not relate to diabetes mellitus (aHR, 1.20; 95%CI, 0.92-1.57). This trend was not observed in women or the new-onset obesity subgroup but was evident in men and the new overweight onset subgroup. Conclusion Participants with early onset of excessive weight gain issues are at considerably higher risk of developing diabetes mellitus compared to those who maintain a normal weight.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many smartphone apps designed to assist individuals in managing their weight are accessible, but the assessment of app quality and features has predominantly taken place in Western countries. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of research evaluating weight management apps in China, which highlights the need for further investigation in this area. OBJECTIVE This study aims to conduct a comprehensive search for the most popular commercial Chinese smartphone apps focused on weight management and assess their quality, behavior change techniques (BCTs), and content-related features using appropriate evaluation scales. Additionally, the study sought to investigate the associations between the quality of various domains within weight management apps and the number of incorporated BCTs and app features. METHODS In April 2023, data on weight management apps from the iOS and Android app stores were downloaded from the Qimai Data platform. Subsequently, a total of 35 weight management apps were subjected to screening and analysis by 2 researchers. The features and quality of the apps were independently assessed by 6 professionals specializing in nutrition management and health behavioral change using the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS). Two registered dietitians, who had experience in app development and coding BCTs, applied the established 26-item BCT taxonomy to verify the presence of BCTs. Mean (SD) scores and their distributions were calculated for each section and item. Spearman correlations were used to assess the relationship between an app's quality and its technical features, as well as the number of incorporated BCTs. RESULTS The data set included a total of 35 apps, with 8 available in the Android Store, 10 in the Apple Store, and 17 in both. The overall quality, with a mean MARS score of 3.44 (SD 0.44), showed that functionality was the highest scoring domain (mean 4.18, SD 0.37), followed by aesthetics (mean 3.43, SD 0.42), engagement (mean 3.26, SD 0.64), and information (mean 2.91, SD 0.52), which had the lowest score. The mean number of BCTs in the analyzed apps was 9.17 (range 2-18 BCTs/app). The most common BCTs were "prompt review of behavioral goals" and "provide instruction," present in 31 apps (89%). This was followed by "prompt self-monitoring of behavior" in 30 apps (86%), "prompt specific goal setting" in 29 apps (83%), and "provide feedback on performance" in 27 apps (77%). The most prevalent features in the analyzed apps were the need for web access (35/35, 100%), monitoring/tracking (30/35, 86%), goal setting (29/35, 83%), and sending alerts (28/35, 80%). The study also revealed strong positive correlations among the number of BCTs incorporated, app quality, and app features. This suggests that apps with a higher number of BCTs tend to have better overall quality and more features. CONCLUSIONS The study found that the overall quality of weight management apps in China is moderate, with a particular weakness in the quality of information provided. The most prevalent BCTs in these apps were reviewing behavioral goals, providing guidance, self-monitoring of behavior, goal setting, and offering performance feedback. The most common features were the need for web access, monitoring and tracking, goal setting, and sending alerts. Notably, higher-quality weight management apps in China tended to incorporate more BCTs and features. These findings can be valuable for developers looking to improve weight management apps and enhance their potential to drive behavioral change in weight management.

Abstract
Background Nowadays, high fasting plasma glucose (HFPG) has been identified as the important risk factor contributing to the increased burden of diseases. But there remains a lack of research on tuberculosis (TB) mortality specifically attributable to HFPG. Thus, this study aims to explore the long-term trends in HFPG-related TB mortality in China from 1990 to 2019. Methods Data on HFPG-related TB mortality were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2019. Analyzing the data using joinpoint regression and age-period-cohort methods adjusting for age, period, and cohort allowed us to assess the trends in TB mortality due to HFPG. Results The age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs) of TB attributable to HFPG exhibited a downward trend in China from 1990 to 2019, with an average annual percentage change (AAPC) of -7.0 (95% CI, -7.5 to -6.6). Similar trends were found for male (AAPC of -6.5 [95% CI, -7.0 to -6.0]) and female (AAPC of -8.2 [95% CI, -8.5 to -7.9]), respectively. Local drifts curve with a U-shaped pattern reflected the AAPC of TB mortality due to HFPG across age groups. The greatest decline was observed in the age group of 60-64 years. The mortality rates related to HFPG first increased and then decreased with increasing age, peaking in the 55-59 age group. Our analysis of the period and cohort effects found that the rate ratios of TB mortality due to HFPG have decreased over the past three decades, more prominently in women. It is noteworthy that while both genders have seen a decline in HFPG-attributable TB mortality and risk, men have a higher risk and slightly less significant decline than women. Conclusion The present study shows that HFPG-related ASMRs and risk of TB in China decreased over the last 30 years, with similar trends observed in both men and women. In order to attain the recommended level set by the WHO, the effective strategies for glycemic control and management still needed to be implemented strictly to further decrease the burden of TB.

Abstract
This study aimed to report trends in the global burden of osteoarthritis (OA) from 1990 to 2019 and predict the trends in the following years based on Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. The study included reporting on the prevalence and incidence rates, as well as disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Additionally, the age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) and Estimated Annual Percent Change (EAPC) were analyzed along with related factors, finally, Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) analysis were utilized to predict the trends in the upcoming years. In 2019, globally, there were about 414.7 million (95%UI: 368.8 to 464.4 million) OA incident cases, with an age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) about 492.21 (95% UI:438.66 to 551.5) per 100000. And there were about 527.8 million (95% UI: 478.7 to 584.8 million) OA prevalent cases in 2019. The DALYs for OA increased to about 189.49 million (95%UI: 95.71 to 376.60 million) from 1990 to 2019 (EAPC:0.14%; 95%CI: 0.12% to 0.16%). There was a positive association between ASR and Socio-demographic index (SDI) both at the regional and national level. BAPC results showed that ASR in females would decrease but increase in males in the following years. In conclusion, the global burden of OA has risen steadily between 1990 and 2019, placing a significant strain on society. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years. To alleviate this burden, it is necessary to implement measures that target risk factors such as high body mass index.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have quantified the current burden of diseases attributable to overweight in Chile. However, no study has estimated the attributable burden of overweight in the future. Herein, we estimated the potential impact of different trajectories in the prevalence of overweight on the incidence and mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Chilean adults from 2019 to 2030. METHODS A multistate life table modelling was used to estimate the business-as-usual (BAU: if the current rate of increase in BMI persist through the next 11 years; i.e., 0.4% per year from 2003 to 2017) and three counterfactual scenarios (1: the increase rate of overweight is reduced by half; 2: maintanance of the current prevalence of overweight; 3: the prevalence of overweight is reduced by 6.7%) over a 11-year simulation period for burden of NCDs attributable to overweight in Chilean adults aged 20 to 80 years. The model inputs included nationally representative data of body mass index, national official demographic records, NCDs from the Global Burden of Disease study in 2019, and relative risks from a published meta-analysis. RESULTS If the current trends of increase in overweight are maintained in Chile, approximately, 669 thousand cases and 117 thousand deaths from NCDs will occur from 2020 to 2030. In case the increase rate of overweight is reduced by half during this period, around 7 thousand cases and 1.4 thousand deaths from NCDs would be prevented, while achieving no increase in the prevalence of overweight would avert 10 thousand cases and 2 thousand deaths. In the optimistic scenario of reducing the prevalence of overweight by 6.7% until 2030, approximately 25 thousand cases and 5 thousand deaths from NCDs would be prevented. CONCLUSION We estimated that the number of NCDs cases and deaths that could be avoided by decreasing the prevalence of overweight in Chilean adults. Preventive programs aimed to reduce overweight may have a high impact on the future burden of NCDs in Chile.

Abstract
Obesity has been associated with a multitude of medical comorbidities, infertility, and adverse obstetric outcomes. Weight stigma and weight bias pervade not only the medical field but also education, employment, and activities of daily living. The experience of weight stigma has been shown to adversely impact not only the mental health of individuals with overweight or obesity but also worsen obesogenic behaviors, and medical comorbidities. This review frames the rise of weight stigma and weight bias within the context of the "obesity epidemic" and explores its associations with infertility and decreased access to health care and its subsequent impact on the lives of individuals. Furthermore, it explores the concepts of intrinsic and extrinsic weight stigma/bias and highlights the need for further examination and research into the impact of these factors on access to reproductive medicine and subsequent outcomes.

Abstract
Background: The underlying mechanisms of the relationship between stressful life events and obesity among Chinese workers are unclear. Objective: This study aimed to understand the processes and mechanisms involved in stressful life events, unhealthy eating behavior, and obesity among Chinese workers. Methods: From January 2018 to December 2019, a total of 15,921 government employees were included at baseline and they were followed-up until May 2021. Stressful life events were assessed using the Life Events Scale, and unhealthy eating behavior was assessed using four items. BMI was calculated as weight (kg) divided by height (m2) using physically measured data. Results: Overeating at each mealtime (OR = 2.21, 95%CI: 1.78-2.71) at baseline led to reports of higher risk of obesity at follow up. Eating before going to bed at night sometimes (OR = 1.51, 95%CI: 1.31-1.73) or often (OR = 3.04, 95%CI: 2.28-4.05) at baseline led to reports of higher risk of obesity at follow-up. Eating out sometimes (OR = 1.74, 95%CI: 1.47-2.07) or often (OR = 1.59, 95%CI: 1.07-2.36) at baseline led to reports of higher risk of obesity at follow-up. Stressful life events were not directly associated with obesity, but unhealthy eating behaviors, including overeating at each mealtime (β = 0.010, 95%CI: 0.007-0.014; β = 0.002, 95%CI: 0.001-0.004, respectively) and irregular meal timing (β = -0.011, 95%CI: -0.015--0.008; β = -0.004, 95%CI: -0.006--0.001, respectively), significantly mediated the associations between stressful life events at baseline and obesity at both baseline and follow-up. Conclusions: Unhealthy eating behaviors mediated the relationship between stressful life events and obesity. Interventions should be provided to workers who have experienced stressful life events and unhealthy eating behaviors.

Abstract
As a major public-health concern, obesity is imposing an increasing social burden around the world. The link between obesity and brain-health problems has been reported, but controversy remains. To investigate the relationship among obesity, brain-structure changes and diseases, a two-stage analysis was performed. At first, we used the Mendelian-randomization (MR) approach to identify the causal relationship between obesity and cerebral structure. Obesity-related data were retrieved from the Genetic Investigation of ANthropometric Traits (GIANT) consortium and the UK Biobank, whereas the cortical morphological data were from the Enhancing NeuroImaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis (ENIGMA) consortium. Further, we extracted region-specific expressed genes according to the Allen Human Brian Atlas (AHBA) and carried out a series of bioinformatics analyses to find the potential mechanism of obesity and diseases. In the univariable MR, a higher body mass index (BMI) or larger visceral adipose tissue (VAT) was associated with a smaller global cortical thickness (pBMI = 0.006, pVAT = 1.34 × 10-4). Regional associations were found between obesity and specific gyrus regions, mainly in the fusiform gyrus and inferior parietal gyrus. Multivariable MR results showed that a greater body fat percentage was linked to a smaller fusiform-gyrus thickness (p = 0.029) and precuneus surface area (p = 0.035). As for the gene analysis, region-related genes were enriched to several neurobiological processes, such as compound transport, neuropeptide-signaling pathway, and neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction. These genes contained a strong relationship with some neuropsychiatric diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and other disorders. Our results reveal a causal relationship between obesity and brain abnormalities and suggest a pathway from obesity to brain-structure abnormalities to neuropsychiatric diseases.

Abstract
We aimed to compare the relationship between hypertension and obesity-related anthropometric indices (waist circumference [WC], waist-height ratio, waist-hip ratio [WHR], and body mass index; unconventional: new body shape index [ABSI] and body roundness index [BRI]) to identify best predictors of new-onset hypertension. The study included 4123 adult participants (2377 women). Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were determined using a Cox regression model to estimate the risk of new-onset hypertension with respect to each obesity index. In addition, we assessed the predictive value of each obesity index for new-onset hypertension using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) after adjusting for common risk factors. During the median follow-up of 2.59 years, 818 (19.8%) new hypertension cases were diagnosed. The non-traditional obesity indices BRI and ABSI had predictive value for new-onset hypertension; however, they were not better than the traditional indexes. WHR was the best predictor of new-onset hypertension in women aged ≤ 60 and > 60 years, with HRs of 2.38 and 2.51 and AUCs of 0.793 and 0.716. However, WHR (HR 2.28, AUC = 0.759) and WC (HR 3.24, AUC = 0.788) were the best indexes for predicting new-onset hypertension in men aged ≤ 60 and > 60 years, respectively.

Abstract
ABSTRACT The prevalence of obesity has increased worldwide in recent decades. Genetic factors are now known to play a substantial role in the predisposition to obesity and may contribute up to 70% of the risk for obesity. Technological advancements during the last decades have allowed the identification of many hundreds of genetic markers associated with obesity. However, the transformation of current genetic variant-obesity associations into biological knowledge has been proven challenging. Genomics and proteomics are complementary fields, as proteomics extends functional analyses. Integrating genomic and proteomic data can help to bridge a gap in knowledge regarding genetic variant-obesity associations and to identify new drug targets for the treatment of obesity. We provide an overview of the published papers on the integrated analysis of proteomic and genomic data in obesity and summarize four mainstream strategies: overlap, colocalization, Mendelian randomization, and proteome-wide association studies. The integrated analyses identified many obesity-associated proteins, such as leptin, follistatin, and adenylate cyclase 3. Despite great progress, integrative studies focusing on obesity are still limited. There is an increased demand for large prospective cohort studies to identify and validate findings, and further apply these findings to the prevention, intervention, and treatment of obesity. In addition, we also discuss several other potential integration methods.

Abstract
The effectiveness of herbal medicine in treating diabetes has grown in recent years, but the precise mechanism by which it does so is still unclear to both medical professionals and diabetics. In traditional Chinese medicine, mulberry leaf is used to treat inflammation, colds, and antiviral illnesses. Mulberry leaves are one of the herbs with many medicinal applications, and as mulberry leaf study grows, there is mounting evidence that these leaves also have potent anti-diabetic properties. The direct role of mulberry leaf as a natural remedy in the treatment of diabetes has been proven in several studies and clinical trials. However, because mulberry leaf is a more potent remedy for diabetes, a deeper understanding of how it works is required. The bioactive compounds flavonoids, alkaloids, polysaccharides, polyphenols, volatile oils, sterols, amino acids, and a variety of inorganic trace elements and vitamins, among others, have been found to be abundant in mulberry leaves. Among these compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids, polysaccharides, and polyphenols have a stronger link to diabetes. Of course, trace minerals and vitamins also contribute to blood sugar regulation. Inhibiting alpha glucosidase activity in the intestine, regulating lipid metabolism in the body, protecting pancreatic -cells, lowering insulin resistance, accelerating glucose uptake by target tissues, and improving oxidative stress levels in the body are some of the main therapeutic properties mentioned above. These mechanisms can effectively regulate blood glucose levels. The therapeutic effects of the bioactive compounds found in mulberry leaves on diabetes mellitus and their associated molecular mechanisms are the main topics of this paper’s overview of the state of the art in mulberry leaf research for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The efficacy and safety of ertugliflozin have not been well characterized in Asian populations with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and overweight or obesity as defined by the Chinese Diabetes Society [body mass index (BMI) ≥ 24 kg/m2]. METHODS These post hoc analyses of pooled data from two randomized, double-blind, 26-week studies assessed the efficacy and safety of ertugliflozin (5 mg or 15 mg) compared with placebo in participants from Asia with T2D and baseline BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2, with inadequate glycemic control on metformin. Longitudinal analyses were used to calculate least squares (LS) mean [95% confidence interval (CI)] change from baseline in glycemic indices and body weight. The proportions of participants achieving efficacy targets and experiencing adverse events (AEs) were assessed. RESULTS The 445 participants had a mean age of 55.5 years, T2D duration 6.6 years, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) 8.1%, and BMI 27.6 kg/m2. At week 26, placebo-adjusted LS mean (95% CI) changes from baseline for ertugliflozin 5 mg and 15 mg, respectively, were - 0.78% (- 0.95% to - 0.61%) and - 0.80% (- 0.98% to - 0.63%) for HbA1c, and - 1.74 kg (- 2.29 kg to - 1.19 kg) and - 2.04 kg (- 2.60 kg to - 1.48 kg) for body weight. A greater proportion of participants receiving ertugliflozin 5 mg and 15 mg versus placebo, respectively, achieved HbA1c < 7.0% (42.1% and 46.3% vs. 13.9%), body weight reduction ≥ 5% (35.5% and 38.3% vs. 11.1%), and systolic blood pressure < 130 mmHg (42.4% and 34.5% vs. 21.7%). The proportion of participants with AEs was 52.6% (ertugliflozin 5 mg), 52.3% (ertugliflozin 15 mg), and 55.6% (placebo). CONCLUSIONS In participants from Asia with T2D inadequately controlled by metformin monotherapy, and BMI ≥24 kg/m2, ertugliflozin (5 mg or 15 mg) resulted in greater glycemic and body weight reductions compared with placebo and was generally well tolerated. Abstract
Objectives The prevalence of obesity is on the rise and is connected to numerous factors. However, the relationship between obesity and nickel has never been investigated. Our study aimed to explore the association between urinary nickel and obesity Status in adults. Methods From the 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES), 1,705 participants ≥18 years of age were enrolled. To explore further the relationship among urinary nickel, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference(WC), Weighted multivariate linear regression analyses and further subgroup analyzes were conducted. Results Urinary nickel does not correlate with BMI level but positively correlates with WC. In the subgroup analyzed according to sex, Urinary nickel has a positive correlation with BMI and WC in males but has a negative correlation in females. Secondary stratification analysis according to sex and race, Urinary nickel positively correlates with BMI in White males. It also positively correlates with WC in both White and Black males. Conclusions A correlation was found between urinary nickel levels and BMI and WC in adult males. Adult men, especially those already obese, may need to reduce nickel exposure.
