Abstract
BACKGROUND Youth e-cigarette use remains a public health concern and many youth want to quit. However, cannabis use is common among youth who use e-cigarettes, which may interfere with nicotine cessation efforts. This study aimed to investigate cannabis use among youth who vape nicotine and are motivated to quit nicotine. METHODS Connecticut youth (N=223, Mage = 17.3 [SD=1.7] years) who completed an intake for a vaping cessation study reported on their nicotine vaping, cannabis products used, reasons for use, frequency of use, and readiness to quit cannabis. Descriptives characterized population. Regressions were used to examine association of cannabis use and nicotine vaping. RESULTS Most reported cannabis use (lifetime: 92.4 %; past-month: 68.6 %). Cannabis smoking and vaping were highly prevalent (smoking: lifetime - 90.8 %, current - 63.6 %; vaping: lifetime - 90.8 %, current - 63.1 %). Most reported preferring smoking cannabis (58.7 %) over other routes of administration. Common reasons for cannabis use, were psychoactive (e.g., getting high), physical (e.g., improving sleep), and social (e.g., partying). Cannabis use frequency and preferring smoking cannabis (vs. other modes) was positively associated with more frequent nicotine vaping (ps < 0.05). Participants averaged 6.3 (of 10) on a readiness to quit cannabis scale, a moderate desire to quit. CONCLUSIONS Cannabis use across multiple routes of administration was common among youth seeking help quitting vaping nicotine. Heaviness of cannabis and nicotine use appear to be associated, raising interesting harm-reduction challenges for those seeking to quit nicotine vaping. Understanding cannabis and nicotine co-use is important for targeting treatment for use of both substances.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Young adults in the United States, including college students, have the highest prevalence of cannabis use compared with other age groups. Although cannabis vaping is increasingly prevalent during young adulthood, little is known about factors contributing to the onset of cannabis vaping during this developmental period. METHODS Participants were 3085 cannabis vaping naïve young adults aged 18-25 years (M = 20.60; SD = 1.80), initially recruited from 24 Texas colleges and participating in a multi-wave, longitudinal study. A survival analysis was conducted to determine if participants reporting elevated depressive symptoms had an increased risk of onset of cannabis vaping over six follow-up waves from fall 2015 to spring 2019 compared to their peers with lower levels of depressive symptoms. Socio-demographic characteristics, time-varying past 30 day substance use, and time-varying peer nicotine vaping were included as covariates in the model. RESULTS Twenty-five percent of participants initiated cannabis vaping during the four-year study period, with stable initiation rates from 2015 to 2017 but doubling from 2017 to 2019. Analyses, both unadjusted and adjusted for study covariates, indicated that elevated depressive symptoms were significantly associated with an increased risk of cannabis vaping initiation. CONCLUSION Findings indicate that initiation of cannabis vaping during young adulthood is common, and particularly more likely among those with greater depressive symptoms, thus underscoring the importance of prevention programs that include mental health support services tailored to young adults.

Abstract
Understanding transitions across use of different types of cannabis products and multiple cannabis products and how they intersect with nicotine use in young people can inform etiology and prevention. In this study, we examined transitions across use of combustible and noncombustible forms of cannabis and multiple types of cannabis from adolescence to young adulthood and the role of nicotine use in transitions. In a Southern California longitudinal cohort study (n = 3,298; baseline mean age = 16.1 (standard deviation, 0.4) years) with 9 semiannual survey waves (2015-2021), we used Markov multistate transition modeling to estimate short-term (2-wave) and long-term (9-wave) probabilities of transition across 5 cannabis use states: never use of any product, prior use with no past-6-month (P6M) use of any product, and P6M use of exclusively noncombustible products, exclusively combustible products, and multiple (noncombustible + combustible) products. Sizable transition probabilities from prior and exclusive P6M noncombustible or combustible cannabis use to P6M poly-cannabis-product use were observed in short-term (10.7%-38.9%) and long-term (43.4%-43.8%) analyses. P6M nicotine use increased risk of transitioning from never and prior use to exclusive P6M noncombustible and combustible cannabis use. Cannabis use in any form, even temporary use, during midadolescence may often be followed by poly-cannabis-product use. Nicotine use may amplify the probability of future cannabis use onset or recurrence.

Abstract
Introduction The popularity of cannabis vaping has increased rapidly, especially among adolescents and young adults. We posit some possible explanations and, to evaluate them, examine whether cannabis vapers differ from non-vaping cannabis users in other substance use. Methods Using nationally representative data from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study wave 5 (Dec. 2018-Nov. 2019), we assessed the association between cannabis vaping and other substance use. A total of 1,689 adolescents and 10,620 adults who reported cannabis use in the past 12 months were included in the study. We employed multivariable logistic regressions to assess the association between cannabis vaping and other substance use. Results Among past 12-month cannabis users, compared with those who do not vape cannabis, participants who vape cannabis had higher risks of using alcohol (adjusted relative risk [aRR] = 1.04, 95 % CI, 1.01-1.07), cigarettes (aRR = 1.09, 95 % CI, 1.02-1.15), cigars (aRR = 1.17, 95 % CI, 1.06-1.30), other tobacco products (aRR = 1.29, 95 % CI, 1.14-1.45), electronic nicotine products (aRR = 4.64, 95 % CI, 4.32-4.99), other illicit drugs (aRR = 1.53, 95 % CI, 1.29-1.80), and misuse of prescription drugs (aRR = 1.43, 95 % CI, 1.19-1.72). Compared to older cannabis vapers, younger cannabis vapers were at risk of using more other substances. Cannabis vaping was associated with all seven measures of substance use among young adults. Conclusions Compared to non-vaping cannabis users, cannabis vapers have higher likelihood of using other substances. Research is needed to understand why, as well as the implications of the association.

Abstract
Importance Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) were created to vape nicotine e-liquids; however, social media demonstrates increased ENDS modifications to vape cannabis. Analysis of social media content helps with understanding ENDS modifications for cannabis use, overlapping markets for ENDS and cannabis, and the need for additional regulation. Objective To analyze online videos for use, modification, and marketing of ENDS to vape cannabis. Design, Setting, and Participants In this qualitative study, 10 searches were performed on YouTube on July 14, 2022, using different combinations of relevant search terms to identify videos depicting modifications to ENDS and e-liquids to vape cannabis. The first 40 videos from each search (400 videos total, 152 without duplicates) were extracted, of which 59 included depiction or discussion of cannabis vaping content. Content analysis of videos included iterative development of codes, consensus building across team members, and reliability checks. Main Outcomes and Measures Metadata (ie, video length, number of likes, comments, and views) were extracted for included videos. Coding was performed for uploader type, modifications to ENDS and e-liquids, devices used, cannabis products vaped, age restriction, purchasing links, health claims, and discussion of warning messages and cannabis regulations. Results Of the 59 videos analyzed, 34 (58%) included tetrahydrocannabinol; 33 (56%), cannabidiol; and 8 (14%), both. A total of 21 videos (36%) were age-restricted, while 25 (42%) included purchasing links for cannabis products, 20 (34%) for ENDS, and 7 (12%) for nicotine e-liquids. Twenty-six videos (44%) made claims about health benefits of vaping cannabis. Forty-one videos (69%) demonstrated vaping manufacturer-made cannabis products (eg, cannabis concentrates) with no modifications needed. Eighteen videos (31%) depicted modifications to e-liquids or ENDS for cannabis use. The most frequent modification was mixing e-liquids with cannabis products to be compatible with ENDS. The most frequently reported reason for modifications was to vape cannabis in public by using the same devices used for nicotine. Conclusions and Relevance This qualitative study of online videos found high frequencies of statements about health benefits from vaping cannabis, frequent purchasing links, and inadequate age restrictions. Exposure to such content on social media platforms may increase risk of cannabis vaping among youth. Use of the same devices for multiple substances may also enable dual use and complicate the US Food and Drug Administration's regulation of ENDS.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Youth in the United States are using electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) at a high rate. Modifications to ENDS by youth can introduce additional health hazards which have not been previously considered. To better understand these risks, we need more information on what these modifications are, the motivations behind them, and the sources of information on modifications. AIMS AND METHODS Utilizing a trained moderator, in 2020-2021, we conducted one-on-one interviews with 19 youth ENDS users aged 16-17 living in the United States and analyzed their responses using a qualitative description approach. RESULTS The most prominent modification was to the e-liquid; youth indicated they mixed e-juices to create new flavors and added substances not intended for vaping, including illicit drugs such as cannabis and cocaine. Few youths from our sample were interested in achieving a specific nicotine level to vape, and modifications to the battery, coil and wick were less frequently mentioned. Some of these modifications were motivated by a desire to achieve specific experiences with their device. At other times, modifications were made due to necessity because of limited access to ENDS devices and supplies. YouTube and peers were the main sources of information about modifying. CONCLUSIONS Youth are making modifications that are both intended and unintended by the manufacturer. Adding illicit drugs and other substances not made for vaping is of particular concern. Understanding how youth modify ENDS and how that changes their use is important to guide regulatory policy intended to reduce harm to youth from ENDS use. IMPLICATIONS Youth from our study indicated that they make modifications to the ENDS devices, specifically to the e-liquid. These modifications are both intended by the manufacturer, such as changing the e-liquid and replacing coils, and unintended, such as adding substances not meant for vaping. Future policies aimed at reducing youth ENDS use should consider mandating better safeguards against modifications that appeal to youth.

Abstract
Background: Little is known about daily vaping of different substances, particularly cannabis. Aim: To explore daily vaping of cannabis and nicotine products in a sample of people who use drugs in New Zealand. Method: The online New Zealand Drug Trends convenience survey (N = 23,500) was promoted to those aged 16+ via a targeted Facebook™ campaign, with 9,042 reporting vaping in the past six months. Multivariate logistic regression models were fitted to identify predictors of daily vaping of: (i) nicotine e-liquids, (ii) no-nicotine e-liquids, (iii) cannabis e-liquids/oils, (iv)cannabis herb. Results: Forty-two percent of past 6-month vapers used a vaporizing device "daily or near daily" (n = 3,508). Nicotine was most common substance used by daily vapers (96%), followed by dry herb cannabis (12%), no-nicotine e-liquids (10%) and cannabis e-liquid (6%). Daily vaping of no-nicotine e-liquids was associated with abstinence from tobacco use. Frequency of cannabis use was negatively correlated with daily vaping of nicotine liquids and positively correlated with daily vaping of no-nicotine and herbal cannabis. Younger age strongly predicted daily vaping of nicotine and no-nicotine liquids, but the reverse association was observed for daily vaping of herbal cannabis. Māori were less likely to daily vape cannabis herb than NZ Europeans. Daily vaping of both cannabis e-liquid and cannabis herb was associated with medicinal cannabis use. Conclusion: Daily vapers of nicotine and cannabis differed by several characteristics. Younger age group is at risk of daily vaping nicotine and non-nicotine, while herbal cannabis vaping is associated with older and medicinal use, suggesting a need for a nuanced vape policy response.

Abstract
Concurrent use of e-cigarettes and cannabis among adolescents and emerging adults is a growing public health concern. More research is needed describing cannabis use among adolescents and emerging adults who vape. The objective of this study was to characterize cannabis use among adolescents and emerging adults (age 14-20) who reported e-cigarette ever-use, particularly their use of blunts and liquid cannabis vape (LCV) products. Using cross-sectional data from a national online survey, we describe their patterns of cannabis use, detail their use of flavored cannabis and tobacco products, and estimate associations of demographic factors and other current substance use behaviors with levels of blunt and LCV use. Of the 2253 respondents in the sample, 1379 (61 %) reported some form of cannabis use in the past 30 days, among whom 80 % used flavored cannabis (including edibles). Significant associations with current cannabis use were observed on several demographic measures, with current cannabis blunt use more frequent among participants not in school, non-Hispanic Blacks, multiracial respondents, and those whose incomes do not meet their expenses. Other than income, demographic characteristics were generally not associated with LCV use frequency. Use of other substances was associated with more frequent use of both blunts and LCV in the past 30 days, and enrollment in college or the military seems somewhat protective for emerging adults. These findings suggest a need for tailored prevention efforts among high-risk adolescents and emerging adults, potential regulation of added flavors in commercialized cannabis products, and stronger enforcement of retail restrictions for individuals under age 21 more broadly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study examines whether symptoms of depression, anxiety, or comorbid depression and anxiety are associated with future use of nicotine or THC in e-cigarettes. METHODS Data were from an online survey of youth and young adults in urban areas of Texas with complete data (n = 2,307) in spring 2019 (baseline) and spring 2020 (12-month follow-up). Multivariable logistic regression models examined associations between self-reported symptoms of depression, anxiety, or comorbid depression and anxiety at baseline and past 30-day e-cigarette use with nicotine or THC at 12-month follow-up. Analyses adjusted for baseline demographics and baseline past 30-day e-cigarette, combustible tobacco, marijuana, and alcohol use and stratified by race/ethnicity, gender, grade level, and SES. RESULTS Participants were 16-23 years old, 58.1% female and 37.9% Hispanic. At baseline, 14.7% reported symptoms of comorbid depression and anxiety, 7.9% depression, and 4.7% anxiety. Prevalence of past 30-day e-cigarette use at 12-month follow-up was 10.4% with nicotine and 10.3% with THC. Symptoms of depression and comorbid depression and anxiety at baseline were significantly associated with both nicotine and THC use in e-cigarettes 12 months later. Symptoms of anxiety were associated with nicotine use in e-cigarettes 12 months later. CONCLUSIONS Symptoms of anxiety and depression may be important indicators of future nicotine and THC vaping among young people. Clinicians should be aware of groups most at risk who may benefit from substance use counseling and intervention.

Abstract
AIMS To measure longitudinal trajectories of marijuana use in four tobacco/nicotine products (hand-rolled cigarettes/spliffs, cigars/blunts, hookah, and e-cigarettes) among young adult Texas college students from 2015 to 2019. DESIGN This study used six consecutive waves of data from the marketing and promotions across colleges in Texas project (Project M-PACT), a longitudinal study of the tobacco behaviors of young adult college students. The first four waves were collected every 6 months (fall 2015-spring 2017), and the final two waves were conducted yearly (spring 2018 and 2019). Growth curve models measured trajectories of marijuana use in tobacco products across the 3.5-year period. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS A total of 4857 young adults from 24 colleges in the largest metropolitan areas of Texas, United States (Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio): mean age = 21.0, SD = 2.3; 64.2% assigned female; 36.1% non-Hispanic white, 31.0% Hispanic, and 33.0% other or combination race/ethnicity. MEASUREMENTS Participants completed online surveys assessing their past 6-month use of marijuana in four tobacco products of interest (spliffs, blunts, hookah, and e-cigarettes) and socio-demographic variables (sex, race/ethnicity, age, 2-year/4-year college attendance, and sexual and gender minority identity). FINDINGS Observed vaping marijuana in e-cigarettes approximately doubled between the spring of 2015 and the spring of 2019, from 11.8% to 23.9% following a quadratic time trend (linear OR = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.73-0.97, quadratic OR = 1.18, CI = 1.13-1.22). This same time period saw a quadratic decline in using marijuana in hookah (P < 0.001) and no changes in using hand-rolled cigarettes/spliffs or cigars/blunts for marijuana delivery. CONCLUSIONS The popularity of nicotine e-cigarettes appears to be expanding the avenues for marijuana delivery among young adults in Texas, United States.

Abstract
Cannabis vaping has emerged as a predominant mode of cannabis use among United States (US) adolescents and young adults (AYA) primarily due to the popularity of modifiable designs of vaping devices coupled with changes in cannabis policies and increased availability of cannabinoid products. New methods for cannabis vaping by e-liquid/oil vaping, dry plant vaping, and cannabis concentrate vaping (ie, dabbing) have had high uptake among American youth with unclear long-term health implications. Issues with contamination, mislabeling, and expansion of the vaped cannabis market to include not only delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) but also delta-9-THC analogs (eg, delta-8 and delta-10) sold as hemp-derived "legal highs" further complicated this healthcare space. Recent research suggests that cannabis/THC vaping carries distinct and overlapping risks when compared to cannabis smoking and may be associated with greater risk for acute lung injuries, seizures, and acute psychiatric symptoms. Primary care clinicians providing care for AYA are in an ideal position to identify cannabis misuse and intervene early to address cannabis vaping. To improve public health outcomes, a need exists for pediatric clinicians to be educated about different ways/methods that youth are vaping cannabinoid products and associated risks related to cannabinoid vaping. Further, pediatric clinicians need to be trained how to effectively screen for and discuss cannabis vaping with their youth patients. In the current article, we present a clinically focused review of cannabis vaping among young people with 3 main aims to: (1) identify and describe the cannabis vaping products commonly used by American youth; (2) review the health correlates of youth cannabis vaping; and (3) discuss clinical considerations related to identifying and treating youth who vape cannabis.

Abstract
Background The general use of cannabis in adolescence is associated with various sleep deficits. While traditional smoking remains the most common form of cannabis consumption amongst adolescents, novel methods of administration are becoming more popular and available due to legalization. The association of these novel methods of use with sleep in adolescence has yet to be studied and research is needed to inform public health initiatives. Methods High school (9th-12th grade) students from the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey with current cannabis use (n= 4,637) reported on numerous demographic variables, method of cannabis use (flower, edibles, dabs, and vaporizers) and average sleep duration on weeknights. Logistic regression assessed the relationship between novel methods of use (edibles, dabs, and vaporizers) and sleep duration in comparison to cannabis flower. Results Use of any edible, dab, or vaporizer product in the past 30-days was associated with being male and current tobacco use. Reporting a novel method of use as the most common mode of cannabis use was associated with current tobacco use and higher mothers' education. Students who used any novel method products in the past 30 days or reported these products as the usual mode of cannabis use, were more likely to sleep 7 hours or fewer a night. Conclusions Novel methods of cannabis administration such as edibles, dabs, and vaporizers are associated with getting less sleep than recommended (7 or less hours), in comparison to those who smoked flower. Sleep outcomes should be a focus of study for novel cannabis products amongst high school adolescents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nicotine vaping and cannabis use are common among youth. Among youth who use e-cigarettes, little is known about how and why they use cannabis and patterns of cannabis and nicotine co-use. Given the popularity of both products among youth, the study aim is to utilize qualitative data to better understand cannabis use among youth who use e-cigarettes. METHOD Six focus groups of high schoolers who reported past-month e-cigarette use (N = 50; 52% male) were conducted to inform e-cigarette cessation programming. We conducted secondary data analysis examining report of cannabis use during focus groups. Transcripts were examined for report of cannabis use, reasons for use, and nicotine and cannabis co-use. RESULTS In focus groups, cannabis was commonly discussed. Youth reported vaping cannabis, however other forms of cannabis delivery were common (e.g. blunts, joints). Themes related to reasons for simultaneous use of nicotine and cannabis were to experience stronger psychoactive effects than using either product alone and needing to use less nicotine product overall. Reasons for liking cannabis were positive psychoactive effects and stress relief. Reasons for disliking were related to health concerns. Notably, when youth reported disliking cannabis due to health concerns, a common discussion was strategies to acquire and continue cannabis use in ways that they perceived mitigated health concerns. CONCLUSION Qualitative evidence identified associations between e-cigarette use and cannabis use among youth. Research and interventions targeting youth using e-cigarettes should consider how to address dual use of these products.

Abstract
Purpose of Review The purpose of this review was to describe the state-of-the-literature on research specific to cannabis vaping among youth and young adults. Recent Findings Out of 1801 records identified, a total of 202 articles met eligibility criteria for inclusion in this review. Most of this literature (46.0% of studies) was specific to the health effects of cannabis vaping, particularly EVALI (e-cigarette and vaping associated lung injury). Other research areas identified in the review included the etiology (24.3%) and epidemiology (24.8%) of cannabis vaping, in addition to articles on regulation (8.4%) and marketing (5.5%) of the same. Summary Cannabis vaping is increasingly common among youth and young adults and more prevalent is settings where recreational use for adults has been legalized. The literature documents a number of negative health effects of cannabis vaping for young people, along with risk factors and reasons for the same.
