Abstract
Objective The objectives of this study were to understand patient preferences for obesity treatments, to describe how patients choose treatment options, and what factors influence their decisions. Methods This participatory action research used purposeful sampling to recruit 10 patients with complications of obesity. Photovoice was used as the qualitative research methodology. Recruitment took place in specialist clinics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease. Two males and eight females aged 18-75 years, with a BMI greater than 35 kg/m2 were recruited. Participants watched a 60-min video explaining nutritional, pharmacological, and surgical therapies in equipoise. Data was collected using photographs with a disposal camera followed by one-to-one semi-structured interviews. Afterward, this analysis utilised reflective thematic analysis. Results Five main themes were identified that influenced patients' decisions when selecting an obesity treatment: 1] Accessibility issues, 2] Polypharmacy, 3] Fears around future health 4] Lack of Support 5] Information Mismanagement. Conclusion The themes identified in this study represent the patients' voices for those living with obesity complications and what influences their decisions on treatment options. The findings underscore the need for a holistic and patient-centred approach to the management of obesity and its associated complications. Patient-centred care including knowledge, health literacy, support, and participation is essential to providing effective care for patients with obesity to make decisions between treatment options.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The correlation between body mass index (BMI) and utility in participants with obesity was assessed using health-related quality-of-life data collected in two weight loss intervention studies, SCALE and STEP 1. METHODS Short Form Health Survey 36-Item (SF-36) scores from SCALE and STEP 1 were mapped to EuroQoL-5 dimensions-3 levels (EQ-5D-3L) using an established algorithm to derive utilities for the UK. SF-36 scores from STEP 1 were converted into Short Form 6 dimension (SF-6D) utilities for Portugal using the tool developed by the University of Sheffield. The correlation between baseline BMI and utility was assessed by multiple linear regression analyses, controlling for demographic and clinical parameters. RESULTS A higher baseline BMI correlated with lower EQ-5D-3L and SF-6D utilities, although the trend was non-significant. Assuming linearity between BMI ranges 30-40 kg/m2, an additional unit of BMI correlated with 0.0041 and 0.0031 lower EQ-5D-3L scores in SCALE and 0.0039 and 0.0047 lower EQ-5D-3L and 0.0027 and 0.0020 lower SF-6D scores in STEP 1 for men and women, respectively. CONCLUSION In individuals with comparable demographic characteristics and weight-related comorbidities, a 1 unit change in BMI leads to a difference of up to 0.005 in utility indices. Abstract
AIM To assess the efficacy and safety of diacerein monotherapy in adults with obesity. METHODS Forty-two adults with obesity participated in the study and were randomly assigned to receive diacerein or placebo in addition to lifestyle modification for 14 weeks, in a double-blinded fashion. Differences in changes in body weight, body composition, metabolic variables, fatty liver-related indicators, cardiovascular system variables, lifestyle score and metabolic factors were compared. RESULTS Post-treatment weight loss percentage from baseline was -6.56% (-8.71%, -4.41%) in the diacerein group and -0.59% (-2.74%, 1.56%) in the placebo group. Compared with the placebo group, the diacerein group showed significant improvements in body composition, metabolic variables and indicators related to fatty liver. In addition, after 14 weeks of treatment, diacerein led to a significant reduction in serum visfatin concentration versus the placebo group. The reductions in total body fat mass and visceral fat area mediated the weight loss induced by diacerein. No significant differences were found between the groups in the number of adverse events and safety variables. CONCLUSIONS For adults with obesity, diacerein led to a clinically meaningful weight loss and provided multiple metabolic benefits with acceptable safety. These results support that diacerein is a promising candidate medicine to be developed for obesity management.

Abstract
Background: Metabolic inflammation (MI), long COVID (LC) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) share some metabolic common manifestations and inflammatory pathophysiological similarities. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and metabolic age are indicators of health status. The "METAINFLAMMATION-CM Y2020/BIO-6600" project, a prospective controlled study, aimed to identify differential diagnostic tools and clinical features among three inflammatory conditions by comparing obesity status (low BMI vs. high BMI). Methods: A total of 272 adults of both Caucasian and Hispanic descent, diagnosed with MI, LC or SLE, and a range of BMI, were recruited. Clinical and phenotypic traits were measured to analyze body composition, metabolic and inflammatory markers, HRQoL data, metabolic age and lifestyle habits using a 3 × 2 (disease × BMI) factorial design. Results: Some inflammatory related variables, such as fibrinogen, RDW (red cell blood distribution width), ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and NLR (neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio), showed effect modifications depending on the BMI and disease type. In relation to HRQoL, the Physical Component Summary (PCS12) showed no relevant changes, while the Mental Component Summary (MCS12) showed a significant effect modification according to the disease type and BMI (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a significant interaction was identified between the disease type and BMI in relation to metabolic age (p = 0.02). Conclusions: Assessing the impact of BMI on these three inflammatory diseases may help to prevent clinical complications and to design personalized treatments, especially for patients with SLE, who have a worse prognosis with an increased BMI compared to the other two inflammatory diseases.

Abstract
Time-restricted eating (TRE) is a circadian rhythm-based intermittent fasting intervention that has been used to treat obesity. However, the efficacy and safety of TRE for fat loss have not been comprehensively examined and the influences of TRE characteristics on such effects are unknown. This systematic review and meta-analysis comprehensively characterized the efficacy and safety of TRE for fat loss in adults with overweight and obese, and it explored the influence of TRE characteristics on this effect. METHODS A search strategy based on the PICOS principle was used to find relevant publications in seven databases. The outcomes were body composition, anthropometric indicators, and blood lipid metrics. Twenty publications (20 studies) with 1288 participants, covering the period from 2020 to 2024, were included. RESULTS Compared to the control group, TRE safely and significantly reduced body fat percentage, fat mass, lean mass, body mass, BMI, and waist circumference (MDpooled = -2.14 cm, 95% CI = -2.88~-1.40, p < 0.001), and increased low-density lipoprotein (LDL) (MDpooled = 2.70, 95% CI = 0.17~5.22, p = 0.037), but it did not alter the total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, and triglycerides (MDpooled = -1.09~1.20 mg/dL, 95% CI -4.31~5.47, p > 0.05). Subgroup analyses showed that TRE only or TRE-caloric restriction with an eating window of 6 to 8 h may be appropriate for losing body fat and overall weight. CONCLUSIONS This work provides moderate to high evidence that TRE is a promising dietary strategy for fat loss. Although it may potentially reduce lean mass and increase LDL, these effects do not pose significant safety concerns. This trial was registered with PROSPERO as CRD42023406329.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Our aim was to explore the potential relationship between SII and obesity, as well as abdominal obesity. METHODS AND RESULTS We utilized a weighted multivariable logistic regression model to investigate the relationship between SII and obesity, as well as abdominal obesity. Generalized additive models were employed to test for non-linear associations. Subsequently, we constructed a two-piecewise linear regression model and conducted a recursive algorithm to calculate inflection points. Additionally, subgroup analyses and interaction tests were performed. A total of 7,880 U.S. adult participants from NHANES 2011-2018 were recruited for this study. In the regression model adjusted for all confounding variables, the odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for the association between SII/100 and obesity, as well as abdominal obesity, were 1.03 (1.01, 1.06) and 1.04 (1.01, 1.08) respectively. There was a non-linear and reverse U-shaped association between SII/100 and obesity, as well as abdominal obesity, with inflection points at 7.32 and 9.98 respectively. Significant positive correlations were observed before the inflection points, while significant negative correlations were found after the inflection points. There was a statistically significant interaction in the analysis of age, hypertension, and diabetes. Moreover, a notable interaction is observed between SII/100 and abdominal obesity within non-Hispanic Asian populations. CONCLUSIONS In adults from the United States, there is a positive correlation between SII and the high risk of obesity, as well as abdominal obesity. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed to analyze the role of SII in obesity and abdominal obesity.

Abstract
The epidemic of obesity and metabolic syndrome has become the most serious global public health problem. The part played by microRNA (miRNA) in the onset and progression of obesity and metabolic syndrome has been increasingly focused upon. The goal of this study was to explore miR-335-5p as a potential predictive biomarker or therapeutic target for obesity and metabolic syndrome. The expression level of miR-335-5p was detected by qRT-PCR. The diagnostic value of miR-335-5p was evaluated by ROC curve. The association between serum miR-335-5p levels and various clinical parameters was assessed using the chi-square test. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the risk factors of metabolic syndrome in obese population. The biological processes and molecular mechanisms are studied through GO and KEGG enrichment analysis. The ROC curve analysis revealed that miR-335-5p could serve as a predictive indicator for the development of obesity accompanied by metabolic syndrome. Logistic regression analysis revealed that BMI, TG, FBG, HOMA-IR, and miR-335-5p expression represent independent risk factors of metabolic syndrome occurrence. Chi-square test analysis revealed that patients with higher values of BMI, SBP, DBP, TG, FBG, and HOMA-IR exhibited a more significantly increased expression of miR-335-5p in their serum. In conclusion, miR-335-5p holds predictive and diagnostic value for obesity and metabolic syndrome and has potential to serve as a biomarker for these conditions.

Abstract
Endometrial cancer (EC) patients make up the second largest group of female cancer survivors. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) including quality of life (QOL) and sexual function and satisfaction (SF and S) are critical facets of survivorship. This prospective, longitudinal study assesses associations between baseline characteristics and PROs after treatment. Herein, we report the baseline clinical characteristics and PROs prior to treatment initiation. Outcomes post-treatment over time will be reported separately. Patients with planned surgery for EC were prospectively enrolled in 2019-2021 and administered the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) QOL Questionnaire Core 30 (QLQ-C30), EORTC QLQ EC Module (EN24), Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), and the Mayo Clinic lower extremity lymphedema (LEL) questionnaire. This study enrolled 198 patients with a mean (SD) age of 63.6 (9.8) years and body mass index of 35.5 (8.3) kg/m2. No significant differences in the PROs for the QOL were seen when compared to the reference means (SD) except for the lower interest in sexual activity (31.9 (9.8) vs. 47.5 (SE0.70)) and lower fatigue (21.3 (19.8) vs. 31.7 (25.9)). Increased obesity was associated with an increased likelihood of LEL (p < 0.01) and multiple QOL scales, including poorer global health status (p < 0.01) and physical functioning (p < 0.01). Prior to treatment initiation for EC, the patients had a similar QOL compared to that of the general population. The patients with increasing obesity, a known risk factor for EC, had worse overall global health status and physical functioning. A better understanding of these QOL measures is imperative for earlier identification and intervention of patients at risk of chronic impairments from EC treatment.

Abstract
Background: Due to the high frequency of postoperative complications after body-contouring surgeries, the need for a unifying postoperative complication grading system that correlates with outcomes is of key importance. Here we therefore consider the application of the Clavien-Dindo classification to evaluate postoperative complications after body-contouring surgeries. Methods: A retrospective study on 602 patients who underwent body-contouring surgery between 2009 and 2015 at our institution was performed. The length of hospital stays, age, sex, follow-up visits, and postoperative complications were evaluated and classified using the Clavien-Dindo classification. Results: We raised a total of 672 body-contouring procedures on 602 patients (563 female, 39 male). According to the Clavien-Dindo System, the severity of postoperative complications following body-contouring procedures was significantly correlated with the duration of hospitalization (mean 5.8 ± 2.7 days) and the number of follow-up visits (mean 4.4 ± 4.7). Conclusions: The Clavien-Dindo classification offers a valid prediction for postoperative hospital stay and the number of follow-up visits after body-reshaping surgery. By becoming a validated and reliable grading system that correlates patients' outcomes after body-contouring procedures, this classification has the potential to significantly improve patients' healthcare and quality of life.

Abstract
Obesity is a complex disease with numerous health complications, influenced by factors such as genetics, lifestyle, mental health, societal impact, economic status, comorbidities, and treatments. This multicenter study included adults aged ≥35 years referred to a CVD prevention program, where sociodemographic data, anthropometric examinations, laboratory tests, and HLPCQ responses were collected. The study analyzed 1044 patients with a mean age of 47.9 years. Among them, 22.2% (232 patients) were diagnosed with obesity. These patients exhibited higher blood pressure, non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose levels (all p < 0.001). A comparative analysis showed that obese patients had significantly lower scores in healthy dietary choices, dietary harm avoidance, daily routine, organized physical exercise, and overall HLPCQ scores. These results indicate that individuals considered healthy were actually living with obesity and its associated complications. Consequently, family physicians should proactively identify patients at risk of obesity using existing programs. The Polish healthcare system urgently needs systemic solutions, including effective health promotion and the creation of obesity prevention programs at an early stage of adult life. These measures are essential to address the growing obesity epidemic and improve public health outcomes.

Abstract
Obesity has become a major public health concern worldwide. Pharmacological interventions with the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have shown promising results in facilitating weight loss and improving metabolic outcomes in individuals with obesity. Quantifying drug effects of GLP-1RAs on energy intake (EI) and body weight (BW) using a QSP modeling approach can further increase the mechanistic understanding of these effects, and support obesity drug development. An extensive literature-based dataset was created, including data from several diet, liraglutide and semaglutide studies and their effects on BW and related parameters. The Hall body composition model was used to quantify and predict effects on EI. The model was extended with (1) a lifestyle change/placebo effect on EI, (2) a weight loss effect on activity for the studies that included weight management support, and (3) a GLP-1R agonistic effect using in vitro potency efficacy information. The estimated reduction in EI of clinically relevant dosages of semaglutide (2.4 mg) and liraglutide (3.0 mg) was 34.5% and 13.0%, respectively. The model adequately described the resulting change in BW over time. At 20 weeks the change in BW was estimated to be -17% for 2.4 mg semaglutide and -8% for 3 mg liraglutide, respectively. External validation showed the model was able to predict the effect of semaglutide on BW in the STEP 1 study. The GLP-1RA body composition model can be used to quantify and predict the effect of novel GLP-1R agonists on BW and changes in underlying processes using early in vitro efficacy information.

Abstract
Person-centred care (PCC) is associated with improved patient well-being and higher levels of satisfaction with care but its impact on individuals living with obesity is not well-established. The main aim of this study was to assess the relationship between PCC and the physical and social well-being of patients living with obesity, as well as their satisfaction with care. This study is based on a cross-sectional, web-based survey administered among a representative panel of Dutch individuals living with obesity. The primary outcomes were physical and social well-being and satisfaction with care. The primary exposure was a rating of overall PCC, encompassing its eight dimensions. In addition, covariates considered in the analyses included sex, age, marital status, education level, body mass index, and chronic illness. The data from a total of 590 participants were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and multiple regression analyses. Among PCC dimensions, participants rated 'access to care' the highest (M 4.1, SD 0.6), while 'coordination of care' (M 3.5, SD 0.8) was rated lower than all other dimensions. Participants' overall PCC ratings were positively correlated with their physical (r = 0.255, P < .001) and social well-being (r = 0.289, P < .001) and their satisfaction with care (r = 0.788, P < .001), as were the separate dimension scores. After controlling for sex, age, marital status, education level, body mass index, and chronic illness in the regression analyses, participants' overall PCC ratings were positively related to their physical (β = 0.24, P < .001) and social well-being (β = 0.26, P < .001), and satisfaction with care (β = 0.79, P < .001). PCC holds promise for improved outcomes among patients living with obesity, both in terms of physical and social well-being, as well as satisfaction with care. This is an important finding, particularly when considering the profound physical, social, and psychological consequences associated with obesity. In addition to highlighting the potential benefits of PCC in the healthcare of individuals living with obesity, the findings offer valuable insights into strategies for further refining the provision of PCC to meet the specific needs of these patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE Sarcopenia was found to be a poor prognostic factor in kidney transplant recipients, but the role of sarcopenia obesity remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the effect of sarcopenic obesity on kidney transplantation. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed on kidney transplant recipients between 2015 and 2019. Pretransplant CT scans were utilized to assess sarcopenia and visceral obesity. Based on the presence or absence of sarcopenia and visceral obesity, the recipients were classified into four distinct groups. RESULTS The recipients were categorized into four groups based on their characteristics: the nonsarcopenic nonobesity group (n = 493, 49.85%), the nonsarcopenic obesity group (n = 248, 25.08%), the sarcopenic nonobesity group (n = 188, 19.01%), and the sarcopenic obesity group (n = 60, 6.07%). Multivariate analysis, identified sarcopenic obesity was as an independent risk factor for mortality following kidney transplantation (adjusted hazard ratio, 5.861; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.627-21.108; P = 0.007). Additionally, sarcopenic obesity was associated with an increased risk of delayed graft function (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 3.342; 95% CI 1.421-7.745; P = 0.005), perioperative incision infection (aOR, 9.654; 95% CI 1.572-60.648; P = 0.011), perioperative pulmonary infection (aOR, 2.557; 95% CI 1.208-5.215; P = 0.011), and readmission within 3 months (aOR, 2.100; 95% CI 1.051-4.017; P = 0.029). While sarcopenic obesity was found to be associated with impaired graft renal function, it did not show a significant correlation with death-censored graft survival or quality of life. CONCLUSION The presence of sarcopenic obesity prior to kidney transplantation represents an independent risk factor for mortality, and it is also linked to a range of unfavorable outcomes.

Abstract
In this multi-professional review, we will provide the in-depth knowledge required to work in the expanding field of obesity treatment. The prevalence of obesity has doubled in adults and quadrupled in children over the last three decades. The most common treatment offered has been lifestyle treatment, which has a modest or little long-term effect. Recently, several new treatment options-leading to improved weight loss-have become available. However, long-term care is not only about weight loss but also aims to improve health and wellbeing overall. In the era of personalized medicine, we have an obligation to tailor the treatment in close dialogue with our patients. The main focus of this review is new pharmacological treatments and modern metabolic surgery, with practical guidance on what to consider when selecting and guiding the patients and what to include in the follow-up care. Furthermore, we discuss common clinical challenges, such as patients with concurrent eating disorder or mental health problems, and treatment in the older adults. We also provide recommendations on how to deal with obesity in a non-stigmatizing way to diminish weight stigma during treatment. Finally, we present six microcases-obesity treatment for persons with neuropsychiatric disorders and/or intellectual disability; obesity treatment in the nonresponsive patient who has "tried everything"; and hypoglycemia, abdominal pain, and weight regain after metabolic surgery-to highlight common problems in weight-loss treatment and provide personalized treatment suggestions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study explored the association between psoriasis and the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI), a newly developed measure of adiposity. The research was conducted among adults in the United States. METHODS Utilizing survey data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning the years 2009 to 2014, the present study aimed to investigate the potential correlation between psoriasis and WWI within a sample of 15,920 adult participants. Employing multivariable logistic regression and nonlinear curve fitting techniques, we analyzed this plausible association. Additionally, a subgroup analysis was conducted to ascertain the consistency across diverse populations. RESULTS A significant positive association was discovered between psoriasis and WWI in the investigated sample of 15,920 adults. After conducting a comprehensive adjustment of the model, it was observed that each incremental unit of WWI was significantly associated with an 14% elevated likelihood of developing psoriasis (OR = 1.16, 95% CI 1.01-1.36). Moreover, individuals belonging to the highest quartile of WWI exhibited a 47% higher risk of psoriasis compared to those in the lowest quartile (OR = 1.44, 95% CI 1.01-2.06). This positive correlation remained consistent across various subgroups. The study also compared WWI with BMI and waist circumference, finding that WWI is a more stable metric of obesity. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggested that in US adults, there is a positive association between WWI and psoriasis. It also indicated that WWI showed potential as a valuable index of psoriasis among the general population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic disorders and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have captured the globe during Westernisation of lifestyle and related dietary habits over the last decades. Both disease entities are characterised by complex and heterogeneous clinical spectra linked to distinct symptoms and organ systems which, on a first glimpse, do not have many commonalities in clinical practice. However, experimental studies indicate a common backbone of inflammatory mechanisms in metabolic diseases and gut inflammation, and emerging clinical evidence suggests an intricate interplay between metabolic disorders and IBD. OBJECTIVE We depict parallels of IBD and metabolic diseases, easily overlooked in clinical routine. DESIGN We provide an overview of the recent literature and discuss implications of metabolic morbidity in patients with IBD for researchers, clinicians and healthcare providers. CONCLUSION The Western lifestyle and diet and related gut microbial perturbation serve as a fuel for metabolic inflammation in and beyond the gut. Metabolic disorders and the metabolic syndrome increasingly affect patients with IBD, with an expected negative impact for both disease entities and risk for complications. This concept implies that tackling the obesity pandemic exerts beneficial effects beyond metabolic health.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is known as a major public health problem with a noticeable adverse impact on quality of life and health expenditures worldwide. Despite using routine multiple pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions, including diet therapy and increasing physical activity, controlling this chronic disease remains a challenging issue, and therapeutic goals are often not achieved. Therefore, recently, other therapeutic procedures, such as using herbal products and functional foods as complementary or alternative medicine (CAM), have received great attention as a new approach to managing T2D complications, according to the literature. We reviewed the existing evidence that supports using various fundamental medicinal herbs, including cinnamon, saffron, ginger, jujube, turmeric, and barberry, as CAM adjunctive therapeutic strategies for T2D patients. The current review addressed different aspects of the potential impact of the abovementioned herbal products in improving glycemic indices and lipid profiles, including the effect size reported in the studies, their effective dose, possible side effects, herbs-drug interactions, and their potential action mechanisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Even though the effectiveness of community pharmacists in helping customers to reduce weight has been evident, few pharmacists provided weight management services (WMS). To drive community pharmacist WMS provision, factors affecting their intention and WMS provision were important to be investigated. OBJECTIVE The present study aimed to explore relationships among pharmacist authority, perceived customer obstruction, WMS performance support, obstacles, and facilitators with intention to provide WMS and WMS rovision using structural equation modeling (WMS. METHOD Self-administered questionnaires were utilized to collect data from 302 Thai community pharmacists from December 2022 to March 2023. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to explore the influencing factors on pharmacist WMS intention and WMS provision. RESULTS Pharmacist authority (r = 0.35), WMS performance support (r = 0.24), and facilitators (r = 0.22) were significantly correlated with community pharmacist WMS provision. Pharmacist authority (r = 0.50), facilitators (r = 0.46), and WMS performance support (r = 0.42) were significantly correlated with community pharmacist intention to provide WMS e structural equation model (SEM), pharmacist authority (β = 0.34) and intention (β = 0.16) significantly influenced WMS provision (R2 = 0.20). Authority (β = 0.49) and WMS performance support (β = 0.28) significantly influenced pharmacist intention to WMS (R2 = 0.42). The model from empirical data indicated a good fit with the hypothetical model (p-value = 0.000, Comparatively Fit Index = 0.9, and Tucker-Lewis Index = 0.878). CONCLUSION Pharmacist authority had direct effects with both their intention to provide WMS and WMS provision. WMS performance support had a direct effect on intention to provide WMS and an indirect effect on WMS provision. Facilitators also had significant correlations with intention to provide WMS and WMS provision.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the potential anti-obesity efficacy of Lactobacillus acidophilus CICC 6075. The study analyzed fecal metagenomic data from 120 obese and 100 non-obese individuals. C57BL/6 mice on normal diet or high-fat diet (HFD) were treated with L. acidophilus CICC 6075 by daily oral gavage for 12 weeks, followed by evaluations of the obesity phenotype. Metagenomic analysis revealed depletion of L. acidophilus in obese individuals. Administration of L. acidophilus CICC 6075 attenuated excessive weight gain and fat accumulation and maintained the intestinal barrier in HFD-induced obese mice. Sequencing results showed that HFD hindered α- and β-diversity while reducing the relative abundance of Lactobacillus and norank_f_Muribaculaceae and significantly increasing the relative abundance of Ileibacterium. L. acidophilus CICC 6075 reversed these results and reduced the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. Supplementation of L. acidophilus CICC 6075 enhanced histidine biosynthesis, inhibited the NF-κB pathway, and significantly reduced the expression levels of inflammatory factors in adipose tissue. These results indicate that L. acidophilus CICC 6075 alleviates HFD-induced obesity in mice by inhibiting the activation of the NF-κB pathway and enhancing gut microbiota functionality. This suggests that L. acidophilus CICC 6075 may be a good candidate probiotic for preventing obesity.

Abstract
Purpose The study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of SophorOx® (LN-OS-22) on oxidative stress and body composition in adults with excessive body weight and obesity. Participants and Methods The 56-days randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multi-centric clinical trial had individuals aged 30-60 years with body mass index (BMI) ≥25 to ≤34.9 kg/m2. 68 participants were randomly allocated to LN-OS-22 or placebo groups. The primary outcome was improvement in the oxidative stress. Secondary outcomes were changes in plasma lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, weight and waist circumference, inflammatory markers, and quality of life. Results At day 56, a statistically significant change in the 8-Isoprostane levels between LN-OS-22 vs placebo was observed (p = 0.0222). As compared to placebo, at the end of study, statistically significant reductions were demonstrated in body weight, waist circumference and BMI in the LN-OS-22 group (p < 0.0001). Also, a statistically significant change when compared to placebo for the energy/stamina domain (p = 0.0300) of the Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite-Clinical Trials Version (IWQOL-Lite-CT) questionnaire was depicted in LN-OS-22 group. Conclusion The study demonstrates that LN-OS-22 was effective in reducing the oxidative stress, anthropometrics and improving the quality of life in individuals with overweight and obesity.

Abstract
AIM To provide an updated estimate of the association between body mass index (BMI) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among the general population in England and to identify population subgroups with the highest potential utility gains from obesity interventions. MATERIALS AND METHODS The sample included 12 158 adults with valid HRQoL and BMI data from the 2017 and 2018 Health Survey for England. Robust standard error linear regression, controlling for demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, lifestyle behaviours and obesity-related comorbidities, was used for the baseline analysis. Robustness checks assessed the impact of (a) estimator selection; (b) model specifications; (c) statistical outliers at high BMI; (d) potential BMI measurement error; and (e) data pooling. RESULTS The study found a significant association between HRQoL and BMI, which exhibited an inverted U-shaped relationship. The mean HRQoL peaked at 25.7 kg/m2 in men and 22.6 kg/m2 in women and was reduced in the underweight, overweight and obesity BMI ranges. Sensitivity analyses reported similar coefficients, suggesting a robust model specification. CONCLUSIONS Reduced HRQoL beyond optimal BMI underlines the importance of maintaining a normal BMI range for overall health. The rising prevalence of class III obesity is a major public health concern given its disproportionate impact on health, health care utilization and costs. Obesity management is key to preventing the reduction in HRQoL associated with obesity-related comorbidities, and this analysis supports the development of targeted policies and population health initiatives for people with class III obesity.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to validate the factor structure of the 12-item Short-Form (SF-12) health-related quality of life (HRQOL) survey for Indian adults and assess the impact of lifestyle modification on the SF-12 of Indian adults with prediabetes. METHODS To validate the context-specific construct of the SF-12, two-factor confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed using data from 1285 adults residing in Chennai, India, who screened for the Diabetes Community Lifestyle Improvement Program (D-CLIP). D-CLIP was a randomized controlled trial of 578 participants with prediabetes (283 treatment, 293 control), focusing on the effect of lifestyle modifications on the prevention of diabetes. Physical and mental component scores (PCS and MCS) were computed by using CFA standardized factor loadings. Multiple linear regression was subsequently conducted to estimate the effect of lifestyle modification on post-study changes of PCS and MCS among D-CLIP participants. RESULTS Cronbach's alpha and CFA fit indices demonstrated acceptable reliability and model fit of the SF-12 for Indian adults. The intervention group showed greater mean change in PCS after study participation compared to the controls (1.63 ± 0.82, p = 0.046); no significant difference was observed for MCS between two groups (1.00 ± 0.85, p = 0.242). CONCLUSION The study confirmed that the SF-12 is suitable for assessing the physical and mental health dimensions of HRQOL for Indian adults. Our findings suggest that the benefits of diabetes prevention lifestyle modification strategies may primarily enhance the physical well-being of adults with prediabetes. Further studies validating the SF-12 in a broader Asian Indian population are needed. TRIAL REGISTRATION Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT01283308.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of childbearing age, associated with increased incidence of emotional disorders, anxiety and depression. OBJECTIVE The aim was of this study was to investigate whether those women reporting PCOS differed to women without PCOS in measures of psychological well-being including body-image satisfaction and self-esteem across a Middle Eastern population. MATERIALS AND METHODS An online survey link of 21 questions was shared and distributed across social media platforms (Instagram and WhatsApp). The main outcome measured was levels of self-esteem and body image satisfaction in association with symptoms experienced by the participants. RESULTS 12,199 female subjects completed the survey of whom 3,329 respondents (27.3%) self-reported a diagnosis of PCOS. PCOS respondents felt less attractive compared to non-PCOS respondents (73.9% vs 80.5%, p<0.0001). More respondents with PCOS reported avoidance of their reflection in the mirror (61.7% vs 49.8%, p<0.001) and avoidance of social interactions (22.3% vs 32.3%, p<0.0001). More PCOS respondents wanted to lose weight (75.2% vs 68.5%, p<0.001) with increasing weight being associated with being less attractive (p<0.001). Fewer PCOS respondents felt satisfied/confident compared non-PCOS respondents (38.6% vs 50.7%, p<0.001). CONCLUSION PCOS respondents reported significantly lower measures of self-esteem and body image satisfaction compared to non-PCOS respondents in this population.

Abstract
Background Obesity is related to various diseases such as endocrine metabolism and cardiovascular diseases. We provide an evidence-based evaluation for the effect of massage on patients with obesity. Methods Relevant literature published in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and other databases were searched until October 2023. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4. A p value less than 0.05 indicates a statistically significant difference. Results Twelve studies were finally included. Compared with conventional therapy, massage therapy were more effective, mainly in terms of (1) weight [mean difference (MD) = -3.71, 95%CI = -6.51,-0.88]; (2) body mass index (BMI), [MD = -2.00, 95%CI = -3.38, -0.62]; (3) Waist circumference (WC), [MD = -6.24, 95%CI = -8.71, -3.77]; (4) total cholesterol (TC), [MD = -0.65, 95%CI = -1.08, -0.22]; (5) triglycerides (TG), [MD = -0.92, 95%CI = -1.37, -0.47]. Conclusion Massage therapy may be more effective for patients with obesity than conventional treatment. Given the number of studies and potential heterogeneity, more high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm our conclusions.

Abstract
AIM Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with higher cardiovascular and metabolic risks, as well as with psychosocial disorders. Data regarding quality of life (QoL) in patients with MetS, point towards a significative association between MetS and a worse QoL. It remains unclear whether MetS components and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are associated with QoL in these individuals. We aimed to evaluate the association between QoL of patients with MetS and prespecified metabolic parameters (anthropometric, lipidic and glucose profiles), the risk of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis, and hepatic elastography parameters. METHODS Cross-sectional study including patients from microDHNA cohort. This cohort includes patients diagnosed with MetS, 18 to 75 years old, followed in our tertiary center. The evaluation included anamnesis, physical examination, a QoL questionnaire (Short-Form Health Survey, SF-36), blood sampling and hepatic elastography. We used ordered logistic regression models adjusted to sex, age and body mass index to evaluate the associations between the QoL domains evaluated by SF-36 and the prespecified parameters. RESULTS We included a total of 65 participants with MetS, with 54% being female and the mean age 61.9 ± 9.6 years old. A worse metabolic profile, specifically higher waist circumference, lower HDL, higher triglycerides, and more severe hepatic steatosis, were associated with worse QoL scores in several domains. We found no significant association of hepatic fibrosis with QoL. CONCLUSION Our data suggests that there is a link between a worse metabolic profile (specifically poorer lipidic profile and presence of hepatic steatosis) and a worse QoL in patients with MetS.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, is associated with significant weight loss, yet its impact on lean body mass remains insufficiently understood. This review investigates the effect of semaglutide on lean mass in the context of obesity management. METHODOLOGY This study investigates through different databases (PubMed, Elsevier, and Google Scholar) from 2016 for randomized control trials (RCTs) or observational studies that assessed the use of semaglutide in overweight or obese patients, regardless of whether they have type 2 diabetes or not. The studies compared semaglutide to a placebo or alternative medications. RESULTS Six studies with 1,541 overweight or obese adults were included, and significant weight reductions were observed primarily due to fat mass loss. While the lean mass remained stable in some cases, notable reductions ranging from almost 0% to 40% of total weight reduction were observed in others. Noteworthy decreases in lean mass were particularly evident in larger trials, yet the proportion of lean mass relative to total body mass increased, suggesting a positive overall outcome. CONCLUSION Semaglutide displays potential for weight loss primarily through fat mass reduction. However, concerns arise from notable reductions in lean mass, especially in trials with a larger number of patients.

Abstract
Obesity is the largest pandemic in the world, and its prevalence continues to increase. The purpose of the presented publication is to raise awareness of doctors about modern methods of diagnosing obesity and approaches to therapy, using an interdisciplinary team approach similar to that used in other chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The article presents data from the World Gastroenterological Organization (2023) and the European Guidelines for the Treatment of Obesity in patients with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver (2022). According to modern approaches, obesity should be considered as a chronic recurrent progressive disease, the treatment of which requires a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach involving psychologists and psychiatrists, nutritionists/nutritionists, therapists, endoscopists and surgeons, including lifestyle changes, a well-defined diet and exercise regimen, drug therapy, endoscopic or surgical methods of treatment. Conclusions. In order to stop the growing wave of obesity and its many complications and costs, doctors, insurance companies and health authorities should make systematic efforts to raise public awareness of both the adverse health risks associated with obesity and the potential reduction of risks through a comprehensive approach to therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This clinical trial explores the Sigstad score for late dumping syndrome in postoperative patients who have undergone sleeve gastrectomy (SG) or One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB). The aims of this study are to investigate the correlations with late dumping syndrome, to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Sigstad score and to discuss a modified scoring system. METHODS The study was conducted at the Obesity Center of the Westküstenklinikum Heide and included 271 patients. Data collection involved conducting interviews, diet diaries and measuring blood glucose levels. Non-parametric tests, logistic regression and McDonald's Omega were the selected statistical approaches. RESULTS Body Mass Index (BMI) decreased over time (-9.67 kg/m2 at 4 months, -15.58 kg/m2 at 12 months). Preoperatively, the Sigstad score exhibited the highest value, and no occurrences of late dumping syndrome were observed. No significant differences were found in BMI concerning late dumping syndrome or Sigstad score among postoperative patients. Postoperative patients experienced an increase in gastrointestinal symptoms. The reliability test showed a McDonald's omega value of 0.509. The analysis conducted through binary logistic regression indicated dizziness as a significant predictor of late dumping syndrome; however, this finding did not hold up after performing Bonferroni correction. CONCLUSION The Sigstad score is not a reliable or valid method for detecting late dumping syndrome after surgery for obesity and metabolic disorders. It is necessary to have alternatives that use objective measures and assess the quality of life, and that these alternatives be validated in large patient cohorts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND No study has quantified the impact of pain and other adverse health outcomes on global physical and mental health in long-term US testicular cancer survivors or evaluated patient-reported functional impairment due to pain. METHODS Testicular cancer survivors given cisplatin-based chemotherapy completed validated surveys, including Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System v1.2 global physical and mental health, Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System pain questionnaires, and others. Multivariable linear regression examined relationships between 25 adverse health outcomes with global physical and mental health and pain-interference scores. Adverse health outcomes with a β^ of more than 2 are clinically important and reported below. RESULTS Among 358 testicular cancer survivors (median age = 46 years, interquartile range [IQR] = 38-53 years; median time since chemotherapy = 10.7 years, IQR = 7.2-16.0 years), median adverse health outcomes number was 5 (IQR = 3-7). A total of 12% testicular cancer survivors had 10 or more adverse health outcomes, and 19% reported chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain. Increasing adverse health outcome numbers were associated with decreases in physical and mental health (P < .0001 each). In multivariable analyses, chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (β^ = -3.72; P = .001), diabetes (β^ = -4.41; P = .037), obesity (β^ = -2.01; P = .036), and fatigue (β^ = -8.58; P < .0001) were associated with worse global mental health, while being married or living as married benefited global mental health (β^ = 3.63; P = .0006). Risk factors for pain-related functional impairment included lower extremity location (β^ = 2.15; P = .04) and concomitant peripheral artery disease (β^ = 4.68; P < .001). Global physical health score reductions were associated with diabetes (β^ = -3.81; P = .012), balance or equilibrium problems (β^ = -3.82; P = .003), cognitive dysfunction (β^ = -4.43; P < .0001), obesity (β^ = -3.09; P < .0001), peripheral neuropathy score (β^ = -2.12; P < .0001), and depression (β^ = -3.17; P < .0001). CONCLUSIONS Testicular cancer survivors suffer adverse health outcomes that negatively impact long-term global mental health, global physical health, and pain-related functional status. Clinically important factors associated with worse physical and mental health identify testicular cancer survivors requiring closer monitoring, counseling, and interventions. Chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain must be addressed, given its detrimental impact on patient-reported functional status and mental health 10 or more years after treatment.

Abstract
The aim of the paper is to review the current evidence on the impact of 'the timing of energy intake' on the risk of developing obesity and obesity-related metabolic diseases. The prevalence of obesity is currently increasing worldwide thus becoming a severe health burden for most countries. Indeed, obesity represents a risk factor for several non-communicable diseases such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, CVD and overall mortality. In order to treat obesity, several pharmacological approaches have been developed and are indicated for subjects with obesity with a BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 or ≥ 27 kg/m2 and obesity-related comorbidities. For severe obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2), bariatric surgery represents a promising approach. The most common bariatric surgical procedures are represented by the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable band, laparoscopic gastric sleeve and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. Both anti-obesity pharmacological and surgical treatments require change in lifestyle. When a nutritional plan is established, attention is usually paid to macronutrient composition and energy intake, while 'the time of food' is not taken into account. Chronotype, which is the attitude of a subject to carry out most of their daily activities in the first (morning chronotype) or second half (evening chronotype) of the day, has been reported to have a role in the pathogenesis of obesity and obesity-related cardiometabolic diseases as well as eating speed. Thus, adopting a physiological timing of energy intake could be an additional strategy to potentiate the current anti-obesity approaches.

Abstract
C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein 13 (CTRP13) has been reported to participate in cardiovascular diseases. However, the role and molecular mechanism of CTRP13 in obesity-induced endothelial cell damage is still unclear. In palmitic acid (PA)-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), qRT-PCR and western blot were used to examine CTRP13 expression. CCK-8 and TUNEL assays were adopted to assess cell viability and apoptosis, respectively. ROS level and MDA content were evaluated by their commercial kits and inflammatory cytokines were measured using ELISA. Endothelial cell dysfunction was evaluated by detecting NO production and eNOS expression, and tube formation assay was performed to assess angiogenesis. AMPK pathway-related proteins were detected by western blot. The results showed that CTRP13 was downregulated in PA-induced HUVECs. CTRP13 overexpression reduced PA-induced cell viability loss and oxidative stress in HUVECs. Moreover, CTRP13 overexpression suppressed PA-induced inflammation and apoptosis, improved angiogenesis ability, and alleviated endothelial cell dysfunction in HUVECs. In addition, CTRP13 overexpression activated AMPK pathway and regulated the expressions of downstream NOX1/p38 and KLF2. Furthermore, compound C countervailed the impacts of CTRP13 overexpression on cell viability, oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and endothelial function in PA-induced HUVECs. To sum up, CTRP13 overexpression may alleviate PA-induced endothelial cell damage.

Abstract
Introduction: The staple line (SL) leak remains one of the most serious complications after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The present study aims to determine whether reinforcing the SL with sutures is effective in maintaining tissue integrity. Materials and Methods: LSG Specimens of 60 patients were ex vivo studied. The specimens were divided into three groups: In group 1, the entire SL was reinforced, while the upper half part of the SL was reinforced from fundus to antrum in group 2. The SL was not reinforced in group 3. Then, the pressure inside the sample was increased, and the bursting pressure location and pressure value during the bursting were recorded. Results: The bursting pressure was significantly higher in entire and half oversewed SL groups than the none reinforced group (group 1: 115 mmHg [95-170]; group 2: 95 mmHg [80-120]; group 3: 40 mmHg [22-60], respectively, [P < .001]). The most common site of bursting was in the middle ⅓ of SL (35, 53.8%), followed by the proximal ⅓ part of SL (18, 27.7%), and the distal ⅓ part of SL (12, 18.5%), respectively. The bursting site was significantly more frequent in the corpus than the other parts of the SL (P = .013). Conclusion: Reinforcing the SL with sutures preserves tissue integrity. Although bursting was most frequently observed in the corpus region ex vivo, the fact that almost all real-life leaks develop in the area close to the Angle of His. This situation suggests that strengthening the suture line with reinforcement alone will not be protective enough against leaks in the fundus line, and factors such as tissue ischemia may be considered.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Financial Incentives for Weight Reduction (FIReWoRk) clinical trial showed that financial incentive weight-loss strategies designed using behavioral economics were more effective than provision of weight-management resources only. We now evaluate cost-effectiveness. METHODS Cost-effectiveness analysis of a multisite randomized trial enrolling 668 participants with obesity living in low-income neighborhoods. Participants were randomized to (1) goal-directed incentives (targeting behavioral goals), (2) outcome-based incentives (targeting weight-loss), and (3) resources only, which were provided to all participants and included a 1-year commercial weight-loss program membership, wearable activity monitor, food journal, and digital scale. We assessed program costs, time costs, quality of life, weight, and incremental cost-effectiveness in dollars-per-kilogram lost. RESULTS Mean program costs at 12 months, based on weight loss program attendance, physical activity participation, food diary use, self-monitoring of weight, and incentive payments was $1271 in the goal-directed group, $1194 in the outcome-based group, and $834 in the resources-only group (difference, $437 [95% CI, 398 to 462] and $360 [95% CI, 341-363] for goal-directed or outcome-based vs resources-only, respectively; difference, $77 [95% CI, 58-130] for goal-directed vs outcome-based group). Quality of life did not differ significantly between the groups, but weight loss was substantially greater in the incentive groups (difference, 2.34 kg [95% CI, 0.53-4.14] and 1.79 kg [95% CI, -0.14 to 3.72] for goal-directed or outcome-based vs resources only, respectively; difference, 0.54 kg [95% CI, -1.29 to 2.38] for goal-directed vs outcome-based). Cost-effectiveness of incentive strategies based on program costs was $189/kg lost in the goal-directed group (95% CI, $124/kg to $383/kg) and $186/kg lost in the outcome-based group (95% CI, $113/kg to $530/kg). CONCLUSIONS Goal-directed and outcome-based financial incentives were cost-effective strategies for helping low-income individuals with obesity lose weight. Their incremental cost per kilogram lost were comparable to other weight loss interventions.

Abstract
With economic development and overnutrition, including high-fat diets (HFD) and high-glucose diets (HGD), the incidence of obesity in children is increasing, and thus, the incidence of precocious puberty is increasing. Therefore, it is of great importance to construct a suitable animal model of overnutrition-induced precocious puberty for further in-depth study. Here, we fed a HFD, HGD, or HFD combined with a HGD to pups after P-21 weaning, while weaned pups fed a normal diet served as the control group. The results showed that HFD combined with a HGD increased the body weight (BW) of weaned rat pups. In addition, a HFD, HGD, and HFD combined with a HGD lowered the age at which vaginal opening occurred and accelerated the vaginal cell cycle. Furthermore, a HFD combined with a HGD increased the weight of the uterus and ovaries of weaned rat pups. Additionally, a HFD combined with a HGD promoted the development of reproductive organs in weaned female rat pups. Ultimately, a HFD combined with a HGD was found to elevate the serum levels of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), leptin, adiponectin, and oestradiol (E2) and increase hypothalamic GnRH, Kiss-1, and GPR54 expression levels in weaned female rat pups. The current study found that overnutrition, such as that through a HFD combined with HGD, could induce precocious puberty in weaned female rat pups. In addition, a rat model of overnutrition-induced precocious puberty was established.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of electroacupuncture for the treatment of obesity. METHODS We searched 8 electronic databases for articles published between 2005 and 2021, including only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in the review. The intervention groups received either electroacupuncture alone or electroacupuncture with standard care, whereas the control groups received sham electroacupuncture, standard care, or no treatment. The primary outcome was the body mass index (BMI), and the secondary outcomes were the body weight (BW), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), body fat mass, body fat percentage, and adverse effects. Continuous outcome data are presented as mean differences (MDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS This systematic review and meta-analysis included 13 RCTs involving 779 participants. Results revealed that the BMI (MD: -0.98; 95% CI: -1.35 to -0.61), BW (MD: -1.89; 95% CI: -2.97 to -0.80), WC (MD: -2.67; 95% CI: -4.52 to -0.82), and WHR (MD: -0.03; 95% CI: -0.06 to -0.01) were significantly improved in the intervention groups compared with those in the control groups. Adverse effects were reported in 5 studies. The most commonly used acupoint in the abdomen was ST25, whereas the most commonly used acupoints in other regions were ST36 and SP6 for the treatment of obesity. ST25 was the most commonly used acupoint connected by electroacupuncture. CONCLUSION This systematic review and meta-analysis suggested that electroacupuncture is an effective and safe therapy for simple obesity. To increase the reliability of this study, further detailed, long-term studies should be conducted on the effects of electroacupuncture on obesity.

Abstract
Depression is among the main causes of disability, and its protracted manifestations could make it even harder to treat metabolic diseases. Obesity is linked to episodes of depression, which is closely correlated to abdominal adiposity and impaired food quality. The present review is aimed at studying possible links between obesity and depression along with targets to disrupt it. Research output in Pubmed and Scopus were referred for writing this manuscript. Obesity and depression are related, with the greater propensity of depressed people to gain weight, resulting in poor dietary decisions and a sedentary lifestyle. Adipokines, which include adiponectin, resistin, and leptin are secretory products of the adipose tissue. These adipokines are now being studied to learn more about the connection underlying obesity and depression. Ghrelin, a gut hormone, controls both obesity and depression. Additionally, elevated ghrelin levels result in anxiolytic and antidepressant-like effects. The gut microbiota influences the metabolic functionalities of a person, like caloric processing from indigestible nutritional compounds and storage in fatty tissue, that exposes an individual to obesity, and gut microorganisms might connect to the CNS through interconnecting pathways, including neurological, endocrine, and immunological signalling systems. The alteration of brain activity caused by gut bacteria has been related to depressive episodes. Monoamines, including dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, have been widely believed to have a function in emotions and appetite control. Emotional signals stimulate arcuate neurons in the hypothalamus that are directly implicated in mood regulation and eating. The peptide hormone GLP-1(glucagon-like peptide- 1) seems to have a beneficial role as a medical regulator of defective neuroinflammation, neurogenesis, synaptic dysfunction, and neurotransmitter secretion discrepancy in the depressive brain. The gut microbiota might have its action in mood and cognition regulation, in addition to its traditional involvement in GI function regulation. This review addressed the concept that obesity-related low-grade mild inflammation in the brain contributes to chronic depression and cognitive impairments.

Abstract
PURPOSE Obesity is a growing health problem that affects a high percentage of the population. In podiatry context, few studies have addressed obesity because most pedobarographic systems are unable to bear the weight of patients with obesity, making it difficult to examine and manage these patients. The objective of this study was analyzed the sociodemographic characteristics, quality of life, foot disorders, and pedobarographic parameters of patients with extreme obesity who are candidates for bariatric surgery and determine the changes after weight loss post-surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a foot examination, a pedobarographic study using a Podoprint® pressure platform, and a quality of life questionnaire (EQ-5D) on 23 patients with extreme obesity and analyzed the changes 12-18 months after surgery in 11 of them. RESULTS We observed foot disorders, high plantar pressure, greater rearfoot contact, flat footprint, asymmetries, and alterations in toe contact. Almost 73.9% of participants said they had foot pain, 56.5% said they had impaired mobility, and more than 40% said they had limitations in carrying out daily activities and suffered from anxiety. After weight loss, we observed improved quality of life; more foot disorders; changes in total contact area, plantar pressures, barycenter, contact time, and footprint; decreased pain perception, walking problems and anxiety situations. Moreover, medication decreased, but they need to take more vitamins and calcium. CONCLUSION Weight loss improved the quality of life of the participating patients but altered their foot disorders. All parameters need regular reassessment to detect changes and modify initially prescribed treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rapid digitalization in health care has led to the adoption of digital technologies; however, limited trust in internet-based health decisions and the need for technical personnel hinder the use of smartphones and machine learning applications. To address this, automated machine learning (AutoML) is a promising tool that can empower health care professionals to enhance the effectiveness of mobile health apps. OBJECTIVE We used AutoML to analyze data from clinical studies involving patients with chronic hand and/or foot eczema or psoriasis vulgaris who used a smartphone monitoring app. The analysis focused on itching, pain, Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) development, and app use. METHODS After extensive data set preparation, which consisted of combining 3 primary data sets by extracting common features and by computing new features, a new pseudonymized secondary data set with a total of 368 patients was created. Next, multiple machine learning classification models were built during AutoML processing, with the most accurate models ultimately selected for further data set analysis. RESULTS Itching development for 6 months was accurately modeled using the light gradient boosted trees classifier model (log loss: 0.9302 for validation, 1.0193 for cross-validation, and 0.9167 for holdout). Pain development for 6 months was assessed using the random forest classifier model (log loss: 1.1799 for validation, 1.1561 for cross-validation, and 1.0976 for holdout). Then, the random forest classifier model (log loss: 1.3670 for validation, 1.4354 for cross-validation, and 1.3974 for holdout) was used again to estimate the DLQI development for 6 months. Finally, app use was analyzed using an elastic net blender model (area under the curve: 0.6567 for validation, 0.6207 for cross-validation, and 0.7232 for holdout). Influential feature correlations were identified, including BMI, age, disease activity, DLQI, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Anxiety scores at follow-up. App use increased with BMI >35, was less common in patients aged >47 years and those aged 23 to 31 years, and was more common in those with higher disease activity. A Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Anxiety score >8 had a slightly positive effect on app use. CONCLUSIONS This study provides valuable insights into the relationship between data characteristics and targeted outcomes in patients with chronic eczema or psoriasis, highlighting the potential of smartphone and AutoML techniques in improving chronic disease management and patient care.

Abstract
Background The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) is widely used in clinical practice and research. However, FAOS reference values are missing to aid interpretation. This study aimed to establish national record-based reference values for the FAOS. Methods A national representative sample of 9996 adult Danish citizens was derived from the Danish Civil Registration System. The FAOS questionnaire was sent to all participants, including 2 supplemental questions regarding previous foot and ankle problems and body mass index (BMI). A threshold of 10 FAOS points was predefined as a clinically relevant difference across all 5 subscales. Results A total of 2759 participants completed the FAOS. Mean age of participants was 60.5 years, and 51% were women. The mean FAOS subscale scores were as follows: pain, 87.1 (95% CI 86.4-87.8); symptoms, 85.1 (95% CI 84.5-85.8); activity of daily living (ADL), 88.9 (95% CI 88.2-89.6); sport and recreation function 78.5 (95% CI 77.4-79.6); and quality of life (QOL), 79.9 (95% CI 79.0-80.9). The mean difference between men and women was small and not clinically relevant (ranged from 0.9 in ADL to 3.4 in QOL). The largest differences in mean scores between age groups ranged from 4.3 in symptoms to 16.4 in sport/rec. Except for the subscale sport/rec, all age-related differences were below the predefined threshold of 10 for clinical relevance. The difference in mean subscale scores between the lowest BMI group (<24.7) and the obese group (>30) ranged from 19.6 in ADL to 39.1 in sport/rec. Conclusion We found in our population that BMI severely impacted FAOS scores. We recommend using BMI-specific reference FAOS values. Separate FAOS reference values for men and women appear not needed. Stratifying reference values for age is likely not needed except for the subscale sport and recreation function. Abstract
BACKGROUND Supporting patients before, and long after, their bariatric treatment contributes a lot to successful outcome. eHealth interventions have a hypothetical benefit in addition to standard care. This could lead to increased weight loss, reduction of obesity-related diseases, patient adherence, and quality of life. This randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the value of an eHealth platform and self-monitoring devices as additions to standard bariatric care. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two-hundred-and-five patients who underwent primary bariatric surgery were randomized (2:1:1) to receive standard care (control group), additional access to an educational patient eHealth platform (online group), or additional access to eHealth platform as well as self-monitoring devices (device group). The platform consisted of an interactive educational environment with informational videos, dietary advice, news, and more. The self-monitoring devices used were a weight scale, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, and activity bracelet. The primary endpoint was weight loss and secondary outcomes included reduction of obesity-related diseases, quality of life, and eHealth use. RESULTS Postoperative weight loss, reduction of obesity-related diseases, frequency of consultations, and quality of life were similar between groups. Participation to the eHealth platform was high (online group 90%, device group 98%). Most frequently accessed contents were informational messages, videos, and the treatment preparation modules. The percentage of active users of the self-monitoring devices dropped from 62% in the first postoperative month to 19% after 2 years. Thirteen patients in the device group withdrew due to unwillingness to use self-monitoring devices. CONCLUSION Participation to the eHealth intervention in addition to the standard post-bariatric guidance program was high, however, had no significant impact on clinical outcomes such as weight loss, reduction of obesity-related diseases, and quality of life. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the impact of greenness and fine particulate matter <2.5 μm (PM2.5 ) on overweight/obesity among older adults in China. METHODS A total of 21,355 participants aged ≥65 years were included from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey between 2000 and 2018. Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) with a radius of 250 m and PM2.5 in a 1 × 1-km grid resolution were calculated around each participant's residence. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the effects of NDVI and PM2.5 on overweight/obesity. Interaction and mediation analyses were conducted to explore combined effects. RESULTS The study observed 1895 incident cases of overweight/obesity over 109,566 person-years. For every 0.1-unit increase in NDVI the hazard ratio of overweight/obesity was 0.91 (95% CI: 0.88-0.95), and for every 10-μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 the hazard ratio was 1.11 (95% CI: 1.07-1.14). The effect of NDVI on overweight/obesity was partially mediated by PM2.5 , with a relative mediation proportion of 20.10% (95% CI: 1.63%-38.57%). CONCLUSIONS Greenness exposure appears to lower the risk of overweight/obesity in older adults in China, whereas PM2.5 , acting as a mediator, partly mediated this protective effect.

Abstract
Metabolism refers to a series of orderly chemical reactions used to maintain life activities in organisms. In healthy individuals, metabolism remains within a normal range. However, specific diseases can lead to abnormalities in the levels of certain metabolites, causing them to either increase or decrease. Detecting these deviations in metabolite levels can aid in diagnosing a disease. Traditional biological experiments often rely on a lot of manpower to do repeated experiments, which is time consuming and labor intensive. To address this issue, we develop a deep learning model based on the auto-encoder and non-negative matrix factorization named as MDA-AENMF to predict the potential associations between metabolites and diseases. We integrate a variety of similarity networks and then acquire the characteristics of both metabolites and diseases through three specific modules. First, we get the disease characteristics from the five-layer auto-encoder module. Later, in the non-negative matrix factorization module, we extract both the metabolite and disease characteristics. Furthermore, the graph attention auto-encoder module helps us obtain metabolite characteristics. After obtaining the features from three modules, these characteristics are merged into a single, comprehensive feature vector for each metabolite-disease pair. Finally, we send the corresponding feature vector and label to the multi-layer perceptron for training. The experiment demonstrates our area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.975 and area under the precision-recall curve of 0.973 in 5-fold cross-validation, which are superior to those of existing state-of-the-art predictive methods. Through case studies, most of the new associations obtained by MDA-AENMF have been verified, further highlighting the reliability of MDA-AENMF in predicting the potential relationships between metabolites and diseases.

Abstract
Introduction Despite rising concerns regarding the safety of anti-obesity medications, there is a lack of comprehensive pharmacovigilance investigations utilising real-world data. We aimed to characterise the prevalence and seriousness of adverse drug events (ADEs) related to anti-obesity medications and to identify predictors associated with increased risk of serious adverse events (SAE), thereby conveying evidence on drug safety. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional analysis on ADE cases spontaneously reported to the Korea Adverse Event Reporting System Database (KIDS-KD). ADE reports pertaining to anti-obesity medications prescribed for overweight, obesity (International Classification of Disease, 10th revision (ICD-10) code E66) and abnormal weight gain (ICD-10 code E63.5) were included in the analysis. We performed a disproportionality to detect the association of the system organ class-based ADEs with their seriousness an individual's sex by estimating reporting odds ratios (RORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We performed logistic regression to investigate factors that are substantially associated with increased SAE risks by estimating odds ratio (OR) and their 95% CIs. Results The most common causative anti-obesity medication was phentermine, followed by liraglutide. ADEs associated with psychiatric disorders (ROR = 1.734; 95% CI = 1.111-2.707), liver and biliary system disorders (ROR = 22.948; 95% CI = 6.613-70.635), cardiovascular disorders (ROR = 5.707; 95% CI = 1.965-16.574), and respiratory disorders (ROR = 4.567; 95% CI = 1.774-11.762) were more likely to be serious events. Additionally, men are more likely to experience ADEs related gastrointestinal disorders (ROR = 1.411) and less likely to have heart and rhythm disorders (ROR = 0.507). The risk of SAE incidences was positively correlated with being male (OR = 2.196; 95% CI = 1.296-3.721), dual or triple combination of anti-obesity medications (OR = 3.258; 95% CI = 1.633-6.501 and OR = 8.226; 95% CI = 3.046-22.218, respectively), and concomitant administration of fluoxetine (OR = 5.236; 95% CI = 2.218-12.365). Conclusions Seriousness of anti-obesity medication-related ADEs differs among system-organ class, while sex-related differences in ADE profiles are also present. The predictors substantially increasing risk of SAE incidences include being male, having a higher number of concomitant medications (including multiple combination of anti-obesity medications), and concurrent use of fluoxetine. Nonetheless, further pharmacovigilance investigation and monitoring are needed to enhance awareness on ADEs induced by anti-obesity medications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity is a serious chronic disease that adversely affects health and quality of life. However, a significant percentage of people do not participate in or adhere to weight loss programs. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach is needed to identify critical barriers to effective obesity management and to examine health practitioners' attitudes and behaviors towards effective obesity treatment. METHODS This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020. Eligible studies were identified through a systematic review of the literature using Medline, Scopus, Cochrane, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Embase databases from January 1, 2011 to March 2, 2021. RESULTS A total of 57 articles were included. Data on 12663 physicians were extracted from a total of 35 quantitative articles. Some of the most commonly perceived attitude issues included "obesity has a huge impact on overall health", "obesity is a disease" and "HCPs are to blame". Health professionals were more inclined to believe in "using BMI to assess obesity," "advice to increase physical activity," and "diet/calorie reduction advice." The major obstacles to optimal treatment of obesity were "lack of motivation", "lack of time" and "lack of success". CONCLUSION Although the majority of health care professionals consider obesity as a serious disease which has a large impact on overall health, counseling for lifestyle modification, pharmacologic or surgical intervention occur in almost half of the visits. Increasing the length of physician visits as well as tailoring appropriate training programs could improve health care for obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity and obesity-related morbidities are associated with poor psychosocial adjustment and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study aims to examine HRQoL and psychosocial outcomes in children with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO), and the effects of familial health on these outcomes. METHODS Four hundred and six children with BMI for age ≥ 97th percentile were classified as having MHO and MUO based on the absence or presence of metabolic abnormalities. HRQoL and psychosocial outcomes were assessed using validated questionnaires such as PedsQL and DASS-21. RESULTS There were no significant differences in HRQoL and psychosocial outcomes between children with MHO and children with MUO. Children with MUO and prior knowledge of existing metabolic conditions reported significantly lower total HRQoL (71.18 ± 17.42 vs. 75.34 ± 15.33), and higher depression (12.16 ± 11.80 vs. 8.95 ± 8.52) and stress (12.11 ± 8.21 vs. 10.04 ± 7.92) compared to children with MHO. Children with MUO who had fathers with metabolically unhealthy phenotype reported significantly lower total HRQoL (72.41 ± 15.67 vs. 76.82 ± 14.91) compared to children with MUO who had fathers with metabolically healthy phenotype. CONCLUSION Prior knowledge of existing metabolic abnormalities was associated with poorer HRQoL and mental health in children with obesity. Paternal metabolic health status influenced HRQoL in children with MUO. IMPACT First study that compared health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychosocial outcomes between children with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and children with metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO). No significant differences in HRQoL and psychosocial outcomes between children with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and children with metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO). Children with MUO who had prior knowledge of existing metabolic conditions reported lower HRQoL, higher depression and stress compared to children with MHO. Paternal metabolic health status was found to influence HRQoL in children with MUO. Mental health support intervention with paternal involvement should be provided for children with MUO.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Obesity is associated with reduced quality of life and reduced life satisfaction, but does weight loss make you happier? The objective of this study was to investigate if body mass index (BMI) is associated with self-reported global life satisfaction, and if weight loss among individuals with overweight is associated with a higher life satisfaction than among weight-stable individuals with overweight. METHODS The participants in the present population-based cohort study from Denmark were 15,213 adults (18 years or older) in the Lolland-Falster Health Study who reported their global life satisfaction with the Cantril Ladder Score (CLS) (scores range from 0, very poor, through 10, very good). The association of BMI and history of weight loss with CLS was assessed by multivariable analyses adjusted for sex, age, educational level, cohabitation, self-reported health, and smoking status. RESULTS Higher BMI was associated with lower CLS (p < 0.0001). BMI 30-35 was associated with a 0.47 point (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.39; 0.55) lower score and BMI ≥45 with a 1.85 point (CI 1.45; 2.25) lower score, than BMI 18.5-25. History of weight loss was associated with lower CLS among individuals with BMI ≥25 (-0.15 lower CLS, p < 0.005), whereas in the subgroup of individuals with BMI ≥25 and good self-reported health, there was no significant difference in CLS between the weight stable and the weight loss groups (-0.05, p 0.33). CONCLUSION This study found that higher BMI was associated with lower CLS. In subjects with BMI ≥25, weight loss was associated with lower CLS compared with stable weight during 5 years. In subjects with BMI ≥25 and good self-reported health, there was no relation between weight loss and CLS. Thus, contrary to our hypothesis, we found that weight loss among participants with overweight was not associated with higher life satisfaction.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to investigate the role of the functional structure of the pylorus in obesity and diabetes and to determine the efficacy of a new method, pyloric revision (PR), in the treatment. METHODS The pyloric structures of the patients who applied for endoscopic obesity treatment were examined, and the patients were classified as normotonic (NP), hypotonic (HP), and atonic (AP) according to their pyloric structures. PR was applied to those with pyloric structural disorders. Patients with NP were also given the preferred endoscopic treatment (balloon, botulinum toxin, Kanlioz technique). In addition, the pre-procedure fasting blood glucose (FBG) and glycated hemoglobin levels (HbA1c) of the patients were compared with the sixth-month post-procedure status. In order to compare the pyloric structure and other parameters in normal weights with the obese group, a second group of 100 normal-weight (BMI<25) individuals was formed and compared with the study group. RESULTS In patients with HP (93 patients) and AP (61 patients), a statistically significant decrease was found between HbA1c and FBG levels before treatment and six months after treatment (p˂0.02, p<0.001, respectively). There was a statistically significant difference in favor of the endoscopic obesity treatment group (EOTG) in terms of pyloric disorder, HbA1c, and FPG levels between the EOTG and the normal weight group (NWG) (p<0.0001). CONCLUSION We recommend using PR as an easy-to-perform, effective, minimally invasive, reproducible, and cost-effective technique that does not require hospitalization.
