Abstract
AIMS Dietary inflammatory potential and genetic factors are reported as being linked to coronary heart disease (CHD). We aimed to investigate their joint association with CHD incidence. METHODS AND RESULTS We included 51 889 British participants from the UK Biobank who completed the 24-h dietary assessment at baseline. We used reduced rank regression and stepwise linear regression analyses to generate an empirical dietary inflammatory pattern (EDIP) score to assess dietary inflammatory potential. A polygenic risk score (PRS) for CHD was constructed based on 1.7 million genetic variants. During a median follow-up of 11 years, 1346 incident cases of CHD were observed. High EDIP scores significantly increased the risk of CHD with the hazard ratio (HR) [95% confidence interval (CI)] of 1.26 (1.10-1.45) for high EDIP scores (T3) compared with low EDIP scores (T1). Interestingly, we observed a gradient in the risk of CHD across PRS categories, with the HRs of 1.12 (95% CI: 0.73-1.71), 1.20 (95% CI: 1.01-1.43), and 1.42 (95% CI: 1.10-1.83) in low (Q1), intermediate (Q2-4), and high (Q5) PRS categories, respectively. When the joint effect was examined, individuals with high PRS (Q5) and high EDIP scores (T3) would have the highest risk of CHD with a HR of 3.87 (95% CI: 2.74-5.46) compared with individuals with both low PRS (Q1) and low EDIP scores. CONCLUSION High dietary inflammatory potential was associated with a higher CHD risk, especially in those with high PRS, suggesting that a comprehensive assessment of inflammatory diet and genetic factors may be beneficial in the prevention of CHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Pediatric cancer survivors are at greater risk of cardiometabolic complications than their peers. This study evaluates the preliminary impact of the VIE (Valorization, Implication, Education) intervention, which integrates nutrition, physical activity, and psychological support, on dietary intake and cardiometabolic health among children and adolescents during cancer treatment. METHODS This comparative study includes pediatric cancer patients recruited to either the VIE intervention group or a control group receiving standard care. Post-treatment data on dietary intake, anthropometric measures, blood pressure, and biochemical parameters were compared between groups and stratified by level of involvement in the nutritional intervention and age at diagnosis (children and adolescents). RESULTS In the intervention group, 45 participants were included (51.1% male, mean age at evaluation 10.2 ± 4.5 years, mean time since end of treatment of 1.3 ± 0.8 years), and the control group comprised 77 participants (44.2% male, mean age at evaluation 12.0 ± 5.6 years, mean time since end of treatment of 1.4 ± 0.8 years). The intervention group had lower total caloric intake (mean: 1759 ± 513 vs. 1997 ± 669 kcal, p = 0.042) and higher calcium intake (mean: 567 ± 240 vs. 432 ± 197 mg/1000 kcal, p = 0.001). The participants who were highly involved in the nutritional intervention had greater protein-derived energy intake than the controls (mean: 17 ± 5 vs. 15 ± 4%, p = 0.029). While there was a tendency for a lesser proportion of cardiometabolic risk factors in the adolescents from the intervention group, the differences did not reach statistical significance. CONCLUSIONS The VIE intervention improved some specific dietary intakes in the medium term after treatment completion but did not significantly impact cardiometabolic health outcomes. Additional strategies are needed to improve the diet of pediatric cancer patients, and further research is warranted to assess the long-term impact of such interventions.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease, intimately linked to dyslipidemia, is one of the leading global causes of mortality. Dyslipidaemia often presents as an elevated concentration of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and a decreased concentration of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Therefore, accurately measuring the levels of LDL and HDL particles is crucial for assessing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. However, conventional approaches can commonly quantify HDL/LDL particles by detecting cholesterol or protein molecules within them, which may fail to reflect the number of intact particles. In addition, these approaches are sometimes tedious and time-consuming, highlighting the need for a novel method for precise and effective identification of intact HDL and LDL particles. We have devised a technique that allows accurately and sensitively determining the levels of intact HDL and LDL in a sample without the need for isolation. This method relies on antibody-based immobilization and a self-priming hairpin-triggered Cas12a/crRNA signaling strategy. Based on the elegant design, this technique can be employed to directly and precisely measure the concentration of "actual" HDL and LDL particles, rather than the cholesterol content inside HDL and LDL. The approach has detection limits of 12.3 mg dL-1 and 5.4 mg dL-1 for HDL and LDL, respectively, and is also suitable for analyzing lipoproteins in clinical samples. Hence, this platform exhibits immense potential for clinical applications and health management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Homeostatic dysregulation (HD), the measure of aging-related physiological dysregulation, serves as an essential intervenable indicator of aging. OBJECTIVE To explore the associations of three healthy dietary patterns with HD, investigate the most recommended dietary patterns, and identify the significant beneficial and harmful food groups METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 8,288 participants aged 30-79 years from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (CMEC), with a female majority (61.6%). Dietary information was obtained through the baseline food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Three dietary patterns were constructed: Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), alternative Mediterranean diets (aMED), and Healthy Diet Score (HDS). HD was constructed based on clinical biomarkers and anthropometric measurements. Follow-up analyses adjusted for baseline data were employed to assess the longitudinal associations of three dietary patterns at baseline with HD at follow-up. Additionally, quantile G-computation was utilized to evaluate the relative contribution of each food group to the association with HD. RESULTS Over a follow-up period of 2.0 years, all healthy dietary patterns exhibited negative associations with HD, with βQ5/Q1 = -0.112, 95%CI (-0.172, -0.051) for HDS, with βQ5/Q1 = -0.073, 95%CI (-0.134, -0.012) for aMED, with βQ5/Q1 = -0.047, 95%CI (-0.107,0.014) for DASH. The results of the component analyses revealed that soybean products were the most significant beneficial food group (relative contribution of 24.0%), while alcohol was identified as the major harmful food group (relative contribution of 76.9%). CONCLUSION Healthy dietary patterns, especially HDS, are negatively associated with HD. Additionally, soybean products and alcohol are the most significant beneficial and detrimental food groups respectively. Developing appropriate nutritional strategies may help reduce the burden of disease and promote healthy aging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Lifestyle interventions such as dietary changes have been proposed to control the cardiometabolic risk factors and thus prevent cardiovascular (CV) disease (CVD). We performed an umbrella review to investigate whether different dietary patterns affect CV risk in individuals with at least one cardiometabolic risk factor (hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome) but not established CVD. METHODS We systematically searched the PubMed and Scopus databases (up to August 2024) for the systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Articles should be written in English and refer to a specific dietary pattern (such as Mediterranean diet, etc.). The population studied referred to adults with at least one cardiovascular (CV) risk factor. RESULTS From 4512 records identified, we finally included 25 meta-analyses with a total of 329 associations. Strong evidence for a benefit was found for LCD with reductions in BW [MD: -4.79 (95% CI -5.85, -3.72) kg, p ≤ 0.001], SBP [MD: -6.38 (95% CI -7.84, -4.93) mmHg, p ≤ 0.001], TG [WMD: -5.81 (95% CI -7.96, -3.66) mg/dL, p ≤ 0.001], and fasting plasma insulin [MD: -15.35 (95% CI -19.58, -11.12) pmol/L, p ≤ 0.001], as well as for low-GI diet for the reduction of BW [SMD: -0.66 (95% CI -0.90, -0.43) kg, p ≤ 0.001]. CONCLUSIONS Across many dietary patterns, LCD showed strong or highly suggestive evidence for a benefit on SBP, BW reduction, and lipid profile improvement. Secondarily, low-GI, DASH, and Portfolio and Nordic diets suggested beneficial effects on controlling CV risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of differences in daily physical activity patterns on blood lipids has not been determined. This study examines the effects of the differences in free-living daily physical activity patterns (amount and intensity) on blood lipid levels in older adults. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 51 older participants (71.8 ± 0.6 years, men = 8, women = 43). A triaxial accelerometer was used to assess physical activity patterns. The time from awakening to bedtime for each participant was used for group classification based on the amount (number of steps) and intensity (moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, MVPA) of physical activity. The morning step group (M Step) was defined as those who took more steps in the morning, and the afternoon step group (A Step) was defined as those who took more steps in the afternoon. The same method was used for MVPA (morning MVPA: M MVPA; afternoon MVPA: A MVPA). Blood samples were collected at the start of the study to determine blood lipid levels. RESULTS Number of steps taken showed a trend toward lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in the M Step group compared with the A Step group. The LDL/high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio was significantly lower in the M Step group than the A Step group (p < 0.05). The M MVPA group also had higher HDL-C levels and significantly lower LDL/HDL ratios than the A MVPA group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that compared with afternoon physical activity, daily morning physical activity (amount and intensity) is more effective in improving blood lipid levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Each day is made up of a composition of "time-use behaviors." These can be classified by their intensity (eg, light or moderate-vigorous physical activity [PA]) or domain (eg, chores, socializing). Intensity-based time-use behaviors are linked with cognitive function and cardiometabolic health in older adults, but it is unknown whether these relationships differ depending on the domain (or type/context) of behavior. METHODS This study included 397 older adults (65.5 ± 3.0 years, 69% female, 16.0 ± 3.0 years education) from Adelaide and Newcastle, Australia. Time-use behaviors were recorded using the Multimedia Activity Recall for Children and Adults, cognitive function was measured using the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III and Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, and waist-hip ratio were also recorded. Two 24-hour time-use compositions were derived from each participant's Multimedia Activity Recall for Children and Adults, including a 4-part intensity composition (sleep, sedentary behavior, light, and moderate-vigorous PA) and an 8-part domain composition (Sleep, Self-Care, Chores, Screen Time, Quiet Time, Household Administration, Sport/Exercise, and Social). RESULTS Linear regressions found significant associations between the domain composition and both Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III (p = .010) and waist-hip ratio (p = .009), and between the intensity composition and waist-hip ratio (p = .025). Isotemporal substitution modeling demonstrated that the domains of sedentary behaviors and PA impacted their associations with Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III, while any PA appeared beneficial for waist-hip ratio. CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest the domain of behavior should be considered when aiming to support cognitive function, whereas, for cardiometabolic health, it appears sufficient to promote any type of PA.

Abstract
Current cardiometabolic disease prevention guidelines recommend increasing dietary unsaturated fat intake while reducing saturated fats. Here we use lipidomics data from a randomized controlled dietary intervention trial to construct a multilipid score (MLS), summarizing the effects of replacing saturated fat with unsaturated fat on 45 lipid metabolite concentrations. In the EPIC-Potsdam cohort, a difference in the MLS, reflecting better dietary fat quality, was associated with a significant reduction in the incidence of cardiovascular disease (-32%; 95% confidence interval (95% CI): -21% to -42%) and type 2 diabetes (-26%; 95% CI: -15% to -35%). We built a closely correlated simplified score, reduced MLS (rMLS), and observed that beneficial rMLS changes, suggesting improved dietary fat quality over 10 years, were associated with lower diabetes risk (odds ratio per standard deviation of 0.76; 95% CI: 0.59 to 0.98) in the Nurses' Health Study. Furthermore, in the PREDIMED trial, an olive oil-rich Mediterranean diet intervention primarily reduced diabetes incidence among participants with unfavorable preintervention rMLS levels, suggestive of disturbed lipid metabolism before intervention. Our findings indicate that the effects of dietary fat quality on the lipidome can contribute to a more precise understanding and possible prediction of the health outcomes of specific dietary fat modifications.

Abstract
AIMS This study aims to identify a posteriori dietary patterns with a sex approach and to evaluate their association with metabolic syndrome criteria. METHODS Cross-sectional study conducted in 6821 men and women between 55 and 75 years of age. Forty-two food groups were analyzed from dietary information collected with food frequency questionnaires, using principal component analysis and cluster analysis and then information from both statistical methods was compared. Prevalences were calculated foreach cluster group, based on the number and types of metabolic syndrome criteria they met. RESULTS Following principal component analysis, two dietary patterns labeled "healthy" and "unhealthy" were identified in both men and women, due to the presence of foods that are considered more or less healthy. These same dietary patterns were found in cluster analysis plus an "intermediate" cluster consisting of both healthy and unhealthy foods. The presence of metabolic syndrome is related to the "healthy" dietary pattern in women and to the "unhealthy" dietary pattern in men. Comparison of the two statistical approaches showed a high level of correlation between them (weighted Kappa = 0.703 in women and weighted Kappa = 0.691 in men). CONCLUSIONS Adherence to both healthy and unhealthy dietary pattern appears to be related to the development of MS. The differences found by sex make it necessary to develop interventions with a sex-specific approach.

Abstract
Dyslipidemia is one of the cardiometabolic risk factors that influences mortality globally. Unraveling the causality between blood lipids and metabolites and the complex networks connecting lipids, metabolites, and other cardiometabolic traits can help to more accurately reflect the body's metabolic disorders and even cardiometabolic diseases. We conducted targeted metabolomics of 248 metabolites in 437 twins from the Chinese National Twin Registry. Inference about Causation through Examination of FAmiliaL CONfounding (ICE FALCON) analysis was used for causal inference between metabolites and lipid parameters. Bidirectional mediation analysis was performed to explore the linkages between blood lipids, metabolites, and other seven cardiometabolic traits. We identified 44, 1, and 31 metabolites associated with triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), most of which were gut microbiota-derived metabolites. There were 9, 1, and 14 metabolites that showed novel associations with TG, TC, and HDL-C, respectively. ICE FALCON analysis found that TG and HDL-C may have a predicted causal effect on 23 and six metabolites, respectively, and one metabolite may have a predicted causal effect on TG. Mediation analysis discovered 14 linkages connecting blood lipids, metabolites, and other cardiometabolic traits. Our study highlights the significance of gut microbiota-derived metabolites in lipid metabolism. Most of the identified cross-sectional associations may be due to the lipids having a predicted causal effect on metabolites, but not vice versa, nor are they due to family confounding. These findings shed new light on lipid metabolism and personalized management of cardiometabolic diseases.

Abstract
Introduction The association between a plant-based diet and weight loss and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) has not been fully elucidated. We performed a pooled analysis and Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate this question. Methods We searched for randomized controlled trials on the effects of a plant-based diet on weight loss compared with a non-plant-based diet. In addition, a two-sample MR study was conducted. IVs were obtained from the genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on the exposures, and we obtained summary statistics on the outcomes. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used as the main analysis and other MR methods were performed as supplementary analyses. Results Individuals on the plant-based diet lost more weight than the non-plant-based diet group (WMD -0.96 kg; 95% CI: -1.32 to -0.60). Population conditions and energy restriction were identified as the study-level factors that influenced the pooling results in the subgroup analyses. Increased consumption of raw vegetables was significantly associated with lower BMI (IVW, β -0.35, 95% CI: -0.62 to -0.08, p = 0.012) and lower risk of obesity (IVW, OR 0.11, 95% CI: 0.01 to 0.99, p = 0.048), coronary heart disease (IVW, OR 0.44, 95% CI: 0.21 to 0.92, p = 0.029) and myocardial infarction (IVW, OR 0.39,95% CI: 0.15 to 0.98, p = 0.045) and a higher HDL-C (IVW, β 0.47, 95% CI: 0.24 to 0.70, p = 4×10-5). Discussion The present findings suggest that raw vegetable intake is beneficial for weight loss and prevention of ASCVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Mediterranean diet has been linked to reduced risk for several cardiometabolic diseases. The lack of a clear definition of the Mediterranean diet in the scientific literature and the documented proliferation of nutrition misinformation on the internet suggest the potential for confusion among consumers seeking web-based Mediterranean diet information. OBJECTIVE We conducted a social media content analysis of information about the Mediterranean diet on the influential social media platform, TikTok, to examine public discourse about the diet and identify potential areas of misinformation. We then analyzed these findings in the context of health promotion to identify potential challenges and opportunities for the use of TikTok in promoting the Mediterranean diet for healthy living. METHODS The first-appearing 202 TikTok posts that resulted from a search of the hashtag #mediterraneandiet were downloaded and qualitatively examined. Post features and characteristics, poster information, and engagement metrics were extracted and synthesized across posts. Posts were categorized as those created by health professionals and those created by nonhealth professionals based on poster-reported credentials. In addition to descriptive statistics of the entire sample, we compared posts created by professionals and nonprofessionals for content using chi-square tests. RESULTS TikTok posts varied in content, but posts that were developed by health professionals versus nonprofessionals were more likely to offer a definition of the Mediterranean diet (16/106, 15.1% vs 2/96, 2.1%; P=.001), use scientific citations to support claims (26/106, 24.5% vs 0/96, 0%; P<.001), and discuss specific nutrients (33/106, 31.1% vs 6/96, 6.3%; P<.001) and diseases related to the diet (27/106, 25.5% vs 5/96, 5.2%; P<.001) compared to posts created by nonhealth professionals. CONCLUSIONS Social media holds promise as a venue to promote the Mediterranean diet, but the variability in information found in this study highlights the need to create clear definitions about the diet and its components when developing Mediterranean diet interventions that use new media structures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dietary habits have a strong association with body lipid levels and hyperlipidemia increases the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Dietary habits have been a major concern among medical students due to busy schedules and demanding tasks. This study was designed to know the dietary habits and lifestyle of medical students and its association with their lipid profile. METHODS We recruited 120 medical students at clerkship of the age of 18 and above. Weekly dietary habits were evaluated by an 18-item questionnaire. Five ml blood was drawn from the students and lipid profiles were measured at Dow Diagnostic Research and Reference Laboratory (DDRRL). Data was analyzed by SPSS V.22. RESULTS We found 70% of students were not involved in any physical activity throughout the week. Only 15.83% were following a regular diet plan. 65% of students were eating junk food for more than 3 days a week in their weekly diet. Moreover, 19.2%, 39.2%, 32.5%, and 25.84% of students were having their total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, and LDL levels above the optimum ranges respectively which were frequently found in students of final year (p < 0.05). There was high total cholesterol and LDL in males as compared to females (p value < 0.05). Total cholesterol and LDL were associated with skipped meal, use of junk food and carbonated drinks for more than 3 days a week (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION There was a notable number of students with poor dietary habits, inactive lifestyle and lipid levels above the optimum ranges defined by American Heart Association (AHA) that have an association with dietary habits. This is alarming and can impact the health of future healthcare workers. There is a need to investigate the factors and remedies to help medical students to follow a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract
Background: Evidence about the associations between Cantonese dietary patterns and mortality is scarce. We examined the prospective association of the dietary pattern with all-cause, cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in older Chinese. Methods: We included 19 598 participants of a Guangzhou Biobank cohort study aged 50+ years, who were recruited from 2003 to 2006 and followed up until July, 2022. The diet was assessed by using a 300-item validated food frequency questionnaire. The food items were collapsed into 27 food groups. Factor analysis (FA) was used to identify dietary patterns. Multivariable Cox regression produced hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for mortality. Results: During 305 410 person-years, 4966 deaths including 1971 CVD, 1565 cancer and 1436 other-causes occurred. Four dietary patterns were identified by FA. No association of the vegetable-based dietary pattern with all-cause, CVD and cancer mortality was found. Compared with the lowest quartile of the healthy Cantonese dietary pattern score, the highest quartile showed lower risks of all-cause (HR 0.86, 95% CI 0.80-0.94) and CVD mortality (HR 0.84, 95% CI 0.72-0.97). The highest quartile of the nut and fruit dietary pattern showed lower risks of all-cause (HR 0.92, 95% CI 0.85-0.99) and CVD mortality (HR 0.82, 95% CI 0.72-0.93), while the unhealthy western dietary pattern was associated with a higher risk of all-cause (HR 1.10, 95% CI 1.01-1.19) and cerebrovascular disease mortality (HR 1.28, 95% CI 1.03-1.58). Conclusion: We have first identified four dietary patterns based on the Cantonese cuisine and found that healthy Cantonese and nut and fruit dietary patterns were associated with lower risks of all-cause and CVD mortality, whereas the unhealthy western dietary pattern was associated with a higher risk of all-cause and cerebrovascular disease mortality.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a group of chronic health disorders prevalent worldwide that claim millions of lives yearly. Inflammation and oxidative stress are intricately associated with myocardial tissue damage, endothelial dysfunction, and increased odds of heart failure. Thus, dietary strategies aimed at decreasing the odds of CVDs are paramount. In this regard, the consumption of anthocyanins, natural pigments found in edible flowers, fruits, and vegetables, has attracted attention due to their potential to promote cardiovascular health. The main mechanisms of action linked with their protective effects on antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, serum lipid profile modulation, and other cardiovascular health parameters are explained and exemplified. However, little is known about the dose-dependency nature of the effects, which anthocyanin has better efficiency, and whether anthocyanin-containing foods display better in vivo efficacy than nutraceuticals (i.e., concentrated extracts containing higher levels of anthocyanins than foods). Thus, this systematic review focused on determining the effects of anthocyanin-containing foods and nutraceuticals on biomarkers associated with CVDs using animal studies and human interventions supported by in vitro mechanistic insights. Overall, the results showed that the regular consumption of anthocyanin-containing foods and nutraceuticals improved vascular function, lipid profile, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The daily dosage, the participants' health status, and the duration of the intervention also significantly influenced the results.

Abstract
This meta-analysis was undertaken to determine the predictive value of Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2015 in all-cause, cancer-cause, and cardiovascular disease (CVD)-cause mortality. This review was registered with PROSPERO as CRD42023421585. PubMed and Web of Science were searched for articles published by September 15, 2023. The hazard ratio (HR) was calculated with exact confidence intervals (CIs) of 95%. Statistical heterogeneity among studies was measured by Cochran's Q test (χ2) and the I2 statistic. Eighteen published studies were finally identified in this meta-analysis. The results showed that the HEI-2015 was associated with all-cause mortality either as a categorical variable (HR: 0.80; 95% CI: 0.79, 0.82) or continuous variable (HR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.88, 0.92). The HEI-2015 was also associated with cancer-cause mortality as categorical variable (HR: 0.81; 95% CI: 0.78, 0.83) or continuous variable (HR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.81, 0.99). The categorical HEI-2015 was also independently correlated with decreasing CVD-cause mortality (HR: 0.81; 95% CI: 0.75, 0.87). A nonlinear dose-response relation between the HEI-2015 and all-cause mortality was found. In the linear dose-response analysis, the risk of mortality from cancer decreased by 0.42% per 1 score increment of the HEI-2015 and the risk of CVD-cause mortality decreased by 0.51% with the increment of the HEI-2015 per 1 score. Our analysis indicated a significant relationship between the HEI-2015 and all-cause, cancer-cause, and CVD-cause mortality.

Abstract
The development of nanoparticles loaded with natural active ingredients is one of the hot trends in the pharmaceutical industry. Herein, chitosan was selected as the base material, and sodium tripolyphosphate was chosen as the cross-linking agent. Chitosan nanoparticles loaded with β-acids from hops were prepared by the ionic cross-linking method. The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicated that chitosan nanoparticles successfully encapsulated β-acids. The loading capacity of chitosan nanoparticles with β-acids was 2.00 %-18.26 %, and the encapsulation efficiency was 0.58 %-55.94 %. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), particle size, and zeta potential results displayed that the nanoparticles revealed a sphere-like distribution with a particle size range of 241-261 nm, and the potential exhibited positive potential (+14.47-+16.27 mV). The chitosan nanoparticles could slowly release β-acids from different simulated release media. Notably, the β-acids-loaded nanoparticles significantly inhibited Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923 (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli ATCC25922 (E. coli). Besides, β-acids-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were cytotoxic to colorectal cancer cells (HT-29 and HCT-116). Therefore, applying chitosan nanoparticles can further expand the application of β-acids in biomedical fields.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) still being the most common cause of death in worldwide. In spite of development of new lipid-lowering therapies which optimize low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) levels, recurrence of CVD events implies addressing factors related with residual cardiovascular (CV) risk. The key determinants of residual CV risk include triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) and remnant cholesterol (RC), lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and inflammation including its biochemical markers such as high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP). On the other hand, unhealthy lifestyle habits, environmental pollution, residual thrombotic risk and the residual metabolic risk determined by obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) have a specific weight in the residual CV risk. New pharmacologic therapies and pathways are being explored such as inhibition of apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III) and angiopoietin-related protein 3 (ANGPTL3) in order to explore if a reduction in TRLs and RC reduce CVD events. Therapeutic target of inflammation plays an attractive way to reduce the atherosclerotic process and to date, approved therapies as colchicine plays a beneficial effect in chronic inflammation and residual CV risk. Lp(a) constitutes one of the most residual CV risk factor due to linkage with CVD and aortic valve stenosis. New and hopeful treatments including antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) and small-interfering ribonucleic acid (siRNA) which interfere in LP(a) codification have been developed to achieve an adequate control in Lp(a) levels. This review points out the paradigms of residual CV risk, discus how we should manage their features and summarize the different therapies targeting each residual CV risk factor.

Abstract
Background The Healthy Eating Index (HEI) and Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) are instruments developed by competing American research teams, aiming to assess the level of adherence to a dietary pattern, claimed to prevent chronic illness conditions such as dyslipidemia. This systematic review evaluated cross-sectional studies examining the association between HEI/AHEI score and the lipid profile in healthy participants. Methods The systematic review was Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) compliant, and a search process was conducted through Scopus, Web of Knowledge, Google Scholar, Cochrane, PubMed, and ScienceDirect up to November 2022. Studies assessing the relationship between HEI/AHEI and lipid profile (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglyceride (TG)) were eligible for inclusion. The statistical differences in outcomes, anthropometric indices, and demographic data were extracted from the selected studies. Also, the quality assessment of studies was performed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Results The systematic search presented 17 cross-sectional studies. Most of the studies revealed a significant correlation between HEI score and lipid profile (LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, and TC) (P < 0.05), while a few of them indicated a significant relationship between AHEI score and these factors. Overall, the elevation of HEI/AHEI score was associated with the improvement in lipid profile (P < 0.05), though this association was more obvious for HEI compared with AHEI. Conclusions Overall, the results of the study indicated that an improved lipid profile in healthy individuals is associated with a higher score in either HEI or AHEI. Further research in the future is required to confirm the claim.

Abstract
Proinflammatory M1 macrophages are critical for the progression of atherosclerosis. The Par3-like protein (Par3L) is a homolog of the Par3 family involved in cell polarity establishment. Par3L has been shown to maintain the stemness of mammary stem cells and promote the survival of colorectal cancer cells. In this study, we investigated the roles of the polar protein Par3L in M1 macrophage polarization and atherosclerosis. To induce atherosclerosis, Apoe-/- mice were fed with an atherosclerotic Western diet for 8 or 16 weeks. We showed that Par3L expression was significantly increased in human and mouse atherosclerotic plaques. In primary mouse macrophages, oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL, 50 μg/mL) time-dependently increased Par3L expression. In Apoe-/- mice, adenovirus-mediated Par3L overexpression aggravated atherosclerotic plaque formation accompanied by increased M1 macrophages in atherosclerotic plaques and bone marrow. In mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) or peritoneal macrophages (PMs), we revealed that Par3L overexpression promoted LPS and IFNγ-induced M1 macrophage polarization by activating p65 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) rather than p38 and JNK signaling. Our results uncover a previously unidentified role for the polarity protein Par3L in aggravating atherosclerosis and favoring M1 macrophage polarization, suggesting that Par3L may serve as a potential therapeutic target for atherosclerosis.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has become a worldwide public health problem. Epimedin C is considered one of the most important flavonoids in Epimedium, a famous edible herb in China and Southeast Asia that is traditionally used in herbal medicine to treat diabetes. In the present study, the therapeutic potential of epimedin C against T2DM was ascertained using a mouse model, and the mechanism underlying the hypoglycemic activity of epimedin C was explored using a label-free proteomic technique for the first time. Levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and oral glucose tolerance, as well as contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in the 30 mg·kg-1 epimedin C group (EC30 group), were significantly lower than those in the model control group (MC group) (p < 0.05), while the contents of hepatic glycogen, insulin, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), as well as activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the EC30 group were notably higher than those in the MC group (p < 0.05). The structures of liver cells and tissues were greatly destroyed in the MC group, whereas the structures of cells and tissues were basically complete in the EC30 group, which were similar to those in the normal control group (NC group). A total of 92 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were enriched in the gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. In the EC30 vs. MC groups, the expression level of cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (Pck1) was down-regulated, while the expression levels of group XIIB secretory phospholipase A2-like protein (Pla2g12b), apolipoprotein B-100 (Apob), and cytochrome P450 4A14 (Cyp4a14) were up-regulated. According to the KEGG pathway assay, Pck1 participated in the gluconeogenesis and insulin signaling pathways, and Pla2g12b, Apob, and Cyp4a14 were the key proteins in the fat digestion and fatty acid degradation pathways. Pck1, Pla2g12b, Apob, and Cyp4a14 seemed to play important roles in the prevention and treatment of T2DM. In summary, epimedin C inhibited Pck1 expression to maintain FBG at a relatively stable level, promoted Pla2g12b, Apob, and Cyp4a14 expressions to alleviate liver lipotoxicity, and protected liver tissues and cells from oxidant stress possibly by its phenolic hydroxyl groups.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the relationship of early pregnancy maternal diet quality (DQ) with maternal plasma lipids and indicators of cardiometabolic health, including blood pressure (BP), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and gestational weight gain (GWG). METHODS Women (n = 215) aged 18-40 years with singleton pregnancies were recruited at 10-20 weeks gestation. Diet quality was assessed by the Dietary Guideline Index, calculated at early ([mean ± SD]) (15 ± 3 weeks) and late (35 ± 2 weeks) pregnancy. Lipidomic analysis was performed, and 698 species across 37 lipid classes were measured from plasma blood samples collected at early (15 ± 3 weeks) and mid (27 ± 3 weeks)-pregnancy. Clinical measures (BP, GDM diagnosis, weight) and blood samples were collected across pregnancy. Multiple linear and logistic regression models assessed associations of early pregnancy DQ with plasma lipids at early and mid-pregnancy, BP at three antenatal visits, GDM diagnosis and total GWG. RESULTS Maternal DQ scores ([mean ± SD]) decreased significantly from early (70.7 ± 11.4) to late pregnancy (66.5 ± 12.6) (p < 0.0005). At a false discovery rate of 0.2, early pregnancy DQ was significantly associated with 13 plasma lipids at mid-pregnancy, including negative associations with six triglycerides (TGs); TG(54:0)[NL-18:0] (neutral loss), TG(50:1)[NL-14:0], TG(48:0)[NL-18:0], TG(52:1)[NL-18:0], TG(54:1)[NL-18:1], TG(50:0)[NL-18:0]. No statistically significant associations were found between early pregnancy DQ and BP, GDM or GWG. CONCLUSION Maternal diet did not adhere to Australian Dietary Guidelines. Diet quality was inversely associated with multiple plasma TGs. This study provides novel insights into the relationship between DQ, lipid biomarkers and cardiometabolic health during pregnancy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Several research has considered the potential correlation between periodontitis and serum lipids. However, serum lipid profiles correlation with periodontitis remains largely unknown. The investigation objective was to examine periodontitis correlation with serum lipid levels using a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. METHODS The study employed a bidirectional MR analysis with two samples, utilizing a freely accessible genome-wide association study (GWAS). Furthermore, the primary analysis employed the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method. To determine whether the lipid profiles were associated with periodontitis, a variety of sensitivity analyses (including MR-Egger regression, MR-PRESSO, and weighted median), as well as multivariable MR, were employed. RESULTS MR analysis performed by IVW did not reveal any relationship between periodontitis and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides (TG), or total cholesterol (TC). It was also found that LDL, HDL, TG, and TC were not associated to periodontitis. Furthermore, the MR estimations exhibited consistency with other MR sensitivity and multivariate MR (MVMR) analyses. These results show that the correlation between serum lipid levels and periodontitis could not be established. CONCLUSION The finding indicates a negligible link between periodontitis and serum lipid levels were identified, despite previous observational studies reporting a link between periodontitis and serum lipid levels.

Abstract
Previous studies have highlighted the role of lifestyle on HDL-C concentrations in adults. To our knowledge, the health and nutritional status of emerging adults have been understudied. The present study aimed to explore the most important lifestyle factors, including micronutrient intake adequacy and the percentage of energy from food processing, according to HDL-C concentrations in emerging adults. In this context, a cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 261 Mexican emerging adults who were apparently healthy. Lifestyle factors were collected through a structured survey and the prevalence of micronutrient intake inadequacy was estimated using the estimated average requirement cut-point method. The percentage of energy from ultra-processed foods was assessed using the NOVA system. HDL-C was determined using the enzymatic colorimetric method. Statistical analyses were conducted in SPSS. The results revealed that lifestyle factors do not differ according to HDL-C status. The participants showed a poor nutritional diet that was energy-dense and micronutrient-inadequate. Nearly half of their energy came from processed and ultra-processed foods. Most participants did not meet the recommendations for key nutrients (ϖ3 fatty acids and phytosterols) that promote a healthy lipid status. In conclusion, regardless of their HDL-C levels, emerging adults exhibited lifestyle-related risk factors. The persistence of these findings over time could contribute to the development of metabolic disorders in the future. It is crucial to increase understanding and to develop effective nutritional interventions during this critical phase of life.

Abstract
Introduction Aim: to investigate the effects of low sodium formula salt combined with the Chinese Modified Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet on cerebrovascular function in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Methods: an eight-week single-arm trial was conducted in 66 patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes to investigate effects of low sodium formula salt (potassium chloride 56 %, sodium chloride 23 %, 5 g/day) combined with Chinese Modified DASH diet on cerebrovascular function (measured by transcranial Doppler sonography), indicators of chronic diseases (blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipids) and urinary excretion. The above indicators were performed before and after intervention. Results: fifty-nine subjects completed the study. Peak systolic velocity, mean flow velocity, end-diastolic velocity, pulsatility index and resistance index of internal cerebral artery and vertebral artery decreased significantly (p < 0.05); pulsatility index and resistance index of anterior cerebral artery and middle cerebral artery decreased significantly (p < 0.05); and end-diastolic velocity and pulsatility index of basilar artery decreased significantly (p < 0.05). Systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose decreased significantly (p < 0.001; p < 0.001; p < 0.001; p < 0.001). Blood pressure and blood glucose control rates increased significantly (p < 0.001). Conclusions: based on the study, 23 % low-sodium formula combined with CM-DASH diet pattern can improve cerebrovascular function in community patients with hypertension complicated with diabetes and has a good short-term benefit of blood pressure and glucose control.

Abstract
Aims: convincing evidence is still limited for the validation of associations between the inflammatory potential of diets, based on the dietary inflammatory index (DII), and cardiometabolic outcomes. We aimed to investigate the associations between the DII with adherence to plant-based dietary patterns and the risk of new-onset cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs), including stroke, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and myocardial infarction (MI). Methods: adults (N = 14 652) from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (1997-2015) were included in the current analysis. Dietary intake data were collected using a combination of 3 day consecutive 24 h dietary recalls and the food weighing method. The DII was calculated with established and validated methods. CMDs were identified using validated self-reported questionnaires. The Cox proportional hazard regression model was used for statistical analysis. Results: during a mean follow-up of 10 years, a total of 404 new-onset stroke, 1051 new-onset T2DM and 280 new-onset MI cases were identified. Lower PDI, hPDI, ERD, WISH and PHDI scores and higher uPDI scores were associated with higher DII scores (all P-trend < 0. 0001). A pro-inflammatory diet, as reflected by relatively higher DII scores, was positively associated with an increased risk of stroke (Q5 vs. Q1: HR = 1.90; 95% CI: 1.26-2.88; P-trend = 0.0006), T2DM (Q5 vs. Q1: HR = 2.08; 95% CI: 1.61-2.69; P-trend < 0.0001) and MI (Q5 vs. Q1: HR = 1.70; 95% CI: 1.04-2.76; P-trend = 0.0114) in the entire cohort. Sex and BMI significantly modified the association between the DII and the risk of T2DM, and sex significantly modified the association between the DII and the risk of MI. Conclusions: lower adherence to healthy and sustainable plant-based dietary patterns and higher adherence to unhealthy plant-based dietary patterns were associated with higher DII scores. With the use of the DII, we reported long-term positive associations between a pro-inflammatory diet and an increased risk of new-onset stroke, T2DM and MI in Chinese adults who were free from CMDs and cancer at the baseline. These findings provided evidence for the validation of associations between the DII and cardiometabolic health, and contributed to the current literature suggesting careful evaluations of whether the DII should be incorporated into dietary guidelines and utilized as an effective tool for improving the diet quality and CMD prevention in the Chinese population.

Abstract
Hypertension remains the main cause of cardiovascular complications leading to increased mortality. The discoveries of recent years underline the important role of endothelial dysfunction (ED) in initiating the development of arterial hypertension. The endothelium lines the interior of the entire vascular system in the body and acts as a physical barrier between blood and tissues. Substances and mediators produced by the endothelium exhibit antithrombotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Oxidative stress and inflammation are conditions that damage the endothelium and shift endothelial function from vasoprotective to vasoconstrictive, prothrombotic, and pro-apoptotic functions. A dysfunctional endothelium contributes to the development of hypertension and further cardiovascular complications. Reduced nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability plays an essential role in the pathophysiology of ED-associated hypertension. New technologies provide tools to identify pathological changes in the structure and function of the endothelium. Endothelial dysfunction (ED) contributes to the development of arterial hypertension and should be considered in therapeutic strategies for children with hypertension.

Abstract
Food-based dietary guidelines (FBDG) need to be evidence-based. As part of the development of Ethiopian FBDG, we conducted an umbrella review to develop dietary recommendations. Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM), deficiencies of vitamin A, zinc, calcium, or folate, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were selected as a priority. Systematic reviews were eligible if they investigated the impact of foods, food groups, diet, or dietary patterns on priority diseases. After a search, 1513 articles were identified in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar published from January 2014 to December 2021. The results showed that 19 out of 164 systematic reviews reported the impact of diet on PEM or micronutrient deficiencies. Daily 30-90 g whole-grain consumption reduces risk of CVD and T2DM. Pulses improve protein status, and consuming 50-150 g/d is associated with a reduced incidence of CVD and T2DM. Nuts are a good source of minerals, and consuming 15-35 g/d improves antioxidant status and is inversely associated with CVD risk. A daily intake of 200-300 mL of milk and dairy foods is a good source of calcium and contributes to bone mineral density. Limiting processed meat intake to <50 g/d reduces CVD risk. Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins A and C. CVD and T2DM risks are reduced by consuming 200-300 g of vegetables plus fruits daily. Daily sugar consumption should be below 10% of total energy to lower risk of obesity, CVD, and T2DM. Plant-based fat has favorable nutrient profiles and modest saturated fat content. The association of saturated fatty acids with CVD and T2DM is inconclusive, but intake should be limited because of the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol-raising effect. Plant-based diets lower risk of CVD and T2DM but reduce micronutrient bioavailability. The review concludes with 9 key dietary recommendations proposed to be implemented in the Ethiopian FBDG. Abstract
Low-carbohydrate high-fat (LCHF) diets can be just as effective as high-carbohydrate, lower-fat (HCLF) diets for improving cardiovascular disease risk markers. Few studies have compared the effects of the UK HCLF dietary guidelines with an LCHF diet on lipids and lipoprotein metabolism using high-throughput NMR spectroscopy. This study aimed to explore the effect of an ad libitum 8-week LCHF diet compared to an HCLF diet on lipids and lipoprotein metabolism and CVD risk factors. For 8 weeks, n = 16 adults were randomly assigned to follow either an LCHF (n = 8, <50 g CHO p/day) or an HCLF diet (n = 8). Fasted blood samples at weeks 0, 4, and 8 were collected and analysed for lipids, lipoprotein subclasses, and energy-related metabolism markers via NMR spectroscopy. The LCHF diet increased (p < 0.05) very small VLDL, IDL, and large HDL cholesterol levels, whereas the HCLF diet increased (p < 0.05) IDL and large LDL cholesterol levels. Following the LCHF diet alone, triglycerides in VLDL and HDL lipoproteins significantly (p < 0.05) decreased, and HDL phospholipids significantly (p < 0.05) increased. Furthermore, the LCHF diet significantly (p < 0.05) increased the large and small HDL particle concentrations compared to the HCLF diet. In conclusion, the LCHF diet may reduce CVD risk factors by reducing triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and improving HDL functionality.

Abstract
Chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia are important risk factors in developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, such as coronary heart disease. Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is one of the most dangerous syndromes in coronary heart disease. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is considered equal to coronary heart disease owing to the high cardiac risk induced by chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia. The neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) is a novel and straightforward marker that reflects inflammation and lipid metabolic disorder. However, few studies have been on the role of NHR in assessing the risk of ACS in T2DM patients. Here we analyzed NHR level in ACS patients with T2DM, exploring its predictive and diagnostic values. 211 hospitalized ACS patients with T2DM were recruited as the case group, and 168 hospitalized T2DM patients as the control group (all patients collected from 6/2020 to 12/2021 in Xiangya Hospital). Biochemical test results and echocardiograms, as well as demographic information such as age, BMI, diabetes mellitus, smoking, drinking, and history of hypertension, were recorded. Frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations were used to describe the data. The shapiro-Wilk test was used to assess the normality of the data. Normally distributed data were compared using the independent sample T-test, and non-normally distributed data were compared using Mann-Whitney U test. Correlation analysis was performed using the Spearman rank correlation test, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and multivariable logistic regression analysis were performed by SPSS version 24.0 (SPSS Inc) and GraphPad Prism 9.0 (GraphPad Software Inc). p < 0.05 was considered significant. In the study population, NHR was higher in patients with T2DM combined with ACS than in T2DM patients without ACS (p < 0.001). After adjusting for BMI, alcohol consumption, and history of hypertension, multifactorial logistic regression analysis revealed that NHR is a risk factor for T2DM patients combined with ACS (OR 1.221, p = 0.0126). Correlation analysis on all ACS patients with T2DM showed that NHR level was positively correlated with cTnI (r = 0.437, p < 0.001), CK (r = 0.258, p = 0.001), CK-Mb (r = 0.447, p < 0.001), LDH (r = 384, p < 0.001), Mb (r = 0.320, p < 0.001), LA (r = 0.168, p = 0.042) and LV levels (r = 0.283, p = 0.001). And meanwhile, NHR level was negatively correlated with EF (r = - 0.327, p < 0.001) and FS levels (r = - 0.347, p < 0.001). ROC curve analysis showed that NHR ≧ 4.32 had a sensitivity of 65.45% and a specificity of 66.19% for predicting ACS in T2DM patients [area under the curve (AUC) = 0.722, p < 0.001]. Furthermore, in all ACS patients with T2DM, the diagnostic power of NHR was stronger in ST-segment elevated ACS patients (STE-ACS) than that in non-ST-segment elevated ACS patients (NSTE-ACS) (p < 0.001). With its convenience and effective character, NHR could be a potential and new marker for predicting the presence, progression, and severity of ACS in T2DM population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to simultaneously explore the associations of major dietary patterns (DP) with lipid profiles and the associations of these profiles with general and central obesity risks and to evaluate the extent to which the metabolites mediate such associations. METHODS Habitual food consumption of 4778 participants with an average age of 47.0 from the China Kadoorie Biobank was collected using a 12-item food frequency questionnaire. Plasma samples were analyzed via targeted nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to quantify 129 lipid-related metabolites. Anthropometric information was measured by trained staff. RESULTS Two DPs were derived by factor analysis. The newly affluent southern pattern was characterized by high intakes of rice, meat, poultry, and fish, whereas the balanced pattern was characterized by consuming meat, poultry, fish, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, dairy, eggs, and soybean. The newly affluent southern pattern was positively associated with 45 metabolites, which were positively associated with risks of obesity at the same time. The global lipid profile potentially explained 30.9%, 34.7%, and 53.1% of the effects of this DP on general obesity, waist circumference-defined central obesity, and waist-hip ratio-defined central obesity, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The newly affluent southern pattern points to an altered lipid profile, which showed higher general and central obesity risks. These findings partly suggest the biological mechanism for the obesogenic effects of this DP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atherogenic dyslipidaemia (AD) and lipid triad (LT) are characterised by high triglyceride levels together with low HDL and normal or high LDL cholesterol and are favoured by a persistent state of insulin resistance (IR), which increases the release of free fatty acids from abdominal adipose tissue. This alteration in the lipid profile favours the accelerated development of atherosclerosis, which is the most important cause of morbidity and mortality in all countries in the developed and developing world. One of the elements that plays a major role in the genesis of AD is IR. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between variables that assess atherogenic risk (AD and LT) and scales that assess the risk of presenting insulin resistance. METHODS A descriptive cross-sectional study of 418,343 workers was conducted to evaluate atherogenic dyslipidaemia and lipid triad; a relationship with three insulin resistance risk scales (Triglycerides/HDL, TyG index, METS-IR) was established. The usefulness of IR risk scales for predicting AD and LT was calculated by applying ROC curves, obtaining the area under the curve (AUC) and cut-off points with their sensitivity, specificity, and Youden index. Multivariate analysis was performed by binary logistic regression. RESULTS The prevalence of high-risk values for insulin resistance with all of the scales is much higher in people with AD and LT compared to those without. The ROC curves present us with an AUC with the three insulin resistance risk scales for the two dyslipidaemias studied with figures ranging between 0.856 and 0.991, which implies that the results are good/very good. CONCLUSIONS A relationship between atherogenic dyslipidaemia and the three insulin resistance risk scales assessed is revealed, with higher IR mean values and prevalence in people with atherogenic dyslipidaemia and lipid triad. The three scales make it possible to adequately classify the presence of AD and LT. The highest AUC is presented by the triglycerides/HDL scale, with a result close to 1. METS-IR is the most recommended formula to estimate insulin resistance.

Abstract
Growing evidence suggests that red meat consumption is a risk factor for cardiovascular health, with potential sex disparity. The metabolic mechanisms have not been fully understood. Using the UK Biobank, first we examined the associations of unprocessed red meat and processed meat with ischemic heart disease (IHD) mortality overall and by sex using logistic regression. Then, we examined the overall and sex-specific associations of red meat consumption with metabolites using multivariable regression, as well as the associations of selected metabolites with IHD mortality using logistic regression. We further selected metabolic biomarkers that are linked to both red meat consumption and IHD, with concordant directions. Unprocessed red meat and processed meat consumption was associated with higher IHD mortality overall and in men. Thirteen metabolites were associated with both unprocessed red meat and IHD mortality overall and showed a consistent direction, including triglycerides in different lipoproteins, phospholipids in very small very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), docosahexaenoic acid, tyrosine, creatinine, glucose, and glycoprotein acetyls. Ten metabolites related to triglycerides and VLDL were positively associated with both unprocessed red meat consumption and IHD mortality in men, but not in women. Processed meat consumption showed similar results with unprocessed red meat. Triglycerides in lipoproteins, fatty acids, and some nonlipid metabolites may play a role linking meat consumption to IHD. Triglycerides and VLDL-related lipid metabolism may contribute to the sex-specific associations. Sex differences should be considered in dietary recommendations.

Abstract
Pediatric cancer survivors may experience cardiometabolic sequelae over the course of their lives as a result of the treatments they have received. While nutrition consists of an actionable target for cardiometabolic health, few nutritional interventions have been documented in this population. This study assessed the changes in diet during a one-year nutritional intervention for children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatments and the participants’ anthropometric and cardiometabolic profiles. A total of 36 children and adolescents (mean age: 7.9 years, 52.8% male) newly diagnosed with cancer (50% leukemia) and their parents underwent a one-year individualized nutrition intervention. The mean number of follow-up visits with the dietitian during the intervention was 4.72 ± 1.06. Between the initial and one-year assessments, there was an improvement in diet quality reflected by the Diet Quality Index (5.22 ± 9.95, p = 0.003). Similarly, the proportion of participants with moderate and good adherence (vs. low adherence) to the Healthy Diet Index score almost tripled after one year of intervention (14% vs. 39%, p = 0.012). In parallel, there was an increase in the mean z-scores for weight (0.29 ± 0.70, p = 0.019) and BMI (0.50 ± 0.88, p = 0.002), and in the mean levels of HDL-C (0.27 ± 0.37 mmol/L, p = 0.002) and 25-hydroxy vitamin D (14.5 ± 28.1 mmol/L, p = 0.03). Overall, this study supports that a one-year nutritional intervention deployed early after a pediatric cancer diagnosis is associated with an improvement in the diets of children and adolescents.

Abstract
Dyslipidemia is one of the known risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and its prevalence is increasing worldwide. At present, the study of dyslipidemia has gradually shifted from simple environmental or genetic factors to environment-gene interactions. In order to further explore the etiology and mechanism of dyslipidemia, we used occupational stress(OS) and LYPLAL1, APOC3 and SOD2 gene as research variables to explore their association with dyslipidemia.Here we used a case-control study to include Han workers from a coal mining enterprise in China to determine the association between study variables and dyslipidemia. Monofactor analysis showed that smoking, drinking, physical activity level, DASH diet score, sleep quality, BMI, hypertension, hyperuricemia, shift work, OS were significantly different between the two groups (P < 0.05). In the APOC3 rs2854116 dominant model, patients with CT/CC genotype had a higher risk of dyslipidemia than those with TT genotype. In SOD2 rs4880 recessive model, patients with GG genotype had a lower risk of dyslipidemia than those with AA/AG genotype, and the difference was statistically significant. We found that rs12137855 and OS, rs2854116 and OS, rs4880 and OS had joint effects, but no interaction based on the multiplication and addition model was found (Pinteraction > 0.05). GMDR model showed that the rs12137855-rs2854116-rs4880-OS four-factor model had the highest cross-validation consistency and training-validation accuracy (P < 0.05), suggesting that there was a high-order interaction between them associated with dyslipidemia. We found that dyslipidemia in coal miners was related to OS and genetic factors. Through this study, we revealed the dual regulation of environmental factors and genetic factors on dyslipidemia. At the same time, this study provides clues for understanding the etiology and mechanism of dyslipidemia.

Abstract
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is still one kind of the infectious diseases that seriously threaten human health. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. HBV infection complicated with NAFLD is increasingly common. This review mainly describes the interaction between HBV infection and NAFLD, the interaction between steatosis and antiviral drugs, and the prognosis of HBV infection complicated with NAFLD. Most studies suggest that HBV infection may reduce the incidence of NAFLD. NAFLD can promote the spontaneous clearance of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), but whether it affects antiviral efficacy has been reported inconsistently. HBV infection combined with NAFLD can promote the progression of liver fibrosis, especially in patients with severe steatosis. The outcome of HBV infection combined with NAFLD predisposing to the progression of HCC remains controversial.

Abstract
Resveratrol is a polyphenol with a well-established beneficial effect on dyslipidemia and hyperuricemia in preclinical experiments. Nonetheless, its efficacy and dose-response relationship in clinical trials remains unclear. This study examined whether resveratrol supplement improves the serum lipid profile and other metabolic markers in a dose-response manner in individuals with dyslipidemia. A total of 168 subjects were randomly assigned to placebo (n = 43) and resveratrol treatment groups of 100 mg/d (n = 41), 300 mg/d (n = 43), and 600 mg/d (n = 41). Anthropometric and biochemical parameters were analyzed at baseline and 4 and 8 weeks. Resveratrol supplementation for 8 weeks did not significantly change the lipid profile compared with the placebo. However, a significant decrease of serum uric acid was observed at 8 weeks in 300 mg/d (-23.60 ± 61.53 μmol/L, p < 0.05) and 600 mg/d resveratrol groups (-24.37 ± 64.24 μmol/L, p < 0.01) compared to placebo (8.19 ± 44.60 μmol/L). Furthermore, xanthine oxidase (XO) activity decreased significantly in the 600 mg/d resveratrol group (-0.09 ± 0.29 U/mL, p < 0.05) compared with placebo (0.03 ± 0.20 U/mL) after 8 weeks. The reduction of uric acid and XO activity exhibited a dose-response relationship (p for trend, <0.05). Furthermore, a marked correlation was found between the changes in uric acid and XO activity in the resveratrol groups (r = 0.254, p < 0.01). Resveratrol (10 μmol/L) treatment to HepG2 cells significantly reduced the uric acid levels and intracellular XO activity. Nevertheless, we failed to detect significant differences in glucose, insulin, or oxidative stress biomarkers between the resveratrol groups and placebo. In conclusion, resveratrol supplementation for 8 weeks had no significant effect on lipid profile but decreased uric acid in a dose-response manner, possibly due to XO inhibition in subjects with dyslipidemia. The trial was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04886297).

Abstract
Particulate matter (PM) exposure is associated to the adverse change in blood lipids. Vitamin D is beneficial to lipid metabolism, but whether vitamin D levels modifies the impact of air pollutants on lipids is unclear. The purpose of the study was to investigate if vitamin D modifies the associations of PM and serum lipids in young healthy people. From December 2017 to January 2018, a panel study with five once weekly follow-ups was conducted on 88 healthy adults aged 21.09 (1.08) (mean (SD)) years on average in Guangzhou, China. We measured serum lipids, serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations (440 blood samples in total), mass concentrations of particulate matter with diameters ≤2.5 μm (PM2.5), ≤1.0 μm (PM1.0), and ≤0.5 μm (PM0.5), and number concentrations of particulate matter with diameters ≤0.2 μm (PN0.2) and ≤0.1 μm (PN0.1) at each follow-up. Linear mixed-effect models were applied to assess the interaction of vitamin D and size-fractionated PM short-term exposure on four lipid metrics. We found the interactions between 25(OH)D and size-fractionated PM exposure on blood lipids in different lags (lag 3 days and 4 days). An interquartile range increase in PM2.5, PM1.0, PM0.5 were significantly associated with increments of 12.30%, 12.99%, and 13.66% in triglycerides (TGs) at lag 4 days at vitamin D levels <15 ng/mL group, respectively. Similar results were found for PN0.2, PN0.1 and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). All the associations between size-fractionated PM and blood lipids were found null statistically significant in vitamin D levels ≥15 ng/mL group.

Abstract
Introduction Protein restriction during lactation can induce metabolic dysfunctions and has a huge impact on the offspring's phenotype later in its life. We tested whether the effects of a maternal low-protein diet (LP) in rats can be transmitted to the F2 generation and increase their vulnerability to dietary insults in adulthood. Methods Female Wistar rats (F0) were fed either a low-protein diet (LP; 4% protein) during the first 2 weeks of lactation or a normal-protein diet (NP; 23% protein). The female offspring (F1 generation) were maintained on a standard diet throughout the experiment. Once adulthood was reached, female F1 offspring from both groups (i.e., NP-F1 and LP-F1) were bred to proven males, outside the experiment, to produce the F2 generation. Male F2 offspring from both groups (NP-F2 and LP-F2 groups) received a standard diet until 60 days old, at which point they received either a normal fat (NF; 4.5% fat) or a high fat diet (HF; 35% fat) for 30 days. Results At 90 days old, LPNF-F2 offspring had increased lipogenesis and fasting insulinemia compared to NPNF-F2, without alteration in insulin sensitivity. HF diet caused increased gluconeogenesis and displayed glucose intolerance in LPHF-F2 offspring compared to LPNF-F2 offspring. Additionally, the HF diet led to damage to lipid metabolism (such as steatosis grade 3), higher body weight, fat pad stores, and hepatic lipid content. Discussion We concluded that an F0 maternal protein restricted diet during lactation can induce a transgenerational effect on glucose and liver metabolism in the F2 generation, making the offspring's liver more vulnerable to nutritional injury later in life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES A Mediterranean lifestyle may prevent and mitigate cardiometabolic disorders. We explored whether adherence to a Mediterranean lifestyle was prospectively associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) among coronary heart disease (CHD) patients. METHODS The Coronary Diet Intervention with Olive Oil and Cardiovascular Prevention (CORDIOPREV) study was an interventional diet study to compare a Mediterranean diet with a low-fat diet, in 1002 CHD patients. The Mediterranean lifestyle (MEDLIFE) index was used to assess adherence to a MEDLIFE at baseline, and after 5 years, in 851 participants from the CORDIOPREV study. Subjects were classified as having high (>13 points), moderate (12-13 points), and low (<12 points) adherence to the MEDLIFE. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to determine the association between MEDLIFE adherence and the risk of MetS development or reversal. RESULTS During the 5-year follow-up, CORDIOPREV participants with high adherence to MEDLIFE had a lower risk of MetS development (odds ratio [OR] 0.37, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.19-0.75, p < 0.01) and a higher likelihood of reversing preexisting MetS (OR 2.08 CI 95% 1.11-3.91, p = 0.02) compared with participants in the low MEDLIFE adherence group. Each additional one-point increment in the MEDLIFE index was associated with a 24% lower risk of MetS development (OR 0.76, 95% CI 0.64-0.90, p < 0.01) and a 21% higher likelihood of reversing preexisting MetS (OR 1.21 CI 95% 1.04-1.41, p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Our results showed that greater adherence to a MEDLIFE reduced the risk of subsequent MetS development and increased the likelihood of reversing preexisting MetS among patients with CHD at baseline.

Abstract
Globally, dyslipidemia is now become a leading risk factor for many adverse health outcomes, especially in the middle-aged and elderly. Recent evidence suggests that exposure to greenness and the relief of a psychological burden may decrease the prevalence of dyslipidemia. The objective of our study was to examine whether a green space can moderate the association between mental health status and dyslipidemia. Our study selected the datasets of depression symptoms, dyslipidemia from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), and the satellite-based normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) from the 30 m annual maximum NDVI dataset in China in 2018. Ultimately, a total of 10,022 middle-aged and elderly Chinese were involved in our study. Multilevel logistic regressions were performed to examine the association between symptoms of depression and dyslipidemia, as well as the moderate effect of greenness exposure on the association. Our research suggested that adults diagnosed with depression symptoms were more likely to suffer from dyslipidemia. In addition, the NDVI was shown to moderate the effect of depression on dyslipidemia significantly, though the effect was attenuated as depression increased. Regarding the moderate effect of the NDVI on the above association across age, gender, and residence, the findings presented that females, the elderly, and respondents living in urban areas were at a greater risk of having dyslipidemia, although the protective effect of the NDVI was considered. Likewise, the moderate effect of the NDVI gradually decreased as the level of depression increased in different groups. The current study conducted in China provides insights into the association between mental health, green space, and dyslipidemia. Hence, improving mental health and green spaces can be potential targets for medical interventions to decrease the prevalence of dyslipidemia.

Abstract
Objective Food-away-from-home (FAFH) is one of the leading dietary patterns in Chinese families. However, the relationship between FAFH and dyslipidemia remains unclear, especially in the rural adult population. This study explored the relationship of FAFH frequency with serum lipid levels and dyslipidemia in rural Chinese adults. Methods A total of 12,002 men and 17,477 women aged 18–79 were included from the Henan rural cohort. Serum lipid levels were measured by enzyme colorimetry. Information on FAFH frequency was collected using a validated questionnaire. The associations of FAFH frequency and serum lipid levels were assessed through multiple linear regression modeling. Logistic regression was performed to explore the linkages of the FAFH frequency to dyslipidemia and its four parameter types. Mediation analysis examined whether body mass index (BMI) acted as a mediator between the FAFH frequency and dyslipidemia. Results After adjusting for potential confounders, the adjusted odds ratio (OR ) and 95% confidence interval (CI ) of the groups with 8–11 FAFH times/week for dyslipidemia were 1.991 (1.569, 2.526) in men compared with 0-frequency subgroup. Participants who consumed 8–11 FAFH times/week had a higher risk of high total cholesterol (TC), high triglycerides (TG), high LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C), and low HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) with the OR and 95% CI of 1.928 (1.247, 2.980), 1.723 (1.321, 2.247), 1.875 (1.215, 2.893), and 1.513 (1.168, 1.959), respectively. In addition, the interaction effect between FAFH and gender was significantly associated with dyslipidemia and lipid levels (P < 0.001). BMI played a fully mediating effect between FAFH frequency and dyslipidemia in men, and the Sobel test showed the significance of the mediating effect (z = 4.2158, P < 0.001). Conclusion In rural Chinese adults, FAFH was significantly associated with a higher risk of dyslipidemia, which indicated the importance of FAFH reduction and dietary intervention in patients with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease, especially in clinical practice. Abstract
BACKGROUND The associations between blood lipids and DNA methylation have been investigated in epigenome-wide association studies mainly among European ancestry populations. Several studies have explored the direction of the association using cross-sectional data, while evidence of longitudinal data is still lacking. RESULTS We tested the associations between peripheral blood leukocytes DNA methylation and four lipid measures from Illumina 450 K or EPIC arrays in 1084 participants from the Chinese National Twin Registry and replicated the result in 988 participants from the China Kadoorie Biobank. A total of 23 associations of 19 CpG sites were identified, with 4 CpG sites located in or adjacent to 3 genes (TMEM49, SNX5/SNORD17 and CCDC7) being novel. Among the validated associations, we conducted a cross-lagged analysis to explore the temporal sequence and found temporal associations of methylation levels of 2 CpG sites with triglyceride and 2 CpG sites with high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) in all twins. In addition, methylation levels of cg11024682 located in SREBF1 at baseline were temporally associated with triglyceride at follow-up in only monozygotic twins. We then performed a mediation analysis with the longitudinal data and the result showed that the association between body mass index and HDL-C was partially mediated by the methylation level of cg06500161 (ABCG1), with a mediation proportion of 10.1%. CONCLUSIONS Our study indicated that the DNA methylation levels of ABCG1, AKAP1 and SREBF1 may be involved in lipid metabolism and provided evidence for elucidating the regulatory mechanism of lipid homeostasis.

Abstract
Inadequate diet and nutritional quality are potentially correlated with an escalated risk of cardiac-related morbidity and mortality. A plethora of knowledge is available regarding the influence of heart-healthy dietary patterns in response to disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), yet little is known regarding the best approaches to adopt. In response, the present investigation aims to bridge this knowledge gap by implementing mathematical machine learning grey methodology to assess the degree of influence and the potential contributing factors in DALYs due to ischemic heart disease and stroke, in conjunction with the Hurwicz (Min-Max) criterion. The outcomes highlighted that a diet low in fruits is a potential contributor to IHD-related DALYS, whereas a diet low in vegetables is a more grounded contributor to stroke-related DALYs in Spain, among others. Moreover, the Hurwicz approach highlighted IHD to be more impacted due to dietary and nutritional factors than stroke. In conclusion, our investigation strongly supports a balanced diet and precision nutrition guidelines as a strategy for reducing cardiac-related diseases in the Spanish population. It is a public health primary consideration to build an ambiance that encourages, rather than hinders, compliance with cardioprotective dietary practices among all people.

Abstract
PURPOSES Previous studies show inconsistent associations between niacin supplementation and diabetes mellitus (DM) in high-risk population, but little is known about the relationship between dietary intake of niacin and DM in the generation population. Our study aimed to explore the associations of dietary niacin intake with the risk of DM in the United States (US) adult population. METHODS These data were derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003-2018 of 35,606 individuals aged 20 years or older. Niacin intake and food sources were measured by two 24-h dietary recall interviews. The diagnosis of DM was established according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) criteria. Binary logistic regression and restricted cubic spline models were applied to evaluate the association of dietary niacin intake and DM. RESULTS Among the 35,606 individuals, the prevalence of DM was 11.47%. The full-adjusted odds ratio(aOR) of DM was 1.27(95%CI 1.06-1.52) for quartile (Q) 4 v. Q1 of dietary niacin intake. In the dose-response analysis, the shape of the association of niacin intake with the risk of DM was approximately J-shaped (non-linear, p < 0.05). Energy-adjusted niacin of 26.08 mg/day was the optimal cut-off value for predicting DM. CONCLUSIONS High dietary niacin intake was positively associated with DM among US adults. Abstract
Background Visceral obesity is a significant predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Diet may associate with CVD risk through its effects on visceral adiposity. This study aimed to find dietary patterns (DPs) related to indicators of visceral adiposity and to determine whether the DPs were associated with CVD risk. Methods This prospective study included 2,496 participants of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS) without CVD, who were followed from the third study examination (2005–2008; baseline) to March 2018. DPs at baseline were determined using reduced rank regression (RRR) and partial least squares regression (PLS). The response variables were age and BMI-adjusted waist circumference (WC) and age-adjusted visceral adiposity index (VAI). Results Two and three DPs were retained with RRR and PLS, respectively. The first patterns of each method were mainly characterized by adjusted-WC (RRR: 10.8%, PLS: 8.6%); none of them were associated with CVD risk. The second pattern of RRR and the third pattern of PLS were mainly explained by adjusted-VAI (RRR: 3.3, PLS: 2.1%). After adjusting for CVD risk factors, the hazard ratios [95% confidence intervals (CI)] for CVD in the second and third tertiles of the RRR-pattern 2 were 1.76 (1.15, 2.69) and 1.55 (1.00, 2.43) vs. the first tertile (p-trend: 0.058). This pattern had high positive loadings for non-leafy vegetables, pickled vegetables, fried vegetables, and bread and high negative loadings for eggs, cakes, butter, jam-honey, red meat, poultry, fish, juice, non-fermented dairy, and fruits. Per one SD increase in PLS-pattern 3 score, the risk of CVD was 19% higher (95%CI = 3–38%). This positive association was also observed across tertiles of the pattern (p-trend: 0.032). This pattern was characterized by high intakes of leafy vegetables, non-leafy vegetables, organ meat, soft drinks, olive oil, pickled vegetables, fried vegetables, and bread and low intakes of biscuits, cakes, butter, eggs, and non-fermented dairy. Conclusion For each of the RRR and PLS approaches, a visceral-related DP that was positively linked to CVD was identified. These two patterns had a modest correlation. The pattern generated by PLS explained more variations in food groups and offered stronger evidence of association with CVD than the RRR-derived pattern.

Abstract
Healthy diet patterns have a positive effect on chronic non-communicable diseases in the pediatric population, but the evidence is limited on the association between kidney impairment and adherence to a Mediterranean diet. We aim to determine the associations between Mediterranean diet adherence and longitudinal tubular and glomerular impairment in children. Based on four waves of urine assays conducted from October 2018 to November 2019, we assayed urinary β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) and microalbumin (MA) excretion to determine transient renal tubular and glomerular impairment during the follow-up of the child cohort (PROC) study in Beijing, China. We assessed Mediterranean diet adherence using the 16-item Mediterranean Diet Quality Index in children and adolescents (KIDMED) among 1914 primary school children. Poor, intermediate, and good adherence rates for the Mediterranean diet were 9.0% (KIDMED index 0–3), 54.4% (KIDMED index 4–7) and 36.5% (KIDMED index 8–12), respectively. A short sleep duration was more prevalent in children with lower Mediterranean diet adherence, with no significant differences presenting in the other demographic and lifestyle covariates. The results of linear mixed-effects models showed that a higher urinary MA excretion was inversely associated with a higher KIDMED score (β = −0.216, 95%CI: −0.358, −0.074, p = 0.003), after adjusting for sex, age, BMI z-score, SBP z-score, screen time, sleep duration and physical activity. Furthermore, in generalized linear mixed-effects models, consistent results found that transient renal glomerular impairment was less likely to develop in children with intermediate Mediterranean diet adherence (aOR = 0.68, 95%CI: 0.47, 0.99, p = 0.044) and in children with good Mediterranean diet adherence (aOR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.40, 0.90, p = 0.014), taking poor Mediterranean diet adherence as a reference. We visualized the longitudinal associations between each item of the KIDMED test and kidney impairment via a forest plot and identified the main protective eating behaviors. Children who adhere well to the Mediterranean diet have a lower risk of transient glomerular impairment, underscoring the necessity of the early childhood development of healthy eating patterns to protect kidney health.

Abstract
Background: Early assessment of carotid atherosclerotic plaque characteristics is essential for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk stratification and prediction. We aimed to identify different trajectories of lipid profiles and investigate the association of lipid trajectories with carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) progression in a large, longitudinal cohort of the Chinese population. Methods: 10,412 participants aged ≥18 years with ≥2 times general health checkups were included in this longitudinally prospective cohort study at Peking University Third Hospital. We used latent class trajectory models to identify trajectories of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) over follow-up time (757 days, IQR: 388–844 days). Results: Participants with carotid plaque were more likely to be older, male, have higher body mass index, have a higher prevalence of hypertension and diabetes, and have a higher level of blood pressure, TG, TC, and LDL-C, compared with carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) and normal group. Subjects were trichotomized according to different trajectory patterns into stable, moderate-stable, and elevated-increasing classes. TC ≥ 5.18 mmol/L and moderate-stable class (hazard ratio (HR): 1.416, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.285–1.559, p: 0.000), TG ≥ 1.70 mmol/L and moderate-stable class (HR: 1.492, 95% CI: 1.163–1.913, p: 0.002), TG ≥ 1.70 mmol/L and elevated-increasing class (HR: 1.218, 95% CI: 1.094–1.357, p: 0.000), LDL-C ≥ 3.36 mmol/L and stable class (HR: 1.500, 95% CI: 1.361–1.653, p: 0.000) were statistically significant associated with CAS progression compared with the reference group. Conclusions: Borderline elevated baseline lipid (TC, TG, and LDL-C) with stable and elevated-increasing trajectories were associated with CAS progression. Long-term strategies for low-level lipid are beneficial for ASCVD management.
