Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic skin conditions are common in youth. The developmental transition to young adulthood involves social, psychological and physical changes. Adolescents with chronic skin conditions may experience greater challenges than their healthy peers due to the addition of managing and coping with their condition. OBJECTIVE This study explored experiences of transition from adolescence to adulthood in the context of chronic skin conditions. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven young adults with chronic skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa). An interpretative phenomenological analysis methodological approach was used. RESULTS Six themes were generated: (1) Navigating a difficult medical journey; (2) Managing a chronic skin condition is all-consuming; (3) Living with a chronic skin condition can be physically limiting; (4) Distressed, isolated and abnormal: How my skin makes me feel; (5) What is wrong with you? Experiences of stigma because of my skin; and (6) The resilience journey when living with a chronic skin condition. CONCLUSIONS Findings highlight the difficulties experienced by young dermatology patients, particularly during adolescence, including challenges with healthcare providers, mobility disruptions and stigmatisation. Findings offer insight into how young people can be supported during their transition into adulthood, for example, treating skin conditions with a psychodermatological approach.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease with an estimated heritability of around 70%. Previous GWASs have detected several risk loci for psoriasis. To further improve the understanding of the genetic risk factors impacting the disease, we conducted a discovery GWAS in FinnGen and a subsequent replication and meta-analysis with data from the Estonian Biobank and the UK Biobank; the study sample included 925,649 individuals (22,659 cases and 902,990 controls), the largest sample for psoriasis yet. In addition, we conducted downstream analyses to find out more about psoriasis' cross-trait genetic correlations and causal relationships. We report 6 risk loci, which, to our knowledge, are previously unreported, most of which harbor genes related to NF-κB signaling pathway and overall immunity. Genetic correlations highlight the relationship between psoriasis and smoking, higher body weight, and lower education level. In addition, we report causal relationships between psoriasis and mood symptoms as well as 2-directioned causal relationship between psoriasis and lower education level. Our results provide further knowledge on psoriasis risk factors, which may be useful in the development of future treatment strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although stress is considered to be a negative factor for psoriasis, no convincing scientific evidence of this association exists, largely because of difficulties in measuring stress. Stress resilience is the ability to cope with and adapt to stressful events. Stress resilience can be measured in a standardized way and used as a marker for chronic stress. OBJECTIVES The objective of this study is to investigate whether low stress resilience in adolescence increases the risk for onset of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis later in life. METHODS A cohort of Swedish men (mean age 18.3 years), enrolled in compulsory military service between 1968 and 2005, was created using data from the Swedish Military Service Conscription Register (n = 1,669,422). Stress resilience at conscription was estimated using standardized semi-structured interviews, and was divided into three categories: low, medium and high. The men were followed from conscription until new-onset psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, death or emigration or at the latest until 31 December 2019. Cox regression models adjusted for confounders at conscription were used to obtain hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for incident psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. RESULTS Men in the lowest stress resilience category had an increased risk of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (HR 1.31 (95% CI 1.26-1.36) and 1.23 (95% CI 1.15-1.32), respectively), compared with those in the highest stress resilience category. When including only hospitalized patients the HRs for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis in the lowest stress resilience group were 1.79 (1.63-1.98) and 1.53 (1.32-1.77), respectively. CONCLUSIONS This large, prospective register study suggests that low stress resilience in adolescence is associated with an increased risk of incident psoriasis among men. The results indicate that patients with psoriasis have an inherent psychological vulnerability, and highlight the importance of addressing psychological well-being in the management of psoriasis.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease with a long disease course and frequent relapse characteristics. It is now recognised to be associated with epidermal environments of inflammatory cytokines. However, its pathogenesis is still not completely clear. We found the haemorheology of psoriatic patients to be abnormal, and ageing and deformed erythrocytes increased in the blood. The abnormal erythrocytes were more likely to induce psoriasis, which was confirmed in a mouse model induced by different blood components of psoriatic patients/healthy volunteers. Spleen filtration dysfunction, which caused abnormal erythrocytes, was also more likely to induce psoriasis, which was confirmed in a mouse model induced by splenectomy. The mechanism was the weakening of the 'eat me' function of spleen macrophages phagocytizing ageing and deformed erythrocytes, resulting in the dysfunction of spleen filtration and the increase of ageing and deformed erythrocytes in the body. Additionally, the decreased oxygen-carrying capacity and the declined antioxidant capacity of those erythrocytes led to the hypoxia environment, making psoriasis more likely to be induced. These findings demonstrate that spleen filtration dysfunction contributes to the pathogenesis of psoriasis and suggest that improving it may be an effective therapy for psoriasis and control its relapse.

Abstract
AIMS Assess the level of adherence to phototherapy and determine what factors influence it. DESIGN Cross-sectional. METHODS This study included a convenience sampling of 72 patients with psoriasis undergoing phototherapy. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire with sociodemographic variables, the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Short Form Health Survey and the Dermatology Life Quality Index. Adherence to the treatment and its ending was measured through a session record. RESULTS A small percentage of the participants demonstrated adequate adherence, and nearly half of them had low adherence. The factors statistically significant and with a negative impact on adherence were as follows: having a partner, experiencing anxiety or depression or using public transportation to get to the hospital. The probability of not adhering to the treatment increased when: patients found it difficult to attend therapy; perceiving their mental and physical health as being worse; experiencing anxiety or depression; having a diagnosed mental illness; being a man; or having had the sickness for an extended period of time. CONCLUSION This study determined the level of adherence to phototherapy and advanced our understanding of this variable. Women exhibited higher levels of adherence compared to men, although they reported worse perceived mental and physical health, and the disease had a higher impact on their life. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE Informing phototherapy nurses on the factors that impact treatment adherence may help to increase the treatment compliance, which may improve psoriasis patients' clinical symptoms. Abstract
BACKGROUND It is unknown if an unhealthy diet can affect the risk of developing psoriasis. OBJECTIVES To test the hypothesis that individuals with an unhealthy diet have an increased risk of prevalent and incident psoriasis. METHODS We included 105 332 adults from the Copenhagen General Population Study, who were invited to participate between 2003 and 2015. The response rate was 43%. An unhealthy vs. healthy diet was defined according to adherence to general national dietary guidelines. The participants were grouped into three groups: low, intermediate and high adherence to general national dietary guidelines; this was based on information from a food frequency questionnaire. Identification of psoriasis was made using International Classification of Diseases codes. RESULTS Of the 105 332 individuals, 580 had a diagnosis of psoriasis at the time of enrolment and 640 received a diagnosis during the median follow-up of 9 years. Risk of prevalent psoriasis increased according to nonadherence to general national dietary guidelines in a stepwise manner with an age- and sex-adjusted odds ratio of 1.70 (95% confidence interval 1.26-2.30) in individuals with low vs. high adherence to dietary guidelines. Results were similar in a multivariable-adjusted model. Prospective analyses adjusted for age and sex showed a weak association between nonadherence to dietary guidelines and risk of incident psoriasis (P for trend 0.04). This association disappeared, when adjusting for multiple confounders (P for trend 0.50). CONCLUSIONS Although individuals with psoriasis have an unhealthier diet, diet alone does not appear to independently increase the risk of developing psoriasis.

Abstract
Over the years, halotherapy (HT) has shown promise in the treatment of respiratory and dermatological diseases. However, its widespread acceptance remains limited due to the absence of official guidelines and awareness among doctors and patients. Among the patented systems of administration of HT, Aerosal® is the only one consisting of 3 certified elements, all classified as Medical Devices Class 2A: a dry saline dispenser called Aerosalmed®, a 30 g salt dose named AeroNaCL®, and a confined environment in marine multilayered construction with walls coated in salt called Aerosal®. We conducted an online survey of subjects undergoing Aerosal® HT across 80 Italian centers. Participants provided demographic data, reasons for choosing HT, and perceptions of its effectiveness. Following 10 treatment sessions, they rated improvements in various aspects, such as skin condition, sleep quality, relaxation, and respiratory benefits. Most participants learned about HT through word of mouth rather than medical advice, suggesting a discrepancy between patient satisfaction and medical endorsement. Over 92% reported resolution of their health issues post-treatment, with significant improvements in sleep quality and relaxation, particularly in adults. The therapy showed promise in various conditions, including respiratory and skin disorders, possibly attributed to stress reduction and intrinsic therapeutic effects. Despite skepticism, HT administered through the Aerosal® system has shown therapeutic potential. The psycho-physical benefits observed in patients advocate for greater consideration of this therapy by clinicians, emphasizing its safety, tolerability, and absence of notable side effects. In this context, standardized systems like Aerosal® are crucial for ensuring treatment safety and efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND T-LAK cell-oriented protein kinase (TOPK) strongly promotes the malignant proliferation of cancer cells and is recognized as a promising biomarker of tumor progression. Psoriasis is a common inflammatory skin disease featured by excessive proliferation of keratinocytes. Although we have previously reported that topically inhibiting TOPK suppressed psoriatic manifestations in psoriasis-like model mice, the exact role of TOPK in psoriatic inflammation and the underlying mechanism remains elusive. METHODS GEO datasets were analyzed to investigate the association of TOPK with psoriasis. Skin immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was performed to clarify the major cells expressing TOPK. TOPK conditional knockout (cko) mice were used to investigate the role of TOPK-specific deletion in IMQ-induced psoriasis-like dermatitis in mice. Flow cytometry was used to analyze the alteration of psoriasis-related immune cells in the lesional skin. Next, the M5-induced psoriasis cell model was used to identify the potential mechanism by RNA-seq, RT-RCR, and western blotting. Finally, the neutrophil-neutralizing antibody was used to confirm the relationship between TOPK and neutrophils in psoriasis-like dermatitis in mice. RESULTS We found that TOPK levels were strongly associated with the progression of psoriasis. TOPK was predominantly increased in the epidermal keratinocytes of psoriatic lesions, and conditional knockout of TOPK in keratinocytes suppressed neutrophils infiltration and attenuated psoriatic inflammation. Neutrophils deletion by neutralizing antibody greatly diminished the suppressive effect of TOPK cko in psoriasis-like dermatitis in mice. In addition, topical application of TOPK inhibitor OTS514 effectively attenuated already-established psoriasis-like dermatitis in mice. Mechanismly, RNA-seq revealed that TOPK regulated the expression of some genes in the IL-17 signaling pathway, such as neutrophils chemokines CXCL1, CXCL2, and CXCL8. TOPK modulated the expression of neutrophils chemokines via activating transcription factors STAT3 and NF-κB p65 in keratinocytes, thereby promoting neutrophils infiltration and psoriasis progression. CONCLUSIONS This study identified a crucial role of TOPK in psoriasis by regulating neutrophils infiltration, providing new insights into the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As a chronic skin disease, psoriasis often affects the physical, psychological and social status of the patient, which in turn impacts on their experience of illness and needs. However, there is no review of qualitative research that integrates and analyses the experiences and needs of these three influences from a holistic perspective. METHODS This review follows the ENTREQ guidelines. Six English databases (JBI, Cochrane Library, PubMed, PsyINFO, CINAHL and Embase) and three Chinese databases (CNKI, VIP and Wanfang) were searched from January 2012 to October 2022. Literature was included if it was relevant to the experience of illness and caring needs of patients with psoriasis. The JBI-QARI was used to rate the quality of included studies. RESULTS Eleven studies were included in the meta-synthesis. Four analytical themes were identified for analysis: physical challenges, psychological discomfort, social phenomena and caring needs. CONCLUSIONS The combined physical, psychological and social effects of psoriasis and the consequent caring needs should be emphasised. Health professionals, including doctors and nurses, should be aware of the multiple changes in patients and their coping strategies, provide information about psoriasis, monitor and follow-up regularly over time and obtain feedback to inform further treatment and care so as to develop high-quality therapeutic interventions to help and guide patients with their coping strategies. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE These findings describe the physical, psychological and social experiences of illness and caring needs of patients with psoriasis. Healthcare professionals should be more aware of patients' easily overlooked psychological and social distress, providing prompt attention and recognition of patients' experiences and needs, offering relevant assistance and support and enhancing daily, regular follow-up to help them improve their understanding of and ability to manage their illness. NO PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION This is a meta-synthesis without direct patient involvement.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic and recurrent inflammatory skin disorder. The primary manifestation of psoriasis arises from disturbances in the cutaneous immune microenvironment, but the specific functions of the cellular components within this microenvironment remain unknown. Recent advancements in single-cell technologies have enabled the detection of multi-omics at the level of individual cells, including single-cell transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome, which have been successfully applied in studying autoimmune diseases, and other pathologies. These techniques allow the identification of heterogeneous cell clusters and their varying contributions to disease development. Considering the immunological traits of psoriasis, an in-depth exploration of immune cells and their interactions with cutaneous parenchymal cells can markedly advance our comprehension of the mechanisms underlying the onset and recurrence of psoriasis. In this comprehensive review, we present an overview of recent applications of single-cell technologies in psoriasis, aiming to improve our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of this disorder.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin condition, affects 4 % of the population and is associated with various comorbidities, making it a public health concern. CASE REPORT We discuss the case of a 50-year-old man with severe erythrodermic psoriasis who presented with a ruptured saccular abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), requiring emergency surgery with good postoperative follow-up. shedding light on the link between psoriasis and cardiovascular complications. DISCUSSION Psoriasis severity correlates with cardiovascular risk and shares common development pathways with aortic aneurysms such as systemic and aortic inflammation, and arterial stiffness, emphasizing the importance of managing both skin symptoms and systemic inflammation to reduce vascular comorbidities. Psoriasis patients have a higher risk of AAA, warranting consideration for AAA screening. Controversies exist regarding corticosteroid therapy and choice of surgical intervention for AAA in psoriatic patients. CONCLUSION Psoriasis patients face an increased risk of AAA, highlighting the need for vigilant screening and comprehensive management. Further research is essential to understanding the pathophysiological connections between psoriasis and arterial diseases, guiding preventive strategies and optimal medical treatments for these high-risk patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dermatoses represent a significant burden. Patients and their caregivers can turn to social media and digital communities to exchange with each other. These public exchanges constitute real-life data that can be analysed to better understand the patients' feelings and expectations, and the daily difficulties encountered. OBJECTIVE An infodemiologic study of public testimonies of patients and caregivers related to five dermatoses: eczema, rosacea, vitiligo, acne and psoriasis, over a 3-year time frame (September 2018 to September 2021) in France. To identify main topics of discussion, encountered difficulties and unmet medical needs. METHODS Data extraction was performed based on a list of pertinent keywords. Web-users' profiles were determined by a specifically trained machine learning algorithm. Encountered difficulties were identified by manual annotation based on a standardized search grid. Co-occurrence analysis of difficulties allowed contextualization of challenges and unmet needs for each dermatosis. RESULTS A total of 20,282 messages coming from 16,800 web users was extracted. The main topics of discussion were 'Impact on self- image and self-confidence' (23.6%), 'Generic discussion about therapeutics' (23.3%) and 'Burden of others' gaze' (12.8%). The top three mentioned difficulties for the five targeted dermatoses were similar and focused on 'Fear of/and management of symptoms', 'Impact on/and mood management' and 'Damaged self-image'. CONCLUSION This infodemiologic study highlighted the real-life management of five skin diseases by patients and their caregivers, who turned to social networks to openly express their suffering and seek solutions. The joined analysis of the five diseases enabled a common comprehension of what it is to live with a skin disease, from a patient-centric point of view. The specific analysis of each patient group objectified specific challenges, and main unmet medical needs.

Abstract
The hormone prolactin (PRL) is best recognised for its indispensable role in mammalian biology, specifically the regulation of lactation. Bearing in mind that the mammary gland is a modified sweat gland, it is perhaps unsurprising to discover that PRL also plays a significant role in cutaneous biology and is implicated in the pathogenesis of a range of skin diseases, often those reportedly triggered and/or exacerbated by psychological stress. Given that PRL has been implicated in over 300 biological processes, spanning reproduction and hair growth and thermo- to immunoregulation, a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between PRL and the skin remains frustratingly elusive. In an historical curiosity, the first hint that PRL could affect skin biology came from the observation of seborrhoea in patients with post-encephalitic Parkinsonism as a result of another global pandemic, encephalitis lethargica, at the beginning of the last century. As PRL is now being postulated as a potential immunomodulator for COVID-19 infection, it is perhaps timeous to re-examine this pluripotent hormone with cytokine-like properties in the cutaneous context, drawing together our understanding of the role of PRL in skin disease to illustrate how targeting PRL-mediated signalling may represent a novel strategy to treat a range of skin diseases and hair disorders.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that negatively impacts on patient's life. A holistic approach integrating well-being assessment could improve disease management. Since a consensus definition of well-being in psoriasis is not available, we aim to achieve a multidisciplinary consensus on well-being definition and its components. A literature review and consultation with psoriasis patients facilitated the design of a two-round Delphi questionnaire targeting healthcare professionals and psoriasis patients. A total of 261 panellists (65.1% patients with psoriasis, 34.9% healthcare professionals) agreed on the dimensions and components that should integrate the concept of well-being: emotional dimension (78.9%) [stress (83.9%), mood disturbance (85.1%), body image (83.9%), stigma/shame (75.1%), self-esteem (77.4%) and coping/resilience (81.2%)], physical dimension (82.0%) [sleep quality (81.6%), pain/discomfort (80.8%), itching (83.5%), extracutaneous manifestations (82.8%), lesions in visible areas (84.3%), lesions in functional areas (85.8%), and sex life (78.2%)], social dimension (79.5%) [social relationships (80.8%), leisure/recreational activities (80.3%), support from family/friends (76.6%) and work/academic life (76.5%)], and satisfaction with disease management (78.5%) [treatment (78.2%), information received (75.6%) and medical care provided by the dermatologist (80.1%)]. This well-being definition reflects patients' needs and concerns. Therefore, addressing them in psoriasis will optimise management, contributing to better outcomes and restoring normalcy to the patient's life.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease with multifactorial pathogenesis involving both genetic and environmental factors as well as the innate and acquired immune response. Several triggering factors may exacerbate or worsen the disease. In this context, we performed a review manuscript with the aim of investigating current literature on psoriasis risk factors, also showing possible mechanisms by which they act on psoriasis. Globally, risk factors can be divided in classic risk factors (eg, mechanical stress, infections and dysbiosis of the skin, common drugs, environment and pollution, lifestyle, psychological stress, hormonal and metabolic alterations) which have long been known to be responsible for worsening and/or reoccurrence of psoriatic manifestations, and emerging risk factors (eg, biological drugs, immunotherapy for oncologic disease, Covid-19, and vaccines) defined as those newly identified risk factors. Accurate patient information and monitoring of risk factors as well as planned follow-ups may help to prevent and treat the worsening of psoriasis and consequently improve the quality of life of psoriatic patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with manifestations that go beyond the visual manifestation, and include psychological aspects. Some mental disorders or personality traits in psoriasis patients have also been highlighted, such as a negative or problematic attitude towards life, impulsive or avoidant behavior, and lower satisfaction with life. The aim of our cross-sectional study was to explore the associations between adult attachment, temperament, and quality of life of patients with psoriasis. METHODS A sample of 75 patients with psoriasis was evaluated with the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ) to study adult attachment, the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, and San Diego Auto-questionnaire (TEMPS-A) to study temperament traits, and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) to study the impact of dermatological diseases on patients' lives. RESULTS Depressive, cyclothymic, and irritable temperaments were found to be significantly positively associated with a need for approval and preoccupation with relationships subscales of the ASQ. The severity of skin disease effect on the patient's life was higher in women than in men. Moreover, a statistically significant effect of the need for approval subscale of the ASQ was found. The positive correlation between the severity of skin disease effect on the patient's life with a need for approval was statistically significant and stronger in women than in men. CONCLUSIONS A better understanding of the impact of mental comorbidities on psoriasis and vice versa places an ever-greater responsibility on dermatologists involved in the management of psoriasis to recognize these problems and collaborate with psychologists and psychiatrists to help these patients.

Abstract
Although many epidemiological surveys for patients with psoriasis have been reported based on individual countries or facilities, there has been no study encompassing the major countries or the region in Asia. The Asian Society for Psoriasis (ASP) has been conducting an epidemiological study across various Asian countries and regions to elucidate the and compare the epidemiology of psoriasis. A total of 1948 cases were analyzed, with 938 cases from Japan, 530 cases from China, 325 cases from Korea, 141 cases from Chinese Taipei, and 14 cases from Thailand, all of which were enrolled between 2020 and 2022. In the Asian region total, the male-female ratio was 1.87:1 and the peak age at disease onset was 20-29 years. The proportion of psoriasis vulgaris (PsV), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and pustular psoriasis (PP) was 80.1%, 17.7%, and 2.2%, respectively, and PsA was more commonly associated with nail symptoms than psoriasis vulgaris (PsV). Of the patients, 13% had a familial history of psoriasis and the most frequently affected family member was the father. Regarding treatment, 78.3% of the patients received topical medications, 9.0% underwent phototherapy, 34.0% received oral medications, and 36.1% were treated with biological agents. This study provided valuable information on the epidemiology and treatment of psoriasis using the registry data collected with the common reporting form in the same period in major Asian countries and regions. Male predominance is a distinctive feature of psoriasis in Asia. This epidemiological data registry in the ASP will continue afterwards.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Several classifications of psychodermatology disorders have been proposed, with most of them based on two to four main disorder category groups. However, there is, to date, no classification that has resulted from a consensus established by psychodermatology experts. The DSM-5-TR (Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (5th ed.), Text Revision) and the ICD-11 (International classification of diseases (11th revision)) also do not provide a systematized approach of psychodermatology disorders. Taking into consideration that classifications are a key pillar for a comprehensive approach to the pathologies of each branch of medicine, the proposal of a classification in psychodermatology appeared as a central need for the recognition of psychodermatological disorders, in an attempt to improve their recognition and, in that sense, to find a common language for the development of this subspecialty that crosses dermatology and psychiatry. METHODS Previously published classifications in psychodermatology were critically reviewed and discussed by expert opinion from an international multidisciplinary panel of 16 experts in psychodermatology and a new classification system is proposed, considering classical concepts in general dermatology and psychopathology. RESULTS Two main categories of disorders are presented (a main group related to primary mental health disorders and another main group related to primary skin disorders), which are subsequently subdivided into subgroups considering pathophysiological and phenomenological similarities, including key aspects of dermatological examination, namely the presence of visible skin lesions (primary and secondary skin lesions) and psychopathological correlates. CONCLUSION This new classification aims to unify previous classifications, systematize the disorders that belong to psychodermatology and highlight their tenuous boundaries, to improve their management. It has been built and approved by the Psychodermatology Task Force of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), the European Society for Dermatology and Psychiatry (ESDaP) and the Association for Psychoneurocutaneous Medicine of North America (APMNA).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. However, the influence of the TOP2A and MELK genes on psoriasis remains unclear. METHODS Psoriasis datasets GSE166388 and GSE181318 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database generated from GPL570 and GPL22120. Differential gene expression (DEGs) was identified. Functional enrichment analysis, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and immune infiltration analysis were conducted. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed and analyzed. Gene expression heat map was generated. The most relevant diseases associated with core genes were determined through comparison with the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD) website. TargetScan was used to select miRNAs regulating central DEGs. RESULTS A total of 773 DEGs were identified. According to Gene Ontology (GO) analysis, they were mainly enriched in mitochondrial gene expression, oxidative phosphorylation, mitochondrial envelope, mitochondria and ribosome. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed that target cells were mainly enriched in metabolic pathways, proteasome, and oxidative phosphorylation. Seven core genes (TOP2A, NUF2, MELK, ASPM, DLGAP5, CCNA2, DEPDC1B) were obtained. The gene expression heatmap showed high expression of core genes (TOP2A, MELK) in psoriasis samples, while DEPDC1B, CCNA2, DLGAP5, NUF2, ASPM were lowly expressed in psoriasis samples. CTD analysis found that TOP2A and MELK were related to skin neoplasms, skin diseases, psoriasis, erythema, dermatitis, and infections. CONCLUSION TOP2A and MELK genes are highly expressed in psoriasis, and higher expression of TOP2A and MELK genes is associated with poorer prognosis.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease, involving a complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors. Previous studies have demonstrated that genetic factors play a major role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. However, non-genetic factors are also necessary to trigger the onset and recurrence of psoriasis in genetically predisposed individuals, which include infections, microbiota dysbiosis of the skin and gut, dysregulated lipid metabolism, dysregulated sex hormones, and mental illness. Psoriasis can also be induced by other environmental triggers, such as skin trauma, unhealthy lifestyles, and medications. Understanding how these triggers play a role in the onset and recurrence of psoriasis provides insights into psoriasis pathogenesis, as well as better clinical administration. In this review, we summarize the triggers for the onset and recurrence of psoriasis and update the current evidence on the underlying mechanism of how these factors elicit the disease. Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic-inflammatory, immune-mediated disease leading to a state of increased systemic inflammation. Mental comorbidities often occur in the patients and may additionally affect the therapy outcome. Currently, it is unknown whether the disease severity, psychosocial stress or health-related quality of life determines the manifestation of anxiety/depression, or vice versa, in psoriasis. The interplay between these variables during the dermatological treatment of psoriasis remains to be elucidated in order to initiate appropriate psychological interventions and to identify patients at risk for comorbid anxiety/depression. In a prospective cohort study, the impact of disease severity, health-related quality of life and psychosocial stress on anxiety/depression were examined during the dermatological treatment in patients with moderate to severe psoriasis (patients with psoriasis = PSO). Patients were examined before (T1) and about 3 months after (T2) the beginning of a new treatment episode, in most cases by means of systemic therapy. Data were analysed, exploratory, using Bivariate Latent Change Score Models and mediator analyses. Assessments included patient-reported outcomes (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale/HADS, Perceived Stress Scale/PSS, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire/CTQ, Dermatology Life Quality Index-DLQI, Body Surface Area-BSA), at both T1 and T2. 83 PSO patients (37.3% women, median age 53.7, IQR 37.8-62.5, median BSA 18.0, IQR 9.0-40.0) with complete data of HADS and DLQI were included. In the total group, a higher anxiety/depression at T1 was associated with a lower improvement in psoriasis severity in the course of the dermatological treatment (γBSA = 0.50, p < 0.001). In subgroups of PSO with low/high CTQ scores, anxiety/depression at T1 had no impact on the change in psoriasis severity. Only by tendency, in CTQ subgroups, a higher psoriasis severity at T1 was linked with a higher improvement in anxiety/depression at T2 (low/high CTQ, γHADS = -0.16/-0.15, p = 0.08). An improvement in the health-related quality of life was positively associated with an improvement in anxiety/depression (Pearson's r = 0.49, p = 0.02). Here, the reduction of acute psychosocial stress seems to be a decisive factor, mediating this association (β = 0.20, t [2,60] = 1.87; p = 0.07, 95% CI -0.01, 0.41). The results allude, that the initial severity of anxiety/depression may presumably have an impact on the treatment outcome in the total group. In contrast, analysing subgroups of patients with high/low childhood trauma, the impact of the initial disease severity on the course of anxiety/depression after a switch to a new dermatological treatment could not be conclusively ruled out. The latter results from the latent change score modelling should be treated cautiously because of the small sample size. A common aetiopathological mechanism for psoriasis and anxiety/depression might be assumed with impact of dermatological treatment on both. The change in perceived stress seems to play an important role in the manifestation of anxiety/depression, substantiating the need for adequate stress management in patients with increased psychosocial stress during their dermatological treatment.

Abstract
The global incidence of autoimmune diseases is on the rise, and many healthcare professionals believe that chronic stress plays a prominent role in both the aggravation and remission of these conditions. It is believed that prolonged exposure to stress is associated with neuroimmune axis malfunction, which eventually dysregulates multiple immunological factors as well as deregulates autoimmune responses that play a central role in various autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Herein, we performed validation of an 8-week long rat model of chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) which consisted of exposing groups of rats to random stressors daily for 8 weeks. Additionally, we developed a novel rat model combining 8-week long random stressor-induced CUS with CIA-triggered arthritis and IMQ-triggered psoriasis and have successfully used both these models to assess the role of chronic stress in the aggravation of arthritis and psoriasis, respectively. Notably, the 8-week CUS protocol extensively aggravated and prolonged both arthritis and psoriasis condition in the rat model by upregulating the release of different pro-inflammatory cytokines, dysregulation of immune cell responses and oxidative stress system, which were all related to severe inflammation. Further, CUS aggravated macroscopic features and the increase in destruction of joint tissue and epidermal thickness induced by CIA and IMQ, respectively, in rats. In conclusion, this study suggests that exposure to an 8-week long CUS paradigm aggravates the distinctive characteristics of rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis in rats via amplifying the inflammatory circuits and immune cell responses linked to these autoimmune diseases.

Abstract
This study was conducted to estimate the effectiveness of marine-derived resources for treating specific diseases, as well as identify the most effective methods for applying such resources in therapeutic applications. Bibliographic databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane) were searched from their inception until May 2023 using Medical Subject Headings terms and text keywords related to seawater, mineral water, or ocean therapy. Fifteen eligible studies were included, involving 1325 participants aged 42.7-63.0 years. In the subgroup analysis based on treatment type, the mean difference was -1.581 (95% CI: -1.889, -1.274) for seawater with sun exposure and -1.210 (95% CI: -1.417, -1.002) for seawater with sun exposure, mud pack application, and sulfur pool therapy. The pooled standardized mean difference was calculated for different outcomes; the results were -1.110 (95% CI: -3.028, 0.806) for osteoarthritis severity, -0.795 (95% CI: -0.982, -0.607) for arthritis pain, -1.623 (95% CI: -2.036, -1.209) for fibromyalgia pain, and -1.498 (95% CI: -1.888, -1.108) for quality of life. Marine therapy is, therefore, promising for treating chronic skin issues, easing musculoskeletal discomfort, and enhancing the quality of life among patients with musculoskeletal pain.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Real-world evidence (RWE) data is increasingly important to generate rapid insights to effectively manage patient populations. Disruptions like the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic may negatively impact the choice of medications used for managing chronic diseases such as psoriasis (PSO). Here, we explored the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sales volumes of treatment guideline-based PSO medication in Germany. METHODS Patient-level pharmacy dispensing data from the Permea platform, covering approximately 44% of all community pharmacy dispensing in Germany, were analysed from 2019 through to 2021. Patient demographics and PSO indicated medication sales were assessed specifically before and during the pandemic in Germany. RESULTS We included 6,865,852 sold PSO related drugs from April 2019 to March 2021. Medication sales increased during the pandemic compared with before the pandemic for treatment classes of first-line biological and second-line drugs. The increase was observed across all age groups, but monthly variations could not be detected. Furthermore, we observed increased sales in first-line biological and second-line medications when comparing low to high COVID-19 incidence state. CONCLUSION Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the PSO indicated medication sales increased for first-line biological and second-line treatment. This shows that despite the pandemic impact, there continues to be an increase in sales volume for biologics. Only German federal states with intermittently very high COVID-19 incidences show a stagnation in sales volume. The reasons for this need to be investigated in further studies to possibly gain a better understanding of the concerns and uncertainties of patients with PSO.

Abstract
Psychological stress has long been considered to cause the aggravation and recurrence of psoriasis, but the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. Here, we used a mouse model of restraint-induced stress and imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasiform inflammation to investigate the crosstalk between stress and the skin immune system and their functions in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. We found that stress aggravated skin inflammation and elevated serum corticosterone (CORT) levels in mice. Stress also increased the number of macrophages and glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression in IMQ-treated mouse skin. GR agonist CORT upregulated the phosphorylation of STAT1 to promote M1 macrophage polarization in vitro. Additionally, GR deletion in macrophages and pharmacologic inhibition of GR improved skin inflammation and reduced M1 macrophage polarization under stress. Taken together, these results indicate that stress aggravates psoriasiform inflammation by promoting CORT/GR signaling-induced M1 macrophage polarization, suggesting that blocking the GR signaling has great potential as an adjuvant treatment for psoriasis patients with chronic stress.

Abstract
Objective As a common chronic inflammatory skin disease, psoriasis seriously affects the physical health and psychological well-being of patients. Various clinical treatments for psoriasis have their own drawbacks, so it is important to find effective and safe drugs. Rehmannioside A (ReA) has anti-inflammatory properties and is the main active ingredient in Fuzhengzhiyanghefuzhiyang decoction (FZHFZY), an herbal compound for the treatment of psoriasis. But no studies have been conducted to determine whether ReA alone can treat psoriasis. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the effect of ReA in the treatment of psoriasis and its potential mechanism of action. Methods HaCaT cells were treated with ReA and IL-17A alone for 24 h and 48 h, and the most effective concentrations of ReA and interleukin (IL)-17A were found at 25 μg/mL and 100 ng/mL, respectively. A psoriasis cell model was constructed by stimulating HaCaT cells with IL-17A, followed by intervention with ReA. Cell viability and cell cycle distribution were measured by MTT assay and flow cytometry. The expression levels of keratin family members and chemokines were detected by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and key proteins of TRAF6/MAPK signaling pathway by Western blot. Results ReA weaken cell viability, down-regulate the expression of keratin family members (KRT6 and KRT17), restore cell cycle distribution to normal distribution, inhibit the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8 and IL-1β) and lower the expression of chemokines (S100A7, S100A9 and CXCL2) by interfering with the interaction between HaCaT cells and IL-17A. Thus, it exerts an anti-psoriatic effect by reducing the inflammatory response and inhibiting abnormal proliferation of HaCaT cells. Mechanistically, ReA inhibited the TRAF6/MAPK signaling pathway activated by IL-17A stimulation in HaCaT cells. Conclusion ReA has in vitro anti-psoriatic effects and may be a new therapeutic agent for psoriasis.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a common inflammatory skin disease characterized by abnormal proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes and massive infiltration of inflammatory cells. Many kinds of cells, including keratinocytes, T lymphocytes, dendritic cells, neutrophils, and macrophages, are reported to play critical roles in the pathogenesis and progression of psoriasis. However, to date, the role of each kind of cell in the pathogenesis and development of psoriasis has not been systematically reviewed. In addition, although antibodies developed targeting cytokines (e.g. IL-23, IL-17A, and TNF-α) released by these cells have shown promising results in the treatment of psoriasis patients, these targeted antibodies still do not cure psoriasis and only provide short-term relief of symptoms. Furthermore, long-term use of these antibodies has been reported to have adverse physical and psychological effects on psoriasis patients. Therefore, gaining a deeper understanding of the cellular and molecular pathogenesis of psoriasis and providing new thoughts on the development of psoriasis therapeutic drugs is of great necessity. In this review, we summarize the roles of various cells involved in psoriasis, aiming to provide new insights into the pathogenesis and development of psoriasis at the cellular level and hoping to provide new ideas for exploring new and effective psoriasis treatments.

Abstract
Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is an inflammatory musculoskeletal disease characterized by joint and entheses involvement. This condition is often associated with an increased prevalence of obesity, encompassing more than one-third of all patients. Given the presence of metabolic disorders, it becomes crucial to enhance clinical oversight of metabolic parameters. An early diagnosis of glucose irregularities in PsA allows for the assessment of an effective treatment strategy. The approach proves valuable in preventing the development of insulin resistance (IR) or diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMt2). Similar pathways characterize the pathomechanism of PsA and DMt2, offering an innovative perspective on treatment management. The cytokines and adipokines synthesized in the course of PsA significantly impact the development process of IR and DMt2 in different mechanisms of action. Conversely, glucose disorders influence the activity of PsA and therapy outcomes. Given the chronic inflammatory background shared by PsA, obesity, and DMt2, it is evident that inadequate management of any of the mentioned conditions can exacerbate the others. Thus, when PsA coincides with DMt2, a comprehensive multidimensional approach is necessary. This includes an effective immunosuppressive regimen complemented by appropriate anti-diabetic and insulin therapies. Moreover, often overlooked recommendations concerning overall well-being and lifestyle adjustments hold significance. This manuscript explores the connections and the relationship between the molecular background of PsA and glucose disorders. It provides a detailed exposition of specific therapeutic approaches for both conditions.

Abstract
Background Psoriasis vulgaris is a chronic skin disease which is related to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. In the pathogenesis of these diseases, adipokines, including retinol binding protein-4 (RBP-4), play crucial roles. Studies have also shown that RBP-4 might be a meaningful factor in psoriasis however, relying on the analysis of a single study have some drawbacks. Objective To evaluate the association between RBP-4 and psoriasis vulgaris more comprehensively. Methods Six databases were searched to obtain relevant publications. The selection of the included studies was based on a criteria. The standardized mean difference (SMD) was used for analysis. A value of p < 0.05 was defined as significance. Results Seven studies were included, with 271 cases and 235 controls. In the comparison between patients and controls, the merged data suggested that levels of RBP-4 were significantly higher in patients (SMD = 0.61, 95%CI: 0.14, 1.07, p < 0.05). In five studies containing the data of RBP-4 levels before and after treatment, no significance was found, either for RBP-4 levels in the after-treatment group and control group in these five studies (p > 0.05). Subgroup analysis was conducted based on the therapy method. Patients with systematic treatment showed a significant decrease of BRP-4 level after the treatment (SMD = -0.64, 95%CI: -1.26, -0.03, p < 0.05). Conclusion For patients with psoriasis vulgaris, RBP-4 levels are elevated, and systematic treatment can lower these levels. RBP-4 might act as a key indicator for the diagnosis, efficacy assessment, and comorbidity monitoring of the patients. Further studies with well-designed protocols and enlarged populations are still needed.

Abstract
Erianin, a phytoestrogen with therapeutic potential, is one of the major active components of Dendrobll caulis. Erianin has a variety of pharmacological effects, such as anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic retinopathy, anti-psoriasis, and antibacterial effects. Especially, in regard to the anti-tumor effect of erianin, the underlying molecular mechanism has been partly clarified. In fact, the numerous pharmacological actions of erianin are complex and interrelated, mainly including ERK1/2, PI3K/Akt, JAK2/STAT3, HIF-1α/PD-L1, PPT1/mTOR, JNK/c-Jun, and p38 MAPK signal pathway. However, on account of the poor water solubility and the low bioavailability of erianin, greatly affected and limited its further development and application. And it is worthwhile and meaningful to explore more extensive pharmacological effects and mechanisms, clarify pharmacokinetics, and synthesize the derivatives of erianin. Conclusively, in this paper, the pharmacological effects of erianin and its mechanism, pharmacokinetics, and derivatives studies were reviewed, in order to provide a reference for the development and application of erianin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with long-standing psoriasis who are not treated with conventional medicine seek complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The biological revolution in the field of psoriasis since the late 2000s has progressed, expecting clearance or almost clearance of the disease. The frequency and type of CAM usage may have changed after these advances. We aimed to investigate changes in CAM use in Korean patients with psoriasis before and after the prevalent use of biologics. METHODS Patients with psoriasis who visited Pusan National University Hospitals (Busan and Yangsan) between March 2020 and June 2022 were made to complete a face-to-face structured questionnaire. These results were compared with our previous study conducted approximately 10 years ago. RESULTS In total, 207 patients were included. Compared with the previous results, the frequency of CAM use (67.6%) increased (P < 0.001). Oriental medicine (67.1%) has most commonly been used, followed by health supplements and bath therapy. The biggest reason for using CAM was "to try all the potential treatments." Meanwhile, negative concerns about conventional medicine (13.5%) significantly decreased during the 10-year period (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Although treatment efficacy has increased with biologics development, CAM usage remains prevalent among Korean patients with psoriasis. Therefore, dermatologists need more efforts to improve patients' understanding of conventional medicine, including biologics.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Each brain hemisphere plays a specialized role in cognitive and behavioral processes, known as hemispheric lateralization. In chronic skin diseases, such as plaque psoriasis (Pso) and atopic dermatitis (AD), the degree of lateralization between the frontal hemispheres may provide insight into specific connections between skin diseases and the psyche. This study aims to analyze the hemispherical lateralization, neurovegetative responses, and psychometric characteristics of patients with Pso and AD. METHODS The study included 46 patients with Pso, 56 patients with AD, and 29 healthy control (Ctrl) subjects. The participants underwent frontal electroencephalogram (EEG) measurement, heart rate variability (HRV) assessment, and psychological tests. Statistical analyses were performed using ANOVA, with Bonferroni correction applied for multiple comparisons. RESULTS This study shows a significant right-lateralized prefrontal activity in both AD patients (p < 0.001) and Pso patients (p = 0.045) compared with Ctrl, with no significant difference between the AD and Pso groups (p = 0.633). AD patients with right-hemispheric dominant prefrontal activation exhibited increased inhibition and avoidance markers, while Pso patients showed elevated sympathetic nervous system activity. CONCLUSION Psychophysiological and psychometric data suggest a shared prevalence of right-hemispheric dominance in both AD and Pso patient groups. However, the findings indicate distinct psychodermatological mechanisms in AD and Pso.

Abstract
AIM Psoriasis is one of the most common dermatological disorders, characterized by increased epidermal hyperplasia and immune cell infiltration. Psychological stress has been reported to contribute to the severity, aggravation, and relapse of psoriasis. However, the exact mechanism involved in psychological stress's impact on psoriasis is still unclear. We aim to investigate the role of psychological stress in psoriasis from a transcriptomic and metabolomic perspective. MAIN METHOD We developed a chronic restrain stress (CRS)-imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis-like mouse model and performed a comprehensive comparative transcriptomic and metabolic analysis with control mice, CRS-treated mice, and IMQ-treated mice to investigate how psychological stress affects psoriasis. KEY FINDING We found that CRS-IMQ-induced psoriasis-like mice showed significant exacerbation of psoriasis-like skin inflammation compared with mice treated with IMQ only. Mice of the CRS + IMQ group showed increased expression of keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation genes, differential regulation of cytokines, and promotion of linoleic acid metabolism. Correlation analysis of differentially expressed genes in the CRS-IMQ-induced psoriasis-like mice and human psoriasis datasets compared with respective controls revealed 96 overlapping genes of which 30 genes showed consistent induced or repressed expression in all human and mouse datasets. SIGNIFICANCE Our study provides new insights into the effects of psychological stress on psoriasis pathogenesis and the mechanisms involved, which provides clues for development of therapeutics or biomarkers.

Abstract
Background During the past decades, several unconventional strategies for controlling chronic inflammatory diseases, including psoriasis, have been developed. The use of probiotics has been gaining importance as an adjuvant therapy in the treatment of these pathologies. Objectives Evaluate the impact of the use of the Lactobacillus rhamnosus probiotic strain in patients diagnosed with common and palmoplantar psoriasis. Methods 35 patients were randomly divided into two groups: 18 using probiotics and 17 using placebo. They were evaluated on days 0 and 60, with photographic records of lesions, IL17 and IL23 quantification and calculations of Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI), Body Surface Area (BSA) and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) clinical evaluation scores. Results There was significative improvement in the clinical presentation and a reduction in the index of all clinical scores (PASI from 4.53 ± 4.457 to 3.57 ± 3.333, BSA from 5.44 ± 6.451 to 4.94 ± 5.961 and DLQI from 8.83 ± 8.631 to 7 ± 7.814, in the probiotic group.) However, there was no reduction in the quantification of IL23 and IL17. Adverse events related to the use of probiotics were minimal. Conclusions There was a Positive correlation between the use of probiotics and improvement of clinical aspects and clinical scores of disease severity, not associated with reduction in interleukins 17 and 23 blood levels.

Abstract
Despite skin being the largest and most exposed organ of the human body, skin issues can be challenging to diagnose in deployed military service members. Common reasons deployed soldiers seek dermatological evaluation include infections, inflammatory skin conditions, and skin growth. Due to limited access to specialized care in deployed settings, dermatological conditions are undertreated and underdiagnosed. As a result, dermatological conditions are a leading contributor to decreased combat effectiveness among deployed medical forces. To lessen the burden of dermatological diseases, military providers should promptly identify operational skin diseases and alleviate modifiable barriers faced by service members. In a post-pandemic era with novel Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and monkeypox infections, the duty to effectively treat operational skin lesions is ever important. The need for military dermatologists continues to rise as the global landscape continues to evolve with unprecedented infections and increased bioterrorism threats. Teledermatology offers many solutions to mitigate the high demand for dermatologists during pandemics. Dermatological consultations account for the highest number of telemedicine visits in the US Military Health System (MHS). As such, increased utilization of teledermatology will reduce infection-related dermatological sequelae and prevent the medical evacuation of service members from military operations. This review collates and categorizes relevant dermatological conditions encountered among deployed personnel. This report outlines the standard of care and modified treatments recommended according to potential barriers faced in operational settings.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease affecting approximately 2% of the UK population. Its pathogenesis is suggested to be an outcome of genetic and environmental interplay. People with psoriasis have an increased likelihood of developing other conditions such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Systemic inflammation is hypothesised to be the common link between psoriasis and cardio-metabolic diseases. Emerging evidence shows diet as a potential therapeutic adjunct in the management of psoriasis. The Diet and Psoriasis Project (DIEPP) aims to investigate whether dietary factors are related to psoriasis severity by conducting an observational study followed by a dietary intervention trial, to assess the effect of the Mediterranean diet (MedD) and time-restricted eating (TRE) on psoriasis. This review article will explore the potential mechanisms by which the MedD and TRE may exert protective effects on psoriasis, evaluate the current evidence, and outline the design of the DIEPP. Given the early-stage evidence, we hope to be able to build knowledge to derive medically approved dietary recommendations and contribute to the research gaps exploring the role of diet and psoriasis.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition, which can be affected by stress. Living with psoriasis can trigger negative emotions, which may influence quality of life. The present study explored the lived experiences of people with psoriasis with attention to the potential role of anger in the onset and progression of the chronic skin condition. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 12 participants (n = 5 females, n = 7 males) recruited from an advert on a patient charity social media platform. Data were transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Four key themes were identified: (1) anger at the self and others, (2) the impact of anger on psoriasis: angry skin, (3) shared experiences of distress and (4) moving past anger to affirmation. Findings suggest that anger can have a perceived impact on psoriasis through contributing to sensory symptoms and unhelpful coping cycles, and points to a need for enhanced treatment with more psychological support. The findings also highlight the continued stigma which exists for those living with visible skin conditions and how this may sustain anger for those individuals. Future research could usefully focus on developing targeted psychosocial interventions to promote healthy emotional coping.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Alexithymia is characterized by an inability to identify and describe feelings, which may increase the psychological burden of patients with psoriasis. The prevalence of alexithymia in psoriasis has been investigated with variable results. This study aimed to estimate the overall alexithymia prevalence in psoriasis. METHODS The PubMed, PsycInfo, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, China Knowledge Resource in Integrated Database (CNKI), WanFang Database, Weipu Database (VIP), and Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM) electronic databases were searched from inception to March 28, 2022, for cross-sectional studies, that reported prevalence of alexithymia. The included studies were evaluated for quality, data synthesis, subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias. RESULTS This systematic review and meta-analysis included 16 articles involving 3752 patients with psoriasis from eight countries. The pooled prevalence of alexithymia was 28% (95% CI: 25-32%), with heterogeneity between studies (I2 = 80.03%, p < .001). There was a higher prevalence of alexithymia in women with psoriasis, patients with a Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) score >10, patients with psoriatic arthritis, and patients with psoriasis with visible skin lesions had a higher prevalence of alexithymia. CONCLUSION More than a quarter of people with psoriasis have alexithymia., But due to the small sample size of the included studies, the results of the subgroup analysis should be interpreted with caution. More research is needed to elucidate the mechanism of alexithymia development in psoriasis. These findings may provide a theoretical basis for the screening and intervention of alexithymia in patients with psoriasis.

Abstract
It is well known that psychological stress could affect the immune system and then regulate the disease process. Previous studies mostly focused on the effects of chronic stress on diseases and immune cells. How acute stress affects the immune system remains poorly understood. In this study, after 6 hours of restraint stress or no stress, RNA was extracted from mouse peripheral blood followed by sequencing. Through bioinformatics analysis, we found that when compared with the control group, differentially expressed genes in the stress group mainly displayed up-regulated expression. Gene set enrichment analysis results showed that the enriched gene terms were mainly related to inflammatory response, defense response, wounding response, wound healing, complement activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. In terms of cell activation, differentiation and chemotaxis, the enriched gene terms were related to a variety of immune cells, among which neutrophils seemed more active in stress response. The results of gene set variation analysis showed that under acute stress, the inflammatory reaction dominated by innate immunity was forming. Additionally, the concentration of serum IL-1β and IL-6 increased significantly after acute stress, indicating that the body was in an inflammatory state. Importantly, we found that acute stress led to a significant increase in the number of neutrophils in peripheral blood, while the number of T cells and B cells decreased significantly through flow cytometric analysis. Through protein-protein interaction network analysis, we screened 10 hub genes, which mainly related to inflammation and neutrophils. We also found acute stress led to an up-regulation of Ccr1, Ccr2, Xcr1 and Cxcr2 genes, which were involved in cell migration and chemotaxis. Our data suggested that immune cells were ready to infiltrate into tissues in emergency through blood vessels under acute stress. This hypothesis was supported in LPS-induced acute inflammatory models. After 48 hours of LPS treatment, flow cytometric analysis showed that the lungs of mice with acute stress were characterized by increased neutrophil infiltration, decreased T cell and B cell infiltration. Immunohistochemical analysis also showed that acute stress led to more severe lung inflammation. If mice received repeat acute stress and LPS stimulation, the survival rate was significantly lower than that of mice only stimulated by LPS. Altogether, acute stress led to rapid mobilization of the immune system, and the body presented an inflammatory state dominated by innate immune response represented by neutrophils.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psoriasis is a chronic disease characterized by inflammation, increased scaling, itching, and other symptoms. Psoriasis is not contagious, but patients have often felt shunned. Therefore, in addition to psoriasis symptoms, stress, anxiety, and depression can also affect quality of life (QoL). Surveys show that only a quarter of patients are satisfied with the success of their therapy. However, in addition to medical therapy, self-management can also make it easier to deal with chronic diseases like psoriasis. OBJECTIVE The aim of this project was to develop a smartphone-based self-management tool (SMT) specifically for patients with psoriasis using a community-driven process. The impact of the SMT on QoL as well as its acceptance and usability were evaluated. METHODS In collaboration with an internet-based self-help community, 2 user surveys were conducted to determine the requirements for a smartphone-based SMT. The surveys consisted of semistructured questionnaires asking for desired features in an SMT for psoriasis. A pilot study was conducted to evaluate QoL, acceptance, and usability. Community users were recruited to use the app for 21 days and complete the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire at the beginning (T0) and end (T1). Afterward, participants were asked to complete another questionnaire on usability and ease of use. RESULTS SMT requirements were collected from 97 members of an internet-based community. The SMT was built as a progressive web app that communicates with a server back end and an Angular web app for content management. The app was used by 15 participants who also provided qualitative feedback, and 10 participants answered all questionnaires. The average DLQI score was 7.1 (SD 6.2) at T0 and 6.9 (SD 6.6) at T1. The minimal required sample size of 27 was not reached. CONCLUSIONS The high degree of community participation in the development process and the responses during the requirement engineering process indicated that there is a general need for an independently developed SMT for patients with psoriasis. However, the feedback received after app use shows that the SMT does not meet the needs of the community. It can be concluded that a more customizable app is needed. The focus and needs of the users were very heterogeneous. Similar developments and research could benefit from the findings of this project.

Abstract
Inflammatory diseases of the skin, including atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, have gained increasing attention with rising incidences in developed countries over the past decades. While bodily properties, such as immunological responses of the skin, have been described in some detail, interactions with the brain via different routes are less well studied. The suggested routes of the skin–brain axis comprise the immune system, HPA axis, and the peripheral and central nervous system, including microglia responses and structural changes. They provide starting points to investigate the molecular mechanisms of neuropsychiatric comorbidities in AD and psoriasis. To this end, mouse models exist for AD and psoriasis that could be tested for relevant behavioral entities. In this review, we provide an overview of the current mouse models and assays. By combining an extensive behavioral characterization and state-of-the-art genetic interventions with the investigation of underlying molecular pathways, insights into the mechanisms of the skin–brain axis in inflammatory cutaneous diseases are examined, which will spark further research in humans and drive the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Abstract
PURPOSE Prior research on the psychological consequences of skin diseases has focused on assessing mental comorbidities. The aim of this study was to investigate subjective well-being in a large sample of individuals affected by psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, and to explore the associations with depression and disease-related parameters such as disease severity. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey was conducted from March to June 2019. The link to the questionnaire was shared on websites and Facebook pages of psoriasis patient organizations and campaigns. Participants filled in validated scales measuring subjective well-being-operationalized as positive affect (PA), negative affect (NA) and satisfaction with life (SWL); and depression. RESULTS The data of 722 participants were analyzed. Exploratory factor analysis supported the differentiation of PA, NA, SWL, and depression as four different constructs. The respondents reported lower levels of PA than healthy individuals and judged themselves to be less happy and were less satisfied with their lives than the general population (except age group 65 + years). 40.3% of respondents were screened positive for depression. More severe psoriasis was associated with lower affective well-being and a higher risk for depression. CONCLUSION The results of this study empirically supported the differentiation of subjective well-being and depression as different constructs in individuals with psoriasis, and underline the large mental burden of the disease which goes beyond a higher risk for depression. Measures of well-being should thus be incorporated in both research and clinical practice in patients with psoriasis in order to achieve a more comprehensive picture of the mental burden of this disease.

Abstract
There is growing evidence that oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of numerous conditions, including dermatological diseases. Various markers are available to assess oxidative stress, but none of these can be considered the ideal marker. Recent studies have shown that ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) is not only an indicator of ischemia, but also a marker of oxidative stress. We have conducted a narrative review to evaluate the role of IMA in dermatological diseases. We have identified 24 original articles that evaluated IMA in skin disorders (psoriasis, acne vulgaris, hidradenitis suppurativa, urticaria, vitiligo and Behcet’s disease) and hair disorders (alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia and telogen effluvium). The results of the studies analyzed reveal that IMA may be considered a new marker of oxidative stress in dermatological diseases and offer new insights into the pathogenesis of these disorders and the theoretical basis for the development of new, effective, targeted therapies. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review that gathers up data on the role of IMA in dermatological diseases.

Abstract
For a long time, skin was thought to be no more than the barrier of our body. However, in the last few decades, studies into the idea of skin as an independent functional organ have gradually deepened our understanding of skin and its functions. In this review, we gathered evidence that presented skin as a "trinity" of neuro-endocrine-immune function. From a neuro perspective, skin communicates through nerves and receptors, releasing neurotrophins and neuropeptides; from an endocrine perspective, skin is able to receive and secrete most hormones and has the cutaneous equivalent of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis; from an immune perspective, skin is protected not only by its physical barrier, but also immune cells and molecules, which can also cause inflammation. Together as an organ, skin works bidirectionally by operating peripheral neuro-endocrine-immune function and being regulated by the central nervous system, endocrine system and immune system at the same time, maintaining homeostasis. Additionally, to further explain the "trinity" of cutaneous neuro-endocrine-immune function and how it works in disease pathophysiology, a disease model of rosacea is presented.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of lifestyle changes on the severity of psoriasis and the quality of life in patients with psoriasis. Methods For this narrative review, PubMed, Embase and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched for lifestyle intervention studies with an intervention duration of at least 12 weeks. Results Thirty-four intervention studies were included. Most studies performed interventions in the diet of patients with psoriasis (n=9), or added supplements to the diet (n=18). Three studies comprised relaxation techniques and four studies combined relaxation or stress-reducing techniques with an educational program or exercise. No interventional studies were carried out regarding smoking, alcohol and sleep. Especially dietary and relaxation interventions showed promising results with respect to psoriasis severity and dermatology-related QoL, respectively. Regarding dietary supplements, the three largest studies investigating fish oil or vitamin D did not show significant effects. Conclusion There is some evidence that dietary and relaxation interventions could be promising with respect to psoriasis severity and dermatology-related QoL, respectively. Furthermore, our review identified important gaps in psoriasis lifestyle research regarding study design and reporting of outcomes.

Abstract
In the available literature, little attention has been paid to the assessment of psoriasis and the biological therapy used for it and the nervous system. The purpose of this article is to discuss the relationship between psoriasis and the nervous system as well as to analyze the mechanisms that lead to neurological complications during anticytokine therapies in psoriasis. However, this connection requires further analysis. The use of biological drugs in psoriasis, although it yields positive therapeutic results, is not without numerous side effects. Serious neurological side effects of the therapy are most often visible with the use of anti-TNF-alpha, which is why patients should be monitored for their potential occurrence. Early detection of complications and rapid discontinuation of treatment with the drug may potentially increase the patient’s chances of a full recovery or improvement of his/her neurological condition. It also seems reasonable that, in the case of complications occurring during anti-TNF-alpha therapy, some of the drugs from other groups should be included in the therapy.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with systemic manifestation, in which psychological factors play an important role. The etiology of psoriasis is complex and multifactorial, including genetic background and environmental factors such as emotional or physical stress. Psychological stress may also play a role in exacerbation of psoriasis, by dysregulation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, sympathetic–adrenal–medullary axis, peripheral nervous system, and immune system. Skin cells also express various neuropeptides and hormones in response to stress, including the fully functional analog of the HPA axis. The deterioration of psoriatic lesions is accompanied by increased production of inflammatory mediators, which could contribute to the imbalance of neurotransmitters and the development of symptoms of depression and anxiety. Therefore, deregulation of the crosstalk between endocrine, paracrine, and autocrine stress signaling pathways contributes to clinical manifestations of psoriasis, which requires multidisciplinary approaches.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a new form of acute infectious respiratory syndrome first reported in 2019, has rapidly spread worldwide and has been recognized as a pandemic by the WHO. It raised widespread concern about the treatment of psoriasis in this COVID-19 pandemic era, especially on the biologics use for patients with psoriasis. This review will summarize key information that is currently known about the relationship between psoriasis, biological treatments, and COVID-19, and vaccination-related issues. We also provide references for dermatologists and patients when they need to make clinical decisions. Currently, there is no consensus on whether biological agents increase the risk of coronavirus infection; however, current research shows that biological agents have no adverse effects on the prognosis of patients with COVID-19 with psoriasis. In short, it is not recommended to stop biological treatment in patients with psoriasis to prevent the infection risk, and for those patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the decision to pause biologic therapy should be considered on a case-by-case basis, and individual risk and benefit should be taken into account. Vaccine immunization against SARS-CoV-2 is strictly recommendable in patients with psoriasis without discontinuation of their biologics but evaluating the risk-benefit ratio of maintaining biologics before vaccination is mandatory at the moment.

Introduction Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory skin disease affecting 2–4% of the general population, which nowadays is even perceived as a systemic illness. The nature of this dermatosis may negatively influence patients’ general condition, life expectancy, and quality of life, which highlights the severity of the problem and the need to perform further investigation. We aimed to assess quality of life, stress severity, and physical activity of patients with psoriasis in relation to demographic and clinical data and comparison to the control group without dermatoses. Methods A set of surveys was conducted in 56 patients with psoriasis hospitalized at the Department of Dermatology, Medical University of Bialystok. Questionnaires used involved the Dermatology Life Quality Index, WHO Quality of Life questionnaire, International Questionnaire of Physical Activity, and a self-invented stress survey. Obtained data were compared to a sex- and age-matched control group without dermatoses. Statistical analysis was performed using GraphPad Prism. Results Patients with psoriasis were found to be significantly less satisfied with their health and had lower scores in WHO social, environmental, and psychological domains, comparing to controls. Patients reported higher stress severity and lower satisfaction with sex life and physical appearance than controls. Patients with psoriasis also tended to perform less intensive physical activity than controls. Conclusions This study highlights the perception of psoriasis as not only affecting skin but also having a multifactorial impact on psychological and internal condition. Described lifestyle abnormalities can be easily evaluated with validated questionnaires, which could be introduced to patients in order to raise their awareness of comorbidities and mobilize them to modify incorrect lifestyle habits. Screening for other disorders and introduction of a holistic approach to every patient could be beneficial because the improvement of patients’ life quality is one of the most important issues.
