Abstract
Pyrene (Pr) was used to improve the electrochemical and electrochromic properties of polythiophene copolymerized with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT). The corresponding product, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene-co-Pyrene) (P(EDOT-co-Pr)), was successfully synthesized by electrochemical polymerization with different monomer concentrations in propylene carbonate solution containing 0.1 M lithium perchlorate (LiClO4/PC (0.1 M)). The homopolymer and copolymer films were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), color-coordinate and colorimetric methods, cyclic voltammetry (CV), spectroelectrochemistry (SEC), and UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). Homopolymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) and the P(EDOT-co-Pr) copolymer were investigated, which included examining their colorimetric, electrochemical, and electrochromic characteristics. The color shifts resulting from redox reactions of the polymers were also observed. The copolymers with different monomer concentrations achieved multicolor shifts, such as light purple, dark blue, dark red, green, and earthy yellow. Moreover, P(EDOT-co-Pr) had a small optical bandgap (1.74-1.83 eV), excellent optical contrast (31.68-45.96%), and high coloring efficiency (350-507 cm2 C-1). In particular, P(EDOT1-co-Pr3) exhibited outstanding cycling stability, retaining 91% of its initial optical contrast after cycling for 10,000 s, and it is expected to be a promising candidate copolymer for electrochromic applications.

Abstract
Nitrate reduction in bio-electrochemical systems (BESs) has attracted wide attention due to its low sludge yields and cost-efficiency advantages. However, the high resistance of traditional electrodes is considered to limit the denitrification performance of BESs. Herein, a new graphene/polypyrrole (rGO/PPy) modified electrode is fabricated via one-step electrodeposition and used as cathode in BES for improving nitrate removal from wastewater. The formation and morphological results support the successful formation of rGO/PPy nanohybrids and confirm the part covalent bonding of Py into GO honeycomb lattices to form a three-dimensional cross-linked spatial structure. The electrochemical tests indicate that the rGO/PPy electrode outperforms the unmodified electrode due to the 3.9-fold increase in electrochemical active surface area and 6.9-fold decrease in the charge transfer resistance (Rct). Batch denitrification activity tests demonstrate that the BES equipped with modified rGO/PPy biocathode could not only achieve the full denitrification efficiency of 100% with energy recovery (15.9 × 10-2 ± 0.14 A/m2), but also favor microbial attach and growth with improved biocompatible surface. This work provides a feasible electrochemical route to fabricate and design a high-performance bioelectrode to enhance denitrification in BESs.

Abstract
Flexible electronic products, with their characteristics of flexibility and wearability, have attracted significant attention and have become an important direction in the research and development of the electronics industry. Planar micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) with flexible composite electrodes can provide reliable energy support for these products, propelling their further development. The research employed a quick, effective, and environmentally friendly method of laser scribing to create shape-controllable flexible composite electrodes on composite films of Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) and graphene oxide (PEDOT/GO), which were subsequently assembled into MSCs. An analysis of the composite electrode morphology, structure, and elemental distribution was conducted through the utilization of SEM, TEM, and XPS techniques. Following this, a comprehensive evaluation of the electrochemical performance of the flexible MSCs was carried out, which included cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD), and assessment of cyclic stability. The analysis of the CV results indicated that the MSCs achieved the areal capacitance of 5.78 mF/cm2 at 5 mV/s. After 5000 cycles at a current density of 0.05 mA/cm2, the capacitance retention rate was 85.4%. The high areal capacitance and strong cycle stability of MSCs highlight the potential of PEDOT/reduced graphene oxide (PEDOT/rGO) electrodes in electrode applications.

Abstract
Graphene-based nanocomposites are developing as a new class of materials with several uses. The varied weight percentages of rGO on Ag2S catalysts were synthesized using a simple hydrothermal process and employed for the decomposition of anionic dye naphthol green B (NGB) under solar light. The reduced graphene oxide-based silver sulfide (rGO/Ag2S) nanoparticles were then examined using XRD, SEM, EDS, HR-TEM, XPS, UV-DRS, and PL analysis. Using solar light, the photocatalytic activity of the produced catalyst was examined for the degradation of naphthol green B (NGB) in an aqueous solution. At pH 9, rGO/Ag2S is discovered to be more effective than the other catalysts for the NGB dye mineralization. Analyses have been conducted on the influence of operational parameters on the photo-mineralization of NGB, including the initial pH, initial dye concentration, and catalyst dosage. The dye concentration increased; the efficiency of photocatalytic degradation tended to decrease. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) studies have verified the NGB dye mineralization. Active species trapping revealed that holes, hydroxyl radicals, and superoxide radicals all played major roles in the photocatalytic deterioration of NGB processes. Additionally, a potential mechanism of NGB dye degradation by rGO/Ag2S catalyst is presented. The synthesized compound was further evaluated for antibacterial activity, and the results indicated that rGO/Ag2S were potentially effective antibacterial agents.

Interfacial Electronic Interaction in In 2O 3/Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-Modified Carbon Heterostructures for Enhanced Electroreduction of CO 2 to Formate. Abstract
Formate, as an important chemical raw material, is considered to be one of the most promising products for industrialization among CO2 electroreduction reaction (CO2RR) products, but it still suffers from poor selectivity and a low formation rate at a high current density on account of the competitory hydrogen evolution reaction. Herein, the heterogeneous nanostructure was constructed by anchoring In2O3 nanoparticles on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)-modified carbon black (In2O3/PC), in which the PEDOT polymer interface layer could immobilize In2O3 nanoparticles and obtain a notable reduction in electron transfer resistance among the In2O3 particles, showing a 27% increase in the total electron transfer rate. The optimized In2O3/PC with rich heterogeneous interfaces selectively reduced CO2 to formate with a high FE of 95.4% and a current density of 251.4 mA cm-2 under -1.18 V vs RHE. Also, the formate production rate for In2O3/PC was up to 7025.1 μmol h-1 cm-2, surpassing most previously reported CO2RR catalysts. The in situ XRD results revealed that In2O3 particles were reduced to metallic indium (In) as catalytic active sites during CO2RR. DFT calculations verified that a strong interface interaction between In sites and PC induced electron transfer from In sites to PC, which could optimize the charge distribution of active sites, accelerate electron transfer, and elevate the p-band center of In sites toward the Fermi level, thereby lowering the adsorption energy of *OCHO intermediates for CO2 conversion to formate.

Abstract
Graphene hydrogel (GH) and aerogel (GA) have great application potential as highly effective adsorbents, but the accessibility of their adsorption sites have not yet been identified, restricting our understanding on the adsorption mechanisms and manufacturing. This study comparatively studied the adsorption characteristics of bisphenol A (BPA) and naphthalene (NAP) on GH and GA, focussing on the accessibility of the adsorption sites. The adsorption of BPA on GA was much lower but faster than that on GH. NAP adsorption on GA was very close to that on GH but faster than that on the latter. Considering that NAP is volatilisable, we speculate that some unwetted sites in the air-enclosed pores are available to it, but not to BPA. We applied ultrasonic and vacuum treatments to remove the air in GA pores, which was verified using a CO2 replacement experiment. BPA adsorption was greatly enhanced but slowed, while that of NAP was not enhanced. This phenomenon suggested that some inner pores became accessible in the aqueous phase after air removal from pores. The enhanced accessibility of air-enclosed pores was verified by the increased relaxation rate of surface-bounded water on GA, based on a 1H NMR relaxation analysis. This study highlights that the accessibility of adsorption site plays a crucial role for the adsorption properties of carbon-based aerogel. The volatile chemicals may be quickly adsorbed in the air-enclosed pores, which be useful for immobilizing volatile contaminants.

Abstract
The large specific surface area and high conductivity of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) make it a promising material for supercapacitors. However, aggregation of graphene sheets into graphitic domains upon drying hampers supercapacitor performance by drastically impeding ion transport inside electrodes. Here, we present a facile approach to optimize charge storage performance in RGO-based supercapacitors by systematically tuning their micropore structure. To this end, we combine RGOs with room temperature ionic liquids during electrode processing to impede stacking of sheets into graphitic structures with small interlayer distance. In this process, RGO sheets function as the active electrode material while ionic liquid serves both as a charge carrier and a spacer to control interlayer spacing inside electrodes and form ion transport channels. We show that composite RGO/ionic liquid electrodes with larger interlayer spacing and more ordered structure exhibit improved capacitance and charging kinetics.

Abstract
In this work the nanocomposite of vanadium oxide with conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (VO@PEDOT) was obtained by microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis. The detailed study of its structural and electrochemical properties as cathode of aqueous zinc-ion battery was performed by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The initial VO@PEDOT composite has layered nanosheets structure with thickness of about 30-80 nm, which are assembled into wavy agglomerated thicker layers of up to 0.3-0.6 μm. The phase composition of the samples was determined by XRD analysis which confirmed lamellar structure of vanadium oxide V10O24∙12H2O with interlayer distance of about 13.6 Å. The VO@PEDOT composite demonstrates excellent electrochemical performance, reaching specific capacities of up to 390 mA∙h∙g-1 at 0.3 A∙g-1. Moreover, the electrodes retain specific capacity of 100 mA∙h∙g-1 at a high current density of 20 A∙g-1. The phase transformations of VO@PEDOT electrodes during the cycling were studied at different degrees of charge/discharge by using ex situ XRD measurements. The results of ex situ XRD allow us to conclude that the reversible zinc ion intercalation occurs in stable zinc pyrovanadate structures formed during discharge.

Abstract
This work demonstrates ionic liquid electrolyte-inscribed sweat-based dual electrolyte functioning supercapacitors capable of self-charging through sweat electrolyte function under a non-enzymatic route. The supercapacitor electrodes are fabricated from TREN (tris(2-aminoethyl)amine), poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene, and a graphene oxide mixture with copper-mediated chelate, and this polymer-GO-metal chelate film can produce excellent energy harvest/storage performance from a sweat and ionic liquid integrated electrolyte system. The fabricated device is specifically designed to reduce deterioration using a typical planar structure. In the presence of sweat with ionic liquid, the dual electrolyte mode supercapacitor exhibits a maximum areal capacitance of 3600 mF cm-2 , and the energy density is 450 mWhcm-2 , which is more than 100 times greater than that from previously reported supercapacitors. The supercapacitors were fabricated/attached directly to textile fabrics as well as ITO-PET (Indium tin oxide (ITO)-polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film to study their performance on the human body during exercise. The self-charging performance with respect to sweat wetting time for the sweat@ionic liquid dual electrolyte showed that the supercapacitor performed well on both fabric and film. These devices exhibited good response for pH effect and biocompatibility, and as such present a promising multi-functional energy system as a stable power source for next-generation wearable smart electronics.

Abstract
Nitrate pollution is eminent in almost all the developing nations as a result of increased natural activities apart from anthropogenic pollution. The release of nitrates in more than critical quantities into the water bodies causes accretion impacts on living creatures, environmental receptors, and human vigour by accumulation through the food chain. Nitrates have recently acquired researchers' huge attention and extend their roots in environmental contamination of surface and groundwater systems. The presence of nitrate in high concentrations in surface and groundwater triggers several health problems, for instance, methemoglobinemia, diabetes, eruption of infectious disorders, harmfully influence aquatic organisms. Sensing nitrate is an alternate option for monitoring the distribution of nitrate in different water bodies. Here we review electrochemical, spectroscopic, and electrical modes of nitrate sensing. It is concluded that, among the various sensors discussed in this review, FET sensors are the most desirable choice. Their sensitivity, ease of use and scope for miniaturisation are exceptional. Advanced functional materials need to be designed to satiate the growing need for environmental monitoring. Different sources of nitrate contamination in ground and surface water can be estimated using different techniques such as nitrate isotopic composition, co contaminants, water tracers, and other specialized techniques. This review intends to explore the research work on remediation of nitrate from wastewater and soil using different processes such as reverse osmosis, chemical denitrification, biological denitrification, ion exchange, electrodialysis, and adsorption. Denitrification proves as a promising alternative over previously reported techniques in terms of their nitrate removal because of its high cost-effectiveness.

Abstract
Polymer/graphene oxide (GO) composites, which combine the physical properties of GO and the processability of polymers, are of increasing interest in a variety of applications ranging from conductive foams, sensors, to bioelectronics. However, the preparation of these composites through physical blending demands the polymers with functional groups that interact strongly with the GO. Here the design and synthesis of a new bifunctional reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agent are demonstrated, which allows the synthesis of polymers with predetermined molecular weights and low dispersibilities (Ð), while having functionalities at both polymer termini that allow strong binding to GO. To access polymers with diverse thermal and mechanical properties, acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate (ASA) copolymers with different types of acrylates, both short and long side chains, are synthesized under the control of the bifunctional RAFT agent. Furthermore, the strong binding between GO and the synthesized polymers is verified and explored to prepare polymer/GO composites with diverse tensile strengths and conductivity in the range of semiconductors. Overall, this novel RAFT agent is expected to expand the utility of polymer/GO composites by providing well-defined polymers with tunable properties and strong binding with GO.

Abstract
The concept of this paper was to explore the comparative advantage of polymer composite in the formation of a critical part of electrodes, separators, and electrolytes. These parts largely determine the overall performance of new evolving supercapacitors (SC) as against many other existing storage devices. Polymer materials are reputed for their low weight and life-cycle flexibility which makes supercapacitors unique in their functions. In this paper, application and classification of SCs were undertaken to take into consideration the peculiarities of polymer composite suitable for each class of SCs identified in this work. Part of the rationale of this review paper was to bridge the existing gap identified in many storage devices using salient properties inherent in light-weight materials. This paper also discussed the potential threats to SCs, which require further research works. It is expected that this paper would assist other researchers in evolving SCs devoid of low cell voltages, lower energy density, and reduction of production cost.

Abstract
Heteroatom functionalization on a graphene surface can endow the physical and structural properties of graphene. Here, a one-step in situ polymerization method was used for the noncovalent functionalization of a graphene surface with poly-N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (PNVP) and the exfoliation of graphite into graphene sheets. The obtained graphene/poly-N-vinyl pyrrolidone (GPNVP) composite was thoroughly characterized. The surface morphology of GPNVP was observed using field emission scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction studies were carried out to check for the exfoliation of graphite into graphene sheets. Thermogravimetric analysis was performed to calculate the amount of PNVP on the graphene surface in the GPNVP composite. The successful formation of the GPNVP composite and functionalization of the graphene surface was confirmed by various studies. The cyclic voltammetry measurement at different scan rates (5–500 mV/s) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy study of the GPNVP composite were performed in the typical three-electrode system. The GPNVP composite has excellent rate capability with the capacitive property. This study demonstrates the one-pot preparation of exfoliation and functionalization of a graphene surface with the heterocyclic polymer PNVP; the resulting GPNVP composite will be an ideal candidate for various electrochemical applications.

Abstract
Nanocarbon materials present sp2-carbon domains skilled for electrochemical energy conversion or storage applications. In this work, we investigate graphene oxide nanofibers (GONFs) as a recent interesting carbon material class. This material combines the filamentous morphology of the starting carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and the interlayer spacing of graphene oxide, and exhibits a domain arrangement accessible for fast transport of electrons and ions. Reduced GONFs (RGONFs) present the partial removal of basal functional groups, resulting in higher mesoporosity, turbostratic stacking, and surface chemistry less restrictive for transport phenomena. Besides, the filament morphology minimizes the severe layer restacking shown in the reduction of conventional graphene oxide sheets. The influence of the reduction temperature (140-220 °C) on the electrochemical behaviour in aqueous 0.5 M H2SO4 of RGONFs is reported. RGONFs present an improved capacitance up to 16 times higher than GONFs, ascribed to the unique structure of RGONFs containing accessible turbostratic domains and restored electronic conductivity. Hydrothermal reduction at 140 °C results in the highest capacitance as evidenced by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements (up to 137 F·g-1). Higher temperatures lead to the removal of sulphur groups and slightly thicker graphite domains, and consequently a decrease of the capacitance.

Abstract
In recent years, numerous discoveries and investigations have been remarked for the development of carbon-based polymer nanocomposites. Carbon-based materials and their composites hold encouraging employment in a broad array of fields, for example, energy storage devices, fuel cells, membranes sensors, actuators, and electromagnetic shielding. Carbon and its derivatives exhibit some remarkable features such as high conductivity, high surface area, excellent chemical endurance, and good mechanical durability. On the other hand, characteristics such as docility, lower price, and high environmental resistance are some of the unique properties of conducting polymers (CPs). To enhance the properties and performance, polymeric electrode materials can be modified suitably by metal oxides and carbon materials resulting in a composite that helps in the collection and accumulation of charges due to large surface area. The carbon-polymer nanocomposites assist in overcoming the difficulties arising in achieving the high performance of polymeric compounds and deliver high-performance composites that can be used in electrochemical energy storage devices. Carbon-based polymer nanocomposites have both advantages and disadvantages, so in this review, attempts are made to understand their synergistic behavior and resulting performance. The three electrochemical energy storage systems and the type of electrode materials used for them have been studied here in this article and some aspects for example morphology, exterior area, temperature, and approaches have been observed to influence the activity of electrochemical methods. This review article evaluates and compiles reported data to present a significant and extensive summary of the state of the art.
