Abstract
A systematic review was conducted to assess evidence on effectiveness of community-based interventions promoting wellbeing and prevention of type 2 diabetes (T2D) among Indigenous youth. A convergent, segregated, mixed methods approach was used, with six databases and four grey literature sites searched from inception to May 2022. Articles selected for inclusion were about community-based interventions related to T2D prevention with Indigenous youth that evaluated effectiveness or youth experience published in English. Reference lists were also searched for relevant sources. Seven quantitative research articles met the inclusion and quality assessment criteria. No qualitative articles were identified. The results were synthesised through narrative analysis, while meta-analysis was not possible due to heterogenous study designs. Common foci across interventions included promoting physical wellness, improving physical activity and healthy eating patterns, enhancing knowledge, and psychosocial wellness. Interventions deemed effective addressed multiple areas, were school-based, and operated for at least a year. Findings support multi-strategy, community-based interventions implemented over longer periods of time. However, gaps in research and reporting included the extent to which interventions are culturally informed and based on community-driven priorities. Future research should include Indigenous, mixed and qualitative methods and Indigenous-driven measures of success to better understand effectiveness in alignment with Indigenous worldviews.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES There is an increasing trend of pre-diabetes and diabetes mellitus (DM) among adolescents, and sub-Saharan Africa is no exception. However, few published data on pre-diabetes among adolescents in Sudan exist. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of and factors associated with pre-diabetes among adolescents in Eastern Sudan. DESIGN A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from August to October 2023. SETTINGS This community-based study was conducted in Gadarif city, the capital of Gadarif state, Eastern Sudan. PARTICIPANTS Adolescents (within the ages of 10-19 years). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES A questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic information. Anthropometric and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) measurements were performed in accordance with standard procedures. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed. RESULTS Of the 387 enrolled adolescents, 207 (53.5%) were female and 180 (46.5%) were male. The median (IQR) age was 14.0 (12.0-16.0) years. 39.5% of the participants' fathers were employed. The median (IQR) HbA1c was 5.5% (5.2%-5.8%). One-third (32.6%) of the adolescents had pre-diabetes or DM. Of the participants, 67.4%, 30.0% and 2.6% had no DM, pre-diabetes or type 2 DM, respectively. In the univariate analysis, the father's employment (OR=1.60, 95% CI=1.03 to 2.50) was associated with increased odds of pre-diabetes; age, sex, parents' education, the mother's occupation, body mass index z-score, cigarette smoking and a family history of DM were not associated with pre-diabetes. In the multivariate analysis, the father's employment (adjusted OR=1.70, 95% CI=1.03 to 2.50) was associated with increased odds of pre-diabetes. CONCLUSION Pre-diabetes is a significant public health problem among adolescents in Eastern Sudan. The introduction of early screening programmes for pre-diabetes at the community level is recommended to halt the progression of pre-diabetes to DM and to deal with existing DM among adolescents.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most common metabolic diseases in the world and poses a significant public health challenge. Early detection and management of this metabolic disorder is crucial to prevent complications and improve outcomes. This paper aims to find core differences in male and female markers to detect T2DM by their clinic and anthropometric features, seeking out ranges in potential biomarkers identified to provide useful information as a pre-diagnostic tool whie excluding glucose-related biomarkers using machine learning (ML) models. We used a dataset containing clinical and anthropometric variables from patients diagnosed with T2DM and patients without TD2M as control. We applied feature selection with three different techniques to identify relevant biomarker models: an improved recursive feature elimination (RFE) evaluating each set from all the features to one feature with the Akaike information criterion (AIC) to find optimal outputs; Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) with glmnet; and Genetic Algorithms (GA) with GALGO and forward selection (FS) applied to GALGO output. We then used these for comparison with the AIC to measure the performance of each technique and collect the optimal set of global features. Then, an implementation and comparison of five different ML models was carried out to identify the most accurate and interpretable one, considering the following models: logistic regression (LR), artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), and nearest centroid (Nearcent). The models were then combined in an ensemble to provide a more robust approximation. The results showed that potential biomarkers such as systolic blood pressure (SBP) and triglycerides are together significantly associated with T2DM. This approach also identified triglycerides, cholesterol, and diastolic blood pressure as biomarkers with differences between male and female actors that have not been previously reported in the literature. The most accurate ML model was selection with RFE and random forest (RF) as the estimator improved with the AIC, which achieved an accuracy of 0.8820. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the potential of ML models in identifying potential biomarkers for early detection of T2DM, excluding glucose-related biomarkers as well as differences between male and female anthropometric and clinic profiles. These findings may help to improve early detection and management of the T2DM by accounting for differences between male and female subjects in terms of anthropometric and clinic profiles, potentially reducing healthcare costs and improving personalized patient attention. Further research is needed to validate these potential biomarkers ranges in other populations and clinical settings.

Abstract
Background India is witnessing an epidemic of type 2 diabetes. Overweight/obesity, overnutrition, physical inactivity, and family history are well-known risk factors for diabetes. We investigated the role of undernutrition in the development of diabetes among rural adolescent girls. Methods DERVAN cohort study was set up in the KONKAN region of the western Indian state of Maharashtra. It enrolled 1,520 adolescent girls (16-18 years old at the time of enrollment). We measured glycemic parameters (glucose, insulin, and HbA1C) and body size using anthropometry and body composition using bioimpedance. Prediabetes was diagnosed using the American Diabetic Association (ADA) criteria. We also calculated various HOMA indices for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), β-cell function (HOMA-β), insulin sensitivity (HOMA-S), and compensatory β-cell response using a homeostasis model. BMI, body fat%, and waist circumferences were treated as exposures and all the glycemic parameters and indices as outcomes. Results The median age of the subjects was 16.6 years. The median weight, height, and BMI were 40.7 kg, 151.7 cm, and 17.5 kg/m2, respectively. Prevalence of underweight was 28.8%, and stunting was observed in 30.4%. Thinness and obesity using BMI were observed in 58.4% and 4.2%, respectively. The median body fat% was 22.5, and excess body fat (>35%) was observed in 5.7%. The prevalence of prediabetes was 39.4%. Fasting insulin concentrations, HOMA-IR, and HOMA-β showed a positive trend across body composition quartiles (p < 0.001). HOMA-S and compensatory β-cell response showed an inverse trend (p < 0.001). Compared with prediabetic girls in the overweight/obese group, girls most undernourished group had lower median insulin concentrations (8.1 μIU/ml vs. 17.1 μIU/ml), lower HOMA-IR (1.1 vs. 2.3), and lower HOMA-β (75.6 vs. 129.2) but higher sensitivity (87.4 vs. 43.7) (p < 0.001) for all. Conclusion We have reported a high prevalence of prediabetes among rural adolescent girls with a very low prevalence of obesity. Prediabetes in obesity is driven by hyperinsulinemia and overworking of the pancreas while poor β-cell function and poor insulin secretion are major drivers in the undernourished group. The high-risk diabetes screening programs are much needed for the undernourished populations. Caution should be exercised for planning the interventions as overfeeding (or overnutrition) is likely to put the populations at risk of development of obesity and insulin resistance.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pre-diabetes is a metabolic condition characterised by moderate glycaemic dysregulation and is a frontline risk factor for multiple metabolic complications such as type 2 diabetes mellitus. To the best of our knowledge, this will be the first systematic review and meta-analysis focusing on generating a comprehensive pooling of studies reporting on pre-diabetes prevalence in South Africa. Therefore, the review's purpose will be to screen and select reports that can be used to synthesise and provide the best estimate prevalence of pre-diabetes and its associated correlates in the South African population. METHODS AND ANALYSIS To determine the prevalence and correlates of pre-diabetes in South Africa, we searched PubMed, Web of Science, Google scholar and African Journal online for published or unpublished studies reporting the prevalence of pre-diabetes in South Africa starting from the year 2000 to 2020. Studies were assessed for eligibility by checking if they met the inclusion criteria. RESULTS & CONCLUSION The total number of studies deemed eligible is 13 and from these studies, an overall prevalence of pre-diabetes was reported to be 15,56% in the South African population. Hypertension, obesity and sedentary lifestyle were the common correlates recorded for the population of interest. Therefore, the review highlights the disturbingly high prevalence of pre-diabetes in South Africa and necessitates further investigations into the possible genetics, biochemical and hormonal changes in pre-diabetes. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The review will not require ethics clearance because non-identifiable data will be used. The review outcomes will give insight into the current burden that pre-diabetes has in South Africa. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42020182430.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Pre-diabetes has been identified as an intermediate diagnosis and a sign of a relatively high chance of developing diabetes in the future. Diabetes has become one of the most frequent chronic disorders in children and adolescents around the world; therefore, predicting the onset of pre-diabetes allows a person at risk to make efforts to avoid or restrict disease progression. This research aims to create and implement a cross-validated machine learning model that can predict pre-diabetes using non-invasive methods. METHODS We have analysed the national representative dataset of children and adolescents (5-19 years) to develop a machine learning model for non-invasive pre-diabetes screening. Based on HbA1c levels the data (n = 26,567) was segregated into normal (n = 23,777) and pre-diabetes (n = 2790). We have considered eight features, six hyper-tuned machine learning models and different metrics for model evaluation. The final model was selected based on the area under the receiver operator curve (AUC), Cohen's kappa and cross-validation score. The selected model was integrated into the screening tool for automated pre-diabetes prediction. RESULTS The XG boost classifier was the best model, including all eight features. The 10-fold cross-validation score was highest for the XG boost model (90.13%) and least for the support vector machine (61.17%). The AUC was highest for RF (0.970), followed by GB (0.968), XGB (0.959), ETC (0.918), DT (0.908), and SVM (0.574) models. The XGB model was used to develop the screening tool. CONCLUSION We have developed and deployed a machine learning model for automated real-time pre-diabetes screening. The screening tool can be used over computers and can be transformed into software for easy usage. The detection of pre-diabetes in the pediatric age may help avoid its enhancement. Machine learning can also show great competence in determining important features in pre-diabetes.

Abstract
PURPOSE Since the dramatic rise of obesity prevalence in childhood and adolescence has contributed to increased rates of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in youth, we sought to explore current evidence-based management options for pediatric T2D patients. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was performed for studies of T2D in childhood and adolescence until September 2021. RESULTS Special pathophysiological and diagnostic characteristics of T2D in this age are presented, while the main focus of the article is on management. Lifestyle interventions with healthy diet and exercise are of great importance for the treatment of T2D in children and adolescents. Metformin and insulin remain the traditional therapeutical means, while liraglutide recently gained indication for children older than 10 years both in USA and Europe. Data on the use, efficacy, safety and therapeutic considerations of other pharmacological treatments in children and adolescents with T2D are critically discussed. CONCLUSION Although many new and promising therapeutic strategies have been introduced during recent years for the management of T2D in adults, available therapeutic options for the management of pediatric T2D remain limited.

Abstract
Background The incidence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in adolescents is increasing, affecting the overall health and quality of life of adolescents and their families. Despite the serious health consequences of T2D, few studies have explored the role of parents in the prevention of prediabetes and T2D in adolescents. Thus, the purpose was to better understand parents’ insights into strategies needed for the development of interventions to prevent prediabetes and T2D in their adolescents and families. Methods Thorne’s Interpretive Description approach was used to guide this second phase of a two-phase study. Using purposeful sampling, parents (n = 12) of adolescents at high risk for developing T2D were interviewed. This study was conducted in accordance with the standards for reporting qualitative research. Results Two themes and multiple subthemes emerged: Parents’ Understanding of T2D (High Blood Sugar, Severe Health Impacts, and Managing Your Diet) and It Takes a Village (The Onus is on the Adolescent, Starts at Home with the Parents, We Need More Support, and Getting the Message in Their Face). Conclusions These qualitative data were insightful as findings highlighted the parents’ predominant lack of basic knowledge, life skills, and/or resources to prevent prediabetes and T2D in adolescents. The results provided target areas for education and emphasized the importance of using social media as an approach to disseminate important information to adolescents. Parents also identified strategies for prevention interventions for adolescents surrounding prediabetes and T2D that may be effective. Given the increased prevalence of T2D in adolescents, these results are timely and confirm the urgent need for interventions to prevent pediatric prediabetes and T2D. Future research will include the co-design, piloting, and evaluation of feasible family-centered interventions grounded in participants’ experiences and suggestions that are reflective of person-centred goals and needs of adolescents.

Abstract
Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and diabetes mellitus (DM) remain high morbidity and mortality, especially when they are comorbid with each other. Screening for diabetes mellitus in tuberculosis is essential as the incidence and mortality of DM in the population with PTB are higher than in the general people. We aimed to examine the gradient association of tuberculosis on developing DM, the additional yield and the number needed to screen (NNS) to find a new diabetes case. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 801 tuberculosis cases and 972 household contacts in Guizhou, China, from April 2019 to October 2020. After screening for PTB among contacts, all participants were screened for DM and interviewed. Kendall's tau-b test and proportional odds logistic regression analysis were applied to identify the gradient associations. Among the 1773 subjects, the additional yield of screening was 21.8%. The NNSs of the non-PTB group, the sputum-culture negative and positive groups were 50, 60 and 113, respectively. The gradient incremental establishment of DM and PTB were positively correlated. The general trend on the gradient of DM significantly increased with the gradient increase of PTB. Age 35 years and over, excessive edible oil intake and DM family history were identified as significant predictors of diabetes. Integrated screening for DM targeted to different gradients of PTB combined with associated factors is necessitated to achieve a higher additional yield.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pre-diabetes is a metabolic condition characterised by moderate glycaemic dysregulation and is a front-line risk factor to multiple metabolic complications such as overt diabetes. To the best of our knowledge, this will be the first systematic review and meta-analysis that focuses on generating a comprehensive pooling of studies that report on the pre-diabetes prevalence in South Africa. Therefore, the review's purpose will be to screen and elect reports that can be used to synthesise and provide the best estimate prevalence and correlate of pre-diabetes in the South African population. METHODS AND ANALYSIS To determine the prevalence and correlates of pre-diabetes in South African, we will search PubMed, Embase and African Journal online for published or unpublished studies reporting the prevalence of pre-diabetes in South Africa starting from the year 2000 to 2020. Studies will be assessed for eligibility by checking if they meet the inclusion criteria. Eligible studies will undergo data extraction and risk of bias assessment. We will perform a subgroup analysis to detect probable causes of heterogeneity. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The review will not require ethics clearance because non-identifiable data will be used. The review outcomes will give more insight into the current burden that pre-diabetes has in South Africa. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42020182430.

Abstract
Objective: to identify the risk factors associated with prehypertension and arterial
hypertension among Munduruku indigenous people in the Brazilian Amazon. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out with 459 Munduruku indigenous people
selected by means of stratified random sampling. Sociodemographic variables,
habits and lifestyles, anthropometric data, fasting glucose and lipid
profiles were evaluated. An automatic device calibrated and validated to
measure blood pressure was used. The analyses of the data collected were
carried out in the R software, version 3.5.1. For continuous variables, the
Kruskall-Wallis test was used; for the categorical ones, Fischer’s Exact.
The significance level was set at 5% and p-value≤0.05. Results: the prevalence of altered blood pressure levels was 10.2% for values
suggestive of hypertension and 4.1% for pre-hypertension. The risk of
prehypertension among indigenous people was associated with being male
(OR=1.65; 95% CI=0.65-4.21) and having a substantially increased waist
circumference (OR=7.82; 95% CI=1.80-34.04). Regarding the risk for arterial
hypertension, it was associated with age (OR=1.09; 95% CI=1.06-1.12), with
increased waist circumference (OR=3.89; 95% CI=1.43-10, 54) and with
substantially increased waist circumference (OR=5.46; 95%
CI=1.78-16.75). Conclusion: among Munduruku indigenous people, men were more vulnerable to developing
hypertension; age and increased waist circumference proved to be strong
cardiovascular risk factors.

Abstract
The goal is to examine the risk of conception mode-type-1 diabetes using different survival analysis modelling approaches and examine if there are differentials in the risk of type-1 diabetes between children from fresh and frozen-thawed embryo transfers. We aimed to compare the performances and fitness of different survival analysis regression models with the Cox proportional hazard (CPH) model used in an earlier study. The effect of conception modes and other prognostic factors on type-1 diabetes among children conceived either spontaneously or by assisted reproductive technology (ART) and its sub-groups was modelled in the earlier study. We used the information on all singleton children from the Swedish Medical Birth Register hosted by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, 1985 to 2015. The main explanatory variable was the mode of conception. We applied the CPH, parametric and flexible parametric survival regression (FPSR) models to the data at 5% significance level. Loglikelihood, Akaike and Bayesian information criteria were used to assess model fit. Among the 3,138,540 singletons, 47,938 (1.5%) were conceived through ART (11,211 frozen-thawed transfer and 36,727 fresh embryo transfer). In total, 18,118 (0.58%) of the children had type-1 diabetes, higher among (0.58%) those conceived spontaneously than the ART-conceived (0.42%). The median (Interquartile range (IQR)) age at onset of type-1 diabetes among spontaneously conceived children was 10 (14-6) years, 8(5-12) for ART, 6 (4-10) years for frozen-thawed embryo transfer and 9 (5-12) years for fresh embryo transfer. The estimates from the CPH, FPSR and parametric PH models are similar. There was no significant difference in the risk of type-1 diabetes among ART- and spontaneously conceived children; FPSR: (adjusted Hazard Ratio (aHR) = 1.070; 95% Confidence Interval (CI):0.929-1.232, p = 0.346) vs CPH: (aHR = 1.068; 95%CI: 0.927-1.230, p = 0.361). A sub-analysis showed that the adjusted hazard of type-1 diabetes was 37% (aHR = 1.368; 95%CI: 1.013-1.847, p = 0.041) higher among children from frozen-thawed embryo transfer than among children from spontaneous conception. The hazard of type-1 diabetes was higher among children whose mothers do not smoke (aHR = 1.296; 95%CI:1.240-1.354, p<0.001) and of diabetic mothers (aHR = 6.419; 95%CI:5.852-7.041, p<0.001) and fathers (aHR = 8.808; 95%CI:8.221-9.437, p<0.001). The estimates from the CPH, parametric models and the FPSR model were close. This is an indication that the models performed similarly and any of them can be used to model the data. We couldn't establish that ART increases the risk of type-1 diabetes except when it is subdivided into its two subtypes. There is evidence of a greater risk of type-1 diabetes when conception is through frozen-thawed transfer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Our aim in this study was to describe the clinical and social characteristics of 2 Canadian cohorts of adolescents with diabetes. METHODS Participants from the Improving renal Complications in Adolescents with type 2 diabetes through REsearch (iCARE) study (n=322) and the Early Determinants of Cardio-Renal Disease in Youth With Type 1 Diabetes (n=199) study were compared. RESULTS Adolescents were 10 to 18 years of age (mean ± standard deviation: 14.8±2.4 years). The T2DM cohort had a shorter duration of diabetes. Both groups had glycated hemoglobin levels above target. The type 2 diabetes (T2D) cohort was comprised of predominantly Indigenous youth. The type 1 diabetes (T1D) cohort was 58.3% European/Caucasian, with a high proportion (41.7%) of visible minority groups (Afro-Caribbean, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic). The prevalence of obesity, hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy, albuminuria and hyperfiltration was higher in the T2D cohort. The T1D cohort was more socially and economically advantaged in all 4 dimensions of health inequality. CONCLUSIONS There are significant differences in clinical and social characteristics of adolescents with T2D and T1D in Canada. Both have inadequate glycemic control with evidence of onset and progression of diabetes-related complications.

Abstract
Background Overweight and obesity have become a major health issue in the past 30 years. Several studies have already shown that obesity is significantly associated with a higher risk of developing breast cancer. However, few studies have assessed the prognostic value of the body mass index (BMI) in Asian populations. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze the impact of BMI on the prognosis of breast cancer in overweight, under 160 cm tall patients from southern China. Methods We retrospectively analyzed data from 525 breast cancer patients diagnosed between 2003 to 2010 in a multi-center of China. After applying the exclusion criteria, 315 patients with complete data were retained. Their clinical and pathological characteristics were compared using the chi-square test. Survival analysis was performed with the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using Cox regression to calculate hormone receptor status, HER-2 status, lymph node status, age, BMI and tumor size hazard ratio (HR), and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results There was a strong correlation between BMI and age in the baseline feature analysis (P=0.001). After grouping the patients according to the molecular type of cancer, we found that in Luminal A and B, the BMI was related to age (P=0.002, P=0.010). The disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of patients with different BMI were not significantly different. This conclusion was also reached by pairwise comparison of subgroups. There was no significant difference in recurrence in patients from different BMI groups. We did not find a critical weight threshold associated with higher risk of recurrence. There were no statistically significant differences in treatment among the three BMI groups of overweight patients. Conclusions We found that the BMI of Chinese breast cancer patients is related to age but not prognosis.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of resistance exercise (RE) intensity on acute hyperglycemia, in young adult males. Thirteen males (age 23.43 ± 2.18 years, height 175.16 ± 10.44 cm, weight 77.02 ± 8.91 kg, body fat 20 ± 0.03%) participated in three randomized testing sessions, each separated by 96 h. The three testing conditions were: control (CON; induction of hyperglycemia with no-exercise), high (HI; induction of hyperglycemia followed by high-intensity RE: 5 × 4, 90% 1-repetition maximum (1-RM)), and moderate (MO; induction of hyperglycemia followed by low-intensity RE: 3 × 14, 65% 1-RM). In all three testing conditions, participants orally ingested a D100 (100 g/10 oz) glucose beverage at a dosage of 2 g glucose/kg body weight and capillary blood was obtained for plasma glucose and insulin analysis at 0 (fasting), 30, 60, 90 and 120 min, following glucose ingestion. At 30-min post-ingestion in the HI and MO conditions, participants began the respective RE protocols. Acute hyperglycemia was achieved throughout all three 2-h testing conditions; mean 2-h plasma glucose levels during CON (7.1 ± 1.3 mmol∙L-1), MO (7.5 ± 0.6 mmol∙L-1) and HI (8.2 ± 1.9 mmol∙L-1) were all significantly (p < 0.05) greater than mean fasting plasma glucose (5.6 ± 0.46 mmol∙L-1). Plasma glucose and insulin did not differ (p < 0.05) between treatment conditions at any times points over the 120 min, however, 2-h glucose area under the curve in the HI condition was significantly greater (p < 0.05) than CON and MO. In conclusion, this study indicates that hyperglycemia, induced prior to RE, may be exacerbated by high-intensity RE.

Abstract
Introduction Chronic disease prevalence among young people is understudied generally and specifically for Native Hawaiian, Filipino, and Pacific Islander youth who are at high risk for these conditions. We determined the statewide prevalence of chronic diseases in acute care for those aged 5 to 29 years, including Native Hawaiians, Filipinos, and Pacific Islanders. Methods We used Hawai‘i statewide inpatient and emergency department (ED) data across all payers from 2015–2016 to determine the presence of at least 1 of 5 chronic conditions (ie, asthma, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, stroke) from 13,514 inpatient stays by 9,467 unique individuals and 228,548 ED visits by 127,854 individuals. Results Twenty-eight percent of youth who were hospitalized and 12% with an ED visit had at least 1 chronic condition. Medicaid covered more than half of these visits. When comparing patients with and without a chronic condition, race/ethnicity, age group, and payer varied significantly in both inpatient and ED settings. Patients with a chronic condition were disproportionately Native Hawaiian, Filipino, and Pacific Islander; 32.3% of those with an inpatient chronic condition and 34.9% of those with an ED chronic condition were Native Hawaiian. Prevalence of chronic conditions among racial/ethnic groups varied significantly by age. Conclusion Chronic diseases, including those more often seen in adulthood, are prevalent in young people in acute care settings in Hawai‘i, with notable disparities. These findings can help justify, guide, and support programs that are needed to address these changing epidemiological trends, which may be of particular interest for Medicaid.
