Abstract
Adolescence is characterized by many changes and these changes differentiate adolescents' self-care needs. The use of smartphones and tablets to provide healthcare services has expanded, and the user-centered design could help to create mobile applications based on users' needs. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify the data requirements and key features of mobile application for adolescent self-care from a stakeholder perspective. This study was conducted with a qualitative approach to identify the key features of mobile application for adolescent's self-care as well as educational content axes for five component of self-care using conventional and directed content analysis respectively. From 3 sub-groups 30 participants were selected based on purposive sampling with maximum variety and sampling was performed until data saturation. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews. Participants' informed consent was obtained before the interview. The interview lasted 20-40 min and MAXQDA software version 10 was used for data analysis. In this study, four criteria of acceptability, reliability, transferability, and validity proposed by Guba and Lincoln were used to evaluate and validate the data. After conducting the interviews, 789 initial codes, 12 sub-categories, and 3 categories (app view, app content architecture, app self-care content) were emerged, which reflects the key features of a mobile application and the necessary educational content. The research findings could provide a guide for future mobile application development considering the viewpoints of health professionals, content, and software experts. Addressing the features and requirements in practice could lead to designing efficient and effective mobile applications.

Abstract
Individuals diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) are exposed to an increased risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), which negatively affects their health outcomes and quality of life. Lifestyle interventions have shown promise in managing MetS. This study outlines the protocol for a web-based multimodal self-care program, Digital Metabolic Rehabilitation, for managing MetS in patients with COPD. The Digital Metabolic Rehabilitation is a single-arm pilot trial that integrates the Canadian Health Advanced by Nutrition and Graded Exercise (CHANGE) Program and a web-based wellness platform. The web-based wellness platform employed in this study is My Viva Plan (MVP)®, which integrates a holistic, multicomponent approach to promote wellness. The intervention will primarily focus on lifestyle changes for patients with COPD. Over 6 months, participants will use the web-based wellness platform and engage in weekly online support group sessions. Fifty patients diagnosed with stage I-II COPD and MetS will participate. Blood tests, anthropometrics, body composition, physical function, muscle strength, physical activity, energy metabolism, quality of life and mental health will be assessed at baseline, 3, and 6 months. The Digital Metabolic Rehabilitation program aims to explore whether a multimodal integrative intervention delivered through a web-based wellness platform can be implemented by patients with COPD with MetS. By combining the expertise of the CHANGE Program with the digital delivery format, the intervention seeks to enhance self-monitoring and foster better self-management practices. The protocol outlines a novel and potentially impactful intervention for managing MetS in patients with COPD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To analyze the effectiveness of mobile application-based interventions on medication adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Intervention articles involving patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and/or their families, utilizing mobile application-based intervention research designs, assessing patients individually or in groups with or without a control group, using mobile application-based interventions that can be accessed via a browser, utilizing adherence to treatment as the primary outcome, and written in English and Indonesian were included. INFORMATION SOURCES The articles published from 2012 to 2022 were obtained from EBSCO Host, ProQuest, GARUDA, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Online Library databases. RISK OF BIAS The Critical Assessment Standards Program was used to assess the trustworthiness, relevance, and results of the published articles. The quality of the articles was assessed according to Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice guidelines. RESULTS Seven studies reported that mobile application-based interventions can improve medication adherence, including treatment success, number of missed drugs, correct intake of medications, adherence to health programs, timeliness, and frequency of clinic visits. DISCUSSION This review only analyzed the impact of mobile application-based interventions on patients, and their effects on the family, social, and health services were not covered.

Abstract
Background Mobile health technologies are increasingly acknowledged as a cost-effective and convenient means of delivering top-notch healthcare services to patients in low- and middle-income countries. This research explores the utilization of mobile health applications in managing, monitoring, and self-care for adult diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. The objective is to gain insight into how diabetic patients currently utilize Mobile health applications for self-management and their inclination to use them in the future. Methods The authors conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. They included articles that reported on the use of mobile/smartphone applications for diabetic mellitus disorders, focusing on ownership, application use, future interest in use, and use patterns. The search was conducted in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and SCOPUS electronic databases, with various published articles from January 2016 up to February 2024. The methodological quality was evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tool. Statistical techniques were applied, including the heterogeneity test, publication bias assessment, Egger's test, and funnel plots. The pooled prevalence was calculated using meta-analysis proportion with a random-effects model. Results Thirteen studies were included, out of 4568 recognized articles. The pooled prevalence of mobile health application use for current diabetic management self-management, future interest in using the application for diabetic disorder self-management, and lack of belief in mobile health application users for self-management was 35%, 57%, and 39%, respectively. We observed significant heterogeneity (I2 = 97.7, p=<0.001), but no significant publication bias was detected on Egger's test. Conclusions Our meta-analysis results show that over one-third of individuals use mobile health applications for diabetic self-management, and more than half of individuals would like to manage their diabetes mellitus in the future by using mobile health applications. These mobile health apps may be promising in future diabetes mellitus self-management. However, we still need to study the effectiveness of these apps. In addition, adopting mobile health apps based on the cultural context makes this self-management more achievable, practical, and impactful for individuals with diabetes. Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of digital health applications (German acronym DiGA) for comprehensive patient care is increasing rapidly. Patients with non-organic insomnia can be prescribed an application to manage insomnia. Due to the high prevalence of insomnia in patients with cancer, we were interested in the effect of it and what barriers need to be overcome for its use. The focus of existing studies on acceptance and benefits prompted us to emphasise the analysis of barriers and thus to formulate possible solutions. METHODS To analyse the barriers of use, the study population (patients with self-reported tiredness or sleep disturbance via validated instruments and cancer disease) was divided into 3 groups. In groups 1 (patients who refused to participate in advance) and 2 (patients who refused a prescription), short close-ended questionnaires were used for non-response assessment by treating oncologists. Problem-centred guidelines were used for the telephone interviews with group 3 (patients who did not provide information on DiGA use). Alternatively, group 3 was invited to complete and return the close-ended questionnaire. A quantitative analysis of the non-response reasons was conducted using SPSS in groups 1 and 2, while MAXQDA was used for the qualitative data in group 3. RESULTS Patients refused to participate at several stages of our study. Quantitative data are available for groups 1 and 2. In the largest group 1, 62% of patients refused to participate due to non-subjective sleep disturbance (177 out of 189 patients) during recruitment by treating oncologists, despite high scores on the screening tool. In the small group 2 (11 out of 15), the most common reasons for withdrawal documented by the oncologists were loss of interest and deteriorating health. The problem-centred qualitative interviews with group 3 (17 patients) revealed that some of them used the prescribed DiGA, despite not being included in the main study and being categorized as lost to follow-up. CONCLUSION Analysis of barriers to DiGA use showed that reducing administrative barriers and providing digital and personal support can increase acceptance of the use of DiGAs among cancer patients. Additionally, screening tools can act as a door opener to further communication regarding DiGAs. Abstract
This paper presents a co-designed solution aimed at improving community healthcare assistance management. To enhance patients' self-awareness of their health status, encouraging active participation in care process, and to support nurses in delivering patient-centered care, we have developed an innovative platform with a highly customized app. This platform was designed using a multi-disciplinary, bottom-up approach. Patient data collection and processing facilitate the automation of care timeline planning, based on real-time patients' needs and the available resources. To achieve this goal, different components have been considered: real-time health data collection and processing, patient care planning, decision support for nurses, secure communication for data transmission, and user-friendly interfaces to ensure easy access to platform functionalities.

Abstract
Background Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder with no cure. Most children are prescribed several medications aimed at controlling disease activity, managing symptoms, and reducing pain. Physical activity is also encouraged to retain musculoskeletal function. The primary determinants of treatment success are maintaining long-term adherence, ongoing monitoring by a pediatric rheumatologist, and involvement of an interdisciplinary team. To support these goals, a new digital intervention was developed, InteractiveClinics, which aimed to prompt children to take their medications, report pain levels, and increase their physical activity. Objective This study aims to evaluate the usability of InteractiveClinics among children with JIA. Methods As part of this pediatric cross-sectional study, 12 children were asked to wear a smartwatch for 2 weeks, which was synchronized to the InteractiveClinics phone app and web-based platform. Personalized notifications were sent daily to the watch and phone, to prompt and record medication adherence and pain level assessment. Physical activity was automatically recorded by the watch. At the end of the study, all children and parents completed a postintervention survey. Written comments were also encouraged to gain further feedback. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the survey results, and all qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. Results Twelve children aged 10 to 18 years (mean 14.2, SD 3.1 years; female: n=8, 66.7%) and 1 parent for each child (n=12; female: n=8, 66.7%) were enrolled in the study. Based on the highest and lowest agreement areas of the survey, most children and parents liked the smartwatch and web-based platform; they found it easy to learn and simple to use. They were also satisfied with the pain and physical activity module. However, usability and acceptability barriers that hindered uptake were identified in the phone app and medication module. Children required a unique in-app experience, and their suggestive improvements included more personalization within the app; simplification by removing all links not relevant to antirheumatic medications; flexibility in response times; improved conferment through gamification; additional comment fields for the input of more data, such as medication side effects or pain-related symptoms; more detailed graphical illustrations of the physical activity module, including a breakdown of metrics; and importantly, interconnections between modules, because medication adherence, pain levels, and physical activity can each influence the other. They were, overall, improving usefulness for children and parents. Conclusions The usability of InteractiveClinics was positive. Children and parents liked the watch and web-based platform and were satisfied with the pain and physical activity module. However, children wanted a unique in-app experience through more personalization, simplification, flexibility, conferment, comment fields, graphical illustrations, a breakdown of metrics, and interconnections. Certainly, inclusions are needed to promote user adoption and advancement of new validated digital health interventions in pediatric rheumatology, to support the delivery of integrated care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Mobile health (mHealth), defined as the use of mobile phones or applications in healthcare, has been developed to enhance asthma care; yet implementation is inconsistent, and few studies have focused on provider perspectives on use in daily practice. The purpose of this study was to explore primary care pediatric provider perspectives regarding mHealth use in clinical practice for children with asthma. METHODS A qualitative, descriptive approach was utilized to perform semi-structured interviews on asthma mHealth use with providers caring for children with asthma. Interview transcripts were coded by two independent investigators and any differences were reconciled. Interviews continued until thematic saturation was achieved. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS Seventeen pediatric providers were recruited and interviewed. Three themes identified included implementation benefits, implementation barriers, and reporting desires, with 11 subthemes. Many subthemes were consistent across providers (e.g. self-management benefits and electronic medical record integration), while others such as provider clinical burden and approach to integrating mHealth data reports into daily workflow demonstrated variability. Provider perspectives highlight the potential of mHealth applications in asthma self-management while offering challenges related to clinical burden and suggestions for reporting and workflow integration. These results provide valuable perspectives on mHealth use and reporting to ensure provider efficiency and technology-enhanced asthma care. This study investigates pediatric provider perspectives on asthma mobile health use and reporting in daily practice, a topic that has not sufficiently been explored within the literature. Abstract
Decentralized clinical trials (DCTs) are becoming increasingly popular. Digital clinical trial platforms are software environments where users complete designated clinical trial tasks, providing investigators and trial participants with efficient tools to support trial activities and streamline trial processes. In particular, digital platforms with a modular architecture lend themselves to DCTs, where individual trial activities can correspond to specific platform modules. While design features can allow users to customize their platform experience, the real strengths of digital platforms for DCTs are enabling centralized data capture and remote monitoring of trial participants and in using digital technologies to streamline workflows and improve trial management. When selecting a platform for use in a DCT, sponsors and investigators must consider the specific trial requirements. All digital platforms are limited in their functionality and technical capabilities. Integrating additional functional modules into a central platform may solve these challenges, but few commercial platforms are open to integrating third-party components. The lack of common data standardization protocols for clinical trials will likely limit the development of one-size-fits-all digital platforms for DCTs. This viewpoint summarizes the current role of digital platforms in supporting decentralized trial activities, including a discussion of the potential benefits and challenges of digital platforms for investigators and participants. We will highlight the role of the digital platform in the development of DCTs and emphasize where existing technology is functionally limiting. Finally, we will discuss the concept of the ideal fully integrated and unified DCT and the obstacles developers must address before it can be realized.

Abstract
Background Going to university is a major life event, which can be stressful and negatively affect mental health. However, it also presents an opportunity to establish a foundation for positive life trajectories. To support university students, a mobile transdiagnostic emotion regulation (ER) intervention has been developed, offering both broad-based (universal) and targeted (indicated) preventative support. ER, a transdiagnostic factor underlying various mental health problems, is a critical intervention target in students, a demographic particularly susceptible to mental health issues. Cultivating ER can help manage immediate stressors and foster long-term wellbeing. This paper describes the study protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) evaluating the effectiveness and uptake of such mobile transdiagnostic ER intervention. Method The superiority parallel-group RCT involves 250 participants randomized to either the intervention condition (i.e., full access to the mobile intervention, (n = 125) or to a waitlist control condition (n = 125). Primary outcomes include ER skills and stress symptoms. Secondary outcomes include mental health parameters (anxiety, depression, resilience) and intervention uptake (i.e., objective engagement, subjective engagement, ER skills application in real life). Outcomes are assessed at baseline, week 3, 8 and 12, with continuous log-data collection for user engagement. Discussion This study evaluates the effectiveness and uptake of a transdiagnostic ER mobile intervention for the student population addressing their ER developmental needs. If successful, the results will validate our approach to intervention development and whether focusing on learning transfer (i.e., application of the learnt skills in real-life) and personalization using a recommendation system, can boost the real-world application of skills and intervention impact.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer pain remains highly prevalent and persistent throughout survivorship, and it is crucial to investigate the potential of leveraging the advanced features of mobile health (mHealth) apps to empower individuals to self-manage their pain. OBJECTIVE This review aims to comprehensively understand the acceptability, users' experiences, and effectiveness of mHealth apps in supporting cancer pain self-management. METHODS We conducted an integrative review following Souza and Whittemore and Knafl's 6 review processes. Literature was searched in PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, PsycINFO, and Embase, from 2013 to 2023. Keywords including "cancer patients," "pain," "self-management," "mHealth applications," and relevant synonyms were used in the search. The Johns Hopkins research evidence appraisal tool was used to evaluate the quality of eligible studies. A narrative synthesis was conducted to analyze the extracted data. RESULTS A total of 20 studies were included, with the overall quality rated as high (n=15) to good (n=5). Using mHealth apps to monitor and manage pain was acceptable for most patients with cancer. The internal consistency of the mHealth in measuring pain was 0.96. The reported daily assessment or engagement rate ranged from 61.9% to 76.8%. All mHealth apps were designed for multimodal interventions. Participants generally had positive experiences using pain apps, rating them as enjoyable and user-friendly. In addition, 6 studies reported significant improvements in health outcomes, including enhancement in pain remission (severity and intensity), medication adherence, and a reduced frequency of breakthrough pain. The most frequently highlighted roles of mHealth apps included pain monitoring, tracking, reminders, education facilitation, and support coordination. CONCLUSIONS mHealth apps are effective and acceptable in supporting pain self-management. They offer a promising multi-model approach for patients to monitor, track, and manage their pain. These findings provide evidence-based insights for leveraging mHealth apps to support cancer pain self-management. More high-quality studies are needed to examine the effectiveness of digital technology-based interventions for cancer pain self-management and to identify the facilitators and barriers to their implementation in real-world practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support programs for people living with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can increase glycemic control and reduce the risk of developing T2DM-related complications. However, the recorded uptake of these programs is low. Digital self-management interventions have the potential to overcome barriers associated with attendance at face-to-face sessions. Healthy Living is an evidence-based digital self-management intervention for people living with T2DM, based on the Healthy Living for People with Type 2 Diabetes (HeLP-Diabetes) intervention, which demonstrated effectiveness in a randomized controlled trial. NHS England has commissioned Healthy Living for national rollout into routine care. Healthy Living consists of web-based structured education and Tools components to help service users self-manage their condition, including setting goals. However, key changes were implemented during the national rollout that contrasted with the trial, including a lack of facilitated access from a health care professional and the omission of a moderated online support forum. OBJECTIVE This qualitative study aims to explore service users' experiences of using Healthy Living early in the national rollout. METHODS A total of 19 participants were interviewed via telephone or a videoconferencing platform. Topics included users' experiences and views of website components, their understanding of the intervention content, and the overall acceptability of Healthy Living. Transcripts were analyzed thematically using a framework approach. RESULTS Participants valued having trustworthy information that was easily accessible. The emotional management content resonated with the participants, prompting some to book an appointment with their general practitioners to discuss low mood. After completing the structured education, participants might have been encouraged to continue using the website if there was more interactivity (1) between the website and other resources and devices they were using for self-management, (2) with health professionals and services, and (3) with other people living with T2DM. There was consensus that the website was particularly useful for people who had been newly diagnosed with T2DM. CONCLUSIONS Digital Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support programs offering emotional aspects of self-management are addressing an unmet need. Primary care practices could consider offering Healthy Living to people as soon as they are diagnosed with T2DM. Participants suggested ways in which Healthy Living could increase interaction with the website to promote continued long-term use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Digital technology offers individuals the opportunity to monitor their symptoms. Information gathered from apps, devices, and web platforms may be used to direct clinical care and to support research. AIM Using this survey, we aim to explore the views of people attending the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic (ARRNC) and their relatives/caregivers regarding the use of digital health technologies to monitor health. METHOD People attending the ARRNC were invited to complete a structured 18-item questionnaire evaluating their experience and attitudes to using technology for monitoring health. People with neurodegenerative disease (pwND) and their caregivers completed a mix of closed and open-ended questions. RESULTS 249 people responded, 51 relatives/caregivers and 198 pwND. 67.1% (n= 167) of respondents do not use technology for monitoring their health, but 98.2% (n = 164) of these are interested in their future use. 29.7% (n = 74) respondents currently use a smartphone for health monitoring, 20.9% (n = 52) use a wearable device, and 13.3% (n = 33) use a tablet. 79.3% (n = 65) of users use their technology for monitoring physical activity, 37.8% (n = 31) use it for assisting with self-management, and 41.5% (n = 34) use it for tracking sleep. Factors which would encourage use of technology are ease of access to devices and ability to monitor health. Respondents reported data security concerns and difficulty using technology as potential barriers. CONCLUSION People attending a neurology clinic, and their relatives/caregivers, support the use of digital technologies as an adjunct to routine care. There is a need for coordinated digital strategies for development and delivery of validated measures.

Abstract
PURPOSE Reduced activity because of pain is a major health issue associated with total knee arthroplasty. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a nurse-led app-based home exercise program for patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty. METHODS A nonequivalent control group of pretest-posttest design was used. Data from 45 patients were collected. The control group received individualized face-to-face exercise education, whereas the experimental group received training on the use of app-based home exercise education, including exercise videos and app push notifications to encourage exercise after discharge. Pain, range of motion, exercise self-efficacy, and quality of life were measured at baseline and 3 and 12 weeks after surgery. Nursing care satisfaction was evaluated 12 weeks after surgery. RESULTS There were significant overall reductions in pain intensity ( p = .001), improvements in limited range of motion ( p < .001), and increases in exercise self-efficacy ( p = .034) and quality of life ( p = .033) in the experimental group ( n = 22) compared with those in the control group ( n = 23). Nursing care satisfaction was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group ( p < .001). CONCLUSIONS Rehabilitation nurses can offer app-based home exercise education with push notifications to alleviate pain, enhance range of motion, improve exercise self-efficacy, and increase nursing care satisfaction for patients who have had a knee arthroplasty.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic pain affects approximately 30% of the general population, severely degrades quality of life and professional life, and leads to additional health care costs. Moreover, the medical follow-up of patients with chronic pain remains complex and provides only fragmentary data on painful daily experiences. This situation makes the management of patients with chronic pain less than optimal and may partly explain the lack of effectiveness of current therapies. Real-life monitoring of subjective and objective markers of chronic pain using mobile health (mHealth) programs could better characterize patients, chronic pain, pain medications, and daily impact to help medical management. OBJECTIVE This cohort study aimed to assess the ability of our mHealth tool (eDOL) to collect extensive real-life medical data from chronic pain patients after 1 year of use. The data collected in this way would provide new epidemiological and pathophysiological data on chronic pain. METHODS A French national cohort of patients with chronic pain treated at 18 pain clinics has been established and followed up using mHealth tools. This cohort makes it possible to collect the determinants and repercussions of chronic pain and their evolutions in a real-life context, taking into account all environmental events likely to influence chronic pain. The patients were asked to complete several questionnaires, body schemes, and weekly meters, and were able to interact with a chatbot and use educational modules on chronic pain. Physicians could monitor their patients' progress in real time via an online platform. RESULTS The cohort study included 1427 patients and analyzed 1178 patients. The eDOL tool was able to collect various sociodemographic data; specific data for characterizing pain disorders, including body scheme; data on comorbidities related to chronic pain and its psychological and overall impact on patients' quality of life; data on drug and nondrug therapeutics and their benefit-to-risk ratio; and medical or treatment history. Among the patients completing weekly meters, 49.4% (497/1007) continued to complete them after 3 months of follow-up, and the proportion stabilized at 39.3% (108/275) after 12 months of follow-up. Overall, despite a fairly high attrition rate over the follow-up period, the eDOL tool collected extensive data. This amount of data will increase over time and provide a significant volume of health data of interest for future research involving the epidemiology, care pathways, trajectories, medical management, sociodemographic characteristics, and other aspects of patients with chronic pain. CONCLUSIONS This work demonstrates that the mHealth tool eDOL is able to generate a considerable volume of data concerning the determinants and repercussions of chronic pain and their evolutions in a real-life context. The eDOL tool can incorporate numerous parameters to ensure the detailed characterization of patients with chronic pain for future research and pain management. Abstract
The utilization of smart monitoring technology offers potential for enhancing health outcomes, yet its feasibility and acceptance among Hispanic pregnant individuals remain uncertain. This is particularly crucial to investigate within the context of apparently healthy individuals identified as low risk, who still face a 10% likelihood of complications. Given their frequent underrepresentation in healthcare services and relative lack of attention, improving the feasibility of remote monitoring in this population could yield significant benefits. To address this gap, our study aimed to adapt and evaluate the practicality of a smart monitoring platform among healthy Hispanic pregnant women during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, as well as one week following childbirth, a period when complications often arise. This longitudinal study followed n = 16 participants for an average of 17 weeks. Participants were instructed to wear the Oura ring for objective data collection, including activity, sleep, and heart rate, and to complete survey questions through REDcap to assess mental health and lifestyle factors. The study framework utilized the RE-AIM approach, with acceptability and adherence as key components of the feasibility evaluation. Our findings revealed that completion rates for biweekly and monthly surveys remained consistently high until after childbirth (approximately 80%), while daily question completion remained above 80% until 38th week of gestation, declining thereafter. The wearing rate of the Oura ring remained consistently above 80% until the 35th gestational week, decreasing to around 31% postpartum. Participants cited barriers to wearing the ring during the postpartum period, including difficulties managing the newborn, forgetfulness, and concerns about scratching the baby's skin. The enrollment rate was 71.42%, with an attrition rate of 6.25%. Thematic analysis of one-on-one interviews identified three main themes: personal desire for health improvement, social acceptability and support, and conditions influencing device/platform efficiency. In conclusion, while adherence varied based on gestational week and survey frequency, the study demonstrated strong acceptability of the smart monitoring platform among the study population, indicated by the high enrollment rate. Qualitative insights underscored the significance of personal motivation, social support, and device/platform efficiency in enhancing patient engagement with digital health monitoring during pregnancy, offering valuable considerations for future healthcare interventions in this domain.

Abstract
The use of assistive technology (AT) devices enhances older adults' function in daily activities. However, the lack of awareness of AT among potential AT users has been identified as a major barrier to its adoption. This study aimed to assess the quality of the Mi Guía de Asistencia Tecnológica (MGAT) web app, which provides information on AT, from the perspective of older Latinos with physical disabilities, and to explore their experience using the MGAT. We employed a convergent parallel mixed-method design involving 12 older Latinos living in Puerto Rico. In Phase I, the researchers trained the participants in the use of the MGAT. In Phase II, participants were encouraged to use it for 30 days. In Phase III, the participants completed the User Mobile Application Rating Scale and individual interviews, analyzed with descriptive statistics and a directed thematic content analysis. The quality of the MGAT was rated high in both the objective (mean = 3.99; SD = 0.7) and subjective (mean = 4.13; SD = 1.1) domains. Qualitative data revealed the MGAT was accessible, usable, desirable, credible, useful, and valuable to increasing older Latinos' AT knowledge, function, and autonomy. The MGAT has the potential to increase AT awareness and adoption among older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mobile health technology's impact on cardiovascular risk factor control is not fully understood. This study evaluates the association between interaction with a mobile health application and change in cardiovascular risk factors. METHODS AND RESULTS Participants with hypertension with or without dyslipidemia enrolled in a workplace-deployed mobile health application-based cardiovascular risk self-management program between January 2018 and December 2022. Retrospective evaluation explored the influence of application engagement on change in blood pressure (BP), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and weight. Multiple regression analyses examined the influence of guideline-based, nonpharmacological lifestyle-based digital coaching on outcomes adjusting for confounders. Of 102 475 participants, 49.1% were women. Median age was 53 (interquartile range, 43-61) years, BP was 134 (interquartile range, 124-144)/84 (interquartile range, 78-91) mm Hg, TC was 183 (interquartile range, 155-212) mg/dL, LDL-C was 106 (82-131) mg/dL, and body mass index was 30 (26-35) kg/m2. At 2 years, participants with baseline systolic BP ≥140 mm Hg reduced systolic BP by 18.6 (SEM, 0.3) mm Hg. At follow up, participants with baseline TC ≥240 mg/dL reduced TC by 65.7 (SEM, 4.6) mg/dL, participants with baseline LDL-C≥160 mg/dL reduced LDL-C by 66.6 (SEM, 6.2) mg/dL, and participants with baseline body mass index ≥30 kg/m2 lost 12.0 (SEM, 0.3) pounds, or 5.1% of body weight. Interaction with digital coaching was associated with greater reduction in all outcomes. CONCLUSIONS A mobile health application-based cardiovascular risk self-management program was associated with favorable reductions in BP, TC, LDL-C, and weight, highlighting the potential use of this technology in comprehensive cardiovascular risk factor control.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mobile phones can be an ideal platform to engage adolescents to maintain, improve, and promote self-care. Therefore, the current study aims to design and evaluate the usability of a mobile application for self-care in adolescents with a user-centered approach. METHODS The current applied developmental study was done in four steps. The first step, polling and examining opinions was conducted through in-depth semi-structured interviews, with the aim of user-centered mobile application design with the involvement of 30 participants. The second step, extracting and compiling the educational content related to the main themes of the self-care app, was obtained from national and international guidelines and instructions, including the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, etc. In the third step, the initial version of the mobile application was developed. In the fourth step, app usability was evaluated by 30 participants from the target group, 2 weeks after using the app, using the MAUQ questionnaire. RESULTS In the first step, 789 codes, 12 sub-categories, and 3 categories were extracted. These codes were used in the design of the mobile application. In the second step, educational information was prepared and arranged in 5 sections (physical activity, nutrition, personal hygiene, risky behaviors and safety and events) in the form of text, images and short videos. In the third step, the mobile application was designed based on step 1 and 2. This application operates in online mode and under the Android operating system. the initial version of the mobile application was developed using JavaScript and Typescript programming languages in a Visual Studio Code environment. In the fourth step, the participants the overall level of usability of the application as very good with an average of 6.28 ± 0.55. The highest average score was given to the user interface and satisfaction with an average score of 6.43 ± 0.58. CONCLUSIONS The "My-Care" app is a collaboratively designed smartphone app for adolescents that targets 5 dimensions of physical self-care. This app has the potential to teach, assess, and promote self-care among adolescents.

Abstract
Among other things, digital health applications offer users support in better understanding their physical and mental health through digital data, thereby promoting positive health behavior. In addition to state-approved digital health applications (DiGA) and digital care applications (DiPA), there is a wide array of other commercial health applications available to users. Particularly in non-approved applications, developers often deploy manipulative design strategies (dark patterns), intentionally or unintentionally, to deceive users into making specific decisions. This article provides an overview of current and widespread dark patterns and assesses the risks posed by them in digital health applications.In the future, "light" should be shed on dark patterns by creating more transparency for users, providing regulators with a more accurate understanding of dark patterns, and paying more attention to the implementation of guidelines. Thus, users may gain autonomy using healthcare applications and their data can be better protected.

Abstract
In 2018, Ghana's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) introduced a mobile money payment system for membership renewal and premium payments to enhance enrolment and retention rates. However, the adoption of such innovations depends on various factors, including personal traits and public perceptions. This study aims to explore the determinants of NHIS membership renewal and premium payment via the mobile renewal system. Conducted at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana, the study used a survey design to gather data from 951 KNUST students. Employing logistic regression analysis, the study identified key factors influencing the use of the NHIS mobile renewal service. The findings revealed that individuals aged 19-21, 25-27 or above 27, without mobile money accounts, and those with no history of online purchases were less likely to adopt the mobile renewal system (P < .05). Conversely, those perceiving the system as useful and easy to use were more likely to utilise it for NHIS membership renewal (P < .05). In conclusion, policymakers should prioritise system quality, accessibility, perceived ease of use, and usefulness to facilitate the adoption and usage of the NHIS mobile payment system. These findings contribute valuable insights for enhancing the effectiveness of health insurance innovations.

Abstract
Background Long-term therapeutic adherence remains an essential challenge for better management of chronic diseases. It is estimated at 50% in developed countries. Objective The study aimed to evaluate, under real conditions, the influence of satisfaction with Flexig use on adherence to subcutaneous immunoglobulin home-treatment therapy in a sample of French patients with chronic dysimmune diseases. Methods This is a 2-year prospective cohort involving 241 patients from several hospitals in France whose data were extracted from the Flexig 2.0 mHealth application. Satisfaction was assessed by System Usability Scale (SUS) and user experience by User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). Adherence to Ig therapy was assessed by medication possession rate. We analyzed the relationship between Flexig user satisfaction and adherence to treatment, as well as determinants of adherence. Results Most patients (82.7%) were being treated for an immunodeficiency, versus 17.3% for a chronic autoimmune and inflammatory disease. Almost all patients (97.9%) received subcutaneous immunoglobulin therapy. The patients' ages (means ± SDs) were 36.5 ± 18.3 years, disease duration was about 6 years, and 58.5% were men. Flexig user satisfaction was 76.2 ± 8 (System Usability Scale), associated with good user experience reported on UEQ. Adherence rate was 99.7%. Time on app, disease duration, and Flexig user satisfaction were statistically predictive of adherence to IgG therapy. High adherence to Ig therapy was associated with good satisfaction with using Flexig (P < .0001). Conclusion Adherence to Ig therapy in chronic dysimmune disease was strong and was associated with good satisfaction among Flexig users, suggesting that electronic support may be a valuable compliance aid.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adolescence is a critical time in which many psychological disorders develop. Mental health promotion is important, especially during this period. In recent years, an increasing number of mobile apps geared toward mental health promotion and preventing mental illness have been developed specifically for adolescents, with the goal of strengthening their mental health and well-being. OBJECTIVE This study aims to explore adolescents' attitudes toward mental health apps, as well as the perceived usefulness of mental health apps. METHODS In this mixed methods study, a total of 183 adolescents (mean age 15.62, SD 3.21 years) answered a cross-sectional questionnaire, with 10 questions (eg, "What do you think about mental health apps in general?"). To complement the quantitative findings, individual interviews were conducted with 9 adolescents, during which they could elaborate on their opinions about mental health apps. RESULTS A total of 30% (56/183) of the adolescents in the quantitative study had used a mental health app. Over half of the respondents (77/126, 61.1%) reported that they would use a mental health app if they had a mental health problem as well as that they thought mental health apps were somewhat or very useful (114/183, 62.3%). Availability was the most frequently reported advantage of mental health apps (107/183, 58.8%). Possible associated costs of mental health apps were the most frequently mentioned barrier to their use (87/183, 47.5%). Findings from the interviews also pointed to the importance of the availability of mental health apps as well as their credibility and potential to provide adolescents with autonomy when seeking mental health advice and help. CONCLUSIONS Overall, the results indicate that adolescents have a positive attitude toward and an interest in mental health apps. However, adolescents are also more or less unaware of such apps, which might be one reason why they are often not used. The findings of this study have important implications for future research on mental health apps and for developers of mental health apps that target young people. The insights gained from this study can inform the development of more effective mental health apps that better meet the needs and preferences of adolescents.

Abstract
There is a growing literature on the role of mobile health applications (mHealth apps) in supporting older adults and the self-management of personal health. The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the usability of a government-funded mobile health app amongst older Australians and to evaluate whether cognitive function and demographic characteristics (i.e. age, gender, education) are associated with usability. A total of 28 older adults living in a regional city in Australia took part in the study. The participants were recruited using purposive sampling. Data collection instruments consisted of validated cognitive tests, task-based usability tests, and a questionnaire. The data was analyzed using non-parametric strategies. The findings of this study demonstrated that a government-funded, mHealth app was usable by older adults. Users were able to perform basic tasks in an effective and efficient manner. The hypothesis that elderly age would be significantly associated with performance on cognitive tests, as well as usability, was not supported. Performance on some cognitive tests was significantly and positively related to usability. Education and gender were not related to usability. The results suggest that traditional stereotypes surrounding aging and cognitive decline need to be reexamined.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Examine user perceptions of the Mind Your Heart (MYH) program, a mindful eating and nutrition education program delivered via an eHealth system. METHODS Sixteen participants (41.5 ± 13.1 years) completed sample MYH lessons over 3 weeks. We examined changes in mindfulness from the State Mindfulness Scale via text messages sent 3 times per week. We assessed MYH user perceptions in a semistructured interview after 3 weeks. Analyses included Spearman's correlation, repeated measures ANOVA, and thematic analysis. RESULTS State Mindfulness Scale scores were significantly improved (F[1,15] = 5.35, P = 0.01) from week 1 (M = 2.28 ± 0.80) to week 3 (M = 2.75 ± 1.04). Four themes emerged: (1) MYH is supportive of health goals, (2) text messages act as an intervention, (3) facilitators or inhibitors of use, and (4) enhancing engagement. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Based on participant feedback, the final version of MYH should include example-based learning to translate abstract concepts like mindful eating into action.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Generation Y represents a special target group in healthcare. Young, healthy and digitally socialized with integration of technologies into everyday life, they have specific needs. In the context of societal challenges such as demographic change and securing a skilled workforce, taking these needs into account, especially for maintaining health, should be the goal of public health as well as specific actors such as health insurers and employers. AIM OF THE WORK The research was intended to test and deepen the findings of two previous stages of work, specifically a qualitative survey. In this way, two research questions were to be answered: I: the importance of transparency and efficiency in the use of digital health innovations by Generation Y and II: the influence of socio-demographic and technology-associated factors on the use of digital health innovations by Generation Y in addition to the needs. MATERIAL AND METHODS As a conclusion of a sequential approach, assessments of transparency- and efficiency-associated needs in context of the use of digital health innovations of persons from Generation Y were collected in a quantitative online survey. 355 fully completed data sets were analyzed using SPSS software. An ordinal regression analysis was used to test the influence of predictors from six previously formulated hypotheses. RESULTS The study was able to describe influences of the constructs transparency and efficiency on the use of apps and smart devices. The need for a sense of control had a significantly negative effect, while the need for structuring and seamless integration into everyday life had a significantly positive effect. Gender and technology readiness also had an impact. According to the data analysis, efficiency and thus a concrete everyday benefit from digital health innovations seems to be more relevant for Generation Y than autonomous empowerment and thus transparency. CONCLUSION By taking into account the needs described as well as corresponding preferences, the target group could be addressed and usage could potentially be increased. Prevention and health promotion, as well as their organization, should be able to be incorporated into everyday life at a low threshold, and everyday life should be positively supplemented and efficiently supported.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetes is a worldwide chronic condition causing morbidity and mortality, with a growing economic burden on health care systems. Complications from poorly controlled diabetes are associated with increased socioeconomic costs and reduced quality of life. Smartphones have become an influential platform, providing feasible tools such as health apps to deliver tailored support to enhance the ability of patients with diabetes for self-management. Gro Health is a National Health Service division X-certified digital health tool used to deliver educational and monitoring support to facilitate the development of skills and practices for maintaining good health. OBJECTIVE This study aims to assess self-reported outcomes of the Gro Health app among users with diabetes and prediabetes and identify the factors that determine engagement with the digital health tool. METHODS This was a service evaluation of self-reported data collected prospectively by the developers of the Gro Health app. The EQ-5D questionnaire is a standardized tool used to measure health status for clinical and economic appraisal. Gro Health users completed the EQ-5D at baseline and 6 months after using the app. Users provided informed consent for the use of their anonymized data for research purposes. EQ-5D index scores and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores were calculated at baseline and 6 months for individuals with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. Descriptive statistics and multiple-regression models were used to assess changes in the outcome measures and determine factors that affected engagement with the digital tool. RESULTS A total of 84% (1767/2114) of Gro Health participants completed EQ-5D at baseline and 6 months. EQ-5D index scores are average values that reflect people's preferences about their health state (1=full health and 0=moribund). There was a significant and clinically meaningful increase in mean EQ-5D index scores among app users between baseline (0.746, SD 0.23) and follow-up (0.792, SD 0.22; P<.001). The greatest change was observed in the mean VAS score, with a percentage change of 18.3% improvement (61.7, SD 18.1 at baseline; 73.0, SD 18.8 at follow-up; P<.001). Baseline EQ-5D index scores, age, and completion of educational modules were associated with significant changes in the follow-up EQ-5D index scores, with baseline EQ-5D index scores, race and ethnicity, and completion of educational modules being significantly associated with app engagement (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS This study provides evidence of a significant positive effect on self-reported quality of life among people living with type 2 diabetes engaging with a digital health intervention. The improvements, as demonstrated by the EQ-5D questionnaire, are facilitated through access to education and monitoring support tools within the app. This provides an opportunity for health care professionals to incorporate National Health Service-certified digital tools, such as Gro Health, as part of the holistic management of people living with diabetes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer treatment is a key component of health care systems, and the increasing number of cancer medicines is expanding the treatment landscape. However, evidence of the impact on patients has been focused more on chemotherapy toxicity and symptom control and less on the effect of cancer medicines more broadly on patients' lives. Evolving electronic patient-reported outcome measures (ePROMs) presents the opportunity to secure early engagement of patients and clinicians in shaping the collection of quality-of-life metrics and presenting these data to better support the patient-clinician decision-making process. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to obtain initial feedback from patients and clinicians on the wireframes of a digital solution (patient app and clinician dashboard) for the collection and use of cancer medicines ePROMs. METHODS We adopted a 2-stage, mixed methods approach. Stage 1 (March to June 2019) consisted of interviews and focus groups with cancer clinicians and patients with cancer to explore the face validity of the wireframes, informed by the technology acceptance model constructs (perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and behavioral intention to use). In stage 2 (October 2019 to February 2020), the revised wireframes were assessed through web-based, adapted technology acceptance model questionnaires. Qualitative data (stage 1) underwent a framework analysis, and descriptive statistics were performed on quantitative data (stage 2). Clinicians and patients with cancer were recruited from NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, the largest health board in Scotland. RESULTS A total of 14 clinicians and 19 patients participated in a combination of stage 1 interviews and focus groups. Clinicians and patients indicated that the wireframes of a patient app and clinician dashboard for the collection of cancer medicines ePROMs would be easy to use and could focus discussions, and they would be receptive to using such tools in the future. In stage 1, clinicians raised the potential impact on workload, and both groups identified the need for adequate IT skills to use each technology. Changes to the wireframes were made, and in stage 2, clinicians (n=8) and patients (n=16) indicated it was "quite likely" that the technologies would be easy to use and they would be "quite likely" to use them in the future. Notably, clinicians indicated that they would use the dashboard to enable treatment decisions "with around half" of their patients. CONCLUSIONS This study emphasizes the importance of consulting both patients and clinicians in the design of digital solutions. The wireframes were perceived positively by patients and clinicians who were willing to use such technologies if available in the future as part of routine care. However, challenges were raised, and some differences were identified between participant groups, which warrant further research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Over the years, there has been increasing interest in electronic informed consent (eIC) in clinical research. The user-friendliness of an eIC application and its acceptance by stakeholders plays a central role in achieving successful implementation. OBJECTIVE This study aims to identify insights for the design and implementation of a user-friendly, personalized, and long-term eIC application based on a usability study with (potential) research participants and semistructured interviews with stakeholders on the practical integration of such an application into their daily practice. METHODS An eIC prototype was evaluated and refined through usability testing among Belgian citizens and iterative redesign. On the basis of a digital literacy questionnaire, a heterogeneous sample of participants was established. Participants needed to complete a series of usability tasks related to personalization and long-term interaction with the research team while using the "think aloud" technique. In addition, usability tests involved completing the System Usability Scale questionnaire and taking part in a semistructured feedback interview. Furthermore, semistructured interviews were conducted with ethics committee members, health care professionals, and pharmaceutical industry representatives active in Belgium and involved in clinical research. Thematic analysis was undertaken using the NVivo software (Lumivero). RESULTS In total, 3 iterations of usability tests were conducted with 10 participants each. Each cycle involved some participants who reported having low digital skills. The System Usability Scale scores related to the tasks on personalization and long-term interaction increased after each iteration and reached 69.5 (SD 8.35) and 71.3 (SD 16.1) out of 100, respectively, which represents above-average usability. Semistructured interviews conducted with health care professionals (n=4), ethics committee members (n=8), and pharmaceutical industry representatives (n=5) identified the need for an eIC system that can be easily set up. For example, a library could be established enabling stakeholders to easily provide background information about a clinical study, presented in the second layer of the interface. In contrast, some functionalities, such as informing participants about new studies through an eIC system, were not considered useful by stakeholders. CONCLUSIONS This study provides insights for the implementation of a user-friendly personalized and long-term eIC application. The study findings showed that usability testing is key to assessing and increasing the user-friendliness of an eIC application. Although this eIC system has the potential to be usable by a wide audience, participants with low digital literacy may not be able to use it successfully, highlighting the need for additional support for participants or other alternatives to an eIC system. In addition, key lessons emerging from the interviews included ensuring that the application is easy to implement in practice and is interoperable with other established systems.

Abstract
Background Pediatric asthma is the most common chronic respiratory disease of childhood. Caregivers often report lacking knowledge in several aspects of asthma management at home. Although the use of mobile health (mHealth) tools, such as mobile apps, could facilitate asthma self-management and, simultaneously, the collection of data for research, few studies have explored the features that caregivers would like to see in such a tool and their perceptions on data sharing. Objective This study evaluates caregivers' perceived knowledge gaps in asthma management; their perceptions of certain features and resources that should be included in a potential mobile app; and any concerns that they may have regarding data sharing for research, including privacy and security concerns. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we surveyed 200 caregivers of children (aged 1-13 y) with asthma who were followed at a pediatric tertiary care center in Montreal, Canada. Anonymous data were collected through the institutional web-based survey platform. We collected the participants' answers by using a 5-category Likert scale ("completely agree," "agree," "neither agree nor disagree," "disagree," and "completely disagree"), multiple-choice questions, and free-text questions on the abovementioned topics. Descriptive statistics were performed, and answers were compared between caregivers of preschool-aged children and caregivers of school-aged children. Results Participating children's mean age was 5.9 (SD 3.4) years, with 54% (108/200) aged ≤5 years and 46% (92/200) aged >6 years. Overall, caregivers reported having adequate knowledge about asthma and asthma self-management. Nonetheless, they identified several desirable features for a mobile app focused on asthma self-management. The most frequently identified features included receiving alerts about environmental triggers of asthma (153/199, 76.9%), having videos that demonstrate symptoms of asthma (133/199, 66.8%), and being able to log children's asthma action plans in the app (133/199, 66.8%). Interestingly, more caregivers of preschool-aged children preferred textual information when compared to caregivers of school-aged children (textual information for explaining asthma: P=.008; textual information for the symptoms of asthma: P=.005). Caregivers were generally highly in favor of sharing data collected through a mobile app for research. Conclusions Caregivers of children with asthma in our study identified several desirable educational and interactive features that they wanted to have in a mobile app for asthma self-management. These findings provide a foundation for designing and developing mHealth tools that are relevant to caregivers of children with asthma.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pharmacists can enhance mHealth delivery by promoting the awareness and use of health apps, while pharmacy students and early career pharmacists allow broader perspective for further development. This study aimed to explore the experiences and attitudes of pharmacy students and pharmacists, on the use, advantages and possible improvement of available mHealth platforms in Serbia. METHODS One-on-one interviews were conducted online in two phases, during March and April 2020 (n = 40) and during March 2021 (n = 20), using a published, validated interview guide which was adapted for this study. Interviews were transcribed ad verbatim, coded and thematically analysed. RESULTS Although participants recognized room for optimization, most apps had satisfactory user experience. Participants used health apps as a source of updated information and tools in education and work, but also for self-development. During working hours, participants mostly used medication-related apps, however, it was shown that they use different health apps in order to provide the best possible care to patients. CONCLUSIONS Greater insight into usage, expectations, benefits and challenges of mHealth in pharmacy was obtained and can lead into better informed design of health apps to encourage students and pharmacists, both as professionals and individuals, on the path of their continuous improvement.

Abstract
Mobile diet apps assist in tracking nutritional intake and managing healthy eating diets. Effective diet apps incorporate specific population-tailored behavior change strategies (BCS) for user engagement and adherence to healthy diets. Malaysians have their unique behaviors and customs surrounding food and diet. This study aims to explore the perceptions, views, and experiences of healthy Malaysian adults with diet monitoring apps, by focusing on the BCS that engages users to use diet mobile apps and adhere to a healthy diet. A qualitative approach utilizing semi-structured in-depth interviews was conducted using a topic guide based on the Theory of Planned Behavior and trigger materials. Twenty interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Five themes emerged from the data, which are; instilling self-awareness, closed online group support, shaping knowledge, personalization, and user-friendly design. Influence by one's social circle and attractiveness of app features may initiate users' interest and help them engage with mobile diet apps, but the app's ability to raise awareness of progress and impart useful knowledge help them adhere and comply to a healthier diet in the long run. The results from this study may help improve the behavior change strategy features of mobile diet apps for Malaysian adults.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Conduct a multicenter proof-of-concept clinical evaluation to assess the accuracy of an artificial intelligence system on a smartphone for automated detection of diabetic foot ulcers. METHODS The evaluation was undertaken with patients with diabetes (n = 81) from September 2020 to January 2021. A total of 203 foot photographs were collected using a smartphone, analysed using the artificial intelligence system, and compared against expert clinician judgement, with 162 images showing at least one ulcer, and 41 showing no ulcer. Sensitivity and specificity of the system against clinician decisions was determined and inter- and intra-rater reliability analysed. RESULTS Predictions/decisions made by the system showed excellent sensitivity (0.9157) and high specificity (0.8857). Merging of intersecting predictions improved specificity to 0.9243. High levels of inter- and intra-rater reliability for clinician agreement on the ability of the artificial intelligence system to detect diabetic foot ulcers was also demonstrated (Kα > 0.8000 for all studies, between and within raters). CONCLUSIONS We demonstrate highly accurate automated diabetic foot ulcer detection using an artificial intelligence system with a low-end smartphone. This is the first key stage in the creation of a fully automated diabetic foot ulcer detection and monitoring system, with these findings underpinning medical device development.

Abstract
We examined objective smartphone use (via a mobile sensing application) and self-reported desire to change phone use among a sample of 268 U.S. parents of infants. Using the Transtheoretical Stages of Change model as a conceptual foundation, we contextualized their attitudes and behaviors and explored how phone use and desire to change relate to perceptions of distraction and problematic phone use around their child. Latent profile analysis of parents' precontemplation, contemplation, and action scores revealed two classes-precontemplators (15%) and contemplators (85%). Contemplators-those considering or desiring change-showed more bedtime phone use and general social networking than precontemplors; however, there were no significant differences between groups on other objective use measures (e.g., total daily duration of phone use, phone use around child, etc.). Contemplators also showed greater perceptions of problematic use around their child and parenting distraction. Moreover, parents' problematic use and distraction were predictive of higher contemplation scores, even after controlling for demographic and objective phone use variables. Taken together, these results suggest that perceptions of phone use as problematic may be more important than actual phone habits, especially total phone use duration, for desire to change. Suggestions for future research and intervention are provided.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many university students experience mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. To support their mental health, a transdiagnostic mobile app intervention has been developed. The intervention provides short exercises rooted in various approaches (eg, positive psychology, mindfulness, self-compassion, and acceptance and commitment therapy) that aim to facilitate adaptive emotion regulation (ER) to help students cope with the various stressors they encounter during their time at university. OBJECTIVE The goals of this study are to investigate whether the intervention and its components function as intended and how participants engage with them. In addition, this study aims to monitor changes in distress symptoms and ER skills and identify relevant contextual factors that may moderate the intervention's impact. METHODS A sequential explanatory mixed methods design combining a microrandomized trial and semistructured interviews will be used. During the microrandomized trial, students (N=200) will be prompted via the mobile app twice a day for 3 weeks to evaluate their emotional states and complete a randomly assigned intervention (ie, an exercise supporting ER) or a control intervention (ie, a health information snippet). A subsample of participants (21/200, 10.5%) will participate in interviews exploring their user experience with the app and the completed exercises. The primary outcomes will be changes in emotional states and engagement with the intervention (ie, objective and subjective engagement). Objective engagement will be evaluated through log data (eg, exercise completion time). Subjective engagement will be evaluated through exercise likability and helpfulness ratings as well as user experience interviews. The secondary outcomes will include the distal outcomes of the intervention (ie, ER skills and distress symptoms). Finally, the contextual moderators of intervention effectiveness will be explored (eg, the time of day and momentary emotional states). RESULTS The study commenced on February 9, 2023, and the data collection was concluded on June 13, 2023. Of the 172 eligible participants, 161 (93.6%) decided to participate. Of these 161 participants, 137 (85.1%) completed the first phase of the study. A subsample of participants (18/172, 10.5%) participated in the user experience interviews. Currently, the data processing and analyses are being conducted. CONCLUSIONS This study will provide insight into the functioning of the intervention and identify areas for improvement. Furthermore, the findings will shed light on potential changes in the distal outcomes of the intervention (ie, ER skills and distress symptoms), which will be considered when designing a follow-up randomized controlled trial evaluating the full-scale effectiveness of this intervention. Finally, the results and data gathered will be used to design and train a recommendation algorithm that will be integrated into the app linking students to relevant content. Abstract
BACKGROUND Effective self-management of diabetes is crucial for improving clinical outcomes by maintaining glucose levels and preventing the exacerbation of the condition. Mobile health (mHealth) has demonstrated its significance in enhancing self-management practices. However, only 20% of Malaysians are familiar with mHealth technologies and use them for health management. OBJECTIVE This study aims to explore the perceived benefits and challenges, needs and preferences, and willingness of patients with diabetes to use mHealth apps for self-management of diabetes. METHODS The study involved one-on-one semistructured online interviews with a total of 15 participants, all of whom were aged 18 years or older and had been diagnosed with diabetes for more than 6 months. An interview guide was developed based on the constructs of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Health Information Technology Acceptance Model (HITAM), and the aesthetics factor derived from the Mobile Application Rating Scale. All interviews were recorded in audio format and transcribed verbatim. The interview content was then organized and coded using ATLAS.ti version 8. Thematic analysis was conducted in accordance with the recommended guidelines for analyzing the data. RESULTS From the interviews with participants, 3 key themes emerged regarding the perceived benefits of using mHealth app support in diabetes self-management. These themes were the ability to track and monitor diabetes control, assistance in making lifestyle modifications, and the facilitation of more informed treatment decision-making for health care professionals. The interviews with participants revealed 4 prominent themes regarding the perceived barriers to using mHealth app support for diabetes self-management. These themes were a lack of awareness about the availability of mHealth support, insufficient support in using mHealth apps, the perception that current mHealth apps do not align with users' specific needs, and limited digital literacy among users. The interviews with participants unveiled 4 key themes related to their needs and preferences concerning mHealth app support for diabetes self-management. These themes were the desire for educational information, user-friendly design features, carbohydrate-counting functionality, and the ability to engage socially with both peers and health care professionals. The majority of participants expressed their willingness to use mHealth apps if they received recommendations and guidance from health care professionals. CONCLUSIONS Patients generally perceive mHealth app support as beneficial for diabetes self-management and are willing to use these apps, particularly if recommended by health care professionals. However, several barriers may hinder the utilization of mHealth apps, including a lack of awareness and recommendations regarding these apps from health care professionals. To ensure the effective development of mHealth app support systems for diabetes self-management, it is crucial to implement user-centered design processes that consider the specific needs and preferences of patients. This approach will help create apps that are tailored to the requirements of individuals managing diabetes.

Abstract
During pregnancy, almost all women experience pregnancy-related symptoms. The relationship between symptoms and their association with pregnancy outcomes is not well understood. Many pregnancy apps allow pregnant women to track their symptoms. To date, the resulting data are primarily used from a commercial rather than a scientific perspective. In this work, we aim to examine symptom occurrence, course, and their correlation throughout pregnancy. Self-reported app data of a pregnancy symptom tracker is used. In this context, we present methods to handle noisy real-world app data from commercial applications to understand the trajectory of user and patient-reported data. We report real-world evidence from patient-reported outcomes that exceeds previous works: 1,549,186 tracked symptoms from 183,732 users of a smartphone pregnancy app symptom tracker are analyzed. The majority of users track symptoms on a single day. These data are generalizable to those users who use the tracker for at least 5 months. Week-by-week symptom report data are presented for each symptom. There are few or conflicting reports in the literature on the course of diarrhea, fatigue, headache, heartburn, and sleep problems. A peak in fatigue in the first trimester, a peak in headache reports around gestation week 15, and a steady increase in the reports of sleeping difficulty throughout pregnancy are found. Our work highlights the potential of secondary use of industry data. It reveals and clarifies several previously unknown or disputed symptom trajectories and relationships. Collaboration between academia and industry can help generate new scientific knowledge.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aging leads to changes in the body system, such as sarcopenia. This can result in several health issues, particularly physical and mobility dysfunction. Asian people typically have little awareness of sarcopenia. Thus, this study incorporated nursing instruction into the mobile application design to allow users to easily learn about sarcopenia. OBJECTIVE This study evaluated a model for predicting high-risk populations for sarcopenia in home settings. We further developed a sarcopenia nursing guidance mobile application and assessed the effectiveness of this application in influencing sarcopenia-related knowledge and self-care awareness among participants. METHODS Using a one-group pretest-posttest design, data were collected from 120 participants at a teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. This study used an artificial intelligence algorithm to evaluate a model for predicting high-risk populations for sarcopenia. We developed and assessed the sarcopenia nursing guidance mobile application using a questionnaire based on the Mobile Application Rating Scale. RESULTS The application developed in this study enhanced participants' sarcopenia-related knowledge and awareness regarding self-care. After the three-month intervention, the knowledge and awareness was effectively increase, total score was from 4.15 ± 2.35 to 6.65 ± 0.85 and were significant for all questionnaire items (p values < 0.05). On average, 96.1% of the participants were satisfied with the mobile app. The artificial intelligence algorithm positively evaluated the home-use model for predicting high-risk sarcopenia groups. CONCLUSIONS The mobile application of the sarcopenia nursing guidance for public use in home settings may help alleviate sarcopenia symptoms and reduce complications by enhancing individuals' self-care awareness and ability. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the adoption and perception of mobile health (mHealth) applications among community pharmacists in Malaysia. METHODS A cross-sectional survey using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted with 300 community pharmacists in the Klang Valley, Malaysia using a stratified sampling approach. The questionnaire consisted of 36 questions with three sections: demographic data, adoption of mHealth applications and perception towards mHealth applications. Descriptive and inferential tests as well as exploratory factor analysis were used to analyse the data. KEY FINDINGS Adoption of mHealth applications by community pharmacists for both professional and personal use was relatively high at 79.7%. Utilised mHealth applications were primarily from the medical references category, while applications for patient monitoring, personal care and fitness were used to a lesser degree. Among mHealth application users, only 65.7% recommended them to their patients. Overall perception towards mHealth applications was positive, but perception towards the benefits and favour of mHealth applications for their patients was lower. This was corroborated by the factor analysis, which identified four main factors explaining 59.9% of variance in the dataset. These factors were perception towards use in their own professional practice, perception on benefits and use in their patients, perception on specific features of mHealth applications, and reliability of mHealth applications. CONCLUSIONS Adoption of mHealth applications among community pharmacists in Malaysia is high. Community pharmacists are more likely to use mHealth applications professionally and personally but less likely to recommend them to patients due to less favourable perceptions on how patients will benefit from mHealth applications.

Abstract
The rapidly evolving digital health landscape necessitates updates to existing self-care models in nursing. This viewpoint paper revisits and evaluates prevalent models, recognizing their comprehensive exploration of self-care concepts while also identifying a gap in the incorporation of personal informatics. It underscores the missing link of human-technology interplay, an essential aspect in understanding self-care practices within digital generations. The author delineates the role of personal health tracking in self-care and the achievement of desired health outcomes. Based on these insights, the author proposes a refined, digitized self-care model that incorporates mobile health (mHealth) technologies and self-tracking behaviors. The paper concludes by advocating the application of this model for future mHealth nursing interventions, providing a framework for facilitating patient self-care and improving health and well-being in the era of digital health.

Abstract
Background In recent years, mobile health (mHealth) has gradually developed in China, and intelligent medicine has become an important research topic. However, there are still significant problems in mHealth applications (apps). Although healthcare professionals and patients are the main users, few studies have focused on their perceptions of the quality of mHealth apps. Objective This study aimed to (1) understand the respective perceptions of healthcare professionals and patients regarding mHealth apps, (2) assess what barriers exist that influence the user experience, and (3) explore how to improve the quality of mHealth apps and the development of the mHealth market in China. The study aims to promote the standardization of mHealth apps and provide effective information for the improvement and development of mHealth apps in the future. Methods Semistructured interviews with 9 patients and 14 healthcare professionals were conducted from January 2022 to April 2022 in the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University. The participants used mHealth apps for more than 3 months, including the "Good Mood" and "Peace and Safe Doctors" apps and apps developed by the hospital that were popular in China. Interview transcripts were analysed using thematic analysis. Results The following five themes were extracted: different concerns, hidden medical dangers, distance and insecurity, barriers for older people, and having positive perceptions of mHealth apps. Healthcare professionals prioritized simplicity in regard to mHealth apps, whereas patients rated effectiveness as the most crucial factor. The study also revealed several problems with mHealth apps, including insufficient information about physician qualifications, inaccurate medical content, nonstandard treatment processes, and unclear accountability, which led to a sense of distance and insecurity among participants. Older individuals faced additional obstacles when using mHealth apps. Despite these issues, the participants remained optimistic about the future of mHealth app development. Conclusion The utilization, advantages, and obstacles of mHealth applications for healthcare professionals and patients were explored through semistructured interviews. Despite the promising prospects for mHealth apps in China, numerous issues still need to be addressed. Enhancing the safety monitoring system and developing user-friendly mHealth apps for older adult patients are essential steps to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parents' play a proactive role in seeking health information to ensure optimal growth and development for their children. To date, very little is known about the differences between information seeking behaviour for child health and engagement with resources between culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and non-CALD parents. OBJECTIVE To investigate the differences in resources used and trusted for information related to child health behaviours and engagement with online features among CALD and non-CALD respondents in Australia. METHODS An analysis of a theory informed online cross-sectional survey was conducted using data from 122 CALD and 399 non-CALD parents who had a child younger than 24 months or were currently pregnant in Australia. Descriptive statistics and chi-squared were used to compare the differences, and logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with using health resources. RESULTS The most trusted sources for information reported by respondents were health professionals (76.2 %), websites run by health professionals (59.5 %), and government websites (53.2 %). Social media was significantly more trusted as a source of information for child health behaviours among CALD respondents than non-CALD respondents (odds ratio (OR) 1.92, P = 0.01). In contrast, booklets/ pamphlets and friends were significantly more trusted by non-CALD parents than for CALD parents (OR 0.54, P = 0.02). General search engines were used very frequently among CALD respondents for child health information (39.3 % vs 24.1 %, p = 0.013). Overall, the most common features respondents enjoyed on websites were images (81 %), videos (40.1 %), and discussion forums (39.9 %). CALD respondents significantly favoured videos (p = 0.003) while non-CALD respondents preferred obtaining information through attachments (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Despite parents' reporting health professionals, websites run by health professionals, and government websites as trustworthy, general search engines and social media were still the most frequently used information source for parents with young children. Credible resources parents deem as trustworthy should take into account effective and engaging means of disseminating information that are accessible to both CALD and non-CALD communities.

Abstract
As digital technologies such as smartphones and fitness bands become more ubiquitous, individuals can engage in self-monitoring and self-care, gaining greater control over their health trajectories along the life-course. These technologies appeal particularly to young people, who are more familiar with digital devices. How this digital transformation facilitates health promotion is therefore a topic of animated debate. However, most research to date focuses on the promise and peril of digital health promotion (DHP) in high-income settings, while DHP in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) remain largely unexplored. This narrative review aims to fill this gap by critically examining key ethical challenges of implementing DHP in LMICs, with a focus on young people. In the existing literature, we identified potential impediments as well as enabling conditions. Aspects to consider in unlocking the potential of DHP include (1) addressing the digital divide and structural injustice in data-related practices; (2) engaging the target population and responding to their specific needs given their economic, cultural, and social contexts; (3) monitoring the quality and impact of DHP over time; and (4) improving responsible technology governance and its implementation. Addressing these concerns could result in meaningful health benefits for populations lacking access to more conventional healthcare resources.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Interactive, mixed reality technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and holographic technology may provide a novel solution to fast-track the translation of evidence into practice. They may also help overcome barriers to both mental health and asthma management service uptake, such as cost, availability of appointments, fear of judgment, and quality of care. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate if mixed reality technology is an acceptable mechanism for the delivery of a component of cognitive and behavioral therapies for the management of elevated psychological distress among young people with asthma. METHODS To explore the perceived acceptability of these technologies, mixed reality tools were evaluated via qualitative, 1-on-1 interviews with young people with asthma and symptoms of psychological distress, parents/caregivers of young people with asthma and symptoms of psychological distress, and relevant health professionals. The Theoretical Framework of Acceptability was used for the deductive coding of the recorded interview transcripts. RESULTS This study enrolled the following participants: (1) 3 adolescents with asthma and symptoms of psychological distress with a mean age of 14 (SD 1.7) years; (2) 4 parents/caregivers of adolescents with asthma with a mean age of 55 (SD 14.6) years; and (3) 6 health professionals with a mean age of 40.8 (SD 4.3) years. A total of 4 constructs-experienced affective attitude, experienced effectiveness, self-efficacy, and intervention coherence-were coded in all participant transcripts. The most frequently coded constructs were experienced affective attitude and intervention coherence, which were reported a total of 96 times. The least frequently coded construct was anticipated opportunity cost, which was reported a total of 5 times. Participants were mostly positive about the mixed reality resources. However, some concerns were raised regarding ethicality, particularly regarding privacy, accessibility, and messaging. Participants noted the need for technology to be used in conjunction with face-to-face engagement with health professionals and that some patients would respond to this type of delivery mechanism better than others. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that mixed reality technology to deliver psychological interventions may be an acceptable addition to current health care practices for young people with asthma and symptoms of psychological distress. Abstract
This study evaluated the quality and usefulness of interactive mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps) for adults with cancer. The PRISMA guidelines were followed to add rigor to the search, as well as to the data collection and analysis. The apps available in the most used app stores (Google Play and Apple) with interactive tailored features were identified. To supplement this, a Google web search was also conducted. The apps were evaluated for their quality using the validated Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) and for their usefulness using a checklist of end users' desired features derived from the literature. The searches returned 3046 apps and 17 were retained for evaluation. The average quality score of the apps across the sample was 3.62/5 (SD 0.26, range: 3.14-4.06), with Outcomes4me scoring the highest. On average, the apps scored 50% (SD 2.5, range: 31-88%) on the usefulness checklist, with Cancer.net scoring the highest. The lowest-scoring categories were communications features on the usefulness checklist and "information" on the MARS, indicating areas for future work. The findings identified the apps of an acceptable quality and usefulness that could be recommended to those with cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lifestyle-related diseases caused by inadequate diet and physical activity cause premature death, loss of healthy life years, and increased health care costs. Randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies indicate that preventive digital health interventions (P-DHIs) can be effective in preventing these health problems, but the results of these studies are mixed. Adoption studies have identified multiple factors related to individuals and the context in which they live that complicate the transfer of positive results from RCT studies to practical use. Implementation studies have revealed barriers to the large-scale implementation of mobile health (mHealth) solutions in general. Consequently, there is no clear path to delivering predictable outcomes from P-DHIs and achieving effectiveness when scaling up interventions to reduce health problems in society. OBJECTIVE This research aimed to expand our understanding of how to increase the outcome predictability of P-DHIs by focusing on physical activity and diet behaviors and amplify our understanding of how to improve effectiveness in large-scale implementations. METHODS The research objective was pursued through a multidisciplinary scoping review. This scoping review used the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) as a guide. A comprehensive search of Web of Science and PubMed limited to English-language journal articles published before January 2022 was conducted. Google Scholar was used for hand searches. Information systems theory was used to identify key constructs influencing outcomes of IT in general. Public health and mHealth literature were used to identify factors influencing the adoption of, outcomes from, and implementation of P-DHIs. Finally, the P-DHI investment model was developed based on information systems constructs and factors from the public health and mHealth literature. RESULTS In total, 203 articles met the eligibility criteria. The included studies used a variety of methodologies, including literature reviews, interviews, surveys, and RCT studies. The P-DHI investment model suggests which constructs and related factors should be emphasized to increase the predictability of P-DHI outcomes and improve the effectiveness of large-scale implementations. CONCLUSIONS The research suggests that outcome predictability could be improved by including descriptions of the constructs and factors in the P-DHI investment model when reporting from empirical studies. Doing so would increase our understanding of when and why P-DHIs succeed or fail. The effectiveness of large-scale implementations may be improved by using the P-DHI investment model to evaluate potential difficulties and possibilities in implementing P-DHIs to create better environments for their use before investing in them and when designing and implementing them. The cost-effectiveness of large-scale implementations is unknown; implementations are far more complicated than just downloading and using apps, and there is uncertainty accompanying implementations given the lack of coordinated control over the constructs and factors that influence the outcome.

BACKGROUND Children and young people's mental health is a growing public health concern, which is further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mobile health apps, particularly those using passive smartphone sensor data, present an opportunity to address this issue and support mental well-being. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to develop and evaluate a mobile mental health platform for children and young people, Mindcraft, which integrates passive sensor data monitoring with active self-reported updates through an engaging user interface to monitor their well-being. METHODS A user-centered design approach was used to develop Mindcraft, incorporating feedback from potential users. User acceptance testing was conducted with a group of 8 young people aged 15-17 years, followed by a pilot test with 39 secondary school students aged 14-18 years, which was conducted for a 2-week period. RESULTS Mindcraft showed encouraging user engagement and retention. Users reported that they found the app to be a friendly tool helping them to increase their emotional awareness and gain a better understanding of themselves. Over 90% of users (36/39, 92.5%) answered all active data questions on the days they used the app. Passive data collection facilitated the gathering of a broader range of well-being metrics over time, with minimal user intervention. CONCLUSIONS The Mindcraft app has shown promising results in monitoring mental health symptoms and promoting user engagement among children and young people during its development and initial testing. The app's user-centered design, the focus on privacy and transparency, and a combination of active and passive data collection strategies have all contributed to its efficacy and receptiveness among the target demographic. By continuing to refine and expand the app, the Mindcraft platform has the potential to contribute meaningfully to the field of mental health care for young people.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Celiac disease is a major public health problem in many countries, including Iran. Considering the disease's exponential spread throughout the world and its risk factors, identifying the educational priorities and minimum data required to control and treat the disease is of great significance. METHODS The present study was conducted in two phases in 2022. In the first phase, a questionnaire was developed based on the information obtained from a review of the literature. Later, the questionnaire was administered to 12 pundits in the fields of nutrition (n = 5), internal medicine (n = 4), and gastroenterology (n = 3). As a result, the necessary and important educational content was determined for developing the Celiac Self-Care System. RESULTS According to the experts' viewpoints, the educational needs of patients were classified into nine categories of demographic information, clinical information, long-term complications, comorbidity, tests, medications, dietary recommendations, general recommendations, technical capabilities as well as 105 subcategories. CONCLUSIONS Due to the increased prevalence of Celiac disease and the lack of an established minimum set of data, determining the required educational information is of great importance at the national level. Such information could be useful in implementing educational health programs to raise the public level of awareness. In the field of education, such contents can be employed in planning new technology based on mobile phones (mobile health), preparing registries, and producing widely used content.

Abstract
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE SUBJECT?: Self-management is essential in the treatment of those who have bipolar disorder. There are many apps to support self-management, but we know that these apps only sometimes cover the users' needs. WHAT IS ADDED TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: In our research, we made an inventory of apps that people with bipolar disorder use to cover their needs in self-management. We also have searched for the reasons to start, continue, switch or quit the use of those apps. We found that 44% (n = 18) of our respondents use health-related apps for self-management purposes. Apps for physical activity, planning and structure and apps for relaxation were most used. In the use of apps, the "freedom of choice" and user-friendliness are the most important in continuing the use of apps, while malfunctioning and "not fitting in individual needs" the main reasons were for quitting the use of apps. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Various apps can be used for self-management purposes as long as these apps meet the individual user's requirements. Clinicians and patients should have a broad view when looking for suitable apps and not limit the search to just professional apps. In developing new apps, patients, clinicians and developers should collaborate in the development process, requirements and design. ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Self-management is one of the cornerstones in the treatment of bipolar disorder (BD). Complementing interventions by apps are seen as a good opportunity to support self-management. However, there is insufficient knowledge about understanding the use of health-related applications by consumers with BD for self-management purposes. AIM The study aims to gain insight from patients diagnosed with BD about reasons to use, continue or discontinue health-related apps. METHOD This study employed a mixed-method design in which 41 participants diagnosed with BD participated in a quantitative survey, and 11 participants also participated in an in-depth interview. RESULTS The survey showed that 44% (n = 18) of the participants use health-related apps, and 26.8% (n = 11) use those apps consistently. Interviews revealed that adjustability, usability, trustworthiness and the guarantee of privacy were the main reasons determining whether participants used or terminated the use of a health-related app. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Although we found that a substantial number of patients diagnosed with BD use one or more apps to support self-management, their use is often discontinued due to content that needs more robust to address their needs. Besides appropriate content, tailoring and persuasive technologies will likely promote the continued use of an app for self-management purposes. Cooperation between those diagnosed with bipolar disorder and health professionals (like mental health nurses) in developing and designing applications that are aimed to support self-management in BD is necessary for successful implementation and adaptation.

Abstract
The adoption of Mobile Health (mHealth) for self-management is growing. mHealth solutions are commonly used in public healthcare and health services, where they are appreciated for their ease of use, broad reach, and wide acceptance. Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) is one of the most common health problems and a leading cause of disability. As such, it imposes a tremendous burden on patients and society. Studies have proposed that mHealth self-management solutions, such as mobile applications, can supplement traditional care methods and benefit patients, particularly in self-managing CLBP easier. To this end, the number of available mobile applications for CLBP has increased. This paper i) provides an overview of scientific studies on mobile applications for CLBP management from three different viewpoints: researchers, health professionals, and patients, ii) uncovers the application features that were seen as beneficial in the studies, and iii) contrasts the currently available applications for CLBP in Google Play Store and Apple App Store against the discovered features. The findings show that "Personalization and customization" is the most significant feature as it is beneficial from stakeholders' viewpoint and is represented by most applications. In contrast, "Gamification" and "Artificial intelligence" are the least significant features, indicating a lack of attention from application creators and researchers in this area.
