Abstract
In vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, bioinert poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bone cement is a conventional filler employed for quick stabilization of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs). However, because of the poor osteointegration, excessive stiffness, and high curing temperature of PMMA, the implant loosens, the adjacent vertebrae refracture, and thermal necrosis of the surrounding tissue occurs frequently. This investigation addressed these issues by incorporating the small intestinal submucosa (SIS) into PMMA (SIS-PMMA). In vitro analyses revealed that this new SIS-PMMA bone cement had improved porous structure, as well as reduced compressive modulus and polymerization temperature compared with the original PMMA. Furthermore, the handling properties of SIS-PMMA bone cement were not significantly different from PMMA. The in vitro effect of PMMA and SIS-PMMA was investigated on MC3T3-E1 cells via the Transwell insert model to mimic the clinical condition or directly by culturing cells on the bone cement samples. The results indicated that SIS addition substantially enhanced the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells. Additionally, the bone cement's biomechanical properties were also assessed in a decalcified goat vertebrae model with a compression fracture, which indicated the SIS-PMMA had markedly increased compressive strength than PMMA. Furthermore, it was proved that the novel bone cement had good biosafety and efficacy based on the International Standards and guidelines. After 12 weeks of implantation, SIS-PMMA indicated significantly more osteointegration and new bone formation ability than PMMA. In addition, vertebral bodies with cement were also extracted for the uniaxial compression test, and it was revealed that compared with the PMMA-implanted vertebrae, the SIS-PMMA-implanted vertebrae had greatly enhanced maximum strength. Overall, these findings indicate the potential of SIS to induce efficient fixation between the modified cement surface and the host bone, thereby providing evidence that the SIS-PMMA bone cement is a promising filler for clinical vertebral augmentation.

Abstract
The skin barrier is essential to prevent pathogenic invasion. When injury occurs, multiple biological pathways are promptly activated and wound repair processes are triggered. The effective healing of wounds is essential to our survival, and dysfunction could result from aberrant wound repair. Preparation of many hydrogels, which involve the addition of growth/cell factors or mimic extracellular matrix (ECM) components, has not resulted in significant advances in tissue recovery. ECM contains a large number of biologically active molecules that activate a variety of cellular transduction pathways, which are essential for wound repair. Here, we prepared hyaluronic acid-dopamine-thiourea (HA-DA-NCSN) hydrogels exhibiting ultrafast gelation in situ, following the methods of Xu et al., and subsequently designed a hydrogel containing ECM particles. In addition, the loaded ECM material, specifically decellularized ECM material, not only enhanced the strength of the hydrogel network, but also delivered bioactive substances that make it a suitable platform for skin wound repair. The ECM hydrogel has great potential as an efficient bioactive wound dressing. Our research suggested that this strategy is likely to improve skin wound closure in rat skin wound models. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Extensive research has explored the link between saturated fatty acids (SFAs) and cardiovascular diseases, alongside other biological dysfunctions. Yet, their association with cancer risk remains a topic of debate among scholars. The present study aimed to elucidate this association through a robust meta-analysis. METHODS PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched systematically to identify relevant studies published until December 2023. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used as the primary metric for evaluating the quality of the included studies. Further, fixed- or random-effects models were adopted to determine the ORs and the associated confidence intervals using the Stata15.1 software. The subsequent subgroup analysis revealed the source of detection and the cancer types, accompanied by sensitivity analyses and publication bias evaluations. RESULTS The meta-analysis incorporated 55 studies, comprising 38 case-control studies and 17 cohort studies. It revealed a significant positive correlation between elevated levels of total SFAs and the cancer risk (OR of 1.294; 95% CI: 1.182-1.416; P-value less than 0.001). Moreover, elevated levels of C14:0, C16:0, and C18:0 were implicated in the augmentation of the risk of cancer. However, no statistically significant correlation of the risk of cancer was observed with the elevated levels of C4:0, C6:0, C8:0, C10:0, C12:0, C15:0, C17:0, C20:0, C22:0, and C24:0. Subgroup analysis showed a significant relationship between excessive dietary SFA intake, elevated blood SFA levels, and heightened cancer risk. Increased total SFA levels correlated with higher risks of breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers, but not with lung, pancreatic, ovarian, or stomach cancers. CONCLUSION High total SFA levels were correlated with an increased cancer risk, particularly affecting breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Higher levels of specific SFA subtypes (C14:0, C16:0, and C18:0) are also linked to an increased cancer risk. The findings of the present study would assist in providing dietary recommendations for cancer prevention, thereby contributing to the development of potential strategies for clinical trials in which diet-related interventions would be used in combination with immunotherapy to alter the levels of SFAs in patients and thereby improve the outcomes in cancer patients. Nonetheless, further high-quality studies are warranted to confirm these associations.

Abstract
Extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffolds are widely applied in the field of regeneration as the result of their irreplaceable biological advantages, and the preparation of ECM scaffolds into ECM hydrogels expands the applications to some extent. However, weak mechanical properties of current ECM materials limit the complete exploitation of ECM's biological advantages. To enable ECM materials to be utilized in applications requiring high strength, herein, we created a kind of new ECM material, ECM film, and evaluated its mechanical properties. ECM films exhibited outstanding toughness with no cracks after arbitrarily folding and crumpling, and dramatically high strength levels of 86 ± 17.25 MPa, the maximum of which was 115 MPa. Such spectacular high-strength and high-toughness films, containing only pure ECM without any crosslinking agents and other materials, far exceed current pure natural polymer gel films and even many composite gel films and synthetic polymer gel films. In addition, both PC12 cells and Schwann cells cultured on the surface of ECM films, especially Schwann cells, showed good proliferation, and the neurite outgrowth of the PC12 cells was promoted, indicating the application potential of ECM film in peripheral nerve repair.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Improving the mechanical properties and angiogenesis of acellular scaffolds before transplantation is an important challenge facing the development of acellular liver grafts. The present study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxicity and angiogenesis of polyethylene glycol (PEG) crosslinked decellularized single liver lobe scaffolds (DLSs), and establish its suitability as a graft for long-term liver tissue engineering. METHODS Using mercaptoacrylate produced by the Michael addition reaction, DLSs were first modified using N-succinimidyl S-acetylthioacetate (SATA), followed by cross-linking with PEG as well as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The optimal concentration of agents and time of the individual steps were identified in this procedure through biomechanical testing and morphological analysis. Subsequently, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were seeded on the PEG crosslinked scaffolds to detect the proliferation and viability of cells. The scaffolds were then transplanted into the subcutaneous tissue of Sprague-Dawley rats to evaluate angiogenesis. In addition, the average number of blood vessels was evaluated in the grafts with or without PEG at days 7, 14, and 21 after implantation. RESULTS The PEG crosslinked DLS maintained their three-dimensional structure and were more translucent after decellularization than native DLS, which presented a denser and more porous network structure. The results for Young's modulus proved that the mechanical properties of 0.5 PEG crosslinked DLS were the best and close to that of native livers. The PEG-VEGF-DLS could better promote cell proliferation and differentiation of HUVECs compared with the groups without PEG cross-linking. Importantly, the average density of blood vessels was higher in the PEG-VEGF-DLS than that in other groups at days 7, 14, and 21 after implantation in vivo. CONCLUSIONS The PEG crosslinked DLS with VEGF could improve the biomechanical properties of native DLS, and most importantly, their lack of cytotoxicity provides a new route to promote the proliferation of cells in vitro and angiogenesis in vivo in liver tissue engineering.

Abstract
Background Adverse childhood experiences are demonstrated risk factors for depression, a common co-morbidity of multiple sclerosis, but are understudied among people with multiple sclerosis. Objective Estimate the association between adverse childhood experiences and depression among 1,990 adults with multiple sclerosis. Methods Participants were members of Kaiser Permanente Northern California from two studies between 2006 and 2021 and were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis by a neurologist. Adverse childhood experiences were assessed using two instruments, including the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Participants self-reported ever experiencing a major depressive episode. Meta-analysis random effects models and logistic regression were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and a history of depression across study samples. Adverse childhood experiences were expressed as any/none, individual events, and counts. Models adjusted for sex, birth year, race, and ethnicity. Results Exposure to any adverse childhood experiences increased the odds of depression in people with multiple sclerosis (OR: 1.71, 95% CI: 1.21-2.42). Several individual adverse childhood experiences were also strongly associated with depression, including "significant abuse or neglect" (OR: 2.79, 95% CI: 2.11-3.68). Conclusion Findings suggest that adverse childhood experiences are associated with depression among people with multiple sclerosis. Screening for depression should be done regularly, especially among people with multiple sclerosis with a history of adverse childhood experiences.

Abstract
Background Core decompression and allogenic non-vascularized bone grafting are used in the early stage of osteonecrosis of the femoral head for a period. Since the comparison of the core decompression and allogenic non-vascularized bone grafting are less reported, the purpose of our study was to investigate the difference of two procedures in patients with the osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Methods Between January 2018 and January 2019, 59 patients (64 hips) were divided into core decompression group and non-vascularized bone grafting group according to their procedures. The primary outcomes are visual analog score (VAS) and Harris hip score. Survivorship was analyzed with the collapse of the femoral head or conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA) as the endpoint. Results At the final follow-up, two hips underwent THA in the core decompression group and three hips in the allogenic non-vascularized bone grafting group. The radiographic survival rates were 76.9% and 77.3%, respectively, in both groups. The VAS of the core decompression group was 6.08 ± 1.164 and 3.30 ± 1.431 before and 2 years after operation (P < 0.05), respectively. The VAS of the allogenic non-vascularized bone grafting group was 6.00 ± 1.209 and 3.15 ± 1.537 before and 2 years after operation (P < 0.05), respectively. The Harris hip score of the core decompression group was 52.49 ± 6.496 before operation, and 2 years after operation, it increased by 81.14 ± 8.548 (P < 0.05); The Harris hip score of allogenic the non-vascularized bone grafting group was 53.56 ± 5.925 and 81.33 ± 7.243 before and 2 years after operation (P < 0.05), respectively. In the core decompression group, body mass index (BMI) >25 kg/m2 was correlated with the collapse of femoral head or conversion to THA [P < 0.05; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.006-1.334], and Association Research Circulation Osseous (ARCO) III was correlated with the collapse of femoral head or conversion to THA (P < 0.05; 95% CI, 2.514-809.650). In the allogenic non-vascularized bone grafting group, age, BMI, and ARCO stage were significantly associated with the collapse of femoral head or conversion to THA (P > 0.05). Conclusion The clinical survival rate of the femoral head in the core decompression group was slightly better than that in the allogenic non-vascularized bone grafting group. There was no significant difference in the radiographic survival rate of the femoral head between the two groups. Both groups can alleviate pain and improve functional of patients, but there was no significant difference in the degree of improvement. In the core decompression group, BMI >25 kg/m2 and ARCO III correlated with the collapse of femoral head or conversion to THA. In the allogenic non-vascularized bone grafting group, no association was found between age, BMI, and ARCO stage and the collapse of femoral head or conversion to THA. Level of evidence III.

Abstract
Fracture treatment requires a detailed understanding of the state and displacement of the fracture site. Before X-ray was discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895, it was almost impossible to know the location of the fracture fragments wrapped in skin and muscle. The early classical theories for this were mainly based on the medical theories of Hippocrates and Galen. The more clinical cases were accumulated, the more cases were inconsistent with the classical theories. Doctors either chose to stick to the classics for their diagnose or believed in their own judgment. The development of anatomy gradually became a means of examining fracture fragments. With the development of anatomy during and after the "Renaissance", doctors began to collect a large number of bone specimens and communicated this information to other doctors. Doctors discarded the strict adherence to early classical theories, and finally constructed a theoretical model to explain clinical questions with anatomical evidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Migraine is common among people with multiple sclerosis (MS), but the reasons for this are unknown. We tested three hypothesized mechanisms for this observed comorbidity, including migraine is a risk factor for MS, genetic variants are shared between the conditions, and migraine is a result of MS. METHODS Data were from two sources: publicly available summary statistics from genome-wide association studies of MS (N=115,748) and migraine (N=375,752 and N=361,141), and a case-control study of MS recruited from the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Health Plan (N=1,991). For the latter participants, migraine status was ascertained using a validated electronic health record migraine probability algorithm or self-report. Using the public summary statistics, we used two-sample Mendelian randomization to test whether a migraine genetic instrumental variable was associated with MS. We used linkage disequilibrium score regression and LOGODetect to ascertain whether MS and migraine shared genetic variants across the genome and regionally. Using the Northern California MS cohort, we used logistic regression to identify whether people with both MS and migraine had different odds of clinical characteristics (e.g., age at MS onset, Perceived Deficits Questionnaire, depression) or MS-specific risk factors (e.g., body mass index, smoking status, infectious mononucleosis status) compared to people with MS without migraine.¬¬ RESULTS: We did not find evidence supporting migraine as a causal risk factor for MS (p=0.29). We did, however, identify four major histocompatibility complex (MHC) loci shared between MS and migraine. Among the Northern California MS cohort, 774 (39%) experienced a migraine. People with both MS and migraine from this cohort were more likely to ever smoke (odds ratio (OR)=1.30, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.08, 1.57), have worse self-reported cognitive deficits (OR=1.04, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.06), and ever experience depression (OR=1.48, 95% CI: 1.22, 1.80). DISCUSSION Our findings do not support migraine as a causal risk factor for MS. Several genetic variants, particularly in the MHC, may account for some of the overlap. It seems likely that migraine within the context of MS is a result of MS. Identifying what increases risk of migraine within MS might lead to improved treatment and quality of life.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aims to determine whether ESWT (extracorporeal shock wave therapy) affects ONFH (osteonecrosis of femoral head) in clinical outcomes and radiography outcomes. METHOD Two authors independently search the papers on the treatment of femoral head necrosis with extracorporeal shock wave in CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), VIP (China Science and Technology Journal Database), CSPD (China Science Periodical Database), Pubmed, Embase, and Springer databases. Search period from the inception dates to 2 June 2020 and have no limitations in language; two authors independently conducted a quality evaluation and data extraction for included studies and performed a meta-analysis with data extracted and calculate by using RevMan5. Registration number: CRD42020213580. RESULT Nine articles with 409 patients are included in this meta-analysis. The pooled results of HHS (Harris hip score) in eight studies with 337 hips show that ESWT achieves higher Harris scores compared to before treatment (MD = -19.95; 95% CI: -26.27, -13.64) and the difference is statistically significant (p < 0.01). The pooled results of VAS (visual analogue score) in seven studies with 253 hips show that ESWT achieves lower VAS compared to baseline (MD = 2.77; 95% CI: 1.88, 3.65) and the difference is statistically significant (p < 0.01). The pooled results of lesion of MRI with 164 hips show that ESWT decreases the lesion area of MRI (SMD = 1.03; CI: 0.75,1.30) and the difference is statistically significant (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION ESWT has an effect on pain relief and has a limited effect on motion function. Its effect may be better than surgical groups (core decompression and core decompression with bone grafting). But it cannot decrease the lesion area of the femoral head on MRI and stop disease progression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate effects of physiological hypoxic conditions on suspension and adherence of embryoid bodies (EBs) during differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and explore the underlying mechanisms. METHODS EBs in suspension culture were divided into normoxic (21% O2) and hypoxic (5% O2) groups, and those in adherent culture were divided into normoxic, hypoxic and hypoxia + HIF-1α inhibitor (echinomycin) groups. After characterization of the pluripotency with immunofluorescence assay, the hiPSCs were digested and suspended under normoxic and hypoxic conditions for 5 days, and the formation and morphological changes of the EBs were observed microscopically; the expressions of the markers genes of the 3 germ layers in the EBs were detected. The EBs were then inoculated into petri dishes for further culture in normoxic and hypoxic conditions for another 2 days, after which the adhesion and peripheral expansion rate of the adherent EBs were observed; the changes in the expressions of HIF-1α, β-catenin and VEGFA were detected in response to hypoxic culture and echinomycin treatment. RESULTS The EBs cultured in normoxic and hypoxic conditions were all capable of differentiation into the 3 germ layers. The EBs cultured in hypoxic conditions showed reduced apoptotic debris around them with earlier appearance of cystic EBs and more uniform sizes as compared with those in normoxic culture. Hypoxic culture induced more adherent EBs than normoxic culture (P < 0.05) with also a greater outgrowth rate of the adherent EBs (P < 0.05). The EBs in hypoxic culture showed significantly up-regulated mRNA expressions of β-catenin and VEGFA (P < 0.05) and protein expressions of HIF-1 α, β-catenin and VEGFA (P < 0.05), and their protein expresisons levels were significantly lowered after treatment with echinomycin (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Hypoxia can promote the formation and maturation of suspended EBs and enhance their adherence and post-adherent proliferation without affecting their pluripotency for differentiation into all the 3 germ layers. Our results provide preliminary evidence that activation of HIF-1α/β-catenin/VEGFA signaling pathway can enhance the differentiation potential of hiPSCs.

Abstract
Background: Biallelic variations in the armadillo repeat-containing 9 (ARMC9) gene were recently defined to cause Joubert syndrome (JS) type thirty. In this study, two unrelated families with probands displaying typical indications of JS were enrolled and underwent a series of clinical and genetic investigations. Methods: Routine evaluation including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was carried out. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed on the probands to detect causative variants. Next, in silico structural and molecular dynamic (MD) analysis was conducted on the missense variant for analyzing its intramolecular impact. Meanwhile, an in vitro study with the minigene system was performed to explore the specific impact on mRNA splicing of another variant. Results: Two unrelated patients from two different families came to our hospital exhibiting typical JS presentations, such as the “molar tooth sign.” Using WES, we identified that both probands carried the compound heterogeneous variants in ARMC9 (NM_025139.6), with c.1878+1G > A and c.895C > T (p.Arg299Ter) in family 1 and c.1878+1G > A and c.1027C > T (p.Arg343Cys) in family 2. These variants were inherited from their unaffected parents by Sanger sequencing, respectively, and ARMC9 c.895C > T (p.Arg299Ter) and c.1878+1G > A were novel variants. In silico analysis indicated the c.1027C > T (p.Arg343Cys) would likely affect the secondary structure of the ARMC9 protein. The minigene study demonstrated that the splice site variant c.1878+1G > A abolished the canonical donor site, resulting in an 18bp intronic retention of intron 20. Conclusion: The findings in this study expanded the mutation spectrum of ARMC9-associated JS, and we suggested that the function of ARMC9 in the pathogenesis of JS might involve the development of primary cilia, after discussing the function of the ARMC9 protein.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to survey the overall situation of birth defects (BDs) among citizens of Hangzhou, China, and the risk factors of different BD types. MATERIAL AND METHODS We collected the data of 4349 perinatal infants with BDs in Hangzhou. The potentially associated risk factors of BDs were recorded and logistic regression analysis was used to predict the high incidence of BDs. RESULTS Among all perinatal infants with BDs, there were 4105 (94.3%) single births, 225 (5.2%) twin births, and 10 (0.2%) multiple births. In clinical outcomes, there were 2477 (57.0%) live births, 1806 (41.5%) dead fetuses, and 11 (0.3%) stillbirths. Down syndrome ranked first, accounting for 30.7% of the total births, followed by cleft lip and polydactyly. Low family income, nulliparity, high parity, high education level, and taking contraceptives in early pregnancy were found to be risk factors of Down syndrome. Low parity, low education level, and pesticide exposure were found to be risk factors of cleft lip. For polydactyly, young age of the mother and a parity above 0 were identified as risk factors. CONCLUSIONS Different risks factors can influence BD development and potentially help to predict specific BD types, such as demographic features and harmful exposure in early pregnancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown that diabetes mellitus is a common comorbidity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but the effects of diabetes or anti-diabetic medication on the mortality of COVID-19 have not been well described.
AIM To investigate the outcome of different statuses (with or without comorbidity) and anti-diabetic medication use before admission of diabetic after COVID-19.
METHODS In this multicenter and retrospective study, we enrolled 1422 consecutive hospitalized patients from January 21, 2020, to March 25, 2020, at six hospitals in Hubei Province, China. The primary endpoint was in-hospital mortality. Epidemiological material, demographic information, clinical data, laboratory parameters, radiographic characteristics, treatment and outcome were extracted from electronic medical records using a standardized data collection form. Most of the laboratory data except fasting plasma glucose (FPG) were obtained in first hospitalization, and FPG was collected in the next day morning. Major clinical symptoms, vital signs at admission and comorbidities were collected. The treatment data included not only COVID-19 but also diabetes mellitus. The duration from the onset of symptoms to admission, illness severity, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and length of hospital stay were also recorded. All data were checked by a team of sophisticated physicians.
RESULTS Patients with diabetes were 10 years older than non-diabetic patients [(39 - 64) vs (56 - 70), P < 0.001] and had a higher prevalence of comorbidities such as hypertension (55.5% vs 21.4%, P < 0.001), coronary heart disease (CHD) (9.9% vs 3.5%, P < 0.001), cerebrovascular disease (CVD) (3% vs 2.2%, P < 0.001), and chronic kidney disease (CKD) (4.7% vs 1.5%, P = 0.007). Mortality (13.6% vs 7.2%, P = 0.003) was more prevalent among the diabetes group. Further analysis revealed that patients with diabetes who took acarbose had a lower mortality rate (2.2% vs 26.1, P < 0.01). Multivariable Cox regression showed that male sex [hazard ratio (HR) 2.59 (1.68 - 3.99), P < 0.001], hypertension [HR 1.75 (1.18 - 2.60), P = 0.006), CKD [HR 4.55 (2.52-8.20), P < 0.001], CVD [HR 2.35 (1.27 - 4.33), P = 0.006], and age were risk factors for the COVID-19 mortality. Higher HRs were noted in those aged ≥ 65 (HR 11.8 [4.6 - 30.2], P < 0.001) vs 50-64 years (HR 5.86 [2.27 - 15.12], P < 0.001). The survival curve revealed that, compared with the diabetes only group, the mortality was increased in the diabetes with comorbidities group (P = 0.009) but was not significantly different from the non-comorbidity group (P = 0.59).
CONCLUSION Patients with diabetes had worse outcomes when suffering from COVID-19; however, the outcome was not associated with diabetes itself but with comorbidities. Furthermore, acarbose could reduce the mortality in diabetic.

Abstract
Native decellularized extracellular matrix provides an adequate platform for tissues and organs and promotes the development of organogenesis and tissue remodeling. However, thrombosis poses a great challenge that hinders the transplantation for a substantial organ in vivo. Therefore, anticoagulation and re-reendothelialization of organ biological scaffolds are the primary concerns to be addressed before orthotopic transplantation. Herein, a heparinized decellularized kidney scaffold (HEP-DKSs) was prepared using end-point attachment technology, followed by binding the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to greatly improve the hemocompatibility and angiogenesis of DKSs. Based on the anticoagulant, co-culture of human umbilical vein endothelial cells, and subcapsular transplantation of kidney experiments, HEP-VEGF-DKSs are shown to reduce platelet adhesion, which is crucial for subsequent vascularization and slow release of heparin and VEGF, suggesting its ability of improve neovascularization. Taken together, these data indicated an optimal anticoagulation function of HEP-VEGF-DKSs and the potential of vascularization for regeneration of whole decellularized kidney.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Emerging evidence has highlighted the promising potential of the application of Zinc Oxide nanoparticles (nano-ZnO) but the mechanism by how it functions in liver cancer remains elusive. We aimed to explore the effect of nano-ZnO on liver cancer cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS Liver cancer cells Huh7 cells were transfected with GFP-LC3, and then, treated with DMSO, Sorafenib, and nano-ZnO respectively to set blank group, Sorafenib control group, and nano-ZnO group followed by the analysis of the expression of GFP-LC3, p53, and Caspase by Western blot and RT-qPCR, cell apoptosis and viability by flow cytometry and CCK-8 assay. RESULTS With a diameter of nano-ZnO 14.13±0.92 nm, the amount of GFP-LC3 protein was increased after treatment of nano-ZnO. Besides, the expressions of GFP-LC3, p53, and Caspase in Sorafenib group and nano-ZnO group were significantly higher than that of control group, while their levels were highest in nano-ZnO group (p<0.05). In nano-ZnO group, the values of D450nm at 24 h, 48h, and 72 h were 0.56±0.06, 0.39±0.05, and 0.22±0.04, respectively, and the apoptotic rate (83.11±2.79%) was significantly lower than that of blank group and control group. CONCLUSIONS Nano-ZnO induced autophagy, upregulated the p53 gene, and facilitated the apoptosis of liver cancer cells, indicating that nano-ZnO might be a therapeutic approach for the treatment of liver cancer patients.

Abstract
Objective: High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is an innovative non-invasive technology used for adenomyosis. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) is a hormone commonly used for adenomyosis. We investigated and assessed the efficacy of HIFU combined with GnRH-a for adenomyosis. Methods: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP databases for relevant articles published in Chinese or English that compared HIFU combined with GnRH-a vs. HIFU alone in patients with adenomyosis. The last literature search was completed on January 31, 2021. Two reviewers independently assessed study eligibility and assessed risk of bias. Another two reviewers extracted the data. The RevMan5.3 software was used for the data analysis. Changes in volume of the uterine and adenomyotic lesion were defined as the primary outcomes. The secondary outcomes were visual analog scale (VAS) scores for dysmenorrhea, menstrual volume scores, serum CA125 levels, and recurrence rate. This study is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021234301). Results: Three hundred and ninety potentially relevant articles were screened. Nine studies with data for 766 patients were finally included. Compared with the HIFU alone group, the HIFU combined with GnRH-a group had a higher rate of uterine volume reduction (MD 7.51, 95% CI 5.84-9.17, p < 0.00001), smaller adenomyotic lesion volume (MD 4.11, 95% CI 2.93-5.30, p < 0.00001), lower VAS score for dysmenorrhea (MD 1.27, 95% CI 0.54-2.01, p = 0.0007) and menstrual volume score (MD 0.88, 95% CI 0.73-1.04, p < 0.00001), and lower CA125 level (SMD 0.31, 95% CI 0.05-0.56, p = 0.02) after the procedure. The recurrence rate in the HIFU combined with GnRH-a group was lower than that in the HIFU alone group (RR 0.28, 95% CI 0.10-0.82, p = 0.02). Conclusions: Compared with HIFU treatment alone, HIFU combined with GnRH-a for the treatment of adenomyosis has greater efficacy in decreasing the volumes of the uterine and adenomyotic lesions and alleviating symptoms. However, since the number of the included studies was too small and most of them were written in Chinese, this conclusion needs to be referenced with caution. Abstract
Background Although chronic cardio-metabolic disease is a common comorbidity among patients with COVID-19, its effects on the clinical characteristics and outcome are not well known. Methods and Results This study aimed to explore the association between underlying cardio-metabolic disease and mortality with COVID-19 among hospitalized patients. This multicenter, retrospective, and real-world study was conducted from January 22, 2020 to March 25, 2020 in China. Data between patients with and without 5 main cardio-metabolic diseases including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and hyperlipidemia were compared. A total of 1303 hospitalized patients were included in the final analysis. Of them, 520 patients (39.9%) had cardio-metabolic disease. Compared with patients without cardio-metabolic disease, more patients with cardio-metabolic disease had COVID-related complications including acute respiratory distress syndrome (9.81% versus 3.32%; P<0.001), acute kidney injury (4.23% versus 1.40%; P=0.001), secondary infection (13.9% versus 9.8%; P=0.026), hypoproteinemia (12.1% versus 5.75%; P<0.001), and coagulopathy (19.4% versus 10.3%; P<0.001), had higher incidences of the severe type of COVID-19 (32.9% versus 16.7%; P<0.001), more were admitted to the intensive care unit (11.7% versus 7.92%; P=0.021), and required mechanical ventilation (9.8% versus 4.3%; P<0.001). When the number of the patients' cardio-metabolic diseases was 0, 1, and >2, the mortality was 4.2%, 11.1%, and 19.8%, respectively. The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio of mortality among patients with cardio-metabolic disease was 1.80 (95% CI, 1.17-2.77). Conclusions Cardio-metabolic disease was a common condition among hospitalized patients with COVID-19, and it was associated with higher risks of in-hospital mortality.

Abstract
Decellularized (DC) kidney scaffold shows great potential for renal recovering. Our study explored the effect of the DC kidney scaffolds treating on chronic renal failure (CRF) through grafting them on 5/6 nephrectomized (5/6 Nx) rat kidneys compared with gelatin sponges covered the incision edges. Blood urea nitrogen and angiotensin II were significantly lower in most time in scaffold-grafted groups. Remnant kidney tumor necrosis factor-α and fibroblast growth factor in scaffold-grafted groups significantly reduced in majority of time points compared with controls. But platelet-derived growth factor-BB showed a different varied tendency, first higher in scaffold groups on week 2, 4, 6, but lower on week 8, finally no difference on week 12 compared with gelatin-sponge groups. In addition, the index of glomerular sclerosis was significantly lesser in scaffold-grafted groups, and, the accumulation of collagen III and collagen IV decreased in scaffold-grafted groups on week 6, 8, 12 compared with gelatin-sponge groups. Moreover, DC scaffolds enhanced the expression of CD133 on week 2, 6, 8, 12. In conclusion, DC kidney scaffold altered the healing response after 5/6 nephrectomy and ameliorated renal injury to some degree. Therefore, DC kidney scaffold could be a promising therapeutic method on CRF.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The calcar femorale was identified long ago. However, our current understanding of the calcar is insufficient, and its related concepts are sometimes confused. The calcar femoral is an important anatomical structure of the proximal femur, and its function can be overlooked. In trauma, tumors, or other diseases, the calcar femorale can be destroyed or changed pathologically. As a result, the mechanical structure of the proximal femur becomes destroyed, causing pathological fractures. How to address the destruction of the calcar femorale or the damage to the calcar femorale is discussed in this article. MAIN TEXT Destruction of the calcar femorale is accompanied by many conditions, including trauma, tumors, and other diseases. The types of hip fractures caused by trauma include femoral neck fractures and intertrochanteric fractures. Dynamic hip screws, proximal femoral nail anti-rotation, and multiple parallel cannulate pins can be used in different conditions. When metastatic and primary bone tumors involve the calcar femorale, endoprostheses are widely used. Other diseases, such as fibrous dysplasia and aneurysmal bone cyst are treated differently. CONCLUSIONS The calcar femorale can redistribute stresses and the destruction of the calcar femorale can lead to an increase in posterior medial stress. Many factors need to be considered when deciding whether to reconstruct the calcar femorale. Effective treatment strategies for managing the destruction of calcar femorale will need first establishing the precise mechanism of the destruction of the calcar and then designing therapies towards these mechanisms. Further investigation to the calcar needs to be carried out.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in children is associated with better outcomes than in adults. The inflammatory response to COVID-19 infection in children remains poorly characterised. METHODS We retrospectively analysed the medical records of 127 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients aged 1 month to 16 years from Wuhan and Jingzhou of Hubei Province. Patients presented between January 25th and March 24th 2020. Information on clinical features, laboratory results, plasma cytokines/chemokines and lymphocyte subsets were analysed. FINDINGS Children admitted to hospital with COVID-19 were more likely to be male (67.7%) and the median age was 7.3 [IQR 4.9] years. All but one patient with severe disease was aged under 2 and the majority (5/7) had significant co-morbidities. Despite 53% having viral pneumonia on computed tomography (CT) scanning only 2 patients had low lymphocyte counts and no differences were observed in the levels of plasma proinflammatory cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6, tumour necrosis factor (TNF)- α , and interferon (IFN)- γ between patients with mild, moderate or severe disease. INTERPRETATIONS We observed that the immune responses of children to COVID-19 infection is significantly different from that seen in adults. Our evidence suggests that SARS-CoV-2 does not trigger a robust inflammatory response or 'cytokine storm' in children with COVID-19, and this may underlie the generally better outcomes seen in children with this disease.

Abstract
Background Advances in regenerative medicine technologies have been strongly proposed in the management of thyroid diseases. Mechanistically, the adoption of thyroid bioengineering requires a scaffold that shares a similar three-dimensional (3D) space structure, biomechanical properties, protein component, and cytokines to the native extracellular matrix (ECM). Methods 24 male New Zealand white rabbits were used in this experimental study. The rabbit thyroid glands were decellularized by immersion/agitation decellularization protocol. The 3D thyroid decellularization scaffolds were tested with histological and immunostaining analyses, scanning electron microscopy, DNA quantification, mechanical properties test, cytokine assay and cytotoxicity assays. Meanwhile, the decellularization scaffold were seeded with human thyroid follicular cells, cell proliferation and thyroid peroxidase were determined to explore the biocompatibility in vitro. Results Notably, through the imaging studies, it was distinctly evident that our protocol intervention minimized cellular materials and maintained the 3D spatial structure, biomechanical properties, ECM composition, and biologic cytokine. Consequently, the decellularization scaffold was seeded with human thyroid follicular cells, thus strongly revealing its potential in reinforcing cell adhesion, proliferation, and preserve important protein expression. Conclusions The adoption of our protocol to generate a decellularized thyroid scaffold can potentially be utilized in transplantation to manage thyroid diseases through thyroid bioengineering.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate mothers’ parenting stress and explore its relationship with associated demographic variables in two-child families involving preschool children. A sample of 621 two-child families and a comparison group of 319 one-child families from China participated in the study; the children were aged between 3 and 7. The results showed that (1) mothers of two-child families had higher parenting stress than those of one-child families; (2) within the two-child families, demographic variables, such as birth order, gender combination, and the age gap were found to have significant effects on maternal stress levels; and (3) in two-child families, families with an income of less than 3000 yuan had significantly higher maternal stress than families with an income of more than 6000 yuan.

Abstract
Chronic kidney disease has been recognized as a major public health problem worldwide and renal fibrosis is a common pathological process occurring in chronic renal failure. It is very promising to find the strategies to slow or even prevent the progression of fibrosis. This study focused on whether renal fibrosis decellularized scaffolds has the potential to be a model of cellular mechanisms of tissue fibrosis or donors for tissue engineering. In order to evaluate the feasibility of decellularized scaffolds derived from pathological kidneys, histology, proteomics and ELISA will be used to analysis the changes in the structure and main components of fibrotic tissue. The fibrosis model in this paper was induced by adenine-fed and the results showed that the structure of fibrotic scaffold was changed and some protein were up-regulated or down-regulated, but the cytokines associated with renal regeneration after injury were remained. In cell experiments, endothelial progenitor cells proliferated well, which proved that the fibrotic scaffolds have non-cytotoxic. All these conclusions indicate that the renal fibrosis decellularized scaffolds model has the ability to study fibrosis mechanism and the potential to be engineering donors as well as normal scaffolds. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to develop and externally validate a COVID-19 mortality risk prediction algorithm. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Five designated tertiary hospitals for COVID-19 in Hubei province, China. PARTICIPANTS We routinely collected medical data of 1364 confirmed adult patients with COVID-19 between 8 January and 19 March 2020. Among them, 1088 patients from two designated hospitals in Wuhan were used to develop the prognostic model, and 276 patients from three hospitals outside Wuhan were used for external validation. All patients were followed up for a maximal of 60 days after the diagnosis of COVID-19. METHODS The model discrimination was assessed by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and Somers' D test, and calibration was examined by the calibration plot. Decision curve analysis was conducted. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The primary outcome was all-cause mortality within 60 days after the diagnosis of COVID-19. RESULTS The full model included seven predictors of age, respiratory failure, white cell count, lymphocytes, platelets, D-dimer and lactate dehydrogenase. The simple model contained five indicators of age, respiratory failure, coronary heart disease, renal failure and heart failure. After cross-validation, the AUC statistics based on derivation cohort were 0.96 (95% CI, 0.96 to 0.97) for the full model and 0.92 (95% CI, 0.89 to 0.95) for the simple model. The AUC statistics based on the external validation cohort were 0.97 (95% CI, 0.96 to 0.98) for the full model and 0.88 (95% CI, 0.80 to 0.96) for the simple model. Good calibration accuracy of these two models was found in the derivation and validation cohort. CONCLUSION The prediction models showed good model performance in identifying patients with COVID-19 with a high risk of death in 60 days. It may be useful for acute risk classification. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate laboratory markers for COVID-19 progression in patients with different medical conditions. METHODS We performed a multicenter retrospective study of 836 cases in Hubei. To avoid the collinearity among the indicators, principal component analysis (PCA) followed by partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) was performed to obtain an overview of laboratory assessments. Multivariable logistic regression analysis and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analysis were respectively used to explore risk factors associated with disease severity and mortality. Survival analysis was performed in patients with the most common comorbidities. RESULTS Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and prealbumin were associated with disease severity in patients with or without comorbidities, indicated by both PCA/PLS-DA and multivariable logistic regression analysis. The mortality risk was associated with age, LDH, C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, and lymphopenia in patients with comorbidities. CRP was a risk factor associated with short-term mortality in patients with hypertension, but not liver diseases; additionally, D-dimer was a risk factor for death in patients with liver diseases. CONCLUSIONS Lactate dehydrogenase was a reliable predictor associated with COVID-19 severity and mortality in patients with different medical conditions. Laboratory biomarkers for mortality risk were not identical in patients with comorbidities, suggesting multiple pathophysiological mechanisms following COVID-19 infection.

Abstract
A beam-normal single-spin asymmetry generated in the scattering of transversely polarized electrons from unpolarized nucleons is an observable related to the imaginary part of the two-photon exchange process. We report a 2% precision measurement of the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry in elastic electron-proton scattering with a mean scattering angle of θ_{lab}=7.9° and a mean energy of 1.149 GeV. The asymmetry result is B_{n}=-5.194±0.067(stat)±0.082 (syst) ppm. This is the most precise measurement of this quantity available to date and therefore provides a stringent test of two-photon exchange models at far-forward scattering angles (θ_{lab}→0) where they should be most reliable.

Abstract
Spinal cord decellularized (DC) scaffolds can promote axonal regeneration and restore hindlimb motor function of spinal cord defect rats. However, scarring caused by damage to the astrocytes at the margin of injury can hinder axon regeneration. Olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) integrate and migrate with astrocytes at the site of spinal cord injury, providing a bridge for axons to penetrate the scars and grow into lesion cores. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether DC scaffolds carrying OECs could better promote axon growth. For these studies, DC scaffolds were cocultured with primary extracted and purified OECs. Immunofluorescence and electron microscopy were used for verification of cells adhere and growth on the scaffold. Scaffolds with OECs were transplanted into rat spinal cord defects to evaluate axon regeneration and functional recovery of hind limbs. Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) scoring was used to assess motor function recovery, and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and NF200-stained tissue sections were used to evaluate axonal regeneration and astrological scar distribution. Our results indicated that spinal cord DC scaffolds have good histocompatibility and spatial structure, and can promote the proliferation of adherent OECs. In animal experiments, scaffolds carrying OECs have better axon regeneration promoting protein expression than the SCI model, and improve the proliferation and distribution of astrocytes at the site of injury. These results proved that the spinal cord DC scaffold with OECs can promote axon regeneration at the site of injury, providing a new basis for clinical application.

Abstract
Early identification of severe patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is very important for individual treatment. We included 203 patients with COVID-19 by propensity score matching in this retrospective, case-control study. The effects of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) at admission on patients with COVID-19 were evaluated. We found that serum LDH levels had a 58.7% sensitivity and 82.0% specificity, based on a best cut-off of 277.00 U/L, for predicting severe COVID-19. And a cut-off of 359.50 U/L of the serum LDH levels resulted in a 93.8% sensitivity, 88.2% specificity for predicting death of COVID-19. Additionally, logistic regression analysis and Cox proportional hazards model respectively indicated that elevated LDH level was an independent risk factor for the severity (HR: 2.73, 95% CI: 1.25-5.97; P=0.012) and mortality (HR: 40.50, 95% CI: 3.65-449.28; P=0.003) of COVID-19. Therefore, elevated LDH level at admission is an independent risk factor for the severity and mortality of COVID-19. LDH can assist in the early evaluating of COVID-19. Clinicians should pay attention to the serum LDH level at admission for patients with COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study was aimed to identify the residence of human fibrocartilage stem cells (hFCSCs), characterize their stem cell properties and investigate the functional mechanisms which regulate fibrocartilage stem cells (FCSCs) toward chondrogenic differentiation during cartilage homeostasis and repairing. METHODS Cytological characteristics of hFCSCs and human orofacial mesenchymal stem cells (hOFMSCs) were analyzed. Chondrogenic potential of hFCSCs was compared with hOFMSCs both in vitro and in vivo. Regulatory role of SOX9 during FCSCs chondrogenesis was studied by shRNA interference in vitro, and by GFP+ FCSCs treatment in rat condylar cartilage defect model. SOX9 expression was also examined in temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA) patients' cartilage surface. RESULTS hFCSCs exhibited typical mesenchymal stem cell characteristics, with significantly stronger chondrogenic capability compared to hOFMSCs. Moreover, hFCSCs showed remarkably increased expression of SOX9. During cartilage pellet culture, there was stronger SOX9 expression in hFCSCs than hOFMSCs. SOX9 shRNA interference downregulated chondrogenic capability of hFCSCs in vitro, as well as disrupting migration and chondrogenic differentiation of GFP+ FCSCs toward mature chondrocytes in rat condylar cartilage defect. Of note, SOX9 expression was also found suppressed in the condylar superficial zone of TMJOA patients. CONCLUSION We found the existence of FCSCs in human TMJ cartilage, and characterized their distinct stem cell features. SOX9 is essential for hFCSCs chondrogenic differentiation, and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory role of SOX9 in hFCSCs would be important for exploring potential intervention strategy of condylar cartilage degradation during TMJ disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pulmonary fibrosis is a respiratory disease caused by the proliferation of fibroblasts and accumulation of the extracellular matrix (ECM). It is known that the lung ECM is mainly composed of a three-dimensional fiber mesh filled with various high-molecular-weight proteins. However, the small-molecular-weight proteins in the lung ECM and their differences between normal and fibrotic lung ECM are largely unknown. METHODS Healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (Rattus norvegicus) weighing about 150 to 200 g were randomly divided into three groups using random number table: A, B, and C and each group contained five rats. The rats in Group A were administered a single intragastric (i.g.) dose of 500 μL of saline as control, and those in Groups B and C were administered a single i.g. dose of paraquat (PQ) dissolved in 500 μL of saline (20 mg/kg). After 2 weeks, the lungs of rats in Group B were harvested for histological observation, preparation of de-cellularized lung scaffolds, and proteomic analysis for small-molecular-weight proteins, and similar procedures were performed on Group C and A after 4 weeks. The differentially expressed small-molecular-weight proteins (DESMPs) between different groups and the subcellular locations were analyzed. RESULTS Of the 1626 small-molecular-weight proteins identified, 1047 were quantifiable. There were 97 up-regulated and 45 down-regulated proteins in B vs. A, 274 up-regulated and 31 down-regulated proteins in C vs. A, and 237 up-regulated and 28 down-regulated proteins identified in C vs. B. Both the up-regulated and down-regulated proteins in the three comparisons were mainly distributed in single-organism processes and cellular processes within biological process, cell and organelle within cellular component, and binding within molecular function. Further, more up-regulated than down-regulated proteins were identified in most sub-cellular locations. The interactions of DESMPs identified in extracellular location in all comparisons showed that serum albumin (Alb) harbored the highest degree of node (25), followed by prolyl 4-hydroxylase beta polypeptide (12), integrin β1 (10), apolipoprotein A1 (9), and fibrinogen gamma chain (9). CONCLUSIONS Numerous PQ-induced DESMPs were identified in de-cellularized lungs of rats by high throughput proteomics analysis. The DESMPs between the control and treatment groups showed diversity in molecular functions, biological processes, and pathways. In addition, the interactions of extracellular DESMPs suggested that the extracellular proteins Alb, Itgb1, Apoa1, P4hb, and Fgg in ECM could be potentially used as biomarker candidates for pulmonary fibrosis. These results provided useful information and new insights regarding pulmonary fibrosis.

Abstract
This study aimed to design arterial ischemic and venous congested areas on the same multi-territory perforator flap, assessing the effects of arterial blood supply and venous return on flap survival. Totally 68 rats were randomly divided into the experimental (Exp) and control (Con) groups. In the Exp group, flaps were based on left superficial epigastric artery and right superficial epigastric vein. In the Con group, flaps were based on the left superficial epigastric artery and vein. Immediate postoperative ink-gelatin angiography, epidermal metabolite levels detection, tissue edema measurement, survival rate evaluation in half of the flaps and average microvessel density assessment were performed. Blood in the Exp group flowed through most angiosomes, but only flowed around pedicled vessels in the Con group; metabolite levels of left halves in the Con and Exp groups were comparable with those of right halves. Angiosomes with high water contents occurred in the Exp group. Survival rates of left halves in the Con and Exp groups were higher than those of right halves, and more microvessels were found in the left ventral areas of both groups compared with the right ventral area in the Exp group. These findings revealed that on the same multi-territory perforator flap, arterial blood supply, affected by venous return, is a prerequisite for flap survival.

Abstract
This paper presents the design of an ultra-low energy neural network that uses time-mode signal processing). Handwritten digit classification using a single-layer artificial neural network (ANN) with a Softmin-based activation function is described as an implementation example. To realize time-mode operation, the presented design makes use of monostable multivibrator-based multiplying analogue-to-time converters, fixed-width pulse generators and basic digital gates. The time-mode digit classification ANN was designed in a standard CMOS 0.18 μm IC process and operates from a supply voltage of 0.6 V. The system operates on the MNIST database of handwritten digits with quantized neuron weights and has a classification accuracy of 88%, which is typical for single-layer ANNs, while dissipating 65.74 pJ per classification with a speed of 2.37 k classifications per second. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the protective effect of excretory-secretory protein (AES) from adult Trichinella spiralis on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic rhinitis in mice. METHODS Eighteen female BALB/c mice were randomly divided into three groups, including the blank control group (Group A), OVA-induced rhinitis group (Group B) and AES treatment group (Group C). Mice in Group A were given PBS. Mice in Group B were intraperitoneally injected with antigen adjuvant suspension for systemic sensitization, once every other day for seven times; then, local excitation was intranasally induced with 5% OVA solution once a day for seven times to establish a mouse model of allergic rhinitis. In addition to induction of allergic rhinitis, mice in Group C were given 25 μg AES at baseline sensitization and local excitation. Following the final challenge, mice were observed for 30 min in each group, and the behavioral score was evaluated. The serum levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-5, IL-10 and TGF-β were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in mice, and the pathological changes of mouse nasal mucosa were observed under a microscope. RESULTS There was a significant difference in the mouse behavioral scores among the three groups (F = 110.12, P < 0.01). The mouse behavioral score was significantly higher in Group B than in Group A (7.17 ± 0.75 vs. 1.33 ± 0.52, P < 0.01), and more remarkable pathological damages of mouse nasal mucosa were seen in Group B than in Group A, while the mouse behavioral score was significantly decreased in Group C than in Group B (P < 0.01), and the pathological damages of mouse nasal mucosa remarkably alleviated in Group C relative to Group B. There was a significant difference in serum IFN-γ level among the three groups (F = 7.50, P < 0.01) and the serum IFN-γ level in Group B was significantly lower than in group A and C (both P < 0.05). There were significant differences in serum IL-4 (F = 470.81, P < 0.01) and IL-5 levels (F =68.20, P < 0.01) among the three groups, and significantly greater serum IL-4 and IL-5 levels were detected in Group B than in Group A (P < 0.01), while significantly lower serum IL-4 and IL-5 levels were detected in Group C than in Group B (P < 0.01). There were significant differences in serum IL-10 (F = 174.91, P < 0.01) and TGF-β levels (F = 9.39, P < 0.01) among the three groups, and significantly greater serum IL-10 and TGF-β levels were seen in Group C than in Group B (both P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS T. spiralis AES has a remarkable protective activity against OVA-induced allergic rhinitis in mice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To dissect the functioning mode of miR-200c on cervical cancer cell metastasis and growth and provide therapeutic targets for cervical cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS By quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction, the miR-200c expression level in 42 pairs of cervical cancer tissue samples and six cervical cancer-derived cell lines were examined. Using miR-200c mimics, we analyzed the effects of miR-200c over-expression on cell proliferation, invasion, and migration. Dual-luciferase activity assay was recruited to examine the potential target gene MAP4K4 that predicted by several databases. Protein level was studied using Western blot. RESULTS miR-200c expressed significantly lower in cervical cancer tissue samples and cell lines. And over-expression of miR-200c in cervical cancer cells significantly decreased the cell invasion, migration and proliferation abilities. Dual-luciferase and Western blot confirmed MAP4K4 as a target gene of miR-200c. Furthermore, up-regulation of MAP4K4 counteracted the suppressive effect of miR-200c over-expression on cell growth and metastasis. CONCLUSIONS miR-200c could suppress cervical cancer cell proliferation and progression via regulating MAP4K4, which might provide a new target for cervical cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction
The association of diabetes and vein graft patency after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) remains controversial. In patients with diabetes, impaired endothelial function in vein grafts and high platelet turnover might result in early vein graft failure. The DACAB trial showed ticagrelor plus aspirin significantly increased 1-year vein graft patency vs. aspirin alone, while no significant difference between ticagrelor alone and aspirin alone. However, whether the results is different between the patients with or without diabetes is unknown.
Purpose
To assess the effects of ticagrelor with or without aspirin vs. aspirin alone on 1-year vein grafts patency after CABG in patients with or without diabetes.
Methods
We examined the subgroups of patients with and without diabetes from DACAB trial (NCT02201771), in which 500 patients were randomized to 1 of 3 antiplatelet regimens (ticagrelor 90mg twice daily plus aspirin 100mg once daily, T+A group; ticagrelor 90mg twice daily, T group; or aspirin 100mg once daily, A group) within 24 hours post-CABG. The primary outcome was 1-year vein graft patency (FitzGibbon grade A) assessed by multi-slice computed tomographic angiography or coronary angiography.
Results
According to the baseline medical history and/or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) ≥6.5%, 283 patients with 818 vein grafts were allocated to the non-diabetes subgroup, remaining 217 patients with 642 vein grafts to the diabetes subgroup. By per-graft analysis, no significant difference on 1-year vein graft patency rate was observed between non-diabetes and diabetes subgroup (84.6% [692/881] for non-diabetes vs. 80.2% [515/642] for diabetes, adjusted odds ratio (OR) =1.39, 95% CI: 0.92–2.09, P=0.116). In T+A group, 1-year vein graft patency rates were 91.0% (244/268) for non-diabetes vs. 85.8% (188/219) for diabetes; In T group, 85.0% (221/260) for non-diabetes vs. 80.3% (183/228) for diabetes; In A group, 78.3% (227/290) for non-diabetes vs. 73.9% (144/195) for diabetes. Ticagrelor plus aspirin showed higher vein graft patency rate than aspirin alone in both non-diabetes and diabetes subgroup (non-diabetes: adjusted OR = 0.34, 95% CI: 0.17–0.69, and diabetes: adjusted OR = 0.42, 95% CI: 0.19–0.91, P for interaction = 0.524), whereas ticagrelor alone did not show improvement on vein graft patency compared with aspirin alone in both subgroups (non-diabetes: adjusted OR=0.62, 95% CI: 0.32–1.20, and diabetes: adjusted OR = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.33–1.31, P for interaction = 0.795). Similar results were showed by per-patient analysis. A total 16 major adverse cardiovascular events occurred, 8 (2.8%) for non-diabetes and 8 (3.7%) for diabetes.
Conclusion
In the DACAB trial, diabetes was not found to be associated with decreased vein graft patency at 1 year after CABG. The effect of ticagrelor plus aspirin on improvement of 1-year vein graft patency, when compared with aspirin alone, is consistent in patients with or without diabetes.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical effects and key techniques of expanded super-thin perforator flaps in the shoulder, neck, and chest in reconstruction of extensive burn scars in the face. Methods: From January 2008 to November 2018, 22 patients with extensive burn scars in the face were admitted to the Department of Plastic Surgery of Dongguan Kanghua Hospital and the Department of Plastic Surgery of Dermatology Hospital of Southern Medical University, with 3 males and 19 females, aged from 4 to 48 years. There were 16 cases of type Ⅱ and 6 cases of type Ⅲ in facial scars. Before the first stage of expansion surgery, Doppler blood flow survey meter or multi-slice CT was used to locate the perforator vessels. One to four expanders with rated capacity ranged from 100 to 600 mL were placed in the patients. We gave 20% to 30% of the rated capacity of expander intro-operation and common injection with 10% to 15% of the rated capacity of expander per week post-operation until the volume reached 1.5 to 2.5 times of the rated capacity of expander during the past 3 to 4 months. At the second stage of surgery, the perforators were located again before surgery with the same method. The size of defects after the excision of facial scars ranged from 6 cm×4 cm to 18 cm×16 cm. With perforators used as nutrient vessels, narrow pedicle flaps or random flaps ranging from 6 cm×6 cm to 22 cm×18 cm were elevated as rotating or advancing to reconstruct the defects. The donor sites were sutured directly. Some of the flaps needed stage Ⅲ operation for cutting the pedicle. The survival of flaps, post-operation complications, and follow-up were assessed. Results: All flaps of 22 patients survived. All the donor sites were closed simultaneously. One patient underwent an additional surgery for 5 cm×4 cm necrosis on distal part of flap caused by subcutaneous hematoma. Two patients with epidermis blister on the flaps were healed by themselves after dressing change. Due to rapid expansion, blood capillary proliferation appeared on the central part of the flap in 3 cases, after slowing down the expansion speed properly, which had no impact on flap transfer. No ischemia or venous congestion phenomenon were observed in the other flaps. During follow-up of 5 to 48 months, the flaps of patients showed no significant bloated appearance, with good complexion and texture, and even could reproduce facial fine-grained expressions naturally. Conclusions: For the reconstruction of extensive burn scars in the face, expanded super-thin perforator flaps can not only acquire large and thin flaps with high matching degree surface skin defect, but also reproduce facial fine-grained expressions. It is a simple and safe method which conforms to the facial aesthetic standard.

Abstract
Qingming Shanghe Tu(Along the River During the Qingming Festival) is a traditional Chinese painting created by Zhang Zeduan, a Northern Song Dynasty painter. The painting, which showed us the daily life of citizens in Northern Song's Bianjing(capital of the country), had an important value for studying the society and folkways of the Northern Song Dynasty.Therefore, many articles and books refer to the signboard with words "specialized in the bone-setting" as an evidence to prove the existence of orthopaedic clinics in Northern Song Dynasty.Through textual research, we found signboard with words "specialized in the bone-setting" did not exist in the Qingming Shanghe Tu, but in one of its facsimile titled "Qing Court Version" . The "Qing Court Version" depicted the daily life and culture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In conclusion: the previous inference that the orthopaedic therapy was widely applicated among the people of Northern Song Dynasty is inaccurate.

Mutation of the rice TCM12 gene encoding 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate-independent phosphoglycerate mutase affects chlorophyll synthesis, photosynthesis and chloroplast development at seedling stage at low temperatures. Abstract
Glycolysis is a central metabolic pathway that provides energy and products of primary metabolites. 2,3-Biphosphoglycerate-independent phosphoglycerate mutase (iPGAM) is a key enzyme that catalyses the reversible interconversion of 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PGA) to 2-phosphoglycerate (2-PGA) in glycolysis. Low temperature is a common abiotic stress in rice production. However, the mechanism for rice iPGAM genes is not fully understood at low temperature. In this study, the rice mutant tcm12, with chlorosis, malformed chloroplasts and impaired photosynthesis, was grown at a low temperature (<20 °C) to the three-leaf stage, while the normal phenotype at 32 °C was used. Chlorophyll fluorescence analysis and transmission electron microscopy were used to examine features of the tcm12 mutant. The inheritance behaviour and function of TCM12 were then analysed thorough map-based cloning, transgenic complementation and subcellular localisation. The thermo-sensitive chlorosis phenotype was caused by a single nucleotide mutation (T→C) on the fifth exon of TCM12 (LOC_Os12g35040) encoding iPGAM, localised to both nucleus and membranes. In addition, TCM12 was constitutively expressed, and its disruption resulted in down-regulation of some genes associated with chlorophyll biosynthesis and photosynthesis at low temperatures (20 °C). This is the first report of the involvement of rice iPGAM gene in chlorophyll synthesis, photosynthesis and chloroplast development, providing new insights into the mechanisms underlying early growth of rice at low temperatures.

Abstract
Overexpression of Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is associated with progression of several cancers. The expression of Shh in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been reported with inconsistent results. Lung adenocarcinoma (LAC) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) are two major subtypes of NSCLC, which have different genetic genotypes and clinical therapeutic options. The expression of Shh in specimen of patients with NSCLC has yet to be comprehensively determined according to histological subtypes. Shh expression level was determined in 167 NSCLC patients (56 LAC patients and 111 LSCC patients) by immunohistochemical assay (IHC) and disease-free survival and overall survival of patients were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Shh protein level in pleural effusion from patients with pneumonia or pleural empyema, tuberculosis, LAC and LSCC was measured with enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). We found that Shh expression is increased in tumor tissues from both LAC and LSCC patients compared with the paired adjacent tissues, while Shh level is negatively correlated with tumor differentiation only in LSCC, LSCC patients containing higher-Shh expression have a poorer prognosis. Furthermore, Shh level is elevated in pleural effusion from LSCC patients compared with that of parapneumonic and LAC pleural effusion. Shh expression in tumor tissues or pleural effusion may represent a potential diagnostic and prognostic marker of LSCC patients, pleural effusion Shh may assist to distinguish between LAC and LSCC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to determine the correlation between serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), the free human chorionic gonadotropin beta subunit (free beta-HCG) in pregnant women during the mid-trimester, and fetal hypospadias, and tried to establish a risk prediction model. METHODS A multi-center case-control study was conducted. We divided the fetuses into two groups (69 with fetal hypospadias and 62 without fetal hypospadias). Time-resolved immunofluorescence was used to determine the serum levels of AFP and free beta-HCG. The best cut -value and area under curve (AUC) were determined based on the Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, and the diagnostic value of AFP and free beta-HCG was evaluated. RESULTS The level of AFP in the study group was 1.14 multiple of Median(MOM), which was higher than in the control group (0.96 MOM); the difference was significant (Z = 2.831, P = .005). Similarly, the free beta-HCG level was 1.30 MOM in the study group, and was also significantly higher than in the control group (0.84 MOM; Z = 3.131, P = .004). We used the AFP and free beta-HCG levels separately to predict fetuses with hypospadias, and the AUCs were 0.644 (95% Confidence interval (CI): 0.5500.737, P = .005) and 0.659 (95% CI: 0.5650.752, P = .002), respectively. According to the ROC curve, the best cut-off values for AFP and free beta-HCG were 0.945 MOM and 1.275 MOM, respectively. When we combined the AFP level with the free beta-HCG level, the AUC was 0.700 (95% CI: 0.610-0.789, P < .001), with a sensitivity of 0.551 and a specificity of 0.855. CONCLUSION Combined screening for fetal hypospadias with maternal serum AFP and free beta-HCG levels during the early second trimester has high sensitivity and specificity, which can be used as a new marker.

Abstract
We report the first observation of the parity-violating gamma-ray asymmetry A_{γ}^{np} in neutron-proton capture using polarized cold neutrons incident on a liquid parahydrogen target at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. A_{γ}^{np} isolates the ΔI=1, ^{3}S_{1}→^{3}P_{1} component of the weak nucleon-nucleon interaction, which is dominated by pion exchange and can be directly related to a single coupling constant in either the DDH meson exchange model or pionless effective field theory. We measured A_{γ}^{np}=[-3.0±1.4(stat)±0.2(syst)]×10^{-8}, which implies a DDH weak πNN coupling of h_{π}^{1}=[2.6±1.2(stat)±0.2(syst)]×10^{-7} and a pionless EFT constant of C^{^{3}S_{1}→^{3}P_{1}}/C_{0}=[-7.4±3.5(stat)±0.5(syst)]×10^{-11} MeV^{-1}. We describe the experiment, data analysis, systematic uncertainties, and implications of the result.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop a novel approach to treat bone osteosarcoma using a multipurpose scaffold aiming for local drug delivery. The slowly releasing microspheres was designed to deliver the chemotherapy drug adriamycin (ADM) and a decellularized (D) periosteum scaffold (which is known to be able to promote bone regeneration) was used to carry these microspheres. D-periosteum was obtained by physical and chemical decellularization. Histological results showed that the cellular components were effectively removed. The D-periosteum showed an excellent cytocompatibility and the ability to promote adhesion and growth of fibroblasts. Two kinds of slowly releasing microspheres, adriamycin gelatin microspheres (ADM-GMS) and adriamycin poly (dl-lactide-co-glycolide) gelatin microspheres (ADM-PLGA-GMS), were prepared and anchored to D-periosteum, resulting in two types of drug-releasing regenerative scaffolds. The effectiveness of these two scaffolds in killing human osteosarcoma cells was tested by evaluating cell viability overtime of the cancer cells cultured with the scaffolds. In summary, a gelatin/decellularized periosteum-based biologic scaffold material was designed aiming for local delivery of chemotherapy drugs for osteosarcoma, with the results showing ability of the scaffolds in sustaining release of the cancer drug and in suppressing growth of the cancer cells in vitro.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE PTEN can suppress PI3K/AKT activity, and regulate cell proliferation, apoptosis, and drug resistance. The previous study showed that up-regulation of miR-29a played an essential role in the occurrence of colorectal carcinoma. This study aimed to investigate the role and related mechanism of miR-29a in mediating Paclitaxel sensitivity of colorectal carcinoma cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS Bioinformatics analysis was performed to study the existence of binding sites between miR-29a and targeting gene mRNA. Dual luciferase reporter assay was conducted to validate the targeted regulation. The expressions were compared between CCD841 CoN cells, colorectal carcinoma cell line SW480, and drug-resistant cell line SW480/Paclitaxel. Cell apoptosis and proliferation were measured by flow cytometry. In vitro cultured SW480/Paclitaxel cells were transfected with miR-29a or pcDNA3.1-PTEN. MiR-29a and PTEN expressions were measured by quantitative Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot, followed by flow cytometry on the detection of cell apoptosis as well as proliferation assay. RESULTS A targeted regulatory relationship existed between miR-29a and PTEN. Comparing to CCD841 CoN cells, high level of miR-29a and decreasing expression of PTEN were found in SW480 cells. Moreover, further higher miR-29a and lower PTEN expressions were observed in SW480/Paclitaxel cells. Paclitaxel remarkably inhibited proliferation and facilitated apoptosis of SW480 cells but not SW480/Paclitaxel cells. Transfection of miR-29a inhibitor or pcDNA3.1-PTEN remarkably elevated PTEN expression, suppressed p-AKT expression, weakened proliferation, and enhanced apoptosis of SW480/Paclitaxel cells. CONCLUSIONS Our data demonstrated that suppression of miR-29a enhanced PTEN expression, inhibited cancer cell proliferation, facilitated apoptosis, and weakened drug resistance, which provides academic basis for the treatment of colorectal cancer.
