Abstract
With the development of testing technology, the diagnosis of nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) lung disease has gradually increased in recent years. Because the clinical characteristics of NTM are not typical, and its imaging manifestations are diverse and nonspecific, missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis are common. Etiological investigation is necessary for diagnosis. Conventional etiological investigations are very limited for the diagnosis of NTM. We reported a case of NTM lung disease presenting with a mass and atelectasis with mediastinal and hilar lymph node enlargement that resembled malignant tumors. The literature on this condition was reviewed to improve the clinician's understanding and broaden clinical thinking.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D (VD) possesses immunomodulatory properties, but its role in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) remains poorly studied. Herein, we aim to explore the regulation and function of VD3 in CRSwNP. METHODS 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25VD3) levels in serum and tissue lysates were detected by ELISA. The expression of VD receptor (VDR) and cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily B member 1 (CYP27B1), the enzyme that converts 25VD3 to the active 1,25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25VD3), and their expression regulation in human nasal epithelial cells (HNECs) were studied by RT-PCR, western blotting, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry. RNA sequencing was performed to identify genes regulated by 1,25VD3 in HNECs. HNECs and polyp tissue explants were treated with 1,25VD3, 25VD3, and dexamethasone. RESULTS 25VD3 levels in serum and nasal tissue lysates were decreased in patients with eosinophilic and noneosinophilic CRSwNP than control subjects. The expression of VDR and CYP27B1 were reduced in eosinophilic and noneosinophilic CRSwNP, particularly in nasal epithelial cells. VDR and CYP27B1 expression in HNECs were downregulated by interferon y and poly (I:C). Polyp-derived epithelial cells demonstrated an impaired ability to convert 25VD3 to 1,25VD3 than control tissues. 1,25VD3 and 25VD3 suppressed IL-36y production in HNECs and polyp tissues, and the effect of 25VD3 was abolished by siCYP27B1 treatment. Tissue 25VD3 levels negatively correlated with IL-36y expression and neutrophilic inflammation in CRSwNP. CONCLUSION Reduced systemic 25VD3 level, local 1,25VD3 generation and VDR expression result in impaired VD3 signaling activation in nasal epithelial cells, thereby exaggerating IL-36y production and neutrophilic inflammation in CRSwNP.

Abstract
Chronic dysregulation of peripheral lipids has been found to be associated with depression and cognition, but their interaction has not been investigated. Growing evidence has highlighted the association between peripheral lipoprotein levels with depression and cognition with inconsistent results. We assessed the association between peripheral lipids, depression, and cognition while evaluating their potential interactions using robust clinically relevant predictors such as lipoprotein levels and chronic medical disorders that dysregulate lipoproteins. We report an association between peripheral lipids, depression, and cognition, suggesting a common underlying biological mechanism driven by lipid dysregulation in two independent studies. Analysis of a longitudinal study of a cohort at high or low familial risk for major depressive disorder (MDD) (n = 526) found metabolic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, and other cardiovascular diseases, were associated with MDD and cognitive outcomes. Investigating a cross-sectional population survey of adults in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2014 (NHANES) (n = 2377), depression was found to be associated with high density lipoprotein (HDL) and cognitive assessments. In the familial risk study, medical conditions were found to be associated with chronic lipid dysregulation and were significantly associated with MDD using the structural equation model. A positive association between chronic lipid dysregulation and cognitive scores was found in an exploratory analysis of the familial risk study. In a complementary study, analysis of NHANES revealed a positive association of HDL levels with cognition. Further analysis of the NHANES cohort indicated that depression status mediated the interaction between HDL levels and cognitive tests. Importantly, the protective effect of HDL on cognition was absent in those with depressive symptoms, which may ultimately result in worse outcomes leading to cognitive decline. These findings highlight the potential for the early predictive value of medical conditions with chronic lipid dyshomeostasis for the risk of depression and cognitive decline.

Abstract
The infant sleep-wake behavior is an essential indicator of physiological and neurological system maturity, the circadian transition of which is important for evaluating the recovery of preterm infants from inadequate physiological function and cognitive disorders. Recently, camera-based infant sleep-wake monitoring has been investigated, but the challenges of generalization caused by variance in infants and clinical environments are not addressed for this application. In this paper, we conducted a multi-center clinical trial at four hospitals to improve the generalization of camera-based infant sleep-wake monitoring. Using the face videos of 64 term and 39 preterm infants recorded in NICUs, we proposed a novel sleep-wake classification strategy, called consistent deep representation constraint (CDRC), that forces the convolutional neural network (CNN) to make consistent predictions for the samples from different conditions but with the same label, to address the variances caused by infants and environments. The clinical validation shows that by using CDRC, all CNN backbones obtain over 85% accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in both the cross-age and cross-environment experiments, improving the ones without CDRC by almost 15% in all metrics. This demonstrates that by improving the consistency of the deep representation of samples with the same state, we can significantly improve the generalization of infant sleep-wake classification. Abstract
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease which can impact pregnancy. We describe a transient neonatal myasthenia gravis (TNMG) born to an asymptomatic mother aged 26. The newborn presented cyanosis and generalized muscular weakness quickly after birth. Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) ventilation was performed immediately. On day 3, detailed family history showed that the neonate's 50-year-old maternal grandmother was diagnosed as ocular MG at the age of 40. Ryanodine receptor calcium release channel antibody (RyR-Ab) and acetylcholine receptor antibody (AChR-Ab) tested on day 5 were positive. However, neostigmine tests were negative for the neonate. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and oral pyridostigmine were administered. The infant was weaned from the ventilator on day 7. On day 10, the neonate's asymptomatic mother was confirmed to have positive AChR-Ab either. The neonate regained the capability of bottle feeding on day 17 and discharged on day 26. Asymptomatic pregnant women with MG family history can also deliver infants who develop TNMG. Testing AChR antibodies in pregnant women with a family history of MG should be necessary as TNMG was a life-threatening disease. With timely diagnosis and accurate treatment, TNMG can be effectively relieved.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Economic theory predicts that the excise tax structure influences the distribution of cigarette prices. Evidence shows that uniform specific excise tax structures exhibit the least price variability relative to other tax structures. The distribution of cigarette prices under different excise tax structures has never been examined for a group of African countries. OBJECTIVES To examine the distribution of cigarette prices under different tax structures in nine African countries and to critically evaluate the effectiveness of African regional tax directives in promoting public health. METHODS Data from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey, conducted in eight African countries during 2012-2018, and data from the 2017 Gambia Tobacco Survey were used to construct survey-derived cigarette prices. The coefficients of variation and skewness of the price distribution were compared in the context of each country's cigarette excise tax structure. RESULTS The least price variability is found in countries with a uniform specific tax, or a mixed system with a minimum specific floor. Cigarette price variability is largest in countries with uniform ad valorem tax structures. Three of the four countries with ad valorem tax structures are in regional blocs, where the tax directives specify that they should implement an ad valorem structure. CONCLUSIONS Regional tax directives that require the adoption of uniform specific excise taxes, or high minimum specific floors, could be an efficient way to get multiple African countries to adopt a tax structure that reduces substitution possibilities in response to excise tax increases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary syphilis is characterized by painless ulcerative lesions in the genitalia, the aetiology of painless remains elusive. OBJECTIVES To investigate the role of Treponema pallidum in painless ulcer of primary syphilis, and the mechanisms underlying painless ulcers caused by T. pallidum. METHODS An experimental rabbit model of primary syphilis was established to investigate its effects on peripheral nerve tissues. Human skin fibroblasts were used to examine the role of T. pallidum in modulating neurotransmitters associated with pain and to explore the signalling pathways related to neurotransmitter secretion by T. pallidum in vitro. RESULTS Treponema pallidum infection did not directly lead to neuronal damage or interfere with the neuronal resting potential. Instead, it facilitated the secretion of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) through endoplasmic reticulum stress in both rabbit and human skin fibroblasts, and upregulation of PGE2 induced the hyperpolarization of neurones. Moreover, the IRE1α/COX-2 signalling pathway was identified as the underlying mechanism by which T. pallidum induced the production of PGE2 in human skin fibroblasts. CONCLUSION Treponema pallidum promotes PGE2 secretion in skin fibroblasts, leading to the excitation of neuronal hyperpolarization and potentially contributing to the pathogenesis of painless ulcers in syphilis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infectious diseases are a serious threat to human especially since the COVID-19 outbreak has proved the importance and urgency of their diagnosis and treatment again. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has been widely used and recognized in clinical and carried out localized testing in hospitals. Increasing the training of mNGS detection technicians can enhance their professional quality and more effectively realize the application value of the hospital platform. METHODS Based on the initial theoretical understanding and practice of the mNGS platform for localization construction, we have designed a training program to enhance the ability of technicians to detect pathogens by utilizing mNGS, and hence to conduct training practices nationwide. RESULTS Until August 30, 2022, the page views of online classes have reached 51,500 times and 6 of offline small-scale training courses have been conducted. A total of 67 trainees from 67 hospitals have participated in the training with a qualified rate of 100%. After the training course, the localization platform of 1 participating hospital has been put into use, 2 have added the mNGS localization platform for admission, among which 3 have expressed strong intention of localization. CONCLUSIONS This study focuses on the training procedures and practical experience of the project which is the first systematic standardized program of mNGS in the world. It solves the training difficulties in the current industry, and effectively promotes the localization construction and application of mNGS in hospitals. It has great development potential in the future and is worth further promotion.

Abstract
Introduction Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis still faces challenges with high proportion of bacteriologic test negative incidences worldwide. We assessed the diagnostic value of digital PCR (dPCR) analysis of ultramicro Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) nucleic acid in CT-guided percutaneous biopsy needle rinse solution (BNRS) for TB. Methods BNRS specimens were consecutively collected and total DNA was purified. The concentrations of M.tb-specific IS6110 and IS1081 were quantified using droplet dPCR. The diagnostic performances of BNRS-dPCR and its sensitivity in comparison with conventional tests were analyzed. Results A total of 106 patients were enrolled, 63 of whom were TB (48 definite and 15 clinically suspected TB) and 43 were non-TB. The sensitivity of BNRS IS6110 OR IS1081-dPCR for total, confirmed and clinically suspected TB was 66.7%, 68.8% and 60.0%, respectively, with a specificity of 97.7%. Its sensitivity was higher than that of conventional etiological tests, including smear microscopy, mycobacterial culture and Xpert using sputum and BALF samples. The positive detection rate in TB patients increased from 39.3% for biopsy AFB test alone to 73.2% when combined with BNRS-dPCR, and from 71.4% for biopsy M.tb molecular detection alone to 85.7% when combined with BNRS-dPCR. Conclusion Our results preliminarily indicated that BNRS IS6110 OR IS1081-dPCR is a feasible etiological test, which has the potential to be used as a supplementary method to augment the diagnostic yield of biopsy and improve TB diagnosis.

Abstract
Background Tuberculosis (TB) is a significant public health concern, particularly in China. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) can provide abundant pathological information regarding etiology and could include candidate biomarkers for diagnosis of TB. However, data regarding lncRNA expression profiles and specific lncRNAs associated with TB are limited. Methods We performed ceRNA-microarray analysis to determine the expression profile of lncRNAs in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was then conducted to identify the critical module and genes associated with TB. Other bioinformatics analyses, including Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Gene Ontology (GO), and co-expression networks, were conducted to explore the function of the critical module. Finally, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to validate the candidate biomarkers, and receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to assess the diagnostic performance of the candidate biomarkers. Results Based on 8 TB patients and 9 healthy controls (HCs), a total of 1,372 differentially expressed lncRNAs were identified, including 738 upregulated lncRNAs and 634 downregulated lncRNAs. Among all lncRNAs and mRNAs in the microarray, the top 25% lncRNAs (3729) and top 25% mRNAs (2824), which exhibited higher median expression values, were incorporated into the WGCNA. The analysis generated 16 co-expression modules, among which the blue module was highly correlated with TB. GO and KEGG analyses showed that the blue module was significantly enriched in infection and immunity. Subsequently, considering module membership values (>0.85), gene significance values (>0.90) and fold-change value (>2 or < 0.5) as selection criteria, the top 10 upregulated lncRNAs and top 10 downregulated lncRNAs in the blue module were considered as potential biomarkers. The candidates were then validated in an independent validation sample set (31 TB patients and 32 HCs). The expression levels of 8 candidates differed significantly between TB patients and HCs. The lncRNAs ABHD17B (area under the curve [AUC] = 1.000) and ENST00000607464.1 (AUC = 1.000) were the best lncRNAs in distinguishing TB patients from HCs. Conclusion This study characterized the lncRNA profiles of TB patients and identified a significant module associated with TB as well as novel potential biomarkers for TB diagnosis.

Abstract
AIM To explore the value of multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics combined with traditional radiologist-defined semantic characteristics and conventional (cMRI) and functional MRI (fMRI) texture features in predicting Fuhrman grade of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS The data of 89 patients with histopathologically proven ccRCC (low-grade, 54; high-grade, 35) were collected. Texture features were extracted from cMRI (T1- and T2-weighted imaging) and fMRI (Dixon-MRI; blood-oxygen-level dependent [BOLD]-MRI; and susceptibility-weighted imaging [SWI]) images, and the traditional characteristics (TC) were evaluated. Logistic regression analysis was performed to develop models based on TC, cMRI, and fMRI texture features for grading. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and leave-group-out cross-validation (LGOCV) were performed to test the reliability of combined models. RESULTS Two T2-weighted imaging-based, two Dixon_W-based, one Dixon_F-based, one BOLD-based, and three SWI-based texture features, and three TC were extracted for feature selection. TC, cMRI, fMRI, cMRI+fMRI, cMRI+TC, fMRI+TC, and cMRI+fMRI+TC models were constructed. The AUC of the cMRI+fMRI+TC model for differentiating high- from low-grade ccRCC was 0.74, with 81.42% accuracy, 75.93% sensitivity, and 91.43% specificity. The fMRI+TC model exhibited a performance similar to that of the cMRI+fMRI+TC model (p>0.05). The areas under the curve (AUCs) of the fMRI+TC and cMRI+fMRI+TC models were significantly higher than those of the other five models (all p<0.05). For the cMRI+fMRI+TC model, the mean accuracy was 85.40% after 100 LGOCV for the test sets. CONCLUSION Multimodal MRI radiomics combined with TC, cMRI, and fMRI texture features may be a reliable quantitative approach for differentiating high-grade ccRCC from low-grade ccRCC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to reveal the single and mixed associations of PM2.5 and its components with very, moderately, and late preterm births and to explore the potential mediating role of pregnancy complications in PM2.5-induced preterm birth. STUDY DESIGN This was a retrospective cohort study. METHODS We enrolled 168,852 mothers and matched the concentrations of PM2.5 and its five components (OM, SO42-, BC, NO3-, and NH4+) based on their geographical location. Next, we used generalized linear models, quantile g-computation, and mediation analysis to evaluate the associations of PM2.5 and its components with very, moderately, and late preterm births and the mediating role of pregnancy complications. RESULTS Prenatal exposure to PM2.5 and its components was associated with preterm birth, and the association was strongest in the third trimester. Preterm birth was associated with co-exposure to a mixture of PM2.5 components in the third trimester, and the contributions of NO3-, NH4+, and BC to the risk of preterm birth were positive. Meanwhile, pregnancy complications mediated PM2.5-induced preterm birth. Moreover, very and moderately preterm births were associated with PM2.5 and its components in the second and third trimesters, and very and late preterm births were associated with co-exposure to a mixture of PM2.5 components in the third trimester. CONCLUSIONS Later exposure to PM2.5 during pregnancy will cause earlier preterm birth. Targeted and positive interventions for anthropogenic sources of specific PM2.5 components and pregnancy complications are helpful for preterm birth prevention.

Abstract
AIMS This study investigated the impact of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on working memory (WM) in refractory temporal lobe epilepsy (rTLE) and the underlying mechanisms. METHODS In this randomized double-blind study, 28 rTLE patients were subjected to an active or sham taVNS (a/s-taVNS) protocol for 20 weeks (a-taVNS group, n = 19; s-ta VNS group, n = 9). Patients performed visual WM tasks during stimulation and neural oscillations were simultaneously recorded by 19-channel electroencephalography. RESULTS Compared with the baseline state, reaction time was significantly shorter after 20 weeks of taVNS in the a-taVNS group (p = 0.010), whereas no difference was observed in the s-taVNS group (p > 0.05). The power spectral density (PSD) of the theta frequency band in the Fz channel decreased significantly after a-taVNS during WM-encoding (p = 0.020), maintenance (p = 0.038), and retrieval (p = 0.039) phases, but not in the s-taVNS group (all p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Neural oscillations during WM were altered by taVNS and WM performance was improved. Alterations in frontal midline theta oscillations may be a marker for the effect of taVNS on cognitive regulation.

Abstract
Due to the limited reliability of traditional self-completed questionnaire, the accuracy of measurement of physical behaviors (physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep) is not high. With the development of technology, wearable devices (e.g. accelerometer) can be used for more accurate measurement of physical behaviors and have great application potential in large-scale research. However, the data of objective measurement of physical behaviors from large-scale cohort research in Asian populations is still limited. Between August 2020 and December 2021, the 3rd resurvey of China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) project used Axivity AX3 wrist triaxial accelerometer to collect the data of participants' daily activity and sleep status. A total of 20 370 participants from 10 study areas were included in the study, in whom 65.2% were women, and the age was (65.4±9.1) years. The participants' physical activity level varied greatly in different study areas. The objective measurement of participants' physical behaviors in CKB project has provided valuable resources for the description of 24-hour patterns of physical behaviors and evaluation of the health effect of physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep as well as their association with diseases in the elderly in China.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The surgical treatment of patients with ankylosing spondylitis and severe thoracolumbar kyphosis combined with hip flexion contracture is very difficult for all the surgeons. The femoral neck osteotomy (FNO) is the first step to break the ice. The evaluation of a new modified FNO method is very important to improve the curative effect. METHODS Five male patients with nine bone-fused hips who underwent the new femoral neck osteotomy were included from October 2021 to March 2022. The FNO was designed that the saw blade was manipulated from the lateral femoral neck base to the inferior part of the femoral head, keeping Pauwels' angle less than 30° on the coronal plane. On the transverse plane, the angle between the saw blade and the coronal plane was more than 15°. On the sagittal plane, the saw blade cut through the femoral neck. They accepted pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) after FNO according to the patient' recovery. Then, 2 weeks later, the patients underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA). The visual analogue scale (VAS), Harris hip score (HHS) and passive hip flexion-extension range of motion (ROM) were used to evaluate hip function. The data were analyzed by paired t-test. RESULTS The average operation time and blood loss of FNO, the average interval between FNO and THA were collected. The average angle of the trunk and lower limb (ATL) was 36.33° ± 16.36° pre-FNO, 82.89° ± 13.51° post-FNO and 175.22° ± 3.42° post-THA. The average VAS scores were 0 pre-FNO, 5 ± 1.58 post-FNO and 2.6 ± 0.55 post-THA. The average HHS was 43.56 ± 1.59 preoperatively and 83.89 ± 2.21 postoperatively. The average hip extension ROM was 23.89° ± 12.69° pre-FNO, -22.67° ± 14.18° post-FNO and - 3.33° ± 2.50 post-THA°. The average hip flexion ROM was 23.89° ± 12.69° pre-FNO, 35.56° ± 12.11° post-FNO and 104.44° ± 5.27° post-THA. The differences among them were significant (p < 0.05). Only one hip (11.11%) displaced completely after FNO. CONCLUSION A new modified FNO was developed, which can provide osteotomy with a certain degree of stability and greater ease for performing PSO and THA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of belimumab treatment in refractory anti-phospholipid antibody-associated immune thrombocytopenia with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHOD Four SLE patients with refractory anti-phospholipid antibody-associated immune thrombocytopenia were included in this one-arm observational study. Inclusion criteria were a diagnosis of SLE according to 1997 American College of Rheumatology criteria, severe immune thrombocytopenia (platelets <30 × 109/L), no bleeding symptoms, lack of satisfactory response to traditional treatment, and high-titre anti-phospholipid antibodies. All patients received belimumab (Benlysta®) for 6 months. RESULTS The mean platelet count was 21.8 × 109 cells/L, ranging between 16 and 29 × 109/L at baseline, 123.3 × 109/L at 1 month, and 172.5 × 109/L at the end of 6 months after belimumab treatment. No bleeding complications occurred during the entire follow-up period. CONCLUSION In this study, belimumab reduced the anti-phospholipid antibodies while increasing the platelet count in SLE patients with anti-phospholipid antibody-associated immune thrombocytopenia.

Abstract
Regular and narrow-band RGB cameras are recently explored for contactless SpO2 monitoring. Regular RGB cameras with cross-band overlap provide a high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) in measuring the photoplethysmographic signals but possess high dependency on the spectra of incident light, whereas narrow-band RGB cameras have better spectral independence but lower SNR especially in dim lighting conditions, such as in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This paper proposes a notch RGB camera based SpO2 measurement approach that uses an optical notch filter to attenuate the wavelengths of 580-605 nm of a regular RGB camera to improve the spectral independence while maintaining high SNR in signal measurement. The proposed setup was validated in the lab condition (e.g. dark chamber) against the existing solutions for visible-light based camera-SpO2 measurement and further verified in the NICU on preterm infants. The clinical trial conducted in the NICU with 22 preterm infants shows that the notch RGB camera can achieve a mean absolute error (MAE) less than 4% for SpO2 measurement. This is the first showcase of continuous monitoring of absolute camera-SpO2 values in the NICU.

Abstract
Electronic cigarette use is growing in popularity and accessibility among youth in the Southeast Asia region. We analyzed data on 6670 students, aged 13-15 years, from the Philippines' 2019 Global Youth Tobacco Survey. Prevalence estimates and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated for current use (i.e., past 30 days), ever use, and awareness of e-cigarettes. Chi-square tests compared prevalence differences between groups. Multiple logistic regression models assessed factors associated with e-cigarette use while controlling for sociodemographic characteristics, current use of other tobacco products, and secondhand smoke exposure. Prevalence of current e-cigarette use was 14.1% (95% CI = 12.4%, 15.8%), ever use was 24.6% (95% CI = 22.4%, 26.9%), and awareness was 75.5% (95% CI = 73.0%, 78.0%). Current use of any other tobacco products and exposure to secondhand smoke at home, school, or other public places were positively associated with current and ever use of e-cigarettes. Boys and youth living in Luzon or Mindanao had higher odds of current e-cigarette use compared to girls and youth in Visayas. Findings indicated that one in four Philippine students aged 13-15 years ever used e-cigarettes and one in seven currently use e-cigarettes. This study highlights the importance of implementing evidence-based strategies, including relevant tobacco control policies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-intrusive imaging of gastrointestinal (GI) tract using computed tomography (CT) contrast agents is of the most significant issues in the diagnosis and treatment of GI diseases. Moreover, spectral CT, which can generate monochromatic images to display the X-ray attenuation characteristics of contrast agents, provides a better imaging sensitivity for diagnose inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) than convention CT imaging. METHODS Herein, a convenient and one-pot synthesis method is provided for the fabrication of small-molecule lanthanide complex Holmium-tetraazacyclododecane-1, 4, 7, 10-tetraacetic acid (Ho-DOTA) as a biosafe and high-performance spectral CT contrast agent for GI imaging with IBD. In vivo CT imaging was administered with both healthy mice and colitis mice induced by dextran sodium sulfate. RESULTS We found that Ho-DOTA accumulated in inflammation sites of large intestines and produced high CT contrast compared with healthy mice. Both in vitro and in vivo experimental results also showed that Ho-DOTA provided much more diagnostic sensitivity and accuracy due to the excellent X-ray attenuation characteristics of Ho-DOTA compared with clinical iodinate agent. Furthermore, the proposed contrast media could be timely excreted from the body via the urinary and digestive system, keeping away from the potential side effects due to long-term retention in vivo. CONCLUSION Accordingly, Ho-DOTA with excellent biocompatibility can be useful as a potential high-performance spectral CT contrast agent for further clinical imaging of gastrointestinal tract and diagnosis of intestinal system diseases.

Abstract
Background Pertrochanteric fracture is one of the most prevalent public health issues across the world for the elderly population. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between surgical factors and postoperative mortality in patients with intramedullary nail-treated pertrochanteric fractures. Methods A retrospective cohort study was designed to evaluate the pertrochanteric fracture patients treated with intramedullary nail between January 2016 to February 2021. The surgical factors included the Dorr morphology, Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen/Orthopedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classification of fractures, the tip-apex distance (TAD), location of the cephalic screw, reduction quality in anterior-posterior (AP) and lateral views, the integrity of the lateral wall, and the design of cephalic screws. Using univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models, the association between these risk factors and postoperative mortality in patients with this type of fractures was evaluated. Results A total of 169 pertrochanteric fracture patients treated with intramedullary nails were included in our study, with the average age of 82.68±5.93 years. The mortality rates at 3 months, 1 year, and the end of follow-up were 4.14%, 11.24%, and 26.04%, respectively. According to the univariate Cox analysis, age, gender, preoperative levels of hemoglobin (Hb) and albumin (Alb) were associated with a poor overall survival (OS) (P<0.05). After multivariate adjustment, the pre-operative level of Alb (P<0.001) and the reduction in lateral view (P<0.001) were shown to be independent risk factors for poor OS. Conclusions The preoperative hypoalbuminemia and reduction quality in lateral view were associated with postoperative mortality in our study. Therefore, optimizing both parameters could improve the prognosis in elderly pertrochanteric fracture patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Preoperative neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) and total rectal mesenteric resection (TME) are the primary treatment options for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), but their efficacy varies. This study aimed to investigate the impact of anemia on the tumor response of patients with LARC receiving preoperative neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. MATERIALS/METHODS This study was a retrospective analysis of clinical and pathological data from patients with LARC who underwent nCRT and TME from January 2019 to May 2022 at a single institution. The tumor response was evaluated based on the tumor regression grade (TRG) and T-stage change of the primary tumor. Hemoglobin concentration was measured and graded to determine the presence of anemia. Anemia was categorized into four groups based on the hemoglobin levels: mild anemia (90-120 g/L), moderate anemia (60-90 g/L), severe anemia (30-60 g/L), and extreme anemia (less than 30 g/L). Finally, tumor response was quantified histologically using the AJCC 8th edition tumor regression grading system for rectal cancer and pre- and post-treatment T-grading. RESULTS A total of 88 patients with LARC who received nCRT and TME were included in the study, with 17 females and 71 males. Of these patients, 9 were moderately anemic and 37 were mildly anemic. The radiation therapy regimen was administered at a dose of 1.8-2 Gy per fraction, five times a week, for a total dose of 45-50.4 Gy. Capecitabine chemotherapy was also administered orally (825 mg/m2, twice a day) on the days of radiation therapy. Other chemotherapy regimens included XELOX and mFOLFOX6. The TRG was significantly different in anemic patients compared to non-anemic patients (P = 0.039). Only 2 out of 46 anemic patients (4%) showed an excellent response (TRG0), while 8 out of 42 non-anemic patients (19%) showed an excellent response (p = 0.043). There was also a significant difference in the incidence of anemia between cT3 and cT4 stages (p = 0.048), with 44% of cT3 patients and 67% of cT4 patients being anemic. The number of patients with poor response (TRG2-3) decreased as the degree of anemia decreased, but no significant difference was found. The incidence of TRG3 was 11% in patients with moderate anemia and 7% in non-anemic patients (P = 0.863). There was no significant difference in postoperative pathological T-stage between anemic and non-anemic patients. 89% of anemic patients had a pathological stage of ypT3 or less after chemoradiotherapy, while 95% of non-anemic patients did (P = 0.167). The pre- and post-treatment pathological staging did not significantly differ between anemic and non-anemic patients. 67% of anemic patients had descending tumors, while 59.5% of non-anemic patients had descending tumors (p = 0.509). CONCLUSION Patients with LARC who have normal hemoglobin concentrations during nCRT have better tumor regression compared to patients with anemia. Additionally, the incidence of anemia was higher among patients with advanced T-stage prior to treatment.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze and compare therapy responses, outcomes, and incidence of severe hematologic adverse events of flumatinib and imatinib in patients newly diagnosed with chronic phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) . Methods: Data of patients with chronic phase CML diagnosed between January 2006 and November 2022 from 76 centers, aged ≥18 years, and received initial flumatinib or imatinib therapy within 6 months after diagnosis in China were retrospectively interrogated. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed to reduce the bias of the initial TKI selection, and the therapy responses and outcomes of patients receiving initial flumatinib or imatinib therapy were compared. Results: A total of 4 833 adult patients with CML receiving initial imatinib (n=4 380) or flumatinib (n=453) therapy were included in the study. In the imatinib cohort, the median follow-up time was 54 [interquartile range (IQR), 31-85] months, and the 7-year cumulative incidences of CCyR, MMR, MR(4), and MR(4.5) were 95.2%, 88.4%, 78.3%, and 63.0%, respectively. The 7-year FFS, PFS, and OS rates were 71.8%, 93.0%, and 96.9%, respectively. With the median follow-up of 18 (IQR, 13-25) months in the flumatinib cohort, the 2-year cumulative incidences of CCyR, MMR, MR(4), and MR(4.5) were 95.4%, 86.5%, 58.4%, and 46.6%, respectively. The 2-year FFS, PFS, and OS rates were 80.1%, 95.0%, and 99.5%, respectively. The PSM analysis indicated that patients receiving initial flumatinib therapy had significantly higher cumulative incidences of CCyR, MMR, MR(4), and MR(4.5) and higher probabilities of FFS than those receiving the initial imatinib therapy (all P<0.001), whereas the PFS (P=0.230) and OS (P=0.268) were comparable between the two cohorts. The incidence of severe hematologic adverse events (grade≥Ⅲ) was comparable in the two cohorts. Conclusion: Patients receiving initial flumatinib therapy had higher cumulative incidences of therapy responses and higher probability of FFS than those receiving initial imatinib therapy, whereas the incidence of severe hematologic adverse events was comparable between the two cohorts.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Most adults who currently use tobacco start before age 21. Comprehensive, cost-effective strategies and interventions to prevent initiation and encourage tobacco use cessation among youth are critical aspects of protecting youth from the harms of commercial tobacco. We describe changes in current tobacco product use among youth in 34 sites using data from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS). METHODS GYTS is a nationally representative school-based survey of students aged 13 to 15 years. The analysis included 34 sites that completed 2 survey waves during 2012-2020. Prevalence of current tobacco use was assessed for each country. Marginal effects in multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate adjusted prevalence difference (aPD) between waves. RESULTS The adjusted prevalence of current tobacco product use remained unchanged in more than 60% of the included sites. For any tobacco use, significant decreases were reported for Bhutan (aPD = -8.1; 95% CI, -12.9 to -3.4), Micronesia (aPD = -7.2; 95% CI, -9.7 to -4.7), San Marino (aPD = -7.0; 95% CI, -11.2 to -2.7), Togo (aPD = -2.7; 95% CI, -4.6 to -0.7), and Panama (aPD = -2.2; 95% CI, -4.1 to -0.4); significant increases were reported for Moldova, Albania, and Paraguay. Current e-cigarette use increased significantly in 7 of 10 sites. CONCLUSION Data show that progress toward reducing tobacco use among youth stalled during 2012-2020, while e-cigarette use increased in a few sites with available data.

Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) is a widespread infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb), which has been a significant burden for a long time. Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are essential for protein function in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. This review focuses on the contribution of protein acetylation to the function of M. tb and its infected macrophages. The acetylation of M. tb proteins plays a critical role in virulence, drug resistance, regulation of metabolism, and host anti-TB immune response. Similarly, the PTMs of host proteins induced by M. tb are crucial for the development, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Host protein acetylation induced by M. tb is significant in regulating host immunity against TB, which substantially affects the disease's development. The review summarizes the functions and mechanisms of M. tb acetyltransferase in virulence and drug resistance. It also discusses the role and mechanism of M. tb in regulating host protein acetylation and immune response regulation. Furthermore, the current scenario of isoniazid usage in M. tb therapy treatment is examined. Overall, this review provides valuable information that can serve as a preliminary basis for studying pathogenic research, developing new drugs, exploring in-depth drug resistance mechanisms, and providing precise treatment for TB.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study examined reasons why people planned to reduce or stop tobacco consumption and their relationship with MPOWER scores, adjusting for sociodemographic, cultural, and economic factors. METHODS Data used were Euromonitor International's Voice of the Consumer: Nicotine Survey 2019-2020, World Bank's country income and WHO's MPOWER policy scores. Analytical sample included 21913 adults of legal smoking age in 21 middle- and high-income countries who used nicotine and tobacco products and planned to reduce or stop their consumption in the next 12 months. Poisson regression models with robust error variance, adjusted for sociodemographic and tobacco use covariables, generated adjusted risk ratios (ARRs) of selecting a certain reason to reduce tobacco consumption dependent on continuous MPOWER scores. RESULTS Main reasons to reduce or stop tobacco consumption were improving health (85%), saving money (65%), pressure from family (19%), and using another substance instead (4%). Country variation was observed by MPOWER scores. Positive associations were found between some MPOWER scores and reasons to reduce or stop tobacco consumption: enforcing bans on tobacco advertising and using another substance (ARR=1.28; 95% CI: 1.11-1.47); warning about dangers of tobacco and saving money (ARR=1.25; 95% CI: 1.19-1.32); offering help to quit tobacco and using another substance (ARR=1.26; 95% CI: 1.10-1.45) or family pressure (ARR=1.11; 95% CI: 1.04-1.17); anti-tobacco campaigns and using another substance (ARR=1.15; 95% CI: 1.08-1.23); and raising taxes and saving money (ARR=1.11; 95% CI: 1.09-1.13). CONCLUSIONS MPOWER scores are associated with reported reasons to quit tobacco including to improve health, save money, respond to family pressure or use another substance instead.

Abstract
Objective: JWH133, a cannabinoid type 2 receptor agonist, was tested for its ability to protect mice from bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Methods: By using a random number generator, 24 C57BL/6J male mice were randomly divided into the control group, model group, JWH133 intervention group, and JWH133+a cannabinoid type-2 receptor antagonist (AM630) inhibitor group, with 6 mice in each group. A mouse pulmonary fibrosis model was established by tracheal instillation of bleomycin (5 mg/kg). Starting from the first day after modeling, the control group mice were intraperitoneally injected with 0.1 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution, and the model group mice were intraperitoneally injected with 0.1 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution. The JWH133 intervention group mice were intraperitoneally injected with 0.1 ml of JWH133 (2.5 mg/kg, dissolved in physiological saline), and the JWH133+AM630 antagonistic group mice were intraperitoneally injected with 0.1 ml of JWH133 (2.5 mg/kg) and AM630 (2.5 mg/kg). After 28 days, all mice were killed; the lung tissue was obtained, pathological changes were observed, and alveolar inflammation scores and Ashcroft scores were calculated. The content of type Ⅰ collagen in the lung tissue of the four groups of mice was measured using immunohistochemistry. The levels of interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) in the serum of the four groups of mice were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the content of hydroxyproline (HYP) in the lung tissue of the four groups of mice was measured. Western blotting was used to measure the protein expression levels of type Ⅲ collagen, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK1/2), phosphorylated P-ERK1/2 (P-ERK1/2), and phosphorylated ribosome S6 kinase type 1 (P-p90RSK) in the lung tissue of mice in the four groups. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to measure the expression levels of collagen Ⅰ, collagen Ⅲ, and α-SMA mRNA in the lung tissue of the four groups of mice. Results: Compared with the control group, the pathological changes in the lung tissue of the model group mice worsened, with an increase in alveolar inflammation score (3.833±0.408 vs. 0.833±0.408, P<0.05), an increase in Ashcroft score (7.333±0.516 vs. 2.000±0.633, P<0.05), an increase in type Ⅰ collagen absorbance value (0.065±0.008 vs. 0.018±0.006, P<0.05), an increase in inflammatory cell infiltration, and an increase in hydroxyproline levels [(1.551±0.051) μg/mg vs. (0.974±0.060) μg/mg, P<0.05]. Compared with the model group, the JWH133 intervention group showed reduced pathological changes in lung tissue, decreased alveolar inflammation score (1.833±0.408, P<0.05), decreased Ashcroft score (4.167±0.753, P<0.05), decreased type Ⅰ collagen absorbance value (0.032±0.004, P<0.05), reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, and decreased hydroxyproline levels [(1.148±0.055) μg/mg, P<0.05]. Compared with the JWH133 intervention group, the JWH133+AM630 antagonistic group showed more severe pathological changes in the lung tissue of mice, increased alveolar inflammation score and Ashcroft score, increased type Ⅰ collagen absorbance value, increased inflammatory cell infiltration, and increased hydroxyproline levels. Compared with the control group, the expression of α-SMA, type Ⅲ collagen, P-ERK1/2, and P-p90RSK proteins in the lung tissue of the model group mice increased, while the expression of type Ⅰ collagen, type Ⅲ collagen, and α-SMA mRNA increased. Compared with the model group, the protein expression of α-SMA (relative expression 0.60±0.17 vs. 1.34±0.19, P<0.05), type Ⅲ collagen (relative expression 0.52±0.09 vs. 1.35±0.14, P<0.05), P-ERK1/2 (relative expression 0.32±0.11 vs. 1.14±0.14, P<0.05), and P-p90RSK (relative expression 0.43±0.14 vs. 1.15±0.07, P<0.05) decreased in the JWH133 intervention group. The type Ⅰ collagen mRNA (2.190±0.362 vs. 5.078±0.792, P<0.05), type Ⅲ collagen mRNA (1.750±0.290 vs. 4.935±0.456, P<0.05), and α-SMA mRNA (1.588±0.060 vs. 5.192±0.506, P<0.05) decreased. Compared with the JWH133 intervention group, the JWH133+AM630 antagonistic group increased the expression of α-SMA, type Ⅲ collagen, P-ERK1/2, and P-p90RSK protein in the lung tissue of mice, and increased the expression of type Ⅲ collagen and α-SMA mRNA. Conclusion: In mice with bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis, the cannabinoid type-2 receptor agonist JWH133 inhibited inflammation and improved extracellular matrix deposition, which alleviated lung fibrosis. The underlying mechanism of action may be related to the activation of the ERK1/2-RSK1 signaling pathway.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the cognition and medication use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China and its associated factors. Method: From August 25 to September 5, 2021, 2 447 MSM were recruited in 24 cities to complete the online questionnaire through a male social interaction platform, Blued 7.5 software. The survey contents included demographic information of the respondents, PrEP awareness and usage, and risk behaviors. Descriptive analysis and multi-level logistic regression were performed for data analysis. SPSS 24.0 and SAS 9.4 software were used for statistical analysis. Results: Among the 2 447 respondents of MSM, 1 712 (69.96%) had heard of PrEP, 437 (17.86%) ever used PrEP, 274 (11.20%) were on PrEP, and 163 (6.66%) had discontinued PrEP; among the 437 cases (whoever used PrEP), more than 61.88% (388/627) adopted emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate regimen, and most of them adopted on-demand regimen. The average PrEP dosage reported in the past year is 1.12 tabletsper person per week. PrEP purchase was primarily via an online channel, and the most concerned factor was the PrEP effectiveness on HIV prevention. The most common reasons for discontinuing PrEP, reported by 163 cases, were the lack of HIV risk perception, the use of a condom to prevent HIV, and the economic burden of PrEP use. The logistic regression analysis showed that PrEP use among MSM in 24 cities was statistically associated with age, monthly income, ever having unprotected anal sex in the past year, used sexual drugs and sexually transmitted disease (STD) diagnosis in the past year. Compared with MSM aged 18-24, the proportion of MSM was relatively lower among those aged 25-44, who discontinued the PrEP (aOR=0.54,95%CI:0.34-0.87) or never used PrEP (aOR=0.62,95%CI:0.44-0.87). The proportion of unprotected anal sex among MSM currently on PrEP use was higher than those who have stopped PrEP and never used PrEP (all P<0.05). Those MSM group, with monthly income higher than 5 000 Yuan, used sexual drugs and STD diagnosis in the past year were more likely to have a higher rate for PrEP usage (all P<0.05). Conclusions: Currently, pre-exposure prophylaxis in the MSM group is primarily obtained via the online channel and adopted in an on-demand mode. Although the PrEP users have reached a certain proportion, it is still necessary to strengthen health education on the PrEP effects and side effects of MSM and to improve the awareness and use rate, especially for young MSM group, which can be combined with the advantages of the internet targeting its needs and use barriers.

Abstract
HIV-infected individuals are susceptible to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) infection and are at high risk of developing active tuberculosis (TB). Interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) are auxiliary tools in the diagnosis of TB. However, the performance of IGRAs in HIV-infected individuals is suboptimal, which limits clinical application. Interferon-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) is an alternative biomarker for identifying M.tb infection due to its high expression after stimulation with M.tb antigens. However, whether IP-10 mRNA constitutes a target for the diagnosis of TB in HIV-infected individuals is unknown. Thus, we prospectively enrolled HIV-infected patients with suspected active TB from five hospitals between May 2021 and May 2022, and performed the IGRA test (QFT-GIT) alongside the IP-10 mRNA release assay on peripheral blood. Of the 216 participants, 152 TB patients and 48 non-TB patients with a conclusive diagnosis were included in the final analysis. The number of indeterminate results of IP-10 mRNA release assay (13/200, 6.5%) was significantly lower than that of the QFT-GIT test (42/200, 21.0%) (P = 0.000026). IP-10 mRNA release assay had a sensitivity of 65.3% (95%CI 55.9% - 73.8%) and a specificity of 74.2% (95%CI 55.4% - 88.1%), respectively; while the QFT-GIT test had a sensitivity of 43.2% (95%CI 34.1% - 52.7%) and a specificity of 87.1% (95%CI 70.2% - 96.4%), respectively. The sensitivity of the IP-10 mRNA release assay was significantly higher than that of QFT-GIT test (P = 0.00062), while no significant difference was detected between the specificities of these two tests (P = 0.198). The IP-10 mRNA release assay showed a lower dependence on CD4+ T cells than that of QFT-GIT test. This was evidenced by the fact that the QFT-GIT test had a higher number of indeterminate results and a lower sensitivity when the CD4+ T cells counts were decreased (P < 0.05), while no significant difference in the number of indeterminate results and sensitivity were observed for the IP-10 mRNA release assay among HIV-infected individuals with varied CD4+T cells counts (P > 0.05). Therefore, our study suggested that M.tb specific IP-10 mRNA is a better biomarker for diagnosis of TB in HIV-infected individuals.

Abstract
Purpose To evaluate the relationship between the postoperative Barthel index assessing activities of daily living at discharge and the one-year mortality after hip fracture surgery. Methods Patients with hip fracture admitted to Peking University First Hospital from January 2015 to January 2020 were enrolled retrospectively according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Barthel index and other related confounding variables were collected. Logistic regression and Kaplan‒Meier survival curves were constructed to explore the relationship between the postoperative Barthel index at discharge and the one-year mortality of geriatric patients after hip fracture surgery. Results A total of 444 patients with a mean age of 81.61±6.14 years were included. A significant difference was not observed in the preoperative Barthel index at admission between the deceased group and the surviving group (38.90±15.83 vs 36.96±10.74, p=0.446). However, the difference in the postoperative Barthel index at discharge between these two groups was statistically significant (43.08±14.40 vs 53.18±13.43, P<0.001). The multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that the postoperative Barthel index at discharge was an independent risk factor for one-year mortality after adjustment for confounding variables (adjusted OR 0.73, 95% CI 0.55-0.98, p˂0.05). The Kaplan‒Meier survival curve showed that patients who had a high Barthel index (≥50) at discharge had a significantly lower mortality in the long term than patients with a low Barthel index (<50) at discharge (P< 0.001). Conclusion The postoperative Barthel index at discharge was independently associated with the one-year mortality of geriatric patients after hip fracture surgery. A higher postoperative Barthel index at discharge indicated a lower mortality after hip fracture surgery. The Barthel index at discharge has the potential to provide essential prognostic information for early risk stratification and directing future care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the regulatory role of the long non-coding RNA LINC00926 in pyroptosis of hypoxia-induced human umbilical vein vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) and explore the molecular mechanism. METHODS HUVECs were transfected with a LINC00926-overexpressing plasmid (OE-LINC00926), a siRNA targeting ELAVL1, or both, followed by exposure to hypoxia (5% O2) or normoxia. The expression of LINC00926 and ELAVL1 in hypoxia-treated HUVECs was detected using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and Western blotting. Cell proliferation was detected using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), and the levels of IL-1β in the cell cultures was determined with ELISA. The protein expression levels of pyroptosis-related proteins (caspase-1, cleaved caspase-1 and NLRP3) in the treated cells were analyzed using Western blotting, and the binding between LINC00926 and ELAVL1 was verified with RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay. RESULTS Exposure to hypoxia obviously up-regulated the mRNA expression of LINC00926 and the protein expression of ELAVL1 in HUVECs, but did not affect the mRNA expression of ELAVL1. LINC00926 overexpression in the cells significantly inhibited cell proliferation, increased IL-1β level and enhanced the expressions of pyroptosis-related proteins (all P < 0.05). LINC00926 overexpression further up-regulated the protein expression of ELAVL1 in hypoxia-exposed HUVECs. The results of RIP assay confirmed the binding between LINC00926 and ELAVL1. ELAVL1 knockdown significantly decreased IL-1β level and the expressions of pyroptosis-related proteins in hypoxia-exposed HUVECs (P < 0.05), while LINC00926 overexpression partially reversed the effects of ELAVL1 knockdown. CONCLUSION LINC00926 promotes pyroptosis of hypoxia-induced HUVECs by recruiting ELAVL1.

Abstract
For patients with refractory breast cancer (BC), integrative immunotherapies are emerging as a critical component of treatment. However, many patients remain unresponsive to treatment or relapse after a period. Different cells and mediators in the tumor microenvironment (TME) play important roles in the progression of BC, and cancer stem cells (CSCs) are deemed the main cause of relapse. Their characteristics depend on their interactions with their microenvironment as well as on the inducing factors and elements in this environment. Strategies to modulate the immune system in the TME of BC that are aimed at reversing the suppressive networks within it and eradicating residual CSCs are, thus, essential for improving the current therapeutic efficacy of BC. This review focuses on the development of immunoresistance in BCs and discusses the strategies that can modulate the immune system and target breast CSCs directly to treat BC including immunotherapy with immune checkpoint blockades.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE While high concentrations of toluene are known to affect multiple human organ systems, research concerning the influence of immediate, short-term exposure to toluene indoors and at low concentrations is scarce. Here, we studied effects of indoor toluene exposure on neural network alterations during working memory (WM) encoding. METHODS A total of 23 healthy college students were recruited. All participants were situated in a closed environmental chamber with a full fresh air system. Each participant was subjected to four exposure experiments with different toluene concentrations (0, 17.5, 35, and 70 ppb, named Group A, B, C and D, respectively), with at least one week between each experiment. WM Behavioral and 19-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings in a pre-set environmental chamber were conducted simultaneously during each toluene exposure experiment. Neural networks relevant to WM encoding were visualized analyzing the obtained data. RESULTS 1. No significant difference in WM behavioral performance among the four groups was found. However, a significant increase in whole brain neural network functional connectivity was noted, especially in the frontal region. 2. An outflow directional transfer function (DTFoutflow) revealed higher frontal region values among Group D (the 70 ppb group) as compared to Group A, B and C (the0, 17.5 ppb and 35 ppb groups, respectively), although no differences in frontal region DTFinflow values among the four groups were noted. 3. The DTFFZ-F7, DTFFZ-T5, DTFFZ-P4, DTFFZ-P3, DTFFP2-O2, DTFP3-T4, DTFP3-F4, DTFP4-CZ and DTFP4-T4 values of Group D were found to be higher as compared to those of Group A and B. Furthermore, DTFFZ-F7 and DTFP4-T4 values of Group C were higher as compared to those of Group A. The DTFFZ-F7 values of Group D were higher as compared to those of the Group C. CONCLUSION Short-term toluene exposure significantly influences neural networks during cognitive processes such as WM encoding, even at low concentration.

Abstract
The eutrophication problem now threatens many lakes and reservoirs. To avoid the occurrence of algal blooms, some cities try to increase the flow rate or directly choose lakes or reservoirs with a short water residence time (WRT) as drinking water sources. However, up to now, whether such a strategy can achieve its goal is still unclear. In this study, a newly restored lake with a WRT of approximately 3 days was chosen to investigate algal growth potential as well as its responses to external nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) inputs. The results suggested that although the water quality of the lake could generally meet the environmental quality standards for surface water, dissolved inorganic nitrogen reached a high level with an average value of 1.58 mg/L. Meanwhile, a considerable increase in Chl-a concentration was observed across the flow direction. Especially, in July, Chl-a concentration at the site near the outlet was 8.1 times higher than that at the inlet, and cyanobacteria became the dominant species accounting for 83% of the total cell density. Nutrient enrichment experiments showed that algae could grow rapidly within 3 days with average specific growth rates (μ) of 0.36-0.42 d-1. The addition of N and P furtherly promoted the algal growth, and μ values of the treatments with P addition were the highest at 0.67-0.83 d-1. These results indicated that even if the WRT was reduced to 3 days, the risk of the occurrence of algal blooms still exists, and this undesirable trend would be enhanced by the short-term external nutrient input. Our findings indicated that the hydrodynamic control measures may not be entirely successful in protecting the drinking water source from algal blooms, especially when its influent has already been under eutrophication.

Abstract
Recently, the morbidity of acute severe hepatitis of unknown origin in children (SHIC) has tended to decrease, but this condition should not be ignored because of its uncertain but severe nature. The current study briefly summarizes updated information regarding the epidemiological, clinical, and etiological aspects of SHIC based on the newest information available. Opinions from pediatricians are also presented. In light of the status quo of SHIC and COVID-19 globally, several suggestions are proposed to improve future studies, which could help to further explore the underlying mechanisms of SHIC in the context of COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the publications and citations of Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control from 2011 to 2020, so as to provide insights into improving the journal quality and impact. METHODS All publications were retrieved from 60 issues of 10 volumes of Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control from 2011 to 2020, and publication and citation analyses were performed using a bibliometric method. RESULTS A total of 1 867 articles were published in Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control from 2011 to 2020, with the largest number in 2012 (220 publications) and the lowest in 2020 (135 publications), and original article (36.48%), control experience (17.14%) and control study (10.34%) were the three most common article type. The overall proportion of grant-supported articles was 59.08% (1 103/1 867), and the number of grant per article was (2.34±1.58) grants. The mean duration from submission to publication was (173.48±105.84) days per article, and there was a significant difference in the mean duration from submission to publication among years (F = 30.883, P < 0.01). Jiangsu Province (492 publications, 26.35%), Shanghai Municipality (264 publications, 14.14%) and Hubei Province (230 publications, 12.32%) were the three most productive provinces where the first author lived, and disease control and prevention institutions were the predominant affiliations of the first author (67.22%), with Jiangsu Institute of Schistosomiasis Control, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Wannan Medical College as the three most productive affiliations. The number of authors was 5.94 authors per publication, and the proportion of co-authored publications was 95.45% in Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control from 2011 to 2020. Journal article was the predominant type of cited (89.97%), and the mean number of citations was (15.70±11.56) citations per publication, with a significant difference in the mean number of citations per publication among years (F = 2.205, P < 0.05). The impact factors of Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control ranged from 0.877 to 1.676 during the period from 2011 to 2020, and the overall Price index was 47.59%. CONCLUSIONS Both the academic impact and national transmissibility of Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control appeared a tendency towards a rise from 2011 to 2020. Seeking high-quality contributions, increasing interdisciplinary integration, shortening the duration from submission to publication, expanding the coverage of publication services and enhancing impact are the future priorities of the journal.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, there has been an increasing amount of research on the "obesity paradox". So our primary objective was to explore whether this phenomenon exists in our study, and secondary objective was to determine the effect of body mass index (BMI) on major complications, and the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) after hip fracture surgery after controlling for confounding factors. METHODS We included patients over 70 years old with hip fracture who were admitted to the Department of Orthopedics, Peking University First Hospital between 2015 and 2021. Patients were classified as underweight (UW, < 18.5 kg/m2), normal weight (NW, 18.5-24.9 kg/m2), overweight (OW, 25.0-29.9 kg/m2) and obese (OB, ≥ 30.0 kg/m2). We analyzed demographic characteristics, operation information and postoperative outcomes. Using multivariate regression with normal-weight patients as the reference, we determined the odds of 1-year mortality, major complications, and AKI by BMI category. RESULTS A total of 644 patients were included. Nine percent of patients died after 1 year, 18% had major postoperative complications, and 12% had AKI. There was a U-shaped relationship between BMI and the rates of major complications or AKI. However, there was a linear decreasing relationship between 1-year mortality and BMI. After controlling for confounding factors, multivariate regression analysis showed that the risk of 1-year mortality after surgery was 2.24 times higher in underweight patients than in normal-weight patients (P < 0.05, OR: 2.24, 95% CI 1.14-4.42). Compared with normal-weight patients, underweight patients had a 2.07 times increased risk of major complications (P < 0.05, OR 2.07, 95% CI 1.21-3.55), and the risk of major complications in obese patients was 2.57 times higher than that in normal-weight patients (P < 0.05, OR 2.57, 95% CI 1.09-6.09). Compared with normal-weight, underweight patients had a 2.18 times increased risk of AKI (P < 0.05, OR 2.18, 95% CI 1.17-4.05). CONCLUSIONS The 1-year mortality risk of patients with higher BMI was significantly reduced. Besides, compared with normal-weight patients, underweight patients and obese patients have a higher risk of major complications; low-weight and obese patients are at higher risk for AKI.

Abstract
Interstitial lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are caused by persistent micro-injuries to alveolar epithelial tissues accompanied by aberrant repair processes. IPF is currently treated with pirfenidone and nintedanib, compounds which slow the rate of disease progression but fail to target underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. The DNA repair protein 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase-1 (OGG1) has significant roles in the modulation of inflammation and metabolic syndromes. Currently, no pharmaceutical solutions targeting OGG1 have been utilized in the treatment of IPF. In this study we show Ogg1-targeting siRNA mitigates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in male mice, highlighting OGG1 as a tractable target in lung fibrosis. The small molecule OGG1 inhibitor, TH5487, decreases myofibroblast transition and associated pro-fibrotic gene expressions in fibroblast cells. In addition, TH5487 decreases levels of pro-inflammatory mediators, inflammatory cell infiltration, and lung remodeling in a murine model of bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis conducted in male C57BL6/J mice. OGG1 and SMAD7 interact to induce fibroblast proliferation and differentiation and display roles in fibrotic murine and IPF patient lung tissue. Taken together, these data suggest that TH5487 is a potentially clinically relevant treatment for IPF but further study in human trials is required.

Abstract
Although toluene is a typical in-vehicle pollutant, the impacts of in-vehicle toluene exposure on cognitive functions remain unestablished. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of short-term toluene exposure in vehicles on working memory based on neural oscillations. In total, 24 healthy adults were recruited. Each subject was exposed to four different concentrations of toluene and divided into 0 ppb, 17.5 ppb, 35 ppb, and 70 ppb groups for self-control studies. After 4 h of exposure to each concentration of toluene, a behavioral test of visual working memory was performed while 19-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) signals were collected. Meanwhile, the power spectral density (PSD) and spatial distribution of working memory encoding, maintenance, and extraction periods were calculated by short-time Fourier transform to clarify the characteristic frequency bands, major brain regions, and characteristic channels of each period. To compare the changes in the characteristic patterns of neural oscillations under the effect of different concentrations of toluene. There was no significant difference in working memory reaction time and correct rate between the groups at different toluene concentrations (p > 0.05). The characteristic frequency band of the working memory neural oscillations in each group was the theta frequency band; the PSD of the theta frequency band was predominantly concentrated in the frontal area, and the characteristic channel was the Fz channel. The whole brain (F = 3.817, p < 0.05; F = 4.758, p < 0.01; F = 3.694, p < 0.05), the frontal area (F = 2.505, p < 0.05; F = 2.839, p < 0.05; F = 6.068, p < 0.05), the Fz channel (F = 3.522, p < 0.05; F = 3.745, p < 0.05; F = 6.526, p < 0.05), and the PSD of working memory in the theta frequency band was significantly increased in the 70 ppb group compared with the other three groups during the coding, maintenance, and retrieval phases of working memory. When the in-vehicle toluene exposure concentration was 70 ppb, the PSD of the characteristic frequency bands of working memory was significantly increased in the whole brain, major brain regions, and characteristic channels.

Abstract
The implementation of several tobacco control policies in the Philippines may have contributed to a decrease in secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure. We examined changes in SHS exposure at work and in public places between 2009 and 2015 among adults aged ≥15 years and interpreted these results within the tobacco policy landscape in the Philippines. We analyzed the Philippines Global Adult Tobacco Survey 2009 and 2015 data. We examined marginal effects in logistic regression to get the adjusted prevalence of SHS exposure at five work and public places, controlling for selected characteristics. We calculated adjusted prevalence ratios and adjusted prevalence differences between 2009 and 2015. Adjusted prevalence of SHS exposure decreased from 2009 to 2015 by 19% (5.7 percentage points) at work, 45% (11.2 percentage points) in government buildings, 48% (3.2 percentage points) in healthcare facilities, 29% (8.2 percentage points) in restaurants, and 33% (19.9 percentage points) on public transportation. Although the prevalence of SHS exposure at work and in public places decreased significantly between 2009 and 2015, a substantial proportion of adults remain exposed to SHS. This study highlights the importance of continued implementation, enforcement, monitoring, and evaluation of tobacco control and prevention measures in the Philippines.

Abstract
Background Acute kidney injury (AKI), characterized by sudden impairment of kidney function, is an uncommon complication following hip fracture surgery that is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. We constructed a nomogram to stratify patients according to risk of AKI after hip fracture surgery to guide clinicians in the implementation of timely interventions. Methods Patients who received hip fracture surgery from January 2015 to December 2021 were retrospectively identified and divided into a training set (n=448, surgery from January 2015 to December 2019) and a validation set (n=200, surgery from January 2020 to December 2021). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify risk factors for AKI after surgery in the training set. A nomogram was constructed based the risk factors for AKI, and was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results The mean age was 82.0±6.22 years-old and the prevalence of post-surgical AKI was 13.3%. Age, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, the preexistence of chronic kidney disease (CKD), cemented surgery and the decrease of hemoglobin on the first day after surgery were identified as independent risk factors of AKI after hip fracture surgery, and a predictive nomogram was established based on the multivariable model. The predictive nomogram had good discrimination ability (training set: AUC: 0.784, 95% CI: 0.720-0.848; validation set: AUC: 0.804, 95% CI: 0.704-0.903), and showed good validation ability and clinical usefulness based on a calibration plot and decision curve analysis. Conclusion A nomogram that incorporated five risk factors including age, ASA score, preexisting CKD, cemented surgery and the decrease of hemoglobin on the first day after surgery had good predictive performance and discrimination. Use of our results for early stratification and intervention has the potential to improve the outcomes of patients receiving hip fracture surgery. Future large, multicenter cohorts are needed to verify the model's performance.

Abstract
The diagnosis of pleural tuberculosis (TB) remains difficult due to the paucity of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in pleural fluid (PF). This study aimed to improve pleural TB diagnosis using highly sensitive digital PCR (dPCR) technique. A total of 310 patients with evidence of PF were consecutively enrolled, 183 of whom suffered from pleural TB and 127 from non-TB. PF samples were prospectively collected and total DNA was extracted. The copy numbers of M. tuberculosis insertion sequence (IS) 6110 and IS1081 in DNA were quantified using dPCR. The overall area under the curve of IS6110-dPCR was greater than that of IS1081-dPCR (0.85 versus 0.79). PF IS6110 OR IS1081-dPCR (according to their cut-off values, "positive" was defined as either of them was positive, while "negative" was defined as both of them were negative) had higher sensitivity and equal specificity compared with single target-dPCR. The sensitivity of PF IS6110 OR IS1081-dPCR for total, definite, and probable pleural TB was 59.0% (95% CI = 51.5% to 66.2%), 72.8% (95% CI = 62.6% to 81.6%), and 45.1% (95% CI = 34.6% to 55.8%), respectively. Its specificity was 100% (95% CI = 97.1% to 100.0%). PF IS6110 OR IS1081-dPCR showed a higher sensitivity than smear microscopy (57.4% versus 7.1%), mycobacterial culture (55.3% versus 31.8%), and Xpert MTB/RIF (57.6% versus 23.0%). Long antituberculosis treatment time (>1 month) was found to be associated with negative dPCR results in pleural TB patients. This study indicates that PF IS6110 OR IS1081-dPCR is an accurate molecular assay, which is more sensitive than routine etiological tests and has the potential to enhance the definite diagnosis of pleural TB. IMPORTANCE Pleural TB is one of the most frequent causes of pleural effusion, especially in areas with high burden of TB. Due to the paucibacillary nature of the disease, the diagnostic sensitivities of all available bacteriological and molecular tests remain poor. There is an urgent need to develop new efficient methods. Digital PCR (dPCR) is the third generation of PCR that enables the exact quantification of trace nucleic acids in samples. This study evaluates the diagnostic performance of pleural fluid (PF) dPCR analysis for pleural TB, and shows that PF IS6110 OR IS1081-dPCR has a higher sensitivity than routine etiological tests such as smear microscopy, mycobacterial culture, and Xpert MTB/RIF. This work provides a new choice for improving the definite diagnosis of pleural TB.

Abstract
Hypoxia can cause basement membrane (BM) degradation in tissues. Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) is involved in various human cancers as well as BM degradation by downregulating type IV collagen (COL4). This study investigated the role of MMP-9 in hypoxia-mediated BM degradation in rat bone marrow based on its regulation of collagen type IV alpha 1 chain (COL4A1). Eighty male rats were randomly divided into four groups based on exposure to hypoxic conditions at a simulated altitude of 7,000 m, control (normoxia) and 3, 7, and 10 days of hypoxia exposure. BM degradation in bone marrow was determined by transmission electron microscopy. MMP-9 levels were assessed by western blot and real-time PCR, and COL4A1 levels were assessed by western blot and immunohistochemistry. Microvessels BMs in bone marrow exposed to acute hypoxia were observed by electron microscopy. MMP-9 expression increased, COL4A1 protein expression decreased, and BM degradation occurred in the 10-, 7-, and 3-day hypoxia groups compared with that in the control group (all P < 0.05). Hypoxia increased MMP-9 levels, which in turn downregulated COL4A1, thereby increasing BM degradation. MMP-9 upregulation significantly promoted BM degradation and COL4A1 downregulation. Our results suggest that MMP-9 is related to acute hypoxia-induced BM degradation in bone marrow by regulating COL4A1.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity increases the risk for metabolic and cardiovascular disease, and this risk occurs at lower body mass index (BMI) thresholds in Asian adults than in White adults. The degree to which obesity prevalence varies across heterogeneous Asian American subgroups is unclear because most obesity estimates combine all Asian Americans into a single group. OBJECTIVE To quantify obesity prevalence in Asian American subgroups among U.S. adults using both standard BMI categorizations and categorizations tailored to Asian populations. DESIGN Cross-sectional. SETTING United States, 2013 to 2020. PARTICIPANTS The analytic sample included 2 882 158 adults aged 18 years or older in the U.S. Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System surveys (2013 to 2020). Participants self-identified as non-Hispanic White ([NHW] n = 2 547 965); non-Hispanic Black ([NHB] n = 263 136); or non-Hispanic Asian ([NHA] n = 71 057), comprising Asian Indian (n = 13 916), Chinese (n = 11 686), Filipino (n = 11 815), Japanese (n = 12 473), Korean (n = 3634), and Vietnamese (n = 2618) Americans. MEASUREMENTS Obesity prevalence adjusted for age and sex calculated using both standard BMI thresholds (≥30 kg/m2) and BMI thresholds modified for Asian adults (≥27.5 kg/m2), based on self-reported height and weight. RESULTS Adjusted obesity prevalence (by standard categorization) was 11.7% (95% CI, 11.2% to 12.2%) in NHA, 39.7% (CI, 39.4% to 40.1%) in NHB, and 29.4% (CI, 29.3% to 29.5%) in NHW participants; the prevalence was 16.8% (CI, 15.2% to 18.5%) in Filipino, 15.3% (CI, 13.2% to 17.5%) in Japanese, 11.2% (CI, 10.2% to 12.2%) in Asian Indian, 8.5% (CI, 6.8% to 10.5%) in Korean, 6.5% (CI, 5.5% to 7.5%) in Chinese, and 6.3% (CI, 5.1% to 7.8%) in Vietnamese Americans. The prevalence using modified criteria (BMI ≥27.5 kg/m2) was 22.4% (CI, 21.8% to 23.1%) in NHA participants overall and 28.7% (CI, 26.8% to 30.7%) in Filipino, 26.7% (CI, 24.1% to 29.5%) in Japanese, 22.4% (CI, 21.1% to 23.7%) in Asian Indian, 17.4% (CI, 15.2% to 19.8%) in Korean, 13.6% (CI, 11.7% to 15.9%) in Vietnamese, and 13.2% (CI, 12.0% to 14.5%) in Chinese Americans. LIMITATION Body mass index estimates rely on self-reported data. CONCLUSION Substantial heterogeneity in obesity prevalence exists among Asian American subgroups in the United States. Abstract
Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of dual guiding catheter kissing technique (DCK) in the treatment of stent partly dislodgement in coronary artery. Methods: The study retrospectively involved 6 hospitalized patients with coronary artery stent partly dislodgement during PCI at The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from February 2016 to June 2019, DCK was used in these patients. We observe the success rate of stent retrieval, success rate of PCI, incidence of complications and major adverse cardiovascular events in 1 year follow up. Results: 6 patients were involved, of which 3 are male, ages range 49 to 68 years old, 4 patients are diagnosed with unstable angina, the other two are stable angina. All the partially disloged stents in the 6 patients were successfully removed from coronary artery. Except for 1 patient who refused coronary artery stenting again, the other 5 patients were successfully implanted coronary artery stenting. No serious complications occurred, no patients died and no major adverse cardiovascular events happened during 1 year follow up. Conclusions: DCK is safe and effective to remove partially dislodged stent in coronary artery.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the consistency of patient-completed and physician-completed Caprini scores. Methods: This study was a diagnostic study. We prospectively recruited 200 inpatients (including respiratory and critical care medicine, rheumatology and immunology, obstetrics and gynecology, and orthopedics). Clinical data of the recruited patients were collected. The Wechat applet was developed based on the Chinese version of the patient-completed Caprini score. Patient could enter the Wechat applet by scanning the QR code, and enter the height, weight and other contents to the Wechat applet. The applet could automatically calculate the score and make the risk stratification according to total score. At the same time, physicians would calculate the traditional Caprini score for the same patient and make risk stratification to evaluate the consistency of scores derived from the two methods. Results: The average age of these 200 patients was (59.6±13.9) years, 112(56.0%) of them were female and 184(92.0%) with high school education or above. There was no significant difference between the patient-completed and physician-completed scores (4.8±2.5 vs. 4.7±2.5,P=0.336). The time of physician-completed score was shorter than that of patient-completed score ((2.0±1.0) minutes vs.(2.4±1.2) minutes, P<0.000 1). There was no significant difference on the number of high-highest venous thromboembolism risk patients assessed by the patient-completed and the physician-completed scores: 84.5% (169/200) vs. 83.0%(166/200)(χ2=0.165, P=0.684).There was strong positive correlations between patient-completed and physician-completed scores (r=0.98, P<0.000 1). Cohen's ĸ evaluation showed that the patient-completed Caprini score was in excellent consistency with physician-completed Caprini score(κ=0.97,P<0.000 1). The result of Bland Altman method showed that only 3.0% (6/200) of the scores biased greatly, which was not within the 95% confidence interval, the result proved that the bias belonged to a small probability event. It was inferred that the scores of patient-completed were consistent with those of the physician-completed. Conclusions: The patient-completed Caprini score is in good agreement with the physician-completed Caprini score in this patient cohort.

Abstract
Background and purpose The diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is difficult due to the lack of sensitive methods. Identification of TBM-specific biomarkers in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may help diagnose and improve our understanding of TBM pathogenesis. Patients and methods Of the 112 suspected patients with TBM prospectively enrolled in the study, 32 patients with inconclusive diagnosis, non-infectious meningitis, and long-term treatment with hormones and immunosuppressants were excluded. The expression of 8 proteins in the CSF was analyzed using ELISA in 22 patients with definite TBM, 18 patients with probable TBM, and 40 patients with non-TBM. Results Significant differences in the expression of 7 proteins were detected between the TBM and non-TBM groups (P < 0.01). Unsupervised hierarchical clustering (UHC) analysis revealed a disease-specific profile consisting of 7 differentially expressed proteins for TBM diagnosis, with an accuracy of 82.5% (66/80). Logistic regression with forward stepwise analysis indicated that a combination of 3 biomarkers (APOE_APOAI_S100A8) showed a better ability to discriminate TBM from patients with non-TBM [area under the curve (AUC) = 0.916 (95%CI: 0.857–0.976)], with a sensitivity of 95.0% (95%CI: 83.1–99.4%) and a specificity of 77.5% (95%CI: 61.5–89.2%). Conclusion Our results confirmed the potential ability of CSF proteins to distinguish TBM from patients with non-TBM and provided a useful panel for the diagnosis of TBM.

Abstract
The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) of America has been running for more than 60 years and has achieved many significant achievements with international influence. The application of modern information technologies in NHANES provides a supplementary tool for the project's high quality and refined implementation. This paper introduces the information system of NHANES from seven aspects: project management, survey participant interview, physical examination, laboratory examination, field follow-up, data sharing, and social services. The construction and application prospects of the China National Health Survey Information System, suitable for China's native conditions, are also discussed in this article.
