Abstract
The present research examines the association between purpose in life - a component of well-being defined as the feeling that one's life is goal-oriented and has direction - and slow walking speed and the risk of developing slow walking speed over time. Participants (N = 18,825) were from three established longitudinal studies of older adults. At baseline, participants reported on their purpose in life, and interviewers measured their usual walking speed. Walking speed was measured at annual or biannual follow-up waves up to 16 years later. Random-effects meta-analysis was used to summarize the estimates from the individual studies. Every standard deviation higher in purpose in life (as a continuous measure) was associated with a lower likelihood of cross-sectional slow walking speed at baseline (meta-analytic OR = .80, 95% CI = .77-.83). Among participants who did not have slow walking speed at baseline (n = 8,448), every standard deviation higher purpose in life was associated with a lower likelihood of developing slow walking speed over the up to 16 years of follow-up (meta-analytic HR = .93, 95% CI = .89-.96). Physical activity and disease burden accounted for 25% and 14% of the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations, respectively. The associations were independent of age, sex, race, ethnicity, and education and not moderated by these factors. Higher purpose in life is associated with a lower risk of slow walking speed and a lower risk of developing slow walking speed over time. Purpose in life is a psychological resource that may help to support aspects of physical function, such as walking speed, and may help support better function with age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Impairments in real-world gait quality and quantity are multifaceted for individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), encompassing mobility, cognition, and fear of falling. However, these factors are often examined independently, limiting insights into the combined contributions they make to real-world ambulation. RESEARCH QUESTION How do mobility, cognition, and fear of falling contribute to real-world gait quality and quantity in individuals with MS? METHODS Twenty individuals with MS underwent a series of cognitive assessments, including the Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT), Symbol Digits Modalities Test (SDMT), Stroop Test, and the Selective Reminding Test (SRT). Participants also completed the Falls Efficacy Scale - International (FES-I) and walking impairment using the Patient Determined Disease Steps (PDDS). Following the in-lab session, participants wore an inertial sensor on their lower back and asked to go about their typical daily routines for three days. Metrics of gait speed, stride regularity, time spent walking, and total bouts were extracted from the real-world data. RESULTS Significant correlations were found between both real-world gait speed and stride regularity and the SDMT, FES-I, and PDDS. Backward linear regression analysis was conducted for gait speed and stride regularity, with PDDS and SDMT included in the final model for both metrics. These variables explained 63% of the variance in gait speed and 69% of the variance in stride regularity. Results were not significant for gait quantity after adjusting for age and sex. SIGNIFICANCE The study's results provide insight regarding the roles of cognition, walking impairment, and fear of falling on real-world ambulation. Deeper understanding of these contributions can inform the development of targeted interventions that aim to improve walking. Additionally, the absence of significant correlations between gait metrics, cognition, and fear of falling with gait quantity underscores the need for further research to identify factors that increased walking in this population.

Abstract
Impaired physical function contributes to falls, fractures, and mortality among patients undergoing dialysis. Using a metabolomic approach, we identified metabolite alterations and effect size-based composite scores for constructs of impaired gait speed and grip strength. 108 participants incident to dialysis had targeted plasma metabolomics via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and physical function assessed (i.e., 4 m walk, handgrip strength). Physical function measures were categorized as above/ below median, with grip utilizing sex-based medians. To develop composite scores, metabolites were identified via Wilcoxon uncorrected p < 0.05 and effect size > 0.40. Receiver operating characteristic analyses tested whether scores differentiated between above/below function groups. Participants were 54% male, 77% Black and 53 ± 14 y with dialysis vintage of 101 ± 50 days. Median (IQR) grip strength was 35.5 (11.1) kg (males) and 20 (8.4) kg (females); median gait speed was 0.82 (0.34) m/s. Of 246 measured metabolites, composite scores were composed of 22 and 12 metabolites for grip strength and gait speed, respectively. Area under the curve for metabolite composite was 0.88 (gait) and 0.911 (grip). Composite scores of physical function performed better than clinical parameters alone in patients on dialysis. These results provide potential pathways for interventions and needed validation in an independent cohort.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients seeking medical care for back pain often have coexisting painful joints and the effects of different combinations and number of coexisting pain sites (hip, knee, foot/ankle) to back pain on physical function domains and quality of life rating are not yet established. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in functional outcomes and QOL among individuals with back pain who have concurrent additional pain sites or no pain sites. METHODS Data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) cohort were used for this cross-sectional analysis. Men and women aged 45-79 years with back pain were binned into nine groups by presence or not of coexisting hip, knee, ankle/foot pain and combinations of these sites (N = 1,642). Healthy controls reported no joint pain. Main outcomes included Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome score (KOOS; quality of life and function-sports-and-recreation), Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC; Activities of Daily Living, Pain), Medical Outcomes Short Form-12 (SF-12) Physical Component score, and self-reported function in last 7-30 days (lifting 25-pound objects, housework). 20-m and 400-m walk times and gait speed and repeated chair rise test times were collected. RESULTS Compared to back pain alone, pain at all five sites was associated with 39%-86% worse KOOS, WOMAC, and SF-12 scores (p < .0001). Back-Hip and Back-Knee did not produce worse scores than Back pain alone, but Back-Hip-Knee and Back-Knee-Ankle/Foot did. The 20-m, 400-m walk, and repeated chair times were worse among individuals with pain at all five sites. Additional hip and knee sites to back pain, but not ankle/foot, worsened performance-based walk times and chair rise scores. CONCLUSIONS The number and type of coexistent lower body musculoskeletal pain among patients with back pain may be associated with perceived and performance-based assessments. Management plans that efficiently simultaneously address back and additional coexistent pain sites may maximize treatment functional benefits, address patient functional goals in life and mitigate disability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gut dysbiosis has been linked to frailty, but its association with early mobility decline is unclear. METHODS First, we determined the cross-sectional associations between walking speed and the gut microbiome in 740 older men (84 ± 4 years) from the MrOS cohort with available stool samples and 400 m walking speed measured in 2014-2016. Then, we analyzed the retrospective longitudinal associations between changes in 6 m walking speed (from 2005-2006 to 2014-2016, calculated by simple linear equation) and gut microbiome composition among participants with available data (702/740). We determined gut microbiome composition by 16S sequencing and examined diversity, taxa abundance, and performed network analysis to identify differences in the gut microbiome network of fast versus slow walkers. RESULTS Faster 400 m walking speed (m/s) was associated with greater microbiome α-diversity (R = 0.11; p = .004). The association between a slower decline in 6 m walking speed and higher α-diversity (R = 0.07; p = .054) approached borderline significance. Faster walking speed and less decline in walking speed were associated with a higher abundance of genus-level bacteria that produce short-chain fatty acids, and possess anti-inflammatory properties, including Paraprevotella, Fusicatenibacter, and Alistipes, after adjusting for potential covariates (p < .05). The gut microbiome networks of participants in the first versus last quartile of walking speed (≤0.9 vs ≥1.2 m/s) exhibited distinct characteristics, including different centrality measures (p < .05). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest a possible relationship between gut microbiome diversity and mobility function, as indicated by the associations between faster walking speed and less decline in walking speed over 10 years with higher gut microbiome diversity in older men.

Abstract
Objectives: Walking speed has been identified as an important indicator of functional independence and survival among older adults, with marital status being related to walking speed differences. We explored explanatory factors, with a focus on positive psychological wellbeing, in walking speed differences between married and non-married individuals in later life. Methods: We used wave 8 (2016/17) cross-sectional data from adults aged 60-79 years who participated in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (n = 3,743). An Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition was used to compute walking speed differences between married and unmarried individuals, and the portion of those differences that could be explained by characteristic differences in those groups, particularly wellbeing. Results: Overall, married individuals had walking speeds that were 0.073 m/s (95% confidence interval: 0.055-0.092 m/s) faster than their unmarried counterparts. This was primarily driven by differences between the married and separated/divorced group, and the widowed group. Included covariates explained roughly 89% of the overall walking speed difference. Positive psychological wellbeing consistently explained a significant portion of walking speed differences, ranging between 7% to 18% across comparisons. Conclusion: Although wealth has been previously found to partially explain walking speed differences by marital status, we found that positive psychological wellbeing also demonstrated pertinence to these differences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Nordic or Baltic Sea diet is a healthy plant-based dietary pattern composed of foods originating from Nordic countries, closely related to the Mediterranean diet. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet has been found to be associated with a reduced risk of frailty. Although adherence to the Nordic diet has been associated with health benefits, little is known about its association with frailty. OBJECTIVES To investigate the evidence from observational studies regarding the association between the Nordic/Baltic Sea diet and frailty among older adults. DESIGN Systematic review. METHODS Three databases (Medline/Ovid, Embase/Ovid, and Scopus) were systematically searched in February 2023 for observational studies examining the association between adherence to the Nordic diet and frailty among adults ≥60 years. The two authors independently assessed the full text of the papers for eligibility of studies and risk of bias. RESULTS Three studies (the results of which were reported across 6 papers) met the inclusion criteria, among which one study (2 papers) included only women. Greater adherence to the Nordic diet was associated with a reduced risk of frailty measured by modified Fried criteria in women (one study). Moreover, greater adherence to the Nordic diet was associated with improved muscle (handgrip/leg) strength (one study) and physical performance (two studies), but these differences were seen only in women, with no significant results in men in two studies. Greater adherence to the Nordic diet was also associated with a lower risk of mobility limitations and improved ability to carry out self-care tasks (one study) and a borderline non-significant difference in Activities of Daily Living (one study). A meta-analysis was not performed due to heterogenous outcomes. Although all studies were of good quality, the results should be carefully interpreted due to methodological limitations. CONCLUSIONS Adherence to the Nordic diet could be promising in reducing frailty risk, but more robust studies with equal gender representation and frailty-specific outcomes are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Subjective cognitive decline represents a critical stage for preventing mild cognitive impairment and dementia, but the links between clinical progression in the subjective cognitive decline stage and various motor functions remain inconclusive. This cohort study aimed to elucidate the independent and joint associations between the clinical progression of subjective cognitive decline and motor functions. METHODS We enrolled 4880 community-dwelling elderly participants from a national cohort and used Cox proportional hazard regression model and restricted cubic spline models to explore the longitudinal associations between motor functions (gait, strength, balance, and endurance) and the clinical progression of subjective cognitive decline. RESULTS During 5-years follow-up, 1239 participants experienced clinical progression. After adjusting for demographics, vascular burden, body components, and polypharmacy, gait speed [hazard ratios (HRs)= 0.96, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.94-0.99], chair stand test (HRs=1.02, 95%CI 1.01-1.03), and endurance limitation in jogging 1 kilometer (HRs=1.18, 95%CI 1.04-1.34) were significantly associated with clinical progression. Among all participants, individuals characterized by poor upper- and lower-body strength, as well as those with slow pace and reduced endurance, faced the highest risk of cognitive impairment. CONCLUSIONS This study emphasizes the potential of gait speed, muscle strength, and endurance as non-cognitive indicators of clinical progression in subjective cognitive decline. Understanding their combined effectiveness may reveal primary physiological mechanisms contributing to the dual decline of motor and cognition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older adults have the highest rates of head injury and are at the greatest risk for subsequent dysfunction, yet research on subsequent physical decline is limited. We sought to examine cross-sectional and prospective associations of head injury with physical functioning and frailty among older adults. METHODS A total of 5 598 Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study participants from Visit 5 (2011-13) underwent assessments of physical functioning (Short Physical Performance Battery [SPPB], comprised of gait speed, chair stands, and balance) and frailty (defined using established criteria) were followed through Visit 7 (2018-19). Head injury was self-reported or based on ICD-9 codes. Adjusted linear and multinomial logistic regression models were used to estimate associations. Prospective models incorporated inverse probability of attrition weights to account for death or attrition. RESULTS Participants were a mean age of 75 years, 58% were women, 22% were Black, and 27% had a prior head injury. Compared to individuals without head injury, individuals with head injury had worse physical functioning (SPPB total score, β-coefficient = -0.22, 95% CI: -0.35 to -0.09) and were more likely to be pre-frail (OR = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.04 to 1.35) or frail (OR = 1.40, 95% CI: 1.08 to 1.80) compared to robust. Prospectively, head injury was associated with a 0.02 m/s greater decline (95% CI: -0.04 to -0.01) in gait speed over a median of 5 years. Among baseline robust individuals (n = 1 847), head injury was associated with increased odds of becoming pre-frail (OR = 1.32, 95% CI: 1.04 to 1.67) or frail (OR = 1.92, 95% CI: 1.05 to 3.51) compared to robust. CONCLUSIONS Older adults with prior head injury had worse physical functioning and greater frailty at baseline and were more likely to become frail and walk slower over time, compared to individuals without head injury.

Abstract
Background Joint inflexibility is acknowledged as a significant contributor to functional limitations in the older adult, with lengthening-type exercises identified as a potential remedial approach. Nevertheless, the responses to eccentric exercise in female older adults have not been extensively studied especially in home-based environment. Here, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of home-based static stretching (ST), dynamic closed-chain stretching (DCS), or eccentric exercise (ECC) interventions on flexibility, musculotendinous architecture, and functional ability in healthy older women. Methods We randomly assigned 51 healthy older women (age 65.9 ± 3.4 years) to one of three interventional exercise groups: DCS (N = 17), ECC (N = 17), or ST (N = 17). The training was performed 3 times a week for 6 weeks. The participants' musculotendinous stiffness, fascicle length, eccentric strength, and functional capacities were measured before the intervention, after 6 weeks of exercise, and at a 1-month follow-up. Results The results showed that all three interventions improved hamstring flexibility and passive ankle dorsiflexion (p < 0.001), with increased biceps femoris and medial gastrocnemius fascicle length (p < 0.01). However, there was no significant change in musculotendinous stiffness. The ECC intervention produced a greater improvement in knee flexor and calf eccentric peak torque (p < 0.05), and gait speed (p = 0.024) than the other two interventions. The changes in flexibility and knee flexor strength remained for up to 4 weeks after detraining. Conclusion In conclusion, the present study suggests that home-based ECC may be more beneficial in enhancing physical capacities in older women compared with either DCS or SS interventions.

Abstract
This study investigated whether the progression of liver fibrosis affects the prevalence of sarcopenia and incidence of decreased gait speed in older patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). Patients with CLD aged ≥ 60 years were classified into low, intermediate, and high fibrosis 4 (FIB-4) index groups according to the degree of liver fibrosis. The prevalence of sarcopenia and incidence of decreased gait speed (< 1.0 m/s) were compared among the three groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate factors affecting the risk of decreased gait speed. No significant difference was observed in the prevalence of sarcopenia among the three groups, but the incidence of decreased gait speed significantly differed (p = 0.029). When analyzed individually, a significant difference in decreased gait speed incidence was observed between the high and low FIB-4 index groups (p = 0.014). In logistic regression analysis, the progression of liver fibrosis (odds ratio: 1.32, 95% confidence interval: 1.13-1.55) and lower extremity muscle strength (LEMS) (odds ratio: 0.92, 95% confidence interval: 0.88-0.97) were significantly associated with decreased gait speed. As liver fibrosis progresses in older patients with CLD, it becomes important to focus on not only skeletal muscle mass and grip strength, but also gait speed and LEMS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The link between low grip strength, diminished physical performance, and adverse health outcomes in older adults has been well-established. However, the impact of older adults who cannot complete these tests on disability and mortality rates remains unexplored without longitudinal study. METHODS We collected data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Participants aged 60-101 were enrolled at baseline. We analyzed the prevalence of populations unable to complete handgrip strength (HGS), gait speed (GS), and five times chair stand test (FTCST). Completing risk models were used to estimate the risk of mortality and disability over seven years. RESULTS A total of 3,768 participants were included in the analysis. The percentage of older adults unable to complete the GS and FTCST tests increased notably with age, from 2.68 to 8.90% and 2.60-20.42%, respectively. The proportion of older people unable to perform the HGS was relatively stable, ranging from 1.40 to 3.66%. Compared to older adults who can complete these tests, those who cannot perform FTCST face a significantly higher risk of mortality, with 49.1% higher risk [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.491, 95% CI = 1.156, 1.922; subdistribution hazard ratio (SHR) = 1.491, 95%CI = 1.135,1.958)]. Participants who were unable to complete the GS test had a higher risk of developing ADL disability, regardless of whether they were compared to the lowest-performing group (HR = 1.411, 95%CI = 1.037,1.920; SHR = 1.356, 95%CI = 1.030,1.785) or those who can complete the GS (HR = 1.727, 95%CI = 1.302,2.292; SHR = 1.541, 95%CI = 1.196,1.986). No statistically significant difference in the risk of developing ADL disability among older adults who were unable to complete the HGS test compared with either the poorest performing group (HR = 0.982, 95% CI = 0.578, 1.666; SHR = 1.025, 95% CI = 0.639, 1.642) or those who were able to complete the HGS test (HR = 1.008, 95% CI = 0.601, 1.688; SHR = 0.981, 95% CI = 0.619, 1.553). The risk of all-cause mortality was not significantly different for older adults who were unable to complete the HGS test compared to those with the worst performance (HR = 1.196, 95%CI = 0.709-2.020; SHR = 1.196, 95%CI = 0.674, 2.124) or those who were able to complete the test (HR = 1.462, 95%CI = 0.872-2.450; SHR = 1.462, 95%CI = 0.821,2.605). CONCLUSION The risks of adverse events faced by older adults unable to complete the tests vary, indicating the necessity for future research to conduct separate analyses on this high-risk population.

Abstract
Cellular senescence, a hallmark of aging, results in a senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) with an increased production of proinflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and proteases. Evidence from nonhuman models demonstrates that SASP contributes to tissue dysfunction and pathological effects of aging. However, there are relatively few human studies on the relationship between SASP and aging-related health outcomes. Proteins from the SASP Atlas were measured in plasma using aptamer-based proteomics (SomaLogic). Regression models were used to identify SASP protein associations with aging-related traits representing multiple aspects of physiology in 1 201 participants from 2 human cohort studies (BLSA/GESTALT and InCHIANTI). Traits examined were fasting glucose, C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, alkaline phosphatase, blood urea nitrogen, albumin, red blood cell distribution width, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, gait speed, and grip strength. Study results were combined with a fixed-effect inverse-variance weighted meta-analysis. In the meta-analysis, 28 of 77 SASP proteins were significantly associated with age. Of the 28 age-associated SASP proteins, 18 were significantly associated with 1 or more clinical traits, and 7 SASP proteins were significantly associated with 3 or more traits. Growth/differentiation factor 15, Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 2, and Cystatin-C showed significant associations with inflammatory markers and measures of physical function (grip strength or gait speed). These results support the relevance of SASP proteins to human aging, identify specific traits that are potentially affected by SASP, and prioritize specific SASP proteins for their utility as biomarkers of human aging.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Predicting the risk associated with vascular surgery in older adult patients has become increasingly challenging, primarily due to limitations in existing risk assessment tools. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of gait speed, a clinical indicator of frailty, in enhancing the prediction of mortality and morbidity in older adult patients undergoing vascular surgery. METHODS A single-center prospective cohort study was conducted, involving older adult patients undergoing vascular surgery at four tertiary care hospitals between 2021 and 2022. Eligible patients were aged 80 years or older and scheduled for surgical treatment of peripheral arterial disease of the lower limbs (IIb Leriche-Le Fontaine). The primary factor of interest was gait speed, defined as taking more than 6 s to walk 5 meters. The primary outcomes were in-hospital postoperative mortality and major morbidity. RESULTS The cohort comprised 131 patients with a mean age of 82.8 ± 1.4 years, with 34 % being female. Before vascular surgery, 60 patients (46 %) were categorized as slow walkers. Slow walkers were more likely to be female (43 % vs. 25 %, p < 0.03) and diabetic (50 % vs. 28 %, p < 0.01). Among the patients, 30 (23 %) experienced the primary composite outcome of mortality or major morbidity following vascular surgery. After adjusting for the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) Surgical Risk Calculator, slow gait speed independently predicted the composite outcome (odds ratio: 3.05; 95 % confidence interval: 1.23 to 7.54). CONCLUSIONS Gait speed is a straightforward and effective test that can help identify a subgroup of frail older adult patients at an elevated and incremental risk of mortality and major morbidity after vascular surgery. While gait speed remains a valuable clinical indicator of frailty, it is important to recognize that the broader context of mobility plays a pivotal role in postoperative outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Navigating your environment requires both straight-line gait as well as turning. Gait speed normative values are well established and utilized in determining a person's functional status, however, it has limitations. This study sought to examine whether turning speed declines with age and how it compared to gait speed age-related decline. METHODS A secondary analysis was performed on 275 community dwelling adults between the ages of 18-88 that performed a timed walking test with an inertial measurement unit on their lumbar spine. Turning speed and walking speed were extracted for each participant. A series of mixed models were compared, and Akaike's Information Criterion was used to determine the best fit model between age and turning speed and age and gait speed. FINDINGS Turning speed and gait speed normative values were reported for each age decade. A linear model with a random intercept of "Condition" was used to assess the relationship between age and turning speed. The results indicated a significant negative relationship between age and turning speed (B = -0.66, p < 0.001). A spline-fit model determined a significant negative relationship between age and gait speed after the age of 65 (B = -0.0097, p = 0.002). The effect of age on gait speed before age 65 was not significant. INTERPRETATION Turning speed significantly declines with age in a linear fashion while gait speed begins to decline after age 65. Turning speed may be more responsive to age than gait speed. More research is needed to determine if the decline in turning speed with age is associated with a decline in function.

Abstract
In Parkinson's disease (PD), impaired gait and cognition affect daily activities, particularly in the more advanced stages of the disease. This study investigated the relationship between gait parameters, cognitive performance, and brain morphology in patients with early untreated PD. 64 drug-naive PD patients and 47 healthy controls (HC) participated in the study. Single- and dual-task gait (counting task) were examined using an expanded Timed Up & Go Test measured on a GaitRite walkway. Measurements included gait speed, stride length, and cadence. A brain morphometry analysis was performed on T1-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images. In PD patients compared to HC, gait analysis revealed reduced speed (p < 0.001) and stride length (p < 0.001) in single-task gait, as well as greater dual-task cost (DTC) for speed (p = 0.007), stride length (p = 0.014) and cadence (p = 0.029). Based on the DTC measures in HC, PD patients were further divided into two subgroups with normal DTC (PD-nDTC) and abnormally increased DTC (PD-iDTC). For PD-nDTC, voxel-based morphometric correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between a cluster in the left primary motor cortex and stride-length DTC (r = 0.57, p = 0.027). For PD-iDTC, a negative correlation was found between a cluster in the right lingual gyrus and the DTC for gait cadence (r=-0.35, pFWE = 0.018). No significant correlations were found in HC. The associations found between brain morphometry and gait performance with a concurrent cognitive task may represent the substrate for gait and cognitive impairment occurring since the early stages of PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An important aim of total knee arthroplasty is to achieve functional recovery, which includes post-operative increase in walking speed. Therefore, predicting whether a patient will walk faster or slower after surgery is important in TKA, which has not been studied in previous literatures. Who walks faster and who walks slower after TKA? Can we predict these kinds of patients before surgery? HYPOTHESIS Whether or not a patient walk faster after total knee arthroplasty can be predicted with preoperative characteristics. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this retrospective cohort study, 128 female patients who underwent staged bilateral total knee arthroplasty were analyzed with gait analysis preoperatively and at postoperative two years. These patients were divided into three different groups according to the percentage of gait speed change after total knee arthroplasty: 1) V(+), more than 10% gait speed increase; 2) V(-), more than 10% gait speed decrease; and 3) V(0), those in-between. Gait parameters, mechanical axis angles, WOMAC pain score and Knee Society scores of the two groups (V(+) and V(-)) were compared. Furthermore, a classification model predicting whether a patient walks faster after total knee arthroplasty was designed using a machine learning algorithm. RESULTS After total knee arthroplasty, average gait speed increased by 0.07m/s from 0.87m/s to 0.94m/s (p<0.001) and gait speed increased in 43.8% of the patients (n=56). However, gait speed decreased in a significant number of patients (n=17, 13.3%). When V(+) and V(-) groups were compared, gait speed, cadence, sagittal/coronal knee range of motion, and Knee Society Function score were lower in the V(+) group before surgery, but became higher after surgery. Gait speed change could be predicted using three variables (preoperative gait speed, age, and the magnitude of mechanical axis angle). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the machine learning model was 0.86. DISCUSSION After total knee arthroplasty, gait speed was maintained or increased in most patients. However, gait speed decreased in a significant number of patients. The machine learning classification model showed a good predictive performance, which could aid in the decision-making and the timing of total knee arthroplasty. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to examine the longitudinal changes in trunk acceleration, gait speed, and paretic leg motion in patients with post-stroke hemiparesis, the relationships between variables at each time point, and whether initial trunk acceleration and gait parameters were related to gait speed 2 months later. METHODS Gait was assessed monthly in patients who could walk under supervision after stroke onset. Gait parameters, including gait speed and trailing limb angle (TLA), were measured. Trunk acceleration was quantified using acceleration root mean square (RMS) and stride regularity (SR) indices. RESULTS This study found statistically significant longitudinal changes in gait speed (p < .001), acceleration RMS of the total axes (p < .001), and SR of the vertical axes (p < .001). Gait speed correlated significantly with the acceleration RMS of the mediolateral (r = -0.815 to -0.901), vertical (r = -0.541 to -0.747), and anteroposterior (r = -0.718 to -0.829) axes, as well as the SR of the vertical axes (r = 0.558 to 0.724) at all time points from T0 to T2. For the TLA, only the acceleration RMS of the mediolateral axis correlated significantly over the entire study period (r = -0.530 to -0.724). In addition, initial TLA correlated significantly with gait speed after 2 months (r = -0.572). CONCLUSION This study showed that assessing trunk acceleration helps estimate the improvement in gait status in patients with post-stroke hemiparesis. The magnitude and regularity of trunk acceleration varied longitudinally and were related to gait speed and paretic leg motion at each time point; however, they could not predict future changes in gait speed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Dual decline in gait speed and cognition has been found to have higher dementia risk than no decline or pure decline. However, evidence from the Asian population is lacking. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association of dual decline from age 65 to 70 years with late-life dementia in older Japanese adults with different personal characteristics. METHODS Data were collected from an age-specific cohort study conducted in 482 Japanese 65-year-old adults. We investigated participant demographics, medical histories, lifestyles, subjective gait speed, and cognition at both 64/65 and 70/71 years old, and confirmed dementia until age of 85 years. Cox proportion hazard models were used to estimate the risk of dementia, with adjustments for covariates, and death was treated as a competing risk. RESULTS After a mean follow-up period of 12.5-years, 111 participants developed dementia. Older adults with dual decline are more likely to have hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and smoking habits. And we found that dual decline in gait speed and domain-specific cognition was associated with a higher risk of dementia compared with no decline in most cognitive tests, with the highest risk observed for gait speed combined with memory (sub-distribution hazard ratio:3.89, 95 %, confidence intervals: [1.68-9.01]). However, significant differences only existed in men after stratification by sex. CONCLUSIONS A dual decline in subjective gait speed and cognition may serve as a robust predictor of dementia over a decade prior to its onset, particularly in men. These findings highlighted the importance of screening for dual decline at an early age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A decrease in knee flexion excursion during the loading response may affect not only quadriceps muscle weakness, pain, and inflammatory symptoms, but also lead to physical function decline and activity limitation. The aim of this investigation was to clarify the relationship between knee flexion excursion during the loading response and mechanical stress on the knee joint, muscle strength, pain, and physical function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. METHODS Twenty patients diagnosed with medial knee osteoarthritis. The participants walked along a 10 m corridor in the laboratory at a comfortable pace. The kinematic and kinetic data were collected using a 3D motion analysis system. We employed to control for gait speed and age while examining the relationship between knee flexion excursion during the loading response and mechanical stress on the knee joint, muscle strength, pain, and physical function. FINDINGS Knee flexion excursion showed a significant positive correlation with the peak and angular impulse of knee flexion moment. In the partial correlation coefficients controlling for age and gait speed, significant negative correlations were found between knee flexion excursion and knee adduction moment angular impulse. INTERPRETATION It can be inferred that gait with reduced knee flexion movement during the loading response in patients with knee osteoarthritis may result in increased mechanical stress on the knee joint in the frontal plane. Exercise interventions aimed at increasing knee flexion excursion may result in a reduction in disease progression.

Abstract
Aims To investigate the correlation between glycaemic control with component of Physio-Cognitive Decline Syndrome (PCDS) and among each component of PCDS itself. Methods A cross sectional study was conducted (January 2021-November 2022) at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia on consecutively recruited T2DM outpatients aged 40-59 years old. Data on the latest three months HbA1c, hand grip strength (HGS), usual gait speed (GS), and Indonesian Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-Ina) were evaluated. Pearson or Spearman's test was used to analyse the correlations. Results There were 133 subjects with median age 53 (40-59) years. The PCDS was found in 48.1 % subjects, of which 64.1 % with uncontrolled glycaemia. Significant correlations were found between HGS and HbA1c (r = -0.24, R2 = 0.06, p < 0.01) and MoCA-Ina score (r = 0.21, R2 = 0.04, p < 0.05). Conclusion The higher HbA1c and the lower MoCA-Ina score, the weaker handgrip strength was.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Established health-related quality of life scores do not consider both subjective and objective indices of health. We propose the subjective and objective quality of life score (SOQOL) for the comprehensive assessment of health-related quality of life and aim to provide normative population data. The SOQOL is compatible with smartphone applications, allowing widespread use on a global scale. METHODS Normative SOQOL population data was sourced from pre-existing datasets on the EQ-5D-5L, daily step count, and walking speed. Normative values were calculated using weighted grand means. We trialled the SOQOL in a group of five patients presenting to a spinal neurosurgery clinic. RESULTS SOQOL scores decreased with age, and women had lower scores in every age group. In our case series, the spine patients with the biggest SOQOL deficit compared to age- and sex-matched population averages were found to be surgical while the rest were non-surgical. CONCLUSIONS The SOQOL shows promise as a simple and effective scoring tool that is compatible with smartphones, potentially useful for screening in primary and specialized care settings, and for assessment following healthcare interventions. This study, however, is preliminary, and the findings are primarily suggestive. They underline the necessity for future, more comprehensive studies to validate and expand upon these initial observations. The conclusion of both this abstract and the full paper will clearly state these limitations and the preliminary nature of the study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Walking speed and energy economy tend to decline with age. Lower-limb exoskeletons have demonstrated potential to improve either measure, but primarily in studies conducted on healthy younger adults. Promising techniques like optimization of exoskeleton assistance have yet to be tested with older populations, while speed and energy consumption have yet to be simultaneously optimized for any population. METHODS We investigated the effectiveness of human-in-the-loop optimization of ankle exoskeletons with older adults. Ten healthy adults > 65 years of age (5 females; mean age: 72 ± 3 yrs) participated in approximately 240 min of training and optimization with tethered ankle exoskeletons on a self-paced treadmill. Multi-objective human-in-the-loop optimization was used to identify assistive ankle plantarflexion torque patterns that simultaneously improved self-selected walking speed and metabolic rate. The effects of optimized exoskeleton assistance were evaluated in separate trials. RESULTS Optimized exoskeleton assistance improved walking performance for older adults. Both objectives were simultaneously improved; self-selected walking speed increased by 8% (0.10 m/s; p = 0.001) and metabolic rate decreased by 19% (p = 0.007), resulting in a 25% decrease in energetic cost of transport (p = 8e-4) compared to walking with exoskeletons applying zero torque. Compared to younger participants in studies optimizing a single objective, our participants required lower exoskeleton torques, experienced smaller improvements in energy use, and required more time for motor adaptation. CONCLUSIONS Our results confirm that exoskeleton assistance can improve walking performance for older adults and show that multiple objectives can be simultaneously addressed through human-in-the-loop optimization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Distal radius fractures (DRF) commonly occur in early postmenopausal females as the first fragility fracture. Although the incidence of DRF in this set of patients may be related to a lower ability to control their balance and gait, the detailed gait characteristics of DRF patients have not been examined. RESEARCH QUESTION Is it possible to identify the physical and gait features of DRF patients using in-shoe inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors at various gait speeds and to develop a machine learning (ML) algorithm to estimate patients with DRF using gait? METHODS In this cross-sectional case control study, we recruited 28 postmenopausal females with DRF as their first fragility fracture and 32 age-matched females without a history of fragility fractures. The participants underwent several physical and gait tests. In the gait performance test, the participants walked 16 m with the in-shoe IMU sensor at slower, preferred, and faster speeds. The gait parameters were calculated by the IMU, and we applied the ML technique using the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) algorithm to predict the presence of DRF. RESULTS The fracture group showed lower hand grip strength and lower ability to change gait speed. The difference in gait parameters was mainly observed at faster speeds. The amplitude of the change in the parameters was small in the fracture group. The XGBoost model demonstrated reasonable accuracy in predicting DRFs (area under the curve: 0.740), and the most relevant variable was the stance time at a faster speed. SIGNIFICANCE Gait analysis using in-shoe IMU sensors at different speeds is useful for evaluating the characteristics of DRFs. The obtained gait parameters allow the prediction of fractures using the XGBoost algorithm.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is currently unclear whether (and when) physical function exhibits a terminal decline phase, that is, a substantial acceleration of decline in the very last years before death. METHODS 702 deceased adults aged 70 years and older from the Yale PEP Study provided 4 133 measurements of physical function (Short Physical Performance Battery, SPPB) up to 20 years before death. In addition, continuous gait and chair rise subtest scores (in seconds) were assessed. Generalized mixed regression models with random change points were used to estimate the onset and the steepness of terminal decline in physical function. RESULTS Decline accelerated in the last years of life in all 3 measures of physical function. The onset of terminal decline occurred 1 year before death for the SPPB, and at 2.5 and 2.6 years before death for chair rise and gait speed test scores, respectively. Terminal declines in physical function were 6-8 times steeper than pre-terminal declines. Relative to those whose condition leading to death was frailty, participants who died from dementia and cancer had an up to 6 months earlier and 3 months later onset of terminal decline in SPPB, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Terminal decline in physical function among older adults is comparable to the more established terminal decline phenomenon in cognition. Our results provide additional evidence of late-life rapid decline in physical function due to impending death.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of neuromotor diseases that develops as a result of damage to the developing central nervous system during the perinatal period. The condition is usually accompanied by musculoskeletal problems resulting in movement disorders. Gait improvement therefore, is an important part of its treatment. Roboticassisted gait training (RAGT) is a new potential rehabilitation tool for CP patients, however there is no clear evidence for the effectiveness of this method. RESEARCH QUESTION Can robotic-assisted gait training improve walking function in children with CP? METHODS A systematic search was performed in five databases: MEDLINE (via PubMed), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science. Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials (RCT) with CP patients under the age of 18. Gross motor function and kinematic gait parameters of patients were the main outcomes. Two authors determined the risk of bias of the RCTs independently using the revised Risk of Bias 2 (ROB 2) tool. Mean Differences (MDs) along with their 95% Confidence Interval (CI) were calculated when at least three studies were present for an outcome, subgroup analysis was performed based on the treatment of the control group. RESULTS Of the 7363 screened articles, 13 papers met our inclusion criteria and among them, 7 studies could be used in our meta-analyses. The results related to RAGT suggest nonsignificant improvement in standing and walking function (Gross Motor Function Measure D, E), moreover changes in gait speed, step length, and in cadence were also only comparable to controls. SIGNIFICANCE The results indicate that there is a trend in some gait parameters where the improvement was higher in the intervention group than in control group. The therapeutic effect of RAGT was probably not superior to physiotherapy combined with treadmill training.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is a paucity of literature on optimal patterns of daily walking following joint arthroplasty, which are now evaluated with consumer technologies like smartphones, and can enhance our understanding of post-operative mobility. When smartphone-recorded, daily walking patterns are captured, qualities of gait-recovery such as gait speed or symmetry can be analyzed in real-world environments. RESEARCH QUESTION Are the daily distribution of walking bouts in the early post-operative period associated with 90-day gait quality measures following hip and knee arthroplasty? METHODS Gait data was collected passively using a smartphone-based care management platform in patients undergoing hip and knee arthroplasty. As recorded via subjects' free-living smartphone-collected gait bouts, data were investigated as a function of the walking session length and were used to create a ratio to the total time logging bouts, representing the fraction of walking performed during a single session per day (aggregation score). Quantile regression was performed to evaluate the association between early walking session lengths or aggregation score at 30 days post-operatively and the gait-sampled speed and asymmetry of walking at 90 days. RESULTS In total, 2255 patients provided evaluable data. The walking session length at 30 days was positively associated with 90-day mean gait speed across procedure types where quantile regression coefficients ranged from 0.11 to 0.17. In contrast, aggregation score was negatively associated with gait speed at 90 days, with coefficients ranging from -0.18 to -0.12. SIGNIFICANCE The duration and frequency of walking bouts was associated with recovery of gait speed and symmetry following lower limb arthroplasty. The findings may help clinicians design walking protocols that are associated with improved gait metrics at 3 months.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Walking speed is often measured with a stopwatch throughout stroke recovery. Wearable sensors also have been used recently to measure walking speed and provide information about spatiotemporal characteristics of walking. RESEARCH QUESTION Do walking speeds measured with stopwatch and APDM wearable sensors have concurrent validity? METHODS Individuals with chronic stroke (n = 62) performed the 10-meter walk test at comfortable and maximal speeds. Walking speeds were measured with a stopwatch and APDM Opal wireless wearable sensors (3-unit). Tests of concurrent validity between stopwatch and APDM (Bland-Altman plots, systematic and proportional bias, and intraclass correlations) and test-retest reliability between trials (intraclass correlations, standard error of measurement, and minimal detectable change) were performed. RESULTS Walking speeds measured with APDM were ∼0.07 m/s slower than those measured with stopwatch (systematic bias; t ≥ 13.1, p < 0.001). Intraclass correlations ranged from poor to excellent. There were greater differences in walking speeds between APDM and stopwatch for individuals with faster walking speeds (proportional bias). Test-retest reliability was excellent for both APDM and stopwatch (intraclass correlation≥0.94). Standard error of measurement ranged from 0.04 to 0.07 m/s and minimal detectable change ranged from 0.10 to 0.19 m/s. SIGNIFICANCE It may be inappropriate to use walking speed measurements from APDM sensors and stopwatch interchangeably in individuals with chronic stroke. Differences in walking speeds may reflect stopwatch error or the derivation of walking speed from wearable sensors. Test-retest reliability was excellent for both stopwatch and APDM, but minimal detectable change values were large. Large changes in walking speed may be required to be confident that the change is a true and clinically meaningful change and not measurement error. The validity and reliability of measuring walking speed with wearable sensors in individuals with chronic stroke has important implications for determining community ambulation, assessing improvements after rehabilitation, and developing exercise prescriptions.

Abstract
Background The correlation between hearing loss (HL) and physical performance in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) remains poorly investigated. This study explored the association between HL and physical performance in patients on MHD. Methods This multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted between July 2020 and April 2021 in seven hemodialysis centers in Shanghai and Suzhou, China. The hearing assessment was performed using pure-tone average (PTA). Physical performance was assessed using the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT), handgrip strength, and gait speed. Results Finally, 838 adult patients (male, 516 [61.6%]; 61.2 ± 2.6 years) were enrolled. Among them, 423 (50.5%) had mild to profound HL (male, 48.6% and female, 53.4%). Patients with HL had poorer physical performance than patients without HL (p < 0.001). TUGT was positively correlated with PTA (r = 0.265, p < 0.001), while handgrip strength and gait speed were negatively correlated with PTA (r = -0.356, p < 0.001 and r = -0.342, p < 0.001, respectively). Physical performance in patients aged <60 years showed significant dose-response relationships with HL. After adjusting for confounders, the odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for HL across the TUGT quartiles (lowest to highest) were 1.00 (reference), 1.15 (0.73-1.81), 1.69 (1.07-2.70), and 2.87 (1.69-4.88) (p for trend = 0.005). Conclusion Lower prevalence of HL was associated with a faster TUGT and a stronger handgrip strength in patients on MHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although combining a low-protein diet (LPD) with oral nutritional supplements increases treatment adherence and nutritional status in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the effect of this combination approach in older adults remains unclear. This study examined the impact of a 6% low-protein formula (6% LPF) with diet counseling in older adults with stage 3-5 CKD. METHODS In this three-month randomized controlled study, 66 patients (eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2, non-dialysis, over 65 years of age) were randomly assigned to an intervention group (LPD plus a 6% LPF) or control group (LPD alone). The 6% LPF comprised 400 kcal, 6 g of protein, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and various micronutrients. All data were collected at baseline and after three months, including physical performance based on hand grip strength (HGS) and gait speed, nutritional status using Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF) scores, body composition through bioelectrical impedance analysis, and dietary intake from 24-h dietary records. RESULTS This study incorporated 47 participants (median age, 73; median eGFR, 36 ml/min/1.73 m2; intervention group: 24; control group: 23). The intervention group exhibited significant differences in HGS and gait speed, and micronutrient analysis revealed significantly higher monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), EPA, DHA, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12, and folic acid intake than the control group. MNA-SF scores, macronutrient intake, and body composition did not differ significantly between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS Compared to LPD counseling alone, an LPD prescription with 6% LPF in older adults with CKD stages 3-5 helped relieve physical deterioration and increased micronutrient intake after three months. Abstract
BACKGROUND The Pittsburgh Performance Fatigability Index (PPFI) quantifies the percent decline in cadence using accelerometry during standardized walking tasks. Although PPFI has shown strong correlations with physical performance, the developmental sample was relatively homogenous and small, necessitating further validation. METHODS Participants from the Study of Muscle, Mobility and Aging (N = 805, age = 76.4 ± 5.0 years, 58% women, 85% White) wore an ActiGraph GT9X on the nondominant wrist during usual-paced 400 m walk. Tri-axial accelerations were analyzed to compute PPFI (higher score = greater fatigability). To evaluate construct and discriminant validity, Spearman correlations (rs) between PPFI and gait speed, Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), chair stand speed, leg peak power, VO2peak, perceived fatigability, and mood were examined. Sex-specific PPFI cut-points that optimally discriminated gait speed using classification and regression tree were then generated. Their discriminate power in relation to aforementioned physical performance were further evaluated. RESULTS Median PPFI score was 1.4% (25th-75th percentile range: 0%-21.7%), higher among women than men (p < .001). PPFI score was moderate-to-strongly correlated with gait speed (rs = -0.75), SPPB score (rs = -0.38), chair stand speed (rs = -0.36), leg peak power (rs = -0.34) and VO2peak (rs = -0.40), and less strongly with perceived fatigability (rs = 0.28-0.29), all p < .001. PPFI score was not correlated with mood (|rs| < 0.08). Sex-specific PPFI cut-points (no performance fatigability: PPFI = 0%; mild performance fatigability: 0% < PPFI < 3.5% [women], 0% < PPFI < 5.4% [men]; moderate-to-severe performance fatigability: PPFI ≥ 3.5% [women], PPFI ≥ 5.4% [men]) discriminated physical performance (all p < .001), adjusted for demographics and smoking status. CONCLUSION Our work underscores the utility of PPFI as a valid measure to quantify performance fatigability in future longitudinal epidemiologic studies and clinical/pharmaceutical trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Outdoor air pollution has been reported to be associated with frailty (including slow gait speed) in older adults. However, to date, no literature exists on the association between indoor air pollution (eg, unclean cooking fuel use) and gait speed. Therefore, we aimed to examine the cross-sectional association between unclean cooking fuel use and gait speed in a sample of older adults from 6 low- and middle-income countries (China, Ghana, India, Mexico, Russia, and South Africa). METHODS Cross-sectional, nationally representative data from the World Health Organization Study on global AGEing and adult health were analyzed. Unclean cooking fuel use referred to the use of kerosene/paraffin, coal/charcoal, wood, agriculture/crop, animal dung, and shrubs/grass based on self-report. Slow gait speed referred to the slowest quintile based on height, age, and sex-stratified values. Multivariable logistic regression and meta-analysis were done to assess associations. RESULTS Data on 14 585 individuals aged ≥65 years were analyzed (mean [standard deviation] age 72.6 [11.4] years; 45.0% males). Unclean cooking fuel use (vs clean cooking fuel use) was significantly associated with higher odds for slow gait speed (odds ratio = 1.45; 95% confidence interval: 1.14-1.85) based on a meta-analysis using country-wise estimates. The level of between-country heterogeneity was very low (I2 = 0%). CONCLUSIONS Unclean cooking fuel use was associated with slower gait speed among older adults. Future studies of longitudinal design are warranted to provide insight into the underlying mechanisms and possible causality.

Abstract
PURPOSE Sarcopenia and frailty are associated with mortality in older patients with gastrointestinal cancer. However, it is unclear if there is an additional risk when both are present. This study aimed to investigate the independent and overlapping of sarcopenia and frailty with mortality in this population. METHODS A prospective cohort study including older patients (≥ 60 years old) with gastrointestinal cancer. Sarcopenia was defined by the EWGSP2 criteria: (i) low muscle strength (handgrip test), (ii) low muscle mass (skeletal muscle index), and/or low muscle quality (skeletal muscle radiodensity) by computed tomography. Frailty was defined according to Fried phenotype (at least three of the five components): (i) low muscle strength (handgrip test), (ii) unintentional weight loss, (iii) self-reported exhaustion, (iv) low physical activity, and (v) low gait speed. Cox proportional hazards model was used to assess overall survival rates and risk of mortality. RESULTS We evaluated 179 patients with gastrointestinal cancer [68.0 (61.0-75.0) years old; 45% women]. The prevalence of sarcopenia, frailty, and sarcopenia-frailty was 32.9% (n = 59), 59.2% (n = 106), and 24.6% (n = 44), respectively. The incidence of mortality was 27.9% (n = 50) over a 23-month (IQR, 10, 28) period. There was an association of sarcopenia (HR = 1.78, 95% CI 1.03-3.06) with mortality, but no association was found of frailty and the outcome. Sarcopenia-frailty was associated with the highest risk of mortality (HR = 2.23, 95% CI 1.27-3.92). CONCLUSION Sarcopenic-frail older patients with gastrointestinal cancer have a higher risk of mortality than those with sarcopenia or frailty alone, which reinforces the importance of assessing both conditions in oncology clinical care.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Frailty is conventionally diagnosed using clinical tests and self-reported assessments. However, digital health technologies (DHTs), such as wearable accelerometers, can capture physical activity and gait during daily life, enabling more objective assessments. In this study, we assess the feasibility of deploying DHTs in community-dwelling older individuals, and investigate the relationship between digital measurements of physical activity and gait in naturalistic environments and participants' frailty status, as measured by conventional assessments. METHODS Fried Frailty Score (FFS) was used to classify fifty healthy individuals as non-frail (FFS = 0, n/female = 21/11, mean ± SD age: 71.10 ± 3.59 years), pre-frail (FFS = 1-2, n/female = 23/9, age: 73.74 ± 5.52 years), or frail (FFS = 3+, n/female = 6/6, age: 70.70 ± 6.53 years). Participants wore wrist-worn and lumbar-worn GENEActiv accelerometers (Activinsights Ltd., Kimbolton, UK) during three in-laboratory visits, and at-home for 2 weeks, to measure physical activity and gait. After this period, they completed a comfort and usability questionnaire. Compliant days at-home were defined as follows: those with ≥18 h of wear time, for the wrist-worn accelerometer, and those with ≥1 detected walking bout, for the lumbar-worn accelerometer. For each at-home measurement, a group analysis was performed using a linear regression model followed by ANOVA, to investigate the effect of frailty on physical activity and gait. Correlation between at-home digital measurements and conventional in-laboratory assessments was also investigated. RESULTS Participants were highly compliant in wearing the accelerometers, as 94% indicated willingness to wear the wrist device, and 66% the lumbar device, for at least 1 week. Time spent in sedentary activity and time spent in moderate activity as measured from the wrist device, as well as average gait speed and its 95th percentile from the lumbar device were significantly different between frailty groups. Moderate correlations between digital measurements and self-reported physical activity were found. CONCLUSIONS This work highlights the feasibility of deploying DHTs in studies involving older individuals. The potential of digital measurements in distinguishing frailty phenotypes, while unobtrusively collecting unbiased data, thus minimizing participants' travels to sites, will be further assessed in a follow-up study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the association between gait speed and cognitive status in outpatient older adults from a resource-limited setting in Peru. METHODS We performed a cross-sectional study including older adults aged ≥60 years attending a geriatrics outpatient clinic between July 2017 and February 2020. Gait speed was measured over a 10-meters distance without considering the first and last meter traveled. Cognitive status was assessed through the Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ) and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). We used a multivariate binomial logistic regression to conduct both an epidemiological and fully adjusted models. RESULTS We included 519 older adults (mean age: 75 years; IQR = 10), of whom 95 (18.3%) and 151 (31.5%) were cognitively impaired according to the SPMSQ and MMSE, respectively. Gait speed was slower among patients with poorer cognitive status as assessed by both tools (p < 0.001). Malnutrition (PR: 1.74; CI: 1.45-2.08) and functional dependency (PR: 4.35; CI: 2.68-7.08) were associated with a greater prevalence of cognitive impairment according to the SPMSQ, whereas a faster gait speed (PR: 0.27, CI: 0.14-0.52) and longer years of education (PR: 0.83, CI: 0.77-0.88) were associated with a less prevalence. CONCLUSIONS Slower gait speed was associated with poorer cognitive status in outpatient older adults. Gait speed may be a complementary tool in the cognitive assessment of older adults from resource-limited settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the relationship between self-reported and performance-based visual impairment (VI) and lower extremity physical function. METHODS Cross-sectional analysis of 2 219 Health ABC participants who completed vision testing and the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Linear regression models used either self-reported (weighted visual function question [VFQ] score) or performance-based (visual acuity [VA], log contrast sensitivity [LCS], Frisby stereoacuity [SA]) to predict SPPB or its components-gait speed, chair stands, or standing balance-with and without covariate adjustment. RESULTS Mean age was 73.5 years (range 69-80); 52.4% were female and 37.4% African American. All VI measures were strongly associated with SPPB in unadjusted and adjusted models (p < .001). A self-reported VFQ score 1 standard deviation lower than the mean (mean 87.8 out of 100) demonstrated a -0.241 (95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.325, -0.156) adjusted difference in SPPB. After controlling for covariates, VA of <20/40 (41%) demonstrated a -0.496 (-0.660, -0.331) lower SPPB score while SA score>85 arcsec (30%) had a -0.449 (-0.627, -0.271) adjusted SPPB score versus those with better visual function. LCS < 1.55 (28.6%) was associated with a -0.759 (-0.938, -0.579) lower and LCS ≤ 1.30 (8%) with a -1.216 (-1.515, -0.918) lower adjusted SPPB score relative to better LCS. In a final multivariable model containing multiple vision measures, LCS remained independently associated with SPPB and all components, while SA remained associated with balance (all p < .05). CONCLUSIONS Both self-reported and performance-based VI are strongly associated with poor lower extremity physical function. These findings may identify a subgroup of older adults with co-existing visual and physical dysfunction who may benefit from targeted screening and intervention to prevent disability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dementia is a growing health concern that affects millions of people worldwide. Gait and mobility disorders are often present and represent a major risk factor for falls. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of tango-therapy in gait speed, functional mobility, balance, falls, ability to perform activities of daily living and quality of life. METHODS A randomised controlled trial with 31 participants living in a specialised dementia unit, aged 65 to 93 years old, who were randomly assigned to tango group (IG) or physical exercise group (CG). The primary outcome was gait speed and Timed Up and Go test. The secondary outcomes include the Short Physical Performance Battery, the ability to perform activities of daily living (Katz Index) and quality of life (Quality of life in Alzheimer Disease). Measurements were performed at baseline, and after one and three months of training. RESULTS After 3 months, IG improved gait speed (p = 0.016), implying a statistically significant difference between groups in favour of IG (p = 0.003). CG significantly worsened the time to complete the TUG (p = 0.039). Both groups declined in their ability to perform activities of daily living, being statistically significant only in the CG (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Tango interventions showed efficacy in improving gait speed and in mitigating the decline in functional mobility and ADL skill capacities. Allowing older people with dementia access to non-pharmacological interventions may be a successful strategy to prevent functional decline. Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive frailty (CF) is a complex and heterogeneous clinical syndrome that indicates the onset of neurodegenerative processes and poor prognosis. In order to prevent the occurrence and development of CF in real world, we intended to develop and validate a simple and timely diagnostic instrument based on comprehensive geriatric assessment that will identify patients with potentially reversible CF (PRCF). METHODS 750 community-dwelling individuals aged over 60 years were randomly allocated to either a training or validation set at a 4:1 ratio. We used the operator regression model offering the least absolute data dimension shrinkage and feature selection among candidate predictors. PRCF was defined as the presence of physical pre-frailty, frailty, and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) occurring simultaneously. Multivariate logistic regression was conducted to build a diagnostic tool to present data as a nomogram. The performance of the tool was assessed with respect to its calibration, discrimination, and clinical usefulness. RESULTS PRCF was observed in 326 patients (43%). Predictors in the tool were educational background, coronary heart disease, handgrip strength, gait speed, instrumental activity of daily living (IADL) disability, subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and five-times-sit-to-stand test. The diagnostic nomogram-assisted tool exhibited good calibration and discrimination with a C-index of 0.805 and a higher C-index of 0.845 in internal validation. The calibration plots demonstrated strong agreement in both the training and validation sets, while decision curve analysis confirmed the nomogram's efficacy in clinical practice. CONCLUSIONS This tool can effectively identify older adults at high risk for PRCF, enabling physicians to make informed clinical decisions and implement proper patient-centered individual interventions.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine which performance assessment tools included in Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) are the most sensitive for the functional approach in the initial evaluation and during the therapy of old adults diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL). We prospectively recruited 31 patients aged 70 years or older presenting for an initial consultation in the Hematology Clinic of a tertiary hospital. We implemented an updated physical performance evaluation as part of CGA at baseline and during treatment. Baseline characteristics of the sample were compared according to age, Geriatric 8 (G8), frailty, Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), and sarcopenia measured by hand grip strength (HGS). Functional changes were monitored during the treatment period using HGS, gait speed (GS) and SPPB. The mean age was 79.0 (5.5) years and 51.6% of the sample was frail; 65,5% were treated with standard chemotherapy and 35,5% with a therapeutic regimen with attenuated doses. All the assessment tools included in CGA found functional differences at baseline when the sample was stratified and compared according to frailty, sarcopenia, and SPPB, but not according to G8 score and age. Only SPPB was able to detect functional differences between groups stratified by age at baseline. GS was the only score that identified clinically significant functional changes during the treatment. In conclusion, HGS and SPPB are appropriate performance scores to complete the functional approach in the initial hematologic evaluation, and GS is a promising option to detect functional decline during therapy in old adults with DLBCL.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The population of older adults is particularly heterogeneous with regard to frailty and the risk of falling, the two of which are linked. We conducted an exploratory, analysis (with no preconceived ideas) of data collected during multidisciplinary falls consultations (MFCs), to identify people with similar profiles. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed an observational, multicentre study of older patients (aged 75 and over) having been evaluated in an MFC. We excluded adults with a Mini Mental State Examination score < 14/30, an activities of daily living score < 4/6, or an unstable medical condition. Each participant underwent a clinical interview, impedancemetry, and a physical activity assessment (a questionnaire, and use of an activity tracker on 5 consecutive days). The K-means method and ascending hierarchical clustering were used to identify clusters of people with common characteristics. RESULTS Of the 106 participants, the median [IQR] mean number of falls in the previous 6 months was 1 [2]. Three functional clusters were identified: (i) fallers with poor mobility, difficulty getting up off the ground after a fall, and using a mobility aid for walking; (ii) an intermediate sedentary group with a gait speed of ~ 0.6 m s-1, and (iii) active people with a timed "up and go" test time below 15 s and a gait speed above 0.8 m s-1. CONCLUSIONS The population of older fallers referred for an MFC is heterogeneous. The presence of certain clinical characteristics enabled the definition of three patient clusters, which might help physicians to determine the most appropriate care objectives and pathways.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hemodialysis (HD) patients often experience cognitive deficits and reduced mobility. While studies have shown promising results of physical and/or cognitive training in older adults, their effects in HD patients remain understudied. AIMS This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a 12-week intradialytic training program combining cognitive training with physical exercise on attention domains and spontaneous gait speed (SGS) in HD patients. METHODS Forty-four HD patients were randomly assigned to either intradialytic cognitive and physical exercise training (EXP group; n = 22) or a standard care control group (CON group; n = 22). The EXP group performed intradialytic cycling and tablet-based cognitive training three days per week for 12 weeks. The primary outcome of the study was performance on the computerized test battery 'Test of Attentional Performance.' Secondary study outcome was patient mobility assessed by the four-meter SGS. Outcomes were assessed pre- and post-intervention. RESULTS Significant group x time interaction was observed in alertness (F(1,41) = 6.15, p = 0.017) and SGS (F(1,41) = 18.33, p < 0.001) in favor of the EXP group. Within-group analysis revealed a significant pre-post decline in the CON group in alertness test (-26.7 s; p = 0.04) and an improvement of SGS in EXP group (+ 0.07 s; p < 0.001). DISCUSSION This original study demonstrated that a combined physical and cognitive intradialytic training intervention led to improvements in SGS and preservation in alertness compared to a deterioration in the CON group. CONCLUSION Findings suggest that the intervention may serve as an effective tool to prevent the physical and cognitive decline in this patient population.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine which standardized physical performance tests are being used specifically in the assessment of adult patients before, during, or after undergoing treatment for hematologic malignancy and which of these functional tests have been demonstrated to have a correlation with key objective clinical outcome measures including mortality, progression-free survival, complete remission, hospital readmissions, emergency department visits, and hospital length of stay. METHODS PubMed/MEDLINE electronic databases were searched up to June 2021. Searches were restricted to English language. All resulting studies from the electronic database search were assessed by two reviewers for original research with physical performance data exclusive to patients with hematological malignancy. Studies with confounding intervention or the inclusion of pediatric patients were excluded. The quality of the remaining studies was assessed using PRISMA guidelines and Tooth Criteria by two reviewers, using a third reviewer to resolve any discrepancies. The main characteristics of each article, including sample size, population characteristics, physical performance testing methods, and significant and non-significant findings were extracted and compared. Additionally, one reviewer performed a literature review of the safety of physical performance testing. RESULTS One thousand two hundred fifty-six screened database results resulted in 14 studies included in the systematic review. All studies scored ≥ 0.59 on the Tooth Criteria, indicating moderate to high quality of reporting. Our review found six recurring measures of objective physical function assessed for correlation with clinical outcomes, primarily morbidity and mortality. The heterogeneity of each study precluded aggregate data analysis. CONCLUSIONS This review was a first step in evaluating which objective physical performance tests are best suited for identifying functional impairment before, during, and after oncologic treatment for adults with blood cancers. Additional studies are needed to determine the optimal objective functional measures to use as a guide in clinical decision-making in the hematologic patient population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Clinical interpretability of the gait speed and 5-times sit-to-stand (5-STS) tests is commonly established by comparing older adults with and without self-reported mobility limitations (SRML) on gait speed and 5-STS performance, and estimating clinical cutpoints for SRML using the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) method. Accumulating evidence, however, suggests that the adjusted predictive modeling (APM) method may be more appropriate to estimate these interpretational cutpoints. Thus, we aimed to compare, in community-dwelling older adults, gait speed and 5-STS cutpoints estimated using the ROC and APM methods. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS This study analyzed data from 955 community-dwelling independently walking older adults (73%women) aged ≥60 years (mean, 68; range, 60-88). METHODS Participants completed the 10-metre gait speed and 5-STS tests. Participants were classified as having SRML if they responded "Yes" to either of the 2 questions regarding walking and stair climbing difficulty. Cutpoints for SRML and its component questions were estimated using ROC analysis with Youden criterion and the APM method. RESULTS The proportions of participants with self-reported walking difficulty, self-reported stair climbing difficulty, and SRML were 10%, 19%, and 22%, respectively. Gait speed and 5-STS time were moderately correlated with each other (r=-0.56) and with the self-reported measures (absolute r-values, 0.39-0.44). ROC-based gait speed cutpoints were 0.14 to 0.16 m/s greater than APM-based cutpoints (P < 0.05) whilst ROC-based 5-STS time cutpoints were 0.8 to 3.3 s lower than APM-based cutpoints (P < 0.05 for walking difficulty). Compared with ROC-based cutpoints, APM-based cutptoints were more precise and they varied monotonically with self-reported walking difficulty, self-reported stair climbing difficulty, and SRML. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS In a sample of 955 older adults, our findings of precise and biologically plausible gait speed and 5-STS cutpoints for SRML estimated using the APM method indicate that this promising method could potentially complement or even replace traditional ROC methods.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We investigated sex differences in the associations between dairy consumption and the physical function among community-dwelling older adults. METHODS Six hundred and fifty-six older adults (75.6 ± 6.4 years old) participated in this study. Dairy consumption (5-item Likert score) and the physical function (gait speed, handgrip strength, and skeletal muscle mass) were measured. The linear and quadratic associations between dairy consumption and the physical function measures were examined by a multiple linear regression analysis adjusted for covariates. RESULTS Among women, an increased dairy consumption was significantly linearly associated with greater hand-grip strength and faster gait speed (both p<0.05) after adjusting for covariates. Among men, dairy consumption was not associated with the physical function measures. Dairy consumption was not associated with the muscle mass in either sex. CONCLUSIONS Increased dairy consumption was associated with a superior physical function in older women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous sarcopenia definitions have poor discriminatory accuracy for identifying people with/without relevant health outcomes, and poor agreement between methods of operationalizing sarcopenia criterion. The 2020 Sarcopenia Definitions and Outcomes Consortium (SDOC) definition recommends grip strength (absolute, or standardized to body mass index, total body fat, lean arm mass, or weight), and gait speed. The agreement between methods of operationalizing grip strength and discriminatory accuracy of the SDOC definition for health outcomes such as activities of daily living (ADL) disability is unknown. METHODS Cross-sectional analyses of 27 924 Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging participants aged 45-85 at baseline (2012-2015) stratified by sex. The associations of the SDOC definitions with ADL disability were assessed using logistic regression. Area under the curve (AUC) analyses were conducted to assess discriminatory accuracy. Agreement between methods of operationalizing grip strength was measured using Cohen's kappa. RESULTS Sarcopenia was associated with 1.60 (1.42-1.80) to 5.80 (4.89-6.88) greater odds of ADL disability with AUC values between 0.60 and 0.81. Agreement between methods of operationalizing grip strength was between 0.10-0.80 for grip strength alone and 0.45-0.91 when combined with gait speed. CONCLUSIONS The SDOC-suggested criteria of grip strength and gait speed are significantly associated with ADL disability and have high discriminatory accuracy. However, the agreement between methods of operationalizing grip strength tended to be modest, and AUC, sensitivity, and specificity differed depending on the definition. We suggest a single measure of grip strength be considered and age-stratified cutoff values to improve AUC values.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is ample evidence that mobility abilities between healthy young and elderly people differ. However, we do not know whether these differences are based on different lower leg motor capacity or instead reveal a general motor condition that could be detected by monitoring upper-limb motor behavior. We therefore captured body movements during a standard mobility task, namely the Timed Up and Go test (TUG) with subjects following different instructions while performing a rapid, repetitive goal-directed arm-movement test (arm-movement test). We hypothesized that we would be able to predict gait-related parameters from arm motor behavior, even regardless of age. METHODS Sixty healthy individuals were assigned to three groups (young: mean 26 ± 3 years, middle-aged 48 ± 9, old 68 ± 7). They performed the arm-movement and TUG test under three conditions: preferred (at preferred movement speed), dual-task (while counting backwards), and fast (at fast movement speed). We recorded the number of contacts within 20 s and the TUG duration. We also extracted TUG walking sequences to analyze spatiotemporal gait parameters and evaluated the correlation between arm-movement and TUG results. RESULTS The TUG condition at preferred speed revealed differences in gait speed and step length only between young and old, while dual-task and fast execution increased performance differences significantly among all 3 groups. Our old group's gait speed decreased the most doing the dual-task, while the young group's gait speed increased the most during the fast condition. As in our TUG results, arm-movements were significant faster in young than in middle-aged and old. We observed significant correlations between arm movements and the fast TUG condition, and that the number of contacts closely predicts TUG timefast and gait speedfast. This prediction is more accurate when including age. CONCLUSION We found that the age-related decline in mobility performance that TUG reveals strongly depends on the test instruction: the dual-task and fast condition clearly strengthened group contrasts. Interestingly, a fast TUG performance was predictable by the performance in a fast repetitive goal-directed arm-movements test, even beyond the age effect. We assume that arm movements and the fast TUG condition reflect similarly reduced motor function. Abstract
BACKGROUND We examined the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships of motor functions with depression in older adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS Participants (n = 984) were from the longitudinal Israel Diabetes and Cognitive Decline (IDCD) study. They were initially cognitively normal and underwent evaluations of motor functions (grip strength and gait speed) and of depression (using the 15-item version of the Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS]) approximately every 18 months. We applied Hierarchical Linear Mixed Models (HLMM) to investigate the associations between motor functions and depression adjusting for sociodemographic, cardiovascular factors, overall cognitive score, and subjective report of exhaustion. RESULTS Participants' baseline characteristics were 72 (±5) years of age (59.6% males), 13 (±4) years of education, Mini-Mental Status Exam (MMSE) score of 28.01 (±1.78), and a GDS score of (2 ± 2.00), consistent with normal cognitive status and lack of major affective symptomatology. Slower gait speed at baseline was associated with higher GDS scores (p = .001) and with their increase over time (p = .049). A decrease in walking speed from baseline was associated with an increase in GDS scores (p = .015). Lower grip strength at baseline was associated with higher GDS scores (p = .002), but not with trajectories in GDS scores over time. A faster decrease in grip strength from baseline was associated with a faster increase in GDS scores (p = .022). CONCLUSIONS Both gait speed and grip strength are cross-sectionally associated with depression. However, only gait speed and its decrease over time can potentially be used to predict incident depression symptoms, thus facilitating the introduction of depression prevention strategies.

Abstract
Mounting evidence indicates that abnormal gait speed predicts the progression of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease. Understanding the relationship between white matter integrity, especially myelination, and motor function is crucial to the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. We recruited 118 cognitively unimpaired adults across an extended age range of 22-94 years to examine associations between rapid or usual gait speeds and cerebral myelin content. Using our advanced multicomponent magnetic resonance relaxometry method, we measured myelin water fraction (MWF), a direct measure of myelin content, as well as longitudinal and transverse relaxation rates (R1 and R2), sensitive but nonspecific magnetic resonance imaging measures of myelin content. After adjusting for covariates and excluding 22 data sets due to cognitive impairments or artifacts, our results indicate that participants with higher rapid gait speed exhibited higher MWF, R1, and R2 values, that is, higher myelin content. These associations were statistically significant within several white matter brain regions, particularly the frontal and parietal lobes, splenium, anterior corona radiata, and superior fronto-occipital and longitudinal fasciculus. In contrast, we did not find any significant associations between usual gait speed and MWF, R1, or R2, which suggests that rapid gait speed may be a more sensitive marker of demyelination than usual gait speed. These findings advance our understanding on the implication of myelination in gait impairment among cognitively unimpaired adults, providing further evidence of the interconnection between white matter integrity and motor function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Walking entails orchestration of the sensory, motor, balance, and coordination systems, and walking disability is a critical concern after stroke. How and to what extent these systems influence walking disability after stroke and recovery have not been comprehensively studied. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed patients with stroke in the Post-acute care-Cerebrovascular Diseases (PAC-CVD) program. We compared the characteristics of patient groups stratified by their ability to complete the 5-m walk test across various time points of rehabilitation. We then used stepwise linear regression to examine the degree to which each stroke characteristic and functional ability could predict patient gait performance. RESULTS Five hundred seventy-three patients were recruited, and their recovery of walking ability was defined by the timing of recovery in a 5-m walk test. The proportion of patients who could complete the 5-m walk test at admission, at 3 weeks of rehabilitation, at 6 weeks of rehabilitation, between 7 and 12 weeks of rehabilitation, and who could not complete the 5-m walk test after rehabilitation was 52.2%, 21.8%, 8.7%, 8.7%, and 8.6%, respectively. At postacute care discharge, patients who regained walking ability earlier had a higher chance of achieving higher levels of walking activity. Stepwise linear regression showed that Berg Balance Scale (BBS) (β: 0.011, p < .001), age (β: -0.005, p = .001), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) (6a + 6b; β: -0.042, p = .018), Mini-Nutritional assessment (MNA) (β: -0.007, p < .027), and Fugl-Meyer upper extremity assessment (FuglUE) (β: 0.002, p = .047) scores predicted patient's gait speed at discharge. CONCLUSION Balance, age, leg strength, nutritional status, and upper limb function before postacute care rehabilitation are predictors of walking performance after stroke.

Abstract
Background Gait speed is an important measure of functional ability. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with gait speed in patients with chronic kidney disease. The study focused on sarcopenic components, plasma uremic or inflammatory marker levels, and quality of life effects. Methods The RolE of AST120 (Renamezin) in sarCOpenia preVEntion in pRe-dialYsis chronic kidney disease patients is a 48-week, randomized controlled, parallel-group, open-label, multicenter trial to determine the role of Renamezin (Daewon Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.) in patients with chronic kidney disease. The participants were classified into four groups according to gait speed: ≤0.8, 0.8-1.0, ≤1.0-1.3, and ≥1.3 m/sec. Linear regression analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with gait speed. Results The group with a gait speed of ≤0.8 m/sec was the oldest and had the highest proportion of participants with low education level and medical aid. Participants with a gait speed of ≤0.8 m/sec showed the lowest physical and mental component scale scores. The interleukin-6 (IL-6) level tended to be the higher trend in the lowest gait speed group. In the multivariate linear regression analysis adjusted for age, sex, diabetes mellitus, and estimated glomerular filtration rate, insurance status, handgrip strength, IL-6 level, hemoglobin level, mental component scale score, and physical component scale score were significantly associated with gait speed. Conclusion In conclusion, gait speed is associated with handgrip strength, IL-6 level, and various components of quality of life in predialysis chronic kidney disease patients.
