Abstract
BACKGROUND Women's dissatisfaction with perinatal health care services is associated with poor postpartum outcomes for the mother and the baby. The Mackey Childbirth Satisfaction Rating Scale is a frequently used measure of women's childbirth satisfaction. However, its factor structure has been inconsistent across investigations. The goal of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the scale (i.e., factor structure and sources of validity evidence). METHODS This study is a descriptive prospective investigation. Participants included 106 pregnant women (mean age = 31.86, SD = 4.12) recruited from a public university hospital situated in South Madrid. Sources of construct validity of the Mackey were explored with the Women's View of Birth Labor Satisfaction Questionnaire. Sources of criterion validity were investigated with measures of pain (labor, delivery, and just after birth) and post-traumatic stress symptoms. RESULTS Minor adaptations in item distribution resulted in an adequate fit of the original six-factor solution of the Mackey scale (i.e., oneself, the partner, the baby, the nurse, the physician, and overall satisfaction). Sources of validity evidence supported the construct and criterion validity of the scale. CONCLUSIONS Obtaining a psychometrically and conceptually sound factor solution is fundamental when validating a scale. With the present study, researchers and clinicians (e.g., midwives) will be able to measure women's childbirth satisfaction in a more robust manner. Both antecedents and consequences of satisfaction were found to correlate with several satisfaction subscales, which might help guide prevention programs in mother care in a more efficient way.

Abstract
Plants face a wide range of biotic and abiotic stress conditions, which are further intensified by climate change. Among these stressors, increased irradiation in terms of intensity and wavelength range can lead to detrimental effects, such as chlorophyll degradation, destruction of the PSII reaction center, generation of ROS, alterations to plant metabolism, and even plant death. Here, we investigated the responses of two citrus genotypes, Citrus macrophylla (CM), and Troyer citrange (TC) to UV-B light-induced stress, by growing plants of both genotypes under control and UV-B stress conditions for 5 days to evaluate their tolerance mechanisms. TC seedlings had higher sensitivity to UV-B light than CM seedlings, as they showed more damage and increased levels of oxidative harm (indicated by the accumulation of MDA). In contrast, CM seedlings exhibited specific adaptive mechanisms, including accumulation of higher levels of proline under stressful conditions, and enhanced antioxidant capacity, as evidenced by increased ascorbate peroxidase activity and upregulation of the CsAPX2 gene. Phytohormone accumulation patterns were similar in both genotypes, with a decrease in ABA content in response to UV-B light. Furthermore, expression of genes involved in light perception and response was specifically affected in the tolerant CM seedlings, which exhibited higher expression of CsHYH/CsHY5 and CsRUP1-2 genes. These findings underscore the importance of the antioxidant system in citrus plants subjected to UV-B light-induced stress and suggest that CsHYH/CsHY5 and CsRUP1-2 could be considered genes associated with tolerance to such challenging conditions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The limited prior research examining the association between academic performance and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in youth did not explore the reciprocal association between these constructs, and analyzed CVD risk factors individually. Thus, the aim of the present study was to explore the bidirectional longitudinal association between clustered CVD risk score and academic performance in adolescents over a 24-month interval. METHODS A total of 237 adolescents (45.6% girls), aged 13.9 ± 0.3 years old at baseline, from DADOS (Deporte, ADOlescencia y Salud) study were included in this study. A clustered CVD risk score was created by calculating the mean age- and gender-standardized z-scores of waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio, triglycerides, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance, and cardiorespiratory fitness (inversed). Academic performance was assessed through the final academic grades and the test of educational abilities. RESULTS Our results showed that the clustered CVD risk score at baseline was not associated with academic performance 24 months later (all p > .05). Nevertheless, except for physical education, academic grades at baseline were inversely associated with clustered CVD risk score at follow-up in adolescents (β ranged from -0.140 to -0.102; all p < .05). No associations were found between academic abilities at baseline and clustered CVD risk score at follow-up (all p > .05). CONCLUSION Academic grades could help predict CVD risk 24 months later during adolescence. Education professionals should foster adolescents' academic performance not only to improve academic results but also to maximize future cardiovascular health benefits.

Abstract
An iridium-conjoined long and narrow metallorectangle was obtained by combining a quinoxalinophenanthrophenazine-connected Janus-di-imidazolylidene ligand and pyrazine. The size and shape of this assembly together with the fused polyaromatic nature of its panels provides it with properties that are uncommon for other metallosupramolecular assemblies. For example, this nanosized 'slit-like' metallobox is able show very large binding affinities with planar organic molecules in such a way, that the cavity is asymmetrically occupied by the guest molecule. This unsymmetrical conformation leads to the existence of a large amplitude motion of these guests, which slide between the two sides of the cavity of the host, thus constituting rare examples of molecular shuttles.

Abstract
Plants growing under natural conditions experience high light (HL) intensities that are often accompanied by elevated temperatures. These conditions could affect photosynthesis, reduce yield, and negatively impact agricultural productivity. The combination of different abiotic challenges creates a new type of stress for plants by generating complex environmental conditions that often exceed the impact of their individual parts. Transcription factors (TFs) play a key role in integrating the different molecular signals generated by multiple stress conditions, orchestrating the acclimation response of plants to stress. In this study, we show that the TF WRKY48 negatively controls the acclimation of Arabidopsis thaliana plants to a combination of HL and heat stress (HL + HS), and its expression is attenuated by jasmonic acid under HL + HS conditions. Using comparative physiological and transcriptomic analyses between wild-type and wrky48 mutants, we further demonstrate that under control conditions, WRKY48 represses the expression of a set of transcripts that are specifically required for the acclimation of plants to HL + HS, hence its suppression during the HL + HS stress combination contributes to plant survival under these conditions. Accordingly, mutants that lack WRKY48 are more resistant to HL + HS, and transgenic plants that overexpress WRKY48 are more sensitive to it. Taken together, our findings reveal that WRKY48 is a negative regulator of the transcriptomic response of Arabidopsis to HL + HS and provide new insights into the complex regulatory networks of plant acclimation to stress combination.

Abstract
Theoretical studies have identified cesium titanium bromide (Cs2TiBr6), a vacancy-ordered double perovskite, as a promising lead-free and earth-abundant candidate to replace Pb-based perovskites in photovoltaics. Our research is focused on overcoming the limitations associated with the current Cs2TiBr6 syntheses, which often involve high-vacuum and high-temperature evaporation techniques, high-energy milling, or intricate multistep solution processes conducted under an inert atmosphere, constraints that hinder industrial scalability. This study presents a straightforward, low-energy, and scalable solution procedure using microwave radiation to induce the formation of highly crystalline Cs2TiBr6 in a polar solvent. This methodology, where the choice of the solvent plays a crucial role, not only reduces the energy costs associated with perovskite production but also imparts exceptional stability to the resulting solid, in comparison with previous reports. This is a critical prerequisite for any technological advancement. The low-defective material demonstrates unprecedented structural stability under various stimuli such as moisture, oxygen, elevated temperatures (over 130 °C), and continuous exposure to white light illumination. In summary, our study represents an important step forward in the efficient and cost-effective synthesis of Cs2TiBr6, offering a compelling solution for the development of eco-friendly, earth-abundant Pb-free perovskite materials.

Abstract
Understanding affective perceptual processes can further contribute to the explanation of motivation and actions, as well as sexual risk behaviors. Pornography can be considered salient emotional content and is popular, also among females. Yet, the female perspective on pornography has often been overlooked and it remains unclear how individual variables may be associated with the affective perception of pornography and could provide a risk profile. Possible associations between several sexual and psychological intrapersonal variables and the affective perception of various forms of pornography were analyzed from the female perspective. A sample of 231 females (M = 21.87 years; SD = 3.9 years) provided ratings of affective valence, arousal, disgust, and moral and ethical acceptance for mainstream pornographic and paraphilic images of dominance, submission, or sexual violence. Paraphilic pornography was perceived as less pleasant, arousing, and moral and ethically acceptable, but more disgusting compared to mainstream pornography. This was more pronounced among females who had never consumed pornography. Results further suggest that the female affective perception of pornography was associated with the following sexual intrapersonal variables: sexual sensation seeking for physical sensations, erotophilia, lack of sexual control, problematic pornography consumption, and sexual disgust sensitivity. Of the assessed psychological intrapersonal variables, only anxiety was negatively associated with disgust for paraphilic pornography. It is important to further analyze the female affective perception of pornography and associated variables to include them in strategies for prevention and for addressing problematic consequences of the acceptance of specific sexual content and behaviors, especially related to sexualized violence.

Abstract
Macromolecular crowding is the usual condition of cells. The implications of the crowded cellular environment for protein stability and folding, protein-protein interactions, and intracellular transport drive a growing interest in quantifying the effects of crowding. While the properties of crowded solutions have been extensively studied, less attention has been paid to the interaction of crowders with the cellular boundaries, i.e., membranes. However, membranes are key components of cells and most subcellular organelles, playing a central role in regulating protein channel and receptor functions by recruiting and binding charged and neutral solutes. While membrane interactions with charged solutes are dominated by electrostatic forces, here we show that significant charge-induced forces also exist between membranes and neutral solutes. Using neutron reflectometry measurements and molecular dynamics simulations of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) polymers of different molecular weights near charged and neutral membranes, we demonstrate the roles of surface dielectrophoresis and counterion pressure in repelling PEG from charged membrane surfaces. The resulting depletion zone is expected to have consequences for drug design and delivery, the activity of proteins near membrane surfaces, and the transport of small molecules along the membrane surface.

What happens to the inhibitory control functions of the right inferior frontal cortex when this area is dominant for language? eLife 2024; 12:RP86797. Abstract
A low number of individuals show an atypical brain control of language functions that differs from the typical lateralization in the left cerebral hemisphere. In these cases, the neural distribution of other cognitive functions is not fully understood. Although there is a bias towards a mirrored brain organization consistent with the Causal hypothesis, some individuals are found to be exceptions to this rule. However, no study has focused on what happens to the homologous language areas in the right frontal inferior cortex. Using an fMRI-adapted stop-signal task in a healthy non right-handed sample (50 typically lateralized and 36 atypically lateralized for language production), our results show that atypical lateralization is associated with a mirrored brain organization of the inhibitory control network in the left hemisphere: inferior frontal cortex, presupplementary motor area, and subthalamic nucleus. However, the individual analyses revealed a large number of cases with a noteworthy overlap in the inferior frontal gyrus, which shared both inhibitory and language functions. Further analyses showed that atypical lateralization was associated with stronger functional interhemispheric connectivity and larger corpus callosum. Importantly, we did not find task performance differences as a function of lateralization, but there was an association between atypical dominance in the inferior frontal cortex and higher scores on schizotypy and autistic spectrum traits, as well as worse performance on a reading accuracy test. Together, these results partially support the Causal hypothesis of hemispheric specialization and provide further evidence of the link between atypical hemispheric lateralization and increased interhemispheric transfer through the corpus callosum.

Abstract
Brain-Computer Interfacing (BCI) has shown promise in Machine Learning (ML) for emotion recognition. Unfortunately, how data are partitioned in training/test splits is often overlooked, which makes it difficult to attribute research findings to actual modeling improvements or to partitioning issues. We introduce the "data transfer rate" construct (i.e., how much data of the test samples are seen during training) and use it to examine data partitioning effects under several conditions. As a use case, we consider emotion recognition in videos using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Three data splits are considered, each representing a relevant BCI task: subject-independent (affective decoding), video-independent (affective annotation), and time-based (feature extraction). Model performance may change significantly (ranging e.g. from 50% to 90%) depending on how data is partitioned, in classification accuracy. This was evidenced in all experimental conditions tested. Our results show that (1) for affective decoding, it is hard to achieve performance above the baseline case (random classification) unless some data of the test subjects are considered in the training partition; (2) for affective annotation, having data from the same subject in training and test partitions, even though they correspond to different videos, also increases performance; and (3) later signal segments are generally more discriminative, but it is the number of segments (data points) what matters the most. Our findings not only have implications in how brain data are managed, but also in how experimental conditions and results are reported.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sex differences in language-related abilities have been reported. It is generally assumed that these differences stem from a different organization of language in the brains of females and males. However, research in this area has been relatively scarce, methodologically heterogeneous and has yielded conflicting results. METHODS Univariate and multivariate sex differences and similarities in gray matter volume (GMVOL) within 18 essential language-processing brain areas were assessed in a sex-balanced sample (N = 588) of right-handed young adults. Univariate analyses involved location, spread, and shape comparisons of the females' and males' distributions and were conducted with several robust statistical methods able to quantify the size of sex differences and similarities in a complementary way. Multivariate sex differences and similarities were estimated by the same methods in the continuous scores provided by two distinct multivariate procedures (logistic regression and a multivariate analog of the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test). Additional analyses were addressed to compare the outcomes of these two multivariate analytical strategies and described their structure (that is, the relative contribution of each brain area to the multivariate effects). RESULTS When not adjusted for total intracranial volume (TIV) variation, "large" univariate sex differences (males > females) were found in all 18 brain areas considered. In contrast, "small" differences (females > males) in just two of these brain areas were found when controlling for TIV. The two multivariate methods tested provided very similar results. Multivariate sex differences surpassed univariate differences, yielding "large" differences indicative of larger volumes in males when calculated from raw GMVOL estimates. Conversely, when calculated from TIV-adjusted GMVOL, multivariate differences were "medium" and indicative of larger volumes in females. Despite their distinct size and direction, multivariate sex differences in raw and TIV-adjusted GMVOL shared a similar structure and allowed us to identify the components of the SENT_CORE network which more likely contribute to the observed effects. CONCLUSIONS Our results confirm and extend previous findings about univariate sex differences in language-processing areas, offering unprecedented evidence at the multivariate level. We also observed that the size and direction of these differences vary quite substantially depending on whether they are estimated from raw or TIV-adjusted GMVOL measurements.

Abstract
Biofilm accumulation, the appearance of white spot lesions and the development of secondary caries are the main complications in orthodontic patients. A promising approach to fight this situation is the development of adhesive cements with improved antibacterial properties. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possibility of improving the antibacterial properties of glass ionomer cements by incorporating different types of antimicrobial compounds without altering their physical and mechanical properties. Different concentrations of silver carbonate (SC) and an inorganic glass with encapsulated silver were added to the glass ionomer cement, as well as chitosan, to achieve synergistic antibacterial activity. Variations in the antibacterial capacity were evaluated using the agar diffusion test; the potential alteration of the physical and mechanical properties of the material was analyzed by the shear bond strength test. SEM characterization and colorimetric evaluation were also conducted. Samples of SC up to 1% and inorganic glass with encapsulated silver up to 5% showed significant improvement in their antibacterial ability without compromising shear strength. The highest antimicrobial activity was observed for Lactobacillus acidophilus, with inhibition zones of 3.8 and 3.1 mm for SC and inorganic glass, respectively. The characterization of the samples did not detect any major structural changes between the different samples. The only group that underwent a noticeable color change was the group with SC. The results show that the incorporation of silver carbonate and inorganic glass with encapsulated silver provided the glass ionomer cement with an antibacterial capacity without compromising the bond strength and without modifying the structure of the material.

Abstract
The combination of polymers and low molecular weight (LMW) compounds is a powerful approach to prepare new supramolecular materials. Here we prepare two-component hydrogels made by a well-known and biologically active polymer, hyaluronic acid (HA), and a dipeptide-based supramolecular gelator. We undertake a detailed study of materials with different compositions including macroscopic (hydrogel formation, rheology) and micro/nanoscopic characterization (electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction). We observe that the two components mutually benefit in the new materials: a minimum amount of HA helps to reduce the polymorphism of the LMW network leading to reproducible hydrogels with improved mechanical properties; the LMW component network holds HA without the need for an irreversible covalent crosslinking. These materials have a great potential for biomedical application as, for instance, extracellular matrix mimetics for cell growth. As a proof of concept, we have observed that this material is effective for cell growth in suspension and avoids cell sedimentation even in the presence of competing cell-adhesive surfaces. This may be of interest to advanced cell delivery techniques.

Validation of a Spanish Adaptation of the Gambling Symptom Assessment Scale (G-SAS) in Persons with Recent History of Gambling. J Gambl Stud 2023; 39:1505-1522. Abstract
Gambling is becoming increasingly frequent and problematic, especially due to the explosion of online alternatives. Evaluating the severity of gambling symptomatology is therefore more important than ever. However, innovations in the gambling field have generally focused on its treatment rather than its evaluation. The Gambling Symptom Assessment Scale (G-SAS) is a well-established measure of gambling-related symptomatology (e.g., gambling urges, gambling-related thoughts and behaviours, and interpersonal functioning). The aim of this study is to validate a Spanish adaptation of the G-SAS so that individual differences in gambling symptomatology can be assessed by clinicians and researchers. The internal structure of the G-SAS was investigated using an exploratory factor analysis with a sample of 364 individuals from the general population in Spain (mean age = 28.84 years, SD = 11.73; 54% males). A four-factor structure was preferred considering fit indices (Chi-square = 22.62, p = .162, RMSEA = 0.030, CFI = 0.998, TLI = 0.995) and internal consistency estimates (0.67 ≤ α ≤ 0.89). The factors were labelled gambling-related symptoms, control of gambling urges/thoughts, interference, and arousal. Regarding construct validity, the four factors of the G-SAS were positively and significantly (all p < .001) correlated with measures of problematic gambling severity (0.40 ≤ r ≤ .73), problematic gambling diagnostic (0.40 ≤ r ≤ .67), gambling cognitions (0.48 ≤ r ≤ .57), impulsivity (0.26 ≤ r ≤ .42), anxiety (0.22 ≤ r ≤ .38), and depression (0.16 ≤ r ≤ .42), and negatively with quality of life (-0.24 ≤ r≤-.42). In sum, this study provides Spanish clinicians and researchers with a tool that serves to assess the status of individuals in relation to gambling symptomatology, which can be used to screen for at-risk profiles and evaluate treatment response.

Abstract
We report the rhodium(I) complex [Rh(CNC-NDI)(CO)]+ , in which CNC-NDI refers to a pincer-CNC ligand decorated with a naphthalenediimide moiety. Due to the presence of the planar CNC ligand and the naphthalenediimide moiety, the electronic nature of the complex can be modulated by means of supramolecular and redox stimuli, respectively. The metal complex shows a strong π-π-stacking interaction with coronene. This interaction has an impact on the electron-richness of the metal, as demonstrated by the shifting of the ν(CO) stretching band to a lower frequency. The addition of tetrabutylammonium fluoride facilitates the sequential one- and two-electron reduction of the NDI moiety of the ligand, thus resulting in a situation in which the ligand can increase its electron-donor strength in two levels. The nature of the interaction with the fluoride anion was studied computationally. The catalytic activity of the [Rh(CNC-NDI)(CO)]+ complex was tested in the cycloisomerization of alkynoic acids, where it is observed that the activity of the catalyst can be modulated between four levels of activity, which correspond to i) the use of the unmodified catalyst, ii) catalyst+coronene, iii) catalyst+2 equivalents of fluoride, and iv) catalyst+5 equivalents of fluoride.

Abstract
Biocircularity could play a key role in the circular economy, particularly in applications where organic recycling (composting) has the potential to become a preferred waste management option, such as food packaging. The development of fully biobased and biodegradable composites could help reduce plastic waste and valorize agro-based residues. In this study, extruded films made of composites of polyhydroxybutyrate-co-valerate (PHBV) and lignocellulosic fibers, namely almond shell (AS) and Oryzite® (OR), a polymer hybrid composite precursor, have been investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed a weak fiber-matrix interfacial interaction, although OR composites present a better distribution of the fiber and a virtually lower presence of "pull-out". Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the presence of fibers reduced the onset and maximum degradation temperatures of PHBV, with a greater reduction observed with higher fiber content. The addition of fibers also affected the melting behavior and crystallinity of PHBV, particularly with OR addition, showing a decrease in crystallinity, melting, and crystallization temperatures as fiber content increased. The mechanical behavior of composites varied with fiber type and concentration. While the incorporation of AS results in a reduction in all mechanical parameters, the addition of OR leads to a slight improvement in elongation at break. The addition of fibers improved the thermoformability of PHBV. In the case of AS, the improvement in the processing window was achieved at lower fiber contents, while in the case of OR, the improvement was observed at a fiber content of 20%. Biodisintegration tests showed that the presence of fibers promoted the degradation of the composites, with higher fiber concentrations leading to faster degradation. Indeed, the time of complete biodisintegration was reduced by approximately 30% in the composites with 20% and 30% AS.

Abstract
The rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria caused by the excessive use of antibiotics has led to the urgent exploration of alternative antimicrobial solutions. Among these alternatives, antimicrobial proteins, and peptides (Apps) have garnered attention due to their wide-ranging antimicrobial effects. This study focuses on evaluating the antimicrobial properties of Solanum lycopersicum heme-binding protein 2 (SlHBP2), an apoplastic protein extracted from tomato plants treated with 1-Methyl tryptophan (1-MT), against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (Pst). Computational studies indicate that SlHBP2 is annotated as a SOUL heme-binding family protein. Remarkably, recombinant SlHBP2 demonstrated significant efficacy in inhibiting the growth of Pst within a concentration range of 3-25 μg/mL. Moreover, SlHBP2 exhibited potent antimicrobial effects against other microorganisms, including Xanthomonas vesicatoria (Xv), Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm), and Botrytis cinerea. To understand the mechanism of action employed by SlHBP2 against Pst, various techniques such as microscopy and fluorescence assays were employed. The results revealed that SlHBP2 disrupts the bacterial cell wall and causes leakage of intracellular contents. To summarize, the findings suggest that SlHBP2 has significant antimicrobial properties, making it a potential antimicrobial agent against a wide range of pathogens. Although further studies are warranted to explore the full potential of SlHBP2 and its suitability in various applications.

Abstract
Sleep problems and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are interrelated during childhood and preadolescence. The objective of this work is assessing if sleep problems at ages 8-9 represent an alarm sign for presenting ADHD problems at ages 10-11 in three cohorts from INMA Study. Participants were 1244 children from Gipuzkoa, Sabadell, and Valencia cohorts. Sleep problems were assessed (ages 8-9) with the sleep items of the Child's Behaviour Checklist (CBCL), and ADHD problems were collected through the Conner's Parent Rating Scales-Revised: Short Form (CPRS-R:S) (age 10-11). Minimally and fully adjusted negative binomial models were fitted for each CPRS-R:S scale. Linearity of the relationship was assessed with generalized additive models (cubic smoothing splines with 2, 3, and 4 knots). For sensitivity analyses, children with previous symptoms, those born preterm and small for gestational age, and cases with extreme values, were excluded. Sleep problems presented IRR (95% CI) of 1.14 (1.10-1.19), 1.20 (1.14-1.26), 1.18 (1.11-1.25), and 1.18 (1.13-1.23) for opposition, inattention, hyperactivity, and ADHD scales, respectively. Fully adjusted models slightly decreased the IRR, but the association remained similar and significant. Sensitivity analyses showed similar results to fully adjusted models with only hyperactivity shown a slight decrease on significance (p = 0.051) when ADHD cases at age 9 were excluded. Conclusion: Sleep problems are an alarm sign for later neurodevelopment problems such as ADHD. Healthcare systems could take advantage implementing policies to pay special attention on the sleep habits and sleep hygiene. This could contribute to add evidence to public health programmes such as the Healthy Child Programme.

Abstract
Mesolimbic dopamine (DA) regulates vigor in motivated behavior. While previous results have mainly been performed in male rodents, the present studies compared CD1 male and female mice in effort-based decision-making tests of motivation. These tests offered choices between several reinforcers that require different levels of effort (progressive ratio/choice task and 3-choice-T-maze task). Sweet reinforcers were used in both tasks. In the operant tasks, females worked harder as the task required more effort to access a 10% sucrose solution. Although males and females did not differ in preference for 10% vs 3% solutions under free concurrent presentation, females consumed more of the 10% solution when tested alone. The operant task requires a long period of training and changes in the DA system due to age can be mediating long-term changes in effort. Thus, age and sex factors were evaluated in the T-maze task, which requires only a short training period. Both sexes and ages were equally active when habituated to the running wheel (RW), but females consumed more sweet pellets than males, especially at an older age. Both sexes had a strong preference for the RW compared to more sedentary reinforcers in the 3-choice-T-maze test, but older animals spent less time running and ate more than the young ones. The DA-depleting agent tetrabenazine reduced time running in older mice but not in adolescents. Cerebral-dopamine-neurotrophic-factor was reduced in older mice of both sexes compared to adolescent mice. These results emphasize the importance of taking into account differences in sex and age when evaluating willingness to exert effort for specific reinforcers.

Abstract
Cathepsin L (CatL) is a lysosomal cysteine protease whose activity has been related to several human pathologies. However, although preclinical trials using CatL inhibitors were promising, clinical trials have been unsuccessful up to now. We are presenting a study of two designed dipeptidyl keto Michael acceptor potential inhibitors of CatL with either a keto vinyl ester or a keto vinyl sulfone (KVS) warhead. The compounds were synthesized and experimentally assayed in vitro, and their inhibition molecular mechanism was explored based on molecular dynamics simulations at the density functional theory/molecular mechanics level. The results confirm that both compounds inhibit CatL in the nanomolar range and show a time-dependent inhibition. Interestingly, despite both presenting almost equivalent equilibrium constants for the reversible formation of the noncovalent enzyme/inhibitor complex, differences are observed in the chemical step corresponding to the enzyme-inhibitor covalent bond formation, results that are mirrored by the computer simulations. Theoretically determined kinetic and thermodynamic results, which are in very good agreement with the experiments, afford a detailed explanation of the relevance of the different structural features of both compounds having a significant impact on enzyme inhibition. The unprecedented binding interactions of both inhibitors in the P1' site of CatL represent valuable information for the design of inhibitors. In particular, the peptidyl KVS can be used as a starting lead compound in the development of drugs with medical applications for the treatment of cancerous pathologies since sulfone warheads have previously shown promising cell stability compared to other functions such as carboxylic esters. Future improvements can be guided by the atomistic description of the enzyme-inhibitor interactions established along the inhibition reaction derived from computer simulations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of physical activity (PA) and physical fitness (PF) on self-confidence and interpersonal relations in adolescents is uncertain. AIM To analyzed the associations of PA and PF with self-confidence and interpersonal relations in adolescents. SAMPLE A total of 268 (138 boys) adolescents (13.9 ± 0.3 years) from the DADOS study were included in the analysis. METHODS PA was evaluated using GENEActiv accelerometers and the health-related PF components by the ALPHA health-related fitness test battery. The levels of self-confidence and interpersonal relations were determined by the Behavior Assessment System for Children Level 3. RESULTS The associations of PA levels and PF components with self-confidence reported positive associations of moderate-vigorous PA (MVPA), standing long jump, and 20-m shuttle run (shuttle run test) tests (all p < 0.05), and negative association of 4 × 10-m shuttle run test (4 × 10-m test), but only the 4 × 10-m test remained significant in the adjusted model for the whole sample and only in boys (p ≤ 0.01) when analyzed by sex. Regarding interpersonal relations, positive associations of standing long jump and shuttle run test (all p < 0.05), and negative association of 4 × 10-m test were found in all the adolescents. The shuttle run test was associated with interpersonal relations in boys independently of confounders. PA levels were not associated with interpersonal relations. CONCLUSION A higher level of lower-limb muscle strength, speed-agility, and cardiorespiratory fitness might improve self-confidence and interpersonal relations in adolescents, but these relationships seem to be influenced by sex, body mass index, and pubertal status. Speed-agility and cardiorespiratory fitness seem to have a stronger impact on boys. MVPA may improve self-confidence in adolescents.

Abstract
In the present work, the bond breaking/forming events along the intramolecular Diels-Alder (IMDA) reaction of (2E,4Z,6Z)-2(allyloxy)cycloocta-2,4,6-trien-1-one have been revealed within bonding evolution theory (BET) at the density functional theory level, using the M05-2X functional with the cc-pVTZ basis set. Prior to achieving this task, the energy profiles and stationary points at the potential energy surface (PES) have been characterized. The analysis of the results finds that this rearrangement can proceed along three alternative reaction pathways (a-c). Paths a and b involve two steps, while path c is a one-step process. The first step in path b is kinetically favored, and leads to the formation of an intermediate step, Int-b. Further evolution from Int-b leads mainly to 3-b1. However, 2 is the thermodynamically preferred product and is obtained at high temperatures, in agreement with the experimental observations. Regarding the BET analysis along path b, the breaking/forming process is described by four structural stability domains (SSDs) during the first step, which can be summarized as follows: (1) the breaking of the C-O bond with the transfer of its population to the lone pair (V(O)), (2) the reorganization of the electron density with the creation of two V(C) basins, and (3) the formation of a new C-C single bond via the merger of the two previous V(C) basins. Finally, the conversion of Int-b (via TS2-b1) occurs via the reorganization of the electron density during the first stage (the creation of different pseudoradical centers on the carbon atoms as a result of the depopulation of the C-C double bond involved in the formation of new single bonds), while the last stage corresponds to the non-concerted formation of the two new C-C bonds via the disappearance of the population of the four pseudoradical centers formed in the previous stage. On the other hand, along path a, the first step displays three SSDs, associated with the depopulation of the V(C2,C3) and V(C6,C7) basins, the appearance of the new monosynaptic basins V(C2) and V(C7), and finally the merging of these new monosynaptic basins through the creation of the C2-C7 single bond. The second step is described by a series of five SSDs, that account for the reorganization of the electron density within Int-a via the creation of four pseudoradical centers on the C12, C13, C3 and C6 carbon atoms. The last two SSDs deal with the formation of two C-C bonds via the merging of the monosynaptic basins formed in the previous domains.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hand kinematics during hand function tests based on the performance of activities of daily living (ADLs) can provide objective data to determine patients' functional loss. However, they are rarely used during clinical assessments because of their long duration. Starting with the 20 Sollerman Hand Function Test (SHFT) tasks, we propose identifying a reduced set of ADLs that provides similar kinematic information to the original full set in terms of synergies, ranges of motion and velocities. METHODS We followed an iterative method with the kinematics of 16 hand joints while performing the 20 ADLs of the SHFT. For each subject, ADLs were ordered according to their influence on the synergies obtained by means of a principal component analysis, the minimum number of ADLs that represented the original kinematic synergies (maximum angle of 30° between synergies), and the maintained ranges of joint movements (85% of the original ones) were selected for each subject. The set of the most frequently selected ADLs was verified to be representative of the SHFT ADLs in terms of motion strategies, ranges of motion and joint velocities when considering healthy subjects and Hand Osteoarthritis patients. RESULTS A set of 10 tasks, the BE-UJI activity set, was identified by ensuring a certain (minimum) similarity in synergy (maximum mean angle between synergies of 25.5°), functional joint ranges (maximum differences of 10°) and joint velocities (maximum differences of 15°/s). The obtained tasks were: pick up coins from purses, lift wooden cubes, pick up nuts and turn them, write with a pen, cut with a knife, lift a telephone, unscrew jar lids and pour water from a cup, a jar and a Pure-Pak. These activities guarantee using the seven commonest handgrips in ADLs. CONCLUSION The BE-UJI activity set for the hand function assessment can be used to obtain quantitative data in clinics as an alternative to the SHFT. It reduces the test time and allows clinicians to obtain objective kinematic data of the motor strategies, ranges of motion and joint velocities used by patients.

Abstract
This work aims to: (1) Provide maximal hand force data on six different grasp types for healthy subjects; (2) detect grasp types with maximal force significantly affected by hand osteoarthritis (HOA) in women; (3) look for predictors to detect HOA from the maximal forces using discriminant analyses. Thirty-three healthy subjects (37 ± 17 years, 17 women, 16 men) and 30 HOA patients (72 ± 9 years, all women) participated in the experiment. Participants were asked to exert their maximal force while performing six different grasp types 3 times. Two MANOVAs were conducted to detect if force depended on gender in healthy participants and if force significantly diminished in women with HOA. Finally, a linear discriminant analysis for detecting HOA was performed using forces of the grasp types that were significantly affected by HOA. Gender-disaggregated statistics are provided for healthy participants. Significant differences are obtained for all grasp types per gender. The women with HOA exerted significantly lower force values (p < 0.001) for all the grasp types than healthy ones. The discriminant analysis revealed that oblique grasp was the most significant one for detecting HOA. A discrimination equation was obtained with a specificity of 88.2% and a sensitivity of 83.3%. This work provides grip force data on six grasp types for healthy participants and for women with HOA. HOA women present reduced strength in all grasps due to pathology. Three of these grasps are a novelty. Oblique grasp strength may suffice to discriminate a patient with HOA, which might help non-invasive HOA detection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Plants growing in the field are subjected to combinations of abiotic stresses. These conditions pose a devastating threat to crops, decreasing their yield and causing a negative economic impact on agricultural production. Metabolic responses play a key role in plant acclimation to stress and natural variation for these metabolic changes could be key for plant adaptation to fluctuating environmental conditions. RESULTS Here we studied the metabolomic response of two Arabidopsis ecotypes (Columbia-0 [Col] and Landsberg erecta-0 [Ler]), widely used as genetic background for Arabidopsis mutant collections, subjected to the combination of high salinity and increased irradiance. Our findings demonstrate that this stress combination results in a specific metabolic response, different than that of the individual stresses. Although both ecotypes displayed reduced growth and quantum yield of photosystem II, as well as increased foliar damage and malondialdehyde accumulation, different mechanisms to tolerate the stress combination were observed. These included a relocation of amino acids and sugars to act as potential osmoprotectants, and the accumulation of different stress-protective compounds such as polyamines or secondary metabolites. CONCLUSIONS Our findings reflect an initial identification of metabolic pathways that differentially change under stress combination that could be considered in studies of stress combination of Arabidopsis mutants that include Col or Ler as genetic backgrounds.

Abstract
1 H NMR studies using a cationic complex with a pyridine-di-imidazolylidene pincer ligand of formula [Rh(CNC)(CO)]+ revealed that this compound showed high binding affinity with coronene in CH2 Cl2 . The interaction between coronene and the planar RhI complex is established by means of π-stacking interactions. This interaction has a strong impact on the electron-donating strength of the pincer CNC ligand, which is increased significantly, as demonstrated by the shifting of the ν(CO) stretching bands to lower frequencies. The addition of coronene increases the reaction rate of the nucleophilic attack of methyl iodide on the rhodium (I) pincer complex, and also has a positive effect on the performance of the complex as a catalyst in the cycloisomerization of 4-pentynoic acid. These findings highlight the importance of supramolecular interactions for tuning the reactivity and catalytic activity of square-planar metal complexes.

Abstract
Coupled colloidal quantum dot molecules (CQDMs) are an emerging class of nanomaterials, manifesting two coupled emission centers and thus introducing additional degrees of freedom for designing quantum-dot-based technologies. The properties of multiply excited states in these CQDMs are crucial to their performance as quantum light emitters, but they cannot be fully resolved by existing spectroscopic techniques. Here we study the characteristics of biexcitonic species, which represent a rich landscape of different configurations essentially categorized as either segregated or localized biexciton states. To this end, we introduce an extension of Heralded Spectroscopy to resolve the different biexciton species in the prototypical CdSe/CdS CQDM system. By comparing CQDMs with single quantum dots and with nonfused quantum dot pairs, we uncover the coexistence and interplay of two distinct biexciton species: A fast-decaying, strongly interacting biexciton species, analogous to biexcitons in single quantum dots, and a long-lived, weakly interacting species corresponding to two nearly independent excitons. The two biexciton types are consistent with numerical simulations, assigning the strongly interacting species to two excitons localized at one side of the quantum dot molecule and the weakly interacting species to excitons segregated to the two quantum dot molecule sides. This deeper understanding of multiply excited states in coupled quantum dot molecules can support the rational design of tunable single- or multiple-photon quantum emitters.

Abstract
The envelope (E) protein is a small polypeptide that can form ion channels in coronaviruses. In SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the agent that caused the recent COVID-19 pandemic, and its predecessor SARS-CoV-1, E protein is found in the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC), where virion budding takes place. Several reports claim that E protein promotes the formation of "cation-selective channels". However, whether this term represents specificity to certain ions (e.g., potassium or calcium) or the partial or total exclusion of anions is debatable. Herein, we discuss this claim based on the available data for SARS-CoV-1 and -2 E and on new experiments performed using the untagged full-length E protein from SARS-CoV-2 in planar lipid membranes of different types, including those that closely mimic the ERGIC membrane composition. We provide evidence that the selectivity of the E-induced channels is very mild and depends strongly on lipid environment. Thus, despite past and recent claims, we found no indication that the E protein forms cation-selective channels that prevent anion transport, and even less that E protein forms bona fide specific calcium channels. In fact, the E channel maintains its multi-ionic non-specific neutral character even in concentrated solutions of Ca2+ ions. Also, in contrast to previous studies, we found no evidence that SARS-CoV-2 E channel activation requires a particular voltage, high calcium concentrations or low pH, in agreement with available data from SARS-CoV-1 E. In addition, sedimentation velocity experiments suggest that the E channel population is mostly pentameric, but very dynamic and probably heterogeneous, consistent with the broad distribution of conductance values typically found in electrophysiological experiments. The latter has been explained by the presence of proteolipidic channel structures.

Abstract
Copper-based hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts are promising materials to scale-up hydrogen production due to their reported high current densities; however, electrode durability remains a challenge. Here, we report a facile, cost-effective, and scalable synthetic route to produce Cu2-xS electrocatalysts, exhibiting hydrogen evolution rates that increase for ∼1 month of operation. Our Cu2-xS electrodes reach a state-of-the-art performance of ∼400 mA cm-2 at -1 V vs RHE under mild conditions (pH 8.6), with almost 100% Faradaic efficiency for hydrogen evolution. The rise in current density was found to scale with the electrode electrochemically active surface area. The increased performance of our Cu2-xS electrodes correlates with a decrease in the Tafel slope, while analyses by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, operando X-ray diffraction, and in situ spectroelectrochemistry cooperatively revealed the Cu-centered nature of the catalytically active species. These results allowed us to increase fundamental understanding of heterogeneous electrocatalyst transformation and consequent structure-activity relationship. This facile synthesis of highly durable and efficient Cu2-xS electrocatalysts enables the development of competitive electrodes for hydrogen evolution under mild pH conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a disorder twice as common in women than in men. There are sex differences in the symptomatology and treatment response to this disorder. Impairments in behavioral activation (i.e. anergia, fatigue) are often seen in people with depression and are highly resistant to treatment. The role of mesolimbic dopamine (DA) in regulating behavioral activation has been extensively studied in male rodents, but little is known in female rodents. OBJECTIVE The present studies assessed potential sex differences in rodent paradigms used to study different components of depressive-like behavior, and in the treatment response to antidepressants with different mechanisms of action. METHODS Male and female CD1 mice received Tetrabenazine (TBZ), a VMAT-2 blocker that depletes DA and induces depressive symptoms in humans. Mice were tested on the Forced Swim Test, (FST), the Dark-Light box (DL), the elevated plus maze (EPM), Social Interaction (SI) test, and sucrose preference and consumption using the two bottles test. In addition, bupropion (a DA reuptake inhibitor) or fluoxetine (a serotonin reuptake inhibitor) were used to reverse TBZ-induced anergia. RESULTS In the FST, bupropion reversed TBZ effects in both sexes but fluoxetine was only effective in female mice. DA depletion did not affect other aspects of depression such as anxiety, sociability or sucrose consumption, and there was no interaction with bupropion on these parameters. In TBZ treated-females SERT-blockers may be effective at reversing anergia in aversive contexts (FST), and potentiating avoidance of anxiogenic stimuli. CONCLUSIONS Pro-dopaminergic antidepressants seem more efficacious at improving anergia in both sexes than SERT-blockers.

Abstract
Direct air capture and integrated conversion is a very attractive strategy to reduce CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. However, the existing capturing processes are technologically challenging due to the costs of the processes and the low concentration of CO2. The efficient valorization of the CO2 captured could help overcome many techno-economic limitations. Here, we present a novel economical methodology for direct air capture and conversion that is able to efficiently convert CO2 from the air into cyclic carbonates. The new approach employs commercially available basic ionic liquids, works without the need for sophisticated and expensive co-catalysts or sorbents and under mild reaction conditions. The CO2 from atmospheric air was efficiently captured by IL solution (0.98 molCO2/molIL) and, subsequently, completely converted into cyclic carbonates using epoxides or halohydrins potentially derived from biomass as substrates. A mechanism of conversion was evaluated, which helped to identify relevant reaction intermediates based on halohydrins, and consequently, a 100% selectivity was obtained using the new methodology.

Abstract
Background Computerized training in persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) seems to enhance working memory (WM)/information processing (IP), but factors associated with the efficacy of the treatment have not been sufficiently explored. Objective: To identify clinical and radiological characteristics associated with positive WM/IP training responses. Methods Radiological and neuropsychological assessments were carried out on a sample of 35 PwMs who were divided into "WM/IP-impaired" and "WM/IP-preserved." All participants underwent adaptive n-back training for 10 days and were assessed post-training. Between-group differences ("WM/IP-impaired" vs. "WM/IP-preserved") in training-induced cognitive improvement were assessed and exploratory correlational/ regression-based methods were employed to assess the relationship between cognitive improvement and clinical and radiological variables. Results All PwMS exhibited WM/IP benefits after training, but those with preserved WM/IP functions showed greater positive effects as well as transfer effects to other WM/IP tests when compared to the impaired group. Additional analyses revealed that positive response to treatment was associated with WM/IP baseline capabilities and greater gray matter volume (GMVOL) in relevant areas such as the thalamus. Conclusions Restorative cognitive training is suitable to improve cognition in PwMS but its effective outcome differs depending on the baseline WM/IP capabilities and GMVOL.

Abstract
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an illness with increasing prevalence, particularly in emerging countries, which can have a substantial impact on the quality of life of the patient. The illness is rather heterogeneous with different evolution among patients. A machine learning approach is followed in this paper to identify potential genes that are related to IBD. This is done by following a Monte Carlo simulation approach. In total, 23 different machine learning techniques were tested (in addition to a base level obtained using artificial neural networks). The best model identified 74 genes selected by the algorithm as being potentially involved in IBD. IBD seems to be a polygenic illness, in which environmental factors might play an important role. Following a machine learning approach, it was possible to obtain a classification accuracy of 84.2% differentiating between patients with IBD and control cases in a large cohort of 2490 total cases. The sensitivity and specificity of the model were 82.6% and 84.4%, respectively. It was also possible to distinguish between the two main types of IBD: (1) Crohn's disease and (2) ulcerative colitis.

Abstract
Background The Social Emotional Distress Scale-Secondary (SEDS-S) is a short measure designed for comprehensive school-based mental health screening, particularly for using very brief self-reported measures of well-being and distress. Whereas prior studies have shown validity and reliability evidence for the English version, there is a lack of literature about its psychometric properties for Spanish-speaking youths. Objective To examine the psychometric properties of the SEDS-S in a large sample of Spanish adolescents, providing evidence of its reliability, structure, convergent and discriminant validity, longitudinal and gender measurement invariance, and normative data. Methods Participants were 5550 adolescents aged 12-18 years old. Test-retest reliability was examined using Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients, and evidence for convergent and discriminant validity was measured using Pearson's correlation. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to examine structure validity, while multigroup and longitudinal measurement invariance analysis was conducted for longitudinal and gender latent structure stability. Results The CFA supported a unidimensional latent structure, which was also observed to be invariant between gender groups and over time. The scale showed evidence of reliability, with coefficients above .85. In addition, the SEDS-S score was positively related to measures assessing distress and negatively related to measures assessing well-being, thereby providing convergent/discriminant validity of the total scores. Conclusion This study provides the first evidence of the reliability and validity of the Spanish version of the SEDS-S for assessing emotional distress among adolescents, cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Furthermore, findings indicated that SEDS-S could be a suitable assessment tool for screening and program evaluation purposes at different contexts beyond the school setting.

Abstract
Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) has gained attention as a possible substitute for conventional polymers that could be integrated into the organic recycling system. Biocomposites with 15% of pure cellulose (TC) and woodflour (WF) were prepared to analyze the role of lignin on their compostability (58 °C) by tracking the mass loss, CO2 evolution, and the microbial population. Realistic dimensions for typical plastic products (400 µm films), as well as their service performance (thermal stability, rheology), were taken into account in this hybrid study. WF showed lower adhesion with the polymer than TC and favored PHBV thermal degradation during processing, also affecting its rheological behavior. Although all materials disintegrated in 45 days and mineralized in less than 60 days, lignin from woodflour was found to slow down the bioassimilation of PHBV/WF by limiting the access of enzymes and water to easier degradable cellulose and polymer matrix. According to the highest and the lowest weight loss rates, TC incorporation allowed for higher mesophilic bacterial and fungal counts, while WF seemed to hinder fungal growth. At the initial steps, fungi and yeasts seem to be key factors in facilitating the later metabolization of the materials by bacteria.

Abstract
Nucleus incertus (NI) neurons in the pontine tegmentum give rise to ascending forebrain projections and express the neuropeptide relaxin-3 (RLN3) which acts via the relaxin-family peptide 3 receptor (RXFP3). Activity in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex can be driven from the medial septum (MS), and the NI projects to all these centers, where a prominent pattern of activity is theta rhythm, which is related to spatial memory processing. Therefore, we examined the degree of collateralization of NI projections to the MS and the medial temporal lobe (MTL), comprising medial and lateral entorhinal cortex (MEnt, LEnt) and dentate gyrus (DG), and the ability of the MS to drive entorhinal theta in the adult rat. We injected fluorogold and cholera toxin-B into the MS septum and either MEnt, LEnt or DG, to determine the percentage of retrogradely labeled neurons in the NI projecting to both or single targets, and the relative proportion of these neurons that were RLN3-positive ( +). The projection to the MS was threefold stronger than that to the MTL. Moreover, a majority of NI neurons projected independently to either MS or the MTL. However, RLN3 + neurons collateralize significantly more than RLN3-negative (-) neurons. In in vivo studies, electrical stimulation of the NI induced theta activity in the MS and the entorhinal cortex, which was impaired by intraseptal infusion of an RXFP3 antagonist, R3(BΔ23-27)R/I5, particularly at ~ 20 min post-injection. These findings suggest that the MS plays an important relay function in the NI-induced generation of theta within the entorhinal cortex.

Abstract
Introduction The septal area provides a rich innervation to the hippocampus regulating hippocampal excitability to different behavioral states and modulating theta rhythmogenesis. However, little is known about the neurodevelopmental consequences of its alterations during postnatal development. The activity of the septohippocampal system is driven and/or modulated by ascending inputs, including those arising from the nucleus incertus (NI), many of which contain the neuropeptide, relaxin-3 (RLN3). Methods We examined at the molecular and cellular level the ontogeny of RLN3 innervation of the septal area in postnatal rat brains. Results Up until P13-15 there were only scattered fibers in the septal area, but a dense plexus had appeared by P17 that was extended and consolidated throughout the septal complex by P20. There was a decrease in the level of colocalization of RLN3 and synaptophysin between P15 and P20 that was reversed between P20 and adulthood. Biotinylated 3-kD dextran amine injections into the septum, revealed retrograde labeling present in the brainstem at P10-P13, but a decrease in anterograde fibers in the NI between P10-20. Simultaneously, a differentiation process began during P10-17, resulting in fewer NI neurons double-labeled for serotonin and RLN3. Discussion The onset of the RLN3 innervation of the septum complex between P17-20 is correlated with the onset of hippocampal theta rhythm and several learning processes associated with hippocampal function. Together, these data highlight the relevance and need for further analysis of this stage for normal and pathological septohippocampal development.

Cysteine proteases (CPs) are an important class of enzymes, many of which are responsible for several human diseases. For instance, cruzain of protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi is responsible for the Chagas disease, while the role of human cathepsin L is associated with some cancers or is a potential target for the treatment of COVID-19. However, despite paramount work carried out during the past years, the compounds that have been proposed so far show limited inhibitory action against these enzymes. We present a study of proposed covalent inhibitors of these two CPs, cruzain and cathepsin L, based on the design, synthesis, kinetic measurements, and QM/MM computational simulations on dipeptidyl nitroalkene compounds. The experimentally determined inhibition data, together with the analysis and the predicted inhibition constants derived from the free energy landscape of the full inhibition process, allowed describing the impact of the recognition part of these compounds and, in particular, the modifications on the P2 site. The designed compounds and, in particular, the one with a bulky group (Trp) at the P2 site show promising in vitro inhibition activities against cruzain and cathepsin L for use as a starting lead compound in the development of drugs with medical applications for the treatment of human diseases and future designs.

Abstract
Introduction Addictive drugs are potent neuropharmacological agents capable of inducing long-lasting changes in learning and memory neurocircuitry. With repeated use, contexts and cues associated with consumption can acquire motivational and reinforcing properties of abused drugs, triggering drug craving and relapse. Neuroplasticity underlying drug-induced memories takes place in prefrontal-limbic-striatal networks. Recent evidence suggests that the cerebellum is also involved in the circuitry responsible for drug-induced conditioning. In rodents, preference for cocaine-associated olfactory cues has been shown to correlate with increased activity at the apical part of the granular cell layer in the posterior vermis (lobules VIII and IX). It is important to determine if the cerebellum's role in drug conditioning is a general phenomenon or is limited to a particular sensory modality. Methods The present study evaluated the role of the posterior cerebellum (lobules VIII and IX), together with the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), ventral tegmental area (VTA), and nucleus accumbens (NAc) using a cocaine-induced conditioned place preference procedure with tactile cues. Cocaine CPP was tested using ascending (3, 6, 12, and 24 mg/kg) doses of cocaine in mice. Results Compared to control groups (Unpaired and Saline animals), Paired mice were able to show a preference for the cues associated with cocaine. Increased activation (cFos expression) of the posterior cerebellum was found in cocaine CPP groups and showed a positive correlation with CPP levels. Such increases in cFos activity in the posterior cerebellum significantly correlated with cFos expression in the mPFC. Discussion Our data suggest that the dorsal region of the cerebellum could be an important part of the network that mediates cocaine-conditioned behavior.

Abstract
One of the most prominent characteristics of psychopathy is a reduced processing of emotionally relevant information. However, it is still unclear how attentional mechanisms may modulate this deficit. The current study aimed to examine the impact of attentional focus on emotion processing in relation to the triarchic constructs of boldness, meanness, and disinhibition. Participants performed two tasks in which pleasant, neutral, and unpleasant framed pictures were presented. In the first task, participants were required to indicate the color of the frame (alternative-focus task), whereas in the second task they were instructed to indicate the emotional category of the image (affect-focus task). The Late Positive Potential (LPP) was used as an index of sustained engagement of attention to affective material. Confirming a successful task manipulation, we observed reduced LPP amplitudes, particularly for affective relevant material, in the alternative-focus task compared to the affect-focus task. Most interestingly, our results evidenced that trait meanness scores were associated with blunted elaborative processing of affective material (both appetitive and aversive) when this information was task-relevant (affect-focus task), but not when it was task-irrelevant (alternative-focus task). These findings indicate that high mean individuals are characterized by blunted elaborative processing of affective stimuli when their motivational relevance is determined in a top-down manner (i.e., when it is task-relevant). Our results highlight the need for further studying of the bottom-up and top-down dynamics of emotional attention in psychopathy.

Abstract
Mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) have gained increasing interest during the last decades, not only because of their aesthetic appeal, but also because their unique properties have allowed them to find applications in nanotechnology, catalysis, chemosensing and biomedicine. Herein we describe how a pyrene molecule with four octynyl substituents can be easily encapsulated within the cavity of a tetragold(I) rectangle-like metallobox, by template formation of the metallo-assembly in the presence of the guest. The resulting assembly behaves as a mechanically interlocked molecule (MIM), in which the four long limbs of the guest protrude from the entrances of the metallobox, thus locking the guest inside the cavity of the metallobox. The new assembly resembles a metallo-suit[4]ane, given the number of protruding long limbs and the presence of the metal atoms in the host molecule. However, unlike normal MIMs, this molecule can release the tetra-substituted pyrene guest by the addition of coronene, which can smoothly replace the guest in the cavity of the metallobox. Combined experimental and computational studies allowed the role of the coronene molecule in facilitating the release of the tetrasubstituted pyrene guest to be explained, through a process that we named "shoehorning", as the coronene compresses the flexible limbs of the guest so that it can reduce its size to slide in and out the metallobox.

Abstract
The early and objective detection of hand pathologies is a field that still requires more research. One of the main signs of hand osteoarthritis (HOA) is joint degeneration, which causes loss of strength, among other symptoms. HOA is usually diagnosed with imaging and radiography, but the disease is in an advanced stage when HOA is observable by these methods. Some authors suggest that muscle tissue changes seem to occur before joint degeneration. We propose recording muscular activity to look for indicators of these changes that might help in early diagnosis. Muscular activity is often measured using electromyography (EMG), which consists of recording electrical muscle activity. The aim of this study is to study whether different EMG characteristics (zero crossing, wavelength, mean absolute value, muscle activity) via collection of forearm and hand EMG signals are feasible alternatives to the existing methods of detecting HOA patients' hand function. We used surface EMG to measure the electrical activity of the dominant hand's forearm muscles with 22 healthy subjects and 20 HOA patients performing maximum force during six representative grasp types (the most commonly used in ADLs). The EMG characteristics were used to identify discriminant functions to detect HOA. The results show that forearm muscles are significantly affected by HOA in EMG terms, with very high success rates (between 93.3% and 100%) in the discriminant analyses, which suggest that EMG can be used as a preliminary step towards confirmation with current HOA diagnostic techniques. Digit flexors during cylindrical grasp, thumb muscles during oblique palmar grasp, and wrist extensors and radial deviators during the intermediate power-precision grasp are good candidates to help detect HOA.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has emerged as an unprecedented global healthcare emergency, demanding the urgent development of effective materials to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This research was planned to disclose the remarkable biocidal activity of SiO2-Ag composites incorporated into low-density polyethylene. For this purpose, a joint experimental and theoretical [based on first-principles calculations at the density functional theory (DFT) level] study is performed. Biological assays showed that this material eliminatesStaphylococcus aureusand SARS-CoV-2 virus in just 2 min. Here, we investigate a previously unexplored process that we postulate may occur along the O2 and H2O adsorption and activation processes of pure and defective SiO2-Ag surfaces for the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The obtained results help us to predict the nature of ROS: superoxide anion radicals, •O2-, hydroxyl radicals, •OH, and hydroperoxyl radicals, •HO2, that destroy and degrade the structure of the SARS-COV-2 virus. This is consistent with the DFT studies, where the energetic, electronic, and magnetic properties of the intermediates show a feasible formation of ROS. Present findings are expected to provide new insights into the relationship among the structure, property, and biocidal activity of semiconductor/metal SiO2-Ag composites.

Abstract
Two different metallotweezers, each with two pyrene-imidazolylidene-gold(I) arms, were used as hosts for a series of planar aromatic guests. The metallotweezer with a dibenzoacridinebis(alkynyl) spacer (1) orients the two pyrene-imidazolylidene-gold(I) arms in a parallel disposition, with an interpanel distance of about 7 Å. The second metallotweezer (2) contains a carbazolylbis(alkynyl) spacer that directs the two pyrene panels in a diverging orientation. Determination of the association constants via 1H NMR titrations demonstrates that the binding strength shown by 1 is significantly larger than that found by 2, with binding affinities as large as 104 M-1 (in CDCl3), for the encapsulation of N,N'-dimethylnaphthalenetetracarboxydiimide with 1. The differences in the binding affinities are due to binding models associated with formation of the related host-guest complexes. While 1 operates via a "lock and key" model, in which the host does not suffer distortions upon formation of the inclusion complex, 2 operates via a guest-induced fit model. The large association constants shown by 1 with two planar guests were used for promotion of the template-directed synthesis of 1, which in the absence of an external template is produced in an equimolecular mixture with its self-aggregated congener, clippane [12]. This observation strongly suggests that the mechanically interlocked clippane is formed through a self-template-directed mechanism, while bonds are broken/formed during the synthetic protocol.

Abstract
We propose a methodology for the quantitative fitting and forecasting of real spatio-temporal crime data, based on stochastic differential equations. The analysis is focused on the city of Valencia, Spain, for which 90247 robberies and thefts with their latitude-longitude positions are available for a span of eleven years (2010-2020) from records of the 112-emergency phone. The incidents are placed in the 26 zip codes of the city (46001-46026), and monthly time series of crime are built for each of the zip codes. Their annual-trend components are modeled by Itô diffusion, with jointly correlated noises to account for district-level relations. In practice, this study may help simulate spatio-temporal situations and identify risky areas and periods from present and past data.

Abstract
We develop and calibrate stochastic continuous models that capture crime dynamics in the city of Valencia, Spain. From the emergency phone, data corresponding to three crime events, aggressions, stealing and women alarms, are available from the year 2010 until 2020. As the resulting time series, with monthly counts, are highly noisy, we decompose them into trend and seasonality parts. The former is modeled by geometric Brownian motions, both uncorrelated and correlated, and the latter is accommodated by randomly perturbed sine-cosine waves. Albeit simple, the models exhibit high ability to simulate the real data and show promising for crimes-interaction identification and short-term predictive policing.

Abstract
Problem solving is a core element in mathematical learning. The reversal error in problem solving occurs when students are able to recognize the information in the statement of comparison word problems, but they reverse the relationship between two variables when building the equations. Functional magnetic resonance images were acquired to identify for the first time the neural bases associated with the reversal error. The neuronal bases linked to this error have been used as inputs in 13 classifiers to discriminate between reversal error and non-reversal error groups. We found brain activation in bilateral fronto-parietal areas in the participants who committed reversal errors, and only left fronto-parietal activation in those who did not, suggesting that the reversal error group needed a greater cognitive demand. Instead, the non-reversal error group seems to show that they have developed solid algebraic knowledge. Additionally, the results showed brain activation in the right middle temporal gyrus when comparing the reversal error vs non-reversal error groups. This activation would be associated with the semantic processing which is required to understand the statement and build the equation. Finally, the classifier results show that the brain areas activated could be considered good biomarkers to help us identify competent solvers.

Abstract
Although nanoplastics have well-known toxic effects toward the environment and living organisms, their molecular toxicity mechanisms, including the nature of nanoparticle-cell membrane interactions, are still under investigation. Here, we employ dynamic light scattering, quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring, and electrophysiology to investigate the interaction between polystyrene nanoparticles (PS NPs) and phospholipid membranes. Our results show that PS NPs adsorb onto lipid bilayers creating soft inhomogeneous films that include disordered defects. PS NPs form an integral part of the generated channels so that the surface functionalization and charge of the NP determine the pore conductive properties. The large difference in size between the NP diameter and the lipid bilayer thickness (∼60 vs ∼5 nm) suggests a particular and complex lipid-NP assembly that is able to maintain overall membrane integrity. In view of this, we suggest that NP-induced toxicity in cells could operate in more subtle ways than membrane disintegration, such as inducing lipid reorganization and transmembrane ionic fluxes that disrupt the membrane potential.

Abstract
Up-to-date studies propose that strain in halide perovskites is one of the key factors that determine a device's efficiency and stability. Here, we show a systematic approach to characterize the phenomenon in the standard methylammonium lead iodine (MAPbI3) perovskite system by: (i) the substitution of some MA by guanidinium (Gu); (ii) the incorporation of PbS quantum dot (QD) additives and (iii) addition of both Gu and PbS at the same time. We studied the effect of these incorporations on the film strain and crystal cell unit volume, and on the solar cell device efficiency and stability. Gu cations and PbS QDs affect the strain, the former due to the relatively large dimensions of Gu, and the latter due to the lattice matching parameters. With the control of Gu and PbS QD content, higher performance and longer solar cell stability are obtained. We demonstrated that the presence of Gu and PbS QDs alters the structure of perovskite, in terms of modification of the unit cell volume and strain. The greater size of Gu cations produces a MAPbI3 unit cell volume expansion as Gu is incorporated, modifying the strain from compressive to tensile. PbS QDs aid Gu incorporation, producing a unit cell volume expansion. In the case of 15% mol Gu incorporation, the addition of PbS QDs modifies strain from compressive to tensile, limiting the deleterious effect. At the same time the unit cell volume is less affected, increasing the solar cell stability. Our work shows that the control of compressive strain and the unit cell volume expansion lead to a 50% increase in T 80, the time in which the PCE decreases to 80% of its original value, increasing the T 80 value from 120 to 187 days under air conditions. Moreover it highlights the importance of exploiting not only the control of the strain induced by internal component, the cation, but also the strain induced by the external component, the QD, associated instead with critical volume variation of metastable perovskite unit cell volume.
