Abstract
PURPOSE Human herpesviruses, particularly cytomegalovirus (CMV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV), frequently reactivate in critically ill patients, including those with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The clinical interpretation of pulmonary herpesvirus reactivation is challenging and there is ongoing debate about its association with mortality and benefit of antiviral medication. We aimed to quantify the incidence and pathogenicity of pulmonary CMV and HSV reactivations in critically ill COVID-19 patients. METHODS Mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients seropositive for CMV or HSV were included in this observational cohort study. Diagnostic bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage was performed routinely and analyzed for alveolar viral loads and inflammatory biomarkers. Utilizing joint modeling, we explored the dynamic association between viral load trajectories over time and mortality. We explored alveolar inflammatory biomarker dynamics between reactivated and non-reactivated patients. RESULTS Pulmonary reactivation (> 104 copies/ml) of CMV occurred in 6% of CMV-seropositive patients (9/156), and pulmonary reactivation of HSV in 37% of HSV-seropositive patients (63/172). HSV viral load dynamics prior to or without antiviral treatment were associated with increased 90-day mortality (hazard ratio [HR] 1.24, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.04-1.47). The alveolar concentration of several inflammatory biomarkers increased with HSV reactivation, including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). CONCLUSION In mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients, HSV reactivations are common, while CMV reactivations were rare. HSV viral load dynamics prior to or without antiviral treatment are associated with mortality. Alveolar inflammation is elevated after HSV reactivation.

Abstract
We evaluated glycemia and triglyceride, hepatic, muscular, and renal damage markers, redox profile, and leptin and ghrelin hormone levels in COVID-19 patients. We also conducted statistical analysis to verify the potential of biomarkers to predict poor prognosis and the correlation between them in severe cases. We assessed glycemia and the levels of triglycerides, hepatic, muscular, and renal markers in automatized biochemical analyzer. The leptin and ghrelin hormones were assessed by the ELISA assay. Severe cases presented high glycemia and triglyceride levels. Hepatic, muscular, and renal biomarkers were altered in severe patients. Oxidative stress status was found in severe COVID-19 patients. Severe cases also had increased levels of leptin. The ROC curves indicated many biomarkers as poor prognosis predictors in severe cases. The Spearman analysis showed that biomarkers correlate between themselves. Patients with COVID-19 showed significant dysregulation in the levels of several peripheral biomarkers. We bring to light that a robust panel of peripheral biomarkers and hormones predict poor prognosis in severe cases of COVID-19 and biomarkers correlate with each other. Early monitoring of these biomarkers may lead to appropriate clinical interventions in patients infected by SARS-CoV2.

Abstract
The Qingfei Paidu decoction (QFPDD) is a widely acclaimed therapeutic formula employed nationwide for the clinical management of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). QFPDD exerts a synergistic therapeutic effect, characterized by its multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway action. However, the intricate interactions among the ingredients and targets within QFPDD and their systematic effects in multiple tissues remain undetermined. To address this, we qualitatively characterized the chemical components of QFPDD. We integrated multi-tissue transcriptomic analysis with GraphDTA, a deep learning model, to screen for potential compound-target interactions of QFPDD in multiple tissues. We predicted 13 key active compounds, 127 potential targets and 27 pathways associated with QFPDD across six different tissues. Notably, oleanolic acid-AXL exhibited leading affinity in the heart, blood, and liver. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation confirmed their strong binding affinity. The robust interaction between oleanolic acid and the AXL receptor suggests that AXL is a promising target for developing clinical intervention strategies. Through the construction of a multi-tissue compound-target interaction network, our study further elucidated the mechanisms through which QFPDD effectively combats COVID-19 in multiple tissues. Our work also establishes a framework for future investigations into the systemic effects of other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulas in disease treatment.

Abstract
As a key enzyme of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a validated receptor for SARS-CoV-2, linking RAS to COVID-19. Functional ACE1/ACE2 gene polymorphisms likely cause an imbalance in the ACE1/ACE2 ratio, triggering RAS imbalance and may contribute to COVID-19 complications. This study aimed to investigate four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of ACE1 and ACE2 genes, three for ACE1 (rs4343, rs4342, rs4341) and one for ACE2 (rs2285666), in patients with COVID-19 among the Palestinian population. A total of 130 blood samples were collected, including 50 negative controls without COVID-19 infection, 50 cases with COVID-19 infection but not hospitalized, and 30 patients with severe COVID-19 infection hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Fragments of the ACE1 and ACE2 genes, including the targeted SNPs, were amplified using multiplex PCR and subsequently genotyped by next-generation sequencing with specific virtual probes. Our results revealed that ACE2 rs2285666 GG genotype carriers were more prevalent in COVID-19 patients compared to the control group (P=0.049), while no statistical differences were observed in the distribution of ACE1 (rs4343, rs4342, rs4341) variants between COVID-19 patients and the control group. GA carriers of ACE2, rs2285666, among cases and ICU groups were at lower risk of getting COVID-19 infection (P=0.002 and P=0.013, respectively), and they were unlikely to develop fatigue (P=0.043), headache (P=0.007), loss of smell (P=0.028), and dyspnea (P=0.005). Age and comorbidities such as hypertension and coronary artery disease (CAD) were independent risk factors for COVID-19 disease. Symptoms of COVID-19 patients such as fatigue, headaches, runny noses, and loss of smell were significantly higher in non-hospitalized cases of COVID-19, while dyspnea was more frequent in the ICU patients. In conclusion, these findings indicate that the ACE2 rs2285666 GG genotype is associated with an increased risk of COVID-19 infection. This association suggests a potential genetic predisposition linked to the ACE2 gene, which may influence the susceptibility and severity of the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To systematically describe clinical characteristics and investigate factors associated with COVID-19-related infection, hospital admission, and IgG4-related disease relapse in IgG4-RD patients. METHODS Physician-reported IgG4-RD patients were included in this retrospective study. Using multivariable logistic regression analysis to determine factors for primary outcome (COVID-19-related IgG4-RD relapse) and secondary outcome (COVID-19-related infection and hospital admission). Covariates included age, sex, body mass index, smoking status, comorbidities, IgG4-RD clinical features, and treatment strategies. RESULTS Among 649 patients, 530 had a diagnosis of COVID-19, 25 had COVID-19-related hospital admission, and 69 had COVID-19-related IgG4-RD relapse. Independent factors associated with COVID-19 infection were age (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.96-1.00), body mass index (1.10, 1.03-1.18), and tofacitinib (0.34, 0.14-0.79). Further analysis indicated that age (1.10, 1.03-1.16), coronary heart disease (24.38, 3.33-178.33), COVID-19-related dyspnea (7.11, 1.85-27.34), pulmonary infection (73.63, 16.22-4615.34), and methotrexate (17.15, 1.93-157.79) were associated with a higher risk of COVID-19-related hospital admission. Importantly, age (0.93, 0.89-0.98), male sex (0.16, 0.03-0.80), ever/current smoking (19.23, 3.78-97.80), COVID-19-related headache (2.98, 1.09-8.17) and psychiatric symptoms (3.12, 1.07-9.10), disease activity before COVID-19 (1.89, 1.02-3.51), number of involved organs (1.38, 1.08-1.76), glucocorticoid dosage (1.08, 1.03-1.13), and methotrexate (5.56, 1.40-22.08) were strong factors for COVID-19-related IgG4-RD relapse. CONCLUSIONS Our data add to evidence that smoking and disease-specific factors (disease activity, number of involved organs, and specific medications) were risk factors of COVID-19-related IgG4-RD relapse. The results highlight the importance of adequate disease control with b/tsDMARDs, preferably without using methotrexate and increasing glucocorticoid dosages in the COVID-19 era. Key Points • COVID-19-related infection or hospital admission were associated with known general factors (age, body mass index, specific comorbidities and methotrexate) among IgG4-RD patients. • Smoking and disease-specific factors (disease activity, number of involved organs and specific medications) were associated with higher odds of COVID-19-related IgG4-RD relapse. • The results highlight the importance of adequate disease control with b/tsDMARDs, preferably without using methotrexate or increasing glucocorticoid dosages.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ubiquitin regulatory X (UBX) domain-containing proteins (UBXNs) are putative adaptors for ubiquitin ligases and valosin-containing protein; however, their in vivo physiological functions remain poorly characterised. We recently showed that UBXN3B is essential for activating innate immunity to DNA viruses and controlling DNA/RNA virus infection. Herein, we investigate its role in adaptive immunity. METHODS We evaluated the antibody responses to multiple viruses and pathogenesis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza in tamoxifen-inducible global and constitutive B cell-specific Ubxn3b knockout mice; quantified various immune populations, B lineage progenitors/precursors, B cell receptor (BCR) signalling and apoptosis by flow cytometry, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy. We also performed bone marrow transfer, single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing. FINDINGS Both global and B cell-specific Ubxn3b knockout mice present a marked reduction in small precursor B-II (>60%), immature (>70%) and mature B (>95%) cell numbers. Transfer of wildtype bone marrow to irradiated global Ubxn3b knockouts restores normal B lymphopoiesis, while reverse transplantation does not. The mature B population shrinks rapidly with apoptosis and higher pro and activated caspase-3 protein levels were observed following induction of Ubxn3b knockout. Mechanistically, Ubxn3b deficiency leads to impaired pre-BCR signalling and cell cycle arrest. Ubxn3b knockout mice are highly vulnerable to respiratory viruses, with increased viral loads and prolonged immunopathology in the lung, and reduced production of virus-specific IgM/IgG. INTERPRETATION UBXN3B is essential for B lymphopoiesis by maintaining constitutive pre-BCR signalling and cell survival in a cell-intrinsic manner. Abstract
BACKGROUND Spontaneous pneumothorax in COVID-19 occurs infrequently but in up to 15% of patients dependent on mechanical ventilation (MV). Pneumothorax-related deaths account for 1% of all COVID-19-related deaths. AIM To determine factors associated with pneumothorax in COVID-19 patients and the effect of pneumothorax on early survival. METHODS This was a retrospective study of 4799 COVID-19-positive hospitalized patients. The groups were homogenized using propensity score matching (PSM) in two groups comprising 67 COVID-19 patients each. The prevalence of pneumothorax was determined. Multiple logistic regression was used to determine factors associated with pneumothorax. P value < 0.05 was taken as significant. RESULTS The prevalence of pneumothorax in COVID-19 patients was 1.6%. Lung disease, comorbidities, and oxygen support, which were significantly different between the two groups before PSM, were homogenized after PSM. In a univariate analysis, symptom duration (P ˂ 0.001), neutrophilia (P ˂ 0.001), lymphopenia (P ˂ 0.001), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (P = 0.003), ferritin levels (P = 0.012), D-dimer levels (P = 0.011), MV support (P ˂ 0.001), antibiotherapy (P ˂ 0.001), length of hospital stay (P = 0.009), and death (P = 0.002) differed significantly between the groups. Pneumothorax had a significant negative effect on survival (32.8% vs. 59.7%, P = 0.01). In a multivariate regression model, factors associated with pneumothorax were duration of symptoms (Adjusted Odds ratio (AOR) 1.68; 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.26-2.25; P = 0.001), mechanical ventilation (AOR 23.92; 95% CI: 4.12-138.72; P = <0.001), dual antibiotics (AOR 8.28; 95% CI: 1.56-43.86; P = 0.013), neutrophilia (AOR: 1.08; 95% CI: 1.02-1.14; P = 0.011), and lymphopenia (AOR: 0.92; 95% CI: 0.86-0.90; P = 0.022). CONCLUSION The presence of pneumothorax was associated with poor survival in COVID-19 patients. Patients with a prolonged time from symptom onset to treatment and those dependent on mechanical ventilation in intensive care were in the high risk group for the development of pneumothorax.

Abstract
COVID-19 infection typically presents with various symptoms encompassing fever, cough, and shortness of breath, with occasional reports of less common manifestations such as dizziness and persistent hiccups. Herein, we present a distinctive case wherein refractory hiccups constituted the exclusive complaint, persisting despite standard therapeutic interventions and serving as a misleading sole presentation for COVID-19 infection that, unfortunately, was complicated by septic shock and patient demise. This case prompts contemplation regarding the potential impact of hiccups on the prognosis of COVID-19. It also underscores the imperative nature of recognizing and considering atypical and uncommon presentations, as these may carry significant and even more severe consequences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Spontaneous pneumothorax (PTX) is more prevalent among COVID-19 patients than other critically ill patients, but studies on this are limited. This study compared clinical characteristics and in-hospital outcomes among COVID-19 patients with concomitant PTX to provide insight into how PTX affects health care utilization and complications, which informs clinical decisions and healthcare resource allocation. METHODS The 2020 Nationwide Inpatient Sample was used analyze patient demographics and outcomes, including age, race, sex, insurance status, median income, length of hospital stay, mortality rate, hospitalization costs, comorbidities, mechanical ventilation, and vasopressor support. Propensity score matching was employed for additional analysis. RESULTS Among 1,572,815 COVID-19 patients, 1.41% had PTX. These patients incurred significantly higher hospitalization costs ($435,508 vs. $96,668, p < 0.001) and longer stays (23.6 days vs. 8.6 days, p < 0.001). In-hospital mortality was substantially elevated for PTX patients (65.8% vs. 14.4%, p < 0.001), with an adjusted odds ratio of 14.3 (95% CI 12.7-16.2). Additionally, these patients were more likely to require vasopressors (16.6% vs. 3.3%), mechanical circulatory support (3.5% vs. 0.3%), hemodialysis (16.6% vs. 5.6%), invasive mechanical ventilation (76.9% vs. 15.1%), non-invasive mechanical ventilation (19.1% vs. 5.8%), tracheostomy (13.3% vs. 1.1%), and chest tube placement (59.8% vs. 0.8%). CONCLUSIONS Our findings highlight the severe impact of PTX on COVID-19 patients, characterized by higher mortality, more complications, and increased resource utilization. Also, being Hispanic, male, or obese increased the risk of developing concomitant PTX with COVID-19.

Abstract
COVID-19 commonly manifests with respiratory symptoms but is reported to involve other organs including the skin. This is a case of a 58-year-old male diagnosed with mild COVID-19 infection via reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) nasopharyngeal swab (NPS). He initially presented with symptoms of fever, cough, colds, sore throat, anosmia, ageusia, myalgia, and diarrhea. Maculopapular cutaneous lesions appeared on the extremities on the 3rd day of illness and were described as pruritic and blanching. The patient was managed conservatively with oral hydration and vitamin supplementation. During home isolation, symptoms were monitored via telemedicine. He recovered and was asymptomatic 36 days from the onset of symptoms. During the early part of the pandemic, further diagnostic testing was challenging due to the restrictions that were implemented. However, careful history, modified physical examination, and monitoring through teleconsultation proved to be very useful. Documenting the course and outcome of COVID-19 patients with skin manifestations would help facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment, as well as anticipate the possible prognosis of patients who present with a similar clinical pattern.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Following the World Health Organization's declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic, several countries implemented population-wide lockdowns. However, these responses to COVID-19 caused severe healthcare system disruptions to service delivery. The TB case notification rate in Uganda decreased by 22% between January and April 2020, which coincided with a lockdown and an increase in COVID-19 cases. In this study, we tested the effect of screening all patients with both COVID-19-positive and negative symptom screen for TB at a National Referral Hospital. DESIGN/METHODS Following our formative assessment, we identified potential barriers to and facilitators of integrating screening for COVID-19 and TB at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital. To address the barriers, in February 2021 we trained healthcare providers on integrated COVID-19-TB screening tools and provided COVID-19/TB screening tools/Standard operating procedures and personal protective equipment. From March 1, 2021, to June 30, 2021, we screened patients presenting to the emergency and outpatient departments for COVID-19 symptoms, and subsequently, we performed TB symptom screening for both patients with COVID-19 positive and negative symptom screen using the intensified tuberculosis case-finding (ICF) guide. We then compared the outcomes of TB symptom screening for patients initially with a positive COVID-19 symptom screen with those who initially had a negative COVID-19 symptom screen. RESULTS From March 2021 to June 2021, we screened 1464 patients (44.3% male and 55.7% female) for COVID-19 symptoms. Out of these participants, 1252 (85.5%) screened positive for COVID-19 symptoms, while 212 (14.5%) screened negative. The majority of patients with a positive COVID-19 symptom screen, 717 (57.3%), also screened positive for TB symptoms compared to 19 (8.9%) among patients with a negative COVID-19 symptom screen. Out of the total 736 presumptive TB cases identified, 717 (97.4%) initially screened positive for COVID-19 symptoms. TB was diagnosed in 110 individuals including 104 who had positive COVID-19-symptom screen and six who had a negative COVID-19 symptom screen. All of the 110 newly diagnosed TB cases were linked to TB treatment. CONCLUSIONS Patients who screen positive for COVID-19 symptoms should be routinely screened for TB to mitigate missed opportunities for TB case identification.

Abstract
Since December 2019, a new form of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) has emerged worldwide, caused by SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This disease was called COVID-19 and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020. Symptoms can vary from a common cold to severe pneumonia, hypoxemia, respiratory distress, and death. During this period of world stress, the medical and scientific community were able to acquire information and generate scientific data at unprecedented speed, to better understand the disease and facilitate vaccines and therapeutics development. Notably, bioinformatics tools were instrumental in decoding the viral genome and identifying critical targets for COVID-19 diagnosis and therapeutics. Through the integration of omics data, bioinformatics has also improved our understanding of disease pathogenesis and virus-host interactions, facilitating the development of targeted treatments and vaccines. Furthermore, molecular biology techniques have accelerated the design of sensitive diagnostic tests and the characterization of immune responses, paving the way for precision medicine approaches in treating COVID-19. Our analysis highlights the indispensable contributions of bioinformatics and molecular biology to the global effort against COVID-19. In this review, we aim to revise the COVID-19 features, diagnostic, prevention, treatment options, and how molecular biology, modern bioinformatic tools, and collaborations have helped combat this pandemic. An integrative literature review was performed, searching articles on several sites, including PUBMED and Google Scholar indexed in referenced databases, prioritizing articles from the last 3 years. The lessons learned from this COVID-19 pandemic will place the world in a much better position to respond to future pandemics.

Abstract
With the rapid development of immunotherapy in recent years, cytokine storm has been recognized as a common adverse effect of immunotherapy. The emergence of COVID-19 has renewed global attention to it. The cytokine storm's inflammatory response results in infiltration of large amounts of monocytes/macrophages in the lungs, heart, spleen, lymph nodes, and kidneys. This infiltration leads to secondary tissue damage, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), organismal damage, and even death. However, there is currently no designated treatment for cytokine storm and the resulting ARDS. Consequently, there is a pressing need to identify a pharmaceutical agent that can effectively mitigate cytokine storms. Ebosin is a new exopolysaccharide generated by Streptomyces sp.139 and pharmacological activity for cytokine storm is investigated in vivo. The results show that Ebosin significantly augments the survival rates of mice, and its effectiveness increases with higher doses. It significantly inhibited the expression of cytokines IL-5, IL-6, IL-9 and chemokine Eotaxin in serum and lung tissues. Ebosin can alleviate the pathological damage in the lungs, liver, and spleen caused by LPS. Additionally, it can inhibit the phosphorylation of IKKα/β, Stat3 and NF-κB p65 upon LPS stimulation in vitro. We hypothesized that Ebosin may decrease cytokine release by inhibiting the phosphorylation of IKKα/β, Stat3, and NF-κB p65, neutrophil infiltration in animals. The article preliminarily elucidated the activity and mechanism of Ebosin against cytokine storm, which provides a reference for the study of anti-cytokine storm activity of microbial natural products.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increased body weight is common among university students; transitioning from high school to university may increase perceived stress levels, thus changing dietary habits and metabolism to promote overweight or obesity. The current study investigates the association between stress and dietary habits among university students in Jordan. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among 221 university students aged between 20 and 25 at Applied Science Private University [ASU]. A self-reported questionnaire was distributed to university students. The questionnaires were divided into three sections: the first was about general characteristics, body weight, change in body weight, and stress eating. RESULT The survey of 208 participants showed that 64.3% were females, and 84.2% of students lived with their families. Results showed that more than half [51.1%] of the respondents were dissatisfied with their eating habits. Females [57.7%] monitored their food intake more than males did. However, most males [77.2%] reported less eating during stress compared to females. In addition, the data analysis revealed that those who ate more were less likely to monitor their food intake [χ 2 =9.734, df = 1, P = .002] or quantity [χ 2 =16.704, df = 1, P < .001]. Only 20.8% of the participants preferred sports or hobbies as a stress reduction activity; 29.4% took showers, while 51.1% ignored what made them stressed. Finally, 56.3% of participants reported increased weight after starting university, and it was significantly correlated with stress eating while studying for exams [χ 2 =8.762, df = 2, P = .013]. Stress affects university students and can lead to unhealthy eating habits and health issues like obesity. CONCLUSION Many students face stress during their academic years, which affects their dietary choices. Policies promoting healthy eating habits and stress-reducing activities are important for university students.

Abstract
Background The emergence of coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19) appears to be having an impact on antibiotic resistance patterns. Specific circumstances during the COVID-19 era may have played a role in the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This study aimed to look at the changes in AMR patterns of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Acinetobacter baumannii at Al-Zahra Hospital. Materials and Methods From March 2021 to January 2023, 3651 clinical samples were collected from patients hospitalized at Isfahan's Al-Zahra Hospital. The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute recommended procedures for detecting gram-negative bacteria and assessing antibiotic susceptibility were used. We divided the information into three years. Results Highest resistance rates were seen in A. baumannii to Ciprofloxacin (98.0%) and Ampicillin-Sulbactam (97.0%). For P. aeruginosa the resistance rate for Ceftazidime (36.1), Levofloxacin (37.8), and Meropenem (47.1) dropped seriously in 2022. Conclusion During the second year of the pandemic in central Iran, all three species studied showed rising rates of AMR. This can be attributable to two peaks within Iran on May 6, 2021 and August 27, 2021. The results of this study show that P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, and A. baumannii bacteria in central Iran have a higher level of antibiotic resistance than previously studied strains before the pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is highly contagious and causes a series of health problems, particularly in Yemen, which has a fragile healthcare system and cannot handle public health emergencies. AIMS This analysis aimed to determine the epidemiological status of COVID-19 in the Taiz governorate between April 2020 and December 2023. METHODS A retrospective study based on surveillance data from the Taiz governorate was used. The required data were gathered from the Ministry of Health and Population in Aden and analyzed using SPSS. RESULTS Out of 5826 suspected of COVID-19 cases, 1933 (33.18%) cases were positive for COVID-19 infection. The high rates of COVID-19 cases were reported at 35.40% in males, 37.80% in people aged 35-44 years, 47.20% in 2020, 72.73% in Dhubab district, and 27.78% in March 2021. The overall incidence rate of cases was reported at 6.2 per 10,000 people in Taiz governorate (8.85 in males and 3.80 in females). In addition, the high incidence rate of COVID-19 was observed among age groups ≥ 65 years, in 2021, and in Al-Mukha districts. In total, the rate of fatality cases was 14.12%, the higher rate of fatality cases was 15.46% among males and 32.23% among individuals aged ≥ 65 years, and 26.97% in 2020. CONCLUSION In this finding, the incidence rate of COVID-19 is high. It is necessary to increase the public's awareness of the transmission and prevention methods of COVID-19, as well as implement appropriate strategies to protect populations from infectious diseases.

Abstract
The growth of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) highlights an urgent need to identify bacterial pathogenic functions that may be targets for clinical intervention. Although severe infections profoundly alter host metabolism, prior studies have largely ignored microbial metabolism in this context. Here, we describe an iterative, comparative metabolomics pipeline to uncover microbial metabolic features in the complex setting of a host and apply it to investigate gram-negative bloodstream infection (BSI) in patients. We find elevated levels of bacterially derived acetylated polyamines during BSI and discover the enzyme responsible for their production (SpeG). Blocking SpeG activity reduces bacterial proliferation and slows pathogenesis. Reduction of SpeG activity also enhances bacterial membrane permeability and increases intracellular antibiotic accumulation, allowing us to overcome AMR in culture and in vivo. This study highlights how tools to study pathogen metabolism in the natural context of infection can reveal and prioritize therapeutic strategies for addressing challenging infections.

Abstract
In severe COVID-19 cases, an exacerbated inflammatory response triggers a cytokine storm that can worsen the prognosis. Compounds with both antiviral and anti-inflammatory activities show promise as candidates for COVID-19 therapy, as they potentially act against the SARS-CoV-2 infection regardless of the disease stage. One of the most attractive drug targets among coronaviruses is the main protease (MPro). This enzyme is crucial for cleaving polyproteins into non-structural proteins required for viral replication. The aim of this review was to identify SARS-CoV-2 MPro inhibitors with both antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. The interactions of the compounds within the SARS-CoV-2 MPro binding site were analyzed through molecular docking when data from crystallographic structures were unavailable. 18 compounds were selected and classified into five different superclasses. Five of them exhibit high potency against MPro: GC-376, baicalein, naringenin, heparin, and carmofur, with IC50 values below 0.2 μM. The MPro inhibitors selected have the potential to alleviate lung edema and decrease cytokine release. These molecules mainly target three critical inflammatory pathways: NF-κB, JAK/STAT, and MAPK, all previously associated with COVID-19 pathogenesis. The structures of the compounds occupy the S1/S2 substrate binding subsite of the MPro. They interact with residues from the catalytic dyad (His41 and Cys145) and/or with the oxyanion hole (Gly143, Ser144, and Cys145), which are pivotal for substrate recognition. The MPro SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors with potential anti-inflammatory activities present here could be optimized for maximum efficacy and safety and be explored as potential treatment of both mild and severe COVID-19.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Identifying clinical factors that increase the risk of mortality in COVID-19 patients is crucial. This enables targeted screening, optimizing treatment, and prevention of severe complications, ultimately reducing death rates. This study aimed to develop prediction models for the death of patients (i.e., survival or death) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Shiraz, exploring the main influencing factors. METHOD We conducted a retrospective cohort study using hospital-based records of 1030 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19, who were hospitalized for treatment between March 21, 2021, and March 21, 2022, in Shiraz, Iran. Variables related to the final outcome were selected based on criteria and univariate logistic regression. Hierarchical multiple logistic regression and classification and regression tree (CART) models were utilized to explore the relationships between potential influencing factors and the final outcome. Additionally, methods were employed to identify the high-risk population for increased mortality rates during COVID-19. Finally, accuracy was evaluated the performance of the models, with the area under the receiver operator characteristic curve(AUC), sensitivity, and specificity metrics. RESULTS In this study, 558 (54.2%) individuals infected with COVID-19 died. The final model showed that the type of medicine antiviral (OR: 11.10, p = 0.038) than reference (antiviral and corticosteroid), and discharge oxygen saturation(O2) (OR: 1.10, p < 0.001) had a positive association with the chance of survival, but other variables were not considered as predictive variables. Predictive models for the final outcome(death) achieved accuracies ranging from 81 to 87% for hierarchical multiple logistic regression and from 87 to 94% for the CART model. Therefore, the CART model performed better than the hirerical multiple logistic regression model. CONCLUSION These findings firstly elucidate the incidence and associated factors of the outcome (death) among patients in Shiraz, Iran. Furthermore, we demonstrated that antiviral medication alone (without corticosteroids) and high O2 increase the survival chances of COVID patients.

Abstract
Background There is increasing evidence suggesting that ABO blood type may play a role in the immunopathogenesis of COVID-19 infection. In addition to ABO blood type, the Rhesus (Rh) factor has also been implicated in various disease processes. Therefore, our study aimed to assess the association between both ABO and Rh blood types in critically ill patients with COVID-19 and their clinical outcomes. Methods A multicenter retrospective cohort study conducted in Saudi Arabia between March 1, 2020, and July 31, 2021, involving adult COVID-19 patients admitted to Intensive Care Units, aimed to explore potential associations between rhesus blood group types (Positive versus Negative) and clinical outcomes. The primary endpoint assessed was the hospital length of stay (LOS). Other endpoints were considered secondary. Results After propensity score matching (3:1 ratio), 212 patients were included in the final analysis. The hospital length of stay was longer in a negative Rh blood group compared with patients in the Rh-positive group (beta coefficient 0.26 (0.02, 0.51), p = 0.03). However, neither 30-day mortality (HR 0.28; 95% CI 0.47, 1.25, p = 0.28) nor in-hospital mortality (HR 0.74; 95% CI 0.48, 1.14, p = 0.17) reached statistical significance. Additionally, among the different ABO types, the A+ blood group exhibited a higher proportion of thrombosis/infarction and in-hospital mortality (28.1% and 31.2%, respectively). Conclusion This study highlights the potential impact of blood group type on the prognosis of critically ill patients with COVID-19. It has been observed that patients with a negative Rh blood group type tend to have a longer hospital stay, while their mortality rates and complications during ICU stay are similar to the patients with a Rh-positive group.

Abstract
The microbes in the gut are crucial for maintaining the body's immune system and overall gut health. However, it is not fully understood how an unstable gut environment can lead to more severe cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The gut microbiota also plays a role in the gut-brain axis and interacts with the central nervous system through metabolic and neuroendocrine pathways. The interaction between the microbiota and the host's body involves hormonal, immune, and neural pathways, and any disruption in the balance of gut bacteria can lead to dysbiosis, which contributes to pathogen growth. In this context, we discuss how dysbiosis could contribute to comorbidities that increase susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2. Probiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation have successfully treated infectious and non-infectious inflammatory-related diseases, the most common comorbidities. These treatments could be adjuvant therapies for COVID-19 infection by restoring gut homeostasis and balancing the gut microbiota.

Abstract
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the etiological agent of COVID-19, is known to infect people of all ages and both sexes. Senior populations have the greatest risk of severe COVID-19, and sexual dimorphism in clinical outcomes has been reported. Neurological symptoms are widely observed in COVID-19 patients, with many survivors exhibiting persistent neurological and cognitive impairment. The present study aims to investigate the impact of age and sex on the neuroinflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2 infection using a mouse model. Wild-type C57BL/6J mice were intranasally inoculated with SARS-CoV-2 lineage B.1.351, a variant known to infect mice. Older male mice exhibited a significantly greater weight loss and higher viral loads in the lung at 3 days post infection. Notably, no viral RNA was detected in the brains of infected mice. Nevertheless, expression of IL-6, TNF-α, and CCL-2 in the lung and brain increased with viral infection. RNA-seq transcriptomic analysis of brains showed that SARS-CoV-2 infection caused significant changes in gene expression profiles, implicating innate immunity, defense response to virus, and cerebrovascular and neuronal functions. These findings demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 infection triggers a neuroinflammatory response, despite the lack of detectable virus in the brain. Aberrant activation of innate immune response, disruption of blood-brain barrier and endothelial cell integrity, and suppression of neuronal activity and axonogenesis underlie the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the brain. Understanding the role of these affected pathways in SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis helps identify appropriate points of therapeutic interventions to alleviate neurological dysfunction observed during COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the characteristics of COVID-19 patients with pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum (PTX/PM) and their association with patient outcomes. PATIENTS AND METHODS Adults admitted to five Mayo Clinic hospitals with COVID-19 between 03/2020-01/2022 were evaluated. PTX/PM was defined by imaging. Descriptive analyses and a matched (age, sex, admission month, COVID-19 severity) cohort comparison was performed. Hospital mortality, length of stay (LOS), and predisposing factors were assessed. RESULTS Among 6663 patients, 197 had PTX/PM (3 %) (75 PM, 40 PTX, 82 both). The median age was 59, with 71 % males. Exposure to invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and high-flow nasal cannula before PTX/PM were 42 %, 17 %, and 20 %, respectively. Among isolated PTX and PM/PTX patients 70 % and 53.7 % underwent an intervention, respectively, while 96 % of the PM-only group was followed conservatively.A total of 171 patients with PTX/PM were compared to 171 matched controls. PTX/PM patients had more underlying lung disease (40.9 vs. 23.4 %, p < 0.001) and lower median body mass index (BMI) (29.5 vs. 31.3 kg/m2, p = .007) than controls. Among patients with available data, PTX/PM patients had higher median positive end-expiratory and plateau pressures than controls; however, differences were not significant (10 vs. 8 cmH2O; p = 0.38 and 28 vs. 22 cmH2O; p = 0.11, respectively). PTX/PM patients had a higher odds of mortality (adjusted odds ratio [95%CI]: 3.37 [1.61-7.07]) and longer mean LOS (percent change [95%CI]: 39 [9-77]) than controls. CONCLUSION In COVID-19 patients with similar severity, PTX/PM patients had more underlying lung disease and lower BMI. They had significantly increased mortality and LOS.

Abstract
COVID-19 laboratory diagnosis primarily relies on molecular tests, highly sensitive during early infection stages with high viral loads. As the disease progresses, sensitivity decreases, requiring antibody detection. Since the beginning of the pandemic, serological tests have been developed and made available in Brazil, but their diagnostic performance varies. This study evaluated the IBMP ELISA IgA/IgM/IgG COVID-19 kit performance in detecting SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. A total of 90 samples, including 64 from COVID-19 patients and 26 pre-pandemic donors, were assessed based on time post symptom onset (0-7, 8-14, and 15-21 days). The kit showed 61% sensitivity, 100% specificity, and 72% accuracy overall. Sensitivity varied with time, being 25%, 57%, and 96% for 0-7, 8-14, and 15-21 days, respectively. Similar variations were noted in other commercial tests. The Gold ELISA COVID-19 (IgG/IgM) had sensitivities of 31%, 71%, and 100%, while the Anti-SARS-CoV-2 NCP ELISA (IgG) and Anti-SARS-CoV-2 NCP ELISA (IgM) showed varying sensitivities. The IBMP ELISA kit displayed high diagnostic capability, especially as the disease progressed, complementing COVID-19 diagnosis. Reproducibility assessment revealed minimal systematic and analytical errors. In conclusion, the IBMP ELISA IgA/IgM/IgG COVID-19 kit is a robust tool for detecting anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, increasing in efficacy over the disease course, and minimizing false negatives in RT-PCR COVID-19 diagnosis.

Abstract
Developing and implementing an epidemiological surveillance plan was necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure safe dental practice. This was due to the high risk faced by this occupational group during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with COVID-19 diagnosis in a Peruvian dental school's integrated teaching and care service. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a population made up of the records of students, teachers, and administrative personnel in a COVID-19 epidemiological surveillance plan of a dental school during the years 2021 to 2022. The year 2022 was positively associated with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 (aPR: 1.51; 95% CI: 1.10-2.07; p = 0.010) and not having had contact with a patient with COVID-19 was negatively associated with being diagnosed with that disease (aPR: 0.20; 95% CI: 0.14-0.27; p < 0.001). In conclusion, 2022 was positively associated with having a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. In addition, not having had contact with a COVID-19 patient was negatively associated with the disease diagnosis and with the development of moderate to severe COVID-19.

Abstract
Through widespread immunization against SARS-CoV-2 prior to or post-infection, a substantial segment of the global population has acquired both humoral and cellular immunity, and there has been a notable reduction in the incidence of severe and fatal cases linked to this virus and accelerated recovery times for those infected. Nonetheless, a significant demographic, comprising around 20% to 30% of the adult population, remains unimmunized due to diverse factors. Furthermore, alongside those recovered from the infection, there is a subset of the population experiencing persistent symptoms referred to as Long COVID. This condition is more prevalent among individuals with underlying health conditions and immune system impairments. Some Long COVID pathologies stem from direct damage inflicted by the viral infection, whereas others arise from inadequate immune system control over the infection or suboptimal immunoregulation. There are differences in the serum cytokines and miRNA profiles between infected individuals who develop severe COVID-19 or Long COVID and those who control adequately the infection. This review delves into the advantages and constraints associated with employing imiquimod in human subjects to enhance the immune response during SARS-CoV-2 immunization. Restoration of the immune system can modify it towards a profile of non-susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2. An adequate immune system has the potential to curb viral propagation, mitigate symptoms, and ameliorate the severe consequences of the infection.

Abstract
Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are newly emerging and reemerging infectious diseases. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases identifies the following as emerging infectious diseases: SARS, MERS, COVID-19, influenza, fungal diseases, plague, schistosomiasis, smallpox, tick-borne diseases, and West Nile fever. The factors that should be taken into consideration are the genetic adaptation of microbial agents and the characteristics of the human host or environment. The new approach to identifying new possible pathogens will have to go through the One Health approach and omics integration data, which are capable of identifying high-priority microorganisms in a short period of time. New bioinformatics technologies enable global integration and sharing of surveillance data for rapid public health decision-making to detect and prevent epidemics and pandemics, ensuring timely response and effective prevention measures. Machine learning tools are being more frequently utilized in the realm of infectious diseases to predict sepsis in patients, diagnose infectious diseases early, and forecast the effectiveness of treatment or the appropriate choice of antibiotic regimen based on clinical data. We will discuss emerging microorganisms, omics techniques applied to infectious diseases, new computational solutions to evaluate biomarkers, and innovative tools that are useful for integrating omics data and electronic medical records data for the clinical management of emerging infectious diseases.

Abstract
Few studies have investigated whether SARS-CoV-2 infections increase the incidence of dengue haemorrhagic fever/shock syndrome (DHF/DSS) and/or severe dengue (SD) in dengue virus (DENV)-infected patients. This study was performed on a site with high incidences of classical dengue, but relatively few DHF/DSS or SD cases as defined by the WHO 1997 or 2009 criteria, respectively. Clinical, haematological/biochemical, and viral diagnostic data were collected from febrile patients before, during, and after the COVID-19 epidemic to assess whether (a) DENV-infected patients with prior SARS-CoV-2 infections or (b) DENV-SARS-CoV-2-co-infected patients had increased incidences of SD/DHF/DSS using logistic regression and machine learning models. Higher numbers of DHF/DSS/SD occurred during the COVID-19 epidemic, particularly in males and 18-40-year-olds. Significantly increased symptoms in the DENV-SARS-CoV-2-co-infected cases were (a) haemoconcentration (p < 0.0009) and hypotension (p < 0.0005) (DHF/DSS and SD criteria), (b) thrombocytopenia and mucosal bleeding (DHF/DSS-criteria), (c) abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, mucosal bleeding, and thrombocytopenia (SD warning signs) and (d) dyspnoea, but without fluid accumulation. DENV-infected patients with prior SARS-CoV-2 infections had significantly increased incidences of thrombocytopenia (DHF/DSS-criteria) and/or abdominal pain and persistent vomiting and also thrombocytopenia (SD warning signs), but without significant haemoconcentration or hypotension. DENV-SARS-CoV-2 co-infections significantly increased the incidence of DHF/DSS/SD, while DENV-infected patients with prior SARS-CoV-2 infections displayed significantly increased incidences of thrombocytopenia (DHF/DSS-criteria) and three important SD warning signs, which are therefore very important for health workers/clinicians in assessing patients' DHF/DSS/SD risk factors and planning their optimal therapies.

Abstract
Background COVID-19 disease is characterized by a spectrum of disease phases (mild, moderate, and severe). Each disease phase is marked by changes in omics profiles with corresponding changes in the expression of features (biosignatures). However, integrative analysis of multiple omics data from different experiments across studies to investigate biosignatures at various disease phases is limited. Exploring an integrative multi-omics profile analysis through a network approach could be used to determine biosignatures associated with specific disease phases and enable the examination of the relationships between the biosignatures. Aim To identify and characterize biosignatures underlying various COVID-19 disease phases in an integrative multi-omics data analysis. Method We leveraged a multi-omics network-based approach to integrate transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics, and lipidomics data. The World Health Organization Ordinal Scale WHO Ordinal Scale was used as a disease severity reference to harmonize COVID-19 patient metadata across two studies with independent data. A unified COVID-19 knowledge graph was constructed by assembling a disease-specific interactome from the literature and databases. Disease-state specific omics-graphs were constructed by integrating multi-omics data with the unified COVID-19 knowledge graph. We expanded on the network layers of multiXrank, a random walk with restart on multilayer network algorithm, to explore disease state omics-specific graphs and perform enrichment analysis. Results Network analysis revealed the biosignatures involved in inducing chemokines and inflammatory responses as hubs in the severe and moderate disease phases. We observed distinct biosignatures between severe and moderate disease phases as compared to mild-moderate and mild-severe disease phases. Mild COVID-19 cases were characterized by a unique biosignature comprising C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 4 (CCL4), and Interferon Regulatory Factor 1 (IRF1). Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF), Matrix Metallopeptidase 12 (MMP12), Interleukin 10 (IL10), Nuclear Factor Kappa B Subunit 1 (NFKB1), and suberoylcarnitine form hubs in the omics network that characterizes the moderate disease state. The severe cases were marked by biosignatures such as Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 1 (STAT1), Superoxide Dismutase 2 (SOD2), HGF, taurine, lysophosphatidylcholine, diacylglycerol, triglycerides, and sphingomyelin that characterize the disease state. Conclusion This study identified both biosignatures of different omics types enriched in disease-related pathways and their associated interactions (such as protein-protein, protein-transcript, protein-metabolite, transcript-metabolite, and lipid-lipid interactions) that are unique to mild, moderate, and severe COVID-19 disease states. These biosignatures include molecular features that underlie the observed clinical heterogeneity of COVID-19 and emphasize the need for disease-phase-specific treatment strategies. The approach implemented here can be used to find associations between transcripts, proteins, lipids, and metabolites in other diseases.

Background: Vitamin C has been used as an antioxidant and has been proven effective in boosting immunity in different diseases, including coronavirus disease (COVID-19). An increasing awareness was directed to the role of intravenous vitamin C in COVID-19. Methods: In this study, we aimed to assess the safety of high-dose intravenous vitamin C added to the conventional regimens for patients with different stages of COVID-19. An open-label clinical trial was conducted on patients with COVID-19. One hundred four patients underwent high-dose intravenous administration of vitamin C (in addition to conventional therapy), precisely 10 g in 250 cc of saline solution in slow infusion (60 drops/min) for three consecutive days. At the same time, 42 patients took the standard-of-care therapy. Results: This study showed the safety of high-dose intravenous administration of vitamin C. No adverse reactions were found. When we evaluated the renal function indices and estimated the glomerular filtration rate (eGRF, calculated with the CKD-EPI Creatinine Equation) as the main side effect and contraindication related to chronic renal failure, no statistically significant differences between the two groups were found. High-dose vitamin C treatment was not associated with a statistically significant reduction in mortality and admission to the intensive care unit, even if the result was bound to the statistical significance. On the contrary, age was independently associated with admission to the intensive care unit and in-hospital mortality as well as noninvasive ventilation (N.I.V.) and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.41-3.35; OR 7.50, 95% CI 1.97-28.54; OR 8.84, 95% CI 2.62-29.88, respectively). When considering the length of hospital stay, treatment with high-dose vitamin C predicts shorter hospitalization (OR -4.95 CI -0.21--9.69). Conclusions: Our findings showed that an intravenous high dose of vitamin C is configured as a safe and promising therapy for patients with moderate to severe COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the relationship between the timing of non-emergency surgery in mild or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) infected individuals and the quality of postoperative recovery from the time of confirmed infection to the day of surgery. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 300 cases of mild or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infected patients undergoing elective general anaesthesia surgery at Yijishan Hospital between January 9, 2023, and February 17, 2023. Based on the time from confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection to the day of surgery, patients were divided into four groups: ≤2 weeks (Group A), 2-4 weeks (Group B), 4-6 weeks (Group C), and 6-8 weeks (Group D). The primary outcome measures included the Quality of Recovery-15 (QoR-15) scale scores at 3 days, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. Secondary outcome measures included postoperative mortality, ICU admission, pulmonary complications, postoperative length of hospital stay, extubation time, and time to leave the PACU. RESULTS Concerning the primary outcome measures, the QoR-15 scores at 3 days postoperatively in Group A were significantly lower compared to the other three groups (P < 0.05), while there were no statistically significant differences among the other three groups (P > 0.05). The QoR-15 scores at 3 and 6 months postoperatively showed no statistically significant differences among the four groups (P > 0.05). In terms of secondary outcome measures, Group A had a significantly prolonged hospital stay compared to the other three groups (P < 0.05), while other outcome measures showed no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION The timing of surgery in mild or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infected patients does not affect long-term recovery quality but does impact short-term recovery quality, especially for elective general anaesthesia surgeries within 2 weeks of confirmed infection. Therefore, it is recommended to wait for a surgical timing of at least greater than 2 weeks to improve short-term recovery quality and enhance patient prognosis.

Abstract
There is limited long-term evidence on the effects of COVID-19 on vascular injury between male and female sex. An adult cohort of COVID-19 survivors (COVID+) and confirmed SARS-CoV-2 antibody-negative participants (COVID-) were prospectively enrolled. COVID+ participants who have documented the presence of persistent symptoms four weeks following infection were considered to have post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC). Non-invasive, FDA-approved EndoPAT (Endo-PAT2000) was used for endothelial assessment. COVID-(n = 94) were 1:1 propensity score matched to COVID+ (n = 151) on baseline covariates including sex. Among COVID+, 66.2% (n = 100) had PASC. Higher levels of coagulation marker, D-dimer (p = 0.001), and gut permeability marker, zonulin (p = 0.001), were associated with female sex. Estimated differences in augmentation index (AI) between COVID- (0.9 ± 17.2) and COVID+ (8.4 ± 15.7; p = 0.001) and between female and male sex (12.9 ± 1.9; p < .0001) were observed. Among COVID+ with PASC, the average AI (10.5 ± 1.6) was 9.7 units higher than COVID- (p < .0001) and 6.2 units higher compared to COVID+ with no PASC (p = 0.03). COVID+ PASC+ female sex had the highest AI (14.3 ± 1.9). The effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on vascular function varies across strata of sex and female sex in the post-acute phase of COVID-19 have the worse arterial elasticity (highest AI).

Abstract
BACKGROUND This paper aims to examine the impact of COVID-19 on various health aspects of women recovered from this disease in Ardabil province, Iran. MATERIALS AND METHODS This qualitative study using a content analysis approach was carried out through in-depth individual and focus group discussion using semi-structured interviews schedule in 26 women during June and August 2021. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and MAXQDA six-stage analysis framework. RESULTS Negative consequences of COVID-19 were generally categorized into five main themes (including increased self-conscious excitement, perceived social stigma, depression, changes in behavioral patterns, and reduced level of quality of life) and 13 subthemes. The positive consequences were the following five themes (including the development of the spiritual attitude, increasing the importance of personal health, the rise of perceived support, increased sense of altruism, and increased financial management) and four subthemes. CONCLUSION Based on the findings, it is concluded that effective support by the government, society, and the medical staff could help to relieve people's psychological and social stress through providing financial aid, the right information, and training.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common comorbidity in COVID-19 subjects. Hyperglycemia at hospital admission identified as a major risk factor and is responsible for poor prognosis. Hematological and inflammatory parameters have been recognized as predictive markers of severity in COVID-19. In this clinical study, we aimed to assess the impact of hyperglycemia at hospital admission on hematological and several inflammatory parameters in COVID-19 patients. A total of 550 COVID-19 subjects were primarily categorized into two major groups (normoglycemic and hyperglycemic) based on random blood sugar levels. On the first day of hospitalization, subjects' oxygen saturation, random blood sugar, hematological variables, and inflammatory parameters were recorded. The hyperglycemic group exhibited higher levels of serum ferritin, total leukocyte count (TLC), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), neutrophil count, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). In contrast, oxygen saturation and lymphocyte count were lower compared to the normoglycemic group. Significantly elevated levels of hematological variables (TLC, neutrophil count, NLR) and inflammatory parameters (serum ferritin) were observed in the hyperglycemic group. Among inflammatory parameters, only serum ferritin levels showed statistical significance. This study supports the clinical association between hyperglycemia and an increased severity of COVID-19. Consequently, the identification of these parameters is a crucial and valuable prognostic indicator for assessing disease severity in hyperglycemic subjects.

Abstract
The WHO, on 30 January 2020, declared the Chinese outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) a global community health emergency that poses a serious threat to vulnerable healthcare systems. This review protocol will be conducted to systematically review and to perform a meta-analysis on the impact of COVID-19 among newborns in Africa. All observational studies on the impact of COVID-19 among newborns in Africa will be included. A standard quest strategy to retrieve studies was conducted on several databases (Google Scholar, PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, HINARI, Cochrane Library, WHO COVID-19 database, Africa Wide Knowledge and Web of Science). Two independent authors were tasked to extract key data and to assess the risk of bias. To assess possible publication bias, funnel plot test and Egger's test methods will be used. The description will be used to show the COVID-19 distribution data by interest variables such as residence, setting and person-level characteristics. The findings of this review will notify healthcare professionals about the burden and impact of COVID-19 and provide evidence to bring about the requisite improvements in clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anxiety symptoms in a Colombian HCW sample during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS A cross-sectional study was carried out by means of an online survey (May-June 2020). Respondents were HCWs in Colombia reached by a nonprobability sample. Zung's self-rating anxiety scale allowed the estimation of prevalence and classification of anxiety symptoms. RESULTS A total of 568 HCWs answered the questionnaire, 66.0% were women, the mean age was 38.6±11.4 years. 28.9% presented with anxiety symptoms, of whom 9.2% were moderate-severe. Characteristics such as living with relatives at higher risk of mortality from COVID-19 infection (OR: 1.90; 95% CI: 1.308-2.762), female sex (OR: 2.16; 95% CI: 1.422-3.277), and personal history of psychiatric illness (OR: 3.41; 95% CI: 2.08-5.57) were associated with higher levels of anxiety. Access to sufficient personal protective equipment (OR: 0.45; 95% CI: 0.318-0.903) and age >40 years (OR: 0.53; 95% CI: 0.358-0.789) were associated with lower anxiety levels. CONCLUSIONS Anxious symptoms are common in the population of HCWs faced with patient care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Different strategies are required to intervene with subgroups at risk of developing higher levels of anxiety during the pandemic.

Abstract
Non-infectious virus-like nanoparticles mimic native virus structures and can be modified by inserting foreign protein fragments, making them immunogenic tools for antigen presentation. This study investigated, for the first time, the immunogenicity of long and flexible polytubes formed by yeast-expressed tail tube protein gp39 of bacteriophage vB_EcoS_NBD2 and evaluated their ability to elicit an immune response against the inserted protein fragments. Protein gp39-based polytubes induced humoral immune response in mice, even without the use of adjuvant. Bioinformatics analysis guided the selection of protein fragments from Acinetobacter baumannii for insertion into the C-terminus of gp39. Chimeric polytubes, displaying 28-amino acid long OmpA protein fragment, induced IgG response against OmpA protein fragment in immunized mice. These polytubes demonstrated their effectiveness both as antigen carrier and an adjuvant, when the OmpA fragments were either displayed on chimeric polytubes or used alongside with the unmodified polytubes. Our findings expand the potential applications of long and flexible polytubes, contributing to the development of novel antigen carriers with improved immunogenicity and antigen presentation capabilities.

Abstract
Recent studies elucidate that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients may face a higher risk of cardiovascular complications. This study aimed to evaluate association of COVID-19 with the risk of pulmonary embolism (PE) or deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This nationwide population-based retrospective cohort study included Korean adult citizens between January 2021 and March 2022 from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency COVID-19 National Health Insurance Service cohort. The Fine and Gray's regression with all-cause death as a competing event was adopted to evaluate PE and DVT risks after COVID-19. This study included a total of 1,601,835 COVID-19 patients and 14,011,285 matched individuals without COVID-19. The risk of PE (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 6.25; 95% confidence interval [CI], 3.67-10.66; p < 0.001) and DVT (aHR, 3.05; 95% CI, 1.75-5.29; p < 0.001) was higher in COVID-19 group in individuals without complete COVID-19 vaccination. In addition, individuals with complete COVID-19 vaccination still had a higher risk of COVID-19-related PE (aHR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.15-1.88; p < 0.001). However, COVID-19 was not a significant risk factor for DVT among those with complete COVID-19 vaccination. COVID-19 was identified as an independent factor that elevated PE and DVT risks, especially for individuals without complete COVID-19 vaccination.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The review discusses the pathophysiological mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2, the modes of transmission, and the long-term health consequences of COVID-19, emphasizing the importance of research and successful public health initiatives. CONTENT COVID-19 taxonomy, pathophysiology, symptomatology, and epidemiological importance are the key objects of this research paper. This review explains how COVID-19 affects different systems of the body, including respiratory, cardiovascular, and reproductive systems of the human body. It describes the modes of entry of the virus into the cell; more precisely, ACE2 and TMPRSS2 in viral entry. In addition, the present study analyzes the situation of COVID-19 in India regarding vaccine development and the transmission rate related to socioeconomic factors. SUMMARY The manifestation of COVID-19 presents a lot of symptoms and post-acute problems, issues which are seriously impacting mental health and physical health as well. The present review summarizes current research into pathogenicity and the mode of virus transmission, together with immunological responses. Coupled with strong vaccination programs, public health initiatives should hold the key to fighting this pandemic. OUTLOOK Long-term effects and the development of treatment methods will need further study, as ambiguities on COVID-19 remain. Multidisciplinary collaboration across healthcare sectors in this respect is of paramount importance for the prevention of further spread and protection of public health.

Abstract
COVID-19 has been a global concern for 3 years, however, consecutive plasma protein changes in the disease course are currently unclear. Setting the mortality within 28 days of admission as the main clinical outcome, plasma samples were collected from patients in discovery and independent validation groups at different time points during the disease course. The whole patients were divided into death and survival groups according to their clinical outcomes. Proteomics and pathway/network analyses were used to find the differentially expressed proteins and pathways. Then, we used machine learning to develop a protein classifier which can predict the clinical outcomes of the patients with COVID-19 and help identify the high-risk patients. Finally, a classifier including C-reactive protein, extracellular matrix protein 1, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein complex acid labile subunit, E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase HECW1 and phosphatidylcholine-sterol acyltransferase was determined. The prediction value of the model was verified with an independent patient cohort. This novel model can realize early prediction of 28-day mortality of patients with COVID-19, with the area under curve 0.88 in discovery group and 0.80 in validation group, superior to 4C mortality and E-CURB65 scores. In total, this work revealed a potential protein classifier which can assist in predicting the outcomes of COVID-19 patients and providing new diagnostic directions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To identify the demographic characteristics and potential risk factors of invasive fungal sinusitis (IFS) patients with Coronavirus Disease in 2019 (COVID-19). METHODS Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and PubMed were searched from database inception to August 2023 using the combination of medical searching heading terms "invasive fungal sinusitis" and "COVID-19" and their free words. The research protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023467175). RESULTS A total of 53 studies were included. The mean age of IFS patients with COVID-19 was 53.72 (95% credible interval [CI]: 51.08, 56.36), with 66% males (95% CI: 0.62, 0.70), and 81% diabetes (95% CI: 0.77, 0.86). The mean time from COVID-19 diagnosis to IFS onset was 19.09 days (95% CI: 16.96, 21.22). The percentage of patients with COVID-19 PCR positivity was 33% (95% CI: 0.21, 0.45). Overall, 71% of patients receiving steroid therapy during COVID-19 infection (95% CI: 0.63, 0.78). The odds ratio of diabetes mellitus, steroid administration, and COVID-19 PCR positivity were 6.09, 2.21, and 1.82, respectively. COVID-19 infection did not affect the IFS stage. CONCLUSION IFS patients with COVID-19 had an average age of 53.72 years and were predominantly males, with a mean interval of 19.09 days from COVID-19 diagnosis to IFS onset. Diabetes, steroid administration, and COVID-19 PCR positivity were risk factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To analyze the gene variants of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and determine their association with the severity and outcome of COVID-19. METHODS A total of 104 patients were included in the study: 34 asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 as controls and 70 symptomatic patients as cases. The genetic variants ACE rs4343, ACE2 rs2074192, AGTR1 rs5182, and AGT rs4762 were identified using TaqMan genotyping tests. RESULTS Patients with the T/T genotype of AGTR1 rs5182 have a higher probability of developing symptomatic COVID-19 (odds ratio [OR] 12.25, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.34-111.9, P ≤0.001) and a higher risk of hospitalization because of disease (OR 14.00, 95% CI 1.53-128.49, P = 0.012). The haplotype CTG (AGTR1 rs5182, ACE2 rs2074192, ACE rs4343) decreased the odds of death related to COVID-19 in the study population (OR 0.03, 95% CI 0.0-0.06, P = 0.026). CONCLUSIONS The T/T genotype of the AGTR1 rs5182 variant increased the probability of symptomatic COVID-19 and hospitalization, whereas the haplotype CTG (consisting of AGTR1 rs5182, ACE2 rs2074192, and ACE rs4343) decreased the odds of death related to COVID-19 by 97% in the hospitalized patients with COVID-19. These results support the participation of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system gene variants as modifiers of the severity of symptoms associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection and the outcome of COVID-19.

Abstract
Objectives Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged as a global pandemic during 2019 to 2022. The gold standard method of detecting this disease is reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). However, RT-PCR has a number of shortcomings. Hence, the objective is to propose a cheap and effective method of detecting COVID-19 infection by using machine learning (ML) techniques, which encompasses five basic parameters as an alternative to the costly RT-PCR. Materials and Methods Two machine learning-based predictive models, namely, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS), are designed for predicting COVID-19 infection as a cheaper and simpler alternative to RT-PCR utilizing five basic parameters [i.e., age, total leucocyte count, red blood cell count, platelet count, C-reactive protein (CRP)]. Each of these parameters was studied, and correlation is drawn with COVID-19 diagnosis and progression. These laboratory parameters were evaluated in 171 patients who presented with symptoms suspicious of COVID-19 in a hospital at Kharagpur, India, from April to August 2022. Out of a total of 171 patients, 88 and 83 were found to be COVID-19-negative and COVID-19-positive, respectively. Results The accuracies of the predicted class are found to be 97.06% and 91.18% for ANN and MARS, respectively. CRP is found to be the most significant input parameter. Finally, two predictive mathematical equations for each ML model are provided, which can be quite useful to detect the COVID-19 infection easily. Conclusion It is expected that the present study will be useful to the medical practitioners for predicting the COVID-19 infection in patients based on only five very basic parameters.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 19 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) enveloped virus with a single-stranded positive-sense ribonucleic acid (RNA) genome. The CoV non-structural protein (nsp) 1 is a multifunctional protein that undergoes translation shutoff, messenger RNA (mRNA) cleavage, and RNA binding. The C-terminal region is involved in translational shutoff and RNA cleavage. The N-terminal region of SARS-CoV-2 nsp1 is highly conserved among isolated SARS-CoV-2 variants. However, the I-004 variant, isolated during the early SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, lost eight amino acids in the nsp1 region. In this study, we showed that the eight amino acids are important for viral replication in infected interferon-incompetent cells and that the recombinant virus that lost these amino acids had low pathogenicity in the lungs of hamster models. The loss of eight amino acids-induced mutations occurred in the 5' untranslated region (UTR), suggesting that nsp1 contributes to the stability of the viral genome during replication.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Changes in healthcare delivery were required during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the approach to care of the COVID-19 patient on nursing sensitive indicators and nutrition therapy and the utilization of rehabilitation services during the first year of the pandemic in the acute care setting. METHOD A retrospective study of 894 patients admitted with a COVID-19 diagnosis was conducted between March 2020 and February 2021 in 3-month cohorts. All charts were reviewed for general demographics and hospital data, nursing quality indicators, and nutritional and rehabilitation services for the first 30 days of admission. RESULTS Differences in patient characteristics were noted among the cohorts. Variations were observed between time points in hospital-acquired pressure injury occurrence, with mechanical ventilation and proning being independent predictors of hospital-acquired pressure injuries. There were differences noted in the percentage of patients with a central line-associated bloodstream infection among the time points (P < .001), but there were no differences noted in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (P = .20). Overall, 15.5% had a malnutrition diagnosis, with most patients receiving 50% of prescribed calorie and protein needs. Rehabilitation services increased over time with these services being initiated earlier in the later cohorts (P < .001). DISCUSSION The results of this study demonstrated the impact of the pandemic on outcomes in the areas of nursing, nutrition, and rehabilitation, which varied across quarterly cohorts as we learned and developed new practices and adapted to a novel pandemic.

This study aims to characterize virological and epidemiological aspects of influenza infection in Bulgaria during the 2022-2023 season and perform a phylogenetic/molecular analysis of the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) sequences of representative influenza strains.Hypothesis/Gap Statement. Influenza A and B viruses generate new genetic groups/clades each season, replacing previously circulating variants. This results in increased antigenic distances from current vaccine strains. Strengthening existing influenza surveillance is essential to meet the challenges posed by the co-circulation of influenza and SARS-CoV-2.Methodology. We tested 2713 clinical samples from patients with acute respiratory illnesses using a multiplex real-time RT-PCR kit (FluSC2) to detect influenza A/B and Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2) simultaneously. Representative Bulgarian influenza strains were sequenced at the WHO Collaborating Centres in London, UK, and Atlanta, USA.Results. Influenza virus was detected in 694 (25.6 %) patients. Of these, 364 (52.4 %), 213 (30.7 %) and 117 (16.9 %) were positive for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09, A(H3N2) and B/Victoria lineage virus, respectively. HA genes of the 47 influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses fell into clades 5a.2. and 5a.2a.1 within the 6B.5A.1A.5a.2 group. Twenty-seven A(H3N2) viruses belonging to subclades 2b, 2a.1, 2a.1b and 2a.3a.1 within the 3C.2a1b.2a.2 group were analysed. All 23 sequenced B/Victoria lineage viruses were classified into the V1A.3a.2 group. We identified amino acid substitutions in HA and NA compared with the vaccine strains, including several substitutions in the HA antigenic sites.Conclusion. The study's findings showed genetic diversity among the influenza A viruses and, to a lesser extent, among B viruses, circulating in the first season after the lifting of anti-COVID-19 measures.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to explore the differences between primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) and secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP) in demographic and clinical features, management trends, and outcomes, alongside assessing recurrence risk factors in spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) patients. METHODS This retrospective cohort study at New Damietta Hospital, Al-Azhar University, examined data from adults diagnosed with SP, differentiating between PSP and SSP types based on clinical and radiological criteria, to analyze demographics, clinical characteristics, management strategies, and outcomes. RESULTS In a study of 170 patients, 42.94% were diagnosed with PSP and 57.06% with SSP, showing significant differences in age distribution (P=0.042) and smoking habits (P<0.001 for both tobacco and cannabis). Management approaches varied, with conservative methods more common in PSP (15.07%) and surgical interventions following intercostal tube (ICT) drainage significantly higher in SSP (40.21%, P=0.001). Length of hospital stay (LOS) and recurrence rates were significantly higher in SSP than PSP (P<0.001 for LOS; P=0.001 for recurrence), with postoperative complications and in-hospital mortality occurring exclusively in SSP (P=0.054 for complications, P<0.001 for mortality). Risk factors for recurrence included older age, presence of blebs/bullae (P<0.001), and lower hemoglobin and hematocrit levels (P=0.009 and P=0.008, respectively), with thoracic drainage duration longer in recurrent cases (P=0.008). Smoking status significantly impacted recurrence risk, with current smokers showing a higher risk compared to never-smokers (P=0.012). CONCLUSIONS This study highlights significant demographic, clinical, and management differences between primary and secondary spontaneous pneumothorax, underscoring the importance of tailored treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes. Key findings include the impact of smoking status on recurrence risk and the necessity for individualized management plans, especially in SSP patients who exhibit higher rates of recurrence, longer hospital stays, and greater morbidity.

Abstract
Background Pneumothorax is a rare but deadly complication in patients who require mechanical ventilation. As with any condition associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is known to be associated with pneumothorax. However, in the literature, comparative data on the risk factors for pneumothorax in COVID-19 and other diseases like influenza are limited. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence and risk factors for pneumothorax in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and compare them with influenza pneumonia patients. Methods This study is a retrospective analysis of the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) 2020 database cohort. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify the prevalence and risk factors for pneumothorax in COVID-19 patients and compared with the risk of pneumothorax in influenza patients. Results The NIS 2020 database includes 1,608,980 hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients, of which 22,545 [95% confidence interval (CI): 21,491-23,598] (1.4%) developed pneumothorax. On multivariate analysis, factors associated with pneumothorax in COVID-19 included patient age of 41-64 years; male sex; Hispanics, Native Americans, and other races; hospitals with large-bed size; privately owned hospitals; urban teaching hospitals; hospitals in the southern United States (US); stroke; malnutrition; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); bronchiectasis; pulmonary fibrosis; liver disease; non-invasive and invasive ventilation; and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Of 184,980 influenza patients, 1,630 (95% CI: 1,448-1,811) (0.88%) developed pneumothorax. The prevalence of pneumothorax was higher (1.4%) in COVID-19 patients compared to patients with influenza pneumonia (0.88%). Conclusions COVID-19 patients who develop pneumothorax have a poor prognosis. Several risk factors for the development of pneumothorax were identified. Patients with these risk factors should be prioritized in applying evidence-based guidelines to prevent pneumothorax.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing weaning failure from invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in critically ill older patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). METHODS We enrolled critically ill older patients with COVID-19 who were admitted to the medical intensive care unit (ICU) and received IMV between December 2022 and June 2023. RESULTS We included 68 critically ill older patients with COVID-19 (52 male [76.5 %] and 16 female individuals [23.5 %]). The patients' median age (interquartile range) was 75.5 (70.3-82.8) years. The median length of ICU stay was 11.5 (7.0-17.8) days; 34 cases (50.0 %) were successfully weaned from IMV. The successfully weaned group had a higher proportion of underlying chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [6 (17.6 %) vs. 0, P = 0.033] and fewer cases of diabetes [7 (20.6 %) vs. 16 (47.1 %), P = 0.021] compared with the weaning failure group. Serum lactate levels [1.5 (1.2-2.3) vs. 2.6 (1.9-3.1) mmol/L, P < 0.001], blood urea nitrogen [8.2 (6.3-14.4) vs. 11.4 (8.0-21.3) mmol/L, P = 0.033], Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score [19.0 (12.0-23.3) vs. 22.5 (16.0-29.3), P = 0.014], and hospitalization days before endotracheal intubation [1.0 (0.0-5.0) vs. 3.0 (0.0-11.0), P = 0.023] were significantly decreased in the successfully weaned group, whereas PaO2/FiO2 [148.3 (94.6-200.3) vs. 101.1 (67.0-165.1), P = 0.038] and blood lymphocyte levels [0.6 (0.4-1.0) vs. 0.5 (0.2-0.6) 109/L, P = 0.048] were significantly increased, compared with the weaning failure group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that diabetes (OR= 3.413, 95 %CI 1.029-11.326), P = 0.045), APACHE II Score (OR = 1.089, 95 % CI 1.008-1.175), P = 0.030), and hospitalization days before endotracheal intubation (OR = 1.137, 95 % CI 1.023-1.264), P = 0.017) were independent risk factors for weaning failure. CONCLUSION In critically ill older patients with COVID-19 with diabetes, higher APACHE II Score, and longer hospitalization days before endotracheal intubation, weaning from IMV was more challenging. The study could help develop strategies for improving COVID-19 treatment.

Abstract
Background Acute respiratory failure is the main clinical manifestation and a major cause of death in patients with COVID-19. However, few reports on its prevention and control have been published because of the need for laboratory predictive indicators. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of hematocrit level, serum albumin level difference, and fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio for COVID-19-associated acute respiratory failure. Material and methods A total of 120 patients with COVID-19 from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University were selected between December 2022 and March 2023. Patients were divided into acute respiratory failure and non-acute respiratory failure groups and compared patient-related indicators between them using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was performed to determine the discrimination accuracy. Results In total, 48 and 72 patients were enrolled in the acute respiratory failure and non-acute respiratory failure groups, respectively. The Quick COVID-19 Severity Index scores, fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio, hematocrit and serum albumin level difference, fibrinogen, and hematocrit levels were significantly higher in the acute respiratory failure group than in the non-acute respiratory failure group. A Quick COVID-19 Severity Index >7, fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio >0.265, and hematocrit and serum albumin level difference >12.792 had a 96.14 % positive predictive rate and a 94.06 % negative predictive rate. Conclusion Both fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio and hematocrit and serum albumin level difference are risk factors for COVID-19-associated acute respiratory failure. The Quick COVID-19 Severity Index score combined with fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio, and hematocrit and serum albumin level difference predict high and low risks with better efficacy and sensitivity than those of the Quick COVID-19 Severity Index score alone; therefore, these parameters can be used collectively as a risk stratification method for assessing patients with COVID-19.
