Abstract
The occurrence of maize ear rot caused by Fusarium verticillioides (F. verticillioides) poses a threat to the yield and quality of maize. Mefentrifluconazole enantiomers appear to have strong stereoselective activity against F. verticillioides and cause differences in fumonisin production. We evaluated the stereoselective activity of mefentrifluconazole enantiomers by determining inhibition of the strain, hyphae, and conidia. Strain inhibition by R-(-)-mefentrifluconazole was 241 times higher than S-(+)-mefentrifluconazole and 376 times higher in conidia inhibition. For the mechanism of the enantioselective bioactivity, R-mefentrifluconazole had stronger binding to proteins than S-(+)-mefentrifluconazole. Under several concentration conditions, the fumonisin concentration was 1.3-24.9-fold higher in the R-(-)-mefentrifluconazole treatment than in the S-(+)-mefentrifluconazole treatment. The R-enantiomer stimulated fumonisin despite a higher bioactivity. As the incubation time increased, the stimulation of the enantiomers on fumonisin production decreased. R-(-)-Mefentrifluconazole stimulated higher fumonisin production in F. verticillioides at 25 °C compared to 30 °C. This study established a foundation for the development of high-efficiency and low-risk pesticides.

Abstract
Agricultural production relies heavily on pesticides. However, factors like inefficient application, pesticide resistance, and environmental conditions reduce their effective utilization in agriculture. Subsequently, pesticides transfer into the soil, adversely affecting its physicochemical properties, microbial populations, and enzyme activities. Different pesticides interacting can lead to combined toxicity, posing risks to non-target organisms, biodiversity, and organism-environment interactions. Pesticide exposure may cause both acute and chronic effects on human health. Biochar, with its high specific surface area and porosity, offers numerous adsorption sites. Its stability, eco-friendliness, and superior adsorption capabilities render it an excellent choice. As a versatile material, biochar finds use in agriculture, environmental management, industry, energy, and medicine. Added to soil, biochar helps absorb or degrade pesticides in contaminated areas, enhancing soil microbial activity. Current research primarily focuses on biochar produced via direct pyrolysis for pesticide adsorption. Studies on functionalized biochar for this purpose are relatively scarce. This review examines biochar's pesticide absorption properties, its characteristics, formation mechanisms, environmental impact, and delves into adsorption mechanisms, functionalization methods, and their prospects and limitations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the time trends in average sleep duration and prevalence of short sleep, poor sleep quality, and high sleep debt among Chinese adults. STUDY DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study. METHODS The study used nationally representative data from Chinese Family Panel Survey (CFPS) among adults aged ≥18 years. Linear regression and logistic regression were used to calculate P-values for trends across waves, and absolute difference in prevalences were calculated by linear regression. Poisson regression analysis was used to calculate the prevalence ratios of sleep-related problems. RESULTS In 2018, the estimated average sleep duration in adults was 7.6 h/d. A shorter sleep duration, higher proportion of short sleep, and poor sleep quality were observed in people aged ≥65 years, women, people with primary school education or below, and residents in Liaoning province. The average sleep duration slightly decreased from 8.2 h/d in 2010 to 7.6 h/d in 2016, and then remained stable from 2016 to 2018. The prevalence of short sleep duration has markedly increased from 11.8% in 2010 to 24.1% in 2016, and then there was a decline in prevalence from 2016 to 2018, although this decrease was not significant. The prevalence of high sleep debt among employed people increased from 6.2% in 2010 to 8.6% in 2018 (absolute difference, 2.4 p.p; P trend = 0.063). In addition, the prevalence of poor sleep quality increased from 15.6% in 2012 to 21.3% in 2018 (absolute difference of 5.7 p.p; P trend<0.001). For all the sleep-related variables, the degree of changes varied by sociodemographic subgroups. CONCLUSIONS In this nationally representative survey of the Chinese population, the average sleep duration slightly decreased from 2010 to 2016, and then remained stable from 2016 to 2018. Poor sleep quality, and high sleep debt increased among most of the sociodemographic subgroups. Future studies are needed to understand the drivers of changes in sleep health among Chinese adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Yield loss and toxin contamination caused by wheat Fusarium head blight (FHB) have always been a worldwide concern. Cultivating disease-resistant varieties and fungicide application are effective measures to control FHB. The comprehensive control technology system for FHB and toxin contamination of wheat in Anhui Province needs further improvement. This study compared the control efficacy of different wheat varieties, fungicides and application times on wheat FHB and deoxynivalenol (DON) contamination, and the dynamic change of DON accumulation after application. RESULTS Among the 93 main wheat varieties in Anhui Province, the disease-resistant and low-toxic wheat variety "Ningmai 26" was more suitable for planting in the central part of Anhui Province. At the same time, "Yangmai 22" was used for subsequent experiments. The field efficacy trials of different fungicides showed that 30% prothioconazole oil dispersion (OD) had the highest control efficacy on FHB and DON contamination, reaching 94.33 and 77.49%, respectively. The study on the optimum application time of prothioconazole showed that the 0-20% flowering stage was the key point of DON control. The survey of the dynamic changes of DON accumulation showed that prothioconazole could significantly reduce the level of DON accumulation while inhibiting the accumulation rate of DON. At the same time, the control fungicide carbendazim increased the level of DON contamination. CONCLUSION This study will provide excellent germplasm resources for cultivating disease-resistant and low-toxic wheat varieties, and provide a theoretical reference for establishing a collaborative prevention and control system of disease control and toxin reduction. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to conduct a meta-analysis to compare the effectiveness and safety between titanium mesh cage (TMC) and nano-hydroxyapatite/polyamide 66 cage (n-HA/PA66) in the surgical treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) through anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF). MATERIALS AND METHODS We implemented a comprehensive search strategy across multiple databases, including Wanfang, China Knowledge Network, China Biomedical Literature Database, Wipu, PubMed, Cochran, Embase, and Web of Science. To ensure a thorough examination of available literature, the databases were searched from their inception to January 2023. Two independent researchers evaluated the quality of the included studies by using established criteria. We used RevMan 5.4 (Review Manager Web, The Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, Denmark) to facilitate data extraction and analysis. RESULTS This analysis included seven controlled clinical studies. The meta-analysis results showed no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of operating time, intraoperative bleeding, preoperative Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, preoperative visual analog scale (VAS) score, preoperative and final follow-up C2-7 Cobb angles, and intervertebral fusion rate (p > 0.05). However, a significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of the final follow-up JOA [MD = 0.77, 95% CI (0.58, 0.97), p < 0.00001], VAS [MD = -0.50, 95% CI (-0.71, -0.30), p < 0.00001], and sedimentation rate [RR = 0.30, 95% CI (0.18, 0.48), p < 0.00001]. CONCLUSIONS The use of n-HA/PA66 in ACCF for treating CSM is safe and effective treatment with positive clinical efficacy. In addition, n-HA/PA66 has both effective clinical efficacy and significantly lower fusion settling rates compared to TMC.

Abstract
Al nanoparticles (ANPs) have high reactivity, but they are easily inactivated by external oxidants. To improve their surface properties, we coat ANPs with a nitrocellulose (NC)/ethanol/ether solution. Comparative discussions are raised from the coating to the combustion process. Our results show that NC/ethanol/ether forms a dense coating layer on the surface of annealed ANPs and passivates ANPs through physical and chemical adsorption. The coating layer can block the contact between the active Al atoms and O2 molecules at low temperatures. In the ignition phase, the NC/ethanol/ether coating layer can increase the density of the O2 molecules around the ANPs and the surface temperature of ANPs. At the end of the ignition phase, the number of O atoms adsorbed on the surface of NC/ethanol/ether coating-passivated ANPs (csANPs) and NC/ethanol/ether coating-annealed ANPs (cANPs) increased by about 60 and 50%, respectively, compared with passivated ANPs (sANPs). Since the desorption and diffusion of the coating layer will expose more reaction sites, ANPs have a shorter ignition delay and a lower ignition temperature. According to the change in atomic displacement, the combustion stage can be divided into three stages: surface oxidation/core melting diffusion, combustion inward propagation, and uniform combustion. The decomposition of NC molecules can increase the combustion speed, combustion time, and efficiency of ANPs. Such improvement will enable ANPs to obtain better storage and combustion performance and play a stronger role in the field of energetic materials.

To evaluate the prognostic value of venous outflow (VO) profiles evaluated on multiphase CTA (mCTA) for the patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). We retrospectively collected 150 patients with AIS who underwent pre-treatment CT perfusion (CTP) evaluation and subsequent EVT from April 2018 to April 2022. Three-phases (peak arterial phase, peak venous phase, late venous phase) CTA was reconstructed from CTP raw data, and VO was evaluated on three-phases CTA, respectively. Favorable VO was regarded as a cortical vein opacification score of 3-6, and unfavorable VO as a score of 0-2. Good outcome was defined as modified Rankin Scale score of 0-2 at 90 days after EVT. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the predictors of good outcome. Prognostic value was assessed and compared using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Delong test. We found that good outcome was achieved in 85 (56.7%) patients. Among the mCTA-derived VO profiles, only favorable peak venous phase VO was found to be independently associated with good outcome (P < 0.001). After integrating favorable peak venous phase VO with lower post-treatment National Institute of Health Stroke Scale score at 24 hours, successful recanalization and favorable hypoperfusion intensity ratio, the predictive ability for a good outcome was significantly improved than before (area under the ROC curve; 0.947 vs 0.881; P = 0.002). This study supports that favorable peak venous VO profiles on mCTA might be a promising biomarker in predicting the good outcome in patients with AIS after EVT.

Abstract
Background Approximately 4.4 million children die peripartum annually, primarily in low- and middle-income countries. Accurate mortality tracking is essential to prioritising prevention efforts but is undermined by misclassification between stillbirths (SBs) and early neonatal deaths (ENNDs) in household surveys, which serve as key data sources. We explored and quantified associations between peripartum provider-mother interactions and misclassification of SBs and ENNDs in Guinea-Bissau. Methods Using a case-control design, we followed up on women who had reported a SB or ENND in a retrospective household survey nested in the Bandim Health Project's Health and Demographic Surveillance Systems (HDSS). Using prospective HDSS registration as the reference standard, we linked the survey-reported deaths to the corresponding HDSS records and cross-tabulated SB/ENND classification to identify cases (discordant classification between survey and HDSS) and controls (concordant classification). We further interviewed cases and controls on peripartum provider-mother interactions and analysed data using descriptive statistics and logistic regressions. Results We interviewed 278 women (cases: 63 (23%); controls: 215 (77%)). Most cases were SBs misclassified as ENNDs (n/N = 49/63 (78%)). Three-fourths of the interviewed women reported having received no updates on the progress of labour and baby's health intrapartum, and less than one-fourth inquired about this information. In comparison with births where women did inquire for information, misclassification was less likely when women did not inquire and recalled no doubts about progress of labour (odds ratio (OR) = 0.51; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.28-0.91), or baby's health (OR = 0.54; 95% CI = 0.30-0.97). Most women reported that service providers' death notifications lasted <5 minutes (cases: 23/27 (85%); controls: 61/71 (86%)), and most often encompassed neither events leading to the death (cases: 19/27 (70%); controls: 55/71 (77%)) nor causes of death (cases: 20/27 (74%); controls: 54/71 (76%)). Misclassification was more likely if communication lasted <1 compared to 1-4 minutes (OR = 1.83; 95% CI = 1.10-3.06) and if a formal service provider had informed the mother of the death compared to a family member (OR = 1.57; 95% CI = 1.04-2.36). Conclusions Peripartum provider-mother interactions are limited in Guinea-Bissau and associated with birth outcome misclassifications in retrospective household surveys. In our study population, misclassification led to overestimated neonatal mortality.

Abstract
Light climate environment (LCE) has a significant impact on human health, behavioral characteristics, and the safety of life and property due to the high albedo of snow on the ground cover type, which in turn affects the regional climate and socio-economic development, but less relevant studies have been found. In this study, the effect of snow on daytime and nighttime light levels was quantified using comparative field observations and controlled experiments in artificial climate chambers, combined with analysis of variance and model fitting. The results of the study found that there was a significant difference between the presence and absence of snow on both daytime and nighttime light levels. During daytime, the ambient light level on the ground with snow is 5.68 times higher than without snow, an improvement of 12,711.06 Lux. At night, with moonlight, the nighttime illuminance with and without snow is 0.213 Lux and 0.01 Lux, respectively. When there is no moonlight, the snow has no significant effect on the light level. In addition, significant differences in LCE intensity with different snow depths, snow densities and black carbon (BC) pollution. At the same background light intensity, the LCE intensity varies significantly with increasing snow depth, snow density and BC pollution. The results reveals the quantitative impact of snow on LCE, providing scientific support for regional natural light energy use, human health and safety, urban environmental management and economic development.

Abstract
Honey bees play an important role in the ecological environment. Regrettably, a decline in honey bee colonies caused by chemical insecticides has occurred throughout the world. Potential stereoselective toxicity of chiral insecticides may be a hidden source of danger to bee colonies. In this study, the stereoselective exposure risk and mechanism of malathion and its chiral metabolite malaoxon were investigated. The absolute configurations were identified using an electron circular dichroism (ECD) model. Ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was used for chiral separation. In pollen, the initial residues of malathion and malaoxon enantiomers were 3571-3619 and 397-402 μg/kg, respectively, and R-malathion degraded relatively slowly. The oral LD50 values of R-malathion and S-malathion were 0.187 and 0.912 μg/bee with 5 times difference, respectively, and the malaoxon values were 0.633 and 0.766 μg/bee. The Pollen Hazard Quotient (PHQ) was used to evaluate exposure risk. R-malathion showed a higher risk. An analysis of the proteome, including Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and subcellular localization, indicated that energy metabolism and neurotransmitter transport were the main affected pathways. Our results provide a new scheme for the evaluation of the stereoselective exposure risk of chiral pesticides to honey bees.

Abstract
Tembotrione is a new triketone HPPD herbicide widely used in Europe, USA, and other areas. However, tembotrione is moderately to highly toxic to algae and daphnia in aquatic ecosystems. In this study, hydrolysis, photolysis, soil degradation, soil adsorption, and bioaccumulation of tembotrione were systematically studied. Hydrolysis experiment revealed that tembotrione was stable in acidic, neutral, and alkaline conditions with half-lives of 231-289 days. The photolysis half-lives of tembotrione were 112-158 days and 76-107 days in pH 4, 7, 9 buffer solutions and on three soils surface, respectively, which demonstrated that tembotrione could be persisted in soil and water. Meanwhile, tembotrione Kfoc was 128-196 mL/g, indicating that tembotrione was not easily adsorbed to soil, and the adsorption capacity increased with the decrease in pH. The half-lives of tembotrione in the test soil were 32-48 days, and high organic matter soil is conducive to microbial activity and accelerates the degradation of tembotrione. Moreover, bioaccumulation experiment demonstrated that tembotrione with a BCF of 0.664 to 0.724 had a low risk of exposure to zebrafish. This study is very helpful for the evaluation environmental risk and safe use of tembotrione.

Abstract
Hard carbons, an important category of amorphous carbons, are non-graphitizable and are widely accepted as the most promising anode material for the emerging sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) because of their changeable low-potential charge/discharge plateaus. However, their microstructures are not fixed as layer-structured graphitic materials do and are difficult to accurately demonstrate. The successful use of hard carbons in SIBs revives the interests to give a clear picture of their complicated microstructures that are in close relevance to the sodium storage. In this review, we start by revisiting the past definitions and structural models of hard carbons, and then present our renewed understanding of their sodium storage mechanism, focusing especially on the critical low-potential plateaus. Three critical structural features are highlighted for hard carbons, namely crystallites, defects and nanopores, which are directly responsible for the presence of the low-potential plateaus and their reversible extension. The impact of these structural features upon the sodium storage is then deeply discussed and an ideal configuration, namely sieving carbons with tightened pore entrance and enlarged pore body, is finally proposed for superhigh sodium storage. We expect this review to offer a clear picture of hard carbons, and help realize a truly rational design of high-capacity carbon anodes engining the industrialization of SIBs, and more promisingly open up a window for exploring their possible new uses. Abstract
Fluindapyr is a novel chiral succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor used to control fungal diseases. The enantioselective effects of fluindapyr in paddy ecosystems are unknown. We developed a new chiral determination method of fluindapyr using ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The absolute configuration of the fluindapyr enantiomers was identified by an electron circular dichroism model. A new husk-based biochar material was used to optimize and establish a QuEchERs method for paddy soil determination. Under anaerobic conditions, the half-lives of R-fluindapyr and S-fluindapyr in paddy soil were 69.6 and 101.8 days, respectively. R-fluindapyr degraded more rapidly than S-fluindapyr. S-fluindapyr was 87.8 times more active against Rhizoctonia solani than R-fluindapyr. The enantioselective bioactivity mechanism was illustrated by molecular docking between the fluindapyr enantiomers and SDH of R. solani. The binding powers of R-fluindapyr and S-fluindapyr to proteins were -32.12 and - 42.91 kcal/mol, respectively. This study reports the stereoselectivity of fluindapyr about determination, degradation, bioactivity, and its mechanism. It provides a foundation for an in-depth study of fluindapyr at the enantiomer level.

Abstract
Chlorfenapyr, as a highly effective and low-toxicity insect growth regulation inhibitor, has been used to control cross-cruciferous vegetable pests. However, the pesticide residue caused by its application threatens human health. In this paper, the residue digestion and final residue of chlorfenapyr in radish were studied in a field experiment. The results of the dynamic digestion test showed that the half-life of chlorfenapyr in radish leaves ranged from 6.0 to 6.4 days, and the digestion rate was fast. The median residual values of chlorfenapyr in radish and radish leaves at 14 days after treatment were 0.12 and 3.92 mg/kg, respectively. The results of the dietary intake risk assessment showed that the national estimated daily intake (NEDI) of chlorfenapyr in various populations in China were 0.373 and 5.66 µg/(kg bw·d), respectively. The risk entropy (RQ) was 0.012 and 0.147, respectively, indicating that the chronic dietary intake risk of chlorfenapyr in radish was low. The results of this study provided data support and a theoretical basis for guiding the scientific use of chlorfenapyr in radish production and evaluating the dietary risk of chlorfenapyr in vegetables.

Abstract
Ricinus communis is an important oilseed crop worldwide and is also considered one of the best potential plants for salt-affected soil improvement in northeast China. However, little is known about photosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism in this plant, nor the distribution of carbohydrates in cotyledons and roots under salinity stress. In the present study, seedling growth, gas exchange parameters (PN , E, gs and Ci ), carbohydrate (fructose, sucrose, glucose, soluble sugar and starch) metabolism and related enzymes and genes were measured in Ricinus plants. Under salt stress, PN of cotyledons decreased significantly (P < 0.05), resulting in weak photosynthetic capacity. Furthermore, salt stress increased sucrose and glucose content in cotyledons, but decreased soluble sugar and starch content. However, sucrose increased and starch decreased in roots. This may be correlated with the increasing sugar metabolism under salinity, including notable changes in sugar-related enzyme activities (SPS, SuSy, α-amylase and β-amylase) and gene expression of RcINV, RcSUS, RcAmY, RcBAM and RcGBE1. The results suggest that salinity reduces photosynthesis of cotyledons, alters carbohydrate allocation between cotyledons and roots and also promotes starch utilization in cotyledons and starch biosynthesis in roots, leading to a functional imbalance between cotyledons and roots. Together, these findings provide insights into the crucial role of sugar metabolism in improving salt-tolerance of Ricinus during the early seedling growth stage.

Abstract
Background China accounts for 13% of the world’s 5-19-year-olds population. We estimated levels and trends of mortality by sex-age-cause among 5-19-year-olds at national and subnational levels in China annually from 2004 to 2019, to inform strategies for reducing child and adolescent mortality in China and other countries. Methods We used adjusted empirical data on levels and causes of deaths from the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Disease Surveillance Point (DSP) system. We considered underreporting and surveillance sampling design, applied smoothing techniques to produce reliable time trends, and fitted age-specific deaths and population to national estimates produced by international agencies to allow for cross-national comparisons. Results The top leading causes for 54 594 deaths among 5-19-year-olds were neoplasms, road traffic injuries, and drowning. All-cause mortality in 5-19-year-olds has been declining steadily between 2004-2019, with evident yet narrowing geographical and gender disparities. Injury mortalities were one of the fastest declining causes, but widespread disparities were observed across subpopulations. Falling injuries and rising non-communicable diseases had the most pronounced epidemiological transition in the eastern region. Decrease in drowning fractions stalled for 15-19-year-olds in central/western rural areas. Suicide shares sustained or increased for 15-19-year-olds except among females in eastern rural areas. Conclusions China made significant improvements in child and adolescent survival since 2004. However, constant targeted investments are needed to maintain and accelerate progress. A sustainable sample registration system like the DSP is likely essential for supporting such a process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Our study aimed to compare the time consumption and success rate between CTA- and CTP- based assessment strategy, and to clarify the risk factors associated with the CTP scan failure. METHODS Clinical and radiological data of 437 consecutive AIS patients who underwent multiphase CTA or CTP for pre-treatment evaluation were retrospectively enrolled (CTA group, n = 302; CTP group, n = 135). Time consumption and success rate of CTA- and CTP- based assessment strategy were compared using Mann-Whitney U test and Chi-Squared Test. Univariate analysis and receiver operating curve analysis were used to clarify the risk factors, and their performance in predicting the CTP scan failure. RESULTS Time consumption of CTP scan and reconstruction was significantly longer than that of CTA [775 s vs 263.5 s, P < 0.001]. CTP scan showed significantly higher failure rate than CTA (11% vs 1%, P < 0.001). Severe motion was the most common cause of CTP failure (n = 12, 80%). Baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score in CTP failure group was significantly higher than that in CTP success group [17 vs 13, P = 0.007]. Baseline NIHSS score of 11 was the optimal threshold value to predict CTP failure with an area under the curve of 0.715, a sensitivity of 86.7%, and a specificity of 45.0%. CONCLUSIONS CTP- based strategy showed longer time consumption and higher failure rate than CTA- based strategy. High baseline NIHSS score was significantly associated with CTP scan failure in AIS patients.

Abstract
The musical beat and style recognition have high application value in music information retrieval. However, the traditional methods mostly use a convolutional neural network (CNN) as the backbone and have poor performance. Accordingly, the present work chooses a recurrent neural network (RNN) in deep learning (DL) to identify musical beats and styles. The proposed model is applied to an interactive humanoid robot. First, DL-based musical beat and style recognition technologies are studied. On this basis, a note beat recognition method combining attention mechanism (AM) and independent RNN (IndRNN) [AM-IndRNN] is proposed. The AM-IndRNN can effectively avoid gradient vanishing and gradient exploding. Second, the audio music files are divided into multiple styles using the music signal's temporal features. A human dancing robot using a multimodal drive is constructed. Finally, the proposed method is tested. The results show that the proposed AM-IndRNN outperforms multiple parallel long short-term memory (LSTM) models and IndRNN in recognition accuracy (88.9%) and loss rate (0.0748). Therefore, the AM-optimized LSTM model has gained a higher recognition accuracy. The research results provide specific ideas for applying DL technology in musical beat and style recognition.

Abstract
Sedaxane was a novel chiral fungicide that contains four enantiomers. Unfortunately, the stereoselective bioactivity, toxicity and degradation of sedaxane have not been clarified. In this study, we identified the absolute configuration of the four sedaxane enantiomers at first time. The stereoselective bioactivity toward three wheat and rice pathogens, stereoselective acute toxicity to aquatic organisms (Selenastrum capricornutum and Daphnia magna), and stereoselective degradation of sedaxane were studied. The 1 S,2S-(+)-sedaxane possessed 5.4-7.3 times greater bioactivity than 1 R,2R-(-)-sedaxane to Rhizoctonia solani and Rhizoctonia cerealis. Contrarily, the 1 R,2S-(+)-sedaxane had 4.2 times greater activity than 1 S,2S-(+)-sedaxane against Fusarium graminearum. The 1 R,2R-(-)-sedaxane had 2.8 times greater toxicity than 1 S,2S-(+)-sedaxane to S. capricornutum. The chiral determination method used ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). The recovery of sedaxane stereoisomers ranged from 83.1 % to 98.2 %, with RSDs (Relative standard deviations) of 1.2 %- 8.4 %. The trans-sedaxane existed stereoselective degradation phenomenon in the rice-wheat rotation mode, and 1 S,2S-(+)-sedaxane was preferentially degraded. Our results would provide scientific importance and practical guidance to the safety evaluation of chiral pesticides.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) is a grading system to assess the extent and distribution of early ischemic changes. PURPOSE To assess inter-rater agreement for total and regional ASPECTS on non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) images, CT angiography source images (CTA-SI), and CT-perfusion cerebral blood volume (CTP-CBV) maps, and their association with final infarction in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 96 consecutive patients with AIS who underwent pre-treatment NCCT and CTP were retrospectively enrolled. CTA-SI was reconstructed using the raw data of CTP. Total and regional ASPECTS were assessed on baseline NCCT, CTA-SI, and CTP-CBV, and on follow-up NCCT or diffusion-weighted imaging. Follow-up ASPECTS served as the reference standard for final infarction. RESULTS CTP-CBV demonstrated higher concordance for total ASPECTS (interclass correlation coefficient, 0.895 vs. 0.771 vs. 0.777) and regional ASPECTS in internal capsule, lentiform, caudate nuclei, M5 and M6, compared with NCCT and CTA-SI. CTP-CBV showed a trend of stronger correlation with final ASPECTS than NCCT and CTA-SI (0.717 vs. 0.711 vs. 0.565; P > 0.05). ASPECTS in the internal capsule (ρ, 0.756 vs. 0.556; P = 0.016) and caudate nucleus (ρ, 0.717 vs. 0.476; P = 0.010) on CTP-CBV were more strongly correlated with follow-up ASPECTS than NCCT. CTP-CBV showed higher accuracy for predicting final infarction in the internal capsule (92.5% vs. 90.3% and 87.1%; P > 1.000, P = 0.125, respectively) and caudate nucleus (87.1% vs. 79.6% and 77.4%; P = 0.453, P = 0.039, respectively) than CTA-SI and NCCT. CONCLUSION CTP-CBV ASPECTS might be more reliable for delineating early ischemic changes and predicting final infarction.

Abstract
Background: Mesenchymal cancer cells, resistant to the traditional regulated cell death, are exquisitely vulnerable to ferroptosis. However, the underlying mechanism has been rarely studied. While glycolipid metabolism rewiring is a critical determination of both cancer cell mesenchymal phenotype and cell death resistance, we are interested in the underlying cross talk between glycolipid metabolism and mesenchymal cancer cell ferroptosis sensitivity. Methods: CCK-8, western blot and clone forming assay were used to access the effect of glucose on mesenchymal cancer cell ferroptosis susceptibility and O-GlcNAcylation level. GEPIA database, shRNA knockdown and various pharmacological inhibitors were used to analyze the relationship between O-GlcNAcylation and mesenchymal cancer cell ferroptosis in vitro and in vivo. A series of experiments were conducted to investigate the underlying mechanisms of glucose induced ZEB1 O-GlcNAcylation on mesenchymal cancer cell ferroptosis susceptibility. Results: Mesenchymal pancreatic cancer cells O-GlcNAcylation level and ferroptosis cell death was significantly increased under high glucose condition in vitro and in vivo. O-GlcNAcylation of ZEB1, rather than other transcription factors, was involved in this process. Mechanistically, glucose triggered ZEB1 O-GlcNAcylation at Ser555 site enhanced its stabilization and nuclear translocation, induced lipogenesis associated genes, FASN and FADS2, transcription activity, which ultimately resulted in lipid peroxidation dependent mesenchymal pancreatic cancer cell ferroptosis. Conclusions: These results identify a novel role of glycolipid metabolism and O-GlcNAcylation in mesenchymal cancer cells ferroptosis susceptibility, which broaden the molecular mechanism of ferroptosis and suggested a potential clinical therapeutic strategy for refractory tumors.

Abstract
Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) are typical endocrine disruptors which are ubiquitous contaminants. Human exposure to PAEs is through multiple routes of which the diet is recognised as the main source of daily intake. The aim of this study was to evaluate the dietary exposure to PAEs of residents in Shenzhen (China) through a total diet study and assess the potential health risk. A total of 16 different phthalate esters in samples of 12 composite food groups were determined by GC-MS. The main dietary sources of PAE exposure among adult residents in Shenzhen were potatoes (21%), eggs (21%), meat (15%) and aquatic products (14%). The median total dietary exposure to PAEs in Shenzhen residents was 7780 ng kg-1 bw d-1, and the hazard quotients (HQ) of dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), di-isobutyl phthalate (DIBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) were 0.09, 0.06, 0.07, 0.10 and 0.03, respectively. Therefore, the risks from dietary PAE exposure were low. However, with the increasing use of PAEs and their accumulation in the environment, the probability of PAEs entering the food chain is gradually increasing and, therefore, PAEs should be strictly controlled and regularly monitored.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the diagnostic accuracy of using Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) on CT perfusion (CTP) map to predict a volumetric target mismatch in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). METHODS Three-hundred and seven AIS patients with an onset time within 24h or unclear onset time who underwent CTP evaluation for large vessel occlusion of anterior circulation were enrolled. CTP ASPECTS was evaluated on cerebral blood flow (CBF) and time-to-maximum (Tmax) colored maps, respectively. Automated perfusion analysis software was used to calculate the volumes of ischemic core (volumeCBF<30%) and tissue at risk (volumeTmax>6s). Target mismatch was defined as volumeCBF< 30%<70ml, volumemismatch≥15ml, and volumeTmax >6s/volume CBF< 30%≥1.8. Spearman correlation and receiver operating characteristic curves were used for statistical analyses. RESULTS Strong correlations were found between CBF ASPECTS and volumeCBF<30%, and between Tmax ASPECTS and volumeTmax>6s for overall population (ρ=-0.872, -0.757) and late-arriving patients (ρ=-0.900, -0.789). Mismatch ASPECTS moderately correlated with mismatch volume for overall population (ρ=0.498) and late-arriving patients (ρ=0.407). A CBF ASPECTS≥5 optimally predicted an ischemic core volume<70ml in overall population (sensitivity, 94.4%; specificity, 80.4%) and late-arriving patients (sensitivity, 89.5%; specificity, 90.5%). A CBF ASPECTS≥6 combined with a Mismatch ASPECTS≥1 optimally identified a target mismatch in overall population (sensitivity, 84.5%; specificity, 77.0%) and late-arriving patients (sensitivity, 83.7%; specificity, 90.0%). CONCLUSION CTP ASPECTS might be useful in predicting target mismatch derived from automated perfusion analysis software, and assisting in patient selection for endovascular therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Balancing the safety and efficiency of chiral pesticides can help protect pollinators. We evaluated the stereoselective behavior, bioactivity, toxicity and exposure risk of the chiral insecticide pyriproxyfen in a citrus nectar system. RESULTS Density functional theory (DFT) and ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectroscopy (UPLC-MS/MS) were applied for absolute configuration appraisal and chiral analysis validation, respectively. The recoveries ranged from 72.3% to 100.5% with an relative standard deviation (RSD) ranging from 1.2% to 9.7%. In a field trial, we determined insecticide half-lives in citrus leaves and flowers, which were 7.0 and 8.6 days for R-(+)-pyriproxyfen, and 11.7 and 14.7 days for S-(-)-pyriproxyfen, respectively. We found that the bioactivity of R-(+)-pyriproxyfen was 3.39 and 2.37 times higher than S-(-)-pyriproxyfen against Unaspis yanonensis and Diaphorina citri nymphs, respectively. S-(-)-pyriproxyfen had 3.8 times higher acute toxicity than R-(+)-pyriproxyfen on Apis mellifera L., and its exposure risk was moderate based on the hazard quotient. CONCLUSION The phenomenon of stereoselective degradation and biological effect demonstrated that the high-risk stereoisomer of S-(-)-pyriproxyfen degraded more slowly than R-(+)-pyriproxyfen, but R-(+)-pyriproxyfen with better efficiency for target. Therefore, an increased duration of R-(+)-pyriproxyfen activity on citrus was beneficial for efficacy. Our results could guide the scientific application and evaluation of chiral pesticides on nectar plants. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Mortality is associated with long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (particulate matter ≤2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter; PM2.5), although the magnitude and form of these associations remain poorly understood at lower concentrations. Knowledge gaps include the shape of concentration-response curves and the lowest levels of exposure at which increased risks are evident and the occurrence and extent of associations with specific causes of death. Here, we applied improved estimates of exposure to ambient PM2.5 to national population-based cohorts in Canada, including a stacked cohort of 7.1 million people who responded to census year 1991, 1996, or 2001. The characterization of the shape of the concentration-response relationship for nonaccidental mortality and several specific causes of death at low levels of exposure was the focus of the Mortality-Air Pollution Associations in Low Exposure Environments (MAPLE) Phase 1 report. In the Phase 1 report we reported that associations between outdoor PM2.5 concentrations and nonaccidental mortality were attenuated with the addition of ozone (O3) or a measure of gaseous pollutant oxidant capacity (Ox), which was estimated from O3 and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations. This was motivated by our interests in understanding both the effects air pollutant mixtures may have on mortality and also the role of O3 as a copollutant that shares common sources and precursor emissions with those of PM2.5. In this Phase 2 report, we further explore the sensitivity of these associations with O3 and Ox, evaluate sensitivity to other factors, such as regional variation, and present ambient PM2.5 concentration-response relationships for specific causes of death. METHODS PM2.5 concentrations were estimated at 1 km2 spatial resolution across North America using remote sensing of aerosol optical depth (AOD) combined with chemical transport model (GEOS-Chem) simulations of the AOD:surface PM2.5 mass concentration relationship, land use information, and ground monitoring. These estimates were informed and further refined with collocated measurements of PM2.5 and AOD, including targeted measurements in areas of low PM2.5 concentrations collected at five locations across Canada. Ground measurements of PM2.5 and total suspended particulate matter (TSP) mass concentrations from 1981 to 1999 were used to backcast remote-sensing-based estimates over that same time period, resulting in modeled annual surfaces from 1981 to 2016. Annual exposures to PM2.5 were then estimated for subjects in several national population-based Canadian cohorts using residential histories derived from annual postal code entries in income tax files. These cohorts included three census-based cohorts: the 1991 Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort (CanCHEC; 2.5 million respondents), the 1996 CanCHEC (3 million respondents), the 2001 CanCHEC (3 million respondents), and a Stacked CanCHEC where duplicate records of respondents were excluded (Stacked CanCHEC; 7.1 million respondents). The Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) mortality cohort (mCCHS), derived from several pooled cycles of the CCHS (540,900 respondents), included additional individual information about health behaviors. Follow-up periods were completed to the end of 2016 for all cohorts. Cox proportional hazard ratios (HRs) were estimated for nonaccidental and other major causes of death using a 10-year moving average exposure and 1-year lag. All models were stratified by age, sex, immigrant status, and where appropriate, census year or survey cycle. Models were further adjusted for income adequacy quintile, visible minority status, Indigenous identity, educational attainment, labor-force status, marital status, occupation, and ecological covariates of community size, airshed, urban form, and four dimensions of the Canadian Marginalization Index (Can-Marg; instability, deprivation, dependency, and ethnic concentration). The mCCHS analyses were also adjusted for individual-level measures of smoking, alcohol consumption, fruit and vegetable consumption, body mass index (BMI), and exercise behavior. In addition to linear models, the shape of the concentration-response function was investigated using restricted cubic splines (RCS). The number of knots were selected by minimizing the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). Two additional models were used to examine the association between nonaccidental mortality and PM2.5. The first is the standard threshold model defined by a transformation of concentration equaling zero if the concentration was less than a specific threshold value and concentration minus the threshold value for concentrations above the threshold. The second additional model was an extension of the Shape Constrained Health Impact Function (SCHIF), the eSCHIF, which converts RCS predictions into functions potentially more suitable for use in health impact assessments. Given the RCS parameter estimates and their covariance matrix, 1,000 realizations of the RCS were simulated at concentrations from the minimum to the maximum concentration, by increments of 0.1 μg/m3. An eSCHIF was then fit to each of these RCS realizations. Thus, 1,000 eSCHIF predictions and uncertainty intervals were determined at each concentration within the total range. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to examine associations between PM2.5 and mortality when in the presence of, or stratified by tertile of, O3 or Ox. Additionally, associations between PM2.5 and mortality were assessed for sensitivity to lower concentration thresholds, where person-years below a threshold value were assigned the mean exposure within that group. We also examined the sensitivity of the shape of the nonaccidental mortality-PM2.5 association to removal of person-years at or above 12 μg/m3 (the current U.S. National Ambient Air Quality Standard) and 10 μg/m3 (the current Canadian and former [2005] World Health Organization [WHO] guideline, and current WHO Interim Target-4). Finally, differences in the shapes of PM2.5-mortality associations were assessed across broad geographic regions (airsheds) within Canada. RESULTS The refined PM2.5 exposure estimates demonstrated improved performance relative to estimates applied previously and in the MAPLE Phase 1 report, with slightly reduced errors, including at lower ranges of concentrations (e.g., for PM2.5 <10 μg/m3). Positive associations between outdoor PM2.5 concentrations and nonaccidental mortality were consistently observed in all cohorts. In the Stacked CanCHEC analyses (1.3 million deaths), each 10-μg/m3 increase in outdoor PM2.5 concentration corresponded to an HR of 1.084 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.073 to 1.096) for nonaccidental mortality. For an interquartile range (IQR) increase in PM2.5 mass concentration of 4.16 μg/m3 and for a mean annual nonaccidental death rate of 92.8 per 10,000 persons (over the 1991-2016 period for cohort participants ages 25-90), this HR corresponds to an additional 31.62 deaths per 100,000 people, which is equivalent to an additional 7,848 deaths per year in Canada, based on the 2016 population. In RCS models, mean HR predictions increased from the minimum concentration of 2.5 μg/m3 to 4.5 μg/m3, flattened from 4.5 μg/m3 to 8.0 μg/m3, then increased for concentrations above 8.0 μg/m3. The threshold model results reflected this pattern with -2 log-likelihood values being equal at 2.5 μg/m3 and 8.0 μg/m3. However, mean threshold model predictions monotonically increased over the concentration range with the lower 95% CI equal to one from 2.5 μg/m3 to 8.0 μg/m3. The RCS model was a superior predictor compared with any of the threshold models, including the linear model. In the mCCHS cohort analyses inclusion of behavioral covariates did not substantially change the results for both linear and nonlinear models. We examined the sensitivity of the shape of the nonaccidental mortality-PM2.5 association to removal of person-years at or above the current U.S. and Canadian standards of 12 μg/m3 and 10 μg/m3, respectively. In the full cohort and in both restricted cohorts, a steep increase was observed from the minimum concentration of 2.5 μg/m3 to 5 μg/m3. For the full cohort and the <12 μg/m3 cohort the relationship flattened over the 5 to 9 μg/m3 range and then increased above 9 μg/m3. A similar increase was observed for the <10 μg/m3 cohort followed by a clear decline in the magnitude of predictions over the 5 to 9 μg/m3 range and an increase above 9 μg/m3. Together these results suggest that a positive association exists for concentrations >9 μg/m3 with indications of adverse effects on mortality at concentrations as low as 2.5 μg/m3. Among the other causes of death examined, PM2.5 exposures were consistently associated with an increased hazard of mortality due to ischemic heart disease, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes across all cohorts. Associations were observed in the Stacked CanCHEC but not in all other cohorts for cerebrovascular disease, pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) mortality. No significant associations were observed between mortality and exposure to PM2.5 for heart failure, lung cancer, and kidney failure. In sensitivity analyses, the addition of O3 and Ox attenuated associations between PM2.5 and mortality. When analyses were stratified by tertiles of copollutants, associations between PM2.5 and mortality were only observed in the highest tertile of O3 or Ox. Across broad regions of Canada, linear HR estimates and the shape of the eSCHIF varied substantially, possibly reflecting underlying differences in air pollutant mixtures not characterized by PM2.5 mass concentrations or the included gaseous pollutants. Sensitivity analyses to assess regional variation in population characteristics and access to healthcare indicated that the observed regional differences in concentration-mortality relationships, specifically the flattening of the concentration-mortality relationship over the 5 to 9 μg/m3 range, was not likely related to variation in the makeup of the cohort or its access to healthcare, lending support to the potential role of spatially varying air pollutant mixtures not sufficiently characterized by PM2.5 mass concentrations. CONCLUSIONS In several large, national Canadian cohorts, including a cohort of 7.1 million unique census respondents, associations were observed between exposure to PM2.5 with nonaccidental mortality and several specific causes of death. Associations with nonaccidental mortality were observed using the eSCHIF methodology at concentrations as low as 2.5 μg/m3, and there was no clear evidence in the observed data of a lower threshold, below which PM2.5 was not associated with nonaccidental mortality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the prognostic value of Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) on post-treatment diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and compare it with that of infarction volume. METHODS Ninety-eight consecutive AIS patients who underwent EVT and post-treatment DWI were retrospectively enrolled. ASPECTS and infarction volume were evaluated based on post-treatment DWI, respectively. Good clinical outcome was defined as modified Rankin Scale score of 0-2 at 90 days. Predictors of good clinical outcome were evaluated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Prognostic value of post-treatment DWI ASPECTS and infarction volume were assessed and compared using receiver-operating-characteristic curves and the DeLong method. RESULTS Favorable outcome was achieved in 62 (63.3%) patients. A strong correlation was found between post-treatment DWI ASPECTS and infarction volume (ρ = -0.847). Due to strong correlation and potential collinearity, two multivariate logistic regression models were respectively developed which included post-treatment DWI ASPECTS or infarction volume. As a result, post-treatment DWI ASPECTS (OR, 2.401; 95%CI, 1.567-3.678; p < 0.001) and infarction volume (OR, 0.982; 95%CI, 0.846-0.998; p = 0.002) were both independent predictors of good clinical outcome. Setting post-treatment DWI ASPECTS ≥ 6 as a cut-off value, optimal performance (AUC = 0.836; sensitivity, 87.1%; specificity, 66.7%) could be obtained in predicting good clinical outcome, which was comparable with that of infarction volume (cut-off volume, ≤ 94.87 ml; AUC = 0.821; sensitivity, 90.3%; specificity, 55.6%). CONCLUSIONS Post-treatment DWI ASPECTS might be a potential surrogate of infarction volume and be effective in predicting the clinical outcome of AIS patients after EVT. KEY POINTS • Post-treatment DWI ASPECTS correlated significantly with infarction volume. • A post-treatment DWI ASPECTS ≥ 6 best predicts good outcomes for AIS patients after EVT. • Post-treatment DWI ASPECTS has the potential in substituting infarction volume in predicting the clinical outcome of AIS patients.

Abstract
In order to implement disease-specific interventions in young age groups, policy makers in low- and middle-income countries require timely and accurate estimates of age- and cause-specific child mortality. High-quality data is not available in settings where these interventions are most needed, but there is a push to create sample registration systems that collect detailed mortality information. current methods that estimate mortality from this data employ multistage frameworks without rigorous statistical justification that separately estimate all-cause and cause-specific mortality and are not sufficiently adaptable to capture important features of the data. We propose a flexible Bayesian modeling framework to estimate age- and cause-specific child mortality from sample registration data. We provide a theoretical justification for the framework, explore its properties via simulation, and use it to estimate mortality trends using data from the Maternal and Child Health Surveillance System in China.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the effect of dihydromyricetin on the expression of miR-98-5p and its mechanism in the development of Herceptin resistance in SKBR3 cells. METHODS The expression of IGF2 and miR-98-5p and their interaction relationship were analyzed by bioinformatics analysis through TargetScan online databases. SKBR3 cells and drug-resistant SKBR3-R cells were cultured in cell experiments. Xenograft tumor mice were constructed by SKBR3 and SKBR3-R cells. Proteins were detected by western blotting and immunohistochemistry. Transfected cells were constructed by shRNA lentivirus vectors. RT-QPCR was used to detect RNA. Cell proliferation was detected by MTS method. Cell jnvasion was detected by Transwell assay. Luciferase reporting assays were used to verify RNA interactions. IGF-1R/HER2 heterodimer was determined by immunocoprecipitation. RESULTS The expression of IGF2, p-IGF1R, p-Akt and p-S6K in SKBR3-R cells were significantly higher than those in SKBR3 cells, while the expression of PTEN protein was lower in SKBR3-R cells (P < 0.05). IGF1R/HER2 heterodimer in SKBR3-R cells was significantly increased (P < 0.01).The expression of IGF2 and invasion ability were significantly reduced while transfected with miR-98-5p in SKBR3-R cells (P < 0.05), but the IGF2 mRNA were no difference in both cells (P > 0.05). The expression of miR-98-5p was up-regulated and IGF2 was decreased in drug-resistant xenograft tumor mice after feeding with dihydromyricetin, and the tumor became more sensitivity to Herceptin (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Dihydromyricetin could induce the expression of miR-98-5p, which binds to IGF2 mRNA to reduce IGF2 expression, inhibit the IGF-1R/HER2 formation, thereby reversing cell resistance to Herceptin in SKBR3-R cells.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The mortality pattern from birth to age five is known to vary by underlying cause of mortality, which has been documented in multiple instances. Many countries without high functioning vital registration systems could benefit from estimates of age- and cause-specific mortality to inform health programming, however, to date the causes of under-five death have only been described for broad age categories such as for neonates (0-27 days), infants (0-11 months), and children age 12-59 months. METHODS We adapt the log quadratic model to mortality patterns for children under five to all-cause child mortality and then to age- and cause-specific mortality (U5ACSM). We apply these methods to empirical sample registration system mortality data in China from 1996 to 2015. Based on these empirical data, we simulate probabilities of mortality in the case when the true relationships between age and mortality by cause are known. RESULTS We estimate U5ACSM within 0.1-0.7 deaths per 1000 livebirths in hold out strata for life tables constructed from the China sample registration system, representing considerable improvement compared to an error of 1.2 per 1000 livebirths using a standard approach. This improved prediction error for U5ACSM is consistently demonstrated for all-cause as well as pneumonia- and injury-specific mortality. We also consistently identified cause-specific mortality patterns in simulated mortality scenarios. CONCLUSION The log quadratic model is a significant improvement over the standard approach for deriving U5ACSM based on both simulation and empirical results.

Abstract
Curcumin, a well-known hydrophobic polyphenol extracted from the rhizomes of turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), has attracted great interest in the last ten years due to its multiple pharmacological activities. A growing body of evidence has manifested that curcumin has extensive pharmacological activities including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxygenation, lipid regulation, antiviral, and anticancer with hypotoxicity and minor adverse reactions. However, the disadvantages of low bioavailability, short half-life in plasma, low drug concentration in blood, and poor oral absorption severely limited the clinical application of curcumin. Pharmaceutical researchers have carried out plenty of dosage form transformations to improve the druggability of curcumin and have achieved remarkable results. Therefore, the objective of this review summarizes the pharmacological research progress, problems in clinical application and the improvement methods of curcumin's druggability. By reviewing the latest research progress of curcumin, we believe that curcumin has a broad clinical application prospect for its wide range of pharmacological activities with few side effects. The deficiencies of lower bioavailability of curcumin could be improved by dosage form transformation. However, curcumin in the clinical application still requires further study regarding the underlying mechanism and clinical trial verification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Target mismatch (ischemic core, mismatch volume and mismatch ratio) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) highly relies on the automated perfusion analysis software. PURPOSE To evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of using the ABC/2 method to rapidly estimate the target mismatch on computed tomography perfusion (CTP) imaging in patients with AIS, using RAPID results as a reference. MATERIAL AND METHODS In total, 243 patients with anterior circulation AIS who underwent CTP imaging were retrospectively reviewed. Target mismatch associated perfusion parameters were derived from RAPID results and calculated using the ABC/2 method. Paired t-test was used to assess the difference of volumetric parameters between the two methods. The ability of using the ABC/2 method to predict the important cutoff volumetric metrics was also evaluated. RESULT There was no significant difference in the volumes of ischemic core (P = 0.068), ischemic area (P = 0.209), and mismatch volume (P = 0.518) between ABC/2 and RAPID. Using RAPID results as reference, the ABC/2 method showed high accuracy for predicting perfusion parameters (70 mL and 90 mL: sensitivity=98.5% and 98.5%, specificity=100% and 100%, positive predictive value [PPV]=100% and 100%, negative predictive value [NPV]=93.8% and 92.9%; 10 mL and 15mL: sensitivity=99.6% and 99.5%, specificity=55.6% and 50.0%, PPV=96.6% and 94.8%, NPV=90.9% and 92.3%; 1.2 and 1.8: sensitivity=99.6% and 94.8%, specificity=75.0% and 96.9%, PPV=98.7% and 99.5%, NPV=90.0% and 73.8%). CONCLUSION The ABC/2 method may be a feasible alternative to RAPID for estimation of target mismatch parameters on CTP in patients with AIS.

Abstract
PURPOSE To estimate the prevalence of current and past COVID-19 in Ohio adults. METHODS We used stratified, probability-proportionate-to-size cluster sampling. During July 2020, we enrolled 727 randomly-sampled adult English- and Spanish-speaking participants through a household survey. Participants provided nasopharyngeal swabs and blood samples to detect current and past COVID-19. We used Bayesian latent class models with multilevel regression and poststratification to calculate the adjusted prevalence of current and past COVID-19. We accounted for the potential effects of non-ignorable non-response bias. RESULTS The estimated statewide prevalence of current COVID-19 was 0.9% (95% credible interval: 0.1-2.0%), corresponding to ∼85,000 prevalent infections (95% credible interval: 6,300-177,000) in Ohio adults during the study period. The estimated statewide prevalence of past COVID-19 was 1.3% (95% credible interval: 0.2-2.7%), corresponding to ∼118,000 Ohio adults (95% credible interval: 22,000-240,000). Estimates did not change meaningfully due to non-response bias. CONCLUSIONS Total COVID-19 cases in Ohio in July 2020 were approximately 3.5 times as high as diagnosed cases. The lack of broad COVID-19 screening in the United States early in the pandemic resulted in a paucity of population-representative prevalence data, limiting the ability to measure the effects of statewide control efforts.

Abstract
A chondrocyte-to-osteoblast lineage continuum exists in the growth plate. Adipogenic differentiation of chondrocytes in vivo should be investigated. Here, unilateral anterior crossbite (UAC), which can induce osteoarthritic lesions in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), was applied to 6-wk-old C57BL/6 mice. Matrix loss in TMJ cartilage was obvious, as demonstrated by safranin O staining, and the condylar cartilage elastic modulus values, detected by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), were reduced, indicating cartilage softening that might be linked with loss of the highly charged proteoglycan. By crossing the Rosa26/tdTomato (TdT) mice with Sox9;CreERT2 mice or with Col10;CreERT2 mice, we obtained the Sox9-TdT and Col10-TdT strains, respectively, in which the Sox9- or Col10-expressing cells, accordingly, were labeled by TdT. A few TdT-labeled cells in both strains expressed AdipoQ or DMP-1. The Sox9-TdT+AdipoQ+ cells were primarily located in the deep zone cartilage and then in the whole cartilage. Col10-TdT+AdipoQ+ cells, Sox9-TdT+DMP-1+ cells, and Col10-TdT+DMP-1+ cells were located in the deep zone region. UAC promoted AdipoQ and DMP-1 expression in cartilage. The percentages of Sox9-TdT+AdipoQ+ and Col10-TdT+AdipoQ+ cells to Sox9-TdT+ and Col10-TdT+ cells, respectively, were increased (both P < 0.05), implying that more chondrocytes were undergoing adipogenic differentiation in the UAC group, the cartilage of which was softened. The percentages of Sox9-TdT+DMP-1+ and Col10-TdT+DMP-1+ cells to Sox9-TdT+ cells and Col10-TdT+ cells, respectively, were increased (both P < 0.05), consistent with our report that UAC enhanced deep zone cartilage calcification, causing stiffening of the deep zone cartilage. Our present data demonstrated that TMJ chondrocyte descendants can become adipogenic in vivo in addition to becoming osteogenic. This potential was promoted in osteoarthritic cartilage, in which deep zone cartilage calcification-associated cartilage stiffening and proteoglycan loss-associated cartilage softening were both stimulated.

Abstract
Over the past 70 years, significant advances have been made in determining the causes of death in populations not served by official medical certification of cause at the time of death using a technique known as Verbal Autopsy (VA). VA involves an interview of the family or caregivers of the deceased after a suitable bereavement interval about the circumstances, signs and symptoms of the deceased in the period leading to death. The VA interview data are then interpreted by physicians or, more recently, computer algorithms, to assign a probable cause of death. VA was originally developed and applied in field research settings. This paper traces the evolution of VA methods with special emphasis on the World Health Organization's (WHO)'s efforts to standardize VA instruments and methods for expanded use in routine health information and vital statistics systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). These advances in VA methods are culminating this year with the release of the 2022 WHO Standard Verbal Autopsy (VA) Toolkit. This paper highlights the many contributions the late Professor Peter Byass made to the current VA standards and methods, most notably, the development of InterVA, the most commonly used automated computer algorithm for interpreting data collected in the WHO standard instruments, and the capacity building in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) that he promoted. This paper also provides an overview of the methods used to improve the current WHO VA standards, a catalogue of the changes and improvements in the instruments, and a mapping of current applications of the WHO VA standard approach in LMICs. It also provides access to tools and guidance needed for VA implementation in Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems at scale.

Abstract
Neonatal deaths (occurring within 28 days of birth) account for close to one-half of all deaths among children under age 5 worldwide. In most low- and middle-income countries, data on neonatal deaths come primarily from household surveys. We conducted a validation study of survey data on neonatal mortality in Guinea-Bissau (West Africa). We used records from an urban health and demographic surveillance system (HDSS) that monitors child survival prospectively as our reference data set. We selected a stratified sample of 599 women aged 15-49 among residents of the HDSS and collected the birth histories of 422 participants. We cross-tabulated survey and HDSS data. We used a mathematical model to investigate biases in survey estimates of neonatal mortality. Reporting errors in survey data might lead to estimates of the neonatal mortality rate that are too high, which may limit our ability to track progress toward global health objectives.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the suppressing impact of low phosphorus intake on osteoarthritic temporomandibular joint and the possible mechanisms of nuclear acid injury in the insulted chondrocytes. DESIGN Chondrocytes were loaded with fluid flow shear stress (FFSS) with or without low phosphorus medium. Seventy-two mice (sampled at 3-, 7- and 11-wk, n = 6) and forty-eight rats (sampled at 12-wks for different testing purpose, n = 6) were applied with unilateral anterior crossbite (UAC) with or without low phosphorus diet. In the FFSS model, the Ca and P content, molecules related to nucleic acid degradation and the mineral-producing responses in chondrocytes were detected. The effect of culture dish stiffness on chondrocytes osteogenic differentiation was measured. In the UAC model, the content of Ca and P in serum were tested. The condylar cartilage ossification and stiffness were detected using micro-CT, scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope. RESULTS FFSS induced nucleic acid degradation, Pi accumulation and mineral-producing responses in the cultured chondrocytes, all were alleviated by low P medium. Stiffer dish bottoms promoted the osteogenic differentiation of the cultured chondrocytes. UAC stimulated cartilage degeneration and chondrocytes nucleic acid damage, increased PARP 1 and serum P content, and enhanced ossification and stiffening of the cartilage, all were suppressed by low phosphorus diet (all, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Nucleic acid damage takes a role in phosphorus production in osteoarthritic cartilage, contributing to the enhanced mineralization and stiffness of the cartilage that in turn promotes cartilage degradation, which can be alleviated by low phosphorus intake.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To optimize the protocol of meniscus cell extraction to enhance the efficiency of cell suspension preparation and maintain a high cell viability for single-cell RNA sequencing. METHODS We compared the efficiency of the routine cell extraction methods (short-time digestion and long-time digestion) and the optimized protocol for obtaining meniscus cell suspensions by evaluating the cell number obtained and the cell viability. Single-cell RNA sequencing datasets were analyzed to evaluate the stability of the cell suspension prepared using the optimized protocol. The reliability of the optimized protocol was assessed by comparing the single-cell RNA sequencing dataset obtained by the optimized protocol with published single-cell RNA sequencing datasets of the meniscus. RESULTS The optimized protocol harvested a greater number of cells (over 1×105) than the routine protocols. The cell suspension prepared with the optimized protocol showed a cell viability higher than 80%, the highest among the 3 methods. Analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing datasets showed that the ratio of the mitochondrial genes was below 20% in over 80% of the cells. CD34+ cells, MCAM+ cells and COL1A1+ cells were identified in the datasets. Comparison with the publish datasets showed that the optimized protocol was capable of harvesting COL3A1+, COL1A1+, MYLK+, BMP2+, CD93+ and CDK1+ cells. CONCLUSION Single-cell suspension prepared from the meniscus can be stably obtained using the optimized protocol for single-cell RNA sequencing using the 10× Genomics platform.

Abstract
Globally, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has infected more than 59 million people and killed more than 1.39 million. Designing and monitoring interventions to slow and stop the spread of the virus require knowledge of how many people have been and are currently infected, where they live, and how they interact. The first step is an accurate assessment of the population prevalence of past infections. There are very few population-representative prevalence studies of SARS-CoV-2 infections, and only two states in the United States-Indiana and Connecticut-have reported probability-based sample surveys that characterize statewide prevalence of SARS-CoV-2. One of the difficulties is the fact that tests to detect and characterize SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus antibodies are new, are not well characterized, and generally function poorly. During July 2020, a survey representing all adults in the state of Ohio in the United States collected serum samples and information on protective behavior related to SARS-CoV-2 and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Several features of the survey make it difficult to estimate past prevalence: 1) a low response rate; 2) a very low number of positive cases; and 3) the fact that multiple poor-quality serological tests were used to detect SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. We describe a Bayesian approach for analyzing the biomarker data that simultaneously addresses these challenges and characterizes the potential effect of selective response. The model does not require survey sample weights; accounts for multiple imperfect antibody test results; and characterizes uncertainty related to the sample survey and the multiple imperfect, potentially correlated tests.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The absolute number of pneumonia deaths in India has declined substantially since 2000. However, pneumonia remains a major cause of morbidity in children in the country. We used a risk factor-based model to estimate pneumonia and severe pneumonia morbidity in Indian states in 2000 and 2015. METHODS In this modelling study, we estimated the burden of pneumonia and severe pneumonia in children younger than 5 years using a risk factor-based model. We did a systematic literature review to identify published data on the incidence of pneumonia from community-based longitudinal studies and calculated summary estimates. We estimated state-specific incidence rates for WHO-defined clinical pneumonia between 2000 and 2015 using Poisson regression and the prevalence of risk factors in each state was obtained from National Family Health Surveys. From clinical pneumonia studies, we identified studies reporting the proportion of clinical pneumonia cases with lower chest wall indrawing to estimate WHO-defined severe pneumonia cases. We used the estimate of the proportion of cases with lower chest wall indrawing to estimate WHO-defined severe pneumonia cases for each state. FINDINGS Between 2000 and 2015, the estimated number of pneumonia cases in Indian HIV-uninfected children younger than 5 years decreased from 83·8 million cases (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 14·0-300·8) to 49·8 million cases (9·1-174·2), representing a 41% reduction in pneumonia cases. The incidence of pneumonia in children younger than 5 years in India was 657 cases per 1000 children (95% UI 110-2357) in 2000 and 403 cases per 1000 children (74-1408) in 2015. The estimated national pneumonia case fatality rate in 2015 was 0·38% (95% UI 0·11-2·10). In 2015, the estimated number of severe pneumonia cases was 8·4 million (95% UI 1·2-31·7), with an incidence of 68 cases per 1000 children (9-257) and a case fatality ratio of 2·26% (0·60-16·30). In 2015, the estimated number of pneumonia cases in HIV-uninfected children was highest in Uttar Pradesh (12·4 million [95% UI 2·1-45·0]), Bihar (7·3 million [1·3-26·1]), and Madhya Pradesh (4·6 million [0·7-17·0]). Between 2000 and 2015, the greatest reduction in pneumonia cases was observed in Kerala (82% reduction). In 2015, pneumonia incidence was greater than 500 cases per 1000 children in two states: Uttar Pradesh (565 cases per 1000 children [95% UI 94-2047]) and Madhya Pradesh (563 cases per 1000 children [88-2084]). INTERPRETATION The estimated number of pneumonia and severe pneumonia cases among children younger than 5 years in India decreased between 2000 and 2015. Improvements in socioeconomic indicators and specific government initiatives are likely to have contributed to declines in the prevalence of pneumonia risk factors in many states. However, pneumonia incidence in many states remains high. The introduction of new vaccines that target pneumonia pathogens and reduce risk factors will help further reduce the burden of pneumonia in the country. FUNDING Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
