Abstract
BACKGROUND Following cancer treatment, adults commonly report worsened patient-reported outcomes (PROs) such as anxiety, stress, depression, persistent and upsetting cognitive complaints, unrelenting fatigue, and reduced quality of life. Poorer PROs are associated with disrupted autonomic nervous system functioning as measured by heart rate variability (HRV), both of which have been associated with greater morbidity and mortality. Interventions to improve HRV and PROs among adults following cancer treatment are needed. Yoga therapy holds promise as an intervention to improve HRV and PROs. Therefore, we conducted a single-subject exploratory experimental study to investigate the effects of yoga therapy on HRV and specific PROs (ie, cancer-related fatigue, anxiety, cognitive function, depression, stress, quality of life) in adults treated for cancer. To reduce publication bias, improve reproducibility, and serve as a reference for forthcoming reporting of study results, we present the study protocol for this study herein. METHODS Participants were adults who completed cancer treatment that were recruited from the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre. Consenting and eligible participants received one 1:1 yoga therapy session (ie, 1 participant, 1 Yoga Therapist) and 6 weekly group-based yoga therapy sessions (ie, 2-3 participants, 1 Yoga Therapist). Participants completed assessments 7 times: 3 times prior to the program (ie, -6 weeks, -3 weeks, immediately prior to the 1:1 yoga therapy session), immediately following the 1:1 yoga therapy session, prior to the first group-based yoga therapy session, after the last group-based yoga therapy session, and at a 6-week follow-up. Hierarchical linear modeling will be used to test the average effects of the yoga therapy program across participants. DISCUSSION This study will explore several novel hypotheses, including whether yoga therapy can improve HRV and/or specific PROs among adults treated for cancer acutely (ie, during a 1:1 yoga therapy session) and/or through repeated exposure (ie, after completing 6 weeks of group-based yoga therapy). Although the findings will require confirmation or refutation in future trials, they may provide initial evidence that YT may benefit adults treated for cancer. Abstract
Coronary artery disease carries a high morbidity and mortality worldwide, and exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation programmes play a large role in secondary prevention. Exercise-based rehabilitation programmes are expensive, and in certain subgroups uptake is poor. Yoga has been suggested to show improvements in cardiovascular health which would support its use in cardiac rehabilitation programmes. We carried out a review of current randomized controlled trials to determine if yoga-based cardiac rehabilitation leads to reduced cardiac risk factors, and improved physiological and psychological outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease compared to standard care. Six randomized controlled studies were identified after a medical database search, and meta-analysis was carried out for the different outcomes. Overall, the addition of yoga to standard care resulted in improved subjective feeling of cardiac health and quality of life. There was also a trend towards improvement in left ventricular systolic function. Improvement in cardiac risk factors, MACE and psychological health in this cohort has still to be proven, but was not inferior to standard or enhanced care, and the benefits became more pronounced at longer follow-up. Future studies with longer follow-up and larger patient numbers would aid in accurately assessing the long-term benefit of yoga-based rehabilitation.

Abstract
Beneficial physical and physiological health outcomes of yoga practice are well-supported by empirical data. However, whether weekly frequency of training is sufficient to evoke positive changes, is still an open question. The present intervention study investigated the effects of 10 weekly sessions of beginner level hatha yoga with respect to indicators of physical fitness and physiological markers. 82 young women (mean age of 22.0 ± 3.83 years) participated in the study. The yoga group (N = 49) attended a yoga course consisting of 10 sessions (1.5 h each) on a weekly basis. The control group (N = 33) did not receive any intervention. BMI, body fat percentage, balance (one-leg-stand test with open and closed eyes, functional reach test), flexibility (side bend test, modified sit and reach test) core muscle strength (plank test) as well as resting heart rate (HR), and heart rate variability (HRV) were assessed 1 week before and after the course. Both frequentist and Bayesian analysis showed an improvement in flexibility and balance in the yoga group compared to the control group. The yoga group showed also increased core muscle strength. No changes with respect to BMI, body fat percentage, resting HR and HRV were found. Ninety minute beginner level hatha yoga classes were characterized by 93.39 HR and 195 kcal energy consumption on average. The present findings suggest that weekly setting of a 10-session long hatha yoga training leads to improvements in balance, flexibility and core muscle strength among healthy young women. However, for changes in BMI, body fat percentage, resting HR and HRV longer, and/or more intense interventions are needed.

Abstract
Integrative oncology has emerged as a recognized medical subspecialty because of growing interest in the use of integrative medicine in modern cancer care on behalf of both patients and providers. Acutherapy and mind-body techniques, such as meditation and yoga, have been shown to aid in symptom control and improve quality of life in oncologic patient populations, and the Society of Integrative Oncology and American Society of Clinical Oncology have recently endorsed a set of guidelines for the implementation of these techniques specifically in patients with breast cancer. Although the current guidelines focus largely on the management of chronic symptoms, there exists evidence to support the use of these techniques in acute symptom management as well. With surgical resection representing the backbone of many cancer treatment regimens, symptoms that arise during the perioperative period are prime examples of the acute symptomatology common among patients with cancer. Here, the authors provide a detailed literature review of the current evidence supporting the use of integrative techniques during the perioperative period and demonstrate their applicability for acute symptom management within oncologic and surgical populations. In doing so, the authors introduce a new paradigm of surgical practice they call integrative surgical oncology and integrative surgery.

Abstract
Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate metabolic energy contributions during high-intensity hatha yoga (HIHY) and to compare changes in physiological variables between active and passive recovery methods. Methods: The study involved 20 women yoga instructors (n = 20) who performed 10 min of HIHY (vigorous sun salutation). Upon completion, they were randomly assigned to either active (walking; n = 10) or passive (savasana; n = 10) recovery groups for a period of 10 min. During HIHY, physiological variables such as heart rate (HRpeak and HRmean), oxygen uptake (VO2peak and VO2mean), and blood lactate concentrations (peak La−) were measured. Energetic contributions (phosphagen; WPCR, glycolytic; WGly, and oxidative; WOxi) in kJ and % were estimated using VO2 and La− data. Furthermore, the metabolic equivalents (METs) of VO2peak and VO2mean were calculated. To compare different recovery modes, HRpost, ΔHR, VO2post, ΔVO2, recovery La−, and recovery ΔLa− were analyzed. Results: The results revealed that HRpeak, VO2peak, and peak La− during HIHY showed no differences between the two groups (p > 0.05). Values of HRpeak, HRmean, METs of VO2peak and VO2mean, and La− during HIHY were 95.6% of HRmax, 88.7% of HRmax, 10.54 ± 1.18, 8.67 ±.98 METs, and 8.31 ± 2.18 mmol·L−1, respectively. Furthermore, WOxi was significantly higher compared with WPCR, WGly, and anaerobic contribution (WPCR + WGly), in kJ and % (p < 0.0001). VO2post and recovery ΔLa− were significantly higher in the active recovery group (p < 0.0001, p = 0.0369, respectively). Values of ΔVO2 and recovery La− were significantly lower in the active group compared with the passive group (p = 0.0115, p = 0.0291, respectively). Conclusions: The study concluded that high-intensity hatha yoga which was performed for 10 min is a suitable option for relatively healthy people in the modern workplace who may have hatha yoga experience but do not have time to perform a prolonged exercise. Following active recovery, they can participate in further HIHY sessions during short breaks. Furthermore, a faster return to work can be supported by physiological recovery.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The prevalence of cardiovascular disease despite good medical therapy is on the rise, driven by risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and obesity. As healthcare providers, we must seek to better advise patients on preventative strategies through lifestyle changes. RECENT FINDINGS Guideline recommendations have been published by professional societies on the prevention of heart disease through lifestyle changes; however, limited education and experience with these lifestyle-modifying methods hinders appropriate counseling and treatment of patients. Robust data support the use of lifestyle medicine to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and risk. These include, a more plant-based whole food diet, regular exercise, stress relief, connectedness, and other lifestyle approaches. This review will help further the understanding of the front-line clinician in cardiovascular prevention.

Abstract
Background International guidelines for hypertension treatment recommend the use of yoga, particularly among low-risk patients. However, evidence is lacking on the implementation potential of health-worker-led yoga interventions in low-resource, primary care settings. Objective To assess barriers to and facilitators of the implementation of a yoga intervention for hypertensive patients in primary care in Nepal. Methods The study was conducted using focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, key informant interviews, and telephone interviews. Data were collected from the ‘Yoga and Hypertension’ (YoH) trial participants, YoH intervention implementers, and officials from the Ministry of Health and Population in Nepal. Results Most YoH trial participants stated that: (1) it was easy to learn yoga during a five-day training period and practise it for three months at home; (2) practising yoga improved their health; and (3) group yoga sessions in a community centre would help them practise yoga more regularly. Most YoH intervention implementers stated that: (1) they were highly motivated to implement the intervention; (2) the cost of implementation was acceptable; (3) they did not need additional staff to effectively implement the intervention; (4) providing remuneration to the staff involved in the intervention would increase their motivation; and (5) the yoga programme was ‘simple and easy to follow’ and ‘easily performed by participants of any age’. The government officials stated that: (1) yoga is considered as a key health promotional activity in Nepal; and (2) the integration of the yoga intervention into the existing health care programme would not be too challenging, because the existing personnel and other resources can be utilised. Conclusion While there is a good potential that a yoga intervention can be implemented in primary care, capacity development for health workers and the involvement of community yoga centres in the delivery of the interventions may be required to facilitate this implementation.

Abstract
Introduction: Benefits, risks, and the increasing popularity of yoga use warrant assessing yoga practice prevalence and users' profiles. This study describes trends in yoga practice exclusively among American adults from 2002 to 2017, compares the profile of yoga users, and identifies factors related to yoga use over time. Materials and Methods: This study is a secondary analysis done in 2019 and 2020 using the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017 data. Population weights were used to obtain statistically accurate estimates of yoga use prevalence for the U.S. population. Descriptive statistics were used to profile the sociodemographic and health-related characteristics of yoga users. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with yoga use in each cohort defined by the NHIS year. Results: Yoga practice prevalence nearly tripled from 5.1% in 2002 to 13.7% in 2017 (weighted estimate 10,386,456 and 32,761,194 American adults, respectively). Typical yoga users were young non-Hispanic single white female adults with bachelor or higher education and health insurance, and resided in the west region of the United States. Yoga use pattern change over time was significantly related to only younger age (p < 0.001) but not to other sociodemographic or health-related factors. Conclusions: Yoga has gained increasing popularity in the past two decades among American adults, with younger adults being the driving force. Yoga appears to be adopted for general well-being or prevention more than for specific disease treatment. Future research should evaluate how yoga can be effectively and safely integrated into preventive medicine strategies.

Abstract
Background: The root canal treatment is one of the common dental or endodontic therapies associated with high levels of patient anxiety. Yoga therapy (YT) is reported in medical literature as an effective modality in bringing down anxiety in clinical scenarios; however, the reports of the same for dental settings are fewer. The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of YT on biopsychosocial parameters in patients undergoing root canal therapy. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on 50 participants who underwent dental root canal therapy. The sample was divided into two groups: Yoga group (Group A; n = 25) who received YT and control group (Group B; n = 25) who were subjected to self-relaxation during dental procedure. The state of anxiety was measured by a 5-point single-item Likert scale and the cardiovascular (CV) parameters (systolic blood pressure [SBP], diastolic blood pressure [DBP], heart rate [HR]) and CV indices (pulse pressure [PP], mean arterial pressure [MAP], rate-pressure product [RPP], and double product [DoP]) were derived and compared between both the groups. Results: The intergroup comparison showed statistically significant differences in anxiety score (P < 0.001), SBP (P < 0.001), MAP (P < 0.001), RPP (P < 0.001), DoP (P < 0.001), HR (P < 0.029), DBP (P < 0.003), and PP (P < 0.116). Conclusion: A significant reduction was recorded in terms of anxiety and primary and derived CV parameters in the yoga group. The YT can be adopted as an interventional tool for anxiety management in patients indicated for dental root canal therapy.

Abstract
PURPOSE To describe pregnant women's experiences and perceived facilitators/barriers of a prenatal yoga intervention to prevent excessive gestational weight gain (EGWG). METHODS Pregnant women (N = 13) were interviewed after participation in a 12-week prenatal yoga intervention to prevent EGWG. Interviews were summarized using thematic analysis. RESULTS Twelve themes were identified and organized into four categories: 1) experiences of prenatal yoga (positive experience/enjoyment, pain relief, connecting to body), 2) prenatal yoga and weight (increased mindfulness/self-awareness, increased physical activity, weight management), 3) barriers to prenatal yoga (physical body, commute/traffic, schedule), and 4) facilitators of prenatal yoga (healthy pregnancy, support from other pregnant women, the feeling from prenatal yoga). CONCLUSION Prenatal yoga may relieve pain and help women be more connected to their bodies. Prenatal yoga may also help women become more aware of their health behaviors and increases their physical activity which may have important implications for reducing EGWG.

Abstract
AIMS Despite its demonstrated benefits, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) attendance, and completion is suboptimal, particularly in women. The aims of this study were (i) to develop and pilot test a women-only yoga-based CR programme (the Women's Yoga CR Programme; WYCRP); (ii) to investigate programme acceptability; and (iii) to investigate attendance and completion of the WYCRP and continuation to Phase III community-based CR. METHODS AND RESULTS Women eligible for CR at a tertiary hospital in Melbourne, Australia were recruited. Over a 6-month period in 2019, they were offered the WYCRP or usual CR. The WYCRP involved attendance at a 1-h yoga session following the usual 1-h mixed-sex education session, over a 7-week period. Participants completed pre- and post-programme questionnaires and attended focus groups to assess programme acceptability. Rates of attendance, completion, and continuation for the WYCRP were recorded and compared to those for the standard CR programme offered in 2018. In total, 27 women were eligible for the study and attended the initial CR assessment. Of those, 22 (81%) attended the WYCRP, 1 (4%) attended usual CR, and 4 (15%) did not attend CR. Ratings of programme acceptability were consistently positive; qualitative comments highlighted both physical and emotional benefits. While attendance at the WYCRP was not significantly higher than for usual CR the previous year (81% vs. 76%; P = 0.40), CR completion, and continuation were (95% vs. 56%; P = 0.02, and 72% vs. 12%; P < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION This pilot study has demonstrated that women-only yoga-based CR is appealing to women and can improve women's CR completion and continuation. These preliminary findings support further development of women-only and yoga-based CR options.

Abstract
Background It has been widely believed that practicing yoga helps to improve individuals’ mental and physical health. However, the proportion of people practicing yoga is not encouraging. Objective This study investigates the determinants, motivations, benefits and barriers to practicing yoga. Material and methods This study is based on a cross sectional survey of 875 individuals in a face-to-face interviews conducted from February to April 2019 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The interviews were conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire, and the statistical analysis of the collected data was done using SPSSV20. Results We find that females, older people, people with access to health education and internet, associated with social organization, and receiving yoga-related training are more likely to practice yoga. Major reported benefits of yoga include improvement in body flexibility and balance, a decrease in the level of stress, improvement in the quality of life, body weight maintenance, and improvement in immunity power. Conclusion Given that most respondents have been benefited from practicing yoga, we recommend people to incorporate yoga into their daily routine.

Abstract
Background: Yoga-based interventions can be effective in preventing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We developed a Yoga program for T2DM prevention (YOGA-DP) among high-risk people and conducted a feasibility randomized controlled trial (RCT) in India. The objective of this study was to identify and explore why potential participants declined to participate in the feasibility RCT. Methods: An exploratory qualitative study, using semi-structured interviews, was conducted at a Yoga center in New Delhi, India. Fourteen people (10 women and four men) who declined to participate in the feasibility RCT were interviewed, and 13 of them completed the non-participant questionnaire, which captured their socio-demographics, diets, physical activities, and reasons for declining. Results: Three types of barriers were identified and explored which prevented participation in the feasibility RCT: (1) personal barriers, such as lack of time, perceived sufficiency of knowledge, preferences about self-management of health, and trust in other traditional and alternative therapies; (2) contextual barriers, such as social influences and lack of awareness about preventive care; and (3) study-related barriers, such as lack of study information, poor accessibility to the Yoga site, and lack of trust in the study methods and intervention. Conclusions: We identified and explored personal, contextual, and study-related barriers to participation in a feasibility RCT in India. Abstract
Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic people are facing risks of adverse health effects due to the restrictions implemented such as quarantine measures, reduced social contact, and self-isolation. In this qualitative review, we collected data on potential preventive and therapeutic health benefits of Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) that might be useful during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have reviewed the scientific literature to summarize CIM practices that could be beneficial for improving physical and mental health and well-being of the population under the current pandemic circumstances. It must be noted that this review is not SARS-CoV-2 specific and we explicitly do not intend to make any SARS-CoV-2 specific health claims in this article. Methods and Findings: A qualitative, non-systematic literature review was conducted in Medline to identify literature describing preventive and therapeutic CIM approaches for strengthening mental and physical health. For a variety of CIM approaches clinical evidence was identified, indicating beneficial effects. CIM approaches include specific dietary measures and selected micronutrients, physical activity, techniques from Mind-Body Medicine, single botanicals or botanical compounds, and spending time in nature among others. The effects of CIM measures on conditions like obesity and hypertension are of special relevance here, as these conditions are considered as risk factors for a severe course of COVID-19. Moreover, a possibly direct effect of CIM approaches on immune functions and clinical parameters in respiratory tract infections, such as influenza, were identified. The findings of this review could be helpful for clinicians, patients, and the general population during the current pandemic when discussing and/or considering CIM options. Conclusions: CIM offers a variety of preventive and therapeutic options for strengthening physical and mental resilience, which could also be useful in the current COVID-19 pandemic. The evidence of CIM approaches with a potential benefit in the COVID-19 pandemic in different areas is worth to be analyzed. While this qualitative review has several obvious limitations, it might serve as useful starting point for further research on this topic.

Abstract
Yoga offers an integrated approach to health and well-being that could potentially benefit men. This qualitative descriptive study examined men's perceptions of yoga, and identified barriers and possible facilitators for participation. Twenty-one non-yoga participant men, 18-60 years old, and living in Queensland, Australia, were interviewed. Two major barriers were identified using thematic analysis: (1) preference for other forms of physical activity, and (2) gender-related perceptions and pressures (i.e., perception of yoga as feminine, and presence of "bloke" culture and masculine ideals in society). Potential facilitators included: (1) acceptability of yoga among men, (2) providing brief information sessions, and (3) men-only classes. The non-competitive nature of yoga, in addition to being predominantly undertaken by women, makes it less appealing for men living in Australia. These barriers need to be considered if yoga is to be promoted as an option for men, particularly those not drawn to traditional sports or exercise.

Abstract
Introduction: Many Indians are at high-risk of type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Yoga is an ancient Indian mind-body discipline, that has been associated with improved glucose levels and can help to prevent T2DM. The study aimed to systematically develop a Yoga program for T2DM prevention (YOGA-DP) among high-risk people in India using a complex intervention development approach. Materials and Methods: As part of the intervention, we developed a booklet and a high-definition video for participants and a manual for YOGA-DP instructors. A systematic iterative process was followed to develop the intervention and included five steps: (i) a systematic review of the literature to generate a list of Yogic practices that improves blood glucose levels among adults at high-risk of or with T2DM, (ii) validation of identified Yogic practices by Yoga experts, (iii) development of the intervention, (iv) consultation with Yoga, exercise, physical activity, diet, behavior change, and/or diabetes experts about the intervention, and (v) pretest the intervention among Yoga practitioners and lay people (those at risk of T2DM and had not practiced Yoga before) in India. Results: YOGA-DP is a structured lifestyle education and exercise program, provided over a period of 24 weeks. The exercise part is based on Yoga and includes Shithilikarana Vyayama (loosening exercises), Surya Namaskar (sun salutation exercises), Asana (Yogic poses), Pranayama (breathing practices), and Dhyana (meditation) and relaxation practices. Once participants complete the program, they are strongly encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the long-term. Conclusions: We systematically developed a novel Yoga program for T2DM prevention (YOGA-DP) among high-risk people in India. A multi-center feasibility randomized controlled trial is in progress in India.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Yoga practice in common usage is often confined to the physical aspects of the comprehensive practice. The purpose of this study was to examine the use of two additional aspects of yoga as part of yoga practice, i.e. yogic breathing and meditation (YoBaM). Prevalence and predictors of YoBaM use among yoga practitioners in the US general population were analyzed. METHOD Cross-sectional data from the 2012 and 2017 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) (N = 61,267) was used. 12-month prevalence of yoga use and YoBaM use among yoga practitioners were analyzed descriptively for the two cohorts respectively. Logistic regression analyses were used to analyze sociodemographic and health-related predictors of YoBaM use among yoga practitioners. RESULTS 12-month prevalence of yoga use and YoBaM use were 8.9 % and 4.8 % respectively in 2012. In 2017, 13.3 % had practiced yoga in the past 12 months and 7.0 % had used YoBaM. Yoga practitioners aged between 50 and 64 compared to being 29 or younger, females, Hispanics and those experiencing mild to severe forms of psychological distress were more likely to use YoBaM as part of their yoga practice. Yoga practitioners living in the Midwest or in a relationship were less likely to use YoBaM. CONCLUSION In recent years, the number of yoga practitioners in the US general population has considerably increased and YoBaM use is common among yoga practitioners. YoBaM use seems to be associated with age, gender, ethnicity, region, marital status and psychological distress dimensions.

Abstract
Movement therapy refers to a broad range of Eastern and Western mindful movement-based practices used to treat the mind, body, and spirit concurrently. Forms of movement practice are universal across human culture and exist in ancient history. Research demonstrates forms of movement therapy, such as dance, existed in the common ancestor shared by humans and chimpanzees, approximately 6 million years ago. Movement-based therapies innately promote health and wellness by encouraging proactive participation in one's own health, creating community support and accountability, and so building a foundation for successful, permanent, positive change.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have shown the beneficial effect of exercise on HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. However, systematic reviews are not free of bias, and this could call into question their results. OBJECTIVES The aim of this work was to conduct a critical assessment of meta-analyses of RCTs that analyze the association between exercise and HDL-C levels, evaluating their results and the risk of bias (RoB). METHODS This systematic review of MEDLINE and EMBASE included meta-analyses of RCTs that studied the effects of exercise on HDL-C levels in healthy adults or patients at cardiovascular risk. The RoB was determined using AMSTAR-2, and information was obtained on exercise and the variation in HDL-C levels. RESULTS Twenty-three meta-analyses were included. Great variability was found in exercise (different types, frequencies or intensities in the studied interventions). All the analyses found an improvement in HDL-C levels, ranging from 0.27 to 5.41 mg/dl, in comparison with the control group (no exercise). The RoB was very high, with 18 reviews obtaining a critically low confidence level and the remaining works obtaining the highest confidence level. CONCLUSIONS Only one meta-analysis showed good quality, in which HDL-C levels increased by 3.09 mg/dl in healthy adults and patients at high cardiovascular risk who practiced yoga. The rest had high RoB. Therefore, new systematic reviews with low RoB are needed to apply the results to clinical practice. Register: CRD42020158471 (PROSPERO).

Abstract
While the chronic effects of certain styles of yoga on cardiometabolic factors have been investigated, little is known about the acute effects of a single yoga session on these outcomes. Moreover, vinyasa yoga's potential to modulate cardiometabolic outcomes has not been established. The purpose of this study is to determine the acute effects of a vinyasa yoga session on arterial stiffness, wave reflection, lipid and glucose concentrations, and mood in adults with prior yoga experience. Thirty yoga practitioners with a minimum of 3 months of practice experience were enrolled into the study. Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV), augmentation index (AIx), lipid profile, glucose concentrations, and mood (Positive and Negative Affect Scale) were assessed at baseline and immediately following a 1 -h vinyasa yoga session. After the yoga session, participants had significantly lower AIx (p < 0.001), non-HDL cholesterol (p < 0.05), and negative affect (p < 0.01) compared to baseline. These results highlight the efficacy of a single bout of yoga in altering wave reflection while improving mood and lipid concentrations in healthy adults with a history of yoga practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Little information exists regarding the association of yoga-related injuries with yoga instructor (YI) practice patterns. Therefore, this cross-sectional survey examined the screening and practice characteristics of YI and its relationship with yoga-related injuries. METHODS AND MATERIALS YI from Northeastern US completed a customized web-based 57-item questionnaire. RESULTS The response rate of our questionnaire was 46%. In this study, only 8.8% of the YI reported physical performance screening and 33.7% of the participants did medical screenings with their clients. A binomial logistic regression analysis with the above variables revealed that adherence to training by YI (p = 0.031) and the use of Sun Salutations (p = 0.002) predicted lower yoga-related injuries in clients reported by YI. CONCLUSIONS Reduction in client yoga-related injuries was predicted by YI adhering to their training and performing Sun Salutations in their classes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION A huge population in India is at high risk of type-2 diabetes (T2DM). Physical activity and a healthy diet (healthy lifestyle) improve blood glucose levels in people at high risk of T2DM. However, an unhealthy lifestyle is common among Indians. Yoga covers physical activity and a healthy diet and can help to prevent T2DM. The research question to be addressed by the main randomised controlled trial (RCT) is whether a Yoga programme for T2DM prevention (YOGA-DP) is effective in preventing T2DM among high risk people in India as compared with enhanced standard care. In this current study, we are determining the feasibility of undertaking the main RCT. INTERVENTION YOGA-DP is a structured lifestyle education and exercise programme. The exercise part is based on Yoga and includes Shithilikarana Vyayama (loosening exercises), Surya Namaskar (sun salutation exercises), Asana (Yogic poses), Pranayama (breathing practices) and Dhyana (meditation) and relaxation practices. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This is a multicentre, two-arm, parallel-group, feasibility RCT with blinded outcome assessment and integrated mixed-methods process evaluation. Eligible participants should be aged 18-74 years, at high risk of T2DM (fasting plasma glucose level 5.6-6.9 mmol/L) and safe to participate in physical activities. At least 64 participants will be randomised to intervention or control group with final follow-up at 6 months. Important parameters, needed to design the main RCT, will be estimated, such as SD of the outcome measure (fasting plasma glucose level at 6-month follow-up), recruitment, intervention adherence, follow-up, potential contamination and time needed to conduct the study. Semistructured qualitative interviews will be conducted with up to 20-30 participants, a sample of those declining to participate, four YOGA-DP instructors and around eight study staff to explore their perceptions and experiences of taking part in the study and of the intervention, reasons behind non-participation, experiences of delivering the intervention and running the study, respectively. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethics approval has been obtained from the following Research Ethics Committees: Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Nottingham (UK); Centre for Chronic Disease Control (CCDC, India); Bapu Nature Cure Hospital and Yogashram (BNCHY, India) and Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA, India). Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MS) is associated with a sedentary and stressful lifestyle and affects underactive people disproportionately. Yoga is considered to be a low-impact mind-body stress-relieving exercise, and researchers are increasing their focus on the benefits of yoga for managing metabolic disorders. It is also important for physicians and health care professionals to understand the therapeutic efficacy of yoga intervention, in terms of its type, duration and frequency on various MS risk factors. The present review summarizes the current scientific understanding of the effects of yoga on MS risk factors such as glucose homeostasis markers, lipid profile, adipocytokines and cardiovascular risk factors, and discusses the possible mechanisms of action. MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane Library were searched from their inception up to December 2019, using the keywords "metabolic syndrome," "diabetes," "cardiovascular diseases," "obesity" and "yoga." The literature summarized in this review have shown mixed effects of yoga on MS risk factors and do not provide robust evidence for its efficacy. More rigorous research and well-designed trials that have a higher standard of methodology and evaluate yoga's long-term impacts on MS are needed. Understanding yoga's biochemical and molecular mechanisms of action on various metabolic pathways is also needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Yoga breathing has shown to impose significant cardiovascular and psychological health benefits. OBJECTIVE The mechanism (s) responsible for these health benefits remain unclear. The aim of the present study was to assess the differences in cerebral and central hemodynamic responses following fast breathing (FB) and slow breathing (SB) protocols compared to breathing awareness (BA) as a control. METHODS Twenty healthy participants (10 males and 10 females) volunteered to take part in the study. Participants were between ages 18-55 years (group mean: 24 ± 5 years), with a height of 168.7 ± 9.8 cm and a weight of 70.16 ± 10.9 kg. A familiarization trial including FB and SB protocols were performed by each participant at least 24 h before the testing day. The breathing protocols were designed to achieve 6 breath/min for SB and ~ 120 breaths/min for FB. RESULTS FB resulted in an increase in both right prefrontal cortex (RPFC) and left prefrontal cortex (LPFC) hemoglobin difference (Hbdiff) (brain oxygenation) compared to BA (P < 0.05). FB resulted in an increased Hbdiff in LPFC compared to RPFC SB (P < 0.05). FB resulted in an increased Hbdiff in LPFC compared to SB (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION FB may be an effective yoga breathing technique for eliciting cerebral brain oxygenation indicated by increased Hbdiff. These results may be applicable to both healthy and clinical populations.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of morbidity and mortality around the world. Yoga, a combination of physical postures (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana), has gained increasing recognition as a form of mind-body exercise. In this narrative review, we intended to review the emerging evidence assessing the physiologic and clinical effects of yoga on the cardiovascular system and the potential role of yoga as a component of comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation. METHODS We searched PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, and Cochrane databases for literature related to cardiovascular effects of yoga from inception up until 2017. RESULTS Yoga has been shown to have favorable effects on systemic inflammation, stress, the cardiac autonomic nervous system, and traditional and emerging cardiovascular risk factors. CONCLUSIONS Yoga has shown promise as a useful lifestyle intervention that can be incorporated into cardiovascular disease management algorithms. Although many investigators have reported the clinical benefits of yoga in reducing cardiovascular events, morbidity, and mortality, evidence supporting these conclusions is somewhat limited, thereby emphasizing the need for large, well-designed randomized trials that minimize bias and methodological drawbacks.

Abstract
Heart rate is a parameter that is widely used by the general population as a marker of health. The availability of wearable electronic heart rate monitoring devices and use of specific apps are widely used both at rest and during daily life activities. Resting heart rate values gained more relevance with the evidence of association between elevated heart rate values at rest and diseases and adverse events. Also longitudinal studies demonstrated a clear association between increase in heart rate over time and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. The increased knowledge of physiological mechanisms of heart rate control and the pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for its dysfunction allows identification of the cutoff value of normalcy. This information can be used to select non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions to reduce the cardiovascular risk both in the general population and in patients with pathophysiological conditions. This review provides an overview of the current knowledge of resting heart rate as cardiovascular risk factor.

Background: The deprivation of oxygen reaching the tissues (also termed as hypoxia) affects the normal functioning of the body. This results in development of many diseases like ischemia, glaucoma, MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), pulmonary and cerebral edema, stress and depression. There are no effective drugs that can treat such diseases. Despite such failure, alternative interventions such as mind-body techniques (MBTs) have not been adequately investigated. Methods: The first part of this review has been focused on philosophical aspects of various MBTs besides evolving an ayurgenomic perspective. The potential of MBTs as a preventive non-pharmacological intervention in the treatment of various general and hypoxic pathologies has been further described in this section. In the second part, molecular, physiological, and neuroprotective roles of MBTs in normal and hypoxic/ischemic conditions has been discussed. Results: In this respect, the importance of and in vivo studies has also been discussed. Conclusions: Although several studies have investigated the role of protective strategies in coping with the hypoxic environment, the efficacy of MBTs at the molecular level has been ignored.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The positive effect of exercise on blood pressure has been reported in studies that investigated mostly patients with hypertension but without diabetes mellitus. However, the effect of exercise in adults with both hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is unclear, and no systematic review and meta-analysis has been conducted to clarify this effect. OBJECTIVE This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis designed to investigate the effects of exercise on adults with both hypertension and T2DM. METHODS Studies were selected using electronic databases. Data were extracted using a standardized protocol. The risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane Collaboration's tool. To estimate the effect size, a meta-analysis of the studies was conducted. RESULTS Of 3207 publications identified, 8 trials were used to estimate the effect size of exercise. Effect sizes (weighted mean difference [WMD]) were heterogeneous, and random-effects models were used. Exercise was effective for systolic blood pressure (WMD, -5.25 mm Hg; 95% confidence interval [CI], -8.39 to -2.12), diastolic blood pressure (WMD, -3.16 mm Hg; 95% CI, -4.91 to -1.40), body mass index (WMD, -1.47 kg/m; 95% CI, -2.39 to -0.55), and waist circumference (WMD, -2.91 cm; 95% CI, -5.68 to -0.15). In subgroup analyses, aerobic exercise seemed to be the most effective intervention for lowering systolic (WMD, -9.43 mm Hg; 95% CI, -13.63 to -5.23) and diastolic (WMD, -5.90 mm Hg; 95% CI, -7.69 to -4.11) blood pressure. CONCLUSIONS Exercise seemed effective in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with subgroup analyses indicating that this effect was most profound with aerobic exercise.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Despite the popularity of yoga and evidence of its positive effects on physical and mental health, little is known about yoga practice in the UK. This study investigated the characteristics of people who practise yoga, reasons for initiating and maintaining practice, and perceived impact of yoga on health and well-being. DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS A cross-sectional online anonymous survey distributed through UK-based yoga organisations, studios and events, through email invites and flyers. 2434 yoga practitioners completed the survey, including 903 yoga teachers: 87% were women, 91% white and 71% degree educated; mean age was 48.7 years. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Perceived impact of yoga on health conditions, health outcomes and injuries. Relationships between yoga practice and measures of health, lifestyle, stress and well-being. RESULTS In comparison with national population norms, participants reported significantly higher well-being but also higher anxiety; lower perceived stress, body mass index and incidence of obesity, and higher rates of positive health behaviours. 47% reported changing their motivations to practise yoga, with general wellness and fitness key to initial uptake, and stress management and spirituality important to current practice. 16% of participants reported starting yoga to manage a physical or mental health condition. Respondents reported the value of yoga for a wide range of health conditions, most notably for musculoskeletal and mental health conditions. 20.7% reported at least one yoga-related injury over their lifetime. Controlling for demographic factors, frequency of yoga practice accounted for small but significant variance in health-related regression models (p<0.001). CONCLUSION The findings of this first detailed UK survey were consistent with surveys in other Western countries. Yoga was perceived to have a positive impact on physical and mental health conditions and was linked to positive health behaviours. Further investigation of yoga's role in self-care could inform health-related challenges faced by many countries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the effects of yoga practice on subclinical cardiovascular measures, risk factors and neuro-endocrine pathways in patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation (CR) following acute coronary events. DESIGN 3-month, two-arm (yoga +usual care vs usual care alone) parallel randomised mechanistic study. SETTING One general hospital and two primary care CR centres in London. Assessments were conducted at Imperial College London. PARTICIPANTS 80 participants, aged 35-80 years (68% men, 60% South Asian) referred to CR programmes 2012-2014. INTERVENTION A certified yoga teacher conducted yoga classes which included exercises in stretching, breathing, healing imagery and deep relaxation. It was pre-specified that at least 18 yoga classes were attended for inclusion in analysis. Participants and partners in both groups were invited to attend weekly a 6- to 12-week local standard UK National Health Service CR programme. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES (i) Estimated left ventricular filling pressure (E/e'), (ii) distance walked, fatigue and breathlessness in a 6 min walk test, (iii) blood pressure, heart rate and estimated peak VO2 following a 3 min step-test. Effects on the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, autonomic function, body fat, blood lipids and glucose, stress and general health were also explored. RESULTS 25 participants in the yoga + usual care group and 35 participants in the usual care group completed the study. Following the 3-month intervention period, E/e' was not improved by yoga (E/e': between-group difference: yoga minus usual care:-0.40 (-1.38, 0.58). Exercise testing and secondary outcomes also showed no benefits of yoga. CONCLUSIONS In this small UK-based randomised mechanistic study, with 60 completing participants (of whom 25 were in the yoga + usual care group), we found no discernible improvement associated with the addition of a structured 3-month yoga intervention to usual CR care in key cardiovascular and neuroendocrine measures shown to be responsive to yoga in previous mechanistic studies. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Schizophrenia is one of the most severe mental disorders with a prevalence of about 1% and a leading cause of disability among young adults. Pharmacotherapy is the mainstay in the management of schizophrenia. However, even with the best of medication, several problems like refractoriness, negative symptoms, frequent relapses, and cognitive impairments persist. METHODS This is a randomized-controlled clinical study including patients from an urban tertiary hospital and a semi-urban community center, with a between-group, repeated-measures, longitudinal design. This study will recruit 160 patients with DSM 5 diagnosis of schizophrenia who are on stable medication for a minimum of 6 weeks; they will be randomly assigned into 2 arms viz., yoga therapy (YT), and treatment-as-usual (TAU) with 80 patients in each arm. Participants will undergo Clinical, Laboratory, and Radiological assessments at baseline and at intervals of 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months from the baseline. It is hypothesized that yoga will improve psychopathology and emotion processing, increase serum brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and plasma oxytocin levels and effect changes in cerebral activation in areas of the brain associated with schizophrenia. DISCUSSION This study aims to measure the efficacy of a Yoga-based intervention as an adjunct in patients with schizophrenia as well as the mechanisms of these effects. Abstract
BACKGROUND Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation is associated with impaired health-related quality of life. Yoga has been suggested to improve health-related quality of life among patients with heart failure and hypertension. AIM The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of MediYoga, in respect of health-related quality of life, blood pressure, heart rate, as well as N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide, among patients with symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, compared with standard therapy or relaxation. METHODS Patients with symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, n=132, were stratified for gender and randomised to MediYoga, a relaxation group or a control group, 44 patients per group with a 12-week follow-up. Health-related quality of life, blood pressure, heart rate and N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide were assessed. RESULTS After 12 weeks, there were no differences in health-related quality of life between the groups. There were improvements in Short-Form Health Survey bodily pain, general health, social function, mental health and mental component summary scores within the MediYoga group (p=0.014, p=0.037, p=0.029, p=0.030, p=0.019, respectively). No change was seen in the relaxation and control groups. Systolic blood pressure decreased in the MediYoga group (134±18 to 127±13) compared with the control group (126±17 to 127±15, p=0.041); no difference compared with the relaxation group (131±17 to 125±12). Diastolic blood pressure decreased in the MediYoga group (79±9 to 74 ±9) compared with the control group (76±9 to 79±8, p=0.005); no difference compared with the relaxation group (76±9 to 77±8). There were no differences in heart rate and N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide between the groups after 12 weeks. CONCLUSIONS MediYoga improves health-related quality of life and decreases blood pressure in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. MediYoga may be used as a part of a self-management programme among patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Abstract
Nurses are at risk of having burnout due to workload and job stress-studies have reported that chronic stress is associated with metabolic syndrome. This study aimed to assess the association between burnout and metabolic syndrome in a sample of female nurses. Data were collected from a cross-sectional study from 2016 to 2018 in a tertiary hospital in Mexico City. All nurses that work in the hospital were invited to participate. Information pertaining to sociodemographic (age, education level), work (labor seniority, service area, shift work), anthropometric (weight, waist circumference, blood pressure) and biochemical (glucose, serum lipids) variables were collected. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory test, and metabolic syndrome was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria. A total of 168 nurses participated with a median age of 44 years. The prevalence of burnout and metabolic syndrome was 19.6% and 38.7%, respectively. There was no association between burnout and metabolic syndrome (p = 0.373). However, associations of emotional exhaustion (aOR: 14.95; 95% CI: 1.5-148.7), personal accomplishment (aOR: 0.13; 95% CI: 0.01-0.99), and night shift (aOR: 12.39; 95% CI: 1.02-150.5) with increased waist circumference were found. Strategies are needed to prevent burnout and metabolic syndrome in nurses, especially in those who work at night shift.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Yoga and meditation are predominantly utilised by healthy well-educated young women, but little is known about utilisation by older chronically ill women. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of yoga and meditation use among middle-to-higher aged Australian women with chronic conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a sub-study of the 45 and Up Study including 1925 Australian women aged 53-95 years diagnosed with chronic conditions (asthma, depression, diabetes, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis). Information on yoga and meditation use frequencies (categories: 'no yoga', 'at least once daily', 'at least once weekly', and 'at least once monthly'), self-perceived effectiveness and communication with health care providers were assessed via self-report. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify independent predictors of yoga and meditation use, using SPSS 24.0. RESULTS Overall 6.8% and 10.7% of women reported the use of yoga and meditation respectively. Meditation was rarely practiced supervised (11.7%), compared to significant higher rates in yoga (53.2%). Predictors for yoga and meditation use were marital status (married/in relationship > not married/in relationship), higher health related hardiness, and higher education, whereas obesity, and diabetes decreased likelihood of use. While the majority found yoga and meditation helpful for their condition, the use was rarely monitored by or discussed with health care practitioners. CONCLUSION This study finds that yoga and meditation are used by middle-to-higher aged Australian women with chronic illnesses. The lack of communication with health care providers is concerning and might hinder coordinated and effective health care around chronic illness. Further research is necessary to help understand possible concurrent health care use and thereby help inform safe, effective and coordinate health seeking amongst those with chronic illness.

Abstract
Yoga is an ancient mind body practice. Although yoga has been used as a complementary health approach for enhancing wellness and addressing a variety of health issues, little is known about the impact of yoga on cognitive functioning in adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. We conducted a literature review to examine the impact of yoga on persons with MCI and dementia. Eight studies were identified that reported on yoga as either the primary intervention or one component of a multi-component intervention in samples of persons with MCI or dementia. Results suggest that yoga may have beneficial effects on cognitive functioning, particularly on attention and verbal memory. Further, yoga may affect cognitive functioning through improved sleep, mood, and neural connectivity. There are a number of limitations of the existing studies, including a lack of intervention details, as well as variability in the frequency/duration and components of the yoga interventions. A further complicating issue is the role of various underlying etiologies of cognitive impairment. Despite these limitations, providers may consider recommending yoga to persons with MCI or dementia as a safe and potentially beneficial complementary health approach.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women throughout the United States and Europe. Despite efforts to raise awareness, the sex-specific risk factors are still poorly recognized in both regions, and many women do not identify cardiovascular disease as a primary threat. During midlife, the incidence of cardiovascular disease increases dramatically, and this unique time gives an opportunity to identify both traditional cardiovascular risk factors as well as emerging risk factors unique to women. This review will focus on the current guidelines for cardiovascular risk assessment in Europe and the United States, traditional and emerging cardiovascular risk factors, and preventive lifestyle recommendations for midlife women.

Abstract
Resting heart rate (RHR) is positively related with mortality. Regular exercise causes a reduction in RHR. The aim of the systematic review was to assess whether regular exercise or sports have an impact on the RHR in healthy subjects by taking different types of sports into account. A systematic literature research was conducted in six databases for the identification of controlled trials dealing with the effects of exercise or sports on the RHR in healthy subjects was performed. The studies were summarized by meta-analyses. The literature search analyzed 191 studies presenting 215 samples fitting the eligibility criteria. 121 trials examined the effects of endurance training, 43 strength training, 15 combined endurance and strength training, 5 additional school sport programs. 21 yoga, 5 tai chi, 3 qigong, and 2 unspecified types of sports. All types of sports decreased the RHR. However, only endurance training and yoga significantly decreased the RHR in both sexes. The exercise-induced decreases of RHR were positively related with the pre-interventional RHR and negatively with the average age of the participants. From this, we can conclude that exercise-especially endurance training and yoga-decreases RHR. This effect may contribute to a reduction in all-cause mortality due to regular exercise or sports.

Abstract
Previous studies suggest sedentary behavior (SB) is a risk factor for hypertension. However, buddhist activities related to SB in Tibetan monks is quite different from common SB. Meditation, chanting, and buddhist teaching are the main features during sitting. There is no study to examine the association between buddhist activities related to sitting and hypertension. There were 594 Tibetan monks included for analysis. Buddhist activities related to SB involve hours of meditation, chanting, and buddhist teaching for a typical weekday and weekend day. After controlling potential risk factors, compared with Tibetan monks who has the sedentary time < 8 h/d, those with 10 h/d ≤ sedentary time < 11 h/d was associated with about 80% decrease in the risk of hypertension (OR = 0.22;95% CI = 0.07-0.71), and about 90% decrease (OR = 0.11; 95% CI = 0.03-0.40) in those with sedentary time ≥ 11 h/d. In hypertension subgroup, buddhist activities related to SB is associated with a decrease in BP during linear regression analysis (standard β = -0.355; P = 0.004 for SBP; standard β = -0.345; P = 0.013 for DBP). We conclude that sitting might not simply represent the extremely low energy expenditure of the physical activity continuum. Psychosocial activities may play an important role in SB.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This review aims to rate the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations in high-quality systematic reviews of non-drug therapies. Hypertensive patients who are resistant or non-adherent to antihypertensive drugs may be easier to manage if they choose alternative non-drug therapies for hypertension, based on this review. METHODS P: Adults (>18 years), except pregnant women, with essential hypertension. I: Cupping, moxibustion, acupuncture, acupoint stimulation, yoga, meditation, tai chi, Qi gong, Chinese massage, massage, spinal manipulation, biofeedback, device-guided breathing therapy, aromatherapy, music therapy, and relaxation approaches. C: 1. No treatment. 2. Sham therapy. 3. Conventional treatment, including antihypertensive drugs and lifestyle modification (e.g., exercise). O: 1. Change in the incidence of cardiovascular death. 2. Change in the incidence of myocardial infarction. 3. Change in the incidence of stroke. 4. Change in blood pressure (BP). 5. Efficacy rate of BP lowering. 6. Adverse effects (review specific). S: Systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials, including meta-analyses and assessments of the methodological quality/risk of bias. INFORMATION SOURCES Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane library, PubMed, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Chinese Scientific Journal Database were searched. The bibliographies of the included articles were also searched for relevant systematic reviews. GRADE criteria were used to rate the quality of evidence in systematic reviews considering 6 factors, including risk of bias. RESULTS This review ultimately included 13 systematic reviews of 14 non-drug therapies (acupuncture, wet cupping, Baduanjin, blood letting, auricular acupuncture, music, massage, Qi gong, moxibustion, relaxation therapies, biofeedback, device-guided breathing, yoga and tai chi) based on the inclusion criteria. The quality of evidence was generally low, and weak recommendations were given for most therapies except massage and acupuncture plus antihypertensive drug. Based on the analyzed evidence, massage and acupuncture plus antihypertensive drug could benefit people who want to lower their BP and do not have contraindications for massage and acupuncture plus antihypertensive drug. DISCUSSION/STRENGTH The GRADE approach makes this review a unique reference for people who are considering the grade of quality of evidence in systematic reviews, the balance of desirable and undesirable consequences and the strength of recommendations to decide which intervention should be used to reduce BP. LIMITATIONS Many non-drug therapies were excluded due to the low methodological quality of their systematic reviews, and only 14 therapies were evaluated in this review. As no patient-important outcomes were reviewed, surrogate outcomes were used to rate the strength of recommendations. This approach may cause a decrease in evidence quality according to GRADE, but we argue that this is appropriate in the context of this review.
