Abstract
SIGNIFICANCE Cigars are sometimes marketed with cannabis references because they are often used for smoking blunts (i.e., cannabis rolled in cigar paper with or without tobacco). However, little research exists on the impact of cannabis co-marketing on cigar perceptions. METHODS Participants included 506 US youth (ages 15-20) recruited April-June 2023 through Qualtrics who reported ever using little cigars or cigarillos (LCCs), past 30-day use of LCCs, or susceptibility to using LCCs. We then conducted a between-subjects experiment, randomizing youth to view one of two cigarillo packages: 1) a package with cannabis co-marketing (i.e., the package included a cannabis-related flavor descriptor and the word "blunt" appeared in the brand name and product label) or 2) a package with no cannabis co-marketing. We assessed the effects of the packaging on perceptions of product ingredients, addictiveness and harm perceptions, product appeal, susceptibility to using the product shown, and purchase intentions. RESULTS Packages with cannabis co-marketing were perceived as more likely to contain cannabis (OR: 5.56, 95 % CI: 3.73, 8.27) and less likely to contain tobacco (OR: 0.42, 95 % CI: 0.25, 0.70) or nicotine (OR: 0.57, 95 % CI: 0.40, 0.82). Cannabis co-marketing also led to higher susceptibility to using the product shown (B: 0.21, p = 0.02). We did not find evidence that cannabis co-marketing changed harm perceptions or purchase intentions. CONCLUSIONS Among a sample of US youth, cannabis co-marketing on cigar packages may change perceptions of product ingredients and increase susceptibility to using such products, which could lead to the initiation of cigars and cannabis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To characterize and compare transitions in cannabis (THC) vaping by sociodemographic and other risk factors among a diverse cohort of youth and young adults observed between Spring 2019 and Fall 2021. METHODS We analyzed six (6) waves of panel data from n = 2605 youth transitioning into young adulthood via the Texas Adolescent Tobacco and Marketing Surveillance (TATAMS) system; participants provided N = 13,974 observations (i.e., completed surveys). The TATAMS sample was 37.7% Hispanic, 31.7% NH-White, 14.5% NH-Black, and 16.1% among NH-Other. We applied a three-state Markov model to estimate cannabis vaping initiation (never→ever), experimentation (never→current), escalation (ever→current), and de-escalation (current→ever). First, we compared transitions in THC vaping by race/ethnicity, with non-Hispanic (NH) Black as the referent. Second, we stratified the Markov models by race/ethnicity to identify common and unique predictors of cannabis vaping transitions, examining differences by: sex, age, alcohol use, depression (PHQ-9), anxiety (GAD-7) and nicotine vaping, across each race/ethnic category. RESULTS At baseline, 72.7% never vaped cannabis, 12.7% ever vaped cannabis, and 14.5% currently vaped cannabis. Across three years, risk for cannabis vaping experimentation (never → current) was significantly greater among NH-Blacks, relative to Hispanics (aHR: 1.89), NH-Whites (aHR: 2.27), and NH-Other (aHR: 2.01). Stratified models showed that current alcohol use was a common predictor of cannabis vaping experimentation among NH-White (aHR: 5.08), Hispanic (aHR: 2.32), and NH-Black (aHR: 2.91) participants. Depression predicted cannabis vaping initiation among Hispanics (aHR: 1.75) and experimentation among NH-Blacks (aHR: 3.95). CONCLUSIONS Onset of cannabis vaping during youth and young adulthood was most common among NH-Black youth, relative to other race/ethnic categories. Alcohol was a common predictor of cannabis vaping across race/ethnic categories while depression was linked to cannabis vaping transitions among Hispanic and NH-Black youth, only. Future research should investigate the link between alcohol use, mental health, and cannabis vaping among young people.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Co-use of tobacco and cannabis is common. However, few studies have examined the temporal sequencing through which individuals initiate co-use, and how these patterns vary across age. This study addresses this gap by examining the specific products and temporal sequencing through which adolescents, young adults, and adults initiate co-use of tobacco and cannabis. Among adolescents, young adults, and adults who co-used tobacco and cannabis in the past 30 days, we examined (a) whether tobacco or cannabis was used first in their lifetime and (b) which specific tobacco or cannabis product (e.g., nicotine e-cigarettes, cannabis edibles) was the first used. METHODS Data were from a cross-sectional national survey (N = 6,131, 13-40 years old) in which participants reported ever use, past-30-day-use, and order of use for 17 different tobacco and cannabis products. Results were analyzed overall and by age group (13-20; 21-24; 25-40). RESULTS 38.4% of participants reported use of both tobacco and cannabis in the past 30 days. Among these participants, 70.9% used tobacco first in their lifetime (66.6% < 21; 71.7% 21-24; 76.6% > 24). Approximately 60% of participants who initiated co-use with tobacco reported nicotine e-cigarettes as their first tobacco product (63.3% < 21; 66.7% 21-24; 49.6% > 24). CONCLUSIONS The majority of participants who used both tobacco and cannabis used tobacco first in their lifetime, and nicotine e-cigarettes were the most common form of tobacco initiation, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Findings emphasize the need for co-use prevention programs to target common products of initiation.

Abstract
Background Blunts (i.e., cannabis rolled in cigar paper with or without tobacco) are a popular way of consuming cannabis. Little survey research has examined knowledge and beliefs about blunts, especially among youth who use cigars or are susceptible to cigar use. Methods Participants were a convenience sample of N = 506 youth (ages 15-20) from the United States (US) recruited April-June 2023 who reported ever using little cigars or cigarillos (LCCs), past 30-day use of LCCs, or susceptibility to using LCCs. We used adjusted logistic and ordinal regression models to examine correlates of knowledge that blunts contain nicotine and, separately, relative addiction/harm perceptions for blunts vs. unmodified cigars containing only tobacco. Results One-third of youth (32.1 %) thought that blunts do not contain nicotine. Around half of youth thought that blunts were "much less" or "slightly less" addictive (45.0 %) and "much less" or "slightly less" harmful (51.5 %) than unmodified cigars. Youth who identified as Black/African American (vs. white) had lower odds of knowledge that blunts contain nicotine (aOR = 0.51, 95 % CI: 0.30, 0.87). Youth who frequently used blunts were less likely to report that blunts were more addictive (aOR = 0.39; 95 % CI: 0.24, 0.63) and harmful (aOR = 0.31; 95 % CI: 0.19, 0.50 (vs. unmodified cigars) compared with youth who never used blunts. Conclusions Our study with a sample of US youth-who have used or are susceptible to using LCCs-found that about 1 in 3 participants thought that blunts do not contain nicotine, and many believed blunts were less harmful and addictive than unmodified cigars.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Co-use of tobacco and cannabis has long been an issue for prevention and intervention efforts targeting these substances. Blunt use-cannabis inside a cigar wrapper-has been a consistent mode of cannabis consumption since the 1990s. Since then, both tobacco control and cannabis policies have changed considerably. This paper examines the influence of tobacco taxes and smoke-free policies as well as medical and recreational cannabis policies on blunt use among young people. METHODS Combining state-level tobacco control and cannabis policy data with the restricted-access youth cohort of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) study, we use multilevel logistic regression models to examine the impact of these policies on past-year blunt use. RESULTS While we found a main effect whereby both legal medical and recreational cannabis policies are associated with higher odds of blunt use among youth, interaction effects demonstrate that this association only emerges in states lacking a comprehensive tobacco smoke-free policy. In states with smoke-free policies, we found no significant associations between cannabis policy and odds of blunt use. CONCLUSIONS Denormalization through smoke-free policies may mitigate the effects of recreational and medical cannabis policies on blunt use. Smoke-free policies represent a possible cost-effective mechanism to curb the co-use of tobacco and cannabis in the form of blunts. States with medical and recreational cannabis policies may benefit from greater prevention efforts for young people specifically focused on blunt use, especially in states that do not have strong tobacco control.

Abstract
A "blunt" is a hollowed-out cigar/cigarillo from which much of the loose tobacco has been removed, and the remaining tobacco wrapper filled with cannabis. Although blunts contain significant levels of tobacco/nicotine, they are often treated as if they were exclusive cannabis products and omitted from surveys of tobacco products. Whereas the prevalence of virtually all other tobacco products is on the decline in the USA, available data suggest that the prevalence of blunt smoking is not - and in fact, it may be increasing. Blunts are most frequently used by people who self-identify as Black. As a result of misperceptions and perhaps biases, there is a dearth of scientific investigation, hence knowledge, surrounding the health effects associated with blunt smoking. Co-use of tobacco and cannabis has been reported to have additive and even synergistic adverse health effects. Lack of investigations into the health effects of tobacco products most frequently used by Black people may contribute to tobacco-related health disparities. We argue that the scientific and public health communities must treat blunts as the potentially lethal tobacco product that they are, studying their prevalence and use patterns, and investigating their adverse health effects, both short and long term.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Approximately 1 in 6 cannabis users develop a cannabis use disorder (CUD) and the odds increase to 1 in 2 for daily users. OBJECTIVE The Dual use of Cannabis and Tobacco Monitoreing through a Gamified Web app (DuCATA_GAM-CaT) project aims to identify cannabis-tobacco patterns of use and withdrawal symptoms among individuals with CUD who are attending substance abuse programs. METHODS The project uses a mixed methods approach consisting of 3 studies. First, a participatory qualitative study involves focus groups comprising individuals with CUD, clinicians, project researchers, and an expert gamification company to co-design a gamified web app. Second, a longitudinal prospective study to follow up individuals over 6 weeks with CUD attending substance abuse programs . Participants report their cannabis-tobacco usage patterns, type and frequency of tobacco use, nicotine dependence, withdrawal symptoms, psychoemotional factors, and motivation to quit both substances. Predictive analysis techniques are used to analyze clinical, demographic, psychological, and environmental data to predict the probability of achieving abstinence. Third, homogeneous focus groups to explore participants' experiences during their CUD treatment. RESULTS By June 2024, the project had completed the first study, defining eligible cannabis user profiles, developed the initial web app prototype, and initiated recruitment across 10 centers, with 74 participants enrolled, aiming to reach 150 participants in total. CONCLUSIONS All participants are required to provide informed consent, and their information is kept confidential and anonymized following confidentiality rules. The research team is committed to disseminating the results obtained to professional and patient groups, as well as informing public health agents, to positively influence political and social decision makers and design programmers. Additionally, we aim to prioritize the publication of the results in high-impact journals specialized in drug abuse, public health, and health care services research. Abstract
INTRODUCTION The use of cigars for blunts (i.e., cannabis rolled in cigar paper) is well-documented; prevalence of cigar and blunt use and associated characteristics are less studied. METHODS Pooled data from the 2015-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) were analyzed in 2023. Respondents aged 12+ who reported past 30-day cigar use were categorized into three mutually exclusive use categories: (1) exclusively cigars, (2) exclusively blunts, and (3) both cigars and blunts. We examined associations between cigar-blunt use categories and sociodemographic characteristics. RESULTS Among respondents aged 12+ who reported past 30-day cigar use, 48.6% (95% CI=47.6-49.6) reported exclusive cigar use; 44.3% (95% CI=43.3-45.3) reported exclusive blunt use; and 7.2% (95% CI=6.8-7.6) reported cigars and blunts. The prevalence differed by age, with exclusive blunt use most prevalent among youth (72.5% [95% CI=70.7-74.3]) and young adults (62.4% [95% CI=61.4-63.5]), and exclusive cigar use most prevalent among adults 26+ (61.2% [95% CI=59.8-62.5]). Exclusive blunt users smoked more days in the past month (17.5; 95% CI=16.8-18.2), compared to 13.8 days (95% CI=13.2-14.4) for cigar and blunt users, and 7.7 days (95% CI=7.5-8.0) for exclusive cigar users. There were significant differences in sociodemographic characteristics, with female (41.6%; 95% CI=40.3-42.9) and Hispanic (18.2%; 95% CI=17.3-19.2) participants more likely to report exclusive blunt use. CONCLUSIONS Exclusive blunt use was the most prevalent pattern of past-30-day cigar use among youth and young adults. Those who use cigars as blunts smoked more cigars per month, suggesting this may be an important group for education and policy efforts. IMPLICATIONS Studies that aggregate cigars and blunts into one group may limit potentially meaningful subgroup risk profiles. Additionally, when assessing cigar use, particularly among youth and young adults, it is important to consider blunt use to avoid missing youth who exclusively use cigars for blunts and may not consider blunts as cigar products. Accurate measurement may better inform tobacco and cannabis regulatory actions. Finally, given the high prevalence of blunt use among youth and young adults identified in the present study, additional education efforts may be warranted for this population to reduce long-term risks.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study examines differences in reasons for e-cigarette, cigarette, and cannabis use across exclusive, dual, co-, and poly co-users. METHODS Participants were 645 young adults who reported past 30-day (P30D) use of e-cigarettes, cigarettes, or cannabis at wave 14 (Fall, 2021) of the Texas Adolescent Tobacco Marketing and Surveillance System (TATAMS). Exclusive users reported P30D use of one product, dual users reported P30D use of e-cigarettes and cigarettes, co-users reported use of cannabis and one tobacco product, and poly co-users reported P30D use of all three products. Participants were asked if they agreed with a series of reasons for using their respective products. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine associations between reasons for use and pattern of use, controlling for sex, race/ethnicity, and lifetime product use. RESULTS 26.36 % of P30D users reported cannabis and tobacco use. Poly co-users were more likely to report using e-cigarettes because their friends do than e-cigarette co-users (aRRR = 2.64; 95 %CI = 1.19-5.83) and dual tobacco users (aRRR = 5.11; 95 %CI = 1.73-15.12). Poly co-users were more likely to smoke cigarettes while drinking alcohol (aRRR = 4.68; 95 %CI = 1.06-20.72) or to experience a pleasurable buzz (aRRR = 5.48; 95 %CI = 1.62-18.57) than exclusive cigarette users. Poly co-users more often reported using cannabis for taste (aRRR = 3.13; 95 %CI = 1.51-6.51), because their friends use it (aRRR = 2.19; 95 %CI = 1.08-4.42), and while drinking alcohol (aRRR = 2.13; 95 %CI = 1.03-4.41) than exclusive cannabis users. CONCLUSIONS Given that reasons for use differ significantly among types of multiple product users and exclusive users, interventions should be tailored to address the specific tobacco and cannabis use practices of young adults.

Abstract
Regular cigarette smoking and cannabis consumption are strongly positively related to each other, yet few studies explore their underlying variation and covariation. We evaluated the genetic and environmental decomposition of variance and covariance of these two traits in twin data from three countries with different social norms and legislation. Data from the Netherlands Twin Register, FinnTwin12/16, and the Minnesota Center for Twin Family Research (total N = 21,617) were analyzed in bivariate threshold models of lifetime regular smoking initiation (RSI) and lifetime cannabis initiation (CI). We ran unstratified models and models stratified by sex and country. Prevalence of RSI was lowest in the Netherlands and prevalence of CI was highest in Minnesota. In the unstratified model, genetic (A) and common environmental factors (C) contributed substantially to the liabilities of RSI (A = 0.47, C = 0.34) and CI (A = 0.28, C = 0.51). The two liabilities were significantly phenotypically (rP = 0.56), genetically (rA = 0.74), and environmentally correlated in the unstratified model (rC = 0.47and rE = 0.48, representing correlations between common and unique environmental factors). The magnitude of phenotypic correlation between liabilities varied by country but not sex (Minnesota rP ~ 0.70, Netherlands rP ~ 0.59, Finland rP ~ 0.45). Comparisons of decomposed correlations could not be reliably tested in the stratified models. The prevalence and association of RSI and CI vary by sex and country. These two behaviors are correlated because there is genetic and environmental overlap between their underlying latent liabilities. There is heterogeneity in the genetic architecture of these traits across country.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To characterize and compare transitions in blunt smoking behaviors among a diverse cohort of youth and young adults observed between Spring 2019 and Fall 2021. METHODS We analyzed n = 14,152 observations (i.e., completed surveys) provided by n = 2,610 youth and young adults over six (6) waves from Spring 2019 to Fall 2021 via the Texas Adolescent Tobacco and Marketing Surveillance (TATAMS) system. Participants were recruited in age-cohorts, reflecting 16.5 years (0.5), 18.5 years (0.6), and 20.1 years (0.8) of age at baseline. We applied a three-state Markov model to estimate blunt initiation (never → ever), onset (never → current), continuation (ever → current), and discontinuation (current → ever). First, we compared transitions in blunt smoking by race/ethnicity, with non-Hispanic (NH) Whites as the referent. Second, we stratified the Markov models by race/ethnicity to identify common and unique predictors of blunt transitions, including sex, age, alcohol use, depression, anxiety, and tobacco cigar smoking. RESULTS At baseline, 73% of participants had never smoked blunts, 15.3% had ever smoked blunts s, and 11.7% currently smoked blunts. NHB (HR: 2.15; 95% CI: 1.21-3.84) and Hispanic (HR: 1.72; 95% CI: 1.08-2.72) participants had significantly greater risk of blunt smoking initiation, relative to NHWs. Similarly, NHBs had great risk for continuation (HR: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.16-2.34) and lower risk of discontinuation (HR: 0.57; 95% CI: 0.42-0.77), relative to NHWs. Alcohol use predicted greater risk for onset among NHW (HR: 5.22; 95% CI: 1.40-19.45), NHB (HR: 3.14; 95% CI: 1.32-7.46), and Hispanic (HR: 2.99; 95% CI: 1.80-4.97) participants. CONCLUSIONS Blunt smoking initiation was most common among NHB and Hispanic youth and young adults while risk for sustained blunt smoking was higher in NHB youth and young adults. Research and interventions should investigate the link between alcohol use and elevated blunt smoking among young people.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To identify how flavor is conceptualized with respect to cigarillos to illuminate areas of concordance and discordance and provide a pathway for the harmonization of tobacco flavor measurement. AIMS AND METHODS Three methods were used to identify research measuring flavors respective to cigarillo products including: (1) querying research databases using key words "cigarillo," "tobacco" and "flavor"/'flavour,' (2) sub-sampling of the eligible literature with backward and forward reference searching, and (3) a bibliographic search of key experts. Two reviewers independently screened titles, abstracts, and full texts. Inclusion criteria required manuscripts to be available in English, published prior to 3/1/2022, be original and peer-reviewed, and include a measure of flavor pertaining to cigarillo products. A total of 163 manuscripts met these criteria and were subsequently evaluated. RESULTS Cigarillo flavor determinations were made based on the presence of flavoring agents, sensory characteristics, marketing or package characteristics, pre-defined lists, the absence of any of these, and/or were undefined. Individual flavors and their related classifications were not altogether mutually exclusive due to differences in conceptualization which has evolved over time. CONCLUSIONS Flavor measures continue to evolve, likely in response to both tobacco control policies and industry shifts. There is a lack of standardization in flavor conceptualization that can be ameliorated through intentional integration of multiple forms of research such as identifying patterns of flavoring agents and/or marketing strategies that elicit a specific flavor profile. By doing this, we may more comprehensively evaluate the impact of flavors, their constituents, and related marketing strategies on broader population health. IMPLICATIONS There are discrepancies in the conceptualization of flavor in tobacco and nicotine products. The lack of standardized, definitive language limits our ability to comprehensively evaluate the population-level health impact of flavors in addition to our ability to effectively inform, implement, and enforce policies restricting flavors in tobacco and nicotine products.

Abstract
To inform early intervention, this study describes correlates of substance use among young people with serious mental illness (SMI) enrolled in integrated care in community mental health settings. 227 adults ages 18-35 were assessed for clinical characteristics and substance use. Logistic regressions were used to describe relationships between substance use and participant characteristics. Over a third (38.9%) reported daily cannabis, 15.9% past month other illicit drug, 13.5% frequent/heavy alcohol and 47.4% any of these; 50.2% reported daily tobacco smoking and 23.3% current vaping. Daily cannabis and tobacco were the most common combination. Alcohol, drug, and cannabis with tobacco were associated with higher mental health symptoms but not with emergency room or hospital utilization. Cannabis and other substance use was common and associated with higher symptoms but not with greater hospital utilization, suggesting that early intervention could prevent long-term negative consequences.

Abstract
Objective: Cannabis is frequently co-used with tobacco/nicotine products, especially among young adults. Little is known about the effects of this co-use on cannabis cessation outcomes. Within a sample of young adults using cannabis frequently (current use of ≥5 days/week in the past 3 months), this study aimed to (a) document sources of exposure to tobacco/nicotine products, whether used simultaneously with cannabis or on different occasions, (b) examine if the level of cumulated exposure to tobacco/nicotine (self-reported or from biochemical testing) could predict time to cannabis lapse during a cannabis abstinence period, and (c) explore the relationship between nicotine/tobacco exposure and time to cannabis lapse according to tobacco cigarette smoking status. Method: Urine cotinine measures and self-reported data on use of different tobacco/nicotine products, collected from 32 participants (aged 19 to 23), were analyzed to predict time to lapse during a 2-week period of attempted abstinence from cannabis, controlling for cannabis dependence and sex. Results: Half of participants (56.3%) used at least one tobacco/nicotine product. Higher urine cotinine, representing higher cumulated tobacco/nicotine exposure, was related to a higher risk of lapsing (Hazard Ratio [HR] = 1.64; 95%CI [1.04, 2.58]). The risk of lapsing was even higher ([HR] = 3.46; 95%CI [1.17, 10.25]) among heavily tobacco/nicotine exposed (>600 ng/mL, urine cotinine) participants than among unexposed (<50 ng/mL) or lightly/moderately exposed (50-600 ng/mL) participants. Among those smoking cigarettes (solely or in combination with other products), there was no relation between cotinine level and time to lapse, likely due to a reduced variability in abstinence probability and a high likelihood of lapse observed for higher cotinine levels, mainly achieved by cigarette use. Conclusions: With a rapidly changing landscape of tobacco/nicotine use, our results underscore the need to consider all sources of tobacco/nicotine exposure to fully understand the specific and cumulative contributions of tobacco/nicotine to cannabis cessation outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Many people remove the tobacco leaf from cigars and replace it with cannabis (ie, blunts), but few studies have examined whether messages about the risks of cigars, like warnings on cigar packages, can affect blunt use. METHODS Participants were 438 U.S. adults who reported past 30-day cigar use and ever blunt use, recruited from a probability-based national panel to take an online survey. In a 2 × 2 experiment with a between-subjects design, we manipulated two cigar warning characteristics: (1) warning type: text-only versus pictorial (ie, text + image) and (2) warning size: 30% (smaller) versus 50% (larger) of the product package. Participants then viewed six different warnings on a fictious cigarillo package, within their randomly assigned condition. After evaluating all stimuli, participants were asked the extent to which the warnings discouraged them from wanting to use cigars to smoke cannabis (ie, blunt perceived warning effectiveness). Response options ranged from "not at all" (1) to "a great deal" (5). RESULTS We observed no main effects of warning type or size on blunt perceived warning effectiveness. However, a significant interaction existed between the two experimental manipulations (p = .009). Whereas adding images made no difference to blunt perceived warning effectiveness when warnings were smaller (simple effect: -0.22, p = .28), images mattered for larger warnings. Specifically, adding images increased blunt perceived warning effectiveness when warnings were 50% of the product package (simple effect: 0.52, p = .008). CONCLUSIONS This experiment provides preliminary evidence that larger pictorial cigar warnings may discourage blunt use relative to larger but text-only warnings. IMPLICATIONS Blunts, which are hollowed out cigars with tobacco leaf wrappers that are filled with cannabis leaf, are one of the most common ways in which tobacco and cannabis are used simultaneously, yet few studies have examined whether messages about the risks of cigars can affect blunt use. We conducted an online experiment concerning the perceived effectiveness of cigar warnings among people who use blunts recruited from a probability-based panel. Results provide novel, preliminary evidence that larger pictorial cigar warnings may discourage blunt use, relative to larger but text-only warnings. More research evaluating cigar warnings on blunt use is needed.

Abstract
Background The use of cigars for blunts (i.e., cannabis rolled in cigar paper) is well-documented; proportions of cigar and blunt use and associated characteristics are less studied. Methods Pooled data from the 2015-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) were analyzed in 2023. Respondents aged 12+ who reported past 30-day cigar use were categorized into three mutually exclusive use categories: (1) exclusively cigars, (2) exclusively blunts, and (3) both cigars and blunts. We examined associations between cigar-blunt use category and sociodemographic characteristics. Results Among people 12 and older who reported past 30-day cigar use, 48.6% (95% CI=47.6-49.6) reported exclusive cigar use; 44.3% (95% CI=43.3-45.3) reported exclusive blunt use; and 7.2% (95% CI=6.8-7.6) reported cigars and blunts. The prevalence differed by age, with exclusively blunts most prevalent among youth (72.5% [95% CI=70.7-74.3]) and young adults (62.4% [95% CI=61.4-63.5]), and exclusively cigars most prevalent among adults 26+ (61.2% [95% CI=59.8-62.5]). Exclusive blunt users smoked more days in the past month (17.5; 95% CI=16.8-18.2), compared to 13.8 days (95% CI=13.2-14.4) for cigar and blunt users, and 7.7 days (95% CI=7.5-8.0) for exclusive cigar users. There were significant differences in characteristics, with exclusive blunt use more prevalent among female (41.6%; 95% CI=40.3-42.9) and Hispanic (18.2%; 95% CI=17.3-19.2) participants. Conclusions Exclusive blunt use was the most prevalent pattern of past-30-day cigar use among youth and young adults. Those who use cigars as blunts smoke more cigars per month, suggesting this may be an important group for additional education and policy efforts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nicotine and tobacco product (NTP) and cannabis use are common in adolescence/young adulthood and increase risk for negative psychosocial outcomes. This study investigated associations among adolescent/young adults' initial experiences with NTPs, lifetime frequency of substance use, substance-related problems, and mental health symptoms. METHOD Adolescents and young adults enrolled in a study on NTP and cannabis use were asked at what age they initiated the use of NTPs and were assigned to groups based on which product or substance(s) they reported using at the earliest age. Participants who reported use of NTPs (in isolation, without cannabis) first (N = 78, "NTP-only"), simultaneous use of NTPs and cannabis first (e.g., blunt or bowl; N = 25, "Simult-only"), use of both NTPs in isolation and simultaneous use at the same age (N = 48, "NTP + Simult"), and no NTP use (N = 53, "NTP-naïve") were compared on substance use, substance-related problems, and mental health symptoms. RESULTS Groups differed on lifetime frequency of NTP, simultaneous, and cannabis use, with NTP users reporting more substance use episodes and substance-related problems than the NTP-naïve group. The lifetime frequency of cannabis use did not differ across NTP use groups. NTP use was associated with increased anxiety and depression, with no significant differences between groups. CONCLUSIONS Adolescents and young adults who use nicotine may be at increased risk for greater nicotine use and mental health consequences, but initiating NTP use simultaneously with cannabis may not increase the risk of negative outcomes above and beyond nicotine initiation. Prospective longitudinal research is needed to establish temporal associations between first-used NTP/cannabis products and relevant outcomes.

Abstract
The rise in drug overdoses and harms associated with the use of more than one substance has led to increased use of the term "polysubstance use" among researchers, clinicians, and public health officials. However, the term retains no consistent definition across contexts. The current authors convened from disciplines including sociology, epidemiology, neuroscience, and addiction psychiatry to propose a recommended definition of polysubstance use. An iterative process considered authors' formal and informal conversations, insights from relevant symposia, talks, and conferences, as well as their own research and clinical experiences to propose the current definition. Three key concepts were identified as necessary to define polysubstance use: (1) substances involved, (2) timing, and (3) intent. Substances involved include clarifying either (1) the number and type of substances used, (2) presence of more than one substance use disorder, or (3) primary and secondary substance use. The concept of timing is recommended to use clear terms such as simultaneous, sequential, and same-day polysubstance use to describe short-term behaviors (e.g., 30-day windows). Finally, the concept of intent refers to clarifying unintentional use or exposure when possible, and greater attention to motivations of polysubstance use. These three components should be clearly defined in research on polysubstance use to improve consistency across disciplines. Consistent definitions of polysubstance use can aid in the synthesis of evidence to better address an overdose crisis that increasingly involves multiple substances.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Co-use of tobacco and cannabis is highly prevalent among cannabis users and is associated with poorer tobacco cessation outcomes. This study explored the barriers and enablers influencing stop-smoking practitioners' ability to provide optimal support to co-users. AIMS AND METHODS Online semi-structured interviews were audio recorded. Interviewees (n = 20) were UK-based certified stop-smoking practitioners. An interview schedule informed by the "capability", "opportunity", "motivation" (COM-B) model was designed to explore participants' perceived barriers and enablers in better supporting co-users to achieve abstinence of both substances or tobacco harm reduction. The transcripts were analyzed using framework analysis. RESULTS Capability: Practitioners' lack of knowledge and skills undermines their delivery of smoking cessation interventions to co-users. Interestingly, when cannabis is used for medicinal reasons, practitioners feel unable to provide adequate support. Opportunity: Service recording systems play an important role in screening for co-use and supporting co-users. When responding to clients' specific needs and practitioners' uncertainties, a positive therapeutic relationship and a support network of peers and other healthcare professionals are needed. Motivation: supporting co-users is generally perceived as part of practitioners' roles but there are concerns that co-users are less likely to successfully stop smoking. CONCLUSIONS Practitioners are willing to support co-users, but their lack of knowledge and access to an appropriate recording system are barriers to doing so. Having a supportive team and a positive therapeutic relationship is perceived as important. Identified barriers can be mostly addressed with further training to improve tobacco cessation outcomes for co-users.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed rulemaking to reduce the nicotine content in cigarettes and other combusted tobacco products to non-addictive levels. This qualitative study documents reactions to messages communicating this policy among people who use little cigars and cigarillos (LCCs). AIMS AND METHODS We conducted eight focus groups with participants from four populations with the highest prevalence of cigar use (African American males and females, white males and females). Participants described their reactions to eight messages about the policy: Three messages about the equal risk of LCCs with regular and low nicotine levels; three quit efficacy messages about low nicotine LCCs being easier to quit; one "compensation" message to correct misperceptions about the policy causing people to smoke more to get desired nicotine; and one message about using alternative nicotine sources (eg, e-cigarettes). RESULTS Participants perceived risk messages as the most motivating to quit, whereas efficacy messages made some participants feel that the policy would cause former users of LCCs to relapse. Many participants expressed favorable responses to the compensation message. The message about using alternative nicotine sources sparked intense responses, with many participants expressing outrage and mistrust of the message. Participants' beliefs that they were not addicted to LCCs dampened their perceptions of the effectiveness of the policy. CONCLUSIONS Perceptions of the addictiveness and relative harms of LCCS influenced responses to policy messages. The FDA should consider using different messages to communicate with people who use LCCs because they perceive LCCs as different from cigarettes. IMPLICATIONS This is the first study to document affective and cognitive responses to the FDA's reduced nicotine policy among people who use LCCs. The false belief that cigar products are less harmful than cigarettes may be influencing people's lack of support for the reduced nicotine policy and difficulty in understanding its potential positive impact. To maximize the public health benefit of the reduced nicotine policy, the FDA should include LCC products in the policy; however, it is crucial that they use educational messaging to clarify misperceptions regarding nicotine and harm as it applies to LCCs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Mental health problems in emerging adulthood are linked to tobacco and cannabis use, but whether race and ethnicity modifies these associations is unclear. METHODS We used data from wave 4 of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study (youth n = 6898, young adult n = 10,304) to conduct latent class analysis (LCA) of six past 30-day tobacco and cannabis use indicators (i.e., cigarettes, electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), cigars, blunts, cannabis vaping, other cannabis). We estimated associations between past 30-day internalizing and externalizing (i.e., low (referent), moderate, high) problems and latent classes of tobacco/cannabis use (vs. never/former use) using adjusted multinomial logistic regression. We explored whether associations varied by race and ethnicity through stratification. RESULTS We identified four exclusive use latent classes and two dual/poly use latent classes for both youth and young adult samples. Race/ethnicity-stratified models identified associations between internalizing/externalizing problems and most use classes for Hispanic and non-Hispanic White youth/young adults, with mixed results for non-Hispanic Black youth/young adults. For example, Hispanic (OR: 2.50, 95% CI: 1.09-5.74) and non-Hispanic White (OR: 1.90, 95% CI: 1.18-3.06) youth with high internalizing problems had higher odds of ENDS + cannabis vaping. Externalizing problems were not associated with use among non-Hispanic Black youth while internalizing problems were not associated with use among non-Hispanic Black young adults. CONCLUSION We observed racial/ethnic variation in mental health problems and tobacco and cannabis use. Understanding mental health problem and tobacco product and cannabis use comorbidity may better inform culturally relevant interventions aimed to prevent and reduce use.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Little is known about inhaled flavored cannabis use. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and patterns of flavored cannabis use and cannabis-tobacco co-use. METHODS This study surveyed adult past 30-day cannabis users in U.S. states and districts that have legalized cannabis for nonmedical/adult use (n=9) (November 2018; n=2,978). By product/behavior (any cannabis, cannabis extract vaporizers, mixed cannabis-nicotine vaporizers, blunts, chasing), the association between flavored (versus non-flavored) use and sociodemographic characteristics, cannabis use disorder symptoms, and tobacco use was estimated using weighted multivariable logistic regression in January 2022. RESULTS Almost half of adult cannabis users reported using at least one flavored cannabis product (46.5%). Flavored cannabis use was more likely among respondents who were female (AOR=1.2, CI=1.0, 1.4), were Black (ref: White; AOR=2.2, CI=1.5, 3.1), were Hispanic/Latino/a/x (ref: White; AOR=1.6, CI=1.2, 1.9), had cannabis use disorder symptoms (AOR=2.0, CI=1.6, 2.4), or were currently using tobacco (AOR=2.4, CI=2.1, 2.9). Use was less likely among middle-aged/older adults (ref: ages 21-34 vs 35-49 years; AOR=0.6, CI=0.5, 0.7). CONCLUSIONS Observed differences in flavored cannabis use are concerning if flavors raise appeal or dependence. Integrating flavored cannabis and tobacco research and practice is warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The co-use of nicotine and cannabis has been steadily rising in the United States. Rodent studies suggest that delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) could increase addictive qualities of nicotine, but whether repeated THC exposure alters self-administration of nicotine has not been tested. We hypothesized that THC would increase the reinforcing effects of nicotine and alter nicotine intake. METHODS Adult male and female Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with THC (0, 3, 30 mg/kg) daily for 14 days prior to and during training for intravenous self-administration of nicotine. Rats were allowed to self-administer nicotine for several weeks, then tested for sensitivity to nicotine dose through multiple determinations of a nicotine dose-effect curve with or without THC pretreatment. A separate set of rats were trained on fixed ratio responding for sucrose and assessed for THC effects on behavior. RESULTS Post-session THC decreased nicotine self-administration in male and female rats throughout acquisition and maintenance and increased the latency to stable rates of nicotine intake during acquisition. Post-session THC shifted nicotine dose-effect curves downward, and pre-session THC suppressed responding at higher nicotine doses. Unlike nicotine, responding for sucrose was not affected by post-session THC. Pre-session THC decreased responding for sucrose, particularly for THC-naïve rats. CONCLUSIONS Repeated post-session THC decreased nicotine-taking behaviors but did not alter sucrose responding. Thus, post-session THC may alter sensitivity to nicotine. Pre-session THC treatment decreased lever pressing in both sucrose and nicotine studies, indicating this effect was nonspecific. These studies show that THC modulates patterns of nicotine intake in rat models.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Historically, blunt use constituted tobacco-cannabis co-use based on the products available for creating blunts (e.g., hollowed-out cigars filled with cannabis). With the introduction of tobacco-free blunt wraps (e.g., hemp wraps), blunt use now may constitute tobacco-cannabis co-use or exclusive cannabis use. We examined adolescents' use of tobacco and tobacco-free blunt products and highlighted how misclassification of tobacco-cannabis co-use versus exclusive cannabis use may occur if products used to make blunts are not assessed. METHODS 4855 students from eight Connecticut high schools completed an online survey in 2022. Use of tobacco products for making blunts (e.g., cigarillos, tobacco blunt wraps) and tobacco-free blunt wraps were assessed as was the use of other tobacco products (e.g., e-cigarettes, cigarettes, hookah). The analytic sample comprised 475 students who endorsed lifetime blunt use. RESULTS Tobacco-free blunt wraps (72.6%) were the most popular product for making blunts, followed by cigarillos (56.5%), tobacco blunt wraps (49.2%), and large cigars (13.0%). When classified into mutually exclusive groups, students reported exclusive tobacco-free blunt use (32.3%), exclusive tobacco product blunt use (27.4%), or use of both tobacco product and tobacco-free blunts (40.3%). Among those exclusively using tobacco-free blunts, 13.4% endorsed no tobacco product use. CONCLUSIONS Tobacco-free blunt wraps were very popular among high school adolescents, highlighting the importance of assessing products used for making blunts. Assuming that blunts contain tobacco without considering tobacco-free blunts can lead to misclassification of blunt use as tobacco-cannabis co-use when it actually reflects exclusive cannabis use, potentially leading to inflated estimates of tobacco use. Abstract
Most tobacco warnings focus on health harms to the consumer, but other message themes may be promising. We assessed perceived message effectiveness (PME) among adults who smoke cigars for 12 cigar warning statements to discourage smoking, and measured PME across four message themes: explicit health effects to the consumer, secondhand smoke effects, chemicals/constituents, and toxicity. Between April 23 and May 7, 2020, we conducted an online study with U.S. adults who used any cigar type in the past 30 days (n = 777). Participants were randomly assigned to view two out of 12 warnings and rate each one on PME. We analyzed PME mean ratings (range 1 [low] to 5 [high]). The warning statements for lung cancer (M = 3.91) and heart disease (M = 3.77) had the highest PME ratings; secondhand smoke (M = 3.50) and formaldehyde (M = 3.48) had the lowest PME ratings. Multilevel analyses showed that the explicit health effects theme was associated with higher PME ratings compared to other warning themes (ps < 0.05 for chemicals/constituents and secondhand smoke effects) except toxicity (p =.16). Higher awareness of consequences was associated with higher PME ratings (p <.001). Higher nicotine dependence was also associated with higher PME ratings (p = .004). Warning statements with information addressing the themes of health harms and toxicity could potentially inform those who smoke cigars about the broader harms of cigar use and should be considered in FDA labeling regulations for cigars.

Abstract
The aim of this exploratory analysis was to evaluate cannabis exposure, reasons for use and problematic cannabis use among adult primary care patients in Washington state (United States) who co-use cannabis and nicotine (tobacco cigarettes and/or nicotine vaping) compared to patients who endorse current cannabis use only. As part of a NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN) parent study, patients who completed a cannabis screen as part of routine primary care were randomly sampled (N = 5,000) to a receive a confidential cannabis survey. Patients were stratified and oversampled based on the frequency of past-year cannabis use and for Black, indigenous, or other persons of color. Patients who endorsed past 30-day cannabis use are included here (N = 1388). Outcomes included; prevalence of cannabis use, days of cannabis use per week and times used per day, methods of use, THC:CBD content, non-medical and/or medical use, health symptoms managed, and cannabis use disorder (CUD) symptom severity. We conducted unadjusted bivariate analyses comparing outcomes between patients with cannabis and current nicotine co-use to patients with cannabis-only use. Nicotine co-use (n = 352; 25.4 %) was associated with differences in method of cannabis use, THC:CBD content, days of use per week and times used per day, number of health symptoms managed, and CUD severity (all p < 0.001), compared to primary care patients with cannabis-only use (n = 1036). Interventions targeting cannabis and nicotine co-use in primary care are not well-established and further research is warranted given findings of more severe cannabis use patterns and the adverse health outcomes associated with co-use.

Abstract
Concurrent use of e-cigarettes and cannabis among adolescents and emerging adults is a growing public health concern. More research is needed describing cannabis use among adolescents and emerging adults who vape. The objective of this study was to characterize cannabis use among adolescents and emerging adults (age 14-20) who reported e-cigarette ever-use, particularly their use of blunts and liquid cannabis vape (LCV) products. Using cross-sectional data from a national online survey, we describe their patterns of cannabis use, detail their use of flavored cannabis and tobacco products, and estimate associations of demographic factors and other current substance use behaviors with levels of blunt and LCV use. Of the 2253 respondents in the sample, 1379 (61 %) reported some form of cannabis use in the past 30 days, among whom 80 % used flavored cannabis (including edibles). Significant associations with current cannabis use were observed on several demographic measures, with current cannabis blunt use more frequent among participants not in school, non-Hispanic Blacks, multiracial respondents, and those whose incomes do not meet their expenses. Other than income, demographic characteristics were generally not associated with LCV use frequency. Use of other substances was associated with more frequent use of both blunts and LCV in the past 30 days, and enrollment in college or the military seems somewhat protective for emerging adults. These findings suggest a need for tailored prevention efforts among high-risk adolescents and emerging adults, potential regulation of added flavors in commercialized cannabis products, and stronger enforcement of retail restrictions for individuals under age 21 more broadly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The US Food and Drug Administration requires six text-only warnings for cigar products, including cigarillos. Research has demonstrated the superiority of pictorial over text-only cigarette warnings, yet the relative effectiveness of pictorial warnings for cigarillos has not been examined. We examined the impact of pictorial cigarillo warnings compared with text-only warnings. METHODS Data were collected from a nationally representative sample of US young adult (18-29) cigarillo users and susceptible non-users. Participants were randomised to one of three experimental conditions: text-only or one of two pictorial conditions (combined for analyses). For each warning, we assessed negative emotional reactions, cognitive elaboration (ie, thinking about cigarillo risks) and perceived message effectiveness (PME). RESULTS Participants (N=661) were 46.5% female, 64.7% white and 21.9% Hispanic; 34.1% reported past 30-day cigarillo use; 41.4% were lifetime users (excluding past 30-day use); and 24.4% were susceptible non-users. Pictorial warnings elicited more negative emotional reactions and higher PME than text-only warnings (p values<0.01), with interactions showing the largest effects for past 30-day users (emotional reactions: d=0.99, PME: d=0.63). For cognitive elaboration, there was no main effect of warning type, but an interaction revealed effects for past 30-day users (p<0.05, d=0.46). CONCLUSIONS Pictorial cigarillo warnings elicited greater negative emotional reactions and PME compared with text-only warnings. These effects and the effects on cognitive elaboration were strongest for past 30-day users. Our findings extend research on cigarette warnings to cigarillos, demonstrating that pictorial warnings are superior to text-only warnings for cigarillos in eliciting beneficial responses.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Increasing cannabis legalization raises concerns that the use of tobacco, frequently used with cannabis, will also increase. This study investigated the association between the legal status of cannabis in places of residence and the prevalence of cannabis and tobacco co-use, simultaneous use, and mixing by comparing the prevalence among adults in Canada (prior to cannabis legalization) vs. adults in US states that had legalized recreational cannabis vs. US states that had not as of September 2018. METHODS Data were drawn from the 2018 International Cannabis Policy Study, conducted with respondents aged 16-65 in Canada and the US recruited from nonprobability consumer panels. Differences in the prevalence of co-use, simultaneous use, and mixing between tobacco and different cannabis products were examined using logistic regression models by legal status of place of residence among past-12-month cannabis consumers (N = 6744). RESULTS Co-use and simultaneous use in the past 12 months were most common among respondents in US legal states. Among cannabis consumers, co-use and simultaneous use were less common in US legal states, while mixing was less frequent in US states with both legal and illegal cannabis compared to Canada. Use of edibles was associated with lower odds of all three outcomes, while smoking dried herb or hash was associated with higher odds. CONCLUSIONS The proportion of cannabis consumers who used tobacco was lower in legal jurisdictions despite higher prevalence of cannabis use. Edible use was inversely associated with co-use, suggesting that edible use does not appear to be associated with increased tobacco use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Co-use of tobacco and cannabis and dual use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes are very common among young adults. However, it is unclear whether co-use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and/or cannabis is associated with higher levels of nicotine dependence than cigarette-only use. We investigated the relationship between cigarette/nicotine dependence and co-use of tobacco and cannabis among 4 groups of cigarette smokers aged 18-35: cigarette-only smokers, cigarette-e-cigarette (CIG-ECIG) co-users, cigarette-cannabis (CIG-CAN) co-users, and cigarette-e-cigarette-cannabis (CIG-ECIG-CAN) co-users. METHODS Data were from a 2018 cross-sectional survey based on a national convenience sample of smokers aged 18-35 (n = 315). Cigarette/nicotine dependence was measured by the Fagerstrom Test of Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and e-cigarette dependence was measured by the Penn State E-cigarette Dependence Index. Bivariate analyses examined sociodemographic and tobacco/other substance use characteristics by co-use status and multivariable linear regression assessed the relationship between co-use and nicotine dependence. RESULTS In the sample, 27.6% were cigarette-only smokers, 24.8% were CIG-ECIG, 27.6% were CIG-CAN, and 20.0% were CIG-ECIG-CAN co-users. Significant differences were observed in sociodemographic and tobacco/other substance use characteristics by co-use status. E-cigarette co-users had low e-cigarette dependence, but moderate FTND scores. In adjusted analyses, only CIG-ECIG co-use was associated with higher FTND scores compared to cigarette-only smoking. However, CIG-ECIG and CIG-ECIG-CAN co-use were associated with higher FTND scores compared to CIG-CAN co-use. CONCLUSIONS Co-use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes was associated with greater nicotine dependence among smokers aged 18-35. Additional research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms of these relationships and inform prevention efforts.

Abstract
AIMS To measure longitudinal trajectories of marijuana use in four tobacco/nicotine products (hand-rolled cigarettes/spliffs, cigars/blunts, hookah, and e-cigarettes) among young adult Texas college students from 2015 to 2019. DESIGN This study used six consecutive waves of data from the marketing and promotions across colleges in Texas project (Project M-PACT), a longitudinal study of the tobacco behaviors of young adult college students. The first four waves were collected every 6 months (fall 2015-spring 2017), and the final two waves were conducted yearly (spring 2018 and 2019). Growth curve models measured trajectories of marijuana use in tobacco products across the 3.5-year period. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS A total of 4857 young adults from 24 colleges in the largest metropolitan areas of Texas, United States (Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio): mean age = 21.0, SD = 2.3; 64.2% assigned female; 36.1% non-Hispanic white, 31.0% Hispanic, and 33.0% other or combination race/ethnicity. MEASUREMENTS Participants completed online surveys assessing their past 6-month use of marijuana in four tobacco products of interest (spliffs, blunts, hookah, and e-cigarettes) and socio-demographic variables (sex, race/ethnicity, age, 2-year/4-year college attendance, and sexual and gender minority identity). FINDINGS Observed vaping marijuana in e-cigarettes approximately doubled between the spring of 2015 and the spring of 2019, from 11.8% to 23.9% following a quadratic time trend (linear OR = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.73-0.97, quadratic OR = 1.18, CI = 1.13-1.22). This same time period saw a quadratic decline in using marijuana in hookah (P < 0.001) and no changes in using hand-rolled cigarettes/spliffs or cigars/blunts for marijuana delivery. CONCLUSIONS The popularity of nicotine e-cigarettes appears to be expanding the avenues for marijuana delivery among young adults in Texas, United States.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cannabis use frequently co-occurs with gambling, and evidence indicates that both acute and chronic cannabis use may influence gambling behavior. The primary aim of the present study was to further contribute to the literature on this relationship by examining data collected from a Canadian national study of gambling. METHODS Respondents consisted of 10,054 Canadian gamblers recruited from Leger Opinion's (LEO) online panel. In this study, gamblers who used cannabis were compared with non-users across a number of gambling as well as demographic and mental health variables. RESULTS Of the total sample, 25.4 % reported past 12-month cannabis use. Among the 2,553 cannabis-users, 21.3 % reported daily use, and 69.9 % reported using once a month or more. A total of 56.2 % indicated they had used cannabis while gambling in the past 12 months. Bivariate analysis found significant differences between cannabis use and non-use on numerous demographic, mental health, and gambling-related variables. Individuals with greater problem gambling severity scores, more hours gambling, and a larger range of gambling activities were more likely to endorse using cannabis. Hierarchical logistic regression revealed that tobacco use, and having experienced significant child abuse were predictors of cannabis use. Non-use of cannabis was associated with older age, less engagement in online gambling, and being less likely to consume alcohol. CONCLUSION The present findings both corroborate previous studies and expand upon the relationship between cannabis and gambling.

Abstract
Whilst the cannabis-cancer link has been traditionally described as controversial recent whole nation and whole continent studies have demonstrated that well documented laboratory-based multimodal cannabinoid genotoxicity is indeed reflected in numerous cancer types in larger epidemiological series. A recent longitudinal human sperm epigenome-wide DNA methylation screen in both cannabis dependence and cannabis withdrawal has revealed remarkable insights into the manner in which widespread perturbations of DNA methylation may lead to cancerogenic changes in both the exposed and subsequent generations as a result of both cannabis exposure and withdrawal. These results therefore powerfully strengthen and further robustify the causal nature of the relationship between cannabinoid exposure and cancerous outcomes well beyond the previously published extensive mechanistic literature on cannabinoid genotoxicity. The reported epigenomic results are strongly hypothesis generating and call powerfully for further work to investigate oncogenic mechanisms in many tissues, organs and preclinical models. These epigenomic results provide an extraordinarily close predictive account for the epidemiologically observed pattern of cannabis-related malignant disease and indicate that malignant and multigenerational cannabinoid epigenotoxicity is potentially a significant and major public health concern.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cannabis legalization and increases in cannabis use are occurring rapidly in the United States (US). Cannabis and tobacco are often used together, but it is unclear whether cannabis legalization will differentially affect cannabis use among those using cigarettes. This study estimated changes from 2004 to 2017 in the prevalence of cannabis use and daily cannabis use by cigarette use status and examined whether state-level cannabis policy modified these trends. METHODS Public and restricted-use data from the 2004-2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health were analyzed. Weighted logistic regressions were used to examine time trends in past-30-day cannabis use and daily caunabis use by cigarette use and cannabis law status from 2004 to 2017. RESULTS Cannabis use and daily use increased significantly among those with and without cigarette smoking. Cannabis use and daily cannabis use were consistently 2-10x more common throughout this time among those with, versus without, cigarette smoking. In 2017, cannabis use and daily cannabis use were substantially more common among individuals who use cigarettes, and even greater among those who live in states where cannabis was legal for medical or recreational (i.e., non-medical) use. CONCLUSIONS Cannabis use and daily cannabis use are increasing among US individuals who both smoke and do not smoke cigarettes. Cannabis and daily cannabis use are more common among those who smoke cigarettes and elevated even further among those residing in states that have legalized cannabis for recreational (i.e., non-medical) use. Tobacco control efforts should be adjusted to address increases in cannabis use among Americans who smoke cigarettes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cigar use, including little cigars and cigarillos (LCCs) and large traditional cigars, continues to harm young adults. Research on harm beliefs about cigars, particularly large cigars, is sparse. The current study examined cigar harm beliefs and associations with cigar use. Methods: Data are from a 2019 survey of a young adult cohort study recruited in fall 2010. Participants were asked questions about their beliefs about the harm of LCC and large cigar use. Those reporting ever use of cigars were asked how frequently they inhale the smoke into their lungs. Results: Participants (N = 1910) were 51.9% female with a mean age of 26.7 (SD = 0.6). Ever cigar use was 44.2% for large cigars and 43% for LCCs. Compared to those who have never used large cigars or LCCs, those reporting ever use of large cigars or LCCs reported lower harm beliefs about inhaling harmful chemicals and becoming addicted (ps <.0001). Those who reported higher harm beliefs also reported inhaling the smoke into their lungs more frequently for large cigars and LCCs (ps<.05). Conclusions: Cigar use harm beliefs were lower among participants reporting ever use of cigars compared to those reporting never use. Contrary to predictions, those reporting greater harm beliefs were more likely to report inhaling smoke more frequently than those with lower harm beliefs.

Abstract
AIMS To estimate the impact of recreational and medical cannabis laws (RCL, MCL) on the use of cannabis and cigarettes in the United States. DESIGN A difference-in-difference approach was applied to data from the 2004-17 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). SETTING United States. PARTICIPANTS Nationally representative cross-sectional survey of Americans aged 12 years and older (combined analytical sample for 2004-17, n = 783 663). MEASUREMENTS Data on past-month use of (1) cigarettes and (2) cannabis were used to classify respondents into four groups: cigarette and cannabis co-use, cigarette-only use, cannabis-only use or no cigarette or cannabis use. State of residence was measured by self-report. MCL/RCL status came from state government websites. FINDINGS Difference-in-difference analyses suggest that MCL was associated with an increase in cigarette-cannabis co-use overall [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.09; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.02-1.16], with the greatest increases among those aged 50 years and above (aOR = 1.60; CI = 1.39-1.84), married (aOR = 1.19; CI = 1.07-1.31), non-Hispanic (NH) black (aOR = 1.14; CI = 1.02-1.07) and with a college degree or above (aOR = 1.15; CI = 1.06-1.24). MCL was associated with increases in cigarette-only use among those aged 50 years and above (aOR = 1.07; CI = 1.01-1.14) and NH black (aOR = 1.16; CI = 1.06-1.27) and increases in cannabis-only use among those aged 50 years and above (aOR = 1.24; CI = 1.07-1.44) and widowed/divorced/separated (aOR = 1.18; CI = 1.01-1.37). RCL was associated with an increase in cannabis-only use overall (aOR = 1.21; 95% CI = 1.09-1.34), a decline in cigarette-only use overall (aOR = 0.89; 95% CI = 0.81-0.97) and increases in co-use among those who were married (aOR = 1.24; CI = 1.02-1.50) and aged 50 years and above (aOR = 1.37; CI = 1.03-1.84). CONCLUSIONS Recreational and medical cannabis legalization have had a varying impact on the use, and co-use, of cannabis and cigarettes in the United States.

Abstract
Among the numerous agents that damage DNA, tobacco products remain one of the most lethal and result in the most diverse set of DNA lesions. This perspective aims to provide an overview of computational work conducted to complement experimental biochemical studies on the mutagenicity of adducts derived from the most potent tobacco carcinogen, namely 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (nicotine-derived nitrosaminoketone or NNK). Lesions ranging from the smallest methylated thymine derivatives to the larger, flexible pyridyloxobutyl (POB) guanine adducts are considered. Insights are obtained from density functional theory (DFT) calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations into the damaged nucleobase and nucleoside structures, the accommodation of the lesions in the active site of key human polymerases, the intrinsic base pairing potentials of the adducts, and dNTP incorporation opposite the lesions. Overall, the computational data provide atomic level information that can rationalize the differential mutagenic properties of tobacco-derived lesions and uncover important insights into the impact of adduct size, nucleobase, position, and chemical composition of the bulky moiety.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Current measures of nicotine dependence (ND) were developed and validated for cigarette smokers only, limiting their utility for other combustible tobacco users. This study evaluates the psychometric properties of a pool of new and adapted items to measure ND among cigarillo and multiple tobacco product users. METHODS Items were drawn from the PROMIS Nicotine Dependence Item Bank which were adapted to be product neutral and new items were developed from a qualitative study of 60 adolescent and young adult cigarillo smokers. A total of 42 ND items were included in a web-based survey. Eligible participants were 14 to 28 year olds who smoked a minimum of 2 cigarillos per week. Analyses included confirmatory factor analysis, item response theory analysis, analysis of differential item functioning (DIF) and reliability. Ordinary least square regression was used to test the association of ND score with deciles of nicotine consumption. RESULTS Among the 1089 participants, the median number of cigarillos smoked per week was 20; 54% of participants also smoked cigarettes. All PROMIS items and 8 of 10 new items met the IRT fit criteria. Two PROMIS items had non-ignorable DIF. The pool of 40 items had good score reliability for a range of 2 standard deviations. Twenty-, eight-, and four-item short forms showed similarly good measurement properties; each was positively associated with decile of nicotine consumption, p<.001; R 2 = 0.33. CONCLUSIONS This adapted bank of ND items is psychometrically sound and includes items that are product neutral, making it suitable for assessing ND among cigarillo and polytobacco users. IMPLICATIONS This study rigorously evaluates adapted items to measure ND among cigarillo and polytobacco users and reports the reliability initial evidence of validity of short form scores.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Understanding the prevalence of cannabis use among tobacco smokers has important implications for research in terms of intervention effectiveness and measurement in smoking cessation trials. The co-use of these substances also has important implications for health service planning, specifically ensuring appropriate and adequate clinical treatment. To date, there have been no synthesis of the literature on the prevalence of tobacco and cannabis co-use in adult clinical populations. Improved understanding of the current prevalence, route of administration and specific subpopulations with the highest rates of tobacco and cannabis co-use will support future intervention development. We aim to provide a pooled estimate of the percentage of smokers who report using cannabis and to examine the prevalence of co-use by sociodemographic characteristics. METHODS AND ANALYSIS We will conduct a systematic review using six scientific databases with published articles from 2000 to 2022 inclusive (CENTRAL, CINAHL, EMBASE, Medline, PsycINFO, Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection, Scopus). Peer-reviewed journal articles published in English that report on tobacco and cannabis use will be included. Rates of co-use (simultaneous or sequentially) and routes of administration will be assessed. Use in populations groups will be described. Quality assessments will be conducted for all included studies. Data will be synthesised using a narrative approach. This study will be conducted from June 2022 to the end of August 2022. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This review is based on previously published data and, therefore, ethical approval or written informed consent will not be required. It is the intention of the research team to disseminate the results of the systematic review as a peer-reviewed publication and conference presentations. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42020194051.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cannabis users who mix tobacco with cannabis are exposed to nicotine in the tobacco. We identified characteristics of young adult cannabis users who mix and investigated whether mixing frequency is associated with nicotine dependence (ND). METHODS Data were collected in self-report questionnaires in 2017-20 from 788 young adults (44% male; mean (SD) age 30.6 (1.0) years) participating in a longitudinal investigation of the natural course of ND. Using multivariable logistic regression, we assessed whether any of 16 sociodemographic, lifestyle, psychosocial or other characteristics were associated with mixing among 313 past-year cannabis users. We also assessed whether mixing frequency was associated with ND among 289 past-year cannabis users who had ever smoked cigarettes controlling for age, sex, and other sources of nicotine (i.e., number of cigarettes smoked, other tobacco products, second-hand smoke exposure). RESULTS Of 788 participants, 40 % (n = 313) reported past-year cannabis use. Of these, 150 (48 %) reported mixing. Younger age, lower education and income, past-year cigarette use, use of other tobacco products and illicit drugs, poor coping skills and gambling were associated with mixing. Number of ICD-10 ND criteria endorsed was associated with mixing < weekly (b(95 % CI) = 0.3(0.02,0.7)) and weekly/daily (0.5(0.1,0.9)) after controlling for other sources of nicotine. CONCLUSION Mixing is associated with ND and therefore may threaten tobacco control efforts by rendering quitting cigarette smoking more difficult among smokers who mix tobacco with cannabis. Mixing tobacco with cannabis should be considered as an additional source of nicotine exposure in studies of ND in young people.

Abstract
Tobacco smoking remains highly prevalent in high-risk groups, including young adults who use cannabis and a variety of other drugs. We examine whether co-administering cannabis with tobacco is associated with heavier and more persistent tobacco smoking compared to separate use of these substances among young adults who use drugs recreationally. Data are from a prospective population-based study of young adults residing in Queensland, Australia, who recurrently used ecstasy or methamphetamine. The mean age was 20.8 years at baseline, and 47% were female. An ordinal regression model was developed (n = 277) with levels of tobacco smoking at 4½ years as the outcome. At baseline, just under half the sample (44.6%) had not co-administered cannabis with tobacco in the last month, 9.5% rarely co-administered, 7.7% sometimes co-administered, and 38.2% always co-administered. Always co-administering cannabis with tobacco was associated with more frequent and persistent tobacco smoking at 4½ years (Odds Ratio (OR): 1.98, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.02, 3.83), independently of factors including baseline frequency of cannabis and tobacco use. Young adults who use cannabis should be advised not to co-administrate cannabis with tobacco, and comprise an important target group for tobacco smoking cessation interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tobacco use is high among marijuana and tobacco users, compared to tobacco-only users. This study examined the relative ranking (based on prevalence) of past 30-day tobacco product use separately across young adult and older adult past 30-day marijuana and tobacco co-users and tobacco-only users. METHOD Prevalence and relative ranking of past 30-day use of eight different tobacco products and blunts were examined in young adult (ages 18-24) and adults (ages 25 +) tobacco users who did and did not report past 30-day marijuana use (unweighted n = 33,644) from Wave 4 of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health study. Multiple logistic regressions examined increased odds of using each product in the past 30-days by marijuana and tobacco co-use. RESULTS Nearly half (47.9%) of past 30-day young adult tobacco users reported past 30-day marijuana use (e.g., co-use); 27.7% of adult tobacco users reported past 30-day co-use. Cigarettes were the most popular product used in the past 30-days across tobacco-only and co-users of both age groups. Rankings of all other tobacco products differed between the age groups. Among young adult co-users, blunts were ranked the second most popular product used in the past 30-days, followed by e-cigarettes, and then cigarillos/filtered cigars. Among adult co-users, blunts were ranked the fourth most popular product used in the past 30-days. Adult co-users reported significantly higher prevalence of past 30-day use of all combustible products compared to tobacco only users. CONCLUSIONS Co-users may be at increased risk of health consequences given high rates of combustible tobacco use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We investigated youth daily activity spaces, travel patterns, exposure to tobacco retail marketing, and tobacco and cannabis use and co-use. METHODS Data included 1,060 daily assessments from 100 participants (16-20 years old) in 8 California cities. Using GPS-enabled smartphones with a survey application, youth completed brief daily surveys, and location coordinates were obtained at one-minute intervals. Tobacco outlets in study cities were visited by observers to record outlet GPS point locations and data concerning tobacco marketing. Tobacco outlet addresses and GPS location coordinates were geocoded. Activity spaces were constructed by joining sequential location points. Measures included the number of outlets with outdoor tobacco marketing within 50 m of activity space polylines and the amount of time participants were within 50 m of these outlets each day. Participants also reported tobacco and cannabis use and whether they saw tobacco ads by their neighborhood, school, workplace, and anywhere else each day. Additionally each day they reported how much time they traveled by different modes of transportation, with parents/guardians, and with friends. RESULTS In mixed effects multinomial regression models, perceived exposure to tobacco marketing was associated with co-use of tobacco and cannabis on a given day (RRR = 1.66, p < 0.05). Although perceived exposure to tobacco marketing was not associated with tobacco use only, moderation analysis indicated that the likelihood of tobacco use was greater among youth who walked/biked/skated more (RRR = 5.22, p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Perceived exposure to tobacco marketing contributes to youth tobacco and cannabis use or co-use, especially for those who travel by walking/biking/skating.

Abstract
PURPOSE Heavy and prolonged use of cannabis is associated with several adverse health, legal and social consequences. Although cannabis use impacts all U.S. racial/ethnic groups, studies have revealed racial/ethnic disparities in the initiation, prevalence, prevention and treatment of cannabis use and Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD). This review provides an overview of recent studies on cannabis and CUD by race/ethnicity and a discussion of implications for cannabis researchers. FINDINGS The majority of studies focused on cannabis use and CUD among African American/Black individuals, with the smallest number of studies found among Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders. The limited number of studies highlight unique risk and protective factors for each racial/ethnic group, such as gender, mental health status, polysubstance use and cultural identity. SUMMARY Future cannabis studies should aim to provide a deeper foundational understanding of factors that promote the initiation, maintenance, prevention and treatment of cannabis use and CUD among racial/ethnic groups. Cannabis studies should be unique to each racial/ethnic group and move beyond racial comparisons.

Abstract
Objective: Self-control is a key factor in quitting cigarettes and practicing general self-control tasks may strengthen self-control. This study examined the feasibility and acceptability of a novel smoking-related self-control task. Method: Seventy-five adults with current cigarette smoking (Mage = 44.8, 74.7% male, 63.5% Black, 74.3% non-Latinx) were randomly assigned to practice a smoking-specific self-control task (Delay Smoking Task, n = 39) or a general self-control task (Posture Task, n = 36) for 1 week. Assessments included cigarettes per day (CPD), motivation to quit smoking, self-control, and task acceptability. Results: Most participants completed both appointments with no difference between task groups (p = .69). The Delay Smoking Task group rated the task as more difficult (p = .04) and more helpful for quitting smoking (p = .005) than did the Posture Task group. Self-control task groups did not differ in task effort (p = .66), task success (p = .14), or self-control used to practice the task (p = .13). Both task groups reported increased quit desire, expected quit success, quit confidence, and quit motivation (p < .05; partial η²s = 0.108-0.333). The time by task group interaction approached significance for expected quit success (p = .06; partial η² = .053), with the Delay Smoking Task group showing greater increases than the Posture Task group. Over the week, smoking decreased an average of 1.0 CPD with no difference between groups (p = .72; partial η² = 0.165). Conclusions: Practicing self-control was associated with increases in motivation to quit, confidence in quitting, and expected success at quitting smoking with similar changes for those practicing a smoking-specific versus a general self-control task. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Young people with depression and/or anxiety may self-medicate with tobacco or tobacco with marijuana to reduce their symptoms. This study sought to differentiate between the use of tobacco products as intended and tobacco products modified to accommodate marijuana, and to explore their relationships with symptoms of depression and anxiety among youth and young adults. METHODS The study is a secondary analysis of Wave 9 (Spring 2019) data from the Texas Adolescent Tobacco and Marketing Surveillance (TATAMS) (n=2439, N=274030). Anxiety and major depressive symptoms were measured by GAD-7 and PHQ-9, respectively. RESULTS The odds of reporting current use of e-cigarettes without marijuana (adjusted prevalence odds ratio, APOR=2.34; 95% CI: 1.30-4.21, p=0.005) and current use of combustible tobacco without marijuana (APOR=2.99; 95% CI: 1.26-7.09, p=0.014) were significantly higher among those who reported depression/anxiety comorbidity compared to those who reported no symptoms of major depressive symptoms (MDS), anxiety or comorbidity. The odds of reporting ever use of e-cigarettes with marijuana (APOR=3.68; 95% CI: 1.69- 8.00, p=0.001), current use of e-cigarettes with marijuana (APOR=2.76; 95% CI: 1.28-5.97, p=0.01) and ever use of combustible tobacco with marijuana (APOR=3.99; 95% CI: 1.66-9.58, p=0.002) were significantly higher among those reporting only MDS compared to those who reported no symptoms of MDS, anxiety or comorbidity. CONCLUSIONS The study findings can have implications for intervention planning, as interventions need to address marijuana and nicotine use in tobacco products and address anxiety and depression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Co-occurring use (co-use) of nicotine and cannabis is common, and represents a broad range of use behaviors, including concurrent use, sequential use, and co-administration. Co-use has primarily been examined through the lens of smoked tobacco and cannabis. Little is known about those who co-use vaped nicotine and cannabis, and the degree to which specific co-use behaviors are associated, based on mode of use and/or substance. METHODS We conducted an online pilot survey on use behaviors related to inhaled modes of nicotine and cannabis. The survey was administered to 112 concurrent vapers of these substances. Descriptive analyses examined sample characteristics and co-administered vaping and smoking behaviors. Logistic regressions examined associations in use behaviors by mode and substance. RESULTS Participants who vaped nicotine and cannabis monthly also reported monthly smoking of cannabis (100%), and cigarettes (58%). Most exhibited moderate-to-high degrees of mental health and substance use problems requiring clinical intervention. Monthly concurrent use exhibited more differences by mode, and more similarities by substance. Specific sequential use practices showed mode-specific associations; with greater frequency of cigarette smoking and nicotine vaping. Co-administration was associated with more frequent tobacco and cannabis smoking. CONCLUSIONS Those who regularly vape nicotine and cannabis tend to engage in some form of smoking. Different subsets of nicotine and cannabis co-use behaviors showed different associations with patterns of use and modes of drug delivery. Findings underscore the diversity of nicotine and cannabis use behaviors among co-users, and the importance of considering associations by both substance and mode of use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Initiating cannabis use at a young age has been linked to problematic and continued cannabis use in adulthood. Given that approximately 1 in 3 adult cannabis smokers report blunt use, it is important to determine if and how age of blunt initiation is associated with current blunt use among adult blunt smokers. METHODS This study uses cross-sectional pooled data from the 2014-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) to examine the association between age of blunt initiation and current blunt use among 62,020 adults who reported lifetime blunt use. RESULTS Among lifetime blunt smokers, 51.4% initiated blunt use at 18 years or older, 42.1% initiated blunt use at 14-17 years old and 6.5% initiated blunt use at 13 years or younger. Multivariable logistic regression models revealed that odds of past 12-month (aOR: 1.58; 95% CI: 1.45 - 1.72), past 30-day (aOR: 2.58; 95% CI: 2.37 - 2.80) and daily (aOR: 3.17; 95% CI: 2.61 - 3.86) blunt use were greater among adults who initiated blunt use at 13 years of age or younger relative to those who initiated blunt use at 18 years of age or older, controlling for covariates. CONCLUSIONS Early onset of blunt use among adolescents is associated with current blunt use in adulthood among lifetime blunt users. Given the adverse health effects associated with blunt use and the prevalence of adult cannabis users who report blunt use, cannabis interventions and policies should be expanded to target blunt use among early initiators.

Abstract
There is a paucity of data on nicotine and cannabis use among young adults (YAs) with asthma. This study aimed to do the following among YAs with asthma: (1) describe YAs' active and passive exposure to nicotine and cannabis; (2) identify latent classes of active use of nicotine and cannabis; and (3) explore predictors of class membership (i.e., demographics, parental and friend use of nicotine and cannabis, and hours of environmental exposure to tobacco smoke, e-cigarette vapor, and marijuana smoke). YAs with asthma (N = 178) self-reported on nicotine and cannabis exposure and the included covariates. Latent class analysis was used to identify latent classes of lifetime nicotine and cannabis use. High rates of nicotine and cannabis use among YAs with asthma were found: 37% reporting a lifetime history of using both nicotine and cannabis. Regarding past year use, 25% had smoked cigarettes, 40% had used e-cigarettes, and 35% had used cannabis. Five classes of lifetime use were identified. The largest class was a non-user class (53%); the other four classes indicate concerning patterns of nicotine and cannabis use. The most consistent predictor of being in a class characterized by more nicotine and cannabis exposure (versus being in the non-user class) was past week exposure to cannabis smoke. This is the first study to identify classes of lifetime nicotine and cannabis use, and examine predictors of class membership, among YAs with asthma. There is a critical need to address environmental and active tobacco and marijuana exposure among YAs with asthma.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Youth and young adults (YYAs) are at high risk of cigar use. This study's objective was to examine progression and sociodemographic differences in current cigar use and frequency among new cigar initiators. AIMS AND METHODS We conducted a two-part latent growth model among a nationally representative cohort of cigar initiators (aged 15-25) to examine 24-month trajectories of current cigar use and frequency (n = 1483). The cohort was recruited via address-based sampling with online data collection from 2014 to 2019 and surveyed approximately every 6 months. RESULTS The unconditional odds of current cigar use (ie, past 30-day use) within 6 months of initiation was 0.72 (95% confidence interval: 0.63, 0.82), corresponding to a probability of 42%. The odds of current use among recent cigar initiates declined 6 months after initiation and was followed by a stabilization in use over time. Among continued users, frequency (# days used in past 30 days) increased linearly over time but remained low (3.47 days/months at 24 months). Younger individuals, non-Hispanic African Americans, those with lower subjective financial status, and current users of cigarettes, other tobacco products and/or marijuana were at highest risk within 6 months of initiation. Males, younger users, and current cigarette smokers had the highest risk for cigar progression over time. CONCLUSIONS This study is the first to examine longitudinal cigar use patterns among YYA cigar initiators. Findings emphasize the need for research across the cigar use spectrum and the importance of interventions targeted by age, stage of use, cigarette, other tobacco, and marijuana use and key sociodemographics to interrupt use pathways. IMPLICATIONS This study is the first to examine progression of cigar use among YYAs who have newly initiated cigars. Results show a high probability of current cigar use within 6 months of initiation followed by a rapid decline and stabilization over time. Frequency increases among those who continue using cigars. Males, younger users, and current cigarette smokers had the highest risk for cigar progression over time. Findings emphasize the need for targeting interventions by age, stage of use, cigarette, other tobacco, and marijuana use and key sociodemographics to interrupt use pathways.
