Abstract
Cold-induced lipolysis is widely studied as a potential therapeutic strategy to combat metabolic disease, but its effect on lipid homeostasis in humans remains largely unclear. Blood plasma comprises an enormous repertoire in lipids allowing insights into whole body lipid homeostasis. So far, reported results originate from studies carried out with small numbers of male participants. Here, the blood plasma's lipidome of 78 male and 93 female volunteers, who were exposed to cold below the shivering threshold for 2 h, was quantified by comprehensive lipidomics using high-resolution mass spectrometry. Short-term cold exposure increased the concentrations in 147 of 177 quantified circulating lipids and the response of the plasma's lipidome was sex-specific. In particular, the amounts of generated glycerophospholipid and sphingolipid species differed between the sexes. In women, the BMI could be related with the lipidome's response. A logistic regression model predicted with high sensitivity and specificity whether plasma samples were from male or female subjects based on the cold-induced response of phosphatidylcholine (PC), lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), and sphingomyelin (SM) species. In summary, cold exposure promotes lipid synthesis by supplying fatty acids generated after lipolysis for all lipid classes. The plasma lipidome, i.e. PC, LPC and SM, shows a sex-specific response, indicating a different regulation of its metabolism in men and women. This supports the need for sex-specific research and avoidance of sex bias in clinical trials.

Abstract
Myocardial bridging is a common coronary anomaly. Although it is considered to be a benign condition, it can rarely be complicated by myocardial infarction. Clinicians should be suspicious of myocardial bridging as an etiology of myocardial infarction when other more common etiologies have been excluded. High resolution CT angiography is the gold standard for diagnostic evaluation, with the length and depth of the bridge, and response to conservative therapies guiding clinical decision making on surgical correction. Myocardial bridging is a congenital coronary anomaly in which the coronary arteries pass through the heart muscle rather than lying on its surface. It is typically a benign condition, and most patients are asymptomatic. However, some may experience symptoms of angina. In rare cases, patients can present with myocardial ischemia or infarction. In this report, we present the case of a 38-year-old female who presented with a 2-month history of chest pain. Further evaluation with coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) revealed myocardial bridging. Subsequently, she developed a myocardial infarction, a rare complication of this condition. We discuss this uncommon complication of a common anomaly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ageing is a significant risk factor for carotid atherosclerosis, affecting over a billion people worldwide. Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) is a surrogate marker for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, with age- and sex-related differences in levels and progression. The onset of clinical manifestations of CVD in women is delayed by about 10 years compared to men. The present study aims to evaluate whether subclinical atherosclerosis is the same disease in men and women or two pathologies with a possible different etiology. For this purpose, we analyzed the differences in cIMT, the impact of patient characteristics, and the influence of age on cIMT in men and women. METHODS A systematic search related to cIMT measured by an ultrasound and gender-specific differences was conducted according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Ninety studies, enrolling 165,551 subjects (76,955 men and 88,553 women), were included in the quantitative synthesis. RESULTS We found that men compared to women had greater common cIMT, (standardized mean difference (SMD) = 0.506, p < 0.03; I2: 98.2, p < 0.0001), greater bifurcation IMT (SMD = 1.056, p = 0.022; I2: 99.9%, p < 0.001), and higher internal cIMT (SMD = 1.124, p = 0.017; I2: 99.9%, p < 0.001). The study did not reveal any association between cardiovascular risk factors and differences in cIMT between men and women. A virtual analysis revealed that age-related cIMT is equal between sexes but postponed by 10 years in women. CONCLUSIONS This study showed that classical risk factors for CVD have a comparable effect on cIMT in men and women. While subclinical atherosclerotic disease, as assessed by cIMT, is essentially identical in the two sexes, it manifests itself by about 10 years later in women.

Abstract
Background The risk for heart failure (HF) is increased among cancer survivors, but predicting individual HF risk is difficult. Polygenic risk scores (PRS) for HF prediction summarize the combined effects of multiple genetic variants specific to the individual. Objectives The aim of this study was to compare clinical HF prediction models with PRS in both cancer and noncancer populations. Methods Cancer and HF diagnoses were identified using International Classification of Diseases-10th Revision codes. HF risk was calculated using the ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) HF score (ARIC-HF). The PRS for HF (PRS-HF) was calculated according to the Global Biobank Meta-analysis Initiative. The predictive performance of the ARIC-HF and PRS-HF was compared using the area under the curve (AUC) in both cancer and noncancer populations. Results After excluding 2,644 participants with HF prior to consent, 440,813 participants without cancer (mean age 57 years, 53% women) and 43,720 cancer survivors (mean age 60 years, 65% women) were identified at baseline. Both the ARIC-HF and PRS-HF were significant predictors of incident HF after adjustment for chronic kidney disease, overall health rating, and total cholesterol. The PRS-HF performed poorly in predicting HF among cancer (AUC: 0.552; 95% CI: 0.539-0.564) and noncancer (AUC: 0.561; 95% CI: 0.556-0.566) populations. However, the ARIC-HF predicted incident HF in the noncancer population (AUC: 0.804; 95% CI: 0.800-0.808) and provided acceptable performance among cancer survivors (AUC: 0.748; 95% CI: 0.737-0.758). Conclusions The prediction of HF on the basis of conventional risk factors using the ARIC-HF score is superior compared to the PRS, in cancer survivors, and especially among the noncancer population.

Abstract
Over the past 15 years, sex-related differences in aortic valve (AV) stenosis (AS) have been highlighted, affecting various aspects of AS, such as the pathophysiology, AV lesions, left ventricle remodelling, and outcomes. Female patients were found to present a more profibrotic pattern of leaflet remodelling and/or thickening, whereas male patients have a preponderance of calcification within stenosed leaflets. The understanding of these sex differences is still limited, owing to the underrepresentation of female patients in many basic and clinical research studies and trials. A better understanding of sex differences in the pathophysiology of AS may highlight new therapeutic targets that potentially could be sex-specific. This review aims to summarize sex-related differences in AS, as discovered from basic research experiments, covering aspects of the disease ranging from leaflet composition to signalling pathways, sex hormones, genetics and/or transcriptomics, and potential sex-adapted medical treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study evaluated the relationship between controlling multiple risk factors and diabetes-related heart failure and all-cause mortality, and the extent to which the excess risk can be reduced. METHODS 17,676 patients with diabetes and 69,493 matched non-diabetic control subjects were included in the Kailuan study, with a median follow-up of 11.19 years. The risk factor control was defined by the attainment of target values for systolic blood pressure, body mass index, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, high-sensitive C-reactive protein and smoking. Fine-Gray and Cox models were used to estimate associations between the degree of risk factor control and risk of heart failure and all-cause mortality respectively. RESULTS Among diabetes patients, there was a gradual reduction in the risk of outcomes as the degree of risk factor control increased. For each additional risk factor that was controlled, there was an associated 16 % decrease in heart failure risk and a 10 % decrease in all-cause mortality risk. Among diabetes patients with ≥5 well-controlled risk factors, the adjusted hazard ratio compared to controls for heart failure and all-cause mortality was 1.25 (95 %CI: 0.99-1.56) and 1.17(95 %CI: 1.05-1.31) respectively. The protective effect of comprehensive risk factor control on the risk of heart failure was more pronounced in men and those using antihypertensive medications. CONCLUSIONS Control for multiple risk factors is associated with reduced heart failure and all-cause mortality risks in a cumulative and sex-specific manner. However, despite optimization of risk factor control, diabetes patients still face increased risks compared to the general population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors associated with cardiovascular risk manifest a clustering pattern. OBJECTIVE Our aim was to identify behavioral clusters by using 5 unhealthy lifestyle behaviors among the Korean population and examine the impacts of identified behavioral clusters on cardiovascular health (CVH). METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The participants were 7898, aged 19 to 64 years. The cluster analysis was performed using the behaviors of current smoking, binge drinking, physical inactivity, insufficient fruit intake, and sugar-sweetened beverage drinking. Cardiovascular health was defined as a composite modified z score calculated using biophysical factors. RESULTS Men manifested 4 clusters (ie, risky binge drinkers, dominant smokers, dominant sugar-sweetened beverage drinkers, and nonsubstance/low-fruit eaters) characterized predominantly by substance use; women had 4 clusters (ie, substance users, physically inactive/low-fruit eaters, physically inactive/fruit eaters, and active adherers) characterized predominantly by physical inactivity. Among men, the clusters of dominant smokers and risky binge drinkers had significantly lower CVH scores than those with poor eating behaviors. Among women, the clusters of substance users and physically inactive/low-fruit eaters had significantly lower CVH scores than the active adherers. All the clusters in men had lower CVH scores than the worst cluster in women. CONCLUSIONS There was a gender difference in the clustering pattern. The clusters with smoking and binge drinking in men and women were associated with negative impacts on CVH. Healthcare professionals should pay attention to the clustering pattern to design an efficient lifestyle intervention for cardiovascular disease prevention.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the potential phases in myopic retinal vascular alterations for further elucidating the mechanisms underlying the progression of high myopia (HM). METHODS For this retrospective study, participants diagnosed with high myopia at Beijing Tongren Hospital were recruited. Based on bionic mechanisms of human vision, an intelligent image processing model was developed and utilized to extract and quantify the morphological characteristics of retinal vasculatures in different regions measured by papilla-diameter (PD), including vascular caliber, arteriole-to-venule ratio (AVR), tortuosity, the angle of the vascular arch (AVA), the distance of the vascular arch (DVA), density, fractal dimension, and venular length. In addition, the optic disc and the area of peripapillary atrophy (PPA) were also quantified. The characteristics of the overall population, as well as patients aged less than 25 years old, were compared by different genders. Univariate and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to investigate the correlation of retinal vasculature parameters with PPA width, and detailed trends of the vascular indicators were analyzed to explore the potential existence of staged morphological changes. FINDINGS The study included 14,066 fundus photographs of 5775 patients (aged 41.2 ± 18.6 years), of whom 7379 (61.2 %) were female. The study included 12,067 fundus photographs of 5320 patients (aged 41.2 ± 18.6 years). Significant variations in the morphological parameters of retinal vessels were observed between males and females. After adjusting for age and sex, multiple linear regression analysis showed that an increased PPA width ratio was associated with lower AVA (1PD), DVA (1PD), vascular caliber (0.5-1.0 PD), tortuosity (0.5-1.0 PD), density and fractal dimension (all P < 0.001, Spearman's ρ < 0). Overall, the changes in retinal vascular morphology showed two phases: tortuosity (0.5-1.0PD) and AVA (1PD) decreased rapidly in the first stage but significantly more slowly in the second stage, while vascular density and fractal dimension showed a completely opposite trend with an initial slow decline followed by a rapid decrease. CONCLUSIONS This study identified two distinct phases of retinal vascular morphological changes during the progression of HM. Traction lesions were predominant in the initial stage, while atrophic lesions were predominant in the later stage. These findings provide further insight into the development mechanism of HM from the perspective of retinal vasculature.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases remain a leading cause of mortality among women, yet they are often underestimated and insufficiently addressed. This narrative review delves into the gender disparities in cardiovascular health, underscoring the critical importance of recognizing and addressing the unique challenges women face. The article explores the pathophysiological differences between men and women, highlighting the role of hormonal factors, such as estrogen and menopause, in conferring cardioprotection or increasing risk. It examines the complexities of diagnosis and assessment, including differences in symptom presentation, diagnostic accuracy, and the challenges of interpreting non-invasive testing in women. The review also highlights the need for tailored risk assessment and prevention strategies, incorporating sex-specific conditions and pregnancy-related factors. It emphasizes the importance of lifestyle modifications and interventions, as well as the potential benefits of personalized treatment approaches, considering gender-specific variations in medication responses and cardiac interventions. Furthermore, the article sheds light on the impact of psychosocial and sociocultural factors, such as gender norms, mental health considerations, and access to healthcare, on women's cardiovascular health. It also addresses the significant gaps and challenges in research, including the historical underrepresentation of women in clinical trials and the lack of sex- and gender-sensitive studies. Finally, the review advocates for a multidisciplinary approach, involving patient-centered care, shared decision-making, and collaboration among policymakers, stakeholders, and healthcare systems. This comprehensive strategy aims to enhance awareness, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease in women, ultimately improving health outcomes and reducing the burden of this often overlooked epidemic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Oral and dental health (ODH) is a significant public health concern globally, affecting billions of people. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the prevalence of dental caries using the DMFT index and investigate its relationship with cardiovascular diseases in the Iranian Kurdish population. METHODS A total of 3,996 individuals aged 35-70 years were included from the Dehgolan prospective cohort study (DehPCS). Clinical examinations were performed to assess decayed (DT), missing (MT) and filled (FT) teeth (DMFT index). Data on demographics, socioeconomic status, medical history, oral hygiene practices were also collected. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) history was self-reported via questionnaires assessing heart disease, heart attack and stroke. Logistic regression was used to assess associations between oral health indicators and self-reported CVD, adjusting for potential confounders. RESULTS The mean DMFT score was 18.18 ± 19, indicating a high oral disease burden. Specifically, 60.04% had DT, 37.82% had more than 16 MT, and 38.83% had FT. Only 13.21% reported flossing regularly and 43.17% brushed less than daily, showing suboptimal oral hygiene. The overall CVD prevalence was 9.21%. Individuals with high DMFT (≥ 14) scores had approximately two times higher CVD prevalence than those with low DMFT. DMFT decreased by 10.23% with increase in education level, and by 5.87% as economic status increased In adjusted analyses, high DMFT scores (OR = 1.5, 95%CI: 1.2-1.9) and MT (OR = 1.5, 95%CI: 1.1-2.1) were associated with 50-150% increased odds of CVD, though associations weakened after adjusting for age. Among men, DMFT remained a significant predictor for CVD after age adjustment, with an odds ratio of 2.37 (95% CI: 1.22-4.60). CONCLUSION This population had substantial oral disease and poor oral hygiene. Higher DMFT scores and MT positively correlated with increased CVD prevalence. Promoting preventive oral care and health education could help reduce dental issues and potentially lower CVD risk. Further research is needed to clarify biological mechanisms linking oral and systemic health.

Abstract
Background Depression is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), but the potential sex differences in this association remain unclear. Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the association between depression and subsequent CVD events, and to explore potential sex differences. Methods The authors conducted a retrospective analysis using the JMDC Claims Database between 2005 and 2022. The study population included 4,125,720 individuals aged 18 to 75 years without a history of cardiovascular disease or renal failure and missing data at baseline. Participants were followed up for a mean of 1,288 days to assess the association between depression and subsequent CVD events, such as myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, stroke, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. Results Our analysis revealed a significant association between depression and subsequent composite CVD events in both men and women, with a stronger association observed in women. The HR for the composite endpoint was 1.64 (95% CI: 1.59-1.70) in women and 1.39 (95% CI: 1.35-1.42) in men after multivariable adjustment (P for interaction <0.001). Furthermore, the individual components of the composite endpoint were also associated with depression in both men and women, each of which was also observed to be more strongly associated in women. Conclusions Our study provides evidence of a significant association between depression and subsequent CVD events in both men and women, with a more pronounced association observed in women. These findings highlight the importance of addressing depression and tailoring prevention and management strategies according to sex-specific factors.

Abstract
Background: Women have twice the lifetime prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) relative to men, and PTSD is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Two sex hormones - estradiol and progesterone - have been found to impact both PTSD and CVD symptomatology, but the way in which sex hormones influence cardiovascular physiology among individuals with PTSD is not well understood.Objective: This study sought to clarify the association between sex hormones, PTSD, and CVD among trauma-exposed women.Method: Sixty-six trauma-exposed women (M age = 31.45, SD = 8.92) completed a clinical interview for PTSD and self-reported CVD symptoms; estradiol and progesterone were assayed from blood samples. The association between each sex hormone and CVD symptoms was analyzed, controlling for age, systolic blood pressure (BP), and diastolic BP.Results: Neither estradiol nor the PTSD-by-estradiol interaction was significantly associated with CVD symptoms. Higher progesterone and, relatedly, progesterone-to-estradiol ratio (PE ratio) were each significantly associated with greater CVD symptom severity, but only for individuals with lower relative PTSD severity.Conclusions: The findings indicate that PTSD moderates the relationship between progesterone and CVD symptoms, and further research is warranted to reconcile findings in existing literature regarding the direction of and mechanisms behind this relationship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are few data on sex differences in the association between schizophrenia and the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We sought to clarify the relationship of schizophrenia with the risk of developing CVDs and to explore the potential modification effect of sex differences. METHODS AND RESULTS We conducted a retrospective analysis using the JMDC Claims Database between 2005 and 2022. The study population included 4 124 508 individuals aged 18 to 75 years without a history of CVD or renal replacement therapy. The primary end point is defined as a composite end point that includes myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and pulmonary thromboembolism. During a mean follow-up of 1288±1001 days, we observed 182 158 composite end points. We found a significant relationship of schizophrenia with a greater risk of developing composite CVD events in both men and women, with a stronger association observed in women. The hazard ratio for the composite end point was 1.63 (95% CI, 1.52-1.74) in women and 1.42 (95% CI, 1.33-1.52) in men after multivariable adjustment (P for interaction=0.0049). This sex-specific difference in the association between schizophrenia and incident CVD was consistent for angina pectoris, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. CONCLUSIONS Our analysis using a large-scale epidemiologic cohort demonstrated that the association between schizophrenia and subsequent CVD events was more pronounced in women than in men, suggesting the clinical importance of addressing schizophrenia and tailoring the CVD prevention strategy based on sex-specific factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether joint risk factor control could reduce the excess risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 75,293 patients with diagnosed hypertension from the UK Biobank study were included, matched with 256,619 nonhypertensive controls, and followed up until May 31, 2021. Seven risk factors were measured to define joint risk factor control, including blood pressure, body mass index, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, hemoglobin A1c, albuminuria, smoking, and physical activity. RESULTS Among hypertensive patients, 14% to 24% lower risks of CVD outcomes were associated with each additional risk factor control. In the Cox proportional hazards models, adjusted hazard ratios for patients with 6 or more risk factor controls compared with patients having 2 or less risk factor controls were 0.49 (95% CI, 0.45 to 0.55) for CVD, 0.51 (95% CI, 0.45 to 0.57) for coronary heart disease, 0.48 (95% CI, 0.38 to 0.60) for stroke, and 0.34 (95% CI, 0.26 to 0.44) for CVD mortality. The excess risks of CVD outcomes in patients with hypertension were diminished to nonsignificant or even lower compared with controls if achieving 6 or more risk factor controls. Men experienced stronger protective associations of joint risk factor control on risks of CVD than women (P<.001 for interaction). CONCLUSION The joint risk factor control is associated with lower risks of CVD, and a high degree of risk factor control may considerably attenuate the excess risk of CVD among patients with hypertension.

Abstract
Cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) are complex disorders with a heterogenous phenotype, which are caused by multiple factors including genetic factors. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs45539933 (p.Ala64Thr), rs10011540 (c.-112A>C), rs3811791 (c.-1766A>G), and rs1800592 (c.-3826A>G) in the UCP1 gene have been analyzed for association with CMDs in many studies providing controversial results. However, previous studies only considered individual UCP1 SNPs and did not evaluate them in an integrated manner, which is a more powerful approach to uncover genetic component of complex diseases. This study aimed to investigate associations between UCP1 genotype combinations and CMDs or CMD risk factors in the context of non-genetic factors. We performed multiple logistic regression analysis and proposed new methodology of testing different combinations of SNP genotypes. We found that probability of CMDs increased in presence of the three-SNP combination of genotypes with minor alleles of c.-3826A>G and p.Ala64Thr and wild allele of c.-112A>C, with increasing age, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (BF%) and may differ between sexes and between countries. The combination of genotypes with c.-3826A>G minor allele and wild homozygotes of c.-112A>C and p.Ala64Thr was associated with increased probability of diabetes. While combination of genotypes with minor alleles of all three SNPs reduced the CMD probability. The present results suggest that age, BMI, sex, and UCP1 three-SNP combinations of genotypes significantly contribute to CMD probability. Varying of c.-112A>C alleles in the genotype combination with minor alleles of c.-3826A>G and p.Ala64Thr markedly changes CMD probability.

Abstract
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of childhood blindness in preterm infants. The incidence of ROP varies widely across countries, with rates as high as 30% in some regions. This study investigated the incidence, risk factors, treatment, and mortality of ROP patients in Germany. Data were extracted from the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) diagnosis-related group (DRG) and Institute for the Remuneration System in Hospitals (InEK) databases. Patients with a secondary diagnosis of ROP (ICD-10 code H35.1) in the first 28 days of life were included. Data were extracted for patients admitted between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. The diagnoses and procedures were determined using the German version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-GM) and the German procedure coding system (OPS). The codes 5-154.xx, 5-155.xx, 8-020.xx, 5-156.9, 6-003.(c&d), 6-007.(2&8) were utilised to denote different ocular treatments. Patient Clinical Complexity Levels were extracted and used to compare ROP with non-ROP patients. A total of 1326 patients with ROP were identified. The incidence of ROP is estimated to be 17.04 per 10,000 live births. The incidence was highest in infants with birth weights less than 500 g and decreased with increasing birth weight. The most common risk factors for ROP were low birth weight, male sex, and prematurity. Of the infants with ROP, 7.2% required ocular treatment. The most common treatment was intraocular injections, followed by photocoagulation. No surgical treatment was required for any of the infants during the study period. The mortality rate for infants with ROP was 60.33 per 10,000. This is higher than the overall neonatal death rate of 24.2 per 10,000. CONCLUSIONS This study found that the incidence of ROP in Germany is similar to that in other developed countries. The study also found that the mortality rate for infants with ROP is higher than the overall neonatal death rate. These findings highlight the importance of early detection and treatment of ROP in preterm infants. WHAT IS KNOWN • ROP is a severe eye condition often affecting preterm infants. • Previous data are limited in scope and generalizability. WHAT IS NEW • Based on a national database, our study found ROP incidence to be 17.04 per 10,000 new births, higher in males (17.71) than in females (16.34). • 7.2% of ROP cases required ocular treatment, inversely correlated with birth weight. • High rates of multimorbidity such as neonatal jaundice (84.69%), respiratory distress syndrome (80.84%), and apnea (78.88%) were observed.

Abstract
AIM For patients who present to the emergency departments (ED) with undifferentiated chest pain, the risk of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) may be underestimated in low-HEART score patients. We aimed to identify characteristics of patients who were classified as low risk by HEART score but subsequently developed MACE at 6 weeks. METHODS We studied a multiethnic cohort of patients who presented with chest pain arousing suspicion of acute coronary syndrome to EDs in the Netherlands and Singapore. Patients were risk-stratified using HEART score and followed up for MACE at 6 weeks. Risk factors of developing MACE despite low HEART scores (scores 0-3) were identified using logistic and Cox regression models. RESULTS Among 1376 (39.8%) patients with low HEART scores, 63 (4.6%) developed MACE at 6 weeks. More males (53/806, 6.6%) than females (10/570, 2.8%) with low HEART score developed MACE. There was no difference in outcomes between ethnic groups. Among low-HEART score patients with 2 points for history, 21% developed MACE. Among low-HEART score patients with 1 point for troponin, 50% developed MACE, while 100% of those with 2 points for troponin developed MACE. After adjusting for HEART score and potential confounders, male sex was independently associated with increased odds (OR 4.12, 95%CI 2.14-8.78) and hazards (HR 3.93, 95%CI 1.98-7.79) of developing MACE despite low HEART score. CONCLUSION Male sex, highly suspicious history and elevated troponin were disproportionately associated with MACE. These characteristics should prompt clinicians to consider further investigation before discharge.

Abstract
Stroke during pregnancy and preeclampsia are two distinct but interrelated medical conditions, sharing a common denominator-blood control failure. Along with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypercoagulability, hypertension is undoubtedly a major risk factor associated with stroke. Even though men have higher age-specific stroke rates, women are facing higher life-long stroke risk, primarily due to longer life expectancy. Sex hormones, especially estrogen and testosterone, seem to play a key link in the chain of blood pressure control differences between the genders. Women affected with stroke are more susceptible to experience some atypical stroke manifestations, which might eventually lead to delayed diagnosis establishment, and result in higher morbidity and mortality rates in the population of women. Preeclampsia is a part of hypertensive disorder of pregnancy spectrum, and it is common knowledge that women with a positive history of preeclampsia are at increased stroke risk during their lifetime. Preeclampsia and stroke display similar pathophysiological patterns, including hypertension, endothelial dysfunction, dyslipidemia, hypercoagulability, and cerebral vasomotor reactivity abnormalities. High-risk pregnancies carrying the burden of hypertensive disorder of pregnancy have up to a six-fold higher chance of suffering from stroke. Resemblance shared between placental and cerebral vascular changes, adaptations, and sophisticated auto-regulatory mechanisms are not merely coincidental, but they reflect distinctive and complex cardiovascular performances occurring in the maternal circulatory system during pregnancy. Placental and cerebral malperfusion appears to be in the midline of both of these conditions; placental malperfusion eventually leads to preeclampsia, and cerebral to stoke. Suboptimal performances of the cardiovascular system are proposed as a primary cause of uteroplacental malperfusion. Placental dysfunction is therefore designated as a secondary condition, initiated by the primary disturbances of the cardiovascular system, rather than an immunological disorder associated with abnormal trophoblast invasion. In most cases, with properly and timely applied measures of prevention, stroke is predictable, and preeclampsia is a controllable condition. Understanding the differences between preeclampsia and stroke in pregnancy is vital for healthcare providers to enhance their clinical decision-making strategies, improve patient care, and promote positive maternal and pregnancy outcomes. Management approaches for preeclampsia and stroke require a multidisciplinary approach involving obstetricians, neurologists, and other healthcare professionals.

Abstract
Menopause represents a critical life stage in women, characterized by hormonal changes that significantly impact cardiovascular health. While the decline in estrogen levels has long been recognized as a major contributor to cardiovascular aging in menopausal women, the role of androgens, particularly testosterone, has gained increasing attention in recent years. This comprehensive review aims to provide a thorough understanding of the impact of menopause on cardiovascular aging, with a specific focus on the influences of androgens. A literature search was conducted to gather relevant studies and clinical evidence exploring the relationship between menopause, androgens, and cardiovascular health. The review integrates findings from various studies to present a holistic view of the topic. The review outlines the changes in hormone levels during menopause and discusses the cardiovascular risk factors associated with this transition. Furthermore, it explores the impact of menopause on cardiovascular structure and function, elucidating the underlying mechanisms that contribute to cardiovascular aging. Androgens' significance in maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis is discussed, followed by exploring the effects of androgen decline during menopause on lipid profiles, insulin sensitivity, vascular function, and other cardiovascular parameters. The review delves into the mechanisms of androgen action on the cardiovascular system, emphasizing the role of androgen receptors and the intricate interplay between androgens, estrogens, and other hormones. Clinical evidence supporting the effects of androgens on cardiovascular aging is presented, including studies investigating the association between androgen levels and cardiovascular outcomes. Additionally, the impact of androgen replacement therapy (ART) on cardiovascular risk markers and events in menopausal women is examined, along with controversies and conflicting findings surrounding the use of androgen therapy in cardiovascular aging. This structured review provides a comprehensive understanding of the impact of menopause on cardiovascular aging, with a specific focus on the role of androgens. By highlighting the significance of androgens in cardiovascular health during menopause, this review aims to create an initial impression and interest among readers, inviting potential citations in the future. Abstract
Background Endocrine, metabolic, blood and immune disorders (EMBID) is a vital public health problem globally, but the study on its burden and global trends was scarce. We aimed to evaluate the global burden of disease and trends in EMBID from 1990 to 2019. Methods We extracted the data of EMBID-related on death cases, Age-standardized death rates (ASDRs), disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), Age-standardized DALY rates, years of life lost (YLLs), Age-standardized YLL rates, years lived with disability (YLDs) and Age-standardized YLD rates between 1990 and 2019 from the Global Burden of Disease 2019, by sex, age, and year at the global and geographical region levels. The Annual rate of change was directly extracted from Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) and we also calculated the age-related age-standardized rate (ASR) to quantify trends in EMBID-related deaths, DALYs, YLLs and YLDs. Result Globally, the EMBID-related ASDRs showed an increasing trend, whereas the DALYs ASR, YLLs ASR and YLDs ASR were decreased between 1990 to 2019. Furthermore, High-income North America and Southern Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest both ASDRs and DALYs ASR, and Southern Sub-Saharan Africa and Caribbean had the highest both YLDs ASR and YLLs ASR in 2019. Males had a higher EMBID-related ASDRs than females, but the DALYs ASR in females were higher than males. The burden of EMBID was higher in older-aged compared to other age groups, especially in developed regions. Conclusion Although EMBID-related ASRs for DALYs-, YLLs- and YLDs declined at the global level from 1990 to 2019, but the ASDRs was increasing. This implied high healthcare costs and more burden of ASDRs due to EMBID in the future. Therefore, there was an urgent need to adopt geographic targets, age-specific targets, prevention strategies and treatments for EMBID to reduce negative health outcomes globally.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Heart failure (HF) is a major complication in patients with hypertension. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to investigate the extent to which joint risk factor control could attenuate hypertension-related excess risk of HF. METHODS The study included a total of 75,293 participants with diagnosed hypertension from the UK Biobank and matched with 256,619 nonhypertensive control subjects, followed up until May 31, 2021. The degree of joint risk factor control was assessed on the basis of the major cardiovascular risk factors, including blood pressure, body mass index, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, hemoglobin A1c, albuminuria, smoking, and physical activity. The Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate associations between the degree of risk factor control and risk of HF. RESULTS Among hypertensive patients, joint risk factor control showed an association with a stepwise reduction of incident HF risk. Each additional risk factor control was related to a 20% lower risk, and the optimal risk factor control (controlling ≥6 risk factors) was associated with a 62% lower risk (HR: 0.38; 95% CI: 0.31-0.45). In addition, the study found that the hypertension-related excess risk of HF among participants jointly controlling ≥6 risk factors were even lower than in nonhypertensive control subjects (HR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.67-0.94). The protective associations of joint risk factor control and risk of incident HF were broadly stronger among men than women and among medication users than nonusers (P for interaction < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The joint risk factor control is associated with a lower risk of incident HF in an accumulative and sex-specific manner. Optimal risk factor control may eliminate hypertension-related excess risk of HF.

Abstract
RATIONALE & OBJECTIVE Early mortality rates of female patients receiving dialysis have been, at times, observed to be higher than rates among male patients. The differences in cause-specific mortality between male and female incident dialysis patients with kidney failure are not well understood and were the focus of this study. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING & PARTICIPANTS Incident patients who had initiated dialysis in Australia and New Zealand in 1998-2018. EXPOSURE Sex. OUTCOMES Cause-specific and all-cause mortality while receiving dialysis, censored for kidney transplant. ANALYTICAL APPROACH Adjusted cause-specific proportional hazards models, focusing on the first 5 years following initiation of dialysis. RESULTS Among 53,414 patients (20,876 [39%] female) followed for a median period of 2.8 (IQR, 1.3-5.2) years, 27,137 (51%) died, with the predominant cause of death attributed to cardiovascular disease (18%), followed by dialysis withdrawal (16%). Compared with male patients, female patients were more likely to die in the first 5 years after dialysis initiation (adjusted hazard ratio [AHR], 1.08 [95% CI, 1.05-1.11]). Even though female patients experienced a lower risk of cardiovascular disease-related mortality (AHR, 0.93 [95% CI, 0.89-0.98]) than male patients, they experienced a greater risk of infection-related (AHR, 1.20 [95% CI, 1.10-1.32]) and dialysis withdrawal-related (AHR, 1.19 [95% CI, 1.13-1.26]) mortality. LIMITATIONS Possibility of residual and unmeasured confounders. CONCLUSIONS Compared with male patients, female patients had a higher risk of all-cause mortality in the first 5 years after dialysis initiation, a difference driven by higher rates of mortality from infections and dialysis withdrawals. These findings may inform the study of sex differences in mortality in other geographic settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Injury deaths constitute a major avoidable cause of death affecting life expectancy to a different degree in men and women. This study quantified the contributions of injury deaths to the gender gap in life expectancy (GGLE) and life disparity (GGLD) in nine Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) countries. METHODS We retrieved annual data on age-sex specific causes of death from the World Health Organization mortality database for EMR countries with at least 2-year consecutive data during 2010-2019. The injury-related deaths were categorized into five groups: transport accidents, other accidental injuries, intentional self-harm, assault and events of undetermined intent. Considering women as the reference, the GGLE and GGLD were decomposed by age and causes of death, using a continuous-change model. RESULTS The largest and smallest GGLE were observed in Kuwait (5.2 years) and Qatar (- 1.2 years), respectively. Qatar (- 2.2 years) and Oman (0.2 years) had the highest and lowest GGLD. The highest contributions of injury deaths to the GGLE/GGLD were seen in Libya (1.8/- 1.2 years), followed by Iran (1.2/- 0.8 years). Among injury causes, transport accidents were the leading cause of GGLE in all countries but Libya and Morocco, with Iran having the greatest contributions (0.6 years). Injury deaths in men aged 15-29 years accounted for 33% [41%] (Kuwait) to 55% [65%] (Oman) of total GGLE [GGLD] attributable to injury deaths. CONCLUSIONS High injury deaths, particularly transport accidents, among young men contributed substantially to the GGLE and GGLD across nine EMR countries in this study. This highlights the need for implementing preventing policies to reduce the burden of injury deaths specifically in young men.

Abstract
Previous prospective studies have reported inconsistent findings on the association between coffee consumption and the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). This study aimed to investigate their association using a meta-analysis of prospective studies. We searched PubMed and EMBASE for prospective cohort studies of the association between coffee consumption and the risk of CHD in the general population. We conducted a random-effects meta-analysis and also subgroup meta-analyses by various factors. Of 870 studies searched from databases, 32 prospective cohort studies were included in the final analysis. In the main meta-analysis of all studies, no significant association between coffee consumption and the risk of CHD was observed (relative risk [RR] 1.05, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.97 to 1.14, I2 = 64.9%). In the subgroup meta-analyses by gender, coffee consumption significantly increased the risk of CHD in men (RR 1.19, 95% CI 1.05 to 1.35, n = 17), whereas a nonsignificantly decreased risk of CHD was observed in women (RR 0.91, 95% CI 0.77 to 1.08, n = 11). Also, in the subgroup meta-analyses by follow-up period, coffee consumption significantly increased the risk of CHD in the follow-up of 20 years or longer (RR 1.16, 95% CI 1.06 to 1.27, n = 4) regardless of gender. In conclusion, in the current meta-analysis of prospective studies, we found that, overall, no significant association between coffee consumption and the risk of CHD was observed. However, coffee consumption showed a differential effect by gender, with an increased risk of CHD in men and a potentially decreased risk in women.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are predominantly an aging disease. Important sex-specific differences exist and the mechanism(s) by which this sex-by-age interaction influences CVD development and progression remains elusive. Accordingly, it is still unknown whether cell senescence, a main feature of cardiac male aging, is a significant feature also of the female aged mouse heart and whether senolytics, senescence-clearing compounds, promote myocardial repair and regeneration after myocardial infarction (MI) in aged female mice. To this aim, the combination of two senolytics, dasatinib and quercetin (D+Q) or just their vehicle was administered to 22-24 months old C57BL/6 female mice after MI. D+Q improved global left ventricle function and myocardial performance after MI whereby female cardiac aging is characterized by accumulation of cardiac senescent cells that are further increased by MI. Despite their terminal differentiation nature, also cardiomyocytes acquire a senescent phenotype with age in females. D+Q removed senescent cardiac non-myocyte and myocyte cells ameliorating cardiac remodeling and regeneration. Senolytics removed aged dysfunctional cardiac stem/progenitor cells (CSCs), relieving healthy CSCs with normal proliferative and cardiomyogenic differentiation potential. In conclusions, cardiac senescent cells accumulate in the aged female hearts. Removing senescent cells is a key therapeutic target for efficient repair of the aged female heart.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are leading causes of mortality and morbidity in adults worldwide. Multiple studies suggest that there are clinically relevant sex differences in cardiovascular disease. Women and men differ substantially in terms of prevalence, presentation, management, and outcomes of cardiovascular disease. To date, however, little is known about why cardiovascular disease affects women and men differently. Because many studies do not differentiate the concept of sex and gender, it is sometimes difficult to discriminate sociocultural vs biological contributors that drive observed clinical differences. Female sex has some biological advantages in relation to cardiovascular disease, but many of these advantages seem to disappear as soon as women develop cardiovascular risk factors (eg, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia). Furthermore, stress and allostatic load could play an important role in the relationship between sex/gender and cardiovascular diseases. In this narrative review, we argue that chronic stress and psychosocial factors might better encompass the patterns of allostatic load increases seen in women, while biological risk factors and unhealthy behaviours might be more important mechanisms that drive increased allostatic load in men. Indeed, men show allostatic load patterns that are more associated with impaired anthropometric, metabolic, and cardiovascular functioning and women have greater dysregulation in neuroendocrine and immune functioning. Thus gender-related factors might contribute to the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease especially through stress mechanisms. It is important to continue to study the mechanisms by which gender influences chronic stress, because chronic stress could influence modifiable gendered factors to promote cardiovascular disease prevention.

Abstract
BackgroundDeath due to cardiovascular diseases (CVD) increased significantly in China. One possible way to reduce CVD is to identify people at risk and provide targeted intervention. We aim to develop and validate a CVD risk prediction model for Chinese males (CVDMCM) to help clinicians identify those males at risk of CVD and provide targeted intervention.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective cohort study of 2,331 Chinese males without CVD at baseline to develop and internally validate the CVDMCM. These participants had a baseline physical examination record (2008–2016) and at least one revisit record by September 2019. With the full cohort, we conducted three models: A model with Framingham CVD risk model predictors; a model with predictors selected by univariate cox proportional hazard model adjusted for age; and a model with predictors selected by LASSO algorithm. Among them, the optimal model, CVDMCM, was obtained based on the Akaike information criterion, the Brier's score, and Harrell's C statistic. Then, CVDMCM, the Framingham CVD risk model, and the Wu's simplified model were all validated and compared. All the validation was carried out by bootstrap resampling strategy (TRIPOD statement type 1b) with the full cohort with 1,000 repetitions.ResultsCVDMCM's Harrell's C statistic was 0.769 (95% CI: 0.738–0.799), and D statistic was 4.738 (95% CI: 3.270–6.864). The results of Harrell's C statistic, D statistic and calibration plot demonstrated that CVDMCM outperformed the Framingham CVD model and Wu's simplified model for 4-year CVD risk prediction.ConclusionsWe developed and internally validated CVDMCM, which predicted 4-year CVD risk for Chinese males with a better performance than Framingham CVD model and Wu's simplified model. In addition, we developed a web calculator–calCVDrisk for physicians to conveniently generate CVD risk scores and identify those males with a higher risk of CVD.

Some cardiovascular and respiratory diseases are triggered by changes in ambient temperature or extremes of temperature. This study aimed to clarify the changes in mortality associated with temperature-sensitive diseases in Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic. We used data from three major cities (Sapporo City, Tokyo 23 wards, and Osaka City) from 2010 to 2019 to determine disease mortality rates and monthly mean temperatures from April to December. If the pandemic had not occurred in 2020, the results showed that temperature-sensitive disease death counts would have increased from 324 to 980, based on a 95% confidence interval estimated from the past 10 years in Sapporo (19-56% increase in actual deaths from 2020), from 651 to 2,653 in Tokyo (10-39% increase), and from 235 to 1,343 in Osaka (8-48% increase). Analyses of meshed population data during the COVID-19 pandemic indicated that inhibiting people's behaviour and outdoor mobility, especially in older men, caused a decrease in mortality.

Abstract
Epidemiological studies have reported that the Mexican population is highly susceptible to dyslipidemia. The MARC1, ADCY5, and BCO1 genes have recently been involved in lipidic abnormalities. This study aimed to analyze the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs2642438, rs56371916, and rs6564851 on MARC1, ADCY5, and BCO1 genes, respectively, with the lipid profile in a cohort of Mexican adults. We included 1900 Mexican adults from the Health Workers Cohort Study. Demographic and clinical data were collected through a structured questionnaire and standardized procedures. Genotyping was performed using a predesigned TaqMan assay. A genetic risk score (GRS) was created on the basis of the three genetic variants. Associations analysis was estimated using linear and logistic regression. Our results showed that rs2642438-A and rs6564851-A alleles had a risk association for hypertriglyceridemia (OR = 1.57, p = 0.013; and OR = 1.33, p = 0.031, respectively), and rs56371916-C allele a trend for low HDL-c (OR = 1.27, p = 0.060) only in men. The GRS revealed a significant association for hypertriglyceridemia (OR = 2.23, p = 0.022). These findings provide evidence of an aggregate effect of the MARC1, ADCY5, and BCO1 variants on the risk of hypertriglyceridemia in Mexican men. This knowledge could represent a tool for identifying at-risk males who might benefit from early interventions and avoid secondary metabolic traits.

Abstract
The purpose of this systematic review was to synthesize the results from current literature examining the effects of prior exercise on the postprandial triglyceride (TG) response to evaluate current literature and provide future direction. A quantitative review was performed using meta-analytic methods to quantify individual effect sizes. A moderator analysis was performed to investigate potential variables that could influence the effect of prior exercise on postprandial TG response. Two hundred and seventy-nine effects were retrieved from 165 studies for the total TG response and 142 effects from 87 studies for the incremental area under the curve TG response. There was a moderate effect of exercise on the total TG response (Cohen's d = -0.47; p < .0001). Moderator analysis revealed exercise energy expenditure significantly moderated the effect of prior exercise on the total TG response (p < .0001). Exercise modality (e.g., cardiovascular, resistance, combination of both cardiovascular and resistance, or standing), cardiovascular exercise type (e.g., continuous, interval, concurrent, or combined), and timing of exercise prior to meal administration significantly affected the total TG response (p < .001). Additionally, exercise had a moderate effect on the incremental area under the curve TG response (Cohen's d = -0.40; p < .0001). The current analysis reveals a more homogeneous data set than previously reported. The attenuation of postprandial TG appears largely dependent on exercise energy expenditure (∼2 MJ) and the timing of exercise. The effect of prior exercise on the postprandial TG response appears to be transient; therefore, exercise should be frequent to elicit an adaptation.

Abstract
Atranorin (ATR) is a secondary metabolite of lichens. While previous studies investigated the effects of this substance predominantly in an in vitro environment, in our study we investigated the basic physicochemical properties, the binding affinity to human serum albumin (HSA), basic pharmacokinetics, and, mainly, on the systematic effects of ATR in vivo. Sporadic studies describe its effects during, predominantly, cancer. This project is original in terms of testing the efficacy of ATR on a healthy organism, where we can possibly attribute negative effects directly to ATR and not to the disease. For the experiment, 24 Sprague Dawley rats (Velaz, Únetice, Czech Republic) were used. The animals were divided into four groups. The first group (n = 6) included healthy males as control intact rats (♂INT) and the second group (n = 6) included healthy females as control intact rats (♀INT). Groups three and four (♂ATR/n = 6 and ♀ATR/n = 6) consisted of animals with daily administered ATR (10mg/kg body weight) in an ethanol-water solution per os for a one-month period. Our results demonstrate that ATR binds to HSA near the binding site TRP214 and acts on a systemic level. ATR caused mild anemia during the treatment. However, based on the levels of hepatic enzymes in the blood (ALT, ALP, or bilirubin levels), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), or liver histology, no impact on liver was recorded. Significantly increased creatinine and lactate dehydrogenase levels together with increased defecation activity during behavioral testing may indicate the anabolic effect of ATR in skeletal muscles. Interestingly, ATR changed some forms of behavior. ATR at a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight is non-toxic and, therefore, could be used in further research.

Abstract
Background Blood lipids are strong risk factors for the progression of atherosclerotic plaques. However, data on gender-specific associations are limited. Objectives To examine gender-specific associations of coronary plaque with blood lipids among a large sample of Saudi patients without CAD. Methods Retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted among adult patients referred to (64 multidetector spiral) computed tomography (CT) for standard indications at the Prince Sultan Cardiac Centre (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) between July 2007 and December 2017. Those with pre-existing CAD were excluded. Plaques were determined based on quantification of coronary calcium and Coronary CT angiography. Results A total 2421 patients (1498 males and 923 females) were included. The prevalence of any plaque was 36.6% with higher burden in males than females (41.3% versus 28.9%, p < 0.001). Approximately 78.9% of all plaques were calcified. Blood lipids (mmol/L) were 4.75 ± 1.14 for total cholesterol, 2.90 ± 0.96 for LDL cholesterol, 1.20 ± 0.36 for HDL cholesterol, and 1.64 ± 1.09 for triglycerides. Males had significantly higher triglycerides and lower HDL cholesterol compared with females. In adjusted models in males and all patients, soft and/or calcified plaques were significantly associated with lower HDL cholesterol and higher triglycerides. In females, the only significant association was between soft plaques and higher triglycerides. Conclusions Middle-aged patients without clinical CAD in Saudi Arabia have a high burden of plaques, specially calcified ones. The findings may impact the use of lipid lowering mediations, by underscoring the importance of assessing the risk of CAD in patients without clinical CAD even in case of lack of coronary calcification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both incidence and mortality of diagnosed diabetes have decreased over the past decade. However, the impact of these changes on key metrics of diabetes burden-lifetime risk (LR), years of potential life lost (YPLL), and years spent with diabetes-is unknown. METHODS We used data from 653,811 adults aged ≥18 years from the National Health Interview Survey, a cross-sectional sample of the civilian non-institutionalized population in the United States. LR, YPLL, and years spent with diabetes were estimated from age 18 to 84 by survey period (1997-1999, 2000-2004, 2005-2009, 2010-2014, 2015-2018). The age-specific incidence of diagnosed diabetes and mortality were estimated using Poisson regression. A multistate difference equation accounting for competing risks was used to model each metric. RESULTS LR and years spent with diabetes initially increased then decreased over the most recent time periods. LR for adults at age 20 increased from 31.7% (95% CI: 31.2-32.1%) in 1997-1999 to 40.7% (40.2-41.1%) in 2005-2009, then decreased to 32.8% (32.4-33.2%) in 2015-2018. Both LR and years spent with diabetes were markedly higher among adults of non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and other races compared to non-Hispanic Whites. YPLL significantly decreased over the study period, with the estimated YPLL due to diabetes for an adult aged 20 decreasing from 8.9 (8.7-9.1) in 1997-1999 to 6.2 (6.1-6.4) in 2015-2018 (p = 0.02). CONCLUSION In the United States, diabetes burden is declining, but disparities by race/ethnicity remain. LR remains high with approximately one-third of adults estimated to develop diabetes during their lifetime.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study evaluated handgrip strength (HGS), circulating homocysteine levels and related factors in postmenopausal women. METHODS This study is a sub-analysis of a prospective cohort of 303 postmenopausal women aged 62.7 ± 6.9 years who had HGS measures with a digital dynamometer as the primary outcome, and plasma homocysteine and creatinine levels and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measures as the secondary outcomes. RESULTS The average HGS was 22.5 ± 4.0 kg, 29.4% of women had dynapenia (HGS < 20 kg), adiposity was 40.3 ± 5.4% and 9.57% of women had hyperhomocysteinemia (homocysteine >15 μmol/l). There were no differences between tertiles of homocysteine and HGS (p = 0.641). Plasma homocysteine levels were unrelated to HGS (r = -0.06) and correlated with age (r = 0.17), GFR (r = -0.28) and creatinine (r = 0.23). Hyperhomocysteinemia was not associated with HGS (odds ratio [OR] = 0.98 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.89; 1.08]) or dynapenia (OR = 1.10 [95% CI: 0.45; 2.47]). The risk of presenting low HGS were not significantly associated with homocysteine (OR = -0.08 [95% CI: -0.21; 0.06]) and were associated with age (OR = -0.23 [95% CI: -0.29; -0.17]), adiposity (OR = -6.52 [95% CI: -9.53; -3.50]) and creatinine (OR = 6.22 [95% CI: 2.48; 9.97]). CONCLUSIONS HGS and dynapenia were unrelated to hyperhomocysteinemia. Age, GFR and creatinine were significantly associated with plasma homocysteine levels.

Abstract
Perturbed in utero hormone milieu leads to intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), a known risk factor for left ventricular (LV) dysfunction later in life. Gestational testosterone (T) excess predisposes offspring to IUGR and leads to LV myocardial disarray and hypertension in adult females. However, the early impact of T excess on LV programming and if it is female specific is unknown. LV tissues were obtained at day 90 gestation from days 30-90 T-treated or control fetuses (n = 6/group/sex) and morphometric and molecular analyses were conducted. Gestational T treatment increased cardiomyocyte number only in female fetuses. T excess upregulated receptor expression of insulin and insulin-like growth factor. Furthermore, in a sex-specific manner, T increased expression of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) while downregulating phosphorylated mammalian target of rapamycin (pmTOR)-to-mTOR ratio suggestive of compensatory response. T excess 1) upregulated atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), markers of stress and cardiac hypertrophy and 2) upregulated estrogen receptors1 (ESR1) and 2 (ESR2), but not in androgen receptor (AR). Thus, gestational T excess upregulated markers of cardiac stress and hypertrophy in both sexes while inducing cardiomyocyte hyperplasia only in females, likely mediated via insulin and estrogenic programming.NEW & NOTEWORTHY The present study demonstrates sex-specific effects of gestational T excess between days 30 and 90 of gestation on the cardiac phenotype. Furthermore, the sex-specific programming is likely secondary to perturbation in both estrogen and insulin signaling pathways collectively. These findings are supportive of the role of androgen excess to serve as early biomarkers of CVD and could be critical in identifying therapeutic targets for LV hypertrophy and predict long-term CVD.

Abstract
Raised blood pressure (BP) is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, and its particular strong association with stroke is well established. Although systolic BP increases with age in both sexes, raised BP is more prevalent in males in early adulthood, overtaken by females at middle age, consistently across all ethnicities/races. However, there are clear regional differences on when females overtake males. Higher BP among males is observed until the seventh decade of life in high-income countries, compared with almost 3 decades earlier in low- and middle-income countries. Females and males tend to have different cardiovascular disease risk profiles, and many lifestyles also influence BP and cardiovascular disease in a sex-specific manner. Although no hypertension guidelines distinguish between sexes in BP thresholds to define or treat hypertension, observational evidence suggests that in terms of stroke risk, females would benefit from lower BP thresholds to the magnitude of 10 to 20 mm Hg. More randomized evidence is needed to determine if females have greater cardiovascular benefits from lowering BP and whether optimal BP is lower in females. Since 1990, the number of people with hypertension worldwide has doubled, with most of the increase occurring in low- and-middle-income countries where the greatest population growth was also seen. Sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania, and South Asia have the lowest detection, treatment, and control rates. High BP has a more significant effect on the burden of stroke among Black and Asian individuals than Whites, possibly attributable to differences in lifestyle, socioeconomic status, and health system resources. Although pharmacological therapy is recommended differently in local guidelines, recommendations on lifestyle modification are often very similar (salt restriction, increased potassium intake, reducing weight and alcohol, smoking cessation). This overall enhanced understanding of the sex- and ethnic/racial-specific attributes to BP motivates further scientific discovery to develop more effective prevention and treatment strategies to prevent stroke in high-risk populations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Immune imbalance and the inflammatory response are associated with atherosclerosis (AS) progression. Astragali Radix and Coptis Rhizoma (ARCR) are an ancient and classic herb pair that is used in herbal medicines for the treatment of coronary heart disease. We focused on the effects and mechanisms of the ARCR herb pair attenuation of atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE-/-) mice. METHODS ApoE-/- mice were fed a high-fat diet for 12 weeks to establish a model of AS. The ApoE-/- mice were randomly divided into a model group, simvastatin group (Simva), Astragali Radix group (AR), Coptis Rhizoma group (CR), Astragali Radix-Coptis Rhizoma group (ARCR), and Astragali Radix-Coptis Rhizoma + signal transducer and activator of transcription factor 6 (STAT6) inhibitor (AS1517499) group (ARCR + AS1517499). C57BL/6 mice were used as controls. Each group was administered the corresponding drugs, and mice in the model and control groups were given the same volume of normal saline once daily for 6 weeks. The body weights of the mice were observed regularly. The effect of the ARCR herb pair on lipid content in peripheral blood was evaluated using blood lipid tests. The levels of serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), interleukins-12 (IL-12), IL-10, interferon-γ (IFN-γ), and IL-4 were determined to assess inflammation. Oil Red O staining, Sirius Red staining, and immunohistochemistry were used to observe changes in plaque stability. Western blotting was used to assay M1/M2 macrophages, Th1/Th2 cells, and STAT6 signaling pathway protein expression. Flow cytometry and immunofluorescence were used to detect M1/M2 macrophages and Th1/Th2 cells and reflect the immune imbalance. RESULTS The ARCR herb pair significantly reduced blood lipids levels and plaque vulnerability and regulated the levels of inflammatory factors and the number of M1/M2 macrophages and Th1/Th2 cells in ApoE-/- AS mice. It also decreased iNOS and T-bet protein levels and increased the Arg-1 and GATA-3 protein levels. The ARCR herb pair also increased STAT6 phosphorylation. A STAT6 inhibitor attenuated the regulation of M1/M2 and Th1/Th2 markers induced by the ARCR herb pair. CONCLUSION The ARCR herb pair regulates blood lipid metabolism and attenuates atherosclerosis via regulation of M1/M2 and Th1/Th2 immune balance, which is achieved partially by increasing STAT6 phosphorylation. Our study provides new evidence for the possible use of ARCR herb pair in the prevention and treatment of AS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aortic valve stenosis is a sexually dimorphic disease, with women often presenting with sustained fibrosis and men with more extensive calcification. However, the intracellular molecular mechanisms that drive these clinically important sex differences remain underexplored. METHODS Hydrogel biomaterials were designed to recapitulate key aspects of the valve tissue microenvironment and to serve as a culture platform for sex-specific valvular interstitial cells (VICs; precursors to profibrotic myofibroblasts). The hydrogel culture system was used to interrogate intracellular pathways involved in sex-dependent VIC-to-myofibroblast activation and deactivation. RNA sequencing was used to define pathways involved in driving sex-dependent activation. Interventions with small molecule inhibitors and siRNA transfections were performed to provide mechanistic insight into sex-specific cellular responses to microenvironmental cues, including matrix stiffness and exogenously delivered biochemical factors. RESULTS In both healthy porcine and human aortic valves, female leaflets had higher baseline activation of the myofibroblast marker α-smooth muscle actin compared with male leaflets. When isolated and cultured, female porcine and human VICs had higher levels of basal α-smooth muscle actin stress fibers that further increased in response to the hydrogel matrix stiffness, both of which were higher than in male VICs. A transcriptomic analysis of male and female porcine VICs revealed Rho-associated protein kinase signaling as a potential driver of this sex-dependent myofibroblast activation. Furthermore, we found that genes that escape X-chromosome inactivation such as BMX and STS (encoding for Bmx nonreceptor tyrosine kinase and steroid sulfatase, respectively) partially regulate the elevated female myofibroblast activation through Rho-associated protein kinase signaling. This finding was confirmed by treating male and female VICs with endothelin-1 and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, factors that are secreted by endothelial cells and known to drive myofibroblast activation through Rho-associated protein kinase signaling. CONCLUSIONS Together, in vivo and in vitro results confirm sex dependencies in myofibroblast activation pathways and implicate genes that escape X-chromosome inactivation in regulating sex differences in myofibroblast activation and subsequent aortic valve stenosis progression. Our results underscore the importance of considering sex as a biological variable to understand the molecular mechanisms of aortic valve stenosis and to help guide sex-based precision therapies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have estimated adverse effects of short-term exposure to ambient air pollution on public health. Few have focused on sex-differences, and results have been inconsistent. The purpose of this study was three-fold: to identify sex-differences in air pollution-related health outcomes; to examine sex-differences by cause and season; and to examine time trends in sex-differences. METHODS Daily data were collected on circulatory- and respiratory-related mortality (for 29 years) and cause-specific hospitalization (for 17 years) with hourly concentrations of ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and fine particulate matter (PM2.5). For hospitalization, more specific causes were examined: ischemic heart disease (IHD), other heart disease (OHD), cerebrovascular disease (CEV), chronic lower respiratory diseases (CLRD), and Influenza/Pneumonia (InfPn). Generalized Poisson models were applied to 24 Canadian cities, and the city-specific estimates were combined for nationwide estimates for each sex using Bayesian hierarchical models. Finally, sex-differences were tested statistically based on their interval estimates, considering the correlation between sex-specific national estimates. RESULTS Sex-differences were more frequently observed for hospitalization than mortality, respiratory than circulatory health outcomes, and warm than cold season. For hospitalization, males were at higher risk (M > F) for warm season (OHD and InfPn from O3; IHD from NO2; and InfPn from PM2.5), but F > M for cold season (CEV from O3 and OHD from NO2). For mortality, we found F > M only for circulatory diseases from ozone during the warm season. Among the above-mentioned sex-differences, three cases showed consistent time trends over the years: while M > F for OHD from O3 and IHD from NO2, F > M for OHD from NO2. CONCLUSIONS We found that sex-differences in effect of ambient air pollution varied over health outcome, cause, season and time. In particular, the consistent trends (either F > M or M > F) across 17 years provide stronger evidence of sex-differences in hospitalizations, and warrant investigation in other populations.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are the most common causes of hospitalization, death, and disability in Europe. Due to high prevalence and ensuing clinical complications, they lead to very high social and economic costs. Despite the knowledge of classical cardiovascular risk factors, there is an urgent need for discovering new factors that may play a role in the development of cardiovascular diseases or potentially influence prognosis. Recently, particular attention has been drawn to the endogenous microflora of the human body, mostly those inhabiting the digestive system. It has been shown that bacteria, along with their host cells, create an interactive ecosystem of interdependencies and relationships. This interplay could influence both the metabolic homeostasis and the immune processes of the host, hence leading to cardiovascular disease development. In this review, we attempt to describe, in the context of cardiovascular risk factors, why particular microbes occur in individuals and how they might influence the host’s cardiovascular system in health and disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the role of steroid hormones in lipid levels has been partly discussed in the context of separate sexes, the causal relationship between steroid hormones and lipid metabolism according to sex has not been elucidated because of the limitations of observational studies. We assessed the relationship between steroid hormones and lipid metabolism in separate sexes using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study. METHODS Instrumental variables for dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), progesterone, estradiol, and androstenedione were selected. MR analysis was performed using inverse-variance weighted, MR-Egger, weighted median, and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier tests. Cochran's Q test, the MR-Egger intercept test, and leave-one-out analysis were used for sensitivity analyses. RESULTS The results showed that the three steroid hormones affected lipid metabolism and exhibited sex differences. In males, DHEAS was negatively correlated with total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and apolipoprotein B (P = 0.007; P = 0.006; P = 0.041, respectively), and progesterone was negatively correlated with TC and LDL-C (P = 0.019; P = 0.038, respectively). In females, DHEAS was negatively correlated with TC (P = 0.026) and androstenedione was negatively correlated with triglycerides and apolipoprotein A (P = 0.022; P = 0.009, respectively). No statistically significant association was observed between the estradiol levels and lipid metabolism in male or female participants. CONCLUSIONS Our findings identified sex-specific causal networks between steroid hormones and lipid metabolism. Steroid hormones, including DHEAS, progesterone, and androstenedione, exhibited beneficial effects on lipid metabolism in both sexes; however, the specific lipid profiles affected by steroid hormones differed between the sexes.

Abstract
Women live longer than men. Cardiovascular disorders, cancers, and serious infectious conditions are less common among women than men. Recent data also indicate that women, particularly before menopause, are less susceptible to severe COVID-19, a viral infection hitting less-healthy individuals. The superiority of women regarding health has not been completely understood and partly been explained by estradiol beneficial effects on the microenvironment of the body, notably cytokine network. Estradiol cycles are aligned with menstruation cycles, a challenge for distinguishing their individual effects on human health. Large-scale, long-term studies indicate that hysterectomy, particularly at younger ages, is associated with an increased risk of mortality, cancer, or heart disorders. The underlying mechanisms for the increased risk in hysterectomized women are hard to be investigated in animal models since only a few primates menstruate. However, blood exchange models could resemble menstruation and provide some insight into possible beneficial effects of menstruation. Sera from animal models (neutral blood exchange) and also humans that have undergone therapeutic plasma exchange enhance the proliferation of progenitor cells in the culture and contain lower levels of proinflammatory factors. If menstruation resembles a blood exchange model, it can contribute to a healthier cytokine network in women. Consequently, menstruation, independently from estradiol health beneficial effects, can contribute to greater longevity and protection against certain disorders, e.g., COVID-19, in women. Investigation of COVID-19 rate/severity in hysterectomized women will provide insight into the possible beneficial effects of menstruation in COVID-19.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to be the leading cause of death in adults, highlighting the need to develop novel strategies to mitigate cardiovascular risk. The advancing obesity epidemic is now threatening the gains in CVD risk reduction brought about by contemporary pharmaceutical and surgical interventions. There are sex differences in the development and outcomes of CVD; premenopausal women have significantly lower CVD risk than men of the same age, but women lose this advantage as they transition to menopause, an observation suggesting potential role of sex hormones in determining CVD risk. Clear differences in obesity and regional fat distribution among men and women also exist. While men have relatively high fat in the abdominal area, women tend to distribute a larger proportion of their fat in the lower body. Considering that regional body fat distribution is an important CVD risk factor, differences in how men and women store their body fat may partly contribute to sex-based alterations in CVD risk as well. This article presents findings related to the role of obesity and sex hormones in determining CVD risk. Evidence for the role of sex hormones in determining body composition in men and women is also presented. Lastly, the clinical potential for using sex hormones to alter body composition and reduce CVD risk is outlined. © 2022 American Physiological Society. Compr Physiol 12:1-45, 2022.

Abstract
The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)/Angiotensin II (Ang II) and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)/angiotensin-(1-7) (Ang-(1-7)) pathways are coexpressed in most tissues. The balance between these pathways determines, at least in part, whether tissue damage will occur in response to pathological stimuli. The present study tested the hypothesis that male sex and high blood pressure are associated with ACE/ACE2 imbalance in the lungs. Experiments were conducted in male and female Wistar rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Lung ACE and ACE2 gene expression was also evaluated in normotensive and hypertensive humans using the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) project. Compared with Wistar rats and female SHRs, male SHRs displayed reduced lung ACE2 mRNA, ACE2 protein abundance and ACE2 activity, and increased Ang II concentration. Lung ACE mRNA levels were higher in male SHRs than in Wistar rats, whereas lung ACE protein abundance and activity were similar among the four groups of rats. Lung Ang-(1-7) concentration was higher in female than in male SHRs (89 ± 17 vs. 43 ± 2 pg/g, P<0.05). Lung ACE to ACE2 mRNA expression in hypertensive patients was significantly higher than that in normotensive subjects. Taken together, these results demonstrate that male hypertensive rats display imbalance between the ACE/Ang II and ACE2/Ang-(1-7) pathways in the lungs mainly attributable to ACE2 down-regulation. Further studies should be conducted to investigate whether this imbalance between ACE/ACE2 may promote and accelerate lung injury in respiratory infections, including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Abstract
Oxygen supplementation, although a cornerstone of emergency and cardiovascular medicine, often results in hyperoxia, a condition characterized by excessive tissue oxygen which results in adverse cardiac remodeling and subsequent injurious effects to physiological function. Cardiac remodeling is further influenced by various risk factors, including pre-existing conditions and sex. Thus, the purpose of this experiment was to investigate cardiac remodeling in Type I Diabetic (Akita) mice subjected to hyperoxic treatment. Overall, we demonstrated that Akita mice experience distinct challenges from wild type (WT) mice. Specifically, Akita males at both normoxia and hyperoxia showed significant decreases in body and heart weights, prolonged PR, QRS, and QTc intervals, and reduced %EF and %FS at normoxia compared to WT controls. Moreover, Akita males largely resemble female mice (both WT and Akita) with regards to the parameters studied. Finally, statistical analysis revealed hyperoxia to have the greatest influence on cardiac pathophysiology, followed by sex, and finally genotype. Taken together, our data suggest that Type I diabetic patients may have distinct cardiac pathophysiology under hyperoxia compared to uncomplicated patients, with males being at high risk. These findings can be used to enhance provision of care in ICU patients with Type I diabetes as a comorbid condition.

Abstract
Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a completely noninvasive, optical method of assessing blood flow dynamics in peripheral vasculature. Wearable devices for PPG recording are becoming increasingly popular, due to their cost-effectiveness and ease of use. For these reasons, many recent scientific studies have proposed the use of pulse rate variability (PRV) extracted from PPG as a surrogate for heart rate variability (HRV), in monitoring autonomic activity and cardiovascular health.In this work, we used a cross-mapping approach, a methodology based on chaos theory, to compare PRV and HRV dynamics, and investigate their agreement according to age and gender of healthy subjects. We used ECG and PPG data acquired from 57 subjects (41 young and 16 elderly) during resting state in the supine position. Signals were gathered from the publicly available VORTAL dataset. Our results showed a statistically significant decrease of PRV reliability as an HRV surrogate in old participants, which was confirmed as significant when only men subjects were analyzed (p-value<0.01).Our findings, although preliminary, suggest greater caution in the use of PPG devices for monitoring cardiovascular health, especially in elderly men.

Abstract
Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is an arteriopathy associated with hypertension, stroke and myocardial infarction, affecting mostly women. We report results from the first genome-wide association meta-analysis of six studies including 1556 FMD cases and 7100 controls. We find an estimate of SNP-based heritability compatible with FMD having a polygenic basis, and report four robustly associated loci (PHACTR1, LRP1, ATP2B1, and LIMA1). Transcriptome-wide association analysis in arteries identifies one additional locus (SLC24A3). We characterize open chromatin in arterial primary cells and find that FMD associated variants are located in arterial-specific regulatory elements. Target genes are broadly involved in mechanisms related to actin cytoskeleton and intracellular calcium homeostasis, central to vascular contraction. We find significant genetic overlap between FMD and more common cardiovascular diseases and traits including blood pressure, migraine, intracranial aneurysm, and coronary artery disease.

Abstract
Objective Stroke among young adults is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Efforts are being taken to control stroke in the general population, but in parallel, there is an increasing trend of stroke among the young population. These patients are often affected by physical disability, cognitive impairment, and loss of productivity, all of which have personal, social, and economic implications. The main aim of this study was to determine the risk factors associated with stroke among young patients admitted to a tertiary care rehabilitation center and determine the effect of rehabilitation on the outcome of their daily life activities. Materials and Methods A retrospective hospital-based cohort study was conducted between January 2015 to December 2019. Prevalence of stroke-related risk factors like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and cardiac disease was assessed. Results Out of 710 young stroke adults, 71.97% were described as ischemic, and 28.03% reported as non-ischemic. Mean age (SD) was found to be 44.54 ± 9.3. Univariate analysis demonstrated that hyperlipidemia, cardiac disease, and diabetes indicated a significantly higher risk for ischemic stroke with an OR (95% CI) at 2.5 (1.7-3.7), 2.11 (1.2-3.6), and 1.66 (1.2-2.3) respectively. A significant improvement was observed in their Functional Independence Measure (FIM0 score after their rehabilitation irrespective of age and gender. Conclusion Association of risk factors associated with stroke should be subjected to close follow-up and management, thus reducing the risk of developing long-lasting disabilities at a young age. The identification of risk factors for young stroke incidence is a step towards improving health in the young adult population.

Associations between body shape across the life course and adulthood concentrations of sex hormones in men and pre- and postmenopausal women: a multicohort study. Br J Nutr 2021; 127:1000-1009. Abstract
The objective was to investigate associations between life-course adiposity and sex hormone concentrations: trajectory of adiposity from age 5 to 40 (premenopausal)/60 (postmenopausal women and men) in relation to levels of oestrone (E1), oestradiol (E2), sex hormone-binding globulins (SHBG), testosterone in 4801 premenopausal and 6019 postmenopausal women in the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and NHS II, and 2431 men in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study. We used group-based trajectory models to identify groups within each cohort based on recalled somatotypes and reported BMI. Multivariate linear regression models were used to compare sex hormone concentration across different trajectory groups. The mean age at blood draw was 64·1 ± 8·1 years for men, 59·4 ± 6·0 for postmenopausal and 44·1 ± 4·6 for premenopausal women. In men, compared with the medium-stable group, lean-marked increase and medium increase groups had lower levels of SHBG (percentage difference: -17 and -9 %) and testosterone (-15 and -13 %). In postmenopausal women, compared with the medium-stable group, lean-marked increase and medium increase groups had higher levels of E1 (21 and 34 %) and E2 (45 and 68 %) but lower level of SHBG (-29 and -35 %). In premenopausal women, compared with the lean-moderate increase group, medium-stable/increase and heavy-stable/increase groups had lower levels of SHBG (-6 and -28 %). Attained adulthood adiposity and middle-life weight gain were associated with lower SHBG and testosterone in men, higher E1 and E2 and lower SHBG in postmenopausal women, and lower SHBG in premenopausal women. The study indicates the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight throughout life course for homoeostasis of sex hormones.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS There has been conflicting results on the effect of red meat and processed meat intake on the dyslipidemia risk. Moreover, studies in Asian population with lower meat intake than the Western population are lacking. In this study, we aimed to investigate the association between red and processed meat consumption and the dyslipidemia risk by sex among Koreans. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 20,407 participants from a prospective cohort were divided into quintiles according to their red meat consumption and tertiles according to their processed meat consumption based on the validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. The Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was used to estimate the relative risk and 95% confidence interval of dyslipidemia according to red and processed meat consumption. Higher red meat consumption was associated with a 34% and 10% increased risk of hypercholesterolemia in both men and women, and further, a 58% and 17% increased risk of hyper-low-density lipoprotein cholesterolemia and dyslipidemia, in men, compared to the lowest consumption group. Higher processed meat consumption was associated with a 38% and 9% increased risk of hypercholesterolemia, 29% and 18% increased risk of hypertriglyceridemia, and 32% and 10% increased risk of dyslipidemia in both men and women, respectively, compared to the lowest consumption group. CONCLUSION The results of the present study can provide compelling evidence on Asian population that red and processed meat consumption can lead to a higher risk of dyslipidemia.
