Abstract
The study investigated the impact of incorporating a specific herbal blend comprising coriander, garlic, and fenugreek (CGF) at various levels on the zootechnical performance, blood metabolites and nutrient digestibility in broiler chickens. The 42-day experiment involved 360 broilers (Cobb 500), organized into four distinct treatment groups. The dietary interventions included a control group consisting of a basal diet and the same diet was supplemented with CGF at rates of 1, 2, and 3%. Broilers receiving a 1% phytogenic mixture exhibited significantly increased live weight and carcass weight. Moreover, the digestibility of crude protein and crude fat significantly improved in broilers supplemented with a 1% phytogenic mixture. On the other hand, the digestibility of calcium and phosphorus showed a notable increase in broilers fed with a 3% phytogenic mixture. Regarding serum metabolites, the 1% phytogenic mixture group displayed significantly higher levels of high density lipoprotein and triglycerides. The supplementation of the broiler diet with a herbal mixture of coriander, fenugreek, and garlic at a 1% rate resulted in improved growth performance, carcass quality, nutrient digestion, and lipid profile.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the role of coriander seed powder (Coriandrum sativum) on growth indices, feed utilization, body composition, and haemato-biochemical parameters in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fingerlings over 84 days. One hundred and forty-four common carp (25.24±0.05 g) were assigned into four groups fed with different diets, namely 0 (basal diet), 1%, 2%, and 4% of coriander seed powder (CSP). In the current study, C. carpio fed with dietary CSP revealed significant improvement in weight gain, final weight, specific growth rate, total feed intake, feed conversion efficiency, feed conversion ratio, protein intake, and protein efficiency ratio, in comparison to control fish fed after 84 days (P>0.05). It was also found that fish fed with 1%CSP-supplemented dietary had the best growth performance and feed utilization. The crude protein of fish fed with CSP dietary treatments increased, and significant differences were only found in the fish fed with 1%CSP diet, in comparison to the control group. The CSP supplementation groups showed significant increases in hemoglobin, hematocrit, albumin, total protein, and globulin compared to the control group. Nevertheless, differential white blood cells, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, cholesterols, and triglycerides were significantly reduced in the CSP dietary group in comparison to the control group. It was also found that CSP dietary treatment significantly increased lipase and amylase in comparison to the control group (P>0.05). However, the highest lipase and amylase levels were obtained at 1%CSP and 2%CSP dietary treatment groups, compared to the control basal diet. Based on the results, CSP supplementation could improve the overall health status and growth performance of common carp fingerlings.

Abstract
In Chile, edible herbs are mainly grown by small farmers. This type of horticultural crop typically requires intensive management because it is highly susceptible to insects, some of which transmit viruses that severely affect crop yield and quality. In 2019, in coriander plants tested negative for all previously reported viruses, RNA-Seq analysis of one symptomatic plant revealed a plethora of viruses, including one virus known to infect coriander, five viruses never reported in coriander, and a new cytorhabdovirus with a 14,180 nucleotide RNA genome for which the species name Cytorhabdovirus coriandrum was proposed. Since all the detected viruses were aphid-borne, aphids and weeds commonly growing around the coriander field were screened for viruses. The results showed the occurrence of the same seven viruses and the alfalfa mosaic virus, another aphid-borne virus, in aphids and weeds. Together, our findings document the presence of multiple viruses in coriander and the potential role of weeds as virus reservoirs for aphid acquisition.

Abstract
In this study, the potential neuroprotective ability of coriander seeds (Coriandrum sativum L.) ethanolic extract (CSES) as a neuroprotectant agent in the brains of high-fat diet-induced obese rats was analyzed. The study investigated how CSES impacts oxidative stress markers (i.e., malondialdehyde/MDA, glutathione/GSH and catalase), inflammation marker (i.e., Interleukin-6/IL-6), cellular senescence markers (i.e., senescence-associated β-galactoside/SA-β-Gal activity and p16), brain damage marker (i.e., Neuron-specific Enolase/NSE), and neurogenesis markers (i.e., mature Brain-derived Neurotropic Factor/BDNF, pro-BDNF, and mature/pro-BDNF ratio). Male adult Wistar rats were fed a high-fat diet and given CSES once daily, at 100 mg/kg body weight, for 12 weeks. CSES significantly reduced MDA concentration (p = < 0.001), SA-β-Gal activity (p = 0.010), and increased GSH concentration (p = 0.047) in the brain of obese rats; however, the decrease of IL-6, NSE, and p16 as well as the increase of catalase specific activity and BDNF expression were not significant. Moreover, the mature/pro-BDNF ratio was significantly higher in the brains of non-obese rats, both given the control diet and the high-fat diet compared to the control. Our results suggest that obese rats benefited from consuming CSES, showing improved oxidative stress levels, reduced cellular senescence and increased endogenous antioxidants, making CSES a potential neuroprotective agent.

Abstract
The organic solvent extracts (hexane, chloroform, acetone, methanol and water) of coriander fruits were reported for their antioxidant and repellent activities. The methanol and acetone extracts revealed the highest antiradical activity as compared to the other solvent extracts. HPLC analysis revealed that phenolic acids were the major compounds in chloroform and acetone extracts, whereas flavonoids in methanol and water extracts. The methanol extract of coriander fruits exhibited the highest repellent effect against coleopteran insects. Additionally, the hexane extract of coriander fruits also exhibited potent repellent and toxic activities against rice weevil. It appeared that coriander fruit extract obtained with the apolar solvent had more repellent potential against Sitophilus oryzae as compared to Tribolium castaneum. For Lasioderma serricorne, the methanol extract of coriander fruits reduced in a very significant way the adults followed by the chloroform and hexane extracts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Brassinolide, known as the seventh plant hormone, can improve the photosynthetic capacity of plants, promote plant growth and development, promote the formation of horticultural crop yield, improve the quality of horticultural crops, and also improve the ability of plants to resist biological and abiotic stresses. RESULTS The effects of different concentrations of exogenously sprayed 2,4-epibrassinolide (EBR) on growth, physiological and photosynthetic characteristics of 'All-round large leaf coriander' were studied in substrate culture. The results showed that 0.05, 0.1, and 0.5 mg.L- 1 EBR promoted the growth of coriander and increased the aboveground fresh and dry weights, with 0.5 mg.L- 1 EBR having the most significant effect. Spraying 0.1 mg.L- 1 EBR increased the content of soluble sugars and protein of coriander leaves. Spraying 0.1 and 0.5 mg.L- 1 EBR significantly increased the chlorophyll content and photosynthetic parameters of coriander leaves, and 0.5 mg.L- 1 EBR also significantly increased the chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of coriander leaves. Spraying 0.5 mg.L- 1 EBR upregulated the expression of CsRbcS, CsFBPase, and CsAld. Correlation analysis showed that aboveground fresh weight under exogenous EBR treatment was significantly positively correlated with aboveground dry weight, plant height, Pn, Gs, Ci, and CsAld (P < 0.05), and soluble sugar content was significantly positively correlated with the number of leaves, Y(II), qP, and CsRbcS. The results of the principal component analysis (PCA) showed that there was a significant separation between the treatment and the control groups. Spraying 0.5 mg.L- 1 EBR can promote the growth of coriander, improve the quality of coriander leaves, and strengthen coriander leaf photosynthetic capacity. This study provides new insights into the promotion of coriander growth and development following the application of exogenous EBR. CONCLUSION Exogenous EBR treatment increased coriander plant height, leaf growth and aboveground dry weight, and enhanced photosynthesis. Exogenous spraying of 0.5 mg.L- 1 EBR had the most significant effect.

Abstract
This study (60 days) was conducted to investigate the ability of diet enriched with Coriandrum sativum powder or its extract to protect Oreochromis niloticus health and survivability at suboptimal temperature (21 ℃). One hundred and twenty (33.14 ± 0.5 g) were divided into four groups; each group has three replicates.. The first control group fed on a basal diet. Second and third groups fed on diet enriched with 30 mg/kg coriander seed powder (CP) and coriander seed ethanolic extract (CE), respectively. The fourth group (OT) fed on diet enriched with 500 mg oxytetracycline/kg diet. The results revealed that CE exhibited a considerable improvement in hematological parameters, hepatic-renal functions, antioxidant status, and immunological markers as well as remarkably increased resistance against Aeromonas veronii. It could be concluded that feeding tilapia CE enriched diet at 30 mg/kg is a recommended strategy to enhance tilapia health and resistance to A. veronii infection reared at 21 ℃.

Abstract
This research was conducted during the two experimental seasons 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 to explore the effect of salicylic acid (SA) concentrations at 0.75.150 and 300 ppm, fertilization of poultry manure (PM) on rats 0, 5, 10/ and 20 m3/ha as well as their interactions on growth, yield and volatile oil components of Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.). It resulted in a significant increase in plant growth traits in terms of plant height, number of branches, fresh and dry weed weight, number of threads, and seed yield per plant and hectare, when plants were treated with fine particles at a high concentration (300 ppm). While the highest values for volatile oil production were when spraying at a concentration of 200 parts per million, it was also proven that poultry manure at all levels was more effective in increasing the previously studied traits. All tested variables were significantly affected by the interaction coefficients. In this respect, most of the combination therapies significantly increased all aspects examined. Moreover, foliar application at 300 ppm SA plus high level (20 m3/ha) was the most effective treatment for growth and yield characteristics while oil production was better at 200 ppm concentration with the same level of poultry manure. GC-MS analysis of the volatile oil indicated that poultry manure and foliar applications with salicylic acid concentrations also affected the major constituents. The combination of SA at 200 and 300 ppm plus PM at the higher level (20 m3/ha) resulted in increased percentages of major components compared to the untreated plants and the other treatments.

Abstract
Coriander is a herbaceous spice and condiment crop also known for its medicinal properties. The present study identified two putative novel deltapartitiviruses and an enamovirus tentatively named as Coriandrum sativum deltapartitivirus 1, 2 (CsDPV1, 2) and Coriandrum sativum enamovirus (CsEV) in the publicly available transcriptome-assembled contigs derived from coriander grown in India. CsDPV1 and 2 contained tripartite and bipartite genomes, respectively, with each genome segment encoding a single open reading frame (ORF). CsEV contained five ORFs encoding proteins P0, P1, P2, P3 and P5. Phylogenetic analysis revealed three distinct subgroups of deltapartitiviruses wherein CsDPV1 and 2 grouped in subgroup 3 and 1, respectively, whilst CsEV formed a distinct sub-clade within enamoviruses. Further, the presence of CsDPV2 in fruit samples of one of the cultivars from where the virus was identified was confirmed through RT-PCR assay and Sanger sequencing. The study highlights the need for further studies on understanding the importance and the biological properties of identified novel viruses.

Abstract
A new Schiff base (H2L) generated from sulfamethazine (SMT), as well as its novel micro- and nanocomplexes with Ni(II) and Cd(II) metal ions, have been synthesized. The proposed structures of all isolated solid compounds were identified with physicochemical, spectral, and thermal techniques. Molar conductance studies confirmed that the metal complexes are not electrolytic. The molecular geometry located at the central metal ion was found to be square planar for the NiL2 and tetrahedral for the CdL2 complexes. The kinetic and thermal parameters were obtained using the Coats and Redfern approach. Coriandrum sativum (CS) in ethanol was used to create the eco-friendly Ni and Cd nanocomplexes. The size of the obtained nanoparticles was examined using PXRD and TEM, and found to be in the sub-nano range (3.07-4.61 nm). Furthermore, the TEM micrograph demonstrated a uniform and homogeneous surface morphology. The chemistry of the prepared nanocomplexes was studied using TGA and TEM techniques. The effect of temperature on the prepared nanocomplexes' size revealed a decrease in size by heating. Furthermore, the nanocomplexes' antimicrobial and anticancer properties were evaluated. The outcomes demonstrated that the nanocomplexes exhibited better antimicrobial properties. Moreover, the antitumor results showed that after heating, the Ni nanocomplex exhibited a substantial antitumor activity (IC50 = 1.280 g/mL), which was higher than the activity of cis-platin (IC50 = 1.714 g/mL). Finally, molecular-docking studies were performed to understand the evaluated compounds' ability to bind to methionine adenosyl-transferases (PDB ID: 5A19) in liver cancer and COVID-19 main protease (PDB ID: 6lu7) cell-proteins. The findings reveal that [NiL2]·1.5H2O2 has a higher binding energy of -37.5 kcal/mol with (PDB ID: 5A19) cell protein.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of ambient temperature and coriander seeds supplementation on growth performance and carcass characteristics of Koekoek chickens. In the experiment, chickens were exposed to two temperature rooms with a heated room of 32 ± 1.2 °C from 11:00 to16:00 h and a normal room temperature with an average maximum and minimum of 23.8 ± 3 °C and 16.6 ± 1.6 °C, respectively, and a relative humidity between 34.5 ± 4 and 44.8 ± 3%. The chickens were supplemented with 0, 5, and 10 g/kg of coriander seed powder. The results showed that the group of Koekoek chickens placed in a heated room had significantly lower (P < 0.05) feed intake and weight gain and significantly higher (P < 0.05) feed conversion ratio than the groups placed at normal room temperature. Water intake was 1.8% higher in the groups placed in a heated room than those placed at normal room temperature. Supplementation with coriander seed powder enhanced growth performance and carcass traits. The carcass weight and breast percentage were higher (P < 0.05) in the groups that received 10 g/kg coriander seed powder. The growth performance of the Koekoek groups supplemented with 10 g/kg coriander seed powder in a heated room also improved significantly compared to groups in a heated room without supplementation. This suggests that the supplementation of coriander seed improves performance, and has a positive potential effect in alleviating the negative effects of heat stress on growth performance of chickens.

Abstract
In this study, the effects of Coriandrum sativum to control Aeromonas veronii infection in Oreochromis niloticus were determined. Coriandrum sativum extract (CE) was tested in vitro against A. veronii by the disc diffusion assay. In in vivo, 150 O. niloticus (from El-Abbassa, Sharkia, Egypt, weighing 34.95 ± 1.98 g) was distributed in five groups (with three replications) in glass aquariums (80 × 40 × 30 cm). The first group (control) was intraperitoneally injected with 0.2 ml of sterilized tryptic soya broth. Groups 2-5 were intraperitoneally challenged with 0.2 ml of A. veronii (4.3 × 106). The five groups were administered a basal diet until clinical signs appeared, and then therapeutic feeding (15 days) was followed: the first (CONT) and second (AV) groups were administered a normal basal diet. The third (AV+CP) and fourth (AV+CE) groups were administered diets supplemented with C. sativum powder and extract, respectively, each at 30 mg/kg. The fifth group (AV+OT) was administered a diet supplemented with oxytetracycline at 500 mg/kg diet. The results of the in vitro experiment revealed that CE has a zone of inhibition of 43 mm against A. veronii. The in vivo results showed that fish administered a therapeutic diet supplemented with CE showed a significant improvement in hematological, biochemical, and immunological parameters, as well as antioxidant capacity (P < 0.05) and the pathological findings of the liver and kidney tissues. The current findings supported that the administration of a CE-enriched diet (30 mg/kg) is an eco-friendly strategy for controlling A. veronii in O. niloticus.

Abstract
Liver ischemia/reperfusion (IR) often affects distant organs, such as small intestine, kidney, and lung. Coriandrum sativum (CS) has an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect on liver damage. The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects of CS extract on small intestine, lung, and kidney after the liver IR injury. Small intestine, lung, and kidney tissues were evaluated and scored in terms of cell degeneration, inflammation, and congestion, as well as caspase-3 (Cas-3) and cluster of differentiation 31 (CD31) immunostainings were carried out. Renal enzymes, creatinine and urea levels were measured biochemically in serum. After IR, a decrease in villi size, diffuse degeneration, epithelial cell shedding and extensive congestion in the capillaries were observed. Meanwhile, the number of degenerated villi and congestion decreased in the IR+CS group. Due to IR, increased congestion was detected in the interalveolar septum of the lungs and in the capillaries between the kidney tubules. It was also observed that the positively stained cells with Cas-3 and CD31 were increased in the lung, kidney, and small intestine tissues of the IR group, and decreased in the IR+CS group. Kidney enzymes, urea and creatinine levels were significantly increased in the IR group and decreased in the IR+CS group. In conclusion, it was observed that liver IR caused changes in distant organs, especially in the small intestine, lung, and kidneys. Damaging effects of IR as well as apoptosis and inflammation were found to be decreased in the groups treated with CS.

Abstract
Indian basil (Ocimum basillicum), lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) and coriander (Coriandrum sativum) leaves are a good source of aromatic oils; however, their extraction volume is low. Hence, two pre-treatment systems (ohmic-heating and ultrasonic) were devised for extraction of essential oils (EO) from the leaves of these three plant spp., which consequently enhanced the EO yield and saved the time and energy. First of all, an experimental set-up was developed for ohmic-heating pre-treatment which was subjected to the optimization of electric conductivity of lemongrass and coriander leaves at 26.25 V/cm and for Indian basil at 22.5 V/cm voltage gradient. An Experimental setup was also developed for ohmic heating-assisted hydro-distillation (OHD). Finally, conventional Clevenger hydro-distillation (CHD), OHD, ultrasonic-assisted conventional hydro-distillation (UACHD) and ultrasonic-assisted ohmic-heating hydro-distillation (UAOHD) methods were evaluated for their effectiveness in the extraction of the EOs. The OHD took 3.5 h time with 410 W power consumption compared to 5 h time and 500 W power consumption in CHD of sleeted leaves. Likewise, a saving of ~ 86% in time and 74% in energy consumption was observed for EO extraction through UAOHD over CHD. Quantity of EOs extracted from all three aromatic plant spp. leaves followed the trend of UAOHD > UACHD > OHD > CHD methods, respectively. Overall, ultrasonic pre-treatment coupled with ohmic-heating assisted hydro-distillation (UAOHD) proved as an innovative and effective clean EO extraction technology which took shorter extraction time and lesser energy consumption with better EO yield over the UACHD, OHD and CHD methods from the leaves of Indian basil, lemongrass and coriander.

Abstract
The use of essential oils (EOs) as a natural alternative to antibiotics for disease prevention strategies is gaining much interest in recent decade. Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) essential oil is rich in bioactive compounds like linalool and geranyl acetate which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities. The present work was proposed to evaluate the inclusion levels of coriander oil in tilapia feed to enhance tilapia health and resistance to bacterial infection. Five iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipidic feeds were prepared with graded levels of coriander oil (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2%). The fish were then fed with the five experimental diet twice daily for a period of 60 days in triplicate. Haemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, mean cell haemoglobin increased significantly in the coriander oil treated groups. The thrombocyte count was more in 2% inclusion level. The superoxide dismutase activity increased significantly in all the treated groups. The feeds with 1.5 and 2% coriander oil showed increased respiratory burst and myeloperoxidase activities while lysozyme and antiprotease activities were significantly higher in 1, 1.5 and 2% dietary treatments compared to control. The survival increased in dose dependent manner post challenge with an intraperitoneal injection of Aeromonas hydrophila at a LD50 dose of 5 × 106 cfu mL-1. The feed containing 1, 1.5 and 2% of coriander oil showed 89, 100 and 100% survival respectively compared to 39% in control diet. The expression level of IgM and IL-8 increased significantly post challenge with A. hydrophila in coriander oil fed groups. The expressions of TNFα, IL-1β, TGFβ and HSP 70 genes, however, decreased significantly in the treated groups compared to control. Histopathological examination of spleen showed large melano-macrophage centers in control and 0.5% coriander fed group with signs of necrosis and vacuolation post A. hydrophila infection, whereas 1, 1.5 and 2% treated groups showed normal architecture of spleen. From the above observations it can be concluded that coriander oil with 1% incorporation in feed improves tilapia health and resistance to bacterial infection.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Inflammation has been known to possess some essential roles in many diseases, especially those with chronic or severe conditions. Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than, a Thai traditional herbal remedy, has long been used to treat gastrointestinal sicknesses, fever, and severe illness caused by the deformities of Tridosha. In particular, this recipe has also been applied for inflammation-related conditions including gout and rheumatoid arthritis. The Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than recipe consists of dried fruits of three herbs including Aegle marmelos (L.) Corrêa, Morinda citrifolia L., and Coriandrum sativum L. Each of these plant components of Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than exhibited anti-inflammatory activities. However, anti-inflammatory effect of Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than remedy has not been reported. AIM OF THE STUDY The objective of this study was to elucidate the anti-inflammatory activities of Pikad Tri-phol-sa-mut-than extract (TS) against acute and chronic inflammation in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS To study the effects of TS on acute inflammation, ethyl phenylpropiolate (EPP)-induced ear edema, carrageenan- and arachidonic acid (AA)-induced hind paw edema models were carried out. In addition, cotton pellet-induced granuloma formation was performed to specify the inhibitory effects of TS on chronic inflammation. RESULTS The topical application of TS significantly inhibited EPP-induced ear edema in rats. In the carrageenan- and AA-induced paw edema models, the oral administration of TS significantly reduced paw volumes, compared to those of the control groups. In addition, the 7-day oral treatment of TS demonstrated a significant suppressive effect on cotton pellet-induced granuloma formation. CONCLUSIONS The current study revealed that TS possesses anti-inflammatory activities against acute and chronic inflammation. Our studies support the use of TS in traditional medicine, and the development of TS as a novel natural product for treating diseases associated with inflammation.

Abstract
The agricultural sector in the world is facing social expectations to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impacts, and at the same producing enough food and fiber for the growing world population. The purpose of the present research is to determine the economic, energy consumption, and environmental impacts in coriander seed production using material flow cost accounting approach along with life cycle assessment. The positive output and negative energy were 25,485 and 6742 MJ ha-1, respectively. Energy efficiency, net energy gain, specific energy, and energy productivity indicators were calculated as 0.6, - 11,944 MJ ha-1, 17.4 MJ kg-1, and 0.06 kg MJ-1, respectively. The average production cost was calculated as 588 $ ha-1 whereas gross income was 1267 $ ha-1. The value of negative products in coriander production was estimated as 239 $ ha-1. Seed shedding at harvest and water loss due to inefficient irrigation system were found to be the major negative products (economic and energy) in the system that can enhance the system productivity upon improvement. The values of benefit costs ratio and economic productivity were 1.74 and 3 kg $-1, respectively. The acidification potential (102.5 kg SO2 eq ha-1), global warming potential (897.3 kg CO2 eq ha-1), photochemical oxidation potential (0.13 kg C2H4 eq ha-1), and eutrophication potential (40.3 kg PO4-3 eq ha-1) indicators were evaluated. The hotspots in point of economic (labor and seed shedding), energy use (nitrogen fertilizer and machinery) and energy loss (seed shedding), and environment (diesel fuel consumption) were determined which can be used to optimize coriander production through decreasing the material and energy consumption in the field. The results showed that MFCA combined with LCA is a powerful tool in identifying hotspots in crop production systems and can be used in developing more sustainable systems as well as in developing sustainability models.

Abstract
Since large areas of agricultural soils around the world are contaminated by Cd, a cost-effective and practical method is needed for the safe production of edible plants. The effective role of many nanomaterials to improve plant yield by mitigating environmental pollutions is addressed; however, the impacts of selenium nanoparticles (Se-NPs) have not been well-known yet. The aim of this work was to investigate foliar application of Se-NPs on yield, water content, proline concentration, phenolic content, lipid peroxidation, and essential oil (EO) attributes of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) under Cd stress. The plants were exposed to Cd contamination (0, 4, and 8 mg L-1) and foliar application of Se-NPs (0, 20, 40, and 60 mg L-1). The results showed increased Cd accumulation in roots and shoots of coriander plants upon Cd stress; however, Se-NPs alleviated the uptake of Cd. Cd toxicity, particularly 8 mg L-1, decreased shoot and root weight, chlorophyll (Chl), and relative water content (RWC), while Se-NPs improved these attributes. The Cd concentration at 4 mg L-1 and Se-NPs at 40 or 60 mg L-1 increased phenolic and flavonoid contents as well as EO yield. Proline concentration and malondialdehyde (MDA) increased by enhancing Cd stress, but Se-NPs decreased MDA. The GC/MS analysis showed that the main EO constitutes were n-decanal (18.80-29.70%), 2E-dodecanal (14.23-19.87%), 2E-decanal (12.60-19.40%), and n-nonane (7.23-12.87%), representing different amounts under Cd pollution and Se-NPs. To sum up, Se-NPs at 40-60 mg L-1 are effective in alleviating Cd stress.

Abstract
Coriandrum sativum L. (coriander), which is an annual herb of the Apiaceae family, has been traditionally used as a remedy. Here we tested whether heated extract of coriander leaf protects nigral dopaminergic neurodegeneration after exposure to 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). After injection of 6-OHDA into the rat substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), dopaminergic degeneration, which was determined by tyrosine hydroxylase immunostaining, was rescued by co-injection of CaEDTA, an extracellular Zn2+ chelator, suggesting that extracellular Zn2+ influx is involved in neurodegeneration. Both intracellular Zn2+ dysregulation determined by ZnAF-2 fluorescence and dopaminergic degeneration in the SNpc induced by 6-OHDA were rescued by co-injection of 0.25% coriander extract, which also reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the SNpc determined by aminophenyl fluorescein fluorescence. The present study suggests that coriander leaf extract protects nigral dopaminergic neurodegeneration induced by intracellular Zn2+ dysregulation. It is likely that the nutraceutical property of coriander leaf extract contributes to the protection via reducing ROS production.

Abstract
Traditional medicine is critical in disease treatment and management. Herbs are gaining popularity for disease management and treatment. Therefore, they can be utilised as complementary and alternative treatment (CAT) ingredients. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the common non-communicable diseases. It is characterised by chronic inflammatory skin disease with intense pruritus and eczematous lesions. AD is associated with oxidative stress, microbial infection, and upregulation of inflammatory cytokines. Both children and adults could be affected by this skin disorder. The prevalence of AD is increasing along with the country’s level of development. This review revisited the literature on four medicinal herbs widely used as complementary medicine to manage AD. These therapeutic herbs are commonly eaten as food and used as spices in Asian cuisine. The four food herbs reviewed are Cassia alata, Coriandrum sativum, Curcuma longa Linn, and Azadirachta indica. Their traditional uses and phytochemical content will be covered. Four relevant pharmacological and biological activities of the plants crucial in AD management have been reviewed and discussed, including anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antioxidant, and wound recovery.

Abstract
Gut health plays an important role on production and performance of broilers. This trial was undertaken with an aim to evaluate the synergistic effect of probiotic, chicory root powder and coriander seed powder on the performance and gut health of broiler chicken. For this purpose, a total of 240 day-old broiler chicks were randomly allotted to six dietary treatments with 8 replicates of 5 birds in each. Treatment groups included T1 as control i.e., basal diet (BD) without any growth promoter and T2-BD + antibiotic (BMD 0.05%). In the remaining experimental diets, T3-probiotic (@ 0.01%) + chicory root powder (@ 1.0%), T4-probiotic (@ 0.01%) + coriander seed powder (@ 1.5%), T5-chicory root powder (@ 1.0%) + coriander seed powder (@ 1.5%) and T6-probiotic (@ 0.01%) + chicory root powder (@ 1.0%) + coriander seed powder (@ 1.5%). The results indicated that supplementation of probiotic + chicory (T3), probiotic + coriander (T4), chicory + coriander (T5) and probiotic + chicory + coriander (T6) in combination resulted in significantly (P<0.05) higher weight gain and better FCR compared to control and antibiotic groups at 42 d of age. Supplementation of different dietary groups did not show any significant (P>0.05) effect on feed intake of broilers. Supplementation of all the test diets (T3 to T6) significantly (P<0.05) increased the glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx), glutathione reductase (GSHRx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme activity when compared to control and antibiotic groups at 42 d of age. Supplementation of all the test diets (T3 to T6) significantly (P<0.05) lowered the pH in the gut, increased Lactobacillus counts, and reduced E. coli and Salmonella counts in the ileum compared to control and antibiotic groups. Supplementation of all the test diets (T3 to T6) significantly (P<0.05) increased the villus height (VH), crypt depth (CD), VH:CD ratio and villus width (VW) in the duodenum and only VH and CD in the ileum compared to control and antibiotic groups. Significantly (P<0.05) higher jejunal VH and VW and increased the goblet cell number in duodenum, jejunum and ileum was recorded in all test diets (T3 to T6) compared to control and antibiotic groups. Therefore, combinations of probiotic (0.01%), chicory root powder (1.0%) and coriander seed powder (1.5%) can be used as feed additive for improving performance and gut health of broiler chicken.

Abstract
Hypertension has become a leading cardiovascular risk factor worldwide. In this study, we explored the salutary effects and relevant mechanisms of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.), an herbal plant with culinary and medicinal values, on high-fructose and high-salt diet (HFSD)-induced hypertension in SD rats. Our results showed that oral administration of coriander (1.0 or 2.0 g/kg·bw) effectively attenuated HFSD-induced elevation of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and mean arterial pressure. Coriander also increased the serum levels of vasodilator factors (PGI2, NO, and eNOS), decreased Na+ retention and serum uric acid (UA) level, and ameliorated glucolipid profiles. qPCR results revealed that coriander downregulated the mRNA expression of NHE3, a Na+/H+ exchanger responsible for Na+ absorption, in kidney and small intestine. 16S rDNA sequencing showed that coriander altered the gut microbiota composition with the beneficial bacteria Bifidobacterium and Oscillibacter significantly enriched. Correlation analysis indicated that the abundance of Bifidobacterium was evidently correlated with levels of NHE3, NO, eNOS, and UA. LC-MS/MS analysis revealed that coriander contained a variety of flavonoids including rutin and quercetin. Conclusively, long-term consumption of coriander may ameliorate HFSD-induced hypertension by mitigating HFSD-caused abnormal changes in vascular endothelial function, renal and intestinal sodium absorption, glucolipid homeostasis, and gut microbiota in rats.

Abstract
Water deficiency represents the major cause that affects agricultural output globally. A water-saving strategy was introduced by using water deficit conditions and growth regulators. Foliar application of folic acid (FA) has been found suitable not only for drought stress alleviation in Coriandrum. sativum but also beneficial for improvement in growth and yield under water deficit circumstances. The current study examined the potential roles of FA under drought to improve C. sativum growth. The C. sativum variety was subjected to three levels of irrigation regimes (IR100, IR75, and IR50) with or without the foliar application of FA concentrations. The results showed that the application of 50 mM FA was very effective in improving the plant height, number of secondary branches, number of umbels, and leaf area index in comparison to FA water deficit treated plants alone under IR75 and IR50. Similarly, physiological and gaseous exchange parameters also upgraded that improved the economic yield (81 and 163%), fresh biomass (28 and 131%), dry biomass (63 and 66%), and harvest index (10 and 58%) of C. sativum plants under irrigation regimes IR75 and IR50 compared to their non-treated FA plants. All the observed growth parameters showed a positive correlation with each other vs. LAI except a weight of 1,000. Overall, this study indicated that foliar-applied 50 mM FA may be used as an alternate strategy to improve C. sativum performance in biomass production and can play a key part in solving difficulties caused by drought stress on plant development.

Abstract
Nanotechnology has become a valuable novel approach to manage several environmental challenges through providing innovative and effective solutions. Heavy metal stress is an important abiotic limiting factor. Seed priming with selenium (Se) alleviates various kinds of environmental stresses; yet, the potential of seed priming with selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) under cadmium (Cd) stress for coriander crop has never been evaluated. This research work was designed to explore the effects of seed priming with three levels (0, 5, 10 and 15 mg L-1) of SeNPs solution on the physio-biochemical characteristics, nutrition, antioxidative defense system and growth of coriander under Cd stress. Cadmium toxicity reduced chlorophyll content, photosynthetic activity and growth of treated plants. Moreover, Cd stressed plants exhibited modulations in proline level, together with decreased water potential, and leaf osmotic potential. However, SeNPs increased growth attributes, chlorophyll content, total soluble sugars, leaf relative water content, and gas exchange parameters in treated plants which were conversely decreased by Cd toxicity. The seeds priming with SeNPs promoted antioxidant response by increasing catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and peroxidase (POX) activity and safeguarding cellular structures through scavenging free radicals and reactive oxygen species. Furthermore, Cd stressed plants displayed an upper level of MDA (1.91 fold) while SeNPs improved membranous integrity through detoxification of hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, SeNPs enhanced nutrients contents (P, K, Ca, Mg, Zn), metal tolerance index and diminished Cd content in plants resulting in the improved growth and development of Cd affected coriander plants.

Abstract
Anthropogenic activities are the foremost reason of metal pollution in soils of the cultivated areas, resulting abnormal physiochemical processes in plants. Among metals contaminants, cadmium (Cd) is one of the most injurious contaminants that deleteriously affect physiological activities, growth and yield of the crop plants. Keeping in view the stress mitigation potential of titanium dioxide (TiO2), the existing research work was premeditated to inspect the beneficial role of seed priming with titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) on biochemical, morphological and physiological characteristics of Coriandrum sativum L. (coriander) plants under Cd stress. For this purpose, C. sativum seeds were primed with 0, 40, 80 and 160 mg L-1 TiO2-NPs. Cadmium stress triggered a significant decrease in chlorophyll a content (49%), chlorophyll b content (44%), photosynthetic rate (62%) and plant growth (51%) as compared with control. Tanium dioxide nanoparticles treated seedlings exhibited reduced Cd contents besides improved agronomic traits (seedlings biomass, number of seeds and yield). The TiO2-NPs treatment declined the magnitude of EL and MDA by 1.5 fold and 1.71 fold, respectively. Furthermore, TiO2-NPs diminished oxidative injuries in plants exposed to Cd stress. Additionally, TiO2-NPs enhanced the biosynthesis of osmatic regulators (proline) by 47% which helped in the mitigation of Cd persuaded toxicity in plants. Briefly, treatment of 80 mg L-1 TiO2-NPs perhaps ameliorates the deleterious influence of Cd stress and enhance the yield of coriander.

Abstract
It was aimed to examine the role of gibberellic acid (GA3) and NPK fertilizer in alleviating boron (B) toxicity in coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) plants. Two weeks old C. sativum seedlings were subjected to different NPK fertilizers [low NPK (30 kg ha-1) and normal NPK (60 kg ha-1)], which were also supplied by GA3 (50 mg L-1), under varying levels of B i.e., 0, 200 and 400 mg kg-1 in the soil. Results revealed that B toxicity led to a substantial decreased in the plant growth and biomass, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange characteristics, sugars and essential nutrients in the roots and shoots of C. sativum seedlings. However, B toxicity boosted the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by increasing the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), which is the indication of oxidative stress in C. sativum seedlings and was also manifested by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) contents and electrolyte leakage (EL) to the membrane bounded organelles. Although, activities of various antioxidative enzymes like superoxidase dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), non-enzymatic antioxidants like phenolic, flavonoid, ascorbic acid and anthocyanin contents and organic acids from the roots such as oxalic acid, malic acid, formic acid, citric acid, acetic acid and fumaric acid contents were increased with the increasing levels of B in the soil. The application if NPK and GA3 mitigated B toxicity by stimulated plant growth and biomass, photosynthetic efficiency, nutritional status and antioxidant machinery of the plant by decreasing MDA contents, H2O2 initiation and EL (%) in the roots and leaves of C. sativum seedlings. In addition, the application of NPK and GA3 further decreased the organic acids exudation contents in the roots C. sativum seedlings. Research findings, therefore, suggested that NPK and GA3 application can ameliorate B toxicity in C. sativum seedlings and resulted in improved plant growth and composition under B stress as depicted by balanced contents of organic acids.

Abstract
Nowadays, the use of different nanoscale structures has been introduced to a large number of research areas. One of these is the treatment and remediation of water through photocatalytic processes, seeking to reuse wastewater for agriculture. In this paper, Lactuca sativa, Coriandrum sativum, and Capsicum annuum were used as crop models to observe the effects in plant growth and the secondary metabolism of different water qualities and types used in the watering process. Initial results show that the photocatalytic process's water maintains a pH and ion concentration within the allowed limits, significantly reducing the number of bacteria. Along the growth process, an influence on germination times, appearance of true leaves, maturation, and fruit production depending on the type of water used is observed, obtaining the best results in both growth times and quantity of fruits, for the 50% and 70% disinfected water/tap water (DW/TAW) study groups. Secondary metabolites, such as phenols, flavonoids, and antioxidant activity, were studied to evaluate changes in the vegetables' composition, showing increased concentration for the disinfected water groups in most specimens. Additionally, no traces of metals and microorganisms were detected, concluding that the crops are viable to be consumed by human beings.

Abstract
In this work, Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized by reducing aqueous Au metal ions upon interaction with Coriandrum sativum (C. sativum) leaf extract. The optical absorption peak for the synthesized AuNPs was obtained by using UV-visible spectroscopy within a range of 540-550 nm. The formation of diffraction peaks found at 2θ values of 78.00°, 66.05°, 44.85° and 38.48° that corresponds to the index planes (311), (220), (200), and (111) validate the effective synthesis of AuNPs. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was utilized to measure the size range of the spherical shaped nanoparticles, which is obtained to be 32.96 ± 5.25 nm. The peaks obtained from the FTIR results are closely linked to anthocyanins, benzophenones, flavonoids and phenols, which indicated that these biomolecules may serve as reducing agents. Additionally, studies of antioxidant function in vitro revealed that the activities of ABTS (2, 2'-azino-bis 3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) were improved dose-dependently. Further, the results of analgesic analysis showed that the cumulative action of AuNPs and the C. sativum leaf extract in pain relief is more efficient than independent C. sativum leaf extract and the aspirin drug.

Abstract
Biochar has been applied widely as an amendment in the remediation of contaminated soil to immobilize the heavy metals. However, the role of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation modified biochar derived from the residues of phytoremediation plants in the contaminated soil not investigated yet. In this study, the UV-modified biochars were obtained from Brassica napus L. and Lolium perenne L. by pyrolysis at 600 °C. They were applied in a pot experiment to investigate their effect on Cd bioavailability and uptake in Coriandrum sativum L. in a Cd-contaminated soil at four addition rate (0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.6%). The results showed that the Cd was effectively stabilized in the biochar with environmentally acceptable leaching toxicity. The specific surface area and carboxyl functional group of biochar were greatly increased after UV modification. The application of biochar progressively increased the soil pH and electrical conductivity (EC). Furthermore, the CaCl2-extractable Cd was significantly reduced by 18.4-51.4% with biochar amendments. The concentration of Cd in shoots and roots was significantly reduced by biochars. In conclusion, the UV-modified biochar obtained from phytoremediation residue could effectively deal with hazardous waste and repair Cd-contaminated soil.

Abstract
Water shortage and stress around the world lead to increasing wastewater reuse for the agricultural sector. In addition to its benefits, it can be a way to transfer pollutants such as potentially harmful elements (PHEs) to the human food chain. Many studies have been conducted for this purpose on various vegetables; however, no comprehensive study has been performed on lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.). In this respect, the study was aimed to meta-analyze the PHEs concentration in the edible part of lettuce and coriander vegetables irrigated by wastewater. Carcinogenic risk (CR) and noncarcinogenic risk (non-CR) assessments were also done for consumers. After reviewing 32 included articles (41 studies), the rank order of the PHEs in lettuce was obtained as Fe (194.76 mg/kg) > Zn (133.47 mg/kg) > Cu (55.70 mg/kg) > Ni (26.96 mg/kg) > Pb (12.80 mg/kg) > Cr (9.68 mg/kg) Cd (8.24 mg/kg) > As (1.13 mg/kg) and for coriander Fe (1056 mg/kg) > Zn (79.80 mg/kg) > Cr (28.34 mg/kg) > Ni (24.71 mg/kg) > Cu (17.46 mg/kg) > Pb (13.23 mg/kg) > Cd (2.23 mg/kg). Total target hazard quotient (TTHQ) for adults in all countries except UAE, France, and Kenya and for children all countries except Kenya was more than 1 value. The carcinogenic risk for adult groups in Nigeria, France, China, and Iran countries was not acceptable (CR > 1E-4). As a consequence, it can be noted that wastewater reuse in the agriculture sector can endanger the health of consumers.

Abstract
Lead (Pb) is among the most abundant toxic trace elements which causes direct and indirect negative effects on humans, animals, and plants. Thus, there is a need to alleviate the Pb toxicity in plants for good quality food production especially from marginal soils. In this study, the effects of silicon nanoparticles (Si NPs) were investigated on coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) biomass, vitamin C, flavonoid, antioxidant enzyme activities (i.e., catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and super oxide dismutase (SOD)), malondialdehyde (MDA), and Pb concentration in plants subjected to different Pb concentrations. Treatments included four levels of Pb (0, 500, 1000, and 1500 mg/kg of soil), and two levels of Si NPs (0 and 1.5 mM) in all combinations. The Pb treatments alone decreased the plant biomass and vitamin C while increased the flavonoid, MDA, antioxidant enzyme activities, and Pb concentration in tissues depending upon the Pb treatments. The foliar-applied 1.5 mM Si NPs alleviated the adverse impacts of Pb on coriander plants which were due to the minimization of Pb concentration in plants and improvements in the plant defense system. Si NPs minimized accumulation of MDA in plant tissues and adjusted the activities of POD, CAT, and SOD in plants under Pb stress. Overall, Si NP foliar application might be a suitable approach in reducing the Pb concentrations in plants. However, field studies with various plant species and environmental conditions are required to highlight the role of Si NPs on the plant under toxic trace element stress.

Abstract
ETHNOPHRAMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Coriandrum sativum L. is traditionally acknowledged for its use in inflammatory disorders, altered blood lipid levels, respiratory and digestive problems. AIM OF THE STUDY The present study investigates possible role of hydro-alcoholic extract of C. sativum (CHA) seeds in the attenuation of indices of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). MATERIALS AND METHODS Phytochemical analysis was carried out by employing chromatographic, spectroscopic as well as spectrometric techniques. Diabetes was induced by a single i.p. injection of freshly prepared STZ (65 mg/kg). The indexed markers of DPN, i.e., thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia were found to be prominent on the 60th day of STZ administration. Administration of CHA (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg, p.o.) for 30 days was started on the substantiation of DPN onset. Molecular docking study was performed by targeting TNF-α. RESULTS Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenolic acids. Oral administration of CHA considerably attenuated hyperglycemia and decreased pain threshold in diabetic rats as well as modulated oxidative-nitrosative stress. Docking study suggested good affinity of flavonoids when docked into the binding site of TNF-α. CONCLUSION In conclusion, using STZ model, it was successfully predicted that CHA might be beneficial in diabetes-induced neuropathic pain by inhibiting oxidative/nitrosative stress and inflammatory cytokine.

Abstract
Rapid global industrialization has increased the chances of toxic trace element accumulation in plants and other living things via the food chain. Thus, there is an urgent need to find suitable techniques with the aim to alleviate the stress of toxic trace elements in crops to feed the ever-increasing population with quality food. This research was based on the hypothesis that the growth traits of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) plants can be improved by the combined application of lead (Pb) resistant microbes and silicon nanoparticles (Si-NPs) under Pb stress. Two Pb-resistant strains of the microbes were isolated under different Pb concentrations, and then these strains were characterized for different traits. The strains were inoculated in the Pb-spiked (500 mg/kg) soil, and Si-NPs (1.5 mM) were foliar sprayed at different time (three times, two-week interval). The growth and stress tolerance of the plant were assessed by measuring the morphological traits, chlorophyll contents, proline, electrolyte leakage, and enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant activities of the leaves. Results demonstrated that Pb stress had significant negative impacts on all the traits of the coriander. Si-NPs application or bacterial inoculation reversed the Pb-induced toxicities in plants, which was indicated by the improved growth, photosynthesis, and antioxidant enzyme activities of the plants under Pb stress. The effect of the combined use of Si-NPs and microbes was more pronounced than the treatments alone. It can be concluded that Pb-resistant microorganism and Si-NPs could effectively be used to alleviate Pb stress in coriander.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to high levels of psychological distress in the general public, including symptoms of anxiety and depression. Such distress is associated with alterations in immune function, including an elevated risk of viral respiratory tract infections. In this light, the possible effects of Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine promoted by the Indian government as an "immune booster", are examined from the point of view of psychoneuroimmune mechanisms as well as the "meaning response" described by Moerman. It was found that many of the measures advocated in their guidelines could positively influence immunity either by direct effects on symptoms of depression or anxiety, or through their symbolic significance. Therefore, it is possible that such traditional practices could be beneficial both in terms of psychological quality of life, and in terms of moderating the risk of infection.

Abstract
Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L. 2n = 2x = 22), a plant from the Apiaceae family, also called cilantro or Chinese parsley, is a globally important crop used as vegetable, spice, fragrance and traditional medicine. Here, we report a high-quality assembly and analysis of its genome sequence, anchored to 11 chromosomes, with total length of 2118.68 Mb and N50 scaffold length of 160.99 Mb. We found that two whole-genome duplication events, respectively, dated to ~45-52 and ~54-61 million years ago, were shared by the Apiaceae family after their split from lettuce. Unbalanced gene loss and expression are observed between duplicated copies produced by these two events. Gene retention, expression, metabolomics and comparative genomic analyses of terpene synthase (TPS) gene family, involved in terpenoid biosynthesis pathway contributing to coriander's special flavour, revealed that tandem duplication contributed to coriander TPS gene family expansion, especially compared to their carrot counterparts. Notably, a TPS gene highly expressed in all 4 tissues and 3 development stages studied is likely a major-effect gene encoding linalool synthase and myrcene synthase. The present genome sequencing, transcriptome, metabolome and comparative genomic efforts provide valuable insights into the genome evolution and spice trait biology of Apiaceae and other related plants, and facilitated further research into important gene functions and crop improvement.

Abstract
Indoor air quality is a major public health issue. It is related to the choice of construction materials and associated with VOC emissions. Two wood-based commercial panels were tested: a medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and a chipboard (CH), and they were compared to a material produced from a coriander biorefinery (COR). Indicators chosen to compare the materials were physical properties (density, bending properties, surface hardness, thickness swelling, and water absorption) and VOC emissions. Emissions were evaluated in an environmental chamber at 23 °C, 31 °C, and 36 °C, and during 28 days. Carbonyl emissions on day 1 at 23 °C were 74, 146, and 35 μg m-2 h-1, respectively, for MDF, CH, and COR. Terpenic emissions were 12, 185, and 37 μg m-2 h-1, respectively. Higher temperature resulted in higher emissions which decreased over time, except for formaldehyde. VOC emissions depended largely on material and temperature. Formaldehyde emission was 300 to 600 times lower for coriander boards (< 0.2 μg m-2 h-1), making them significantly more environmentally friendly materials in comparison with MDF and chipboard. These results highlight the interest of coriander by-products as raw materials for producing fiberboards with low impact on indoor air quality.

Abstract
A virus-like disease characterized by foliar yellow blotch symptoms and resembling those described for cilantro yellow blotch disease in California was observed in a 4.05-ha cilantro (Coriandrum sativum) cv. Santo field in Hidalgo County, Texas during spring 2019. Disease incidence at harvest was estimated at ∼20%, and the affected plants were rendered unmarketable. Foliar systemic chlorosis symptoms were observed on sap-inoculated Nicotiana occidentalis plants (n = 3) using inocula from symptomatic cilantro. Total RNA aliquots from 11 randomly collected leaf tissue samples (symptomatic = 7, asymptomatic = 4) were pooled into a composite cilantro RNA sample which was analyzed by high throughput sequencing (HTS). Analyses of the obtained 15.7 million raw reads (76 nt each) yielded virus-specific contigs that mapped to the genomes of alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV), beet pseudoyellows virus (BPYV), and lettuce chlorosis virus (LCV). Virus-specific primers designed from the HTS-derived sequences were used to screen the samples in two-step RT-PCR assays, resulting in the detection of AMV+BPYV in 3 of 7 symptomatic cilantro samples, AMV+LCV in 4 of 7 symptomatic cilantro samples, and AMV alone in the 4 asymptomatic cilantro and sap-inoculated N. occidentalis samples. The results represent the first reports of the natural infection of cilantro by BPYV and LCV and implicate the mixed infection of a Crinivirus and AMV in cilantro yellow blotch disease.

Abstract
The emotion and sleep-related problems of humans who are on mission of deep-space and deep-sea exploration are topics of special interest because of the isolated environment. Effective regulatory approaches should be developed to manage the positive emotions and sleep quality in a long-duration isolated environment. The results reported that emotion and sleep were closely linked to each other because plants could significantly regulate humans' emotion and sleep through their own color and fragrance. Additionally, the light conditions prevailing in that location also had significant influence on humans' emotion and sleep. There have been few reports on the synergistic effects of plants with light environment on humans' physical and mental health. In this research, three species of edible plants and three color temperature levels that were commonly used in people's living environment were selected. Then orthogonal tests were conducted in the cabins of "Lunar Palace I" in the middle of the third phase of the "Lunar Palace 365″ experiment, and salivary cortisol levels, emotion, and sleep conditions of the volunteers were measured. The results showed that in the long-duration isolated environment, strawberry had a better effect than purple rape and coriander on improving positive emotion. Exposure to coriander before bedtime might help people to rapidly go to sleep, increase sleep integrity, and sleep efficiency in the isolated environment. Moreover, there appeared to be a positive synergistic effect of edible plants with light environment on micro-awakening index and sleep efficiency. These results provided a scientific basis for improving the physiological and psychological health of people in the long-duration isolated environment by changing the light environment with appropriate plants.

Abstract
Wound healing is a natural intricate cascade process involving cellular, biochemical and molecular mechanism to restore the injured or wounded tissue. Malaysia's multi-ethnic social fabric is reflected in its different traditional folk cuisines with different nutritional important ingredients. Despite these differences, there are some commonly used pantry ingredients among Malaysians and these ingredients may possess some healing power for acute and chronic wounds. These essential nutritional ingredients are included Amla (Ribes uva-crispa), Cinnamon (Cinnamomun venum), Curry Leaves (Murraya koenigii), Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum), Garlic (Allium indica), Onion (Allium cepa) and Tamarind (Tamarindus indica). This article provides a review of the remedies with confirmed wound healing activities from previous experiments conducted by various researchers. Most of the researchers have focused only on the preliminary studies through appropriate model; hence detailed investigations which including pharmacological and pre-clinical studies are needed to discover its molecular mechanisms. In this review article, we have discussed about the wound healing potential of few commonly used edible plants and their known mechanism.

Abstract
Garlic and coriander play an obligatory role in the metabolism of lipids leading to the reduction of CVD development. We hypothesized that garlic, coriander and their mixture improves the lipid profile, BMI and blood pressure of CVD patients. Eighty patients were partitioned into 4 groups, each group consisting of twenty patients. The groups were randomly assigned to three supplements i.e. garlic powder (GP), coriander seed powder (CSP) and mixture (1:1 dry weight basis) of GP and CSP at a dose rate of 2 g/day. The fourth group was kept as placebo. The patients were examined for serum lipid profile, BMI and blood pressure at the start (0 day), 20, 40 and 60th day of supplementation. The initial 40 days were the intervention period whereas the last 20 days were the follow up period. The results indicated that all the supplements significantly (p<0.05) influenced the BMI, HDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and systolic blood pressure of the patients. Among the supplements, GP had the highest influenced on BMI, TC, LDL and HDL whereas the impact of GP-CSP and CSP was more pronounced on TGL and blood pressure of the patients, respectively. All the parameters decreased with supplementation except HDL, which increased with the consumption of supplements. It was concluded that consumption of garlic, coriander and their mixture at a dose rate of 2 g/day is improving the lipid parameters of the patients.

Abstract
Membrane technology, being the most emerging wastewater treatment option, has gained substantial importance with the massive objective of the reuse potential of wastewater. Keeping this in view, the present study was conducted with the rationale to evaluate the performance efficiency of membrane-based septic tank (MBST), and its reuse perspective for irrigating crops. The septic tank was designed by submerging a woven fiber microfiltration membrane module to treat domestic wastewater. Three crops Triticum aestivum (wheat), Coriandrum sativum (coriander), and Mentha arvensis (mint) were selected to be irrigated with treated MBST effluent, untreated wastewater, and tap water (as a control) for comparative growth analysis. Two pathogenic strains, Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. were selected as reference microbes and their translocation rate was observed in root, shoot, and leaves. Upon maturity, the roots, shoots, and leaves of the above-mentioned plants were aseptically removed for microbiological analysis. Strains were analyzed, using analytical profile index and PCR analysis. Maximum removal efficiencies for MBST in terms of chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity, nutrients deduction (phosphorus), and indicator bacteria (Escherichia coli) were found to be 73, 96, 48, and 88%, respectively. Significant bacterial load reduction (p < 0.001) in terms of E. coli (3.8 log CFU/100 mL) and helminths (2 eggs/L) was observed in treated water. High plant yield was observed when irrigated with treated water as compared to tap water, as minimal nutrient removal (48%) was recorded in treated water, with the germination percentage of 88.8%.

Abstract
The liver has the crucial role in the regulation of various physiological processes and in the excretion of endogenous waste metabolites and xenobiotics. Liver structure impairment can be caused by various factors including microorganisms, autoimmune diseases, chemicals, alcohol and drugs. The plant kingdom is. full of liver protective chemicals such as phenols, coumarins, lignans, essential oils, monoterpenes, carotenoids; glycosides, flavonoids, organic acids, lipids,- alkaloids and xanthenes. Apiaceae plants are usually used as a vegetable or as a spice, but their other functional properties are also very important. This review highlights the significance of caraway, dill, cumin, aniseed, fennel, coriander, celery, lovage, angelica, parsley and carrot, which are popular vegetables and spices, but possess hepatoprotective potential. These plants can be used for medicinal applications to patients who suffer from liver damage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Herbal liqueurs are alcoholic beverages produced by the maceration or distillation of aromatic and medicinal plants in alcohol, and are also highly valued for their medicinal properties. The process conditions, as well as the number and quantity of the plants employed, will have a great influence on the quality of the liqueur obtained. The aim of this research was to optimize these important variables. RESULTS A Box-Benhken experimental design was used to evaluate the independent variables: alcohol content, amount of plant and time during the experimental maceration of plants in grape marc distillate. Four plants were assessed, with the main compound of each plant representing the dependent variable evaluated with respect to following the evolution of the maceration process. Bisabolol oxide A in Matricaria recutita L., linalool in Coriander sativum L. and eucalyptol in Eucalyptus globulus Labill. were quantified using a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector. Glycyrrhizic acid in Glycyrrhiza glabra L was determined using a high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector. Other dependent variables were also evaluated: total phenolic content, color parameters and consumer preference (i.e. appearance). CONCLUSION The experimental designs allowed the selection of the optimal maceration conditions for each parameter, including the preference score of consumers: 70% (v/v) of ethanol, 40 g L-1 plant concentration and a maceration process of 3 weeks. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Acinetobacter baumannii is a pathogen that has the ability to adhere to surfaces in the hospital environment and to form biofilms which are increasingly resistant to antimicrobial agents. The aim of this work was to study the antimicrobial activity of the major oil compounds of Coriandrum sativum against A. baumannii. The effect of linalool on planktonic cells and biofilms of A. baumannii on different surfaces, as well as its effect on adhesion and quorum sensing was evaluated. From all the compounds evaluated, linalool was the compound with the best antibacterial activity, with minimum inhibitory concentration values between 2 and 8 μl ml(-1). Linalool also inhibited biofilm formation and dispersed established biofilms of A. baumannii, changed the adhesion of A. baumannii to surfaces and interfered with the quorum- sensing system. Thus, linalool could be a promising antimicrobial agent for controlling planktonic cells and biofilms of A. baumannii.

Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the role of Unani herbal drugs Pepsil and Safoof-e-katira on the gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). This was multicentre randomized case control study conducted at Matab Hakeem Muhammad Noor-ud-din, Burewala; Aziz Muhammad din Medical and Surgical Centre, Burewala and Shifa-ul-mulk Memorial Hospital, Hamdard University Karachi. The patients were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. In test group-1 the male female ratio was 40%, 60%; test group-2 was 42%, 58% and in control group was 44%, 56% respectively. The observed symptoms in the study were increased appetite (TG-1-95%, TG-2-95% and CG-89%), difficulty in swallowing (TG-1-93%, TG-2-96% and TC-94%), belching/burping (TG-1-97%, TG-2-97% and CG-95%), vomiting (TG-1-90%, TG-2-96% and CG-89%), heart burn (TG-1-100%, TG-2-100% and CG-98%), palpitation (TG-1-100%, TG-2-100% and CG-97%), epigastric pain (TG-1-97%, TG-2-97% and CG-90%), abdominal cramps (TG-1-97%, TG-2-98% and CG-95%), tenesmus (TG-1-100%, TG-2-100% and CG-97%), flatulence (TG-1-100%, TG-2-75% and CG-95%), wakeup during sleep (TG-1-94%, TG-2-87% and CG-94%). The p-value of the results of the symptoms was 0.000 except flatulence where the value was 0.001. The statistical results of the study prescribed that all the drugs studied (Pepsil, Safoof-e-katira and Omeprazole) are highly significant. The herbal coded drug Pepsil showed no side effects and unani herbal drug safoof-e-katira showed minimum result of 75% in the patients while Omeprazole resulted with some side effects. In the result it can be concluded that the herbal coded drug Pepsil is a potent herbal drug for gastro esophageal reflux disease.

Abstract
Bell pepper plots intercropped with flowering plants were measured for improving biological control provided by natural enemies of the European corn borer [Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner)]. The intercropped plants Dill, Anethum graveolens L.; coriander, Coriandrum sativum L.; and buckwheat, Fagopyrum escuelentum Moench; were established on the edge of two pepper plots and compared with nonintercropped control plots. Predation by the three species Orius insidiosus Say; Coleomegilla maculata DeGeer; and Chrysoperla, sp. Stephens, was monitored by installing O. nubilalis egg masses on sentinel plants in 2008, 2009, and 2010. To assess negative impacts of alternative prey on O. nubilalis egg predation, green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) populations were monitored via whole-plant counts in 2009 and 2010. Myzus persicae densities on pepper plants peaked in June or July and then declined rapidly. Predation on O. nubilalis eggs increased rapidly after aphid populations declined. Aphid populations were reduced in two out of three field-seasons in intercropped plots. Seasonal predation by O. insidiosus was significantly higher in the intercropped system four out of five field-seasons and one field season by C. maculata. Results indicate that biocontrol of O. nubilalis can be improved by intercropping with flowering plants, although this capacity may depend on the abundance of alternative prey.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Coriandrum sativum L., commonly known as coriander and belonging to the family Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), is cultivated throughout the world for its nutritional value. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of fresh Coriandrum sativum leaves (CSL) on cognitive functions, total serum cholesterol levels and brain cholinesterase activity in mice. In this study, CSL (5, 10 and 15% w/w of diet) was fed orally with a specially prepared diet for 45 days consecutively to experimental animals. Elevated plus-maze and passive avoidance apparatus served as the exteroceptive behavioral models for testing memory. Diazepam, scopolamine and ageing-induced amnesia served as the interoceptive behavioral models. RESULTS CSL (5, 10 and 15% w/w of diet) produced a dose-dependent improvement in memory scores of young as well as aged mice. CSL also reversed successfully the memory deficits induced by scopolamine (0.4 mg kg(-1), i.p.) and diazepam (1 mg kg(-1), i.p.). Interestingly, brain cholinesterase activity and serum total cholesterol levels were considerably reduced by CSL administration in daily diets concomitantly for 45 days. CONCLUSION CSL may be a useful remedy in the management of Alzheimer's disease on account of its multifarious effects such as, memory-improving property, cholesterol-lowering property and anticholinesterase activity.
